Leaders of the House and Senate are presenting Congressional Gold Medals today in honor of the Fallen Heroes of 9/11. Enacted in December of 2011, the Fallen Heroes of 9/11 Act directed that three gold medals be struck in honor of the men and women who died as a result of the September 11th attacks.
One is being provided to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania, one to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York, and one to the Pentagon Memorial at the Pentagon. The Gold Medal is the highest civilian award the United States Congress can bestow.
