The Indianapolis Colts and star running back Jonathan Taylor have
agreed to terms on a big time two year, forty
four million dollar extension. According to Ian Rappaport and Adam Schefter,
forty seven million dollars is the max. With thirty nine
million dollars guaranteed, he has a total value of sixty
(06:53):
million dollars. It averages nineteen million per year over the
entirety of the deal. So he You know, we saw
the Bjon Robinson contract get done, and now Jonathan Taylor.

Reeps for a couple of years as.

Somewhere Pete Prisco is kicking something in his hotel room
or whatever training camp Toy's on because another running back
just got rewarded with a whole bunch of cash.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
You know, it's wild. I mean, it feels like Jonathan
Taylor's been in the NFL for like a decade and
he got into the NFL early from Wisconsin. It'll only
be a seventh year, but this is huge for him
in the sense of a couple of things. The first
is it's enticing to all those running backs who are
at the college level too. You can get you know,
(07:40):
a number of deals from your rookie deal to a
second contract and maybe another extension from that if you're
able to prove yourself. Very similar to Jonathan Taylor, who
burst on the scene over a thousand yards his rookie
year and then was able to lead the league in
rushing in year two. So he's had some issues though
staying healthy, and I think that's where last season so
important for him. You know, led the league in rushing touchdowns,
(08:03):
led the league in attempts I believe too, and rushed
for over fifteen hundred yards, So he was able to
prove that he was able to still healthy for all
seventeen games. Kind of had this payday on the horizon
for him. And he's an integral part of their team.
I mean, he completely makes that offense work, whether it's
Daniel Jones or anyone else. When he's able to tote
the rock, they're a different animal to deal with offensively speaking.
(08:26):
So happy for him. He's a tremendous guy, good young
man for anyone who's ever talked to him, dealt with him.
He's an awesome dude. And I know Pete Prisco won't
be happy about it, but I think in other ways
he'll admit that, you know, you pay a guy like
this who's proven to be productive. And on top of that,
it's a two year deal, so it's not like you're
(08:47):
handcuffing yourself to you know, five more years, and of
you know, a bunch of guarantees and it's essentially almost
a fully guaranteed deal, which again is awesome for him,
awesome for his agency too.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
To be able to negotiate something like that when he's healthy. See,
he's as good as any of them out there. And
at one point, at one point he was in the
conversation for a best running back in the league for
certain Yeah, so yeah, yeah, I was gonna say.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
It's funny though he entered the league into a time
where I don't know that we'll see that again. I mean,
Jeremiah Love obviously entered after three years. We we kind
of saw that with him. Different style of back though,
you know, his he kind of touched on, you know,
kind of the airback deal and a guy who can
split out, play wide receiver, do a bunch of different things.
(09:33):
I mean, Jonathan Taylor is a you know, coming out
of Wisconsin between the tackles kind of you know, one
one step get downhill north north south runner, and the
passing game element to his game has evolved. But it
wasn't you know, that wasn't one of the big highlights
necessarily coming out of college. But he's definitely been able
to continue to get better and better and better at that.
(09:54):
But the reason why I bring this up is, you know,
those running backs get paid a decent amount now in
college to stay for nil. Like if you were a
top running back and you you know, are like produced
at lower levels, you can get paid a million bucks.
You can get paid a couple of million bucks. And
so given that the way that running back position is
viewed for the draft, you know, this year was a
(10:17):
rare year. We had two guys drafted in the first round.
It just doesn't happen very often. So if that's the case,
like some of these guys are saying, yeah, I'll go
ahead and exhaust all my eligibility in college because I
can make seven figures and I can and they'll still
take care of me because they got to play all
of them. You know, even the Penn State running backs,
like they're gonna share reps right in part because at
(10:38):
the college level that they're very cognizant of not wanting
to take too much tread off the tire before they
get to the NFL, and they're pitching that to these
kids like, hey, you're all going to play. I mean
even last year there was a freshman in Notre Dame,
a Nice Williams who a Niace Williams, who was who
was mixing in as a freshman. When you have Jeremiah
Love and Genarian Price, who are two first round picks
(10:59):
on your US are playing. So it's it's a different
world now. And I don't know that we'll see a
guy like Jonathan Taylor, who is a true in between
the tackles back coming out of college that ran the
football a good amount for the time he was there.
You know, leave and get in early. I think they're
getting compensated enough now where it's valued at the college level,
(11:21):
and they're getting there, they're they're make sure they're taking
care of them too.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
You mentioned the workload nine hundred and twenty six carries
at Wisconsin in three years, and I think lot, I
think only herschel Walker has more during a three year
stretch at nine ninety four. Wow, during a three years.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Well, and think about this, I mean herschel Walker obviously
played less games per year then, but go back to
what was he playing twelve games a year and maybe
in a even you know, Bowl game or Big ten championship.
I don't know if they made it there.

Maybe once played forty one games, yeah, I mean somewhere
and tear Man, Well, think about it.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
So they grabbaging out three hundred carries per year at
the college level. He's only done that three times in
his NFL career and you're playing seventeen games now something
it's been health related, but you can get my point.
Like when he's played seventeen games, he's been over that.
I mean, I guess twenty twenty four he had a
bunch of carries too, you know, in less games. But

He has hired Win Sports Group to represent him in

contract negotiations. So have fun with that Win Sports Group
when the Rams say, oh, you want that much guaranteed,
and they slide a picture across the table of somebody
eating another human being and say, that's the guy you're
trying to get that record money for. So I don't
know what sort of negotiations this is going to turn into,

but I feel like the Rams have a case to
be made that they can't necessarily trust this guy off
the field at this point in time. Maybe you should
come back to us later with some of these demands.

at it this way, if he gets a frontier, at

five for five college football situation with eligibility? Is there
any sort of have we come to an agreement on anything?

Or where do things stand with this whole this whole situation.
It feels like there are so many things that are
playing out in the courts nowadays. It's hard to keep
track of when it comes to college football.

What's that sure? You guys can hear me? Judge? Hello,
Oh okay, I was just said. I don't think I
was up. Initially, there's a judge out in Denver that
basically ruled for the twenty twenty two class. So the
clarification that they provided was you couldn't you couldn't have
signed a pro contract. So anyone who had that fifth

year of eligibility that was a part of that class
coming into college, if you signed with the CFL team,
if you signed with an NFL team, you weren't able
to come back. There was a thought that there would
be this big, you know, flux of players who maybe
didn't make it, or a fringe player one to come
back for another year try to improve their draft stock
or their draft ability. But there's been clarification on that.
(27:38):
And the other part is even if you could take
a player or two back, most these rosters are set
at this point. I mean, your season's coming up here
in a couple of weeks. So it's hard to think
that a lot of these teams would be willing and
able to even make room or or be able to
give these players what they're looking for. So that clarification
has been made. Still crazy to me is there was

a clip of Justin Flow, who was I believe like
a top ten, top eleven prospect in the tune, I
think he would he was in CJ. Stroud's class. He's
in Bryce Young's class. Then he made his way from
Oregon to Arizona now to UNLV. He's currently twenty, he

will be twenty five come this October of this football season.
And I just I look at this now and go
by the way, he's a freak athlete. And if you
see the clip that he's in getting this team fired
up before the start camp, yeah, and he looks like
he's about ready to put the smack down. But it
(28:42):
also lends me to think, like, wait a second, we
got dudes who are going to be seven years younger
than him, seven years young in some cases eight. Like
there's some kids who go to college at seventeen and
might be trying to play that early. I think Ryan
Williams might have for Alabama the receiver. He might have
been seventeen when he first got to Alabama. But think
about that, that man's only nineteen. He just turned nineteen

and he's in his sophomore year. Yeah, but he gets
the way the SmackDown. I'm just saying for dudes soon though,
like they're young.

What I'm saying, you're you're right like this, I mean,
there's always been that existence of an old hey could
be on the team, but yeah, you're talking about six
years older.

military or whatever it may have been that role.

more of the safety aspect of it. I don't want
to sound like a wos in saying this, but in
all seriousness, like think about the development of an eighteen
nineteen year old seventeen to nineteen year old versus like duty,

he's gonna be turning twenty five. And that's that's part
of my issue with the five for five is we
keep granting this ability for guys to stay longer and
longer at the college level, which is supposed to be
a developmental level. It's supposed to be a stop on
your way to becoming a professional, and instead now we're

prolonging that. And I've always said, like, if I was
a guy who you know, and and it's happened in
certain circumstances, But if I was a guy who you know,
got my five years, and I had something happen and
it was controversial that I could get me another year,
like you're incentivized to do that in today's nil, in
today's college environment. And the reality is it's awful for
(30:57):
what the sport is, and that's a developmental sport. As
much as we want to talk about the rivalries and
the greatest all and the money everything else, this is
not the end game. It might be for some because
they don't have the talent and or ability to go
play at the NFL level, but we've all gone crazy
and lost sight of the fact that like this is
not the end. This is not it like they will
(31:19):
have if they're good enough, a career at the next level.
And instead we keep you know, allowing agents, you know
at times, to come in here and manipulate this process
and try to eke every little dollar they can out
of the system. Instead, you're screwing over a kid who's
coming out of high school. You're you're killing that that family,
that kid's ability to then start his career. So as
(31:40):
much as it's great, it's cool, Okay, these guys can
earn money and everything else, it's like, dude, at some point,
it's got to end, you know, at some point it's
got to end. You know, Let the next wave of
guys come in and let them be the guys who
have the opportunity to experience college, you know, get an education,
all those things.

Was it Cam McCormick, the guy the tight end that
was part of Justin Herbert's draft class at Oregon.

And I think he had a.

he qualified in the COVID, which now you're going to count.
He had a bunch of medical red shirts, so that
allowed him to I want to say, you had at
least he had a normal red shirt. He had the
COVID red shirt, and I think he had at least one,
if not two medical red shirts. And then he has
four years of eligibility, so I.

got engaged. It's like he was part of that class.

The Indianapolis Colts and star running back Jonathan Taylor have
agreed to terms on a big time two year, forty
four million dollar extension. According to Ian Rappaport and Adam Schefter,
forty seven million dollars is the max. With thirty nine
million dollars guaranteed, he has a total value of sixty

million dollars. It averages nineteen million per year over the
entirety of the deal. So he You know, we saw
the Bjon Robinson contract get done, and now Jonathan Taylor.

Reeps for a couple of years as.

Somewhere Pete Prisco is kicking something in his hotel room
or whatever training camp Toy's on because another running back
just got rewarded with a whole bunch of cash.

You know, it's wild. I mean, it feels like Jonathan
Taylor's been in the NFL for like a decade and
he got into the NFL early from Wisconsin. It'll only
be a seventh year, but this is huge for him
in the sense of a couple of things. The first
is it's enticing to all those running backs who are
at the college level too. You can get you know,
(07:40):
a number of deals from your rookie deal to a
second contract and maybe another extension from that if you're
able to prove yourself. Very similar to Jonathan Taylor, who
burst on the scene over a thousand yards his rookie
year and then was able to lead the league in
rushing in year two. So he's had some issues though
staying healthy, and I think that's where last season so
important for him. You know, led the league in rushing touchdowns,
(08:03):
led the league in attempts I believe too, and rushed
for over fifteen hundred yards, So he was able to
prove that he was able to still healthy for all
seventeen games. Kind of had this payday on the horizon
for him. And he's an integral part of their team.
I mean, he completely makes that offense work, whether it's
Daniel Jones or anyone else. When he's able to tote
the rock, they're a different animal to deal with offensively speaking.

So happy for him. He's a tremendous guy, good young
man for anyone who's ever talked to him, dealt with him.
He's an awesome dude. And I know Pete Prisco won't
be happy about it, but I think in other ways
he'll admit that, you know, you pay a guy like
this who's proven to be productive. And on top of that,
it's a two year deal, so it's not like you're
(08:47):
handcuffing yourself to you know, five more years, and of
you know, a bunch of guarantees and it's essentially almost
a fully guaranteed deal, which again is awesome for him,
awesome for his agency too.

To be able to negotiate something like that when he's healthy. See,
he's as good as any of them out there. And
at one point, at one point he was in the
conversation for a best running back in the league for
certain Yeah, so yeah, yeah, I was gonna say.

It's funny though he entered the league into a time
where I don't know that we'll see that again. I mean,
Jeremiah Love obviously entered after three years. We we kind
of saw that with him. Different style of back though,
you know, his he kind of touched on, you know,
kind of the airback deal and a guy who can
split out, play wide receiver, do a bunch of different things.

I mean, Jonathan Taylor is a you know, coming out
of Wisconsin between the tackles kind of you know, one
one step get downhill north north south runner, and the
passing game element to his game has evolved. But it
wasn't you know, that wasn't one of the big highlights
necessarily coming out of college. But he's definitely been able
to continue to get better and better and better at that.
(09:54):
But the reason why I bring this up is, you know,
those running backs get paid a decent amount now in
college to stay for nil. Like if you were a
top running back and you you know, are like produced
at lower levels, you can get paid a million bucks.
You can get paid a couple of million bucks. And
so given that the way that running back position is
viewed for the draft, you know, this year was a
(10:17):
rare year. We had two guys drafted in the first round.
It just doesn't happen very often. So if that's the case,
like some of these guys are saying, yeah, I'll go
ahead and exhaust all my eligibility in college because I
can make seven figures and I can and they'll still
take care of me because they got to play all
of them. You know, even the Penn State running backs,
like they're gonna share reps right in part because at
(10:38):
the college level that they're very cognizant of not wanting
to take too much tread off the tire before they
get to the NFL, and they're pitching that to these
kids like, hey, you're all going to play. I mean
even last year there was a freshman in Notre Dame,
a Nice Williams who a Niace Williams, who was who
was mixing in as a freshman. When you have Jeremiah
Love and Genarian Price, who are two first round picks
(10:59):
on your US are playing. So it's it's a different
world now. And I don't know that we'll see a
guy like Jonathan Taylor, who is a true in between
the tackles back coming out of college that ran the
football a good amount for the time he was there.
You know, leave and get in early. I think they're
getting compensated enough now where it's valued at the college level,
(11:21):
and they're getting there, they're they're make sure they're taking
care of them too.

You mentioned the workload nine hundred and twenty six carries
at Wisconsin in three years, and I think lot, I
think only herschel Walker has more during a three year
stretch at nine ninety four. Wow, during a three years.

Well, and think about this, I mean herschel Walker obviously
played less games per year then, but go back to
what was he playing twelve games a year and maybe
in a even you know, Bowl game or Big ten championship.
I don't know if they made it there.

Maybe once played forty one games, yeah, I mean somewhere
and tear Man, Well, think about it.

So they grabbaging out three hundred carries per year at
the college level. He's only done that three times in
his NFL career and you're playing seventeen games now something

Like when he's played seventeen games, he's been over that.

five for five college football situation with eligibility? Is there
any sort of have we come to an agreement on anything?

Or where do things stand with this whole this whole situation.
It feels like there are so many things that are
playing out in the courts nowadays. It's hard to keep
track of when it comes to college football.

What's that sure? You guys can hear me? Judge? Hello,
Oh okay, I was just said. I don't think I
was up. Initially, there's a judge out in Denver that
basically ruled for the twenty twenty two class. So the
clarification that they provided was you couldn't you couldn't have
signed a pro contract. So anyone who had that fifth
(27:18):
year of eligibility that was a part of that class
coming into college, if you signed with the CFL team,
if you signed with an NFL team, you weren't able
to come back. There was a thought that there would
be this big, you know, flux of players who maybe
didn't make it, or a fringe player one to come
back for another year try to improve their draft stock
or their draft ability. But there's been clarification on that.
(27:38):
And the other part is even if you could take
a player or two back, most these rosters are set
at this point. I mean, your season's coming up here
in a couple of weeks. So it's hard to think
that a lot of these teams would be willing and
able to even make room or or be able to
give these players what they're looking for. So that clarification
has been made. Still crazy to me is there was
(28:01):
a clip of Justin Flow, who was I believe like
a top ten, top eleven prospect in the tune, I
think he would he was in CJ. Stroud's class. He's
in Bryce Young's class. Then he made his way from
Oregon to Arizona now to UNLV. He's currently twenty, he
(28:22):
will be twenty five come this October of this football season.
And I just I look at this now and go
by the way, he's a freak athlete. And if you
see the clip that he's in getting this team fired
up before the start camp, yeah, and he looks like
he's about ready to put the smack down. But it
(28:42):
also lends me to think, like, wait a second, we
got dudes who are going to be seven years younger
than him, seven years young in some cases eight. Like
there's some kids who go to college at seventeen and
might be trying to play that early. I think Ryan
Williams might have for Alabama the receiver. He might have
been seventeen when he first got to Alabama. But think
about that, that man's only nineteen. He just turned nineteen
(29:03):
and he's in his sophomore year. Yeah, but he gets
the way the SmackDown. I'm just saying for dudes soon though,
like they're young.

What I'm saying, you're you're right like this, I mean,
there's always been that existence of an old hey could
be on the team, but yeah, you're talking about six
years older.

military or whatever it may have been that role.

all seriousness, like think about the development of an eighteen
nineteen year old seventeen to nineteen year old versus like duty,

he's gonna be turning twenty five. And that's that's part
of my issue with the five for five is we
keep granting this ability for guys to stay longer and
longer at the college level, which is supposed to be
a developmental level. It's supposed to be a stop on
your way to becoming a professional, and instead now we're
(30:36):
prolonging that. And I've always said, like, if I was
a guy who you know, and and it's happened in
certain circumstances, But if I was a guy who you know,
got my five years, and I had something happen and
it was controversial that I could get me another year,
like you're incentivized to do that in today's nil, in
today's college environment. And the reality is it's awful for
(30:57):
what the sport is, and that's a developmental sport. As
much as we want to talk about the rivalries and
the greatest all and the money everything else, this is
not the end game. It might be for some because
they don't have the talent and or ability to go
play at the NFL level, but we've all gone crazy
and lost sight of the fact that like this is
not the end. This is not it like they will
(31:19):
have if they're good enough, a career at the next level.
And instead we keep you know, allowing agents, you know
at times, to come in here and manipulate this process
and try to eke every little dollar they can out
of the system. Instead, you're screwing over a kid who's
coming out of high school. You're you're killing that that family,
that kid's ability to then start his career. So as
(31:40):
much as it's great, it's cool, Okay, these guys can
earn money and everything else, it's like, dude, at some point,
it's got to end, you know, at some point it's
got to end. You know, Let the next wave of
guys come in and let them be the guys who
have the opportunity to experience college, you know, get an education,
all those things.

Was it Cam McCormick, the guy the tight end that
was part of Justin Herbert's draft class at Oregon.

And I think he had a.

he qualified in the COVID, which now you're going to count.
He had a bunch of medical red shirts, so that
allowed him to I want to say, you had at
least he had a normal red shirt. He had the
COVID red shirt, and I think he had at least one,
if not two medical red shirts. And then he has
four years of eligibility, so I.

other fun competitions that aren't necessarily for the most sportsmen
like well besides shacks. So he founded this new competition
called dunk Man where the world's first.

Profession like the best professional slam dunkers come together and yeah,
they do their thing. There's twenty four elite globals from
all around and they are competing for a five hundred
thousand Grand Fries and this is going on in Atlanta
right now. It's a five week competition and the final
championship will be August twenty fifth.

All right, So what was the fanciest dunk you guys.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Ever pulled off? Oh? Gosh, I mean I could probably.
I don't know. I can't do any like I could
maybe a windmill. I couldn't really do like any sort
