4/21/26 Blog: Dirty Dealing In DougCo, Plus Rich Guggenheim Is Running!

April 21, 2026

WHY DID DOUGCO TAKE CONTAMINATED LAND FOR KIDS TO PLAY ON? That's the question my guest at 1 and so many other have about a land deal done by the Three Kings Of the County Commission Douglas County. They want to build a massive sports complex called Zebulon, but they did a land swap with a developer who didn't want to have to worry about contamination from the old Dupont factory. Now the county is going to put a bunch of ball fields on TOP of the contamination or leave the taxpayers on the hook for any further mitigation that needs to be done. To say citizens are MAD is an understatement. Denise Martinez is trying to inform her neighbors about what's going on, and I'm talking to her at 1 about it. Find out more at Denise's blog here.

RICH GUGGENHEIM IS RUNNING FOR OFFICE! Our favorite Gay is fresh off the fight to keep boys out of girl's spaces and jumping into the political scene by running for office in Senate District 25! He joins me at 2:30 to talk about it and probably win at Of the Day again. His kickoff is tomorrow night! Find all the details and find out more about Rich here. His kickoff is at 7pm tomorrow night at Satire Brewing in Thornton. Find his website here.

PLEASE GIVE TO CANDIDATES AND NOT THE COLORADO GOP I've never made a more direct plea to people who think like me, but things are dire with the Colorado GOP and you should not give them any more money right now. So please redirect any funds you would have donated to the many good candidates who are running for office. The state party will not be able to do anything to help them, and they need your help.

THE COLORADO GOP FILES SUIT TO BURN IT ALL DOWN As I knew they would coming out of this month's state assembly. I'm here hoping they are successful, so they can finally be relegated to the dustbin of history in Colorado so we can stop pretending there is an actual opposition party. They have filed suit to get an injunction that would prevent independents in Colorado from being able to vote in THIS YEAR'S primary. Judge Brimmer already shot it down, but Randy Corporon is going to continue to soak the Colorado GOP at every opportunity so I'm sure he will try again. Got to get those billable hours somehow.

ABOUT VICTOR MARX'S NEED FOR GUNS FOR THE IDF If you missed the whole Candace Owens accuses Victor Marx of being an arms trafficker thing you need to catch up. She relied on accounts from a man named Corby Hall, who makes a foldable AR-15 for purchase. Victor Marx was not only his spiritual advisor but also a customer. He bought over $26,000 worth of Corby's guns, allegedly to take to Haiti, and I have questions on that too but this is about the IDF. He told Corby that he was essentially the middle man for a deal with the IDF, who needed the guns for operations in Gaza, Syria and elsewhere. So I reached out to the IDF and asked how they procure weapons. I'll tell you about that today, but they do not use a random guy in Colorado as a middle man, I can assure you. Another thing Victor Marx needs to explain.

XCEL MAY SHUT OFF YOUR POWER TODAY Another Liability Reducing Power Shutoff could turn your power off today. Where?

These shutoffs would start on Wednesday, around 9 a.m. for some customers in Garfield, Mesa and Pitkin counties and around 11 a.m. for some customers in Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Rio Grande and Saguache counties.

Get ready for a long hot summer of this.

I'D LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE AMERICAN DREAM TODAY I had this article yesterday that says most people in the US think the American Dream is attainable for THEM, but not for others. I find this odd. Perhaps it's the definition of the American Dream that needs adjusting so let's do that today.

WE LOVE TO SPEED ON I-25 And my theory is that we spend so much time crawling up 25 that when we finally have open road we're trying to make up for lost time. Between March 1 and April 1 on the stretch of highway between Mead and Berthoud over 28,000 people were sent a speeding ticket WARNING. Starting now that ticket is not a warning but a ticket. And by the way, they aren't just snagging people as they drive by a speed camera. They are checking your AVERAGE speed between two checkpoints. This is what they do in Europe and I've been wondering when it was going to come here. You've been warned. Literally.

SHAME ON DENVER 7 FOR THIS STORY ON THE GIRLS SPORTS BALLOT INITIATIVE When I saw the headline for this story I was interested in seeing both sides of the issue:

Protecting girls or an attack on trans youth? Breaking down a controversial proposal on Colorado's ballot

Too bad that wasn't at all what the story was. After sharing ONE comment from Erin Lee from Protect Kids Colorado the entire story was an interview with a TRANS ADULT and their family. A trans adult who will not be affected by this at all. This part by their father really ticked me off:

"If it ain't broke, it doesn't need fixed. There's not a problem right now, other than one that's made up by politicians," said David Lindsey. "There's no need for this law. Parents will make the right decision. Parents aren't going to put other children at risk to have their kid play sports. I just don't believe that that's something that would happen.”

Except it IS HAPPENING or we wouldn't be here. It's happening here and here and here just to find a few. The reporter at 7 should have done a tiny bit of research before she sat down in the "cozy home" of people who are trying to make this an anti-trans bill instead of a pro-girls bill.

COULD COLORADO BE SMACKED AGAIN BY SCOTUS? Another 1st Amendment case from Colorado is about to be heard by the Supreme Court and if recent rulings are any indication we will lose again. What is in question?

The schools argue that Colorado is violating their religious rights by barring them from the taxpayer-funded universal preschool program over their faith-based admission policies. They say the state has allowed other preschools to prioritize children with disabilities or those from low-income families, so admission based on religious beliefs about gender and same-sex marriage should be allowed, too.

We're gonna lose this one too. Good. But then, state lawmakers will just find another way to discriminate.

THE WAR WITHIN THE WAR Saudi Arabia has taken a lot of incoming drone attacks, but not from Iran. Iran's proxies in Iraq have been firing away, showing just how extensive the terror proxies really are. This is a good article about the Gulf States and the inner battle they are fighting along with the US. To me, it should be clear that if the entire Gulf region just declared they are going all in on cleansing the Middle East of this toxic ideology it would be a game changer, but they aren't known for their courage. The weak sauce Iraqi government is letting militias backed by Iran have their way, as they fight like their largest patron is facing extermination. From the article:

Knights, who has studied the Saudi-led military campaign against Iran’s Houthi allies during Yemen’s civil war, said Saudi Arabia was likely to start launching symbolic strikes in Iraq as a warning to the militias, while Kuwait and Bahrain could allow the U.S. to use their territory for missile attacks on Iraqi militias.
The militia attacks have strained ties between Iraq’s government and its Gulf neighbors, said Abdel Aziz Aluwaisheg, assistant secretary-general for political and negotiation affairs at the Gulf Cooperation Council, an intergovernmental organization for the six Gulf monarchies.
In some instances the militias are showing themselves to be stronger than the national government, much like Hezbollah in Lebanon—a problem for Gulf states that are trying to build a relationship, he said.

Here's hoping they will handle the Iraq front while we handle the rest.

SPEAKING OF IRANIAN PROXIES Iran is now saying they've got more tricks up their sleeves and they threaten to have the Houthis close another important Strait for ships coming out of the Red Sea. The Houthis are the worst of the Iranian proxies in my view, as they have destroyed Yemen from the inside out so if they want to get the crap bombed out of them too there won't be much to blow up anyway. I hope that the appearance and problems that this militias are creating is helping people understand why Iran MUST BE FINISHED. Without Iran propping up all these extremists there is a much better chance of both peace in the Middle East long term, but also fewer threats to the world's energy supply. This as the ceasefire is supposed to end Wednesday!

THE SECRETARY OF LABOR IS OUT And I'm fine with this, I wasn't a fan of Lori Chavez-DeRemer anyway. She's resigning while under investigation for abusing her position and possibly having an affair with someone in her security detail, all of which she strongly denies.

RUSSIA'S ECONOMY IS ON THIN ICE This according to Sweden. But not JUST Sweden, as even the Russian's have had to admit their economy contracted in the last two quarters, which in economist speak means they are in recession. But according to Sweden, Russia is fudging public numbers and things are much, much worse. Read it here.

CAN WE ALL CELEBRATE ONLY HAVING FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS FOR A MOMENT? You know what I don't worry about as I zip through life in the United States? Getting eaten by a crocodile that had killed over 80 people. And yet, that was the life of people living on the banks of Lake Victoria in Uganda until Osama the Nile crocodile was captured in 2005. We have it pretty easy here after all.

WILL ENDLESS SHRIMP FINALLY END RED LOBSTER? I have SO many fond memories of Red Lobster from when I was a kid. They were THE fancy place we went when we left our small hometown to head the Big City (Jacksonville) and I loved getting a shirley temple in a fancy glass. After almost ending the chain back in 2014 by offering an Endless Shrimp promotion priced in such a way as to be unsustainable, I rooted for their return, even though there isn't one close to me anymore. Now we see they are bringing the same promotion back. Good luck, Red Lobster.
