Jelly Roll has reportedly filed to divorce Bunnie Xo after nearly a decade of marriage.
TMZ was first to report the divorce filing on Monday night (June 15), stating that, per court records, the country star filed for the divorce last month in the couple’s home state of Tennessee. Unnamed sources told the outlet that “the divorce was a mutual decision,” and they’re opting to keep it “a private family matter,” the TMZ report states. The Williamson County online court records system shows Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo, Alisa DeFord, on May 18. The filing type is listed as “Divorce - NO Children,” apparently indicating they will not need to address custody of Jelly Roll’s two children from previous relationships, one of whom is still a minor. He and Bunnie Xo do not share biological children together.
Jelly Roll, 41, first met Bunnie, 46, in 2015. Bunnie previously said the friendship was “strictly platonic” at first, but they were “so drawn” to one another. The Dumb Blonde podcast host said she and Jelly Roll shared their first kiss in July 2016, and they got married the following month in a spontaneous wedding in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jelly Roll had popped the question on stage shortly before they tied the knot. They renewed their vows at the same chapel in August 2023. Jelly Roll previously said Bunnie is “my best friend,” and on her birthday this year, said “meeting this woman was arguably the most life-changing moment I ever had.” Jelly Roll has shared heartfelt tributes to Bunnie Xo over the years, including on her birthdays, when she released her first-ever book, and during acceptance speeches. He emotionally thanked “my beautiful wife,” when he won three Grammys in February. Jelly Roll debuted a romantic song for Bunnie Xo in March.
Bunnie Xo appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to talk about her bestselling memoir, Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic, earlier this year, and shared why she didn’t want others calling her marriage “couple goals.” She said in part, “I don’t like when people are like, ‘oh my God, you guys are couple goals,’ or ‘you guys are perfect.’ And I’m like, ‘you guys don’t know the hell we went through to get here.’ I think everybody thinks it’s cute to say those phrases, and I know they mean it with good intention. But at the same time, I want them to know the lore behind where we got because I don’t ever want people to compare themselves to us and think that it’s unattainable because it’s not. We’ve been through the freaking trenches together.”
Jelly Roll is a father to Bailee Ann, 18, and Noah Buddy, 9. Bunnie Xo embraced her role as a stepmother to the kids, and opened up about her hope to welcome twins via surrogate with the country artist in her memoir.
Neither Jelly Roll nor Bunnie Xo have publicly commented on the divorce as of publication time on Tuesday morning (June 16).
