Zach Bryan posted a heartfelt message to his late mother shortly after he and his wife got married in a private ceremony in San Sebastian, Spain.
Bryan, 29, shared photos from his wedding day with wife Samantha Leonard, 28. The Grammy-winning country artist wrote in his caption on Instagram on Wednesday evening (January 21) that he believes his mother, Annette, would have loved the ceremony and her new daughter-in-law.
“Everyone I love, you woulda too,” Bryan wrote. “Samantha’s family is kind and they don’t try and fix me. Dad was doing the splits while smoking a cigar on the dance floor. Rocky Lane was our ring bearer and I know you’d like that since you named me after Lane Frost so many years ago. Keenan and Chris sang love songs and religious hymns while we all listened in a 300 year old Basilica. The best string section in the world played Little Feat all through the pews. If you coulda’ seen all the cheek tearing teeth smiling under the Spanish moon late into the morning on New Year’s Day. Belly laughing and just eye-balling Samantha in her dress.
“You used to tell me about days like this on top’a red dirt,” he continued. “We’re a long way from Oklahoma but things resemble home more now than ever. I think of all the moments you’ve missed often but Sam reminds me that you’re half of me of anyways. She is something special and precious. A thing you gotta’ keep once she touches your life. Makes me feel light. Makes me feel like my heart’s beating easy and the days aren’t as hard as they once were.
“Wish you could have seen us smiling like kids when we met on that Spanish beach,” Bryan said. “She loves a man only a mother could. Maybe you’re in that Spanish moon. I’ll see you soon enough, til’ then I’ll tell her you love her.”
Bryan lost his mother in August 2016. He said around that time that “my mom was my best friend.” Leonard honored her late mother-in-law by going “out of her way to put my mom’s wedding dress lace on her dress,” Bryan shared earlier this month. He said he “cried for a good bit,” and thanked his wife for a gesture that “meant so much.” Bryan and Leonard announced on New Year’s Eve that they’d tied the knot.
