news out of the NFL yesterday was, of course, shortly
after we went off the air, the Buffalo Bills fire

(02:04):
head coach Sean McDermott. After nine seasons, a five hundred
record in the playoffs and a ninety eight and fifty
record overall, he gone following the devastating loss that the
Bill suffered at Denver over the weekend. And I guess

(02:24):
I shouldn't be surprised at this point. I just thought, Hey,
if you want a playoff game, you know, maybe that'll
buy you a little bit of time. But apparently time
had run out on Sean McDermott, and the Buffalo Bill
has now become the top job available with.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Josh Allen as the quarterback there. So problem go th Cue.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
I'm having some Internet issues right.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Now, Okay, I'll take it. Listen.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
I felt as though there were three coaches that were
on the hot seat for this this end of season run.
It was Baltimore, it was Pittsburgh, and it was the
Buffalo Bills. And and I felt as though looking at

(03:15):
where this this Ravens team was, it was based on
hitting maybe possibly a ceiling with your star quarterback. I
thought the same thing about the Buffalo Bills with McDermott,
and and and and with Josh Allen. Did you hit
your ceiling as a coach with this player or has

(03:39):
this player And this is the hard one to get
a hold of if you asked me, has the player
possibly potentially hit their ceiling? And and and so to me,
I'm not I wasn't surprised by it.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Again. We brought it up yesterday.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
We discussed it, and and I know Pete thought get
another year, and potentially that made sense to give McDermott
another year. I mean, they did have a little bit
of success, but I just don't think. I just don't
think that this team is getting further than what they have.

(04:16):
And I don't know if it's because of McDermott or
if it's because of anything else.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
I mean, I know they were a field goald away
from this not even being a conversation, but it did happen.

Speaker 6 (04:29):
I realized, you know, the conversation going into the game.
I thought it was a bit odd. I mean, Sean
McDermott has missed the playoffs once and his coaching career there.
I actually, when I was looking at the Bills this season,
if you're gonna be critical, I think you're critical of
the defense because it wasn't up to I think what

(04:51):
their standard has been in past years, you know, and
they've been a double digit win team for basically the
almost the entirety of McDermott's tenure. And maybe you just
attached that to you know, what Josh Allen's been as
a quarterback. But this defense, if that's what your background
is and that's how you got the job initially, isn't

(05:12):
able to maintain.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
A high level.

Speaker 6 (05:15):
I looked into that's the first thing that you're kind
of starting to be critical of Sean McDermot what they're doing,
because this defense wasn't good enough this year. And I
understand there are some injuries that played, you know, a factor,
and we can talk about controversial calls. You know, I
think anyone who sits there and tells you definitively like, oh,
that should have been an interception. I mean I looked

(05:35):
at it in real time and thought, oh, that's interesting, Like,
I think that really could have gone both ways if
the officials on the field had called that a catch,
that Cooks had control that possession. It was simultaneous if
you want to call it that, and it was down
by contact, Like I think you probably could have made
that case or have been hard to overturn. It's just

(05:56):
it's it was one of those play calls that was
tough to officiate in the moment, and who knows how
that changes the trajectory of the game.

Speaker 5 (06:03):
But Buffalo also had their moments.

Speaker 6 (06:06):
I mean, if you're Josh Allen, you were losing sleep
right now over the errant throw to Dawson Knox. That
would have been probably for a touchdown. He catches that ball,
he's inside the ten, he probably runs into the end zone.
Games over, so there were plays to be had. I
think the criticism of some of that with Josh Allen
is accurate, Like he you know, didn't play well enough

(06:28):
to win. Bo Knicks was the better quarterback, in particular
throwing down the field. You know that was something that
was rather obvious, at least in that game. You know
they could just not take the top off the Broncos defense.
But I also think when you're looking at why you
make a move like this, you're saying, we feel like
we've capped out with where this coach is at. And
I think that's basically been their history. Now is in

(06:53):
a year where they didn't have to worry about Cincinnati,
who they lost to back in twenty twenty two, they
didn't have to worry about Kansas City, who they've lost
the last two years, two in the playoffs, or three
of the last four years. They didn't have any of
those hurdles and they still couldn't get it done. So
clearly they feel like there's a window now because Josh
Allen's our quarterback, that we're trying to win a super Bowl.

(07:14):
We need to find the right guy to get this
team over the hump to do so. What I find
most interesting though, is the one thing this team does
not have is a number one wide receiver. And Brandon Bean,
who came with Sean McDermott there not only does he not.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Get clipped as well. I think he got promoted.

Speaker 6 (07:33):
Yeah, And so you look at that decision and it's like, help,
it makes sense. And I always try to explain to
people and this is like this. In every corporation, you
got people who come in together, who work together, and
then they will try to do their best to save
themselves and point the blame elsewhere when adversity strikes. And
it feels a little bit like maybe that was the

(07:53):
case here only because I don't know how those guys
both basically who had worked in Carolina together and then
they come to Buffalo together. Why you wouldn't want to
if you're going to reset, reset and say we need
to find a head coach in general manager who can
work together, because that was what.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
Led you to this point.

Speaker 6 (08:10):
But now as you want to reset with the quarterback
that you have, you don't want to find someone else
to kind of handle it because there is definitely some
holes in the roster and with some of the decisions
they've made over the last few years.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
They've had a lot of devastating losses. Obviously the overtime
game at Kansas City, the missfield goal, Like there's been
some devastating playoff losses that have taken place with Josh Allen,
Sean McDermott. The way they acted after this one, though,
leads me to believe that they all kind of, maybe
without saying it, recognize there's going to be some changes,

(08:47):
because Sean McDermott afterwards, you know, talking about I'm standing
up for Buffalo like I'm standing up for and then
calling the reporter from the team plane to talk about
the myst call them ruling it an interception and overtime
and all of that that came along with it. Josh
Allen's emotion, Dawkins was emotional afterwards. It just it felt

(09:09):
like I wonder if there was whether there was a
conversation that McDermott.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Had with either the owner, whether it.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
Was a conversation, but it felt like they all recognized
things are about to change and that's what led to
the emotion.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
And I just.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Wonder, couldn't it have just been them losing, because to me,
it's never sounded like that.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
And let's say stakes were so high going into that
game for Buffalo.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
But the stakes have been high in a lot of
playoff games. The AFC Championship game, they didn't they didn't
act like that they didn't handle a couple of years exactly.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
We're a couple of years removed from that.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
But you don't think that this one seemed different. And
if we're being honest, it's not like you lost to
a team you should have beat. You lost to the
number one seed in the AFC.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Think there was a difference because they're at a point
of where it's a crossroads, like do you continue doing
what you're doing but you're seemingly getting the same results,
and you're looking around the league and you're seeing again

(10:15):
you see Harball being let go, You're seeing Mike Tomlin
stepping away, like you're seeing these coaching vacancies and these
things take place, and you gotta believe as a player,
you feel the pulse, You feel the energy of how
things are going in the building, how the ownership handles

(10:38):
and acts towards things. You feel it, You see it.
That's not you know, that's not a military secret. As
a player in the locker room, you're there. So to me,
I think they knew how high the stakes were and
they needed to do more and they didn't. And yes,
it's different than two years ago, because two years it's like, Okay,

(11:02):
what are we going to do this year? Is it
going to be the same old departure or are we
going to go further? Are we going to do better?
And I felt strongly about the fact that Buffalo was
one of those teams that needed to do better or
there was going to be something that happened. There you go,
what happened.

Speaker 6 (11:22):
I think the question you brought up though about has
Josh Allen hit his ceiling?

Speaker 2 (11:25):
I don't.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
I don't think he has. I don't think Lamar Jackson has.
You know guys who are MVP winners without super bowls.
It to me this demonstrates a couple of things. It's
so damn hard to win and to win in the
playoffs and to win a super Bowl. And it's why
if you're bow Knicks right now, you got to be sick,
man like, this has to be the most devastating.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
Injury you've had. Because he's played phenomenal.

Speaker 6 (11:53):
I don't think he's gotten his due for what he's
done since he's been in the league as a rookie.
Everyone kind of like overshadows, it doesn't highlighted enough. But
then for that moment to be playing banged up the
throws he made in that game, how tough he displayed,
everything he displayed and now to be out two games,
you know, conference championship and a potential Super Bowl like that,

(12:15):
that to me would kill any But it also demonstrates
the fact that it takes so much more than just
you know, a franchise generational talent at quarterback. And that's
talking about both Mark Jackson and Josh Allen. It is
a true team sport. And I think if we're being
honest with ourselves, I don't know if you looked at
Buffalo's team and said, like, yeah, they've got the weapons

(12:37):
they need on the outside. I mean, James coach is
he's a good running back, Like they can hang their
hat on that. But outside of that, like who scares
you at wide receiver for them, No disrespect to them,
But I think we're just being honest with ourselves.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
I think she cares pretty good.

Speaker 6 (12:55):
I just as a slot okay, Like like that's not
a number one. That's not a guy that like when
you need him to, you know, find a way of
being double coverage or get open.

Speaker 5 (13:04):
Or make that catch.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
I mean, I don't disagree the reality they're number there.
Number one is Kincaid like that's that's his go to guy.

Speaker 6 (13:11):
Well you'd say Kinkaid or you might yeah, a tight end,
which is again even then that's not a wide receiver.
There's there's ways that you're gonna be able to limit
those guys. Right again, there it's not the same. And
so I just I kind of go back to if
you looked at even Lamar this season and and however
you want to look at that the firing of John

(13:32):
Harbaugh defensively that that you know, the team didn't play
up to its standard of what it's been. And I'm
not saying that these quarterbacks don't deserve criticism or blame
for their play, but it's just it's so damn hard man.
It takes more than just having a guy who's a
generational talent, like you got to have it all come together, and.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
It just it makes you.

Speaker 6 (13:51):
It makes you look back on like what the Patriots
were able to do with Tom Brady, as good as
Brady is, but all the pieces everyone in Unison consistently
for so long or soch a long period of time
with the Chiefs have been able to accomplish Like it
makes you really look back.

Speaker 5 (14:04):
And say, damn man.

Speaker 6 (14:06):
Like what they were able to do is so difficult
and it's really hard to explain to people until you
have guys like Josh Allen who have such an incredible
career so far and yet like they can't sniff it.
Joe Burrow's trying to get back to it, Lamar Jackson.
They haven't been able to sniff it yet. It's crazy.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
And do you think Kevin Stefanski saw the news and
was like, son of a bitch, why I take the lot?

Speaker 1 (14:30):
I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that listen.

Speaker 5 (14:34):
Contract sign second. I mean it's the ink dry. If not,
I mean, I know you might really get out of it.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
I'll say I don't know that they've hit their ceilings.
Just to address that, but being successful that you could
to have hit your ceiling and still have great success.
I mean, they're that good. But is that ceiling a
ceiling where their great success doesn't equate to them winning

(15:03):
a Super Bowl?

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Never won a Super Bowl?

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Right, And that's what I'm saying. Neither neither did Jim Kelly.
And there's a there's a host warm moon.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
There are a.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Host of quarterbacks that were tremendous hall of fame quarterbacks
that weren't able to cross cross that threshold. I mean,
at least Dan Marino made it to a super Bowl.
I mean it was his rookie year, but I mean,
at least they made it to a super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
I don't. I don't. I just don't know.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
And we're gonna see they're gonna get new coaches, so
there's going to be a new staff. I just at
some point, it can't always be everybody else. It can't
always be the other reason. It can't always be, oh
they don't have the receivers. Oh, they don't have the defense. Oh,
it's the coach. At some point, it's going to come

(15:54):
down to one of the common denominators to where this
team is is the quarterback.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
At some point, does defense win championships? Yeah, if you
put on the quarterback, I think it does. Yeah, well
I think they do too. But you can't say that
and then put on the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
I can, because that's what the you know, sounds contradicting, Yeah,
it is, but it's not by mine. I just play
by the rules. I don't I don't make them. I
don't make them. But I do think that defenses win championships.
But when those teams lose. But when the team loses,
it's going to get thrown on the quarterback and the coach. Yeah,

(16:31):
I didn't make that. That's not mine, that's not original,
that's not unique to me. I'm just going with what
everybody else is on that take at least. So yeah,
and and y'all get all the money, and y'all get
all the girls. What you're saying y'all for like your quarterback, y'all,
I didn't do anything, y'all.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
You're part of this narrative. I'm with you. Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
I feel like you're being racial towards quarter I.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Am, I am.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
I do have a I have a prejudice that it's
more prejudice, but it's not.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
I don't think it's racist. You're more prejudice. Yeah, correct.
If Josh Allen's name was Jerome, he'd win a Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
Hit versions therefore you got me.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
There you go, And that's not true, Jonas, because I'm
talking about all quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
I don't care if his name is Jerome, Lamar John,
you appreciate that you're not Fernando.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
I don't care if you.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Hate all of us. You really can't be racist. Towards anyone.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
That's I'm prejudiced towards quarterback. Yeah, I'm not racist towards
I'm prejudiced, It's true.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
I think y'all all right, all.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
Right, who do you think? They're probably gonna want to
go with somebody? And I know we don't like to
do this, but they probably want to go with somebody
on the offensive side of the ball, correct. I would
assume to try and get the most out of Josh
Allen while.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
You've Would you imagine if Sean Payton was available, that
would be like the a man to be revalue.

Speaker 6 (18:07):
It's funny, like even not that mattla Floord ever leaved
Green Bay, but when it was contract situation was up,
it's like maybe they were like, oh, we work on
a trade here. I mean, there's always the element of
a trade we saw with Gruden.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Could you imagine if Gruton like was in a situation
to take a job like that?

Speaker 5 (18:27):
What John Gruten? Yeah, I mean, he isn't a situation.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
I can't. I just feel like he's been removed for
so long.

Speaker 6 (18:33):
Could you imagine him in Buffalo just crushing Buffalo wings?

Speaker 5 (18:37):
Talk about spider too? Whye bananas? All the time.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
I just feel like he's been away too long.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
You know who is available. It's got some familiarity with
Josh Allen. Oh, Brian Dayball, old dump chunk Nuts, Brian Dayball.
Why are we retreading though?

Speaker 5 (18:52):
I just don't because they had a lot of success
when he was his play.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Callers just not into retrades.

Speaker 7 (18:57):
Man.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
Let's go down and new road. Let's bring in Marcus Freeman.
Let's get him out of Notre Dame. Let's let's let's
set Notre Dame back a few years. I'll say this much.
It'd be hard for I said.

Speaker 6 (19:09):
This Las like you know last night about Kurt Signetty,
because that's your quarterback. I think everyone is like, oh,
that's open, all right. I gotta give that a look,
you know. I mean, when you've had you've.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Got assets like that, Yes, you're gonna get I mean,
you know better than anyone. You're gonna give it a
couple of looks.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
You ain't lying, You are not lying. And it is
not October. So I don't know why Orange is a
Oh maybe because it's Denver, it's a Denver weekend. Maybe
it's because it's Denver. You are one hund correct well,
maybe it's for Miami, Miami. We didn't talk about it,

(19:48):
and I know that this is like kind of like
changing the topic.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Let's talk about it next. I went way lately. I'm
not being a professional. That's all good. My apologies everyone,
Sorry professionals.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
I'm on this show left a long time ago. By
the way, have you ever wiped with a piece of
dry toilet paper and wondered?

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Is this as good as it gets?

Speaker 5 (20:07):
It hurts?

Speaker 4 (20:08):
Not switched to life changing Wet extra large flushable Dudewifes
because Wetter just cleans better. Available at Amazon and at
major retailers nationwide. Dudewives best clean pants down.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
I'm a dude.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
All right, it's coming up next. Here a story that
we need to get to, and it's yours right here,
nfs saw, here's a story for you.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
The big game is almost here, and you know what,
the league's best players are going to line up against
one another. And these players are made of some really
really amazing stuff like grit draft and they got a
whole lot of heart. Well, the original Louisiana hot sauce.
It's made of some really good stuff too. Only three

(20:50):
simple ingredients will do. Peppery peppers, vinegary, vinegar and salty salt.
They blend together to make the type of sauce that
changes games. Use it to dress up your wings, your pizza,
even gumbo, and time seems to slow down. Impossible plays
just look well so easy, and there's just something to

(21:13):
it when you can't quite put your finger on what
it is. But boy, when it hits your tongue, you
know you're chewing on something. By beautiful, that's right. The
original Louisiana Hot Sauce has a championship pedigree for almost
one hundred years and it's got no signs of slowing down.
We'll it ever see. That is Louisiana a legacy. That's

(21:35):
so delicious. Again, I don't think so behay the original
Louisiana Hot Sauce. It's made of championship level stuff, pepper's,
vinegar and salt, and that's Louisiana Hot. Make sure you
buy you soon.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
All right? So you were saying before we went to
break there.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Var Yeah, I just you know, I don't know why
it took me back to I guess because we were
talking about coaches and stuff like that. But give a
lot of credit to Chrystal ball Man. You know, in
four years time, he's done a tremendous job as well.
And and and you know, like that Miami team has

(23:24):
direction now, it's found its identity again. I thought it
was it was great for college football last night. It
was a win for college football because one, it wasn't
a blowout.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
It was a competitive game.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
I thought it was a competitive game against a powerhouse,
a legendary, storied powerhouse program in Miami, and and a newcomer.
But I was really you know, I was. I sent
you out a picture, you know, of me with coach.

(24:02):
I went to visit them maybe two off seasons ago,
maybe one off season ago, anyway, and I hung out
with them at the facility, and you could tell they
were building something special there. You know, Jason Taylor, the
way he has the defensive line playing, I mean, all
the amounts of pressures that they had, the hits that

(24:23):
they had, and some may be illegal, but I just
I thought that it was very It's a very commendable
job that Crystal Ball did. I mean, he turned Oregon,
He took Oregon and turned them into a more competitive program.
And then they've continued to build from there. I just

(24:45):
I thought that it should be stated that even though
in a loss, nobody likes to lose, you don't want
to see your team lose, and there's no really feeling
good when you lose the biggest game. Sometimes you probably
rather not be in the biggest game and lose that
one versus losing in it. But I thought that Miami
had a well of a season.

Speaker 9 (25:05):
Man.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
They came out of the ACC, so they represented it.
You know, you would assume that it would be an
All Big Ten championship or an SEC Big Ten championship.
They were the team that emerged out of a different,
different conference that made it to you know, to the game.
And I thought that this year's bracket, the brackets were

(25:27):
I don't know about you guys, but I didn't think
that it was like last year. And I'll be the
first one to say, I feel like Penn State benefited
from a very easy, manageable path to getting to where
they were able to get to one game away from
the championship. But I thought this was a pretty competitive

(25:48):
field this year, and outside of the early games obviously,
but outside.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Of that, I thought they were these were.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
Competitive matchups and to see how it played out in
Miami get through it and be in the championship game.
I just felt like they deserve to get some flowers
today as well, even though they you know, they lost.

Speaker 6 (26:09):
Well, I would say this, there's a lot there starting
with where you ended with Miami, I would actually look
at a little bit different. They've been one of the
most well funded NIL programs over the past few years,
and I think up until this year, if you asked
Miami fans, they would say there were probably a little

(26:30):
bit disappointed with not seeing greater results for the spend
and for the talent they have and everything else. So
this was a big year for them and like proving
that Mario Crystobal can be the guy. The big question
now moving forward for them is Carson Beck obviously moves on.
They'll have another, I mean both as rushers move on.
They've got another, you know, a group of players who

(26:52):
would be moving on who to me were the backbone
and the foundation of their success this year.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
So I think that's the hard part is.

Speaker 6 (26:59):
Is then being able to reload and build off that
and then find whoever that next quarterback is. Maybe it's
Darien Mensa, the quarterback out of Duke. It was rumored
that obviously he had signed a deal with Duke, but
now he was trying to get out to be that
next guy at Miami, which, if that's the case, awesome
for him and awesome for Miami because he's a hell
of a player. But I would actually say, just from

(27:20):
living down there and being around that.

Speaker 5 (27:22):
Program and some of the folks there too at the Orange.

Speaker 6 (27:24):
Bot, I think there was a little bit to be
desired up until this year, which was obviously a ton
of fun.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
I heard that. I did hear that, and and I'm
aware of it. But I just think he maintained the course.
Like just talking to him and he maintained the course.

Speaker 6 (27:41):
I think anyone who talks to Marry Christaball comes away
with loving the man that he is and that you'd
want your son to play for him, and you feel
like he's a leader of men. Like that was my
first impression of him when he took the job. I
would I would go back on the organ thing, like
he was fine at Organ, but like Dan Lanning has
been better, much better, way, way more were developed before

(28:01):
he got there, right, I mean you're talking about going
through the years like obviously Chip Kelly and health Rich.
Even those years where people tend to forget Mark Helfrich
played for a national championship like that, they had to.

Speaker 5 (28:10):
Oregon rolling for a while.

Speaker 6 (28:11):
So I don't know that I look back on the
Oregon years as much other than you know, it kind
of allowed him to get back to Miami, a place
he's familiar with, the place that he played at, which
makes a ton of sense, and I think he's brought
a lot of pride back to the program. So we'll
see what Miami does too. You know, they're playing in
a conference that allows them right now, I think a

(28:32):
clear path because the ACC has been pretty weak. But
I think the other thing you touched on is just
obviously the twelve team playoff format.

Speaker 5 (28:40):
They made adjustments to who those four teams would be.

Speaker 6 (28:42):
That got the buy and that's played out to be
more competitive quarterfinal games, which is what we were lacking
last year. Right We kind of had some maybe better
first round games, but then weaker quarterfinal matchups at times
because some of the teams that got to play through
you know, Boise for.

Speaker 5 (28:58):
Example, being a group of but being able to get
a buy.

Speaker 6 (29:01):
So there's different reasons I think for why it was
a little bit more competitive after that first round. And
I think people have to take into account this if
it expands, which it feels like based on the news,
you know, coming out of the past twenty four hours,
the Big Ten, the SEC can't you know, agree on
what that expansion looks like. So it's probably gonna be

(29:22):
twelve teams for another year because the SEC went sixteen
and the Big Ten ones twenty four.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
And we can talk about that another day as to
why that is.

Speaker 6 (29:30):
But you're gonna get blowouts, you're gonna get mismatches, you're
gonna get bad games, and I think they're you know,
if you look at the National Championship to your point
of it being a close competitive game, I think the
average margin of victory is about nineteen points per National.

Speaker 5 (29:44):
Championship game, at least dur in the playoff era. And
part of the reason for that.

Speaker 6 (29:47):
Obviously was the drumming that TCU got when they got
beat by Georgia. But the reality is is, you know,
even if you take that game out, it's probably still
you know, not overly competitive or over a touchdown. So
it was it was a great result to a college
football season and to a sport that. I mean, there's
no doubt they've got its false It's at an odd

(30:09):
time where we enter now into the offseason where it
becomes even more transparent, you know, led the issues that
college football is facing, but at least the game, at
least the product on the field is still as compelling
as ever.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
And I think Indiana's.

Speaker 6 (30:24):
Win gives every program hope and at the same time
puts a lot of pressure on a lot of blue
blood programs as to what are we doing, you know,
and why are we not doing or implementing things that
they're doing. How are they able to do what they
were able to accomplish this year. We've seen it before
in college basketball, but to see it in college football,
it's a new day, a new age, and it's incredible

(30:46):
to see what Indiana is being able to do.

Speaker 4 (30:48):
Yeah, it was a fun game last night, just the
especially the way it closed. The Mendoza play Indiana and
that fan base and you know, them coming out to
that game and you know, paying the young godly price
as they did to get out there and take that
stadium over and to have Miami back on the big
stage was awesome. Mario Cristobald, the head coach spoke though

(31:09):
following the game about his disappointment.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
What did you say to your team in the locker
room just now?

Speaker 9 (31:14):
I mean, that's a really resilient, tough just really a special.

Speaker 5 (31:18):
Group of human beings.

Speaker 9 (31:21):
They've alway, they've been a league competitors, They've been the
best thing that's happened to the University of Miami and
the community in twenty five years. They turned around a
program that I mean, I'm really kind.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
Of had a loss for words. It was let's just
say that it's very real. You know, we let one
slip away.

Speaker 9 (31:39):
Credit to Indiana, great football team, really a tremendous amount
of respect for them. But these guys, our guys never
stopped battling. Resiliency was awesome, like always in at the end,
you know, we had a turnover. That's a really difficult
time in there.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Keep your head of coach, kept it within the number.
That's what's important here.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
In issues some of us on with how that all
worked out.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
I thought they would cover her friends friends.

Speaker 5 (32:09):
That's a that's a two for right there. Folks. If
you had to pick.

Speaker 6 (32:12):
It early like I did, you got an eight and
a half and you got the under a forty eight
and a half, which just snuck in there.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
Carson, what do you worry about the intercept foot bar?

Speaker 4 (32:20):
As long as it wasn't a pick six, It's all
ebody cares about.

Speaker 9 (32:23):
Come on.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
Which, by the way, we didn't mention Mendoza.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
We we we talked about how he was brought in
not the most coveted of transfer portal players, but Beck
would be considered to possibly have been the most most
valued player in the portal last last offseason.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
I was there.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
I was with them when they were doing the deal,
the people who do the deal that was I was
with them because we were playing in Miami. That was
the weekend that that was the Orange Bowl week when
they brought him in.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
Well, is that because there wasn't SEC team last year
in the semi finals for the playoff again.

Speaker 5 (33:03):
For the third straight year. We basically had is that
what you're you're alluding to?

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Uh? Well, I wasn't alluding to. I mean, I was
just saying that we were there.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
That's why they could do the deal because Georgia.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
Because they weren't there. They weren't.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
Yeah, yeah, they want I mean I didn't pay attention
to all of that. I just I know, I was
with the guys who got like the guys and they
got it done. And well, anyway, you saw two contrasts
and styles in terms of how to build your team.
Miami has been more profile, a high profile with who

(33:38):
they brought in. You get a Beck, he's a high
profile transfer portal guy. You know, Mendoza Wasn't you know
that You look at these guys on Indiana. It almost
had Fiesta Bowl, Miami and Penn State on it.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
It almost had.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Convicts versus Catholics written on it. Like it really was
contrast and styles of what even when they were coming
out to the field, just watching the way this different
way they came out. I don't know if you guys
are paying attention to little stuff like that, but you know,
Miami came out bopping like they would say was on
the bounce. They they had the music plan. Indiana came

(34:17):
walking through Like when.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
You showed the fan bases in the crowd, you could
tell if they didn't matter what they were wearing, you
could tell who's.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
And Indiana did show up.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
I think, you know, I know we kind of debated
what what would that look like? It was It was
definitely Indiana heavy, wasn't it? Like I thought it was
way more in a lifetime. I didn't know that. I
just didn't know that they'd be able to get that
many tickets in Miami, and they did, like they took
over the Orange Bowl anyway. I just I think it's

(34:51):
interesting to contrast and styles because now with the whole
emergence of NIL and and and being able to pay
the players and were crutin them with cash, what does
that look like? You know, like, do you go after
the high profile, high price one or do you not
to to.

Speaker 6 (35:09):
Signetty made the comment He's like, our nil is not
what everyone thinks it is.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
He's like, so you can throw that out. I mean
he was.

Speaker 6 (35:15):
Quoted as saying that afterwards, which I would tend to agree, Like,
there's a lot of a lot of numbers that get
thrown around. It's not as big as everyone makes it
out to be. And I'm not saying it's not significant.
Kids aren't getting paid millions, but that tends to be
a little bit over blown.

Speaker 2 (35:30):

(38:50):
reportedly going to hire former Jets head coach, former Niners
defensive coordinator Robert Sala as their head coach.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
It was some.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Rumblings that Matt Naggy was going to be the guy,
but reports indicate that the Tennessee Titans preferred organizational restructuring
and stability over developing cam Ward as the quarterback there
in Tennessee, for whatever that's worth and whatever that means.

(39:22):
So Robert Sala is back and away we go with
the Robert Sala experience in Nashville.

Speaker 6 (39:28):
Which it's interesting because it's like Matt Naggy and Robert
Sala have both been head coaches before, so I'm not
really sure if they just feel like Robert Saal in
his relationships with some of the folks there the Tennessee
Titans is better or from his time with the Jets,
you know, he's learned more. But whatever the case may be,
it doesn't matter. Like I think, Robert Saal obviously got

(39:51):
a crap bag when he was in New York, so
I'd like this opportunity for him to see what he's
capable of being.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
So this isn't a crap bag.

Speaker 5 (39:58):
Well, what I'd say is it it has the potential
to be.

Speaker 6 (40:02):
And much like I said when Brian Callahan got hired,
they got to give him time. Like if you give
him two years and you expect him to turn this
thing around in two years, they're just not there, like
they're not ready for that yet.

Speaker 5 (40:14):
And so I I you know, as.

Speaker 6 (40:16):
Far as the hire goes, we'll see, but none of it,
no one's going to matter if you don't have enough
patience and give them time to build this thing the
way they're going to need to.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
It's it is a crap bag in my estimation. And
but do you have to take a job in Tennessee
right now, a job in New York right now the Jets.
That's a crap bag. Yeah, But here's my take. You
got to take the job now. I believe this will

(40:51):
be his last time being a head coach. But you
can get that job, you can get the pay that's
connected to that job, and you can all he's go
back to being a successful coordinator. He'll always he'll always
be able to get a coordinator's job. And he's done
a fine job as the coordinator for this this one
season with uh with with the San Francisco forty nine ers.

(41:15):
So I think it's the right decision for Robert Salah
to do, and I think that the thought process is
correct in terms of giving it time. But is he
the guy that if you give them time, this is
going to work out and it's going to be.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
A good move.

Speaker 1 (41:35):
I don't think his track record, his body of work
doesn't say that that's what it's going to be.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
I mean, the big question mark, we are going to get.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
Sla versus Liam Cohen twice a year though, Yeah, that's interesting.

Speaker 6 (41:46):
We can get which is interesting too because the Jaguars
came down to Cohen and Sala for that head coaching
job and ultimately they picked Liam Cohen and so there's
obviously some red ass to all of that, but on
whether they can but again the fact that, like that
was a job that Robert Sala was up for and
ultimately didn't get. So twice a year now, sign up

(42:06):
for that baby.

Speaker 4 (42:07):
And also so Matt Naggy left the Chiefs as offensive coordinators.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
See who the chief just brought back, And they.

Speaker 4 (42:16):
Just brought back Eric b Enemy and Matt Naggie doesn't
have a job, So what's gonna happen. Is he just
gonna Is he gonna get one of these other vacancies,
one of these other openings that are out there in
the NFL. Or Is he just going to go back
to Kansas City and tell Eric b enemy to, you know,
to get out of his office, you know, move your
stuff out, get back to Chicago, will be a running
backs coach. Just felt like apparently yesterday Naggie was in

(42:38):
the building for an interview in Tennessee. Robert Sala wasn't
supposed to have his until the next day, but they
decided to do it yesterday as well too, and then
they came to term shortly afterwards. So something Sala said
must have sold him on a go in that direction
and not Matt n Aggie. So congratulations, and now we're
going to get again.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
Sala. Liam cong on twice a year in the NFC South,
So I'm talking about
