Explosion Near Toronto Airport Reportedly Tied To Drake's Music Video

Drake had people in his hometown shook up after he set off a controlled explosion while filming an upcoming music video.
Citizens in Canada believed the worst when they saw a massive fireball shoot into the sky near the Toronto Airport on Thursday night, April 16. In footage posted to social media, you can hear several bangs go off before a huge plume of fire and smoke ascended above Downsview Park. While unsuspecting people within the area reported the fireball, Drake confirmed he was behind the chaotic explosion in an Instagram Story he shared just after midnight on Friday.

According to a notice posted for residents in the area, the explosion was pre-approved by the City of Toronto Film, Television and Digital Media Office as part of production for Drake's music video. The setup began on Wednesday, and Toronto Police officers supervised the pyrotechnic event that happened overnight. The production will last until 11 p.m. tonight.
The explosion added another layer of excitement surrounding Drake's upcoming album, ICEMAN. His ninth solo studio album has been in the works for well over a year. He began teasing it in 2024 before he dropped his collaborative album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. A few months after $$$4U dropped, Drizzy confirmed the album's title and later teased unreleased music in his "Iceman" livestream series on YouTube.
Drake followed up with singles like "What Did I Miss?,” “Which One,” and “DOG HOUSE." He has yet to confirm the album's release date, but some industry insiders believe it will arrive very soon.
