appreciate you doing so. And Brady Quinn, how the hell
we feel in here on this Thursday morning.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I'm feeling great, but we're also trying to discern what
the hell's happened in the NFL over this free agency
period with Trey Hendrickson, Max Crosby, the Ravens, because I
feel like there's some people lying.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
I'm just gonna laid out there like this.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
I feel like there's some people who are making up
some bs and then they're lying to us.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
It's so shady that it's hilarious that people just pass
this off as the story and the reason and the
logic behind the moves that they make, and then just
assume that everybody's just going to buy into it, or
they just think, hey, listen, even if you don't. Whatever
(02:10):
is what it is, and when the games start next year,
nobody's really going to be talking about this.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
It's just the Yeah, the whole thing is wild, man.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
It's it is a crazy turn of events in Baltimore.
Of course, right after we go off the area yesterday,
the announcement comes down the Trey Hendrickson is now the
brand new pass rusher of the Baltimore Ravens. I'm assuming
that he passed his physical and everything's on the up
and up there. But Trey Hendrickson gets a four year
deal one hundred and twelve million dollars could be worth
(02:39):
up to one hundred and twenty million dollars sixty million guaranteed,
twenty million dollars at signing, so he does get on
that front. Trey Hendrickson's been looking for this deal from Cincinnati,
wasn't able to get it done, but he does stay
in the division and at least locks up his long
term deal that he's been looking for for the past
couple of years.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
So good for him. Yeah, I think for Avens fans too.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Look, you find yourself a pass rusher guy who's been
really productive. Henderson didn't play as much last year. It
was a bid banged up, but you know, you go
back through the previous four or five years before that,
he's been a wrecking ball on passing down.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
So that's what you're looking for. And if you're.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Concerned about, you know, the Max Crosby thing, the reality
is they can still probably use the draft capital to
go get another edge rusher. Ift'd like if that's really,
you know what you're trying to hone in on this offseason.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Defensively, Eric Tacosta can do that.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I just I hate what they are perpetuating because I
think they're a little bit concerned about the perception of
how this went down when they basically used the physical
to back out of the deal. As I said yesterday
before we get off the show, they knew Max Crosby
had surgery. They knew what the injury was. It wasn't
like they're blind to all of it. And you're gonna
(03:54):
tell me that it took them to have their doctor
see it to then say, well, short term, we feel
good about it, but long term not so much. I
don't buy any of it. I think they realized they
could get an edge rusher for cheaper that could be
probably just as impactful, and they're probably looking at saying, yeah,
(04:16):
we feel just as comfortable with either guy. If we
can get one cheaper, so be it. And that's what
it came down to. But they can't admit that. It's
obviously something that the NFL teams have done in the past,
but they're not gonna be able to admit.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
That it's a pass rusher who knows the division, he
knows the offenses in the division.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
He's there's familiarity there, you know. He's that Trey Hendrickson's a.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Little bit older, but productivity like productivity, they're about the same.
When you look at the numbers, you know, their their
per game values. Some people argue that Trey Hendrickson is
not as good against the run, what whatever, But yeah,
it does feel like they were like, you know what,
maybe we could get something done with Trey Hendrickson. And
we haven't signed on the dotted line yet for this trade,
(04:58):
and if we could just keep that fourteenth overall pick
is looking nice. We could just upgrade at the offensive
line there and go get ourselves a new center. And yeah,
we don't have to actually go through with this at
all and keep our word. We don't have to be
honest at all. We could just go back on the
deal and everybody's going to walk away happy. And that's
what it appears like it was. And then Eric DaCosta,
of course, yesterday the GM of the Baltimore Ravens, they
(05:21):
called a press conference and he talked about firstly, the
perception sort of the feeling that you and I have
and I think a lot of people have following the
Trey Hendrickson signing and all that, that maybe things weren't
on the up and up and they didn't handle this
the right way. He talked about that and then also
said that, you know, the goal was not just Trey Hendrickson,
(05:44):
but also Max Crosby.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Things just didn't work out.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
I mean, I understand it, you know, I understand it.
We live in that age of skepticism and people question,
especially people that don't really know me or know the
Ravens culture and the Ravens organization. So I understand it.
As I said at the beginning, We've got a responsibility.
I've got a responsibility to the Ravens, to this community,
to our fans, and to Steve Bashatti to do what
we think is best for the club. That's what we
(06:09):
always try to do. Every decision we make is based
on this idea, is this the best thing for the Ravens.
Very very challenging. Again, I understand how people might maybe
from a far would feel that way, but nobody is
more upset about this than me. Guided by it actually,
and so I regret a big regret for me, but
we will move on as a football team, and I
(06:31):
think there's many, many opportunities for us to grow as
a team, to become a better team, to build a roster,
and to be the team that we want to be.
In terms of Trey, we came to a point probably
after we lost Tyler, where as we're trying to find
the best way for us to get better as a
football team, Trey kind of made a lot of sense
as a possible guy to look at. So we started
some discussions with he and his agent, thinking that potentially
(06:54):
we have two pass rushers on the defensive line on
both sides of the line. Again, I think it was
appointing to us and probably in a way, you know,
disappointing probably the Tray as well.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
I just I love it. I gotta be honest with you.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
I love the Everybody knows that I'm not telling the truth,
but I'm still going with it, like I'm just gonna go.
So what he's trying to say is one had nothing
to do with the other. The ultimate dream for them
was that they were going to have both of those guys,
that they were going to have Trey Hendrickson and Max Crosby.
(07:30):
Just coincidentally enough, once one fell through, the other one
got done and finalized.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
That's really what he's trying to say.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Sure, and because they've got the cap space and the
money to be able to pay one guy. What was
the deal for Crosby About one hundred and sixteen million
in total, Yeah, thirty five and a half per year,
and then turn around inside Trey Hendrickson for thirty years.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yeah, that happens all the time in the NFL. Yeah,
you know, money grows on trees.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Were fine, no big deal, there's not a salary cap
or something like that would have to navigate. So, yeah,
of course they were trying to get both these guys.
I mean, Eric Dicostmus think everyone's stupid. He really, he
really must think everyone stupid. If we're supposed to buy
in the fact they're going to sign both these guys
for about two hundred and thirty million dollars this offseason, Like,
(08:19):
let's let's get real. That was never the plan. Trey
Hendrickson was probably the other option. They realized that they
could get him for a little bit cheaper, wouldn't have
to spend the draft capital, and they would still use him,
as you said, either in a center or on another
edge rusher like if that was your strategy, you could
probably get cash as hall ket out of text CNM,
(08:41):
and you could have an older veteran guy who's bringing
along the younger veteran, you know, younger rookie, and then
you've got your two edge rushers that you're looking for.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
So even if that was the strategy, it doesn't make.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Sense the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
It's just the idea that you think that that would
pass that that that would be the one that would
get through. It's like somebody walking through TSA and they've
got it. They've it's the three point four limit and
they're walking through with like a forty and it's like, dude,
you can't get through security with that. And they just
with a straight face they try and pass on through
and no, no, no, we're good. Here, it's in the brown bag.
(09:14):
We're fine. Everything's fine. This is a you problem, not
a me problem. Eric Tacosta trying to sell everybody. No, no, no, listen,
this is the story. This is going to pass right
by you, and everybody's going to buy into it. No man,
Like otherwise, the deal with Trey Hendrickson would have already
been done if one had nothing to do with the other.
Then why did one happen right after the other one
(09:35):
fell through? It's like, that's that's the part that I
just look at and go, all right, I guess everybody's stupid.
And then you know, yesterday we kind of made a
joke about you know, I think it was your guy
Jason lockinfirma lock and fora who was reporting that good
luck finding anybody that's gonna want to do a deal
with Baltimore and Eric Tacosta and then immediately Trey Hendrickson
(09:56):
gets a deal with.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Well, when you make a career out of basically bashing
every Baltimore professional team, it's going to backfire and a
lot of conform. Hopefully he was able to confirm the
Treandrickson deal. It is a good job of that.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yeah, the whole thing is hilarious, and I think it
also illustrates the fact that you know, it's a cold
hearted business. I don't know that this is going to
have the lasting we can't trust you impact that maybe
he was trying to pass along and that maybe some
people feel like I really do think that ultimately in
(10:34):
about two three weeks, there'll be jokes there. We'll make
a bunch of jokes about it, but nobody's gonna care.
It's just gonna be, yeah, business as usual. It's the NFL,
and everybody goes back and they're happy.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
I think what Eric Tacosta is trying to protect is
the team's power and their ability to move on from
deals or players in this situation and not have the
NFLPA throw a fuss about this. And again, the NFLPA
is not a great spot. They're obviously, as far as
a leadership standpoint, still trying to figure things out.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
And that's what they do.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
They don't want to draw attention to this because if
they do, then then all of a sudden, you're gonna
have a lot of other players with grievances saying, well,
wait a second, you know you sign these guys. They
had these injuries that wasn't an issue, But all of
a sudden, with Max Crosby, it's you know, his knee
that you full well knew for probably months while you
were putting together this trade deal.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
What was going on. You just didn't have imaging to it.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
And once you got it, your doctor said he's okay
the short term, but not the long term. I mean,
the explanation around it Stephen Flimsy, it doesn't really follow
your hand in hand with what was said. So again,
this is all in an effort to protect the team's
ability to do exactly what the Baltimore Ravens did get
out of a deal by using the excuse of the
(11:49):
medical and then go find a guy and Tre Hendrickson.
So look, Trey Hendrickson gets the opportunity. As you mentioned earlier,
he knows the division, he knows the Bengals, he knows
that there's there's a value in that too, and again,
not having to give up draft capital getting that back
allows them to build back through the draft, which they've
been really good at. I mean that is the majority
(12:11):
of how the Baltimore Ravens have built the roster. So
it kind of fits more. I think of what they're
looking to accomplish, say, save draft capital and you save
a little bit of money too, and it works out
for everyone in the end.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Now, Max Crosby did post to his x account yesterday.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I saw that.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Do you think that's a little bit of vengeance a
little bit? I mean, now it feels like it's personal
what's happened with Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah, at least based on well do you want to
describe what he put out there on social.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
This from Max Crosby, and I'll just read it as
the way Max Crosby probably thought it instead, based on
the way if you've heard Max, you know talk.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
And you have to do the impression too.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Yeah, everything happens for a reason. Believe nothing you hear,
and half of what you see. I'm a Raider, I'm
back run that s And then he's got an eagle
emoji and a pirate emoji, and then he's got the
young Undertaker walking out of a flaming casket gift. So
apparently we're just gonna forget about all of the stuff
(13:15):
that has happened. All of that is forgiven the out
and out tank job they went through at the end
of last year, all of the stuff that was said
back and forth, the bad handlings and the reports and
the I'm not happy and I.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
Want to go.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
We're just gonna forget all about that stuff. And Eric
DaCosta and the Ravens have now convinced that not everything
is greener on the other side. And Max Crosby's back
in Las Vegas with the Raiders. We're all good here.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Everybody's far see I was fooled into believing. And this
is where social media gets you.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
I just saw a plate of Skyline Chile on one
of the fake posts that he had, so I was like, oh, interesting,
Maybe he's making a message to Cincinnati, saying, all right, well,
Chay Hendrickson goes to Baltimore. Maybe now the Baltimore shunned
shun Max Crosby he wants to go to Cincinnati, and
and he's portraying that with a bowl of Skyline Chile.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Oh my god, what a what a disaster.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
I don't think do they play? Do the Raiders play
the Ravens next year? What's the what are the Raiders
apparent that would be for?
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Yeah? Yeah, twenty twenty six opponents. Yeah, let's see what
we got here, Raiders twenty twenty six opponents. Obviously you
get your divisional opponents.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
They do not.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Yeah, that's unfortunate. Yeah, I really missed a golden opportunity there.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
But hey, that's one of those if you think the
NFL is scripted, the NFL would have found a way
to make that happen.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
I mean, they are scheduled to play the Ravens in
twenty twenty seven, So if we could hold some grievances
and grudges until twenty twenty seven. This whole thing could
come full circle and we could really really make things
happen here. But that is that is the story on
the Trey Hendrickson Eric Decas to Max Crosby fiasco. And
(15:04):
I don't think I don't think Trey Hendrickson is going
to apologize for getting the deal he got. It's not
his problem. I mean, you sign what you sign, and
he's been looking for that deal for a while and
now he's going to stay in the division and get
after Joe Burrow for the next couple of years.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
So it's a bit surprising with his age. I mean,
that's the one thing I look at and say, like
for again, this goes back to the Cincinnati Bengals organization
not ever really wanting to give him this sort of deal,
but now the Ravens are willing to at what they're
thirty one years old. I mean, edge rushers have been
able to play in the league, you know, much much
longer than I think what they used to, especially as
(15:38):
the league has become more of a passing league.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
So that does play to his advantage.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
But it's just interesting he had to go within the
division to find an organization to pay him what he wanted.
For all those Bengals fans out there who keep trying
to tell me your organization is not cheap, just one
more example, just one more example of that. All right,
don't blame me, all right, I'm just the messenger. You
don't need to shoot the messenger for blaming the Bengals

Quinn's relatives and we got it. The Ie Ties come
up big and dominate Mexico in the WBC and close.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Hey, maybe they're pretty good at baseball. Huh I did?
I did see it?
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Lists though, where all the uh the Italian players were born?
Like half are from the Midwest, I think one or
two and went from Florida, went from Cali. It was like,
I'm like, what are we doing here? I'm still is
there any I'm gonna look this up because I want
to know one of the specifics to how you decide
(20:15):
whether or not you can play for the Italian team.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah, what's the percentage cutoff? Like if you're at you know,
is it like twenty four and a half. Above twenty
four and a half percent are you are you considered
qualified to play for that country? Because yeah, a lot
of these guys, I mean, like Francisco Cervelli, who's the
manager of Team Italy.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
He was he was making the comment, you know that
our goal is you.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Know that we helped grow the sport in Italy and
that you know, sooner rather than later, it's Italians who
were born and raised in Italy that are playing in
this event.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Moving forward, Okay, okay, so key eligibility criteria for Team Italy.
The player holds a valid Italian passport. So let me
just stop there for a second.
Speaker 9 (21:07):
As I said before, we were joking about this, and
I don't know if I've told you this or not,
but my father in law was working on this to
try to get my wife and my.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Brother in law an Italian passport and you know whatever,
like their dual citizenship, and he was very intent on
doing this. Now I do think he got fooled by
some online ad or like a social media ad to
think this is much easier than it actually was, because
I'm pretty sure he spent a good amount of money
(21:41):
on it, and I'm not sure he was ever able
to see it through.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
So I'm pretty sure my father in law got scammed.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
But a player must hold a valid Italian passport, which
is possible and not, I guess, not as easy as
you think, but also.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Maybe not as difficult it was it was for my
father in law.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
There must be parental heritage, so at least one parent
has to be born in Italy or was an Italian citizen,
and then the player can provide documentation that they would
be granted a Talian citizenship or a passport.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
If they applied. So this is this is where it
gets a little bit in the gray area. Okay, so
maybe they just got a nice eie over there, someone
to set him a letter that says, yeah, yeah, yeah,
well of course we'd give him a passport.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Now, how many of those guys you think actually end
up getting the passport?
Speaker 4 (22:34):
After all, this is over in.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
The middle of the season, and I feel like, you know,
some guys might might not follow up on that, by
the way, Francisco Cervelli born in Venezuela, so he can
go a lot of different directions here, like he could
basically pick and choose where he wants to manage moving
forward in the WBC. So if you're a Venezuelan team,
(22:58):
just know you've.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
Got somebody there who does meet the criteria.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
So just an example, and this goes back to the
twenty twenty three team okay, that had twenty one members
that were US born on it. So the last thing
I'd say too is if the player previously played for
Italy in a prior WBC tournament, they also can can
qualify again. So even if some of those potentially change
(23:27):
some of these eligibility rules, as long as they were
Grandfather claused in they're good now.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
Vinnie Pasquentino, who at the three home runs, he's by
the way, he's a first base in DH for the
Kansas City Royals.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
He spoke with John pal Morosi. John Palmer ROSI was
really fired up about the items.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Should be fired up. Yeah, he would probably playing for
by the way.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
For people that are not familiar, John palm Morosi once
called into this show and spoke Italian on the air,
So that was that happened a couple of years back.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
But here when we get John Paulton, can we just
get him on to talk about.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Oh yeah, like anything anything Italian soccer now the World
Baseball Classic. Yeah, John Paul Morossi would be be a
fun get and he'll represent the country nicely. And he's
also one of these guys like Sirbelli that could just
go a bunch of different directions here. But John Paul
Morosi was catching up with Vinnie Pascuentino and it sounded
(24:24):
like this post.
Speaker 8 (24:24):
Game, I'm caffeinated, I'm beamed up right now.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
So yeah, we're in a good spot.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
So how many more boxes of those espresso pods are
now on order?
Speaker 8 (24:35):
As many as we need, as many as we need,
we'll make it happen. So that is unbelievable. Huh, you're
welcome to the USA. We were thinking of you guys
over at your hotel. We were thinking of you guys.
So glad you guys could join us.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
In the party.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
So there a they're all being down with camaraderie.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
Huh, yeah, I guess because Bobby Wood Junior is this
teammate who, by the way, if anybody's never seen Bobby
Wood Junior play guys a stud and and so he
was joking, Yeah, I hope he.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Leaves the leaves me a hotel room key because they're
you know, they're buddies, putting the royals together.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
But yeah, it's and then you know he's talking about
you know, I'm all beamed up. I thought, in watching
a few of those guys in the dugout that they
were faking the espresso shots? Okay are they Are they
taking actual espresso shots after everything?
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Not shots? You don't shoot an espresso.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
What do you mean?
Speaker 2 (25:28):
You drink it like anything else. I don't know, faking it.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
I think they're shooting it.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Dude, have you not had espresso before?
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Of course I'm having it right now. No, you're drinking
coffee with espresso in it. Okay, you need to look
up the process of how it's made. Okay, but then
you'll better understand.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
But I'm telling you, I think those guys are are
shooting espresso.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (25:48):
When I got here tonight, Monsie was still here doing
her updates, and she offered me the rest of her espresso.
She said, I got this for the Italians because every
time that they make a whatever.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
The game was, it's a home run.
Speaker 10 (26:00):
Yeah, you take a you take a shot of espresso.
So she was doing that all night, so she ain't sleeping.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
It's hard to shoot something that's hot.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
I don't know. It looked like they were shooting it.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
You you'd love them to be shooting anything. Well, well
here's because here's the move. All right, So here's the move.
And I was unaware of this until I did it
the first time because I thought, like, who would want
coffee after you have a full meal?
Speaker 4 (26:24):
But the whole coffee answer? Yeah, it helps you completely.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Settles your stomach and well yeah, well look and then
you got to deal with the repercussions afterwards. But you
know that's a small price to pay. And so what
I do is I'll let it sit there for about
two to three minutes and then wof just rip it.
I mean, I'm trying to mainline it. If that if
we're doing this, we're doing this.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
You have no class, jonas somebody class whatsoever. You're the
type of guy that it's French fries with this chicken
parm have I Yeah, I've had off for got it?
Speaker 10 (26:59):
Those are so good? Are you classy? Enough for one
of those jonas. What an awful.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Gato an avocado to the joke. Gosh, darn it, I
steal your thunder there, Patty. I was about to say,
I'm stupid. That's right down right down his alley.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
But now that it did help the US, all right,
So the US will advance now and uh and and
they are often running here. Now the schedule is such
to where now you've got to win, all right. Now,
there's no more helping out. You've got you've got to win,
you if you'd like to advance. This is uh, this
is really coming down to it. So we are going
(27:38):
to get the US and Canada Friday night, eight pm
Eastern time on we.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Just can't help ourselves.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
Ourselves.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
They did like they're really trying to divide the US
and Canada. But eight pm Eastern time on Friday night,
on fixing.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
This, It's going to be My kids went to a
women's soccer match at the Columbus Cruse Stadium. He went
to see the US women's national team take on the
Canadian women's national team, which the USA got the.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Better of that as well.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
So the USA has got a nice little streak right now,
dominating Canada. I'm sorry to all my Canadian friends out there,
but that's just the way it is.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
You know, these are just facts right now.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
US, by the way, is currently on DraftKings minus eight
hundred to win that game, so they're an eight to
one favorite to be.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Canada, which which means you're probably bet Canada, aren't you.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
I mean, if I can get you know, if I
can get plus money like that, Like, I love being American.
I love the US, but you know, hey, wins A wins,
The US is favored to win. The Dominican Republic is
currently second. You've got Japan and then Venezuela there as
well too, So I don't know if you've watched Fernando
(28:55):
Tatish and those guys ripping, but he talked to Patrick
about the celebrations going on there.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Well the time that was that was though when he
referenced it.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
I think that was Puerto Rico I was talking about, Yeah,
which that was so funny. As soon as as soon
as you watch the clip, you're like, yeah, this does
seem a little bit excessive, but this is what makes
it fun.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
I mean, I would say this the momentum.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Coming off of the Olympics for hockey, it has helped
I think in viewership that's been a little bit proven,
but also just that's the interest, the intrigue around it.
And I think as a parent now more than ever,
I'm always looking at the impact that it has on kids,
Like when kids come home and they're talking about it,
when kids, you know, start talking about different sports they
(29:41):
want to play, or you have some of their friends
over are driving carpool and like the kids are saying like, Oh,
I want to do this, and I try this. This
looks so cool. I'm thinking to myself, like back when
I was young, you know, we didn't have stuff like this.
I don't I don't know how long the World Baseball
Classic has been around. Like I love baseball just because
that was what my dad first taught me to play.
You know, I was playing t ball, throwing a baseball around,
(30:02):
and it kind of led to other sports, but that
was my dad loved. My dad loved baseball, and that's
how things started. The Reds were good back when I
was probably what nineteen ninety nineteen ninety one. The Indians
were good after that, and so it kind of it
kept you engaged into the sport because you were falling
teams that were playing the World Series, or at least,
in the Reds case, against the winning World Series.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
So I don't know.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
I'm curious to see the impact this will have on
baseball in general, because even though it does feel a
little bit manufactured, with you know, half the team or
however many players being born in the US, I do.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Think that's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
It's cool to see players and teams kind of represent
their heritage, albeit maybe not as you know, close to
the you know, their family or relatives, as one may think,
it's still fun to see what that looks like.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
I also think, and this might be a little hokey
and maybe a little naive to think that people could
set aside some differences, but as we've seen, you know,
people in this country can't really get along for the
most part.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
Everybody's got a disagreement.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Everybody's got a gripe, whether it's political, whether it's the vaccines, whatever, Like,
everybody's got you're this and you're wrong, and I'm right,
and there's no common ground. And it does feel like
stuff like this is at least where you can put
all that garbage away and you could just root for
the country like they're not like nobody cares, who believes
(31:25):
in what? Who's voting for what? You just want to
root for the country. And I think that's why a
lot of people got annoyed with some of the questions
from some of the media to the American athletes at
the Olympics, because it's like, dude, we're at the Olympics.
Why are we bringing this stuff up here? Like why
are you pointing out the flaws of the country. How
about we just celebrate athletes who are trying to win
gold for the country and just root for them. And
(31:47):
I think the hockey teams, men's and women's did that.
And I think the further the US goes, I think
the more fun it is for people to watch, because
when you look at that crowd, you see fans of
all different teams just rooting for the US. They couldn't
care less that arrival from another from the same division
of the team that they root for. You just got
(32:07):
a base hit in an RBI, They don't care. They
just want the US to win.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Yeah, agreed, Which actually begs the question, Listen, are you
into video games? I mean who isn't, well, look, celebrities
or just a good time.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
I'm telling you this.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
The Global Gaming League, They've got it all. It's a
video game league with celebrity owned teams, so from t
Pain and Neo competing in everything from Call of Duty
to Tetris. Sign up and join the league now at
Globalgaming League dot com.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
I'd put you in a blender in Tetris.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
I'm just glad we now were able to get Neo
into that read so at least we could do. And
some people I love I do too. I actually heard
a song that might be my next song.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
Who wouldn't know who Neo is?
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Probably someone who's not a big fan of his music.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
I don't know. I'm not sure. I don't know why
anybody wouldn't be a fan of his music. I am,
I know, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
By the way, you don't how to pronounce that day and.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Jonas, uh yeah, sure do. It is two pros and
a cup of Joe.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Here on Fox Sports Radio, LeVar Arrington is not here,
but Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox are and there's some rats
circling somewhere in the building here.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Based on that information that was just passed around.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
But coming up next here we're going to tell you
about an event in the world of stewards that would
be dominated by the Quinns Jonas and that's yours right
here on FSR.
Speaker 6 (33:28):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you here on a Thursday morning.
No LeVar Arrington. He will be back with us on Monday.
So to be BQ and I taking you all the
way up through the rest of the week. The duo
the dominated Sunday nights. How long we do that show
for like five six years? Long ass time we were
working on that show. But we are going to be
(34:06):
taking you all the way up until nine am Eastern time,
six o'clock Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Here.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
You can listen live on the iHeartRadio app. You can
find us on hundreds of affiliates. If you're listening on
the podcast, we appreciate you doing so. And we are
rocking and rolling here on this Thursday morning. All sorts
of NFL conversation to be had. We talked about the
WBC Team Italy gets it done with a bunch of
guys from America. You have espresso, and they had a
(34:34):
bunch of guys from America who can apparently somewhat claim
that they're Italian and nonetheless they are celebrating somewhere in
Italy that the baseball's bag And I do wonder though,
if this does spark maybe kids in Italy wanting to
play a little more baseball. I do wonder if this
(34:56):
stuff helps, because the Dream Team helped, you know, when
they saw, you know, some of those guys play internationally.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
I think that helped.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
With the NBA.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
I wouldn't necessarily call Team Italy the Dream Team, but
I do wonder if maybe there's a couple of more
kids who were like, you know what, I don't want
to play soccer today, give me a bat and a ball.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Petro said it yesterday, like do we even know if
they're aware this is going.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
On in Italy.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
It feels like more of an American derived sport here.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
I mean, look, it's America's pastime.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
But also at the same time, even though the World
Baseball Classic seems like it's something we came up with.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
Are we aware they know what's going on?
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Like, is there any live shots over in Italy while
the games are going?
Speaker 4 (35:36):
I don't believe. So my buddy Romeo, you know about
just it's just a complete and total scumback.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
But he also not Italian. I mean he's Italian heritage,
but he's born in the US.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
Yeah, but he is.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
I mean, like, I've got a ton of Italian, Like
I'm more in an Italian jacket right now. He got
me like he just basically because he knows I'll just
wear it because it's free, nice jacket, and so he
thank you. So he throws all this stuff at me.
And I was talking to him yesterday because it was
a birthday and I said, hey, man, team Italy goes.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
Yeah, I didn't even know they were playing. I had
no idea exactly, I had no idea.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
But I'll go watch, you know, the end of the
Italy Mexico game. So, but congrats they're onto the next round.
So it is the US. The WBC has been fun,
and congratulations to Daniel Jones who gets paid again. And
I don't know what the career totals are going to
look like when it's all said and done, but not bad.
(36:34):
Daniel Jones agrees to a two year, eighty eight million
dollar deal. He was they had snapped the was it
the transition tag on him, so they had slapped that
on him last week, But now he signs a two
year eighty eight million dollar deal fifty million dollars guaranteed
at signing, sixty million guaranteed for injury with the Colts.
(36:55):
He was on the Pat mcavie show starring Ajayhawk yesterday
talking about the new You.
Speaker 11 (37:00):
I wanted to be back, and uh, I'm glad we
got it figured out and the transition tag. That whole
process was was interesting, but I always wanted to be
here and you know, had faith it would it would
work out. So yeah, definitely appreciative, grateful and fired up
to be here. We got a special thing going and
working with this coaching staff, working with the guys in
the locker room, and fired up to get Alec back
(37:20):
and and all that. So, uh, looking forward to it.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
So now we wait to see what he looks like
upon his return.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
Yeah, if you could become the player that you know
of all the quarterbacks that have come through recently and
We've talked about this with Kirk Cousins. You know, Kirk
Cousins is in the Hall of Fame of business in
the NFL for as much.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Money as he's made for it one one playoff win
whatever it.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Is, Yeah, which usually people you know, attribute like a
playoff with with how much guys are getting paid, which
is it's not the case, but it's pretty wild. I mean,
I think Cousins has made over with three hundred million
whatever it is. Daniel Jones is following close behind. This
contract will put him somewhere in the ballpark of total
(38:10):
career earnings. If he's able to earn out. You know
what is slated in this contract, two hundred and fifty
eight million league. He's already up to two fifty eight
after this with this, with this contract now guaranteed, wise
he'd be over two hundred million Jesus, which is kind
of wild to think about because outside of his rookie
(38:30):
year and then you'd say half of last season, and
maybe you'd say there was a decent year in there
too where he was able to get the Giants to re.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Up him, then that's been it. I mean, he has
been able to time eight.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
He's been able to timely play well enough to get
paid every single time. And I don't know if we
started listing off starting quarterbacks in the NFL, I honestly
don't know if he'd be considering in the top half
of the league.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
You want to play if you want to go through
a list, I'm in Okay, all right, let's do it,
all right, So I'll give you a quarterback. You tell
me if you take them over Daniel Jones. Do we
have any game show music here? We've got a live
studio band. No stone unturned here expence wise, on this show,
we basically took Levar's salary and we put it towards
a band for the three days here in studio with
(39:21):
him out. All right, So Josh Allen, Josh Allen or
Daniel of course.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Not I mean Josh Allen over him?
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Yeah, Malik Willis brand new quarterback for the Dolphins, or
Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Well, let's do this.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
Let's go based on twenty twenty five, because we don't
know what's going to happen twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
Okay, So Tua or Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
I mean I think two has been more productive, hasn't he?
Speaker 1 (39:47):
Yeah? In order to get a tally because you're not
going out about this in the right way. Can we
get like some of the guys, because you're really going
on a haphazard way. Let's get some of the top
guys out of the way. So you're not gonna say Mahomes.
You're not gonna say Allen, You're not gonna say Matt
Stafford Fair. Yeah, looka Dak Prescott, Drake May, Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Caleb Williams, Justin Herbert Baker.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Maybe, like I'm not gonna take him over any of
these guys, right, that's Jordan Love, not gonna take him
over him. Aaron Rodgers wouldn't take him over him, Jalen Hurts,
not gonna take him over him.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
C J.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Stroud, I wouldn't take him over. I wouldnt take Daniel
Jones over c J.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
Stroud.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
So like what Jared Goff, I'd take Jared Goff over
at Daniel Jones, Drake May, I'd take Drake May over
at Daniel Jones. I'd take Sam Darnoald over Daniel Jones.
Like we're getting to the point where we're now probably
somewhere and.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
You're a you're at fifteen, right, there there you go.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
Yeah, Lamar Jackson didn't even say him. I wouldn't obviously
take you know, so there's sixteen. So now we're in
the bottom half of the league. So now you can
go on with your list.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
You said what Tua, Well, I mean there's no not
even a need to do it now. I mean because
I think that because if you look at it too,
I can understand the argument because people look at the
low lights for Tua, but the highs for Tua have
been way higher than Daniel Jones.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
I would also say that the lows are more injury
about it. I mean, it's not like Daniel Jones hasn't
had awful games too. Like the concern with TWOA is
always just injury.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
But when he.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
Plays, he usually plays decently well and he's usually able
to win. I mean, I would say this, let's be controversial.
I look at Gino Smith. Gino Smith has had better
seasons than Daniel Jones. Now everyone's going to look back
(41:37):
last year at Las Vegas. Yeah, all problem, Yeah the taste. Okay,
Well go put Daniel Jones on that team. See how
he performed.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
No, I agree, I agree, And I think that when
you mentioned you know, he's twenty eight years old. He's
you know, when this deal is all said and done,
you know he'll be thirty, and you know he will have,
you know, potentially made two hundred and fifty something million dollars.
And it really just is a timing thing with him.
He was drafted high and you know, contract year, whatever
(42:06):
you want to call it, he ended up being on
teams where he had all the leverage. And even in
this one, and I know Pete Prisco was thrown out.
The idea, you know, go out and get Kyler Murray,
who reportedly is meeting with the Vikings later on today.
Go out and get Kyler Murray paying one point two
million or whatever the low number is, because you know,
Arizona's on the hook for the rest, and then let
(42:28):
Daniel Jones walk. I just don't think Indianapolis wanted to
go through it again. They've gone through so many quarterbacks
since Andrew Luck left, like everything has been a stopgap quarterback.
They thought they had the answer here, They thought they
had the answer there. Anthony Richardson was brought in. They
used a high draft pick on him. That was a
complete disaster. They finally had some stability last year and
(42:50):
through the first half of the season, they're the best
team in the league, a really, really good team, and
then it got a little shaky, and then he got injured.
But I just think they look around and Daniel Jones
found himself in an advantageous situation again where timing wise,
everything lined up for him and he ends up getting
two years in eighty eight million coming off achille surgery.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
I think what's interesting about it too, is he signed
the extension with the Giants in March of twenty twenty three.
That was when Brian Dabole was the head coach, and
I want to say they moved off from Jones after
that year. Is that correct?
Speaker 9 (43:30):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (43:33):
Yeah, yeah, because twenty twenty four he finished up.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Maybe it was the following year.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
No, twenty twenty four he finished up in Minnesota. So
last year was with Indianapolis. So yeah, it was pretty quick. Yeah,
they pulled the plug pretty quick.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
It was.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
It was kind of a pretty quick plug.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
And I feel like, just to compare the two situations,
the Giants were in a bit of, I want to say,
a dire spot, but obviously they moved on from Brian
Dables soon after that, and now you look at the
Indianapolis Colts. Chris Ballard's got to win. I think Shane
Steichen feels like he has to win. And I feel
like this decision was born out of saying, he played
(44:14):
great the first half of the year. Yes, he's coming
off an injury, but what's our other option, Like, we
don't really have another option. We have to sign him
to this deal in order to give us a shot
of what we feel like we get built off of
last year and give us a shot to retain our
jobs because otherwise, like I mean, Ballard for sure, I
(44:34):
think is the one that's probably on the hot seat
if this doesn't work, because ultimately it's his decision. He's
the general manager. He's signing ding On Jones to this deal,
and he's the one who's built the roster. But if
you look at that track record too, that's been unfortunately
how it's worked out for teams that have been in
this position where they've extended Daniel Jones, usually it's ended
(44:55):
up in the head coach getting fired.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
What is the because you've done games with the Colts,
what is the feedback of whether it's Stike In, whether
it's Chris Ballard. It does feel like Ballard's been there
a really long time, like's.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
They have not won a division title since Chris Ballard's
been there. And I think that's what's kind of flown
under the radar is you know, ultimately you can point
to the coaches, you can point to the quarterbacks, but
there's also someone who's in charge.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Of the roster.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
And this roster has at times had some players, but
I don't know that we've ever said it's built up
to the point of some of the others, even within
the division, Like when you look at Houston's roster, you
look at Jacksonville's roster and the amount of talent first
round picks, it feels different when you compare the two.
So that's where I think there's a bit of a
(45:49):
frustration is the guy has been in the general manager
since he's taken over, they have yet to win a
division title, and they have yet to be able to
solve the quarterback spot.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
So here's another opportunity.
Speaker 1 (45:59):
A guy again played well for half the season last
year before getting hurt, and now they're investing back into it.
And by the way, I'm not saying that like this
isn't the right decision. It's just this has been the
history with Daniel Jones side of these deals with the
teams he's played for, and as we kind of laid out,
and maybe Colts fans will disagree, maybe you'd take him
over some of the quarterbacks that we had discussed and
(46:21):
talked about, but I wouldn't, you know. I think we've
seen enough now to kind of know where he's at.
And last year was a great example of right fit,
right environment with Shane Steichen and how that team operated.
But we also only saw for half the season. You know,
we don't know what that second half the season would
have been like, if they made it to the playoffs,
what that would have looked like. There's a lot of
(46:42):
big question marks still surrounding Daniel Jones. And look, maybe
he's gonna be like Sam Darnold where he can now
use that opportunity for whatever he learned in Minnesota, similar
to Sam, where he's able to kind of take off now.
But it feels like that's what they're betting on an indie.
They're betting on that the first half we saw last year,
and we're going to see an entire season of that
(47:03):
then into the playoffs, and that, honestly might be what
they need to do in order for Chris Ballard to
remain as the general manager.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
I just think it's it's risky from the standpoint of
not only the history of Daniel Jones, but he is
coming off that injury, and you know, he Kirk Cousins
didn't seem like and I know he's Kirk Cousins was
at an advanced age, but he didn't seem like he
was the same coming off that injury. Daniel Jones a
more mobile quarterback. I just wonder what that looks like,
(47:32):
you know, following the Achilles and and the stuff that
happened with him. And so that that's where I look
at this and go, all right, man, like a two
year deal, you're giving him a lot of money. He's got,
you know, the sixty million dollar injury guarantee and whatever
attached to it. But I don't know what if a
He's going to be fully ready to go when the
season opens, and then what that looks like for them,
(47:54):
Like maybe you're not gonna maybe that first half of
last season is the peak of Daniel Jones and and
this is just going to be a roll of the
dice and it might cost some people some jobs.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
Two things.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
I think to your point, there definitely is some concern
in looking at Cousins o their cousins was older, and
I think that injury is harder to come off of
a little bit, you know, for a guy like him
at that age. However, Cousins is a pocket passer. You know,
He's the guy that when he drops back, he's not
going to move off that spot. You know, he is
your traditional pocket passer that every defense talks about. Move
(48:26):
him off the spot, move him off the spot, because
he's not gonna be as accurate of a quarterback, and
so he falls in that category. Daniel Jones is not.
Daniel Jones is very athletic. He's very capable of impacting
the game with his legs, which will make this not
only is scheme interesting, but what the passing game looks
like even off of that.
Speaker 2 (48:43):
You know, are they going to move the pocket with him?
You know, how well is.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
He going to move, you know, getting in and out
of the pocket. So there's a number of things that
I think it could potentially change, and it may take
some time before he feels confident and comfortable with it.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
You know.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
One of the hardest things I think about a non
contact injury. And that was what Daniel Jones suffered, is
it wasn't like from a hit. You don't have to
blame it on the way a guy landed on you
where you felt something else. You lose confidence in your
body's ability to respond. And that's a scary thing for
an athlete because every time you run out there, you
(49:18):
feel like that freak accident could happen again, and you
don't know how to necessarily prepare your body to avoid that.
You've got just all these questions running in your mind,
wondering like when's the next time it's gonna happen. So
there's gonna be a mental hurder for sure for him
to get over. There's gonna be a manner in which
they're going to try to implement him back into the offense,
(49:40):
and we'll see what that looks like.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
But I look at this.
Speaker 1 (49:44):
And just say he's a little bit younger, so that
plays to his advantage. But Kirk Cousins would have told you,
and I think the coaching staff there in Atlanta, you know,
said as well, he really his first year back from
it was not one hundred percent, you know, couldn't really
step in and get into throws a much didn't feel
as comfortable with it and has showed in his play
now you know, coming in this past season, different story.
(50:07):
But again that's going to be the concern for Daniel
Jones is they're paying him to be the guy. And
I don't want to say make or break year, but
let's just call it a big year for Chris Ballard
and Coe, and I'm not sure he's going to be
the same player physically. You know, that's a legit concern.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
By the way, I was looking back at since Andrew
Luck retired, a different quarterback has led the Colts and
touchdown passes every single year. So you had Jacoby Brissette,
Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan Gardner, Minshew, Joe Flacco,
and then Daniel Jones. So it's literally been a revolving door.
And I get to I had to be honest with you, man,
(50:45):
Carson Wentz his year in twenty twenty one was way
better than what I remembered it like that was a
you know, he threw for over thirty five hundred yards,
twenty seven touchdowns, seven interceptions, and I think what marred
that season for Carson and Wentz and you and I
were working together at that time. That was when the
Colts needed to beat Jacksonville right the final week of
(51:09):
the season, and the fans dressed up as clowns. They
had a clown out because that was the year they
fired urban Meyer with a couple of games left and
the Colts went in there were favorites and lost, and
I think that marred how everybody viewed Carson Wentz's time
there with Indianapolis. But if you actually look back the numbers,
he wasn't bad.
Speaker 1 (51:30):
Well, the issue really came down to this. You were
so hard on him for having that thing on the
back of his neck.
Speaker 4 (51:36):
Oh, that was just repulsive.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
Yeah that was and it was know if it was
just an ingrown hair of what was going on, but
you could not get over it.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
You kept talking about it the entire season.
Speaker 3 (51:47):
Like the back of his neck looked like the surface
of Mars. He had he had these like either ingrown
hairs or pimples or I don't know, if his helmet
was riding low and it was just agitating his skin.
But the guy had just ZiT brail from outer space
(52:07):
all over the back of his neck. And they would
just do these close ups on you know, Carson Carson
Wentz recovering from whatever injury it was, and they're doing
this close up on him and it's like, you know,
he's got like a little microwaveable de giorno on the
back of his neck, and people are like just trying
to ignore that and focus on the injury. They're discussing
(52:27):
his arms in a sling. It's like, dude, we're not
talking about his arm in a sling. We're trying to
figure out who spilled ragou on that guy's hair and
let it drain all over the back of his head.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
All right.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
If anything, it looked like a volcano ready to explode,
like with a strong wind.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
Had they played outdoors that yellow.
Speaker 4 (52:45):
Head, Oh yeah, just in the wind.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
We've all been there, Like you've seen somebody walks over
with the yellow head and you're like, God, I just
want to pop.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
That thing like a dog sticking his tongue out the
window and the car behind him just catching all the
shaft bill. Yeah, straw gots to win. That thing's opening up. God,
it's gross. But had a pretty decent year and that
wasn't good enough, So another one and done for the Colts.
But at least I've got some uh some you know,
somebody with some familiarity there for year two is Daniel
(53:16):
Jones's back. So that's a good good news for Indianapolis,
real good news.
Speaker 1 (53:21):
I don't know what brag you had to do with
anything there.
Speaker 4 (53:23):
Uh well, it's just good.
Speaker 3 (53:24):
Like his neck, it's gross, dude, Like they probably find
a picture of it somewhere. Lorna seems like one of
those types that likes poppings its.
Speaker 1 (53:33):
Though she would hop the fence. They're like, oh no,
it's stringer and she's like, no, I'm just gonna pop that.
Speaker 4 (53:38):
I got it. I got it.
Speaker 10 (53:40):
I'm not saying I enjoy it, but like there's a
little bit of satisfaction out of it, for sure. I
do have a friend who likes watching videos of people
popping sits. Have you seen those those viral ones where
they get like those really deep ones that's gross and
like a mile long.
Speaker 3 (53:55):
You would need you would need a crescent wrench to
get the one on the back of Wentz's neck.
Speaker 4 (53:59):
It was. It was disgusting.
Speaker 3 (54:02):
