Dan + Shay debuted the title track of the duo’s newly-announced sixth studio album on Friday (May 15).
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney released “Young,” which Smyers produced with Scott Hendricks. The ballad serves as the title track and opening song of the duo’s upcoming 10-track project that they announced on Thursday (May 14). “Young” comes to life in Dan + Shay’s new music video, which shows Smyers and Mooney transform into elderly versions of themselves, and includes an appearance by Mooney’s eldest son, Asher James Mooney, 9. Dan + Shay sing in the coming-of-age, storytelling lyrics:
“Young man thinks that he's gonna live forever/ Young man drinks like he just turned twenty-one/ Young man loves and leaves 'cause he don't know no better/ Young man thinks he'll always be young”
“Young” is the latest track to release since Dan + Shay delivered their latest single, “Say So,” last month. Smyers and Mooney wrote the moving song with David Hodges and Jimmy Robbins, and Smyers and Hendricks co-produced it. Dan + Shay previously shared that “Say So” “is a true story about a friend who we lost not long ago, and we hope it offers strength and encouragement to anyone going through a tough time.” They’ve since unveiled an unreleased ballad when they took the stage with Christian singer-songwriter Brandon Lake.
“This is by far our most personal album yet, and gives a real-time snapshot of exactly where we are in our lives,” Dan + Shay announced on Thursday. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for your patience and support while we made YOUNG. We’ve never been more proud of a batch of songs, and hope they mean as much to you as they do to us.”
Young will arrive on August 21. Watch Dan + Shay’s new music video here:
