before we went old school, and they got a tough schedule.

Dude, Oh, I was going over that first five weeks again.

I know we're gonna get back to old school, but
that first five weeks of the Bill schedule, you and
I were saying, like, yo, if they escape over five hundred,
that's a good sign. They have to go to Houston,
which always gives them problems. Then the Bills play the Lions, Chargers, Patriots,
and then go to play the Rams out here in
LA and You're like, yo, if they go three and two,
that's great.

Because then they have an easy going on.

And then later in the season they have the stretch
where they played the Ravens, Packers, and Bears all in
a round, and Big Brandon's like, they'll win all of
those games.

a lot of the best team here, part of the
best sports lineup in the nation.

thought he was the oldest dude on the planet. Sixty three.

He was only sixty nothing, I know, dude, what have
you died at sixty three? Now, it would be like
like way too young before his time. Jackie Robinson died
at fifty three of a heart attack.

Yeah, I mean, look, Mickey mantoles widow, he lived a
lot of life. Let's just put it that way, right,
and props to them. But a legend like Mickey manles
like a mythical sort of figure. Mickey Mannals his name,
everything about him. You've heard Billy Crystal talk about the Mick.
This guy has legendary stories. This guy was getting action

during baseball games. You ever see that story? Yep, I
was just looking it up. There was like some questionnaire.
There's a legendary story about a Yankees questionnaire and Mickey
Mannle was handed this and they were like, you know,
give us your best Yankee moment. And he made it
like a mockery out of it, talking about the action
he was pulling during games. And it's a written out thing,

signed by Mickey Mantle. Do you have the story here
to I don't think I could talk a't hey, look
it up on your own time. But this dude was
a legend all over the place. But the Mick rest
in peace. You heard your parents probably talk a lot
about him. So Danny G said, you know, let's let's
pay tribute to some of those old timey timers that
you heard all the legends off.

Yeah, even some of the ones maybe from the nineties
that our parents talked to you.

Danny, I'll give you. I'll give you one that we
caught because of our age. But youngsters have no clue
about and it always bothers me. I know, could he
know those where I'm going? Pele oh, Pele? I thought
you know, by the way, when I was a kid,
I thought I thought Pley paid in like the eighteen hundreds.
It just sounds like an old guy. I'm like, no, hawk, No,
what hawk?

You mean? The golfer the greatest golfer in the land
they call it. Are you you.

Bo Jackson. You know, that's one of those territories for sure.
You see a er, a modern like legendary. You an
sounds like we're telling tall tales a younger niece or
nephew that's in their twenties, or even like a teenage
kid you might have.

He ran up the outfield wall.

You'll never understand, like you know this guy.

You just tell them things like imagine if Derrick Henry
was hitting home runs, or what if Aaron Judge was
rushing for a thousand yards Like the idea of Bo
Jackson to anyone younger than forty just seems mythical. By
the way, his college number retired just and then when
you tell the story, like yeah, and he would break
the bat over his knee and over his helmet, Like

think about how impossible that seems. He would break the bat,
snap a baseball bat over his head. That's crazy, that's superheroes.

One of my kids saw the old video of him
running into the tunnel in Seattle. I thought it was Ai.

like a baby and it was way past the prime.
I only I've watched the fights. I know the legend,
but I'll never truly understand the greatness of Muhammad Ali.
I've only watched him in highlight form and videos of
the fightsrope dope. But all that was before I was born.
So to me, much like like a butterfost thing, much

like things that you can never really grasp, Like you
know our parents talk about like when JFK got killed
or the moon landing. If things happened before you were born.

don't really you don't feel it right. What were those
names that your grandpappy or even your parents. So if

old school name. But there's a recent documentary about him,
so it's fresh on the dome right now. But parents
always throw around the name like Jim Thorpe, and it's true.
It's like, you know, the greatest athlete that ever was Jim.
Let me tell you about Jim Thorpe. You know, you
hear things like that and your ears perk up because
you're like, yeah, all right, let's hear it about a

shout out to our pale mad dog Russo the leaguely
and shout outs for Bob COOZI yeah, no, for sure,
Bob Coozy. Now I have a funny story because my
grandfather died when I was about fourteen, right, so I
didn't have a lot of like great stories of Muhammad Ali.
I wouldn't say Jack Dempsey, but he fought in the twenties.

Ry Terry wrote Jack Dempsey. But I do remember this.
This was kind of funny. I was collecting my baseball cards, right,
you know, in the prime of my baseball card collecting days,
the nineteen eighty seven tops with the wood border, the frame,
the wood frame border. They they matched my house. Everyone
had that wood paneling in their house. Why not do

it on tops baseball cards? And I remember maybe on
the side of your parents' station wagon. I remember there
was a lot of wood love it in the eighties.
I'm there with my Grandpappy and he's cracking peanuts and everything, right,
you know, he's cracking his nuts with the little nutcracker
thing that they had, you know, old grandpap he's had
you know, I'm talking about a nutcracker. Yeah, but you
know they all nut crackers. Yeah, the wallnut once. Why
don't we do that anymore?

Good for your hand strength.

Yeah, so he's doing that. He's he's watching me open
baseball cards. Hand strength used to matter a lot more.
I remember your parents had those grippy things, dude, And
my grandpap he had mangled fingers because he was a butcher, right,
so he had his butcher hands mangling those nuts.

Now we're ach we have nidos.

Yeah, And I'm opening up baseball cards and I pull
up a Robbie Thompson nineteen eighty seven San Francisco Giants card, right,
and he played second base, I believe, for the San
Francisco Giants, Robbie Thompson. His name was Robbie Thompson. And
I remember specifically my grandfather going, you got a Bobby Thompson.

He was a legend, and I'm like, I was so confused.
But he was a New York Giants legend. And he
hit that famous nineteen fifty one walk off home.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Run against the brook with around the world, heard.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Around the world, and he was telling me the whole story,
and I'm like, pop, pop, I don't think it's the
same guy. But he's on the giants. I'm like, it
can't be because this dude's playing in eighty seven. But
I do remember my grandfather telling me about the shot
heard around the world. Bobby Thompson, you pulled Robert Rand Thompson.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Yeah, I pulled the raw exactly.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I pulled the Robbie Thompson, not a Bobby Thompson, who
again was a nineteen fifty one n L Pennant hero.
So I do remember that story. And then of course
you grew up learning and realizing like, yeah, that was
a big moment in baseball history. Man, Well you're out
at energy, do you mind Later I'm pulling Covinos saying
quote his butcher hands mangled as nuts.

and making it dirty. I'm sorry I had to your thoughts, Ruiner,
your call, ruiner of life, Rich Davis, all those old
school legends on the Unfortunate Anniversary.

Oddly enough, but it is stories like that though, that
your grandparent be talked about, Like I'll never forget fifty one.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I mean, it sounds the shot who ran.

It sounds crazy though that Mickey Mantle died at sixty three,
you know what, thirty one years ago, which means he
would I mean, it's not crazy. He could still be
alive at ninety four. Dick Van Dyke's one hundred. Betty
White lived in ninety nine. So in an alternate universe,
you know, Mickey Mantle's still around.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
You know what I thought.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
The sad revelation was Danny every time at Baseball All
Star Break, you know how they would you know, in
past years they'd bring out the legends.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah, some of them ride on carts.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah, they're right on cars or the little cars that
look like big helmets.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
They're waving to the crowd.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
We do realize that of that generation, they're all gone now,
like Yoki Barrow is one of the likes ones to go.
The legends now are sadly players from our childhood, like
the Mike Schmidtz of the world and the eighties players
and the why the Reggie Jackson's like those are the
guys that there was less attendance that the Yankees Old
Timer's day than ever before.

Who's an old timer now?
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Bernie Williams exactly, because there's a weird disconnect of like,
where's the legends. They're not These guys aren't that old,
They're not around anymore. That's the truth. It's the same revolution.
It's the same revelation of when you're like classic rock
and you're thinking like sixties or seventies, like no, no,
like the nineties.

Yeah, grudge, Yeah exactly.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
By the way, I think one of the oldest legends
Hall of Famers and Baseball still left around, Sandy Kofax.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Yes, yeah, and he was the eighty eight now he is.

You're right, dannyj He's like the only guy we talked
about that recently or we looked it up recently. Who
are those people on the day the Mick died Mickey
Mannle nineteen ninety five, thirty one years ago today.

So many of those legends we lost in the last decade.

So I'm named after Bart Star. I was born the
year they won the first Super Bowl.

And uh yeah, yeah, my dad always had this picture
of Bart throwing this laser and in his study. And
I got a good story. If you got a couple
of seconds, yeah.

Yeah. So my dad got cancer and I thought, uh,
you know, I'll write to Bart Starr and ask him,
you know, could you do something to cheer my dad up.
And a couple of years ago, by I'd never hear
from him, and I think, boy, here's this guy who's
got this great reputation for being a nice guy. He
totally blows me off. Anyway, I'm at work one day
a couple of years later, in the phone rings and
it's a woman answers. I answered. A woman says, yeah, hey,
(12:27):
this is Bart bart Star secretary. Is your dad still alive?
I said, well, yeah he is, and she said, oh,
we were just moving some boxes around and moved our
office and I found your letter and we want to
send you something that's great. So yeah, yeah it was nice.
Sent me a letter, you know, talking about naming me
after him and stuff and a signed photo. And so
(12:49):
he had to leave his job, so he was retiring,
and I roasted him. And he was a quirky dude,
not unlike myself, and so I ripped him a good one,
all his weird habits and courts he had. And at
the end, I read, I told the story about the letter,
and I read the letter and I framed it and everything,
and uh, he came up and got it. And I
(13:10):
looked in the front row and here's all these ancient dudes,
all my dad's friends, and they're sitting there just balling
in their seat.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
That's a good story, man, so really good story story.
You know what, Bart hang on the line. I think
we should mail him a grilling apron. Yeah, that was
a really good story about bart Star. That as cool
as a letter from Bart Star. But it's kind of cool.
He was named after Bart. I was named after Richard
Simmons Yeatna.

actor Steve Balboni.

A lot of people don't know that. Sound fun. Fact
he never wrote me back though.

Like what yeah, you see all the reactions, reactions like
what is this?

It's a two hour prank? Essentially, it's a two hour
setup to a prank, and I have to see that's
really funny. Honestly, that is a funny use of a Sorry,

dad and Covino. I'm sure you were a fan too,
But growing up all I heard about was Thurman Munson.
Oh yeah, And to this day, every time I pull
a punt or pull a drive, my dad pulls at
a Thurman Munson dead poll hitter. I've never seen it
at bat, but I feel I know exactly what his

approach was. And then I think of the Orange catcher's
gear too, for like a New York Yankee.

Well, dude, do you know they just recently paid homage
Just this past week, Austin Wells was rocking the orange gear,
this whole thing and tribute and it was so moving
to his wife that she was crying in tears, and
she was so grateful about it. And they still have
his locker untouched at Yankee Stadium. But that's a great
name and a great example too, right, because they'll tell
you about like the time they watched Derman Munson play,

because you have no idea what it was like. Thank
you man, great call. So yeah, on this day, Mickey
Manno passed away. I am trying to think of some
of those classic guys that you'll never truly you know,
I hate to say it, but when it comes to baseball,
a lot of those classic names we grew up rich
and I grew up on the East Coast. It's Joe DiMaggio.

It's names like that. It's a lot of you know,
Yankee greats. You know, I'm not saying Mets don't count.
They don't, but ed doesn't ring like like a Mickey
Mano or Roger Maris.

Did I know the famous story that we know from
you Covino seeing a Yankees legend in traffic? Did your
parents ever meet an athlete and because of that they
would tell that story a lot and then follow that
player's career.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
No, my mom loves to tell the story. Camino makes
it sound like this is something like, well, you must
have grew up in like a rich little league. It
was not the case at all. It was super long
island suburbs. We used to have a baseball player from
the metser Yankees come to our end of the year
awards ceremony.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
That's insane. Anyone else here have that experience, That's what
I'm talking about. A Met or a Yankee at that age.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
That would have freaked me out, Like what Dave Whitfield's coming.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
I had a heart attack. We had DJ train from
JJ Fadd playing music that was our.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
It was like it was an old guy with a
pipe us to sell rapid dude. It was a dinner
where you got your trophies. If if you were like
a first or second place team and they give out
the yearbooks, whichevy like your stats in him like a
little you know, crappy Kinko's copy.

Of like your stats. And there was there was always
a met or Yankee.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Someone was pulling shrinks for you guys. Maybe there's someone
that knews in the league. But this was I grew
up on Long Island in like a middle class town.
But anyway, Yeah, there was like Randy Neeman, Tommy John
one year, who by the way, is in hospice now
if you saw that, wrote a nice letter to all
the fans.

Over the years.

One year, Mookie Wilson was there and that was the
biggest name they ever got, Mookie Wilson in the eighties.
That was like a that was a git right, think
of that mook. And the story goes that my brother
was so little that my mother put my brother down
and my brother threw his METS hat at Moki Wilson
and hit him right in the face. And Hookey was like, ah,
and that story, legendary story, that story, and then my

brother picked up the hat and throw it him again,
and like that's the story. Like remember when your brother
kept hitting Mookie Wilson. Your parents love to retell. Yeah,
maybe those same stories. And I have I have that
hat somewhere where it's like some crappy Mets hat and
it's signed by Mickie Wilson, Stephen Baker, New York football
Giants come to one of our state championship dinners or

something like that.

And she was hanging out with Dave Roberts the other day.

I mean, that's how you hand That's how you shake

you were ever fortunate enough to find like their old
baseball cards or something or fine, like I found all

your whole life. Now you're finding baseball cards of those dudes.
I got something I'm gonna say that might sound crazy
to you. First of all, I got one old timing
time guy that gets zero credit for what he's accomplished
because he was such like a fun, goofball type of guy.
And you mentioned him a few moments ago. If you've
never seen the documentary it Ain't over about Yogi Bearra

It's really good because you realize this guy's a ten
time World Series champion. His stats line up with anyone,
but because he was like Yogi Bera and they did
the Yogi Bear and yogiisms. And because he and truthfully
they even talked about the documentary and not being mean
because he wasn't the most handsome fella.

He was the butt of jokes when people used to
be a lot.

More meaning, and it looked like the conventional, you know,
baseball slayer. But he became a caricature of himself, and

look at what he's accomplished on the field, Yogi Bera
is a name we all know, but it's a name

Yogi Bearra Museum is at my college where they should
retire my number, Montclair State University. Yeah, home of the
Yogi Bearra Museum. And they stole his rings, dude, there's a.

thirty five or younger, don't tell me you know anything
about Michael Jordan. No, but your stories, if you did,

it's all good. We just went over the bills scheduled
before we went old school, and they got a tough schedule.

Dude, Oh, I was going over that first five weeks again.

I know we're gonna get back to old school, but
that first five weeks of the Bill schedule, you and
I were saying, like, yo, if they escape over five hundred,
that's a good sign. They have to go to Houston,
which always gives them problems. Then the Bills play the Lions, Chargers, Patriots,
and then go to play the Rams out here in
LA and You're like, yo, if they go three and two,
that's great.

Because then they have an easy going on.

And then later in the season they have the stretch
where they played the Ravens, Packers, and Bears all in
a round, and Big Brandon's like, they'll win all of
those games.

like way too young before his time. Jackie Robinson died
at fifty three of a heart attack.

Yeah, I mean, look, Mickey mantoles widow, he lived a
lot of life. Let's just put it that way, right,
and props to them. But a legend like Mickey manles
like a mythical sort of figure. Mickey Mannals his name,
everything about him. You've heard Billy Crystal talk about the Mick.
This guy has legendary stories. This guy was getting action

during baseball games. You ever see that story? Yep, I
was just looking it up. There was like some questionnaire.
There's a legendary story about a Yankees questionnaire and Mickey
Mannle was handed this and they were like, you know,
give us your best Yankee moment. And he made it
like a mockery out of it, talking about the action
he was pulling during games. And it's a written out thing,

signed by Mickey Mantle. Do you have the story here
to I don't think I could talk a't hey, look
it up on your own time. But this dude was
a legend all over the place. But the Mick rest
in peace. You heard your parents probably talk a lot
about him. So Danny G said, you know, let's let's
pay tribute to some of those old timey timers that
you heard all the legends off.

that our parents talked to you.

caught because of our age. But youngsters have no clue
about and it always bothers me. I know, could he

you know, by the way, when I was a kid,

It just sounds like an old guy. I'm like, no, hawk, No,
what hawk?

sounds like we're telling tall tales a younger niece or
nephew that's in their twenties, or even like a teenage
kid you might have.

You just tell them things like imagine if Derrick Henry
was hitting home runs, or what if Aaron Judge was

Jackson to anyone younger than forty just seems mythical. By
the way, his college number retired just and then when
you tell the story, like yeah, and he would break
the bat over his knee and over his helmet, Like

think about how impossible that seems. He would break the bat,
snap a baseball bat over his head. That's crazy, that's superheroes.

One of my kids saw the old video of him
running into the tunnel in Seattle. I thought it was Ai.

I only I've watched the fights. I know the legend,

know our parents talk about like when JFK got killed
or the moon landing. If things happened before you were born.

don't really you don't feel it right. What were those
names that your grandpappy or even your parents. So if

always throw around the name like Jim Thorpe, and it's true.

Let me tell you about Jim Thorpe. You know, you
hear things like that and your ears perk up because
you're like, yeah, all right, let's hear it about a

shout out to our pale mad dog Russo the leaguely
and shout outs for Bob COOZI yeah, no, for sure,
Bob Coozy. Now I have a funny story because my
grandfather died when I was about fourteen, right, so I
didn't have a lot of like great stories of Muhammad Ali.
I wouldn't say Jack Dempsey, but he fought in the twenties.

Ry Terry wrote Jack Dempsey. But I do remember this.
This was kind of funny. I was collecting my baseball cards, right,
you know, in the prime of my baseball card collecting days,
the nineteen eighty seven tops with the wood border, the frame,
the wood frame border. They they matched my house. Everyone
had that wood paneling in their house. Why not do

it on tops baseball cards? And I remember maybe on
the side of your parents' station wagon. I remember there
was a lot of wood love it in the eighties.
I'm there with my Grandpappy and he's cracking peanuts and everything, right,
you know, he's cracking his nuts with the little nutcracker
thing that they had, you know, old grandpap he's had
you know, I'm talking about a nutcracker. Yeah, but you
know they all nut crackers. Yeah, the wallnut once. Why
don't we do that anymore?

Yeah, so he's doing that. He's he's watching me open
baseball cards. Hand strength used to matter a lot more.
I remember your parents had those grippy things, dude, And
my grandpap he had mangled fingers because he was a butcher, right,
so he had his butcher hands mangling those nuts.

Now we're ach we have nidos.

Yeah, And I'm opening up baseball cards and I pull
up a Robbie Thompson nineteen eighty seven San Francisco Giants card, right,
and he played second base, I believe, for the San
Francisco Giants, Robbie Thompson. His name was Robbie Thompson. And
I remember specifically my grandfather going, you got a Bobby Thompson.

He was a legend, and I'm like, I was so confused.
But he was a New York Giants legend. And he
hit that famous nineteen fifty one walk off home.

Run against the brook with around the world, heard.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Around the world, and he was telling me the whole story,
and I'm like, pop, pop, I don't think it's the
same guy. But he's on the giants. I'm like, it
can't be because this dude's playing in eighty seven. But
I do remember my grandfather telling me about the shot
heard around the world. Bobby Thompson, you pulled Robert Rand Thompson.

Yeah, I pulled the raw exactly.

I pulled the Robbie Thompson, not a Bobby Thompson, who
again was a nineteen fifty one n L Pennant hero.
So I do remember that story. And then of course
you grew up learning and realizing like, yeah, that was
a big moment in baseball history. Man, Well you're out
at energy, do you mind Later I'm pulling Covinos saying
quote his butcher hands mangled as nuts.

Oddly enough, but it is stories like that though, that
your grandparent be talked about, Like I'll never forget fifty one.

It sounds crazy though that Mickey Mantle died at sixty three,
you know what, thirty one years ago, which means he
would I mean, it's not crazy. He could still be
alive at ninety four. Dick Van Dyke's one hundred. Betty
White lived in ninety nine. So in an alternate universe,
you know, Mickey Mantle's still around.

The sad revelation was Danny every time at Baseball All
Star Break, you know how they would you know, in
past years they'd bring out the legends.

Yeah, some of them ride on carts.

Yeah, they're right on cars or the little cars that
look like big helmets.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
They're waving to the crowd.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
We do realize that of that generation, they're all gone now,
like Yoki Barrow is one of the likes ones to go.
The legends now are sadly players from our childhood, like
the Mike Schmidtz of the world and the eighties players
and the why the Reggie Jackson's like those are the
guys that there was less attendance that the Yankees Old
Timer's day than ever before.

Who's an old timer now?
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Bernie Williams exactly, because there's a weird disconnect of like,
where's the legends. They're not These guys aren't that old,
They're not around anymore. That's the truth. It's the same revolution.
It's the same revelation of when you're like classic rock
and you're thinking like sixties or seventies, like no, no,
like the nineties.

By the way, I think one of the oldest legends
Hall of Famers and Baseball still left around, Sandy Kofax.

about that recently or we looked it up recently. Who
are those people on the day the Mick died Mickey

So many of those legends we lost in the last decade.

So I'm named after Bart Star. I was born the
year they won the first Super Bowl.

And uh yeah, yeah, my dad always had this picture
of Bart throwing this laser and in his study. And
I got a good story. If you got a couple
of seconds, yeah.

Yeah. So my dad got cancer and I thought, uh,
you know, I'll write to Bart Starr and ask him,
you know, could you do something to cheer my dad up.
And a couple of years ago, by I'd never hear
from him, and I think, boy, here's this guy who's
got this great reputation for being a nice guy. He
totally blows me off. Anyway, I'm at work one day
a couple of years later, in the phone rings and
it's a woman answers. I answered. A woman says, yeah, hey,

this is Bart bart Star secretary. Is your dad still alive?
I said, well, yeah he is, and she said, oh,
we were just moving some boxes around and moved our
office and I found your letter and we want to
send you something that's great. So yeah, yeah it was nice.
Sent me a letter, you know, talking about naming me
after him and stuff and a signed photo. And so
(12:49):
he had to leave his job, so he was retiring,
and I roasted him. And he was a quirky dude,
not unlike myself, and so I ripped him a good one,
all his weird habits and courts he had. And at
the end, I read, I told the story about the letter,
and I read the letter and I framed it and everything,
and uh, he came up and got it. And I
(13:10):
looked in the front row and here's all these ancient dudes,
all my dad's friends, and they're sitting there just balling
in their seat.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
That's a good story, man, so really good story story.
You know what, Bart hang on the line. I think
we should mail him a grilling apron. Yeah, that was
a really good story about bart Star. That as cool
as a letter from Bart Star. But it's kind of cool.
He was named after Bart. I was named after Richard

It's a two hour prank? Essentially, it's a two hour
setup to a prank, and I have to see that's

But growing up all I heard about was Thurman Munson.

a punt or pull a drive, my dad pulls at
a Thurman Munson dead poll hitter. I've never seen it
at bat, but I feel I know exactly what his

approach was. And then I think of the Orange catcher's
gear too, for like a New York Yankee.

Well, dude, do you know they just recently paid homage
Just this past week, Austin Wells was rocking the orange gear,
this whole thing and tribute and it was so moving
to his wife that she was crying in tears, and
she was so grateful about it. And they still have
his locker untouched at Yankee Stadium. But that's a great
name and a great example too, right, because they'll tell
you about like the time they watched Derman Munson play,

because you have no idea what it was like. Thank
you man, great call. So yeah, on this day, Mickey
Manno passed away. I am trying to think of some
of those classic guys that you'll never truly you know,
I hate to say it, but when it comes to baseball,
a lot of those classic names we grew up rich
and I grew up on the East Coast. It's Joe DiMaggio.

It's names like that. It's a lot of you know,
Yankee greats. You know, I'm not saying Mets don't count.
They don't, but ed doesn't ring like like a Mickey
Mano or Roger Maris.

Did I know the famous story that we know from
you Covino seeing a Yankees legend in traffic? Did your
parents ever meet an athlete and because of that they
would tell that story a lot and then follow that
player's career.

No, my mom loves to tell the story. Camino makes
it sound like this is something like, well, you must
have grew up in like a rich little league. It
was not the case at all. It was super long
island suburbs. We used to have a baseball player from
the metser Yankees come to our end of the year
awards ceremony.

That's insane. Anyone else here have that experience, That's what
I'm talking about. A Met or a Yankee at that age.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
That would have freaked me out, Like what Dave Whitfield's coming.

I had a heart attack. We had DJ train from
JJ Fadd playing music that was our.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
It was like it was an old guy with a
pipe us to sell rapid dude. It was a dinner
where you got your trophies. If if you were like
a first or second place team and they give out
the yearbooks, whichevy like your stats in him like a
little you know, crappy Kinko's copy.

Of like your stats. And there was there was always
a met or Yankee.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Someone was pulling shrinks for you guys. Maybe there's someone
that knews in the league. But this was I grew
up on Long Island in like a middle class town.
But anyway, Yeah, there was like Randy Neeman, Tommy John
one year, who by the way, is in hospice now
if you saw that, wrote a nice letter to all
the fans.

Over the years.

One year, Mookie Wilson was there and that was the
biggest name they ever got, Mookie Wilson in the eighties.
That was like a that was a git right, think
of that mook. And the story goes that my brother
was so little that my mother put my brother down
and my brother threw his METS hat at Moki Wilson
and hit him right in the face. And Hookey was like, ah,
and that story, legendary story, that story, and then my

brother picked up the hat and throw it him again,
and like that's the story. Like remember when your brother
kept hitting Mookie Wilson. Your parents love to retell. Yeah,
maybe those same stories. And I have I have that
hat somewhere where it's like some crappy Mets hat and
it's signed by Mickie Wilson, Stephen Baker, New York football
Giants come to one of our state championship dinners or

time guy that gets zero credit for what he's accomplished

never seen the documentary it Ain't over about Yogi Bearra

It's really good because you realize this guy's a ten
time World Series champion. His stats line up with anyone,
but because he was like Yogi Bera and they did
the Yogi Bear and yogiisms. And because he and truthfully
they even talked about the documentary and not being mean
because he wasn't the most handsome fella.

He was the butt of jokes when people used to

is a name we all know, but it's a name

retire my number, Montclair State University. Yeah, home of the

about Michael Jordan. No, but your stories, if you did,

lot of youngsters don't even really know Michael Jordan.
