This is a new song. Yeah, it's much it's much smoother,
it's it's much much. Uh, it's a better vibe. Yeah,
get this one out of the park.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
It is a better vibe. This is a banger. Yeah,
it's a better That's one of my all time favorite bands. Underrated,
good bands, underrated Stone Temple Pilots.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Well they kind of get well, they get lost in the.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Whole, like grunt eras and stuff like that. Yeah, they
can kind of get lost, kind of left behind.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
But Charlotte, but you don't lead.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Scott Wiland was a football player, is that right, the
little meathead jock guy growing up. I'll relaxed, bro, that
doesn't met him. That's not when I was in college,
you know, was in college.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Only que Which band is this Stone Tile Pilot. I
believe he is a revolver who he went to after this? Yeah, yeah,
did some stuff.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
So he came up during a when we when Notre
Dame goes to the West Coast for like that Stanford
or Southern col game.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
They used to have.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
This like big event with the Notre Dame a network
out there, the alumni base, and so he came up
and I was like, oh cool, Like I got to
meet him, Like really didn't listen to that music at
that time, a little bit of stun temple.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Pilots, but not what he was doing then.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
And then I saw him come back out for a
performance later on, so I pretty like later on in life,
but like pretty pretty cool stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
You hanging out with the rock stars.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
I didn't say hanging out. I just said I met
him once, Brett Michaels. I didn't say we knew each other.
I said he touched me on the shoulder.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
I was.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
I was thinking about Gladiator, you know, like you know
when dude got his freedom and Caesar touched him with
the wooden sword and said.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
I didn't say I know him. How have you not
seen that? Everything? I've seen bits and pieces, never all
the way through.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
It's very telling of who you are as a person.
If you've not seen the movie, I've seen it all
the way through. I like it too, right, Yeah, I don't.
I don't feel like I need to tell you what
that means. It just it just furthers the conversation of
how weird you are, Bro your touch mother lover damn like,
And if we were off the air, I'd definitely throw
mother effort at you really touched Just.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Turn the mic up and say, let's do it. He did.
There we go, all right, now I get here, you go.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
All right? It makes sense? Yeah, all right, that's fair.
Go watch the movie immediately upon arrival to your home today.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Well, they'll be.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Watching a lot in Pittsburgh, just not football. Well they
have time to watch Gladiator one and two now and
boy and Aaron Rodgers could put it on repeat. And
you know, yeah, if you were looking for for an
offensive output for the Ages, uh, I wouldn't recommend.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Going back and watching that game last night. That was
wrong on both sides. J Stroud struggled. The Texans didn't
look great on offense. It felt like great defense too. Like,
I don't know why we can't just give credit to
the defenses. Those are two of the better defenses in
the NFL.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Because it's more fun. Okay, maybe that guy.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
I give a ton of credit to the Texans defense.
I believe it was Pittsburgh's offense that led to the
demise of Pittsburgh's defense. That's that's kind of how I
shook it out.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
It was that's one of those to give them the
side is when they come off Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
It was like, hey man, y'all are going backwards, like
we're fighting our asses off to to keep us in
this game. And y'all are not only going backwards on on.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
On the plays, but on drives.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
But you're getting you're coming off of the field very quickly.
Like we can help, y'all, we can help, but you know,
can you give us a tad bit of time to
to rest.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
You know, I was getting so excited to go to
the fourth court. I was like, all right, we got
a ball game, seven six, here we go. It's gonna
come down to one of those final two minutes.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
What up?
Speaker 1 (05:08):
It just it just broke wide over a party because
they were I mean, they were slowly wearing down, and
I think like give credit to the coaching staff for detetions.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
They knew it.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
They knew this was like they saw what type of
game it was turning out to be. That's why they
just turned to the run, Like efitt, we're just gonna
we're just gonna bang it. We're gonna bang these Steelers
in Pittsburgh. Nonetheless, we're gonna visit Pittsburgh. We're gonna touch
down on the North Shore. Rivers is right there, y'all.
Y'all gonna go over to the sports booking to the
(05:42):
tables over there as soon as the game's over, because
there's not gonna be any postgame parties, no DK talking about.
I had to turn around and go home because there
was too much traffic to try to get to where
we're at an across shore to have a good time
and party after the victory. Was not a Baltimore Ravens
evening for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
And and and the Texans knew it. They knew it.
They knew if.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
They brought that that pressure the way that everybody knew
they were going to bring the pressure. And they didn't
have an answer for it that if you run the ball,
they're going to wear down.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
At what moment is it going to happen?
Speaker 1 (06:20):
They may have not have known, but within four quarters
there's a strong possibility that the team would fall apart,
and they did.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
So I think, I mean, can't you just like at
some point, you know, with how bad that division was
this year and how inconsistent, you know, maybe like a
little wife swap situation where like the Bengals give you
their offense and you let them borrow or vice versa.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
It's something along those lines. Because I watched it, that
would be interesting I think.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
My thought and who do you think, who do you
want would be better for the playoffs when it came
to the Ravens and the Steelers winning that game last week,
and and I thought, the only team that I think
has potential threat to anybody's Baltimore out of that division.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Because Lamar Jackson would be able to move around and
run versus that type of pressure.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
But he didn't do it. He didn't do it against Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
So if he was going to be to Lamar Jackson
that played against Pittsburgh, you're not going to get what
you thought you were going to get from the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Like they completed like Rogers found feeling on like it
was like a twenty yard game and the crowd went
nuts all lie and they got to like the forty
I saw them dudes come walking out.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Did you guys watch the pregame part of it, Like
when they were talking and stuff like that. When the
Texans came walking out for warm ups, I said, my
guy that said, holy moly, did you see the way
they looked tall.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
The best defense in the league, it's not even close them.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
But physically them dudes, I was like, I was I
was like, Trish, look at their arms, and she was like,
what's wrong, you know, because she's a mom now, right,
like so she's like thinking about her kid.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
I get.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
She's like, oh, I saw that the arm brakes on him.
I was like, yeah, go back to SIMS. It's it's
all good.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
You know, she's still doing SIMS. She bruh. She should
be a designer. She should be like a bruh.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
She could design y'all's homes impeccably. It would be freaking phenomenal. Anyway,
I'm looking at these dudes and I'm like, that's impressive.
They came walking out and they if they weren't yoked
up like like like King of the Jungle yoked up,
then they were like more like you know, like dragged
(08:39):
the the knuckles on the ground, yoked up like Neanderthal.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Big, like just big dudes. Whoa they Bill?
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I mean, yeah, let me tell you got some Neanderthals
along that that that defensive front things is going to shake.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Things is going to move. I'm not comfortable. Why way
to alienate Brady. And from the discussion here.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
If you look at Neanderthals, most of them aren't you know,
considered to be like your complexion.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
That means to ask this question, Yeah, yeah, do we
think that's Aaron Rodgers last game?
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Yes, it has to be. It has to be absolutely,
first of all to me, all right, let me throw
a question back at you. Is it Aaron Rodgers choice
as to whether it's his last game or not? Yeah,
that's a good question. I think it is. I think
it is because look, they helped you win the division.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Anyone can say whatever they want about the division about
they won the division, they got to the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
My issue is, I just it's such a hard offense
to watch. Man, it is so bad to watch.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
I mean, I was just doing a breakdown of his
like entire season as far as the targeted depth of
Suthers throat.
Speaker 6 (10:05):
What was it?
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Three yards? Damn well no, no, no, no, it's so
I can only do this. God, I'm sorry to point
it feels that right, right, Okay?
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Two thirds of every pass goes either behind the line
of scrimmage or within nine yards of the line of scrimmage,
which it feels that way, like it feels like it's
just a dink and dunk, which it's such a long departure.
I've said this before from what he was as an MVP,
from what he was at Green Bay. It is tough
(10:42):
to watch and it's it's almost similar to like when
Riley Leonard came in for the Colts.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Granted they didn't win the game, but that last game
of season, I'm like, oh, there it is some deep
shots downfield, a couple of big plays. Where's this beIN
It's like, Oh, you went with a forty four year
old Philip Rivers who wasn't pushing the.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
Ball out of the field, and it's like, now, that's
what you need to do in order to put up
points and it create big plays. You can't expect to
go ten eleven, twelve, thirteen play drives every single drive.
It just it doesn't happen. Dk Metcalf's gonna drop a
ball he or someone's gonna get beat up front because
we have a tackle for lost year behind the sticks,
(11:26):
or there's gonna be a miscommunication with something Rogers does
like it just it just it's not what wins in
the NFL anymore, And forget that, it's not what wins
a college football anymore. Like defenses have gotten too good
to the point where you can't consistently drive down the
field for double digit plays and expect to win games
(11:47):
or score a bunch of points.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
You can't. It's so frustrating to watch. And it's not
like he doesn't have a good arm. It could still
do it like he can. There's examples of that. I
don't know if it's Arthur Smith's philosophy. I don't know
if it's what Aaron Rodgers wants. I just know it
(12:08):
stinks to watch.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
It's it's such a long departure from what it used
to look like when he was back there, and they've
got the players to do more.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
So I don't know if it's his last one or not.
I just know, like every time, I'm going, oh man,
it's interesting. You said, is it the offensive coordinator? You know?
Speaker 3 (12:31):
I had.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
I had a conversation. I interviewed our new offensive coordinator
at Penn State, Taylor Taylor Mauser and young.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Dude, Young dude and Broy. She got that right.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
The amount of energy that came off of him was
freaking amazing. I start thinking to myself, and this is
relevant to the Pittsburgh Steelers because we continue to have
the conversation about the offense and how neptid is through
the years. This isn't just an Arthur Smith deal. This
(13:10):
has been a Pittsburgh Steeler deal. They've had different quarterbacks,
they've had different receivers, they've had different coordinators. What's been
the constant. It's Mike Tomlin. And while we may may
look at it and think differently, that's the common denominator.
(13:30):
So I was thinking about this, like, after I did
this interview with this this new offense coordinator, I was like,
my god. I was like James Franklin had gotten to
a point where the beatdown of the fan base, the media,
everything that he had going on, had taken such hold
of how he handled things, whether it was the way
(13:53):
he interviewed and the things that he said very measured,
super measured, because you're always protect yourself, there's no trust.
I feel like Mike Tomlin, Like when Mike Tomlin was
banging his chest after they beat the Ravens. He's not
banging his chest because he's happy for them winning the game.
Speaker 7 (14:12):
He's banging his chest because of all of the critics
that are sitting there throwing him out there and have
been saying he needs to lose his job or he
needs to be in question for a job that's been
the narrative for quite some time with Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
I think you get to.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
A point where you're more focused than on staying within
the parameters of what you've created, your structure of what
you created, rather than just being a coach that just
lets it go like what got you there. When you're
trying to get there, you don't just live in process.
(14:48):
You do process, you do structure, but you take chances,
you take risks. You know, when you feel like you
could lose it at any point in time, somebody can
come get you at any point in time.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
You don't.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
You stay within the parameters because within the parameters.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
You can say, here's what we did. I can show
you it, here's the information. Yeah we lost in the
first round, but we made it to the first round.
Yeah we didn't get out of the first round. We
made it to the wildcard round, but we won the
AFC North. You get to a point of where you
use justification versus just being loose and getting after it.
And I felt that when I did that interview yesterday,
(15:25):
and I kind of feel like, when you look at
the Pittsburgh Steelers, there could be that could be what's
going on in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
The common denominator is.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
You have a coach that may have the same type
of approach, the same type of feeling based off of
the same fan base too. By the way, in terms
of the big game now we're talking to playoffs. The
big game is the playoffs for Mike Tomlin, and he
can't seem to get out of the first round, can't.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Seem to do it. Tomlin spoke afterwards about his future
and a little message he might have for fans. Following
another playoff loss. That's seven losses in a row in
the postseason for the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Here was my t do you approach a decision about
your future?
Speaker 8 (16:11):
I'm not even in that mindset as I sit here tonight.
I'm more in the mindset of what transpired in this stadium,
and you know, certainly what we did and didn't do.
Not a big picture mentality to sit here tonight. Disappointment
again when you don't get it done. Words are cheap.
It's about what you do or you don't do. And
(16:31):
so I appreciate the question, but people talk too much
in our business.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
You either do or you don't.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
So it feels like always on the defense man, not
not Hey, what a great season. You guys have a
depleted team, you got an old ass quarterback. You guys
won the AFC North and made it to the postseason.
Good season. What's next? It's always defensive, you know, And
(17:01):
I always feel like when you're on your way out,
I mean you could tell me c. I mean, you've
been a part of some teams where you know, like myself,
when you hear certain tones and certain ways of how
the interaction between a coach and the media, you start
to say, Okay, how much longer is it going to
be when it's confrontation And that wasn't confrontational.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
It's just negative. There's nothing positive about what they ask.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
And I know it's a loss, but you can get
that same type of questioning, line of questioning even in
a win.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Not in Jacksonville, right, Like Jacksonville, they would have been
hyping him up. Well there you go. How about that?
But think about it.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
I mean it's a funny little insertion, right, but think
about that, like they took the time to say that
lady said what she said to him, like you keep
your head up, child, you did a great job.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Like ain't nobody said that the night you know Mike Tomlin.
Ain't nobody encouraging Mike Tomlin. It's like, what's There's a
lot of truth to what you're saying. And I see
that too.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
I don't know what the future holds, because again, you
let go of Mike Tomlin, he immediately goes to the
top of the list along with John Harball of coaches
that everyone's looking for, and that becomes one of the
more coveted jobs for I don't know, John Harball or
whatever else. Right, Like, that's how that stuff works, and
they have to make a decision if they want to
(18:27):
just start new. They've got a number of aging players,
I mean TJ. Watson up there and Rogers is up there.
So they went in all in on this year. I
don't know if you say it's it's a success or not.
I mean, winning the division I think is tough in
the AFC North, so they were able to accomplish that.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
However, you know, does this get better in a year?
Speaker 5 (18:48):
So I'm going through the numbers and just going back
to the offense, sixty six percent of their passes.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Are within nine yards or of the you know, of
the line of scrimmage or behind the line of scrimmage.
Eighty eight percent are from the nineteen and in which
it's glaringly obvious like this is a team that's like
it's almost like a ball control offense. I just don't
think that wins anymore in the NFL. And I'm not
(19:16):
sure if that changes if Arthur Smith takes it. He's
been interviewing gre head coaching jobs, so maybe he goes
somewhere else. He kind of has some ties to Tennessee,
obviously given his family background, So I don't I don't
know if that's the case. I don't know if if
it's the exact same, but I do know they've got
to figure out a way of finding a guy that
(19:39):
can help lead them to.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
The playoffs and do something offensively. I don't know who
that's going to be. I don't know if it's Roger
or if they can can find another maybe veteran that's
you know, that's that's that's.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Looking for a new home. But man, it's it's a
tough offense to watch.
Speaker 5 (19:58):
All credit to the Houston text how good that defenses,
but man, there's still this has been a week to
week thing. I don't know if you guys feel the same,
but it feels like they're leaving a lot of potential
production and big players out there.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
In the field.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
It's the same Steelers that we've seen four years now.
Like it's that's why watching them down the stretch, it
was like, man, that's awesome. They're you know, going on
a run and they're going to make the playoffs and
maybe they'll make the postseason and win the division. But
it's going to be the same result as it always is.
They're going to get to the postseason and just not
have enough. And whether it's offensively or whatnot. Look, they
(20:33):
probably should have addressed the quarterback position in the draft
in Ben Roethlisberger's final years.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
They probably should have done what Green Bay did with
Aaron Rodgers. But didn't they try? Didn't they feel like
they were getting out with picket? They took?
Speaker 3 (20:48):
No picket was there after Roethlisberger left, So Mason moved
off Goring, Yeah, Mason, but he was like a third.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Round pick and Roethlisberger was pissed about it. I remember
we talked about it. Brady.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
He called into like some local Pittsburgh radio show on
a Saturday because he was pissed off. Well, I felt
like we had other needs and we're taking a quarterback
in the third round. It's like, which, all right, it
wasn't wrong. I mean, he wasn't fo Guys want a
super Bowl. Guy had a lot of success, there is
a Hall of Famer. He's not wrong.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
But you know, that's one of those moves to your point,
like you got to start thinking about if you're the franchise.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
I don't know that. I don't know if they ever
really gave it some serious thought, at least not in
the first round.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
And so they go and they draft pick it and
it just didn't work. It just didn't It was like
kind of a disaster and they ended up having to
go to Mason Rudolph again, and like it just they
haven't figured that part out, and until they do, it
just feels like this is where we're going to be
(21:48):
with this team. They're just going to be a one
and done and it's almost like they've got to rip
the band aid off. And whether that's Mike Tomlin, whether
that's a complete overhaul offensively, whatever it is.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
They've tried overhauling, they've gotten rid of often how many
offensive coordinators is this cue? I know, probably off the
top of you might it's at least two. Yeah, it's
at least to since Haley, Right, Like, let's go back
to Todd Haley. How many have have how many offense
coordinators have there been since? They say Todd Haley.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Wasn't Bruce Arians, Matt Canada, Canada, Todd Hale. He lingered
on way too long, way too long. They should have
known after a year or two he wasn't the guy.
Just again, it would be interesting to see.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
No, I don't, I don't.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
I'm just saying the common denominator here is the head coach,
and I'm a Mike Tomlin fan. I just feel like
sometimes so well, there's there's one or two things that
you can do, but one of the two is probably
the only most likely thing that can happen at this point.
Because you see that he can't do it. You either
got to totally release your offense. You have to release
(23:08):
that that influence that you have as the head coach
and allow for whoever it is that's going to run
the offense to run the offense free and clear of you,
free and clear of you, like literally free and clear
of your influence during the games, during the practices, during
the game planning, you gotta get a guy that's really good.
I say, get a young guy and let them run
(23:30):
the offense. Because anytime you get into these these these situations,
it's always going to be your personality that takes over.
It's always going to take over. There's I mean, if
you're looking at and listening to what you saying in
terms of charting where they're going with the ball, it
(23:51):
clearly says conservative football and don't make any mistakes, kick
the ball and play defense unless hope that that leads
to us winning. And it it works, it works enough,
it just doesn't work in the big game. It works enough.
(24:11):
It just doesn't work in the big moments. And that's
that's to me, that's the biggest denominator here. So and
then the number two would be you just got to
get a new you gotta get a new staff. Like overhauling,
trying to overhaul. It is clear that your personality and
your brand of football is your personality and your brand
(24:32):
of football, and it's just not at this point. That's
the way your relationship is built with the community and
with the with the media, and and how you feel
about yourself as it applies to your team, and how
you're going to run your team. It's so it's so
developed that it's not going to change. That's the relationship,
(24:56):
that's the belief that you've developed during your time as
the coach of this team, which means that you might
need a change of scenery. You know you.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
I'm looking at coach Coach Franklin.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
I'm like, you probably won't have that type of relationship
with Virginia Tech fans. They probably won't attack you as
as fiercely as as Penn State fans did. The media
might not come at you the same way that Penn
State media came at you. I feel the same way
about Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin needs to be in a
place where he's the type of guy that he hasn't
(25:29):
been appreciated for so long that his mentality has had
to adapt and to adjust to not being appreciated, but
like being basically under fire all the time. He's constantly
defending himself in what his job is that he does
as the coach of his team. Might just need to
be in a different place or just get some pizza hut.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
You always could always do this. Here's a game day tip.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
It before the QB shout the first Hut and if
you're hungry, the big New Yorkers got those giant foldable
slices and right now it's just ten bucks, the biggest
pizza for the biggest games, only at Pizza Hut. And

a segment where we said the word hut a whole
bunch of times. We're doing a contest where if you

It's in no book. It's reading Rainbow. A can do
any Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Come on, Oh, way's to grow? Is reading Rainbow? Yeah yeah, yeah,
come on, yes, it's.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
In a book reading. Some of y'all need to pick
up a book.
Speaker 9 (29:50):
And read reading Rainbow. Whoa, yeah, take look it's in
a book. Yeah, come on, Jonas, that didn't get you
(30:10):
pumped up. That was something I didn't know. I didn't
expect it.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
I knew I was gonna catch you off guard. But man,
I do love that song. Well I tell you, yeah,
that was your namesake, right, that is?
Speaker 4 (30:36):
It is my namesake?
Speaker 3 (30:38):
That was That's now how long does that last? I
mean I'm a running for a little bit, okay, I
mean I really liked the song I was waiting for
because every song need a change up.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
You know, I needed a change up and that gives me.
That gives me life. Every every song has been stripper
or now this one was educational. You know. Yeah, yeah,
I like that. There he goes, I like what you're doing.
There you go, very kid.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
I grew up everybody, I was named after LeVar Burton
if you weren't aware.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
And yeah, so I grew up watching reading Rainbow. But
what what made reading Rainbow?
Speaker 1 (31:17):
In which I think a lot of people from my
age range and Brackett grew up on reading Rainbow and
then encouraged you to read. In fact, he is still
a major major ambassador and and and supporter of reading
and being literate. So uh, yeah, I just took a
different I took a different level of liking to reading
(31:39):
Rainbow because well he's LeVar Burton and I was LeVar.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
I like it, so there you go. It's great.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
Yet I figured I'd just get my my My second
hour started with feeling good, you know, and reading Rainbow
theme song makes me happy?
Speaker 4 (31:55):
Well, I know it's gonna make us happy? What and
people listening happy?

can help you hire smarter and faster. So apparently there's
some teams out there that are looking to hire John
Harbaughs their head coach. And according to Connor Hughes of
s n Y, it's a two team race that many
people feel it is a two team race, that it's
going to be the Falcons and the Giants that's going
(32:44):
to come down to those two. Apparently maybe the Dolphins
are on the outs. I don't know, but the other teams.
According to Adam Schefter, John Harbo has been doing preliminary
and extensive phone calls with the Giants, Titans, Browns, Raiders
and Cardinals as well too. He already interviewed with the
Falcons yesterday. But it does appear like Atlanta and New
(33:05):
York are the most likely destinations for John Harbaugh if
he decides he wants to go in that direction with
either organization. So which would you take if you were
John Harbaugh and you were to take one of those two?
Because I'm taking Atlanta, and I know Pete Prisco loves
the Giants.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
I just I would rather go Atlanta. I'm going to Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
It's a more winnable division, yes, yep. And I just
think you're it's kind of a stacked roster too. Like
they have a really good team when healthy. I think
that team's not far off from like being able to
take off. The biggest question marks.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
Penix, right, but is he the guy or is he not?
And you're gonna find out in the next year, And
if he's not, you're not gonna pick up the option.
You can go back in the draft, find one in
free agency and move on from there, or just move
on with Kirk Cousins until you figure that out. He's out.
Never are they going to get rid of it?
Speaker 5 (34:02):
We never We never got into the details of that
whole conversation, but essentially, with the restructuring that they did,
they'll now have a decision to make before the beginning
of the new league year in March, and that decision
now has made it much easier for them.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
To move on from him.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
I would keep him. I would keep him new head coach.
I would keep Kirk Cousins just thinks on the head
coach to that point, you know, yeah, I would. I
would keep them because he I mean to me, I'm
going into it with open arms. I didn't draft or
bring in either one of these guys, and I don't
(34:45):
know that I can trust the health of Michael Pennocks.
And I don't know what Michael Pennicks can be as
a quarterback at this level. Yet he's shown glimpses and
signs that he can be good but elite. I haven't
seen that yet. Kirk Cousins hasn't shown that he's injured again,
Kirk and he's injured again. Kirk Cousins hasn't shown that
(35:05):
he can get to that next that upper upper echellance.
But Kirk Cousins is more than qualified and good enough
to be a bridge quarterback for me.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
So you're saying, as the next head coach, because obviously
that that hiring is going to happen before they have
to make a decision, you think that head coach or
the organization should be open or welcome him with open arms,
t have kirk Cousins be the guy.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Absolutely, dang, whoa what y'all doing? What happened that y'all
going to play open arms? You cute her up to
play open arms? Huh, we can't play some journey with
me saying.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
Well, you've hired me to do a job and I.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Didn't bring either one of these quarterbacks to your team,
the hell is this with open arms?
Speaker 4 (36:00):
That's one of the greatest songs heard. The song. This
is an incredible song, dude, it's a good song. It's
a great lyrical song. Due I heard boys have been
doing a remake of this, and I swear to God
in the concert and not afraid to admit it, I
started to tear up. I was like, this is incredible.
I grumbled boys to been. Once they started bringing on
journey songs, I was like, damn and there an exact
(36:22):
quote was, They're like, hey man, we appreciate good music.
Doesn't matter if it came from a bunch of white boys,
like we love good music, good music.
Speaker 10 (36:31):
Come on, yes, yes, come on, Honis, come on, Kirk Cousins,
could you see it? Give me one more year, Kirk Cousins.
Just in case, I got my arms open to you,
my guy, here we are. I'm the new coach. You
(36:51):
finished out the year. Let's go it's running back.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
Just in case.
Speaker 11 (36:59):
I mean, all right, So so let me give you
this scenario. It was so good, but it was cornyas ale.
It was both good and great, and.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
To your point, they restructured cousins contract to reduce his
cap hit, and he had a guarantee that was going
to kick in or excuse me, it kicks in for
a roster bonus. And I believe the his salary guarantee
kicks in at you know, the first day of the
(37:32):
new league gear.
Speaker 5 (37:33):
So what they did was they reduced the cap hit.
They reduced cousins base salary. Now that that really in
essence makes him more tradeable, right, but it makes to
write true, But I think they want.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
To move on to let Pennex be the guy. Honestly,
I think Cousin wants to move on because he proved
he can still play. Here's the kicker.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Cousins has a no trade clause, a full no trade clause,
which means if they if they wanted to trade him,
he has to give them permission to sit there and say, yeah,
I'm gonna go to that team.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
Where I'm not.
Speaker 5 (38:07):
So he's really in the driver's seat here because what's
gonna happen is he's thirty eight years old. If they
don't want to keep him on the roster, if the
new coach doesn't welcome him with open arms, they could
they could go to his agent and say, hey, you
find us a trade partner he's playing under this contract,
they might try to restructure what have you, or that
he just says, no, I don't want to go, they
(38:28):
release me, and he's gonna probably sign for a bigger
deal on the free agent market. I mean, if you
have teams bringing Philip Rivers he hadn't played for.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
Five years, that's crazy. And saying your Kirk Cousin is
going to cash in again. Who is in the Hall
of Fame of Business in the NFL for the way
he's been able to manage this whole entire thing. It's incredible.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
What quarterback on the open market will be better for
your open arms than a Kirk Cousin. Well, you already
have him on your already have him on your roster.
Like are you going to have to if you bring
in another guy, Because you're going to have to have
another guy. You cannot put all of your eggs in
(39:09):
the Michael Pinnock's basket.
Speaker 5 (39:11):
Here's a tough thing for Cousins is what happened to
him in Atlanta should honestly happen again wherever he goes.
He's thirty eight, correct, like, he's played well enough and
people tend to forget too like, look, he came off
an Achilles and you can speak.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
To that var like how hard that is.
Speaker 5 (39:29):
And he didn't look the same and quite frankly, he
doesn't have the same pop he used to have in
throwing the football, but he can clearly still get it done.
But he's got to realize, like any team that signs
him as a free agent is going to have a
similar plan as the Falcons had. They're gonna draft somebody
in the first round or early and they're gonna hope
that that guy, after.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Sitting behind Cousins for a year maybe two, ends up
get transition into the guy. But it's if it's a
first round pick, it's probably gonna be a year like
that first year. If you're not playing well, you're probably out.
He's probably in. So even though I'm sure he's looking for.
Speaker 5 (40:01):
More money, looking for another opportunity, and maybe even the
right opportunity, I just to come to your point, like
maybe a stand Atlanta, maybe you sell things play out
again with Pennix, because there's no guarantee if Pennix plays
doesn't get hurt or read you know correct.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
They also they don't have that first round pick that's
the Rams pick. Now, so there's not It's not like
they will. We'll just find somebody in the draft that's
that's not available. I was thinking this, I mean, if
Harbad did choose the Falcons, if it is down to
these two teams that Connor Hughes says it is Giants
are the Falcons, and he decides on Atlanta, And say
(40:38):
Kirk Cousins wants to go elsewhere, whether it's Minnesota or
somewhere else, because you know, he just wasn't pleased without
things when in Atlanta, you know, maybe a reunion of
sorts John Harbaugh, a former quarterback of his. You know,
maybe maybe Joe Flacco as a as a stop gap.
Speaker 6 (40:56):
Why.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
I mean, he's played well. Why Why there's familiarity.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
There's film, there's familiarity with Kirk Cousins, not for John Harball,
for his players.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
He's taking over a team that had success with Kirk
Cousins as the starter. Why not open up the competition,
Open up the competition, make it a real competition.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Cuz if I'm looking at it and I'm.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
Saying, Okay, who do I choose between Joe Flacco and
Kirk Cousins, I'm taking Kirk Cousins. He's younger, he's familiar
with the players. You don't have to disrupt anything. You
got good players and play Brady. Who you taking Flacco
or Cousins.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
Oh, that's a tough one. That's a tough yeah, And
I'm talking about it. To me.
Speaker 5 (41:45):
It's a tough one because I love Joe like I
I love him as a person. I love just the
way he doesn't care. He just steps in any situations like, yeah,
I'll do it. Yeah, I can fall out in that.
I don't know, man, I may take flacout that.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
I'd love that too.
Speaker 5 (42:05):
I'm telling you, here's the thing I'd say about Cousins,
and he was again, he was great on the stretch
with what he did.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
When I was I'll just pull back the curtain a
little bit.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
When I was talking to the Falcon status behind it,
one of the things they were saying was, I said,
you know, there was some apprehension and some concern about
him going in as a backup versus Cousins went as
a starter.
Speaker 4 (42:30):
I said, what's what's the rationale behind that?
Speaker 5 (42:32):
I said, Well, he's a very pragmatic guy, like kind
of kind of tightly wound a bit to the point
where if he's not getting that sort of preparation, he
needs to be the starter, Like you're not going to
see the best version of him. And that's what he
believes and that's what he feels. So even like that's
one of the reasons why when he transitioned from being
(42:52):
the guy in year one coming off the Achilles to
the backup, he was frustrated. He wasn't happy because he
knew if he got the chance to ever go back
in like he wasn't going to be the guy he's
hoping to be. And when you know earlier this season
he kind of went in off the bench, he was fine,
but it's like not the same type of Cousins that
we saw later in the season where Pennix was hurt.
Speaker 4 (43:14):
There's no chance of it coming back.
Speaker 5 (43:16):
It was just going to be Cousins, and he was
the He's the type of guy that needs that entire
week of practice, that entire week of preparation. He likes
to have everything very cleanly mapped out. So if they're
bringing this pressure, like, what's my answer, you know, am I?
Am I throwing hot into it? Am I throwing hot
away from it? Am I protecting up wire. We checking
to this like it's.
Speaker 4 (43:37):
It's very much. He's very very too, like to a
t on everything.
Speaker 5 (43:41):
How it should go and then trying to execute at
a high level, which he's done, and it's one of
the reasons why he's made three hundred million.
Speaker 4 (43:46):
Dollars in the NFL. Some guys aren't like that, Like,
like Flako is the type where he was like, no,
I'm good, let's just put me in. That's right, what
comp said to you, Okay, I'll make a play.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
It puts a cigarette out on the bottom of his
cleat and walks in and throws her three hundred.
Speaker 4 (44:00):
Here and and there's and look.
Speaker 5 (44:01):
And I'm not making a case that like both have
been successful clearly, but I'm just saying, like Flaker is
just kind of my guy, Like I just I just
there's something that you sit down and talk to him,
he's like, yeah, I love Flacco. I want to be
honest team I want to don't want him to be
on my team. Like that's how you kind of feel
just being around them. Also cousins and by the way,
(44:23):
he's got a gaggle of kids that that also it
would be would be fun.
Speaker 4 (44:28):
You have to be like all your kids hanging out
playing and he'd be out there just checking it around.
Speaker 1 (44:32):
Come on, man, listen, I think you guys make compelling points.
It's it makes a lot of sense. But if I'm
Kirk Cousins, you gotta adapt and you have to evolve.
You didn't come into this league as a starter, so damn,
you're pragmatic, praga mastication whatever, practice pragmatic, you're pragmatics.
Speaker 8 (44:55):
That was.
Speaker 4 (44:58):
Drastically different. Yeah, I know.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
Anyway, I'm just I'm trying to be funny people, So anyway,
forget that, right I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (45:11):
I'm saying you didn't start. When you came here.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
You had to sit behind RG three, and your opportunity
came and you made the best of it, all right.
You got the opportunity to get paid. They said you didn't.
They didn't want to pay you. You go to Minnesota,
you did well. You became the backup again. It became
a thing for you to be the backup again.
Speaker 4 (45:34):
He's been more.
Speaker 1 (45:35):
He's been a backup more and more situations for the
teams he's gone to. Then he's been a starter. So
adapt and adjust. I'm sorry, I don't think you're going
to go out on the open market and get a
better guy to come in than what you already have
in house with Kirk Cousins. And if you're restructuring him,
(45:57):
he's restructured. So if you're going to trade him, who
are you trading him for? And are you getting Why
are you looking at me like that? You're trying to
think it through. You've already you've already made your decision
that they need to move off from Kirk.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
Why do you hate Kirk Cousins so much? I don't
hate Kirk Cousins. Tell me why Why do y'all hate
Kirk Cousins? Tell me why you're hating on them? He
doesn't like that you're doesn't like that.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
He's like, you should see the look just because I
think Kirk Cousins felt like he was washed.
Speaker 4 (46:25):
No, I don't think he was washed.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
No.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
I think he's the best quarterback on that team. I
thought he was better than Michael Pennock's. But I think
Kirk Cousins probably felt like he was sold to Bill
of Goods and what and they then that maybe never
so what maybe never saw right hold on, I was
sold to Bill of Goods about working with y'all so what.
Speaker 4 (46:46):
They were white? So what I told you? My dad's
name is Tyrone, and.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
I didn't know I was coming in a situation they
said he his name was his name Tyrone, his brother.
Speaker 4 (47:00):
His name is this crazy? Okay, we play. We like
some game shows.
Speaker 5 (47:06):
I do want to advise people. Cousins did lead the
league in interceptions last year, so there is that. Can
we get some game show music because I want to compare.
Speaker 4 (47:14):
Uh, we had ten.
Speaker 5 (47:16):
Games played for Cousins last year this past season, eight starts.
Flacco had nine games played.
Speaker 4 (47:23):
Six starts.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
So I'm going to ask you just some stat comparisons,
because I do think it's kind of interesting to go down.
Speaker 4 (47:30):
This TACKO has better stats. But no, I know you that.
I didn't say that, Bro, you're predictable. Come on, I
didn't say I see where this is going. I didn't
say that. Okay, who has the better completion percentage? Levarn,
Kirk Cousins or Joe Fla. I'm going with Kirk Cousins
because you came to me for the first one.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
So Jonas, what do you think I'm gonna go Joe Flacco?
You're both wrong, they're tied, or you're both right. However
you want to look at Okay, you're both right.
Speaker 4 (47:57):
They're tied with exactly a sixty one point seven completion
in Okay, all right, there you go. See, Now we're
having fun.
Speaker 5 (48:05):
Which which quarterback threw more yards per game? And we
have to do that because obviously played uneven number of games.
Flacco or Cousins.
Speaker 4 (48:15):
Off, We're going with Flacco. Hair that proves your point,
gut Flacco, Diddy threw for like a little more than
a first down more per game?
Speaker 6 (48:22):
All right?
Speaker 4 (48:23):
Which quarterback threw for more touchdown passes? Cousins are Flacco.
Speaker 3 (48:27):
I'm going with Kirk Cousins on that one, Okay, Jonas,
I'm gonna say Joe Flacco.
Speaker 4 (48:34):
He was on a heat.
Speaker 3 (48:35):
Joe Flacco through thirteen it's only to only four interceptions,
and Cousins through ten to five interceptions.
Speaker 4 (48:42):
Okay, that's not bad. No, it's not bad. It's not bad.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
Got who had the better record as a starting quarterback?
Even though it's not a step, but people like to
do this.
Speaker 4 (48:52):
I'll say Cousins because Flacco's defense was brutal.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
Oh okay, all right, all right? Was okay, So let's
go with Flacco because his defense was brutal.
Speaker 4 (49:05):
Uh no, no, no, no, here's saying who had more wins. Yeah,
let's go with Flacco. Oh no, Cousins had more wins there,
five and three? There it starts because of Flacco's defense,
of course, Yeah, all right, it couldn't be who had
more fourth quarter comebacks Flacco or Cousins.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
Oh, it's one hundred percent flac a because well, his
defense isn't any good, so he's always having to come back.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Jonas, I'm gonna say Cousins because I think his defense,
Flacco's defense failed him and so that didn't count as
comeback wins.
Speaker 4 (49:35):
I'm gonna say Kris Cousins. That's good reason. They actually
both had one very sound reasoning though, Jonas, I saw
what you did there. Who had more game winning drives?
Flacco or Cousins.
Speaker 1 (49:48):
Again, I'm gonna stay with my reasoning because his defenses
were so bad. Flacco had the engineer game winning drive.
So I'm going with Flacco. With at least one, I'll
say Kirk Cousins. It was Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 4 (50:05):
Kirk Cousins to Flacco had knocks. There you go. I
love how we're so we're so pot committed.
Speaker 3 (50:14):
On which aging white cornerback we want to play for
the right fun you talk about all this is fun
at sports talk radio.
Speaker 4 (50:21):
Gold Well, alright, all right, all right? Who had more
rushing touchdowns? Kirk Cousins or Joe Flacco? Oh my god,
I don't think this one even matters. They're zero gave
(50:41):
it wasn't that QB sneak. I don't think I say
they're tied on this one. They both they are tied.
They each have one. No kidding, all right, Okay, I
would have been saying, thought it was not many yards there?
Last one?
Speaker 5 (50:56):
Who rushed for more first downs? Joe Flacco Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
I'm gonna say Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 3 (51:02):
I'm gonna say Flacco because I remember him getting a
first down with his legs against was it?
Speaker 4 (51:07):
What else would he get it with?
Speaker 3 (51:10):
Well, he's six six, he could just lay downlao.
Speaker 4 (51:13):
Flacco had seven? Oh wow, he's only had four this season.
So I think he called like he called his own
number on a run play like games. Yeah really? Yeah, alright,
there you go. So it's a little more even than
you think.
Speaker 5 (51:29):
Okay, and that's why you know, and there's similar in age,
so it is interesting, Like this guy.
Speaker 4 (51:35):
Goes older about how many three years? Only a year?
Cousins thirty seven, Flaco's forty, he's thirty eight, thirty eight
this year, and Flacco is well. Actually, Flacco's birthdays coming up.
Uh yeah, Friday will be what forty one? Forty one?
Speaker 3 (51:50):
Okay, old ass, Hey, Flacco's got the same birthday as
my dog who's dead.
Speaker 4 (51:57):
So much of that I need to put Flacco down sixteen?
Can you?
Speaker 2 (52:02):
Man?
Speaker 4 (52:03):
He does you get upset with us when we bring
it up? Not at all yet.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
Oh he'll get sensitive over bringing up about what my dog.
Family members going down, Man, I've seen it happen.
Speaker 3 (52:15):
Well, I don't know family members going down and dogs
kind of a difference.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
So you don't consider your dog a family member riverside? Hey, man,
you got issues.
Speaker 4 (52:25):
Man, you're touched.
Speaker 1 (52:27):
That's why your dog is underground because you don't view
them in the same simular manner.
Speaker 4 (52:32):
Underground.
Speaker 1 (52:32):
You think I was paying for a bar Mister stick
is outside right now? You thought I was paying for
a burial underground?
Speaker 6 (52:38):
My ass?
Speaker 4 (52:41):
Well, I cream mad it dresser. But I did have
a corner like a dog corner. Come get them?
Speaker 3 (52:46):
Yeah, I did put him on a gurney and everything
like took him out. Yeah you know what I did,
Wait until the trash man wasn't looking through him in
that front loader.
Speaker 4 (52:55):
That's jacked up. Oh that's not that's so jacked up.
Stilln't say stuff like shout out, why do you do this?
Pit will be calling shortly.
Speaker 5 (53:06):

Pizza Hut has another message for fans. Don't forget to
order Pizza Hut before the first what.

Speaker 4 (54:20):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (54:21):
No type of base, no volume. That's but that's how
Jonas does it. But you know how Pizza Hut does it.
They do a big New Yorker style. That's right, it's
their biggest pizza for the biggest games.
Speaker 4 (54:32):
It's massive slices.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
So big, make all y'all fall fold it because it's
too big, you know what I'm talking about. Wow, true
New York slices, and right now it's yours for just
ten buckeroos. You don't even have to pull out a
twenty you know what I mean. And you could give
a good tip. That's how cheap this is. So before
(54:57):
the first Hut order the big pizza for the biggest games,
Grab a big New Yorker and your set for the
whole entire game and listen. I don't know what your
game day Pizza Hut order is, but they do have
really really good pizzas. But if you feel like folding,
then I think you need to go with the Big
New Yorker. All right, listen any big games this weekend.
(55:20):
Don't forget to pizza before the hut, meaning order it now,
y'all and go after that Big New Yorker. Get it early,
don't wait, it's just ten bucks.

(56:39):
at Dean Blandino Dean, Good Morning, So mony.
Speaker 4 (56:44):
Guys, what's going on? Dean?
Speaker 6 (56:45):
What's up? What's up?
Speaker 4 (56:47):
Good man?
Speaker 1 (56:48):
Did you ever find it strange that like we bring
you into to the Godfather music, right, and the Godfather
music is connected to well a crime family movie, you know,
but it's celebrated like it's like it's cool.
Speaker 4 (57:04):
But can you imagine if.
Speaker 1 (57:06):
Like you like say, I was the guest and you
were a host on the show and they brought me
into like say, uh, don't be a menace by like
you know, and it was you were playing like, you know,
that song from Minace to Society. Do you think people
would be offended or do you think that that's like
a compliment, you know what I mean? Like I just
want to make sure we take this as you're you're
(57:27):
you feel complimented that we're bringing you into the Godfather theme.
Speaker 6 (57:30):
Right, that's why I love you. You know, you go,
you go, you dig a little deeper. Okay, we should
hear we talk about football and it's associating and you know,
Brady says something and he thinks it's funny, it's not,
you know, the whole Wow. That's like we need to
(57:52):
do our own show and talk about these issues, you know,
like talk about why it's why you can come in
and bring in Italian American in on the Godfather and
but but maybe in another situation that might not be okay, correct,
These are things that need to be discussed. I mean, yeah,
is it a compliment to be associated with a ruthless
(58:14):
killer that that you know, killed all the heads of
the five family, killed his own brother.
Speaker 4 (58:19):
Killed his own brother, killed his own brother, by.
Speaker 6 (58:22):
The way, you know what that that's fine, it's.
Speaker 4 (58:24):
All good, Okay.
Speaker 1 (58:25):
I was just making sure that you were okay with it,
because yeah, I had nothing to do with the intro music,
by the way, and you know no, but seriously, I
I thought that was kind of funny.
Speaker 12 (58:36):
I like, dang, like I kind of stopped to think
about it, like it's like you're you know, it's like,
all right, if we touched on you being you know,
an American and you're Italian, it's like, okay, that doesn't
mean we got to play you know that music.
Speaker 4 (58:47):
But I mean I feel the same exact way. I mean,
I'm Italian. Yeah yeah, but you're part of the show,
so it's a little different. You know. I'm just saying,
I love how I get friendly fire. There, you did
get friendly fire.
Speaker 6 (58:58):
It was always friendly though. It's always friendly.
Speaker 4 (59:02):
That's right, That's right, always can I can?
Speaker 1 (59:05):
I I was going no, I was just going to say,
I mean, I don't know if I mean, at some
point do we start calling referees their own race of people,
and if so, do they deserve to be discriminated against.
Speaker 4 (59:18):
Like, like you know, do they deserve scrutiny.
Speaker 6 (59:28):
There's a rep slur that we could come up with.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
I mean, it's you know what, everyone would use it everyone.
I tell you that everyone would use it if it exists.
Speaker 6 (59:40):
Look at that stripe. I mean.
Speaker 8 (59:48):
It is.
Speaker 6 (59:51):
Referees are the most probably it doesn't matter what race
you are within that community. Everybody hates you.
Speaker 4 (59:57):
Everybody hates you.
Speaker 1 (59:58):
Everything great one and some it is kind of warranted.
I mean, there were a lot of miss calls. Man,
there were a lot of big, big miss calls.
Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
Can I start off with one that this goes to
a game that was not in the NFL. It was
a semi final game between Miami and ol Miss. Take
take me through the officials during a hail Mary player
a final player game, because I feel like, if it's
not that situation, they're most likely calling passinger defensive pass
(01:00:30):
interference on the Miami defender, and even though there's both
going both ways, Like, how do you see that whole situation?
Speaker 6 (01:00:37):
Yeah, look, there's no question and it wasn't. It wasn't
like a classic Hail Mary with with but it had
it had some Hail Mary elements to it. It wasn't
you know, it wasn't just one on one out of space.
I think if that's just a play in the second
quarter where it's just a receiver in the dB out
in space and nobody else, that probably is a flag.
(01:00:57):
I was, okay, Look, initially they were both grabbing each other,
they were both looking for the ball. I think at
the end the defender did grab them and kind of
yank them down. So certainly had the flag been thrown.
You absolutely could not dispute that. But it is in
that situation, and it's not like the officials are saying, Okay,
(01:01:18):
I'm not going to I'm not going to call anything,
but the bar does it's it's it's raised in a
situation like that, when when it is more of a
hail Mary, it's more of a free free for all.
Look either way, whether if that was called or not,
it's going to be controversial. I think people got to
remember though, it's not the NFL rule where a miss
(01:01:39):
wasn't getting the ball at the one yard line right
that it would have been fifteen yards. I think they
would have had another snap from the twenty. Of course
it gives them another opportunity. But you know, I was
okay with with no call there because it is it
is a higher bar in a situation like that.
Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
Dean on the subject of past interference and this is
just like you know, there's numbers that would disprove this,
but I feel like they've done a better job recently
with that to where I don't see a lot of
teams getting bailed out by a pass interference call, like
for example, the play to Austin last night.
Speaker 4 (01:02:18):
In Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
You know, there was some question Aaron Rodgers was looking
around for a penalty like he wanted something there, and
I thought they broke it down and said, look it wasn't.
Yeah there was contact, but similar to that game, the
Miami Ole Miss game, there was contact on both sides.
Have you seen the same thing to where that one
which is the most punitive of them all, they've done
a better job not just throwing the flag maybe in
(01:02:42):
previous years like they would and bailing teams out offensively.
Speaker 8 (01:02:46):
I do.
Speaker 6 (01:02:46):
I do think they're doing a better job with that.
We always taught that that kind of when both players
are playing the ball, they're going to have the receivers
initiate as much contact as the defenders in a lot
of situations. And so if they're both playing the ball,
they both have hands hands on each other, kind of
you know that hand fighting that that's nothing, you know,
until somebody does something, whether the receiver pushes off or
(01:03:08):
the defender grabs and really restricts the receivers. So I
think they're doing a good job with that. Those are big,
you know, NFL like it's a spot fiul. Those are big,
big penalties you want it. You want it to be
there when you're going to make that call. We have
seen in the past a lot of times on underthrown
balls where the receiver, you know, the dB is in
good position and then the receiver stops and the DV
(01:03:29):
runs into them. So it's just I think, and again
when in the playoffs, everything is ratcheted up every I
think the officials, you have your best officials out there,
they're the highest rated officials. I think they do a good.
Speaker 4 (01:03:40):
Job with that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:41):
Why are they turning their eyes to blindness on holds.
I just feel like I'm seeing more blatant holds on
pass rushes and runs on the outsides, you know, more
than anything. I like listen on the inside. I've always
we've all always known that holding is crazy on the
(01:04:03):
interior line that I get it, Uh, but this hole
not seeing holds like wrapping arms around, hugging, you know,
even I've even saw pools.
Speaker 4 (01:04:16):
I've even saw pools where.
Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
They were, you know, kind of impeded from being able
to get to the ball carrier.
Speaker 4 (01:04:24):
And it's not being.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
Called dean like is that just is that call becoming
a little bit more uh maybe relaxed, so to speak.
Speaker 4 (01:04:35):
For the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 6 (01:04:38):
Yeah, I know, I agree, I've seen more. I thought
the Niners. I thought Trent got away with a hole.
I mean on that pass right on the touchdown. Yes, yes,
you know. And look, there's there's a lot of factors
to holding. It's not like you said, on the inside
it's harder, it's you know, a lot of that is
just survival. The fit is and sometimes you have a
(01:05:00):
double team on the INDI you're not going to call
holding on double teams things like that, but on the outside,
certainly point of attack, if it's a run, you gotta see,
you got to see the grab. There has to be restriction,
it has to have an impact. So there's a lot
the officials have to process. But they're not calling it
as much as it's happening. And I don't know if
that I don't think that's a directive specific to holding.
(01:05:22):
I do think things in the playoffs tend to that
that let them play. Mentality kind of creeps in a
little bit and and maybe we're you know, like you said,
maybe they're a little lax. But that's one you got
to call if it's if all the elements are there,
because those those are big plays. I mean that and
that doesn't take you know, that that quick grab. That's
(01:05:43):
the difference between you know, a sack or or a touchdown.
I mean that's huge and and I think that's something
that they have to continue to look at.
Speaker 4 (01:05:52):
All. Right, Let's go to the Eagles Niners game.
Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
In the second quarter, Dallas Goddardy caught a pass from
Hurtz up here to score. That was I believe the
initial ruling on the field being a TV although Prome
review it was overturned because was sure, but then was
someone illegally pushing him? I thought, like there is there
a differentiation for a Ford progress rule, uh where where
someone's you know, pushing or assisting the runner in like
(01:06:16):
specific scenarios.
Speaker 6 (01:06:19):
Yeah, I mean we just we talked about this. They
don't call They're not until they put a new rule
in there. They're not going to call that pushing the runner.
Pushing you know, even pulling the pulling the runner is
still illegal in the book, but but they never call that.
You know, you saw the Josh Allen that was the
greatest push push in the history of the game. I
(01:06:39):
mean he went, he went like ten yards.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
So you know, by the way I thought about you
when I saw that players, I.
Speaker 6 (01:06:47):
Thought that was crazy. But yeah about it. I'm glad
that when the tush push happens, you think of me that.
Speaker 4 (01:06:58):
Yeah, I mean I thought you'd add I got you, man.
Speaker 6 (01:07:03):
But yeah, I don't like I said, that's that's gonna
be an off season discussion. You know, look, the Eagles
are out, so but that part of it is done.
So this isn't going to be an Eagles issue. They
haven't been as good at it this year anyway, but
you know, these teams still run it, and I think
that's something that look at the off seasons.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
Dean Blandino joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Get
him on x at Dean Blandino And on the subject
of Josh Allen, we were talking yesterday about Justin Herbert
because Justin Herbert and Josh Allen remind me of each
other because it seems like those guys take a beating
more so than any other quarterback. And I wonder we
used to hear back in the day that you know,
(01:07:43):
Shack was officiated differently because he was so big. There
was almost like they didn't know they weren't calling fouls.
It should have been fouls that would have impacted other people.
Do you do you think the NFL officiates maybe Josh
Allen or Justin Herbert differently, just be because of their
ability to take a big shot unlike some other quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (01:08:05):
Yeah, I don't. I don't think they officiate them differently,
you know, by design. I do think that when you
have a when when you hit a guy that Josh
Allen size versus hitting a guy that's spice young size,
it's going to look and feel different. So there's certainly
that part of it. You know, I haven't looked at
the numbers in terms of how many calls they've gotten
(01:08:26):
compared to other quarterbacks. And the other thing is when
you have a quarterback that's more mobile that you know,
Josh runs, he does it better than most. You know,
you lose protections when you when you leave the pocket
on the run, you lose protections when you tuck the
ball and just become a runner. You don't get any
special protection. So I think that's part of it as well.
(01:08:46):
But yeah, you know, it was like the Ben Roethlisberger
and Cam Newton and these guys that are just bigger
guys that the impact doesn't look as doesn't look as bad,
but I think the officials have to kind of see
that and just go through Okay, was it late, was
it to the head, was it to the knee, and
just officiated the same way regardless of the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
Dean. I was listening to some of the commentary from
from Tom Brady during the gay I was telling the
guys earlier in the week that it was kind of
funny because listening to him break it down, it was
almost like an indictment and then criminating to Jalen Hurts
(01:09:28):
to some of the things that he does. I don't
know if you were getting an opportunity to hear some
of the things like the explanation that he was giving,
But did you guys have like what was the what
was the feedback after he finished those like those little
rants on you know, like you know how to handle it,
because you know, if you're paying attention, it definitely was like, dang, well,
(01:09:50):
Jalen Hurts ain't doing that.
Speaker 4 (01:09:52):
Like what Tom Brady said, That's not what Jalen Hurts
is doing.
Speaker 6 (01:09:57):
He you know, he likes Sjalen Hurts. He likes Jalen
Hurts as a quarterback. He thinks he's you know, there's
trust me. There's guys he don't like, but he liked
and I'm not naming names, but he he. I think
where Tom was getting frustrated and just watching the game
wasn't so much with Jalen. It was more with what
the Eagles were doing in terms of he wanted them
(01:10:19):
to play fast, play with tempo, you know, stop trying
to get the perfect play every time. Lean on that.
You know the Niners have banged up, lean on that
that defense kind of just keep it moving and and
they kind of went away from that in the second half.
And we've seen that from the Eagles where they look great.
And then you know the game we had with with
Buffalo that Jalen didn't complete a pass in the second half,
(01:10:43):
I mean the second half on on on Sunday. They
you know, they they couldn't get anything going. So I
think that's where he was getting frustrated. And you know,
in terms of it, he's he knows the game so
well and he just you know, especially from an offensive standpoint,
what what what he would do. So he's and I
kind of like that, you know, he's more comfortable now
just kind of being not disrespectfully critical, but he's being
(01:11:07):
more critical, which is part of the analyst's job.
Speaker 4 (01:11:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Dean.
Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
We won't talk to you obviously before the National championship
game in college football? What do you think of between
Indiana and Miami. Indiana is a very well coached team,
well prepared. They don't seem to get many penalties on
the flip side. Miami seems to rack up a tunnel
penalties in that regard. But do you have like a
slant on the game?
Speaker 6 (01:11:30):
I think, Look, I think both teams are similar in
terms of how physical they are on both sides of
the ball. I think it could be like a you know,
try to run the ball, it's it's It could be
one of those just really knock rock them soccerm type game.
I know, like you said, Indiana's doesn't. I think Miami
tends to you kind of get the feeling they'll make
(01:11:51):
a mistake or two here or there, and if Indiana
can capitalize on that, I think it's going to be
a good game. You look at you look at Miami's
run and you know they've certainly you can't dispute what
they've done. But Indiana just looks dominant right now. It's
it's crazy. How you know what they've done to I
didn't know. I don't think anybody thought they beat Alabama
(01:12:12):
in Oregon the way they did. So I'm just looking
forward to a good game and we'll.
Speaker 4 (01:12:17):
Say, do you watch it from your standpoint? And it
was like the same amazement that we do.
Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
Just how bad Indiana's been and this sort of turn
around the last two years, but even.
Speaker 6 (01:12:25):
This year, it's crazy. It's crazy. And look, I think
the landscape, I think with where we are now with
nil and paying players, I think that it's it's more understandable.
I don't think this turnaround could have happened like this
ten years ago. But I mean, he is Signetti's incredible
and you know, and I think what he did is
(01:12:46):
he takes a lot of the pressure off the players
because he's such a big personality and he knows what
he's doing, and he, like he said, he wins. Google him.
He's done an incredible job. But I don't think anybody
you know it football, you cover it more and more
than anyone. Can you see this coming? I don't see
anybody could have seen this coming in two years.
Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
No, not at all. Dean. We appreciate it. By the way,
are we going to see you at Super Bowl? You're
going to be out there for that week?
Speaker 6 (01:13:13):
Or I don't. I haven't. I haven't made any plans yet.
I don't have any any function work wise because Fox
doesn't have the game, so you know, and now reading
about that that that facility near the stadium, I don't
know if I want to go up there.
Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:13:32):
Man so well, I mean, if I do, I'll let
you know.
Speaker 4 (01:13:36):
Don't read into too many conspiracy theories because August twelfth
