You know, sometimes you just can't help yourself. You just can't.
It was on full display this weekend in the world
of college football. We'll get into that for you coming
up here in just a couple of moments from now.

(00:55):

as well, too, at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. As we
talk all things football, college football, you name it You know,
some shenanigans here or there There's been a lot of
shenanigans that have gone on As it pertains to Lane
Kiffin And what the hell's happening at LSU The idea

(01:20):
that professional players may be coming back to college Is
a wild time to be alive, but here we are
And look, cannot bury the point that Lane Kiffin at
LSU rolled out there and stomped out Clemson. That was
a beating that they gave Clemson. So much so that

(01:41):
now the conversation surrounding Dabo Swinney's future at Clemson is
starting to get a little bit louder because they weren't
close in that game. That was a wipeout. LSU looked fantastic.
But the story at LSU is obviously going to be
Lane Kiffin. And so Lane Kiffin at halftime had this

(02:02):
interesting little uh interesting little back and forth uh and
uh it sounded like this we'll.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Make adjustments we got to play better in the second
half we can't give away something like the first turnover
man this ball 38.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Nothing thank you everything to say not say imagine we
had a guy can't help himself Can't help himself. Now,
he did talk about that back and forth that he
had at halftime postgame following their beating of Clemson. And
it sounded like this.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Well, I just said that to Shelly afterwards. Like, what
would it look like if they let us have those players, too?
You know, so that's just my personality. So this is
what it is. And then I said, did you actually
like put that on there?

Speaker 4 (02:48):
She said, yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
So what's the difference?

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Everybody hates you. They can't hate you that much more.
So there you go. You got another line. But I'm
just really glad they played the way they did. So
that wouldn't have been the story because I get it.
That would have been the whole story. Even if we
won close and kind of ugly, the whole story would
have been, man, I screwed the team up by, you know,
doing this. And I said it this morning, you cannot

(03:13):
agree with it. I've been criticized heavily for the last
two weeks, and I get that.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
I understand.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
But my job is not to please you and worry
about what you're going to write. My job is what
I believe is right, and I believe we were fighting
for what was right for those kids. I'm not going
to get into all the reasons, but that's what I believe.
And so many people don't like that, but they don't
understand that. And maybe if they knew my relationship with Daquan,
you'd think a little different.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
So that was Lane Kiffin postgame. Lane Kiffin... just can't
help himself. He can't. He tries, can't help himself. Now,
this isn't like a Jed York can't help himself type
of situation. This is just, that's his personality. And he's, look,
he fully embraces it. If you want to say embracing

(04:00):
being the villain, whatever you want to call it, whatever
the jargon is now that people are throwing out there,
that's fine. But he can't help himself. This is who
he is. There's a scene in the movie Backdraft where
Donald Sutherland is having his parole hearing. And this is
a guy who, you know, he was an arsonist. I mean,

(04:20):
he like burned buildings, people. He just terrible human being.
And so he's in this parole hearing and he's, you know,
trying to explain that he's a changed man. He's not
going to be a danger to society. And they're about
ready to sign off on releasing him. And then Robert
De Niro steps in from the fire department and Because

(04:42):
he knows whatever he's telling you right now is not
who he is deep down. Whatever he's telling you now
is not actually happening. And he steps in and he
just says, all right, listen, Ronald, what do you want
to do to the whole world? And he said, I
want to burn it all. Couldn't help himself. He was
this close to doing the right thing. Couldn't help himself.

(05:03):
That's just who he is. Lane Kiffin says all the
right things about has a really good team, is a
good coach, he just can't help himself. They're winning at halftime.
They're winning. He didn't need to also throw in the, oh, hey,

(05:27):
you know, by the way, just imagine if we would
have the pro players. Took me everything not to say that,
but you still said it. You still said it. Like,
you would think, like, he talks, man, you know, I'm
a change man. I've learned. I've this and that. I've,
you know. But still, there's going to be something that
goes on. Just think about this. Tennessee, blue blood program. USC,

(05:56):
same thing. Ole Miss, maybe not a blue blood, but
a really, really good football program. Like, really good football program. Like,
a lot of legends have gone there. You want to
call it blue blood? That's fine. I don't want to
piss anybody off at Ole Miss. They've been through enough.
The Raiders, one of the most storied franchises in the
history of the NFL. Alabama, Blue Blood. I mean, we're

(06:21):
talking legendary program during a legendary era. Lane Kiffin has
had jobs at every one of those places and burned
them all.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
Every one.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Every one. So it's almost as if LSU is watching
this happening and LSU fans were just rallying around the
guy knowing, Oh, by the way, he's going to burn
you down too. This is Kate. This is what happens.

(06:55):
He can't help himself. And it's just, they've become the
story and the talk surrounding college football. And it's not
really them. It's him. And this is a program who's
seen coaches win and then leave Nick Saban, less miles.

(07:17):
Like you've seen coaches, like, you know, coach. Oh, like
you've seen all of these, like go there. And then
Brian Kelly gets there and there were stories that, well,
you know, maybe he's just out playing golf. You know,
I didn't really want to hit the recruiting trail. I
don't want to go take these guys to dinner. It
doesn't want to really want to do the NIL thing.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Let's go play around a golf. There was stuff out
there like that. Fake Cajun accent, all of that. Lane
Kiffin is so blatantly full of it that you almost
respect it. He's honest about his dishonesty right to your face.
Right to your face. The moniker Joey Freshwater that he

(07:57):
used to pick up chicks while he was at Tuscaloosa
going out as an assistant coach. Clay Travis asked him
about it. You know, his response was, I've never used
that name. I've never used Joey freshwater. I've used Jimmy
chestnuts before, but never Joey freshwater. Like he will lie

(08:20):
right to your face. You know, he's lying. He knows
he's lying. And it's still sort of this agreement. Like,
all right, here's what it is. Okay. Sure. It's like,
it's like being an exhausted parent when you know, your
kid's lying to you. I'll be tired sometimes. And I

(08:41):
know my son's not telling me the truth, but I'm
so worn down. Like, all right, man, whatever. Yeah. Okay. Sure.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Got it. And this has been every step of the way.
One day, he's trying to get professional players, guys that
have spent time in the NFL and preseason or on
train on rosters to come back to college. And the

(09:08):
next day, There's an excerpt from a book that's coming
out in which they describe Nick Saban having to tell
members of the coaching staff, hey, whatever you do, keep
Lane away from the sorority girls. And a pub owner
in Alabama having to call people at the school to say, hey,

(09:31):
Lane left the golf cart here overnight again. And then
two days later annihilates Clemson.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
What?

Speaker 2 (09:43):
It's just, it's this rollercoaster ride of, all right, I
don't like all of it makes me dizzy. All of
it like makes me a, but okay. That's just, that's
what we got. And that's what we're going to continue
to get. It's just the way of this world. it's
just how this whole thing is going to be done
and you just know on the other end of this

(10:08):
you know that he is going to burn LSU or
it's going to end poorly and then we'll probably end
up at another premier school It's amazing. And he says afterwards, well,
you know, I just didn't want those players being on
the roster to be the story. They're not. You're the story.

(10:33):
And whether you think it should be allowed or not allowed,
that's all separate from the point of this is sort
of the reputation that he has acquired and obtained over
years and years and years of burning things to the ground.
That bridge he walked across to get to pick a school,

(10:54):
pick an NFL organization, whatever. Oh, that got burned to
the ground immediately. I remember working in the South when
he left Tennessee to take the USC job. And what
did he do afterwards? Trolled him. He trolled him. Take

(11:16):
pictures as he was passing through Tennessee on recruiting trips.
Trolled him. Couldn't help him. Cannot help himself. He can't.
It's entertaining as hell, man. I'll say that. It is
entertaining to watch how this thing goes because everybody knows,
hey man, this is going to end bad and you're
all going to be pissed off too. Just so we're

(11:39):
clear here, you're all going to be pissed off about it.
I mean, Al Davis fired him, ripped him publicly beforehand.
Lane Kiffin once sent Sebastian Janikowski out from the infield
dirt at that dump they played at with the Raiders

(12:00):
because the A's were shared a stadium. He sent Janikowski
out to kick a 76-yard field goal.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
What?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Fired on a tarmac. Like leaving golf carts at a
pub overnight, chasing sorority girls, using fake aliases to meet chicks.
So look, man, they looked really good. That should be

(12:31):
the story. But unfortunately, the real story is, what's Lane
going to do next? And whether you want to say
it's good for college football or it's bad for college football,
you could argue that point. It is wildly entertaining. Jonas

a herd here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knox in
for Colin. We are going to have the Herdline News
coming up here in about 10 minutes from now, right
here on FSR. There was an article that came out

(14:23):
earlier just talking about, you know, the offseason and the
scandal and all that surrounding the New England Patriots and
Mike Frabel. You know, just kind of detailing that. You know,
where things stand when it comes to Mike Vrabel as
they get ready for the season. They're kicking off here
in a couple of days against the Patriots. They're talking about,

(14:43):
you know, just sort of how he's handled things. What
they've tried to do to move past this whole situation.
And I just... I don't know, man. I look at
the Mike Vrabel situation and I go... Super Bowl hangovers

(15:05):
are a real thing. Everybody knows that. Unless you're Patrick
Mahomes or Tom Brady, you know, you can lose a
Super Bowl and get back there and still have a shot.
But Super Bowl hangovers are a real thing. And the
problem for Mike Rabel in this situation is that if
the team struggles, which you can understand it. They were

(15:26):
in a Super Bowl last year, but I think a
lot of people would acknowledge that maybe that was a
team that got the benefit of a soft schedule. When
they got to the playoffs, they played a Chargers team
that was banged up, a quarterback that was banged up
in Justin Herbert. They played a Houston Texans team whose
defense was unbelievable, but their quarterback couldn't help but turn

(15:47):
the ball over. And then they played the Broncos who
had a backup quarterback because the starter got hurt the
previous week. And then they got to the Super Bowl
and got destroyed by the Seahawks. And so you look
at all that and you say, well, that would be
a team that you can understand would take a natural regression,

(16:10):
that would take a step back. And the problem with
the story like Mike Rabels and the Rossini stuff and
what came out and, no, it's nothing, and there's nothing.
And then it turns out, well, that wasn't the truth.
So people were lying. Well, what a shock.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
And.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Just the whole scandal. The problem is that story becomes
louder the more that they lose. So if they go
out on Wednesday night and get obliterated by Seattle again,
which I would say.
I would say that's probably a possibility. And I would

(16:48):
say if you were to ask anybody, like, hey, what
do you think is more likely here? That New England
goes out and looks good or Seattle wipes them out?
I would say probably Seattle wipes them out. So let's
say that happens. This stuff is only going to get louder.
Because then it's going to be, well, were the players focused?
Were they ready? You've got the Christian Gonzalez situation with

(17:10):
his contract. And somebody asked on WEI, Mike Vrabel, do
you find this to be a little bit of a distraction?
Is this a distraction, the Christian Gonzalez situation? He's like, no, no, no,
it's not a distraction. And I hear that and I go,
that's a welcomed conversation from Mike Vrabel. That sure is

(17:32):
how it beats all the stuff he's had to talk
about all offseason. Like, he'll take a player not happy
with his money over what's gone on this offseason any
day of the week. And so as this game approaches,
and we're only two days out, which is crazy to
think about, this story and the fact that ESPN dropped

(17:52):
the article today in talking about where things stand. I mean,
there's no real revelations in the article other than, you know,
we're pretty certain that, you know, Vrabel and Rossini did
try and, you know, corroborate their stories that they initially
came out with their statements.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
And all that.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
But it's just more everybody kind of acknowledging, Hey man,
like this, this could, you know, this, this, this might,
might be a little bit of a little bit of
an issue. Like they can, they can try and steer
away from it, but that that's still going to be
fresh in people's minds. And when NBC had the hall
of fame game and we're talking and previewing the first

(18:29):
game of the year, which will be Seattle, new England
coming up in a couple of days, uh, They addressed
this straight up. Maria Taylor talked to Mike Tomlin, talked
about it and said, look, if they struggle, this is
where this could come back up and be a topic
of conversation. And so when the athletic, you know, comes

(18:50):
out with their investigation, whatever you want to call that,
like some cockamamie investigation where they saw, well, I read,
I went through all these posts and all these videos
and podcasts that she was on and all this blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And they come out and say, well, you know, it
was a little bit awkward. You know, it wasn't how
we like to do it, but Hey, nothing more to
see here. Just nothing more to see. It's okay, dude. Like, Yeah.

(19:14):
Were you really going to come out and tell us
anything or confirm anything differently than we already know? We
saw the pictures. We saw them. There's there's countless numbers
of photos out there. We know we everybody knows what's
going on here. OK, we're all aware. Yes, it was awkward.
We are all aware. We totally were told full, full

(19:36):
transparency here now. Like we all get it. But like
that comes out. This article comes out. NBC's already talked
about it during the Hall of Fame game and previewing it.
It's going to continue to be a conversation. And so
when that investigation is concluded by The Athletic, if you
want to call it that, and Mike Vrabel gets asked

(19:58):
about it the other day and sort of, you know,
kind of dismisses the question and kind of answers it
and whatnot and whatever, And one of the rumors was
that he, you know, pulled the reporter who asked the
question aside and was maybe not happy that he was
asked about it. Like, dude, this is going to continue
to happen. Like, there's a lot of pressure for the

(20:19):
Patriots to go out and win this year. Not just
from the standpoint of you lost in the Super Bowl
and you lost bad. There's already questions about whether or
not you were legitimate last year.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Right?

Speaker 2 (20:29):
And look, I'm not speaking out of turn. I think
everybody felt that way. But if they go out and
they struggle... All of those questions are going to go
back to Mike Vrabel. Like, you're not really going to
totally escape this. There is going to be, oh, well,
you know, maybe they didn't look ready to go. Maybe

(20:49):
they didn't look... And then there's been, you know, rumors
out there that Diana Rossini's plotting a media return. It's like, okay, well,
then that'll pop back up and that'll stir back up. And, like,
I don't think that this is something to where... You know,
if they go out and win a bunch of games,
people are going to keep digging it up. It's just
going to be one of those things in the back
of everybody's mind that if they come out and they

(21:10):
look bad or they come out and they struggle, it's
going to be something that's in the back of your mind.
When the reality is that's probably not got anything to
do with it. What's got something to do with it
is that they benefited from a week schedule last year.
And they benefited from a pretty favorable path to get

(21:32):
to the Super Bowl last year. So, athletic investigation last week.
ESPN article that comes out earlier today. Seasons here on Wednesday.
The people that are doing the game on Wednesday, they're
going to be the ones that have already talked about

(21:52):
the story during the Hall of Fame game. I'm sure
that'll be brought up and be fresh in everybody's memory.
It's just, this is something that's going to linger a
little bit. And the more that this team struggles, the
more people are going to wonder and point to it.

Coming up in a little over 15 minutes from now,
when you make a really dumb decision or you make
a mistake, there's going to be some changes. And that
has happened in the world of football. We'll get into
that for you again a little over 15 minutes from now.

(22:54):
But right now, it's time for the Herdline News. Turn
on the news.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
This is the Herdline News.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
All right, Patrick Suika, what do we got? All right,
so we actually have an update to a couple weeks ago.
Remember when TCU had that big fight in the locker room,
like player-on-player action?

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Well, remember, it was covered by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram,
and they had their credentials revoked, right?

Speaker 2 (23:20):
That was a whole thing.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
Well, last Friday, a couple days ago, The four-word star
telegram had their credentials completely restored. Oh, look at that.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
Yes. Look at that. Exactly right. You know, God forbid
you report on a teammate caving in another teammate's head
in the locker room. That teammate who got bludgeoned and
blindsided by the teammate goes to the hospital. But, you know,

(23:50):
after they waited two, three hours to get him there.
And he's got a brain bleed. Yeah. Yeah, why would
anybody want to report on that? How dare you guys?
What a scummy move by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. That's
an awful look all the way around for TCU. All
the way around. First of all, the teammates getting in

(24:13):
a fight, it's not the first time you've seen or
heard about teammates getting in fights. There's stories upon stories
upon stories. I think Gilbert Arenas and somebody else pulled
guns in a locker room. It's not the first time
we've seen or heard about teammates getting in fights. We've
seen it on the field. There was Michael Westbrook and
a teammate with Washington. Steve Smith fought a teammate for Carolina.

(24:37):
We've seen this stuff before. But the fact that It happened.
The guy was seriously hurt because he was sucker punched
and was clearly banged up. And they waited to get
him to the hospital. And because of the delay, it
caused even more problems because he had a brain bleed.

(24:58):
And then the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports on it, and
TCU's first move is, oh, yeah, you're going to lose
your media credential now. Wait, what? Wait, hold on a second.
What are we doing here? What are we doing? That's
like the guy in Tennessee who had his media credential

(25:19):
revoked reportedly because he asked Cam Ward how he would
assess his play. Cam Ward said, well, how would you
assess it? He said, not good. And they had a
little back and forth and they reportedly took that guy's
media credential away. What are we doing? What are you
supposed to do? Kiss their ass? Is that really the

(25:39):
job of the reporter now? Unless you're an ass kisser,
you can't be in our building and cover this team. Okay, cool.
And here's the thing. Some would sign up for that.
And you know who those some are. But at TCU,
a guy gets his head caved in by a teammate.
He's got a brain bleed. Fort Worth Star Telegram reports

(26:02):
on it, and they're like, no, no, no, you lose
your credential. If I was a Fort Worth Star Telegram,
I would not cover that team. No, we're good here. Oh,
now we can have our media credential back? No, we're good.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
No, we're good.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Listen, you guys go do you. You guys go do you.
That whole thing is ridiculous. But... You know, there's a
market for that. And some people like to groove it
that way. They like to, you know, play fanboy or
fangirl as opposed to cover the team. And that's, by

(26:36):
the way, that is a real thing. There are some
people that go and cover games just because they want
the access or they want the ticket. And there's no
real reporting going on. There's no real reporting going on.
They just want the access. They want the ticket. They
want to, you know, post something online. on their Instagram
to say, Hey man, I'm here. Look at what I hate.

(26:57):
Look what I'm, it's like, yeah, what are you doing?
Are you covering the team? Are you reporting on the team?
Are you breaking news? Are you willing to make people
feel uncomfortable when you report a story, even though it's
not a favorable story? Are you willing to do that?
And there's a lot of people that aren't. And apparently
at TCU, if a player gets a canoe put in

(27:18):
his head, You've got to go ahead and not tell
that story because you won't be allowed to go to
their games to cover their team moving forward. Apparently, that's
how things work at TCU. What else we got, Patty?
All right.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
So we're actually going to move from college football now
to the NFL. So we actually had some news drop
yesterday on Sunday, Jonas. So we all know Roger Goodell,
commissioner of the NFL. Well, he ain't going anywhere anytime soon.
He has agreed to a new four-year extension that will
run to the 30, I'm sorry, the 2030 season. Technically,

(27:51):
his contract will expire on March 31st of 2031. And
he's going to be 72 years old, Jonas, at the
end of this.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Yeah, listen, he looks great. The guy looks great. I
would also say this is not a surprise to anybody.
He has made the owners in that league... billions of dollars.
And it's not just him. Look, you got to have
a product to put out there and whatnot. But there's
been some things that Roger Goodell has done that you

(28:20):
can say have pushed the league forward. And which is
kind of a far cry from where we were years ago,
where he tried to be the law and order guy
because they butchered the Ray Rice situation so bad. I mean,
they butchered that. And he had his fingerprints all over that.
I mean, just the handling of that was awful, which
is why the Josh Jacobs stuff, when that comes out,

(28:41):
you know, when we see how that whole thing plays out,
that'll be interesting to watch. But so you look at
the situation with Goodell, and you go, all right, so
once he stopped doing that, Once he stopped being that
guy and he just focused on growing the game, there's
things that he's tried to implement and do for the

(29:03):
NFL that has pushed it to where it's at. There
was a time when Tony Romo.
Which, by the way, I don't know if people are
familiar with Tony Romo. He does breathalyzer tests and field
sobriety tests barefoot in a parking lot in a police garage.
But never mind that. Tony Romo tried to put together

(29:25):
a fantasy football league or a fantasy football convention in Vegas.
And Roger Goodell in the NFL told him he couldn't
do it because that would be almost like being in
bed with a game with gambling. And there was this pushback.
and whatnot. And Roger Goodell was again. But since then,
I think Roger Goodell and everybody in the NFL, especially

(29:46):
Roger Goodell, looked at and said, well, maybe gambling's not
all that bad. You know, we don't want any scandals.
We don't want any guys, you know, betting on games
or fixing games or whatnot. We don't want, you know, like,
but there's a lot of revenue that comes in from
these gambling companies. And when you look at where the
NFL is at from an international standpoint, look, I'm not

(30:07):
crazy about all these international games. I have, you know,
it's probably cool if you can get to one. I'm
sure it is. That's awesome. I'm not crazy about all
of them. I don't think the idea that we're starting
seasons off in Australia or Brazil or, you know, pick
a continent, whatever you want to call it, is necessarily

(30:27):
the best thing. But it's hard to argue with the
fact that financially, the league is at a place that
it has never been before. And it just seems to
get bigger and bigger and bigger. And Roger Goodell, with
the help of the owners, but he's really the guy...
which is why he keeps getting these extensions and signing
these extensions. And he's made all the money he's made,

(30:50):
which by the way, I think after this contract, pay,
look it up. What is Roger Goodell's career earnings? Like
just look at what, what his career earnings are. It
is a preposterous number. How much Roger, Roger Goodell's made
as NFL owner. Oh, I got it right here.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
It's accumulated an estimated $ 500 million to $ 700 million in
career earnings.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Dude, so, like, that's... Like, he's at a half billion
and above, right? And he only gets there because he's
also lined the pockets of these owners. And he's got
his flaws. There's some things about the league that a
lot of people don't like. There's some stuff maybe a
little bit hypocritical and whatnot. But when you look at

(31:37):
where we're at from an NFL standpoint and the popularity
of the league, Roger Goodell is the guy. who deserves
to get the credit for that like he does like
he's the and you need the product on the field
and you need all of this but he's the guy
and and when he says something it's probably going to
get done when he talks about you know we plan
on being over in europe at some point here in

(31:59):
the not so distant future you're going to see a
full division of nfl teams in europe that's gonna happen
And whether I like it or anybody else likes it,
that's going to be where we are because his whole
goal is, how can I make the game bigger? How
can I put us in all these different countries? How
can I get this many games, have a game every

(32:21):
single week be international? And it used to be, man,
send the Jaguars over to London because nobody goes to
their games anyways. They put a pool on the top
deck and nobody cares about them. And now you've seen
Germany and Mexico and Brazil and Australia and all of
these other places, Ireland, all of these places that have
popped up. So not surprising at all that Roger Goodell

(32:45):
got paid. That seemingly, that looked like exactly where it
was going to go. That looked like exactly where this
was all headed. And so if you are not a
fan of Roger Goodell... Or if you don't like sort
of the way he handled things at the start of
his time as commissioner, totally get it. But it's hard
to argue with the financial success that the league has

(33:05):
had since. That's the Herdline News.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Well, that's the news.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
And thanks for stopping by.

Speaker 1 (33:13):

at Jonas Knox Show. All right, it's coming up next. Apparently,
as it turns out, when you make a dumb decision,
football or anywhere, it's going to cost you. We'll explain

(33:38):
right here on FSR.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
It's Saheer here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knox in
for Colin. By the way, coming up top at next hour,
a little over 15 minutes from now. there's a coach
in the NFL that's changing his tune. They have changed
their tune on a situation in the league. That'll be

(34:15):
yours again, coming up here a little over 15 minutes
from now. But I was thinking about this just in,
in watching some of these teams in week one, because look,
LSU was great. And there's been some really dominant performances.
Notre Dame figured things out and bounced back at the
second half and, and, and looked really good against Wisconsin and,
I'm not a big fan of the unis, but it

(34:36):
is what it is. But I also this does kind
of speak to I totally get it when a college
football team in week one schedules a cupcake. I totally
get it, man. I used to be one of those. Oh, God, well,
there's this and that. But to me and when people
complain about the top 25 matchups. To me, if you're

(34:59):
opening up your season and you don't get a preseason,
wouldn't you like a little bit of a ramp up period?
Credit where credit's due. Look, Ole Miss, that was a
ranked opponent for whatever that's worth, whatever those numbers mean.
But when you see a team struggle, when you see
an Oregon struggle, when you see some of these other
programs struggle, who knows with Michigan? I mean, and by

(35:21):
the way, who knows what's going to happen with Underwood,
their quarterback? You've got Kyle Whittingham talking about, well, we're
going to stick by him for now and we'll see.
But anytime a team struggles in week one of college football,
I look at it and I go, you've had no
preseason before. So I totally understand why we would get

(35:45):
maybe an underwhelming slate of games on paper. Because I
think that teams look at this and say, why don't
we at least get one under our belts? All right,
let's at least get one under our belts. We don't
need to get out there and schedule a top five
team right away. It would be great to watch and
it's entertaining for us. But that to me makes a

(36:06):
lot of sense. I do think there is a value
to the preseason. And in college football, you don't have
a preseason. So these teams are basically going out there
and just saying, all right, let's give it a whirl.
And you've got some 18, 19-year-old kids. I mean, in
some places, they're like 29 now, so who knows? But
I just look at it and I go, anybody that
complained about the slate of games, it's been a really,

(36:29):
really entertaining weekend in college football. But to me, scheduling
a program lower than you to start off the year,
that to me does make sense. I mean, Rutgers and UMass,
I don't know who the lower program is. I'll be
honest with you. I'm not sure. I have no idea.
I know UMass got paid. I know that. So, yeah,

(36:53):
schedule a cupcake early on, you know, kind of a
nice little ramp up period. And then you start firing
away at some of these bigger, bigger programs and higher
ranked programs later in the year. That to me makes
a lot of sense. I know people don't like it initially, but.
But I would also encourage you to enjoy the weekend
of college football that you got, because a lot of
this stuff has been played out in the courts anyways.

(37:14):
The real preseason game in college football was insert player
A versus a court system somewhere in America. So the
fact that we have actual games we can watch and
partake in. This whole holiday weekend, I think, is tremendous.
Jonas Knox in for Colin here on The Herd. By
the way, you can check out our YouTube channel for

You can also check us out on YouTube. at two

(37:56):
pros fsr within youtube again that's two pros fsr hit
the subscribe button after you've done that tap the thumbs
up icon and comment away whether you agree or disagree
let us know what you think again you just search
two pros fsr on youtube and subscribe so they uh
the pro football hall of fame made some changes um
you know they've kind of limited the number of voters
and they've kind of done all these things wow we're

(38:17):
gonna modify this and we're gonna you know move this
around here and we're gonna why it's because uh As
it turns out, when you make an awful decision that
nobody can explain, that maybe it might implement some changes,
you know, widespread changes to the whole process. Is that

(38:38):
what it was? The fact that Bill Belichick, the greatest
coach in the history of the league, the fact that
he wasn't a first ballot guy right away, that maybe
might have led to some changes, might have been a problem, right?
It's just, yeah, as it turns out, when you botch

(39:00):
the greatest coach of all time getting in, yeah, we're
going to need to move some things around here. It's
weird how that works. And by the way, I was
looking at some of the reasonings behind why Belichick didn't
get in and just, you know, kind of going back
and people pointing to the scandals. All those, the Deflategate scandal,

(39:21):
and the Spygate, and the scandal here, and this scandal. Okay, okay, okay.
All right. Yeah, so so the scandal okay so the
scandals got you that's like well you know yeah but
what about uh some people you know arguments about yeah
what has he done since tom brady okay all right Okay,
so he had no involvement. He had no part. He

(39:43):
had no say whatsoever in the Tom Brady time in
New England. Had nothing to do with that. He was
just there on the sidelines. You could have gone to COVID,
taken a cardboard cutout from one of the crowds, just
put it on the sideline, dressed as Belichick, give him
a hoodie with cut-off sleeves, give him no personality, and
just say, hey, there he is. That's the coach of

(40:03):
the Patriots. Anybody could do it. Okay.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
All right.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
But Belichick's got that reputation and people want to find
something to complain about with him. But the idea that
that guy's credentials and his resume weren't Hall of Fame
worthy right out of the gate is kind of insane.

(40:27):
And so, yes, the Hall of Fame needed to make
some changes. I mean, there's there's, you know, some of
the people that vote on the Baseball Hall of Fame. Like,
where they pick and choose who they want to... They'll
play favoritism and give this guy a nod and that
guy a nod. Oh, this guy was a cheater. All right, well,
if you really want to go and do a deep
dive on the history and the reputation of some of

(40:52):
those players in the Baseball Hall of Fame, if you
really want to play that game, we could play that game.
I'm pretty sure that Ty Cobb might have murdered somebody. But,
you know what we'll do? We'll let so-and-so from this
publication determine somebody else's legacy because of what they chose

(41:14):
to be acceptable and not acceptable. Belichick not getting in
was completely unacceptable. And so, yes, if you're the Hall
of Fame, you needed to make some changes. You needed
to reduce the number of people voting on it. And
you need to make sure that something like that doesn't
happen again because it makes a mockery of the entire thing.
