There seems to be a spice recall nearly everyday in 2024...but not today! Fortunately, quite the opposite.
McCormick & Company has been under fire in recent years regarding the quality of their spices, including alleged "lead exposure" and "misleading packaging" that fueled a lawsuit dropped by consumers in 2023, per Bloomberg Law.
The company recently spoke out about continued allegations in a message shared to Facebook on Thursday (September 12) assuring that consumers can trust the quality and safety of their spices, regardless of what has previously been reported about heavy metals.
In fact, the brand recommended that customers (including those across Massachusetts where their products are sold) stick with "mainstream brands like McCormick" when purchasing spices to assure that they are made with the utmost quality and care.
Longtime customers sounded off in the comment section in support of the timeless spice distributer stating, "I’ve been using McCormick for years, and have no plans to change. Thank you for letting us know, your cinnamon is safe," and "For my herbs & spices as a home cook, only McCormick is the brand that I have trusted through the years."
Read the company's full statement regarding rumors of heavy metals, specifically lead, contained in their spices below:
"McCormick & Company is aware of a report that found elevated levels of lead in ground cinnamon products and spice blends. To reduce exposure, the report recommends sticking with mainstream brands like McCormick, which are safe to consume. You can continue to enjoy our products with confidence and trust, knowing that we leverage our sourcing and traceability capabilities to bring you great taste while maintaining high quality and safety measures."
