Dave Grohl Reveals Sign He Got To Continue Music After Kurt Cobain’s Death

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl recently opened up about the sign from the universe he received to keep making music after the death of his former Nirvana bandmate, Kurt Cobain.

"When Nirvana ended, I wasn't sure what to do," the musician admitted during an appearance on the Monday (May 4) episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. "I didn't know if I wanted to continue playing music. It made me sad to think of playing in another band and losing Kurt was a really dark, emotional experience."

The "Learn to Fly" singer detailed how, after Cobain's death, he rented a car and drove around the Ring of Kerry in Ireland. It was there he received a sign that inspired him to continue his music career.

"All I wanted to do was disappear," Grohl explained. "As I was driving down this country road, I see a hitchhiker, and he had a Kurt Cobain T-shirt on. To me, I thought, this is the universe telling me, 'You have to continue. You have to move on. You have to go forward.' Music has always been the love of my life. It's helped me through some of my most difficult moments, and when I saw the kid with the Kurt Cobain t-shirt, I thought, 'Okay, I need to keep going.' I have so much reverence and respect for the past, but I need to have a future."

Cobain, the legendary frontman for Nirvana, died by suicide at age 27 in 1994. The influential rock band broke up shortly after, with Grohl going on to launch Foo Fighters.

Last month, the group released their twelfth studio album, Your Favorite Toy.
