Shadow Waited Four Days

Shadow found company four days after Jackie died. KD-1 is 4½, banded, and she's already rearranging Jackie's sticks. Conway can't quit Jackie!  

Jackie died on August 10 after nearly a month of intensive care at the Ojai Raptor Center, following her rescue near Big Bear Lake. Shadow's last nest visit had been July 23 — then on August 10, hours after her death was announced, a young, banded eagle called KD-1 turned up at the nest. She hatched in the Prado Basin in 2022, about 70 miles from Big Bear, and biologists say she's just about old enough to mate. We get into it, plus the LAX train that finally has a date.
