Lionel Richie Shares Tour Update After Onstage Health Scare: 'Heartbroken'

Lionel Richie is putting the breaks on two of his upcoming concerts after a recent "dizzy" spell onstage forced him to abruptly end a show early.

On Thursday (June 25), Live Nation Chicago shared a update on Instagram regarding Richie's co-headlining Sing A Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, confirming that per doctor's orders "to rest and return to full health," the scheduled stops in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, on Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, have been postponed for a later date. He and Earth, Wind & Fire will return for the next show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday (June 30).

"Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans," the statement read. "We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon."

Richie, 77, was nearly an hour into his set during the opening night of tour in St. Paul, Minnesota, when he took a seat on a raised platform on stage while performing his 1986 hit "Dancing on the Ceiling."

"When you're feeling dizzy, sit your a-- down," he joked with the crowd.

After sitting at a piano for a rendition of his song "Three Times a Lady," he stepped away for an impromptu intermission and his band followed about 15 minutes later. Shortly after, his saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to explain that Richie was feeling unwell and wouldn't continue the show. TMZ reported that Richie was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
