Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Covino Rich, and for the great Dan Patrick.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
You don't feel that way when you're tuning in for
someone else and you're like what or in another studies there?

Speaker 4 (00:13):
You know the best compliment. We were at the Super
Bowl and Frank Caliendo came up to us and said,
the first time you filled in for DP, I was
so upset. And then I listened and then an hour
later I'm like, I'm still listening to these clowns. And
so he said he's a fan that Wait.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
That was Frank Callendo. I thought it was John grudenought.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
It was the white Morgan Freeman.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
This whole time, You've been telling everyone Chucky is a
fan of the show.

Speaker 5 (00:36):
So if you love hanging with Covino on Rich, we
appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
You know.

Speaker 5 (00:41):
Dan Patrick a legend. We all watched him growing up.
So it's pretty wild sometimes. I said to Cavino during
the break, I go, is it weird to think like
we're filling it for Dan Patrick? The guy I watched
every day after like junior high and high school Sports Center,
And it's it's wild to think we.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Fill in for that guy. Pretty cool, Pretty cool. All right,
big stories, we're gonna get to this hour. What are
you doing? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
My phone just started talking. I think you learned it.
You annoyed my phone?

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Continue, Rich, Are you going to break down the two
NBA play in games you watched last night?

Speaker 2 (01:14):
I did not.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
I watched my Mets score one run on the first
batter of the game and then again not score a
run the whole game, which is aggravating. How early in
the season before we get into what I want to
get to, Danny, which is the best story in all
sports that's going under the radar. What is too early
to fire a manager into a season of any sport?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
I don't know, man, your Mets are looking pretty bad.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
I looked this up and there was a cal Ripken
senior oh and six start. When they're like, no, we're done,
I was like, oh, in six, I've got six games.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, this isn't working.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
But uh, Gonzales on the braves. I believe it was
nine and twenty something. You know in twenty nineteen, you
know they pulled the plug in May, end of April,
beginning of May.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
It's too soon for your Mets. I'll tell you why.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
I mean, it's hard to win when Soto's hurt already
and there's a lot of conflict in the locker room.
Lindor just got his first home run yesterday, so it's
not on him. These players need to get along, and
you can't make people get along no matter how hard
you try in life and in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I think in the clubhouse, I.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
Think, is it fair to say a third of the season,
give a guy fifty games? If the Mets are under
five hundred after fifty games with that payroll and playoff hopes,
If you're under five hundred after fifty games, then I
think you go to Carlos Beltron and then what happens,
or if someone at door and Soto will become best
friends after that, like magically, that's what happens. File you

(02:37):
fire the manager and then expect them to all get
along all of a sudden.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
I don't think he's really the problem.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
Well, hey, we'll talk a little more baseball with coach
ball game next hour and we'll do midweek major. But
right now, this is a story and you're hearing me
correct out of the w NBA, say what now the
Dallas Wings, who until two days ago. I thought it
was a restaurant. I thought that was Rich's favorite appetizer,

(03:04):
lemon pepper place. Yeah, asy fun was the number one pick.
Guys fun Ezy fud number one pick to the Dallas Wings. Now, first,
I understand, does a fun podcast here at iHeart.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yeah, congratulations on the podcast.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Check out the name, it's called fud Around, and find
out it's a good one. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
So if you're not thought like a catchy podcast name, huh.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
But after this you explain the story, you're going to
find out why I actually want to check this pod
out at least for an episode.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
So I think we need to make it clear though,
that we want to congratulate her, not only on the podcast,
but her accomplishments, like that's an amazing moment.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
She's a collegiate champion. But there's a storyline that I
can't quite comprehend. Why no one else is jumping out like, yo,
this is wild, this is cool, this is it's.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Fatterening, it's trying, it's not coming from a place of
judgment or judge at all.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
But how in the world are people.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Not even bringing up the fact that, well, we've really
hadn't experienced this before in professional sports, to my knowledge,
if you're watching men play sports, to my knowledge, I'm
not saying it didn't happen. I'm saying, to my knowledge,
we don't know what was going on behind closed doors
but exactly. But the story that no one's talking about
is Azy Fudd, the number one pick, dates the star

(04:25):
player on the Dallas Wings, long term relationship with Page Beckers.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
So Page Beckers and As played together at Yukon. They're
already proven they could win together. So that's not the
criticism or question here. But how this has gone under
the radar is wild to me that they had the
number one pick and they you know, went with Azy
Fudd as predicted. But now on the Dallas Wings, you

(04:51):
have two women that are in a relationship together.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Right, and that could be reason to draft their number one.
It could be reason to maybe have avoided that because
you don't know how that's going to play out now.
You never know, but I do know this, you know,
speaking of your mets Rich, chemistry is hard to find.
Rich and I've been doing a show for a long
long time together. How many shows do you guys know

(05:19):
that have come and gone because people just can't get
it together.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Or eventually they were tired of.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
Each other and you can't force it, or one person
gets an ego, or there's a you know now clear
out of sorts. Clearly they have it, they've won together,
and they're a couple. But what happens if it doesn't last?
If I were management ownership, if I were part of
the Dallas Wings, this is something I would question.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Like, hey, where's this relationship going? Is this going to
continue to be a thing, because if things don't work out,
that could affect the locker room players and people take sides.
It's like to be a sticky situation.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
It's like going into business with family exactly, where like
that hey, like your uncle's like, hey, you want to
open a store together, and you're like, I don't know
if I want even you don't know if you want
to do business with a family member. And this is
the ultimate business. We're talking about a growing league and
you have two number one draft picks. You could look
at it positively and say, yo, they have proven not

(06:17):
only their chemistry on the court, but off the court.
There in a long term relationship, Like all right, let me.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
There's a reason that HR doesn't necessarily condone people at
the workplace.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Getting it on.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
It just provides for an awkward situation for a lot
of people. There's a lot of things that could happen.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
What makes Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase special they played together,
they played together in college, and then when they got
to reunite in the NFL, that chemistry know one where
he's going to be on the route, knowing each other's
tendencies was already there.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
They had this built in chemistry. And they're not sleeping together, right.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
So and that layer asy different layer of page complexity.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
That's really all it is.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
And it could it could really put their teammates in
an awkward situation and they're gonna know when they're squabbling,
I would imagine. Or you could say they're the most
ultimate consummate professionals that they.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Leave everything at home.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
But that's kind of tough to believe too, because, like
we said, relationships are not easy. They don't all last,
they don't all work out. If something goes wrong, what happens?
Then you have to ask yourself that how would you
not be concerned about that? And the reason is fascinating
is because again, if you watched the NBA growing up,
or MLB or anything. You never had to worry about

(07:38):
those things before. The reality is there is a huge
but people want to ignore.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
There's a huge.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
Lesbian LGBTQ community in the WNBA, and there's no doubting
that the fan base the league.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
So we're seeing you forgot the plus? Is there a
plus in there too?

Speaker 5 (07:53):
You're seeing for the first time we've seen before where
women on different teams have had things going on. But
these are two star players, same team, long term relationship,
and it's unprecedented in sports, and I think I think
it's a case. I we talked about this for a
second the other day, and I shifted my mind a
little bit because instead of saying, what if something goes wrong?

(08:17):
You ever go into something a little too positively with
the mindset of, hey.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
We'll worry about that when it happens.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
True, Yeah, because things are good now. That's fair, Like, hey,
it's good now, but there.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Is a what if.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
But I'm saying the Dallas Wings right now, they got
pagebackers and asy fud. This is a team I don't
know much about the WNBA, admittedly, but I can only
imagine if you've got two number one draft picks at
one together at Yukon. Now you have a core of
a team that could probably compete in this league. Right,
so you got two star players. You don't think the

(08:51):
mindset really should be, Hey, something goes wrong, we'll worry
about it. Then they've been in a long term relationship.
I'm sure we've talked about this the other day on
our afternoon show. HR is involved in every inter work
relationship in every other company. So we were saying, management
in the w NBA and for the Dallas Wings has
every right to be like, what's the nature of your relationship,

(09:13):
And I'm sure they're like, yeah, we're long term, we're happy,
we're in love, or whatever they had to say.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
I think the funnier part of the story, or the
more interesting part of the story has how it's not
even come up and people are pretending like this is
not worthy of even exploring.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
People, you know, talking about the angle.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Dumb thing is everyone so scared of being perceived as
like they're being judgy or saying the wrong thing. Are scared,
We're just it has to be that, And that's the
interesting part of it. It's like, hey, I'm not coming
from that place, so I could freely just talk about
it and not worry about what you think. And if
you're thinking something about me, I really don't care because
I'm comfortable in my thoughts and what I feel about it.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
I know what I'm thinking, Like it's super cool.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Like, for instance, I know they're different, but you ever
see one the other day the Curry brother were on
the court at the same time, right for the first
time we saw Giannis and his brother, or when Ken
Griffy Senior and Junior were in the same lineup, there's
something cool, Like if you're open minded and you say,
there's something pretty cool about these two women that are
in love that are basketball stars, they are.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Able to be on the same team, So maybe that
might be promoted.

Speaker 5 (10:19):
Yeah, maybe the mindset should be like, hey, if something
girls wrong, we'll worry about it. Then in the meantime,
we have two stars that are in love that are
gonna you know, they.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Even they didn't want that to be the story, and
that's fair too.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
It was very clear that draft that I saw the hoghlight.
I purposefully want you know what, if anything, it got me.
But but that's that's them and that's their wish. That
doesn't mean that people can't speculate even the good of
it and the potential bad of it down the line,
because you know what they could do too, something we
to my knowledge, something that we haven't experienced outside of

(10:54):
the WNBA and women's sports. Like let's say you really
want to get in Pagebacker's head, right, like she's running
the court.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Man, how do we how do we get in her head?

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Because that's part of sports, right, You're trying to win
the mental side of things, mental game.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Man, you just check your girlfriend real hard. Then what happens?

Speaker 4 (11:10):
Right?

Speaker 6 (11:10):
You?

Speaker 2 (11:11):
You could really change the outcome of the game knowing
these things.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
What if what if a teammates cool with one of
them but not the other? Yeah, there's a there's already
a built in alliance. Like you know when you think about, uh,
we can't pretend like these things don't happen any type
of any team. You'll they'll they'll talk about in a
clubhouse or locker room that there's you know, a little
clicks and stuff. You have a built in two person
superstar click. Now could be a good thing, could not?
I think other teams there could be some some some

(11:37):
taunting and little ribbing exactly right, Hey, rich In our
game of broadcast. But hold on, let me, let me
go back to what I was saying. Sure, I watched
the w NBA draft. And by the way, the the
Vegas odds of that a month ago would have been
like plus eighty thousand. Me watching the I mean though
there was televised, I watched it, and I secifically the

(12:00):
WNBA draft.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
You didn't know it was televised. I would were you
certain that it was televised? Well, I mean Entrance, I
mean she was. She put it on the map, you know,
forget about her. Were you mad that they didn't hug
Goodell there or no? I was.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
I was hoping they I was hoping they hugged the
commission Kathy Engelbert. No, Goodell Rich is hung up on
people hugging this guy.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
What did you say, Engelbert, humper dank?

Speaker 7 (12:23):
What did you say, like.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
A WNBA commissioner, Kathy Engelbert. Oh, I was like, so,
I that's what I thought you said.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
So I'm watching the w NBA draft and strategy, As
a former president Bush would say, strategy. There was definite strategy.
And when Azy Fudd got drafted, she gave hugs and
tapped up a million people you know who she didn't
Paige Becker's and I thought that was a deliberate, like,

(12:54):
you know, business pleasure. We could separate it. I'm in
this moment. I'm a supportive teammate from a distance.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
And that's fine because they're trying to set the narrative.
Narrative is about her being on the team as the
number one pick, and this is the moment that sort
of should be about. But there is this other layer
that we could fairly explore and without judgment, without you know,
upsetting people. But people are too scared to discuss it.
And I think it's really really interesting. And look, there

(13:22):
is the flip side to this. Yes, they could win together,
we've seen it. But how many times do you see
this great idea in broadcasting right where hey.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Husband and wife got the morning show and.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
It's great for like a year, Like wow, this is
really wild, and man, they really bring all their personal
stuff on the air.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
This is fantastic fast forward. You know, grand open in
grand clothing.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Because you're working under pressure with that person. You never
get a break from that person.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
You bring that home with that person, Like all of
these things do factor in and if you're starting a
business or a team or a franchise or whatever. How
is that not a concerning part of the equation. That's
all we're saying, not ruining against it. I wanted to
work out and be a cool story, but working it
should be or could be celebrated, but it could also
be very sticky and going into business, owning properties, opening

(14:11):
a small business, doing anything with friends or family. The
Bob and Linda Show always ends up the Bob Show
and Linda gets the house, and that's just how it is,
and that's how it is, and that's how the cookie crumbles.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
You guys brought up the potential trash talk. Remember how
KD told Carmelo that Lalla tasted like Cherio's.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Yes, yes, he was getting in the head of this opponent.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
It took him out of his game, became a story.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
It was a story. It was a it was a
big sports story. It's true, you know, a pony.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Opposing teams are going to use this as ammo, and
that's that's part of the game. But it is fair
to speculate. That's really the point of bringing this up
here on our show. How is everybody pretending like this
is in the story.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
He knows right. The bigger story a bunch of frauds
and phony Baloney's the.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
Backup story, Like the secondary story is what's actually happening.
The main story is how the sports media world jumps
on every salacious headline.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Give credit, Rich, and the credit goes to us and
Dan Byer on our Monday through Friday regular five to
seven on the East two to four on the West,
Covino and Rich Show, we talked about this, and you
know we're speculating even more here in for Dan Patrick.
I saw one other dude talk about on social media,
and I'm sitting there doing the bull scroll all day
like everybody else, scroll and scoll and scold and scroll in.

(15:34):
Jeff Perlman, former writer of SI, is the only other
guy that says, I can't believe nobody's talking about this,
and you better believe.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I hit him up and I was like, oh really,
oh really, really, Jeff. Here you go.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
Here's a clip of us talking about it, because we are.
And it goes to show you how scared the media is.
They're walking on eggshells with the story, and they don't
have to.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
Be every every company.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
It's an interesting looking at our feedback on the intro chat,
Matt hit us up in Minnesota said, I just got
moved into the HR department where I work. The paperwork
we have when people are in relationships, dude is crazy.
He goes the w n B A must have similar protocol.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Rich, if you were making whoopee with with what seventies
game shows?

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Yeah, no, theie wed game.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
If we're making whoop with a colleague, you don't think
that would be of concern to the company.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Of course it would be.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
So to pretend like this isn't a deal. It doesn't
have to be a bad thing, but to pretend like
it isn't fascinating is also very fake.

Speaker 8 (16:50):
And this as you know, we touched on this earlier
in the week or whenever we started talking about this
this story, and you know, Danny mentioned this isn't the
first time that teammates on in WNB a team of dated,
but it's never been this high profile, this front and center,
where it's like first first a first round pick last year,
a first round pick this year. Oh and they happen
to be have been teammates at Yukon, and they happen

(17:11):
to have been dating and still are.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
That's what makes this we even a bigger story.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
We talk about when these social issues infiltrate sports. If
the person's good, it's a bigger story, right, like like yeah, triangles.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
In in the w NBA.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
When Jackie Robinson entered the world of baseball, you know
what made him breaking the color barrier even more exceptional?
He was like the best player so like it were
like and he they always say he was the perfect guy.
He dealt with racism and he was like he somehow
rose above all that and was a remarkable player, one
of the best ever. So Jackie Robinson will forever be

(17:49):
a legend. In this story, when the two lesbian players
are in a relationship and their two number one draft
picks and people care about they care remember the first
openly gay football player.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
It was like a backup nobody that. It was like, well,
well are you the ambassador of that community? I didn't
forget his name even, wasn't it Sam something, Sam Smith?
Are you talking about Michael Sham? Michael thought? Was he
the first ever gay NFL player?

Speaker 8 (18:17):
Certainly not to be. He came out while he was
being drafted, before he got drafted, yea or something like that.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Yeah, But but I'm saying like, when you are higher level,
the story is going to be there, is all.

Speaker 7 (18:27):
We're saying.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Fascinating, that's all.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
And uh shame on everybody else for not even bringing
it up, because it's okay to bring it up and speculate.
But again, that's not to take away from the accomplishments congratulation.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
A pretty cool angle.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
I listen, every sport looks for their angles, right, and
I think the w NBA, who had momentum with Caitlyn Clark, Yeah,
the w NBA could lean into like Caitlyn Clark and
Angel Reese was the momentum that gave that lee like
a spark, right, Like like it was like a dead
campfire that did we see a little spark the.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
Sparks out of this. Now we've been talking about it
this past week. Will Fudd talk about it on her
iHeart podcast. I mean she should yeah, right.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
Right, I mean, well, just why don't you fud around
and find out why don't you send you this clip?

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Maybe she'll play this on her iHeart podcast all the
love we're showing her. But I'll say this, it's an
interesting story. The w NBA should lean into it because.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Any any type of any type of fun.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
Storyline in the sports world. We could pretend people don't
love the dramatics. If people didn't love dramatics stuff, people
want to give a crap so much about this Diana
Rossini Mike.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Rabel story because people people live for drama.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
And if they and if you say, if you say
it's all about the sports, then why are you so
worried about vacation photos of uh poor Diana Rossini?

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Yeah? Who who hired the private investigator? I want to
know that. Who's Who's at the bottom of this.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
You have sixty seconds to tell your story, covin real quick.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Sorry, we are rooting for asy fun and Becker's rich
and I had a bright idea of doing like a
spin off with our girlfriends at the time. This is
years ago, Like why don't we do a show? We
called it Ball and Chain, like the demo show, Like
just like years and years ago before we met our
current girlfriend and wife. Right, dude, it got so awkward

(20:23):
first day in because we're not used to working with
our significant others in.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
That way, kind into a fight like on the first show.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
It could be a fun spinoff, right like oh the
Bonus podcast, no show won and done grand opening grand
clothing because it's not easy. So we wish them luck
and uh hey, any thoughts, We'll take your feedback. Next,
get everyone holding on the phone, and then we'll get
to Big Mike who runs this Take who runs this place?

Speaker 4 (20:50):
Next?

Speaker 5 (20:51):

I want to thank everybody for hanging out with Coveno
on Rich today CNR on FSR.

Speaker 5 (21:44):
I just talked to our video guy Spot who's working remotely.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Yeah, we're streaming live. You can watch what you hear
at Covino on rich FSR.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
What's up? Kay talk atos.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
He does a YouTube, baby.

Speaker 5 (21:55):
He does a great job with all our graphics and
probably the best video guy in the biz. But I
gotta be honest when I FaceTime him to troubleshoot something.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Guy's not wearing any clothes. He's like, I mean my ownderwear.
Should you put a shirt on when you're faceliving someone?

Speaker 1 (22:09):
Maybe?

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Why are we screenshotting all though you've known him so long?
Does it really matter? I don't need to see his
nipples at seven thirty in the morning, all right. Uh,
it's Cavine.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
On wretch in for the great Damn Patrick Trouble Sleeping
introducing Zkliner.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
Oh we met the people at z Kliner at the
Super Bowl. Great peep, great people. The revolutionary revolutionary recliner
designed by Flex Steel.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
The z cliner was engineered with RESTful sleep in mind,
making it an ideal bed alternative.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
Oh it is a healthy life starts with a healthy
night's sleep. Visit zkliner dot com slash Dan Patrick today
to find z Kliner at a store near you.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Now I'm Steve Cavino.

Speaker 3 (22:47):
That is Rich Davis, Danny G's our super producer, Sam
is here, and Mike's sounds stand by waiting just to
say hi Mike. There's debate on whether or not he
runs this place, but he definitely runs his take. And
we're to talk superstitions in just a minute. But we
have a few phone calls, all right, eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox, people calling about Mendoza and Becker's

(23:08):
and more.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Let's say hello, let's say good morning.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Where do you want to start, Danny, You guys just
finished your w NBA conversation. Let's start with Laura in Arizona.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Hey, what's up Laura?

Speaker 4 (23:18):
Hey?

Speaker 10 (23:19):
Yeah, that's actually Peabody.

Speaker 4 (23:21):
Oh oh or was on that lone?

Speaker 10 (23:24):
Guys? Well she she grabbed the phone for me.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
Oh okay, what's he's got a secretary?

Speaker 2 (23:29):
No?

Speaker 10 (23:30):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, that's my lady. Uh no, you
guys have known me for twenty years.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
So what's up, buddy?

Speaker 10 (23:39):
Hey, what's up Steve?

Speaker 2 (23:40):
So yeah, let's get that buddy's buddy? What's up? Man?

Speaker 10 (23:45):
Yeahah? Yeah, No, what the whole with the whole thing
about like working together, It doesn't ever work man, it
never works.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
It's tough, but it always kind of Yeah, listen.

Speaker 10 (23:56):
There's always some kind of thing that gets in the way.
There's always some argument that that messes with your your
your daily anything. And it's really difficult to try to
try to make things work in a business aspect when
you're when you're living together and stuff like that.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
You know, I don't want to push negative vibes on them,
because nothing bothers me more than when I'm doing something
someone's like, well, those are all going to work, and
maybe for you projecting it's fair to speculate. Yeah, I
hate when people project on me, so I don't want
to do that to them. But you know, peatbody is
on the right track in that. Most times it's hard
to separate, Like what what if Pagebeckers and asy Fudd,

(24:36):
you know, honestly do get in a little dispute over
something to who did the dishes or something some nonsense.
They're like, you do carry little things, little resentments, and
when you see someone every day. Sometimes someone starts working
with their husband or wife and they think at first
this is great, and then they realize, oh my god,
I don't I have no time away from them.

Speaker 2 (24:55):
And where's your escape? Where's your sanctuary?

Speaker 8 (24:57):
You know you're if you're if you're living together, you're
at home, you have to fee each other, you're at work,
you face each other.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
We do.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
I mean, maybe they figure this all out and that's great,
grand wonderful.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yay. I wish him well. Who else do we got?

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Danny g your boy trip in Vegas is on the line.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
Hey, trip knee, Hey.

Speaker 11 (25:14):
Good morning. Guy's gotta getting up at six o'clock to
be a loyal Carl. It's always good to talk to y'all.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Man, what's up?

Speaker 12 (25:21):
You know what?

Speaker 11 (25:22):
No one cares. I mean, it's okay, it's just accepted.
I mean, if it was something to do with Caitlin Clark,
then it would matter. But you know what, let him be.
I'm happy for him.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
But I think it's great. I don't think it's a
matter of rich I don't know, it's not.

Speaker 5 (25:33):
It's never been a matter of like accepting a lesbian
relationship in the w NBA.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
I think it's a matter of this is unprecedented. When
have we ever seen two stars?

Speaker 5 (25:41):
Like we joked yesterday, you never have to worry about like, Oh,
I wonder if Derek Jeter and uh, Marianna Rivera getting
it on.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
I never wondered if Don Mattingley and Dave Winfield we're
gonna have a lover's quarrel before the game.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
You know, never had to worry or think about that.

Speaker 4 (25:53):
And Rich, let's be honest, Wes inside our YouTube chat
said it doesn't hurt that these two are very easy
on the eyes.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
To both the track.

Speaker 5 (26:00):
I wasn't gonna say because I didn't want to sound that,
you know, I didn't want to sound uh.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
We didn't say it to the listeners. I was gonna say
because when I.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
Saw a Zy Fudd the other night, I'm like, damn,
you know, Big Mike runs his place.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
He has his take come up. But Mike, you have
thoughts on this though, yeah, I do.

Speaker 7 (26:12):
As a matter of fact, you keep saying this is unprecedented,
the coverage is unprecedented. I'm not sure this is the
first time that we have seen a long term relationship
between two teammates and the w n b A. We
may just never have heard about.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
That's true, and you can say that about men's sports too.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
We just made absolutely I was kind of alluding to that,
like that we when I say that we know of.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
Yeah, the possibilities are absolutely there. Don't you love that
show heated rivalry?

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (26:39):
And frankly, it's none of our damn business anyway. So
who gets the rest? You know you ain't kidding? All right?

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Uh? Any?

Speaker 9 (26:44):
Dan?

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Have we done?

Speaker 4 (26:45):
Dan? You want to talk about? Back up to our one?
Jeb in Houston wants to talk about Mendoza and how
wrong Rich is.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Well, if someone saying I'm wrong, you guys probably all
want to hear that definite Rich is wrong.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Great?

Speaker 2 (26:58):
What's up man?

Speaker 13 (27:00):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 7 (27:00):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (27:01):
Brother.

Speaker 12 (27:01):
One thing people are talking about enough is the wide
receiver combo. Like back in the day, Jamar Chase, Burrow,
Tuba and jam and Waddle, rod Smith and Lay even
though they were Idaho State. A lot of people don't
know that, but they always talk about getting a left tackle.
Why not bring in your star wide receiver from the

(27:24):
start and give them confidence and they grow together, they
learn as rookies together. I think that's very understated, and
they possibly could move up or even get him.

Speaker 4 (27:34):
And you're talking about getting Cooper with Cooper yeah at
number thirty six, if he's still there.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
With the Raiders draft equity, which they have some picks
and you could wait till later rounds for line helped energy.
If he's around, it's not a bad idea. Then you
would have a wide receiver, you'd have rock bowers, you'd
have Ashton Genty Like you're pretty much saying, here's every
weapon we have now we just need to protect them.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
That's the only issue, right exactly.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
Wouldn't be bad at it, but they have so many
other needs that that's not something you have to give Mendoza.

Speaker 5 (28:08):
All right, Well know we gotta do. We got to
give the Mike to our pal Mike who runs his place.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Let's go produce the Microphone Assassin.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
It's time for Mike who runs this take?

Speaker 4 (28:20):
Who? Big Mike may get to be in charge of
the segment, but he still doesn't run this place. He
really doesn't even run this segment when you think about it,
because this Mike can be turned off by Sam in
any moment.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
That may be true, but Big Mike does get to
pick the topic and then cn our offer their strong
opinions on it. Consider it a warm up to Midweek
Mature Mike who runs this take?

Speaker 4 (28:41):
Who? Mike?

Speaker 2 (28:42):
This guy right here? You got, Oh gentlemen, how are you.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
Ever heard of it?

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Mikeel here he is.

Speaker 7 (28:48):
Welcome to the early morning. This is my time. Welcome
to my time. Oh man, I ever heard of glad
you guys could get here earlier.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Is that why you're so grumpy when we normally see
it because he's been up all day?

Speaker 7 (28:56):
No, I'm just grumpy. That's just how ill nature. Come on,
showed up, ready to fight today, ready to fight. What
do you got for today?

Speaker 2 (29:07):
What's your what? What take you bring it to the table.

Speaker 7 (29:09):
So today we are going to talk about ridiculous superstitions
that you idiots actually think make your team play better. Okay,
we fans that we do his fans, I'll give you mine,
I'll give you okay. And and I'm not immune to
this of course. Uh So, back in the day, I'm
at the Santa Monica Pier and I'm shooting hoops at

(29:29):
that stupid like twelve foot high rim that's like half size.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Yeah, you're shooting bricks. Yeah right, that's what I do.

Speaker 7 (29:36):
So miraculously out of nowhere, I actually make the shot.
A couple of bounces, I get myself a rubber UCLA basketball. Okay,
And I'm sorry, Dan Buyer's not here because Dan Byer
remembers the basketball. Every March Madness tournament, I would bust
out that basketball and dribble it around these hallways and

(29:57):
I'm you know, I'm acting like and every time the
Bruins played, I had that ball with me all the time.
And the question is did it help? Did it make
the Bruins better? Do I really believe that?

Speaker 2 (30:11):
You know?

Speaker 3 (30:12):
They making me think so many awesome things here because
we all do these stupid things, like even if you're
just shooting hoops, you can't leave that.

Speaker 5 (30:19):
Court until you drain a three. I taught my son,
By the way, it's funny. My son is six. I
taught Ben this, and.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
I'm sure Richie you you probably got your wife only
because you said I'm gonna get her if I make
the shot.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
So you were in grade school and you're like, Jessica
is gonna like me if I make this shot? Right,
Because everybody does this stupid stuff he talks about. I
taught my son that. The other day.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
He was playing basketball with his little buddies on a
little djustabel rim.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Yeah, he made a sweet.

Speaker 5 (30:44):
Shot to go, Ben, we're walking away, we're going home,
and then he took another shot.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
I'm like, d.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
You gotta make you God, I'll make it. But I
think to really break it down. Look, I'm not gonna
psychoanalyze why we do these things, but you know, maybe
that's our way of feeling that that we took part
in this victory. Like man, I did my part, like
he had his Bruins ball and.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
That's why they won.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
You see, I was part of this right, like, and
it works.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
Like we all do these things, whether they help or not,
but we like to think that they do.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
What are yours? And do you think there's any truth
to this?

Speaker 3 (31:20):
Like, you know, maybe truthfully, if you really want to
get hippie dippy, you're kind of a hippie mic, you're
sending good vibes out there.

Speaker 10 (31:25):
Bro.

Speaker 7 (31:26):
You know, maybe it's working. I did for for Dodger games.
I'll take all my Dodger hats and I'll make sure
they can all see the TV while I'm watching the game.
It's important every day they need all the vibes they
can get.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
So yeah, I don't.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
Consider myself superstitious, just a little stitious. Yeah, And I
do do this and I don't think it's a big deal.
But like if it's opening day, Like you gotta be
you gotta come out like you're psychologically a member of
that team. You wore your Yankee road jersey on opening
day because they were on the road.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (31:56):
But and then I bust out my Yankee Watch you
bust out your Yankee shown and he's like, you put
on your you put on your gear because it's game day,
and you feel like, I gotta do this because we
got to start on the right foot, and I, you know,
I want to do my part to bring the good
vibes because I'm a little stitious.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Tell you do you are you talking about only sports?
Does this goes goes in life over the place.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
Like when you give your junks of a pep talk
in the bathroom before you I got a couple.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
I got one that's uh.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
Like, I'm not a very religious guy, but before every
flight takes off, I do a little prayer.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Okay, do you do a little like in your seat?
Like can't get me through this.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
This was funny to me about people saying they're not
very religious, because you know, when your health kicks in
or your safety is in jeopardy, man, you get real religious,
real fast.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
I'll give you I'll give you two.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
This one is like, not to be all serious, but
I had a buddy that I would play softball with
that passed away. So every time I bat, when I
play in my Rex Bufle League, I write his initials
in the dirt real quick before ever at bath.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
That's a little superstitial and and in honor.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
And every time my dad has a bet on a
game and he needs someone to miss a field goal,
he crumples up a napkin or a piece of paper
and as.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
The guy's about to kick it, he goes, I'll miss it.
And he's convinced that that it will help. That will
help the guy miss a field goal.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
I think if it helps you, if you're playing the game,
or you know, it gets you in the right mental space.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
I mean, you know you hear these stories all the time,
the way boxes of the world very superstitious.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
They get into a routine if it worked that day,
and it helps, like the famous or the infamous story
of Derek Jeter in the slump and he put on
the gold thong.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Have you heard that story? Gold thong? What if you
butt it off from Steiner Sports? I know, I h
it's funny.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
It was the Giambi story where the Giambino said, Yo,
Jeter put on the thong.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
It works. The very next to that bat he hit
a home run. Like people believe this.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
What was the name of that slugger in the e
eighties home run hitter that would eat a live chicken
before every game, So you know it's funny. I would
say my dad would do the field goal thing. I
make my kids. If it's like third and short and
my team's on defense the Niners on defense.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
I'm like, come on, stop them. I go kids, say
it and they have to say stop them.

Speaker 5 (34:23):
If they don't say them like say it, you didn't
say it.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Stop.

Speaker 7 (34:27):
I have been known to scream noon in at my
TV on a regular basis.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
You might be surprised by this. The guys won't because
ever since I've been trying to keep them on time
with the clock. I have stress balls in here, but
part of your ene. But during Dodger games, I have
this Dodger one during Raiders games.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Yeah he needs it for game.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
Day, right, I definitely need the Raiders one. Little kid
toys like little dog toys. Dodger here's for the Dodgers.
But I got these and the kids are all about
these needles.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
The Raider ones way more worn out than the Dodgers.
One more stress.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
Seriously, if something goes wrong. I tossed the ball and
I'm like, I'm not going to hold the ball anymore
right now. And then, if you know what I'm saying,
so base it's kind of like sitting in the same
spot sure, like, oh they scored a touchdown when I
was over here, I'm gonna go back to that spot.

Speaker 3 (35:15):
Supersession is almost like feeding into your OCD sometimes because
if I don't do this, then it's not gonna wait
for the right. Yeah, it becomes a ritual that you
have to do because in your mind it's not gonna
and things aren't gonna work out, right, he says.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
He says, I need to do something ritualistic. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
It could be the dumbest thing. Did you ever see
that video? It was viral last year.

Speaker 5 (35:34):
There was a there was some woman who recorded her
dude that he went outside, I don't have to smoke
a sig or something whatever he was doing, and his
team started coming back. So he started watching the game
in the cold from outside the window, and he's and
she's like.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Look at my stupid husband.

Speaker 5 (35:51):
He won't come in the house because the team started
making a comeback while he was outside. And with that said,
I think involved on that the legendary story of one
of my fever Mets, Keith Hernandez in eighty six during
their comeback you know, gets by Buckner, Mookie Wilson, Mets
were down to their final strike. He was in the
clubhouse already like, oh man, we lost. When the Mets

(36:11):
at a rallying, he wouldn't leave the seat he was in.
So you'll never see Keith Hernandez in the dugout during
that rally against the Red Sox in eighty six is
he was in the clubhouse and he's like, I'm not moving.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
So it's Mike who runs this take, and his take
is that whether it works or not, we all have
these superstitious things that we do in hopes that our
day goes well and our team wins. And there's so
many players that we see that are like crazy, like
remember nomar Garcia Para and again we've seen so many
players do these things. What stands out to you? What's

(36:44):
your routine? We'll take your phone calls. Next eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 8 (37:43):
I was telling Danny this in the break that when
a Danette leaves the show like a well, sure of course,
McK lovin.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
A few years ago, Marvin came up, became a Danette.

Speaker 8 (37:54):
Now a seatan leaving and Dylan is gonna and Dylan
joining it's like a Supreme Court justice retiring or you know,
moving on to something else.

Let's do it.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Let's do it. Who do we got, Danny J.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
Let's start in Indiana with Greg.

Speaker 5 (39:14):
Indiana, Greg, we're talking about superstitions. Mike, who runs his place,
came in and wanted to know if we had any
sports superstitions.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
What's up, man?

Speaker 6 (39:23):
Hey, guys, enjoy the show.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Thanks man.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (39:26):
A couple of years ago, when the Pacers had their
run made it to the finals, I wore the same
hat and T shirt the whole run until the last game,
Game seven, and I couldn't find my hat and Halliburton
popped his achilles and it's been downhill there ever seon,
things like that happen.

Speaker 5 (39:44):
Yeah, you know, I have I have a I have
a weird question. You know a lot of guys like
I'm not shaving until during the playoff run. What if
your wife took that uh, that method, but your team won?
Would you deal with a hairy wife and men team one? Honey,

(40:05):
I'm not shaving for all the NBA playoffs?

Speaker 2 (40:08):
What anything? Harry, Wife, Mary life? Harry.

Speaker 5 (40:12):
Here, let's go one more call and then we welcome
our good pal, Coach Ball Game. If you don't follow
Coach Ball Game, James Lowe, great dude, honestly an ambassador
to the game of baseball. So great with the kiddos
of your coach. You got little kids, even if you don't.
The guy's a great interview. Great listen, he'll be hearing
