You're our producer, hanging out on this Black Friday.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
We got football going on.
Speaker 5 (01:07):
We've got some rivalry college games going on, not the
big one that Dan Byer is waiting for.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
How do you feel about that game?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Oh, it's been an awful week. It just the stomach
is in knots.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Yes, Ohio State Michigan.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yes, Okay, I don't know. Yes, it's very nerve wracking.
It is a it is a must win game. It's
honestly the only game that matters. It is the only
game that matters throughout all of them, all of them
leading up to this game. It's the only game that matters.
It's been when the Ohio State beat Rutgers on Saturday.
(01:43):
It started the next day. I honestly have not felt
good all week. I've had a pit in my stomach
waiting for this game, and I'm just afraid to see
how it could turn out tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Because recent history has not favored.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
No, it hasn't. No, people forget the twenty years before that.
They want to just talk about the last four, right, right,
But let's just forget about all of those other games
twenty years ago. It's what have you done for me lately,
is Isaac pointed out earlier. Yes, it's Monty honestly, Ohio State.
It's a ten point favorite in this game, and they
(02:22):
could be a twenty eight point favorite or a twenty
eight point underdog. But losing the last four is the
only thing that is on your mind to not try
to make it five, ye and not wanting to have
it five It ruins the entire year.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Yeah, I can imagine it does. It's fun to not
care and just be an outsider looking.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
At your passions are basketball in baseball and if the
Clippers beat the Lakers, awesome, right, yes, but then they
played three more times in the season. Isaac Low and
Kron you know, would know this. I'm sure he has
a UCLA and USC divided. How sold. You've got one game, right,
(03:02):
it's tomorrow, and whoever in that household has breaking rights
for the rest of the year.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
That's it, right, or as my wife would say, long
Crawn can't close his effing mouth. Actually though that's an
actual statement. By the way, you did it right, because
you actually when you just introduced that whole thing, you
said UCLA first.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Oh wow, that's how it so not.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Only is my bread butter, but everyone in my life's
bread is better. Just to placate my wife's irrational love
of UCLA, can we delete that from the podcast?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
But there's no other opportunity the Dodgers when they play
the Giants, right, Ryan Berschinger, Dodgers lose a game to
the Giants. Guess what, we play them ten more times
this season.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
It's true, It's true. We'll get them next time.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
We'll get them when they come to La Right with
that or the Padres or anybody else. This is a
one time deal for three hours. We're truly every single
snap that matters.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Every It's crazy, it does oh that I want to
throw up and I don't even care, and I feel
it now.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
I feel it.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
I call them three and a half hour root canals.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
I don't enjoy I think I don't enjoy any of it.
None of it is fun. It's supposed to be fun,
but none of it is fun.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
You really put that into perspective for me, and I
feel like people need to learn how to.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Put things in the right perspective in life. Aaron Andrews
just came out and was dragged.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
In case you missed it, I doubt you missed it
because of how much people have been talking about Aaron
Andrews comments that she said on her podcast with Clarissa Thompson.
But people these days really just let's put things into perspective.
Everybody one line and then people go down this rabbit
hole without actually hearing what she said, to go on
(04:51):
and take her down and drag her.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
We have the sound of it right.
Speaker 6 (04:55):
Perfect, instead of me telling you what she said, Can
I just say one thing because I think we have
to read her tweet and then hear what she actually think.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yes, because I think it's the reading of the tweet
that got everything in the wrong way, right, the reading
or the reading of the Awful Announcing.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
It was the Awful Announcing post on tweet.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yes. Yes, So when you when you read what Awful
Announcing ended up having to say about what Aaron Andrews
said in the quote that they they pulled from from her,
I think it sounds different from than what we're going
to hear because this is what this is kind of
what got us into.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
This mess, right, great point.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yes, so this is what Aaron Andrews Awful Announcing wrote
in their tweet that, by the way, if you just
looked at the tweet. It says Aaron Andrews opens up
on career sacrifices quote, I miss all holidays end quote
and that then started the dominoa that.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Started everything, and people, instead of actually hearing what she said,
just went off of that tweet. Thank you Dan Byer
from Awful Announcing. But this is actually what she said
in her podcast.
Speaker 7 (06:10):
Eric and Florda had been married for eleven years with
no kids. Spouse and I both have strong careers. Mine
is high stress, requires a lot of travel, long days
and lots of weekends. I have two choices VP rule
at another company for much better pay but same stress level,
or small step back where the pay is the same
but should get back some of the quality of my life.
(06:32):
My wife says she supports either decision. I feel pressure
as a man to provide for her, even though she
says not necessary. What do you think, as women slash
spouse's significant others? What should I do well? Eric in Florida,
What a thoughtful question.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I think you also have to take into account which
one do you like doing the most? Because this is
what I say to everybody who asks about our job,
and this is what one of my first professors. Well,
he said it in a way that was very, very
to the point, and because I grew up with a
dad who was on television for a living, I got it.
(07:07):
He said, if you don't want to make forty thousand
in your first job, get out. If you don't want
to be told you need a nose job, get out.
If you don't want to be divorced, get out. If
you don't want to work holidays, get out. And I
don't see it like that, but I say, you gotta
love what you do because I miss all holidays. I
didn't get married till I was in my forties. Not
that that is going to be your route, but I
(07:29):
live out of a suitcase. I you know, I miss
a lot of stuff. I missed a lot of weddings.
I miss a lot of events. You have to love
it to get you through the fact I'm not going
to be home for Thanksgiving next week. You know our
Christmas is cut short.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Yeah, but I'm getting d ckery lions. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
How could you hear that and decide that Aaron Andrews
needs to be dragged through the mud.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
It's what happens in social media. First of happens it
so because there was depth to it, I think the
length of it, it's easy to take the even Monty
if you just take the quote. This is what one
of my first professors said, because Aaron Andrews got into
it with another reporter and mentioned the forty thousand dollars
and the nose job and the divorced thing, and they
(08:17):
took that and ran with it and made their comments
saying that they listened to the whole clip. But that's
what happens. It was it was taken out of context.
And I feel that's the perfect definition of what happens
when it's taken out of context.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Absolutely, But in reality, this is the world that we
live in when you work in sports like this. This
isn't every This is normal for us, and I feel
like what's interesting is some people don't realize that. My
volleyball teammate, Michael Holt, Hi, Michael, He would ask me
a couple of weeks, I.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Got you first, the first and last year with them. Yeah, Michael, let's.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Put him on hold. Well, his actually his cousin.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Can we make that segment like for now on? Like
when we named someone, just put them on.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I'm putting him on blast. Specifically.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
Also, his cousin is an Olympic volleyball player, and so
he's very his name is you know, That's.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Why I put it out there.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
But he was like, hey, I'm gonna be around for
Thanksgiving because he's from Ohio. What do you doing for Thanksgiving?
And I was like, I'm working and he's like, oh,
I'm so sorry for you. And I was like, Michael, no,
you don't have to be sorry for me. This is
this is my life and I love it.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
This is how it goes.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
We work when people are off because there's games going
on and it's just my lifestyle. But he genuinely looked
at me like he felt sorry for me Dan, and
I was like, dude, no, I'm good. This is this
part of it, Like, yeah, we miss some stuff here
and there. But I the word sacrifice. I feel like
people if you use the word sacrifice, people don't like
that because then it's like, well, what about everybody else's sacrifices? Yes,
(09:47):
that word I think is like such a trigger for
some people. What about the other sacrifices that everybody else.
I'm not saying you're not sacrificing. She was just responding
to a listener, and I think she was dragged for
using the word sacrifice and then the forty thousand, because
people are like forty thousand when you talk about I
was making fifteen thousand in my first job, which I
guess the number was a little bit off, but it's
(10:08):
just annoying to see that clickbait, that awful announcing doing
this on purpose so that you go to their site
and start looking at their information. I don't think she
said absolutely anything wrong. If anything, she may have just
shed some information on young aspiring reporters, journalists, anybody that
wants to work in media, because it's not just in sports.
(10:30):
If you want to work in media, you're gonna work
rough hours. Sure you know what I'm saying. So she
probably just actually shed some light on a situation that
maybe people weren't really aware of.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Had nothing to do with the troops.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
It had nothing to do I had nothing.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
To do with anybody making minimum wage, you wage being
out of work, had nothing to do with it.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
It had nothing to do with that, because people are
respect What about the people in the service industry. Yes,
I worked in the service industry. I also was working
those days. I've done that too, and also typically on
those days you get more money. You know, there's double Hey,
there's other things involved, but like why yeah, why are
you bringing up other things that have nothing to do
with what Aaron Andrews is talking about?
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Retail? You think retail? Whytn't you on Monday and Tuesday
Wednesday of this week?
Speaker 7 (11:10):
No?
Speaker 3 (11:10):
I mean if there are actual shops around at the
point being like no, like it's today, it's tomorrow, it's
the next day, like those are the and by the way,
all of those days, all the way through December twenty fifth,
absolutely right, Yes, that's it's a come with the territory
sort of deal. And every job has it. It's perks,
it's drawbacks. That's what I thought she was getting at.
(11:31):
There's perks of the deal, there's non perks of the deal.
There's a part of the job. There's not part of
the job. They even put on the on the Calm
Down podcast, they even used part of her quote of
explaining and even even that portion of it may not
have done Aaron Andrews any favors, but it's it's someone
asking advice, and it's Aaron Andrews sharing her experience. She
(11:55):
wasn't going out there saying feel sorry for me as
you see me on five in Detroit.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
Not even sort of no.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
And at the end of the clip she's even saying,
I get to do Packers and Lions on Thanksgiving and
very likely and I don't know if it's the case,
but probably gets a private jet and is able to
be home late Thanksgiving night or today or depending on
the schedule. But if not, that's not even the point.
It's just the point of that's what's not what she
(12:23):
was talking about at all. And others see this and
they see blood in the water and it's just shark
after shark after shark.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
And her big picture, her big message was you just
have to love what you do because this guy has
a predicament with his wife.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
That's what the letter was.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
So all she's trying to say is like you what,
you just have to love what you're gonna do, because
then whatever else, if it's not going the way you
think or what you expected, if you love what you do,
you're gonna be fine. And it's just like, I mean,
it's funny because I've said this to you. I was like,
nobody likes to work.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
That is a lie. You can love your job. I
love my job. Nobody likes to work, going like the
idea of like to go to work. Everybody feels that way.
But you can love your job. So it's just like,
why why do people do the upsets me?
Speaker 5 (13:07):
It's like you, you're pretending that you didn't know what
she was actually saying, just so you can talk your smack.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
They wanted to put themselves up on their own platform
as well, like use it to their advantage to try
to make it look like they actually care about people
that may be right now dealing with unemployment issues or
salary issues or time at home issues. That's that's what
(13:33):
it's trying to be. It's trying to garner that support.
But it's very very insincere and it's not real, and
it's it's fake. It's almost farming for your own engagement
to go to that point, because I don't I think
that if other people wanted to step up for themselves
that they could do so. I don't know if other
and Jenna Laane was the reporter from ESPN that her
(13:55):
and Aaron Andrews went back and forth on. I don't
know if Jenna Lane felt that Aaron Andrews was speaking
for her in that situation, why would she think that? Yeah,
she wasn't. She was speaking to a guy who sent
an email saying, do I take this job that is
going to be more money and a better position, that
is going to take me away from the things that
I really really value, but it's probably better for the family.
(14:18):
How would you do it? And Aaron Andrews shared her
own experiences of you got to do what you do.
If you love doing it, take it. That was her
advice and her way of backing it up. It's it
is crazy, manzi. The great thing about this is here,
you and I are sitting here on a holiday, and
many places aren't open or closed for the closed for work,
so people have today off. Who wouldn't want to be
(14:40):
here on a game where the Eagles and Bears are
playing and Lane Kiffin maybe is coaching as last game,
you know, against Old miss So there's there's pluses and
minuses to everything. And that's I think. What also Aaron
Andrews is saying is yeah, I may miss out on
Thanksgiving and I miss out on Christmas, but these are
also the things that I that I have to do.
It wasn't I miss out on Christmas and I miss
(15:02):
out on Thanksgiving end of statement.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
And feel sorry for me, Like none of that was
what she was projecting or saying. And yeah, Jenna Lane
from ESPN coming out and saying I'm not I'm not
trying to attack erin what are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Yes you are, Yes you are.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
You literally are saying that she said this and we
should consider the other people.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
That has nothing to do with what she's saying. It's nothing.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
It's just frustrating that in today's day and age, when
you have access to the actual information, to the actual sound,
to the actual clip, and people still decide to no, No,
that's not what she meant.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
It's this one line. This is what she meant.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
She wants us to feel sorry for her when there's
other people who are struggling. How did we get here?
Speaker 3 (15:46):
We got here because of the shortening of the comments
of social media. The Calm Down. This is the headline
on the Calm Down podcast that they used. You miss
out on a lot of holidays, weddings, events, and you
live out of a suitcase, says Aaron Andrews, explaining why
you have to love what you do to work in sports.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
Wow, that sounds way different.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
That's a lot different than and even that doesn't even
go as far as it should with the whole context
of it that goes out. It's a lot different than
I miss Christmas, you know, I miss all holidays.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Right, that's not the sacrifices that I make sure sure.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
I also wonder this, Manzi, is this an industry topic,
meaning we're in sports media. I'm not at the level
of Aaron Andrews, but she's a member of the Fox family.
She's on Fox National TV. But does this translate outside
(16:42):
of like these walls. I'm curious, dude, do people read
what Aaron Andrews says and it is like, huh, ridiculous quote?
Because the biggest hubbub have come from fellow peers in broadcasting.
And I don't know if you can answer it because
you're in the same walls I'm in.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Is a great question. Why don't we extend it out
to the listeners.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Eight seven seven nine nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six six three six'. Nine i'm curious if
they side With Aaron andrews or. Not Does aaron andrews
explanation resonate with? Them do they, respond you, know unkindly to.
THAT i am very curious because in our territory here
On christmas, time WHAT i, mean what busier time with
(17:28):
college football in THE nfl coming up in the holidays
in this stretch run. Here sometimes it's a completely different
world as well for how people view.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
