mean im mature? Is it because I've called the next
(00:22):
five days of football the football stiffy? Wait? Five days
of football stiffies? Today's day one? Is that why they
say we're immature? I don't know. I guess so I'm Cavino,
that is rich Welcome to the show, broadcasting live from

(00:45):
dot com the way tire buying should be. And after
the show does a hell of a job putting together
on best of I do host each hour so you
can rate, review, follow, and support the Cavino and rich O.
We appreciate that I was Sam's on the ones and
two's DB's here, Spotty on the videos, and Hey full
team full show, let's go, let's rock it out, and
(01:09):
again we're safe from the fires. But shout outs to
the first responders and just good vibes everybody affected by
the fires out here in La Again. I'm Steve Cavino.
That is Rich Davis. It's because it's such a heavy
sort of feeling in the air. It's heavy, for sure.
It really is like there's a part of us that's
(01:29):
exhausted from just dealing with the fear of having to evacuate,
and then all those poor people that actually did lose something,
and then the sympathy and empathy we have for the
people that had to leave. It's such a heavy time
that I want to ask you the dumbest question, But
then also you also feel like an a hole if
you complain about anything. Yeah, I don't want to complain
(01:51):
about anything because people are dealing with so much it's
so hard to see perspective. I almost feel bad bragging
about the fact that we're okay. We are. We're surrounded
by the chaos out here, but we're good for now.
But it is scary. It is heavy. So I have
a really dumb question to lighten it up a little bit.
Please do let's have some fun. The weekend starts on
(02:13):
a Thursday. We have some exciting football, which is always
a great distraction, and that's what we hope to be
for you guys as well. Covino and Rich. Everything at
Covino and Rich. Right before the show, we have I
mean to call it a meeting would be exaggerating. We
have a pre show meeting. It's more of a let's talk,
a big mic sort of sitting down, let's hang out
and in front of each other. And we were eating lunch.
(02:37):
We had El Poyo Loco today and I you mean
the crazy chicken for those non bilingual people. Yeah, I
don't know if I like Losoiosos better, but eloo is
pretty good too. So I had this double chicken corn
bowl or something like that. I don't know. But they
(02:58):
serve this creamy cilantro sauce that is to die for.
It really is the creamy cilantro. And by the way,
it's probably eight million calories because it's extra creamy. Like
they have the salsa vanday, they have all their salsas,
but they have this creamy cilantro that is so good.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
It's really the best part of l poyo loko ah.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Backing me up, rich back me up. I'll back you up,
but I can't back up the fact that you said
the phrase toudautful. I mean, I want to slap you
when you said that it's too diful. It is. It's
really good. It's okay, fine, it's good, right, it's good now.
Based on that, because I house this salad, I feel
like I'm taking all my frustrations out on eating food.
(03:44):
I'm justifying lots of snacking rich On. You know, I
think I've earned it. This is stressful out here going
on in the world. Yeah, you know what I mean,
all this fire stuff. I deserve this doughnut anyway. Based
on that, when you think back on a throw back thirty,
we're gonna get to some old school and fifty hits
throwback discussions later on. In the world of technology. Today
(04:05):
is a very special throwback day. But when you think
back and reminisce, is there a dipping or a sauce
that you look back and you're like, that was the
shiz bam snapby? Because I have one that I don't
know if people are gonna remember or relate to, but
one for me stands out like, look, everyone loves their
famous Dave, sweet and sassy, their devil spit, their zesty sauce,
(04:31):
whatever it is. You have your favorites. I actually, you
know what, I have two that stand out that are
legendary in my mind. Just real quick, is there one
for you? Without even preparing for this conversation, I've already compiled,
like I said, my top three. You have three. I
have three, and I'm gonna give them to you. Oh
right now, all right, and I'm gonna include one of them.
You may say, not a dipping, but I'll argue it. Okay,
(04:53):
Number one, good sauce. Let me get the sauce. And
by the way, Patrick Balls here, can I throw Hunts
in there? Hunts ketchup for the wind. I just want
to say, uh, shout out to Hunts. All right, back
to the show, thanks for homes. When it comes to dippings,
I love saying the word dippens, I mean, let's get
(05:14):
the obvious one out the way. Chick fil A sauce
for you, not for me.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Chick fil A sauce, their original sauce.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, without a doubt, but I know people love it.
My wife, my daughter, like the Polynesian they have great
sauces there, so I'm gonna go Chick fil a sauce.
As far as fast food spots, it's a regional barbecue spot.
But Rudy's Barbecue they have the sassy barbecue sauce. They
call it the Sassey See. I mean, I don't know,
but I would love to try it. And when you
(05:42):
go to Texas Roadhouse, Oh, okay, that cinnamon butter. You
might not say it's a dipping, but it's a particular Yeah, no,
I know, I'm with you on it. The ones that
come to mind for me, some of them are thrown back.
I'm gonna add this to the list because the creamy
cilantro at alpoy Loco is really one for me. You
might not have it where you live, but you're missing
(06:02):
out and I'm throwing it out there and inspired the
thought old school throwback Thursday. There was a chain called
Roy Rogers. I don't know if you guys remember it,
but Roy Rogers used to have the best nuggets in
my opinion, but they had the best sweet and sour sauce.
You know. They also had Roy Rodgers. They had the
Fixen's bar Ah, but that's sauce, dude, like I want
(06:25):
like McDonald's nugget sauce. Get out of here, Roy Rogers
sweet and sour sauce. And remember, for years before I
got into radio, I worked at Bennigan's, which is like
a version of Chili's or Applebee's. Bennigins they had the
best honey mustard dippin' that I ever tasted till this day,
one of my favorites. So I remember it was just
(06:46):
throwing it out there. It was more money, more honey
than mustard. I think that's why it was like so good.
Is there like one or two that come to mind
for you, Danny G Like you're like that is the best.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, for sure. You guys were at Co's first birthday party.
Remember Toppers pizza in their homemade ranch.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Oh, yes, they do.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Man find a place that makes their own their own ranch,
and when it's light enough and it has that certain
certain tang to it, that certain it's hard to explain, right,
but there's some ranch that's just I understand why, well
what some people are like, I don't like ranch, but
it's gotta be the right rank.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
I don't, Danny, I'm not a ranch guy, but at
your kid's birthday party. I was dipping.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
I was I was doing a gallon on.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Like freaking nasty bro when he dipped, you dipped, I dipped.
I am a This shows you how much Danny's right
about this particular ranch. Because I'm an East Coaster. The
idea of ranch on pizza is blasphemy. It is ridiculous,
the idea that someone would put ranch on pizza. To me,
(07:51):
punch yourself in the face. But this particular ranch found you.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Ever visit the West Coast look up Toppers pizza.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
I found myself dipping the crust in then, and I'm like,
I'm a fraud. Not that was like their their signals pizzas.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah, their pizzas a nine, and then the ranch is
a ten out of ten. So uh, and then the
other one you you'll take note of this. For Chick
fil a Rich My whole family does this. Besides the
o G sauce you talked about. They take a Polynesian
and a buffalo, open both of them and they pour
a little bit of the buffalo into the middle of
the Polynesians, a.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Little mittle remix the Danny g remax.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Try that the next time you get some chicken Sam
you got.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
When it comes to mind, I do like Horsey sauce
and RB saw some Arby's.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Those are both really good.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
And then I think, my favorite though of all time
is I don't even know if it has a name,
but it's the sauce they put on, like the Caesa
dias at Taco Bell. It's like almost like a Chipotle
ranch or like it's like a smoky, cheesy good. You know,
put on the cheesey, go eat a crunch. You ain't kidding,
But it's the chemicals in it. The spicy make me hungry.
But Sam is so on the money. I'm a big
(09:02):
Taco Bell late night will Taco Bell? Do you have
an edible or something?
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Oh, I'm a big Taco Bell advocate. I will tell
you green peace or something. Let me tell you something
I was Sam. The cheesy Gordida crunch has that spicy ranch.
You know what I ordered? I say, give me a
chicken chiloopa. I order other things, but I say, instead
of sour cream, put on that the spicy ranch you
(09:28):
put on the Gordida crunch. Put it on everything else.
There's two layers to this question. Also, Number one, think
of the sauces that you think are dynamite. I think
the regular hot sauce at Taco bell I keep that
because I'll put it on like a chicken sandwich.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
You're talking about the hot sauce, the fire sauce. To mi,
I go high like the fire. I don't think the
hots even. It's like taco sauce to me, and like.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
The siracha at Starbucks because I do oh for the
egg sandwiches. Anyway, dB do you have when that comes
to mind? Or is this a very specific thing everyone have,
like one of their favorites.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
The tricky thing is because again I eat like an
eight year old, so like the dipping of the sauce
is not a huge deal. Out Back Steakhouse still used
to have things called Tassi bites. They were their chicken bites.
It was the best buffalo sauce ever it was. It
was so good.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
If you ever went to a TGI Fridays used to
have that check Daniel sauce still do.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
I was there a couple of weeks ago, but the
naming is off. Now it's Whiskey Glaze. So when you
go you can still get sponsors. You could get the
sesame chicken or you can get the chicken breast or
the steak and the whiskey glaze.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Well I take out of that is TGI Fridays had
a fight with Jack Daniels. Yes, I agreed anyway, I
don't want to bore you at my thought here, but
Radio Fat Guy Radio and tippings are always fun to
talk about. And man, I enjoyed that salad because it
was his gross billion calorie sauce. It's it's a dipping
sauce that they also use as a dressing. So there
(11:06):
you have. If you want to add to the list,
hit us at Covino and Rich Fat Guy Radio here
on the show. The funny part is we all started
to stay in shape, go to the gym, trying to
go from dad bod to like, oh look at you
try to look good with your shirt off. And then
you're like, like, Cavino ordered the chicken grilled chicken salad
and they smothered it. Can you know how to play
(11:28):
the lettuce with chicken and corn on it? And he's
like dressing.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
I was like, come on, Also, remember the countdown is
on for New Orleans. When we're at the Super Bowl.
Lots of photos get taken, and I know about you guys,
but there's some super bowls I look back and I'm like,
why am I so bloated in that pictures? Fast?
Speaker 1 (11:47):
It's that ranch sauce for real? Yeah, the toppers you
know here here. But you're right, you know what, Richard,
that's a great point. Though. You always need something, whether
it be the super Bowl coming up for us or
vacation coming up for you, you always need a little
something that keeps you honest and motivated to stay somewhat
(12:08):
in shape. To me, it's usually a beachy vacation. Like, hey, uh,
in March, my wife and I are going to Mexico.
I don't want to look like a dope on the beach,
and you need something on the calendar. Now here's the
final question. To put a little bow on this, Let's
do it. I don't think it makes you a cheap skate,
but I can't see myself ever buying these sauces yet
(12:31):
I love them. Like I'll go to the supermarket, I'll
see the Chick fil A sauce in a in like
a ketchup bottle, and I'm like, nah, I'm buying it.
In my mind, I'm like I'm good for just asking
chick FLI can you throw like three more sauces in
the back if you start buying it at the supermarket,
it might be a little much. No, sometimes it's not
the same. Yeah, that's not good for you either.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
You ask for extra, and then we all have that
one drawer in our kitchen where we throw the extra
pack everybody.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Has that one spot. Your parents only kept soy sauce.
I keep everything. Yeah, you gotta, you got harvests.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
My mom had the top Ramen seasoning packets in a drawer.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
So there there you have it. Steve Cavino, the King
of condiments. That's my story. I'm sticking to it. Did
your grandparents keep jellies from like diners? Like, that's what
my grandma gave me as like a treat. She gave
me a little strawberry candies and jelly packets. They stole
the saltines too. She have chicklets and jelly packets in
her purse. Did all of our grandparents' generation just steal
(13:27):
stuff from like diners? Yes, like jelly's and pack Now
I'm only not only the king of condiments, I'm also
a Yankees fan. Saltines before we talked football and the
return of basketball and Rich's solar power parlay. Today, I
have a question based on something I saw. Let me
pose it, We'll let it simmer, and then we'll get
(13:48):
your feedback. Alex Verdugo had a way below average season
with the Yankees. However, I liked them loco forever. I
liked his attitude. I like that it appeared to me
that he liked being a Yankee. I remember there was
(14:08):
a moment he had a moment and like, how are
you gonna feel? Oh, it was like his return back
to Boston or something like that, how are you gonna feel?
He's like, I'm gonna feel like a Yankee? Like he
wore the pinch stripes with some pride. I appreciated that,
even though he struggled in pin stripe, pride lissen to you. Well,
you want the players of your team to be happy
to be there, right. You don't want a Jimmy Butler
(14:30):
on your team. You want a Tyreek Hill on your team.
And I say that respectfully because they don't want to
play there. Based on pictures we've been seeing, I think
my dude, Juan Soto likes all the Dippins Yeah, he
wants to be a met He's trying all the dippins
at the shakeshack lay off the sheck. So Alex Vradugo
(14:51):
is one of those guys who's in limbo right now,
to my knowledge, and he was quoted as saying this today.
Alex Verdugo has a lot to say about free agency.
This is according to MLB. I'm looking forward to signing
with the team that will let me wear my chains
and grow my beard out so I could get back
(15:13):
to normal. That kind of makes me think a lot
of things. Something that we've been talking about, like there's
got to be a compromise with the Yankees code. It's
been an ongoing narrative on our show because Cauvin knows
a big Yankees fan, and even he has softened up, like, yo,
maybe the Yankees and this whole clean shaven professional basketball
player vibe is outdated for a young person. And you know,
(15:36):
like dude, exhibit f did We've heard this from many players.
Dugo the latest to say I want to get quote
back to normal. You know what normal means for him,
but you know, to wear his chain and grow beard.
It does make you think, does that stifle one's confidence
when they feel like they're not themselves right, Like I
don't feel like a badass, and I'm not playing like
a badass. I feel like a little baby boy. I
(15:57):
don't feel cool and it affects my confidence. That sounds corny,
But then there's another part of me that says, you know, dude,
this guy's focused on wearing his chains. How about you
focus on baseball? Yeah, but you're the guy. You're the
guy that always make sure your hair is perfect, to
make sure his Jordan's matches wristbanded for his Apple Watch.
Like you're a meticulous guy matches my shirt? You see
(16:20):
that gotta be ridiculous about being meticulous. So if you're
a guy that's ridiculous about the little things, and and
you're you got to make sure the oh, I'm wearing
a light blue Jordan's today, So am I throw you off?
I get it. If I told you Fox Sports ready,
you'll put down a mandate that you have to wear
a Khaki's tork every day. Okay, but how about this
point too. I do believe in the compromise that the
(16:41):
Yankees have to bend. I don't think that people should
have the freedom look like a hobo at the workplace,
at the office in the pinstripes. But maybe there's a compromise, right, like, hey,
you could rock a scruff, but not a hobo beard hobo.
Don't you also think that you could be burning a
bridge by speaking in that tone, not if you want that,
not if you ever want to, not if you don't
(17:03):
feel like crossing that bridge. Again, I don't think it's
ever in good taste to speak that way about a
previous employer, even if you got fired. I don't know,
because you never know, you never know, never know. I
just don't think it's a good idea. And the Yankees
have a history of bringing people back, and look, we
rich and I have had bad work experiences. Talent speaks
(17:23):
for itself. I try to focus on the positive. I
don't I don't necessarily lie about my experience either, But
I'm not going to bad mouth things because you never know.
In one little comment, it just had so many different
layers to me. Talent speaks for itself. Marcus Stroman, when
he wrapped up his time as a met pretty much
said the whole New York market, the fans, the press,
(17:44):
the media, everyone was like racist and terrible. You know,
fast forward a couple of years, he's looking for a
new gig, free agency. Oh, let me need Yankees. Hey
New York got them back? Marcus Stroman like.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
You know, yeah, just today, you guys were talking about
some former bosses at past places you worked at. Yeah,
you want to talk about those guys right now.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
I won't come out by name, but you know what
I did say to be to be fair, because we're
going to talk about NFL coaching later. I said that,
and this is your dad would say, maybe I'm kissing ass. Yeah,
why reached David? So he's kissing a. But there's a
part of me that loves this job because I believe.
I believe in the management the people that run this place.
Julie don are but Shapiro like the guys and women
(18:29):
that run this place, I believe in them. I've worked
at places where I'm like, that's the person running things.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
You forgot Big Mike.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Oh he's there, he's everyone's boss. They all report he's
the Lord Business Mike, who runs this place. He's the king.
I think that was the lego guy, right, lord Business.
I think that's what his name was. So what are
your thoughts on this. I'm looking forward to signing with
a team. He basically sneaked this the Yankees passive aggressively,
(18:58):
maybe just straight up aggressively. I'm looking to sign with
a team that's going to let me wear my chains,
grow my beard out so I could get back to normal.
Saying that was a weak way to play is actuv
shoals for the Yankees. You know your thoughts on that.
I think it's a reminder to never burn a bridge.
But we'll get your feedback and phone calls next plus
(19:19):
again later in the show Old School and fifty Hits,

Speaker 1 (20:51):
I have all these fat guy thoughts going through my
mind right now. I'm thinking about the Asian zin dressing
at Buffalo Wild Wings. That with your snippings, Cavino and
Rich on Fox Sports Radio Live from the Tyrack dot

to rapid radios dot com. Again live from the tyrack
dot com studio here in Los Angeles, where we're doing
our best to have a good time when in between
(21:35):
we're watching clips of people we know evacuating their homes,
losing their homes. Just a terrible scene out here, but
for now we're good and wishing you the best. Yeah,
just honestly a terrible scene. And I know we're a
national show and we're on, you know, on hundreds of
places outside of this area, but it is, uh, it's distracting.
It's hard to come to work and be all happy
(21:55):
when the neighborhoods around you are not celebrities but regular people.
One of my favorite rappers are guy Harry Mack. You
know Harry MC, the freestyler. He just posted he lost
his home, he lost everything, and these are just examples
of thousands of people who were going through it right now,
(22:16):
So stay sent. Just a miserably said clip of a
ninety one year old guy. I saw his home in
the eating fire. Yeah, and he's like, I'm ninety one.
I guess I'll have just start over. Guy's got to
start over at ninety one. Yeah, it's horrible. Oh my goodness. Well, hey,
hanging their West Coast everyone, elrich. You know, it's Fox
Sports Radio, and it does really remind you the beauty
(22:37):
of sports because it's the greatest distraction. You know, you
could say music, you could say our radio show and
things you tune into, but sports number one on the list.
Are you're going through sports, podcasting, radio, music, These are
things that are are great, great distraction. Speaking of which,
(22:58):
JJ Reddick. Wasn't his home destroyed? Was it destroyed? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (23:03):
It was a rental home that he was since he
obviously just took over the job. But yeah, his family
had to be evacuated. Everybody that's with him here, they
had to be evacuated and the homes eventually lost.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
So many people seriously affected. But you know, we're still
yet to see the aftermath. Everybody's gonna be affected. In
some way, where do all these people go. Look, I
don't want to harp too much on that. Yeah, I
do appreciate that we have lots of other things to
look forward to. Like you said, Rich, today is day
one of the five days of football stiffies. Is that
what we call it? Five days stiffy? Yes, because if
(23:36):
you love football the next five days you are going
to be excited. Let's be honest, starting today, Notre Dame
Penn State. I heard our buddy mad Dog Russel. I
don't know how you pick a winner in this game.
How do you pick a winner? Which is why yesterday
said I'm gonna go over forty four and a half,
and later on with DraftKings, we'll go over more of
(23:57):
our picks. But I like the over tonight. I don't
know how you pick a winner in either one of
these games. But you know what, tomorrow I have more
of a read on the Ohio State Texas game. But tonight, Roofer,
who you think is gonna win or you want to win?
Impossible to decide. In fact, right now in Vegas, it's
even so the penn State.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
I've noticed this obviously in the state of Pennsylvania and
Philadelphia like everybody's a Penn State fan. Isn't that kind
of true in Jersey too, Like there's a ton of
Penn State fans. Like it's kind of the de facto
college team of like the Northeast there is, because there's
no definitives been really like at Penn State's level for
(24:38):
a long time orhever and uh yeah, it just seems
like they're the team.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
By your tongue. I overlapped one year with Donovan mcnebb. No, no,
he listen, he was like the last time they won
like eleven games. Wi was Donovan's personal water boy. There
was you know, Syracuse pretty good this year they were ranked.
Yeah they were ten to three, but like if Penn
State goes ten three, they're like, yo, I was Sam,
You're right on though, because you're a guy that you know,
(25:03):
you're Iowa Sam. College sports meant a lot where you
grew up. Where we grew up on the East Coast,
when you had the Yankees, Mets, Jets, Giants, Islanders, Rangers, Devils, Knicks, Nets,
there was not much room for college sports. It's something
you had to take an interest in it if you
if you were a kid that grew up on in
the Tristate area, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, maybe Syracuse,
Penn State.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
It wasn't Rutgers, like no one embraced because Rutgers football
is up until now or like last fifteen years.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Wayne that went to Hastra Steve, Wayne Cervett went to Hasha.
And the other one was for a minute here and there,
Saint John's basketball would be decent, like definitely for a minute.
You're right about that, man, It was, uh, you have
to look up to like BC or BU or down
to Maryland or up to Syracuse. There was no real
New York City thing. You're right.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
So I hope it is a high scoring game tonight.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
I hope so too.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
I hope think it's going to be. I think it's
gonna be like twenty to fourteen, watch your mouth. I
think it's gonna be a defensive struggle. I think it's
gonna be great to just have something fun and cool
to watch aside from the news.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Did I was, Sam just put the Jamboozie on my pick.
You know, I'm sorry scores there.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Sam also tried to jink Sam Darnold before the NFL
season that went I.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Was, Sam was just pretty much just said I'm gonna
go hard on the under all right, Before we get
to dB for an update, I want to bring up
something Dan Byron I talked about in the kitchen during
the last break and listen, don't construe something to be
political if political people are involved. I hate that. That's
my biggest pet Peeve. OK, just because you mentioned President
Trump or Obama or Biden, doesn't mean it's a political conversation.
(26:37):
Just means you're including people that are in that world.
Jimmy Carter Rest in peace, one hundred years old. Yeah,
there's photos and little videos and memes emerging of Donald
Trump and Barack Obama sitting next to each other, and
there's a sense of like they're having a lighthearted conversation.
(27:00):
And then if you remember a couple of months ago,
Jill Biden, maybe they're talking about Dippins. That was only
a few weeks ago. Yeah, in France, right, Yeah, Joe
Jill Biden, not Joe Joe. And Trump was sitting next
to Trump and it seemed like he was charming her
and she was giggling at his jokes and she was
saying things back and it and it makes you wonder
of people you think that hate each other. Is it
(27:20):
interesting when you see them paling around, like when we
were kids, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird when you finally
saw them playing together on the Dream Team. It also
just happened at the Golden Globes when Vin Diesel acknowledged
Duane the Rock Johnson because there's supposed to be a
lot of beef there, but he says, hey, remember he
walks up and he goes hey, Dwayne, and people are like, oh,
that was That was kind of weird, but it showed
(27:43):
that he wanted to acknowledge him in a weird way.
I mean hul Cogan, you know, the guy that everyone
hates now because he never really solved the whole racial stuff.
There were times where Vince McMahon like essentially banned him
from wrestling, like erased him, and then like there'd be
a Monday Night Raw ten years later and there's Holgan.
So when you see people that you think hate each
(28:04):
other and they're pealing around, I didn't mean to butcher
your thought, dB, but is that's what it were? You
go exactly what it was like when you see people
that you think can't stand each other and then they're uh,
yeap it up. Look like there it would be like
my ex wife and my mom at my daughter's sweet sixteen.
Perhaps you assume they're gonna hate each other. I assume
my mom won't show up. That's the truth.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
Yeah really yeah, yeah, And there's a past between them
as well where they yeah, well, look, I'm her baby boys.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Yeah right, yeah, She's like, yeah, I'm not going if
she's there. His mom holds more resentment than he does.
I mean, there's a lot of family dynamics, like in fact,
I get it, she's a Cavino guy, gal, I'm her
baby boy. I assume next year at Covino's daughter sweet sixteen,
I already bought the exact popcorn I want to eat
(28:53):
for when I see his ex wife and mom and arow.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
I as a golf fan seeing Tiger Woods and Phil
Mickelson for a while get along because they were such
rivals and they there was you either in the world
of golf. More people were Tiger fans overall, but there
was a Tiger Woods Phil Mickelson obviously split in rivalry,
and even they played together at a Ryder Cup twenty
years ago and it was an absolute disaster. It didn't
(29:17):
work out. But as they got older in age, all
of a sudden, now they become the old guys and
they're trading barbs back and forth. And it was beneficial
for them financially to also do this. But it was
neat to see while these guys are actually getting along
for this rivalry that you thought it lasted so long.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
It's life imitating art. Sometimes you saw it, you said,
with Jimmy Carter's funeral. It's it's Rocky Balboa and Apollo
Creed putting differences aside, you know, for the greater good
of things. I love it. I mean, think of how
the music world's head would spin. Imagine if Drake and
Kendrick Lamar, like you found them bro huggin and then
maybe that led to some cool collaboration.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
What Yeah, all of a sudden one of them brings
them out on a song during the you know, during
the concert, comes out at halftime. That'd be crazy.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Yeah, but you know what, it's it's also again true
to life. How many times in your regular life, in
real life, for everybody, do people put differences aside for
things like funerals?
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Right?
Speaker 1 (30:15):
You see family members who hate each other, but they
have to acknowledge each other just because, like, you know,
my dad will hate on a cousin or something because
they never paid him back. But it's somebody's funeral, and
my dad has to be cordially. There's but there is.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
It is such a leap of faith from one party
to the other because you don't know if you're going
to get that back.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
You don't know if it's.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Going to be returned to you, so to so it's
easier to not talk or to not extend that olive branch,
so much easier because not only is it just easier
to be that way, but your then would look almost
like a fool if it wasn't returned in the same fashion.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
dB. I have very few enemies. Let's just say I'm
bumped into someone and I I know that this person
I don't care for each other, and I gave the
little like hey, how you doing head nod? I was
there witness, and this person was like, yeah, I want
to kill you. I was like, oh, this guy said,
half away from me, I'm gonna punch you in the face.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
It stinks. Yeah, Like I mean you were just trying
to whatever.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Just be cool with it in the moment. Yeah, it
was unexpected. I saw it. It was wild. And you
know what when you see Donald Trump and Barack Obama,
two guys with no love lost there and they're putting
whatever aside to you know, have a you know, a
little cordial conversation at the funeral of Jimmy Carter, you know,
makes you think, like some of these people really hate
(31:38):
each other or is it no? I think as adults
doing the right thing. I think it's a great look
and it should be an example for people to have
the ability to put differences aside for things that matter.
Another awkward interaction we see with the Trump and Pence too.
They great each other with a handshake, and I was like, oh,
(32:00):
I just picture that video of Donald Trump where he's
like dancing and then he looks at the camera in points.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Now, if you put de Niro in Trump in the
same room, that might be a little tough to get
them to get along.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Loaths Trump, that's.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
Never gotting, no way. Alright, Well, you know what, think
about it? An interesting thought, sports, politics, life. Can you
put those differences aside? Let's go to dB for an update.
What's up?
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Damn matching the Arnge Bowl Notre Dame in Penn State
tonight seven thirty Eastern time. One other college football now,
Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, who had elbow surgery couldn't finish
the year because of the injury suffered in the SEC
title game, is entering the transfer portals, so he wants
out of Georgia. We thought that was the case because
he did submit his name for the NFL draft, now
keeping his options open. If he stays in college football,
(32:48):
he likely will be playing elsewhere outside of Athens, Georgia.
NFL news, Tom Telsco's out as the GM of the
Raiders after one season. Zave Flowers is out for the
Ravens wild guard game against the Steelers. Wide receiver will
miss the game because of a knee injury. Some coaching
news to tell you about. Interview wise, Pete Carroll just
interviewed with the Chicago Bears. Well, the Patriots did interview
(33:09):
Mike Vrabel today. The NFL Network reports that Lions defensive
coordinator Aaron Glenn declined an interview with the Patriots, But
we'll interview for the other five vacancies in the NFL.
The agent for Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, that's Drew
Rosenhaus told the Pad McAfee show today that his client
is committed to the Dolphins. Tonight's game between the Lakers
and Hornets in LA has been postponed because of the wildfires.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Guys, back to you, hey, dB, Just to clarify becus,
you're a more knowledgeable guy than mostly anyone I know
in sports. I remember Bo Jackson. When you decline where
you're drafted, you you don't have to go. You could
be in another draft, but you can't go back to
playing correct or can you? Well?
Speaker 2 (33:51):
If you if you've if you like going back to college, yes.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
If Carson Beck says I'm eligible for the draft, but
then he's like, I'm also on the transfer portal, how
much feeling out could he do without leading?
Speaker 4 (34:03):
Yeah, there is a draft deadline, and I think it
may be later than what it usually was. I think
it's before it used to be around this time. Yeah,
but I think that it's a couple of weeks. So
once that deadline passes, you're either in or your outs.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Perfect. Thank you, my friends. We got more Kaveno on
rich We're gonna go old school and fifty hits a
really interesting one because today is the anniversary of something
that changed each and every one of our lives. Think
about that. I could guarantee this change your life. Plus,
I have a theory about the NFL coaching carousel that
I think is gonna hit. I think you guys are
gonna like this theory I have. We'll get to all
(34:37):
that coming up your buds. Covino on Rich right here

football to distract us later tonight. That doesn't mean you
have your head into clouds and ignore what's going on,
but try to enjoy the games tonight day one of
(35:45):
five days of football, and I want to remind you
guys that whatever we don't get to today, whatever we
don't get to today on the show will fit into
over Promised, our bonus podcast. And we're already running late,
so I know we're gonna talk wild Card weekend on
over Promised and the wild food they're serving. We have
(36:06):
some thoughts on that, and there's a new sports urban
legend that we might have to add to the top
three sports urban legends of all time. You know what,
I want to save it for over Promised because I
feel like my uncensored thoughts might be better. There you go, uncensored,
more reason to listen. That's over Promised right after this show.
We try to do it every Thursday. It's our bonus podcast.
(36:28):
Things we don't have time for, but it's it's gonna
be live on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. Oh look
at the time, Danny J. Let's go fifty after it's time.
If there's a surgeon, what we're gonna do is go back.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
Back into time, throwing it back for a Thursday. Old
School went fifty hits at fifty after cn R give
you the time capsule topic and we reminisce together.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Yeah, every Thursday, like to throw it back, reminisce with you.
In our generation for the most part, loves the reminisce. Oh, nostalgia.
There's a hell of a drug. According to the stats
on this date, what do you know about? Dwayne Stats?
(37:17):
On this date in two thousand and seven, the first
iPhone was unveiled. Steve Jobs revealed the very first iPhone
to the public on this day in two thousand and
seven at the Macworld Convention, which was held in Moscone Center,
San Francisco, Moscone Mascone mosconing eighteen years ago. So the
(37:41):
iPhone could what do you do at eighteen now? Gamble, vote, yeah,
and listen to the military could kick your ass probably now.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
I overstating it to say that the Apple iPhone has
changed the world as we know it.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Not only change the world. I'll go out on a lemon, say,
in our lifetime, other than the Internet in general, other
than the Worldwide Web, I would say device wise, I
think the iPhone is the most important invention of our life.
If you're thirty, forty, fifty years old, tell me something
(38:16):
that is more impactful. Because I'll be right, I'll be honest.
Right now, there's one, two, there's seven people in this room.
Everyone has an iPhone within two feet of them. Change
my mind, Give me that's true.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
I mean, the first down line on TV for football
games is the real invention that we can finally see.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
You know who invented that? A guy we worked with,
Gary Morgenstern, Gary from We worked with him a sn y.
It was it was like weird bragging. Did I say
that for real? Because when you meet him it has
to be said any new persons like, oh, this is Gary.
He was behind the first down line of that. And
I remember being like, yeah, dude, you have the coolest
story of anyone I know. Yeah, that was true. We
(38:55):
worked with that guy. When you watch an old football
game from our childhood, they don't put the score up,
they don't put the quarter up. There's no first down line.
It's a little tricky to watch, like a nineteen eighty
five Bears game or something. Well at the time in
two thousand and seven, again on his day, the first
two models, a four gig and an eight gig, were
priced at four ninety nine and five ninety nine. The
(39:17):
two became available that following June twenty ninth at six,
the delight of hundreds of fans who stood outside the
store across the nation waiting to get their hands on
the Jesus phone, says.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
Remember article, there's that famous video clip of the woman
who took her life savings and try to buy her
way to the front of the line because she was
gonna buy tons of them and then resell them. And
so she paid this kid all this money to get
his spot in the front. She gets in and they're
like two per customer.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Map. I know who you know who that kid is?
That kid's famous, now swear to gud. Yeah, that is
Mark Rebelay, the online entertainer who makes songs and freestyles
on the computer.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Yeah, he loops his own music.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
He loops his music, plays the piano. Mark Rebelay was
that kid. That's the weird story and weird tye in.
But based on the fact that we're celebrating this anniversary
that really did change our lives and not even our
lives change the world. Right, are there other inventions you
could also put into that conversation? Can I just first
(40:18):
insult have our audience by saying, have you got an Android,
your green text, I will not allow you to mess
up my group chats.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
You shooting Hi. It's not half, it's not half the
audience making.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
They made it better. Didn't the recent update make it better?
Or now they're kind of included. I don't know your
videos and pictures come out grainy because of your one buddy.
That's like, go to an Android, but we'll argue their
cameras are better, not anymore.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
What would you guess? Spot twenty percent of our listeners
have Android, thirty five.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Percent you know what your thoughts old school and fifty hits.
What other inventions in your lifetime made a huge impact?
What are your top inventions? Alla the iPhone celebrating its
eighteenth birthday to day, we'll take your feedback next, and
of course a lot of NFL. We're gonna get to
(41:06):
a theory on coaches versus players, So Hank tight more
CNR next
