Iconic British singer/songwriter Joe Cocker has passed away at the age of 70. The Yorkshire Post reports that he Cocker died after a battle with lung cancer in Sheffield, England. 

The singer's agent Barrie Marshall tells the U.K.'s BBC News, the British-born rocker is "simply unique" and "it will be impossible to fill the space he leaves in our hearts."

The raspy-voiced singer is best known for hits such as "You Are So Beautiful," his cover of the Beatles' hit "With A Little Help From My Friends" and his 1980s duet with Jennifer Warnes "Up Where We Belong." 

Cocker's version of the Beatles' hit became the theme song for the TV series "The Wonder Years." He also scored a top-five hit in the U.S. with 1975's "You Are So Beautiful" and won a Grammy Award for his number one duet with Jennifer Warnes, "Up Where We Belong" from the movie An Officer and a Gentleman.

Cocker received an OBE at Buckingham Palace in 2008 for his contributions to music.
