Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift tied the knot, so Covino & Rich sort the least annoying wedding storylines from the noise: the hyphenated Kelce-Swift jersey that would break sales records, Adam Sandler officiating and singing an original song, the grifter selling "wedding trash" outside Madison Square Garden, and the guest who deleted his invite thinking it was spam. Then the guys turn to the All-Star break with the new Home Run Derby rules, the confirmed participants, and a full slate of Covino & Rich Mid-Season Awards, including "The Milk Was a Bad Choice" Award for Juan Soto and the Mets. Plus, this week's Might Be Ass verdict: LeBron James and the grey beard giving off way too many grandpa vibes as his free agency narrows to four teams. An uncensored weekly bonus pod from the Covino & Rich Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Yeah, goal.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Welcome to our bonus pot over promised Episode one, Cavino
and Rich from Fox Sports Radio Monday through Friday, five
to seven on the East, two to four on the West.
That's where I'm at out here on the West, say
Rich Davis. Hop along, Dicky, he's still in Texas.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
What's up? Rich? What's up?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
But we got a lot to get to on the
show today. All Star Week in Major League Baseball next week.
We got some new rules, I got some awards. I
want to give out some embarrassing awards for this season
of Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
And who might be ass It might be someone's facial hair.
We'll explain, but we'll kick it off with something, Rich.
I don't say this to be cool or sound like
I'm the only guy and I'm the different one. But
I really didn't know that Travis and Taylor's wedding was
this past weekend, and.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Just bullshit, there's no way you live on Earth and
didn't know that Square Garden was getting shut down.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Like, oh, I know all that.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
We talk about it all the time to exhaustion sometimes
on Fox Sports Radio. I understand it's the biggest deal
on the biggest invite in they're two superstars. I know
the whole story of romance, but when I was seeing
all the highlights and footage, I thought it was for
like a walk through. I feel like it just snuck
up on me. I'm like, oh, so it's happening, And

(01:27):
then when I heard some of the storylines, I was like, oh,
it's now, oh okay, because I don't know. It just
sort of happened so fast out of nowhere to me.
But look, congrats to both of them. But there are
some takeaways. One big story right now, Rich is the hypothetical.
It's kind of a joke but not really. It's the
unveiling of Kelsey's new potential jersey for this upcoming season.

(01:51):
I love this and if you haven't seen it, it's
the Kelsey hyphenated swift number eighty seven Chiefs Jersey. So
they're saying this is his jersey waiting for him in
the Chief locker room, and it's like, ha, that's.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Funny, and I think it's funny.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
I have my thoughts on it, But then when you
think about the reality, you see the feedback on that
tweet right there, you think it's funny, But if he
did this, it would be record breaking in sales, and
money's the bottom line here. And when they just do
this expensive wedding, you never know what sort of residual
kickback he could get if he were to do that.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
And I really do believe, even though.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
It's a joke and I'm not with this idea, there
would be a lot of money to be made if
they did that.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Well, I need money for already a couple that are billionaires.
I don't think they need the money. I think of
anything just to troll the world, to troll every guy
out there. If I'm Travis Kelce, I tell everyone I'm
now Travis Kelsey, Swift or Swift Kelsey, just to fuck
with everyone. I think, guys, what are you took her name?
I think as a ultimate troll move, him and his

(02:53):
brother on their podcast should should make the announcement that
he is taking her name just to f with everyone.
I think it would be the old matrol job of
twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
People would buy into it. It would go viral.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
If they want to keep their names in social media
and in the papers, in the news.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
They don't, their names are already there. I think it's
the ultimate way of them to troll all the people
that are obsessed with them, like you'll.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
No, people would lose their mind because there's always the
demographic two that hates any sight or sound of Taylor
Swift in their NFL.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
So people would lose it.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
But my thoughts on this, I mean, you can say
they're old school and sexist or whatever, but you know,
it does seem that tradition always benefits the woman when
it comes to this stuff, right, So you know when
a guy has one little thing of keeping his name,
and I think you got to hold onto that. I'm
not a fan of this, however, very hypocritical. I do
believe that I want my daughter to keep her name

(03:45):
if she were to ever get married and hyphenate it.
So I believe in the hyphenation, just not in this scenario.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
So for well, yes, a guy taking a girl's hyphene yes,
but you expect some dude that marries your daughter to
be okay with her being Covino hyphenated.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
He doesn't have to be, But yeah, I would prefer
her to do that to keep my name and spirit alive.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yeah, I only have one daughter.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
You can't be talking out of both sides of your
mouth like that.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
You can't say, I can't.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
I'm working hard to make that name, you know, a
reasonable choice. Yeah, I think it's a proud and awesome name.
So yeah, very hypocritical, I get it. But for a
guy to do that is such.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
A weenie move, and he really would be destroyed if
he want. You want your daughter to marry WEENI is
what you're saying. No, I'm not expecting the guy to
take the name. I'm just expecting my kid to keep
hers with the hyphen you know. But for Kelsey to
actually do this, man, he would be destroyed. In the

(04:45):
NFL like to use the Swift name, however, I do
believe it would sell billions of jerseys. Now, you may
find the whole thing annoying, guys, but that's why we
put a list together, and it was the least annoying
storylines from their big wedding this past weekend. Yeah, dude,
I mean listen, you could say Taylor Swift, who gives

(05:06):
a shit? But there are funny storylines and some cool
little things that go along with this wedding. I mean,
we've talked about this couple for the last couple of years.
It's not over the NFL.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
You may have missed it between the holiday weekend, traveling
world cup fever. Dude, not everyone's so zoned in on
their romance, I promise you.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
All right, Well, do you think people don't realize that
the coolest part is that they got the real wedding singer?
Adam Sandler not only officiated their wedding, Oh yes, oh
by the shanman himself made up a song a la
Robbie Hart, I want to grow old with you. He
made his own song and performed at for Travison Taylor.
So you could hate this couple, you could hate celebrity,

(05:45):
But how fucking cool is that that Adam Sandler makes
up a song for your wedding? I got one thing
to say about that Travison Taylor got married? Whoop me? Dude?
All right about this?

Speaker 3 (05:55):
How about this?

Speaker 1 (05:57):
There's so many fans. You can make fun of them
all you want, and I will. That trash? What is
the old expression, One man's trash is another man's treasure.
There are people capitalizing on this and literally selling trash
from their wedding. Have you seen this clip.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Float around social media? I have. It's kind of pathetic.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
I wanted to come out and do the New York
city garbage not invited. Addition, obviously drunks for the occasion.
I know a lot of people wanted to be here
today to support their girl teen Swift. I couldn't be here,
So I'm picking up garbage around Master Square Garden as
close as you would have gotten, so you can be
here in spirit and carry around a piece at their
wedding day in your pocket wherever you go.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
The dude is selling trash and people are buying it
because they think it's somehow connected to their wedding. So
if you don't think people are fanatics in a weird.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Way, they are their maniacs and rich. I'm hearing whispers murmurs.
I'm hearing stories about people just now discovering that they
were actually invited, but they thought it was spam and
they ignored it or needed the email.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
We joked yesterday about how Charles Barkley and certain celebrities like, yeah,
just I'm busy, I want to go golfing. I got
other things to do. Barkley said he doesn't do weddings
or funerals. I appreciated it, but no good. Well, there's
there's a record producer that lives in Los Angeles, that
Taylor has worked with. His name is Garrett. He got
a text from Taylor Swift's manager. He thought it was

(07:27):
spam and turns out it wasn't. He deleted the invite
and apparently now his wife's like, are you kidding me?
We could have went to this wedding in New York
and he admits that he failed. He thought it was
just who's who's spamming me? Oh this is not real, dude,
I admit. When all of these stories are so eye roll.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
These you're funny, dude. These are funny.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
One is wild, though, because you can imagine how devastated
and pissed off his wife is that he missed this
opportunity because, regardless if you care or not, the hottest
ticket in town by far so. Can you imagine that
the sinking feeling your gut when you realize that you
could have went to me.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
People that hate this so much, I think they just
hate love. I don't expect you to love Taylor Swift
or Travis Kelsey, but I think the stories coming out
of it are funny. Greg Olsen, who we both agree
is one of the best commentators in football tight end
University legend Greg Olsen.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
You mean the legendary college rapper Greg Olsen. Yeah, rapper
Greg Olsen.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
He was wearing like some type of melty hat to
the wedding and he tells a funny story. I thought
this was great. He's walking out of the bathroom and
he's like, this just shows you how the wedding was.
He goes, some guy turns and goes, hey, great hat.
That guy was Tom Cruise. And he's like, I'm freaking
talking to Tom Cruiser for five minutes about my hat.
He goes, it was a weird experience. Everything about it.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I'm sure there's people that are envious of it. I
heard it was amazing from everything I read. But when
I say I didn't know was this past weekend, I
truly mean that, like I didn't want to give it away.
But the first inkling of our first realization.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Of oh it's now is when the Adam Sandler story broke, like, oh.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
He officiated the wedding. Oh, and now pronounce you man
and wife. Congratulations.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
So hey, these are the least annoying stories to come
out of well their weekend, but congratulations. We wish him
the best and I can't wait to see if he
rocks that hyphenated jersey.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
I want to see what happens with them.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
It was such a special occasion. Apparently Sandler didn't wear
huge gym shorts. He actually got here to keep up
the pants on from what I understand. So now, listen,
we are less than a week away now from All
Star Week. I'm bummed that, you know, we're not doing
it this year in Philadelphia. You know, we try to
be a bushwhacker. I'll still be there in spirit. We
try to go to the derby every year. We try

(09:39):
to go to the All Star Game. It's like a
you know, an annual thing that I feel like is
a good indicator of Like, Yo, we're midway there, Summer's
midway there, Baseball's midway there. And there are new rules
for the Home Run Derby, and I think Major League Baseball,
like so many things they do, they fucking nailed it. Dude.
I really love these new rules. If you want to
go over some.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Of these new rules.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Okay, So the Home Run Derby is Monday, July thirteenth.
There's eight participants, only five as of now. As of
when we're doing over promised here, only five players are confirmed.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
I'm gonna go over them, But the new rules are
pretty simple.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
They're basically ditching the clock, so there's no rushy sort
of feeling to get this done. First round twenty swings,
Second round fifteen swings, Championship Round fifteen swings. You know
I'll go over one by one. So there's eight players
in round one. The top four advanced to round two.
See see why it starts in round two. Number one
versus number four, number two versus number three.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
What I love about that is in the past, if
you got, you know, locked up against someone that just
had a great first round, even if you had an
amazing first round, you were out like you could be
the second or third best. But if you were matched
up against someone I love this that way. It's like
top four advance. If you hit four the eight best,
you're in. I love that.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
And as I mentioned before, twenty swings in round one,
fifteen swings in rounds two and three, and players who
homer on their last swing will continue hitting until they
make it out.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
What I have a question without I'm not trying to
put you on the spot, but of the people in
this which you're gonna go over twenty swings, it's different
when there's a clock because I don't really remember how
many swings they got, because you could go to a
different pace twenty swings. What would be fair to you?
Is someone going to hit ten? Yeah, I'd say this
team pretty fair. Yeah, But it depends how the pressure

(11:27):
gets to him.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
It affects people differently, right, who's streaking, who's not, tie breakers,
home run distance in round one, three swings, swing off
in rounds two and three.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
This is great.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
So yeah, there's new rules, more to be excited about,
because as we've said, uh, year after year we've gone
to many of these. It might be the grading sport,
the greatest sports exhibition I think, or event of all time.
Now here are the five participants as of now. Junior
Caminero of the Rays. He has twenty six dongs.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
He was in it last year, a great slugger, So
I'm down with that, okay.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Ben Aros of the New York Nights, I love it.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
He's gonna get so cold after this for you.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Perfect And you know what, I cringe for two reasons
when I hear my guy Ben Rice is there. He's
a young player, he's got twenty six home runs right now,
Benny Barrels, Ben Rice I think of two things. I
think a jazz chishm stinking it up last year. Yeah right,
that's like the embarrassment that's involved here.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
And I always think of Bobby a Bray.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
You like the classic story of Philly Bobby Abray you
at the time, I believe he was a Philly. You know,
he's in the Derby and his swing was never the
same again, he ruined his swing and happened to David.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Wright one year too. Where there's certain players that they're
second half. Their power numbers go way down, and it's
easy to blame it on the derby. So Ben Rice
when when he stinks it up, you can blame. You
can blame the.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Old scarpe dude. Jack cagleon.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Of the Royals has fourteen home runs as we speak,
Wilson Contreras of the Red Sox has twenty bombs, and
Jordan Walker of the Saint Louis Cardinals has twenty one.
So five players confirm. Now a lot of these younger
cats do take this as an honor. It's major bragging rights.
It's a fun, fun event and new rules for more

(13:11):
reason to tune in.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
I'm excited me. Soto said that he might be open
to it.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
I don't know. If he closed the book, he goes,
I'm thinking about it. Well, that would be the star
power to push it to the next leg. Guess no offense.
As of right now, there's not enough star power in
that derby. If he ask me, no, I agree. I agree.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
So if a Soto got involved, oh man, that just
makes the stakes higher. And I wish them all well
because it is embarrassing when you don't deliver. But I
think it's always a fun time, not only to watch,
but to actually go. So if you're not making it
this year, definitely try next year.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Yeah, Philadelphia a home run hitters Park. If you've been there,
it's great. But sometimes at night, thin air, people are
gonna be hitting bombs. It's gonna be a great Derby
based on the fact also that it's in Philadelphia. So
I can't wait for that now, Cavino. If it's cool
with you, I've come up with our Coveno Reritch mid
season Awards. I have three awards I want to give out.
If that's cool with you.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Do you mean like because this a mid season so far,
and there's barely any teams over five hundred, like so.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Many teams that are floating around like eh that I
have three mid season awards that I want to give out.
The first award is the YO, what the fuck are
you doing? Awards? Part of my language, the WTF award.
Okay goes to Los Angeles Dodger Dalton rushing, What the
f you doing picking fights with sho hey Otani. This

(14:32):
dude needs to control his emotions, it seems, because it
seems to be one story like this after another. Yeah,
this young player, good young player, but he definitely gets
the what the effort you doing?

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Award because if you're.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
On a championship caliber team that's looking to three peat
and it looks like that's likely a possibility, you can't
play yourself out of that by arguing with the best
player in Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
The coolest part of that particular story, too, because he's
done a few things yeah, is when Freddie Freeman aside
immediately and he's like, yo, dude, you don't like.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Talk back to show Haye, it's our guy. It's a
bad look. Just you don't know your place, know your role. Yeah. Now,
award number two I want to give out. Now, this
is something you used to do all the time before
you got the new iPhone that holds a better charge. Yeah,
Covino is always the guy that forgot is chargers. So
I'm gonna give the Cavino Yo, I forgot my charger award.

(15:23):
Okay to Fernando Tattists Junior because this guy lost his power, Dude,
he lost his power. Good five home runs, thirty five
RBI for a guy that's a slugger on the annual. Now,
a close runner up was Vladdie Guerrero Junior, who also
has five home runs. We're talking about two of the

(15:43):
best just not finding their power. Expect a big second
half from Fernando Tattists Junior, but as of right now,
on pace for less than ten home runs based on
at bats.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
I mean, he's got to remember who he is for sure.
You're making me think of some other awards as we
go here. What's your third and final award as we
approach the All Star break?

Speaker 1 (16:03):
My third award in honor of today being the anniversary
twenty two years ago we all watched Anchorman at theaters,
Remember Anchorman. Courron Burgundy. This is the Milk was a
bad choice, but I'm called it the metro bad choice.
Juan Soto gets the Milk was a bad choice award.
He's got twenty home runs, fifty ribis, he's batting around

(16:25):
three hundred, and he's got to be thinking, what did
I do? Why did I choose the Mets over the Yankees,
over the Red Sox, over the Dodgers, over the Cardinals? Anyone?

Speaker 3 (16:35):
The fact that money for that extra few million dollars, man, no.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
But the Mets at that time seemed like they had
a good culture. And now in this team, when the
fans are cheering Pete Alonzo, Brandon Nemo and they're cheering
for all the players they lost, it is not good.
It's the most embarrassing Mets season ever. And he's having
an MVP type year.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
Yeah, you know, I actually give him a lot of
credit for that though.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
He's rising above the stinker ru of a season the
Mets are having, and he's still putting up good numbers,
but like unimportant, unimpactful numbers, they're still finding ways to lose.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
I mean, you remember watching him as a Yankee and
a National on every team he was on. You know,
when he would have just a great at that where
he would he would somehow walk his on base percentage
and ops is still number one or two in the league.
He's leading all these categories. Could be no, but he's
walking just to have like a guy like Boba Schett
ground into a double play. So it's like it doesn't

(17:33):
even matter.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Well, I'm gonna give two more awards away leading into
our next discussion too. Okay, as far as mid season awards,
can we just admit once and for all the Anthony
Volpi's just mid, So he gets the award for being
just just mid, just mid, because I mean, so much
hype around as dude, We're four seasons in and he
just brings the vibe down.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
You mean, the guy that was supposed to be the
best Yankee shortstop since Jeter.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Dude, and since his return at short the Yankees are
stinking like Abe Lincoln, the like Caballero, play or make
a move. I don't know, do something because maybe there's
just too much pressure on this guy. I believe he'll
be great, maybe somewhere else. But as far as like awards,
I'm gonna give it just an ass award out, Like
as we head into John Carlos Stanton oh oh el,

(18:20):
I'm sorry, no, not great ass Yankees catcher Austin Wells.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Get this, He's gonna be gone right after the break.
He's batting in today's major leagues one forty eight with
four home runs and last I checked ten rbi one
forty eight, So he gets to here's the ass Award.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
You're just straight ass.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
That's crazy.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Honestly, it drives me bonkers, dude, that the Yankees aren't
getting a and they have to get a right handed
hitting catcher to replace him.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
It's just ruining the squad man.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
It's so crazy that both your awards have to do
with a Yankee. I couldn't have seen that guy. Yeah, yeah,
I mean, I'm rocking their hat right now. But I mean,
it's it's wild how this. You know twenty nine other teams,
but both your awards have to do with the Yankees.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Yeah? Could I absolutely?

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Can I add one? Can I add one? Then one
more to make it not Yankee centric?

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Could I give the Nerds Ruined Baseball Award to the Marlins?
The Mighty Marlins Nerds Run Baseball Award goes to the
Marlins for pulling Yuri Perez after a seven inning perfect
game just to have the not only the perfect game,
but a no hitter and a shutout ruins within three pitches.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Is your seven innings perfect game?

Speaker 1 (19:29):
You pull the guy.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Bunch of nerd Award. Here you go, a bunch of nerds.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
They got the Nerds Room Baseball Award.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
All right.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
Now, this brings us to the actual segment of might
be ass a list in a segment you never want
to be part of. It actually has to do with
the facial hair of someone in particular, and we'll explain why.
All right, might be asked this week goes to a
guy that the world can't stop talking about Lebron James,
but not necessarily him.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
His recent footage of his beard it it's not a
good look. I'm sorry, is it the uncle Phil?

Speaker 3 (20:03):
What's he going for?

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Yo? That's as that the kids say, he's given way
too many unk vibes. And listen, if you're trying to
end the career one final season and you want to contribute,
no play for mister Greg gets him just form men.
Maybe he's waiting for that big commercial where it's like
Lebron is endorsing some new hair dye. He looks handsome, guy,
the beard man. He looks handsome, but not for a

(20:27):
guy that's trying to still play in a young man's league,
in a young man's games. Or is it more impressive
that he's so good and he's that old.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
No, I don't like it.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
I mean that goes with a stat that Hous got
on viral this week. Lebron James, to put it in perspective,
has played with a guy born in nineteen sixty two
Kevin Willis, and a guy born in two thousand and six.
That's the longevity of his career, Cooper Flag. Right, So
he's played with some old school cats from back in
the day and some youngins right now.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
He's been doing it for a long time.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
What happens, by the way, a month into the aufice,
speaking of the anniversary of Anchorman, remember when Will Ferrell
when Ron Bergundy loses his job, and like after a month,
he's all disheveled. One month into the offseason, he just stops.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
He stopped dying it, I imagine, But I think he
needs to continue. You may say, dude, stop being superficial
or whatever, but it just adds to the grandpa vibes
in the NBA. What team wants to be pumped about
Grandpa getting in at the game. And I know he
doesn't play like Grandpa, but he looks like Grandpapa with
that beard. And the latest again rumor is according to

(21:32):
Windhurst Windhorst, it goes down to four teams now seventy
six ers, the Warriors, the Heat, and the homecoming.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Back to the Calves.

Speaker 2 (21:41):

Speaker 3 (21:53):
And I'm telling you, anytime he looks.

Speaker 1 (21:56):

Speaker 3 (22:01):

that said, have a great Thursday. That was real fun.

(22:24):
Over Promised. Have you missed anything on the show this week?
We've had some good ones. We filed in for DP

next time rived.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
