Two Pros and a Cup of Joe.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Fox Sports Radio, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with the hair
coming up on this Wednesday edition. It was a wild
one because it was a wild night and day to
recap with the Max Crosby fiasco between the Ravens and
the Raiders. You had Team Italy pulling off the shocking
upset of Team USA and apparently their manager didn't know
the rules heading into last night's game between the two.

(00:23):
We've also got Bam one Baio with eighty three points,
but not every record is the same as before and
NBA fans are really sensitive to it. Brady Quinn's got
technical difficulties but still fighting through. Petros Popajegas is gonna
stop by. We've got our midweek awards and we've got
the leftovers. It's all yours coming up next here, Two
Pros and a cup of Joe on a wild Wednesday

(00:44):
here on Fox Sports Radio, and we are off and
running here on a Wednesday morning. It is two Pros
and a cup of Joe. Fox Sports Radio. No LeVar Arrington,

(01:10):
It's just Brady Quinn and Jonas Knox taking you all
the way up until nine am Eastern Time.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Six o'clock Pacific.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
You can listen to this show as always on the
iHeartRadio app. You can find us on hundreds of affiliates
all across the country as we take you live all
the way up until nine am Eastern time, three o'clock Pacific.
It is a three hour extravaganza. If you're listening on
the podcast, we appreciate you doing so. And we are
off and running and rocking and rolling. Brady Quinn, it's

(01:39):
just you and you and I today. Bub you ready
to fire off rounds?

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Let's go.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
That's right, yeah, and you better get used to the
sounds right now because we have one work Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Boy, oh that was we all get over there. Yeah,
this is some technical difficulties. That's what happens. I think
in a windstorm.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Won't look in the in the Midwest they were dealing with.
I mean, if you're a weather geek like me, you
know all about these storms that went through the Midwest,
tornadoes touching down I believe in Mississippi as well too. Yeah,
there was all sorts of stuff that was going on yesterday.
So hopefully things are okay. Is Brady still with us?

Speaker 4 (02:21):
We still Yeah, he's still here, but he's reconnecting.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Okay, all right, so we will catch up with Brady Quins.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
There's plenty to get to. It was a wild day.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
I was just talking to Ben Mallor who had just
finished up his show, and it's one of those days
to where you get a bunch of stories, they all
land in your lap. There's all sorts of juicy tentacles
or branches to every single topic tree that you're given,
which all that means is that later today and doing
the show tomorrow, we're just gonna get a bucket of crap.

(02:54):
Like that's really just what's gonna happen, and there's not
gonna be a lot of great topics. But as it
stands from me, yesterday all sorts of fun stuff and
the fun stuff really took a turn for the Raiders
and the Ravens, who apparently there is no deal the
Max Crosby for two first round picks. Apparently that's not happening.

(03:15):
And the first round pick that was number fourteen overall
that was going to the Baltimore Ravens, or was going
to the Raiders by way the Baltimore Ravens. That's not happening.
Trade is off, Max Crosby reportedly failed as physical.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Yet, if you.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Believe any of the insiders and the people covering this story,
a lot of the feeling around the league is that
the Baltimore Ravens got cold feet, and the Baltimore Ravens
kind of screwed the Raiders over. And so there's a
lot of people that wonder, maybe what this says about
the Ravens organization pulling the plug on all this. But
if you're Baltimore and you trade away that much capital

(03:54):
for a guy, and you get him in the building
and every deal is pending him passing a physical, and
he doesn't pass the physical, what are you supposed to do?
Just sign off on it and say, hey, don't worry
about it. Worst case scenario will pretend like it's the
Civil War.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
We'll just saw it off.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
We'll give him a tree branch, have him hobble around
on that, and hope he's ready to go Week one.
He failed the physical. I understand the guy failed the physical.
And you see it happen in the NFL all the time.
You'll see it happen with combine workouts. You'll see it
happen with guys getting drafted. One team's comfortable with taking

(04:40):
a player, one team's not. The Baltimore Ravens got Max
Crosby in the building. Their physicians looked it over and said,
we don't feel great about this. Sorry, you know, we
just don't feel great about this. But it's almost as
if the Raiders are under this illusion because they went
out and spent a bunch of money day before that

(05:01):
they're in control of everything, and the Raiders are the
team that you want to be when it comes to
functioning at a high level. I got news for you,
and I said this before the fact that Baltimore, who's
got the reputation they have, walked away from the Tyler
Linderbaum deal and walked away from that altogether. In offering

(05:22):
the money they did and trying to get a deal
done and him saying no, and them saying, well, we're
not going to franchise him. That would kind of raise
a red flag for me. There's certain organizations that if
they walk away from a player or they walk away
from a deal, it's different than somebody else. Baltimore has
got a pretty good reputation for being a pretty solid

(05:42):
organization for a long time. Philadelphia, if they walk away
from a deal. There's a report out there that Philadelphia
might even consider trading Jalen Carter. If Philadelphia traded Jalen Carter,
wouldn't that raise a red flag for you about Jalen Carter.
So the idea that Baltimore or is just this team
that screwed the Raiders over and they backed out on

(06:03):
the deal. They brought in Max Crosby. Their team physicians
looked at him and reportedly the physical didn't add up
and they didn't like what they saw. So when I
see the story come out and you've got all these
Raider fans that are bitter like, oh, the Ravens screwed
him over, and all these insiders are saying, this is
a bad look for the Ravens. What are they supposed

(06:24):
to do if they bring the guy in they have
their doctors look at it and realize, yeah, this just
doesn't work for us.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
You know, there's differences oftentimes with the medical opinions, And
I keep going back to how things are going to
turned out for Drew Brees. Had the doctors with the
Miami Dolphins cleared him and said he his shoulder will
be fine. Instead, I believe this story as it goes is.
They said that Drew Brees's shoulder, wouldn't you be good
enough that first season? And they never be back to

(06:54):
one hundred percent And that was their opinion. The Saints
had their opinion, and Drew Brees that's signing a deal
to be the quarterback. I was Sean Payton the Saints
and obviously what a Super Bowl and become a first
dollar Hall of Famer. So it's kind of crazy to think,
you know, how there's that big of a variance in

(07:15):
different opinions on medical opinions. But that's the reality of
the world we live in. I think we've all known
that too, from seeing different doctors for the different things.
You've had a number of issues throughout the year. Oh yeah,
a number that people have looked at and they said,
what the hell is that? That's right, you know, but
in some cases they said cut it off, and others
they just said, you're gonna have to live with that
for a while.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yeah, well, trusting buddy, I walked around, you know, with
with teeth that it looked like my tongue.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Was in jail all through high school. And then I
had people tell.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Me now they look fine, and it was like nah,
I don't think that mirror is lying to me, and
that one's not either.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I'm going to go get veneers.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
You know, different opinions on your physical looks and how
the body operates. I just think like this whole you've
got Raider fans almost taking victory laps like, oh yeah,
they're the clown show organization, and see, we want to
do things on the up and up. All because they
spend one hundred something million dollars in a quick span,
and so they're walking around peacocking as if they're the

(08:10):
team that runs a high functioning organization and operation around
the league. No, the fact that Baltimore I would trust
their judgment in this, and we talked about it yesterday. Look,
it's not to say that that Tyler Linderbaum's not a great.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Player, because he clearly is.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
He was the bell of the ball, so to speak,
when it came to the free agent class. But the
fact that Baltimore an organization who's got a pretty good
reputation about doing things at a high level and doing
things the right way. The fact that they looked at
Linderbaum and said we're not even going to tag him,
like we're not even like we're willing to let him walk.

(08:49):
That tells me that there's at least something to keep
an eye on as far as why would they walk
away from him? And yet the Raiders are going to
overpay by almost ten million a year in comparison to
the next best center. So I just look at it,
and the reaction was, Man, Baltimore, what a bad look
your guy Jason Lockin Firm, I mean looking for was,

(09:10):
you know, talking about what a bad look it was
for the organization that the front office would do this
and try finding an agent or somebody that wants to
deal with Baltimore again. Okay, right, because if they offer
a certain amount of money, they're gonna say no. Just
on general principle. We don't like the fact that they
didn't let a guy walk in with one good leg

(09:32):
and take the job from somebody for two first round picks. Okay,
So everybody's just going to run away from Baltimore now
because of this deal. I just the whole thing's laughable.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
I was just gonna say. I mean, first off, Baltimore
is one of the better organizations in the NFL. Most
players know that they take care of their players, and
I'm thinking about they changed to a grass field in
their stadium just to help presentft tissue Laura Tremney injuries.
So this is not an organization that's in question for

(10:02):
all this. I think those Raider fans who are concerned
now because you spend all that money, think you're going
to have the cap space and the draft capital to
rebuild and start this thing over. Meanwhile, now you're now
you're saying, like, what are we going to do now?
And I think this becomes a greater issue as well,
with the timing and the process of how during the
legal tampering period, all these deals are done and they're

(10:24):
all subject to a physical they're all subject to the
first day of the new league year, uh where things
could fall through or teams might end up having a
better offer and they could quote unquote have the deals
fall through. I look at this a little bit skeptical too,
and wonder, you know, did they look at Nice Crosby's injuries,
and do they look at you know, all the scans

(10:45):
and everything else, and you go, yeah, he's got some
major degenerative issues. And even though he hasn't had that
big of an issue missing games, he's probably missed one,
you know, last year they held him out a little bit,
but before that, maybe maybe a game. I mean, he's
been a worry been out there, But there could be
some long term concerns and issues where if you're going
to pay him that amount of money, they're reconsidering some

(11:08):
of them and they might look at a guy like
Trey Hendrickson and say, YEA, if we're looking for an
edge rusher, a guy, maybe we give him cheaper, and
maybe he'd be a guy who we've watched within our
division be extremely productive. I mean people tend to forget
that was a guy who had seventeen and a half
sacks back to back seasons. When he's healthy and he's
out there, he's one of the better edge rushers in
the league. So there's all sorts of little games that

(11:30):
are played. But I don't know that that's the case here.
I think there's just some legitimate concerns about the deal
that was signed and obviously what his potential issues could
be moving forward as a Baltimore Raven. I'm more curious
to see what the Raiders are going to do now.
I mean, there have to be some other suitors out
there that have the other teams that are willing to
take on Max Crosby despite some of these issues at

(11:53):
the right price. And so we'll see what exactly that's
going to be. But that's more where my curiosity leads.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Yeah, I mean, listen, the Cowboys just to win the
breakup with Micah Parsons, they would take Max Crosby with
a whiffleball bat for a leg and just the irony.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
The irony to that situation is obviously now they're looking
at for Sean Gary of the Green Bay Packers. There's
the Cowboys rumored to have been looking at them to
bring him in. It's like, all right, wait, you said
a guy there you wouldn't sign to a long term deal.
Now you're taking one of the packer.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
Like correct, yeah, that's correct.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
How it makes sense. I mean, granted it would be
for a you know, a lesser, lesser deal, but you
don't convince me there wasn't off the field issues with
Micah Parsons.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
And it's like, I mean, there was an easier way
to get here. Guys, it was just pay him last year.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Like it's not like he didn't want to be there,
Like there was an easier way to get to where
you needed to go. But it's almost like they looked
at the ways app on their phone and said, all right,
we can get there on a straight shot on the
highway here. But you know what, what's wrong with taking
a look at the town? You know, let's just go,
let's go navigate all the way around, and let's go finally,
and then we'll finally get to our destination. And we're

(13:06):
just gonna pay a bunch of money for a bunch
of other guys. And also, from on the Ravens standpoint
of this, it's not like this is the first time
I know that everybody thinks that everybody's so fearful, all
these Raider fans, these fanboys who have been watching a
diaper fire for decades.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
I feel like you're just really taking.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
It because it's it's It would be like, no, no,
it would be it would be like a homeless guy
seeing a guy on his way into work and saying,
what a loser. Hold on a second, I got a
briefcase a six figure job, and I just parked my

(13:45):
Bentley and you and you're laying and taking a nap
on a pizza box, and you've got two different shoes on,
and I'm life and and I'm getting criticism from you.
It sounded like the Ravens haven't done this before. There's
history here where brock Marion the Ravens backed out because
he failed a physical. Ryan Grant in twenty eighteen, the

(14:06):
Ravens backed out because he failed a physical. Michael Brockers
in twenty twenty, the Ravens backed out because he failed
a physical. It's like this has happened before. It's not
like some they're trying to get back at the Raiders
or there's some sort of bad blood there. The guy
just had a bum knee and they're not comfortable with
giving up two first round picks, and by the way,
one of them is the number fourteen overall in this draft.

(14:28):
They gave up a lot for him, and so I
don't I don't blame him for having some concerns.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
There and wanting to make sure everything was on the
up and up.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
If they're going to give away that much capital to
try and bring a player in, I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
There's a photo going around too of the X rays
of that meme. I'm not sure if he saw that
on the internet. I'm sure you did.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yeah, but that's funny, you know, I saw I thought
that was actually your X ray, which is interesting.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
I did have a hippo violation, so I try to
make sure those things. But we don't have our resident
Penn State. Penn State are here to defend the Micah
Parsons whole situation when you're shocking here and all that.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah, yeah, he will not, he will not. He will
not be here to UH to defend that. It's yeah,
the whole it's a very bizarre. And now there is
some speculation, some rumblings that maybe Trey Hendrickson is in
play for the Baltimore Ravens, that maybe that might be.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
U a investment for this That's where I think everyone's like,
you know, there's there's thoughts, goes, and maybe the Baltimore
Ravens got out of this deal because they felt like
they could get a player who is very productive as
an edge rusher, fits what they want to do and
maybe for a lesser price. And and that's where there's
people who are skeptic about how this whole thing went

(15:43):
down with the Physical and I can understand the skepticism,
and maybe there is elements of that, you know, maybe
that they use the the guys of UH failed Physical
to go ahead and sign up, but the reality is, uh,
they have the right to do so, and that's what like, again,
you want to get those players in there for a
physical as fast as humanly possible so you can get
this stuff done. And when you allow it to drag

(16:05):
on or we've got these again deals on paper that
aren't necessarily completely done until that the physical takes place,
it leads to situations like this, And this is where
news gets announced before they're actually done. So I think
it's a good reminder and good lesson to a lot
of folks out there, Like there's a process of how

(16:25):
this all works in the NFL, and clearly we get
ahead of ourselves at the start of the new league year.
And it'd be nice if you saw Roger Goodell in
the league try to, you know, change this, and instead
they're only only making what doesn't seem to make sense
at all. Defining is legal tampering. It's either tampering or
it's not. If it's not tampering, call it something else,
like stop with the charades are stupid. It sounds right,

(16:48):
but beside the point. Just help us get to a
process where let the announce the deals they're legitimate we
don't have issues like this moving forward, Ian.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Rap before it to tweet a couple of moments ago
that said raiderstar Max Crosby now back from Baltimore with
the trade to the Ravens office, headed back into the
building in Las Vegas, ready to resume his training and
rehab program.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
His mindset.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Crosby is ready to play football for the Raiders, ready
to move forward.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
So who knows, maybe they're gonna away.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
I'm sure you're coming back in there.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
He's like, what are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Like, we just gonna forget about the fact that you
benched him, you sat him down, which actually, upon further review,
if the knee was that bad and uh and they
were worried about it, maybe the Raiders were making the
right decision. But that was, you know, clear tank job.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
Hey, Ian, just go ahead and leave the copy and
paste stuff on their next stop, so you just know
it came directly from the agent. I mean, this is
the most insufferable time for insiders right now, where they're
getting so much BS statements from all these players agents
and they're just copy and pasting and put him out there.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
That's the world, oh man. That that is the one
thing I will give Mike Florio credit.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Uh he's a bit much at times because he's got
an agenda, care agenda, so he's getting any Oh yeah, yeah,
so he he will call it out anytime he sees it.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
So I do give him some credit for that.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
But yeah, wild turn of events, the Max Crosby deals off,
and if he ends up somewhere else, uh you know,
and and you know, maybe there's some team in the
Civil War League that's okay with a player with a
bum leg starting on their front line, then.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
That is true.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
Uh, not that I would know, more like three thumbs,
but is what it is. And we will keep you

Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you here. Coming up in
about twenty minutes from now, we are going to tell
you about somebody who's got a radical idea on how
to fix an entire league in the world of sports.
That will be yours right here on FSR. But right
now it is time for the tire rack play of
the day.

Speaker 7 (21:09):
Bam out of Bayo is a complete monster.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
And really get the ball into Bams hand the right way.

Speaker 7 (21:17):
Only Wilt Chamberlain has more points in an NBA game
in Association history than bam Auta Bayo, who has eighty
two eighty three for Bamauta Baio thirty six of forty
three from the line.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Both records.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Heat Radio Network on the call right outside bam Adebayo,
who apparently was participating in a Papa shot contest on
a Tuesday night in the National Basketball Association.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
That is your tire rack play of the day.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
For over forty years, Tirack's been helping customers find the
right tires for how, what and where they drive. Shipped
fast and freeback by free Road has a protection with
convenient installation options like mobile tire installation i iraq dot
com the way tire buying should be. Just an incredible,
incredible free throw performance by bam out of Bayo last night,
eighty three points, the second highest point total in NBA history.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Just incredible stuff.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Did somebody explain to me what the hell was going
on with that game? Like, why are they sally bam
out of Bio? Is that just so you could go
past Kobe's point total? Is that what this is about?

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Oh, that's correct, Yeah, that's correct. Yeah you got yeah,
you saw that? Yeah, correct, Yeah, that's exactly what it was, so.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
The NBA has reached the point now where we're trying
to help other players just break records. I mean, I
guess that's that's why Lebron's still playing is other case?

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Yeah, I mean, listen, that's why I said it's a
Papa shot. When you play Papa shot, there gets to
a point to where you get an extra point the
final ten seconds, so like, and then everything becomes a
three and the rim starts moving from left to right,
and they may as well just do that, like if
if we're going to go all the way with this
gimmicky garbage.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
And look, it's not to say you didn't have a.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
Great game, but I hope that people historically remember the
game for what really happened. You had players intentionally fouling
so the guy could go get more points of the line. Again,
incredible game, a really really good player. Was probably really
fun for he fans that were in attendance. All of

(23:23):
that is nice, but dude, they the whole thing felt
rinky dink based on the fact that they were manipulating
the game so that he could tack on points.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Like, how's there? How are any How's anybody okay with this?

Speaker 3 (23:37):
When would this ever happen in the nineties? Would this
ever happened in two thousands? Like what was? What? Would
this have happened under David Stern?

Speaker 2 (23:47):
In all seriousness, like it wouldn't It wouldn't have happened.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
I was Ben Mallard and I were joking.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
We were talking about you know, in the nineties, it
wouldn't have happened because you either would have had some
guy who's hung over from the night before or some
random white guy who's seven to one from you know,
some semi pro league in Lithuania who would have just
taken somebody out at the knees, like he would have
been brought in to use his six fouls to make

(24:17):
a point that you're not going to have that happen
against us.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
That's how that would have worked.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Well. The mentality of the league was just different. You know,
guys weren't friends, Guys weren't trying to team up. You know,
guys are trying to win championships. And they were a
cutthroat about it, and they were physical. And the way
they'd go about playing is they took pride and defense.
They took pride in not allowing guys to do something
like that, and that's unfortunately where we've gotten to now

(24:44):
with the NBA. It's why it makes it such a
hard product to watch that we're just promoting a guy
where both teams are trying to help him beat a record.
I mean, what are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (24:57):
I would also say, if you're the NBA and and
you're so worried about everything being on the up and
up from a gambling standpoint, if I was a gambler,
if I was a sports book, I'd be looking at that,
going really that that's so so now everybody's in on it.
So is this you versus them? Or is it hey,

(25:17):
let's all be a part of history. That's and I
know that they're you know, nobody's going to take that
approach because maybe you know it didn't impact the betting line,
but still the fact that that's allowed and that's going
on in a game would raise questions for me if
I if I was going to actually take that sport
serious and feel like, you know, at least I'm betting
on something that's on the up and up.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
If they're going to roll that out so some guy
can get a record.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
A little bit, I'm looking at too, but even more
than that, you know, where does the NBA players you
need to step in and just try to protect I
mean one of the things that when you have a union,
and obviously everyone's sorry about like CBAS and the war conditions,
but it's also about preserving the legacy of the guys
before you. And at no point to the other players

(26:04):
around the league, go hey, guys, what are we doing,
Like this isn't basketball, This isn't a game that we
were brought up on, like where we're propping up a
guy or trying to foul guy in the final moments
just so you can tell break a record. I mean,
it's ridiculous. At some point, like the league needs to
turn this thing over to some players who remember how

(26:25):
the game is supposed to be played and what it's
supposed to represent. I mean that might be entertaining from
Miami fans or there in attendance or fans you get
like a free taco or something if he scores a
certain amount of points a certain amount of free throws.
But you know, watching the end of it, it wasn't
even an entertaining game to watch, just because of all
the back and forth. I mean, it was, honestly, I

(26:48):
was watching like disbelief of what the sport has become.
And I feel like with the NHL will all the
momentum off of the Olympics, with the way baseball has
made some subtle changes and you see the impact obviously
the you know, the World Baseball Classic right now. I
just I feel like the NBA has tried to pride

(27:10):
itself and it's kind of you know, the Christmas Day
Game everything else. The NFL's taken that away. If they're
not careful, people will continue to care less and less
about that sport and it will get surpassed by some
of the others that have been beneath it for a
while because they're not. And this is a large, large
part to do with Adam Silver too. He's not doing

(27:31):
anything to guard the sanctity of the actual game itself
instead of just letting anything happen. And that was evidence
of that last night.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
And the problem is is that you'll get you'll get
people who want to defend the sport and the league
and go all the way.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
And I get it.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
There's you know, TV partners and ESPNS involved, there's a
lot of people involved, but they'll just they'll call us haters.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
Like they'll say, you're a hater, just trying to be
a down er.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
All you guys are doing is propping up football, when
the reality is nobody's been more honest about awful football
games that we've watched over the past couple of years
NFL college football than this show.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
We'll tell you the game sucks. They were.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
In fact, that was one of the one of the
great moments of the show. Getting to come in every
Monday after Penn State defecated all over themselves in another game.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
That was great. That was fun for us.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
It started off as a number two team and an
example of that.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Look, that was just a wonderful time to exist on
this show every Monday morning, having to deal with that.
But I just, yeah, I don't know how you watch
that and you're just okay with it.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
I really don't. I don't. That seems a little weird.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
And I'd say this, like, I love the game of basket.
I grew up playing basketball, you know, and my daughters
now my kids are all will all play basketball. I
actually feel like it is the best sport, the most
fundamental sport to teach kids at a young age that
will help every other sport they play, so like, this
doesn't come from any sort of mean spiritedness. This comes
from like, look at the ratings, look at the downward

(29:15):
trend of what's happening to that sport and why, I mean,
what we love is when we watch competition. You know,
one of the reasons why whether you're a hockey fan
or not. And you could say, well, I'm patriarch and
that's why I've watched, you know, the the Olympics, and
I watched you know, the men's hockey win and the
women's hockey win. That's it was about that. It's like, no,

(29:36):
it's not. It was because it was a competitive game,
Like anyone who watched that was like, man, it feels
kind of like David versus good Liath. We went into
overtime three B three and you're watching the three best
hockey players in the world for Canada and they couldn't
figure out how to get a goal and instead the
United States did. Like that's one of those all time

(29:57):
incredible stories. What story is that being told right now
in the NBA? I mean Lebron Lebron and how long
he's playing into this at this point but basically just
playing offense, not really playing any defense. I mean, like
a team popping up a guy just to beat Kobe's
old point total.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
And also, like Charles Barkley is one of the most
brutally honest insiders you'll ever see. There's no He'll just
call it as he sees it, and that's why he's
so great. And Charles Barkley openly admits he prefers the
NHL playoffs over the NBA, and he covers and he
covers the sport. They've got video of him watching hockey

(30:37):
games during the NBA games that he's covering on set.
Like that'll tell you everything you need to know, Like
it's right there. He'll he'll tell you like, yeah, I
prefer this product over the other one. It's just yeah,
that was I see the eighty three, and I'm thinking
of myself and the first, you know, and here's the problem.
I see the eighty three and the first thing I

(30:59):
thought of is how many free throws? Because when Kobe
got his eighty one, I think he had twenty free throws.
I think it was something around that number. And I
go and I check, and there's forty three free throw attempts.
The Wizards as a team, I think had twenty seven?

Speaker 1 (31:17):
What are we doing?

Speaker 3 (31:19):
And well beyond that, the game wasn't really that close
at them, and I was sitting thinking, why are they
fouling him? Like you're like, what are the Is this
really about just trying to get him back to the
free throw mine to score with very little time less
as their pass it. I mean, it also leads to think,
is it just guys love Bam at a bio that much?
Did they dislike Kobe that much? I mean, like I

(31:40):
would imagine there's some players who idolized Kobe and would
want to protect that in a manner, you know what
I'm saying, Like, there's guys who feel that where we're like,
I'm not going to let him, you know, take Kobe's record,
or I'm not going to let him take you know,
this away from Kobe's legacy. Well, yeah, apparently that's not
the mentality of the league.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Let me ask you this, If Kobe Bryant was in
BAM shoes last night, do you think he would have
been okay with people fouling intentionally so he'd be pissed?

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Well, he'd be.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Picked by the way, it would have never happened that
way anyway, you know, he was going to be taking
all his shots to your point at the free throw line.
He was going to be making sure he was taking
shots other on the court.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Yeah, but hey, congratulations, So there's that. Congratulations to Bam
Autebayo now second all time in points in a game
in the NBA history, next to Will Chamberlain and just
ahead of a Kobe.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
Bryant now at eighty three. So there's that.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
It is Two Pros and a Cup of Joe here

Coming up next, somebody's got a radical idea, maybe not

Speaker 5 (33:42):
Sometimes you can't get to everything in the world of
sports or entertainment. Good thing the guys are here to
bring you in case you missed.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
It, and so there's a lot of a lot of
conversation that is currently going on about how to fix things.
We just discuss the issue with bam Adebayo's eighty three
point performance where the league is okay with players intentionally
fouling so a player can get his numbers up in
a game. Well, Steve Kerr, who always has an opinion

(34:13):
on all sorts of stuff, the head coach of the
Golden State Warriors. He also had some thoughts on how
to improve the NBA.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Let's take a listen.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
I know this will not be a popular opinion in
the league office, but I will continue to say it
because it's obvious we need to play fewer games. We
need to take ten games off the schedule. I think
it would be great for the league. And I get it,
it's revenue and you'd have to get everybody to agree
to take a little less money, and that's a really

(34:45):
hard thing to do. But what I know about the league,
about coaching, about how hard it is to play the
modern game with the pace in the space, I think
it would be a more competitive and healthier league if
we played fewer games.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Since that's never going to happen, what's a better idea?

Speaker 3 (35:04):
Well, I mean you're a head coach, right when you
just mix in more players then to work in less
playing time for those games, like you have direct control
of that as a head coach. As far as I'm
played to use your bench more, Steve Kerr is that
other works And by the way, going back to the
bam at a bio for four months all that, uh

(35:27):
and and just to tie into the ratings. If the
team that's playing against the buying heat and Bam out
of Bio does not care about the outcome of the game,
which they can't if they're helping to foul Bama at
a Bio. Take them back to the foul line. Why
should we watch? Why should we care about the outcome
of the game outside of betting and gambling if you

(35:47):
don't care about it as a player. Because that's what
basically the wistars are saying last night is we don't
care we're getting blown out. We're going to help Bam
out of Bio get this record.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Yeah, it's basically, you know, uh, stick around and care
about something, and so the their selling point is yeah,
but you could be a part of history, like okay,
And that's that's why we say, at least the WWE
tells you what it is. Hey, guys, you know these
you're predetermined. You know, maybe you know what's gonna happen,
but maybe there'll be a surprise here and there. But

(36:20):
here's what it is. It's sports entertainment. Vince mc mann
told that. I told that to everybody years ago. We're
not wrestling, it's not a real sport. It is sports entertainment.
Clear difference. Last night was just a spectacle.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
Like it was.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
It was gimmicky and I don't know. And so it's
now Steve Kerr is saying we need less games. Okay, right,
good luck.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
You're you're in direct control over how long you play
player per a game. So if you're gonna sit there
and say, like, oh, the game, the spacing, it's it's,
you know, such fast paced on that. Okay, there's seven
guys more, I mean, either that or sick guys out.
I mean, but what do you want to do. They're
not going to change is the amount of games. They're
a TV contract. There's too much money on the line

(37:04):
these media networks. I mean, they so advertising, they've got
some they're not going to try to cut down them out.
We're really being honest about it. Why don't we cut
out the gimmicks with the NBA couple over the hell
in the middle of the season whatever they call off.
That'd be great playing games for the playoffs. Why don't
we do what we always should make make some of
those short series in the playoffs so there's actually more

(37:26):
meaningful games in the playoffs where when one team gets
up by twenty it feels like the other team basically says,
all right, we're on the next game, and that could
be in the first or second, second quarter. It's incredible.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
Yeah, and we've talked about it on the show before, like,
if you if you wanted to actually make the playoffs
more exciting, especially in the early rounds, make them shorter series,
go back to your five games, make it a three game,
do whatever you want to do. But that's never going
to happen because they'd be losing money. There's there's too
much money involved, especially in playoff games. So, by the way,
in case you missed this, and we'll have plenty of

(38:00):
thoughts on Brady Quinn, who's really torn over the result
that took place in the WBC between the US and Italy.
We will have more on those coming up next hour
here on the show. But this was a feel good story.
Japan who won Yesterday, the Japanese crowd a gave a

(38:24):
standing ovation to Andre Satoria.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
He is a Czech electrical worker.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
He received the standing ovation at the Tokyo Dome after
throwing over four scoreless innings against the Japanese. That was
the final WBC game of his career, so the guy's
twenty nine years old, probably never going to get a
sniff in Major League baseball. This is the last time
he's going to be able to participate in the WBC,
and the Japanese celebrate him, and you'll see it.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
I mentioned this.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
There was a Brazilian guy who's a construction worker literally
is fixing roadways and playing against major league players, and
that's why I was skeptical on the WBC and I
was not really into it. And then a few years
ago I said, Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna actually watch this,
and it's awesome. It is a really really fun event,
and it's it's really good baseball, and there's really good

(39:15):
stories to go along with it.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
Yeah, they actually try to win, you know, i'd try
to prop up the other team. So I thought, giving
appreciation for the storylines behind what some of these players do,
they're actually competitive games or they're trying to be competitive
by I should say.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Now lastly here and I figured this was an appropriate
way to conclude today's edition of In Case you missed it.
Jonas Knox Brady Quinn here on two Pros and a
Cup of Joe. You're just kind of scouring through social
media and they'll you'll just see random tweets that will
pop up. And I was just wondering, Brady, if you
had any thoughts on the following tweet that I saw

(39:53):
sent out from somebody who I would argue should still
be considered a Hall of Famer despite how their career.
But you know, somebody who's very active on social media.
I'm gonna go ahead and assume that this was him
who sent this tweet. But Antonio Brown, who a little
less than an hour ago, right after we went off

(40:13):
the air, sent the following tweet quote, bitches, pay a
local horny photographer and be like, photo shoot today.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Brady, your thoughts.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
I'm not really sure what to make of that conclusion too.
Is he the photographer in this case?

Speaker 1 (40:34):
I don't know, but it is It is.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Fair to point out that there are there are women,
and I'm not trying maybe there's men that do this too,
But I have seen women who rent out a fake
plane and make it seem like it's their private jet
and take pictures and post it on social media.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
All right, Well, I think there's a lot of men
who are guilty of that too. I mean, let's be
honest with ourselves, not just women.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
It's fair
