Zach Bryan Says He Did This 'So I Didn’t Have To Hear Everyone Whine'

Zach Bryan released an all acoustic version of his newest album, With Heaven on Top, days after the original’s debut “so I didn’t have to hear everyone whine about more stuff.”
Bryan, 29, released stripped-down versions of 24 of the tracks on his 25-track project, now totaling 49 new tracks between the two-disc digital set, announces a press release issued at midnight ET on Monday (January 12). The release also states that the Grammy-winning artist spent several months writing, recording and producing his sixth record in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The singer-songwriter said in an Instagram caption on Monday that the acoustic version is “for all the weird audiophiles that no matter how much I put into a record will always miss just a guitar & me.” Bryan said the acoustic songs were just himself in a room with a mic and guitar, with “a very pretty girl and a very small dog,” the newlywed shared before adding a separate tribute to late legend Bob Weir, who died on Saturday (January 10). He was 78. “Love u guys and hope you enjoy it.
“I’m assuming this record is just like all the other ones and there’s gonna be a billion people saying it’s over produced and sh***y so I sat down in a room by myself and recorded all the songs acoustically so I didn’t have to hear everyone whine about more stuff,” Bryan wrote in a caption on Instagram ahead of With Heaven on Top’s release. He said “there’s mistakes and I didn’t redo any of them” on the acoustic project.
Bryan previously described With Heaven on Top as “a collection of songs my band and me recorded across three different houses in Oklahoma this winter. The cool air kept us all inside staggering around each live take. I pray these all end up meaning as much to others as they mean to me. Songs are living things, they want to be free and these free’d me.
“I was in the throes for a long time and the simple statement of heaven being above me got me through a lot,” Bryan continued in a caption on Instagram. “Not my job to convince anyone of anything. I’m not trying to sell music. Music to me is God’s gift and it needs no competition or commentary. The last ten years I’ve tried my best to share the human experience. I feel like I’ve lived all my 20’s out on a very large, very lucky and very unfair stage but this one felt different. This one felt like recording music with my best friends again. I’ll always give my best and I’ll always be willin’. Thanks for listening and I will see everyone on the road.”
