Drake Maye Breaks Silence On Super Bowl Injury Speculation

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye downplayed concerns about a potential shoulder injury during Super Bowl XL Opening Night on Monday (February 1), claiming he felt good after a throwing session earlier in the day.

"I feel good. I'll be just fine," Maye said via NFL.com. "I threw a good bit. I threw as much as I would at a normal practice. I felt great and looking forward to getting back out there Wednesday and Thursday for practice and Friday to get ready for a normal week of prep."

Maye, 23, was listed as questionable on the Patriots' Super Bowl bye week injury report after previously being "limited" for a hypothetical practice scenario. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has also previously downplayed the injury, claiming he tries "not to have a whole lot of concern" and "just want to try to prepare the football team and make sure that everybody's ready and that we all have a plan" while addressing reporters last Thursday (January 29) via Yahoo Sports.

Maye, a finalist for the 2025 Associated Press NFL MVP award, threw for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 354 of 492 passing (72% completions), while leading the Patriots to a 14-3 record, their first AFC East Division title since 2019 and their first Super Bowl appearance in seven years during his second NFL season. The Patriots will face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX on February, which will be a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX, which saw New England defeat Seattle 28-24.
