Speaker 3 (00:41):
Good morning. Body excited today? I guess we are joined
later on by one of our good pals, Coach Ballgame,
who is such a great follow on social media, an
ambassador in Mijor League Baseball, works with kids, works with
your boy Jeter, Bobby Witt Junior. So we're gonna talk
a bunch of baseball with Coach ball Game. There's the
best story in the world of sports that's going so

(01:03):
onto the radar, it's so intriguing. There's a layer of intrigue,
a layer of professionalism, a layer of segs, a layer
of everything in this story that I'm like, WHOA sounds
juicy And it has nothing to do with coaches and reporters,
though we are going to touch on Diana Rossini and

(01:24):
coach ray Ball and what do you need to see
to believe them? Because I want to believe Diana.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, this story has taken on a life of its own.
We'll definitely get to that. Also, a new feature called
Mike Who Runs This Take? Mike Who Runs His Place
runs his take here on our show on Wednesdays, and
we're bringing it here to the DP Show plus Midweek
Major everything you need to know in the world of
sports and pop culture. We decide are these stories mid

(01:53):
as the kiddo say, weak stories or major? And that's
gonna be hosted by Iowa Sam Everybody. Sammy here on
the buttons playing the xylophone, the Glockenspiel, and of course
Danny g is our super producer on the phones. As
we speak eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, Let
the Wild Rump to start eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox. How was your Tuesday night, Rich? Did you

(02:17):
have a nice one?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
I'll tell you what my taxes done, bro. But by
the way, anyone that does their own taxes, I'm always like,
what are you doing? Like you can you even begin
to think of how to do your own taxes?

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Can you imagine like scrambling to get it done like
yesterday or anytime this week.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Get it out of the way, the taxes. It's the
worst part of the game. Let me make sure we
don't have any commercials for do your own taxes? Hold
on night, We're good? Who does our own taxes? To me?
It's like I look at forms and I'm like, how
would anyone even appropiate?

Speaker 4 (02:48):
I know a lot of people, and there are some
fine companies that I think are on some of the
other shows on the network Rich where they help people
do their own taxes. But if you tried to do
it without an expert, hop, yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
I give our accountant, can't do it, our trustworthy account
all our stuff, and I'm like, do it, yeah, I
just don't trust myself, you know. It's like it's like
Home two Pairs where I could probably go on YouTube
and figure out how to replace that life fixture.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
But I I am way confident I'll mess it up. Yeah,
so leave it in the hands of a professional. But
it's tasking. So hopefully you're getting sweet returns. My friends,
sweet returns. It's the opposite. People like damn it. But
then they always say, well, if you're getting returns, it
means you're overpaying throughout the year, because like, oh, I'm
good with that. I'd rather just get money back than

(03:37):
pay anybody.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
You ever see that famous clip of the little kid
and he's like, taxes, it's the worst part of the game.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Well, he's playing Monopoly. You got to set it up.
I do a great so worst part of that Welcome
to life kid it is. But you asked me how
my night.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Was, I'll tell you in twenty seconds, and then we'll
get into a really interesting story about a scary moment
in the world of baseball. Okay, an injury that could
have been way worse. Okay, but the result is sort
of funny. Yeah. I'm coaching my daughter's softball last night,
so I'm out of pocket for a second. I can't

(04:15):
watch the first playing game. I'm watching the Mets Dodgers
on my phone for a second first at bat of
the game after having zero point zero home runs or RBI.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Let's just, by the way, absurd this far into the season.
I get it still early, but you mean to tell
me Francisco Lindor doesn't have one RBI the entire season.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
It's early, like mister Furley Jack. Yeah, but dude, but
he had zero Homer's zero, Ribby's first ap out of
the game off of Yamamoto, Lindor has that sweet stroke
and he hits a bomb and You're like, is he back?
Let's go Mets, And I'm like, typical the Mets w
because I'm not there. That's the only run they have

(05:03):
the whole game. They lose two to one. Like, do
you see Vessia at the end of the game with
all the nurses there celebrated. I did think of how
that would have been really awful had my Mets one
and Vessia and his wife and all those nurses would
have just been let down.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, they win two to one, So I hope you
had a Dodgers sort of night of Hornets and Trailblazer
sort tonight, not a New York Mets sort of night.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
How good were the two play in games, and Rich
on our afternoon drive show yesterday, I was giving you
crap because supposedly you start watched, Supposedly you start watching
the NBA this time of the year. But I I'm
gonna guess you didn't watch either game.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
I did not. I was watching it. I'll tell you this.
I started watching the real playoffs, like when when one
through eight shifted when one are locked in. Well, listen,
I can't be the only woman in the golden.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Post keeps the at this point, he keeps moving the
basketball hoop.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah, you know, I'm adjusting it up. Remember those adjustable
rims in the in the nineties.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Well, you know what it proves though, that the NBA,
I mean, as of this year and recently, it's not
what it was for whatever reason. Maybe we only have
room in our hearts for two major sports, and for
whatever reason, now it's football and baseball, and it will
get exciting, and it started to last night, Rich, So
I'd say start turning in.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I think right now the NBA season and the NBA
playoffs seem equally long. No, that's true, and one has
no stakes and the other one is for all the toast,
so to me. I started watching NBA come playoff time
because even the first couple of rounds they're tune ups
for teams like, okay, see whoever comes up with the
eight seed? What are they gonna get swept by the thunder? Anyway?

Speaker 2 (06:43):
That the thing, and that is true. So no knock
on Rich for whatould you watch reruns of This is
US yesterday?

Speaker 3 (06:49):
What'd you watch? What you did you watch the Greek
version This is Gus? No, by the way, I missed
that shoe. It hasn't been on for a minute.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
No, I was texting you updates though, like two minutes left.
I got to tune in now with a fiery emoji,
and I thought, Rich is still not going to toune
I had it on.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
It was.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
It was more background until the points where you hit
me up, Danny g But Rich is right. As far
as the hornets or the heat trailblazers or the suns,
are they really going all the way?

Speaker 3 (07:18):
No?

Speaker 4 (07:20):
The fact that all four teams brought it the way
they did last night and showed the passion they showed
it was fun to watch.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
You know. Well, you know what that annoys me though.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
It annoys me because you see what they're capable of,
and what these games and what these teams are capable of.
It's like your wife or girlfriend pulling out all the
tricks because.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
It's your birthday and you're like, it's my birthday.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Well, if this is what you're capable of, you know
what I mean, It's like, why not all the time?

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Like I said, the NBA, the season's too long? No,
it's like it's He's right, it's like vacation sex. You're like, whoa,
you could do that.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
So I'm aggravated, Like you get resentful, So I'm resentful
of not my relationship Rich, I'm resentful of the NBA,
my relationship with the NBA because you see how great
it could be, and you know, like, of all the
games to even play, like basketball might be my favorite,
but to watch, yeah, I like watching basketball, it's the
NBA Sometimes that frustrates me because you know, they're like

(08:13):
just going through the motions and you're reminded of that
when you see how fun and exciting it could be.
So yeah, I'm torn. When I watch those games, I'm like, yeah,
this is great. Why don't they always play like this?

Speaker 3 (08:24):
NBA playoffs they did have a little glitch on Prime
where in overtime. Yeah, towards the end of overtime during
the Heat game, they pulled the sopranos on us, like, wait,
is this what's going on? Danny? They use your favorite
phrase too.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
I hate when people get on a microphone and say
technical difficulties. Like one of my first program directors in
broadcasting said, don't ever say those words.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Please, just roll with the punches. Most of the people
won't even notice what's happening.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
Now in this case, you're you're gonna notice that the
game is not.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Anymore. But the phrase technical difficulties, like, yeah, just roll
with it. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
So they had those words really big on the Prime
screen with some cheesy music playing in the background, and
I was like, what a bad time.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Well, because it really just paints the picture of everybody
behind the scenes is frantic right now, scrambling roll, somebody's.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Getting fired, there's technical difficulties.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
And then when they returned there was twenty five seconds
left in the overtime.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
I'm like, what did I miss? What did I miss?

Speaker 6 (09:32):
That is?

Speaker 4 (09:33):
And by the way, in overtime, the Hornets did beat
the Heat one twenty seven to one twenty six frenetic
ending with LaMelo first getting the layup and then the
heat run down the court and they get back on
defense and block the shot at the backboard. It was
a crazy finish to that game.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
In overtime positives, Covino could break out his sweet Hornets
starter jacket from the nineties that he probably had in
high school. And my Raiders, yeah, just just in case
they're good this year. Didn't care about the team's sweet
starter jacket.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
And then the Blazers, by the way, came all the
way back in that second game to beat the Suns
one fourteen to a big fourth quarter heat, go home,
and then the Sun still get to live to see
another day. Do you know why that was switched around?

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Because the Flyers had the stadium, had the arena in Philadelphia,
so they had to switch around the Eastern Yeah. I uh,
we'll get the one through eight seed set up in
the next day or so. But hey, I don't know.
Do you have enough room in your sports heart to
follow three sports at once closely? It seems that we don't.
For whatever. And I say that because right now when

(10:34):
you ask me what's on my mind, Baseball and the
NFL Draft which is next week, and the NFL Draft
as it gets closer and closer, Danny, you're a Raiders
friand you got to be. You're probably you know, singing
Abba to your kid at night every now, dude, we're
a week away from that. Let me ask you this

(10:55):
Cavino not to be ady d all over the place.
It's okay, what are you looking forward to next week?
More the excitement of the NFL Draft or Michael which
hits movie theaters. I know you keep telling me you
want to go see the new Michael Jackson movie. I'm
really pumped for that movie. This guy want to go
to the theater that comes to men a couple of
years ago, but it comes out twenty fourth and I

(11:16):
am pretty pumped about that movie. It's a lot of music, obviously,
and that in itself will get you fired up in
the zone and remind you like how bad he really was.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
No, because I think my theory on that and this
is crazy. I don't even know if I should say this. No,
I think it's a great theory. Really think about this, Okay, post.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
This is a great way to start our dph Really, okay,
are you more excited about Michael?

Speaker 2 (11:45):
The Michael Jackson biopic that comes out next week. That's
not the real question.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Dude. Oh the NFL Draft. I agree, NFL draft or Michael,
that's your BS backup question. This is what give me us.
I'll say it.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
I'll say that I saw some speculation and I came
to a conclusion with all the Michael Jackson hype and
people wanting to take their kids to see this movie
and relive your childhood and relive those memories of trying
to do the.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Moonwalk in your kitchen. You show you ever show your
kids this day, if you got little kids, if you
show them any video of Michael Jackson. When we were
little kids in the eighties, they realized that everyone just
really copies Michael Jackson's dance moves. And he's also inspired
by other people too.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
I mean he he picked his moves from other people,
but he perfected them. And you know, he changed pop music.
He was the king of pop. He is still the
king of pop. No one's dethroned him, not even close.
So we grew up in the time of the Three Michaels,
very fortunate kids. It really doesn't get better than Mike Dythan,

(12:53):
Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, But when you think about how
demographics did not apply to Michael Jackson, they just didn't.
Everybody black or white pun intended kept fourth Michael young
or old.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Sure, Doc Michael J. Fox. If you're gonna add a
fourth Michael in the eighties, I think I say Michael Lindon. Michael.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
He was on TV Guide every week. Michael Lindon, I
mean Little house Man high Way to Heaven.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
All right.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
When you think, when you really think about Michael Jackson,
I used to stare at that cover of Thriller, like
I want to be that guy. I want that glove,
I want those socks, I want that jacket, I want
to do the moonwalk. I don't think there's been a
man as popular since. In fact, I'll go as far

(13:46):
as to say as after Jesus Christ himself. After Jesus,
Michael Jackson might be the number two most popular man
to ever walk this earth. I'm not comparing the two.
Let's make that very clear. Yes, okay, Jesus is my guy.

(14:07):
You come up with the phrase Jesus is my homie. Yeah,
I have a T shirt and everything Jesus. But I
don't think there's been a man as popular to walk
this earth since Danny. He said this, and I was
like you in world leaders, but people aren't fanatical about them.
People aren't fainting and screaming at them and worshiping them.

(14:30):
You know, there's very popular people to have walked the earth,
but not like they were for Michael Jackson. One man, Jesus,
then Michael Jackson, and then you can fill in the
blanks after that.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
I thought about it because I wanted to make fun
of him. But the more you think about it, international, yo,
the third might be Michael Jordan.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
I argued that are we talking as Jesus or as
a doctor.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
As Jesus? Yes?

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yes, Like I said, you could make an argument for
world leaders too, but they're polarizing. They don't apply to everybody, dude.
People that lived in huts loved and worshiped Michael Jackson,
little kids, old people, black, white.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
He transcended generation and demographic. That's my point. The argument
Cavino made was, you know, even if you bring up
they like the current day comparison of Taylor Swift beat it.
There's no grown man digging her music, especially no grown
brown guy who likes women. But that's the truth. You
always bring her up but I'm about to speak and
then just freight trake. Won't you cry about it? Bro

(15:37):
is sixteen minutes in.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Wow, you want to do the next two and a
half hours by yourself. I'll go home, I'll go back
to sleep. Yeah, I'm sure everybody thrilled about it. I
said the current day example of Taylor Swift. I was
actually gonna say that before he cut me off. Cavino
has made the point that, yeah, like middle aged.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Black men don't love Tailor Swift, that she It's not
like Michael Jackson was demographic proof. And I hate to
say it. I'm not a huge Michael Jackson fan. I
liked him as atlle kid. I thought he had good music.
I'm not like some MJ guy same. But I don't
have posters of him in my room. I don't think
I ever have. But Covino's right, and that your grandma,
little white kid, little Indian kid, Latino black. Michael Jackson

(16:22):
really was this oddly universally popular person. And when you
said most famous person since Jesus, I left at first,
but then I'm like, oh, who's the answer. Then it's
not like a pope, because that that's very divisive. You
know with the religion still people, it's not a president,
it's not I was like Michael Jordan's logo. I was

(16:44):
like in the sports world, I think Michael Jordan's your
number one answer. Some might say Babe Ruth or Muhammad Ali.
I think Michael Jordan is arguably one of the most
famous humans ever. But like Nelson Mandela, Yeah, but like
there's a little kid though who Nelson mandelasaical about him
because anyone, like I can go like, does anyone does
there anyone have a foam finger? That says Mandela?

Speaker 2 (17:03):
But yeah, there's a lot of people that are known
on that level, Sam, but like they're not no one's
really fanatical about them.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Change presidents, change world leaders. You could say someone evil
like a Hitler or Mussolini or something like that, but
that they're evil and hated. We're talking about like universally
known and it's a very interesting question. Who's the most
famous person ever? And with the Michael Jackson movie coming
out next week, it's crazy to think he might be

(17:31):
he and I think Michael Jordan might be close behind
because there's not a kid that since he's been since
he's been on the scene, there's not a person on
earth that doesn't know who Michael Jordan is. My five
year old son has Jordan's. He has a little Michael
Jordan little jersey. Like everyone knows who Michael Jordan is.

(17:51):
That brand is a multi billion dollar brand. We'll think
of it this way. Danny's you a year? Did he retire?
I'll look it up right now. Michael Jordan ninety No, No,
he still has a popular sneaker. That's what's crazy about it.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Yeah, you know what I mean, Like people are still
rocking his Jordans still number one, still rock in his jersey.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
You go to, you go to. I was in the
Dominican Republican hasn't played in the league in thirty years.
I was in the Dominican Republic with my wife, not
big Poppy. That was a different trip. You'll poppy, And
what does every hotel have? You go with me? What
does every resort have tonight? It's Michael Jackson Knight in
the lobby, Michael Jackson Knight. It's like it's you know, yeah,
it's it's an absurd thought. So to answer your question, yeah,

(18:32):
am I excited about the NFL Draft? Yeah? Yeah, But
you know what I'm.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Really excited to do, like go to the theater, which again,
like Rich already said, it takes a lot to get
people to the theater nowadays.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Well, yeah, everyone else is back. But you said Mario
Brothers is gonna be a billion dollar Mandy, I like
Rich sud I didn't even see Maverick in theaters. I
want to go. My girlfriend's like, let's go. I think
everybody wants to go, or maybe not. You know, maybe
maybe you're that one person that's being reluctant. That's fine,
there's always exceptions to the rule. But I think this
is going to be a monster movie. I think it's uh.

(19:09):
I think it's gonna be a big one. And to
answer that the other silly question, what are you more
excited about the NFL drafter? Michael? You know what the
NFL draft I'm excited about because I'm curious to see
what a lot of teams do. But I'm still I'm
still sticking strong with my Fernanda Mendoz is making a
terrible mistake by staying home with his family.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Ah, get off.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Then I thought about it more. You know what's funny.
I saw one of the one of the parents at
my daughter's softball game and the like I was watching
some of your eclips with Cavino. You gotta do a
great job. I'm like, hey, thanks, And they specifically said
I agree with you, by the way a bat Mendoza.
I'm like, oh, what is sure?

Speaker 2 (19:46):
They really wanted to approach you with the confrontation saying
that your take was whack no.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
But I was like, I forgot for a second, what
was my take on mendoz And they go staying home.
I go, oh, yeah, I believe that wholeheartedly, says the
guy that didn't even walk to get his diploma.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
This guy would rather spend time. He doesn't need all
the riff raff and pomp and circumstance when it comes
to getting drafted. He already knows he wants to spend
it with his family. He's a family guy. Comes from
a long line of Mendoza's, and that sounds like a
great time family.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Everything anything comes from ever, comes from a long lot
of Mendozas. Everyone comes from a long line of whatever
their name is. We've made this point. How many people
are showing up at your family reunion? Seven?

Speaker 2 (20:26):
This guy has eight hundred family relatives in the in
the Cubano area of Florida where he's going to celebrate
and enjoy this moment speaking of it. That's way more
important and impactful than giving Cadella hug and putting on
a weak hat, which, by the way, I don't know
if I should bend this brim or not. I'm having
new hat anxiety as we speak, looking at myself on

(20:47):
the camera. Who I said I could land a plane
on this first first of my Fernando Rod I was
gonna say, what's with the tilt?

Speaker 3 (20:53):
I mean, what are you a twenty five year old
while player from the.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
Dominican leave me alone? Do I bend the brim or not?
I don't know that's that's not a brid but it
looks so flat on his screen right now. Yeah, put
it down a little bit.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
I don't know, bro. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
All right, Well, anyway, you know what, let's talk about
that too. Michael comes out next week. You got the
NFL draft, I do want to talk about. Let's let's
talk about I do want to talk about the w
NBA draft of all things, because there's a there's a
story that no one's talking about, and they should be.
There's lots to get to on the show Midweek, Major

(21:30):
and More, Cavino and Rich in for the Great Dan
Patrick Day one of the DP three.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
All right, now, there is a lot to celebrate this summer.
Keep it classic with Miller Light. Whether you're toasting the
birth of our nation, it says.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Keep it classic, but I say keep it classy, Miller Light.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
Our soccer team scoring a big goal, or just a
beautiful warm evening on the deck in the yard by
the pool.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
I'll tell you what, man on fire pit, It's Miller
time in America, Miller time. And if Rich is having
a cookout, Rich always has people over.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
I'm dipping into the cooler. That's my first choice, by far.
It is.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
If I'm going for a beer, miller Light is where
it's at. You know, No, I taste great.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
The draft less filling the draft always feels like the
start of summer for a lot of football fans. So
this is a great reason to get together with buds
this year. The Dan Patrick Show. Who we're filling in
for What's Up DP. They're broadcasting guy from Pittsburgh and
Miller Light is the partner, their partner, so they'll be
there showing the guys some love over the next week

(22:35):
we'll be watching the picks debating who got it right,
who got it wrong, and Miller lights will be in hand.
The old, reliable, clean crisp, easy to drink, especially when
the night goes along.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
You got to have it in a cafino and rich
COOZI though even cooler, right, clean crisp, easy to drink,
especially when the night goes long.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
I just said that, yeah, buddy, I think it's worth repeating, though,
that it's been a go to for fifty years. A
true American hills there since nineteen seventy five. Miller time
is always a good time, and the American summer starts
with an all American beer. Millerlicho to millerlike dot com

While you do, I wanted to shout out some ginger
dude I saw in the sauna yesterday, started small talking
with me and he's like, Yo, what do you do?

Speaker 5 (24:45):
Man?

Speaker 3 (24:46):
And I was sure he's gonna love the way you
described him. Yeah, why did you start with that some
chubby ginger dude? Not a man, just a man. I'm
not a ginger. I'm a strawberry blonde. So he's like,
what do you doing. I was like, you know, I'm
a talking of yappie guy, as you know, no kidding,
but I wasn't in I was not in the mood
to be small talking. But he's like, what do you do?

(25:08):
And I go, Hey, I work in broadcasting. In fact,
tomorrow morning, I'm filling it for Dan Patrick, who goes
I listen to DP every morning. I go, then you'll
hear me. Have a good day. So, hey, Red, you
know random ginger I saw the sauna. What's up, dude.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
I'm sure he's happy to hear that you said he
looked like little Lord for Nanny. He's like Ed Sheeran's
ugly brother. I'm sure he's really talked about it. And
by the way, if I said blame it on the
what would the number one response be, Blame it on
the rain, alcohol or rain.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
Blame it on the goose, blaming on the boogie, Blame
it on the boat. In the decade, name it.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
It's a generational question, right, I would go rain as well,
even though we're talking Michael Jackson, Blame it on the boogie,
and look, we have a lot to get.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
To and then when we were adults, blame it on
the alcohol. Blame it on the alcohol.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
We're laughing the Fox Sports Radio studio and the picks
are coming in. But Draft Knight isn't just about who
gets called rich. It's about who shows up.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
So greb your crew, crack a Miller light and be
there for every moment that matters. Miller Light. Legendary moments
start with the light. And speaking of legendary draft moments,
Danny G's dude, well not yet, but soon to me,
Danny G's dude, Fernando Mendoza can't wait to watch him

(26:28):
on the field. The raid is his first misstep. A
guy that has done a guy that has done nothing wrong,
a guy that has a beautiful story with his mother
and family, a guy that has a beautiful story of
a team that gave up on him. He then leaves
goes to a school with zero football history, makes him
a national champion and wins on the field of the

(26:51):
team that.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Said later, Yeah, but what makes him so likable the
fact that he's a mama's boy, the fact that he
seems to be an all American family sort of kid.
He seems very grounded and humble, and I think that's
why he won the hearts of so many people. So
for him to make this choice, I feel like it's
on brand. And that choice is to stay home and
celebrate with his family next week, and as we approach

(27:14):
the draft, you know, I think it comes to mind again.
Next week's a crazy week. We already said Michael comes out, which,
by the way I look, he, in my opinion, is
the most popular person to ever moonwalk this earth. How
about that since Jesus Christ? And there's a call about this,
because you know, I'd love to see, Well, who do

(27:35):
you think is more popular than Michael Jackson in our lifetime?

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Shakespeare? How about like Elvis?

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Maybe previously I would say, yeah, but I don't think
he transcended. It wasn't global demos the way Michael Jackson
did right TV wasn't as much of a thing. But
Elvis would be up there. But again, along with Michael
is the draft, So we got to talk about Fernando
Mendoza's choice to stay home or going to do that next.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
But let's take this phone. As Danny said, people have
people have softened up on it, and I have not.
So don't you are because you're a raging lunatic.

Speaker 4 (28:09):
Travis and Los Angeles wasted the weigh in on the
Michael Jackson thing.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
Trav, you're not the redhead of Gindre so at the
gym yesterday?

Speaker 7 (28:15):
Are you? I'm not?

Speaker 8 (28:18):
But I remember when you guys were talking about when
you see someone that looks like a dollar star version
of a celebrity and you kind of change the name
a little bit, like Ted Sheeran or whatever.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
Yeah he was ned cheering. What's up, dude?

Speaker 8 (28:33):
But yeah my other one you the Elvis One's good?
But uh the Beatles. Also, Oh wait, one more thing
before I before I go for the Michael movie, I
want to see Dan Byer go dressed up as Michael
Jackson movie.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Dan Byers a fan. I think that's that's weird. Dream.
You don't know who's talking about Dan Byer? Does our updates?
Did you just give us your fantasy sounds hot. I
want to see I want to see Dan Byer dressed
in Michael Jackson here love after a Benny Hanna date.
You want to see Dan Byron only a sequence glove,
all right? So, Mendoza, we talked about it a while back,

(29:10):
everyone touched on it. But now that we're a week
and a day from the NFL Draft, teams are really
going over their notes. You know, fans are starting to figure, uh,
we're gonna have some new people on our squad in
a week. It's gonna be fun. And watching someone walk
through that endorsement laden tunnel, throwing on their hat, holding

(29:34):
up the jersey, hugging Commissioner Goodell in front of thousands
of people this time in Pittsburgh is a moment. In fact,
you should cue up. You should cue up a moment
like this by Kelly Clarkson because that's how beautiful it is.
It's a moment that lives forever. You see the highlights,
you see the grainy footage of all the drafts over

(29:56):
the years, and Fernando Mendoza is opting to stay at
home with his family. It's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
That's beautiful your priorities, that's beautiful, that's beautiful.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Get out of my face. That's a cool moment.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Maybe for you, it means more to this kid to
stay home and celebrate with his family he has. And
maybe because he has a big, beautiful family and Rich,
you're a guy, And this is no knock. Rich has
no cousins, He has no idea what it's like to
have like a big family surrounding him.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
And yeah, he can.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Go and party with him later on, but to be
there in that moment with his family is what matters
to him. This is his decision, this is his moment.
It doesn't matter what you think. And I said it
before and this was no joke. There was a story
when I think when the championship happened, like right around
that time. You're getting the backstory of f Nando Mendoza
and why he is who he is. And he's a

(30:49):
proud Cuban kid who comes from I said, a long
life of Mendoza's.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
This is no exaggeration. Well, if he's a lot from
a long one of Mendoza's, could he hit up Mets
manager Carlo Mendoza and kick him in the ass? Could
you kick that guy?

Speaker 2 (31:00):
As a little bit of yeah, this is a true story.
I'm not making this up because I was blown away
by this because the last time I had a real
family reunion was like nineteen eighty something at some field
in New Jersey.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
What are you, Adam Goldberg? And it was nineteen eighty something.
It really was. When's the last time you had a
block party or a family reunion? I think eighty nine?

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Yeah, exactly, Like these things don't really exist. But every
four years, as the story went, every four years, the
Mendozas get together for a family reunion. And guess how
many people show up to this Mendoza family reunion.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
One hundred and fifty, No, over eight hundred. And I
know that sounds absurd. That are gonna start asking him
for money.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Yeah, when you come from an immigrant family, you got
five you got five thousand dollars, and you're tight knit
and you have all these family members.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Yeah, that sounds like a great time.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
And what's he supposed to do, Uh, bring to hundred
of those people to them because.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
I got a business opportunity you can't pass up. She's
supposed to.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
Hop on a plane with a you know, even a
quarter of those people he doesn't know for this celebration.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
Yeah, show me the nil money cause they all know him. Yeah,
but he doesn't know all them. And listen, the NFL Draft.
Let me give you my point, and then you could
He doesn't have to you can ramble on about all
these eight hundred irrelevant people. What's cool about the NFL
Draft for the people that stay at home in the
later rounds because I know, not everyone goes. But when

(32:30):
you see some dude that comes from not much and
he's there with his mom and they're sitting on their
weak ass old couch and their old cabinets in the
background in the kitchen, you could see there's a there's
a level of spontaneity. I don't know where I'm going, Carolina, Dallas,
New York, San Francisco. They could end up a Viking,

(32:53):
they could end up a lion. They don't know. There's
a level of spontaneity of like, you know, I got
a call from coach and there's like a moment that
is a family embrace moment. Fernando Mendoza, there's this is
not like a gender reveal, like it's a boy. There's
no surprise here. He's going number one to the Raiders.

(33:13):
He can rent out a Vegas hotel and have a
big party for the Mendoza clan that weekend. But on
Thursday you're telling me he can't be in Pittsburgh for
an hour. You know, they were to accommodate his lovely,
beautiful mother and and whoever he needs in the front,
just to be there for the fun optics of the
NFL where thousands are in attendance and millions are watching.

(33:37):
You're telling me with noing, he can but not for you.
It's not about you. You basically just said he can't
have a party unless it's a surprise party. Well, dude, Danny,
I think the spontaneity of being around your family in
that moment is like the surprise layer. Like, shame on you.

(34:01):
They can't get fooled together.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
No, not that I'll saying, like, no one ever dies
saying they wish they worked more, or whatever you think,
anyone dies wishing they hugged Goodell. Get out of my face.
Family is everything. That's who he's choosing to spend it with.
You think he's ever gonna bro I actually have this thought,
you know, as my parents get older and died saying
they Huggodell. No they're gonna say, I wish I spent

(34:23):
more time with my family, because that's what means everything.
So why are you on this guy's beanbag about this? Like,
get off it already, you are and not just rich
rich just speaking on behalf of a lot.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Of pee who called me you stupidly will occasionally call
me double talking Dickie, Like, oh, you said this and
then you said the exact time. I'm not trying to
change your mind. I'm just trying to make my point.
You just said spending time with Famili's most important.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
It is.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
Meanwhile, yesterday on our afternoon show and you could listen
to the podcast, this guy was adamant as to why
does Mike Trout stay in Anaheim? And I'm like, cause
he's got two beautiful little kids and he has a
mansion on the beach in Newport And was like, you
should how about Stanton Anaheim? And Chill he's from New Jersey.
The Angels stink.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yeah, So yeah, I think I stand my ground on
that he could still go and see his family.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
He's got plenty of money to do that. He doesn't
have to move. Yeah, but you don't think there's something
you wouldn't want to see him. You want to want
to see all shucks Mendoza holding up to jersey doesn't matter. Yes,
sure that would be cool, But I also think it's
cool to see. I think it might even tug the
heartstrings a little more to see him being embraced by
the people that matter most his choice. It's not about
what I want to see.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
This is his moment, and I also think this This
kid is so committed to football you can't question his commitment.
And yes, so my point is, if this is his
one last moment he wants to celebrate with them before
he dedicates the rest of his adult life to the NFL,
let him have it.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
Because every I think, every.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Breathing moment moving forward, he's going to be dedicated to
this team.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
I believe in his commitment that way.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
So he wants to have this one last moment the
people that brought him there, share that moment with them,
and then commit and dedicate his.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Time to good down the Raiders and everything else.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Rich That's the one thing I will say, because I
as a Raiders fan, I would love to see him
there holding up the Raider jersey and putting the hat on.
But this kind of fits his personality because he's a
selfless dude, always about team. That's why, that's what it gets.
But that's what first put him on even your radar.
Remember his fid like game, him going off postgame talking

(36:28):
about how much he loves his teammates and tearing up
and all that. And at the pro day for Indiana,
what did he do. He didn't want the spotlight on him.
He was getting his receivers and personnel ready so that
they could shine and get their moment in the NFL.
So just kind of fits his personality.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
You know, yeah, you're not wrong, d you We're just
speaking on behalf of the majority of people probably like
what come on?

Speaker 3 (36:50):
Well, but again, it's just not about you, that's him.
Let it be clear. I'm not backpedaling one bit. But
there's one way that this could be like, okay, cool
compromise if a bro, what are you moonwalking? He there's
one way this could be made right, you know what?

(37:12):
And I'll tell you hel Mendoza makes it all good.
We'll get to that. Plus a very scary yet almost
not comical, but an injury in Major League Baseball. We're
gonna get to a little update on Diana Rossini and
coach Rabel. And there's a story in the WNBA that
is so under the radar that should be like the

(37:33):
lead story everywhere. Yeah, I said it, There's a WNBA
story that should be the lead everywhere. You heard me, right?

Speaker 3 (37:56):
The NFL Draft, wee get a day away? Can you
believe that? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (38:04):
I'm excited for next week Man and the Michael Jackson movie.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
O'May I might go to the theater two months in
the row.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
That's big for me. I've never returned since COVID. You're
that guy.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
I go to the movies all the time, my kiddos. Yeah,
but that's why you go. You got little nose pickers.
I want to go Mario Galaxy two weeks ago. My
sixteen year old daughter doesn't necessarily want to go to
movie's dad anymore that much, But I'm gonna go.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
I'm gonna go see the he he Man next week
and then the and then he Man the month after.
I think that's when the new he Man and the
Mary Covino and rich in for Dan Patrick.

Speaker 8 (38:45):
Day.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
One of the Dan Patrick hatrick is tax Day, Taxes
the worst.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
Part of the game. Well, you know what, we got
a lot of feedback about Mendoza. We talked about this
like a month ago, but now that we're a week out,
just the idea of Mendoza sitting out, staying home for
the NFL Draft. I'm an adamant believer that this guy
just going there, walking through the tunnel, putting on the
Raiders hat, hugging Goodell, going through those motions will mean

(39:11):
a lot to the NFL. And it's a moment. It's
a visual. The only way Mendoza can make this right,
Danny I said, I have one way, if they somehow
have a legit camera crew at his house. But with
like cool Mendoza packages put together, maybe he does a
special bit where he brings people through the family house

(39:32):
and shows like this is my high school jersey and
I'm here with my mom.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
And he used to worry about Mendoza's package. Dude, it's
gonna be great.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
I'm just yeah, it is.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Rich You already know that these the two TV broadcasts
of this are licking their chops over how they're gonna
cover him there with his big families.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
Absolutely, it's gotta be something either funny or heartwarming. It
can't just be him like you know, on his uh
living spaces couch with his mom, you know, with a
you know, coffee cake on the table behind them, like, hey,
we're at the Mendoza house. Like, it's got to be
something a little extra. He's in number one. Pick a

(40:12):
generational guy, lovable his mother, a beautiful story and.

Speaker 4 (40:16):
Well he's not really a showy, extra kind of guy,
so don't get your hopes on that.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
All right, Well, hey, let's go to your feedback Cavino
rich and for Dan Patrick, should Mendoza be there? And again,
there's no surprise, That's my biggest point. There's no layer
of surprise here. He's going number one. There's no spontaneity
in tears. Oh my god, we're going with the cowboys.
Oh my god, the honey, they drafted you to the giants?
Like does none of that? I'm sure how that matters

(40:40):
when he just wants to be with his family. Yeah,
for me, that's even more reason to.

Speaker 4 (40:44):
Not go all right, let's start with I don't get
that either. Let's start with Sonny and Laguna Beach.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Honny, what up, Sonny? Nobody?

Speaker 6 (40:55):
How are you up?

Speaker 3 (40:56):
Hi?

Speaker 6 (40:58):
Listen, I'm like HERD Raider fan. My dad was going
back to Kenny Stabler and John Madden. We all know
where Fernando's going. We all understand. Yeah, we love him
to be in Chittsburgh. But and this is a hard part.
I have a lovely neighbor, a woman who has ms.

(41:22):
She does the absolute best she can. Every day. She thinks,
one day, yes, tomorrow, I'm going to do this, no
matter how hard it is. The next day, her mind
still says yeah, but the body says no. Fernando's the
kind of son that's looking out for that and wants

(41:43):
to be with her as much as it possibly gets
when you say it like that.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Maybe doesn't want to burden her, Maybe doesn't want to
make that the story, so just says he wants to
be with his family.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
Yeah, we know the travel for his mom is difficult. Well,
now maybe I'll feel bad, thanks, Sonny.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
That's what you get rich to see him hug Goodell
so bad that he's screaming about it.

Speaker 3 (42:02):
I want to seem tickle. You wants to see him
have a tickle fight on stage. Let's talk to John
and Maine. What's up John? Hey guys, John, you want
to want to make me feel bad too with somebody?

Speaker 7 (42:16):
Well, yeah, because you know I agree with funny. I
know people who have had men a stat that he's
this no joke and to take her to Pittsburgh. You
only say it's only for an hour, but the minute
they get off that plane, they're going to be swarmed
with reporters and everything, and it is gonna that'd be

(42:39):
not I lose that.

Speaker 3 (42:40):
I lose this battle.

Speaker 7 (42:42):
Well.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
It's funny changes, though, because when we first talked about this,
Danny G's right, Everyone's like, he's crazy, You're not going.
But once it starts to sink in, you're like, oh,
maybe he's right. Well today and a week away, so
buckle up, buttercups. We're all excited about the NFL draft,
also excited about the NBA playoffs kicking in.

Speaker 3 (43:02):
We'll get to that. Plus in about an hour. We
are joined by coach Ballgame, which is one of our
good pals. Great dude, we'll talk to Baseball and a
bunch More. CNR can be known rich In for the
