So we got a ton to get to. But the
story of the day was the story that broke last night.
What is it about? When I get off air in Minneapolis.

(01:24):
Two nights ago, I get off air and Blake Griffin traded.
Last night, I get off air and Alex Smith is traded.
Tonight I'll get off air in what's left. It's gonna
be a baseball trade. Right, we had basketball, we had football.
There's gotta be a baseball trade or a baseball signing
Bryce Harper or who else. Uh, Manny Machado, Manny Machado

(01:46):
will be moved tonight. That's got That's the only possible topper.
And yeah, the first ever sixty point triple double took
place last night. That did, in fact happen. Uh guess
Kevin Love got hurt. We'll get to that. But the
story is Kirk Cousins is now out, Alex Smith is in,
and we all knew it's It's not that we didn't

(02:07):
know that Alex Smith was going to be on the move.
They drafted Pat Mahomes. They traded up to draft Pat Mahomes,
who's got a huge arm. Dad was a pro baseball player,
huge arm. Needed a lot of work with his footwork.
But I mean, like he's the polar opposite of Alex Smith. Right,
Alex Smith is safe, Alex Smith is sensible, and they're

(02:29):
swinging for the fences with with Pat Mahomes. And if
you saw him in the preseason, like dude, and he
saw in Week seventeen, you're like, dude. And so there
was talk of Alex Smith. Well he could go to
Cleveland because John Dorsey's there, he came from Kansas City.
Well he could go to Jacksonville because they would kill
for a safe, smart quarterback that doesn't turn it over.

(02:49):
Well he could go to he couldn't go to Denver
because Denver's in division. Maybe go to to Arizona because
uh hey, hey, look the last his last gray game
with the San Francisco forty Niners. People forget this, before
he lost his job because he had a concussion, he
had basically a perfect game against Arizona Cardinals on Monday
Night Football. They don't forget they need a quarterback, but

(03:13):
instead he's traded to the Washington Redskins, which kind of
answers the questions were also always with the Redskins, like
all right, like if you're not gonna sign Kirk Cousins
to a long term deal, like what is your plan be?
Now we know? And then we we had Kirk Cousins
on the show yesterday. I thought this was an interesting

(03:34):
response when I asked him about some of the comments
Jay Gruden had made after games and after the season
with regards to his play. People are tired of their opinions,
and I've always tried to do my best to ignore
the noise and not not let it get to me.
Certainly take coaching and you know, make sure you use
it to become a better player, not take it personally.
But I understand what he's saying. But the implication is
that you know seven and nine and the quarterback player

(03:56):
the exact same thing. And I think it's slightly more
complicated than that in terms of what takes that to
have a record. Even if we had gone thirteen and three,
it's not all my responsibility to go thirty and three,
where it's all it's all Kirk. You know, that wouldn't
happened either. Okay. So here's the way I look at
so many of these things, like relationships, okay, and the
Washington Redskins in many ways always thought of Kirk Cousins,

(04:19):
like fourth round pick, Kirk Cousins. They could never get
over the fact that he was the fourth round pick.
And this happens in a lot of places where you
might you might work. Right, if you're a guy who
started in the mail room and now of a sudden
you're tree, You're you know, you're trying applying to be
a manager. They're like, dude, you're starting the mail room.
This happens in the military, right right, Like there's a

(04:39):
ceiling for an enlisted men in the like wait a second,
hold on. If you went to West Point, which is great,
it takes unbelievable school of unbelievable grades and work ethic
to get into west Point, But if you're a listed man,
you can never like the chance to There's just ranks
that you'll never achieve as an enlisted man. There's just

(04:59):
not And that's what Kirk Cousins is. And look, maybe
he doesn't have the stuff to be an officer, to
be a commander, to be a general in the army
of the Washington Redskins, right, But I don't know. I
kind of feel for Kirk Cousins. Kirk Cousins is probably
like that enlisted men, like, dude, you're gonna go out
and get Alex Smith, who's an older version of me. Okay,

(05:22):
you're gonna go out to get Alex Smith who got
beat out in San Francisco and essentially is getting beat
out in Kansas City. Like Okay, Now, look, this is
sensible for the Redskins. I'm sure they knew. And when
what happens is with relations this is how it relates
to relationships. Hey, I told you. I've told people all week,

(05:44):
all month, really all basketball season. When I give any
uh negative analysis about your basketball team, and I say,
for example, Perdue one of the top five teams in
the country school record winning streak, when people say, well,
why are you a negative? Like, well, have issues. There's
teams that they struggle to guard because they're not athletic
at center and at their wing spots. But the good

(06:06):
thing is everybody has issues, right every relationship. I've been
married seventeen years. My wife and I got an argument
last night. It's over we're not you know, not carrying
out in public. We got an argument about something kind
of petty. That happens. But when you start, when you're arguing,
arguments start becoming public, when they start to fester, when
everyone knows, like, hey, that's weird. Right, We're at a

(06:30):
dinner party at their house. It was Christmas and they
were like arguing, like like, oh, they're not gonna make it.
And that's what happened with the Skins and with Kirk.
They're not gonna make it. And you know what kind
of feels like a fair trade. What the Redskins got,
they got cost certainty. They cost certainty. They're like, oh,

(06:51):
seventy million dollars guaranteed, Like okay, but that's not top
dollar for quarterbacks. That's not crazy money. It's not twenty
million dollars a year. It was like seventeen a year
or something like that, seventeen this year, and average is
out just north of that. Once you kind of break
it down, like okay, that's not crazy money. So you
got above average money, which will end up being you know,

(07:15):
middle of the pack, four starting quarterbacks, and that's who
Alex Smith is, and you've got cost certainty for four years,
and I think we know how this is gonna go.
Alex Smith's gonna be steady. Alex Smith is gonna be solid.
Alex Smith can take you to the playoffs, and he
can't take you to the super Bowl, right And if
you think that, it's like, well wait a second, why
aren't you trying for the super Like look at the Redskins.
You've been roller coaster city for years. You gotta fix

(07:38):
a bunch of other problems. This stabilizes the quarterback. I
can't believe he gave up a third round picking and
a and a and a really good young cornerback. Well,
you gotta give up something to get him. It's not
like the Kansai Chiefs are gonna go here. Why don't
you take him for free? And for the Chiefs, they
did the best they could with a depreciating asset. Right,

(08:01):
they had a guy to which everyone knew they wanted
to get off the books before the year was over.
And maybe they shot for more, but you end up
getting a third round pick and a guy who can
play right away in a defense that needs some help.
It's a trade. Didn't you ever trade food? When you're
in elementary school, right, Like if you had oreos and

(08:23):
you want to trade your oreos, you want to get
something back in return. Now, I'm not gonna say that
that Alex Smith is Oreo cookies. He might be Oreo
cookies where you know, one of the tops of him
is kind of peeled off, some of the cream is
that missing? It looks like somebody who took a bite
from one of them, but they're still kind of oreos, right,
And so would you get back in return? You got

(08:45):
a chocolate milk? Now what becomes fascinated? Where does Kirk
Cousins go? Because Cousins feels like a younger version of
an Alex Smith, a guy who will, on some levels
be underappreciated. But maybe it's because we know who he is.

(09:06):
He's fine. He's not great. He's not Tom Brady, he's
not Aaron Rodgers. He's not the some super elite quarterback.
But he's also not somebody who's gonna throw thirty interceptions
on a year and get and and uh and lead
your coaches to getting fired. It's fine. He's a double.
He's a double. What can we expect from Pat Mahomes?

(09:32):
One of his closest friends on the team is Uh
Kareem Hunt, two rookies who came in together, the third
round pick, the pro bowler, yard rusher, the guy who
dropped the football the first time he touched it, then
beat the same New England Patriots almost by himself, joins
us upcoming next, But first, who's your Valentine and what
do you love about them? Most? Uh? The music. He's

(09:56):
been dating his same check for over a year, so
he has still plenty of valent Time's Day gifts for
to get. I'm kind of running out of stuff, right,
I've done all the different jewelries, I've done flowers, I've
done the card, I've forgotten, I've done the trip, I've done.
A gift from Sherry's Berries is a perfect way to
make a big impression this Valentine's Day, Right, Like, you
can't get her pilates class, that wouldn't go over well.

(10:18):
But if you get her berries, it's like, oh, it's
very thoughtful on the other hand, and ain't gonna put
ain't gonna put weight on her either. Boys, who doesn't
love Sherry's berries. There's a little bit of lingerie to
it too, because you can eat the Sherry's Berries too,
and I love raspberries and strawberries, and my listeners can

for you on James Harden's first ever, NBA's first ever
sixty triple double, Kevin Love's broken hand, crazy stuff going
on in the NBA. Um. We'll get to that upcoming,
plus an update top of the hour, I mean half
past the hour. As to everything else going on the

(11:45):
world sports, Who gets trade tonight? Right, Blake? Two Night's
go Kirk last night? Somebody gotta get trade tonight. I'm
assuming I not Kirk Alex Smith. Sorry, let redo that
tweet that was about tweeting bad Alex gonna get man.
That's uh my bad lere we go delete that? Good enough? Okay,
Um here he is. Let's welcome in, um Man, this guy.

(12:08):
What a year he had? What a year? Chiefs running
back Kareem Hunt joining me on the Doug Gotlip Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Pro Bowler, you just finished your
rookie season. This is your your first time on on
radio road. Let me ask you last year this time,
where were you actually? I was down at i MG training,

(12:28):
you know in Brandonton, Florida. You know I watched it,
you know the Falcons first, uh you know, uh Patriots Patriots, Yeah,
obviously I knew that, but uh yeah, I was down
there just you know, trying and watching the game with
some of the you know guys. Okay, So, like I mean,
I'm sure you wanted to go higher than being in
the third round, but all things considered one year later,

(12:49):
to be a pro bowler yards rushing to have the
kind of respect that you get when you walk around
Radio Row, when you walk around the side of the
Super Bowl, what's this? What's its been like for you?
You know, it's uh, it's it's it's been great. You know,
it's something you know, you you would dream of. And
you know back then, I wouldn't have think, I think
to be the leading Russia or you know, be a

(13:12):
pro bowler my first year, and you know it just
shows how hard you know, I worked for it, and
you know how how hard work really pays off. Okay,
show first fumble and you're not. You didn't fumble in college,
Like that's one of the things. Was like, sure, hands,
Uh what do you remember about the first time you
touched the football in the NFL game? I remember, you know,

(13:33):
I kind of just me just thinking about before I
went out there, I kind of grabbed the football. You know,
I was like, Alex, let me feel the football, you know,
get a feel for it. I was just thinking about
not making a mistake, and uh, you know what I did.
I went out there and made a mistake on the
first Dayrea, So I feel like I was, you know,
just up tight a little bit, and uh, you know,
I kind of was a little lacks of days ago

(13:54):
with the football on it. You know, I let it go.
But but one of the things that's special about Andy
Reid as opposed to a lot there's a lot of
coaches that'll be like, just sit there and figure it out.
I'll go with somebody else. Right, he's young guy, he's
not ready for this. Uh. He obviously believed in you.
I know, teammates believe in you. But then there's something
that you have inside yourself to be able to alight

(14:15):
it made a mistake and then you dominated that game
from that point forward. That's kind of one of the
most remarkable starts in the history of the league. Dude,
It's not just not just this year, Like no one
does that. How do you have that in you to
bounce back from something like that? You know, Uh, it's
really just in my blood, you know, not to just
you know, beat myself up about it. You know, everybody

(14:36):
makes mistakes, and I just knew I was a better
player than that, and uh, it really helped me out
knowing that Andy Reid was like, you know, don't worry
about it, forget about it. We're gonna give you the
ball next place, so be ready. So when he told
me I was getting the ball next play, I just
started preparing my mind for what I was gonna do
with the ball next play. And uh, and whoever got
in my way, I was trying to punish them for,

(14:56):
you know, me making the mistake. Kareem Hunt joining us
in the Duck Out Lip Show here on Fox Sports
Trade if you've forgotten, because it was the first game
of the season, he had a hundred forty eight yards
rushing ninety eight yards, receiving two hundred forty six total
yards and they beat the a f C champion Patriots
on the road to start the season and the rest,
as they say, is history. Uh, your quarterback was Alex Smith.
We know that. You know, they had been floated that

(15:17):
he could be moved. What was your reaction when you
heard last night that now Pat Mahomes is your guy,
but Alex Smith is now with the Washington Redskins. Uh,
you know I found out at dinner, and uh, it
was kind of it was really tough, you know, because
you know, me and Alex had a great connection, and uh,
I just know how good of a player he is,
and you know he's he's a leader, and you know

(15:38):
he he loves to win and always gonna go out
there and can beat and he knew that offense inside out.
So uh, just seeing a guy like that go, you know,
he had his best career and you know, it just
shows you how how big of a business this is. Yeah,
so did what did somebody tell you at dinner? Did
you look at your phone? Your phone start blowing up,
like somebody told me a dinner. Actually, my marketing ladies,

(15:59):
he showed me on their phone and I couldn't even
believe that. The first person I picked up and calls Tyreek,
I'm like, yo, you see this. He's like you hear
what happened? And uh, He's like, know what happened? Bro,
is like, you know Alex is gone? Now. I was like, no, wait,
let me go look at this. That's amazing to now Pat,
Pat another rookie when one of your guys, and we
saw him play week seventeen, he tore the preseason. He

(16:21):
saw him play it at Texas Tech. Like he now
he's different than Alex, Like that dude has a absolute cannon.
So uh, as much as playing with Alex was fun
and it's like a vet and he'd seen everything, there is,
there is something. There has to be some sort of
energy to Pat Mahomes. This guy's got a shot to
be really something specially, Uh, he really does and Pat

(16:43):
is really like my best friend out there, and me
and him hang out all the time, you know, just
outside of the wait. You just told me Alex was
your best friend, you said before you put on that.
You're like, we gotta like, You're like, I don't even
like Pat Mahomes and then all of a sudden he
comes You gotta, no, he's my best friend. No, we
got a good connection me and Alex. You know, I
like Alex, but you know Pat is literally like my

(17:03):
my guy. You know, we hang out. I don't hang
out with Alex outside of football professional relationship. This is
more personal relations and me and him were like guys.
So me and Pat we are you know, we hang out,
go grab something to eat and whatever. So you know,
I'm just excited to see what he does because I
know how talented he is, and you know, his arm
is very crazy. You could throw that ball seven yards easily,

(17:26):
and you know it, it's so strong you can't even
you know, sometimes you know, you don't expect him to
make these throws, you know, off his back foot, you know,
on a run, and you know a lot of things
I like to see it. I think I see a
lot of Brett Farvan you. Uh, you you learned a
lot obviously from that first carry and to what you
did in the game. Uh. Look, the Chiefs historically have

(17:48):
had this problem of big leads in the playoffs, and
you guys had a big Like I was at halftime,
I was shut off the TV. It was like, man,
this is a wrap they're going on. Can't City's gonna what?
What did you personally learn from what happened against Tennessee? Honestly,
I just feel like, you know, as a group, we
all relaxed, you know, and we all got comfortable. We
all thought, yeah, what we're doing after the game. We're

(18:11):
going moving on type deal. And I feel like, you know,
we gotta you know, keep the foot on the pedal
the whole game and uh just play like we're down.
And honestly, we gotta really disclose the team out when
we already got them one day back. So you know,
Once we start doing that, we're gonna be very unstoppable.
It was a long time ago, but you did gash
this Patriots defense, which is kind of reworked itself. And

(18:34):
obviously now, uh they're in the Super Bowl. What are
your thoughts on how the Eagles match up with the Pats?
How do you how do you do what you did
to the Pats on two Bowl Sunday if you're the Eagles. Honestly,
you just gotta go out there and play physical. You know,
you gotta from the first player, you gotta be very
physical with them. And uh, you know, the Eagles got
three good backs, and uh, they just gotta come ready

(18:55):
to play, you know, set the tone up front and uh,
you know, just really attack those guys all night long.
And then they gotta letting Nick Foles get comfortable back
there and you know, hit his receiving and you know
it's tight end. And I feel like the Eagles will
be all right if they can do that. But uh,
you know, you it's hard to go against the you know,
the Pats. You know they got you know, that guy
on the other side of the field. You know, it's

(19:16):
you know, they got twelve um and and I think
that you also have to I mean, like, look, um,
you have to keep scoring, right like that. That's kind
of that's kind of that was kind of like if
you look back on in your thing against the Titans,
like you didn't get the ball much in the second half. Um,
and and if you look at Jacksonville, they got a
little bit tight in the second half. When you have
that lead, you gotta keep putting up points because you

(19:38):
know Brady's gonna keep putting up points. Oh yeah, and
you gotta be ready to stop him all night. And
you you you really, I don't think you're gonna stop.
And you gotta just maintain them. Uh. The FedEx Air
and Ground NFL Players of the Year Award recognized top
quarterback top running back in the two thousand and seventeen
NFL season. Fans can submit their vote for nominated quarterbacks
and running backs until three Eastern time tomorrow sorrow, that's

(20:00):
February one. You go to NFL dot com slash uh FedEx.
FedEx will make a five donation to the U s
O in the name of both the winning quarterback and
running back. Obviously you're up for that award. How here's
my here's my challenge to you, like, look, man, you're
still just you know, you're still just kind of a
kid of dude. How do you maintain this level being

(20:21):
humble like this in the next five years? Right like
five years from now, we're gonna have you up here
and you're gonna have a bunch of Pro Bowls and
maybe a ring. How do you? How do you? How
can you be the same guy then that you are now?
You know, just continue doing what I do and hanging
out with the same people I hung out what you
know to get to this point. And uh, I'm really
not a person who liked chains, so I'm really not

(20:42):
gonna change much at all. And uh, I'm gonna continue
doing what I do. I love a game of football,
and you know, I don't think anybody can take that
from me. Have you ever seen a human being as
fast as Tyreek? No? Never, And uh it's kind of
it's kind of crazy to see how fast he can
pick up speed and you know, go from zero to
add I mean, it's it's like look at my Oklahoma

(21:03):
State alum. Like I mean, like it's it's crazy, like
it's it just has a different gear than anyone else
I've ever seen. That gear that makes teams look like
they're in slow motion. And honestly, he's killing angles. Uh
and then and then the deuces when he Now where
do you come where do you come up with that?
I mean peace? You know, once he well, once he's gone,

(21:24):
he's gone. But it's like the it's the it's the
perfect touchdown celebration, right perfect like see you later. You know, well,
there's a there's a new sheriff in town's Pat Mahomes,
you new quarterback. Congrats on an outstanding rookie season, the
Pro Bowl and everything will hope you win this award,
the FedEx Air and Ground NFL Player of the Year.
Appreciate you being on Fox Sports. Thank you. And you

(21:45):
also could tweet it by h hunt hashtag Aaron Ground.
So make sure you go out there and tweet that.
So it's wait, it's hashtag hunt Aaron groundshta Aaron Ground.
I had no idea you could do that, ye, So
if you tweet that, you know, to get the votes
hunt and then you got a hashtag here and okay, okay,

(22:06):
but but so the hunt doesn't have to be connected
with the air and Ground. The hashtag gets picked up,
so you might not win in the online vote, but
you could win in the twitter votes. Alright, big in
the Twitter sphere, he's Kareem Hunt. Thanks so much, d
Kareem Hunt joining us that I was awesome. Ask conditions
in the field, change soaking your insurance needs. Talk with
the farmer's agent day so you can assess with your policies.

(22:27):
Game ready, find an agent at farmers dot com. Let's
bring in Dan Buyer. No one traded yet today, No no,
but it looks like Adrian Peterson is gonna get released
by the Cardinals, so that stint is short. That's according
to Arizona Sports. It's a Wednesday at the Super Bowl,
so Doug, that means things are kind of getting back

(22:50):
to normal. The Philadelphia Eagles already had their first media
availability of this Wednesday. Patriots are a little later today,
but it's this normal suit I talked about is a
good thing for Zach Ertz and the Philadelphia Eagles. Nick
just wants to go out there and play first teammates
and play good football. And whether we scored ten points

(23:11):
and win or forty points and need to win, He's
gonna do whatever it takes to win the football game.
He was scored fifteen against the Falcons and then thirty
eight last week against the Vikings, so he's gonna do
whatever he needs to win. That was actually zach Ertz
talking about Nick Foles, who probably also is excited to
get back to normal for things um. But anyway, the Eagles,
tonk Today and the Patriots all had their media available

(23:33):
abilities in a couple of hours. Sandwich in between the
Eagles and Patriots talking to the media. Roger Goodell having
a State of the League address earlier today, saying that
the league is not going to react to Thursday Night injuries,
saying that data over the last five years has shown
that this past season was the only time there was
an actual uptick in the number of injuries suffered on

(23:54):
Thursday Night, but says they want to look at it
as a whole, and of course they want to make
the league safer. Also says they continue to try to
figure out what is a catch and what is not
a catch. And the Rams and Chiefs have been confirmed
to play in Mexico City next season, just don't know
what date that game is gonna be. So Kareem Mount's
gonna be going to Mexico City. That's pretty good stuff.
And one more thing, as people have been talking about Fox,

(24:15):
the new home to Thursday night football, getting a five
year deal to broadcast the games, should be exciting for
the Fox Television network. And that's stand by damn. What's
interesting about that is uh what I've been told and
I not not headhead bosses, but some of the bosses
are like, look, uh if if you and people have
a short memory, a right, Fox never didn't have sports

(24:38):
and when they put the flag in the ground for Fox,
the sport that started Fox Sports was NFL football. They
took NFL football away from CBS. CBS had a good
window there where they didn't have NFL football and it
kind of killed CBS Sports for a long time. And uh,
as I think I don't know how much listeners you
guys pay attention to the trades, but um, most of

(25:01):
the Fox properties, the movie properties and the vault of
movies and other stuff have been sold off to Disney.
What hasn't been sold off as Fox Sports and Fox
News and the local affiliates, and so it's looked at
it as kind of new Fox, and in in a
bold move to launch the new Fox, stick the flag
in the ground and get not just Thursday football, but

(25:22):
get for five years. So the only thing I wish
they would have done, and I have no idea I'm
not privy to these negotiations, is if they could have
gotten the NFL to go like, hey, we're gonna extend
the season by a week, give the extra bye week
so that teams that play on Thursday night and the
eleven Thursday nights that Fox gonna broadcast are always coming
off of a boy. But other than that, like, um,
this is you know what, this is a lot like

(25:43):
this is a lot like the Kirk Cousins thing. Okay,
here's how I understand that people are gonna say, hey,
Fox overbid fort overpaid for it, paid more than anybody
else is willing to pay, and and both CBS and
NBC we're gonna pay less than they want played previously. Right. Um.
The problem with it is you can't look at things

(26:04):
in a vacuum. Right. Uh. The hardest thing to beat
in politics, right is an incumbent. It's hard for Fox
to come in and say, hey, you should completely change
what you're doing Thursday night and do it for a
million dollars more or five million dollars more. Over the
life of the deal, you gotta blow somebody out of
the water in order to get it. Additionally, unlike other
entities like Foxes on Fox Network Fox Thursday Night, Uh

(26:29):
tell me a show you watch on Thursday Night that's
on Fox. I don't even know. I don't even know this. Um,
So for Fox it becomes even more important because you're
gonna win that night. You're gonna win the night. No
matter how how what you think of the NFL and
Thursday night games, they've the ones that run on network
TV have been good games and have one that night

(26:49):
that's huge in network TV, and so would be. And
maybe you overpaid or maybe underpaid. You get cost certainty
for the next five years. You know what you're paying. No,
your money is going and all that money was found
money from the Disney State anyway, It's not like they're
robbing Peter to pay Paul. So I'm obviously who's not
fired up about it. All Right, we gotta get to
some basketball stuff up coming. Dan will be back with

(27:09):
a game in a moment, but first, Uh, let's welcome
in the Super Bowl champions the three time Poro bowler.
He works for the NFL network. Man he's got some
sparkling blue eyes and a huge Super Bowl ring on
his hand. He's Shan O'Hara. He joins us here on
the Doug Gottlieb Show, And I gotta ask you about
this game in a moment if we get time. But, um,
you've played in the Super Bowl, and you know we

(27:32):
heard Dan Buyer was was talking about how they're getting
back to normalcy. But it's not a normal week, right,
You're both staying in a hotel, you go to the stadium,
You're not going to your practic facility. Like, it's just different.
How you watch film, the longer halftime is a different
when when you actually play the game, is it different
from another football game? Yeah, the game, it definitely feels different.

(27:54):
I think you feel the magnitude as the game's going
on that band. This could be the play that determines
before the world chimps. Yeah, absolutely. I mean I'll never
forget that. You know, look the throat of Tyree. I
remember when Eli let that go. I thought, oh no,
like I thought he threw a pick, you know, because
you don't throw the late over the middle like that,
And it just worked out. So yeah, you're cognizant of that.

(28:16):
I mean all week long, you know, you're you're you're
trying to make sure you leave no stone on turn.
Obviously you're you're preparing, but physically, you know, this is it.
This is the last game. So you're not holding anything back.
You're not worried about man, you know, I got another
game to play next week. Like that's it. So you're
selling out. But the emotional aspect of it, I remember
walking out on the field to do my own warm

(28:38):
up before the game and I walked out there and
I just kind of looked around and it's it was surreal.
It was almost like a dream that man, I'm here
in the super Bowl. This is happening, this is this
is real. And I looked up and I saw my
family in the stands, and I started to get emotional,
and I'm like, you know, I had to check myself
getting together, what's wrong with you? And because it's it

(28:58):
really it was new, but not every but it has
that thinking man's quality that offensive linemen have right to
where you under like some dudes are just like, yo,
let's go ball, let's go play, right, Yeah, we call
him defensive players. Wide receivers are just like I don't
really care just as long as I get the ball. Yeah,
I mean, everybody's different. I think. I think even in
that magnitude, you you kind of realize that, you know,
you kind of you you can't wait for the game

(29:20):
to start. To be honest, here it's your kind of
to your point, all the hoop, all the hype, everything
going in. You know, hey, look it's twenty minutes from
from before kick. Once you get in and playing the game,
that's where you're in your comfort zone because it's what
you've done. But there is a there is a i'll
just as the basketball player at Allergy is, it doesn't
matter high school basketball, college bast where you play the
NSA turn and playing a big professional game, like there's

(29:41):
hype and there's a buzz and everybody's dunking in warm
ups and feeling good about yourself, and then first TV
time out you're like, oh, I'm kind of tired, right.
Do you have that kind of adrenaline where you have
to get that second wind? Yeah, yeah, certainly, And and
and then you have the long halftime, so that plays
a factor. I think back to Super Before two, the
first drive, we get the ball, just start the game.
We took like ten minutes off the clock. Um, and

(30:03):
I think that first drive their defense was huffing and
puffing and Vince Wilfork, I mean he was sucking the
year out of my loans. So I and I remember
we came over. When I looked at Christian Year sort,
I'm like, man, is it hot here? Like like we were,
we were kind of gas. It was a long drive,
but yeah, you kind of have to, you know, you
gotta kind of pitch yourself and uh, you gotta make
sure your hydra. The one thing about indoor buildings, Yeah,
they get hot real quick. So you gotta make sure

(30:25):
that you're you're you're staying hydra. Shan O'Hara on Super Sunday,
NFL Network provides eight and a half hours of pregame
covered CHOHn is gonna be on all eight and a
half hours. By the way, I think he's gotta stay
hydrade in the Super Bowl. He's gonna every hour on
the hour. Shan will be on I'm kidding sort of
starting at nine am Eastern time. All right, let's get
to football stuff. First, they were gonna city Lie and
they sat him for a game, and then there was

(30:46):
an uproar and then he lies back on the field.
They never saw what Davis Webb had. You end up
changing coaches, changing general managers. Eli still there. Now you
hire a new gentleal manager, a new coach that way,
now he lies still the guy. Um, look, I know
you played with him. I know you're a believer in
the church of of Eli. Legitimately, though, how much does

(31:07):
he have left? It's a great question. Yeah. I mean,
I don't think anybody knows what their life expectancy is,
let let alone their NFL lives. But I know this,
you know, I went back this year watched a lot
of the throws. He made some unbelievable throws with pressure
getting hit. The ball had to come out so quick.
I mean, he was getting the ball out quicker than
Tom Brady. And and Tom does it by design. Eli

(31:30):
did it because he had to write. So he was
like Sam Bradford last year. Yeah, it's I mean, look
at it was tough to watch. I mean the Gihonists
this year we're a total mess. I mean they were
a mess on the field. And then when you incorporate
that fiasco with Hay Eli gets benched against Oakland. I
mean we should still be talking about his streak. You know,
it's crazy to me that that this streak ended because

(31:51):
they wanted to see Gino Smith play, like with all
the respect of Geno, No, I don't think. I think actually, honestly,
I think it is Geno. If it was anybody other
than if they had put Davis Webb in, even un
not ready, I think people would go like, all right,
they want to look at the kid. It would have
been too early. But it's I think it's because it
was New York. Because people in New York don't like Gino,
and because you're like Gino is opposed to Eli. That

(32:11):
doesn't make any sense that you're right in the fact
that Gina was not the future, right, So that aspect
of it, But it was also it was it was
the wrong time. This was if it was week seventeen
and they said, look the size over, Hey, look we
just want to we want to get give somebody else reps, yeah,
it would have been different. Um. But it just was
completely mismanaged, which is why they had a clean house

(32:32):
and the communication was obviously not there. But Eli still
has good football on him. I still think I think
he could play for another five years if he wanted,
you know, certainly another three or four because his arm
is still there. And and here's the key, he still
loves the preparation that it takes to get ready for
a season. When that disappears, when that becomes laborious, then

(32:53):
you know it signed walking. And and when your skill
set diminishes, like his brother, like I think Peyton still
wanted to play, but his arm just he just didn't
have the arm anymore. So, uh, you have you have
such a high pick, do you invest it in running back?
And stae Kwon Barkley? You know, Giants fans were like, hey,
we're never gonna be We're never a top five team.
We gotta get a quarterback. You're like, wait, you gotta
get somebody who protects Eli Manning. Um, it might be

(33:15):
a little high for alignment at that point. At that
point in time, if you're Dave Gentleman and you're whispering
Dave Gentleman's ear, what's the right investment? How do you
stretch a dollar? Really is basically what it comes down to.
Because they have so many holes to fix on that
team that you almost to me. Dave Gentleman has gone
on record saying I gotta protect the franchise. I think

(33:36):
the best way you protect the franchise is your trade back.
Now you don't you're not gonna say that because you
don't want to give your hand away. You don't want
to diminish the value. I think excitement wise, taking State
Kwon Barkley the best player in the draft, and you
know how many Penn State fans are in the New
York tri state area. I mean, they would go nuts.
So you're immediately getting your fan base back on board.
The one problem is who's blocking for him? Yeah, you know,
you can take the best your guy's offensive line. You

(33:58):
know the lines that you guys want with those are
not highly you know, most of the high howd of guys.
You guys did a good job, but kind of patchworking
and a lot of lower drafted guys that wasn't that
kind of the m O with the Giant rich Sorber
and I were undrafted guys. Big Deal was a fifth
round pick. Christny was the second round pick. I think
Kareem was a first round pick to the Jets. Um
So you don't have to do it all in the

(34:19):
first round. You don't have to do it in you know,
the first three rounds of the draft. But you gotta
get guys that are going to compete and make your
team better. Look at the Vikings last year, they were awful,
maybe two two seasons ago was awful. And then they
draft Pad Alphine in the third round at center. He
does a good job. They bringing Mike Rivers, Riley Reef.
They were able to fix their office line. Their office

(34:41):
look totally different this year. Um, you know a lot
of credit as Tony Sperano for what he did there,
but you can do it. You You've just gotta You
gotta draft the right guys. It's not about when you
draft him, it's who you drafted. It's great stuff. Hey man, listen,
love the work you're doing the NFL Network. I really
appreciate kind of the insight into the Giant specifically, and uh,
we'll talk to you real. Thanks to see Sean o'harrick Coursaid,

coaster in here in the maul of America's roller coaster.
There's uh all kinds of go carts in a bunch
of stuff. The roller coaster apparently free if you have
the media. I d you know that, No, I did
not know that. I knew that the rides were free
lest out at the media party, but I didn't realize
did you want the roller coaster last night? No? No,
I'm not good with motion sickness stuff, so I played

(36:25):
deal or no deal in the arcade. Alright, good, let's
play a game. This is game time on the Doug
Gottlieb Show. All Right, dan By, you said you played
deal or no deal. What about big deal or little
deal or no deals that we're playing out, Well, that
would be no deal or that would be fake news,

(36:46):
because today we are playing real news fake news. Alright,
real news or fake news, Doug. The Cleveland Browns actually
tried to acquire new Redskins quarterback Alex Smith before he
was dealt to Washington. Real news, They're real and they're spectacular,
Cleveland dot Com saying the Browns made an offer, but

(37:07):
Smith likely chose to go to Washington with his long
term deal, which tends makes me think, Doug that well,
Alex Smith was making the rons yesterday. He knew that
a deal was maybe in the works, that it was
just finding the perfect team to get him that long
term contract. Yeah, that's interesting, right, the things that you
know that you can't say. He was on the Colin
Coward yesterday. Um and uh yeah, that's gotta be a fact.

(37:28):
Kind of what a time to be alive. Um. I
also was told, though, that Cleveland offered a second round
pick as opposed to the third round pick, but didn't
offer a player. And so I actually think can't City
got a better deal and he got a he got
a more stable situation. Although look, Cleveland's got a bunch
of young offensive talent and they have a quarterback uh
a quarterback guru is as head coach, although so too

(37:52):
does um. At least they have the same quarterback guru
head coach in d C. Rule. Those are fake news
that Hall of Fame quarterback Bret Farr willd us the
Eagles team this weekend prior to Super Bowl fifty two.
I'm gonna go real news and they're spectacular. I'm gonna
talk with the Eagles on Saturday morning. Is head coach
Doug Peterson revealed that his former quarterback teammates will be

(38:14):
addressing the Eagles the day before they take on the Patriots.
Uh so he can tell he can say what it
was like to watch Doug Peterson sit as he actually
played now still still, I mean, uh far, it was
awesome and uh do you see far it was linked
to a lawsuit? Was score it? Man? That's how I
was wondering why we couldn't get him on the phone

(38:34):
because the score. It turns out score it's being suited
for seven teen playing five million dollars. Let's hope there
are no selfies on Saturday morning. Real news are fake news.
As Fox will now I'll be the home of Thursday
Night Football for the next five seasons. There will only
be Thursday games from weeks eleven or week six through eleven.
Is that real news are fake news? Fake news? Yeah? No,

(38:58):
it is President Trump is fake news. Okay, we got
that settled. Eighteen games on the schedule. Eleven will be
on Fox going from weeks four through fifteen. Thanksgiving Night, though,
will still be an NBC game because it's part of
the Sunday Night package, and Fox will have their normal
Thursday Thanksgiving game as they always do. I think the
question becomes, now, does does Fox go after Monday Night

(39:21):
Football or do they stick with Thursday Night Football because
there's been some talk that ESPN may not, may not
bid or may not overbid on Monday Night Football with
all the money they have. Do we just do Fox
just come go complete NFL NFL three days a week.
I think they're they may wrestle over the decision, wrestle
over the decision as to what programming they want on

(39:42):
Monday Night. I don't know that'd be a raw wound
if if the nip MR Scholarship winner real news or
fake news Doug Former Colorado Rockies outfielder Larry Walker feels
that steroid assumptions are the reason he isn't an the
Hall of Fame. Fake news, you are fake news. It

(40:03):
is fake news. That's because Walker told the Montreal radio
station that corps Field ends up being his pe d agreed. Agreed,
it's really hard to judge. Remember that not only do
you hit more home runs, but it's such a big
park that your averages up as well. Played tennis seventeen
years with the Rockies was the m v P and
nineties seven and the NL hit three thirteen for his

(40:24):
career three hundred eighty three home runs and over RBIs
and said in the interview he never wants stuck a
needle in his butt. Real news are fake news. To
wrap it up. When asked what type of music he
listened to on his device, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady named
five musical artists, including Justin Timberlake, Bon Jovi, and the
popular Swedish rock duo rock Set. I've never heard anything

(40:47):
that rock set has ever sung must have been love.
But it's all well. I would never tell anybody that.
That's one of those things I would keep to myself.
Is it real news or fake news? That's uh real news?
You are fake news. No. He actually named jay Z,
cold Play, YouTube, Pearl Jam and Kendrick Lamar as the
artist that he listens to. I called bs on a

(41:08):
couple of those on the Doug Gottlieb Show. I do
like Kendrick. I actually like Kendrick Lamar, Humble and DNA
or whatever. I just and maybe he does. Maybe those
that's what he works out too. I do see him
being like bon Jovi, Van Halen, cold Play. All right,

(41:29):
Kenny Rodgers, here's the thing with Justin Timber Like, can
you please not play the song off the new album Filthy.
It's just not that good. It's not as good. It's
not it's fine, it's not as it's not play your
five best most known songs. That's how you got the gig.
Something you can sing, you can dance too. Up coming next.
Everyone was impressed with James Harden's performance last night. Set

Me Next in the Doug Gotlier Boom One up America
Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio Live from Minneapolis, brought
to you by Black Rifle Coffee vetroan known veteran roasted
visit black rifle dot com today. Our thanks to our
litany of sponsors who have provided us the coolest set

(42:12):
on radio row. I mean, it's you can even make
me look cool. Quick story, quick story. I was on
Common Cowherd's radio TV show earlier to day. You may
have heard me, you may have seen me, and I'm
sure I looked Okay, Um, that's only because we avoided disaster.
This is a true story. I'm about to tell you. Okay. Uh.

(42:33):
There's a place where we are is there's multiple food
courts here at the Mall of America, a bunch of
food courts. So the food court that we were on
the third floor, we can see the roller coaster, we
can see a little log ride whatever, and we're right
next to places a final cut. It's like a barber shop.
So I hadn't shaved, and normally if you you don't shave,

(42:53):
you got a scruff, if you got makeup on it,
it can look okay. If you've been on the road
and I got a little bit of redness around my eyes,
just dry eyes. Because when you're in Minneapolis, people ask
all the time it's cold outside. You almost never go outside,
but the second you do hit outside, obviously it's very cold.
Then you hit inside and you're always it's always heat.
So it's very dry, dry heats like Arizona does because

(43:16):
you know it's artificial heat. So um, I was like, man,
I have a have I got forty five minutes between
now and when I have to do Collin Show. It's
a thirty second walk from the set to this place
called Final Cut. I'm gonna go get a straight razor shave.
And have you ever gotten a straight razor shape from somebody?

(43:37):
It's good, it's awesome. Right to put the hot towels,
you know, and they heat up that they get that
razor going. And if you get a good straight razor,
you're not gonna shape for a week. It's amazing. Um.
There is a downside to a straight razor shave if
the guy has no clue what he's doing. So I

(43:58):
walk in, I was like, hey, do you guys share? Yeah,
we we get a ship, and the guy looked like
he didn't. Now look generally when I get my haircut
or when I get a straight razor shape, I prefer
somebody who looks like they've done time. There's actually a
theory in that. I once they have a little tear drop,
I've murdered somebody in jailed thing, I'm okay with that.
That means that although there is a chance I will

(44:18):
die if they choose to perform their duties, they've done
so under pressure, under like that severe pressure. Right. If
you can keep a steady hand with the threat of
of death, of your mortality, well then you can shave
Gotli's face quite easily. Right. So this guy didn't look
like he'd served time, but maybe counted jail. Maybe maybe

(44:39):
counted jail. So uh. It starts with the hot cow
which was not hot, which he asked me several times
it was hot, and I said it's not. And then
he just ran it under warm water and put it
on my face. It's like yeah. Then there wasn't a
lot of them. They did the real shave foam, but
that wasn't real a shape foam. And then I mean
I get done, and there was some tugging going on.

(44:59):
I did feeling him nick me once and I was like, ah,
that probably wasn't the best. I look in the mirror
and I look like Frankenstein, only instead of the scar
being on my head, it was on my face, like
my my cheeks. I had cuts all over. Yes, rhyme music.
I think the best part about this story was I

(45:19):
went to check in on you at the barber shop
because I knew we were cutting it close, and you
were like, man, he got me good. And you're kind
of motioning towards your neck because the largest of the
cuts is down on your neck. At that point, you
hadn't realized that you had cuts on your actual face,
and I'm going, that's the least of your worries. Man,

(45:41):
he hacked up your face. And then you actually started
to look at your face before you had to go
on the camera. So now now I freaked out. My
boy Maddie is here and um and he's like, Yo,
we gotta fix this. So I asked, every lady, do
you have cover up? You have makeup? Now? One of
the great things of Mall America is it has every thing.
So we sprint dead sprint to Nordstrom's, which is I

(46:04):
would say a thousand yards mere dead sprint to North troms.
I go downstairs to the women's section, and there's a
young lady named Taylor who actually puts makeup on my
face and does a phenomenal job to which you can't
You couldn't tell on TV. But once I go back
to the room and I shower and all this makeup
comes off, I'm going to look like somebody tried to

(46:25):
rake my face. Anyway, So there you go. That's my
day so far. I hope you're having a good one.
We're enjoying our stay otherwise in the Twin Cities, big
dinner afterwards, companies picking it up. Should be a good time. Uh.
Music is gonna have some libations, we see, make sure
we stay off tabletops. See if you can handle this tequila?
All right? Um, last night James Harden has a triple double,

(46:49):
but not a normal triple double. There has never been
a triple double before last night in the history of
the NBA in which the guy who had a triple
double at sixty points six zero points, to which I'm
supposed to say it was the greatest performance ever. He's
suddenly now the the leader for the m v P.
Right now, I have told you before, if you've listened

(47:12):
to the show through this network or my my previous stop.
I thought that James Harden probably three years ago should
have won the m v P. In terms of regular
season he has more value because he has the ball
more than anybody else in the league. His usage rate
is through the roof. It's one of the reasons that
and what we're seeing from all these stats are It's

(47:32):
like last night, Um, if you watch college basketball, Trey
Young in Oklahoma survived Baylor, Trey Young had a great night.
Score He had forty four points, nine assists. Okay, and
he only took eighteen shots, Like, how is that possible? Uh,
that's because he got to the free throw line nineteen times.
He had nine assists. He also had six turnovers. Like, dude,

(47:55):
he had the ball in his head because the way
these offenses worked, you have one guy attacking a deep
us with the high ball Street and I so every
time down the court, James Harden. Did you guys see
this that James Harden scored sixty James Harden also had
a triple double. If you add up the points scored
on those assists and the points scored on free throws,

(48:17):
those are not counted. Assists, but he made pass his
guys got fouled. The total is ninety four points off
the hands of James Harden, which is supposed to sound
like a good thing until you dig deeper and realize,
Wait a second, what happened Game six of the NBA
Playoffs last year with James Harden in the Houston Rockets. Right? If,

(48:40):
if James Harden has such a high usage rate and
it is such an explosive score and is so important,
how can we possibly not point out just what a
complete joke. Game six of the playoffs were thirty seven minutes,
eleven shots. He had ten points, seven assists, and six turnovers.
And out out dude, he shut it down. He quit

(49:03):
on his team. And you can't tell me that a
guy that has the capability of sixty and a triple
double can only get up eleven shots, can only have
seven assists. Last night pointed out two things to me.
One that James Harden completely laid down in Game six
of the playoffs last year. He must have been trying

(49:24):
to make his Kobe Bryant sort of point I need
more help, which he got with Chris Paul. And secondly,
they're still overly dependent on James Harden and that that
won't fly. The go one on one that has not
worked yet. And maybe this is the way in which
you're supposed to play in two thousand and eighteen, but

(49:44):
we have not seen it work yet in the NBA playoffs,
not once. Harden still doesn't play defense. You still have
a coach that's not truly committed to defense. And though
you bought in Chris Paul because he quit, he shut
it down. James Harden quit and shut it down last year.
It's obvious that when push comes to stuf, it's still
the James Harden show, and that that just doesn't work.

(50:06):
Didn't work for Jordan, Jordan had to go to the
triangle offense. Didn't work for Kobe and and Shack, they
had to go to the triangle offense. It hasn't worked
for Lebron as he's had to have star players around him.
Didn't work for Mellow, who went is so Joe right?
Best he did was one Conference finals anyway, So I'm

(50:29):
not I guess part of me is diminishing. A great
night look sixty and trouble, doubles, sixty and trouble. He
hit some shots. You're like Damn that dude's got so
much talent, but that's not the type of basketball that's
gonna win you games in the playoffs. And it should
be pointed out that while he was great, Golden State
was awful last night. They got run out of the
gym in Utah. The Cleveland Cavaliers were awful last night

(50:50):
and they lost at home to the Pistons without Blake Griffin,
without Tobias Harris who got traded, without Avia Bradley who
got traded. Like that's a bad loss. So, yes, Houston
want against an inferior Orlando team, and he hit all
his shots, but that does not mean in any way
it propels Houston into being a favorite in the NBA playoffs.

(51:14):
And maybe maybe I'm bitter because I got hacked up
by a dude too. Final cut, I'm not really sure
those it's a bad look, all right. Coming up next,
our boy Travis Kelsey joins the show. Um, I'll ask
him about losing Alex Smith. Where was he, how did
he find out? What was his reaction? And then I
gotta ask him what he we can expect from Pat Mahomes,
who is now the quarterback starting quarterback in the Kansas

(51:36):
City Chiefs. That is next. Uh, guys, flowers die in

He's an all pro, one of the best in the NFL,

(53:23):
and he's also a teammate of Kareem Hunt. Who just
heard from Travis Kelsey from the Chiefs joining me in
the Doug Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio. Uh, dude, you
were one of Alex Smith's favorite targets. Tell me where
you were when the trade went down. I had just
got off the plane to be here in Minnesota, and Uh,
I called my girlfriend and she told me, as I
think Alex just got traded. I immediately hung up the

(53:44):
phone and started hitting social media and from there it's
just kind of been in the roller coaster of trying
to figure out how is it? Is it official? Is
it not official? Is it you know, is he not
my quarterback? Is it is it still in talks? Or
what are we doing here? But um, you know, it's
seems like it's gonna be. It's gonna go through, and
it seems like Mahomes is gonna get his his opportunity,

(54:05):
and right now, it's, um all I all I can
really think of is just, man, I wish I would
have been, you know, that much better for Alex when
I was playing for him, to see him have more
success than than what he did here. Okay, let's let's
kind of like, look, I think the handwriting was on
the wall when they drafted. They traded up to draft Mahomes,
and then Mahomes was better than anyone could have thought
in the preseason. I know, it's just preseason, and then

(54:27):
he was really good in Week seventeen as well. So
it's not like it was a surprise, but the timing
of it was kind of was kind of surprised, Like, man,
that happened fast, Like wait a second, that was that
wasn't There wasn't leak rumors it's just like bam, they
got they got a contract ready, like they've been It's
like they've almost been playing in this for a while.
And it's UH, and they worked, they work through some
things or something. I don't know. It's um. Like I said,

(54:49):
I I'm still shocked by I'm still trying to find out,
you know, figure out words to say about it. But
all I can really say is, you know, thanks to
Alex for everything he's done, not only for my career
and who I am. Um, you know my first five
years that you you couldn't say my name without saying
Alex Smith with it. So the playoffs four of the
five years that he stabilized, he stabilize, you guys. And
this is coming off, you know, when he led the

(55:11):
Niners to the NFC Championship game and then of course
uh was benched after a concussion and never got his
job back with Colin Kaepernick. Um, okay, So I'll give
you what the fan says, and you tell me the reality.
Like the fan says, Alex Smith's fine. Doesn't turn the
ball over, But all he does is find you and
then dump it out to Kareem Hunt. You know, and
occasionally this year he was throwing the ball deep to Tyreeke,

(55:31):
but he's he's safe, he's conservative, and there's a ceiling there,
and so the Chiefs have a chance. They're going for
it with Mahomes who's got a huge arm and can
make all the throws. What's the reality of it. The
reality of it is that Alex Smith just came off
a four thousand yards season um lad the entire NFL
in twenty plus yard catches, in twenty plus yard touchdowns.

(55:52):
So saying that he there's a ceiling there and you
can't really throw the ball downfield, well, he went out
there and did that this year. He's proved everyone wrong.
And I'm mean, that's why he's got the huge contract
uh over there in Washington because of it. But I
think it's um the finishing games. I think that's what
people are really trying to say he doesn't do is

(56:13):
either the fourth quarter, when the game's on the line,
where is he this past year? I felt like he
was at the top of his game the entire season,
even even through the five losses. I felt like he
was still playing very good. We just had the other
a lot of things going around, And this is why
he is a team game. Eleven guys are out there
trying to make one goal happen. You can't just always
throw it on the quarterback. You guys are the best

(56:35):
team in football. And then all said he had injuries
getting to the worst team I mean, And then all
of a sudden, then you were good. And then like
I was about to turn the game off at halftime,
you have on three Like that's a rap. And then
I was like, wait a second, it's the Chiefs. I
gotta keep an eye on this thing. But Tennessee, they're
gonna fire malarkey anyway. Is things over, but they'll happen.
I um, I was getting X rays and m R

(56:56):
I s, I have no idea, what have I still
haven't even watched the second half of that game. Uh,
And all I can hear is here about is guys
were dropping the football, um, and they weren't there for Alex.
And that's what really pisses me off about the entire
him him going somewhere else is the fact that you know,
I don't I don't think it ended here the way
it was supposed to. But at the same time, you

(57:17):
know it's um you have no choice but to move
on you you mentioned getting m R s and and
getting X rays. I mean, like, look this scary stuff, dude,
especially a guy who you still haven't gotten the huge payday, right,
you still haven't gotten to the to the point. I
mean like you're well compensated, but like it's only five
years in. There's still ten more years to go. Really,

(57:38):
what's that like to go through? Uh? Considering how much
you have a future in the NFL, and I know
you're trying to build a future for yourself out of
the NFL. Yeah, I mean it's um, I don't I
try to have to think of the after football math
in terms of like physically and how my body is
going to react to me playing as long as I
do in the NFL. I um, I just try and
go out here, try and live my life the right
way while I while I'm in the NFL. UM trying

(57:59):
to the do dil it the small things, the little
things that make the body go, like your shoulders and
your and your and your joints and stuff like that,
just so you know, when when I do get put
in those awkward situations where I take a huge hit
or I or I or I hit the ground, awkward
it's um, my body and my body is a little
bit more ready for it than what it is. And
it's you can't avoid concussions. That's just the name of

(58:20):
the game. I think the whole head hunting rule is
U is a bit exaggerating, a bit over the top,
and more of a guy where you know, I'd rather
a guy hit me up top and and lay me out,
not necessarily knocked me out of the game, but I
laid me out, and I feel that hit up top
more than I would want somebody coming after my knees
and blown on my knee, you know. So it's um,
you just gotta kind of live in the moment and

(58:41):
and take the game for what it is. I will
tell you, like that sounds that sounds great on radio,
but like you've ever seen some dudes need like come dislocated,
like well, you know, I don't like that either. That's
why I'm saying I'd much rather take a shot. You
got to take a shot. I'd rather take a shot.
But then you see, you know, whether you get cart
off or ground getting card off a week and a
half ago, I've been fortunate. I've never been carded off,

(59:02):
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that. I did
get up looking like I needed to get cards off,
but I did not get carded off. Okay, so you
got to see a sports party right, Yes, the the
a Sports Bowl. Baby. Um, Now do you play? Do
I play? Now? Do you play as you? Or do
you drive your own team? I play as the Kansas
City Chiefs and I throw the ball to one person

(59:22):
on the field, so you just like ridiculous catches. Either
you double me and then I start throwing at the
tyreke or if it's single coverage or zone, I'm gonna
find a way to throw myself the ball. Um. Okay,
So now what's your beef with album Kamara? You guys?
Have you guys have a real beef for a video game?
Be Um? No, definitely not real beef, but definitely beef
without a doubt. I take my video game very seriously

(59:46):
in the competitiveness. Now it's are you Are you the
guy though that you get the game? You get on
the game, like, hold on, I gotta set my audibles
or do you go with? You go with the default audible?
Now nowadays they just got out to where you can
just you you can as soon as you say it's
to your profile. Your audible is already set, so you
know what I mean. You can but definitely need to
change the audibles. This is this is the great thing.

(01:00:07):
I have an eight year old son, and right now
he thinks I'm the greatest Madden player ever, right because
we play on the same team, and he'll he'll, I'll
let him go. Who do you play with? Uh? We
play with the Giants lot because he's a Beckham guy.
Beckham catches everything in the game everything. Or we play
with the Chargers because we live in Orange County and
and a bunch of the Chargers live around us. It's

(01:00:28):
a life that's a rough life. Listen, you you went
on a reality show and dated thirty women, So don't
tell me about rough life. All right, you're right right
right like you gotta get pretty good. You have diamond
earrings as big as the hubcaps in my car right now.
Of course, he is Travis Kelsey, good enough to join
us for me a sports he's got himself a new quarterback,
and Uh, life is generally generally good. Although I'm sure

(01:00:50):
you wish you were playing this weekend. Having you here
this weekend's great for uh, not just for the Chiefs,
but the folks the A you know it came waite
man and everybody catch the the A. Sports both to
be away first out here will be I mean, Alvin
Camaro will be going head to head. Car shopping gave
me confusing in terms with terms like dealer price, list price,
invoice price. True Car shows what other people paid for

(01:01:11):
the car you want, so you can recognize a good
price when you're ready to buy a new or used car.
Visit True Car, enjoy more confident car buying experience, bringing
Dan buy or find out what else is going on
in the world of sports. Dan fuld denim for Travis
Kelseys with that, maybe I'll ask for it on my
next birthday or your next birthday, which is like fifty
weeks away. But there is a birthday to celebrate today.

(01:01:34):
That is one of Eagles head coach Doug Peter sand
who turned the Big five. Oh, you know, my wife
is here and my family will be in here later
in the week. And to be able to celebrate this
with with them, and you know, with the team and
and uh to be in this game obviously is an honor.
If somehow we can pull out a victory, that would
be the icing on the cake as they say, Yeah,

(01:01:55):
I wonder what his wish is going to be when
he blows out the candles tonight. We just can't tell
anybody we're is because then it won't come true. But
he goes back to practicing today. Same thing with the
New England Patriots. Rob Dronkowski is still waiting on him
to be cleared from concussion protocol, but he has been
practicing with the Patriots leading up to this week. It's
funny about the wish telling people what you wish for, right, Like,

(01:02:16):
like they are the most the most superstitious people on earth,
I understand, but there's plenty people that aren't superstitious at all.
And then they're like, yeah, but I can't tell you
what I wish for because then it won't come true.
Like all right, you don't believe in any other superstition,
but you believe in that one. I I have made
wishes that don't reach for the stars just because I
wanted them to come true, like I wanted it to

(01:02:36):
be realistic. That's how I believe in superstitions. Like I
can't say, like, oh gosh, I want to I want
a brand new car tomorrow that's not gonna come true.
But if you lower your expectations and make the wish,
then maybe it'll come true. Um, Rams and Chiefs fans
got their wish. They are gonna be playing in Mexico City.
One of the tidbits passed along today by NFL Commissioner

(01:02:58):
Roger Goodell is that will be the Mexico Any game
next season. The date of the week that it's going
to be played not known yet. We know it won't
be Thursday Night Football, but when you watch it next year,
it's gonna be on Fox, and it's gonna be there
the year after that. The year after that, a five
year deal for the television network to carry Thursday night football.
Six hundred million dollars reportedly the deal so Fox will

(01:03:18):
air eleven of the eighteen Thursday Night games coming up
in alright, So basically what this means is any conversation
about Thursday Night Football going away has in fact gone
away today because it's not like the one year deal.
You're like, all right, we'll revisit it next year. They're
not revisiting it. They already have. They're making five hundred,
six hundred million dollars a year. They're not revisiting something right,

(01:03:40):
like you're making that much money, like we'll figure it out. Well,
it's not going away. We may take it with it,
but for eleven weeks, we are gonna have Thursday night football.
Come hello, high Water Arizona Sports saying that Adrian Peterson
likely to be released by the Arizona Cardinals and in
the NBA, no Kyrie Irving tonight for the Celtics out
against the New York Knicks because of a quad injury,
and Basketball Insider says, you need in the thigh by

(01:04:03):
the those nasty knee and the thigh. But Charlie Horse maybe.
The Basketball Insiders report that the Milwaukee Bucks could be
looking at acquiring a center that's not named DeAndre Jordan.
There's some reports that that could be interested in Heat
center Hassan Whiteside. What the report said if a deal
was done, Jabari Parker would like likely have to be
included in the deal. He'll make a season debut coming
up on Friday. Well, what's also interesting is there's a

(01:04:25):
report that the h l A Clippers try to trade
Blake Griffin to the thunder before ultimately moving him to
the d Trip Pistons. Blake Griffin from Oklahoma City, played
at Oklahoma and they tried to trade him for Paul
George expiring contract from l A and uh, kind of
interesting that the Thunder did not. The Thunder are going

(01:04:47):
all in on this year and they think they can
keep Paul George. I've been told he ain't staying, so
this could be that could be one of those potential
trades to which like at the time, you're like, oh,
that's part of the Thunder, and now five years later
like that was the dumber thing they never could have done,
because they would have had Blake Griffin, hometown kid, under
contract along with Russell Westbrook, who he is friendly with.

(01:05:08):
He is friendly with. You know what I think, and
I'm gonna say first time on national radio, I think
the Clippers should change their name to the I don't know,
but there is such a stigma and and this isn't
being like a joker a hot take truly when we
brought up when we talked about the Lebron James report out,
he's not going to consider the Clippers. The Clippers are

(01:05:30):
a new organization under Steve ballmer than they obviously were
under Donald Sterling. But we always say they are still
the Clippers. Why not just rebrand the whole thing, get
a new name, get a new just make everything different.
Hector was talk they wanted their own new arena. Just
start over and be another new team in the in
the l A market that is not the Clippers. I

(01:05:52):
actually think the Clippers to be successful, just get rid
of the name, go to a new name. I like that.
I like that. Um, it's been done before, it has
been done. You know, it's been done in business autists.
It happens in business a ton uh you know like
uh for us, Google was originally called BackRub. This is

(01:06:15):
a true story. Google was backrupb. Best Buy was originally
the sound of music. Really. Yes, yes, BlackBerry was research
in motion. Remember that's actually when blackberries were big. Brad's
Drink became Pepsi. Buffalo Wild Wings was the Star Beings.
Starbucks used to be Starbucks Tea and Spice. Uh uh

(01:06:38):
coffee company and they just changed it to uh it
used to be Starbucks Coffee, Tea and Spices. Blue Ribbon
Sports became Nike. Drive Yourself, that's drive your you are self.
That became Hurts. Auction Web became eBay. Like this has
happened before in like Shakespeare said, what's in her name?

(01:06:59):
A lot in a name. A lot of equity is
within a name, and there's negative equity with the name.
I think there is so much in that Clippers name
that it would be beneficial for that organization to go
with a different route. I think it would be. A
guy named Jerry Young originally co founded with David filo

(01:07:20):
Um a company called Jerry's Guide to the World Web
that became Yahoo right, like, like, will you go Jerry's guy.
That's that's awesome. Yeah, email me at Dan Buyer at
Jerry's Guide to the Worldwide Web dot com was originally
Stag Party. That was originally called Stag Party. This is

(01:07:41):
these are all true. That's what Ryan's apartment was called
the College. Let's find out what the Fox said. I
got to tell you and now say all right earlier
today on the Doug Gotlin Show here on Fox Sports
right every day at this time we are a little
bit it are usually we we bring you something heard

(01:08:02):
previously Skip Bayless Shannon Sharp on a show called Undisputed.
It's also TV show FS one. You can hear it
on Serious and Serious x M Channel eighty three. Discussing
the Cavalier struggles and Kevin Love's hand and drew it.
I gotta tell you, if they don't make a deal
for a significant addition, which I do not think they're
going to do because it would require giving up that

(01:08:23):
Brooklyn pick, this team is capable of losing in the
first round, but it's definitely capable of not getting out
of the East. Right here, right now, Boston is better
than Cleveland as they just are Boston if they played
if they just said that, if Boston played them, if
Boston played them right now, Boston would probably sweep the Celtics,
especially without Kevin, especially without Kevin low now, they wouldn't,

(01:08:51):
like you know, I mean, let history be your guide.
I get it. The Celtics are different with Kyrie Irving.
The Celtics had the best record in the Eastern Conference
last year. They were down two games and none to
the Chicago Bulls before the Gen Rondo got hurt and
missed the rest of the series. Again, I think that
Brad Stevens does a great job. I think the Celtics
are ultimately going to be in the future the best

(01:09:12):
team in the Eastern Conference, and they may well this
year because it's there's such dysfunction with the Calves. They
may well beat the Calves if they faced them in
a best of seven series, but they're not sweeping the Calves. Right.
Has Lebron James ever been swept? I don't think he
actually has ever has been swept before the Spurs swept him.

(01:09:32):
I don't think the Spurs swept them. Did they his
first year, first time the NBA finals, the first time
the NBA Finals, they got swept. So one time he's
been the NBA fifteen years, he's been swept one time,
and we're calling our shot as of right now. Okay, yeah,
I'm gonna I'm gonna disagree there quite strongly. Um that said, Like,

(01:09:56):
what I think is is lost in the Kevin Love
injury is there's a thought that the Calves are gonna
go out and make one last move. DeAndre Jordan's maybe
a San White side, some sort of big guy to
help them with rain protection if they don't think Tristan Thompson,
who is now starting at center, is good enough. The
problem is that with Kevin Love out and he has
been out previously, it's been hurt. Actually both of the

(01:10:18):
previous two years, remember two years ago and three years ago.
Excuse me got hurt in the playoffs last year? Who
was hurt around this time as well? Um and Kevin Love. Actually,
Kevin Love has been hurt a bunch here when he's
with Minnesota. He heard a thumb, he broke a thumb
as well in his last year there. He's actually had
some some injuries that have that have followed him. But

(01:10:38):
the issue becomes that let's say they get him back
for the last ten games of the regular season, well,
that may be enough to get him in playoff shape.
Are close to playoffs shape. He's still kind of trying
to figure out to play with Isaiah Thomas, and maybe
they move on from Isaiah Thomas and trade for a
big guy, but that you know, or trade for another
guard that's gonna give you ten games of playing together
before you get to the playoffs. That that that is

(01:11:01):
doomed to fail. A team that's parts don't fit together,
a team that has massive holes in the defensive side,
the team that is a bunch of age on the
defensive side, and you're not gonna have any sort of cohesiveness,
not just for having not played together more than a year,
but not having Kevin loved to play with whatever group
you're going with until last ten games the regular season.

(01:11:22):
I do think we're starting to we need to start
to rethink the idea that you automatically in pen put
the Calves in the Eastern Conference finals. I don't think
they get swept, but I do think it is at
least possible. Is at least possible that they're beaten before
they get to the Eastern Conference Eastern Conference, I mean,
do they get to the NBA Finals? What say? Uh?

(01:11:47):
What if you could get up to thousand dollars in
a little as forty eight hours with tax Layer, you
can introducing refund now only from tax Layer, defile your
taxes goetta to a thousand dollars in this little forty

Cowboys have to do next season to get back in
the playoffs? I'll last. Three time Super Bowl champion and

(01:12:08):
Hall of Famer Michael Irvin he joins me. Next, online
shopping can be confusing, well not anymore. With true Price
from True Car Now, you can know the exact price
you'll pay for your next car. So visit true Car
and enjoy more confident car by the experience. Some guys

(01:12:34):
are you have to say their name and then say
the nickname. Some guys just say the playmaker and they're like, okay,
you get mine, So cool enough. Hall of Famer joining
us uh here on set and another super Bowl, another
Patriots super Bowl. But it really is, like it's remarkable.
Obviously we know what befel you and cause your career

(01:12:54):
to end too soon. Same thing happened with Troy Aikman um,
but like you kind of marvel at the fact that
Brady four years old and stiff doing doing it and
doing it at a level that's just incredible and and
and backing this game again. I mean, it is mind
blowing when you remember, and I love now how how

(01:13:15):
we are at the network NFL network because we're showing
all of Tom Brady's combine pictures and when he ran
a forty and you're looking at this man run on
forty yard dash and you say, no way is he
going to play in the NFL. Not only plays, he's
about to win if he wins his six rings. It's

(01:13:37):
just incredible. When you talk distance travel for what you
saw to what he's done. It's incredible and he still
looks great. Talk at Hall of Fame with you. There's
there's there's t O. But now there's Randy Moss as well.
And I know that a lot of times the way
wide receivers always seem to have to wait longer than
they should. Why do they do that to us? But
I don't know. It's your sport, your the health. You
tell me, I don't. I don't know. If a quarterback

(01:14:01):
sneeze right, he can get in the Hall of Fame,
if he just sneezed correctly, he can get in. But
when it comes to a wide receiver, and and and
we we are the ones that has that. We have
to snatch the ball from between heaven and earth land
on one foot while somebody's trying to take your head
off and still try to get to a touchdown. And
and they always do it. They did it with our

(01:14:22):
Muck he was a leader and categories with rings. They
made him wait. And now they're doing it to t O,
which I think is that they did it to me.
Carter as well. Carter Michael Irvin from the NFL Network.
Of course, Hall of Famer. You can fall on Twitter
at Michael Irvin. Okay, so if you're choosing, forget about
time weighted time waiting Moss or t O who should

(01:14:46):
go in first, because right there they're both going in. Now,
I tell you what I believe. I believe we're in Minnesota,
and those guys like to make a splash. So there's
no way Randy Moss is not getting in in Minnesota.
You see what I mean. That's the superre both here
to announce Randy Most in. That will that will light
up the whole city knowing that they got the guy in.

(01:15:07):
So I believe Randy Most is going in, but I
believe t O should be in also, t O should
be in. And hope for me they'll get him both
the end this year because I know that would be
O t O. If Random Most goes in and he's
still is not easy, Okay, let's continue to the wide
receiver talk with one of the great great wide receivers
in modern football era. Would be hard. Not he has

(01:15:31):
not taking it well, it is it has been. I mean,
he's still like he you know, he just lashes out
here like yo, look I'm not on the committee, Okay,
I'm not in. Really, don't lash out at me. I
saw him an event charity event this summer, and like
you asked him about it and he goes, he's it's
like all of a sudden he loses his mind for
a second and he realized he's not get in the
Hall of Fame. Tell him, man, listen. I had to

(01:15:52):
tell him. Man. We were doing this commercial together and
I was like, t o listen, man, I promise, man,
you're going to be there. And I said, you just
gotta understand what you're fighting for now. It's not you
fighting against the voters. Is you fighting for that bust
in that name in the hall and your kids, your
great great great great great grand we'll walk that hall.

(01:16:12):
And said, that's my great great great granddad and what's
in him? He's in me? And it inspised them. I say,
you gotta think on that turn. Let me ask you
about Dez Bryant. Um. Look, you're still synonymous obviously the Cowboys.
How do you what do you do if you're gonna
advise Jerry, you're gonna gonna sit down and you're gonna
get in a restaurant in the Jerry on one side,
Dez and the other and des probably pay a little

(01:16:33):
bit too much money, and Jerry like to pay him less.
But your cowboy, on the other hand, Dez doesn't appear
to be the guy, or at least this year, he
didn't appear to be the guy that he had been
in the past. How do you hand how do you
mediate that conversation? Well, I I think this year what
the Cowboys should do and and I tell you, and
I talked to Jerry about it. I I would tell
him that was a tough year all around last year,

(01:16:56):
you know. And there's one thing that people always talk about.
We need to make a decision on de is we
need to do this. You're talking about getting rid of
one person, but who are you bringing in? Number one
receivers are uneasily found. Our teams will have two or
three on each team. Is he still a number one

(01:17:17):
wide re series? Oh my god, Mands Briant still has
the physical skill shed and still is a number one
wide receiver. Now, this year was a different year. I
just thought it was a different year and a tough
year for him. But there's no doubt in my mind
he still has number one wide receiver capabilities and ability.
When Romo called some Cowboy games, he continued to kind
of reiterate like, hey, you gotta throw it up to him,

(01:17:38):
you gotta go let him make a play. And it
seemed like Doc wasn't necessarily comfortable with the way in
which Romo tried to get devis going how much how
much of the blame falls on the hands of the
second year quarterback and Dock Well, there there's some I
don't want to call it blame, but there's certainly some
growth there, you know. And when Tony and I would
talk about that, you know Tony would know. Okay, you

(01:18:00):
you learned X and os of a game, you learn
how to read defenses. Okay. But now now the next
level of quarterbacking, in which I'm sure Doc will get
too soon, is you start seeing things like like, can
Roger see these things where he's not even letting you
get on it off the field, but he's getting you
off sides? Are you start seeing things like what Tony

(01:18:21):
Romo was talking about, I know more than next is
And oh, I know, I know the emotions of this team.
So sometimes I'm just going off reading throwing the disk,
so positive attitude to go through my team. Here, here's
here's how I liked it. The basketball analogy for me,
I play with the guy, dosn't Mason played ten years
in the NBA right when I was in college. And
if you got him a dunk early in the game,

(01:18:42):
his defense is better. Okay. So he's in that kind
of the secret withall and something and then I'll sudden
a block for you is attitude is better. He's gonna
keep asking for the ball and that's okay, and that's okay,
and his great the attitude becomes very effects on on
the whole football team because now he's lifting everybody up

(01:19:05):
North Turner. I I went in North Turner one time.
I say, North were you know, we were getting ready
for a game. And I was about to tell him
I want to get involved early. And I said, you know,
if he said, don't even try it, Michael, he said,
I already know. Don't even say it. Don't even say
I'm gonna get you involved. Or I said, okay, long
as it's on your mind, and I walked off. You know.
But but a lot of receivers are like that, and

(01:19:26):
and and they definitely have to get him involved earlier. Now,
let me tell you something too. He knows that cameras
on him and and they know it. And every time
he's not getting an opportunity to make a play, everybody's
talking about the same things you're talking about, and obviously
it gets to him and you see some of it
may explode on the sideline because he wants to prove
that he's still gonna play. But he needs those he

(01:19:48):
needs those opportunities there, and I think he should get
him this. Let me ask you about the story of
the day. The Washington Redskins Anna and they go and
they get Alex Smith. Yeah, kind of feels sort of
like the same guy, right, like safe quarterback who you know,
the middle of the pack. But they like something happened
there with them and Cousins. They could never figure out
the long term solution. Are the Redskins better today and

(01:20:11):
they were yesterday? Are they worse than the same? I
would say they're better. I thought Redskins this. First of all,
we keep talking. You wouldn't have to pay Kirk Cousin.
He wanted to be the highest paid quarterback in the
National Football League. That that's kind of money he's looking for.
Right there, we can all agree. So you got you
got Alex Smith for a better deal. From that perspective,

(01:20:33):
you know and and and and Kirk Cousins. I'll let
Aaron Rodgers. I'll pay him the highest pain. You know why,
because even if I gotta sell parts stuff around him,
Aaron Rodgers going to raise that up anyway. Russell Russell Wilson,
he raised his stuff up. I can't give it to Kurt.
I can't give it the Curt. I need players to
raise Kurt up because he's not going to be raising

(01:20:54):
those players up. So I understand that. So you spend
a little less money on Alex Smith, and then you
go and get some players that can help raise Alex. Yeah.
Danna Jeremiah, who works for you guys the NFL network,
He says that you're either a truck or a trailer, right.
The truck you pull, let you pull everything along. You're
the trailer you just kind of along for the ride.
And you're describing Kirk Cousins as more of a trailer, right, Like,

(01:21:22):
maybe a little bit more than a trailer, you know
what I mean, he's getting some things to do. Maybe
he's the thing that connect your truck in the tree.
What is it? What is that called the little ball
on the back of the trailer hits the trailer. But
but I think that, yeah, that's a hard thing to
turn around. And I have to get Kirk Cousins all
that money and think about this every year he's never

(01:21:44):
had more than ten wins in a season. So they're saying,
you're a middle of the pack quarterback. You bring us
in middle of a pack records, Take some middle of
the money, take the middle of pack winning. It's just business,
Yes it is. By the way, you can check out
Michael NFL Networks doing a great thing. It's called NFL
Players Only. It's tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, eight o'clock Eastern
time for Minneapolis, So only former players, none of the

(01:22:06):
none of the talking, and none of the host the
traffic copp and just players on the podcast. Right. Yeah.
And it's fun like that too, because you get guys
more loose, you know what I mean. More they feel like, uh,
they can share more stories, to tell more and everything.
So it's real fun when we can do that. Not
that we don't enjoy having my guy Reachies and all
of those guys around too. They're good guys. But but

(01:22:27):
it's something else when this players only the great Michael Irvan,
the playmaker, the Hall of Famer. Check them out in
the NFL network all weekend long. Of course, their pregame
coverage starts at nine am Super Bowl Sunday. You're not
a yeah, yeah, we'll be on nine of you know,
do whatever you gotta do. Wake up and watch us.
Go to sleep, come back up, wake back up. Still
we'll be on. Go run your earrands, take away, go

(01:22:48):
go get two kids, pick them up, take him to
the park, come back home. We'll still turn your TV
back on us. Thanks so much, having appreciate all right, Michael,
The Redskins didn't hit home run, as you heard from Mike,
but they did hit what you would call a solid
double double off the wall. And even though baseball has

(01:23:08):
become home run or strike out, sometimes in football, just
like in baseball, it's about getting runner on base, putting
yourself in a position to score that run. Do we
like or dislike what the Redskins did last night? And
who gets traded tonight? That's up coming next live from Minneapolis.
This is the Doug Gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. What

(01:23:35):
Up But so Doug Gotta leave Show? Fox Sports Radio
Live from Minneapolis, Brought to you by a Black Rifle
Coffee veteran, known veteran roasted. Visit Black Rifle Coffee dot
com today. So look the news to the day, which
continues to reverberate here on Radio Row is Alex Smith
is now the quarterback of the Washington Redskins. You're like,

(01:23:57):
what like yeah, and uh, Kirk Cousins is still under contract.
Ironically enough, Alex Smith was on with Colin Coward yesterday
and Kirk Cousins was on with us UM and I
think they both knew and they're really good, They're really
good actors. But at times it felt like Kirk came

(01:24:17):
out of character just a little bit as the very
happy to be Washington Redskin quarterback take us When I
asked him about some of the critique that was thrown
his way by Jay Gruden after their exit meetings. Jay
Groom was asked, hey, uh, did did uh? It was it?
Did Kirk Cousins have a good season in spite of

(01:24:37):
the seven nine record? Uh? And Gruden said, you know,
seven nine record is kind of what it is the
quarterbacks reflection of that. Here was Kirk Cousins response to
Jake Gruden's statement, people aren't tired of their opinions and
I've always tried to do my best to ignore the
noise and not not let it get to me. Certainly
take coaching and you know, make sure you use it
to become a better player, not take it personally. But
I understand what he's saying. But the implication is it,

(01:25:00):
you know, seven and nine and the quarterback player the
exact same thing. And I think it's slightly more complicated
than that in terms of what takes that to have
a record. Even if we had gone thirteen and three,
it's not all my responsibility to go thirty and three,
where it's it's all Kirk. You know, that wouldn't have
happened either. Would that wouldn't have happened either, Um, But
there was a certain defensiveness to it, a certain defiance

(01:25:21):
to it, as certain of when he said noise. When
your head coach gives you a critique, that that's generally
not considered noise. But Cousins did consider it noise, and
maybe now we see why. I'm sure it ticked him off.
My point would would be and I think, like what
I think Jake Gruen said is perfectly reasonable. But have

(01:25:41):
you ever heard a coach who's recruiting a free agent
to stay. Say, you know that wasn't that good, but
you're seven nine. He is seven and nine. I've never
heard that before. But look now, what's done is done.
And if you're asking yourself why did it had done, now,
it's because Alex Smith was apparently potentially headed to the

(01:26:05):
Cleveland Browns. Browns offered a second, and then the Redskins like,
will give you a third and a former third who's
a slot cornered young guy under club control for a
couple more years, cornerback. And that's what got the deal done.
Anything is that it's a trade. And people I was like,
who won the trade? Well, I mean, I guess the

(01:26:29):
Redskins won the trade, didn't they They got the best
player in the trade. And if you want to say
that seventy million dollars guarantees a lot of money, you're right,
but for a starting quarterback in the NFL, you'd be wrong.
That's actually mid level two below the mart mid level
market value. So I actually think what the Redskins did

(01:26:49):
was sensible in an unread skinned sort of way, like
remember what has failed the Redskins in the past, not
Kirk Cousins. Kirk Cousins with the fourth round pick. But
Kirk Cousins thing didn't even make sense when it was done.
They traded up, They moved Heaven and Earth to get
r G three, and then they built the offense around
and RG three was hurt. Remember he came back too soon,

(01:27:10):
didn't come off the field in the playoffs against the
Seahawks when everybody saw him limping around out there. But
it actually didn't make sense to draft a fourth round
pick quarterback when you moved Heaven and Earth and trade
away future picks and current picks to get a first
round draft pick Corps number two. Overall, the Redskins have
been the team that overspends in free agency and misses

(01:27:31):
in the NFL draft. Right, Jason Campbell in the draft
swinging a miss. He Schuler in the draft swinging a miss.
R G three in the draft, and then in free agency,
Albert Haynesworth free agency swinging a miss. They did trade

(01:27:53):
for Donna McNab swinging a miss. So now what she
did was he didn't swing for the fences. This is
the baseball analogy. Is everybody's hitting home runs in baseball. Right,
baseball has become home run strikeouter walk thirty three cent
of that was ittent of the time. It's crazy. Home run,

(01:28:16):
strikeoutter walk that's gose are crazy numbers higher than it's
ever been. But you know what, not every guy can stop.
Every guy is John Carlos Stanton. And there's still guys
that can play in baseball that just punching Judy get
on base. There's still room for those guys. They're still
room in bullpens, in or in In bullpens, everybody comes

(01:28:36):
out throwing a hundred plus, but you know what, it's
still gonna locate. There's still room for a guy that
comes in throws mid eighties to low nineties, that throws
a bunch of different pitches, can hit corners, can get
you to hit groundballs. That still has value in the NFL. Hey, look, man,
if I could get Aaron Rodgers, I do it. But

(01:28:59):
what are your choices if you're the Redskins. This is
not a This is what I tell every makeup woman
who has ever put makeup on me. When I say
how do I look? They're like great, I'm like look,
I'm I apologize. I did not give you a blank canvas. Right.
I have a big nose, I have eyes that have
bags underneath my eyes. Plus sometimes I'm allerted to some
kind of makeup, like I don't sleep that much. I'm

(01:29:20):
not that good looking a fellow, but they make me
look relatively decent on TV. That's the Washington Redskins. They
don't have a running game, offensive lines okay, that's some
injuries there, defense is so so, but they're they're good
enough to not get a good draft pick right They're
not drafting the top five, top ten, so they'd have
to move heaven and earth to trade up for a
quarterback who might be really good in two or three years.

(01:29:46):
And on the other hand, like what's available in the
free agent market, Case Keenum would rather have Alex Smith
or Case Keenum. Alex Smith would rather have Alex Smith
or Kirk Cousins, especially considering even though they had Kirk
Cousins they couldn't seem to make work, and Cousins he
wasn't playing for seventy million guaranteed, he wasn't. He wanted
a much bigger contract. So look, I'm not a Redskin fan.

(01:30:10):
I don't love Dan Snyder. I don't love a lot
of the moves they made in the past. This one
actually makes a lot of sense. I can't believe they
gave up Fuller, who's a good cornerback and a third
round pick. You gotta give up something, and they kept
their first round pick, and they kept their second round pick.
No one has ever gone, you know what, just take

(01:30:32):
him off our hands for free, especially when Cleveland's offering
a second round pick. You know, it's not a blank campus.
That's not the way in which things work. Um. And
then you got Kirk Cousins, which look, the standing rumor
is he's going to the Broncos. And now look if

(01:30:53):
your Cousins Cousins, because he's on the open market, is
going to be overcome, over up and say that right,
he's gonna be He's finally gonna get paid. But Cousins
obviously ends up uh not being able to go to
San Francisco, where he wanted to play for Kyle Shanahan.
So instead it's going to be the Jets or the
Broncos or maybe Minnesota where he can play in the Dome.

(01:31:22):
And I think part of the problem with Cousins is
he always carried the chip on his shoulder like, man,
I'm a fourth round pick and everybody's treating me like
a fourth round pick, whereas the Redskins are he's a
fourth round pick, and we're treating you like a fourth
round pick. The key in dating, by my estimation, to
find your dream girl is too you can't data girl.

(01:31:48):
It's hard, really hard data woman who's a ten and
know she's a ten. That's a hard one. On the
other hand, it's gotta be hard to date fives. I
know fives find other five and they make they make
usually really cute babies. That's actually usually what happens. What
you want is a woman who's an eight or a

(01:32:08):
nine that thinks she's a six or a seven. And
I think guys are much the same way, right Like
when you're just so good looking and you've been told
you're so good looking, people have bowed down to you.
It's like the young athletes syndrome. You don't have to
deal with the reality, you don't have to come up
with the personality or whatever. Kirk Cousins is a seven

(01:32:30):
or a six who thinks he's an eight or a nine,
And the Washington Redskins, no, they had a six or seven,
appreciate that of a six or seven and didn't want
to treat him like he was nat or nine. They
just didn't. And let's be honest. With Kirk Cousins and
with Alex Smith. Here's where they're the same guy. When

(01:32:51):
you tell me, hey, you know Alex Smith, he doesn't
turn the football over when you start with he doesn't
turn the football over. That's like when a guy is
trying to set jump on a blind date, like what
she looked like. She's got a great personality, She's very funny. Look,
guys are the same thing when a woman is trying
to set up another woman on a on a blind date, Like,
what's he like? He's got a great job, right, he

(01:33:14):
is very stable, he's super nice. He's a sweet guy. Yeah,
sweet guy. I'm actually a sweet guy. That's that's that's
how I fit into this conversation. Eight seven seven nine
nine one foxes the phone number Age seven. Fox woke
up with Alvin Kamara up coming next, the first year

(01:35:23):
being awesome. Doug Ot Leave Show, Fox Sports Radio. Whether
you go, uh, it's it's kind of like Alvin Kamara, right,
Like no matter if you want to say running back,
if you want to say kind of slash position, joker position.
He's wide receiver, he's a little bit everything. He's a
pro bowler, is one of the top running backs in
the NFL, and he's only a rookie. It's Alvin Kamara

(01:35:45):
of the New Orleans Saints joining us in the doug
Otlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, look, I'm
I'm watching you walk around Radio row and considering your
journey two different SEC schools, junior college in the middle,
drafted in the third round, and now you getting all
this respect, all this love, for your performance all season
on the football field. What what's it been like for you?
I mean, just it's it's amazing, you know, just being

(01:36:08):
able to have that success and and getting the respect
you know. I mean a lot of a lot of
people tell me, like, you know you've been this is
what you deserve. But you know you gotta keep a humble, humblehead.
How do you do that? I mean, I just remember
everything I've been through, you know, everything that I went
through to get here, And it's like without without those things,
you know, I wouldn't be where I'm at without my
my mom staying in my ear. I wouldn't be where

(01:36:29):
I'm at without my uncle, my Si. You know. So
it's like like your mom Okay, so um, like Alabama,
there's just too many dudes there. Um, obviously we know
you were you know you like when you were, you
got you got, butch jones at not getting the opportunity.
What was your mom telling you the whole time? Man?
So Bama? At first she didn't want me to leave Bama.
But you know I'm hard hitted left. I mean it

(01:36:51):
works like like like what like you're on the phone
with her, she come up and see you on the
phone and she's like, you know, you just stay, you
know you need to stay, like it's HB all right, yeah,
just be patient. And it wasn't really that much of
a thing where, you know, it was too many guys,
of course, I mean, it's not that it's not a
lot of footballs to go around that many guys, especially
at the same position, but it was like, you know,
got her early, and it was just like one of

(01:37:11):
those things where I just didn't feel good there anymore,
Like I didn't feel comfortable. And you know, I mean, plus,
you're not really I don't want to speak out of turn,
but you're not really their style of back, right, Like,
like what what Sean Payton is able to do with
you is he can use you anywhere, right, your your
Swiss army knife, right, and so you can line you
up as a running back or you can split you
out wide. Now you got you got a linebacker on you. Okay,

(01:37:33):
we know where we're going, right, But that's not how
they that's not how they roll at Bama. Um even
when you were there, when you guys start running some
spread stuff, you still kind of have traditional running backs.
Was that part of what didn't work there. I mean,
I wasn't really worried about that. I mean, I feel
like I can I can do as as long as
I get to touches, I can do you know whatever
any other running back can do them. But you know,
it just didn't. I just felt like, you know, it

(01:37:54):
was my time was up there. So I made the transition,
all right. So so you go to the Saints and
you were drafted. What they tell you, be ready period,
you know, be ready. You know, I kind of knew
what my role was coming in, kind of playing that
joker position like Reggie and yeah, so you know I
didn't I didn't know it was gonna take off like that,
but you know, I was just I came in and

(01:38:14):
I was like, all right, let me just keep an
open mind and attack everything that that's put on my play.
That's really amazing that you mentioned Darren, Darren Sprouls, Reggie
being Reggie Bush and they found a way to isolate
you and find mismatches for you. So it's and look,
is it your talent, yeah, is it your drive? Yeah?
But it's also Sean Payton and Drew Brees understanding how
to find mismatches for sir. It's definitely that fit, you know,

(01:38:37):
and I give a lot of credit to to Drew
and coach Payton, uh for just you know, putting me
in position to be able to be successful. You know,
those guys are like they're so cerebral, like you know,
it raises the the like your your mental just being
around them, like just being able to get in those
mismatches and understand the game more like, I mean, you

(01:38:57):
gotta be in tune? Does it? It's still hurt? I
mean we're only a couple weeks from it. Everyone felt
like it was over. You and I talked you thought
it was over? Still hurt? Yeah, I mean it does,
you know, because I feel like we can still be playing.
I feel like we should be playing in this game.
But you know, it just creates more more drying for
next year. People have have asked about your relationship with
Mark Ingram, and they I think a lot of us

(01:39:17):
are like, hey, you guys talking about touches. You guys
are fighting over the same touches. How could you possibly
be boys? But everywhere I've read everything I've heard, you
guys are super tight. Is that is that accurate? Yeah,
it's it's accurate. We're not fighting over too. If if Mark,
if I if we're honest with each other, so you know,
I know Mark, Mark's play might be that inside his
own play. So I'm like, shoot, that's what you do.

(01:39:39):
You do it better than me. So I want to
get like we we we want to be in the
best position to win and best position to be productive
and efficient in that play. He knows, like, all right, bro,
you you run the slant good like you do that,
Like you know what I'm saying. So it's like it's
one of those things where we understand each other, we
want each other to do well. So it's one of
those things where I don't want to put him in
this position to where he won't be able to be

(01:40:00):
percent effective. And it's vice versa. There's this there's this
uh perfect number for Drew Brees right, So Drew has
been uh handsomely compensated the past couple of years. Now
he's a free agent. He's like, look, I want to
stay in Nola, but he ain't gonna play for free.
On the other hand, you can't all the money, even
the money he right rightfully deserved, because everybody you gotta

(01:40:20):
you gotta put a whole team around you. Guys, how
how much how engaged are you and Withdrew as far
as where he is with coming back inside of wet,
we don't even we don't even talk about that. You know,
we're together the whole probo week and it's like we're
just having fun, enjoying, like being with the fam. You know,
his kids running around playing like Drew Drew not. You know,
he's not worried about that, Like he said, he wants
to be in Nola. Um. You know, I think with

(01:40:43):
our front office, they'll figure it out. Um. And I
feel like I feel like Drew gonna be our quarterback
next year. I don't really think, you know, I don't
really deal with you. You've been through one full season.
Everybody likes to add something to their game. But the
beauty to you is you do you seemingly do almost
everything well? Is there something you want to add? Is
there a next step that you want to take? I

(01:41:03):
think I just I want to. I want to I
want to sharping up my footwork, you know. I mean,
you know, you see all those footwork drills on like
Twitter and Instagram, Like I want to sharp in my
footwork up in in my hands, you know, just those awkward,
awkward positions, catches, and you know, just locating the ball.
You're gonna be O, G O B J in it.
You're gonna be doing all this one hand. I'm I'm
gonna probably go get with him and you know, get

(01:41:24):
with Antonio and get with some of those guys and
just you know, find out just a little tricks. You know,
it's your two now, so you gotta you gotta add
something every year. Yeah, I know, Like, but I'm sure
people probably tried. Takee. Man, the speed of league. It's
gonna wear you down, it's gonna beat you up. You're
through one year, You're like, this is kind of I'm
kind of good. Yeah, I'm feeling good. You know. It's
it's just it's all about how you take care of
your body. And you know a lot of guys have
told me that, from Mark to Antonio to you know,

(01:41:45):
all those guys. Man, they're like, man, take care of
your body because that's what's gonna pay you in the end.
So Alvin Camarrow joining US Pro Bowl running back. I
had an incredible year with New Orleans Saint joining is.
He's part of the Visio Top Value Performer Award. But
the t v p awarud All some means dude underpaid.
That means you underpaid, right you Alex Collins, Jordan Howard,
uh and uh and Jered McKinnon. Um, make all right,

(01:42:09):
make the pitch why you should be the tv P
Award winner. Look, I won that, but you know what
I mean, I'll make Let me make the sale for you.
Like how many of your fantasy football leagues did I
win for you? Right? Think about that because yeah, you're
speaking to the fan now right saying like like, uh,
think think about where I was drafted, how you thought

(01:42:30):
of me, and think about how how much you cheered
for me, regardless of who your team was on Sunday.
You look what Alvin Kamara was doing. Like all right,
as a payback all I'm asking. I'm not asking a lot,
I'm asking to vote for me on the TV POY
said it. All right, there we go. I can be here,
I can be spoken. I can bet your hyping. Then
when you win it and next year you have the belt,
I'll be your hype man. I'll come in with the belt.

(01:42:51):
I'm Alvin kamars Man. Hey, congrats in the first year.
Enjoy the fruits of your labor. All the success and
uh continue health, we appreciate joint. That's the one and
only Alvin Kamara's conditions in the field change. So can
your insurance needs. Talk with a farmer's agent today so
you can assess with your policies. Game ready, find an
agent at Farmers dot com. Yeah, I mean, like, look,

(01:43:15):
there's there's all kinds of different ways to score in
the NFL. And and what what Sean Payton has done.
He's a big personnel grouping guy. And what Alvin Kamara,
like Darren sprawls like more more like Reggie Bush than
anything allowed them to do. Is all right. If you
put an extra linebacker on the field, because we're gonna
put running backs in the field, we're gonna lend Alvin

(01:43:36):
Kamara out wide, and that's a mismatch. A linebacker or
a safety can't cover him because he's agile like a
wide receiver. If you choose to go with more defensive backs,
only one linebacker, you know, in a dime sort of
thing deal whatever um or even a quarters, we're gonna
run the football at you with one of the two
running backs. So I think he provides them such incredible versatility.

(01:43:59):
He's a Haunts to mismatching boy. They got three young
absolute stars out wide and two in the backfield for
we expect Drew Brees to be back for at least
another season. Let's bring in Dan buy or find out
what else is going on in the the world of sports.
Nobody traded yet today, right Dan home, But they traded
at all so far. But last night's deal went down

(01:44:21):
last night after we were off the air. But the
big news yes yesterday that Kirk Cousins is gonna have
to find a work elsewhere because the Redskins acquired Alex Smith.
Now where could kirk Cousins go. Well, Broncos imbacker Von
Millard told j T the Brick here on Fox Sports
Radio and also telling The Dan Patrick Show, the team
needs kirk Cousins in Denver. Seems to be the Broncos

(01:44:44):
in Jets dug As the two teams that look to
be the front runners to try to acquire kirk cousins
services when free agency becose. Are that those are the
the The buzz around the NFL that I've talked to
is just that is, uh, those those two teams, and
everybody thinks he's gonna go to Denver because a better
chance of winning right away, and um, they made so

(01:45:05):
many errors in judgment in quarterback, especially drafting, that John
Elway will have to buy his way out of the
quarterback purgatory, just like he bought his way out of
their defensive issues when they were handled pretty easily in
Super Bowl forty eight. Brought in some more younger players
guard the champ. Bailey moved on free agencies. How Denver
seems to do it. Patriots do it a lot of

(01:45:26):
different ways. But today at practice they had a limited
Rob Gronkowski still dealing with that concussion has not been
cleared from concussion Protocold. I've told you, I think they
just want to keep him away from the media. Once
he his media obligations are done, I think he'll be
cleared and good to go for Super Bowl fifty two.
Doesn't that seem fair? That? I think so? But that
would it feels like that would be It feels like

(01:45:48):
like that. How do know the NFL would be running
a be very risky to allow that to somehow influence
whether he's clear from the concussion protocol. You know what
I'm saying? Like it run a little bit of mockery
at the concussion protocol. Tom Brady did wear tape on
his injured hand at practice today. According to the Pool reports,
no glove when he worked out at the Patriots practice session.

(01:46:11):
Fox gonna be the home to Thursday night football for
the next five seasons. Package totally un estimated three point
three billion dollars to broadcast at least eleven games in
So Fox will be the home to Thursday night football
over the next five seasons. Cardinals expected to release running
back Adrian Peterson. A couple of notes from oops. Thirteen
year vet roseul Butler killed in a car accident in

(01:46:31):
l A thirty eight years old. His car actually crashed
in the parking lot of my chiropractor um going ninety
around the curve. But you can't go ninety on Ventura Boulevard. Yes, yes,
So the car crashed in Studio City this morning, killing
him and his wife. He was thirty eight years old.
No Kyrie Irving tonight for the Celtics out against the

(01:46:52):
next because of a quad injury. It's like, look, obviously
you wish somebody would slow down, and you know this
is not cartoon. On the other hand, you don't want anybody,
I mean, you know, any fatality behind the car by
the wheel of cars. That's a rough one. Of course,
the the NBA world has reacted on Twitter. But thanks
to Dan, we'll bring him back and get to get
you up town and everything you might not know going

(01:47:14):
on the world sports in the press about ten minutes away. Also,
people are searching for Red Panda's unicycle. I'm some surprised
Dan did not put out an ap B for Red
Pandas unicycle, which apparently has been stolen. They stole Red
Pandas unicycle. Um and if you don't know Red yet,
Red pand is, I'll give you a chance to google

(01:47:34):
on your phone while you listen to the Doug Gotleap Show.
All right, he's played played for over decade in the league.
Uh yeah, he was the guy who stepped out of
bounds in the back of the end zone for the
windless Detroit Lions. But a guy who played started at
quarterback in the nash Football League back up for uh
for the better part of nine years. Dan Orlovski joins
us in the Doug Gotleap Show. If I'm on Twitter
at Dan Orlovsky seven, Let's get Dan the news of

(01:47:55):
the day. Alex Smith was traded last night to the Redskins.
A lot of sim mimilarities between Smith and Kirk Cousins,
who appears to be on his way elsewhere. When you
heard about the deal, what was your first reaction? Mind blowing.
I just I don't understand it, because here's my thing.
If you look at NFL trades and you say, okay, well,
we're gonna make this deal because it makes us a

(01:48:16):
better football team, there's no way that Washington can justify that.
You know, they're giving away a third round pick that
I know everyone says, Okay, they're gonna get back, but
that's two drafts from now. They gave up Fuller. Who listen,
I've watched the guy on tape. He's a really good
young corner and those guys aren't walking around the earth
that often. And then you're giving away a guy who
has got eighty one touchdowns the last three years and

(01:48:37):
second highest completion percentage against first just Drew Brees. So
I just know it's so much more about Kirk Cousins
to me than Alex Smith. There's no way that you
justify it to your football team, your organization saying oh
we're better. It's just your worse today, you're worse a
year from now, and your worse five years from now. Okay,
well I'll play Devil's advocate and a couple of things
on that in a second. Let's start with the Cousins thing,

(01:48:57):
like why why did they never love Cousins? Like? What
was it they never loved him? Was it? What? What
was it that that relationship seemed destined to fail? Yeah,
I I don't know, because they pulled off the dream
scenario for every team is man, we took our we
found our really good starting quarterback late rounds, right. Every
team dreams to do that. But then I think that
might have been the thing that kind of held him

(01:49:18):
back is he was always just a fourth round pick
for them. He wasn't Robert Griffin, the third who they
took early on in that draft, and he never became
that guy. I don't know. There's there's not much. There's
not much that you can back up play wise or
performance wise that you can go. We don't like Kirk,
He's just he did. He never fit kind of their
their dreamy Washington d C. Capital of America type fit

(01:49:40):
for them. I would imagine that's weird because he does
he seems like a guy who says and tries to
do the right thing. Yeah, maybe almost too much, so
maybe almost to his to his detriment um, I would
counter the, uh, they didn't get better because they saved
some money, right, like, in order remember, in order to
keep him, you have the transition tag him and he
could play and that's thirty something million dollars, or give

(01:50:01):
him a long term deal which would have been more considering. Um,
you can't. You can't take into what they paid the
last two years for him for whatever new contract would be.
And yeah they lost, they lost a third round pick
and a cornerback, but you you know, you saved all
that money. And however, this deal is structured heading for it,
and you have cost certainty. And whether or not Alex
Smith is great, he's good and he's good enough to

(01:50:22):
make playoffs for the last five years with sure, I
get that. But here's my point with Kirk Cousins when saying, Okay,
they didn't get better. Everybody in the NFL will tell
you the most important guy in your organization is your
head coach. And then if you find a quarterback that
is truly a franchise quarterback, he's the most important guy.
So you have that in Kirk Cousins, you have that
in your building, and to get rid of him, to

(01:50:44):
let him walk out, makes you a worse organization for
doing so. The money aspect, all good jams would tell you, whatever, really, really,
whatever it costs me to pay that guy that I
truly think can make me a really good team, it's
worth it. It's worth it. There's no reasonably, but there's
no price tag. There're gonna limit yourself too. And then
after they've handled this the way they've done with Kirk

(01:51:05):
in trading fuller, what makes me think that they're gonna
take that extra X amount of dollars and use it
the right way? I mean, if you save the money
and don't use it the right way, you're you're worse off.
So why not invest in a known commodity, known commodity
that you that has proven he's proven himself over three years.
Alex Smith hasn't. Yeah, but Alex Smith. And again it's
so much more about Cousins than Alex Smith. But Alex

(01:51:26):
Smith is not. And I like Alex. I don't think
he's as good as Kirk. He hasn't proven to be
as good a Kirk over a three year stretch, and
Kirk is just he's the guy that's been in your
locker room. He knows your team, your he's the face
of your team. Now Alex has to come in on
another team and go, hey, I'm I'm I'm the guy

(01:51:47):
that everyone knows. Is kind of just here to hopefully
bring somebody along that's gonna be younger than me. Where
Kirk could have been your guy. It feels like the DC,
what do you have? An in DC is gonna have
what happened in San Francisco and Kanas City. Like they'll
draft the draft a guy mid rounds developed him and
eventually he'll take Alex and Washington has been looking for
a quarterback for ten years now they're gonna keep doing it.
I mean, everyone goes, well, they're gonna draft the guy. Well,

(01:52:07):
you've done that. You took Jason Campbell, and you've took
taken Heath Schuler and you've taken r G three. How
did those first round pigs work out? They didn't. So
it's I just don't I'll never understand the mismanagement of
quarterbacks in the NFL. When I go, okay, I've got
a good guy and I want to see if someone
else is out there. Daniel Loobski joining us on the
Doug Gottlieb Show. Uh here on Fox Sports trading. Okay, So,
Kirk Cousins, what's the best fit for him as he

(01:52:29):
is going to become a free agent. If they don't,
they could probably transition tag him and still trade him
or trade him beforehand. There's there's other options. But he
can kind of choose his own destination. Yeah, I mean,
I think he'll be very calculated with where he goes.
I everyone keeps saying he wants top dollar. I don't
know him personally like that, but I know guys who do.
I know guys that were in college with them and
are very good friends with him. He's not this calculated

(01:52:51):
money guy is gonna go chase the dollar. I think
he's gonna go to a place that all right. I
love this offensive coordinator. I love his system, and they've
got some good reason. He was in a good defense.
I think that two glaring places or Minnesota and Jacksonville
because of the Caps. But Denver Denver again, but I
don't know if he loves Musgraves offense, and Denver has

(01:53:12):
got some issues other than Demarrius Smith or Demarius Thomas.
Who do they really have to throw the ball to
that you love? You know where Minnesota's got feeling and
Stefon Diggs and Kyle Rudolph and Jacksonville's got Allen Robinson
coming back and Hearns and Mercedes Lewis, so they've got
pieces offensively. That's a quarterback you always want to find. Okay, well,

(01:53:33):
who's gonna make my job easier? Who can I throw
the ball to? Demerius Thomas is a nice piece in Denver,
but he's the only guy that really goes Oh, I
can throw that ball. I can throw him the ball. Um,
which which camp are you are? The ELI is washed
camp or ELI still has gas in the tank and
he just didn't have an offensive line or running game. Uh, Camp,
I'm a little bit in the ladder. In the ladder,

(01:53:56):
I think that he's got I think he's got two
years left of good, solid football. I think the Giants
should jump on Josh Rosen as quickly as they can
and allow him to learn from me. Like I don't.
I don't think you're banking on him being your you know,
three or four year planned guy. Yeah, but you think
you draft a quarterback there like, how do you how
do you how do you protect him? If you don't

(01:54:16):
draft go lineman or trade down and get picks. Well,
I get that, but there's not a linement that's gonna
be worthy of the pick there right see, but you try,
you could or you could get could you you draft
to say Kwan Barkley and say, hey, we got we
got a running game. But that's the same thing as
a quarterback. You need someone to block for. But at
least Kuon Barkley would play, whereas if you draft Josh Rosen,
he's not gonna play. You can only play one of them,

(01:54:36):
so you're drafting one to be set on the bench.
I think that, you know, I wish our organizations had
long term views more. I think that you're taking Josh
Rosen okay, going on, I'm gonna sit him for eight, nine, ten,
eleven games as long as I as long as I
can really, and I'm thinking for a decade from now,
because as a as a with a new general manager,
a new head coach, you've got to have some long
term vision of going, Okay, this is a guy we

(01:54:57):
love and he fits everything we want to do. We've
got a tough market. Let him learn from the guy
who's done at the best in our market. I don't.
I don't think you're looking for immediate impact right now.
How convinced are you that Nick Foles can be the
last two games Nick Foles as opposed to the one
who struggled um in those last couple of regular season games.
Nick Foles with the Eagles, uh coming in the Super Bowl? Yeah,
very much so. And I think it's so much more

(01:55:18):
about their staff. And that's what I've been on is
I think that Doug Peterson, Reich and d Flippo have
such a great understanding of how to specifically attack teams,
and they've shown that the past two weeks. And Nick
is just going and executing. And if you watch him
play last week, his confidence level is so high. So
I like Nick because of his staff and what he's
kind of proven. And everyone's got this narrative. Nick's not

(01:55:39):
that good. We'll look at his career. He's got he's
he has successful statistics, he's proven. I just love his staff.
His staff is he's got such a pulse on how
to go, how to go beat New England. Okay, uh,
really quickly you started to mention, Josh Rosen, are you
a Rosen ahead of everybody else guying? No? I think
my favorite guy is Sam Donald. I love Donald. I
think Donald's like a a morphing of Roethlisberger and Romo.

(01:56:03):
You know, everything he does is sloppy, even the good stuff,
and he's got magical sloppiness to him. He if he
can go to a place that's got a really good
coach that can kind of just tighten up some of
that sloppiness. I I think he's got stuff that Donald
has stuff, or Donald has stuff that you cannot teach.
It's just innately born in you and learned over playing
the position. And Rosen has been expertly taught. Yeah, Rosen

(01:56:25):
is Rosen. The thing that does kind of make me
cautious on Rosen is is he as good as he's
ever gonna be? But if his good is if if
he's at his pinnacle right now, it's still can be
really good in the NFL. Okay, the issue with Rosen
becomes this um everywhere he goes, guys don't seem to
like him. Yeah, and how much, I mean, how hard

(01:56:47):
is that in the NFL? Well, I mean that's that's
part of it. I you know, that's one of the
reasons why I think New York is such a great
spot for him to sit back and learn from me.
Like he was such a big recruit high school. Mean
athletes have egos, and there's guys that go, man, I
don't like this Rosen kid because he's been babied and
spoiled his whole life, and that's just how it is sometimes.
So I think that that's why it would be such

(01:57:09):
a benefit for him to learn from Elie. How does
Elie go about handling himself, handling the locker room, handling
his teammates, handling the media, handling all those things that
come with that position, Because guys can learn. If he's
never had anybody to learn from he went to U
c l A. He needs somebody to learn from. Dan Orlovsky. Dan,
great stuff, such a valuable asset too. Will call on
you very very soon again. Thanks for being our guest

Diggs is gonna stop by. I realized that Rich Eisen
stopped when we can't even book Rich Eisen. He's he's
about to be on with JT the Brick. Uh boy.
JT does a great job. Man, what a grinder here

(01:58:44):
on all hours of the day getting an incredible guest list.
Don't be don't don't don't forget to check out his show. Um,
let's let's let's catch up on everything you might have
missed in the world of sports. Here comes to press
the press down. No, no, don down down. Greg Olsen
is gonna join us. No, no, he's not gonna join Fox,

(01:59:05):
not yet, not yet. See what I did there? I
like it? Ever know there's a night football need new broadcasters.
What do you got n I have today? Halls. I
I've had a cough. It used to cough drop and
then I realized I had to do the press, so
I chewed it so my mouth. There's like sixty below
zero right now it is who There's gonna be a
fun one. No, it's true, like sixty below that's just

(01:59:28):
a guestimate. Though usually eat not years passed. UNFL commissioned
to Roger Goodell would have a State of the League
address on Friday, but over the last couple of years
that has changed to a Wednesday. And what do you know?
Today is Wednesday? And what do you know? The NFL
commissioner had his State of the League address, says, well,
there may not be a correlation to injuries and Thursday
Night football, but speaking of Thursday Night football, oh yeah,

(01:59:50):
a new five year deal where the games will be
broadcast on Fox. Here's the commission This morning's announcement on
Thursday Night Football shows the strength of our content. It
shows the strength to our game. If he had every
network that was interested in that, we had very aggressive bidding,
and we see that our content, even in the environment
that's changing very dramatically, we're seeing our content stand above

(02:00:12):
everything else. Look, um, this is like the Prince's Bride.
People declared Thursday Night Football dead. Turns out it was
only mostly dead, which means somewhat alive. And the big
news of the day is not just that Fox We're
gonna get it, it's that it's a five year deal,
which means it ain't dead all right, Storming the Castle kids,

(02:00:33):
and uh, if Thursday Night Football can survive for five
more years, like I think they'll think of with the schedule,
I think they'll try to have more teams come off
by My proposal has been extend the season by a week,
so you got you get a vacation day behind the
Super super Bowl, right, you get Presidents Day behind the
Super Bowl. Make make Sunday a holiday like it should

(02:00:54):
be anyway. Meanwhile, you go back to the two bye
weeks that they had for a short period time, going
back over at decade ago, and you manipulate the schedules
that teams are playing on Thursday, come off a bye.
That was one of his arguments in saying how Thursday
night football shouldn't be changed is because he said that
he got feedbacks, feedback from teams employers that said they

(02:01:14):
liked the ten days off following the Thursday night games,
and as much so Doug. They actually asked that their
Thursday night game not be close to way By so
they could have that double by. That was the commission.
The other problem with Thursday night football is just like
Monday night football, it's really hard to play in the
West Coast. It's really and you have now you have
now you have to l a teams and those games

(02:01:37):
five o'clock starts, five o'clock starts in l a or
in outside of San Francisco, and Saturday where they play
even in Seattle. That's not good. Um, Las Vegas, no boy, no,
So you're cutting off half the country if you want
home games in the West coasts. Yeah, that isn't gonna
be a touchdown on Thursday night football, and there's probably
gonna be a touchdown on Mexico City. Rams and Chiefs

(02:01:59):
will play the game in Mexico City this year. Of course,
the Rams doing it. Since they're getting a new stadium
each game a year, they're gonna be playing internationally. This
year it's in Mexico City as John Romison's Rams take
on the Chiefs. That should be a good game. I
kind of feel like that. That's kind feel like the
Raiders of the Cowboys should be in Mexico City every year.
They have a bigger fan base. I mean, maybe expands

(02:02:21):
the fan base, but I don't. And like I, I
haven't been able to measure the demographics. I have no
statistical analysis to prove this, but I doubt there's very
many Rams fans south of the border. And now don't
that doubt there's many Chiefs fans south of the borders.
It's true. What do you who do? They got Titans
Chargers in London? How how is that gonna work out? One? Like, yeah,

(02:02:41):
I mean that's a bad one too, But I mean,
at least we didn't send him Jaguars again. The Raiders
are going to London. They're gonna be facing the Seahawks
next season. The Eagles, of course, are gonna be facing
the Patriots in Super Bowl fifty two. Egos defensive end
Chris Long, the ll have to get a tattoo of
their linebackers coach face of the coaches face somewhere on
his body if the Eagles win Super Bowl fifty two.

(02:03:02):
Ken Flageola's lawns. There was Longs defensive line coach in St. Louis,
now the Eagles linebackers. So what is way to bet
and training camp? What happens to Chris Long if they
don't win? Nothing? There was no, there's no, that's not
a bet. People have missed a bet is it has
to has to be something wagered on each side. Well,
then that would mean the coach would have to wager
