Two Pros and a Cup of Joe. Fox Sports Radio,
LaVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you here. Coming

it was a wild start to free agency. What was
the legal tampering period, but you know what we mean,
and we're going to talk about all the big time moves,
Teams that improved, teams that did not. Pete Prisco very
(00:20):
skeptical about some of the contracts that are handed out.
We're also going to talk about the big Team USA
win over Mexico in the WBC. We've got a major
update and another edition of In case you missed it,
a story in the NBA that we've been chronicling for
well over a week now. Plus we've got our fsr
IR and we've got the leftovers. It's all yours. Coming
up next here, Two Pros and a Cup of Joe
(00:41):

And we are rocking and rolling here on this Tuesday morning.
(01:23):
How the hell's everyone feeling here? Huh?
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Good morning?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Feeling great?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Let's go, Yeah, let's listen. It was a it was
a lot of spending yesterday. Okay, there's a lot of
a lot of financial decisions that were made in the
National Football League. We had some history be made at
a couple of different spots. One to start off with,
the Miami Dolphins actually did it. They're going to swallow
(01:48):
what ninety nine million dollars in dead cap with Tuatago
Bay loa joke. They're going to do a post June
one designation, so they're going to be able to split it,
I guess over the next couple of years. So they
do that, and then they go out and they spend
money on a three year deal to get Malik Willis
to reunite with the Packers brass that was in Green
Bay with him over the past couple of years. And
(02:10):
then Tua ends up in Atlanta signing a one year
deal with the Falcons to compete there, So a couple
of lefties going at it. So with that on the table,
where should we start sort of dissecting this entire situation
in Miami in Atlanta?
Speaker 3 (02:27):
I mean, well, why don't we just pick one?
Speaker 4 (02:30):
I'd look at it and say this, when's the last
time we've ever seen two lefties on a roster together
in the NFL?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Oh, we were naming off lefties, but I've never thought
to name off two lefties on the same team. I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
So do you know how many and this is according
to my sources at Wikipedia, do you know how many lefties?
Have players actually started playing games in the NFL and
NFL history?
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Should we do prices?
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Right?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:00):
All right? Hendy lost some prices right left the edition
left right?
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Excuse me not starting just had played in an NFL game.
So even even like a backup coming.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
In Okay, I'm gonna say twenty nine. No, okay, okay, no, LeVar,
I don't want to say like.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
It's twelve.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
There's a big discrepancy between you two. I mean it's
actually thirty three. I get ye have played the games
in NFL history so Jonas wins that one, and then
I think that many I thought, like with my reaction,
maybe it would have been like, oh okay, he's like Jonas.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Is summer close, all right?
Speaker 4 (03:52):
How many times have we seen two left handed quarterbacks
on the same rush. Now, this, I believe, based on
my research, is for like, you know, what's for getting
in the season, not like right now once you're getting
the season.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
I'm trying to think wherever where would an overlad I'm
going with never that that was my initial thought would
be never. But I'll say.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
One, LeVar Arrington, You're right, damn it.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
This never happened. Never happened.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
According to Jack Rock, Wikipedia did the different sources.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Never happened.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Now, if you're the Falcons and you're really about setting
trends and you want to take this even further and
put this out of reach, if you want to put
this lefty lead out of reach, more, go get Dylan Gabriel.
Come on, he's not competing for that job in Cleveland.
Like what are we talking about here?
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Like what.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Mary kay Cappit says he's got no shot getting the
job there, So what are we doing here? Let's just
load up on lefties in Atlanta. Why not?
Speaker 4 (04:58):
It does make sense though, right like wrought up with
the lefties and just like build the offense that way,
then every single receiver everyone's pass catch and they just
you know, they adjust to it.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Do you believe that that's is that a real thing
that maybe they looked at this and said, because two
is a lefty, this would make some sense to bring
him in with Michael Pennix Junior. Since we are all.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
I mean, dude, look, I know we want to give
to a hard time.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
I'm sure you guys all saw the tweet that went
out about his house went up for sale, the blue
tent on the NFL so no one bedroom, one bathroom,
seventy two thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
We all want to make jokes about it. But he
started and played. He was a good quarterback. I mean,
he's got a winning record. If we're going to use
that as a barometer for success. He's a two touchdown
to one interception ratio. You know, player completes a high
percentage of his balls. It's just it's unfortunate he can't
stay healthy and at least has a hard time staying healthy.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
And then I think we looked at it and say.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
When he does get in the big games, do we
really expect him to be able to compete with some
of the best in the league.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
So that being said, I don't hate the strategy.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
You know, as far as hey, we've got pen exel
sity we have in him, why don't we give to
an opportunity to come out here? And you know, if
if he plays well, it's a one year deal, he'll
re up and get paid for more. But I think
it makes some sense for a number of reasons, at
least for Atlanta. I'm not sure it does for anyone else.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
But for Atlanta, I would have just rolled into the sunset.
If I was to take my take my money, take
my brain, and and go go live my life. They
gave you an out. I knew that wasn't feasible to
think that that would be the end. And just maybe,
(06:55):
I mean, what we've seen in terms of the injuries,
the hid injuries that he has sustained, I mean, maybe
he has fully recovered. If that's even possible. I don't
know if that's possible, but I just in my mind
that's just what I felt. But I feel almost like
the more I've been thinking about it since he was
(07:16):
released and since he was signed to the Falcons. The
more I think about it, it's like, again, it's interesting
because the focal, the focal attention that was given, the
media coverage and attention that was given to it, it
almost maybe it almost I don't want to say overblew
(07:39):
it because it's a very serious injury to sustain, but
guys sustain concussions more than what people could ever imagine
or realize, and they're playing. I just think the the
lasting images of him when he got those concussions make
(08:01):
me feel like, why keep going? If you're making that
amount of money that you're guaranteed to get, why even
keep going? But I mean, I guess it's a silly
question just to assume that you know someone who wants
to compete, and Tua wants to compete and probably is
still good enough to be a starter. I'm not so
sure that too isn't a better quarterback than Michael Pennix,
(08:23):
to be honest, even even where he's at right now.
So maybe it's a good move for Atlanta. I just
just find myself. Maybe I'm just guilty of finding myself
with that shock value of seeing that image and that
image over and over and over again of his fingers
and the way he stayed on the ground or tried
(08:45):
to get up off of the ground. It just, you know,
it just made me feel like maybe that's something that
he should have seriously considered.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
And he I mean, he got the deal from the
Dolphins after I think at least one of the cushions.
So that was and he had the injury history in
Atlanta with with Alabama as well too, So he came
in and there was already a concern about his health
and whether or not he was going to be available
and long term durability, and the Dolphins still gave him
(09:15):
the contract. I just I don't, you know, I don't
think he's wired that way. I think he wants to play.
He's probably got a lot to prove. Clearly, it was
his time was over in Miami, and I think, look,
I don't know what happened last year. There's a lot
of explaining that needs to be done in Miami last year,
the Mike McDaniel, the benching him and firing the GM
(09:39):
and all the other things that went on. But I
look at it and I'm really fascinated to see what
Tua can do because there's a lot of talent in Atlanta.
Kevin Stefanski's done good things with quarterbacks before. And if
you're the Falcons and you can get him at a
low rate because Miami's on the hook for the rest
of it. I'm really intrigued to see how this, how
this works and that division. Who's to say he doesn't
(10:02):
step in and all of a sudden becomes potentially, you know,
the guy in that division that we look at and go,
maybe that's the best quarterback they got there, Like he
could be the best quarterback in that division. It's possible.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
I'm not going that far.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Why let's go far.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
I think Baker Bayfield is the best quarterback that division
right now.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Now, I'll say this, he does have talent around him.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
There will be a system in place that again it's
he'll be easy for Penix or to a play in.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
But I just don't know. I think the Bucks to
be are.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
You know, still the top team in that division at least,
you know, looking at what they have now. The Saints
they've spent spend a lot of money too, and try
to make some moves to this offseason. It'll be interesting
to see what they turn in to be. But look,
the Falcons, it's kind of wild to think about what
they went through to get to this point. I mean,
(10:53):
they signed Kirk Cousins to basically, you know, one hundred
million dollars deal guaranteed that portion of the contract to basically,
you know, play them a little bit and then bench
them and then have PANICX, you know, get drafted to
then find themselves now with two on the roster. It's like,
(11:15):
I don't know the whole thought process behind behind all that.
Obviously is why you know, Rahie Morris isn't there anymore. Obviously,
their their front office has changed over as well. I
just I look back at that decision and think they
essentially had a one year opportunity to hit and run
with that. And what's kind of surprising about it is
(11:36):
you knew you had to address the quarterback position. Remember
they had Desben Ritter and watching rhetor You're like, all right,
like this isn't really going to go anywhere, So they
needed to address it. They addressed it in two ways,
but clearly Arthur Blank wasn't on board with how that
was working out. So now we find ourselves in this situation,
and I'd ask you guys this, but the Falcons better off,
(11:59):
like you, I feel better about the Falcons today with
two in Pennix that you deal with Cousins in Pennix.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
No, No, I do not. I like their coach better.
I like Stefanski better. But and I still look at it,
and there's a lot of untapped potential. There's a ton
of talent there. What would I mean, their win total
on DraftKings right now is set at seven and a half.
We already got win totals coming out in the NFL,
(12:27):
So we're looking at a seven and a half win
total for the Falcons. Feels about right there. But yeah,
it seems like with Cousins, at least there was somewhat
of a familiarity there with the offensive Cousins played well
times with Atlanta, but I just wonder coaching staff wise,
And LeVar pointed this out, and I'm surprised he hasn't
(12:49):
taken the full victory lap yet that there might have
been some issues there in Atlanta offensively. And so now
you bring in Tua who's trying to re spark his career.
Michael Pennix Junior is banged up. I don't know it
seems like probably better off with Kirk Cousins, but better
head coach in my mind, with Kevin Stevanski than Raheem Morris.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
I like Tommy Reese as well, you know, And and
they got Olbricks as a defensive coordinator. He's a fine
defensive coordinator. I think this Atlanta Falcon team is better
off today than what they've were before because I do
believe that. I do believe that Stefanski, the type of
(13:33):
person he is, the type of coach that he is,
He's more of a player coach. Olbrick is definitely a
player's coach. I mean, he's a former player himself. It just,
you know, to me, I think it shapes up to
be a good situation for them in Atlanta. It was
a toxic situation there. I know that for a one
(13:54):
hundred percent fact from from things that I heard direct
and it wasn't you know it. Really the way it
was presented to me was there was an opportunity for
Raheem Morris to advocate and step in and try to
(14:15):
kind of mend fences and cool things down and get
people on the same page. And it didn't happen. And
so for one reason or another, it was a pretty volatile,
a volatile environment in terms of the way the OC
(14:36):
was communicating with his players, and guys were tuning out
and dialing out and checking out. I don't think that's
going to be the case with this group. It's interesting, though.
I did think to myself, with this team, this outfit
in particular, even Kirk Cousins, would it have been different,
a different result had they went with Bill Belichick instead
(14:58):
of Raheem Morris. I thought that's what you were going
to ask. Would they have been better off? Would they
even be here right now with TUA if they had
hired Bill Belichick for their head coach? That's why. And
I thought it was an interesting tale. And listen to
the way he did at North Carolina. Maybe that that
doesn't vote well for the argument, but geez, there's the
(15:19):
possibility that he might have did better at the pro level.
You know. I don't know, but I think they're in
a better situation with Stefanski at at the HELM, So
I'm interested to see how good they will be.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Here's the one thing I'd say about that, like I
don't know one hundred percent, Like how much I understand
there could have been some things that you've heard from
some guys and all that stuff. I just from being
around the team and all that, you didn't really get
a sense of it. You know, they lost of what
their eight and nine last year. Of their nine losses,
five of them came with one score. I mean, it
(15:54):
wasn't like this team wasn't close. I think if if
you look at some of the issues that they had,
you kind of had a back and forth there with
the quarterback spot too. Once Cousins got in, Cousins actually
helped them win more games. I mean they finished on
a four game win streak. They won five of their
last seven. You know it really you know, besides the
Seattle game, which got out of hand down the stretch,
(16:16):
the only one you kind of look at and go, oh,
that's that didn't look good was you know, losing the
Jets in New York as bad as the Jets.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
That was kind of a tight game too that they
gave away.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
So you know, offensively speaking, look, they are fourteenth in
yards and I think we can we can debate about
kind of maybe how things were communicated, maybe what things said,
but like they got the best out of Kyle Pitts
that he was playing some of the best football we've
ever seen a wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
They were banged up.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
I mean, Moody was kind of in and out and
never really got healthy and found his stride. London was
solid when he was in there, but he was a
bit banged up to deal with in the issue. I mean,
the one thing you can hang your hat on and
say is like Bjeon Robinson was an absolute stud and
they leaned on him, and you know, he became a
guy who we kind of talked about maybe should get
(17:03):
more discussion for Offensive Player of the Year, but wasn't
going to get it because the record was eight nine.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
I mean, I think this was a team that you know,
underachieved based on again what they did two years prior
with the quarterback position, probably some of what they'd spent
to to try to sure up that defense. I think
if there was, like again, something that was a little
bit more surprising was defensively, they just they never really
became kind of what you thought they could become. You know,
(17:33):
Raheem Morris and I've said this before, if you look
at his track record when he's got there with teams,
I actually did like a breakdown of this, he's never
made a defense better, Like he keeps getting hired and
the defense the year before is actually better than what
it was when he gets there, you know, and it
takes it. So it's it's it's interesting to see him
(17:55):
and how he's continually gotten hired. I understand why he's,
you know, a good guy. You taught to him. He
knows ball and he connects well with players. That doesn't
necessarily always lead to results, but if you go the
track record of him as best coordinator, it's it's kind
of interesting.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
It's it's like it's.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Never really worked out where it's they've been better off
afterwards after hiring.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Him, Surprised by the Malik will As signing in Miami
or do we want to want to save.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
This for after the Let's save it for the for
the Yeah, let's save it for the next segment. I
think there's enough there to kind of take it into
an entire segment.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Yeah, there's there's a lot so and a lot to
a lot to discuss NFL wise and some other things.

Nice job, Joe Davis.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Yeah you did.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
I was gonna say, how that? How did that work out? There?
Speaker 2 (21:40):
For?
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Then lost there? Johnny's Little league practice. Tried to avoid
it at all costs.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Really stay, were they that big in than the Baseball Classic?
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Not really, but I was. I was surprised watching the game.
It felt like that looked like a at least a
fifty to fifty, if not more more Mexicans and Americans
in attendance watching that game, or at least they were
just more decked out because they had you know, they
had the Mexican cleats, they had the cowboy hats, they
(22:11):
had all sorts of stuff. It felt like a real,
real party, felt like I felt like something going on
at the in laws every single weekend.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Well, let me ask you this, like, why are you
surprised that it was fifty to fifty? I mean, is
there a certain reason why they're they shouldn't be fifty fifteen?
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Well, no, I just think that, Yeah, it's in Texas,
it's in Houston. I would just assume that there would
be more Americans there.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Oh is that what you were going with? I thought
you were hit in a different direction there.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
Well.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
Yeah, like I was gonna say, why do you feel
like there'd be you don't feel like there's enough people
who want to support Mexicans.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
No, that's not what I'm saying. I know that they
they did very well against Brazil and that was basically
a ninety nine to one split. There might have been
you know, fifteen twenty Brazilians there. I just assumed that
there would be more of more of an American crowd
there and there wasn't you know, they showed out and
they played well, you know, they kind of stayed in
(23:05):
that game, but Matthew Boyd gave up a couple of bombs.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Not if we keep uh you know, maybe if the
USA keeps this going, maybe they're you know, they don't
be able.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
To keep getting more fans.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
I think they got the Eye Ties tonight. If I'm
not mistaken, I think the US plays it.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
That's a win. That's a win.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Geez, well, no, faith.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
I mean how many great a time baseball player Joe DiMaggio.
Who else? We got.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Piazza?
Speaker 1 (23:33):
I think that's a good.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Mike Piazza who apparently you know who just had an
issue with him.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Shilah Buff.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Yeah, Shiloh Buff.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
That tool with everybody.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
Yeah, you've got too. How many are they're great at time?
I got Anthony Rizzo. One one is Conseco Italian. No,
he's Cuban's well ends.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
At a vowe. We should probably strot it in there anyway.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Not take what you said.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
It's Portuguese, Okay, take it back off the list. He's Portuguese,
the name is Portuguese.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
But Aaron Nola is a pitcher on the team. Okay,
there's that Nolan Aeronato.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Okay, yeah, he's good. He's a good player.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Yeah, he's probably gonna be a Hall of I'm.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
Just saying, like, I'm not sure. I'm not sure that
they're gonna uphill battle in this one.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Some of the some of the Brazilian they.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Would be best suited by making a nice dish of
chicken palm before the meal, to try to fill up
those USA and try to make it harder for them
to win this game.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Maybe the bat's a little bit slower.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
Some of the Brazilian guys are construction workers, Anthony Rizzo
I said. Rizzo said, Yeah, some of the Brazilian guys
were construction and this is just their one chance to
to be on a roster and play against major leaguers.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Yeah, kind of.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
It's a fun event though every three years.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
I like the Olympics. That just went back right, kind
of like that. So who's the who's the Canada to USA?
And Baseball Mexico Mexico. Yeah, so they already slate that
dragon this Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Randy rose Arena from Mexico went to shake cow Rawley's
hand during the game, and he just said.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Noah, I'm good the big dumper.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Yeah. I thought it would have been like Japan, Like,
aren't they the ones that win the Little League all
the time?
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Yeah, I mean they'll sneak in a twenty five year old.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Well, I mean, whatever it is, I don't think that's
Japan dude, I feel like that's your No.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Chinese Daniel Monty was not Japanese.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Okay, Chinese type. Ai had had a couple of guys that.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
I mean, if you want me to tell you what
I really think it is, I think they hit puberty
and there's only so many, you know, so many Atashi's
out there, you know.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Yeah, he don't look like he's from anywhere, like he
was genetic. He's yeah, yeah, he looks like one of
those new diamonds. Yeah yeah, all right.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Well wait, we have this conversation with Lorena by the way,
that she wanted a real diamond, a lab grown. Wasn't
that the conclusion we came to, Oh wow, oh.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Isn't that what you said?
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Then we asked you, like, well, what about like the
blood that would be on your hands, and you said
you'd be okay with that.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
I don't remember this conversation.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
I feel like I had this conversation.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
I remember, I remember something kind of vague, but I don't.
I don't know totally if that was was that Lorena
that we had that discussion with. I don't know. I
don't know. I'm trying to trying to think back. I
vaguely remember that, but yeah, who knows.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Well.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Listen, now, the WBC is a fun event. It's a
damn good time. I encourage everybody to watch it if
you can, you know, go gamble your ass off, do
what you gotta do, because it probably beats watching the
Dolphins over the past number of years, outside of a
couple of playoff appearances. The Miami Dolphins, though, have found
(27:17):
their new quarterback. It cost them ninety nine million dollars
to say goodbye to their other one from a dead
cap standpoint, but they did bring in Malik Willis. They're
familiarity there with the Green Bay Packer brass that is
now in Miami. He gets a three year deal. We're
sixty seven million dollars in change, forty five million dollars guaranteed.
Malik Willis. Pete Prisco's a huge fan of him. He's
(27:40):
got six career starts and now he's got forty five
million guaranteed coming from the Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
All Right, can I ask this?
Speaker 2 (27:47):
I pay? Is number two? By the way, Little League
World Series, Jay's type type USA? Is it a number one? Actually?
Japan and South Korea are in there though, But go ahead,
what what's the question I pay?
Speaker 4 (27:59):
The question is gonna be do the Dolphins know what
they've gotten out a quarterback? More so than they did
let's say three weeks ago when when Tua was presumed
to be the starter.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
No, it's a bigger question mark to me, it's a
bigger Malik Willis is. Again. I made the point yesterday,
I'm not certain what I know. He had success in
a little bit of the debuts that he had in
Green Bay, and and it's a great feel good story,
(28:33):
but does it deserve the amount of fanfare? I almost
feel like this is a got ahead of ourselves type
of situation. It's potentially not a good situation, but it
could be a great situation. I just don't I'm not.
I think there's more question marks with Malik Willis. And
(28:56):
I even I even asked the question is the comed
And I was hoping, you know, I hoping we could
could ask you this question, Q, because you weren't on
was does his contract scream we're committed to you as
the starter? Because I don't. I don't think that the
numbers is we're committed to you as the starting quarterback.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
For the for this year. I think it does, you know,
I think it does for.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
One year, and then it's kind of a reevaluate at
that point and the team has control for another two years.
So that's how I'd look at this. You know that
the total guaranteed is not a significant amount, and I
say that in comparison to what starting quarterbacks are at
this point, but it does for sure give them the
with the transaction that's taking place, you know, maybe they're
(29:43):
releasing to a and the dead cap that's over the
next two years, and then what they're going to be
paying him at least in a signing bonus for a
twenty two and a half million and total guaranteed for
forty five. This is a good deal. It's a good
deal for Milike Willis. It's a it's a good opportunity
for Milike Willis. But in reality, it is a one
year deal. It is a one year Let's see what
(30:03):
we've gotten him and then we will reevaluate into twenty
twenty seven. And I got to tell you, if you're
gonna move on in this way, I kind of love it.
I kind of love everything about this. And this is
why you know what you have in that quarterback. Who's
the head coach, Jeff Affley, where do you just come
from Green Bay? Who do you watch every single day?
(30:27):
Go against his defense? Malik Willis. He's watched him since
he's been there, so he knows what he's got in
his quarterback. He's watched it every single day in practice.
What we don't see, what he's been able to see.
And then you've got a general manager who sees the
same thing, and he knows what he's like, and he
knows that they're trying to build a certain culture that
he's going to bring what they're trying to bring from
Green Bay to Miami to try to start this and
(30:49):
get this thing head in the right direction. And what
I love about all of this is he's compensated fairly
and it's like a deal really for one.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Year where he's the guy, no if ans.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Or butts, But if things don't go well after this year,
and let's say they're drafting someone in the top ten.
You best believe, you best believe they're going to draft
the first round quarterback, start this thing over again. And
they've got Malik Willis in there for a year where
they don't have to worry about playing that rookie. They
(31:20):
can do exactly what they do in Green Bay, which
is draft the guy, let him sit and watch, and
eventually he takes over. That's what this contract speaks. That's
what this move means to me of what they're trying
to accomplish in Miami. And I gotta say I love it.
I love it for their future quarterback in twenty twenty seven,
(31:41):
and I love it for Milik Willis too, at least
in the short term for him to get a shot
at age twenty seven. And if things do go really well,
they can move on from him.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
And they can. They can. You know, he'll get paid
somewhere else.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
They'll get draft capital in exchange because they love the
guy behind them, or even if they you know, I mean,
look with Jor Love. They moved on from a first
ball Hall of Fame in Rogers or excuse me, you know,
to get the Jordan love. And I don't know that
we knew that much about Jordan Love, but we do
now and we clearly think now he's going to be
a guy. So that's the history of what's happened in
Green Bay. I think they're trying to mimic that in Miami.
(32:16):
That's that's what I think.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Yeah, because I think John Eric Sullivan, the serial killer name.
He mentioned that in his opening press conference where he
talked about, you know, we come from Green Bay, you know,
with quarterback play and whatnot, and sort of how that
process has worked where they had a guy, drafted a guy,
developed him and turned it into that And so this
is basically a one year give the guy an opportunity.
(32:40):
If it works, great, If not, next year is the
quarterback draft class you want to be involved in, and
we'll just take our shot there.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
So base, So it's draft next year, not in this year.
If there's a quarterback available in this year draft no, no, okay, I.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Mean they might take one this year, but it's not
gonna be first round. I guarantee you, with as many
guys as there will be in twenty twenty seven, I
would not be shocked if they didn't take one.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
So you're it's not he's not in the mix of this.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
I don't think so when you signed on Mille Quillis, Wow,
and think about it.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
This is it.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
This is it what they're doing with their quarterback situation,
Like this is there. They won't do anything more this year.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
They might add somewhere else, but it's Millie Quillis's job
when you and you pay him a total guarantee to
forty five million after just you know, deciding to move
on from Tua.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Yeah, all right, you seem really under them.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
No, I'm just no, I'm just I'm just asking just just.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
That, and and and again, like I again, I love
this if this is what they're setting up to do.
I love this for Miami and trying to find their guy.
I really do. And look, there could be a scenario
that plays out similar to Rogers and Jordan Lover. Rodgers
is playing so well or Milick Willis is playing so
well in this case that they have to do a
(33:59):
short term extent with whoever that quarterback they draft to be.
But I'm telling you they're gonna take one in twenty
twenty seven. Do not be surprised by it. It's the
playbook that Green Bay has done with Brett Faravan, Rodgers
Rogers to Jordan Love and they're trying to implement this.
They're trying to find a way to find their next
Dan Marino. That's what they're looking at trying and do.
(34:21):
And so this sets them up for that in every way,
capable to be competitive out the gate with Malik Willis
if he continues to build off what he's done so
far last a few starts, but also for the future
and building whatever that next you know, next version is
going to.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Be the Dolphins were seven and three, the Jets worth
three and fourteen. Who has the better record next year?
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Dolphins were seven to three, you said, or seven and ten,
seven and ten, Jets worth three and fourteen? Oh, Dolphins,
Dolphins will finish higher than the Jets next Oh. Yeah,
like you could give me, like you can give me
a make believe team, I'd say they'd finished better than the.
Speaker 5 (35:01):
Two years knocks locks.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
The Jets are making some pretty aggressive moves.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
Man, all right, they are quarterback. Have they done anything yet?
Speaker 2 (35:10):
No? They have not.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
Yeah, that's a problem. And then also here's the other
issue with like the league.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
And to me, it's if Aaron Glenn, if they get
off to a bad start, you know exactly what the
conversation is gonna be, and every player on that locker
room's gonna say, I need to go find a life
raft to preserve myself because this coach is gonna get eclipped,
and now I got to make sure that I'm healthy
for that next season in twenty twenty seven, whereas you're not.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
I don't think you're gonna see Jeffley get a one
and done year.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Like, I don't think it's gonna one year if things
start off slow or they struggle out the gate. So
I think because of that too, that plays a bit
of a factor, where Like I don't think they're that
far apart, to be honest, but I do feel like
if the season starts, starts off poorly, and you hear
the boo birds, and you hear the calls to fire
(35:59):
Aaron Glenn, and after what happened last year, it just
you know, players are going to start like, hey, I mean,
you know how many guys play through surgeries and then
they finally eventually get.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Them once they get to the end of the season. Well,
not usually the case when the coaches, you know, on
the chopping block.
Speaker 1 (36:15):

sports or entertainment. Good thing the guys are here to
bring you in case you missed it.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
Guys, we chronicled this situation in the world of sports
extremely disappointing result. We opened up a couple of weeks
ago discussing the fact that on March sixteenth, the Atlanta
Hawks were planning a Magic City Night to celebrate the
Fame Strip Club. There was going to be everything from
Lemon Pepper wings named after Hawks guard Lou Williams who
(37:55):
left the NBA Covid bubble to go get himself some
wings and just the wings. Allegedly, Ti the Rapper was
set to perform, and then Luke Cornette of the San
Antonio Spurs spoke about his displeasure with this, and so
the NBA has stepped in and they have canceled Magic
(38:19):
City Night. Oh Man Adam Silver, the commissioner of the
NBA who found something to do, said quote. When we
became aware of the Atlanta hawks scheduled promotion, we reached
out to Hawk's leadership to better understand their plans and rationale.
While we appreciate the team's perspective and their desire to
move forward, we have heard significant concerns from a broad
(38:41):
array of league stakeholders, including fans, partners, and employees. I
believe canceling this promotion is the right decision for the
broader NBA community. Now the Atlanta Hawks they feel differently.
While we are very disappointed with the NBA's discis to
cancel our Magic City Night promotion, we fully respect the
(39:03):
decision as a franchise rumor and committed to celebrating the
best of Atlanta with authenticity in ways to continue to
unite and bring us all together. And the Rapper Ti
is still set to perform at this event. So just
really disappointing for I think everybody involved here that they
couldn't see the big picture here and realize this was
(39:24):
an opportunity to celebrate an establishment, a true landmark of
the city, and instead Adam Silver's got to step in
and block everybody from the good time to be had
for Magic City Night. Hope you got.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
Sanity is one out? Yes, sanity is one out. I
can't believe this got that far but.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Wild to me.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
I'm sorry, I just this is wild.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
I can't believe it needed the commissioner of a professional
sports link to shut this down.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
I'll say this, I I was shocked to hear it,
but I was not surprised. And that might sound horrible,
but I wasn't surprised. So I'll be the fact that
it's not going to happen is in this day and age,
(40:17):
need I say, I might be more surprised that it
didn't happen versus this conversation taking place and better judgment,
you know, taking shape.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
I was just gonna ask you, what are you more
surprised at the fact that the Hawks thought this was
a good idea or the fact that it got canceled.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Because I think it's more surprising that they canceled it.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
I can't believe that the Hawks actually thought this was
going to go through. Hey, nobody's paying attention. Don't worry
about it. The only time anybody's watching these meaningless games
like Hawks Magic on a weeknight is when Terry Rozier
is betting on him. Other than that, who cares. And
they probably thought they could slide it through, celebrate a
(41:00):
a local establishment and next thing, you know, Adam Silver
steps right in and cancels the whole damn thing a
because Luke Cornett started shooting his mouth off on some
social media platform for it. So that's unfortunate. H And
we we want to apologize to anybody who was really
fired up about the March sixteenth game that they were
(41:20):
that they were going to be attending, and then the
fact that the Hawks came out with a statement saying
they're disappointed by the decision. So but at least t
I is going to be there, So at least there's that,
all right, And they are going to sell the lemon
pepper wings. I want all the wings.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
All right.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
I mean that's the and some ranch you get surprised
that Lorraino is okay with this event and this idea
from the I love strippers all chicken wings too.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
That says a lot, right,
