Speaker 2 (00:55):
Got a lot this hour midweek major with I was
Sam Coldstone. Mike is coming in to give us his
hot takes. He runs his place, but uh, first not
only do we rock out, we get back to this
really interesting subject. I think with Verlander retiring today, he's
one of the last. If you're in your forties, there
are guys you've clung onto, the tom Brady's, the Aaron Rodgers,
(01:16):
the Lebrons, the Verlanders, because once they all retire, there's
no longer a guy older than you in sports. These
are the last of a generation. And Verlander announced earlier
that he's just gonna chill with his hot wife Kate
Upton and after the season call quits. So one of
those one of those not old guy. We're calling him
(01:36):
grown fellow. What are we?
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Grown folk?
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Grown folk?
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Grown folks? You've taken a liking to. I've already said
some titles. I've said documentaries, but I say, I feel
like they've gotten a lot better, and keep saying.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
You keep saying subtitles, while that is what they are.
Close captioning. You're into close capturing subtitles. If it was
like a foreign film.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Both, yeah, close captioning subtitles. I like him both see
button yeah yeah, I thought say see Sabbathia. I thought
he popped up when I pressed it.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
You know, I'll give you I'll give you a you know,
a a grown guy reference that I make that every
time you record something, you gotta stop. I find myself
using the word tape once in a while, like did
you tape that?
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Oh? Yeah, that's just yeah, that's an old guy mistake.
I can't say that you're not taping anything.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
You're a kid. You're a kidd the eighties or nineties.
You can't catch yourself telling your kids like, oh did
you tape it?
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Did you know? No one tapes anything? Well, Rich, I
really taking things.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
You know, a lot of my conversations with you are
you know, they're I don't want to say, like being
the dad or dad conversation is a grown folk thing.
But ninety percent of conversations with Rich they went from
like booty cheeks, like chasing booty in the early two thousands,
to like coaching Little League. Right, So that's been a
big difference.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Well, I talk about things I'm good at. I was
good at chasing Booty, I'm good at coaching right right.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I mean, okay, so I guess the team is the same,
you know, whatever Rich is good at. But I feel
like you talk a lot about your your hot lately
and a lot of your hobbies are like grown folk hobbies.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I'll give you a couple. Honestly, coaching kids is like
my biggest interest in the world. And that's definitely like
a middle aged dad thing. Like to me, coaching kids
number one conversation I have number two. I care so
much about my lawn and flowers it's unbelievable. Like, honestly,
I'm out there every day with the hands on the
hips making sure my grass is looking good, and I'm
(03:27):
trimming my flowers. Stuff that I never thought I would
care about, curb appeal and my garden, like just that's
that's my grown man thing.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
It's an adjustment, it really is, because I'm used to
this guy. He used to be a fake boob expert rich.
He used to tell me all about them all the time.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
And by the way, now I can look at someone
and say, gummy there, silicon, or say now he calls
me up to.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Tell me about his rose garden. I'm not even joking you,
and I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's just
something I just recommended.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
There's a place on Covino's balcony where I'm like, the
lantanas would look nice there, like you.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Could grow something that you can have a little garden here.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Hey, I love beauty.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Curb appeals is a wonderful thing, but it's definitely some
grown folks.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
I'll give you another grownro.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
In Cove's living room. There's a spot where cage dancers
could go. No, he used to, I used to have that,
now grown.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Diddy, g I'm I'm I don't know this. I think
this is like a middle aged dad thing too. I
care very much about my outdoor cooking area, like grilling
and making sure that's set ups nice. These are things
that like when you're a younger man, you don't care
about your grilling area as much.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
To Our parents used to torture us by bringing us
to places like home Depot for hours and as little kids,
we're stuck in there, Like what am I going to
do here?
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Now? Rich goes there.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Depot as a hobby. Yeah, I could walk around Home
Depot like I walked out the strip club in Vegas
in the two thousands. Hey, looking around at all the
things I want?
Speaker 1 (04:47):
We got Coldstone, Steve Austin here, he has something to
say about this.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
You know what gets me?
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Mike has grown so he's perfect for this condtion.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Well, yeah, I've been doing stupid grown man stuff for
a long time. It's been a long time since I've
been close to the age of a professional athlete. But
getting up early in the morning, that's something that as
an old guy, I'm so much more enjoying than when
I was a younger man. I forget it. Man, I'm
sleeping until noon all day every day, and he Mike watch.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Out and gets his newspaper at five am. Yeah, early,
and you appreciate how long the day feel like a
sunrise to me is just it's part of that. It's
part of that.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
Mike, Like, you just can't sleep well as you get older,
and you're like, I sleep great, Like you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Tell me this is going a couple of time in
my future where waking up to film for Dan Patrick,
isn't it?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Is it? Like, oh, maybe if that's true, that's great news.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
Maybe yeah, yeah, my dad goes to bed at like
my dad goes to bed at like eight pm and
he wakes up at like five am. Like I'm like,
it's I don't get it, but maybe it's an old
guy thing.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
That's what I work.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
I was saying. I worked at a cards and gift
store in high school, like a Hallmark store where they
sell you know, I sold cigarettes and lottery tickets to
like senior citizens. That was essentially my my high school
gig right and Cavino when I tell you, I'd get
there as a seventeen year old, like miserable at six
in the morning. There was a line of old people
waiting like like, can you of a newspaper? My daily
(06:08):
numbers and my lucky strikes? Like it was, Yeah, I
guess when you get older, your your clock shifts.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Right, Yeah, But we're not saying old, They're just saying grown,
all right. Grown eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
is the number eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
To chime in again, it's the Verlander tribute. He's forty
three plus. He was the oldest guy in sports. He
announced his retirement. Twenty one plus years.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
In the league.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
He had two hundred and sixty six wins, one hundred
and fifty nine losses, a career era of three three
three three plus three three.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
So just just more proof that with the world of
five six inning starts and you know, just a different
game of baseball. The fact that Verlands there's not a
three hundred game winner, just proves that we're never going
to see one again.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Most likely not. No, So based on Verlander, the grown
folks stuff you've been taking the liking to us, time
goes out, Oh, most likely not.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
I'm not trying to way the conversation, but I would
say absolutely not, because if a guy like Paul Skins
or Scooble can't ever get the twenty just based on
the way the game is, then who's.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I can never say never, But yeah, I mean it
looks that way, for sure, it looks that way. You
know what can I tell you the first time I
realized that my buddies were getting a little more grown.
It doesn't really go with this conversation, but was really
it was like a life changing moment. I'll never forget it.
I never shared this on Fox Sports Radio. Oh boy,
my buddy Barry, who he called Barnando because he loved
(07:28):
Hispanic women. So he's like, bro, can you call me
Barnando around the Hispanic chicks?
Speaker 2 (07:33):
True story?
Speaker 1 (07:33):
True story. So his name is Barry, but we called
him Barnando. I would call him up all the time, like, man,
you see the Yankees tonight dude, oh man, you see
that Jeeter bro at that play? You know you havn't
just regular young guy conversations. One time I called him
up and I was like, dude, man, did you see
I'll fall so sorry on no Bro, and all right,
(07:54):
forget maybe Robbie. It might have been Robbie Cano. Dude,
you see Robbie Cano.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Oh boy?
Speaker 1 (07:59):
He said this. I'm not even kidding. He's like, Bro,
can I call you back?
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Bro?
Speaker 1 (08:02):
I was like, why, man, you watching the game? He goes,
I'm busy. I'm like, busy doing what because I'm soaking
my roods. I was like, I'm sorry, what because soaking
my rights? Bro? I'm like, what do you do? Are
you taking a bath?
Speaker 2 (08:16):
What do you mean?
Speaker 1 (08:17):
And then I just like I hung up the phone
and I was like, That's when I knew life was changing.
That was the key moment that I knew, like my
youth was was slipping, and life was changing, and conversations
would never be the same again.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
When your first friend got hem, road's good, it's good, good,
good one weird.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
I've never I've never had a problem continuing a phone
conversation while I'm soaking my rights. I'm just saying why
you talk on the phone moment.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
It's kind of in line with the one I was
going to say, and I think Erlanders probably experienced it
this season. He said in his letter that this year
has been challenging for him.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
He's got rights.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
How about when you make loud.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Noises when you get up or you sit down, get
and you're like, oh, you.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Know what, though, we gotta that ties into Erlander. We
gotta stay on track because that's old guy stuff. We're
talking grown folks, stuff that you enjoy. You enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
I got a few. I want to add a few
more to the list, and we'll take your feedback and
then we'll get to Mike's hot take. That's gonna burn
down the place. Okay, is it weird that I'm I'm
leaning towards like I might investigate pickleball?
Speaker 5 (09:30):
Nah?
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yeah, I mean I get it, I get it.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
How about this one? My interest in ancestry has gone up.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
That's a good one. Yeah, that's some grown folks.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
I'm like.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Your interest in short sleeve button downs too, Like I
noticed that lately.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Can we go back real quick to soaking the roids?
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Sam Jame wants to chime in.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
I'll be forty in October, and like I'm already thinking
all the time about inflammation and how to reduce inflammation.
I'm like, damn, I soyannack arthritis because I suffer from
that and it sucks. And I'm like, what can I
do to reduce in you know, cut down on this.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
I'll give you. I'll give you Barnando's number. You guys
could talk about it. You're gonna you're gonna be forty.
We got a couple a couple of years on you.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
I'll tell you what a couple of years back, when
I was around your age, Cavino will back me up.
I would bitch and complain. It was the first time
I got plantar fasciotis on my foot, and I.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Started ripping talking about it non stop.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Well, you know, like Danny, because my foot was killed
me thank on, My feet are fine now. But I
remember being like, is this what happens when you turn forty?
And I remember I was scoping out like Brooks and
hookahs and all these comfort shoes. I was like putting
aside by Jordan's. I would say, comfort shooes.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
The tie in is like you're choosing comfort and like
and appreciating it over like function over fashion kind of right,
some rock ports? Yeah yeah, Rich is like, yeah, you know,
maybe rock parts are good. Idea rock ports are good.
Idea quality shoes, quality shoe.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
Here, Hey, guys, just to report, Dylan cees his no
hit bid broken up Elli and Raum single to lead
off the ninth But at least they sent him out
there to try for it.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Rob it's our radio show's fault for mentioning. Weinxed it anymore, Rich,
drone folks stuff that you're into?
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Hey, I love Do you have any grown folks things
I feel like? I loow? Probably U like birdwatching or something?
Speaker 1 (11:16):
I low?
Speaker 2 (11:16):
What's up? What's what's the what's the? As you get older,
you find yourself enjoying.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
How do you know about the bird watching thing?
Speaker 1 (11:23):
You know this because he does cron watching on the side,
that's right.
Speaker 6 (11:27):
Do you know that Ian Fleming got the name for
James Bond after a famous ornithologist named James Bond. By
the way, but on the other side of big mics,
I enjoy not only getting up early, but going to
bed early. We go to bed at nine pm.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Can you believe that?
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Wow?
Speaker 6 (11:45):
Yeah, you get a discount Early Bird.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Special Dandy g is the as the joke goes, uh,
the time you used to leave for the club, you
want to be in bed by that time.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Now, what I enjoy that seems to be like an
old lady sort of thing. Not to be sexist and agis,
but like walks, even a walk around the mall once
in a while, like you know, walks or I really
appreciate them, though in a different way though, Sam, You know,
like I think.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Because you carry five pound waits while you do it.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah, yeah, with my butt increasing student mall. Yeah, powerwalk.
So anyway, what are some more grown folk things you
catch yourself enjoying as we pay tribute to Verlander? You
can chime in at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. Now,
while you're on social media, there's an account on x
called Mike who runs this? Yeah, Mike, that's his ex account,
(12:39):
that's his Twitter at Mike who runs this And every
Wednesday he comes in and he has a take. So
let's get into.
Speaker 7 (12:46):
It, microphone assassin, It's time for Mike who runs this take?
Speaker 5 (12:51):
Who think Mike may get to be in charge of
the segment, but he still doesn't run this place.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
He really doesn't even run this segment when you think
about it, because this Mike could be turned off by
Sam at any more.
Speaker 7 (13:01):
That may be true, but Big Mike does get to
pick the topic and then seeing our offer their strong
opinions on it. Consider it a warm up to Midweek
Major Mike who rubs this take?
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Who? Mike? Also?
Speaker 3 (13:14):
People, what up?
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Mike cold Stone? Steve Austin cold Stone? Mike is here
and if you want to see why we call him that,
just chiming on YouTube now at Covino and Rich FSR.
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Buddy?
Speaker 1 (13:25):
You start calling me old Stone, old stone Stone.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
That's old old Stone. There is.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Giving yourself your own nickname.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Yeah you are, no Mike's got Mike's beard is thicker
than Stone Cold's. It's like he's much fuller.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
I'm working on my growing I'm working on my Santi beer.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Yeah yeah, he was kind of little guy. Okay, you
are growing it out. I noticed that, all right?
Speaker 3 (13:46):
So today on Mike Who runs this take, we are
talking about affecting an accent. You guys, you guys have
any good accents that you guys can do? Are you?
Speaker 2 (13:57):
You know?
Speaker 3 (13:58):
I know we got we got Irish Sam, everybody.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Tim, he's here, He's here forever?
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Is it? By the way, isn't it weird how you
could do some but some you just can't do anymore? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Well that was I was I say. I built the
first half of my career on making on doing accents
that I think are are not allowed anymore. I don't know, right, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
How would your dad see it?
Speaker 3 (14:19):
You got anything?
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Not really an accent, but more impressions than accent.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
And I'm not really talking about impressions because that's that's
a separate issue entirely. If you're doing like I'm talking
more about like somebody who is on in a movie,
right and you know they're not they're not, They're an
English actor but there, but they're doing an American accent.
(14:44):
I'll give me. I have examples for you.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Oh good, go ahead, I want just Sam Straw to
the other day.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
You want to hear me? Sam?
Speaker 2 (14:51):
I know that show you all we anywhere Mary Pupy.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Yeah, that's one of the most famous ever kan Dyke Poppins.
And another one that's this one is well, this one's terrible.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Lightly once again, I must have broke that.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
If you don't stop it up on the gravel right
this minute, I'm going to counter and break the problem.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Is that Mickey?
Speaker 3 (15:18):
That that is Mickey Rooney from Breakfast at tip Unio.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Yeah, Mike, Mike, I thought we I thought we moved
past the old guy topic, right, But Mary Poppins and
Mickey Rooney, I want to hear it.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
What do you got? What do you got? Rich?
Speaker 2 (15:31):
He said he had one that just your head on Netflix.
I just watched that really cool uh show called I
Will Find You with the guys in prison for Life
because they think he killed the son, but his sons
still alive. Sam Worthington, I didn't realize that main guy
is British and he does like an American accent. I
did not realize that guy was either British or Australian.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Happens so often all the time today's movies.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
And give you one, Mike, Margot, Robbie Margaret in and
she plays you know what's her name?
Speaker 1 (16:03):
On the DC films, so many English.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Character Barb Barbie, Yeah, suicide Squad and also in Wolf
of Wall Street?
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Isn't she in America? Wall Street?
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Mike Muga, Robbie could speak in any accent. Well, I'll
give you one that Shock Covino night, maybe about a
decade ago, because we've been doing this for a minute together.
I remember, I don't know how I didn't know this.
I should have from the movie Love actually, but I
forgot maybe leading up to the interview. But when The
Walking Dead was his hottest could be it was the
hottest show on television. We had Andrew Lincoln on the show,
(16:38):
Rick Grimes, and I should have remembered, Oh, yeah, he's
in you know, he's in love actually, and he's a
British actor. He comes in and I'm picturing Rick Grimes
from Atlanta, you know, Grimey Zombie show, and he's the
most British you could get.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
He's like, hello, what and then he told the stories
like he's so English. This is the truth. He's so English. English.
Actually I'm English. He's so English that Ian Anderson the
lead singer of jeth Roel Tall Ian Anderson's father in law.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
And I was like, what, that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Yeah, So he's like weigh English And that happens all
the time, Rich all the time. Where you think these
are American actors but they're not.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
So my take for today, and it comes to the
accents is specifically, that's the only time it's appropriate to
affect an accent is if you are in a movie,
on television, doing entertainment, stand up comedy. These are the
things if you are a professional. Much like my take
on plastic surgery that I had a few weeks ago. Right,
(17:42):
if you are getting paid, if it is part of
earning your living, I am okay with it as long
as it's not offensive. And that's that's the rub, because
the truth is, if you are trying to do it
respectfully and getting paid for it, it's okay. It's understandable
if you're just doing it with your buddies to get
a laugh, believe it or not, whether you like it
(18:06):
or not, it's mildly offensive and could be seriously offensive.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
It's been a car I just.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Want everybody to stop, okay, And here's reason number two
why you should stop. Okay, And this is the most
important reason. Your accent is terrible. Nobody wants to hear it.
I promise it's awful, Mike.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
I have a question. It is awful.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Nobody wants to hear.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
It, Mike, what if you hear I have a couple
of rubs here. I think I have some cavea idems.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
I'm ready to answer questions.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Hey, it's his take eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
You have any thoughts, And by the way, big Poppy
trivia coming up? Yeah, I wonder how about that?
Speaker 2 (18:42):
But that's funny, should say the Big Poppy or the
Tyson or Mahomes. I think impressions or accents in the
in the form of comedy, if your natural ethnicity lines up,
if you're part Irish or part Mexican or part Italian,
or if you if your heritage is at all a
little bit of that background, I think the free passes
there is to exaggerate it. But I don't think you
(19:03):
could be doing an accent if you have no heritage
of that.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Pete Holmes, you think Mickey Rooney was out of line.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
There at different time, different time, in different place.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
But what about like the other one was like Hank
Azaria on The Simpsons, there was a whole documentary about
how he regrets doing a pu and everyone thought they
could do an Indian guy accent. Back in the day.
Every zany morning show, rock or pop music everyone thought,
but there is a double sky accent was funny.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
There is a double standard and it's a simple one,
and I'm sure there's a valid reason. But Pete Holmes,
the comedian who we've had on the show before, he
does this whole bit and like how we can't really
do accents anymore, even as a comedian. He feels awkward
about doing them, and he should. But for some reason,
we all could do if talking about Italian people, Pete zip, why.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
That what I'm saying is it's not really not okay?
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Well then if it's not right, then.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
The pizza bag that you've done, that's.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
A pizza that's a Pete Holmes thing. I knew this
was coming, then it should stay standing across the board,
is what you're saying, right, But Mike, based on what.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
You're saying though, right, like I'm I'm a little bit Italian,
Cavinos half Italian, that's fair game. Irish Irish, Sam.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
I am a little bit Irish. Are we a bit
a quarter? I think?
Speaker 2 (20:27):
I think?
Speaker 3 (20:27):
But what you're doing is you are using somebody's characteristics
as humor. They become funny through no fault of their own,
celebrating just how they are to give the world. Making No,
you're making fun of them.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
You're celebrating the great celebrating if you.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Think you're celebrating it, But who gets to decide whether
it's to celebrate, whether it's on it?
Speaker 1 (20:51):
And I think, you know, we do have to evolve,
we learn, and we grow and all this stuff. But
in the early two thousands, when rich and I were
building our career, we took a lot of pride in
being inclusive and diverse and welcoming everybody. And I grew
up with lots of different friends of different ethnicities, and
I think we all did right. So a lot of
times I'd incorporate these accents which I wouldn't do today,
(21:12):
but I did it then, and I was getting the
last from the people talking about and that was sort
of my goal, Like I'm trying to make this person
from that culture laugh. I'm trying to identify with this
person from that culture because I grew up with kids
like that, so I'm trying to make them laugh. And
if I made them laugh and I got their approval,
I feel like my character description in that story I
(21:33):
was telling was valid and was funny, and I was
winning people over that way. Because we used to build
camaraderie by poking at each other and having fun. It
wasn't making fun, it was having fun and together celebrate
your differences, right like I had Portuguese.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Dress.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
What Covi is saying right here, because while for you
it was all fun.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Yeah, they're relying to make the Indian guy laugh. In
other words, right.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Guess what, maybe that Indian guy is only laughing because
he feels uncomfortable because everybody else is laughing and he.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Has to laugh. Intent matters. I'm trying to be his
friend in that moment. And again it was a different time.
I wouldn't do it now because times have changed. But
I don't think to piggyback your thought, and I think
it's a great one. I don't think we should ever
be criticized or chastised for the things we did then.
You know, I think to do it now you're taking
a risk because we have learned, and maybe Mike is
(22:25):
making a really solid point. But to go back and
be yeah, well you guys were doing then, No, what
I was doing then was trying to make that Asian
dude laugh. What I was trying to do then was
make that Mexican dude.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Lack of course nobody like I think intent matters, Yeah, Mike,
if Cavino is telling a really funny story, Cavino was
like the king of impressions and still is just can't
do it.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
I just can't do them.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Like when we let's say, Cavino's telling a funny story
about a friend he went to high school with a
foreign exchange to a student from Japan. Carino's doing an
Asian accent. Yeah, nowadays offensive, but I remember, or we'd
go to live events and Asian listeners would be like, Yo, Cavino,
when you do your Gordon Lee impression or whatever that
kid you went to high school with, Yo, that's so funny, dude.
(23:07):
Like I think, if you are doing it, it's an intent.
Was always some people's intent was to insult or be little.
Other people's intent was to just tell a good story.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Okay, but does My point is, you guys talk about intent.
Intent doesn't matter when the harm is done. Regardless of
what you intended. If you offended somebody, or you made
somebody feel bad, or you made fun of somebody's accent,
doesn't matter. If you're trying to be funny, it doesn't matter.
If you're trying to be uplifting, doesn't matter if you
intended to make fun of that guy in specific. If
(23:38):
he feels like crap because you're making fun of the
way he talks, then your intent means not a damn.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Thing to me. Right, I'll give you you know who
says this stuff. And Mike is onto something. My daughter
is sixteen years old. She'll try to keep me in
check with stuff like that. Young people have no patience
for it. And I could be talking about a Mexican
dude and I'm half Mexican, where I could be like, yeah,
that guy was like a seagas fool he came up
to he was.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Like hold on, holds, what's going on? And see?
Speaker 1 (24:04):
And she'd be like, Dad, that's racist, And I'm like,
first of all, it's it's just character description, so back
off and aamh. I'm like, I'm tryings Mexican, I'm trying
to tell a story.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
But so can get it.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
I get it, I absolutely get it. But I will
tell you, for instance, I have a I have a
joke I like to tell and it it it does
involve me doing accents in the joke, right, and guess
what the joke I'm telling is offensive? I will admit it.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Well take it off your fifteen minutes and you're gonna
do with chuckles this weekend.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
I'm not telling that joke.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
You know, can id on the radio. I'm not when
when the younger generation, can you not make a good point.
We could wrap with this. We'll take your feedback, and
we got a break. When you're telling a story, generationally,
it's funny what people want to hear if you're saying, y'all, dude,
I was at the bank, and yeah, I have the
funniest story. So I bumped it to this older There
was an older black woman and a young Indian a
(25:01):
younger perspect Why does it matter who you bumped into?
And I'm like, I'm I'm just giving.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Details us to get a feel of the And then
and that's going.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
On, and I saw these two people fight, you know,
some young Asian guy and some nerdy white dude, and
they were what what what does it matter?
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Yeah, those are unimportant script.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
These are descriptors. I think young people don't even want
to script. It's wild to me.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
All right, So your thoughts and you're Mike, Mike who
runs this take is saying across the board, we need
to be consistent, and I want your feedback. Next plus

Speaker 6 (28:20):
Three outs away? That's how close. Toronto Blue Jays pitcher
Dylan Seese came to the second no hitter of his
career today at San Francisco. Had a no hitter going
for eight innings against the Giants before it was broken
up by an Elliott Ramos single leading off the ninth inning.
The Blue Jays won the game ten to nothing. Cease
finished with eleven strikeouts in eight innings. Detroit Tigers three

Speaker 1 (29:56):
Hell, yeah, thank you, Ilo, Isaac Lohencron No the Cron
hanging out with Isaac. Now we'll take a few quick
phone calls and then we got midweek major coming up.
But Mike, who runs his take, was here saying that, hey, accents,
maybe we're fun at one point, but nowadays just across
the board should be eliminated because they're never good. They're
(30:16):
just not fun.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Intent intent is what it's all about. But I don't know, man,
So let's go to your feedback. Let's do it.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Yeah, let's see what our callers think. We'll start with
Josh on Edward's Air Force bace.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Hey, what's up? Josh?
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Hey, man, what's going on?
Speaker 10 (30:32):
I agree with Mike one hundred percent that you shouldn't
try to imitate anything like that for the intent to
try to humiliate someone or anything like that. But I
do have a quick Andrew Lincoln story.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Of five times sure make it snappy.
Speaker 10 (30:48):
I was on YEP, I was in twenty fourteen. I
was going from LA to Atlanta. As you know, they
film Walking Dead there and when they called on first class,
Andrew Lincoln walks by and I was like, Oh, it's cool.
I'm going to while we were at Rhymes when we
get closer to Atlanta. Finally, comes on like, oh, we're experiencing.
We may experience some turbulence because there's a bad thunderstorone
going on. As we get closer. The worst turbulence I've
(31:10):
ever felt on an aircraft in my life.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
The worst.
Speaker 10 (31:13):
People are screaming, babies are crying, people are praying. I
was like, man, we're not going to make it out
of this. We diverted to Alabama. Everything was safe, but
I thought Walking Dad might come to an.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
End there, like, hey, not only am I gone? So
was a great show. Interestingly, enough story about that.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
That is the worst. But I'm sorry. Thanks for to
call man.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Our buddy Rob Baker, who's listening down here in Texas
on our affiliate San Antonio, said, Mike, Man, this guy
sounds like it's a dark cloud over his head. So
many of the impressions were done for fun, really, I mean,
it's just if it's done to humiliate or make fun,
that's one thing. But sometimes a good impression is a
good impression. I get why you can't do them anymore,
but it really is about intent.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Camino, and you know, maybe trying to our justification back
in the day as storytellers on the radio is a
character description. Yeah, and trying to make it relatable and funny,
never to it's soul. Yeah, to paint the picture. Uh,
and to make those people we were talking about also
laugh in the moment, like you know, like assuming they're
(32:16):
part of it. Who else do we got? Danny g
let's go to trip in Vegas. Hey, what's up?
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Trip?
Speaker 1 (32:21):
But you know what, it's a different time now, what
up trip?
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Hey? Jole?
Speaker 6 (32:24):
Hey Rich?
Speaker 11 (32:25):
I like that bourbon selection behind you in the background there.
I have no idea that Mike Dallas, but I do
agree with him. And here's my example. Imagine I mean
in this day and age, but imagine this. Imagine like
imitating a deaf person. That's no different than imitating an accent.
And that's got to be upsetting to them if they
know what you were saying.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Yeah, I mean that's true. We realized that they were
insensitive on certain things back in the day.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Yeah, you live, you learn, right, I mean times have changed,
and you know, so many younger generations they did get
some things right. For sure.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
I've never heard someone do an impersonation and I thought,
how dare they really?
Speaker 1 (33:02):
No?
Speaker 5 (33:03):
No, because if it's just for fun, you know what
I mean you, but the intent is not to humiliate them.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
That's not the intent.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
No one's ever been offended by Irish Sam. I just
like people have messaged me to say they enjoy it,
and they're.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Like, no, you should never do.
Speaker 5 (33:18):
And that's why I think the mass, the majority of
people will do an Italian impersonation because Covino. Have you
ever been like, oh my god, I can't believe he
did an Italian guy.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
No, that's why I was going to get a double standards.
Some of them are just like so accepted for whatever reason, but.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
It's also based on what groups of people that have
been marginalized over the years.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
That's the truth, right, I mean should be IOE should
just be like, we could do an impersonation of all ethnicities.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
Hey, Rich, I guess you have to retire that weak
ass Australian joke. Australian accent joke. You always tell that's
not true Australians up for grabs. That's a say rise
up lights and it sounds like you're saying razor blades rise.
Speaker 2 (33:58):

Speaker 4 (37:40):
Former MMA fighter in UFC Champ Connor McGregor will return
to the octagon this weekend for the first time in
five years. He'll be fighting as a welterweight against Max
Holloway in a non title headliner as part of UFC
three twenty nine on Saturday in Vegas. Leading up to
the fight, McGregor told ESPN quote, I have many things
I have taken into this camp that have been fueled
to my fire. One the greatest featherweight of all time.
(38:01):
This ranking system of the greatest featherweights. I've beaten these men,
but I'm not on the list. How have I beaten
these men easily and handedly and been kept from the list.
He later went on to say real quick that he's
the best featherweight since Bruce Lee, and he will showcase
that in Saturday's fight. Connor McGregor back in the octagon
with a lot of self praise, praise midweaker, major.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Major, I was sam. I mean, the UFC is lacking
big names like Connor McGregor. Now, I know you don't
want to go the well and bring back the oldies,
but Connor McGregor will get people to watch this weekend
where I'll be honest. Unfortunately, out of the younger, more
established peeps, well, not so cave. You know, I'm all
for it. I'm excited to see what he could bring.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
It would have been major if Sam did his Irish
Sam accent, went talking.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
About it, but I didn't feel like it was appropriate
this time.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
You know, McGregor is a big time star and a
big time name, but I just think that he's been
out of the ring so long that it's almost impossible
for him to come in there and look great. You know,
I hope he's not.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
A Gina Carano situation where he gets they're.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Going to be let down.
Speaker 7 (39:01):
Man.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Ring rust is real, he's older, the fight's a non
title fight, so look, if he's really committed and proves
us wrong, then great.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
But right now it's mid mid there's the mid all right,
pressing on here, major name, mid story, very good grown
folk thing here, turning things down, turning down events. Grown
folk don't have as much fomo maybe as the only people.
Charles Barkley recently revealed that he turned down his Swift
Kelsey wedding invite so he could quote hang out and
play some golf. Barkley told ninety seven point five The Fanatic,
(39:34):
it's unfiltered with Ricky bow and Bill Cola rulo, I
don't go to weddings or funerals, and he declined the
wedding invite. Uh, declining the wedding invite for the I
can't even talk. This show is verd Jesus. Charles Barkley
turning down the Kelsey Swift wedding midweaker major.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Recut so much. Your recut the segment and put it
side by side with the excited Southerner. Remember Adam Sandler.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
Cluster, Sam gives you the news.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
This show's been an absolute whirlwind.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
I go ahead, it's.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Major because it was the biggest wedding in the United
States in like decades. Char as celebrities go and Charles
Barkley's like, yeah, I ruther golf and not hanging. That's
pretty funny because listen, I heard Greg Olsen tell a
story how I was like, yeah, it was just wild
to be there. He said he left the bathroom and
he's like, someone compliment in my hat, and that someone
was Tom Cruise. He said it was just a really wild,
cool event to be at. But you know what, when
(40:27):
you've been there, done that, you're sir Charles, you could
pass on these things. So I think it's major only
of how big the event was.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
You know what. I also think it's major because so
many people got invited. There were stories of people not
getting invited, and funny to hear that Charles Barkley got
an invite. It didn't go like there were so many
people that would have died to have gone or been
part of that. And he was like, nah, I'm good
because he doesn't do weddings or funerals like that. Excuse
(40:57):
in itself is great, so he said heciated it. I
think it's a major story. It's just funny to see
the lives these guys live. All right, guys.
Speaker 4 (41:05):
People have been clamoring for this online. Uh, they want
me to do the final story in my Irish sam accent.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
So here we go and we.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
Will be staying with the Travis and Taylor Wedding of
the century. We're seeing reports of trash refuse from the
Swift Kelsey wedding being sold online and air what we
breathe from MSG being bottled and sold for almost fifty thousand dollars.
Air from MSG and trash midweek or major.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
Yeah, this is this is the mid most mid story,
but it's matrix to show you what is the old expression,
could we know someone's trash could be someone else's treasure.
What they're doing is they're taking like dirty plates and
remnants and things from the wedding and packaging them like
this was from Taylor and Travis's wedding, and maniac superfans
are buying trash from the wedding as a souvenir.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Yeah, it's a weak story. We got to be better
than this.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
But then again, hold on, is it any worse when
grown men by like a game worn shoe of an athlete?
Speaker 1 (42:03):
Yeah, because the guy probably gives it to you, or
you know, it was meant to be given or sold
or to be had by a collector. People are going
through trash to get this stuff. I'm wondering. Does it
say like Travis and Taylor's wedding on the plates? Is
there anything of significance that makes it even kind of cool?
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (42:22):
Otherwise, Look, it's a napkin that George Kinnel used.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
Yeah, it's different. Rich. It just shows how pathetic people
are for celebrity and stardom and how crazy people are
for Travis and Taylor.
Speaker 4 (42:33):
Can you make a shoe smell that's all she wrote,
all right, thank you.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
For everyone, great job Sam, and sorry we pushed it
off so late. Yeah you're right though, this show flew by,
so thank you guys. Fun show. You know it is
that Mike got controversial today.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
That's why.
