Ashley McBryde told a “gut-wrenching tale” in the powerful music video that she premiered on Friday (January 23). The Grammy-winning country artist delivered her newest single, “What If We Don’t,” which “dares listeners to live without regret.”
McBryde teamed up with Terri Jo Box and Randall Clay to write the single, described in a press release as “an anthemic, larger-than-life plea.” Josh Osborne produced it, and director Brandon Campbell brought the song to life on screen. McBryde’s cinematic visual, inspired by a true story, stages a flashback during an EMDR therapy session, and tells a “gut-wrenching tale (that) depicts a story of young love and friendship, and emphasizes the song’s powerful message about the choices we do – or don’t – make,” the release states.
“‘What If We Don’t’ came to me, Terri Jo Box, and Randall Clay sitting around a fire pit on a back porch, reminiscing on all the moments that we could’ve made a different choice and wondering if we should’ve,” McBryde said in a statement. “It’s about the leaps of faith that you do or don’t take, and having to learn to live with those consequences either way.” She added in a post on Friday that “we can’t avoid feeling afraid. But we can make sure fear doesn’t get to make choices for us.”
“What If We Don’t” sets the stage for the Grand Ole Opry member’s upcoming fifth studio album. McBryde’s most recent full-length project is The Devil I Know, which arrived in 2023. That album included “Made For This,” “Light On In The Kitchen,” “Learned To Lie,” the title track, “Blackout Betty” and more. Watch McBryde’s “What If We Don’t” music video here:
