Heather Gay is in her prime.
Over the last few years, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star has been on a wellness journey marked by both inner growth and visible change. And in true Heather fashion, she’s been candid about what’s helped along the way, including a combination of GLP-1 medications and a partnership with Atkins.
In an interview with iHeartRadio, Heather spoke openly about her decision to share such a personal chapter of her life. “I’m comfortable talking about it because it worked,” she said. She began GLP-1s in 2023 and has since focused on maintenance with Atkins. “I don’t want to lose any more weight,” she explained. “I want to keep my shape. I want to keep my curves.”
As longtime Housewives fans know, Heather’s physical transformation has unfolded alongside a major personal transition. With her children leaving for college, she found herself entering a new phase of life — one that forced her to confront parts of herself she’d long put on the back burner.
“I saw that my kids were leaving, and I couldn’t hide behind the mom shield anymore,” she shared. “I’d been avoiding dating. I’d been avoiding being out there. Getting serious about my health and my body made me face that.” She added, “I have more bandwidth to focus on myself now because being a mom doesn’t eclipse everything else anymore.”
That energy carried straight into Season 6 of RHOSLC, where Heather entered as a near-empty-nester, literally and emotionally making room for life as a single woman without kids at home. While the season — in classic Housewives fashion — was dominated by shifting alliances and familiar chaos, Heather emerged grounded, reflective, and very much standing in her own power.
Ahead of the final episode of the three-part Salt Lake City reunion — a moment Heather described as both frustrating and heartbreaking — she sat down with iHeartRadio via Zoom to unpack the season, reflect on Jen Shah, and address the rumors surrounding a potential Meredith Marks departure.
Let's get into Housewives. This season, there were a lot of things bubbling off-screen and seemingly under the surface, which I feel like you were hinting at throughout the season. What were those things that you felt like your cast members weren't sharing?
Heather: It's a shame when any drama that happens that's not that's off camera that we have to fight about. It's unfair to the viewers. It's hard for us to explain it. And I feel like a lot of the season got hijacked by these kinds off-camera huge dramas. So, I feel like Salt Lake City gets better every year. I think the more shared experiences we have whether they're positive or negative, it really does bond us as women.
This season, it did take a turn. It was but we we came together a lot in Greece, but I think there's a lot that broke down at the reunion. I think it's going to be an interesting reunion. You know, we opened it up back to season one. We go through a lot, and we kind of celebrate each other, but we also pull out some baggage that has not yet been addressed. So, more to come for Salt Lake City.
Speaking of more to come, I’d love to talk about your relationship with Lisa [Barlow]. This season, we saw you two butting heads, similar to earlier seasons.
Heather: The truth is Lisa, and I fight pretty hard all the time. When we argue, we argue and then we make up pretty quickly. We found ourselves on different sides of the fence this season, and that was newer, but it's pretty expected, too. We come from things from a pretty different perspective, but, we have a lot of history, and I think we'll find our way back.
This season you also seemed to become a bit of Britani [Bateman's] protector. Do you feel that you did because of everything that happened on the flight?
Heather: I didn't intentionally become Britney's protector. It just felt like the natural thing to do in that in that scenario. It never ceases to amaze me how we can all experience the same thing and all take home a very different version of what happened. It's kind of what makes Housewives the magic of Housewives, but it also can create a lot of tension and conflict. And I think that this season showed that directly. We were all on that plane, but we all had a different version of what happened. Some of our versions were more similar than others.
Now, I know there's been rumors that Meredith is stepping away. How would you feel if she actually chose to not come back to RHOSLC?
Heather: Oh, I' I'd be devastated. [...] That would shock me if Meredith walked away, but she's got to do what's best for her, you know?
Switching gears a bit — Jen Shah has been released from prison. She is now out amongst us. How do you feel about that? And do you think there's any chance of reconciliation?
Heather: I hate to say definitives, but really no. And the truth is, the word on the street is that it's home confinement, so she's not really out amongst us. She might be in the zip code, but she's not allowed to leave the porch. So, we've got a little time, a few months of not running into her at the grocery store. We're not going to bump carts at Costco quite yet.
What if you did have that run-in? What do you think that would look like?
Heather: I'll tell you something. If I see Jen Shah pushing a Costco cart, I'll fall down in shock more from her in Costco than from seeing her in the flesh. So, I mean, I don't think we'll bump into each other. We only saw each other at Beauty Lab before. That was the only time we'd ever crossed paths, and I don't see that in her future. So, we probably won't cross paths soon.
Last but not least, what is next for Heather Gay? I know you're hosting, you're writing, you're doing a lot. You're a business owner, but what's the next goal?
Heather: Love. I want to manifest love in my life. I've been intentional about everything else in my life, including weight loss, and it feels like if I can be a manifesttor to this level with everything else in my life, I should be able to manifest love. So, I'm going to be vulnerable about wanting it. I've always said I'm fine without it. But I said the same thing about my weight, you know, and there are perks to everything. So, I'm gonna look for love and see what comes my way.
Would you go on a Bravo show for love?
Heather: Oh, yeah. I'd go on a Bravo show for anything. Yeah. Golden Bachelor. If cameras are up, I'm interested. That's what you should know about me.
