Eastern time, six o'clock Spacific. And that was one hell
of a first edition first batch of the College Football
Playoffs semi finals between Miami and Ole Miss congratulations to
the U.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
They are back the you.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
Well, they're they're they're back back to Miami where they'll
be hosting a national championship game.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Pretty awesome.
Speaker 6 (01:21):
Yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 7 (01:22):
It is.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
They were the They were the better team last night too,
if we're being honest.
Speaker 6 (01:26):
Right, Yeah, I think.
Speaker 7 (01:30):
They were.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Yeah, and they had multiple opportunities. I thought, that's what
I've really opened that game up. I've dropped picks, dropped passes,
a lot of penalties too, but ultimately, you know, they
ended up pulling it out out of penalties. Yeah, which, again,
you know, this is kind of the Miami team you've
seen throughout the course of the year for for some
(01:51):
of those Miami fans. But man, they've got I mean,
ruben Bain didn't play much of a factor and Messler
didn't play much of a factor. So give credit to
ole missus off their offensive line, just their style of play.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
He kind of knew that was going to be the case.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
I do want to ask you, you guys this, if
Kewan Lacy doesn't go out for that period of time
between the touchdown and when he came back, and he
didn't look the same when he came back, that makes
a difference to you guys, because it felt like healthy
it might have been a different game.
Speaker 7 (02:23):
He was efective. I don't.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
To me, it felt like ole Miss couldn't like Miami
was dictating terms offensively, like like that that final dry
It seemed like ole Miss defensively was really the letdown
in that game, to where I don't know that they
were going to be able to consistently stop Miami. And
you know that that last drive, their defensive gassed at
(02:47):
the end, and it's that that Miami offensive line that
you've talked about and that you know, the tackle who's
like seven to five and six hundred pounds.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's both tackles, but the left tackles.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
It's just ridiculous, and it just felt like they wore
them down. So I think it would have Yeah, it
definitely would have helped, But I don't know. Ultimately, I
think Miami was gonna win that game. I just think
they were. There were there were more opportunities, and it
felt like they played a more complete game, even though
you know things were sloppy of time and they were
lighting guys up after the whistle.
Speaker 7 (03:17):
That's the way it felt.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
I mean, I guess I believe yes, okay, okay, good.
Speaker 7 (03:25):
Yeah, I believe, Yes, he was effective even even with
his even with his his tweak after the touchdown run,
I think it was effective and being able to run,
he got tired, they pulled him out. So yeah, I
look at it as he would have been much more
(03:47):
of a factor on the game, maybe even the outcome
of the game because the defenses they you know, it
just it became easier for them to move the ball
at the end of the game, and when he was
in the game, he was able to move the ball
for them, but they did score. So I don't know
(04:09):
that there's a cause to say it would have ended differently,
but he would have had more of an impact on
the game, That's what I think.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
So he he touched the ball for the seven yard
touchdown run, it sounded like they wrapped his hamstring like
he might have tweaked it a little bit, and you
really didn't see him until about the fourth quarter. Again,
Logan Diggs came in as their backup running back and
it was fine. But just look, Kewan Lacy might be,
you know, next to Jeremiah Love, that next best running
back in the country. Like that's how good he was
(04:40):
this past season. I just kind of go back and
look at that and say, I don't know that they
had the same home run hitting ability running out of
the backfield, and it felt like even the you know,
dump down screens, it just wasn't quite there. So to
Jonas's point, sure Miami's offensive line kept leaning on them,
but I do feel like if Old Miss was gonna
win that game, and by the way them winning the
(05:01):
coin toss and accepting the ball and trying to dictate
terms then going three and out the next two drives,
that could have been.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
A worse recipe for you to go.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Win a game if that's how you want to dictate things,
and then your star running back goes out even after
you do score. Like it kind of wasn't a great start,
and it was almost like Old Miss was searching, fighting,
trying to find any way of hanging in that game.
So credit that Trinida Chombliss, credit to all involved for
staying in it. I mean, even their defense. For as
(05:32):
much as you want to say like they got worn down,
there's also moments where they got stops. The tip pick
was huge. They didn't kind of let down. They forced
field goals at times and you know, got some misses.
So it just that team fought their tail off for
everything that they were given this year. Give Old Miss
a ton of credit for what they did, because the
(05:53):
unfortunate part is Charlie West Junior's guys win LSU, as
is the rest of the offensive staff. I don't know
what's gonna happened with Trinidad Chamlas. He says he's come
back to Old Miss, but you know, it's hard to
believe anything anyone says when the portals still open. So
it's it was a tremendous run for a team that
(06:14):
obviously had kind of the odds stacked against them.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Pete Golding, the head coach of Old Miss, spoke afterwards
about the performance in that semi final last night, the semifinals.
Speaker 8 (06:24):
It's supposed to be hard, you know, and when these games,
you got to be at your best.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You gotta play at your best, you gotta coach.
Speaker 8 (06:29):
At your best, and if you don't, you don't deserve
to win miss. The semifinals go to the national championship game.
So I thought we had our opportunity by not playing
our best game, and that's what we said at halftime.
You know, we haven't played our best up to this point.
We've been here before. All right, let's go out here
and let's spot the ball and let's find a way
to make a one possession in the fourth quarter and
find a way to win a game. And our kids
came back and did that and went up and so
(06:51):
hats off to them. We just got to find a
way to close. They got to a better drop coaching.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Yeah, man, they got to look and I know they
lost and they're gonna, you know, feel like crap and
think about what if and you know, there's a miskick and.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
Doink and all the other things that came along with it.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
It felt like they just also kind of ran out
of time because what was there eighteen seconds left when
they got the ball back and they were at the
thirty five with the snap of your fingers.
Speaker 6 (07:14):
Like they were, they were right there.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
And then you know, some people are going to complain about,
you know, the no PI called. It felt like there
could have been PI called on either guy in the
end zone on that final throw. But I just think
they great showing, great story, fun to watch. A couple
of stars were made on big stages, and you know,
(07:37):
it's unfortunate, but you know, Miami just outplayed them.
Speaker 7 (07:40):
Ultimately, Ultimately they were Again, I think it does come
back to the fact that that they were a better team. Yeah,
they were. They were the better team. And and ultimately,
when you look at the game, why didn't why didn't
Chamaliss run more? I think the fact that I don't
(08:00):
know about you guys, we were waiting. I was waiting,
and then he ran and then it was effective, and
I just I don't know why he did not run
the ball more. I think that that would have maybe
opened up the game for them if he had just
got to a point of where he was like, man,
(08:22):
some of these plays, I'm gonna go ahead and run
and make it work. Because the defenses were getting tired,
both defenses, both sides were getting tired during the course
of this game. So I thought that was a major
difference as well, not just the running back tweaking his hamstring,
but the fact that Ole Miss you know, QB, you're
(08:42):
versatile and what you're able to bring to the table,
and when you did decide to start running towards the
end of the game, those were some key moments when
he pulled the ball down and started running. You know,
I thought it was an interesting game from the simple
standpoint of you had a backup coach coaching against a
(09:04):
starting coach, and you had a few coaches missing from
the team with ole Miss that weren't there for the
prior game. I think overcoming the odds in that game
would have been so interesting to see play out on
such a large stage, this late in the game in
(09:26):
the season, I should say, And you know what, Ole
Miss has nothing to be seamed. I do believe systematically
speaking or game plan wise, I thought that if they
would have been more proactive in getting the QB to
run the ball, to keep the defense a little bit
(09:48):
more honest earlier in the game, that to me might
have been the difference.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Yeah, no, I think you're right.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
I mean it was odd to see him at the
end of the game, you know, take off your goal.
Oh where's this been the whole time? And and and honestly,
like you know, credit to the Miami pass rush, because
there were there were times you know, they had someone's
spying for him. They did some different stunts and games
up front where it flushed them out of the pocket.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
There was nowhere to go with the football. And so
I'm not even sure.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Those running lanes were really there until they got gassed,
until the end of the game. But I keep going
back to if you had a little bit more quarterback
design run when when Lacy was in there. If Lacy,
you know, once he came back, it could have opened
some things up. But they also were in a pass
mode at that point, Like I'm not sure they had
the ability to at that point to do much more
than throw the football and if it's not there for
(10:36):
having to take off and run. But again, credit Ole Miss.
I mean, they really didn't allow a key Messador or
Ruben Baines Junior to impact the game. You know, Messador
had a number of tackles, but you know bain very
rarely was talked about, very really showed up. I mean,
if you're a Miami fan, these are two guys you
kind of have hung your hat on. And this is
(10:58):
also the head scratcher where you see games like the
quarterfinal game, You're going, Okay, these guys are dominating, or
even that the first round game dominating, and then they
told miss that they they're not to be found now.
Their impacts obviously fell in some of the scheme. I mean,
obviously old Miss want to get the ball the perimeter fast.
They want to get the ball out of Trinidad Chamas
hands fast. But at the same time, there's also you
(11:22):
know moments where you're like, all right, this is this
is that moment, like this is where they close out
the game and neither had a sack. It really neither
had much of an impact. So that's I think if
you're a Miami fan, you were able to win, and
you were able to you know, ultimately find a way
of slowing down an offense that's one of the better
(11:44):
in college football. And granted again, the Keywan Lacy, you know,
time that he was out, there's no doubt hurt. I mean,
the dude was averaging almost ten yards to carry and
really even just being a you know, effective as being
received in the passing game.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
But might play their best game either and they still
found a way to win in the end.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
So look, you got Miami at home hosting a national
championship game, which is wild crazy. Talked about it yesterday.
The fact that they have a chance to win the
national championship before winning an ACC championship is kind of hilarious,
but it's awesome. But also, you know, just looking at
(12:23):
I think where college football's at a third straight year
there's not an SEC team involved in the National championship game,
and you're going to have a Big ten team. It's
either gonna be Big ten or acc but either way,
there's been a changing of guards.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Nil.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
The transfer portal has created so much parody in this
game where you've got old miss you know, with the
greatest season they've ever had in school history. You've got
the you who's now back. I mean, they were a
contender last year. Now they're legitimately contending for a national championship.
And for a lot of the other schools out there
in the SEC, a lot more competition. You know, whatever
(13:00):
you're doing before recruiting, and I think we all know
what was going on that was under the table, it's
all above table now and you're seeing the impacts of that.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
You gotta be careful, man, Listen, you never know who's listening.
You gotta be careful with that stuff, especially with Miami.
Speaker 6 (13:14):
I just call it, especially with Miami. You gotta be
cared about it. Yeah, you gotta be careful about that stuff.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
By the way, you know, did you see Mario Cristaball
on the stage afterwards? It's like they're like, you got
all these like want to get on camera people who
have nothing to do with the game, and he's like
telling everybody to get out of the way, like only
players only, Like he just wants Miami folk up there
and by the way, people for like what does it
get talked about a lot?
Speaker 6 (13:39):
You talk about like.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Home grown Miami Hurricane. That's Mario crist of ball, Like
he won a couple of national titles there with the Canes,
Like that's so for him to be able to go
back and look and I know we'll get Quinn's wins
coming up later on, but if you get you know,
Oregon Miami, that storyline is a fun one to think
about where he came from and who he's going to
(14:01):
be coaching against so and and you got to give
credit to Carson Beck. I know he's had his criticisms
and there's been been a lot of people critical of
you know, his time at Georgia and how that finished up.
And that was a nuts on the table final drive
and they got it done, big third down conversion.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
So give credit where credits due man, they look at
it on.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
That it was it was it was huge for him
in every way, you know, because I think they're they're
almost to out the course of his playoffs. It almost
I don't know if it seems like they don't have
confidence in him, but they never really put him in
a position where he's had to win the game because they.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Haven't really been in it. And you know, this was
a moment where he had to step up.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
It was big third down throws, big throws for out
the course that drive and obviously scramble on the end zone.
And I go back and look at it, this is
what you should expect out of him. He's highly paid
or compensated for. You know, why he's there, you know,
to help you win a national championship. But also that's
sort of the talent and the ability that he has.
You know, he showcased that throughout the course of his career.
(15:02):
He's an older player in this game too, so this
is kind of the expectations of what he should be
out there doing. But I was happy to see him
play up to his capabilities, because again, he's a talented player.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
When they give him an opportunity to play like.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
That, We're gonna reconnect with var here. We've had some
technical difficulties here so we will connect with far shortly.
Carson Beck, though, did speak afterwards about the message the
conversation with the team as they approached that final drive
trying to win and get into a national title at home.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
Let's take a listen, that's all him.
Speaker 7 (15:35):
We got three minutes for the rest of our life.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Vote matters. Sorry, I mean to.
Speaker 9 (15:39):
Cuss emotions are Roland, but nothing else matters.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
We got three minutes to go through this, man.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
I mean, everything we've worked for since January, everything we've
been through.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
All the adversity that we faced, all.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
Comes down at three minutes in a semi finals and
we're able to drive it down and finish it.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
And there they go off and running into the home
game for the national championship. Which team are do they
have the best shot of beating?
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Well?
Speaker 5 (16:03):
Again, I always go back to just the size disadvantage
between Indiana and everyone. So I would I would say,
you're looking at Miami versus I you even though you
know Indiana's the number.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
One team and they've proved me wrong the whole year.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
Or that offensive line, that D line, I mean, it's
I would say that group. You know they probably have
the greatest advantage against but I wouldn't say it's that
far off. I mean, Indiania has been so sound the
entire season. But I think again, I'm take it. We'll
talk about it later what we're doing for tonight's game,
(16:39):
But I would think Indiana they would they would have
the best advantage against just because of sheer size and
even some of the athleticism.
Speaker 7 (16:47):
Yeah, I'll say this from from the perspective of what
took place last night. If I'm Indiana or Oregon, I
feel like there are things that you can do to
have success against that. That Miami defense. At first, it
(17:08):
didn't seem like it and I'm not sure if it
was schematically why Ole miss don't I don't want to
say struggled, but maybe were contained. Maybe they were a
little maybe they were a little conservative, like didn't want
to mess up early and do anything that would, you know,
(17:32):
lend to them not being able to stay into the
game because their defense was unable to control their front.
Obviously has already been stated, but they weren't able to
stop Miami even though the score was so low early on.
It was kind of it was strange to see how
they were unable to stop the run and but drives
(17:55):
kept stalling out. If I'm Oregon or Indiana, and you
have to obviously prepare for the game you're going to
play today. So but if I'm the coaching staff and
I'm the ones that are making sure that the preparation
for next week's game, you know obviously contingent upon if
you win today. I think there's a lot of things
(18:17):
you can do to that Miami defense. And the biggest
thing for their offense is that if you cannot control
the offensive front of Miami, they are going to force
that run and everything is going to derive from what
they're able to do and have success with running the ball.
(18:41):
And if you don't have an ungodly I mean just
a crazy uh you know, participation from from ten Tony,
I just I don't know. I don't know where Miami,
I don't If you can stop my if you can
stop Tony Maloca Tony, and and you can stop the run,
(19:07):
I don't know, man. And I think both Oregon and
both Oregon and Indiana can do both of those things.
So if I'm confident, if I'm in, if I'm going
into this game tonight, it's like we gotta win our
national title and it's one to know, it's always one
to know. But we got to win our national title tonight.
If we get to Miami, I think you can you
(19:29):
honestly can say whether it's Mandoza or or it's the QB.
What's the QB's name from?
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (19:36):
From Oregon? Joey Harrington, donta Yeah, Dante Moore No, that's
a while ago. Uh. You definitely, I definitely would feel
confident if I'm both of these teams.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Well, that may be the case. I thought Hell and
Marion stepped up in a big way.
Speaker 7 (19:51):
Number zero zero yeah, zero zero player.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Out yeah yeah. And the look they've got players. I
mean CEEJ.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
Daniels a really good player as well, So I think
they have talent. It's just, you know, one of the
things is it feels like they kept stubbing their toe
with false starts, different penalties that were like getting self inflicted.
If Miami can play a cleaner game, they probably could
have won that much more handily or at least put
more pressure on Old miss. Part of my issue is
(20:20):
more like, let's not forget this team. They lost SMU,
they lost to Louisville, Like they've got some bad losses. Too,
like this is not a team that didn't have it's
kind of scars throughout the course of the year where
you go back and watch and go like they you know,
underachieved and a couple of those performances.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
So they're four as a team.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
It's lower than you think, and it's one of the
reasons why you go look at Indiana.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
It's like, well, you could say they haven't.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
Played as many like tough games, but every single tough
game they play, they win, like they find a way
of winning.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
So I don't know why.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
I always feel like eventually they're gonna stub their toe
because they have it this season, but they've got two
tough opponents left now in Oregon and then obviously Miami
if they can make it past Organ. I just I
don't know something about Oregon, Dante Moore, their speed, their ability,
Like Organ's that team that I said this when the
playoffs started, I had the feeling that Oregon was like
Ohio State last year, where it was like, you know,
(21:14):
people tend to forget how good Organ was last year
and then they just dropped one game the playoff.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
They've been building.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
To this and I feel like Oregon, you know, looked
like that team that Yeah they lost I you earlier
in the season, but it may have been a good
reset for them and now they feel kind of poised
maybe to to go beat Indiana and win it all.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
I will say this, with the penalties, the helmet to
helmet and all that stuff, and then you know, the
very I think it was the very next play there
was a late hit like it wouldn't be Miami football
without a little bit of rough around the edges type stuff.
Speaker 6 (21:46):
You know that that did feel like.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
So if for whatever reason it ends, I'm just saying
that means, for whatever reason.
Speaker 7 (21:51):
You don't know exactly what happened.
Speaker 6 (21:53):
A little bit of an edge, you know, a little
bite to right. Yeah, you think if you think I.
Speaker 7 (21:59):
Call it, I know you can't spell, you can't smell
bite without you.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
If you think, you think Indiana, you think structure, discipline,
buttoned up, and then you think Miami and you think,
you know, blow like it's just it is.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
Here's what it is, you know.
Speaker 7 (22:22):
I mean, but his name is crystal Ball, you know, I.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
Mean like a cystal.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I heard it was snowing out in the desert after
the game.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
It would not would SnowCat say would not be a surprise,
and they they did big time. There was clearly a
difference by the way between the Yeah, the fan base. Yeah,
it's a little different, you know, just a little different
between Ole Miss and what they brought to the game,
what Miami brought to the game.
Speaker 7 (22:54):
They both traveled well though, I mean every time something
big happened. And listen, I I saw how Old Miss
does things when we played Old Miss uh In in
Atlanta a few years back. They travel well, they are
that is a fine fan base. I'll tell you that.
In Miami obviously they travel really well. And then this
(23:17):
next upcoming game will be a home game for them,
and it's going to be pretty crazy. But it's interesting
that that you would point that out. It did, like
just even from the start, like you got Eli Manning
and Patrick Willis yeah right, a very very traditional looking
way of coming out. They were a little late, Patrick,
(23:38):
yeah right, a little late. But did you see Ray
and and Edge come walking out and we just you
knew from the start, you knew, you knew from Florida
the coin flip. These were two different cultures that was
coming together, you know.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Yet, great game though, great fourth quarter and that congrats
to the U. By the way, speaking of gam this
important stuff. All right, people listening right now, you need
to pay close attention because here's a game day tip.
Order Pizza Hut before the QB shouts the first Hut
and if you're hungry, the big New Yorker's got those
giant foldable slices and right now it's just ten bucks,
(24:14):
the biggest pizza for the biggest games, only at Pizza Hut.
All right, So listen up. This is a cool little
deal we got going on here. But you've got to
be sticking around so you can take part in this
and have an opportunity for something really cool on.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
That works bad? Yeah, that works Patty Sweet, what do
you got said? Okay?

(32:32):
Cave upgrade and a pizza every week for a year
from Pizza Hut Again. Tune into this show today at
eight am Eastern Time and listen for the word hut.
Speaker 7 (32:42):
Where does that word even come from? I don't know
where did hut come from? I mean it had to
be something, right, yeah, I mean everybody says hut, so hut, Like,
I don't get where where did that come from?
Speaker 6 (33:01):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Well, no, like Omaha, bluego, you know that was that
was the thing? Oh blue, you know. And then there's
the what was the dac one? Here we go, Here
we go, Here we go? Like people mix it up
a little bit.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
Does anybody say hike anymore?
Speaker 2 (33:18):
I no one says that.
Speaker 7 (33:19):
I think there was anybody. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 12 (33:23):
I looked up some history here on the word hut.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
What do you have there, Rena Well?
Speaker 14 (33:28):
The football term hut originates from military marching commands, specifically
a ton huts yeah, as a replacement for one in
counting hut two three four adopted by football players and
coaches after World War Two for its clarity and.
Speaker 7 (33:43):
Consciousness makes a ton of sense. That was fast thought
about it. Yeah, fast research, right, ray And that's awesome.
Which which is well that we have so much connections?
Speaker 6 (33:53):
Which did you use to get that?
Speaker 12 (33:56):
I use regular Google?
Speaker 2 (33:57):
All right?
Speaker 6 (33:58):
Because you know what will happened? You go to grock
that be a different answer.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Well that like Google still has their own AI that
does that.
Speaker 12 (34:05):
So yeah, it's gotten much better in the past.
Speaker 7 (34:08):
Yeah, it's definitely military though it's it's definitely military. So
that's that's pretty cool.
Speaker 6 (34:14):
Well, I know who's not going to be hearing Hut
in Miami any longer. Don't want to be Michae McDaniel.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
Oh dang.
Speaker 7 (34:21):
While one was losing, Yeah, the other was winning.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Why they have to wait until Thursday to fire him?
Speaker 7 (34:28):
Because they didn't want to fire him on Black Monday.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Deal.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
Yeah, I had to get I had to get over
halfway the week before you let him go. You gotta
h oh, you gotta be careful man, you do me.
(34:54):
I mean they called it black Monday. I mean you
don't want no smoke when you when you haimmer.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
I thought that they may need got a reassurance from
John Harbaugh given after we talked to Albert Breer yesterday.
He gave us the insight of, hey, there's a horrball
connection there. They've tried to hire a different Harbaugh at
a point in time, so maybe there's a little more
something there. But he also talked about the difficulties with
(35:22):
how that would work, you know, getting reassurances from John
that he would be the guy, he'd get the guy,
but then you're going through a bunch of interviews just
to satisfy the Rooney rule. And obviously John Harbaugh's me
a hotly you know, I attracted attractive owner or excuse me,
head coach for any owner.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
So it's going to be tough to see.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
If Miami indeed ends up getting the guy I think
they think they're going to get, or if he chooses elsewhere.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
Jeff Darlington, your guy, was going through it because basically
he was being accused of being a cabana boy for
the Dolphins, because he came out with the statement and said,
look this, the firing of Mike McDaniel was independent of
John Harbaugh being available, and so of course nobody believed him.
(36:13):
But he went back to Tony Sperano, Jim Harbaugh, when
they went through that whole process, they never felt right
about the fact that they went and interviewed a coach
while they had a head coach in the building, and
so he basically was just letting people know, Look, I
understand why this would come across as you not believe,
(36:34):
not a believable story, or you not. But that's that's
at least his perception of it and the information he
was given to people.
Speaker 6 (36:41):
But I look at it and I go.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
Yeah, it may not be everything, but I think this
did speed up the process that Harvard doubt.
Speaker 6 (36:49):
So what changed?
Speaker 2 (36:51):
What changed? This team hasn't been in the playoff hunt.
You know this, This this team has.
Speaker 5 (36:57):
Been out of it for a while, and you've probably
had in the back of your had an idea of
what you want to do at the head coach position
from that point. Once you're eliminated from the playoffs, everything
starts to get reevaluated, and once that Week eighteen game comes, you're.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Ready to kind of figure out your plan moving on
to the next season.
Speaker 5 (37:18):
And it doesn't need to wait until Thursday of that
following week heading into the wildcard round to then make
that decisions. It leads everyone to speculate that this has
everything to do with the candidates that are out there.
And by the way, that's understandable. You know, I understand
that there's you know, a thought, you know, to looking
(37:42):
bad for the organization. Who cares if John Harball gets
hired and the Dolphins win a Super Bowl? Is anyone
going to look back and go, hey, remember they fired
Mike McDaniel because they wanted to hire John Harball.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
Remember that process one is anyone going to talk about that?
Speaker 7 (37:59):
I wonder will On Harball's look changed progressively over the years,
like Mike McDaniels did, Like it was kind of interesting.
He came in pretty clear, like he was kind of
a I don't know, it was more conservative look to
him than you know, once he evolved. You know, his
(38:19):
hair got a little bit longer, a little bit you know,
had a little bit of a wet look to it.
You know, the glasses went from a little bit more
conservative to a little bit more edgier. I mean kind
of like what you would like referencing earlier on with
the Miami hurricane, Jesus, it looked he just had a
little different look to him.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Man, You just saying, as you mentioned, he channeled that
other half. Is that what you're saying, So what you're
trying to get at, I'm.
Speaker 7 (38:46):
Not gonna say he channeled another half. I'm gonna say
he channeled his He evolved into a Miami.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
And the idea that because he was, like Mike McDaniel
spoke earlier this week and said that he was going
to be a part of the GM process, and like
like he he operated as if he was under the
impression he was going to be around and then and
so then Chad Alexander gets interviewed, and Albert Breer was
(39:15):
pointing this out yesterday and was just saying, you know, listen,
Chad Alexander, all of a sudden starting was part of
the interview process for GMS. He's got a relationship with
Harbaugh and so that was sort of an indication that
maybe there was an understanding that this may become a possibility,
because why was he all of a sudden a candidate.
And then next thing, you know, the story is Stephen Ross,
(39:40):
Dolvin's owner, met with Mike McDaniel.
Speaker 6 (39:43):
They were, you know, in the midst of their meeting
and whatnot. The other day they.
Speaker 4 (39:48):
Just decided after the meeting, you know what, we need
to go ahead in a different direction.
Speaker 6 (39:52):
We need to change.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
Well, if that was the case, why didn't you just
fire him when you fired the GM, Like, why didn't
you just make the move then? Because I don't know
that Mike McDaniel would have benched Tua the way that
he did if he was under the impression that he
was his job was on the line and he was
going to be out the door, because Tua would have
given them a better chance to win down the stretch,
(40:14):
even though they you know, won a few games. I
think two is the better quarterback on that team. Why
he would bench him in that spot? That meant to me, Well,
he thinks he's safe. Then Harball becomes available, and then
you know, kats out of the bag, He's gone.
Speaker 7 (40:30):
What if it isn't What if it isn't Harba, I mean,
does it still sound crazy like if they get Stefanski?
I don't feel like there's any I don't feel like
there's anything wrong with that either. What if it isn't Harble, Well,
what if it is Kevin Stefanski?
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Sure? I just I think to sit there and say,
if you're the.
Speaker 5 (40:47):
Dolphins organization that the firings of other organizations haven't impacted
your decision.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
Of who you have.
Speaker 5 (40:57):
Yeah, and I think that's that's what we're talking about
right now, is you know Mike McDaniel gets to Jonas's point,
if you knew that you wanted to pair a head
coach and a general manager together, you would have fired
Mike McDaniel during the season then, because giving him the
reassurance that you know he was going to be a
part of the GM process or he was safe, and
(41:18):
allowing him to play quinn Ewers, who's a rookie who
mind you like, you know, could have played great, could
have helped.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Him win a game. Who knows he did.
Speaker 5 (41:27):
What I'm saying to Jonas's point, Tuas still gave you
the best chance to win, and you took him out
and you convinced anotherwise. So it almost like you kind
of set Mike McDaniel up to bear to bear his
own coffin, which is so unfortunate.
Speaker 7 (41:43):
He didn't draft him, He didn't, he didn't dress, not
his quarterback. He was brought in to save that quarterback.
He didn't draft him. But that's that's another topic. But dang,
you had to base. He had to base his job
security off of a guy he didn't even draft. That's
kind and quin your did come in and give give
the team a little bit of a boost, what for
(42:04):
like two or three games?
Speaker 2 (42:05):
What was it?
Speaker 7 (42:06):
I think they didn't lose until what two? Gay, I
don't know. Anyways, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
Is there a chance you just said that without having
any idea how Miami is?
Speaker 7 (42:16):
No, because I remember how many I remember quinn yours was?
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Okay? I do did Miami win their final game of
the season, LeVar.
Speaker 7 (42:24):
I believe they lost their final game of the season.
I believe did they win. They lost three to ten
to the newing Them Patriots. I believe they won the
week before. I believe they won the last two weeks before.
Speaker 5 (42:36):
They beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week seventeen and.
Speaker 7 (42:40):
We went winning streak. They went on like a multiple game.
Speaker 5 (42:45):
They got they got blown out by Cincinnati in Week
six four.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
Yeah, they thought they.
Speaker 7 (42:51):
Were like a three game They had like a three
game maybe two was still in there though. They went
on like a three game, four game winning streak.
Speaker 5 (42:59):
I do believe they lost in week fifteen on Monday
Night Football to the Steelers.
Speaker 7 (43:04):
This is maybe it was two games.
Speaker 6 (43:05):
Maybe that's when you remember.
Speaker 5 (43:07):
It wasn't it was a game They've won a game
down the stretch there. They beat the Jets. That was
like week fourteen, maybe like the beginning of December.
Speaker 6 (43:14):
Do you remember a month ago? Do you remember?
Speaker 4 (43:16):
That's when he was to us on the field with
Jalen Ramsay and it was like, man, what you know,
why is he chopping it up with this guy? You
know it was a former teammate. But they just they
just lost and he played poorly and and that's when
they started making the move and and Quinn, you wers
got the start and they won one. They beat Tampa
second to last week, which.
Speaker 7 (43:35):
That was am I am?
Speaker 6 (43:36):
I off?
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Hold on on?
Speaker 7 (43:39):
Is this the wrong? Did they did?
Speaker 2 (43:41):
They beat the Bills?
Speaker 6 (43:43):
Yeah, they went on a four game winning streak. Yeah,
but that was that.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
And Novembers not early.
Speaker 7 (43:51):
That's not early, Okay.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
I mean, do you are you trying to sound right?
Speaker 7 (43:56):
I don't want to split theirs. They thought it was.
I all I'm saying is I remember a four game
winning streak. That's all I'm saying. I didn't know there's
one that. Yeah, it was a four game winning streak.
I just mixed it up. I thought that they went
on a little run with yours though, but that it
was earlier, that.
Speaker 2 (44:15):
Was with Tua.
Speaker 7 (44:17):
And it doesn't matter because it doesn't. They stink, so
it doesn't it really, it doesn't even matter to argue
it like, it doesn't matter. The bottom line. It's said that.
It's said that my mixed brethren lost his job off
of off of handling things with.
Speaker 4 (44:38):
That.
Speaker 15 (44:38):
He didn't even draft. He's ours too, he's ours to defend.
We shall go up to go up top for him.
You know you's top on it. Hey, let's all three,
let's all three go up top.
Speaker 7 (44:49):
He's all ready one that's losing all of ours. Nor no,
I will not. I will not.
Speaker 6 (45:01):
He's got he's got it. I for God's sakes.
Speaker 7 (45:04):
He did look like a character out of Top Gun though,
the sequel, the reboot, not the original, not the origin,
the original like the original one when he originally got hired,
and then the reboot he looked like the reboot one.
Yeah there you go.
Speaker 4 (45:21):
Yeah, all right, So how would they get So they've
got to be careful.
Speaker 6 (45:25):
It's I mean, I guess you get I don't know
if careful is the right word.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
So did they just Well, so what's odd to me
is you had.
Speaker 5 (45:31):
An in house candidate to be their inter head coach,
and Anthony Weaver, and I'm sure he'll get an interview,
and he should get an interview. I wouldn't be shocked
if he didn't, you know, stay on the staff because
he's a really good defensive coordinator. And I think and
then he he might interview for other head coaching jobs
because that's how he's viewed. So so Anthony Weaver I
think will be one of their first interviews, or I
(45:52):
would I would think that'd be the case. But it
just still goes back to the original point.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
If you're going to.
Speaker 7 (46:00):
Well, hey, look we're going to do these interviews, but
we're hiring you, so don't take anybody else's job. We're
hiring you. We just got to go through the process,
all right, Okay, good?
Speaker 5 (46:09):
Well, but would you want that, like, would you want
to be Hey, I'm gonna interview you just to check
a box and we want you back as your defensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
But you know, we guess a lot.
Speaker 7 (46:18):
Of people are so thrown off by the Rooney rule,
right because at the end of the day, do you
know if an organization is saying that to a coach,
and in this one, this is probably as clear an
idea of that as you're going to get right, Like, hey, hey, John,
we're going to go through the process. But if you're
(46:39):
telling us you want to be a Miami Dolphins head coach,
we want you to be the head coach, So don't
take another job. Like you can do an interview, that's fine,
but please, like, let's be on like and I think
you said this on the show yesterday, Like, there is
a lot of ancestrious and real, real like cronyism that
(46:59):
goes on within the league. So those relationships are in place,
and you are going to have those conversations with confidence,
like we're going to hire you. If you're saying you
want to come here, we're saying we want you. Don't
take another job before we complete what we need to complete.
Check in the boxes. To me, I think that that's
why the Rooney rule in a lot of ways, it's
(47:21):
a joke. It's only for public To me, it's only
for public consumption to say, hey, we're going for change,
We're promoting change and inclusion and all those things. But
in reality, behind the scenes, in a situation like this,
it's everything but that and it doesn't like I don't
know how you go down that lane with it, you
know what I mean? But the bottom line good good, Well.
Speaker 5 (47:44):
I was pointing out more from like Anthony Weaver's perspective,
like if you know that Harbaugh is the guy that
they want and they ask you to interview, it's like, well,
what's the point so you can check a box for
you guys like I might want to be a head
coach and interview, you know, like because and really what
I'm trying to say is, if they were going to
make this move on January eighth, twenty twenty six, I
(48:10):
do wonder if they would have gone back and said,
let's have Anthony Weaver be the interim head coach.
Speaker 2 (48:16):
We'll move on from Mike McDaniel. Now we can you know, make.
Speaker 5 (48:20):
This change on the roster to have Quinn you were
a start, we can check out some of these younger players.
There's just a lot of other ways they could have
gone about doing this, And I do feel like, well,
I don't feel like it was I feel like they
set Mike McDaniel up to fail. Correct if The entire
reason why they're playing Quinn years at the end of
the season is because he thinks he's safe going into it.
And then you go through Black Monday, you go through
(48:41):
the course of the week, and it's not until you
have to bring in a GM candidate that more matches
up or aligns with John Horriball once he becomes available,
that it then appears like, oh wait, maybe you know,
maybe Mike McDaniel isn't gonna be the guy.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
I just I feel like.
Speaker 16 (48:59):
They I mean the GM or the So this is
the other part of the story, at least what they're
trying to tell people that their process is such that
they're going to hire the GM first because they want
the GM to make the coaching hire.
Speaker 4 (49:18):
Which is why people look at that and say, well,
it's probably going to be Chad Alexander, Like Chad Alexander's
probably going to be named GM, and then he's going
to hire Harbor like it's a whole song and dance
like in reality like this is they know what they're doing,
they know what they're going to do, and now they're
trying to get out in front of it because they're
sensitive to how it looked to Tony Sperano when they
(49:40):
went and interviewed Jim Harbaugh while they had a head
coach there, like just like it's all bs and I
just wonder how long did they delay so that they
make it look like we went through our due diligence
and man, of all the people we're going to hire
his GM, it's Chad Alexander.
Speaker 7 (50:00):
Of all the its just it's like I had my choice.
I had my choice for GM for the Miami Dolphins.
I tell you that.
Speaker 6 (50:11):
Could have changed my life.
Speaker 7 (50:14):
Like so long slackers, Yeah, who is.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
That gonna be?
Speaker 6 (50:20):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (50:21):
But hey, all I'll say is Steve. Steve is my
guy man. Steve Me and Steve we were thickets stieves.
Speaker 6 (50:28):
So Steve who uh Steve Kyme former Fox Sports radio

Speaker 7 (50:34):

PA guy wolf Pack did a fine job of working
with my man, you know Arians, you know and Arizona.
It would have been nice to see him get a
little little noother opportunity.
Speaker 2 (50:53):

Sometimes you can't get to everything in the world of
sports or entertainment. Good thing, the guys are here to
bring you in case you missed.
Speaker 4 (55:54):
It, And for that we turn it over to our
executive producer, the one and only Patrick sweeka petty spree.
Speaker 7 (56:00):
Yeah, what up?
Speaker 2 (56:01):
Guys?
Speaker 7 (56:02):
What of Jonas hiv aar Hi Brony cowboy?
Speaker 11 (56:08):
How did Pada?
Speaker 2 (56:08):
Well?
Speaker 10 (56:09):
You know what, Patna, it's time to do in case
you missed it. And guys, oh boy, we got a
good one here. So Jimbo Fisher appeared on the ACC
Network earlier, predating the old Miss Miami spot. Right yesterday
he unloaded here on Lane Kiffin for not letting more
of the former ole Miss assistants help the rebels, you know,
(56:30):
try to finish the job.
Speaker 11 (56:31):
You actually, I have some sound to play. Give a
listen here.
Speaker 6 (56:33):
It's selfish, that's what it is. It's stupid.
Speaker 13 (56:36):
And because here's why I say that, he wanted a
coach and thought he didn't get his way. So everybody
get on the plane with me. You don't have a
job all right, and he makes them all go. Then
he gets down here and takes a pr hit because
it looks bad that you really don't care about the kids.
Then he says, okay, you can go back. But here's
where he screwed up.
Speaker 6 (56:52):
He thought they were gonna lose it.
Speaker 13 (56:53):
He thought they're gonna lose a Georgia. The portal thing
was all over with and it was gonna.
Speaker 7 (56:57):
Be all over with.
Speaker 13 (56:58):
He said, Oh, I'll look like a hero. He's got
a egg on his face because the real lane came
back out. You know what I'm saying. And if those
guys were allowed to coach a first game, they should
be allowed to coach before. Because those guys are doing
those kids are doing something that you get one time
in your life to ever do that team and those
guys one time. And as a coach, Litten, I know
I've left a job.
Speaker 6 (57:16):
I'll get that.
Speaker 13 (57:17):
But if you took them all, took them all, said
they're never coming back, that's fine. You set the rules
of the game. You don't change the rules in the
middle of the game. And as a coach, it's hurting
the kids and it pisses me off.
Speaker 7 (57:27):
M spicy sounds about right though, I mean I don't
I don't know the details of it all. But why
were you not there? You're there for the last game,
but you're not there for this one. I mean sounds
kind of right to me.
Speaker 6 (57:41):
I mean, you know, it sound like Jimbo Fisher is.
Speaker 4 (57:45):
You know, there's nothing in his hat, was nothing in
his past that you would look at and go maybe
not maybe not the voice you want to hear from
in this.
Speaker 7 (57:54):
Spot, you know, I mean, but I mean he's not
in that incorrect. No, he's not sick, always not. I mean,
you could be a hypocrite, but still you're still I mean,
that doesn't make what he said incorrect.
Speaker 5 (58:06):
No, it's just you know, you want to the messenger
is not a hypocrite point out.
Speaker 7 (58:12):
Yeah, I get it.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
It's like it's like two used car salesmen insulting each other.
Speaker 7 (58:17):
It's like, yeah, well, I mean, okay, better to do
it if you if you know what you're looking at,
who better to talk about it you don't. I'm just
saying he wasn't wrong.
Speaker 4 (58:27):
Yeah he got paid though, he's good.
Speaker 7 (58:32):
Yeah, I mean, yeah he did.
Speaker 6 (58:34):
Yeah, yes, he did. Eighty million dollar check. Not bad.
Speaker 7 (58:38):
Still getting it
