College foot our one.

Speaker 6 (01:02):
What an amazing playoff so far, the amazing slate of
games that took place, and now we're heading towards the
big one of them all at the Orange Bowl. Miami
will play against Indiana for all the marbles. But now
we're gonna switch and we're gonna talk NFL in hour

(01:22):
two and before we get to all of that, obviously,
you're gonna want to have some good eats while you're
watching these games today. Make sure you put some original
Louisiana Hot sauce on it when you're getting your food
right and while you're watching the games. It's the perfect
balance of Pepper's vinegar and salt, wings, nachos, burgers. It
don't matter what you're gonna be cooking up and eating today,
make sure you hit that tailgate food with the bold,

(01:45):
handcrafted flavor of the original Louisiana Hot sauce. That's Louisiana Hot.
Make sure you buy you some. And well, he talks basketball.
He's a basketball insider, he's a basketball voice. He is
known by the pe in the industry. But we're gonna
do some football today. Who am I talking about? Well,
when you hear this, you know who's coming up next.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Now it's time to check in with Cuffs, the legend
from some Dude show podcast on Upon Game Presents, Cuffs
is giving you a spicy takes on what's going.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
Down pat the heat.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Like Lebron And now here's Cuff's the legend it's cold time. Legend.

Speaker 6 (02:31):
All right, there's some spicy conversations taking taking place, and
one of the most spiciest spicy conversation nerves.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
We'll say this Cuffs the legend. You know how you feel, Cuffs.

Speaker 6 (02:46):
Why do you be posting so much food on your
on your on your on your feed.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Man.

Speaker 7 (02:56):
Man, you know I'm a gladiator. You know what I'm saying. Okay, carbs,
I mean heavy ProTeam. Man, it's a life of a gladiator.
Because I'm going to Trader Joe's when we finish this show.
When we fis this show, Trader Joe, my wife don't
have me in nineteen stores on Saturday with all this
football on, all these sports on, I'm gonna be at
nineteen stores second bost Scores. But other than that, man,

(03:20):
it's like seventy eighth degrees today in North Carolina. I
got basketball shorts on in January that my Indiana Hoosiers
are in the College Football Championship. He's a later, but

(03:41):
you know we got NFL Wildcard weekend. You know it's
legacy weekend. It's legacy time. Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence, he
got their pretty hair like TJ who's Mazana. It's legacy time,
you know what I'm saying. But other than that, fellas,
you know, I'm getting some jets tonight. I'm getting it.
I can do it right now. I'm looking forward to

(04:01):
my pizza and all the.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Football because I gotta tell you, man before we go
in there. For when you go to Trader Joe's today, Man,
make sure you get the chocolate peanut butter vegan cups.
They come in a yellow resealable bag, a vegan chocolate
peanut butter cups.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
Absolutely outstanding. Since she was.

Speaker 7 (04:25):
Normal normally get those flas. I normally get the regular
dark chocolate peanut butter cubs from from Trader Joe's, but
I didn't know they had the vegan.

Speaker 6 (04:32):
They got the vegan ones. Man, that's very interesting, you
greedy and catch Let's hey, there's gonna be some game.
Cats was eating in these playoff games yesterday. Uh, they're
going to be eaten today. And you got two games,
the Rams and the Panthers. They come on, Uh the first,

(04:54):
they're the first game, that's four thirty Eastern Standard, and
then you got the Packers and the Beers that will
be round it out later at eight pm Eastern time. Uh,
talk to me, man, talk to us about what you feel.
I mean, obviously it's a Carolina team that's involved. They
get a home game against the Rams. I really think
that Carolina could actually pull off an upset today. Could

(05:17):
be the travel, could be the weather, could that helps
them out. But what cous how are you looking at
the Carolina Panthers game today with the Rams.

Speaker 7 (05:27):
But if I put my fan heat on, man, First off,
the Carolina Panthers got it right because they're letting Cam
Newton bang to keep it, keep pounding, drugging before the game, right,
So it's gonna be electric in the city of Charlotte.
I should have actually went to the city of Charlotte.
It's like two hours from me. The city's gonna be
jumping all attention. And I feel like all the pressure

(05:50):
is really going to be on Bryce Young today, man,
because it's been at the most of his road so far,
like he's been being in North Carolina and being around
the Panther Based on a day to day you would
say that most of the fan base would say they're
not sold on Bryce Shaw, like they feel like they
might need to move in a different rate. Yeah, and
if you watch the pressers with Canalis and the coaches,

(06:15):
you know it's always positive. It's always that. But in
the streets, man, the real heart and core fans out here,
this is like a game where he can silence a
lot of haters and critics tonight because they're like with
ten and a half the point doll under dog. I
think to the Rams, nobody's really looking or expecting the

(06:35):
Panthers to win. But it would be an amazing story.
But I feel like it's gonna be a tough task
because you got cool cut man, you got Davonte if
he's probably with eighty percent right now, but you still
got that running game where Karen Wims and the Blake
Krum Kid from Michigan. So I don't know I'm gonna
go with the Rams in that game. But I'm really
looking forward to Justin Herbert as well. He's another guy

(06:58):
ten and a half, you got, you gotta, you gotta
stole these critics. That's why I said this legacy weekend,
even for Josh Allen, Like I do think the Jaguarres
are a better team, so I hate that the narrative
is going to be Josh Allen couldn't get it done
when if we really be honest, guys, like this Bill's
roster is it's right, The LA Lakers roster is rubbish. Hmm,

(07:21):
it's looking like rubbish.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Like do y'all think McDermott is on the line if
they don't win. I tend to think.

Speaker 6 (07:28):
I feel like Tomlin and McDermott are two names, and
Lafleur to round it out. I feel like those three
are names that could be in a little bit of
danger if if they don't have a good showing in
the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
What's a good showing winning?

Speaker 4 (07:42):
Yeah, I would assume. I would assume.

Speaker 8 (07:45):
So if that's the case, then it's gonna be more
vacancies because all three of them ain't winning.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
That's a fact. Dang man.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
I'm just here just trying to pick it back off
of what I've said, man, And I'm gonna go back
to what I've said over the past five years. The
Carolina Panthers are the fifteen the host a playoff game
with a losing record. Everybody in the NFC South was
eight and nine. Then if you win the division and
you have a losing record and the opposing team has

(08:19):
a winning record, you should not be able to host
a home playoff game.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
That's just how I feel.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
It takes me back to twenty ten when the Seattle
Seahawks was seventy nine and they beat eleven and five
Saints team Drew Brees, they went to Seattle and lost.
So this, like Kuff said, I believe if Bryce Young
doesn't win this game today, I think the Carolina Panthers
will be heading in another direction. But man, I'm just

(08:46):
never sold on Matthew Stafford. A month ago, everybody was
saying he was the MVP of the league, and then
he puts on this game last week against the Atlanta thousand,
and he looks bad those three interceptions. So I just
don't know what Matt Stafford I would get. I mean,
you have a Silicol first team All Pro today, you

(09:07):
got Davontae Adams back. They should be able to go
on there and win this game by double digits. But
I just don't know what Matthew Stafford I'm going to
get because some night, some days he looks like the MVP,
and last week he looked like an average quarterback against
the Atlanta Falcons. So I think that I think of

(09:29):
this Rams win this game. But I can't just sit
here and say that they're going to be a double
digit win against the Kerluta Panthers.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
They're hosting a playoff game.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
I think they understand and know that they have an
opportunity to win a playoff game with a losing record.
But if the Kenleunta Panthers do not get it done today,
I believe that they are going to be moving in
a different direction with the head coach Bryce.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
Young, and they're going to blow this thing up and
it's going to NA that's not doing that. They're not doing.

Speaker 8 (10:04):
That's what I believe They're not this this Dave Canal
is second year, still good t J. They in the playoffs,
though you got to think when he got there, where
were they and where they are? Eight nine in the division.
But this is this is the thing. Though Bryce Seung
is showing progress. They finally drafted their number one receiver
in Tam Mac.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
I don't know.

Speaker 8 (10:25):
I know he has a really good he has He
trains with a person that really is teaching you know,
how to play the receiver position the right way.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
The man who told you he told you something.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
Something comes.

Speaker 7 (10:44):
Man.

Speaker 8 (10:45):
I feel like Dave Canal is is set for me.
Bryce Sung can't be the reason they lose. The Rams
have not played good football down the stretch, but everybody,
and I'm part of everybody, believes they may. They have
one of the best teams in the league. Offensively, they
are a complete team. They can win the game on offense,

(11:05):
they can win the game on defense.

Speaker 5 (11:07):
The Los Angeles Rams.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
Carolin, well, they're not complete. They can win.

Speaker 8 (11:11):
And so when it's when you're an home playoff team
and you're a ten and a half point underdog, there's
no way you're getting fired for losing.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
Everybody thinks you're gonna do this.

Speaker 8 (11:24):
Ain't a three points, ten and a half points in
the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
And you just beat the team. Who fun is that?
It's the coach's fall. They just beat the Rams and
they're a ten and a half point underdog at home.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
You mean, so, you mean to tell me they're not
gonna fire Canal because they going into a game as
a double digit point zero dog do this is zero
percent chance. So now I'm feel sorry for him, because
they ain't sorry for him.

Speaker 8 (11:51):
It's a heavyweight fight in the middleweight you getting you losing.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
That is true.

Speaker 6 (11:57):
That is true that I would agree with that that statement.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
Now y'all trying to find excuses. Stop it, man, I.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
Got I got Carolina. I got Carolina upsetting them today.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
Just so y'all know.

Speaker 8 (12:09):
I mean, oh my gosh, this is why y'all don't
people that's listening when we do up on game.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
That's why you don't listen in here.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
That's that's why he just did last every weekend, every week.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
Hey, you sing crazy until until it happened.

Speaker 6 (12:29):
Yeah, I be like I'm just said, I might the
sun might shine on my ass once in my life.
I'm a blind dog. It might shine on me once.
It might be today, and it might be the rams
going in from from this nice weather out here in
California to the cold weather and on the East coast

(12:50):
and having to deal with.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
Time degrees in North Carolina. It's like they're playing in California.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
Brother seventy five here, brother.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
A fol you weather?

Speaker 4 (13:01):
Yeah, they might be all right, man.

Speaker 8 (13:04):
Possible thunderstorms, possible thunderstorms.

Speaker 5 (13:06):
I just looked at a possible.

Speaker 7 (13:08):
What cuffs y'all guys played in playoff games? Right? All
three you guys played in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
Before, right?

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Correct?

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Sure? Yep, yep.

Speaker 7 (13:18):
More than the home field advantage that if you look
across the board today, like which game do you feel
like probably has where it's really a factor? How much
a factor is as well asking how much is that
home court?

Speaker 6 (13:30):
It depends on what team you plan. Yeah, that's what
I would say.

Speaker 7 (13:34):
So who had who? Out of the games this weekend?
Who do you think has the biggest home field advantage?
It's a real thing.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Uh, nobody, Because I said, if you if you look
at the uh the Chicago Bears in the green Bay game,
the proximity between both, I think it's going to be
like fifty to fifty. I mean it's a it's a
it's a it's a big rivalry. But green Bay travels
well also, So I don't think it's going to be

(14:02):
any bigger home field advantage for the best just because
they're playing the home because everybody's expecting for green Bay
to going in win this football game.

Speaker 6 (14:12):
So but I'm taking the Keystone State, Take the Keystone State,
take your pick. I think the Tech the Steelers only
had absolutely a chance. The Steelers only have a chance
of winning this game because of home why advantage?

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Because they playing on Monday night? Look at the Pittsburgh
still his home game record when they play on Monday night.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
They lost, it's a great it's a great record. I
look that up.

Speaker 8 (14:38):
Also, Yeah, I remember I've seen that, Tom but Bru,
that d line, that defense is nasty.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
Bro.

Speaker 7 (14:45):
I think it's time, Fellers, it's time for Croud Man
to remind everybody. I said this on Twitter.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
Early hasn't he hasn't.

Speaker 7 (14:54):
He was the number two pick man in Panther Nation,
in this area where I'm located. Panther fans that still
to this day wish they would have drafted CJ. Stroud
over Bright young and it's still they're still young. Both
guys are still young. But I feel like this is
his playoffs. He has the defense. You got Nico Collins,

(15:15):
who I feel like is elite man, got daunt chows like,
you got some guys, You got the Higgins kid from
Iowa State. You got some weapons, bro, you got some
running back what he marks like you can do Nick
Chubbs moving to puppies like, I feel like c J.
Stroud has no excuses but get it done.

Speaker 6 (15:33):
I feel like game right the forty nine ers have
been stealing games through amazing coaching. I mean just phenomenal
job that this coaching staff has done with being such
shorthand you got five Juggernaut players and at one point
in time you really only had one of them up

(15:54):
and playing, and they were still able to win games.
But I think that it catches up to them. The
home field advantage is very real in Philadelphia as well.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
I think the.

Speaker 6 (16:04):
Eagles, the Eagles will be very, very difficult to be
at home, very difficult to come in and beat at home.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
I just don't think the forty nine ers can overcome
what happened to them last week. I mean, you sitting
there looking, you know, sixty minutes of being two games
away at home and playing for a world championship in
your building. I think it's an emotional letdown, a coaching
letdown from everybody in that organization. They knew that they

(16:33):
blew the opportunity. And I said last I said last
week that I had to back up one of what
I said from the forty niners because I thought they
wonder it was closed. And I said that they lost
that game last week, in which they did, and now
you're looking at they have to travel to They're gonna
have to go to.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
Either that banged on them though, they're gonna have.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
To go to They're going to Philadelphia. If they happened
to make it out of Philadelphia, then they're probably gonna
have to either go to Green Bay or Chicago.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
It's gonna be a long roll for them moving forward.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
But just like Lavoss said, I think the home field
advantage for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the and the Philadelphia Eagles,
or the two series or the two teams that the opponents,
the opposing team is going to field up the home
field and Philly Pittsburgh, hey, well, you never know, might

(17:29):
be old.

Speaker 7 (17:30):
New England guys. Don't forget about fun Burrow.

Speaker 6 (17:33):
They knew they doing really well. But I don't know
what their home field advantage look like right now. I mean,
mikey v got them rolling, but you know I ain't
gonna get too caught up into that. I don't know, TJ,
you got the last word on before we hit this break.

Speaker 8 (17:48):
I want to go back to the Eagles Niners. The
way the Niners struggled blocking that Seattle front. Do they
know who they are about to play? And since Jalen
Phillips has become a fill of there for Eagle, the
pass rush is even better. And so I know they
didn't have Trent Williams, but they struggled blocking that Seattle front.

(18:11):
I don't know what they're gonna do against his Eagles
front and Kyle Shanahan always has problems putting up points
against Vic Fangio defenses.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
I think it's gonna be some fun games to watch.
But yeah, home field advantage, I think that belongs in
the Keystone State and home field advantage for radio shows,
that belongs with Up On Game. And that's what you're
listening to right now. You got Cuffs, the legend on
from some dude show. You got plus Kokee Burrs they
call him Stretch Armstrong, and we got TJ.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Hitchmanside pad teen Man.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
Yeah, his hair has been looking really good on them
podcast videos they've been posting on social media. You might
want to check that out. We're gonna take a quick
break on the other side of the break. Yeah, we're
gonna continue to talk pro but it might be basketball
a little bit now we mix into it. But you
know what, I want to talk this transfer portal and

(19:09):
you know what, from a basketball perspective, it'll be interesting
to hear Cuffs. What you think about that. So we
will get back to pros and we do got up
on game down on game. But you know what, we
gotta have this conversation on this transfer portal portal because
it's just it's just weighing on me and I gotta
hear what y'all think about it. So y'all going to
get an opportunity to hear that as well. Stay locked in,

(19:30):

our guy, mister Isaac, who wasn't grown.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
Yeah, that's great, lebar, good for you. Cuffs, cuffs, this
sold me out.

Speaker 7 (20:43):
Forgets all right, big show does Ilo? This is my
favorite time of the week, my brother, Hey, look, I
thought I saw somebody last night in a car at McDonald's.
They looked like you. They were eating a meg real Iilo,
was that you? Are you a mac reel guy?

Speaker 5 (20:58):
Calo?

Speaker 9 (20:59):
So are How are you.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Back to me?

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Yeah, come on back.

Speaker 9 (21:05):
What kind of a vehicle was this individual behind the
wheel of vem? Was he devastatingly handsome?

Speaker 7 (21:12):
Yeah? I think I thank you will. It looked like
Rick Rude, like the old raft of Rick Rude, smooth
fellow man them.

Speaker 9 (21:19):
Well then it was me, yeah with the tights. By
the way, Hey, cuffs, can I ask you something?

Speaker 4 (21:27):
Cuffs?

Speaker 1 (21:27):
What anybody cuffs?

Speaker 9 (21:29):
Why does everybody at the gym got to be on
their phone?

Speaker 7 (21:33):
Annoying? Annoying every time? If like everybody's a cloud face
the content creator. Now you can't get a workout here.
Everybody got these phones out. You're hitting on the machine
for five minutes. Get out of it. Get out of
the way. Man. Let the real gladiate his workout.

Speaker 6 (21:48):
All right, You just had a social post that you're
sitting in the weight room, dob.

Speaker 9 (21:54):
Well, he's yeah, he's legitimately trying to get a workout.

Speaker 7 (21:57):
Ed by my pelt coat.

Speaker 5 (21:58):
Get me.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
But you're still cloud out, Jason yourself.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
He doesn't need to chase cloud. Cloud chases cuffs just
like it chases me.

Speaker 9 (22:05):
Oh, y'all need maar, y'all need to take notes anyway,
Let's take some notes on what's going on with the
Falcons and the Miami Dolphins. The Falcons today hired former
quarterback Matt Ryan is their new president of football Operations.
Ryan played fourteen seasons with the Falcons. He was the
NFL's MVP in twenty sixteen. That was also the year
he'll lead the Falcons to Super Bowl fifty one. Falcons

(22:28):
today interview Dolphins defensive coordinary Anthony Weaver for their head
coaching job. NFL Media reports the Dolphins have requested an
interview with forty nine Ers defensive coordinator Robert solid for
their head coaching job, as well as Rams defensive coordinator
Chris Shula, who, of course is the grandson of legendary
Dolphins coach Don Shula. The Dolphins also reached out to

(22:50):
former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh about their head coaching job.
The Athletic reported today that back on Tuesday, Harbaugh was
fired by the Ravens via a phone call while he
was driving home from the team facility. And finally, the
Buffalo Bills have just ruled out receiver Joshua Palmer for
Sunday's game at Jacksonville due to an ankle injury. Cuffs,

(23:12):
I mean LeVar back to you.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Hey, that's all right. We appreciate you all. Have a
great day.

Speaker 6 (23:17):
Enjoy one of them mckrib sandwiches that Cuffs saw you
eating the other day in that pinto. Yeah, we appreciate
the updates. If anybody miss any of the day's show.

check out our show. All right, the full show will
be posted right after we get off the air. Guys,
there's been a lot of conversations back and forth about
the athletes hitting.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
The transfer portal.

Speaker 6 (24:01):
The transfer portal has become such a major part of
college football and obviously transferring and different things like that
in basketball cuffs. I know in your world, like that's
that's you know, they're either transferring or they're one and
done in basketball. But here's here's one conversation that has surfaced,

(24:24):
and it I don't know that it's been getting a
lot of run, and I want to get your guys's
opinion on it.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
Is these guys are there, there's such.

Speaker 6 (24:32):
A high rate of guys going into the transfer portal.
People are debating about the amounts of numbers that are
going out there and being offered to these players for
these big, major contracts. And you're also seeing Georgia just
was in the news for suing a player for a
full amount of money that was within a contract that

(24:53):
they wanted to be paid back, even though they didn't
pay him the full amount that was in the agreement. Now,
these are all the conversations that are taking place. I
see a lot of blaming on the parents, a lot
of blaming on the athlete, these agents that are involved
a lot of that. But guys, one thing that you know,
me having my feet on the ground and being so

(25:14):
connected to the game and knowing what's going on around here,
I just want to throw this one out at y'all.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
And that was me being sarcastic.

Speaker 6 (25:21):
Y'all out there listening, but I want to throw this
one out at y'all. I was trying to figure out
the total roles of these gms and now that they're
hiring gms and they're making it a thing to make
make it where people know that each of these programs
are bringing in gms. I thought it was for recruiting,

(25:43):
and it is, but it's also for letting these players
that are currently on the rosters know if they're wanted
or not still by the team. So one of the
conversations that has come up that is not really maybe
catching a lot of momentum, is that these kids are

(26:05):
being forced into the transfer portal because they're no longer
wanted at the schools they're at. I want to get
y'all's opinion on that because I have never heard of this.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
I've heard of a guy they don't want on the team.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
You'll you'll do certain things to try to get him
to quit the team or want to transfer, leave the team.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
I've heard of that.

Speaker 6 (26:25):
I've never heard of an actual team at the college
level cutting a guy telling him they don't want him
anymore and he needs to go. What I mean, where
are you guys? Where do you guys fall on this?
On this like kind of current like developing deal where
they're sending guys they're giving them no other recourse but

(26:47):
to enter into the transfer portal because they're not wanted
after school.

Speaker 4 (26:52):
There's currently at.

Speaker 5 (26:55):
Listen, it's a it's a new age of college football.

Speaker 7 (26:59):
Man.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
We just kind of talk about this earlier. If you can.

Speaker 8 (27:02):
Play with twenty three and twenty four year olds, and
when why wouldn't you. It's almost as if, unless you're
a four or five star recruit, the high school kids
they're an afterthought, because why would you take a high
school kid that's eighteen, nineteen years old when you get
somebody that's twenty one, twenty two, twenty three, has kind

(27:25):
of been through the college regiment and you have an
idea of what it is, and you're ready to jump
in and play a lot sooner than the high school kids.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
And so I love the.

Speaker 8 (27:38):
Portal because kids can get some financial stability. It has
its pluses and as minuses. They just got to figure
out how many times can the kid transfer? Is it unlimited?
Once they figure that out, because coaches come and go.
That's the thing that I hated. Coaches can come and
go as he pleased. They're the adults. But you want

(28:01):
to put all these restrictions on athletes that make the
coaches all this money?

Speaker 4 (28:07):
Who wonted? I mean, y'all, y'all got quiet?

Speaker 5 (28:09):
Is it? Who?

Speaker 7 (28:12):
This portal was crazy because on the fan side, growing
up in the acc country, we saw Duke Carolina. You
as a boy, you used to remember to start in fives.
I feel like all the nostalgia and the robberies are
getting lost in the mist all this nil stuff and
transfer portal because me watching like even the college playoffs,
look at Indiana, it's a roster full of family men.

(28:34):
They look like they look like to remember Longer's Yard
with Burt Reynolds and Adam Toowner. They look like that's
like a yelhouse team, Like, it's amazing to see how
far it's come. Man Like, even in the n C
Double A, Like, there's no upsets anymore. There's no upsets
because the playing field has been leveled. Like me having
a grassroots background training and developing kids. Man, I've seen

(28:58):
it now. I've been dealing with this before it even
came to college sports. Like the dynamic has been there
since I will say the early mid two thousand, two
thousand and nine, twenty ten. Like it was at a
time where we coach kids where you could coach kids hard,
you really could. Now even at the grassrooms level, they

(29:20):
gone bro, they are going the same. I've seen kids
switch teams the same in the same gym the same
weekend at the same tournament because the coaches coach at
or they don't like their coach. So that's the aspect
I see even in college now, I've trained kids that
I've had under my wing that have transferred because they

(29:42):
don't like the coach after one game, after two games.
You know what I'm saying. That nobody's going through the
fire anymore. So I would say the hunger is what
we got to look at.

Speaker 4 (29:51):
Guys, are gods.

Speaker 7 (29:52):
Still going to be hungry to get to the league.
Do you know how hungry y'all were to get out
of the trenches and get to the league. I feel like, now,
did you get that? Back in college?

Speaker 6 (30:02):
I hung out with rich folks. I wasn't hungry like
I just played, you know, I just you know, I was.

Speaker 7 (30:07):
Yeah, you love the game, the water, That's what I'm saying.
That's missing. Our kids still going to love the game
though outide of the corn.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
Yeah, man, it goes back like you know, Penny Penny
Hardaway said it best man last year. It's like after
the basketball season you got to re recruit your own players.
And it's crazy enough as it is. And I remember
the Honey Badger talking about, you know, he glad what
he's glad what he went through to l SU because

(30:39):
he had you know, Pat Pete and Clayborne and Ryan
Clark and all of those guys in front of him.
You know, it motivated him to work hard, to be
a starter. And you know, those things doesn't exist anymore.
And I'm just looking at you know, I sit here
with my son every day. He's been home for the
for the breaking like he's a leaving Notre Dame that

(31:02):
used to be a school that everybody wanted to go to,
and it just seems like, well, I know for a
fact that you know, this whole nil thing and money
has trump education. It's not what it used to be.
And to see you know, kids leave these you know,
you know, these prestigious universities to go you know, play

(31:25):
you know, basketball or football. I mean, that is where
we are at now. And I took it a step further.
You know, I talked about Pat Coogan's earlier, you know,
going to Indiana.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
You look at Keiwan Lacey. Uh, you know, he was
at Missouri.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Now he's shining at an old miss one of the
best running backs in all the football. How does it
feel to a coach when a player that you're trying to,
you know, teach and give knowledge to about this game
they up and transfer, they're going to Portal and now
you're watching these kids having an ultimate success, Like, how

(32:01):
does that feel to you as a coach? Are you,
you know, not teaching these kids the right way to
pay the game? Teach always says it comes down to coaching,
But I'm seeing a lot of these kids. They're going
into Portal and they're having a lot of success in

(32:23):
other places, So that has to play in your mind
as a coach. Am I doing a good enough job
to put together a program, whether it's basketball or football,
that the kids that I recruit and bring in and
they're not having the success, and I'm watching them going

(32:44):
to other programs and they're having the ultimate sets. How
does that play on the mind as a head coach.
It's an interesting question.

Speaker 6 (32:55):
I still I think there's a lost people out there,
and I think that they're they're heading home. They're heading
to small universities, they're heading to you know, community colleges.
They're they're heading to to junior colleges because they're they're
not wanted. I guess the days of oh, you're overrated

(33:16):
are gone, because if you're overrated, they're sending you on
your way.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
You're not going to have a roster spot on the team. Uh.

Speaker 6 (33:23):
Please do away with saying amateurism. Please do away with
saying that these these young people are not employees of
the university, because it sounds more and more every single
day like guys are being hired and fired to go
play at the college level. That's just one man's word

(33:44):
and one man's opinion.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
You hurt everybody else's as well.

Speaker 6 (33:47):
On the other side of this break, we're gonna do
up on Game, down on Game, and finish this thing out.
I wanted to get to obviously, the trades. I know
Trey Youngen is up in Washington, stuff like that. But
hey man, when it gets heavy with football, it's heavy
with football. When it's heavy with basketball and basketball seasons
gonna be heavy with basketball. So y'all just got to
take it as it comes. You did what I'm saying,

(34:07):
because that's what we do when we put you up
on Game. This Fox Sports Radio cuffs, It's Plex, It's
TJ and LeVar.

Speaker 4 (34:13):
Will be right back.

Speaker 6 (34:15):
All right, Welcome back into the show. Everybody. This is
up on Game. We are winding down. Make sure you
stay locked and loaded. Jonas Knox will be coming up
immediately following our show. He does a great show. Make

(34:35):
and you can hit us up on our social horns
as well our handles to give us show topics and
feedback as well.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
Before we get.

Speaker 6 (34:43):
Into up on Game, down on game. Let's hit this
basketball super super quick. What you got plex, what you
got cuffs on on this whole basketball deal?

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Cuff, San Antonio Spurs, we should have listen. They lost
two games, they lost by five to let him lose
one in Memphis. We saw what they did to your
Los Angeles Lakers in LA. They beat them by sixteen.
What do you think about them playing Jaylen Brown in
the Boston Celtics to night? And also, if Lebron James
misses one more games, he's ineligible for all awards.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
What you think for I go ahead, go ahead, cuffs.

Speaker 7 (35:22):
You got it, you got I think the Spurs would
be just fine. Man. Right now they're trying to integrate
wom be Yama back into that. That's thirty five. He's
been coming off the bench here and there. But I
think I think the Spurs would be fine. The team
I'm worried about right now is a thunder man. They
look a real shaky baby.

Speaker 4 (35:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (35:38):
Look at man, It's crazy how how fast that changed. Right?
You remember, like maybe a month ago on here last
couple of Saturdays, it was like he got might win
seventy three games. So I'm looking at I'm looking at
that side of the thing to because the Western congresce
right now is getting spicy. We see John Moranz being
dangled out there. He's being put out there. So the

(36:00):
Miami heat, you know, you might want to come out here,
pat Riley, have one final run, bring a big fish
to Miami. Or you might can bring John with his
former South Carolina hornets AAU teammate Zion Wimson down in
New Orleans. But he either way, I think John Morant
needs a change of scenery and shout out to my
light skinned brother in Christ, Trey Young in DC. He's

(36:22):
going to bring that electricity back to the nation's capital.
John Wall was doing the dougie you know give with
the Ringers. He had the city on fire at one time.
An Twan Jamison, Karen Butler and those guys. So Trey
Young he misunderstood. He's led the league in assists in
points several times. He's going to bring the city back
in DC. I'm waiting for I'm looking forward to Sean

(36:44):
tray Young.

Speaker 8 (36:46):
It was shocking to me that Trey Young would want
to go to Washington, considering how bad they've been. That
shows me he really believes in what he is and
who he is as a player. Oklahoma City, Yeah, they've
been realing. It's like, what is going on this all
NBA and you miss X amount of games Cups?

Speaker 5 (37:06):
I said this, tell me what you think about this.

Speaker 8 (37:08):
If you miss three four consecutive games, that means you're
really injured. I'm talking Yokic, You're really injured. It shouldn't
be a sixty five game minimum.

Speaker 5 (37:18):
Now.

Speaker 8 (37:19):
They put the sixty five game minimum in for guys
that were we just resting on back of the back
load management type of things. If a god's really injured,
they should probably lower that threshold to about fifty to
sixty one games. Because a guy like Jokish just truly injured.
He deserves to accomplish what his game on the court

(37:41):
is doing, and so he gonna miss out on something
that because he's gonna probably play in sixty four to
sixty maybe sixty three games. I just don't think it's fair.
It's for an injury. They put this in for load management.

Speaker 7 (37:55):
But Kawhi Leonard, I know you don't want to say
the name, but Kawhi Leonard Rue is a low management
Kawhi rule. But Broun is out there right now like you,
Like you said, bron is out there right now. He
might miss out on all NBA selections, but he's fifty
three years old. And I would say the Lakers offense
right now is running smoother with Braun handling the ball.

(38:15):
I'm telling you what's happening right now. Laker Nathan is
finding out what Luca ball is. Luca ball. It looks
good a lot of nights. It's electrifying. He's gonna make
these crazy shots, these circuit shots. You're gonna win against
sorry teams, but when you play athletic guards, you're gonna
get exposed. And you saw it last night with the Bucks, Giannis,
Ryan Rawlins, Kevin Porter Junior. Everybody was eating man. So

(38:37):
I'm just saying the jig might be her rent On
JJ Redick in La Man.

Speaker 6 (38:41):
The Fellers wanted to talk basketball. We talked basketball. Now, Brie,
give us the results from last week's up on game,
down on game. We won't do the imaging, Okay, we're
gonna do the imaging.

Speaker 4 (38:53):
Okay, all right, you guys.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
Last week, TJ, let's start off with you.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
You went two and four, okay, two and.

Speaker 9 (39:04):
Four, and yeah, LeVar and Plack you guys both went
three and three.

Speaker 6 (39:10):
All right, damn all right, let's just pick, Let's just pick,
let's just pick the game.

Speaker 4 (39:14):
What what?

Speaker 5 (39:14):
What games? You got?

Speaker 6 (39:15):
Packers and Bear Packers are point and a half favorites
over four and a.

Speaker 5 (39:20):
Half taking the Bears in under Bears, under Bears.

Speaker 4 (39:23):
Under Oh okay for me. Okay, that's it, guys, That's
that's all we got time for.

Speaker 6 (39:31):
Hey, we wanted to talk basketball. Enjoy Jonas Knox. This
is up on game Fox Sports Radio.
