Pat Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, announced he's been sober for six months following recent legal trouble.

"I would like to Thank my God wife family and friends for 6 months on the sunny side of the road. I know it’s been hard getting to know sober Pat but it’s well worth it. Trisha Mahomes thanks for all you do," the former MLB pitcher wrote in the caption of a photo of himself and MLB hit king Pete Rose at a recent event.

Mahomes, 53, was reportedly busted for driving with an invalid license in Tyler, Texas, on June 29, less than five months after being arrested for driving while intoxicated in the same city, according to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports at the time. The former pitcher was reportedly pulled over for disregarding traffic signs and cited for driving without a proper driver's license.

The former pitcher has been arrested for DUI/DWI three times and faces up to 10 years in prison for his latest arrest. The state of Texas is notoriously strict on DUI/DWI punishment as first-time offender can face up to a $2,000 fine and 120 days in county jail in adherence with Texas state law.

Mahomes' attorney reportedly discussed a plea deal to get his punishment changed to 10 years probation, KLTV reported last month. The 53-year-old's arrest came eight days before his son led the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl in five years.

The elder Mahomes was in attendance as his son won his third Super Bowl, throwing for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 34 of 47 passing. Patrick Mahomes is widely regarded as the best quarterback in the NFL and the face of the league, having won two Associated Press regular-season MVP awards and three Super Bowl MVPs in eight seasons.
