That way, it's gonna pop up at the top of
your screen, all right. B So we didn't even talk
about all three games from Thursday in the first hour
of the program. We didn't talk about the opener. We
didn't talk about the Lions in division losing at home
(01:41):
to the Green Bay Packers, a team that I was
just kind of watching crumble before my eyes over the
last month or so in terms of how I felt
about them, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
And even though like from a completion percentage standpoint, it
wasn't a great day for Jordan Love otherwise it was
But is this game more to you about the Packers
(02:03):
and what they did? Or is it more about the
Lions and increasing questions about another team that entered the
season with championship dreams.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Man, it's certainly a blend to me. I think it
was more about the Lions, sort of like the chiefs
of the NFC, you know, right, Like there are plays
to be made. Jamison Williams is wide open throw an
accurate past year at Goff's probably gonna be a touchdown
and a key moment, you know what I mean. And
it's just an off target throw. It's a play that
(02:35):
should have been made that wasn't made. Like the Lions
are doing that far too often. And it's weird with
the Packers, right, I agree with you. Where the last
month and a half, there's been a lot of games
where you're like, yuck, Like you're losing at home to
the Panthers, You're scoring seven points against the Eagles. You know,
(02:55):
like if you give up ten points defensively, that should
be a win every time. And with as much talent
as the Packers have, even in spite of the injuries, like,
the results just haven't been there. And then yesterday it's
like take that, Lions. You know, we're just gonna sweep you.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
How about that?
Speaker 5 (03:13):
And now they're in a great position. If the fools
gold Bears start to head south, which I think they will,
the Packers are in a great spot to win that division.
And if you're able to do that, you're probably gonna
be a three seed in the NFC. You know, playoff picture,
that's a big deal. It's a huge win for them.
So it's a hybrid, right. It says a lot about
the Packers maybe being on track now, maybe being able
(03:36):
to emerge in that division.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
But it also it shows that the Lions.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
You see their talent at times, you see Jamir Gibbs
just pop on your screen, and then you see plays
that aren't made, golf struggles with pressure in his face,
and you see their limitations collectively, you know, like that's
where the Lions are this year.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Yeah, and as aggressive as Dan Campbell has been, Brian
I also is kind of stunned with the clock management
in the fourth quarter. It just didn't seem like there
was a sense of urgency, like whether or not you
were gonna go ahead and kick the field goal, you
were gonna need a touchdown at some point. Anyway, I'm
gonna whatever. You can go ahead and go for the
touchdown that situation if you want, But why are we
(04:16):
draining the play clock and waiting forever and then handing
the ball off to David Montgomery, Like I'm not sure
what we're doing here, Like you have five minutes left
in your down double digits, you only have three timeouts.
That's a maximum, Dan, Just in case you had forgotten,
I don't. I did not understand the thought process there.
It seemed to me like they didn't understand they were
(04:37):
behind because they were playing like a team that was
trying to hang on not win.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
I don't get teams that do that right where it's like,
why why don't we pick up the pace a little
bit here?
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Yeah? Why are we huddling up?
Speaker 5 (04:48):
I always think of I think it's Troy Aikman who
says it where he's like he always points out the
little sugar huddle right where it's kind of like a
half huddle, but quick, you know, you huddle up and
you call the play and you get go into the
line of scrimmage. You got some some urgency to you.
They didn't even have that. This is like a regular huddle.
It's like, guys, you need two scores. You're down by ten,
(05:09):
and like if they could have just gotten a stop,
then they they probably had plenty of time where the
Packers went for it on fourth and three and showed
some guts and it was a beautiful throw and catch
by by Wicks. To you put that game on ice,
and I love that like that. That's like an old
Chiefs thing, you know, where you're throwing to win. You're aggressive,
(05:32):
You're not trying you know, you're aggressive trying to win
the game. You're not trying to avoid losing it, you know.
So I love how aggressive the Packers were at the
end there, going forward on fourth and three. They executed it,
they put the game away. If the Packers, you know,
don't execute that, well, all of a sudden, the lines
are down, you know, one score with the ball, chance
(05:54):
to tie things up, and it didn't happen. Man, lines
just couldn't get a stop. But I'm with you. I
hate when when offenses are just like, yeah, you know,
it's uh, we're down to like minus four minutes here
in the game, but we're still taking our time.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
I don't get that at all. Doesn't make sense. No,
I was.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
I was just kind of shocked by it as a
matter of fact. And then there were a couple of
moments yesterday where I again was just like, man, Jameson
Williams is infuriating because Jamison Williams does some absolutely extraordinary
stuff on the field, and you see the talent just
leap off the page. You talked about Jamiir Gibbs, Like
Jamiir Gibbs is like a blur. But James and Williams
(06:32):
and what he's doing, like certain plays you just see
it in him. But then he can't get out of
his own way, Like we're spinning the ball after the
first down right in the face of the defender. We're
doing eight like And we've had a couple of these
moments during the course of the season as well with
him as and I understand, you got to play on
an edge, and that's probably one of the things that
makes him so great. As did, he's so close to
(06:54):
being over the it so often. I understand the competitive
streak and all this did we got a rain this
in man, like, we are too talented to be doing this.
These aren't the things we need to do, Like James
and Williams and George Pickens are similar in that way
to me that Pickens couldn't get out of his own
way a lot of times. It felt like in Pittsburgh
they've kind of reined it in a little bit in Dallas. Yeah,
(07:16):
Like he's been a much better teammate. He's been an
excellent pickup for them. They need to figure out whatever
is happening with James and Williams in Detroit and just
kind of save him from himself a little bit here
because he's just he has a tendency to do some
things that are going to be detrimental to your football team.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
Man, dude, you read my mind right there. You know
you took the words out of my mouth.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
You stole my words. J Martin, you know, losing another.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Job, that's right. You thought the stealing was over. Now
you's got news for you. It's still here, man, it's present.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Uh No.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
It does really remind me of Steelers George Pickens right
where you see the talent, but you also see the
immaturity and and really if you think about the team
how they align as well. Think about the Steelers with Pickens,
they were always just sort of okay ish. They're good ish,
but they're not good enough to really make serious noise
(08:12):
in the playoffs. That's probably where the Lions are right now.
They're a team that's fighting for their playoff lives. They're
trying to, you know, compete for the division. They're trying
to at least be a wild card team, and they're
in these dog fight games where it's like bro not
the time or place. It's one thing, if you're you know,
boat racing teams by three four touchdowns, you want to
(08:33):
spin the ball, it really doesn't register the same way.
But when you're in a dog fight against the divisional rival,
it is not the time or place to do it,
you know. And it's just like he doesn't have a
feel for that, and yeah, you're right, man. It's kind
of like nets Kyrie or something like that.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
It's like, you can't just.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Create drama for yourself. The NFL is hard enough. It's
hard enough to win games. There are hurdles in front
of you all over the place. You can't set hurdles
in front of yourself, and they are far too many
times Jamison does that.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
So one guy that is not setting hurdles for himself
is Michaeh Parsons. Micah Parsons yesterday, throughout his great but
yesterday there's just like as good as Dallas is right now,
the Cowboys fans still have to be just biting through
their lip, like watching that and knowing how good he
(09:26):
is now, they may be better off in the long
term because of other things and all this. They weren't
winning when he was there. I understand this, but Michaeh.
Parsons is a mutant. Like what he was doing yesterday,
Jared Goff didn't look comfortable at all. It's not like
he was in his face all day, but he was
in his face enough. And it doesn't take a lot
to make Jared Goff look a little less than comfortable.
(09:47):
Michael Parsons just looked like he was on a completely
different wavelength than everyone else playing football that I saw yesterday.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
You know what's funny is it makes me think of
the Eagles last year. If you do like an Eagles
Packers comparison, or think of this and it ties to
Michael Parsons because I agree with you. The guy is
a freak show man. And I mean that in the
most complimentary way. That dude is just we always talk
about Havoc when it comes to defenses, like Havoc plays,
(10:19):
you know, like are you able to wreak Havoc? That's
what he is able to do. He is Havoc in
human form. That dude is a nuisance man. He is disruptive.
But you know what's funny is think about last year
where there were a lot of you know, there were
a lot of comments about man, this Nick Sirianni guy. Man,
(10:39):
I mean he might be on the way out here.
This team is far too talented, and where are the results,
you know? And then all of a sudden boom they
won a super Bowl and there were some Matt Lafleur
you know talks there.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
There was some murmurs. Love the murmurs over here, j K.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
Right, which fun, That's right, there was some murmurs a
couple of weeks ago where it may make sense. You
look at the Packers. They get off to a great start.
They smack around the Lions in week one, they win
decisively against the Washington Washington Commanders in week two, and
they were the toast of the NFL.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Man, it was just Packers, Packers, Packers. Oh this dant Packers, Packers.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
And then they leveled off for many weeks in a row,
and it was just like, man, this Matt Lafleur guy, like,
what are they doing? Scoring thirteen at home against the Panthers,
seven at home against the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
He's an offensive guy. Where's the offense? You know?
Speaker 5 (11:31):
And you put all that together, blockbuster trade with Micah Parsons.
Great start, everybody's all giddy and now where are the
results here? Is he gonna get run? Is he possibly
on the hot seat? Maybe a candidate to be fired?
Wouldn't it be amazing if if they pull at Eagles
like after it wasn't crazy, It was like, man, this
guy's like a step away from the chopping block. But
(11:53):
just for people to be saying that out loud, maybe
this is the turning point for the Packers. They're certainly
talented in enough to be a major player in the NFC.
We'll see where it goes from here.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Yeah. Look, I'm not betting against Matt Lafleur. I'm thinking
Matt Lafleur is going to be there next year. But
just a reminder of the show is sponsored by DraftKings Sportsbook,
an official sports betting partner of the NFL and NBA.
Right now, use promo code two pros claim your special
offer at DraftKings. Again, that's Promo Code two pros at DraftKings.
The crown is yours. So the energy that you have
(12:25):
for Matt Lafleur, if you're out there like this, do
you have that same energy for Sean McDermott. Because Sean
McDermott's been doing this for a lot longer than Matt
Lafleur has when it comes to coming up short when
it goes to the postseason. You talked about he's an
offensive guy, they're scoring fourteen. Yeah, well, Sean McDermott's a
defensive guy and teams are running all over the Bills
defense right now. Like that's a topic that I've been
(12:47):
sore on for a while. Is and my partneron Toresident
Saturday Night's exactly the same way, like Sean McDermott, man, Like,
if it ain't this year, especially with what we talked
about an hour one with the Ravens leaking oil, the
Chiefs leaking oil, maybe both of them finding a way
to miss the playoffs. If you can't get there this year,
(13:08):
we're gonna have to do something else at head coach
in Buffalo, Like we know what we have at quarterback
up there, We're gonna need to do something else, right.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Yeah, I'm with you man.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
The way I explain it, I think of the Chiefs
that follow me on this one, right, Like it'll tie
into Matt Lafleur and also Sean McDermott. Where the Chiefs
when they had Alex Smith. They're winning games, right, like
they're in the playoffs, maybe they could get hot at
the right time, but they were like, you know what,
we want to be great. We don't want to be
just good. We want to be great. And they were aggressive.
(13:42):
They traded up, they drafted a guy named Patrick Mahomes.
They hit a Grand Slam, you know. But the point
was they weren't content with just being good. They wanted
to take the next step. They wanted to be super
Bowl contenders. They wanted to win super Bowls. And if
it's not happening in Green Bay, if it's not happening
in Buffalo, where again they're good, they're winning a bunch
(14:02):
of games, but they're not getting over the hump. They
can't even get to a super Bowl, let alone win one.
And there comes a point in time where it's just like,
all right, we need to get over the hump, and
you're not the guy to get us over the hump.
So it's time to move on. It's not saying that
Lafleur or Sean McDermott suck. It's just that they're not
(14:23):
getting them to where they're capable of going, and it's
time to move on. If it's good enough for the
Chiefs when it comes to quarterback. Why wouldn't it be
the same rationale for a team when it comes to
head coach. I think it's very similar.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Yeah, I one hundred percent do. And I think that
this is going to be the referendum year on Sean McDermott, like,
if they bring them back again next year, they still
don't make the Super Bowl. I do not see the
calculus there. So you talked about Matt Lafleur, and I
referenced it to Sean McDermott, and you had already referenced
it to Nick Sirianni. What was happening with the Eagles. Well,
we can talk about the Eagles as a matter of fact,
(14:58):
Eagles and Bears in a matchup of eight three teams
on this Black Friday wedge between some awesome college football
that we're gonna discuss as well. So we're gonna jump
into all of that. A reminder DEPEND in the Prostate
Cancer Foundation are here to remind you that health is
a long game and screening for prostate cancer easier than ever.
A simple blood test can lead to better treatment options
(15:20):
and better outcomes. Learn more at DEPEND dot com. So yeah,
plenty more ball on the other side. Plus I also
want to debate who won the halftime between the first
two per formances.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Okay, well, well John's not in the running. He's not
a candidate.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
I actually missed that, so we can add him to
the running. I didn't know what happened in the third game,
so I must have. I've got to plead ignorance.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
You know, it's funny. I'll keep this short. I know,
we gotta run.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Yeah, no, it's all good.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
It's funny because NBC for the night game, it wasn't
like the full on experience, you know, like Jack White
with center stage.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Yeah, Post Malone with center stage.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
They just kind of dropped in like Turico's like, hey,
here's a little bit of little John, and he just
sang a little bit and they're like, all right, enough
of that, let's move on.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Okay. Maybe that's how I missed it then, because I
didn't realize that it was just like a I don't know,
just a snippet of a performance there.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
So yeah, we'll talk about that.
Speaker 2 (16:17):

their family, and of course in business to take care
of this weekend. And so he's Brian, now I'm Jason Martin.
We're in having a blast with you this morning, all right.
(17:46):
So Jack White and Eminem in Detroit and then Post
Malone in Dallas. I think it probably comes down to generationally,
for like Post Mallen was performing while I was eating
Thanksgiving dinner wasn't loud, So I don't know exactly what
to say there. I'm a huge Jack White fan. My
wife and I both are. We've seen him multiple times
(18:07):
together and just a huge fan. Plus you know, Nashville
and Third Man Records are right here in our town.
And so I thought that performance was phenomenal, Like it
was so tight because you had this shorter, normal halftime
and then for Eminem to just pop up there in
the middle do do some killer stuff and then them
(18:27):
just finish it off with seven Nation Army. I thought
that was a really really solid halftime performance.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
I did too. I enjoyed it. I liked it.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
I love how he for seven Nation Army grabbed the
weird guitar. YEA like this, like I don't know what
was going on with that. It's like this old school.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Almost like gretch guitar.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
It was a.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
Yeah, it's kind of like a hybrid, like it looks
like an acoustic but clearly was not. But yeah, man,
like Jack White, he rocks out, man, that dude, and
you could feel it right and he just fit. He
fit with that city, you know, that performance fit with
that that whole vibe. And it was cool to see
Eminem do his thing for a little bit a post
(19:07):
Malone I like a lot of post Malone stuff. It
was weird. It was almost like a karaoke version. What's
the kind of like the the country slash pop hit.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
That he has?
Speaker 5 (19:19):
They closed with that, but he was like I can't
remember off the top of my head.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
And my mother in law asked us, like, did he
start out as a country artist? I said no, No,
Like he's kind of mixed in some genres here and there,
Like he's shown some you know, he's he's kind of
got a wide range in terms of what he likes
and what.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
He's inspired by.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
But a lot of what I thought he was doing,
at least from what I heard, Brian was not the
malone that I'm more used to.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
Yeah, No, he was good, he was all right. It
was definitely more of a country flavor.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
And I was like, did he drop drop an F bomb?
Like I rewinded it a couple of times. I'm like,
I can't well if he did or I'm not sure
if he did, But uh, it was okay. I preferred
Jack White. I think that post belone. He tried to
like tailor his show to the crowd, and that's not
(20:13):
really true to who he is.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
You know, he's he's got the.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
R and B like the rap flavor, and you didn't
get that at all in that performance. So it was
okay to me, But uh, I don't think as good
in my book as Jack White.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
I thought Jack White show was really good. Yeah I did.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
I did too, And then I didn't even know Little
John was a thing that happened in the PM.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
He could have slid in. He could have.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Slid in the Collinsworth role because he just kind of
came in so fast and then he was out apparently
like maybe he didn't even need to be on the field.
He could have just been in the booth with Turrico.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
It was almost like you know a pregame where they're
doing their pregame stuff and they're like, oh, hey, check
it out.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Here's a little taste of whoever's performing.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
Yeah, like for all the fans outside in the parking lot,
and I get like a little taste of that.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
That's what they did for Little John. They did Little
John dirty man.
Speaker 5 (21:05):
It was not like and now here is the halftime
show presented by Verizon Lil John.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
It was not like that at all.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
Tarico is like, oh, let's give you like twenty solid
seconds of Little John and move it along.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
That was completely different.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
So this afternoon we got two eight and three teams.
We got the Eagles and the Bears. I'm gonna give
you I know you said this yesterday. I'm gonna give.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
You the soapbox here.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Okay, those that are Chicago fans out there, plug your ears.
Brian No does not believe in your football team.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Oh man, they're so fugazy. It's not even funny, man,
It's like they're weird. Right.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
The Bears are a team that I think are complete
and utter frauds. They haven't beaten anybody, They've beaten the Steelers.
That's the end of their resume, you know, like that,
that's not anything to write home about. It's a home
win against the Steelers, and you could look at this
and be like, hey man, but they're only allowed to
play the teams who were in front of them. Okay,
(22:04):
that only goes so far. They got blown out by
the Lions. Now that's back in week two. They lost
fifty to twenty one. J Martin like, that's what are
we doing here? They lost by two touchdowns to the Ravens.
You know, so the good teams that they've played, they
have not fared well at all. The only good win
they have and it's kind of like you know in
(22:24):
quotes is against the Steelers with Mason rum backup quarterback. Yeah, Cowboys,
you could say that's a solid win at home, but
the Cowboys were not then what they are now. That
was Week three. Cowboys defense was a wreck. Remember this
true the bomb I think it was to Luther Burden.
That matter had a flea flicker in there. It's like
(22:46):
just giving up big plays left and right. So even
that has an asterisk in my mind, like you're barely
surviving against the Raiders, barely surviving against the Commanders, they
had a miracle win against the Bengals. You've had five
double digit comebacks in the fourth quarter against mostly bum teams.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Like you're just not built to last with a formula
like that. It's great that they're eight and three.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
Hey, great, I just don't think they're built to last
going forward.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Well, I mean they're already I mean, just what they've
already accomplished, they've all they've shown steps in the right direction.
Those are games they're not winning last year. Yeah, you
beat the Raiders twenty five to twenty four, you beat
the Commanders I think without Jayden Daniels twenty five to
twenty four. You win a Giants game twenty four to twenty.
You beat the Vikings by two, you beat the Steelers
by three. You're winning close games. That's not something that
(23:37):
is going to work long term. It never does year
to year. The teams that you can easily fade, or
the teams that you can say, yeah, probably not gonna
have as good a year this year's last year are
the ones they're winning those close games. It's just not
something that happens on a consistent basis. Question is going
to happen for the next, you know, eight nine weeks
for them to put themselves in a spot. They've got
(23:58):
a tough sled. It starts today at Philly, and then
it's at Green Bay and then they go to Cleveland,
and that's going to be interesting just because of the
defense and what Miles Garrett's doing, and by then what
is happening at the quarterback spot for Cleveland and is
that more difficult? But they've still got both games against
the Packers left, They've got another game against the Lions.
They've got the Niners near the end of the season
(24:21):
on the road as well. So I mean, almost nothing
they have left outside of the Browns looks particularly inviting.
So what is their record at the end of the season.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
B wow? I would say whether they eight and three
right now?
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Do you have them losing today?
Speaker 5 (24:39):
I do have them losing to Okay. I probably have
them losing next week against the Packers. Also, they might
get swept by the Packers potentially, and at the Niners
finish up with the Lions, I see at least three
losses from here on out. So I'll put them at
eleven and six.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
I mean, that's a pretty good end up.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Eleven and six, Yeah, that's pretty good year for Caleb Williams.
And that's a definite good year for Ben Johnson.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
No doubt. You would take that all day.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
If you're a Bears fan before the season started and
said hey, you're gonna go eleven and six this year,
every Bears fan'd be like, great, sign me up.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
I'll take that, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
And that's the thing is, Caleb Williams has played pretty well.
He's put up numbers that are respectable. He's only twentieth
in passer rating, but sixteen touchdowns four picks. Got to
get the completion percentage going. That's what's really hurting him.
Under sixty percent. That shouldn't be a thing in today's NFL,
but he's taken steps in the right direction. Under Ben Johnson.
(25:35):
The defense is not good, but they are fantastic at
forcing turnovers. They have twenty four takeaways this season. That's
number one in the league. That's what's interesting about today's
matchup because the Eagles are number one in giveaways. They've
only given the ball away six times this season. They
don't turn it over, So the Bears live off of
(25:59):
takeaways and the Eagles don't have many giveaways. So if
the Eagles are able to protect the football, They're not
fumbling it. Jalen Hurts has only thrown one interception. He's
so careful, right. This offense is just so careful. But
in a matchup like this against the Bears defense, which
is not good, they're giving up yards left and right.
If you're able to protect the football, I think that
(26:21):
the Bears defense is going to be in trouble here.
So I'm really excited to see how that plays out.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Three years from today. Who is the best quarterback in
the NFC.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
North three years from today?
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Yeah, because I mean there's questions about all these guys, right,
Like Goalt's getting a little bit older, and I know
you're not a huge fan of his. Jordan Love, very inconsistent.
Caleb Williams, We're still working progress. And then what's happening
in Minnesota is not looking good at.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
All, not looking good whatsoever.
Speaker 5 (26:51):
If I had to put my money somewhere, I would
bet on the ceiling of Caleb Williams and I would
just hope and I would pray to the football gods
that this guy is just more consistent with getting rid
of the football on time. J Mart Like, I have
no problem with going off script from time to time,
(27:14):
extending to play from time to time. It makes sense
at times, but he does it all the time, like
he will not get rid of the football on time,
and it's not going to work in the NFL as
much as he does it. He's got to do a
much better job of one two three throw, you know,
(27:35):
one second, two seconds, three seconds, Like the ball should
have been gone by now, and he's just like, yeah,
let me let me buy like four more seconds, Like no, man, no,
you can't do that as much as he does. He's
got to get that fixed, man. And I'm gonna bet
that he can to a degree where he will be
the best quarterback in the NFC North three years from now.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
My bet would be on Caleb would you go Jordan Love?
Or where would you go?
Speaker 4 (28:00):
There? I probably would be with you, Jordan Love. I
need to see something consistent from him, yeah, and I
just kind of I don't know. I think his consistency
is just going.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
To be sort of average.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
I think at times he's going to have really nice
games and at times he's going to have the opposite.
I think that you're right the ceiling if they're able
to kind of harness, it is going to be higher
for Caleb. Caleb's got Russell Wilson syndrome where he's always
trying to make a big time play down the field
instead of taking what the defense is giving him. And
they do need to let him know that a five
(28:32):
yard gain is going to move you down the field
pretty effectively as well. And taking bad sacks and potentially
putting yourself in a spot where you're going to throw
throw into double coverage or fumble the football or whatever.
Let none of that is going to be particularly helpful
to you. But i will say this just since we're
on the topic of the NFC North, like I'm seeing
(28:53):
increasing numbers of articles about Minnesota moving on from JJ
McCarthy after this season, loan away at how poorly that
has gone, Like I'm not like coming out of Michigan,
I wasn't sure at all. I definitely was on the
downside because he wasn't asked to do a whole lot,
although when he was asked to do it, he would
(29:14):
make two big throws a game for them and then
you know, defense and Blake Corum would carry him the
rest of the way. But I'm seeing the JJ McCarthy
that I wasn't sure what the hype was about in college,
And I don't want to say that because he's young
and you would think there's still a lot of football left.
But with the talent that they've got in Minnesota, how
long can they afford to kind of sit there and
(29:36):
wait to see if he comes around.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
Man, it's a tough thing where you would want to
probably do a colts thing, you know, like you bring
in competition, you bring in a guy like Daniel Jones
who has a lot of starting experience, hasn't worked out
very well to this point, like heading into this season,
and he could at least be a guy that challenges
Anthony Richardson, maybe he wins the job. Maybe with Shane Steikin,
(30:02):
he's able to revive his career, and that has to
a large degree been what's happened. So maybe you could
do something like that with the Vikings, because you don't
want to be in twenty twenty six and still like,
hey man, we're still riding this JJ McCarthy train right here,
and it looks next season like it does this season, right, Like,
you really don't want to be in a spot like that.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
So that's probably what they would do.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
I don't think that they like move on completely and
try to get a new guy, but they might try
to get a Daniel Jones ish like quarterback to push
JJ McCarthy and if they need to have at least
a legitimate option to go to if the guy is
just stinking out loud again, because he's been brute, he
(30:50):
hasn't been just bad, he's been like whoa, what is
happening here?
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Kind of bad.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Yeah, it's kind of incredible considering O'Connell and how smart
a coach he is and how good a coach he is.
That that that's what worries me, is like they're not
getting anything out of McCarthy, and I don't think that
it's the coach's fall. Like I'm not sure. I'm not
sure what we're looking at there. But the worst thing
(31:16):
that you can possibly do in this case is be
paying big top money to wide receivers but not have
a quarterback that can get them the football consistently. Man Like.
That is just that's got to be just dreadful for
Vikings fans out there. Every Olympic dream starts with a
first glide through learn to skate. USA kids build confidence
strength and joy on the ice. Learn to Skate USA
(31:37):
offers programs for skaters of all ages and abilities. You
need to find a program near you at learn to
Skate usa dot com. I need to do that because
my four year old daughter is asking about ice skating.
So that's a that's a real thing that is occurring, Bruan.
I admitted earlier that I lost a job because of theft. Yeah,
(31:57):
I got another Maya Kopa after the break.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
I can't wait.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
There's something I've got to fully come clean on involving
something that's happening today in one of the games it's
being played, Okay, any upsets this weekend in college football
will discuss a little bit of that as well. A reminder,
Sesame Street helped raise all of us. I know it
did me, and now it's our turn. Donate this holiday
(32:22):
season at Sesame dot org because the world needs Sesame
and Sesame needs you. When we come back, I'm coming clean.
I gotta say it, man, I have to make the
right decision. I have to be honest with you people,
and I'll do it next I'm Jason Martin, Heasbro. I
know we're in for two pros and a cup of
Joe here on Fox Sports Radio. It's two Pros and
(32:42):
a cup of Joe here on Fox Sports Radio. The
fellows are out. It's been me and Brian Noen for
the last two days. By me, I mean Jason Martin.

and that is I decided not to use original Louisiana
hot sauce. That was a big time mistake. Be ruined
(33:24):
the meal for me. Luckily I survived. But that's the
original Louisiana hot sauce. It's three simple ingredients onto your plate.
It's going to turn any day into a tailgate. So
no matter what day it is, grab the original Louisiana
hot sauce and add a little game data.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Every day.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
That's Louisiana Hot by you some all right, So here
comes the Mayakopa. I already admitted to something in the
first hour, as you told, multiple stories here's a prison
to go back to the podcast, multiple stories of Brian
Know being incompetent at jobs, the end being fired. Right,
Louisiana is an interesting place to be. Oh yeah today
(34:02):
because Ole Miss and Mississippi State are playing football today
inn e Egg Bowl and everything is And the question
I think is is information gonna leak before or during
that game? Remember Andrew Lux's retirement, Remember that happening during
a preseason game with the Bears.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
I'll never forget that. Yeah, I was.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
Actually on air that night, Like I ended up going
on air like an hour hour and a half after
that because it was a Saturday night and just how
unfortunate that was. Well, as soon as this thing leaks,
it's gonna get out. It's gonna be absolutely everywhere. But
here's my may O cult. But yesterday we were saying,
you know what's gonna happen with lang Kiffin. Is he
gonna stay at Ole Miss? Is he gonna go to LSU?
(34:43):
Is he gonna go to Florida? Everybody's had their say.
Last Saturday, I went on record with Aaron Torres on
Fox Sports Raio and our usual slot on Saturday nights.
And I said, I think he's gonna stay, and I'm
gonna stick by my guns. And I said yesterday, I'm
gonna stick by my guns. He's gonna stay, Brian, He's gone, man, He's.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
Like I tried.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
I tried so hard to make this work because in
my heart, that's what I want him to do, is
stay at Old Miss, because I see so many good
things that could come from that, and I want to
see him make go. I think it's a great story,
all these different things. Right, my head's got to win
out here. I'm not going down with the ship. The
band is not gonna keep playing as the Titanic goes
(35:26):
down here, like I am unplugging and getting off this thing.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
That man is headed to Baton Rouge. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
No, That's what I've thought this whole time. It just
seems so obvious. Like we talked about, right, if you
were staying at Old Miss, you would announce this before
the egg Bowl, right, like this is a huge game,
this is the clinch, a playoff spot, and you wouldn't
have this as a distraction, you know, in front of
your team. You would want them completely focused on the game.
(35:54):
Don't worry, guys, nothing to these rumors. I'm stay in put.
I'm not going anywhere. It's all Mississippi State right Instead,
it's like, hey, right after the Egg Bowl, we're gonna
have an announcement that just to me reeks of he's
out of here, you know, And I think LSU is
the landing spot for him. It's a huge contract. You
(36:17):
look at, maybe the recruiting advantages. There are a lot
of reasons that LSU would appeal to you. I just
think it absolutely sucks. You can't do both. Like, there's
nothing wrong with taking the job at LSU, but that
means based on the transfer when like the portal is
only open between January two and the sixteenth, that's it.
(36:37):
We don't have like another portal window over here. And
if you miss this one, it's okay, you could just
hit the next one. You have got to hit this
with the one and only now. So you can't have
Lane Kiffen as your head coach because it's gonna fall
within that window during the playoff. So if he goes
to LSU, he's gone after the regular season and you're
(36:58):
moving on with an interim coach for the playoff and
that's the only way it can go. It really can't
go another way, and I think that sucks. I would
like the window to be such where if Lane takes
the job at LSU, okay, but we still want them
here for the postseason because we got a shot to
chase a championship.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
And that's what I said.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
They didn't want him pretty much that that that story
came out yesterday that look, if he is or maybe
it even came out on Wednesday, that if he is
going to take the other job, they're not gonna let
him coach, And well I have seen it. That means
they may drop them a couple of spots in the
playoff rankings and send them on the road, right even
if they would have had a home playoff game otherwise.
(37:40):
So what a what a mess?
Speaker 3 (37:42):
And I get it.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
I get it based on the way the rules are
again with the portal, that's the only way you can
do it.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
I just wonder if.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
College football, if college football were smarter and we didn't
have the window where it is.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
It's just a terrible window. I don't know why you
would have.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
It's basically free agency during your playoff season.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Why would you do.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
The NFL is not gonna open free agency during the
NFL playoffs. It's not gonna be like, hey, we'll get
to a breaking down championship Sunday with these two stud games.
But first man, what about the free agency? They wouldn't
do that.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
It's just dumb.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
But I wonder if the window, let's just say the
window is in February, if ole Miss would feel the
same way, they'd be out of their minds to feel
that way. It makes sense based on where the portal
window is. But if it's in February and Lane could
coach the entire playoff and then you could move on
with your next head coach, that would be the way
(38:38):
to do it. It's just the portal window won't allow.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
You to do that.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
So one thing our television on the television side, our
colleague gurban Meyer said this week was he didn't think
there's any part of this that has to do with money.
I mean, Lane's gonna get paid wherever he is, and
he's gonna get paid handsomely wherever he is. He's gonna
have advantages. But I could see where Herb is coming
from on this because he's saying it's about winning. So
(39:04):
my take on this would be if he leaves Ole Miss,
which I think is closer to a championship by far
right now than LSU in Florida, is is he admitting
tacitly that winning at Ole Miss as much as college
football has changed in terms of the landscape, and you
know what we're seeing with Texas Texas a prime example
(39:24):
of that. But is he still saying that there are
built in advantages to some of these more legacy programs
that the little guy still has to overcome.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (39:35):
Right, Like if you just you know, whatever you look
at facilities or anything that he's doing, he's gonna do
a comparison, right Like, that's what he's gonna do. He's thinking,
he's at one job, he's thinking about taking another one,
so you're gonna compare him right on down the list
and whatever he's looking at and saying, all right, our
facilities or this LSU's facilities are that, Wow, our nil budget?
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Is this there?
Speaker 5 (39:58):
Nil budget? Is that my paycheck? Is this my paycheck?
Is that he's doing a comparison all down the road,
and I wonder if some of it might be is
the last stop at Ole Miss, like that might be
the question he keeps coming back to in his mind.
Speaker 4 (40:14):
Man, I still think winning the championship there means more.
I do too, because he'd be the guy to do it.
Brian know's gonna be leading the ship our three next
here on Fox
