(00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom. What Up America,
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio Coming to you from
the City of Angels Where it is Sundy. It is windy,
and it's also home to the best team in the

(00:41):
NFL and arguably one of the top five other teams
in the Nashtional Football League, and the Dodgers have a
home playoff game on the thirty anniversary of Gibbey's home
run off of Ack. Will get to that? Which call
was better? Up coming in the show? Yeah, how we
got a lot to get to NBA tips off tomorrow night.
We got Monday Night Football tonight, and an incredible series

(01:05):
of games in the nash Football League yesterday, starting off
with the one that I got a chance to be
a part of, which up until last night was Game
of the Day. Right over time Dolphins Bears. That vaunted
Bears defense seemed to tire in. Dolphins had a great
game plan with Brock October Brock Oswyler getting the start.
How crazy is that? Brock Ostwealler his first start with

(01:26):
the Broncos, his first start with the Texans, and now
his first start with the Dolphins. All three wins, all
three over the Chicago Bears, and then of course culminating
last night and what we thought would be the game
of the week and may well be the game of
the year thus far, the Patriots take down the Chiefs. Um,

(01:48):
did you guys know that the Patriots did not hunt
last night? You're like, well, where have I seen that before?
The Super Bowl would be the answer for the Patriots.
And all of the palaver are my favorite words. David
Stern taught me a word. This is like a decade
ago when he was talking about the palaver in the
off season. I was like, palaver. It was all of

(02:10):
the all of the talk, all the talk of the
off season was Brady and Belichick don't get along. I've
heard for the last couple of years some people who
have jobs on TV saying Brady is ready for a
precipitous decline, and then at the start of the year
people want to call it all right, I want to
be the first to call it, Patriots, You're done. And

(02:32):
then they get Josh Gordon, and then they get Julian Edelman,
and then they smack around the Miami Dolphins that came
in undefeated, and then they win a couple more games
than they don't punt against the Kansas City Chiefs. Tyreek
Hill might be the fastest player to play in the NFL.
Uh an NFL front office guy was hanging out with

(02:53):
on Saturday. He said, you saw him playing for Oklahoma
State his first games against Florida State in areas world,
and they all concluded then that he was he played
at a different speed than anybody. And now you watch
him run away from really really fast dudes, and that
might actually be true. They can't see Chiefs have a

(03:14):
tremendous offense at Pat Mahomes. For the most part, played
great football. Now he made some mistakes, and we told
you Friday what Kiko Alonso told me earlier in the
day on Friday, which is like, hey, you're gonna be
the Pets. You gotta just not make any mistakes. But
has there ever been an organization ever that just figures

(03:34):
it out. Defense wasn't great at allowed forty points, but
they got two picks, including a pick six. Tom Brady
was good. Was he perfect? No? But they established a
power running game with Sony Michelle. They figure out how
to make their new wide receiving Corps kind of work.

(03:54):
They get the ball to Gronk where Gronk has one
of the all time great stiff arms, and while Kansas
City scored a bunch of points. It's a lot like
Happy Gilmore when he was driving the ball but not
winning tournaments. Patriots Patriots is sitting up there at the podium. Hey, hey,

(04:16):
what about me? We won the g actual game. It's
it's the craziest and most explainable, least explicable thing. But
they just figure it out. They just figured out. And
oh yeah, by the way, remember all that talk about

(04:37):
the NFL and how it's unwatchable. It's two hand touch football.
And I don't hear anybody complaining about Pat's chiefs. You
guys complaining. No. First half of Dolphins bearras I was
a part of it. It was seven nothing boring. It
was interesting, I mean it was it was really interesting.

(04:57):
Jordan Howard fumbles at the one foot line of the
Chicago Bears, and then brock Oswaller throws one ball deep
down the field that Kenny steels and gets pit And
it wasn't the Kenny steals um. He end up ends
up getting picked um. But the bigger point was he
turned around the second half and it was a lot

(05:18):
more fun it was Davante Parker. It was more fun.
How much fun was Sunday Night football. I'm on a
plane watching it, just hooting and hollering and everybody's just
going crazy. This is the best. Football is a lot

(05:40):
like men. Trying to explain men to women. I have girls,
and I have a boy. Boys are easier, They're easier
to raise. Just get him something to do, get him
something competitive, get him out there moving, like was it
Jeff Foxworthy? I want to see something naked on some

(06:03):
cold drink, and I want to see something naked. Right.
Men are pretty We're pretty easy. Americans are pretty easy.
Football is pretty easy. We want some hard hits, and
we want to see his score. We want to be competitive,
we want to be close. We want to see his score.
If we didn't want scoring, we would watch soccer, But

(06:24):
we don't watch soccer, and with the exception of every
four years where if we're involved, we pretend to care
about soccer. Why because they don't score that much and
they don't hit each other that much. That's it. We're
not that hard. Men, aren't that hard to figure out?
Football is not that hard to figure out. Yeah, the
defenses and offenses are intricate, and sure it's about finding

(06:47):
mismatches and pre snap reads and motion all that other stuff.
At the end of the day, we like offense. That
game was fun. Yeah, the Chiefs gotta played two hand
touch and it's Andy Reid. The thought that you Reid
is gonna come through in the playoffs and not get
tight and not get conservative when he has a lead.
I'll believe it when I see it. And it'll be

(07:07):
interesting to see if Pat Mahomes continues on this incredible
trajectory where he has had some games where he takes
a step back, but he keeps making throws and slinging
around and moving around to make you to believe that
maybe he's the new age far for Aaron Rodgers or
something uh comp of the two. But at the end
of the day, you can't make mistakes if you want
to beat the Patriots. He told you that Friday defense,

(07:32):
we may ultimately win championships. For man, is it fun
to watch offense wins games? And who hum? The Patriots
probably the second best team in football and the f
C runs through New England. The Patriots or team you
are not going to declare dead until a year after

(07:55):
it happens. Right, it's there there they are as a
team as Brett Farve was as a career. Brett Farve's out,
he's done. They brought him back. Brett Farves out, he's done.
They brought him back. That happened in Green Bay three
times over. Then he goes to the Jets, and then
he then he goes to Minnesota, and then he quit.
And then Chile sit sends three dudes or four dudes

(08:17):
down to plane. They bring him back with some awful
warning Nike had. They bring him back. Now it's over.
He was out of the league a year before. I
was like, Okay, now I'll believe it's actually done. We
are not gonna have to It's not just gonna have
to have mirrors over underneath the nose of the Patriots.
We're gonna have to have a decaying corpse of the Patriots.

(08:38):
I need a complete season of decay before I declare
them dead, because otherwise the sun rise in the east
and SAIDs to the west, and the a f C
goes through Foxboro, Massachusetts. Period stop. End of story, stuck
Otlam Show, Fox Sports Radio. All Right, Trent Dilfer is
gonna join us upcoming next Super Bowl champion A quarterback guru?

(08:58):
What we learned about Pat Mahomes? How the Patriots continue
to do this? Uh? I felt like Baker Mayfield took
a step back yesterday. Was it the Chargers and getting
up front, in in in front of him where he
likes to drive and throw the ball down the middle
of the field? Or is this the weakness to Baker Mayfield?

(09:18):
What do you do with your Jacksonville with Blake Bortles
suddenly looking like well Blake Bortles. And then how does
Brock Osweiler? How does Brock go from persona non grata
in other locker rooms to beating arguably the best defense
in the sport yesterday in Miami. We got a lot
to get to. We'll do it with Trent Dilfer up

the Elite eleven, the nation's UH go to Elade eleven
dot Combinations premier quarterback competition. UM I got a chance
to do sideline Trent for UM Bears taken on the Dolphins,
and it was really eye opening, not just the game
and the speed of the game and watching both quarterbacks work,

(11:31):
but also talking to the offensive coordinators and the head
coaches who are former coordinators in their own rights. Let
me start with with Mitchell Robinsky, who they love everything
about him. They love very athletic, but he did he
missed on a couple of throws. Um and he threw
a bad pick in the end zone after a pick

(11:51):
play called back, uh called back at Trey Burton touchdown
and I'm I'm just wanting there all Ryan Pace and
that crew is all in on Mitchell Robinsky two years in,
or year and a half in, Are you well? First
of all, it's a terrible call on Burton uh In,
a terrible decision on the next play to throw in
the end zone. I am not sold yet. I love

(12:12):
the physical makeup, I love the competitor. I know, h
Mitch sense. We did not invite him to the eleven
Finals his junior in high school, and we've talked through
all that. I love the type of kid he is.
I do think his limited starts in North Carolina will
slow up his growth process. He's gonna learn under fire

(12:35):
a little bit more. But all the makings are there.
Is he playing great football now? No, A lot of
that offense is manufactured and people are gonna, um, you know,
get onto a little bit, and the book is going
to be written on him, and he's gonna have some struggles.
But I don't see any reason why in two three
years from now he's not a top ten quarterback in

(12:56):
this league. They seemed to, they seemed to be believers
of a They're just there's some throws there that he
where he leaves some points on the field, which are
the only things that leave you kind of scratching your head.
But the leadership stuff they love, all right, what about
brock brock Osweiler gets gets the pins, hit, gets the
start because Tanny Hill is hurt and he's got this

(13:17):
crazy stat where first start with the Broncos against the Bears,
gonna win, First start with the Texans against the Bears,
gonna win. Then yesterday, you know, they got rid of
it really quick. They ran the ball bunch on first
down to get to third and manageable. But second half
he started to throw the ball a little bit more down,
to feel a little bit more down the middle of
the field, getting more to his playmakers. How did brock
Osweiler go from a guy who felt like he was

(13:40):
falling out of the league too again as a as
a pinch hitter, played so well yesterday against that kind
of defense. Well, think he's growing up. You know, he's
had a lot of setbacks that he's gotten through the
right way. He got a lot of help yesterday. Uh
you know, he threw what six or seven balls in
the line of scrimmage that little hundred fifty yards or something.

(14:02):
I do it was something ridiculous. He did make some
big boy throws in the second half. We also kind
of play with that care free, non anxious attitude that
you can play with when you're a backup. Brock's issue
has been in his time in the NFL, once the
book has written on him, once people start scouting him
and game planning him, he struggled. He's pretty one dimensional.

(14:25):
So I was happy for him. Man, he played great.
It was a great win for them, especially after the
fumble on the goal line that to bounce back and
win it. Um, But it's not like rock Oswire is
going to become a name again. We're talking about as
an NFL quarterback. Very off. Yeah, I would. I tend
to tend to agree with you. Doug otlip Show Here
on Fox Sports Radio, Trent Dilfer is our guest, what

(14:46):
do you see from Mahomes last night? It's scary how
much like Brett Farvey is. You know, I played against
Bretton's hey day those three m v p s. I
was one in ten and Lambeau against him. I got
this being up close and personal. Um, Brett would come
out in big games and be a little fiery, little

(15:06):
amped up, miss high take extra chances. You knew you
had to get to bred early if he was going
to make a mistake. Once he settled down, once he
got into rhythm, he was nearly unstoppable. And that's what
Patrick Mahomes is right now. He's Uh, he's a you know,
three thousand dollars sports car that they're driving wide open.

(15:27):
They're not you know, they're not cruise around town with him.
They're out on the Audubon going a hundred and sixty UM.
They're taking a ton of risk. They're pushing it down
the field. They're not put any restraints on him. He
made a couple of mistakes, he bounced back, uh, and
they put up a forty piece in Foxborough. And that's
hard to do on a prime time game. It's the

(15:49):
kid's first primetime game. Crowd, noise, travel, all the things
that go with that. Big media week for the kid.
If you think about the kids lives look like this,
uh season, midweek with media requests. He's having to go
through that. That takes a toll on you. Ah. He
goes up there, he puts at piece on him in
fifty three plays, doug On, we had fifty three plays.

(16:09):
The Patrios had seventy three UM. The sky's the limit
for this team, for that quarterback. I really want to
see that matchup again, but I want to see it
in Kansas City. I think it'd be a different game. Um, okay,
then then then let's go to the other side by Brady.
They didn't punt. Now they get stopped on downs really
and Brady fumbled, but they did not punt. How do

(16:30):
we go from this offense looking so inept? And granted,
I know you added Julian Edelman uh and Josh Gordon,
but how do they go from looking so inept suddenly
not and and this is not the five Bears that
they're facing, right or your Ravens defense that they're facing.
But my my goodness, this is a different team. What
have they figured out? Well, you can see the beginning

(16:53):
of the the year. They are more dedicated to run the
football this year. Um. They have bigger offensive lineman, especially
with Trent Brown. Uh. They have the rookie back in Michelle,
They have multiple backs, you can run the rock. They
have one of the premier blocking tight ends in football.
They have a very good full back. And at the
time they didn't have Gordon. They didn't have Edelman, so
they didn't have the guys that could take advantage of

(17:16):
those matchups outside of Gronk. So on passing situations they
got stifled a little bit because team's focusing on Gronk.
Chris Collins. We did a great job last night of explaining, hey,
all these runs thirty eight in total. All these runs,
they're moving the chains or eating up the clock, but
at some points they're going to create these isolation matchups

(17:36):
with Gordon and especially Gronkowski. Grokowski had one catch and
then it was like Chris was prophetic. The next thing
you know, Brady catches them in a run front. It's
called a bare front. That play that they showed over
where the tackle blocks out and and Gronk had the
free release. He sees that front because they're getting gashed
by the run. He audibles to that play. You can

(17:56):
clearly see him go to his headgear and change the
playing it to the audible and they get the big
chunk there. Then they get the play to close out
in the two minute uh situation, Gronk on the switch
release go route against man coverage with Brady hand signal.
So my point to all that, a typical till for
long explanation answer is they're more dedicated to running the ball.

(18:19):
They're gonna eat up more clock They're and protect their defense,
and they're gonna be more a big play offense, more
chunk yardage plays. They're not going to be the spread out,
five wide option routes inside the Edelman White catching twelve
balls a game. They still have that, and you'll see
that on third down, you'll see that in two minute,
you'll see that in situations. But their core offense this

(18:40):
year is more of a run, run, action, opportunistic, chunk
passing game. And because they didn't have Gordon, they didn't
have Edelman early on, there was some frustration going through that.
But in six weeks, I think this is one of
those offenses not well just that won't just be explosive,
but also hold the ball for thirty two thirty three
minutes in the course of the game and for check
that defense. Yeah, it's really really amazing on how they

(19:04):
how they will change and figure it out. And part
of it is, you know, you have a rookie Sony Michelle,
a rookie running back who wasn't healthy in the preseason
early in the season, and he's just a rookie. He's
kind of gotta figure it out. He's figured out. Speaking
of figuring out, Um, the Dallas Cowboys lean. They lay
forty on the Jaguar. Now. I want to get to
Blake Borders in a second. But what are the Dallas

(19:26):
Cowboys doing differently? They're growing, I mean everybody, every everybody,
and I get it. You gotta have the token Cowboys section,
uh segment because of pushes ratings and everybody wants to
talk about the Cowboys. And but they're a team. You know,
they're just figuring it out. There. There are a defense
that's pretty darn good, gonna get better. Um, some young
pieces in there. They're still probably a difference maker at safety,

(19:48):
at difference maker defensive tackle away from being dominant, but
they're good Offensively, they're growing. They're trying to figure out
what their offense should be at that yesterday was a
step in the right direction. More Saturday looking offense, more motions,
stack receiver looks, spread out looks, giving Dack more space
to maneuver. Um let him run a little bit. His

(20:10):
own read is still a very dangerous weapon in the
NFL if you use it judiciously. Um, So they're trying
to figure themselves out. Where they three and three. I
we can have the same conversation in three more weeks
and they're still probably figuring out the One thing I
do like about Jason Garrett. Everybody killed him last week
and we talked about it. But he's a process guy.

(20:31):
He's a big picture thinker. He's a long term guy.
Now that's not everybody's taste, and you know what, if
he's too patient over the next couple of years, there
may be a switch. But right now with this team,
taking the long tail approach to growing this team is
the right thing to do, and they're moving the right direction.
You're not gonna win the Super Bowl this year, they're
probably not gonna win it next year. But I think

(20:51):
if you can fight into the playoffs this year, you
can be a contender next year. Then in three years
you get some more difference makers and you're still not
having to pay out these massive contracts. Then you've got
a chance. What what's happened to Blake? I think Blake
is a guy that and again I I don't I
think every the narrative on Blake is probably true. He's

(21:14):
not a franchise guy. He's not a guy that's going
to carry your team. He's not a guy that can
make up for the airs of a lot of other people,
but he was the right guy when that team was
playing their style of football. They've been decimated by injury. Offensively,
they're on the third tackle, they don't have their premier
running back. They don't have a lot of the things
they thought they were going to have, so their philosophy

(21:36):
has changed, and he's not probably ready for that, not
talented enough to take that burden of being a high
volume passer. Defensively, they haven't held their water. I mean
that is a team that was supposed to be dominated
by defense. They have a lot of money in that defense,
they have premier players, they have difference makers. They should
not get gash. That should be unacceptable no matter how

(21:59):
much they're on the it. I've been on those teams
that your defensive centric and the great ones taken upon
themselves and say, listen, circumstances don't matter. We're gonna keep
that other team out of the end zone worse there,
or they're gonna kick field goals. And this is two
straight weeks they've been gassed. So Blake Portals is a
guy that, if given a strong defense, an offensive philosophy

(22:20):
that suits his strengths can take you a long way.
But as soon as you get outside of that profile,
then he's not gonna be a guy that can carry you.
And then and then now, especially as you look around
the league, where there used only be four or five
guys that can really carry the water of their team,
now we might have ten, eleven, twelve guys that can
do it. So it makes him look that much more

(22:42):
deficient than everybody else. There's just talk, well, you should
trade for Eli. And first of all, I thought they
should trade for Eli last year, but that was when
Blake was under a different contract. Between Blake's contract and
the fact that Eli looks washed that that that does
not appear to be a possible or prudent decision, right No,

(23:02):
And I think here's a bigger conversation, one that you
can build on the rest of your show the rest
of the week and get people's inputtings. I really think
it's maybe one of the biggest discussions in football right now.
Can you even win a championship if your quarterback eats
up a major part of your salary cap, if your
name is not the New England Patriots, then again, can

(23:23):
you win a Super Bowl. If your quarterback and alpha
wide receiver are eating up a significant chunk of your
salary cap, I would argue it makes it very difficult
to do because the rest of your fifty three becomes
so weak because you can't pay them, or you're trusting
undrafted rookies and key positions in the fourth quarter, playing
in the secondary, playing on the offensive line, or maybe

(23:45):
running routes for you. And where the salary cap is
really hurt football is that they included the quarterback in it.
If they would have taken the quarterback out of it
and just capped how much quarterbacks can make but didn't
involve it in the total salary cap, would have better
football teams. But right now, the Kansas City Chiefs, the St.
Louis I'm sorry. Sting Louis always had, the l A Rams,

(24:07):
and the Philadelphia Eagles have a chance because they're on
first contract quarterbacks, so bulk of their salary cap isn't
devoted and salary to the quarterbacks, so they can spread
the wealth around and he can be a better team.
Did you mention Eagles Eagles Tom Bays twenty one and
bass salary by the way, exactly and I was just

(24:29):
listening to discussion on Fox with Whitlock talking about and
Tony Gonzalez brought a great point that Tom Brady cares
so much about winning, he should be the highest day
player on the planet and he's twenty one because he
takes less money because he gets it. He takes a
long tail approach to this that listen, I don't need
to make thirty three million dollars a year. I want
that extra twelve thirteen million dollars to go to go

(24:52):
get Trent Brown, or to pay Edelman a little bit more,
or give Grant what he deserves or you know high
Tower on the defensive end or McCay. Those guys need
to get paid to we need fifty three guys. What
where TV? Where the media has ruined football? And I
was part of this, But where we've ruined it is
we've made it two quarterbacks centric to sizzle centric too

(25:15):
flash centric. It's the greatest team sport ever because it
does take everybody. And I know you don't have time
to talk about it, but it takes your third your
swing offensive lineman has to be a good player if
you're gonna win. Well, listen, listen, I I agree with you,
but I also point out that I would if I
if if push comes to shove, I would rather invest

(25:36):
it in the quarter Now, look, Tom Brady with the
cap hit is actually he's I think twelve eleventh. Let
me see here, he's tied for eleventh with Philip Rivers.
They two million because remember they gave him more in
bonuses or whatever. But the point is, like I watched
Khalil Mack, who's had an incredible season, but he was
he was a non factor yesterday in Miami. He was.
A quarterback is never a non factor. So if if

(25:59):
I'm forced to choose between the two, I choose quarterback.
But managing the egos, managing the salaries, not lumping it
into one or two players, is kind of the key
to to building a you know, fifty three, forty six
whatever man roster where you can compete in the NFL,
where guys go you know, guys always go down with injuries,

(26:20):
but you do need a viable quarterback in order to win.
I totally agree, and I'm with you a percent. And
I would never pay Levi on Bell because I've already
paid Ben Roethlis for Gonnatio Brown. That you're gonna get
to that. But I think the answer to where we
started this is you have to cut bait with Blake Portals.
You have to cut bait with the elive Manning. If
you don't believe Tannehill, you gotta cut bait. You have

(26:41):
to cut bait on guys and go get the Herbert's,
the Locks, the Stidhams, the families, whoever you think your
guy is, or the year after this, the Haskins, the
two us, whatever it is. But as long as the
salary cap is what it is right now, where the
quarterback is part of the overall cap, I think are
going to see a massive shift to going and get

(27:03):
trusting a young guy because offenses have changed. It's an
easier transition the NFL, where you're gonna spread the well.
Try to win with a first contract quarterback. I think
it's gonna be exceedingly more difficult to win with a second, third,
fourth contract quarterback, unless if your name is not the
New England Patriots. That's that. That's interesting that I did

(27:25):
did that. I did not think of Trent Dilfer. Check

Who the Brewer fan be happy? Seahawk fan gotta be happy.
I was happy for about six innings on Saturdays, six
or se an innings and then uh, seventh and eighth
kind of took care of that. But you know, Brewers
and Dodgers gonna get things going this afternoon in l A.

(28:06):
At least for us here on the West Coast. Coverage
on Fox Sports one six thirty Eastern time tonight, best
of seventh series tied up at a game of piece,
those Dodgers will have Walker Bueller on the mound. Dodgers
counter with you least Chasin, can you spell you? Les
Chast looking yeah, I've got it right in front of me,
so yes, yes, so actually I actually I can. But

(28:27):
the uh, it's the the tricky part, isn't the j h.
I think it's the h l y s in the
the O U l y s is the tricky Yeah,
ways reasons. I know that I'm old and I watched
too many movies. Okay. Is anytime I hear walk our
Bueller starting for the Dodgers, I automatically think Bueller. Sure.

(28:51):
And then yesterday when Cody Parkey, former Dolphin msed to
kick to beat the Dolphins, I all I wanted to
scream and I want to get on the microphone screaming
out like is out, Rino Place is out? Uh? Do
you know what that's from? You're not a movie guy. Well,
we've talked about it last week. It was Ace vent Turle,
which I have seen. It's just been so long that

(29:12):
I don't remember anything. Do you think it was funny?
At the time, I thought it was all right? Yeah, yeah,
I don't think it's there were there are parts to it.
That's one of those. Is probably funnier when you went
back and saw it back then, but now it might
not stand up. Jim Carey just not seen his funny
now how dark now? Yeah? That Uh that Netflix thing
that he did with talking about his Andy Kaufman role,

(29:34):
that wasn't interesting how he was just Andy Kaufman for months. Interesting.
I recommended h view for you if you will, if
you're not watching football or you're not watching baseball, some
football nose. Buccaneers fire defensive coordinator Mike Smith after two
plus seasons. Brown's quarterback Baker Mayfield expected to start Week
seven against the Buccaneers despite suffering an ankle injury and

(29:56):
their loss to the Chargers. Here's some losses injury wise
in the NFL, I Kings lost corner Mike Hughes. He
was their first round pick done for the year with
the torn a c L. Broncos lost guard Ronald Leary
for the season with the rupstirt Achilles, and Falcons running
back DeVante Freeman out Week seven as his kicker Matt Bryants,
but ed coach Dan Quinn says they'll know more about
wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who has a bone bruise in

(30:17):
his knee. Falcons will play a week from tonight against
the Giants. Tonight, forty Niners and Packers wrap up Week

Warriors ruling Russell Westbrook out not much of a surprise

done with the game, or your son gets done with

(31:24):
the dam and your daughter gets done with a game,
you just like summation. What did we learn right? What
have we learned? Like I every time I watched the
Seahawks play. And it's not because I know Dan's a fan,
but I do think of Dan because he he watches
every snap of every Seahawk game. I keep thinking, we

(31:45):
all started the season thinking legion of boom done. Seahawks
are in rebuild mode. And I'm like, you know what,
why why should we not have faith in Pete Carroll
and that front office? Now? When they built the legion
of boo them with guys that most people had never
heard of back then, they built it once, why can't

(32:05):
they built it again? And sure enough, here they are
their average, just slightly above average. They've probably given the
Rams their best game up until yesterday. Heck, if Sean
McVeigh punce, if Pete Carroll doesn't call time out last week,
Russell Wilson's got the ball, chance to win the game tied,
the game was by seven, they could have won it.

(32:25):
They went for two whatever. So um. One of the
things we learned is like, I don't know why we
want to count out Seattle when they got Pete Carroll.
Even if they've got dudes, you haven't heard of the
dudes that you used. The Cliff Avriel's, the the Richard Shermans,
Heck Russell Wilson's of the world. Many people didn't think

(32:46):
we're going to be what they became. That's what they
have now. That's what they have now. But the most
important thing we have learned so far in the NFL
is all of the plather of the off season. Brady
and Belichick hate each other. They won't get along. It'll change,

(33:07):
it will be different. It's just belaver. The Rams are

Show here on Fox Sports Radio catching up with John
Middlecoff Three and Out is in fact the podcast how
would you handle the Odell Beckham Jr. Situation? When I
was working in Philly for coach Read, he suspended de
Shawn Jackson and then last year with Marcus Peters, he
suspended Marcus Peters. But those two times that that'sn't heard

(33:47):
of in the NFL. A coach suspending a player. I mean,
this league waits for the league to suspend them. You
never suspend your best player. Like, does Pat Shermer have
the juice to just suspend Odell Beckham next week? Now?
Is he the problem? No? But they need to somehow
get ahold of this because they're probably gonna have a
rookie quarterback next year or a new quarterback. You know,

(34:10):
they need to get rain him in a little bit.
It might be too late that they I mean, they
knew what they signed up for. But the running back,
you know, it looks like he was trying to calm
them down. I mean, I imagine John mera O'Dell became
such a big story, had no choice but to pay them.
But it's kind of a problem. People will be like,
freak out home if you didn't do anything wrong, I
got that a lot. You gotta rein him in a

big deal, little deal or no deal that Raiders had
Coach John Gruden didn't confirm or deny the J. Glazier

(35:57):
report that the team is shopping wide receiver Amari coup For,
who suffered a concussion, and yesterday's lost to the Seahawks.
I thought he did deny it. I mean, let me,
let me just I have a I had the quote
here um on Cooper, Druden said, I believe I don't
know where you guys get that stuff from. We want
him to be a part of what we're doing for

(36:18):
a long time. I felt like that was that was
a pretty a decent denial. I thought that at the
end of the game, he said, a lot of stuff
has happening. Let's just hope that Amari is is well.
I took it as that he didn't want to answer
the question. I think they are gonna I think they
are gonna, they are gonna move guys. I just don't
know if Amari Cooper is uh. Here, here's what he said. Here,

(36:40):
here's what he said. He said, I don't know. No,
I haven't heard that. You know, I'm not I'm not
you know. I'm just sorry I have to deal with
these sort of reports. But I hope Amar is okay.
Like I said, he's gonna be a big part of
what we're what we're doing for a long time. So
I don't know of that. I don't know if that's
an he did not VI immittedly deny. I think you're
proble more accurate. But I hope he's okay. Like I said,

(37:03):
he's going to be a part of our past offense
four weeks seven if he's healthy. Maybe that was the comments,
all right, I mean you think they trade him, I
think they get I think not anymore. I mean, if
he's I don't know how much they could have gotten
for him anyway for a wide receiver, and he hasn't

(37:25):
necessarily lived up to the expectations. I don't know who would.
I just don't know who's in the market for that,
well more than you think. I mean, look, Cowboys in
the market for there's there's teams in the markets for
playmaking wide receivers. I would say Cowboys are very much
in the market for playmaking wide receivers. Uh. Would you
give up a fourth round pick for him? Yes? But

(37:47):
maybe even above that. I mean the big thing is
that the oh yeah, MARII Cooper. Yeah. I just don't
think he's lived up to expectations in Oakland now and
for just eight weeks of a season, and then yeah,
but his contract. I don't know his contract situation, but
at some point you're gonna have to pay him I
thought he really, I thought he signed an extension. Well
then they're even more so, Yeah, well here's his contract.

(38:10):
I should have done a lot more research on this topic.
You know what, he has not renegotiated, so he's in
his deal. Is it's uh, he's only making he's on
his he's on his rookie deal. But then he has
new money next year, capit cap hit, his his substantial

(38:31):
next year. So that's probably why they will move him
a team. Yeah, they had to pick up his option
before this season for the fifth year. But yeah, I
just I don't think the value that you got when
you took him, what fourth overall has been there and
for what this team is right now? Who knows. Let's
move on. Big deal, a little deal or no deal?
That the Rams of the first team to go six
and oh to start the season. Since, by the way,

(38:54):
I just want to say that I'm wrong, you're right
on the he did not say. He did not be
humilately deny it. So anyway, well, looks what we're saying,
the Rams are the first team to go six and
out to start this season. Since that's a big deal.
That's a big deal. I mean, it's a it's a
big deal because, look, they took a lot of chances
and they went all in and so far they've hit
and they have sustained some injuries. But they've now shown

(39:16):
they can win in weather, which was always a part
of the old Rams problem when they were in l
A in the past. Uh, they've shown, you know, they
can win close ones. They shown they can win blowouts,
and they've beaten a couple of the best teams. And
they did beat the Chargers, they did beat the Vikings.
Those are two of the elite talented teams in the league.
And they win the road to one in Denver. I
don't think Denver is very good, but I do think
winning in Denver is a good is a good win.

(39:38):
The Pro Football References since there have been thirty six
teams to start six and now thirty four of those
teams have made the playoffs. So just twice they're gonna
and plus that divisions think nine have won the Super Bowl.
Big deal, little deal or no deal. That the NFL
came out and explained that Antonio Brown's touchdown for the
Steelers was legal. Explain I think that Bengals dB Torty

(40:01):
McCrae was the one to make contact with wide receiver
Justin Hunter making that play legal. That seems like a
big deal. I thought it looked like a pick play,
but they said by rule it's not, so we're all wrong.
Big deal, little deal or no deal that the Patriots
have banned a fan from Gillette Stadium after that person
threw a beer at Chief's wide receiver Tyreek Hill during
last night. So it feels like a big deal for

(40:22):
that mass whole. Yeah, right, I mean that's that's what
they gotta get right. Look, there there are a lot
of jerks that that go to NFL games, and you
don't want people throwing things to other people. But I
think throwing a beer at a guy is in the end,
it's a waste of like twelve dollars, But it would
be nice if you're running down the football video score
touchdown to get relieved by some cold SuDS. I don't

(40:44):
think that's the worst thing in the world. I do
think it's a preston being said, feels like a little deal,
big deal, little dealer, no deal Doug that the SEC
find l s U one hundred thousand dollars after fans
rushed the field following their win over the number two
Georgia this past. That means this is their second or
third violation of the rush the field thing. Um, I
do feel like you should get one rushing of the

(41:04):
field per year. That's what should be. But who gets
the hundred grand? The SEC gets it back as a
conference Um yeah, I guess so maybe they donate it
to charities like some of the other findes to like
like Mississippi State. Anyway, Finally, dug big deal, little deal
or no deal that the Angels are reportedly giving their
managerial candidates a two hour written test which focuses on

(41:29):
analytics and game management. This is a big deal. It
shows the utter and complete stupidity of the I thought
this is gonna be a no deal for that same reason.
Time on the duck Godli show, What do you what
are you do? What are you doing? Like? What are
you doing? Come on? This is I mean, I guess

(41:51):
in an effort to be different, they're going to be
completely different. But there we plenty of good managerial candidates
like he kidn' not doing this. They should just give
him Sudoku puzzles, begin her middle and expert and see
what they can do. And I don't know how to
do you. Yeah, yeah, they're fun music. Do you know Dodoku?
I mean I know how. I wouldn't say I'm good
at that. I don't know how to do it best.

(42:12):
I guess I can figure it out. But crosswords. I
like crosswords better than Sudoku cross What about you? Ramos
like cross wards. I'm with you. Three things that came
to an end this weekend. I'll share them with you
up coming next, The Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio.

Dug Gotlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Welcome and I hope
you had a great weekend. Major League Baseball with the
Red Sox getting off the schneide and getting a win

(42:57):
last night at Fens. Is that series heads to Houston,
of course, so the Dodgers came from behind and got
a second a win in Game two. That series heads
to to a sunny, yet windy Chevez Ravine later on
this afternoon, and then you got college football. We haven't
even gotten to college football. Right, think about a huge weekend,

(43:20):
some with some big upsets. Tennessee pulls off an upset,
Michigan State pulls off an upset, and uh oh yeah,
by the way, l s U pulls off what would
be an upset? Hey, uh, Ryan music. I haven't checked
my picks. I haven't checked on this. How did I
do on Saturday? How do you do? You did pretty well, Doug?

(43:42):
You went a four oh and one? What did I
push on? Uh? Nebraska? I thought there was three and
a half. I thought it was three. But regardless, you're
either five an o or four oh and one? And
then I was two, and then I was two and three. Uh?
How the Pats are favorite by three and a half? Correct?

(44:04):
And how many of the Pats went by I don't
recall the won by three. I don't remember. I don't
have the paper in front of me right now. Dan
just told me they were favored by three and a half.
Huh three, They're played by three and a half and
they won by three. So I believe I was three
and two in the NFL. So that puts me at
fourteen and eleven in in my NFL picks. And you

(44:27):
you somehow don't count the fact that I've dominated on
Thursday nights and Monday nights, but that's okay, just on
Sunday picks. I am, Now, what do we say, fourteen
eleven and then college football with a five and a weekend,
the five in a weekend, that one moves to sixteen
and nine in college football, So five or five on Fridays.

(44:49):
Those are better numbers than Cowherd puts out, definitely better
numbers than know what Clay Travis does. And he somehow
landed a gambling show. He landed gambling show must be
because of his good looks and his charm um. Alright,
so we got that going for you. We have Michael
Lombardi up coming. I like when narratives slowly die, they

(45:13):
just die, they go away, Like yeah, let's let's go
back through my Twitter account and delete that one. Right.
There was the guy who remember the after Michigan lost
a Notre Dame, Jim Harbaugh, Clay Travis. Jim Clay Travis
did the whole whole piece, but it was the whole
last sixteen games there, eight and eight, and Jim Harbaugh

(45:34):
is the most overrated, overhyped. He sucks. And then you're like, oh,
then now they're uh five and one, six and one.
On the year they dominated Wisconsin, they'll be ranking teams.
Wisconsin's ranked team. They beat them. Yes, they had to
come from behind to beat Northwestern. Who Northwestern beating Nebraska.
I don't know if you guys saw that game, if
you had Nebraska at oh and six, if you had

(45:56):
the futures, bet on Nebraska being O and six. Congratulations
take all of our money. That's crazy. But um, I
like when narratives die, and felt like three narratives died
this weekend, at least three the first that this is

(46:21):
this is what I love. He remember when Blake Mortles
was a franchise quarterback. Hey, Blake Bortles proved everybody wrong.
Blake Bortles let up the Patriots, And you're like, Blake
Bortles is Blake. I was with you all the time,
all these jerks who said you couldn't play, who said
you weren't any good. I would also, I'm also not

(46:44):
going to take the Blake Bortles can't play. No, Blake
Bortles can play when they have Leonard Fournette behind them,
when they have their offensive line all set, when they're
built upon the run, when they can get a lead,
when they can shorten the game, when their defense can
pin their ears back and get after the pastor, and

(47:04):
that way they can get after you defensively. Like when
you've can all these things kind of work together, that
pretty damn good. Not great, but anyone who is like Blake,
even Doug Morone and others who came out critical of
of the new book out from Doug Peterson, remember that well.

(47:28):
Peterson was critical of the fact that the Jacksonville Jaguars
chose to take a knee in the a f C
Championship game with fifty nine seconds to go and the lead,
showing they didn't have faith in Blake Bortles. And I
understand that the Jaguars. Look, the Jaguars are in in
uh um, in enviable position of you have to defend

(47:54):
your guy, even if it's indefensible position. But they gave
him a new contract and they gave him more money.
This whole idea that Blake Bortles is somehow now good.
That narrative has died, died, done finished, all right, here's
another one. Remember when Tom Brady and Bill Belichick couldn't

(48:19):
exist anymore? I saw it on TV I heard on
radio that was all of the yakking going on during
the off season. Well, you know, when you watch Tom
Brady's Facebook show, he seems to not be getting the
respect he deserves. Well, you know when you read his
post and Malcolm Butler signs to the Tennessee Titans, when

(48:40):
you read in between the lines, he actually is supporting
Malcolm Butler not supporting Bill Belichick. Well you know when
they trade away Jimmy Garoppolo and trade away Jacoby bris
said Bill Belichick didn't want to do it. That was
because the two guys didn't get along, and or maybe
the Patriots knew they'd Brady still had plenty left in

(49:01):
the tank. The new rules prohibit anybody from coming anywhere
near the quarterback, and they weren't gonna be able to
resign Jimmy Garoppolo unless they franchise tagged. I mean, you
can't franchise tag a backup quarterback, let alone a starting
quarterback and put a field a team around you. They
did the best they could with two assets who they
were going to have to move anyway. That narratives died

(49:30):
very quietly and very quickly, and no one is should
should rightfully be discussing it today. No one, no one.
Oh yeah, the Malcolm Butler. Malcolm Butler was so was
done so wrong. Malcolm Butler is a shell of the
player that people used to believe that he was. My Heck,

(49:51):
even look at Nate Solder, who there were family reasons
why he left New England and went to New York
because of his child's health needs. But it's also the
fact that the Patriots a allowed him to walk out
the door. And then I I frankly would point out
the narrative about the Chargers. Oh, same old Chargers, same

(50:13):
old Chargers. They don't even have Joey Bossa and their
four and two. It'd be fair to say they were
disappointed against the Rams, then against the Chiefs. But you're
four and two and your best defensive player hasn't played
a snap yet. That narrative of the Chargers will never win.

(50:34):
The Chargers don't have home fielder because they don't have
home for advantage and they're the Chargers. Or maybe they
have really good players and a really good quarterback and
now that their offensive line is playing well, they're as
good as anybody in football. Look. I like narratives. I
like things that you can kind of see all coming

(50:54):
together to where people can nod their head. But oftentimes
when they die, people don't clear them completely dead. The
idea that the Chargers can't win because they're the Chargers.
That one died the Patriots, and the relationship between Belichick
and Brady was so fractured that it was beyond repair
and ultimately would come to a head on the football

(51:17):
field this this year. That has died, and so too
has the You guys got Blake Bortles all wrong? Oh
here's another one. I got one more. Jason Garrett is
gonna be the first coach fired. Jason Garrett can't coach
Jason Garrett. I heard Stephen A. Smith say this last weekend.
Last week the only reason Jason Garrett has a job

(51:40):
is because of his relationship with his owner. Now should
be pointed out anyone who downplays the relationship with the
owner is an idiot and has never worked with the
business for a business, Like, if you don't think the
relationship with your owner is important, you never worked for somebody.

(52:00):
Congratulations to Stephen A. Smith. I guess because they have
multiple bosses now and they've had changed bosses at ESP
But I guarantee he's got a relationship with his new
boss just like he had one with his old boss.
And when it's a guy who actually owns the company
and writes the check, you damn what better have a
relationship with him. Or it could be that they won

(52:21):
thirteen games two years ago, nine games last year, even
though they had a litany of injuries, in a suspension
of their best offensive player, and while working through things
with a quarterback who I believe is average at best
in the National Football League, Cowboys said at three and three,
and they just hung forty forty on the Jaguars forty

(52:41):
on the Jaguars. Didn't say he's an offensive genius or savante,
but the idea that because he didn't go for it
on the forty three yard line, which I saw a
coach to it yesterday in Miami. I saw Adam gateson
OFFENSI according to do the exact same thing in Miami
yesterday at the end of regulation, punted the football from

(53:04):
about this exact same spot. Because he did it, somehow,
he's gonna get fired. To advanced Joseph's gonna get fired,
not because of his relationship with his owner, not because
relationship with John Elway because they're not winning enough games.
And the equity that's been earned in Dallas is because,

(53:27):
with the exception of when Tony Romo and Dez Bryant
were both hurt a couple of years ago, they haven't
had a bad year and they've had a couple of
very good years. And now even with the limitations of
the talent around Zeke, they're still sitting there at three
and three with some great opportunities, although they have three
or four upcoming on the road, including Skins off a

(53:49):
big win, Eagles on the road, and Falcons on the road.
We'll see, all right. Michael Lombardi joins the show, up
coming next to the former general manager in the National
Football League. He worked for Bill Belichick and the Patriots.
Is it as simple as the Patriots have changed their
style and philosophy to being a run oriented team or

(54:10):
is there something else that has allowed the Patriots somehow
go from non competitive against the Jags and the Lions
to a juggernaut that can outscore the Kansas City Chiefs
and uh it, it feels like the Gruden experiment is
going oh so wrong. Is this just taking a couple

(54:31):
of steps back before trying to take a couple more forward.
We'll catch up with Michael Lombardi next. Be sure to

New Orleans Saints. They came up a bye weekend, got stumped.
Now they come back home on a short week and
they get the Carolina Panthers in their favored Figure that

(55:12):
out for me. I actually like Washington this game. I
think Washington whether obviously, I don't think that. I know
they've played a pretty four game um on Monday, and
I I can't excuse that game. It was bad, but
they still have I think in the blood average defense
they can rush the pass of their officive line is
really good. In the Panthers so far this year, you know,
they've won their three games you're supposed to win. They
lost the one game they weren't supposed to win. I

(55:33):
just don't really know what to make of the Panthers,
But I think the rest to go bounce back here.
Remember Alex Smith in general wins a lot of regular
season games, so more often than not, Washington, what will
be in these games? Go back home within and win
this weekend. If you missed anything from the Doug god

as simple as a click away. If you love this
league like I love this league and love learning about
building teams in this league, you pick up the book.
The author is a former general manager's names. Michael Lombardi
joins us weekly here on the Doug Outlip Show on
Fox Sports Radio. UM, give me a sense of your

(56:40):
take with with John Gruden. I know you worked with
Gruden in the past, and I know he felt like
they were that that that there was a rebuild job
needed in Oakland. But did he think they were going
to be this bad this soon? You know, Doug, I
think the reality here is he felt like he waited
a long time with take a job, you know, and

(57:01):
he had many offers. I mean, every year we had
the Grouten rumors we dealt with right. So last year
it was Tampa Bay. You know, probably had the sense
that it wasn't the right fit. Whether he liked Jameis
Winston as the starter or not, I don't know. But
I think a lot of what his decision came down
to decide the fact that he got a hundred million
for ten years, was the fact that he thought he
had a legitimate franchise quarterback in Derek Carr. And I

(57:23):
think after being in the organization for nine months or
ten months, I think that realization is different now, and
I think that he's got to sit there and look
at really what does he have? And really, when you
peel back the layers, cars never averaged over seven yards
per past attempt at his career. He has this, he
has this perception of being this mad bomber, you know,

(57:43):
the Daryla Monica of the New era. And yet he's
never thrown the ball down the field And the year
they went to the playoffs was his best year and
he averaged seven yards per attempts. So I think there's
a disconnected I think what John's finding out is where
that disconnect is. Yeah, I look, that was my takeaway.
Watch them like get the throw against the Dolphins, which
lost them the game. I had the exact same takeaway.

(58:05):
How much, remember there was a lot of hesitance. One
reason Houston passed on him twice was his brother, but
also the idea that maybe he's like his brother and
that he doesn't have he won't stand in there in
that that pocket, he won't step up and throw the
ball downfield. Instead, he'll do the Sam Bradford. How much
of it isn't just the association with his brother, but
the style that's still the same in avoiding the chance

(58:28):
of that big hit. Well, look, you can go back
and watch the USC game President State played in Sam
Boys Stadium in Las Vegas. Lane Kiffin was the head
coach of of the of USC at the time, and
I think, you know, they put a lot of pressure
on him, and I think that game was the reason
why he went from being perhaps the first round pick
to into the second round. There was concerns that and
it's always popped up. I mean, that's why he wasn't

(58:50):
the top ten pick in the draft. Arm strength, no question,
released wonderful, athleticism great, but I think it's ability to
make those throws down the field, stay in the pocket,
take the hit and keep going. You know, right now,
he's got that check down ability. The ball's a hot
potato in his hand. And then he makes mistakes when
he gets in the red area when the game speeds up.
You know, he's turned them all over three times in
the red zone. He can't put any points. Here's where

(59:11):
the key part comes in. You can talk all you
want about the Raiders rebuilding, but when you have a
franchise quarterback, you never rebuild, you repair. And they're talking rebuilding,
which he tells you all you need to know. So
what do they do? I mean, I mean outside of
get as many, get as much as you can for
all the other pieces. What do you do with car
That contracts not very old. It's not you can cut

(59:32):
him in the off season. No, And I think you
just gotta keep trying to find guys. You gotta find
your Deak Prescott and Foreth friend. You gotta find some
way all the stud your team needs. List went from
being a lot of things on defense and some offensive
lineman to to perhaps the quarterback. I mean, you're just
gonna have to dress it. The reality of the situation
is you're not gonna be You're not gonna be able
to win. You're dealing with Patrick Mahomes. I mean when

(59:52):
don't know he went home the last couple of nights
and he's lost his games. He saw Derek Golf yesterday,
didn't play great, But then he saw the week before,
he saw Sam Donald, the week before he saw Patrick Mahomes.
I mean, his team in Denver doesn't have a quarterback.
He's getting there with case Keenom. He's paid them eight
team million dollars as a GM. That's a hard thing
to understand. You can't beat you can't win your division

(01:00:15):
until you can beat the best team in your division,
who has the best quarterback? And if you don't have
an arm to match it, you lose the arms race?
What do you do Jacksonville. Look, Jacksonville has been in denial.
I mean we keep we keep banging this drum. I
mean I keep banging. And I called Blake Bortles equalizer,
the great equalizer because he's made every He's Jacksonville should
be the best team in the league, but he equalizes.

(01:00:36):
I mean, you just watched the game yesterday, and they
do everything in their power to not let Blake Bortles
get involved in the game. It's three plays first down,
three plays checked down here do that. They don't want
him to participate, and you're never winning a championship like that. Now,
their defense isn't playing to the level it needs to play,
which it looks like they're frustrated. It also looks like
they're not handling success very well. The details aren't cleaned up.

(01:00:59):
I mean, they did take Cole Beasley out of the
game today. Hey, look, if you're gonna beat the Dallas Cowboys,
you better take Cole Beasley away on third down and
handle him in the spot. They didn't do it. Doug
Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio. That's the voice of Michael Lombardi,
former NFL general manager. He's worked with uh and with
and for all of the big guys historically and run organizations.

(01:01:20):
Pick up his book Gridiron Genius and master Class and
Winning Championships and building dynasties in the National Football League.
Are you talked about Pat Mahomes. We saw kind of
that gun slinger through through a couple of picks, but
did come back and and stood down in New England defense.
Nearly one thing hung up forty on the Patriots, Um is,

(01:01:40):
how does this work once we get to when it
really matters? Right? Andy Reid has come up short in
the playoffs, some because of the talent of his quarterbacks,
but some because of his conservative nature. And then you
got my Homes, who's the opposite of that. How does
it evolve as the season goes on? Well, look, I
think he's gonna and he's gonna have to fix his defense.
What happened last night was from a couple I looked

(01:02:00):
at it the other way. I mean, if you're the Patriots,
you had no penalties, you never punted, you gained five
hundred yards, right, you did everything in your power to
win with your offense, and you had needed a last
second field goal to beat him. If that game has
played an arrowhead, I think Kansas City wins it. With
all that being said, with all that being said, that

(01:02:21):
the Patriots defense did the one thing they had to do.
I tweeted this out at the end of the third quarter.
Whoever punts in the fourth quarter was gonna lose. This
was you could appreciate this was a basketball game, up
and down the court, it was it was. It was
clearly a fast break game. New England had the time
of possession thirty six minutes. Do you realize in the
second half the Chiefs only had the ball for ten

(01:02:44):
minutes and scored thirty one points. That's three points a minute.
That's remarkable. That is flat out remarkable. However, that being said,
the Patriots found a way to win the game. The
Patriots gotta get better on defense. They're gonna have to
do some things, and once Kansas City gets some player
is back, I think they'll be better. I think the
lesson we also learned, Doug is that in the NFL today,

(01:03:04):
you're not gonna win with great defense. You're gonna win
with complimentary defense. Your defense has to complement your offense.
That's what the Patriots did in the first half. They
just couldn't do it in the second half. Michael Lombardi
joining us in the Doug Gotlips Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. UM. Aside from the fact that the Jags
are in denial, as you point out, and the defense
didn't take away Cole Beasley, what else did the Cowboys

(01:03:26):
figure out about their offense allowed them to put forty
points on the board? You know, well, I think they
let Dak Prescott get a little bit involved in the
run game in the Mississippi State program. I mean, Dak
Prescott's a really good athlete and his speak can get
guys open, and we're gonna see it tonight with Aaron Rodgers.
What he's able to do with his foot movement and
sliding in the pocket. His running ability is really strong,

(01:03:46):
and I think that's what they allowed them to do.
They created some place for them a little run pass
options that I think they've got to go back and
really watch the Mississippi State tape and get that involved
into what he's doing, because I think that will help
him more than anything. They don't half playmakers Tavon Austin
is not a playmaker. Tavon Austin is a specialty player.
You put him in the game, you run a play
a screen something to him, and then he comes out

(01:04:08):
of the game. What you have to do is run
an offense. And that's not what they do. Prescott's the
best skill player along with Zeke Elly, and you can
feature those two players in the run game and also
in the passing game, and I think that's what helps them. Um,
the l A Chargers go in and put thirty eight
on the board against a very good Cleveland defense. Offensive
lines playing well, Melvin Gordon has a Hunter and thirty

(01:04:29):
two on just eight teen carries, um and Philip Rivers
was was above average. And they're they're doing this without
Joey Bosa. Everyone has said the Chargers have talent, but
everyone also says, I'll believe it when I see it,
because well, it's the Chargers. Are we ready to buy
into the Chargers yet? You know, I was in one
of those whom buying in that the Browns are this
great defense. I mean, look, the Raiders have been able

(01:04:51):
to score since they play the Browns. Say you know,
I mean the Browns have a great player in Myles Garrett,
and I think Denzel Ward two cover. He's not a
great tackler, but he can cover really well. So I
think they've got some pieces. I think with Sandy, with
Los Angeles did to him yesterday, made the place down
the field. They handled them, and they forced them to
have to play from behind, which put the pressure on

(01:05:12):
Baker Mayfield, which all ultimately cost them the game. Their
offensive mind, the Cleveland Browns broke down. I thought what
Anthony Lynn said after the game was appropriate. It was honest,
it was it was what I'm thinking. He said, we
made it through the game without missing an extra point
of field goal. Really, that's calls for celebration in Los
Angeles if you're a Charger fan, because special teams, when
it gets down to these coast games, you can't give

(01:05:33):
away a point, and that's what the Chargers do. I'm
not buying the Browns win as a signature win. I'm
waiting for them to go beat Kansas City or beat Denver,
somebody that they usually don't win against, and that'll tell
me they're a good team. It's a fair point. They
got London, then they gotta come come back and got
they gotta go to Seattle, got a couple of the
big road games upcoming. Tampa loses fires Mike Smith. Is

(01:05:54):
that their problem? Well, look, I don't think Tampa is
a very good team defensively. I think they've been bad.
I mean, Mike Smith is a one dimensional defense coordinated
plays a lot of his own a lot of easy
throws you can find within his defense. He tries to
play discipline. They don't. They can't rush the passer. You know,
they don't tackle very well. I think these problems are
bigger than just firing Mike Smith. I think, Mike Smith,
if you're gonna fire Mike Smith, why don't you fire

(01:06:16):
him on the bye week? Getting to get a new
system and have a week to put it in place,
at least in the meeting rooms, instead of trying to
rush through it now. I think it's a challenge for them.
I think this is not a very well coached team
in Tampa Bay. There's too many issues. There's too many
details that don't get finalized. A little bit like the Redskins.
I thought the Redskins would beat Carolina yesterday only because
the Redskins play little level of comp They never they

(01:06:36):
never have any consistency or any attention to detail, and
I think that's Tampa as well. Um, the Titans suddenly
they go from three and one to three and three
and they get embarrassed at the hands of at the
hands of Baltimore, and their offensive line looked in shambles.
How much of it is on Mariota, how much of
it's on the line. Well, look, I've never bought into
the Titans. The Titans to me have always been a

(01:06:57):
team that you have to lose before they can him.
You know, the Eagle game was an admiration. I just
don't understand how that happened because the Eagles don't cover anybody.
But essentially, when the when the Titans play at home,
the last eight team games, they've only turned the ball
over seventeen times. They avoid losing. Yesterday, they just couldn't
avoid too many sacks, can't get the ball out, they
have no great skill players, and Baltimore just really took

(01:07:18):
it to him. And then what really was problematic is
Tennessee's defense. I mean, they're going against Joe Flacco, whose
quarterback ratings sixty four. When he says his pressure everybody
Brett blitz his Joe Flacco forces him to throw the ball,
especially on third down when he all of a sudden
doesn't play as fast. And yesterday, for whatever reason, Dean Piece,
who's practiced against Joe Flacco most of his career when

(01:07:39):
he was in Baltimore, decided not to do it, and
Flacco was sensational on third down yesterday and made a
difference in the game. I think that whole South, to me,
there's not a strong team. I thought it was Jacksonville
at one time. I'm not sure it is them. I
still think they're the best overall team. But for me,
I don't think Tennessee is a playoff team, even though
they went to one last year. And Houston can't wait
to give games away. They just couldn't get one yesterday

(01:08:01):
to the Buffalo bill right and and and they got
a gift from Indie going back two weeks ago, and
maybe one from Dallas going back last week. And yet
here they are kind of hanging around. Fascinating fasting stuff.
Great stuff from Michael Lombardi. Michael, you teach us something
every week about the league. Appreciate it, and we'll have
people pick up your book. Thanks for joining us. That's
Michael Lombardi Gridiron Genius is the book. Pick it up.

(01:08:22):
Let's get you to dan Fire, where we're hours away
from n L d S Game three. It's just weird
to see the Brewers in the n l D y
S from Sorry and I'll see. But yeah, it is
unique and considering and then we're looking ahead and guessing.
But you could have an Astros Brewers World Series. Yeah.

(01:08:43):
One was a Nashley teen win. It was an American y. Yeah,
and for a period of time division rivals, So that
would be uh, that would be interesting. But we're a
long ways from Matt Brewers and Dodgers coming up on
Fox Sports one four Game three at six thirty Eastern time.
You at least try seen pitches four. Mille Hockey Walker
Bueller goes for l A. The lineups have been announced.

(01:09:04):
Mac munths Max Munsey that is is gonna bat second.
Justin Turner is going to bat third for the Turner
I mean, the Justin Turner story is incredible. You there's
there's guys that are heart and souls of teams and
and that that's what when he was out with the Dodgers,
they had no life. And as soon as he came
back suddenly they were contenders. Yeah, and you knew that

(01:09:25):
he was going to have something in Game two because
he had an awful Game one, and of course then
hits the home run in Game two to give the
Dodgers the lead for good. So he's gonna bat third tonight.
Brewers making a minor change with their line up. Travis
Shaw is gonna play second. That's not the change. He's
gonna bat clean up tonight for Milwaukee's Husagular is gonna
beat fifth for the Brewers again. Coverage at Fox Sports
one six thirty Eastern time. We'll get to you some

(01:09:46):
football news in a sect, but want to tell you
the Sons have signed former guard Jamal Crawford to a
contract or free agent guard Jamal Crawford to a contract.
According to The Athletic, the Thunder are really Russell Westbrook
out for tomorrow's opener against Golden Not much of yes,
but I want to see. I'm so selfish. I want
to see. I want to see them against Russell Westbrook's
not playing against the Golden State Warriors. Come on, yeah,

(01:10:07):
I know, I know, But Billy Boston. There's Billy Boston.
The double header. It's a crazy week. It's it's really
a great week in sports. Yeah, NBA starting to morrow,
Baseball and obviously football. You mentioned college football earlier. It
is funny for it's crazy of a week, and it was.
It did kind of get lost in the shuffle from
what was a crazy Sunday in the NFL like Kings

(01:10:29):
stiest thing that happened in the weekend in college football,
your opinion, go Notre Dame survived, State pummeled West Virginia
with a freshman quarterback Brock Purty who's now one at
Oklahoma State, and beating West Virginia at home. Um, Oregon
beats Washington, Georgia l s U George Ellous. You see

(01:10:49):
survives against Memphis, comes from behind and survives against me. Yeah,
you had that. USC pummels Colorado. People were picking Colorado
to win on the road. I'll tell you, I'll tell
you what I was gonna say. Jinnia beats the I'll
save this for the press that Colorado coach Mike McIntire
didn't know they scored a touchdown on a play and
thought they were running a play first in goal and

(01:11:10):
it was actually a two point conversion. Now they were
down by double digits late in the fourth quarter. No,
the p a announcer at the coliseum actually announced that
it was first in goal. No ref came over to
say that they had scored, so he thought they were
running a first in goal play when it was thirty
one to twenty, and then they go for two to
cut the lead to nine. They ended up not getting it,

(01:11:30):
But yeah, so that that that may have been the
craziest um and Michigan maybe the best team in the
Big Ten. You could have that right now. Ohio State
struggled against Minnesota despite being unbeaten in Michigan looked really
good against Wisconsin. Uh In the NFL, Bill's quarterback Josh
Allen weeked a week with an elbow injury. Buccaneers today
fire defensive coordinator Mike Smith after two plus seasons. Vikings

Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio talk to some of
the Chargers people today, and Uh, they weren't as down
on Baker Mayfield as I think the common fan would be.
They're like, look, Baker Mayfield can throw the ball down
the middle of the field very very well. It's got
quick eyes, he's got a good arm, steps up in
the pocket. But because he's small, they kind of built
a wall, made him throw trying may throw outside the

(01:12:38):
hash and they they also got to him. But um, look,
it's just the more you play in the NFL, the
more they get a book on you, and the more
they will make you look ordinary if they can. That's
kind of what's happened to Baker Mayfield. Who wasn't he
came in against who said, hey, look, if we knew
he was gonna play, we would have done a better

(01:12:59):
job instant What it was the Jets, right, Yeah, it
was Jets, And wasn't it was the Jamal Adams who
said that I'm trying to think of yeah. I think
was Jamal Adams like, look, if we knew he was
gonna play, we would have had and that this is
that's basically what he means. The Chargers knew. They actually
they have got a lot of respect for Baker and

(01:13:20):
his offensive line wasn't great. He wasn't great. That They
also remember, to start the year they had this vaunted
wide receiving group, but that was with Josh Gordon and
they've jettison Josh Gordon and so now outside of Jarvis Landry,
they don't They seem to have a lack of playmakers.
But as the book comes out on Baker Mayfield, keep

(01:13:43):
in the pocket, make him throw outside the hashes and
and build a wall in front of him because he
can't see over because he's little. It seems to work,
which is and that's this is not just being solely
critical of Baker Mayfield. It's more the idea of in
the short term, you see a guy, you see what
he does, You're like, oh, that's what it's gonna be. Look,

(01:14:04):
I talk to an NFL personnel guy this week was like,
the Deshaun Watson thing is not gonna work. I'm not
gonna work because you can't make him into a true
dropback pass or he's not the athlete he was since
he tore the A c L And you have to
be a guy who can process your reads, have quick eyes,

(01:14:25):
and we I just just don't. There's the reason they
went to the more college offense last year is that's
the one he can succeed in. Much like r G three.
He is r G three two point. Oh Mayfield, I wouldn't.
I wouldn't bail on Mayfield just because he has a
game against a pre damn good defense that played really well,

(01:14:46):
that had a good game play against. I wouldn't. But
it does give you a sense of what people are
going to do in the future. Man, we got a
lot to get to. Weird The Lakers don't play until
like Friday night. It feels kind of like a miss
from the NBA, doesn't. They don't play until they're on
the road against the Portland Trail Blazers. That just seems

(01:15:08):
like a weird one to to open the season. I know,
opening the season doesn't really matter, right, Like who cares
the open the season against? Everybody forgets it's a Thursday night.
Excuse me? It is a triple headed night, though Bull
seventy six is Heat Wizards and then Lakers Trailblaziers from
Portland the Motor Center. I like to be there for that. One.

(01:16:02):
every day. This time we'd like to play for you
a portion a portion of one of the other shows
on Fox Sports One or Fox Sports Radio. We call
it nos colln Cowherdler Today on the Raiders. In the NFL,
you rarely get trapped with a terrible contract. This is
why the NFL is the sport of hope. It has

(01:16:24):
always been the sport of hope. There is one NFL team, though,
that is trapped. It's the Raiders. John Gruden ten years,
a hundred million. This is the poorest NFL franchise. It
is in terms of revenue. They cannot boot him after
a year, pay him ninety million dollars and then go
pay another five for another guy. They can't even pay
top dollar for coordinators. Now they are trapped. Now they're

(01:16:45):
looking to trade Amari Cooper. They don't know where they're
playing next year, Vegas. Eventually, we are pretty sure for
men in pro sports, it is remarkable how desperation creeps
in the best organizations let the top players go, are

(01:17:07):
reluctant assigning great players and coaches along deals. Yeah, I
don't actually think Collins got it here. Do I think
they're happy where they are and how they're playing? The
answer is no, absolutely not. On the other hand, um,
I also think it's fair to say that in in
pro sports, and we've seen this in basketball, and we've

(01:17:29):
seen it in baseball, and I'm surprised that we haven't
seen it more in football. It's better to be really
bad and have a bunch of half space than to
be okay and have a little bit of cap space. Right,
That's been their plan and the Amari Cooper, the idea
that Amari Cooper only now is becoming available. Look, they

(01:17:50):
picked up his fifth year option, and now they're trying
to move him. Is he worth the thirteen million he'd
be out if they held onto him. No, but he
would get a new contract with somebody Else's going to
try and acquire him and then find a way to
renegotiate with him if they can find a taker for
that deal. The idea is they're gonna have a bunch
of cast space over the next couple of years. He

(01:18:11):
didn't like what they have. He's trying to build a
consistent winner. He's got plenty of time to do so,
and he thought he was building around Derek Carr. The
only disappointing thing is that Derek Carr is not as
good as I think he thought or people thought. That's
the surprising for um. All right, I want to play
for you two calls thirty years ago today, thirty years ago,

(01:18:34):
so Ryan Music wasn't even live, Um, John Ramos, thirty
years ago to day? Where were you watching Game one
of the World Series at home with my parents? We're
at home. Yeah. Where do you live? South Pasada, California,
South Pasatian Great Area, South Pasatida, Great San Ramono, South

(01:18:55):
Pastian Beautiful Areas? Um, you were you actually stirring the
silver spoon in your tea when you were when you
were when you were watching, No, I was had both
of my hands together just like this. So you're praying. Yes, Okay,
Dan Buyer, thirty years ago today, you were like what seven,
eight years old or whatever? I was eleven? Okay, I

(01:19:17):
mean I told you have a young face. Um. Where
were you? Um? I would have just been I don't
know was it a weekend or a week day, but
the weekend Okay, yeah, I would have been in sixth
grade in hometown from Meryl, Wisconsin. Were you watching? Is this?
Is this as big a moment to a kid in
Wisconsin as it was the two kids like me and you?

(01:19:37):
But I do remember one of my best friends when
I was younger was an A's fan, you know, jumping
on that bandway Yeah, the Bash Brothers bandwagon. Yes, yes,
the Bash Brothers. They had Dnnis Secrecy was their closer.
He won the he won the Cy Young Award. Cy
Young not just role Aid's best reliever, the best pitcher
in baseball. And they had the Bash Brothers McGuire and

(01:19:59):
jose Kinsake. I was at Miles Simon's mom's house. Okay,
we're watching in kind of like their their little TV room.
We're watching and Kirk Gibson gets inserted as a pinch
hitter into at the plate and he comes hobbling an
he has a bad hamstring. And Miles Simon, who's went
on to be the m op of the Final Four

(01:20:19):
now he's an assistant coach with the Lakers, turns of me.
He says, Jibby's gonna hit home run. And I was like,
and this is after like his first swing in which
he looks like a hundred year old man. And I
was like, get Addie, here's like watch it's gonna happen.
Any battles, And he battles, and he battles. There's one
runner on against the guy who seemed impervious. Let me
play for you, both cuts, kay. Vince Scully was doing

(01:20:40):
the national TV broadcast and Jack Buck was doing the
national radio broadcast. First, let's do Jack Bucks call swings
and a fly ball to the bright tail. That's gonna
be all unbelievable. I don't believe what I tell so

(01:21:01):
I don't believe what I just saw on the TV side.
Here's the great Vince Scully who laid out and then
it was almost poetic how he just how he described
it in a year that it has been so improbable,

(01:21:25):
the impossible has happened, and now the only question was
could he make it around the base paths on assisted? Amazing? Right,
I still get chills listen. It's one of the five
greatest sports moments of my life. And though I grew
up in southern California, I'm not gonna sit here untill
you was a Dodger fan. I went to Game two.
It had no juice at all because Oral hirsh Eyes.

(01:21:47):
That was when it was the Bulldog year when he
went like fifty four straded things about allowing a run.
Ryan Music as probably one of the first times you've
heard those calls back to back. Which do you think
was better? I'll go with Vince Skully there. Yeah. When
you grew up in southern California, pro almost you go
within I will. But I think they're both iconic. They
are both iconic because because one described this how just

(01:22:10):
the immediate I don't believe what I just saw was
exactly what I was thinking. I don't believe what I
just I don't believe you believe yourself. I don't believe
what I just saw. And then only Vin can go
in a season that has given us the improbable, the
impossible has just happened. Buyer, which one do you prefer? Uh?
As John said, they they are both. They are both great.

(01:22:31):
I hear more people recite the Vin Scully one so well.
And that's the thing about the Dodgers, Like Dodger fans
know that call, and that's the one that they recite. Yeah,
I'm not even a Dodger fan, and I know that called.
That was That's one of the five greatest sports moments.
Send in your five best sports moments of your life.
And as much as you're like, well, I have to
think about no, they're not that great if you can't

(01:22:52):
think in your own database. It's the ones that just
like I remember where I was when that happened. This
is you know, I remember where I was when the
challenger just aster happened. I remember when I was when
the levees broken Katrina, when Obama was elected, I remember that.
Remember what it was when Trump was elected. These are
seminal big moments. Whatever your reaction to him was in sports,

(01:23:12):
this is one of my five thirty years ago, and
we're getting old. I mean, you guys are getting old.
I'm I'm the same age. I'm still I'm still a
twelve year old boy. Uh in my Buddy, in my
Buddy's House. Brought to you by Discover Card. We treat
you like you'd treat you. You knew it was gonna happen.
You didn't want to believe it was gonna happen, but

(01:23:35):
you knew it was gonna happen, even though you didn't
want to believe it was gonna happen, because it always
seems to happen. Say what it is? Next to the

What Up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Do Do
Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do
Do Do Do Do Do Do do I'm convinced that
we have issues with authority, right, we just have this
issue with authority. I mean we've always had it as

(01:24:18):
kids not liking the principle, but now it's gone to
we don't like up revs. Umpires, side judges, line judges, commissioners, presidents,
congress people, obviously league offices. I mean like, look, some
people have abused their power in churches in uh, you know,

(01:24:41):
just you know what's it called absolutely's say, absolute power corrups. Absolutely.
So I understand some of it, but not all of it.
But but I I think it's the we We challenge
these powers constantly, and I understand that we we think

(01:25:02):
the league is evolving into this was becoming a player's league. No,
it's not. It does not. The league is not changing.
The NFL is not evolving in terms of the importance
of anyone player or the personalities that break free from
a helmet. That's not the case. People will tell you
that it's because they haven't studied the history of the game.
They're denying that history, the history of that game. That's

(01:25:27):
what it is. I mean, we what Mark Gastineau wasn't
a huge name, a huge personality, Lyle allows Zato, Dion Sanders,
Bo Jackson, Walter Payton, sweetness. There's been different levels of these.

(01:25:47):
There are guys that have gotten out behind the face mask,
Michael Irvin, the playmaker. But what so so we've seen
This pattern of guys wanting attention and getting attention and
making a second career for themselves work for them. But

(01:26:09):
I would also tell you that what generally works in
the National Football League is when you have a front
office who understands what makes them successful and continues to evolve,
not afraid to get rid of big name players as
they they're not as useful or not used in the

(01:26:31):
system that they were previously able to operate within. Right
like the Tampa two has gone away for the most
part because of how teams are playing, not completely the
pure you know, we don't have I formations and fullbacks
aren't as useful, although they are still used. But I

(01:26:54):
think that the anti Patriots mantra some comes from players
who feel like it it suppresses salaries. Some I think
feel like they rule with an iron fist, and in
some way it it has them thinking of what it
was like to go to school when the teacher, the

(01:27:16):
headmaster ruled with that same iron fist. This is one
of those Hey, it's it works, this this does in
fact work. Andy Reid has a thing he says with
his teams where he said, hey, this is time tested,
you can we can try new things. But this way

(01:27:37):
of doing so is time tested, and it's work time
and again, and the Patriots thing it has worked. It
feels like they're one step ahead of everybody else, doesn't it.
When Tom Brady first came in the league, and then
early on his career, you know, they had they added
Corey Dillon because they needed a big name running back.

(01:27:59):
But then after and went away, they went really without
a great runner. There were times there were years in
which they would rather throw to you know, on third
down it was they'd rather throw it out quick to
Wes Welker, and then eventually Aaron Hernandez and now Rob Gronkowski.

(01:28:19):
But think about it, in the league which has become
so past dominant, what have the Patriots figured out? Teams
set themselves up so defensively they can stop teams that
passed fifty times a game, right, and and short quick

(01:28:42):
drives in which you throw the ball out wide or
you get the ball to talented wide receivers. Look around
the league and the NFL resembles in many ways big
twelve offenses and big twelve defenses. So the Patriots run
the football. Nobody else runs it, We're going to run it. Oh,

(01:29:02):
don't get us wrong. We still have Gronk and now
we've added in Edelman, and when healthy, we have Josh Gordon,
and we figured out a way to make that work
with Chris Hogan and all those other pieces. But the
way to create mismatches for our guys is to run
the football to get that eighth man the box. If
you don't, we're gonna keep running it. And if you do,

(01:29:23):
now of a sudden, you leave yourself open in the
back end. We can be deniers of the Patriots and
say that this is the year, but they didn't punt
last night. And yeah, they gave up a ton of
yards and they gave up forty points, but they won
the game. They just figure out a way. They made

(01:29:49):
a couple of big plays when they had to, they
got a couple of turnovers when they needed to, and
when the game was tied, they did what only the
Patriots can do. Go from one Hall a Fame kicker
to another Hall of Fame kicker. Right, some teams, it's inexplicable,
inexplicable some of these teams inability to get a kicker.

(01:30:11):
I've told you, guys, I'm a Chargers fan, and it
doesn't matter how much research they do and how much
money they spend, it feels like like they got Caleb Searches.
They try to get uh Cody Parkey, who ends up
siding with the Bears after having a good year with
the Dolphins. By the way, he missed a kick that
could have won the game for the Bears in overtime
yesterday against the team that saw him walk out the door.

(01:30:32):
But it's not for lack of trying. Charges are trying
to fix it ten times over since Nate Hating retired.
They haven't been able to do it. Whereas the Patriots,
they go from one great kicker to the next. You
almost feel like whoever replaces Stephen Gotzkowski is gonna be
awesome too, because that's what the Patriots do. But man,

(01:30:53):
sunrise in the east and sets in the west in
the a f C runs through New England and it
and you can sit there and tell me Exonville whooped him?
They did that. They lost the Detroit Lions. They did.
But we told you they'd figure it out. We told
you eventually they get entlemen back and that would change things.
We told you they get just enough plays, just enough stops,

(01:31:16):
And I even took the Kand City Chiefs last week,
and one because of the line, but I one because
I'm like, look, the Chiefs, they just have so much speed.
It feels like a bad matchup for the Patriots. They
can even win with bad matchups. Who does that? The Patriots?
That's who You knew it was gonna happen. You didn't
want to believe it, but you just knew it was
gonna happen. And now you're like, Okay. And whether it's

(01:31:40):
there's some sort of authority or the way in which
it feels like Belichick is a dictator, whatever it is
you or maybe it's just their fans, but everybody has
fans that are jerks. I found this is not college
football where Nebraska fans give you a standing ovation when
you beat their team. This is not Iowa or people
have incredibly huge arts at Iowa. I was stated Iowa,

(01:32:02):
where they give they stand up and they waved to
kids who are suffering from cancer at the end of
a quarter. No, No, this is the NFL. You got
some of the lowest common denominator who find their way
in the stands, drink excessively before the games and give
a finger and throw a beer at a football player.
All every group of fans has bad people in it.

(01:32:24):
We we like what's new and what's fresh. But the
the Patriots of the Honda accord man, so they are
hand accord man. When I was when I was in
high school, my mom had an the court and when

(01:32:45):
I got a chance to get my first car, I
got a Camaro, and then got a Blazer, and then
I got a enough one fift. My mom still gets
a Chords still has them. Used to be made in Japan,
now they're made in like Ohio. They're great. They just
keep running and running and they never break and they
don't lose much value. And they kind of restyle them,

(01:33:07):
but the styling is still kind of playing. But you
know what, he gets you from point A to point B.
You have to drive miles a year. You can do
a whole hell of a lot worse. They might not
win Car and Driver's Car of the Year every year,
but they're always gonna be under five or ten best Patriots.

(01:33:27):
NFL insider jew Jason lack Campford joins the show up
coming next, we'll ask him, is there any way in
which the Jags could get another quarterback? I mean contractually
doesn't feel like it's a possibility, But I don't know
is there any way out of it? Um? We gotta
ask what's on with Levyan Bell? Steelers were supposed to

(01:33:49):
meet with Levy on Bell earlier today. Did that meeting
actually happened? If so, what was discussed? And? Uh, how
secure is Vance Joseph's head coach to the Denver Broncos.
Sure feels like that ice is shaky. NFL Inside of

Doug Golip Show, Fox Sports Radio. He's an NFL inside
for CBS Sports. You can check him out on their
pregame show Inside the NFL. You can also read his
work at CBS Sports dot Comer follow him on Twitter.
He's Jason law canfora Jason, Let's start with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Um water is wet um, the sunrise in the eastern
sets in the west, and the Steelers are gonna beat

(01:34:54):
the since Denny Bengals. These things we know. But they
were supposed to meet with Levy on Bell earlier today.
He did that meeting actually take place, Yeah, I didn't never.
I don't know of any meeting that was supposed to
take place. I mean, they they have no idea when
he's showing up. Neither he nor his agent has given
them any word about when that would happen. Players were
supposed to report at two pm for a meeting today.

(01:35:17):
He was not in the building for that meeting, and
I talked to somebody there an hour ago. He wasn't
in the building. They don't have any sense that he's
showing up tomorrow or you know, I guess there were
reports of week seven. I mean that's you know that
they have no idea. I mean, when that ESPN report
came out about week seven or maybe week gate, they
called his agent. His agent said, I wouldn't read too

(01:35:38):
much into it. I don't know what he's gonna do.
So I mean your guests is as good as anybody's
at this point. Um, I suspect he may maybe maybe
doesn't come back. If he doesn't, if he truly doesn't
want to be traded, then I don't know why he
would sign that thing before week So for people who

(01:35:59):
don't know, Okay, he's a franchise taggy, but he can't
be traded unless he signs the franchise tender, which he
is not yet signed right so he actually has he
can Actually it's basically a no trade clause. He can
say like, look, I don't wanna be trade to them
and play for them because you know, you know, I'm
gonna be an appending free agent, and so he cannot

(01:36:20):
sign until after weekend. Right now, they could They could
agree to terms on the trade and give that the
team that would acquire him permission to speak to him,
and then they could say, look, dude, here's the deal.
You know, let's face it, it's gonna be the Eagles
or some contending team. We want you to come in.
We'll we'll we'll pay you. If you have to work
out for a week on a roster examption, we don't

(01:36:41):
care about that, but we need you to sign this
thing and we need to get this trade done. And
if he says, well, I don't want to play for you,
then they're like, okay, fine, but we're gonna call every
team in the league and be like, okay, not only
did he not play half the season with the Steelers,
you know, but then he had a chance to come
and win a ring with us, and he said no
to that too, So you're going to sist magically destroy
what's left of your market value. I would think he

(01:37:03):
would come to his senses at that point, But who knows.
Do do the Eagles want him or do they want
Jady McCoy. Well, I think both at a certain price.
I think they'd prefer McCoy because he's making eight a
year and he's signed for one more year and he's
been there before, YadA, YadA, YadA. But McCoy isn't really available,

(01:37:26):
you know. Like I mean, if you want to just
keep calling the Bills and like you make them an
offer they can't refuse. Okay, fine, but you could go
get Levion Bell for a third round pick, like and
if you think you're winning the Super Bowl, it's basically
a compensatory pick. And if you let Levian Bell walk
at the end of the year, you get the third
round compensatory pick depending on what else you do in
free agency. Come So I still I you know, I

(01:37:50):
think the path of least resistance will end up being
Levian Bell, And so I wouldn't I wouldn't preclude it.
Now if he says I don't want to come play
for you, then you know whatever, than I don't know,
Maybe you you call on Marshawn Lynch or or you know,
somebody else. But I just think Levian Bell makes a
lot of sense there. What about the Oakland Raiders? Is

(01:38:11):
the fire sailing fact on? Yeah, it is. Um they
obviously just arrived back from London and they've got a
lot going on there. But Jon Gruden has made it
very clear that if Reggie Mackenzie drafted you, there's a
pretty good chance you're not a part of our future.
Um though draft class is more or less off limits.
But I think he'd listen on anything else. And I

(01:38:33):
mean there's certain guys they just outright want to move,
And I think it all comes to it's its culmination
sometime probably around the combine when he trades Derek Carr,
and I think at that point, he will have the
you know, torn it down, and it'll almost be like
the Houston Astros rebuilding baseball or the seventies Sixers rebuilt.

(01:38:53):
He will have torn it down to the studs. He
will be in a position to control a couple of
NFL drafts, and he'll be able to get the quarterback
of his choosing, and he'll probably sign a veteran too
to be a stop gap until they get to Vegas,
and the process will be a foot of trying to
have a young team that's starting to make its move
when they when they get to Nevada. That's interesting you

(01:39:14):
mentioned trading Derek Carr. Was that his plan originally, because
because I I almost feel like this is Plan B,
that Plan A was to build around Derek Carr. And
and yet Derek Carr's exposed himself to Gruden is not
being as good as Gruden thought or did did he
never truly buy in? No, I think he came in
with an open mind and and you obviously saw things

(01:39:36):
earlier in his career. I think before he got hurt,
where this looked like an ascending player and someone who
could be a franchise quarterback. And that's I'm not gonna
and I don't think he's damaged good. Um, I think
he may never hit the heights that that some thought
he could, but he's a winning quarterback. I mean. I
was talking to some personal guys this afternoon, some who
may be in the market for a quarterback in a year,

(01:39:56):
and a lot who aren't. And most seem to think
that it's he's healthy, he's He's not in that first
tier of five to six guys. He's not in that
second tier of five to six guys, but he's somewhere,
you know, twelve to eighteen, and you win with those guys.
You know what I mean? Is he is he Andy Dalton?
Slightly better? Probably he's you know, Kenn you have a
better career than Alex Smith. Yeah, well Alex Smith won

(01:40:18):
a lot of games and made a lot of money. Um,
got traded a couple of times. So I think there's
a market for those guys, and I think he's someone
they could probably still get a first round pick for
after like, like, wouldn't it make all the sense in
the world that the New York Giants trade for Derek
Carr after the season. Do you think you want to
get a quarterback, now, you know what I mean. And
let's say they can't get the guy they want because

(01:40:40):
Oakland sitting there at wont and he gets the pick
of the litter. Like it's clearly I don't want to rebuild,
and they're trying to keep their fan base engaged. And
Odell's in his prime right now, and you've got to
move tight end and you've got a dominant running back
and you've got, um, you know, a complimentary wide receiver.
It's like, go trade for Derek Carr. You don't want

(01:41:00):
you don't want a rookie. It's clear that Mary doesn't
want a rookie. Let's let's let's get to the New
York Giants. Um. I saw that you wrote earlier today
that there's a level of unhappiness brewing always some players
and coaches with the New York Giants. Uh why now
with Eli, it felt like, oh, it's been going on
for a while, but now it's just that critical mass,
you know what I mean, Because now it's another season,

(01:41:22):
Like it's you know, like he can look good in
shorts and pads and like everybody can try to drink
the kool aid and pretend it's not as bad as
it is, and if you're a player, that's all you
can do, because you, like Odell Beckham, couldn't go knock
on the owner's office while he's trying to get a
contract and saying, oh, by the way, Eli's washed. And
we've known he's washed. He's been washed for three years.
Like mcadoon knew he was washed, you know what I mean,

(01:41:44):
Like a lot of people knew he was washed. But
he's the owner's boy, and he's kind of untouchable. And
when the owner finally agreed to sit him last year
boy after one week and getting ripped in the media
and by the fans because of the way they did it.
It wasn't so much that they did it. It was
sort of the callous, backwards sort of way did it.
Didn't They call him in and say, hey, look, we're

(01:42:05):
not gonna pull you. We're just we're gonna play guys
in the second We're gonna play with their guys in
the second half. The messaging, everything was ridiculous. I mean,
the whole way it was handled was botched. And then
they got crushed and then the owners like, damn, I
gotta send out my you know, my renewals for sponsorships
and and suites and season tickets here pretty soon, like
what are we doing? And boy David's Webb's really not

(01:42:28):
ready and will Gino didn't look great, although it was
one game on the road at Oakland and they panicked
and they flicked the switch back the other way, and
you know, they they conned themselves into thinking, well, if
we just build them up with a running game and
an offensive line, with the pass catchers we have, we'll
be fine. And they passed on another round of of quarterbacks,
maybe a generational one. So yeah, there's been frustration there

(01:42:50):
for a while. And when these guys were sitting there
texting each other at night, like you see what my
homes did? You see what Watson did? You know what
I mean, you see what Carson Wentz did? You see?
You know, you see what Jared Goff did. And you're
stuck with a guy who doesn't want to throw it
downfield anymore. Who who's getting people almost destroyed on screen
passes and who's chucking and ducking. I mean, that's that's

(01:43:13):
what it is, and it's not pretty. Jason luckem for
a CBS Sports joining us Doug Gotlip Show, Fox sports radio.
Let's go to Jacksonville, where I proposed last year. Last
year Week five, I said, I thought Eli was washed,
but um I thought if there's one guy you could
convince there's still something to get out of it, it
would be Tom Coughlin. Now I think that ship is

(01:43:34):
sailed right now. But but not only is that Chips
sailed that even Coughlin knows he doesn't have it, but
they also re up with Blake Bortles. So what do
you do if you're Jacksonville When you do get Leonard
for net back, they're stuck. You can't go back in time.
The Broncos can't go back in time and say wow
instead of given you know, case Keenum thirty six million bucks,
let's just draft a quarterback in the top five. The

(01:43:56):
Giants can't go back in time, and the Jags can't
go back in time and say, wow, we should have
we should have really got in on Cousins, or we
should have at least got Bridgewater, or damn even Tyrod
Taylor is better than Blake Bortles, you know, like they
did none of that. I mean, we go to to
Kestler is their backup quarterback. They didn't even pretend that
they were trying to have someone there to compete with

(01:44:19):
Blake Bortles. I mean, so now you get what you
pay for. I mean, he's the last four games. Is
QB rating is seventy five point five one the first
half of their last three losses, Doug he's got a
quarterback rating below fifty. Now your defense flips a little
bit and you can't run the ball, so everybody knows
you can't play from behind. So you just need a

(01:44:39):
quarterback to at least not bleep it up. Well, when
you're second in the league in turnovers, you're bleeping it up.
And when you can't get off to a decent start
and now you're down by two scores and everybody knows,
get up on them nothing, and it's lights out. People
are gonna be testing that defense early and they're gonna
be trying to hit a chunk play because that's really
all you need. Get up, tend nothing. They can't get
off the mat. That's who they are. That's who Blake

(01:45:00):
Portles is. He's the thirty fourth rank passer in the
NFL since he came into the league, right behind Brian
Hoyer and right in front of Trevor Simeon. The only
question is why is he an NFL starter not boys?
Should they have given him an extension or is he
is you know, should he be starting on a team
that thinks it's Super Bowl caliber? He should be fighting
for his job every day with a Josh McCowen or

(01:45:22):
a Chase Daniel or who dare I say it, Jason
lacampfora joining us on the doug Otlip Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. Man, so much stuff to get to
last night in New England, absolute shootout. NFL gets to
everything they want to, like see, we want to hand
touch football because it gives us forty three forty And

(01:45:42):
I think a lot of the narrative narrative is Patrick
Mahomes the new gun slinger. My takeaway is, hey, MD,
that narrative about the Patriots and not getting along and
all that, Like, yeah, you know what they figured out.
They got Sony Michelle will run the football, will hold
the ball. Uh, we'll, we'll, we'll figure out how to
make it work when we get Edelman back. They got
Josh Gordon working with some of the other guys. Like

(01:46:04):
I don't know, Like I just I'm done counting out
the Patriots, especially not in September when they have so
much time to reinvent themselves and add a few pieces.
And look, nobody works the trade deadline like Belichick. Now,
I might just end up being, you know, a barkeebious
mingo type. Although what he got van Noy at the deadline,
and that worked in his favor. Nobody in New England's

(01:46:26):
crying over Jamie Collins, you know what I mean? Anymore,
he worked that trade, so he still probably has another
trick up his up his sleeve. But those guys are
still cold assassin's. I mean, guys getting in their feelings
and trying in their corn flakes is not gonna be
what brings down that dynasty. It's gonna be too thick
if Tom Brady gets hurt and hits the wall, or

(01:46:46):
Bob Kraft hands the team over to Jonathan Craft, in
which case people will be jumping off that ship left
and right. But other than that, it's not gonna be
the Brady didn't get enough stars on his helmet in practice,
or oh Bill's not you know, hugging me enough this year.
These dudes are all about one thing, and it's holding
that trophy at the end of the year. Tonight, we're
gonna see the Green Bay Packers take on the San
Francisco forty Niners. How bad is that relationship between Mike

(01:47:10):
McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers. I don't know if it's it's bad.
It's just sort of worn, you know what I mean,
and and a little bit sort of haggard. And you're
they're a decade and you have ebbs and flows, and
the lead changes and offenses evolved, and different concepts come in,
and personnel comes and goes, both on the coaching staff

(01:47:31):
and the and obviously from a roster standpoint, and it's
it's sort of crusting, and I don't think it's going
to crescendo again. And the bottom line is a very
young GM and ownership, which basically amounts to team president
Mark Murphy and a board of directors are going to
have to decide, like there's no way McCarthy's coaching on

(01:47:52):
a lame ducky year next year. So we're either putting
a ring on his finger or we're letting him go, right,
I mean, he's not going to take another one year extension.
I mean, I just don't I don't know whoever is
advising him. Can't possibly be like, yeah, just let them
buy you cheap for another year and rent as they go.
So knowing what they're paying Aaron Rodgers now and knowing
the deficiencies there, and knowing that everything just gets a

(01:48:15):
little stale over time. I don't know anybody who I
talked to in the league who sees them giving McCarthy
a deal that runs concurrently with Roger's contract and saying,
you guys got another four years or whatever to figure
it out. So who would be the guy who the
guy there? I don't know, Um, you know, somebody experienced,

(01:48:38):
you know, I don't know what he's fired, you know
what I mean, Like that's the thing. It may be
a guy who just gets let goes somewhere else. Do
you think it's experienced though? I almost feel like that
the trend in the NFL, and maybe this is with
the younger quarterbacks, yeah, is to get one of those
fireball you know, play callers or to them there though,
you know what I mean, Like college would do? Would

(01:49:01):
you do college and Kingsbury or go do what's his name? Lincoln,
Lincoln Riley? I don't I don't know if that's how
that franchise operates that they seem a little more conservative
in state. The problem is if you bring in somebody
who doesn't know as much as Aaron Rodgers, than you're
in trouble. And some of these guys are freas, and
some of them are the real deal, you know. Some
of are byproducts of a system and a guy who

(01:49:21):
coached them up and who their mentor was, and other
ones are better than their mentors. I don't know where
Aaron Rodgers at thirty six million plus a year and
new money, you know what I mean, you take a
whole lot of chances there um, But I think it
will depend on the landscape. And again, who is out there,
you know, like as a Bill O'Brien on the street
or something like that. You know, I don't know. I'm

(01:49:42):
just thinking out loud, but I don't know that they
go that young route. I just boy, I don't know.
Fascinating stuff. You know what, Sometimes the non answer, the
honest answer, is always the good answer. And even when
it's not an answer, it's better than you lye in
to me and making up a name that doesn't that
you don't actually know to be true. That's why I
love you. Jason lack camp for from CBS Sports. Jason,

Let's get to Dan Fire. Well, I do follow on Twitter.
I want to point out it didn't always but fund
his controlling I got. I just thought it. Maybe want
to follow good. We've got a lot from the NFL

(01:50:27):
fallout from week six looking ahead to week seven. Bill's
quarterback Josh Allen week to week with an elbow injury
suffering in yesterday's loss to the Houston Texans, So the
week to week designation goes to Josh Allen. Falconson coach
Dan Quinny has already ruled out Davante Freeman for Week
seven against the Giants. The same with kicker Matt Bryant.
They're out because of injuries. Well, wide receiver Calvin Ridley

(01:50:49):
has a bone bruise in his knee. His status for
Week seven against the Giants still up in the air.
That's a week from tonight. By the way, that I'll
be Monday Night Football next week tonight it's the Niners
and Packers. No Rado cobber Geronimo Allison for Green Bay tonight,
as the wide receivers are expected to miss the game
due to injury. According to ESPN, Niners should have Mett
Brita and Pierre Garson, along with George Kittle for the game.

(01:51:10):
They've been dinked up as of late. Ronco's lost guard
Ronald Leary for the season of torn achilles. He's done
for the year. Vikings corner in first round pick Mike
Hughes has done for the year with a torn a
c l some college football news the SEC find l

In the NBA, the Sons of sign guard Jamal Crawford

(01:51:32):

signing Smiles Turner gonna get a four year deal to
stay with the Pacers. That extension could be worth up
to eighty million dollars according to multiple reports. Larry Nance Jr.
Getting a four year extension from the Cavaliers worth about
forty five million bucks and on Fox Sports One, coverage

Chasin Faces Walker, Bueller, Doug Becker, Bueler Bueler, Doug Gottlieve show,
Fox Sports Radio. Um, you know it's interesting. I thought
the score would be bigger or the spread would be
bigger in terms of the wind, but people were acting.

(01:52:14):
I remember when there's snow on on the ground in
Denver Sunday morning, I saw Twitter freaking out like, oh,
the look at the Rams say they escape the Rams
are coming to play in the snow? Was like have
you have? Have people not watched the Rams play? They
they arguably the best running back in football and arguably
the best offensive line in football. And yeah, they have

(01:52:35):
a high powered offense. I can throw the football down
the field, but they have a tremendous running game. The
Broncos don't like why would that make you? And they
have a tremendous defensive line both against the run and
against the past. Like what's the I know they struggle
against the run in Seattle, but like, what's the that
that was one of those because they're from l A
thing that was the that was the default. Well because

(01:52:56):
they're from l A. They don't like the snow. You know,
likes playing the snow. No one likes haying in the snow.
That's like the old Lebron James. Lebron James don't want
to play in the NFL because he didn't like getting hit.
There's not a wide receiver that goes. I can't wait
to get ear hold today. People say stupid things before games.

(01:53:17):
Um I want to share with you guys a couple
of things that I learned yesterday doing my first maybe
only sideline gag covered the National Football There is a
ton of talk about culture with both the Bears and
with the Dolphins. You have two guys that came over
from being play callers. Adam Gaze, of course, is a
play caller for Peyton Manning in the Denver Broncos and

(01:53:40):
Peyton the sheriff. Peyton Manning was there, so too was
day in the man Marino, but um I thought it
was would and then of course she. On the other side,
you have Matt Naggi, who is a first year head
coach and kind of interesting, kind of interesting. Chris Ballard

(01:54:02):
is the GM of the Indianapolis Colts and they worked
together in Kansas City before Ballard got the GM job,
and he told me the story, and we gotta have
him on at some point, have Nagion at some point,
and I'll try to have him kind of retell the story.
But the day he interviewed and accepted the job with
the Bears, after the Bears interview with Ryan Pace, he interviewed,

(01:54:25):
he interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts with one of his
best friends and their sons were close friends. Anyway, one
of my biggest takeaway from the weekend outside of the
Miami we we had the game of the day and
maybe one of the games of the year until uh
New England in Kansas City last night, it was both

(01:54:49):
teams have experienced Jay Cutler in the last two years,
and both teams feel like their culture is better off
that he's not around. That there are position s's in
the NFL to which in which no one has to
like you quarterback. Is that one off? And I know
that there's a litany of reasons that, for example, Colin

(01:55:12):
Kaepernick is not in the league, and I do think
leading the protests is one of them, but among them
was we should not forget why he originally one of
their big reasons. He lost his gig with the San
Francisco for the Niners the first time around, which was
he lost the locker room. Guys didn't like him. He
used to Aluve headphones on. Not a verbal, not a leader,

(01:55:35):
not a get behind you guy. Whereas yesterday, in overtime,
Kenyan Drake drops the ball, fumbles at the like three
inch line. It's overtime, the Dolphins are going into the
end zone. Frank Gore gets it twice. Okay, gets close,
He's like this far away. They handed to Kenyan Brion

(01:55:55):
called time out. Everybody thinks they're calling time out so
that so that Frank Gore can catch his breath. Instead,
they put Kennyan Drake in. He fumbles at the three
inch line and he's hanging his head in a towel
on the sideline because they were gonna win the game
until they weren't. Right, and brock Osweiler comes over and

(01:56:17):
he's like, hey, they're gonna miss a field goal. We're
gonna come back and win the game. Brock Oswiller, who
got the job pulled from him so Peyton can win
a Super Bowl. Then he signs in Houston, loses that
job goes to Cleveland, loses that job, was back to Denver,
never really gets a shot back in Denver. Now is

(01:56:38):
playing for Adam Gates. He knows that system gets a
spot start duty because that's what the position is about.
Getting guys to buy in, believe in you, and like you,
and man, can I tell you that there wasn't a
human being I spoke with with a sea on their
chest or with a Dolphin logo on their chest that

(01:56:59):
had anything great to say about Jake Cutler other than man,
he had a really good arm. Should the Browns fans
be worried about Baker Mayfield? Find out next? Be sure

I mean, I don't want to be disrespectful here. He
loves so you're retired and didn't tell anybody, which you know,
and it popped to most of us at the end
of our careers. It looks like not that he's uninterested.
He's uninterested in being his offensive line problems um as

(01:57:44):
they've had for years, not only protecting elive, but everything else,
plus all the drama and in fighting and you know,
all the other garbage. And I called the Giants game
last year, and I had former Giants that were there,
and from people on their staff tell me it's the
most dysfunctional they've ever seen the Giant in the history

(01:58:05):
of the New York Giants. And here we sit, you know,
second verse, same as the first. You know, looks just
about as dysfunctional this year as it did last year.

news for you Golf week, saying that Johnny Miller will
announce his retirement very soon from calling golf on NBC,
likely to make his final call with the Waste Management Open,

(01:59:12):
which is Super Bowl weekend, and the the opportunity for
him to step aside presents an opportunity for Paul Azinger
to step into his seat at NBC Sports to be
their lead golf analyst, while also allowing him to continue
to be on the broadcast for Fox Sports during the
US Open and US Women's Open. Johnny good for the singer, Yeah,

(01:59:34):
stepping aside after twenty nine years in that seat for NBC.
Speaking of golfers, of golfers, you don't like Johnny No,
because he said what was on his mind, which I
love absolutely, which which it's been one of those things
where people like, ah, how do you get get Johnny Miller.
He's so opinion like, Yeah, that's why he's actually good. Yeah,
you'll miss him when he's when he's gone. Speaking of

(01:59:58):
TV ratings, the overnight or TV the overnight TV ratings
for the Patriots victory over the Chiefs, last night, the
highest for Sunday Night football since Week one of the
seventeen season, so a year and a half highest ratings
for Sunday night football. Stayley had the Patriots against one
of the most exciting teams we've had in years in
the NFL, and it was an exciting game. Shockerer, Um,

(02:00:20):
Thursday Night, Thursday night, this week is not gonna be great.
Monday Night's not gonna be great. I'm just gonna tonight.
You have the you have Aaron Rodgers. That'll be good.
Are you over the Thursday Night game? Yes, Bronco's Cardinals.
Remember do you remember when the NFL would not have
a game on the first weekend of the World Series,

(02:00:41):
the Sunday night game. They wouldn't do that. They wouldn't
counter against that. No longer. No, now it's a big yeah.
Speaking of tonight's game, ESPN saying Green Bay is gonna
be without Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison because the wide
receivers are dealing with injuries. But the Niners are expected
to have Matt breed, A, Range Kittle and pr Garson
tonight against green Bay. Yeah, but their quarterback is who Yes?

(02:01:06):
C J. Bethard will be playing. We's been playing pretty well,
to be totally, To be totally honest, the line is
nine and a half. We usually do at the end.
We'll do it right now. Music. Who do you got
Packers and nine and a half. I'll go Packers. Uh,
what about you there, Ramos, I'll take green Bay, Green Bay?
What about you there? I'll go Green Bay as well,
green Bay and nine and a half. Yes, I always

(02:01:30):
do it with the spread Ryan Music sometimes, you know,
it may be straight up, maybe with the spread. He
likes to mix it up a little bit. Um. I
think the nine. I think Packers win. Who I'd like
to pass on this one, but I can't. I'll take
the Niners to cover. All right. There you go. There
were some covers this past week. The Bills were able

(02:01:52):
to cover. Despite the loss of the Houston Texans are
about eight to ten point dogs only lost by seven,
but they may have lost quarterback Josh Hallen for while
considered week to week with an elbow injury. According to
Sean McDermott, who who's Allen? Josh Allen? Yeah? That was
they had an m R I on it. Uh, you
know they're running out of quarterbacks pretty quickly there, um

(02:02:12):
and and you want to protect his elbow for years
to come. This is one of the issues that they're
gonna have in Buffalo is even if now you have
to start him, doesn't will he have the time? Will
you have the help so that he doesn't either get
hurt or develop bad habits with a growing Andrey doug
I joked on Twitter another Twitter reference that the best
Bills quarterback on Sunday in that game will be a
Frank Reich. The colt said, coach, Yeah, a little little

(02:02:34):
humor there, old Bills corn back like that. More of
that humor on Twitter. Foxborough Massachusetts Police, you know what,
I'm glad, So I'm glad I follow you now. Foxborough,
Massachusetts Police have arrested a twenty one year old man
and charged him with disortly conduct and throwing an object
at a sporting event after the culprit allegedly threw a
beer at Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill last not at

(02:02:56):
Jette Stadium. So the instead of throwing a book at me,
just throw like a keg at him and under a
mass hole in the dictionary. There's a picture of this guy.
I should say this Baker Mayfield expected to start Week
seven against the Buccaneers, who now have a new defensive
coordinator after letting Mike Smith go earlier today, Hey, Bavada's

(02:03:16):
odds on college Football's National Championship are out. National champion
Alabama odds just keep getting better and better at five
to seven, where their odds last week not five to nine. Yes,
Clemson second at thirteen to two, followed by Ohio State,
Notre Dame in Michigan up from sixteen to one to
twelve to one. Georgia actually dropped, but not tons. They

(02:03:37):
were a fifteen to two shot last week. Sixteen to
one now to win college Football's National champions and l
s U one they were probably George's they got. They
gotta win their division now and then they're probably gonna
have to beat Alabama to get to the College Football
National champions uh playoff, right, not gonna get in as
a loser in the in the SEC Championship, you know

(02:03:59):
with with two laws says that would be. That's a
hard one, especially Notre Dame right now having no losses.
So look, I don't think Notre Dame is as good
as as Alabama, but they might be the best buy back,
get out there and pressed. That was the press. Uh,
now's a fantastic time to buy a new hunt of
