Now, ab I got to ask you because so you're
seeing the Lions today, it feels like they're the most
underdiscussed team in the division. The Packers are getting talked
about because of how the season finished last year post
Mike injury and the and the playoff let down, the
Bears and Ben Jhonson Caleb Williams love affair. The Vikings

have their quarterback issues, and it feels like and I
don't know if you kind of feel the same way
that Detroit's kind of sliding.
Speaker 6 (03:43):
Under the radar, but with a really, really good roster.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
I would agree with that. Like, I think it's it's
just interesting because I think we we always talk about
teams that are on the way up, and you know,
I think what happens is like a team like that
that was on the way up, on the way up,
on the way up, and then failed to live up
to ex stactations when they got so close to the mountaintop,

like three. A lot of times those teams get back burnered.
And I mean the reality is like if you look
at like their contract in the negotiation the room right
now with Jamir Gibbs and all these guys they've re signed,
I mean, I you know, you're talking about them having
to make some hard decisions now on guys. It's because
they've drafted and developed so well. And you can go

down the list and and and and Joseph's to your point, like,
you know, Jamiir Gibbs is just the latest Amna, Ross
Saint Brown, Jamison Williams. You know, Jared Goff is now
on his second contract in Detroit. Aiden Hutchinson, Jack Campbell.
I think Brian Branch will eventually get a second contract.
So yeah, there are a lot of good players in

that team, you know. And I think I obviously haven't
been there yet, but like I I think the vibe
I've gotten is a little bit of uh, you know,
like they feel they feel just the way that you're you're,
you're you're describing.

And I think they feel a little overlooked.

M speaking of just I mean Jimmy Gibbs obviously next
up to get a deal list in the running back market.
Save Flowers just got his deal done and has a
lot of guaranteed money. Man, And I look at guys
like Pook and a Coup and I look at some
of the other guys out there, I'm thinking, I mean,
Save Flowers has been good. He hasn't had the production
that Pooka Nakua has. No, he also hasn't had the

off the field issue like Pook and Akua. Jonas can
get into the biting aspect of things, but I want
to focus more on the business of football.

Uh, what the implications of the Zay Flowers contract will
mean for other wide receivers, because I feel like based
on the total guarantees, based on the average annual salary,
I know, it always keeps going up and up and up.
There's a lot of receivers that have had more production
than him that I think are looking to say, all right,
hold on secon I need to reset the market again.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Then yeah, I mean, I think Brady, it affects guys
at every position, you know, like I think when you
start to see I don't want to I don't want
this to sound to come off come off the wrong way.
But when you take you guys kind of the second
tier at his position, that's fair to say about about
day Flowers, right, you know, and and and and he's

getting thirty five million dollars per year. I mean, man,
the dynamics has changed, you know. So now I think
if you're somebody like Pooka, you're well within your eyes
say well if he's worth that. And Will Anderson got
fifty you know, as a top non quarterback, and then
you got Aiden Hutchinson at forty five, and you got

Micah Parsons at forty six, like I should be well
above where Jamar Chase and Jackson Smith and Jacoba and
those guys are because the different forces in the in
the market have driven that price north. So I'm with you,
you know, I and I think this is part of
the cost for the Rams of waiting to this point
(07:32):
of the offseason. Now they have a good reason to
do that because of all the off field stuff and
puk are going to rehab and everything else. So you
one hundred percent understand why they wait. But you know,
there's also there also can be a price to waiting
even within an off season, not even waiting a year,
waiting two years, even with a even waiting within an
(07:54):
off season can come at a price, And I think
that's that's something that's definitely definitely there, and who can
going negotiation?

Abe, we got a couple quarterback competitions. I made the
point yesterday, and I looked it up a little bit
more after and really tried to find if there was
a real quarterback competition taking place and that team ended
up having a good season or ended up being a
(08:24):
good team. It's hard, It was hard to find anything
on it. How how should we be measuring engaging whoever
wins in Cleveland or whoever wins it in Minnesota? How
should we be gauging, you know, in terms of what
we believe the success level of those teams will be?
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Yeah, I mean Atlanta too, I guess Atlanta, Yeah, Atlanta, Yeah,
yeah yeah, And I and I think you're probably I
mean I I think what you're probably getting now, var
is like a quarterback competition. It isn't like a first
round pick trying win the job, right like it isn't
like the right That isn't like a rookie first round
pick trying to win the job.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
And and these are certainly different this that this way,
like in that way, and like where you know, the
two of them, you know, Atlanta and and and Minnesota,
you have a first round pick for two years ago
trying to hang on and a new guy coming in, and.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Then obviously Cleveland's Cleveland. So I I guess it goes
back to that a whole that old like if you
don't if you have two quarterbacks, you have none, saying,
but I can't think of too many where a guy
came out and outright one in a completely open competition
and camp. I'm sure it's happened at some point recently,
(09:41):
but I just I can't think of an example.
Speaker 8 (09:45):
Sam Darnold, But you know, I just yeah, But I like,
like you're saying, two years ago, like Sam, if you remember,
like that didn't really run true camp, and like Sam
had never Sam was never like kind of knocked off
of working with the one.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
So I like maybe two years ago last year he
was sort of entrenched as a starter in Seattle. There
just aren't a lot of examples of it. I think
there are a couple of reasons why. I Number one, like,
if you don't have a clear cut starter, then obviously
you're probably dealing with lesser players in the position, and
that's just logical, right. And then number two, I think
(10:22):
there is something to be said for a team knowing
who its quarterback is, you know, and that quarterback getting
a full off season at work with his teammates. So
there are probably a couple of reasons why he usually
doesn't work out, But it will certainly be interesting to
see the way that all that plays that. You know what,
I would say, go back to like the Bill O'Brien
(10:43):
Houston teams. I bet you can find an example or
two in there of one of those teams or two
of those teams going to the playoffs when they had
a competition that camp record to Shan.

camps during your training camp tour this offseason. I know
you stopped off in Denver. How optimistic based on what
you saw that the Broncos can parlay the success they

had last year into more of the same this year
because they do feel like one of those teams that
you look is maybe they take a step back and
last year was a little fluky.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
I mean, I the way I look at them, Jones,
I've seen them as kind of being rock solid. Like
that doesn't mean they're overwhelming, because I don't think they
have I mean, outside of Patches er Dan, I don't
know if they have like a true superstar anywhere on
that roster. But they also don't have any holes, and
(11:53):
they have depths in a lot of key places. Like
they're deep in corner, they're deep with task rushers, their
offensive lines solid all the way across. They're deep with receivers,
they're deep with running backs. So like I can understand
where people might look at them and say, well, you
know what, the AFC was down last year and they
benefited from a lot of the same things New England
(12:14):
benefited from. And I think some of that is true.
I think the flip side of it is like that's
a really welcomeceived team that has real talents on the roster,
that has real depths on the roster, and it's really
well coached.
Speaker 6 (12:29):
And so.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
I still think I think they're a playoff team in
the baseline, and how far do they take it from there.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
We'll see Albert.

I wanted to ask you about tonight's Hall of Fame game.
Looks like Jeremiah Love won't be at it. Yeah, I mean,
we were just talking about It's a football Thursday for us, buddy,
so we're excited. The season for me, I would say,
is officially kicked off. I know a lot of people
don't count preseason, but I'm not one of those guys.
We've got football being played. I'm stoked about it. I
amped up. I mean of oars trying to get me
(13:00):
to take a cycle of something which I'm gonna hold
off on.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
I've got him, drive him good, nice.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
But I know Jeremiah is a rookie, and so there's
probably a little bit of a cause for just patience
and caution before you throw him into two meaningless games.
But they didn't put Tyler out year as the number
one running back on the depth chart. I'm not sure
what to make of that. Is there a word of
(13:26):
him not you know, maybe being as far along as
they had hoped. Is they're concerned about some of that
or is it simply just like, hey, we need to
get into the preseast or to the regular season because
he's gonna you know, share a lot of the load
with where we drafted him.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
I mean, look, they're never gonna say this, Okay, righty,
but it's year one. You don't have your quarterback situation
sorted out. I I think like there's a there's a
chashit admitage that like, let's not run this kid, who
we think is really special, Let's not run his mileage
(14:00):
up in year one, you know, and let's not put
the weight to the world on his shoulders in year
one because we're probably not contending for a super Bowl
this year, you know. And again, like they're never gonna
say that, but the reality is they stopped that running
back room, and they have James Connors back, they have
(14:22):
Tyler Algier coming over from Atlanta. Algiero is actually a
situation just like this when Vijon Robinson was a rookie
in Atlanta. And so like, I think the idea here
is like let's let's use let's, of course, you know,
try to develop our the third overall pick, and let's
like use the third overall pick strategically to try to
(14:44):
win games. But let's not run them into the ground.
Because I think ultimately the part of the plan there
is Jeremiah Love can be to whoever the young quarterback
is coming in there next year, what Zeke Elliott was
to Dak Prescott or what Todd Gurley was to Jared Goff.
In other words, like he can be such an important
piece of helping to develop your young quarterback and be
(15:09):
a core piece of trying to take advantage of that
quarterback being on a rookie contract. You know, I don't
know that they see a ton of sense and just
you know, trying to get an eighteen hundred yards season.
Speaker 7 (15:22):
Out of him in year one.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
If if it goes that way, it goes that way.
But I think the idea is to manage him managers
work load year one, so they have have a guy
who is at the top of his game and really rolling.

In the year two.

My last question is I've been looking at, you know,
just the defensive fronts of the different teams, and the
one that keeps jumping out at me is the New
York Giants. Now they have Thibodeaux coming off of the
bench behind Carter, but you gotta believe in pass passing situations,
They're going to run a NASCAR set where they put
(15:59):
Thibodeau in they they're gonna have Abdual Carter in there.
They're gonna they're gonna pepper that and mix that with
Rville Reese.
Speaker 6 (16:06):
I know they're playing Reese as a linebacker. R Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
And then they had Brian Burns on the other side.
Like this, it's potentially the best defensive group collection of
pass rushers potentially in the National Football League. What like
is that being talked about right now in terms of

in the circles that that you're in or is it
maybe I'm overstating it a little bit.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
No, I know, I think like that's there and I
think like to some degree LeVar that was there last
year too. I mean, obviously Reese wasn't there, but like
I think there was that feeling that there was a
lot that they would be able to do with the
group that they had, and I I look at like
where the Giants are and I actually think the talent

has been there for a year or two now and
and like whether or not they can capitalize on that
and and.

Where they're at like we'll see.

But to me, like that's been Like I think that's
why you bring in John Harbaugh. And it's not just
with those players along the defensive front, they've got a
chance to be really good in that area. I mean
just look across the board, and you know on the
offensive line you got Andrew Thomas, and you've got now Francis.
Now we Noah, you have elite neighbors. We'll see about him,
(17:29):
you know, with the knee and everything. But like the
talents and deniable you know you have on the defensive
side of the ball. In the secondary, you brought in
Paul s Lativo from from New Orleans, brought in you know,
you you have you hope you get a little bit
more out of Banks now. So look, I always I
felt like there was talent and ability on that roster
(17:50):
for a while. Now it's just going to be a
matter of harvesting it. And I do think that, you know,
there's reason for hope that not only John Harbor, but
the staff that he put together.

Is gonna be able to bring the best.

a question for you, man. I know Jonas wants to
get you off there as soon as possible. The Notre
Dame Southern cal Robbery is back. Is that good in
your mind for college football? Are you kind of looking
at those thinking why we have to wait four years?

Of course, I think it's I mean, I don't know, Brady,
You're closer to this one than me, for sure, But
I think it's a ludicrous that they're not playing, Like
I think it's insane that they're not playing.

Like to me, that's.

What college football is, you know, like the rivalries. I'd
say the rivalries are more important to college football than
maybe almost any other sport that we've got in this country,
you know. And so the fact that like anybody thought
it was a good idea not to play that game
anymore is crazy. And I wish somebody would step in
and say, like, this is stupid, let's just start playing.

How do you feel about it being played in Week one?
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Nobody.

I don't like it.

I don't like it either because it's it's literally I basically,
here's what I'd say from the ninder name perspective, is
obviously this is what SC wanted in every way. You know,
they didn't want to play the game so that I
don't have to. And now when they play the game,
they get to play it when they want early in
the season instead of traditionally how it's supposed to be played,
right it was supposed to be, you know, SC would
(21:49):
come out to Notre Dame when the fall leaves would
start to turn sometime in October, which plays at their
advantage because the weather never gets too bad.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
For those games. It's usually like a hint of fall.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
And then Notre Dame goes out at the end of
the season where it's obviously still nice weather for them
both sides of it, but they go to their house
to play during Thanksgiving. So I just it felt like,
you know, they basically got what they wanted in every way,
although they'll never say that.

And by the way, who knows if you know.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
How much things can change between now and when they
play these games, you know, it might not even be
like Riley Margus Freeman.

You know, we don't know what that's going to look like.

I just I want to touch on that, and I
want to ask you about some comments Botkyle Woodingham last
week at the Big Ten Media Days, he made a
comment about the rivalry with Ohio State, and he said,
you know, there's a lot of respect there, but there
doesn't need to be hatred. Do you do you feel
like Ohio State fans would see it the same way
(22:47):
or do you think they look at this rivalry and
say No, there's hatred there.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Like you're just trying to like play nice. That's not
how this works. Brady.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
How do you think of State fans feel about that?
You think they hate Michigan? I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
I'm not saying this in any disrespectful way. The comment
when he said it came off to me. It was like, Okay,
he doesn't understand. I mean I asked Bryce under with this. Yeah, dude,
I said to him, my, go, did you fully understand
the ribbaly until you played in it? And he goes, honestly, no,
He goes, everyone told me about it. I knew about it.
(23:24):
There was a lot of hype. And he goes, until
I played in it, I understood what it meant and
when you lose one of those games, what it feels
like and everything else. He said, Now I get it.
I'm like, have you shared that with your coach? He's like, oh,
you know, he kind of like skirted the question. But
the reality is is I don't think anyone understands until
you get into it, even until you go to it
(23:44):
and you see how the fans interact with one another
and towards one another.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
It's not I mean, I Like the immediate thing I
thought of was John Cooper and like how like he
was the coach when I was there for the first
three years I was there, and like I felt like
he was chasing things that he had said his entire
time there, you know what I mean, Like, and it
was they were always changing the way they approached it,
Like one year all the focus would be on it,
(24:10):
the next year, like they were trust treating it like
another game and it and it was like this fundamental
like and I think John Cooper was a really good coach,
but like there was this fundamental like he could never
fully wrap his arms around the philosophy for approaching the game.
And I think that that created a problem within the
program where they the players almost didn't know how to
(24:33):
approach it and would get overwhelmed in the moment. So
I thought the exact same thing, Brady. I when when
I when I saw that comment, it was just immediately
like if this guy doesn't win, Like if this guy
does not win the first like as what everyone's immediately
going to go back to, Yeah, it's going to be
chasing that. And that's the thing, you know what I mean.

Like it's like when you say something like that. It's
like okay, like that's fine, and like I understand what
you're trying to do here, but like these sorts of
things like it's unique in that way too, and that
like people aren't gonna forget that he saw it that
that he said that, And you get to November and
you know you're in Columbus, Ohio and it's it's forty

five to five, forty five to seven or something like.
That's what everyone's going to be thinking about. That's what
Joel Clatt and Gus Johnson are gonna be talking about
on the broadcast, and it'd be something that would help
follow him for an entire year after that. So and
I even do you guys see Urban's reaction?

He had been fun on Twitter. He just started retweeting
a couple of things, and yeah that was good.

agreement in place with a lead investor. They've also said
we're seeing strong interests from more than a dozen additional
parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi

partner model built for long term stability and growth. And
most notably, our next chapter will make our players the
majority equity holders in Live Golf, a first for a
major global sports league and gives the league the foundation
to keep growing the game worldwide. So congratulations, that's how

you do it. That never say die attitude, the will
to compete in person.

We got to thread the deal here though, because LeVar
hates talking about golf, but this isn't just golf, LeVar.
This is about a business and my question to you is,
and I know you're not a huge golf fan, but
how can you.

How can you foresee this thing actually working? Because I don't.
I don't actually see a light at the end of
the tunnel. I think this is fine.

They're partnering with and getting some capital and fused in them,
but they don't really have a great media rights deal,
and or at least it's hard to do so, I
should say, because of the way they're schedule iss you know,
you're playing I think what five of the events are
going to be overseas five in the US, and the
timing of all that. The shot I couldn't start with,
which they use where everyone tees off from a different hole.
(29:04):
That makes a bit more difficult too, to be able to,
you know, fill in this prolonged you know, series of
shots that you see, and especially for live betting standards,
you know, you get a lot of.

Things move on at the same time.

So sometimes when you see shots that are taken it's
actually you know, in the past, you know that it's
like that already happened, already occurs. You can't really even
bet on it. So there's a lot of roadblocks. I mean,
is there a business idea, You've got to make this
thing go no on, I figured, uh, And in my mind,
(29:37):
I'm thinking, like, man, is there there's always a business
to something.

It's just a matter of if that business makes make sense.

This is becoming, like I'll just say, a second tier
rate tour compared to the PGA Tour.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
That was not how it was originally created, right. They
tried to, you know.

Use paying off guys so much so that like there
was a thought that hey, man, if you do this
in golf, maybe you can do this in other sports too,
if you have enough.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Money to do it.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
And clearly the you know, the PITH got tired of,
you know, putting money into something that wasn't really giving
them back a return.
Speaker 6 (30:12):
And there's their lives, the whole the truth.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
The market spoke on the live tour, and if I
were saying is there a business connected to it? I
would like to know what the investors looked at in
terms of what was the value of what they're putting
money behind. What are they putting money into it for?
Are they bringing something to the table that by them
(30:36):
having this asset, they're able to generate a profit. Are
they looking at the data of what the tour, because
maybe that's what they're purchasing, is the data that that
they've been able to generate, and they're going to try
to get their money back out of that. I mean,
(30:57):
there's got to be a reason why they put money
into a tour that basically in essence is saving the tour.
Speaker 6 (31:03):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Yeah, I mean it goes out of business if this
this company doesn't invest in them.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Weren't they expecting that the announcement was going to be
that they were closing up shop and they come out
and said, hey, now we found a lead investor.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
We've got this thing from. Where is this lead investor from? Again?
Do we know?
Speaker 4 (31:21):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
So that's well, that's interesting. Is that a tappic? Should
that be a tat Okay, maybe it's not concerning that
you apparently I almost feel like it should be a
tad bit concerning if there's no no real clarity on
especially as you know, if we're looking at it from
(31:43):
the American standpoint, where would you prefer he was from
if you had a I don't know that it's a heat.
I'm just thinking. I'm just thinking, can I name sure
cave verdet if they were putting the money in and
they wanted that.

If they wanted.

Toto's on the line, if they wanted that to be
the Yeah, I ain't gonna lie to you.

I would go, I put a suit on or a

golf polos from from a Lance you know, golden domer
up on Cape Yeah, you know, and I'd be in
Cape Verdi watching golf one.

And that would be a bit. You know.

We did mention the cheerleaders in the first preseason game,
well sunk their teeth.

We didn't expand on that real quick.

I would just say this, so clevelandn't have chillers and
obviously like that was not as big of a focus.
But it's hard not to see them if you get
played and drafted the Washington because that must have been
and again I you know, I was there during the
time when Dan Schneider was there. We had good ones
was the owner, but no and I think that was
by design, like he made sure that it would distract

and grab your attention.

And there was a lot of them, and I just
remember going to Washington.

Thinking, well, we don't have this, and uh it was
it was like you definitely, you definitely were very aware
of the cheerleaders that were present there in Washington.

Texas girls, but Washington, DC's cheerleading squads historically, I don't
know how it is now.

There's not more optimism, uh that the Live Tour is
going to be able to persevere and come through this
whole thing with a with a legitimate tour. People are
gonna gonna be excited about. I don't understand why, Why
is every I've got to be so negative towards this
whole thing. You know, you you golf blowhards are all
the same man. You want everything PGA, you want everything tradition.
Somebody rolls in and says, you know what, our guys

can wear shorts, and everybody's got a problem with it.

was like pretty exciting.

Well yeah, well that's the problem is there's equity going
back to the PGA Tour players for being a part
of the TGL. There's a portion of that. So that's
the model in order to get them enticed about staying
and playing because they could potentially have that big exit.
I mean, think about a pro golfer's career. You got
to be playing in order to earn money, you know,
if you're not playing, to earning money, so whether it's
(35:42):
from sponsors or even just your success. So that's part
of the play and I think in order to get
this thing jump started. But you touched on a great point,
and that is the golf fan d bag that it's tough.

Man. It can be a very very tough culture to deal.

With, you know.

Just yeah, I just I feel like I'm gonna have
to run into a little bit of this coming up

I get there like they're big in your life. They're

underdiscussed team in the division. The Packers are getting talked
about because of how the season finished last year post

Bears and Ben Jhonson Caleb Williams love affair. The Vikings

have their quarterback issues, and it feels like and I
don't know if you kind of feel the same way
that Detroit's kind of sliding.

Under the radar, but with a really, really good roster.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
I would agree with that. Like, I think it's it's
just interesting because I think we we always talk about
teams that are on the way up, and you know,
I think what happens is like a team like that
that was on the way up, on the way up,
on the way up, and then failed to live up
to ex stactations when they got so close to the mountaintop,
(04:10):
like three. A lot of times those teams get back burnered.
And I mean the reality is like if you look
at like their contract in the negotiation the room right
now with Jamir Gibbs and all these guys they've re signed,
I mean, I you know, you're talking about them having
to make some hard decisions now on guys. It's because
they've drafted and developed so well. And you can go
(04:31):
down the list and and and and Joseph's to your point, like,
you know, Jamiir Gibbs is just the latest Amna, Ross
Saint Brown, Jamison Williams. You know, Jared Goff is now
on his second contract in Detroit. Aiden Hutchinson, Jack Campbell.
I think Brian Branch will eventually get a second contract.
So yeah, there are a lot of good players in
(04:52):
that team, you know. And I think I obviously haven't
been there yet, but like I I think the vibe
I've gotten is a little bit of uh, you know,
like they feel they feel just the way that you're you're,
you're you're describing.

And I think they feel a little overlooked.

M speaking of just I mean Jimmy Gibbs obviously next
up to get a deal list in the running back market.
Save Flowers just got his deal done and has a
lot of guaranteed money. Man, And I look at guys
like Pook and a Coup and I look at some
of the other guys out there, I'm thinking, I mean,
Save Flowers has been good. He hasn't had the production
that Pooka Nakua has. No, he also hasn't had the

off the field issue like Pook and Akua. Jonas can
get into the biting aspect of things, but I want
to focus more on the business of football.

Yeah, Well, some.

People think it's a vampire, so there's a recent chance
he made.

Well, let's let's take it. Let's take a bite out
of the subject and let's get that to one.

Uh, what the implications of the Zay Flowers contract will
mean for other wide receivers, because I feel like based
on the total guarantees, based on the average annual salary,
I know, it always keeps going up and up and up.
There's a lot of receivers that have had more production
than him that I think are looking to say, all right,
hold on secon I need to reset the market again.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Then yeah, I mean, I think Brady, it affects guys
at every position, you know, like I think when you
start to see I don't want to I don't want
this to sound to come off come off the wrong way.
But when you take you guys kind of the second
tier at his position, that's fair to say about about
day Flowers, right, you know, and and and and he's
(06:48):
getting thirty five million dollars per year. I mean, man,
the dynamics has changed, you know. So now I think
if you're somebody like Pooka, you're well within your eyes
say well if he's worth that. And Will Anderson got
fifty you know, as a top non quarterback, and then
you got Aiden Hutchinson at forty five, and you got
(07:09):
Micah Parsons at forty six, like I should be well
above where Jamar Chase and Jackson Smith and Jacoba and
those guys are because the different forces in the in
the market have driven that price north. So I'm with you,
you know, I and I think this is part of
the cost for the Rams of waiting to this point
(07:32):
of the offseason. Now they have a good reason to
do that because of all the off field stuff and
puk are going to rehab and everything else. So you
one hundred percent understand why they wait. But you know,
there's also there also can be a price to waiting
even within an off season, not even waiting a year,
waiting two years, even with a even waiting within an
(07:54):
off season can come at a price, And I think
that's that's something that's definitely definitely there, and who can
going negotiation?
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Abe, we got a couple quarterback competitions. I made the
point yesterday, and I looked it up a little bit
more after and really tried to find if there was
a real quarterback competition taking place and that team ended
up having a good season or ended up being a
(08:24):
good team. It's hard, It was hard to find anything
on it. How how should we be measuring engaging whoever
wins in Cleveland or whoever wins it in Minnesota? How
should we be gauging, you know, in terms of what
we believe the success level of those teams will be?
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Yeah, I mean Atlanta too, I guess Atlanta, Yeah, Atlanta, Yeah,
yeah yeah, And I and I think you're probably I
mean I I think what you're probably getting now, var
is like a quarterback competition. It isn't like a first
round pick trying win the job, right like it isn't
like the right That isn't like a rookie first round
pick trying to win the job.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
And and these are certainly different this that this way,
like in that way, and like where you know, the
two of them, you know, Atlanta and and and Minnesota,
you have a first round pick for two years ago
trying to hang on and a new guy coming in, and.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Then obviously Cleveland's Cleveland. So I I guess it goes
back to that a whole that old like if you
don't if you have two quarterbacks, you have none, saying,
but I can't think of too many where a guy
came out and outright one in a completely open competition
and camp. I'm sure it's happened at some point recently,
(09:41):
but I just I can't think of an example.
Speaker 8 (09:45):
Sam Darnold, But you know, I just yeah, But I like,
like you're saying, two years ago, like Sam, if you remember,
like that didn't really run true camp, and like Sam
had never Sam was never like kind of knocked off
of working with the one.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
So I like maybe two years ago last year he
was sort of entrenched as a starter in Seattle. There
just aren't a lot of examples of it. I think
there are a couple of reasons why. I Number one, like,
if you don't have a clear cut starter, then obviously
you're probably dealing with lesser players in the position, and
that's just logical, right. And then number two, I think
(10:22):
there is something to be said for a team knowing
who its quarterback is, you know, and that quarterback getting
a full off season at work with his teammates. So
there are probably a couple of reasons why he usually
doesn't work out, But it will certainly be interesting to
see the way that all that plays that. You know what,
I would say, go back to like the Bill O'Brien
(10:43):
Houston teams. I bet you can find an example or
two in there of one of those teams or two
of those teams going to the playoffs when they had
a competition that camp record to Shan.

you look is maybe they take a step back and
last year was a little fluky.

I mean, I the way I look at them, Jones,
I've seen them as kind of being rock solid. Like
that doesn't mean they're overwhelming, because I don't think they
have I mean, outside of Patches er Dan, I don't
know if they have like a true superstar anywhere on
that roster. But they also don't have any holes, and

they have depths in a lot of key places. Like
they're deep in corner, they're deep with task rushers, their
offensive lines solid all the way across. They're deep with receivers,
they're deep with running backs. So like I can understand
where people might look at them and say, well, you
know what, the AFC was down last year and they
benefited from a lot of the same things New England

benefited from. And I think some of that is true.
I think the flip side of it is like that's
a really welcomeceived team that has real talents on the roster,
that has real depths on the roster, and it's really
well coached.

I still think I think they're a playoff team in
the baseline, and how far do they take it from there.

we were just talking about It's a football Thursday for us, buddy,

don't count preseason, but I'm not one of those guys.
We've got football being played. I'm stoked about it. I
amped up. I mean of oars trying to get me

to take a cycle of something which I'm gonna hold
off on.

But I know Jeremiah is a rookie, and so there's
probably a little bit of a cause for just patience
and caution before you throw him into two meaningless games.
But they didn't put Tyler out year as the number
one running back on the depth chart. I'm not sure
what to make of that. Is there a word of

him not you know, maybe being as far along as
they had hoped. Is they're concerned about some of that
or is it simply just like, hey, we need to
get into the preseast or to the regular season because
he's gonna you know, share a lot of the load
with where we drafted him.

I mean, look, they're never gonna say this, Okay, righty,
but it's year one. You don't have your quarterback situation
sorted out. I I think like there's a there's a
chashit admitage that like, let's not run this kid, who
we think is really special, Let's not run his mileage

up in year one, you know, and let's not put
the weight to the world on his shoulders in year
one because we're probably not contending for a super Bowl
this year, you know. And again, like they're never gonna
say that, but the reality is they stopped that running
back room, and they have James Connors back, they have

Tyler Algier coming over from Atlanta. Algiero is actually a
situation just like this when Vijon Robinson was a rookie
in Atlanta. And so like, I think the idea here
is like let's let's use let's, of course, you know,
try to develop our the third overall pick, and let's
like use the third overall pick strategically to try to

win games. But let's not run them into the ground.
Because I think ultimately the part of the plan there
is Jeremiah Love can be to whoever the young quarterback
is coming in there next year, what Zeke Elliott was
to Dak Prescott or what Todd Gurley was to Jared Goff.
In other words, like he can be such an important
piece of helping to develop your young quarterback and be

a core piece of trying to take advantage of that
quarterback being on a rookie contract. You know, I don't
know that they see a ton of sense and just
you know, trying to get an eighteen hundred yards season.

Out of him in year one.

If if it goes that way, it goes that way.
But I think the idea is to manage him managers
work load year one, so they have have a guy
who is at the top of his game and really rolling.

My last question is I've been looking at, you know,
just the defensive fronts of the different teams, and the
one that keeps jumping out at me is the New
York Giants. Now they have Thibodeaux coming off of the

They're going to run a NASCAR set where they put

Thibodeau in they they're gonna have Abdual Carter in there.
They're gonna they're gonna pepper that and mix that with
Rville Reese.

And then they had Brian Burns on the other side.
Like this, it's potentially the best defensive group collection of
pass rushers potentially in the National Football League. What like
is that being talked about right now in terms of

No, I know, I think like that's there and I
think like to some degree LeVar that was there last
year too. I mean, obviously Reese wasn't there, but like
I think there was that feeling that there was a
lot that they would be able to do with the
group that they had, and I I look at like
where the Giants are and I actually think the talent

has been there for a year or two now and
and like whether or not they can capitalize on that
and and.

But to me, like that's been Like I think that's
why you bring in John Harbaugh. And it's not just
with those players along the defensive front, they've got a
chance to be really good in that area. I mean
just look across the board, and you know on the
offensive line you got Andrew Thomas, and you've got now Francis.
Now we Noah, you have elite neighbors. We'll see about him,

you know, with the knee and everything. But like the
talents and deniable you know you have on the defensive
side of the ball. In the secondary, you brought in
Paul s Lativo from from New Orleans, brought in you know,
you you have you hope you get a little bit
more out of Banks now. So look, I always I
felt like there was talent and ability on that roster

for a while. Now it's just going to be a
matter of harvesting it. And I do think that, you know,
there's reason for hope that not only John Harbor, but
the staff that he put together.

they get to play it when they want early in
the season instead of traditionally how it's supposed to be played,
right it was supposed to be, you know, SC would

come out to Notre Dame when the fall leaves would
start to turn sometime in October, which plays at their
advantage because the weather never gets too bad.

For those games. It's usually like a hint of fall.

And then Notre Dame goes out at the end of
the season where it's obviously still nice weather for them
both sides of it, but they go to their house
to play during Thanksgiving. So I just it felt like,
you know, they basically got what they wanted in every way,
although they'll never say that.

How much things can change between now and when they
play these games, you know, it might not even be
like Riley Margus Freeman.

want to ask you about some comments Botkyle Woodingham last
week at the Big Ten Media Days, he made a
comment about the rivalry with Ohio State, and he said,
you know, there's a lot of respect there, but there
doesn't need to be hatred. Do you do you feel
like Ohio State fans would see it the same way

or do you think they look at this rivalry and
say No, there's hatred there.

Like you're just trying to like play nice. That's not

How do you think of State fans feel about that?
You think they hate Michigan? I mean, I don't know.

I'm not saying this in any disrespectful way. The comment
when he said it came off to me. It was like, Okay,
he doesn't understand. I mean I asked Bryce under with this. Yeah, dude,
I said to him, my, go, did you fully understand
the ribbaly until you played in it? And he goes, honestly, no,
He goes, everyone told me about it. I knew about it.

There was a lot of hype. And he goes, until
I played in it, I understood what it meant and
when you lose one of those games, what it feels
like and everything else. He said, Now I get it.
I'm like, have you shared that with your coach? He's like, oh,
you know, he kind of like skirted the question. But
the reality is is I don't think anyone understands until
you get into it, even until you go to it

and you see how the fans interact with one another
and towards one another.

It's not I mean, I Like the immediate thing I
thought of was John Cooper and like how like he
was the coach when I was there for the first
three years I was there, and like I felt like
he was chasing things that he had said his entire
time there, you know what I mean, Like, and it
was they were always changing the way they approached it,
Like one year all the focus would be on it,

the next year, like they were trust treating it like
another game and it and it was like this fundamental
like and I think John Cooper was a really good coach,
but like there was this fundamental like he could never
fully wrap his arms around the philosophy for approaching the game.
And I think that that created a problem within the
program where they the players almost didn't know how to

approach it and would get overwhelmed in the moment. So
I thought the exact same thing, Brady. I when when
I when I saw that comment, it was just immediately
like if this guy doesn't win, Like if this guy
does not win the first like as what everyone's immediately
going to go back to, Yeah, it's going to be
chasing that. And that's the thing, you know what I mean.

Like it's like when you say something like that. It's
like okay, like that's fine, and like I understand what
you're trying to do here, but like these sorts of
things like it's unique in that way too, and that
like people aren't gonna forget that he saw it that
that he said that, And you get to November and
you know you're in Columbus, Ohio and it's it's forty

five to five, forty five to seven or something like.
That's what everyone's going to be thinking about. That's what
Joel Clatt and Gus Johnson are gonna be talking about
on the broadcast, and it'd be something that would help
follow him for an entire year after that. So and

I don't actually see a light at the end of
the tunnel. I think this is fine.

They're partnering with and getting some capital and fused in them,
but they don't really have a great media rights deal,
and or at least it's hard to do so, I
should say, because of the way they're schedule iss you know,
you're playing I think what five of the events are
going to be overseas five in the US, and the
timing of all that. The shot I couldn't start with,
which they use where everyone tees off from a different hole.

That makes a bit more difficult too, to be able to,
you know, fill in this prolonged you know, series of
shots that you see, and especially for live betting standards,
you know, you get a lot of.

Things move on at the same time.

So sometimes when you see shots that are taken it's
actually you know, in the past, you know that it's
like that already happened, already occurs. You can't really even
bet on it. So there's a lot of roadblocks. I mean,
is there a business idea, You've got to make this
thing go no on, I figured, uh, And in my mind,

I'm thinking, like, man, is there there's always a business
to something.

It's just a matter of if that business makes make sense.

This is becoming, like I'll just say, a second tier
rate tour compared to the PGA Tour.

That was not how it was originally created, right. They
tried to, you know.

Use paying off guys so much so that like there
was a thought that hey, man, if you do this
in golf, maybe you can do this in other sports too,
if you have enough.

Money to do it.

And clearly the you know, the PITH got tired of,
you know, putting money into something that wasn't really giving
them back a return.

And there's their lives, the whole the truth.

The market spoke on the live tour, and if I
were saying is there a business connected to it? I
would like to know what the investors looked at in
terms of what was the value of what they're putting
money behind. What are they putting money into it for?
Are they bringing something to the table that by them

having this asset, they're able to generate a profit. Are
they looking at the data of what the tour, because
maybe that's what they're purchasing, is the data that that
they've been able to generate, and they're going to try
to get their money back out of that. I mean,
(30:57):
there's got to be a reason why they put money
into a tour that basically in essence is saving the tour.

Correct.

Yeah, I mean it goes out of business if this
this company doesn't invest in them.

Weren't they expecting that the announcement was going to be
that they were closing up shop and they come out
and said, hey, now we found a lead investor.

We've got this thing from. Where is this lead investor from? Again?
Do we know?

I don't know.

So that's well, that's interesting. Is that a tappic? Should
that be a tat Okay, maybe it's not concerning that
you apparently I almost feel like it should be a
tad bit concerning if there's no no real clarity on
especially as you know, if we're looking at it from

the American standpoint, where would you prefer he was from
if you had a I don't know that it's a heat.
I'm just thinking. I'm just thinking, can I name sure
cave verdet if they were putting the money in and
they wanted that.

played and drafted the Washington because that must have been

Texas girls, but Washington, DC's cheerleading squads historically, I don't
know how it is now.

I'll never forget being in one particular place. And I
had a dude, go, man, I saw her last night.

There's not more optimism, uh that the Live Tour is
going to be able to persevere and come through this
whole thing with a with a legitimate tour. People are
gonna gonna be excited about. I don't understand why, Why
is every I've got to be so negative towards this

the same man. You want everything PGA, you want everything tradition.
Somebody rolls in and says, you know what, our guys

can wear shorts, and everybody's got a problem with it.

I just started doing the virtual Golf deal and that
was like pretty exciting.

back to the PGA Tour players for being a part
of the TGL. There's a portion of that. So that's
the model in order to get them enticed about staying
and playing because they could potentially have that big exit.
I mean, think about a pro golfer's career. You got
to be playing in order to earn money, you know,
if you're not playing, to earning money, so whether it's

from sponsors or even just your success. So that's part
of the play and I think in order to get
this thing jump started. But you touched on a great point,
and that is the golf fan d bag that it's tough.

Man. It can be a very very tough culture to deal.

Just yeah, I just I feel like I'm gonna have
to run into a little bit of this coming up

about that is I get it for the golf guys

I get there like they're big in your life. They're

not bigger than your family, they're not bigger than your job.
It's not the flipping super Bowl. Just go out and

iron over your knee or a tree or get into
