“It’s time to tell my story.”

Wynonna Judd announced on Tuesday (June 9) that she’s telling her story on her upcoming album, The Hard Truth, this fall. The 11-track project, five years in the making, was written and recorded on Judd’s farm with her husband, Cactus Moser, producing it. Judd released the first single, “Kentucky Queen,” and announced “a homecoming run of album release shows” in her home state of Kentucky. Tickets to the “Kentucky Queen Tour” will be available Friday, June 19.

“I’ve spent a lifetime singing about heartbreak, healing, faith, and survival, but I’ve never made a record like this one,” Judd said in a statement. “These songs tell the truth about where I’ve been, what I’ve lost, what I’ve overcome, and who I’ve become. This album asked me to be brave enough to tell the truth—even when my voice shook. It challenged me to let go of perfectionism and embrace the beauty of honest emotion.”

Judd wrote “Kentucky Queen” with Moser, Sarah Siskind and Justin Weaver. “Wynonna returns to her childhood roots as an adult in triumph, recalling her aunt’s warning to “watch where the devil hides,” whooping with delight as she reclaims her home state and the parts of the past that saved her” a press release issued Tuesday morning states of the new single. “The song highlights the traditional instruments that shape the record as a whole, as Wy’s voice soars over the steam-engine rhythm section carrying listeners along.”

Judd spoke with iHeartCountry earlier this spring. She said, “music is such a healer. It really brings people together in a way that’s really necessary today in our country.” The Country Music Hall of Fame member said music is about connection and community, and listeners can sense when something is real (“people know BS when they see it and hear it, and they don’t want it anymore”).

The Hard Truth is Judd’s “most personal and powerful work yet,” the release states. The album will arrive on October 2. In addition to her “Kentucky Queen Tour,” Judd is getting ready for a co-headlining run with legendary rocker Melissa Etheridge. See her full list of upcoming tour stops below.

“My hope is that when you hear these songs, you feel what I was feeling while writing and recording them,” Judd shared. “If they help someone feel seen, understood, or a little less alone, then every hard truth was worth telling.”
