Sixpence None The Richer Mourns Justin Cary After His Sudden Death At 50

Sixpence None the Richer longtime bassist Justin Cary has died at the age of 50, following a stroke.

Cary died on Thursday (June 18), according to the band's lead singer, Leigh Nash, as well as a GoFundMe established to support Cary's wife, Linda.

Per the fundraising website, the late musician "suffered a serious stroke" last week and was receiving treatment at Albany Medical Center in New York.

"We are completely heartbroken," the "Kiss Me" hitmaking band's guitarist and co-founder, Matt Slocum, told PEOPLE on Friday (June 19). "The depth of our grief proves the depth of our love for this wonderful man who was our bandmate, brother-in-arms, and friend for 30 years. Cheers amigo, see you on the other side."

Meanwhile, Nash issued her own statement via Instagram on Friday, mourning the loss of Cary.

"'We sure had a great time' is an understatement," the "There She Goes" singer wrote. "Thank you, Justin. We love you forever. Please keep his dear Linda close to your hearts. She is our family. There's never been anybody like Justin."
