Emotions ran high in a Boston federal courtroom where the accused Boston Marathon bomber attended a final pre-trial hearing. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was last seen in public during his July 2013 arraignment. Wearing dark clothes, Tsarnaev told the judge he was pleased with the legal representation. Jury selection is scheduled to begin on January 5th and the trial is expected to take three to five months. If convicted of the 30 federal charges, Tsarnaev could be sentenced to death.
The courtroom was packed with media, survivors and police officers involved in the manhunt for Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan in the days after the April 2013 attacks. Near the conclusion of the hearing a woman yelled out in Russian for Tsarnaev to, quote "be strong."
