Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowver
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
It's a Herd on Fox Sports Radio. LeVar Arrington Jonas
Knox in for Colin. We are going to, uh maybe
get into a little bit here about something that went
way better than anybody expected in the world of sports
over the weekend. But as we mentioned, it is the
legal tampering period. The window is opened in the NFL,

(00:48):
and it's time for some more breaking news from Tuhey.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Breaking news from Fox Sports.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Hire again.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
This is a guys. Kenneth Walker is joining the Kansas
City Chiefs. All right, big one, big one. This kind
of seemed inevitable after the Trump McDuffie trade, right, like
they were gonna going after a big fish.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
When's the last time they had a dependable running back
that you could look at and go that's the guy.
Man I mean Priest Holmes. Dang, yeah, Larry Johnson came
after Priest Home. What I mean, we all, well, hold on,
come on, Larry Johnson was a beast. Hold on. Now
they had.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
What uh Charles, I like Pacheco. Yeah, but just get hurt.
It gets hurt.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
And look, you had Clyde Edwards.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
Who was Hunt. There was a two two hitted monster.
Hunt knew who was that man? There there was two backs.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
I don't know. They've had some pretty good backs though,
I just I look at but they haven't had a
guy that you look at and all right, that's the
beltap back, right, like that's the lead. And and you
look at what Kenneth Walker did late in the season,
Zach Charboney goes down and he was massive for them,

(02:15):
And I was surprised they didn't they didn't put the
franchise tag on him. I was surprised they let him walk.
But I think that's also an indication that they feel like, look,
it's a tough, tough call, tough decision. Appreciate everything he did.
You know, he's got to walk at the height of
his career, just won Super Bowl MVP. But we're just
gonna go take our chances and try and get cheaper

(02:36):
at the running back positions. Trying to get cheaper. We'll
go get cheap like that's that's the way it looks like.
And we've talked about this before. To think where the
running back position was years ago, when it next to
quarterback was the face of the league, and to where
it is now, to where a guy just won Super
Bowl MVP and they're like see you, buddy, like we'll

(03:00):
see you. Thank you, We're not even giving you, give
you the tag, go have fun. Legal tampering window opens.
And now Patrick Mahomes has got some help in the backfield,
it's going to be Kenneth Walker.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
Listen, it is some help. It certainly does help. Kenneth
Walker is a fine football player and showed how fond
of a player he was by being the best player
in this year's Super Bowl. That was going to be
a defensive heavy game. You were going to need your

(03:34):
running game to be a part of it, and Seattle's
run game delivered and Kenneth Walker delivered. I guess I
would ask the question. I guess if it improves your team,
then there's nothing wrong with it. But I don't I
don't feel as though bringing Kenneth Walker in alleviates the

(03:59):
pressure that you have mounting in terms of letting McDuffie
go on the defense side of the ball. I'm curious
to see what they do to shore up their defense
to make sure that their defense is what it needs
to be moving forward, and curious as to what do

(04:22):
you do at the quarterback's position. Obviously you're going to
try to figure out how to run the ball or
get better at running the ball if you're cac because
you don't know what the future holds for Patrick Mahomes
right now and upcoming upcoming weeks and months and days
of his career. So until you can get him back healthy,

(04:46):
fully in the mix and ready to go and confident
in that leg and what he does, I would assume
that you have to one have a quarterback that can
stand in there, and I hope you be competitive until
he gets back. But two, you want to have a
running game that alleviates the stress and the pressure on

(05:07):
on the guy that you're putting in there, and to
that point, to do it for Patrick Mahomes when he
gets back as well.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
The Chiefs haven't had a thousand year old rusher since
twenty seven. I just looked it up.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
I was like, man, y'all, all right, it's just not
been Kareem Hunt is probably the closest they got to
like a guy that was kind of pushing to be
the bail coal back for them.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
And you know, clearly they've had plenty of success, so
it's not like, well, that's going to really hold him back.
You know, the super Bowls, the dynasty, all that stuff.
But I do think this is also if you've got
a quarterback like Mahomes who's coming back from the injury
and they're optimistic that he's going to be there and
ready to go, you know, to start the year and all,
that's fine, but worst case scenario, he's not there. They

(05:51):
got to start off the season putting him on the
pup list. Okay, or he comes back he is ready
for the start of the season, but it takes him
some time to get used to the new normal, which
is a surgically repaired leg. You're gonna need some help
and if you've got a back there that you can
depend on. I look, I thought they would have been

(06:12):
one of the teams that would have taken a shot
at Jeremiah Love in the draft with a top ten
pick and go running back in the draft. But the
fact that they've made this move and we've seen Andy
Reid offenses in Philly when he's got a back that
can catch the ball out of the backfield, that's a
lough screen, oh big time. And so I look at

(06:33):
that and I go, that's where a guy like Kenneth
Walker can step in and can be of help at
a position of need that they've needed for quite a while.
And then they look at it and they go on defense.
It's not ideal that we lost Trent McDuffie, but you know,
we've got to Maybe they did the same thing with
Leagerius Snead a couple of years ago, and I think

(06:56):
that's probably where they try and get better in the draft,
or who knows, maybe you know, we'll get a Twoy
tampering update at some point on the show, and the
Chiefs are going to attack the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
You know, I think we built Patrick Mahomes up to
be this larger than life figure because he's accomplished so
much that would be deserving of the things that are
allotted his way. The reverence towards him, the respect factor,
he's built up a lot of great will, not just
good will, but great will. And so we talk about

(07:27):
Patrick Mahomes as if he's this invincible figure. I think
the first thing you got to take a look at
is one, he did go down to a serious leg injury.
That's one for two. This offense hasn't been what it's
needed to be. And need I say, I mean, I
mean he's thrown for some good yards during the course
of the season, having a five thousand yard season not

(07:51):
too long ago, what twenty twenty two, But when Eric
b Enemy left and I'm not making this about enemy,
but I'm saying, in that moment in time, when airb
Enemy left the team, that offense has seemed to not
be the same since that departure took place, whatever took
whatever happened in that moment of time, the offense hasn't

(08:15):
seemed to get back on track. I mean, and obviously
you had the departure of you had the departure of
the Cheetah and Tyreek Hill.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
I know what you're doing. I just again, I don't.
I don't.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
And it's interesting. We're gonna bring I believe we're gonna
bring TJ on today I asked the Fellaws on I
asked them on on up on game on Saturdays by
the way nine am West West Coast Town. I asked
the Fellas on Saturday because I didn't want to feel
like I'm going crazy here, because at times last week
I did is this is this the end of the road? Like,

(08:53):
how should we be looking at this Kansas City Chiefs
team right now? Is the window closing?

Speaker 6 (08:59):
Well?

Speaker 3 (09:00):
You were you were I think you were trying to say,
and I don't want to put words in your mouth
because I would never want to do that, but I
think you were trying to say that the Chiefs should
fire Andy Reid and make Eric be enemy the head coach.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
That's exactly what I'm not saying. Let's just run that.
That's exactly we certainly would get. We would go viral, man,
let's fire that off. I'm not trying to I'm not
trying to go do shock shock value to get to
us and listen, just see how long we can keep
a straight face for. But I am saying that sometimes

(09:32):
we may lose track of the fact that Patrick Mahomes
is a person. Yeah, he's not an alien, He's not
this mythical figure.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
It's also if we're going to be a honest man,
like you are correct, the offense has not looked like
this high powered you know Houston Euler's running shoot from
for years where you could bring in Cody Carlson and
he throw for five thousand yards like you're not that,
we're not talking about that. The defense has been the

(10:03):
more consistent side of the ball.

Speaker 5 (10:05):
And that's the thing, Like the conversations have always been about, well,
as long as you got Patrick Mahomes, well, as long
as you got Patrick Mahomes, and the biggest moments of
late of recent like, oh well they made it to
the super Bowl, their defenses of through the years. The
defense through the years has come up so big in

(10:27):
the most pivotal moments, in the most critical moments of
their seasons. It has been the defense that has delivered.
And so that's why I led off with back to
the original point. Bringing in Kenneth Walker is a great
move for them because I believe he has a hard nosed,
lunch pal type of guy. He's a normal type of guy.

(10:49):
No diva connected to him in any type of way.
He's a workhorse. That's great for what they're trying to do.
If they're going to try to bang the ball, run
the ball, established a run and be able to have
that set up to pass with whatever their quarterback situation
is going to be. That's that's that's a good move

(11:10):
for them. But again we mentioned Chris Jones getting aged,
he's aging. Carloftis dope, dope player makes plays. Can this
defense return to form? And actually, I don't even want
to say bail out. They have won games for them,

(11:33):
they have won championships for this team. Is this defense
this year good enough to lead the way? And that's
going to be the biggest question that has to be answered.
If the offense comes back and they're able to be good,
I would be surprised, I really would. It's going to
be on the defense to make sure that they carry

(11:53):
this team through the course of this upcoming season, and
is this a defense that can do it. I'm a
big believer in Spags. Spagnola is a great, great coach
in terms of being able to game plan and find
the weaknesses in an offense. Overload the line, bring blitzes
from different positions in different places on the field where

(12:15):
you thought they were in coverage, but they end up
coming in on a blitz, he overloads. He does a
really really great job, but can he bring that to
the table this year and probably, in my estimation, one
of the most pivotal years for this Kansas City franchise.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
You're just looking for improvements from year and year out.
I think that's every team's goal, or at least publicly
that's what they say their goal is. And so if
you're the Chiefs and you're coming off a six win
season last year, you just need to find five wins
on the schedule because you already have two with the Raiders.
So if you just find five other a on the schedule,

(12:54):
they watch him out. Everything's gonna be all right because
you do have that bye week that was, you know,
right across the street from Mandalay Bay. That so it's
not you know. Well, we'll keep you posted. And again,
this is the twoy Tracker, the legal Tampering Windows Open
Tongue in Tooey is here to give us the updates

with that we welcome in the man himself or wait,
we are efforting the great TJ houshman Zad, who is

(15:24):
going to be joining us here coming up momentary. That's exciting.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
Love TJ. Get some opinions from him. He was on
site at the Combine this year as well. Does a
lot of development and training with with the incoming receivers
quite a bit out here in California, so it'd be
nice to get some some some words from him. Here
hear what he has to say about some of these topics.
That position is taken over man receivers. If you were

(15:50):
if you if you were, like if you were a
dad and your kid really wanted to play running back,
wouldn't you just be like, hey, buddy, learn how to catch, Learn.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
How to catch.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
If you're playing for running back, absolutely yeah, other positions,
like you know, I think my guy's at the right position.
Defensive end, edge rushers, edges are are are in pretty
pretty big demand right now as well.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
So yeah, and now welcome in the Pro bowler himself.
TJ huschman Zada. You hear him Saturdays with LaVar Arrington
and Plexico Burris on up on Game Here on Fox
Sports Radio. TJ. How you doing, man, man, I'm good.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
How y'all doing good?

Speaker 5 (16:25):
Good, Good to hear your voice. Good to talk to
you during the day. You know, how's the weather, how's
it going? Sounds very sounds.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Like it's good.

Speaker 6 (16:35):
I'm pulling up to the training. A couple of clouds
in the sky, but it's about seventy five degrees man,
and gets no better.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Seventy five does look like a good day. TJ. We
were talking about this before you came on, that the
receiver position has completely taken over. Now we're back in
the day next to quarterback. Running back was really the guy,
and that was you know, so many teams based their
offenses around the running back and now you're seeing receivers.
Michael Pittman Junior just got traded at Pittsburgh, but they
gave him a new deal upon his arrival. Alec Pierce

(17:05):
just got you know, one hundred and fourteen million or
whatever it is. Where do you think the switch started
to happen where the receiver position became one of the
most important positions and highly paid positions on the field.

Speaker 6 (17:18):
It's when the emphasis went to the quarterback. Really, receivers
and quarterback, you know, we hand in hand. We like
feeding socks, you know, using feed however you want to.
They go hand in hand. Where if you have a
good quarterback and you don't have a good receiver, your
quarterback is going to have hard times to really reach
ultimate success. You look at Josh Allen before he had

(17:42):
Stefan Diggs, it was like, ah, he's very talented. He
got Stepan Diggs's like, why he's a MVP Kennedy. Although
he won MVP without Diggs, Diggs elevated his game. Since
Diggs is left, everybody's saying, Josh Allen needs what a
white receiver, and so we it just goes hand in hand.
The quarterback needs a receiver, but the receiver also needs

(18:03):
a quarterback. I'm happy for all these dudes.

Speaker 8 (18:06):
Man.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
The amount of money that they're making is life changing,
his generational type of money. And just hope everybody can
stay healthy and manage their money the correct way.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
TJ.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
We saw that Malique Willis just got picked up by
the Miami Dolphins and Tua was released for as large
a dig cap hit as he represented, they released him
seemingly to have made way to bring in Malik Willis.
I'm not so certain that that's what it's going to
be him being the starter, But give me some perspective

(18:39):
on that. Do you like the move like and what's
next for Tua? You know, in your estimation there's.

Speaker 6 (18:46):
Always going to be a spot for Tua when you're
as accurate as he is. The I mean, the big
worry with two is when he gets hit, is he
getting up? How is he going to react? And that's
all I think that's just gonna always be in the
back of everyone's mind because the incidents that he's been
through and they're alarming. But if he wants to continue
to play, let him play. But that accuracy, that throwing

(19:09):
with anticipation and time, man is always gonna be a
place for that. Again, it's just gonna be a help
for Eligue Willis. I actually thought he would end up
with the Carolina with the Arizona Cardinals because of the
connection of the Lafloors. I just felt like, Oh, I'm
gonna let my little brother know. You gotta get him,
do everything in your power to get him. The fact

(19:30):
that he didn't end up with the Arizona Cardinals kind
of concerns me. But happily was his defensive coordinator in
Gen Bay. He saw him every damn practice, understands his
work ethic and what he is and what he isn't
and so this will be an interesting pairing. I'm assuming
throw the ball twenty to twenty five times a game.

(19:51):
They gonna be run heavy. Defensive coach, you got a
quarterback that hasn't had a lot of starts, hasn't had
a lot of pass attempts. You gotta be smart them.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
TJ Husman Jada is joining us here on Fox Sports Radio.
LeVar Arrington Jonas Knox in for calling here on the Herd.
Let me ask you about keeping it with the wide receivers.
I know, obviously you were at the combine. Who's the
best wide receiver coming out? And why is does he
stand above the rest in this draft class?

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Wow?

Speaker 8 (20:21):
Wow? Wow?

Speaker 6 (20:22):
You know? So you know LeVar knows this, Like I'm
biased when you when you ask me these questions, But
I'm gonna be slightly biased and unbiased at the same time.
I'm gonna get you a sleeper. And people are talking
about him because of what he did at the combine,
and he looked really good. He ran fashion and many
thought as Jakobe Lane. And I'm biased because I've been

(20:42):
training him, so I know he knows what to do,
what not to do. At least he will know what
to do, what not to do, when and do it,
how to do it, why to do it type of thing.
But Carnell Tate is the best receiver when you when
you look at his production, you look at his route running,
you look at his body control. Yeah, he ran in
the four five, but that's fast enough. With as long

(21:05):
as you can separate. People always talk about how fast
you can go, but the key is how fast can
you stop? How many people talk about that because they
don't know the game. I'm giving free game up now
people are gonna start talking about it. It's the art
of deceleration, not the art of acceleration. And the sooner
these people understand that, they'll understand why receiver is good

(21:25):
and why one isn't. But I like Carnell Tay, but
Jakobe Lane at six', five just over two hundred, pounds
with his route running ability is, Quickness he's gonna be
a pleasant surprise for. MANY.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Uh Kansas.

Speaker 5 (21:40):
City we had the conversation on On, saturday AND i
asked the, question do you feel as though the window
could be closing on This Kansas City chiefs? Team And
i'm just curious for this audience to be able to
hear your your opinion on on that that matter in
particular or they you, know they just brought In Kenneth

(22:02):
walker as a new running. BACK i think it improves
their their run, Game BUT i don't know how high
the expectations should be with the uncertainty around the health
Of Patrick mahomes or even where This Kansas city defense currently.

Speaker 6 (22:19):
STANDS i say this with respect because of what The
chiefs have, accomplished what.

Speaker 8 (22:24):
And Who Andy reid is as a coach.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
And a play. Caller door, shut window.

Speaker 8 (22:29):
Closed.

Speaker 6 (22:30):
Wow because One mahomes is coming off a major, injury
we don't know how he's gonna react to. That we
don't even know When mahomes is coming. Back they're losing
really good players on the defensive side of the, ball
young defensive, players not only young And trent mcduffy And
Jayden watson just signed with The. Rams they don't have

(22:51):
that receiver that we just spoke up. Earlier who's going
to change the, Game who's going to demand respect when
your game planning to stop The? Chiefs and SO i
just look at it like it's really an uphill. Battle
but when you Have Many reid And Patrick, mahomes the
statement THAT i said from the get, go doors, closed windows,

(23:11):
shut that can always. Change because of those two, GUYS
i just feel like it's gonna be extremely. Hard while
The chiefs are struggling with health and good players and
retaining good, players these other teams are getting, Better they're
maturing that division is gonna be, tough and SO i

(23:32):
just feel like it's an uphill battle for the kansdasity The.
Chiefs they had their. Run can they do it?

Speaker 8 (23:37):
Again?

Speaker 6 (23:37):
Yeah you can never count Out Pat mahomes And Andy,
reid but these other. Teams you got to get them
credit for what they're doing and what they're gonna. DO
i believe It's curtains for the CHIEF.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
Tj husmanzada joining us here On Fox Sports, Radio LeVar,
Arrington Jonas knox and for calling here on The. Herd
let me ask you from a receiver, standpoint if you're
in the shoes Of Justin, jefferson you've seen what's gone
on In. Minnesota THE aj McCarthy Or LeVar calls him,
NINE i call HIM jj McCarthy for that experience and
that experiment. There and then you've seen what happened With

(24:09):
Sam darnold when he Left Kirk cousins out. There there's
been Some Kyler murray conversations that are going. On if
you were a receiver In, minnesota what would your preference
be at the quarterback?

Speaker 6 (24:21):
Position Oh, man competition for, sure somebody that's gonna PUSH
jj McCarthy to be, better somebody that's gone force him
to have to be on his p's and q's every
practice physically and. Mentally if you're Justin, jefferson you just

(24:42):
you don't want to go through another season that you
just went, through especially when you look at what a
lot of other teams have, done are doing and will
continue to, do and just receivers in, general like when
you come into the, league How jets came into the
league SET i mean going, crazy and then you have

(25:03):
this type of. Year it's hard to get used to
that and you see your peers just balling out of.
Control and so for, him If Kyler murray is the,
answer let's. Go if IT'S jj, McCarthy let's. GO i
just need guys to be. Better and that's, frustrating, man
when you have the type of starts in his career
that he had and now it's like, This and SO

(25:24):
i expect competition to be brought in FOR jj. McCarthy
kream always rises to the. Top if he's what they
thought he was when they drafted, him he's gonna rise
to the.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
Top do you Think Kyler murray makes?

Speaker 6 (25:35):
Sense Kyler murray makes sense because he can get out the,
pocket he's, accurate he has a good. Arm Kyler murray's
only negative is he's a small. Guy Kyler. MURRAY i
don't Know Kyler, murray BUT i know people that have
played with. Him he's just a different dude. Man and
so he's gonna have to change some of his ways

(25:58):
personally and be more of a, leader be more of
a guy that people gravitate. Towards. Uh, yeah he's just
gonna have to change a little bit of his, way
especially when you're the. Quarterback you, months it's a, month
and if he doesn't do, that he'll be out the
league very.

Speaker 5 (26:12):
Soon, Dang let's keep it on courtesh, Uh let's keep.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
It let's give it on.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
Receivers let's go to your home where you're a Great
in The Cincinnati, Bengals Jamar chase had a by all, accounts,
statistically had a great, year but it just didn't seem
like it was a great year for this, team and
it seemed like there was like some heartache and some,
hard gut wrenching. Times some of the things we heard
From Joe burrow and not being happy and where they're

(26:45):
at with. Things you, you more than, anyone everybody would
know what the pulse is and Since, cincinnati what should
be the? Approach how should we be looking at This
bengals team this?

Speaker 6 (26:58):
Year, man we better be. Better we better get some
guys on defense that can stop, somebody like have some
pride like. That just that boggles my mind that we
are all professionals and we don't have pride in what
we do day in day out on a consistent. Basis like,
you nobody should be that bad, Defensively, nobody, Nobody if

(27:22):
you have pride and you're a true, professional you nobody
should be that bad defensively where you can't stop somebody
from just going up and down the field all game.
Long jamar had a good, year but when you're, losing
nobody has a good. Year and so that's how it.
Works like you, Know i've Seen joe at The Super,
bowl talk to him, frustrated AND i just hope we

(27:45):
can put a team around him because there's only so
much that somebody can. TAKE i believe he gonna get
A bengals two more years and if things don't, change
AND i think we will start to see a Different Joe.
Burrow because guys want, greatness they want to achieve. Greatness
they want to reach the, pinnacle and we may not

(28:06):
reach it every, year but just give me an opportunity to,
read a real, opportunity and So i'm hoping that we
can draft some guys and get some guys in free
agency defensively that can help accomplish that.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
GOAL.

Speaker 3 (28:18):

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Breaking news From Fox.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
Sports all, right, guys this is Another Sneaky good signing
here At Travis. Etn JAG's running Back Travis etn will
be signing with The. Saints with The, SAINTS.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
I, mean what happened to their running? Back what's his?
Name the The dula, McAllister the elevator Assassin, Kamara Alvin? Kamar,
yeah what happened to?

Speaker 3 (30:46):
Hem oh you know he's you, know not the player
he once. Was and, yeah by the, way if you
do See Alvin, Kamara i'd recommend taking the.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
Stairs he's under contract this. Year SO i think it's
a nice little one two. Punch is that what that?
Is that's so that's YOUR i see what you did there?
Too you want one two? PUNCH i see what he did?
There always in the, gutter throw a class in the.
Gutter that one isn't in the. Gutter that one's in the.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
ELEVATOR i told, you, man you see him take the.
Stairs that's the. Lesson wait for the next. One you
know what's great about that? Story, though no. Worries don't
they knew he had assaulted a guy at an, elevator
but they still let him play The Pro. Bowl we
don't want had to do a little bit moregat so
we don't want to take about of this, game but,

(31:37):
yeah it, is, Uh, Travis, WELL i think it was
a tremendously disappointing year for The New Orleans, saints BUT
i DO i do think The saints come away. Going
we got our, Quarterback tyler trying to build around, them
trying to Get. Tyler Tyler shuck played much better THAN

(31:58):
i think anybody thought he was going to. PLAY i
believe he just turned thirty, four If i'm not, mistaken so, maybe,
uh you, know maybe that's a bit long in the,
tooth but he played a lot better THAN i think
a lot of people. Expected AND i think The saints
are still because remember back before the season, started they
were predicted to be the worst team in the. League
it was the tanking for Arch. Manning they, were you,

(32:19):
know all the stars were gonna line they're going to
bring him. Back and then you come to find out
The saints haven't drafted a quarterback in the first round
Since Archie. Manning that was the last, time So Drew
brees obviously from The, chargers all the quarterbacks that they've,
had they've never drafted one in the first. Round and
if they in fact found their guy In Tyler. Shuck

(32:41):
that's going to be another guy that was drafted later,
on and he performed at a high level last year
and they were a fun team to.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
Watch they went four and one understuck the last part of,
season finishing up stabilizing their their salary cap. Situation i'd
listen If shuck can be that now that they have
film on him and and they can move. FORWARD i
just think that there are a lot of Isn't Cam,

(33:07):
jordan isn't he gone this?

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Year he isn't even he's a free? Agent just bring.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
Like Kellen moore is a is a, fine fine, coach
LIKE i think his his history says that he can
build an offense and this team can be a a
very very productive.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Unit but what are they going to do on?

Speaker 5 (33:35):
Defense and and and, LISTEN i just does this does
adding adding this piece to the backfield etn to the?
BACKFIELD i, mean do you feel confident in this personnel?
Altogether four and one could be misleading if you ask me.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
So Jordan schultz is reporting that the deal For TRAVIS
atn is four, years fifty two. Million we don't know
the guarantees and what what that. Entails but my one
question about him would be why did it take so?
Long some just all, right, man here's what we're gonna
let you. Do you don't have a favorite, Team we're
just gonna like whatever NAME i, Pulled i'd be, like

(34:18):
is there anything? Else and throw four names in a.
Hat we're gonna shake him, up and you got to pick.
One and it's THE Nfc south going? On is there
any other? Choice LIKE i gotten to my, HEAD.

Speaker 6 (34:29):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Know CAN i just Want CAN i just watch baseball In? September?
Ay or LIKE i don't, know you, know DO i
really have to?

Speaker 4 (34:34):
Go?

Speaker 3 (34:34):
No, yeah that division's rough Man Tampa. Bay who knows
what's gonna happen With Mike, Evans but it appears that
that's a real likelihood that he could be going. Out
and then you've got.

Speaker 5 (34:46):
It seemed like they were trending. Up Tampa bay was
like a disappointing. Team oh, yeah but it seemed like
they had the ability to trend up more than what they.
Did it seemed like they cracked their heads off of
a ceiling as. Well and then you look At, carolina
And carolina gave you glimpses like there was there was
positive moments For carolina like things to get excited.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
About. Tetoroa T mak is a.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
Beast he is a, beast and it even gave life
To Bryce young and what he's able to bring to the.
Table this team showed some signs of life this. Year in,
fact it would probably be the Team i'm highest on
in this.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
DIVISION i Love Bejon.

Speaker 5 (35:29):
ROBINSON i think they got some fine football players that
they've brought in on That Atlanta falcons. Team BUT i
just think that there are two bigger question. Marks there
are bigger question marks in my estimation With Michael pennix
and This Atlanta falcons team than even With Bryce young
moving forward with This Carolina panthers. Team and with that being,

(35:50):
SAID i Like Baker. MAYFIELD i Think Baker mayfield is
the best quarterback in that. DIVISION i just don't know
where this Team bay team is going currently after seeing
the way they finished the year last.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Year that's just my. Take they did Resign Kate. Oughton,
okay tight End Kate otton is going back to The. Bucks, yeah,
so and then you've got the leam.

Speaker 8 (36:16):
Right they're.

Speaker 5 (36:16):
Fringe they could go up or they could go, Down
like you don't know which way This tampa team is
going to go this.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
Year and then you've got the rumors that are out
there that Toa Takaba, loo who was released by The
dolphins earlier, today potentially could end up In, atlanta you,
know create some competition there For Michael Pennix. JUNIOR a
couple of lefties out, there they should you, know they
should do just bring back every lefty that ever existed
in THE. Nfl So, Tbo Mike vic who?

Speaker 5 (36:43):
Else Steve young wasn't Wasn't Bloomer sisin wasn't Uh Jacksonville jacksonville.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
Quarterback wasn't he a? Lefty?

Speaker 5 (36:53):
Two?

Speaker 3 (36:54):
Uh mar a lefty of? Course, yeah, yeah, Yeah, Marinovich.
TODD i, mean if we're doing, this let's do. It
will sure anybody remember him back in the? Day are you?
SURE i think? So if he's, not he should have
been the hell of a. Pool if you you pulled
that many lefties.

Speaker 5 (37:14):
Out i'm talking about man eleven eleven make a wish,
city all?

Speaker 3 (37:21):
Right so So tooey one of the other the other
moves that are making the making the. Headlines, yeah got
picked up as.

Speaker 4 (37:28):
Anybody Kenneth walker is going To Kansas city right About.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
Thomas we were talking about the saying it's anything For Michael.
Thomas didn't he beat up some guy who was doing
construction on his? Street Michael, THOMAS i THINK i think
he threw a brick at some guy's. Windown what About Todd?
Gurley Is Todd gurley's out there running? Bags what about?
Talking you met me in that construction Worker you're just
trying to do your. Job you've got you've got safety cones,
out and AN nfl receiver throws a brick at your.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Windshield Tynas kelsey will be returning To Kansas city also
turned one year.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
Deal this Was.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
Indy indy made some moves. Today Alec pierce is, back four,
year one hundred and sixty million, deal million dollar, deal
eighty four million. Guaranteed and then they Traded Michael pittman To,
pittsburgh which we think could be. Assigned maybe they're trying
to Get Aaron rodgers. Back mike, McCarthy there's a lot
of a lot of stuff aligning. There malik willis heading To,
miami three year, deal forty five million dollar. Guaranteed lvar

(38:27):
is not convinced he could be the, Starter but that's
a lot of money he'll.

Speaker 5 (38:30):
Get he'll get what like twenty five or something to
that effect this year this season twenty five.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
Million, yeah what are the guarantees on his it's forty
five million gear forty five, guarantee but a sixty six.
Total so we'll see how it plays.

Speaker 5 (38:43):
Out but does that break down to like twenty five
or something to that effect by the.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
Year now, fifteen by the year it's a three year?
Deal forty five all.

Speaker 5 (38:52):
Right, NO i do not think that the figure is
high enough for it to definitively say they're not going
to do something, else or somebody may compete for that starting.
Job it's NOT i don't think that that's a job
security starting quarterback.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
CONTRACT i. DON'T i. DON'T i don't subscribe to. It
hey for for six starts in your, career it's a good.
Living i'm not.

Speaker 5 (39:15):
Mad i'm not mad at. It but that's just LIKE i,
SAID i looked it. Up it does say multi. Tier
it actually it says lower. Tier it's it's closer to
a lower tier starting quarterbacks contract than it is to
to a top.

Speaker 4 (39:29):
TIER i just don't know. WHAT i don't know what
to make a quinn, YOURS i mean a lot of
people like him down.

Speaker 3 (39:34):
THERE i JUST i don't.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
KNOW i watched him a lot Of texas AND i
just don't know that he's a starting CALIBER nfl quarterback
like long, Term.

Speaker 3 (39:43):
But when do the guy you compete with?

Speaker 5 (39:45):
Us we have the conversation Of Malik willis just being
an incumbent starting quarterback with his body of.

Speaker 3 (39:54):
Work how do you how do you six starts?

Speaker 5 (39:58):
Right how do you confidently say this is our, guy
this is who we're going, with this is the. Start,
WELL i think a lot of it is based on
what this market looks like this year through the, draft
the other quarterbacks that were that were, available AND i
think that's Why Malik willis stepped up and was the
bell of the, ball as they, say BECAUSE i think

(40:19):
people looked at him and, said in comparison to the
other quarterbacks around the, league, look if it was, me
and this might be you, know a little, CONTROVERSIAL i
would have just stuck With tua, like honest to, GOD
i want to stuck With tua and, said all, right
maybe there's a new coaching, staff it's easier to get
out of the contract next. Year but if this was all,
about you, know we need, to you, know we're trying

(40:42):
to win. GAMES i Think tua's done more Than Malik willis.
Has Kyler murray's done more Than Malik willis. Has what
happened In, Tennessee, like let's let's let's take a step
back here real, quick because we're talking all of this.
Hype this is what's what's happened is a market was
created For Malik willis through hype BECAUSE i recall us

(41:02):
being on this show and having conversations About Malik, willis
and we were excited About Malik willis's talent coming out of.
College but maybe i'mproving so on and so, forth, YadA, YadA.
YadA and he goes To tennessee and he's not In tennessee.
Anymore he ends up and he ends up In Green.
Bay what happened In? Tennessee he was a starter there

(41:25):
for for a moment in, time wasn't HE i don't.
THINK i don't think he fared very well. There i'm
just trying to understand where did we get to a
point of where there's this definitive approach to saying That
Malik willis is the guy in free agency or the
guy that you would have wanted to trade for to
bring to your team to improve your. Team i'm not

(41:46):
a buyer that we're not buying.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
That Stan Ryan tannehill was still In, tennessee So tannehill
was still. There Milik willis appeared a couple of times
for The titans Because tannehill wasn't.

Speaker 5 (41:56):
Good and then, yeah, well like you're behind, you you're
not star behind a terrible starting. Quarterback AND i love
Will levis all due, respect But i'm just saying there
was the perfect. Opportunity if he's as good as people
are saying, is it would have been a perfect opportunity
for him to take over a team and be the
starting quarterback as a franchise. Guy it didn't happen that,

(42:19):
Way so it didn't happen that way In Green bay.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
Either we talked WITH. Tj Houshman zada Last, hour who
joined us here On Fox Sports. Radio he shared his
thoughts on The miliquill assigning In.

Speaker 8 (42:28):
MIAMI i actually thought he would end up with The
Arizona cardinals because of the.

Speaker 6 (42:34):
Connection of The. LAFLOORS i just felt, Like, Oh i'm
gonna let my little.

Speaker 8 (42:38):
Brother, no you gotta get him do everything in your
power to get. Him the fact that he didn't end
up with The Arizona cardinals kind of concerns. Me but
half he was his defensive coordinator In Green.

Speaker 6 (42:48):
Bay he saw him every.

Speaker 8 (42:49):
Damn, practice understands his work ethic and what he is
and what he isn't and so this will be an interesting.
Pairing i'm assuming throw the ball twenty to twenty five
times a. Game they gonna be run.

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Heavy so that WAS tj Huschman zada who JOINED u last.

Speaker 5 (43:07):
YEAR i just don't think anyone should get carried away
over this, Move that's All i'm. Saying AND i would
not be surprised if he doesn't maintain the starting. Job
and that's just off of the body of. Work LIKE i,
know he had some positive moments and he played some
really really great, moments some positive football for For Green
bay when when he got his opportunity to, PLAY i

(43:30):
just don't understand why people get so carried away in recency.
Effect like he had an, opportunity he thrived and he did.
Well But i'm kind of WITH. Tj if he's as
good as people were making him out to, be and
in this, scenario why wouldn't you deliver the best quarterback

(43:51):
available in this year's you, know off season to your. Brother,
now granted that they're both in THE, nfc you did
deliver him to or he did go to A afc,
team and that could be that could play a major
part in. It But i'm just trying to understand what
the hooplaw is. About if he gets into this next

(44:13):
situation and he plays at a high, level then you
can have large conversations about how well they did The
lafleur and company did with developing him and helping him
to find his feet and his legs in THE. Nfl
and now we have a franchise guy that has developed

(44:35):
somewhere else and had the opportunity to benefit in a
different a different.

Speaker 3 (44:40):
Franchise it.

Speaker 5 (44:41):
Happens we just Watched Sam, donald WHICH i don't Consider
Sam donald a franchise. GUY i consider him to be
he's a good manager as a, starter and, LISTEN i
don't say manager with the idea of lessening who they.
ARE i think more managers Win Super bowls than game.
Changers but What i'm saying is there are franchise game

(45:03):
managers and franchise game, changers and then there are starting.
Quarterbacks that are not franchise. Guys there are starting quarterbacks
that are not game, changers and they MANAGE i don't
know What Malik willis is. Today i'm not trying to
come down hard on. Them i'm just speaking.

Speaker 3 (45:22):
Reality that's Why i'm curious to see what the structure
of the contract looks like because you, know AND i
mentioned this earlier When Teddy bridgewater signed a three year
deal With carolina a few years, back and it was, like,
oh it Gave Teddy bridgewater a three year, deal and
then it turns, out, well they actually got out of
it after one, year that it was really a one year.
Deal and SO i wonder If miami looks at this and,

(45:44):
says all, right there's some familiarity there with THE gm
and the head coach With Nlik. Willis we bring him,
in let's give it a. Go he gets more than
six starts that he's had in his, career and if
it doesn't work, out you, know we'll go back into
the draft next year and try and see if we
can if we can find a quarterback. There BUT i
think That arizona is. TANKING i, mean for being, honest

(46:06):
Like arizona's. Tanking they would like to be in the
quarterback mix next, year And miami saw this as an
opportunity to, reunite and that's maybe they feel like they
can do special things with the Leak Willis and it
remains to be. Seen BUT i look At, ARIZONA i,
go that's just a tank. Job they're trying to get
in the mix next. Year i'll pose this question to

(46:27):
both of. You would you be disappointed If Malik willis
did not? Produce and would there be any type of
outrage If Malik willis didn't turn out to be a
starter that turns This Miami dolphins team into a competitive?
Team depends on the structure of the, Contract like if,

(46:48):
so you're purely basing it off of what THEY i,
mean it's. Guaranteed they got to pay him into forty. Millions,
yeah but compared to the ninety nine they're taken this
year from two.

Speaker 5 (46:56):
The top ten quarterbacks are making forty million in one, year,
right they're like in.

Speaker 3 (47:02):
The forties at least one.

Speaker 5 (47:03):
Year he's getting it over the duration his guarantees are
over the duration of. Time, again what about, you would
you be disappointed If Malik willis didn't have a very
very productive.

Speaker 4 (47:19):
Year, no BECAUSE i don't really have that high of
expectation for him that based on what we've.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
Seen he starts, LIKE i just don't. THINK i just
don't think you.

Speaker 5 (47:27):
Can and even if you do have a high ceiling for,
him why would you put yourself too far over your
skis in terms of excitement for the potential of what
he could. BE i think this is like a wait
and see, MOMENT i guess is What i'm. Saying it
comes across As i'm being a hateful person Towards Malik,
willis And i'm. Not i'm just, saying don't act as

(47:48):
though this, is, oh.

Speaker 3 (47:49):
We got him legal. Tampering, yeah.

Speaker 5 (47:55):
Business is Book willis today, like, no you can't and
you can't lose yourself and and that that to that the.

Speaker 3 (48:01):
Game and they were probably the only team that was
going to give him a deal like, this and because
they know him so, WELL i DON'T i don't think
ANY i don't know how many teams around THE nfl
looked At Malik wilson said, yeah, yeah that's the, one
like we got, it because, otherwise do you guys Remember Matt, Schaub,
yeah he was a backup for a couple of years
and then he went to and he was.

Speaker 4 (48:20):
Fine he was a. Pro Kyle shanahan made him and
he was a, starter and they were. Good they made
last couple of. Times but you know, what like he
never was a Super Bowl he was never going to
Win Super, bowl, Right.

Speaker 3 (48:31):
AND i think you and.

Speaker 5 (48:34):
You entertained it for a moment In, houston you entertained,
it like can he get him to Kent Ken?

Speaker 3 (48:40):
Shop get him? There like, also if you want to
do if you want to do a packers, camp Remember Matt.
Flynn Matt flynn got that deal with In. Seattle and
then they Drafted Russell wilson with a mid round or
a third round pick or something like, that And wilson outplayed,
him and they just they, said all, right, well and
we know we committed all this money to, him but
we'll just give the opportunity to the better. Guy and
unless they do that in the mid and somebody surprises,

(49:01):
Him Malik wills is going to be your starter at
least for this, year for good or for.

Speaker 5 (49:04):
BAD i just think it's pretty dangerous to get too
excited over an unproven entity at that. POSITION i think
that that's ultimately what it comes down, to, well who,
knows maybe The dolphins wi won a playoff. Game it's
been about twenty six, years.

Speaker 3 (49:16):
So flip it's. Unbelievable do.

Speaker 8 (49:20):
