Kanye West says Bill Cosby is “innocent.” The rapper doesn’t care how many women have come forward, what’s been sworn under testimony, “BILL COSBY INNOCENT,” he tweeted on Tuesday. He gave no indication as to how he came to that conclusion.
Moments after West declared Cosby guilt-free of all the sexual abuse allegations leveled against him, “BILL COSBY INNOCENT” became a trending topic on Twitter. And not surprisingly, West had a fair number of supporters and detractors. A Twitter user named @qweenpush wrote, “I love you but I’ll fight you over this.” Meanwhile, a woman with the handle @__ImStillBoss tweeted, “Yall quick to say bill cosby innocent but what if your momma or sister was one of the girls that claimed it.. He still innocent?”
A user by the name @Trueborn_Pace vowed, “I’m rting every Bill Cosby innocent tweet I see Idgaf they really tried to kill that mans name and image smh.” @JustCole expressed, “Shoutout to Bill Cosby. Innocent till proven guilty.” “I think of the shows ‘Serial’ and ‘Making of a murderer’ & then I think of Bill Cosby. Innocent till proven guilty or public prosecution?” wrote @RodPoe.
A number of celebrities responded to West’s tweet, too. Sarah Silverman, for instance, wrote, “Kanye!! You can’t be for real. FIFTY WOMEN. With nothing to gain thanks to a statute of limitations ON RAPE. Oy.” Piers Morgan tweeted to the rapper “Erm,” and retweeted a suggestion from New York magazine that West read its cover story on Cosby’s accusers.
“Undermining the experience of the women involved in this situation is not the appropriate way to get album promo,” posted Tyler Oakley. And Ken Jennings remarked, “The gates are guarded by two Kanye Wests, one who always tells the truth and one who always lies.” Cosby himself has yet to comment on or even acknowledge West’s belief that he’s innocent.
