Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. So it wouldn't be
in April in the world of sports without a bunch
of rumors regarding the NFL Draft. And we have got
just the man for you that can address all of
these rumors. And we'll get to that here coming up,
just a couple of moments from now. I am Jonas Knox.
He is Bucky Brooks. This is Fox Sports Radio. You
(00:22):
can hang out with us on the I Heart Radio app.
You can find us on hundreds of Fox Sports Radio affiliates,
and wherever you are taking part in this program, we
appreciate you doing so. We're gonna take you all the
way up until eight pm Eastern time, five o'clock Pacific,
right here on Fox Sports Radio. And ladies and gentlemen,
this is a man. I have a good feeling that
(00:44):
he has got good news for me. He is the
pride of Fox Sports Radio, the NFL Network, Granada Hills
High Uh, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, North Carolina tar Heels,
you name it. This is his time here. Let me
step aside and let you all welcome in with your ears,
(01:05):
the great and powerful Bucky f In Brooks, My man
my man, my man, what's going on? What's happened to
jonas Well? Let's get things started here, Bucky, because I
have a good feeling that you have got some good
news for me on the Granada Hills. So where do
we stand here? Where do we stand you? Being the
(01:27):
head coach of the powerhouse Granada Hills High School football team. Okay,
I hate to say this right like, but I will.
I will say this that I did um briefly mentioned
um there if we continue to do what we're doing
to the team, I told him, there may be lobster
match potatoes for everybody. You know what I'm saying that
we want step closer. So last night we had a
(01:48):
big opportunity planning in the l A City section. We
we won a game against a league rival. Who is
it Cleveland? Was that the school? Yeah, so we had
a chance to run the ball and do do some
stuff or whatever. Had a really good game, very competitive
game or whatever. But I guys hung in there, so
we were able to get a win. And so, um,
you know, like unfortunately right now, like you can have
(02:11):
fans in the stands, but you can't have necessarily people
in the press box. But have you ever seen Iowa play.
You've seen I would play like when you do the
thing like you know when they look up and they point,
they point like to the to the hospital and they wave.
So somehow like I don't know what my guys are doing,
but like they always kind of point to the press
box and they wave. And so after the gay I
(02:32):
was like waving at They're like, coach, isn't that guy
that talks about your team on the radio, Like is
he in the press box? I was like, yeah, hey guys, hey,
hey keep it classy. But yeah, so so if you're
having to kids the thing, you always see it right
in the they point, they wave and it's yeah, it's fun.
(02:54):
And I saw that they were wearing T shirts that
had the image of a gas GID but it was
crossed out. It was like exed out, you know, like
the old n w O belt back in the day
where they you know, like and I don't again, I
don't know why they continue to want to attack David Gascon.
Oh that's right, because Dave Gascon has been attacking Grana
Hills High School football here for for a couple of
(03:14):
years now Here on Fox Sports Radio, Dave Dave this
is what you created a right, you created this monster. Okay,
Dave Gascon and he has stormed out of the studio.
He's now across the street of Guillermo Subs or whatever
it's called. He's picking up a sandwich because he cannot
take the heat right now because Granada Hills is on fire. Now.
Was that the first game of the year for you guys, Yeah,
his first game before game season, So there's a lot
(03:37):
of fun. More importantly, like like, look, the game is
the game. It's been exciting to watch, Like all these
high school teams launch. I look, TiO, TiO is trying
to make a trying to make a statement that was
an oak, like, yeah, they wanted a couple of games. Coaches,
you want a really good job. Like man, I'm like, okay,
but now it's been really great to watch all these
guys go because after they set out for like a
(03:59):
year and some chain is like not being able to
get with their friends or whatever, it has been fun
to watch them, you know, win, lose a draw. I
think they're just excited to get on the field and
be with your teammates. Okay, let me ask you this
because we know this has been a discussion point in
the NFL to where you and we've talked about this
where the NFL p A is now telling guys don't
show up to these in person meetings and all this stuff.
And we have found, like we found in a lot
(04:19):
of sports, maybe some things weren't as necessary as previously
thought they were based on, you know, the the performances
of the players when they get on the field. And
what I'm talking about is the practice time. Have you
found that your guys are more prepared than you thought
they would be with this constricted, trapped practice time or
(04:40):
or do you think we're going to go back to
the old days and it's gonna be hell weeks and
two days and all the other stuff that came along
with it. I think there are things that you can
take from that we learned from the pandemic to make
you great. Like so for instance, today, like normally what
we would do is on a Saturday, everyone would pick
up and meet at the school. We were trying to
watch the film as a group. Then we would live ways. Well,
now in this area what we do is like hey,
(05:01):
pop on the zoom at nine o'clock, we watched the tape.
We'll get a workout in and we'll be done. So
no one has to be necessarily have their routine interrupted.
They can do it all from the house. Um. Practice
routine and stuff has been a little different, um, you know,
and it also depends on like the coaches and what
you believe in. But we've kind of been slower when
it comes to initiating contact and how we go about it.
(05:24):
But there are things that can be done. I will say,
like the league, the National Football League is a little
different because football is a developmental game. You only get
better at football by playing football and doing those things.
That said, what happens and why the players get upset
is like coaches are innately competitive, and so when they
get their hands on their team, they want to go
(05:44):
a hundred miles an hour and kind of beat on people.
They want they they've spent all this time and the
office is drawn up these plays and stuff like that.
They want to see it. And so the practices in
the off season can escalate and become very very intense.
And so I think there has to be kind of
like a fine line where a happy meeting where you
can meet like, hey, we wanted to players in the building,
(06:06):
so we want to do some skilled development stuff. Maybe
it's just all individual work right where you're working in
with your respective position, but maybe you don't get together
as a team or whatever. Um. But I do think
there's some validity to the players talking about, hey, this
is a lot when it comes to just the amount
of reps that we're doing and in the taxing part
on your legs and the injuries that occur, because there
(06:27):
are injuries that happen in these offseason workouts in camps,
and you just you're trying to preserve the players. And
we saw last year, like the stats said, fewer miss tackles,
fewer miss games, injuries were down, and so there may
be something to the rest and recovery getting guys there,
but it has to be negotiated well. And here's the thing,
(06:47):
and you know this from watching M M A. They'll
talk about fighters who they'll deal with issues after their career,
all these issues because of all the wars they've been through,
and not so much the wars that they've been through
when they're inside a cage, but the wars they've been
through in practice, to where for the longest time that
you would just assume the way that you get better
is by is by fighting, and you would get to practice,
(07:10):
and these guys would have these wars. There. There's this
old legendary academy in Brazil, Vandalis Silva Marizo shogun Hua,
and it was called the Shooter Box Academy, and they
were legendary for as they were getting ready for fights,
they would have all out brawls in practice because that's
all they knew. They just thought, the more physical we are,
(07:32):
the more callous we're going to be, without really thinking
of well, yeah, but that could also take away from
our performance inside the cage. So by the time they
would show up to the cage, they were in a
diminished a diminished capacity just based on what they went through.
And I wonder if football is finding out. You know what, man,
maybe it's not the best thing in the world, because
a lot of m m A fighters at Max Holloway,
(07:54):
we can both agree one of the great fighters on
the planet. He doesn't spar anymore in training, no more sparring.
He gets ready, he gets physically fit, he does his
cardio all that stuff. But he says, man, I know
how to fight. I know what I'm doing when I
get in there. I don't need to take an unnecessary
beating in practice in order to get to the to
the actual fight, which is the most important thing. And
(08:15):
I think there's this barbaric sense of the more you grind,
the more you work, the better off you're gonna be.
And I think we're having to work smarter now is
supposed to harder like we did back in the old days.
There's truth to that, jonas Um I would saying, and
I look, I certainly don't know everything, but and watching
or seeing what people are doing. So Buddy Tevens at
(08:35):
Dartmouth is one who they don't practice. They don't tackle
in practice, they don't tackle each other in practice. They
tackle bags and dummies and those things. Like they've done
it successful for a while. They want ivy the championships
with that approach. Um. When you hear people talk about
the old San Francisco forty nine is with Bill Walsh
and how those guys didn't put the pads on all
the time like they would they would practicing shorts and
(08:58):
jerseys and oh for the long, like the Niners are
a we're gonna get to the game fresh and ready
to go. Our tempo is going to be fast, but
we're not going to beat each other up, um, and
we're gonna focus on that. And I've seen that way work.
I've also been in Kansas City where Man three our
practices on the Marty Shot. Now, I mean, we're gonna
(09:19):
smash and whatever, and we're gonna feel like we're superheroes
when we step into the stadium. Multiple various approaches can work.
But I do think now science will tell you when
you use the GPS stuff or whatever, that less is
more when it comes to it. Um, not as much contact,
more skill work. Teach them how to play, but you
don't necessarily have to beat them up and they still
(09:40):
can have success. And so there's a way to do it.
It is just challenging yourself to be able to think
differently than maybe you were reared. He is Bucky Brooks.
I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio. Is the
Master still Are we still got a weather delay? Is
that still happening? So they're they're showing the reruns of
some masters tournament from a couple of years ago. I'm
(10:00):
assuming the tiger Woods tournament that he want a couple
of years ago, because the last Master's tournament took place
like an hour and a half ago. Why would you
why would you re air that one that took place
and not that long ago. But we do have a
weather delay there at Augusta. And I know you're a
big you know you and Ben Mallard the golf aficionados
here at Fox Sports Radio, Bucket Brooks. I mean, I
like to fancy myself as a as an a level golfer.
(10:22):
I think I think that I can hold my own.
I just want to. I want to go to one Masters,
that's all. Like somebody hit up Steve Spurrier. Steve Spurrier's
got I think he's a member at Augusta National. Like
somebody hit him up and say, hey man, well you're
not going to use these this year. You're out on
a yacht somewhere. I know what you want. You really
are just pining for that pimento cheese sandwich that everyone
(10:42):
talks about. Well, they have the old throwback menu to
where they like everything is reduced prices and all that.
And you know, I'm right guy, I'm like that. Like
there's something to like being old school, keeping it simple,
not being very complex, just being great at what it
is that you do. It's like when you find those
old burger stands that don't have the prices written up.
(11:05):
They've got like the blue letters inside the chalkboard to
make the menu, and they're not all evenly aligned like
the old school menus when it says cheeseburger three five
or whatever it is, and they've got the like the
old block lettering. That's when I think of when I
think of vintage. But again, I'm a vintage guy, all right.
I'm a little bit of a throwback. I'm older than us.
You know, you're you're not really used to this, Bucky,
(11:27):
you and your leader, you're not used to this stuff.
But but the way we go here on Fox Sports Radio,
all right. Coming up next though, Here on fs ARE,
He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox. There is a rumor
at the top of the draft. We will find out
where the hell this rumor started. And if Bucky thinks
this is actually gonna happen, or we've got a smoke
screen on our hands. That's next year. On fs ARE,
(11:49):
He's Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio.
You can hang out with us on the I Heart
Radio app. You can find us on hundreds of Fox
Sports Radio affiliates and wherever you are, thanks for making
us a part of your Saturday here on fs ARE.
Coming up here in a little over ten minutes from
now on Fox Sports Radio, I have identified the most
protected man in the NFL. I've never seen anything like it.
(12:12):
We will get Bucky's thoughts on it. That's coming up
in about ten minutes from now here on fs R
plus you know, bottom of the hour here again just
a few minutes from now, we will get a response
i'm sure from David Gascon who Bucky took a blowtorch
too to open out the show here on fs ARE.
So we'll wait to see how that plays out. Just saying, mane,
(12:32):
I'm not trying to stir the pot here. I'm just saying,
you know, I'm just saying that there could be some
issues here based on Dave's trash talk of the powerhouse
Granada Hills High team. Who's now want to know after
a big one over Cleveland last night? So I did,
I did my research. I knew who you guys were playing,
all right. Just just want to do it to make
sure some of the coverage out here in Southern California
is a little bit hit or miss when it comes
(12:53):
to high school football. So it's not like the South.
It's not like Texas or some other places in the South.
All Right, I gotta ask you this. A couple of
weeks ago, we were on the air together and it
was right after the trade was made and the forty
Niners moved up to the third pick, and you and
I were confused because there were some people that were
(13:13):
throwing out the idea that was gonna be Mac Jones
who was going to be the quarterback. And I think
we were both like, well, where's this coming from. This
has got to be just them people throwing out rumors,
throwing out a name whatever, etcetera, etcetera. We see this
all the time, and now we are here a couple
of weeks later, and it looks like Mac Jones is
(13:34):
going to be the guy. Bucky Brooks that that they
have identified Mac Jones as being their quarterback. You know,
more power to them if that's the guy that San
Francisco is going with. But they're trying to dismiss it
all day want. But it's seemingly everybody who's in the
quote unquote no or people that cover the NFL are
all saying this is legit, this is real. Mac Jones
(13:54):
is the guy. How the hell do we get here?
I mean, I don't know how we got here, but
I would say this, that's think some of it is
connecting the dots, right, it's trying to when we're in
this part of the year. It all it takes is
one person to say, hey, it kind of makes sense,
and then everyone falls um in line. Because remember a
lot of what we're seeing right now are mock drafts
(14:15):
and those things, which are really entertainment for the fans,
and they're great clickbait. But I don't know, like everyone
takes a different approach when they're dealing with the mock draft.
The Mac Jones love stems from the fact that Kyle
Shanahan has had success with I would say comparable talents.
Uh Kirk Cousins Um. We saw him play well. He
(14:36):
was with the Texans when they had Matt schob Um,
I would say, a better player. But Matt Ryan became
a m VP and his watch. We've seen the work
he's done with Jimmy Garoppolo, but also Nick Mullas and c. J.
Bethat And so everyone is saying, like, oh, he's done this.
Mac Jones is kind of the one one of these
things is not like the other in this quarterback class,
and they're like, oh man, he fits his wheelhouse. This
(14:56):
is what he wants. I would say, Remember, regardless of
how that relationship ended, he did have r G three
and Washington as his quarterback who was different. He also
sat on the sideline when he has Jimmy Garoffalo and
he has called the perfect game maybe from a play
calling standpoint, and then he looks on the other side
(15:17):
and that guy Pat Mahomes is over here pulling rabbits
out of hats on critical downs and make it happen.
So for me, I just think, if you're going to
do the mac Jones thing, man, you don't give up
everything for that guy, because you certainly feel like, I mean,
they're more guys like mac Jones than the Justin Fields thing.
(15:40):
And that's not a knock the mac Jones what they
accomplished the college. But let's be honest, he doesn't have
an a level arm uh. He only played seventeen games,
same number as Trey lance Um. He wasn't really on
the radar hitting into the season. So I mean we're
talking about one year of real production, and yet we're
talking about him being the most quote unquote pro ready
(16:01):
I think is what someone termed what does he do well?
Like if you had to say, all right, Mac Jones's
best attribute is what pass first point guard he is,
um John Stockton. He gets it out to the playmakers.
He lets the playmakers go to work, and they are fantastic.
Last year of his passing yards fifty three and a
(16:24):
half per cent. We'll run after catch. Yeah, get the
ball to the playmakers, Let the playmakers go to work.
His best weapon is his mind, his decisiveness, his ability
to get it out. Athletically he's okay, um, but his
(16:45):
mind his processing speed so doesn't hold onto the ball
along So similar to what Roethlisberger was doing last year.
Now for two different reasons. He had no offensive line
and there were issues there. But gets rid of the
ball quick and can decipher where to go with the
football and make a quick decision and and not put
himself in any in any under any pressure to force
him to take Potentially, I would say he does a
(17:07):
great job of letting his playmakers make plays. His job
is my job. We're on a relay team. My job
is a hand baton and let you go win it,
and he does that better than anybody. He also can't
throw with touch, timing and anticipation, all those things that
we talked about. He can do that, but range wise
he may not have the same range as some of
these elite at like in terms of I'm gonna throw
it out the stadium. He doesn't have that kind of
(17:29):
arm talent. But he's certainly good enough to play. Is
he better than Garoppolo? I mean, I think it's like
a push. Garoppolo is never available though I know and
I guess that that's That's really where this comes down to.
Is if it if it's all about availability with Garoppolo
and his durability is the main concern, then then you
can understand why they would take the quarterback. I just
(17:50):
are you completely sold that Mac Jones is the guy?
Because all the rumors are saying, all right, he's gonna
it's gonna be Mac Jones. They love him that you know,
he's he's the perfect fit all of and and then
I'll see some people say, nah, but do you know,
don't be so you know, Kyle Shannon thinks differently. John
Lynch things differently, Maybe there's somebody else that that that's
a potential fit. It just the mac Jones buzz. It
(18:12):
feels like more than just a smoke screen, and there's
legitimate interest and if he's there, that they're going to
take him number three, well, I mean, I think there
may be some legitimate interest, but I don't. I wouldn't
dismiss them knowing that the highest date was coming, you know,
the higher state protests coming, and so justin fields and
seeing being able to see that and being able to
have a one on one with him and see what
he looks like, if they have some input in the
(18:34):
workout in those things. So I do think Look, typically
where they're smoke, there is fire, and so there's certain
some some love somewhere in that building for mac Jones.
I'm still in that one percent convinced he is going
to be the guy whose name is revealed when the
when the tag is boled. Yeah, I listen. I want
nothing more than it for to not be mac Jones,
(18:56):
because I think it would be more interesting if they
were to go. First of all, if they were non quarterback.
All right, that's that's the move, all right. You want
to you want to throw everybody for a loop, or
similar to what the Bears did when they moved up
a spot to take Trabisky. You want to throw everybody
for a loop? What do they take Pitts at number three?
Al Right? Like if they took Pits at number three
with the idea of all right, we've got him and
(19:18):
and George Kittle, which is a dynamic duo at tight end,
there's a lot we can do with those guys. Why
don't we roll with Karoppolo for a year? And who knows,
maybe Aaron Rodgers comes available next offseason and maybe that's
the move they make. I mean, but but they gave
up so much, man, So it has to be a quarterback,
right Like, you don't give up that to move up
for a skill position player unless and I know you
(19:41):
talked about this on NFL dot com. You think Pits
is all that and and and he's potentially the best
player in the draft. I mean, he is all that.
He is a unique talent. And when you're taking the
guy this high up potentially as a tight end, he
has to be able to I mean, he has to
be a superhero. I mean he has to fly and
didn't run and jump it's all buildings in the thing
(20:02):
about all of those things. I will say this about
pitts Um he is in that Julio Jones, Mega Try
and Kelly ger in terms of like his size and
what he's able to do um as a play call
it man, he's just comface. Is just so fun to
think about what you could do. But everybody doesn't have
that capacity unlocked. The tight end he usual. Is he
(20:24):
a tight end or a receiver at the next level
or a combo of both. He's a combo. He's a jimbo.
He's I mean, he's no different than Um Kelsey and
Darren Waller and all those guys. They may be lined
up outside and they may have an eighties yeah, but
those dudes are really wild. Uh. He is Bucky Brooks.
I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can
hang out with us on the I Heart Radio app.
(20:45):
Coming up next there is We have identified the most
protected man in the entire NFL. You can't even argue this.
It's unbelievable the free pass this guy gets from many
people in the media. He is a quarterback. We'll get
to that next year on Fox Sports Radio. But for
all the latest from around the world of sports, and
a man who was called out to start the show
(21:06):
and he had nothing to say because he knew it
was true, and he was served a slice of humble pie.
And that man is none other the gas band David Gascon.
Gascon is coming up. How the hell did they know
that I've got gags? You know, I was thinking about
this before we came on the air today. I missed
(21:28):
you last week, Jonas, and um, you know I I was.
I was at your wedding. Um, you know I was
at your confirmation. You know when you came back from
from Charleston. I welcome you back with open arms and
unpacked in your new place and you did. Um. You know,
we've been through a lot the last fifty years, and
so for you to throw me under the truck and
(21:49):
under the bus like that first your show? First, do
people know that I was the one that helped you
unpack and get into that new mansion in Alan, Yeah,
the mansion in malb Yeah, four and a half bathrooms. Yeah,
I'm I'm closer to Zimbabwe than I am Malibu. Okay,
like not, They could not be further from the truth. Listen, Dave,
(22:11):
you've called out Granada Hills High Football, and you have
been their inspiration and you have been the reason they
have played at the high level they played at. Bucky
Brooks happens to be the coach. And so if Granada
Hills is beating Cleveland locally here in southern California in
a high school football game to open up their season
and they look up to the press box and they
give you the bird, I don't know what you want
(22:32):
me to do better? Yeah, just it's just just a
simple a simple way, this simple way, just like just
like it's just for the kids. It's just an uplift day.
There's there's times where in media we we kind of
confuse ourselves with accurate reporting as opposed to guys reading
box scores and more so, I think at the prep
level you get a lot of hacks that rate these
(22:53):
athletes as you like four or five stars or even
three stars. It's a scam. Yeah, they don't watch the games. Um.
But oddly enough, there was a there's a crafted r
p I for for Southern California football, and Cleveland High
School has an r p I of like four and twenty.
(23:13):
What was ours? It's not available exactly that that would
say you that we were decided. Were decided on it,
all right. Just for the record, Grenada Hills upcoming schedule
three teams with a combined record of one and six. Hey,
by the way, Buck, you're I don't know how you
schedule that, coach. Hold on a second, Bucky. You're a
run first offense. Correct. You guys run the ball, you
(23:34):
pound the rock. Yeah, last night we ran it. Um
let's see, one running back ran it thirty one time.
The other randing back ran it for times for seventy four.
I think we had a total of over four. And
you guys, you guys put up a thirty burger. Correct,
you put up thirty plus. So a run a run
(23:56):
first team that puts up thirty plus points is the
equivalent to a path first team putting up ninety. All right,
So I just want to point that out, Dave, So
be careful what you wish for, because you're dealing with
the Army, the Navy, the Georgia Tech of high school
football in southern California, and it is none other than
the Granada Hills Highlanders, you know. For the record, I'd
like everyone to acknowledge the fact that coach Brooks is
(24:18):
running up the score on his opponent. There was no
run up. I felt like the four yearline with like
two minutes though, But you were trying to run up
the score. I mean, weren't trying to just call him plays.
We just called him play. Sometimes somebody block somebody. Damn right,
coach were here your coach barrier, let's Dave. But look
at you gotta deal with sometimes you gotta take your
(24:38):
medicine in life. And and this is one of those
situations where you piste off the Granada Hills High school
football program and now you gotta deal with the repercussions.
That's how this thing works. Not a fan of it.
Look who's your Now, you've got games the next three weeks, correct, Bucky?
Next two weeks all right? And who do you got
next week? Tough game next week. Birmingham Defendings just been
(25:00):
in city champs. Yeah, they're pretty good, really good. Now
they're pretty good. One and two there, one and two yeah,
but two Southern Section teams there, those are excuses. It's fine.
Commino real on deck as well. And three yeah, well,
I mean only coach my team day, but you schedule
the opponents though. In the league. Come on, coach, what
(25:23):
do you want independent? Hey, Dave, you're gonna blame Belichick
and Brady for taking on the Jets, Dolphins and Bills
all those years. What do you want from? Somebody's got
to be the powerhouse. It's Granada Hills High and never mind,
let's not bury the lead here, Dave. If Granada Hills
goes three and one, you're taking Bucky and out of mask.
How does that work out? I can't, no, you kid,
that can't happen. That's that's a that's a seven fifty
(25:44):
winning percentage. That's worthy masters that it's not. Yes, And
we're gonna be hearing this, Bucky. We're gonna be hearing
this music. We're gonna be you know, Bucky, Bucky, Here's
what I'll do for you. I'm gonna I'm gonna unwrap
your napkin and put it in your caller for you. Okay,
I'm to present to you the entire dinner as if

Damn right? Good on Dave with a little towel over

(27:39):
who knows. I'll just hold up a sign this as
mastros hey bucket coach rocks I got. Maybe maybe I'll
bring back to sweet towel. Maybe I'll put mastrols on
the towel as it hangs out. The back hangs out,
the back of hangs o the back of my shorts
(28:00):
show syndicated on in Bangladesh. I anyone appreciates this? Where
where is the closest Masters? Is it Thousand Oaks X
of the pet Boys or is it like Beverly Hills?
But you know, if you're gonna go, you gotta go
to Beverly Hills, right, you have to, I mean you
gotta Hills. Make him pay the big ballet. You have
(28:22):
to coming up. Anytime I was saving, could cut those
microphones time man, blessed man, guys, Deckie Matsiam and Justin Rose.
Right now, I have a share the leaf of the
Masters that they minus seven right now raise they shut
out the Yankees for nothing. In the Marlins beat the
(28:43):
Mets three zip and that one Jacob gram eight innings,
dominant ball, four k's four teen, k's one earned run,
he gets, the defeat, suffers a loss. He's got a
point six four e r A two starts this season
and Mets and two in those two games. That kind of,
you know, that kind of feels like me on this
show at times and just throw up goose eggs and
strikeouts and getting no support. Ye're going to step in.
(29:06):
I was Sam gutless. It could be shut them out.
You don't need support, the man, shut them out, you
don't need support. Stop doctor in the baseball Bauer. I'd
love to tell you, all right, stop stop, stop, you know,
stop with the funny business on the baseball David Bauer,
and we won't have an issue here. I don't have
to tell you you're such an idiot. Sam. Alright, Jonas
(29:32):
knocks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio again. You
can listen to the show is always on the I
Heart Radio app. I do want to get to this conversation.
There's somebody in the NFL who is very very very protected,
So we will have that discussion here coming up shortly.
I wanted to ask you, Bucky, Uh, it is WrestleMania Weekend.
If you got to pick your top two or three
(29:54):
favorite wrestlers of all time, was there anybody that you
grew up watching the ego? Alright, those are my come
on now, Like being from North Carolina, the first guy
that you have to I would say, this guy is wrestling,
he embodies, he defines Rick Flair, the nature boy, the
nature boy like just defined my childhood, like he is everything.
(30:16):
And so if it's not Rick Flair, then it has
to be Dusty Rhodes. Oh man, so you go, so yeah,
all the Southern wrestling then that's right. Yeah, yeah, like
this see because this is before that WWF, w W
E thing whatever it is. Now I get the f F
F what? What? What? Where are we at? W W
was n w A where you listening to n w A?
(30:38):
Is that that's what? That's what it was National Wrestling
Alliance back then? That that was then, But like you know,
Hule Cogan was on the other one, so I never
really got down with that. When I got down with
the East Coasters, that the Southerners. So it was always
that WA who made Daniel Um the Anderson's uh the
(30:58):
four Horsemen? Uh man, what's my guy? That Rohnda Rowsy
Roddy Roddy Piper, Rowdy Roddy Piper. I love it. Oh,
but you know, no one could load the boot like
the Iron Cheek. Oh he was the best. I always
wonder why nobody ever tripped and fell and hurt themselves
on that pointy boot. That the Iron Cheek load the boot,
which load the boot. By the way, if you followed
(31:20):
the Iron Cheek on Twitter, the Iron Cheek is one
of those accounts on Twitter which it's really great to follow.
Just don't ever try and read it on the air,
because you'll get fired because he just lets it fly.
He does not He could not care less about who
he offends and what he says. But but yeah, that's it.
That's I didn't know. Yeah, you grew up with all
those guys. I would think it was a w A
or n w A was one of the I think
(31:41):
it was. I think so so. Yeah, very very very
good there, all right, Jonah knocks Bucky Brooks here on
Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next, somebody who is being
protected by the media in the NFL. We will get
to the latest on that next year. Jonas knocks Bucky
Brooks Fox Sports Radio and everybody don't worry about it.
Things are to be fine with Dave Gascon. We're gonna
(32:02):
be okay. We're gonna get this thing sorted out as
we take you all the way up until a p m.
Eastern time. Right here on FSR, He's Bucky Brooks, I'm
Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can hang
out with us. Is always on the I Heart Radio app.
You can find us on hundreds of Fox Sports Radio affiliates.
Uh and uh coming up in about we'll call it
(32:23):
fifteen minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio. We
are going to get into a draft story that's got
a lot of legs to it, some concerns regarding one
player near the top. So we will have that for
you again fifteen minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio.
By the way, we did mention WrestleMania this weekend in Tampa.
It's a two night event, and uh, well they got
(32:44):
a little bit of an issue of Bucky because it's
it's at Raymond James, it's outdoors, and now people are
being told to evacuate the area because there's thunder and
lightning in Tampa. So so right when they think they're
about to have WrestleMania back and ready to go, thunder
and lightning in the Tampa area. So who the hell knows?
(33:05):
Uh you, how many did you? How many games did
you ever have a game delayed or postponed because of weather,
because of lightning or anything like that playing? I think
once at North Carolina, I think we had a game
that was postponed for a little bit. So did you
find yourself having an issue getting back warmed up ready
(33:28):
to go based on what was happening, or was like, yeah, whatever,
I'm young enough, I could just deal with it. No, No,
it's it's different. It messes up you know, it creatures
that happen, It messes up your routine. Yeah, so I can.
I can recall going to a Georgia South Carolina game.
They got delayed for ninety minutes because of weather at
Williams Bryce in South Carolina, and my girlfriend now wife
(33:52):
at the time, she had never been to a college
football game. So I told her, as like, all right,
so we have to stay outside the stadium and just
gonna go hang out with some friends. We're gonna tailgate.
So they thought it was a good idea to tell
everybody to go back to where they were continue tailgating,
but but exit the stadium. So by the time the
game actually started, you gave all those fans another ninety
(34:13):
minutes to get hammered. So everybody was bombed when the
game actually started. But I remember that was the game
in which I saw Todd Gurley for Georgia break off
a run and it looked like he was playing with kids,
like Todd Gurley was so good. Oh my god, he
was so good. And that was before the second knee injury,
because didn't he have two knee injuries or did he
(34:34):
have one in college? Okay, so it was before the
knee injury, and he was He ripped off like a
sixty yard run in that game, and I said, wow,
he's just better than everybody else. It's just completely different, dude. Yeah,
he was easy, different dude, just the way you would
get down um, super talented. And then Georgia you talked
(34:54):
about have him, then you go right back and you
have Nick Chubb. Oh god, h they Yeah, they had
a running back crop, like a a consistent running back
crop that would come through there. And here's the crazy thing.
Todd Gurley's only twenty six, man, He's twenty six years old. So,
I mean, I don't know if he's going to be
in the league by the time he's thirty. But he
(35:16):
made his money. He's had a pretty damn good career.
He's a two time All Pro. Like he's gonna walk
away from this and people are gonna say, well, it's
a disappointment because how things ended with the Rams and
he was never quite the same. You know what, man
made some coin got out early. Yeah. Ever, Um, that's
that would be an interesting one. Yeah. Yeah, he was
(35:38):
really good. Um speaking of somebody in the NFL who
I can't I really can't figure this thing out. I've
never seen anybody get support from the media like Sam Donald.
I've never seen anything like it in the entire time
doing this. Is it just because he's a nice I
(36:00):
all of a sudden he gets away from the Jets
and he goes to Carolina and it's all man finally
he ends up in it. I don't know if he's
better than Teddy Bridgewater. I really don't know. So here
here's what I would say. Have Havening wrote about it
this week, um and my my notebook, I would say this,
Sam Donald is certainly the beneficiary of how people viewed
(36:25):
him when he was coming out of sc and that
narrative has been slowed to disappear despite three years of
what we would call underachievement at the NFL level, But
because so many people believed and expected him to do
great things in the league, we're waiting, and it's easier
(36:46):
to pin the blame on the environment, like it's the
nature versus nurture argument. The environment didn't allow him to
fully blossom and be who he is. I mean, he's everything,
And so Adam Gaze certainly years people out because you
saw this happen with Ryan Tannehill, and Ryan Tannehill didn't
(37:07):
play great. He goes to Tennessee, looks like a different player.
And so Sam Donald is getting the benefit of the
doubt because of all of those things. We saw Ryan
Tannehill leave Miami, go to Tennessee, new offense, coordinating new scheme.
He looks like a different guy. So a lot of
people are banking on that. Maybe it's gay. Maybe Gaze
held him back. He gets somewhere else is there? I
(37:28):
would say the only stretch where we've seen him be
okay has been the end of twenty nine and and
talking to people like they took some things off his plate,
they allowed to play fast, and he was able to succeed.
So we'll just we'll see, we'll see what it looks like.
I don't know. I I just I continue to hear. Yeah,
it's funny how we're now using the well, it's what
(37:50):
was around him as the argument. Man, there's been other
quarterbacks that that have come along that we don't use
that same discussion for Like remember the first like eight
nine starts for Dwayne Haskins. Oh, you know, get him
out of there, he's done, Okay. Why didn't we use
that same argument with Dwayne Haskins, Like why is this
continuing on with more of the sample size with Sam Donald?
(38:10):
Because we didn't give many analysts didn't give Dwayne Haskins
the same kind of grade or put the same expectations
on him. Many of them didn't think that he would
succeed or whatever, and so first first sign of failure,
oh we gotta dump him. He also didn't help with
the parties and the other selfie, the selfie like those
(38:34):
things didn't necessarily but you know, like, man, it's it's different. Man,
it's all subjective. When you talk about on our side,
and the media side, like who we go after, who
we don't go after? This? I mean, it's it's a
changing deal. Sam Donald got Moto, if Baker Mayfield got Mono,
you know exactly where that conversation would go. He's reckless,
(38:55):
he's selfish, he doesn't care about the team. He doesn't care.
But like Sam Donald does it and none, No, listen, guys,
we need to wait till he gets better, and then
we use it as an excuse for his poor play.
I don't get it. I really don't understand. Yeah, that's
a different I mean it's a different I mean, it's
a completely different deal. I mean I can't even really
explain it. I think I do think he's got talent
(39:18):
and and I I understand the discussion that, all right, well,
the Jets were dysfunctional and Adam Gates it didn't work
out there and he didn't have a bunch of weapons
around him. I'm okay with us having that argument, but
I wish we would have that argument with every quarterback
and not picking shoes who we decide is being affected
by what's around him and and who's actually doing it
(39:39):
on their own. And it feels like we're picking and choose,
and when it comes to these quarterbacks, like, is anybody
gonna stand up and speak out in defense of Josh Rosen.
Josh Rosen hasn't gotten a chance at all. He's been
completely burned. Blake Bortles got buried. I didn't see people saying, well,
what was around Blake Bortles. I just saw people say, well,
Blake Bortles is a bus saying which Robiskie, Derek hard Garoppolo, Like,
(40:01):
there's a lot of guys who had issues with what
was around him or dysfunction of coaching staffs or whatever,
But we don't choose to use that argument when it
comes to those guys. Were just choosing it with Sam
Donald And I get that he's a nice guy, but
there's a lot of nice guys. I just it's it's
puzzling to me why we continue to do this. Yes,
he does get the benefit of the doubt. We'll see
(40:21):
if he can make all of his beneficiary. He's feel
good about them sales based on how he performs it, right, hey, Carolina,
But yeah, he certainly has gotten away from away with it.
He is Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knocks. Is his Fox
Sports Radio coming up next, we will talk about one
player in the draft and the issues surrounding them. A
very interesting discussion next year for you on fs ARE.
(40:44):

(41:06):
it all on the show. I used to work for
Andy Reid as a scout. Now I give you my
unfiltered and raw opinions on everything that goes on the NFL.
And you know we're talking college football because of how
important the draft is year round. Listen to the Three
and Out Podcast with me, John middlecop on the I
Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts.
(41:26):
So there is a rumor, some buzz, some bad news,
you name it. It is NFL Draft season and somebody
is being affected more so than everybody else. We will
get into that here coming up just a couple of
moments from now. That guy right over there is Bucky Brooks,
I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can
spend time with us on the I Heart Radio app.
(41:47):
You can find us on hundreds of Fox Sports Radio
affiliate's all across the country. But wherever you are, we
appreciate you hanging out with us here on a beautiful
Saturday in the world of sports and beyond, as we
have got all sorts of fun stuff happening. We got
the Masters, we got WrestleMania, we got Draft coverage, Major
League Baseball's back, we just had a Mattenee UFC event.
(42:10):
All of this happening here. So it's good to be
with you here for the next couple hours here on
Fox Sports Radio. My guy, Bucky Brooks, What the hell
is happening? How you feeling? Man? It's another great Saturday,
damn right, and and a victorious Saturday. The Granada Hills
Highlanders with another big win. Now, did they know that
we that we discussed their team on national radio? Are they? Are?
(42:31):
They absolutely aware of that? Better be aware of that? Yeah?
Better be Yeah? They know that. I yeah, they know
they know we got a Masters bet on the line,
so they know what's at stake here. Um, all right,
So I do want to want to get into this
conversation because this is there's all sorts of speculation as
(42:52):
to why this is happening. But Justin Fields seemingly is
the quarterback whose draft stock is falling. And it feels
like every year there's some guy whose draft stock falls,
and you could go all the way back to whether
it's Warren Sap or it was Randy Moss or whoever
the case, maybe somebody seems to slip down the draft boards,
(43:13):
and in some cases it turns out to be a
major mistake because people overthink this stuff and that player
ends up being a great player. Why the Justin Fields
slippage when it comes to his draft stock? What? What?
What have? What has happened since he last played a
college football game that he's gone from the number two
prospects according to a lot of people to the clear
(43:36):
number five based on whatever research or evaluations that have
been done. What happened to Justin Fields here? Well? I
think a couple of things. Um media scouting versus um
real NFL scouting is different. In the NFL. You don't
have these great swings and variances when it comes to prospects,
(43:57):
like you thought a great of the great pretty much
stays the same. You have combined workouts and all those things,
but it doesn't typically impact the grade. The media scouting
world is different, right because you have too, um, you
have a few different agendas at play. You have the
people who want to be right on draft night, meaning
(44:17):
I want to be able to say, oh, yes, I
gave this guy first round pick because I think he's
going to be picked in the first round, not hey,
I gave my first round pick because what I'm saying
a first round pick embodies that's how he's going to
perform in your one, two, and three. And so that
clouds this situation because you have that part of it.
(44:41):
You have mock drafters who are also trying to be
cute and trying to figure out like who who am
I looking at? That Maybe I'm missing that could be
the surprise, and can I think like the executives think
in those things. And then when it comes to Justin
Fields as a player, Um, Justin Fields was on the
big stage maybe for too long, right, So Justin Fields
(45:05):
was a household commodity. He was a name. When he
and Trevor Lawrence came out of high school together. They
were one a one, B and whatever order. Right, They've
always been together um or tied together because they both
have been taling their prospects from an area that's pretty
close to one another. So that's how it's always been.
So when Clemson and Trevor Lawrence go and they do
(45:26):
their thing, we see Trevor Lawrence for the first time
because a lot of people, a lot of NFL fans,
a lot of NFL people, they only tune into the
college game when we get to the playoffs. So the
first time we really saw Trevor Lawrence was the College
Football playoffs, the Nation champiship game against Alabama. He looks great,
so he possed next year. He gets all the hype
at that game, people saying he's gonna be the number one.
He would be the number one overall day, right, which
(45:49):
you know, Jonathon, working in our business and particularly working
in TV, you're selling the game, right, And so Cardell
Jones was a first round pick after that run he
went on. Remember that was the disgust, right, So so
you have some of that. Well, Justin Fields and Trevor
Lawrence come back. Trevor Lawrence, I mean Justin Fields goes
to Ohio State, he's on the big stage. He replaces
Dwayne Haskins. People see him their first year. He has
(46:10):
forty whatever touchdowns, maybe an interception, all the stuff. So
so the expectations this year is Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields.
Trevor Lawrence plays. But then remember Trevor Lawrence sat out
of a handful of games, I think with COVID protocol
like some stuff. So he kind of disappeared. So what
did that do? That put all eyes on Justin Fields,
And unfortunately for him, he put up two stinkers on
(46:33):
games where everyone happened to see Indiana which was the
national game, and then the North the Northwestern in the
Big Ten Championship game people saw, and so people can't
get that stuff out of their mind, even though he
came back and played great against Glimpson in the semifinal.
So I mean, you have some of that, like you
have that and then the other stereotypical things that typically
(46:53):
come out when we do this analysis. Look, let's if
we're gonna be fair about this, let's be fair about it.
He got outplayed by Michael Pennocks Jr. In that game
against Indiana. Michael Pennics Jr. Was awesome. He didn't. And
in the same light, he completely outplayed Trevor Lawrence in
the semifinal game. Justin Field was the better quarterback on
the field. He showed toughness, he made all the throws
(47:14):
down the field. He was awesome. So you've always told me,
being the scout, you go to the big games first,
like that, when you're looking at a player's tape, how
did they do in the big time games? Well, that's
as big a game as it gets, you know, And
and I and I would say, look, he probably wasn't
completely healthy for that national title game. I mean he wasn't,
(47:37):
But I would say, like using using that, if you
go back and look at the last two times did
he played against Glimpson, I think reasonably you can say
that he outplayed Trevor Lawrence in both of them. You
can make a reasonable thing like yes, the interception at
the end of the game, um, not dispash year, but
the year before you can say that. But that game
you could you could say he either was a push
(47:58):
or justin Fields, I'll played him. And then this year
you say, justin Fields, I'll played him. So if we're
using those things as the bar, why wouldn't you expect
that to do? And I think here's also what happens
um on our side. You have people that are scouting
players and position who are really focused on the talent,
(48:21):
because really it's a talent evaluation. And be like Jonas,
if I asked you to go look at like you're
watching American Idol or The Voice, right you look at it.
You may not be a music expert, but I know
you are because you had your own band. But you
can tell someone who's talented, right, Like, It's as simple
as that. To me, Scouting football is the same way. Look,
we can get bogged down in the details and technicalities
(48:44):
of how you play, but literally it's as simple as
when I turn on the game, which guys pop, which
guys stand out to me? Where I'm like, oh, man,
I keep seeing that guy make a ton of plays,
or man, he's all over the field. It's the same
thing with justin fields, like when you see those things,
bank on the talent and so look, it may not
always be perfect, it may not be this, but man,
(49:05):
his game and his talent, his combination of raw athleticism
and arm talent already puts him as a top ten
player because he has that, then when you've seen him
play on the major stage, look, it's there. You go
in his background and you talk about people having MLB
interest in him as a baseball player. Who else had
baseball stuff in the background, Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes.
There's a lot of things to like about him. And
(49:26):
I believe that Justin Fields is really this draft's version
of Josh Allan slash Lamar Jackson, meaning we're gonna look
back at all of this stuff and then we're gonna
see the talent be like, man, we really were at him,
you know, just like we were Justin Herbert a year ago.
No one thought Justin Herbert was going to be there.
There was only a small minority of folks that were like, no,
(49:47):
Justin Herbert can't really play. But now it's, oh my god,
he's so great. It would be the same. Yeah, there
was a lot of people that were skeptical about Justin Herbert,
and you know, they, well, he showed off his legs
in his playmak ability and what was at the Rose Bowl?
I think it was the Rose Bowl the Bowl game,
and it was championship and the two games, and so
the thought was Oh my god, Well now he shows
(50:10):
it off. You know, where was this the entire time?
But now you go back and you look and you say, well,
maybe he wasn't. They weren't using him the right way,
because now you see they take the lid off and
all of a sudden he explodes to have a great season. Yeah,
they didn't. And they would tell you that the reason
they didn't run him much is they didn't have a
backup quarterback behind him. And so part of the reason
why they were very conservative really with him is that
(50:32):
they didn't want to expose him two shots because if
he goes out, they didn't have confidence in the person
that was behind him. That was from Mario crystal Ball.
And so when they got to the pack two of
championship game where the season is over, then at that point,
hey man, let it re no like literally, that's what
they said. So that's why they ran him more in
those games that in the Rose Bowl. They ran him
in those games because of where they were in that
(50:55):
part of the process. So for Justin Fields, and I
asked you this when it came to Mac Jones, because
you can you can explain this stuff better than anybody
on the radio. Because you were a former scout, Matt
I asked you, Okay, what does mac Jones do really well?
All right? What does Justin Fields do really well? And
what's the biggest knock on him as a quarterback? Because
I don't think it's character, right, Everything I've heard is
(51:16):
he's a good dude. Like, there's no there's no character
issues with Justin Field. So so what is the biggest
gripe against Justin Field? And what does he do well
at at a high level more so than than the
average quarterback that would come into a draft. I would
say the strength of Justin fields game his immense talent,
meaning his combination of arm talent, athleticism, explosive nous, and
(51:40):
playmaking ability like that is unique. I would say his
ability to um make throws, make plays stands out. The
weakness of his game would be he can be late
when it comes to his reads. UM Sometimes he hangs
on a player for too long before getting to his
(52:00):
second and third option in the route. That said, if
you really look at the tape, there are plenty of
times where he gets off of his first read and
gets to multiple reads like he does that UM And
so some of this is for whatever he is. I
don't know. People are piling on. Maybe it's still Ohio
State thing where you're you're scouting the helmet and so
(52:22):
because Dwayne Haskins came out of Ohio State and faltered, Oh,
there's no way we can do that. But I will
say this, if that's what you're doing in terms of
scouting the helmet, Let's look at Alabama. Let's look at
Alabama quarterbacks that have gone into the National Football League.
Who is the star quarterback from Alabama that has done it?
And I'm telling you I am. I was one of
(52:43):
the biggest tour fans, no demand. But like, if we're
saying this, if we're being objective, let's look at the
quarterbacks that have come out of Alabama and how many
of those guys have gone on to the pros and
popped right like great macaw Admarr Like none of those
So what are we talking about. I do think the
guilt by association thing is a real thing. People can say, no, no, no,
(53:06):
these are professionals. They don't take that into consideration. I
had heard stories that the reason the Texans didn't make
a run at Derek Carr in the draft is because
they had their had his brother, Like, think about that,
because of his brother and the experience he had within
the organization, they passed on a potential quarterback franchise quarterback
(53:26):
of the future just because well, you know, kind of
a rough outing with his sibling. Like the two should
have nothing to do with one another. Had two completely
different careers, completely different situations, different coaching staff is, staffs,
different regimes, different front office, all of it. But still
they couldn't get out of their head. I do think
the scouting by Helmet and the Dwayne Haskins influence is
(53:48):
it does have something here that people look at Dwayne
Haskins and go, well, we don't want that to happen again. Okay,
well we're gonna play that game. Then nobody take a
chance on Kellen Munt because Johnny Manzelk from Texas A
that like, what are we talking about here? Yeah, there's
some things I mean, but and then something like I'm
in places where we were talking about Penn State corners.
(54:09):
Don't mess with Pan State corners because they may have
been a history of guys that have faulted there, or
U c l A guys. Don't mess with u c
l A guys. Because they're exposed to everything and Brentwood
and Beverly Hills and audio teams. So I mean, people
make up what it is they want to make up.
But at some point you just have to be able
to scout. You have to be able to look at
the talent and see if a guy can play or
(54:31):
if you can't play. And the great thing about the
draft and these things, eventually these guys play in the league,
and that is when we get a chance to see
who can really scout, who can evaluate who can He's

Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can spend
time with us as always on the I Heart Radio
Appy here that music, you know, it can only mean
one thing. We will get to Adam Kaplan coming up
here in just a moment. Do you want to let
you know the Iowa Minute will be taking place this hour?
(55:37):
Stick around for details on the Iowa Minute. I'd also
like to know when exactly the Iowa Minute is so
I can no longer be in the studio because I
would like to skip that portion of the program. But
we will give you details on that coming up here
later on in the hour on Fox Sports Radio. But
right now he is our NFL insider. You hear him
on Sirius x M NFL Radio as well. He is
(55:57):
Adam Kaplan joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Adam
Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks. What's happening. God's good to talk
to you. What is the Iowa Minute? I don't know
what that is? All right? Let me let me explain
what it is. Iowa Sam is our technical producer and
he is the biggest Iowa ha oh that before okay,
I get it now, and so he does a It's
it was originally supposed to be sixty seconds of everything Iowa.
(56:21):
It's now morphed into like a ten minute segment now
and uh and people love it. It's all the rave.
So if we can give a little bit of love
to the great state of Iowa, it's at least we can. There.
You go, hey, listen, I was at Iowa hoop fan
back in the eighties. Man, as a kid. They were
so dominant under a variety of coaches. Dr Tom Davis
if you remember him, and um Roy Marble, who was
(56:41):
sir jam a lot and um see you like that.
Huh see, I know my Iowa Hawkeye basketball and I
actually went to a regional here in Philly. Yeah, they were.
They were the thing in the eighties. Man, Okay, Now,
what was the game? Because this was a discussion during
one show. Then Bucky's North Carolina tar Heels got crewed
by Iowa. What was the game? Sam? And was it?
(57:04):
Roy Marble? Yes, he was exactly happened. So I was
on a trip to North Carolina. North Carolina was playing
I I was at Chappel Hill at the end of
the game. Bj Armstrong is on the team. Someone got filed,
and I think that someone might have been Ed Horton,
(57:24):
and Ed Horton was supposed to shoot the free throws. However,
when they broke the huddle, Roy Marble is on the line.
He drained the two free throws as Iowa won by two.
And we looked it up. There's actually an article about
that game in which it was so obvious North Carolina
got sw I don't remember that. Yeah, it was so obvious,
(57:49):
and so that became a major because I had no
idea what they were talking about. And then I found
the article. I said, Sam, how could you support this
program that screwed over North Carolina like this but unbelievable story? Well, yeah,
it's all right. So so from speaking of Carolina Carolina,
Adam Kaplan he has themselves a new quarterback and it's
Sam Donald. Um, how did this deal get done? And
(58:11):
are we actually going to see a quarterback competition in
camp or is the job Sam Donald's and we're gonna
run with it. Yeah, there's there's a lot of layers
the Carolina By the way, it's the number eight overall pick.
So they were in the Deshaun Watson acquisition race. If
you want to whatever you wanna call it. They had
been on him. They were the strongest by far from
the Eagles, and a couple of other teams also have
had had interested Watson. But I'm gonna say in the
(58:33):
last two to three weeks their interest wayne because of
Watson's legal issues. So they moved to plan B, which
is getting a veteran quarterback and acquiring one, and that
one was Sam Donald. He'll be the presumed started for
two seasons by based on contract structure. They're trying to
move Teddy Bridgewater. They've been trying for a couple of months. Uh.
He's got a seventeen million dollar based salary. Ten million
(58:54):
is fully guaranteed. Uh. They don't want to cut him.
Talking to the Panthers this week, they feel that closest
to the draft they might have something a team to
look at. Here would be Denver at number nine. Now
not they're not giving up the draft pick of the
ninth overall. But George Peyton, the the GM of the Broncos,
was with the Vikings for many years and he was
there when they drafted Teddy Bridgewater, so he knows him. Um.
(59:16):
But the problem with this contract, it's not gonna be acceptable.
You're not taking his salary of seventeen million, just not
Um because you don't know that he's gonna be their starters.
So if they traded for him the Broncos, he would
compete against Drew Lock for the starting job. But the
Broncos have been a record Peyton said that recently that
they were gonna have competition for Drew Lock. So that's
where Teddy Bridgewater might come in. You know, Adam been
(59:39):
thinking about the Teddy Bridge water thing. I want to
go back more to the UM thing. When you talk
around the league, what was the perception on Sam Donald?
Like I know it appears that like we in the
media have given him a pass where maybe his underachievement
in New York? What what what's the league perception on him? Grinder,
tough guy, UM, very well liked by a scouting people.
(01:00:01):
Was talking to Um a couple of teams actually about him.
We were looking for a quarterback, but Um, like his
tape is bad last season. Let's let's you know, let's
call it like it is. He he would have gotten
bench if they had anybody else behind him. Was read
at Joe Flacco. Unfortunately, remember he missed everything. He was
not clear until mid September. Um, you're Joe wind Up
starting four games when Sam was not available. But if
they had a younger, developmental quarterback, Donald would not have
(01:00:23):
finished the season. But um, he's still young. Look, this
guy was the first round pick. Uh, the third overall
in twenty eighteen. Talented guy. But um I felt all
along that that Joe Douglas would move on without him.
They have a second overall pick. But I felt that
this is interesting. Joe Douglas did say, have they been
picking lower? Okay lower, we're talking about in the teens.
(01:00:45):
They would not have traded Donald. He would be the guy,
which tells you. And this is what I learned from
Bill Pollion, from for working with him at ESPN for
many years. You never ever pass up at a potential upgrade.
And that's that's what Joe Douglas clearly seeing that Sam
Donald is not good enough and Zach Wilson will be
the quarterback, and that he clearly feels that he's going
to be the upgrade. Adam Kaplan Fox Sports Radio, NFL
(01:01:07):
Insider Sirius x M NFL Radio joining us here on
Fox Sports Radio. Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks of the here Um.
You mentioned Carolina and their pursuit of Deshaun Watson. Obviously
this thing has gone from well, look if somebody's out
to get a little bit of money, to well, something
did happen, but it was consensual with all these massage therapists.
(01:01:27):
Where does how how do you and people you've talked to,
how is this going to go from a punitive standpoint
for Deshaun Watson. Well, the next step would be to
put him on the Cristure's Special Exemption if the league
feels that at some point over the next few months
that the information is strong enough that they want to
get him off the field. Now, remember we don't even
know what the O tape, the O t A practice
(01:01:49):
schedule will be. We're very optimistic that we're gonna have practices,
whether it's gonna be May or June. And as a
veteran quarterback, he does not have to he doesn't have
to report. He only has to be at the mandatory
camp if there is one of June. And remember, let's
not forget folks, the origin of everything with Deshaun Watson
is him wanting to be traded. Uh, he doesn't have
the leverage to do that anymore because of of what's
(01:02:11):
been alleged against him. Um, there there are a lot
of teams that are concerned. UM. I know from Panther
sources they they were troubled enough to back off. They
were I'll tell you what I would say that if
he didn't, if Watson did not have the legal issues,
they were absolutely number one to get him. And I
don't think they would have stopped the full court press
(01:02:31):
on trying to get Watson. But again, um, they were
not comfortable with the situation. No team is to answer
your question, Jonas, no team is comfortable right now with
watson situation. Whether and as you talked about Rusty Harden,
you I know you're looking to Rusty hard in his
his attorney, the famous defense attorney who was representing Roger
Clemens amongst other athletes. You put some stuff out there
(01:02:52):
yesterday and it I would say, in the next six
day weeks, we're gonna learn more. It's gonna go to court,
and that's kind of where we see it now. The
question and is dis Alite feel like they need to
step in because remember they're doing their own investigation and
at some point they're gonna have to come up with
resolution here that that's where this is gonna end. Are
they gonna they're gonna take him off the field or not? Man,
(01:03:12):
this is and it's a lot of Texans don't have
a first or second round pick. It's a lot of
taking like Adam and and thinking about the dishon thing like, um,
would this be close to maybe like I mean not
in scope, but the Ben Roethlisberger's situation in terms of
when we're looking at potentially like league like down the
(01:03:34):
road suspensions and how they can come like that was
not charged with anything and they still still got suspended. Yeah,
so so so are we potentially looking at something that
could happen like that where a regardless like just stained
and this is going to be a situation where and
so then how would the Texans nearhanda because you talked
(01:03:54):
about the leverage not being that, but could the Texans
even bring him back as their QB one like with
with all of the stuff that's swirling around this city
and maybe how the fans may view him, can they
comfortably tried him out as the quarterback after all of
this subs It's a great point because plus it's it's
where he's playing right now where he's under contract. So
(01:04:15):
the Texans will rely on whatever the league finds out
and whatever the league tells him. Schiplally, the way it works,
it would be hard for him. Again, depends on where
this goes over the next six weeks. What else comes out?
Are there any more allegations as you get cleared from
any of these that that's what we have to You know,
when you've got over you got around two dozen accusations,
you have to you gotta kind of sort through them.
(01:04:38):
But it's really a it's it's a complex situation. It's
not easy to dig through it. And this this is
a situation right now with a quarterback with the Texans
right now, Tyrod Taylor is their start of the season.
If Watson's not clear to play. That's the other thing is,
we don't know that Watson will be clear to play.
We we we're so early in this investigation. We're in April,
and by the way, teams are gonna want to find
(01:04:58):
out more there there's still teams hovering around the situation.
I'm telling you, their teams still gathering information. They went
on what's real and what's not and and and they're
They're still gonna keep looking at it. The last thing
on on the Deshaun Watson stuff before we move on
to a couple other things in the NFL Adam. We
obviously saw the sponsors that pulled out. Some sponsors have
suspended their relationships with Deshaun Watson pending what ends up
(01:05:21):
happening with all this is this, could this go the
direction of potentially Houston getting some money back from Deshaun
Watson avoiding portions of his contract based on on on like,
do you know enough about Marls Claus. Yeah, there's certain
language um contract conduct detrimental or um. There's certain language
(01:05:42):
a specific language with avoidable languages is in every NFL contract,
and that that could happen eventually. You know, you hope
it doesn't, but if it does, they will have see
if they're going to take it Jonas to that point
that means they're not gonna want him on the roster.
That that will tell you everything. They would only do
that the new clear button if they feel like he
actually did what he's alleged have done and they went
(01:06:04):
out and you know, Nickossario, by the way, the new
GM walks into this thing. Within three or four days.
Remember he found out of that that Watson wanted out. Um,
and you walk into the Jack Easterby situation. Who's the
director of football operations for them, who's a former team
chaplain for the Patriots, who's an actually advisor for um
(01:06:26):
some people with the Texans, and um, you know he's
he's part of the word around the league. That's part
of why Watson wanted out is because he just didn't
want to be around Easterby and that the atmosphere from
uh Bill O'Brien. But look, the fact of matters, this
thing is pretty serious and the Texans right now are
in a tough position. Adam kaplan. Is the mac Jones
stuff gonna happen? From people you've talked to, is he
(01:06:48):
going three to the forty niners? Or is this the
most elaborate smoke screen we've ever seen in the NFL? No,
you know, it's funny. I've I've run his for you know,
when you talk to coaches, you go, hey, what kind
of system? Where would he plug into? The best system
for mac Jones is Kyle Shanahan's and Mike Shanahan's off
West Coast offense. Why it is a run after the catch.
It's not like any Reid. It's not as past happy.
(01:07:10):
It's more of a run based scheme. Off that play
action time and get it out there. Let you don't
need to have a strong armed for it to work.
Kyle Shanahan creates space for the receivers to get open.
That that's that's his offense. So I do believe there's
some truth to it. But here I'll tell you what
the hot spots for the draft we should we should
talk about this number three to the Niners. The Falcons
(01:07:31):
have put the word out that they want out of
the pick because they they're total rebuild Caroline at Is
as we outline everything they are in the cornerback market,
they're not taking a quarterback. We're talking about corner here.
They despite signing a j Bowie there, they're still very
weak at corner. That's offensive line, uh and corner or
the two positions they need. Those are the hot spots
right now. And then of course, what has Denni for
(01:07:52):
do at number nine at quarterback? If they trade for
Teddy bordge order, they obviously would be out of the
quarterback acquisition at number nine. Interesting him Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio,
NFL insider Sirius x M NFL Radio. Get him on
Twitter at Caplan NFL and you learn something new every
week with with Adam Kaplan. Months and months and months
ago we found out he was vegan, and now we've
(01:08:14):
just found out he was an Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan
in the eighties. Who clos Iowa hawk guy? Unbelievable. Dr
Tom Davis one of my favorite coaches. Um, yeah we
can go Ronnie Lester for those of you are Yeah,
we can listen. I know the name Brad Lowhouse, who
was a lefty was not very good, but yeah, I
(01:08:34):
could go through all the names I remember man, Iowa
Sandity to cigarette. All right here, Well job, well done
that Adam will do it again next week. We appreciate it.
Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio. Yes, mercilessly, uh,
the mercifully. The Iowa Minute will be happening here coming
up later this hour on fs are but for all
(01:08:56):
the latest from around the world of sports, ladies and gentlemen.
And Tom bro who's on the updates today? Yeah, Gascon
is coming up. Gascon is coming up. It's been a
long time since this has happened, but this is an
awful show. I don't think it's that bad. I think
it's kind of bad. It's not our best show, but
it's not our worst. It's much worse. Listen, you guys
(01:09:18):
decided to you and Buck. You decide to spit and
just take shots at me like I was Lorenzo and
training day. And then you bring on Adam Caplan who
decides to defect on us as Americans to pledge allegiance
to Iowa. I had no idea, what the hell is
all that is all coincidental? I had no idea Adam Look,
(01:09:41):
Adams from the Northeast, he's from Philadelphia. For God's sakes,
you know, I had no idea that Adam Caplan was
as involved and into Iowa basketball in the eighties like
you was. It's not my fault, it's it's sad. It's
a it's a bad day at the I hate the
state of Iowa. Listen, guys, if we could trade Greenland
for Iowa, we should do it. I don't also cold
(01:10:02):
and Iowa, but I have a coach friend McCaffrey's from Philadelphia,
So it all comes full circle. Are you who cares? Nobody?
It's like what we give we why is the Iowa
minute taking over this show? We're being held hostage by
a silo gun, Like, why why does Iowa continue to
(01:10:23):
take over this show? I didn't tell Adam to bring
up any Iowa affiliations. I don't know. So it's the
blue off here. People are intrigued. What can I say?
Dave started this? I didn't start anything. Yeah, I was
a it was a good day. I just came in
here in a rock and all of a sudden, just
it's really uncalled for. The problem is the problem is
(01:10:44):
is you have made people feel bad for Iowa Sam. Therefore, Yeah,
that's all this is that people feel so bad for
him that they want to just give. It's he's like
you know the Starving Dogs with the Sarah McLaughlin music
in the background. Yeah, they show like this rot Wilder.
He's got a bug the size of a seven forty
(01:11:06):
seven on his eyelid, and they go, he needs your help.
Thirty two cents a day, We'll feed this puppy. And
it's like, come on, man, what are we doing here?
It's like, I feel like you've been doing that now.
Everybody feels bad for Iowa Sam. They're donating to him,
and we got to hear about the Iowa minute every hour.
This sounds like it's gonna have a segway to you
know what we watch at three o'clock in the morning,
like the Spanish Weather Um, it's gonna segway into Iowa
(01:11:29):
Sam infommercials at three in the morning asking for donations.
Let me tell you there's worse things to watch in
the world than the Spanish Weather Channel. Actually, you know,
put that over the super Bowl. Yeah, I have trust me.
I was, I was watching that Super Bowl. Guys at
the Master Years, the decide, Matsa Yama is now you're
(01:11:50):
only leader of the pack. Justin Rose is in sick
in place. But it was a three way time for
quite a while. And now Matsa Yamas at minus ten
two strokes in front of Justin rohe is and so
far through round number three he's done with sixteen holes.
He's in pursuit, though, from a couple of different golfers.
Major League Baseball rays shot the Yankees, the New York team.
The Mets get blanked by the Mornins three nothing. Jacob
(01:12:11):
Degraham is a point six four r A. But oh
when won the season? Mets have lost both of his
starts this year. Man, we need to cut everybody off.
Iowa Sam off. Now we got a cut off kaplan.
I mean, this is the last two years. We've been
canceling everything. We cancel Iowa, we cancel SAM, We canceled CAP,
we canceled Granada Hills Football. Let's do this in a
(01:12:35):
perfect world. The Great Gary Dolphin. Now, does Gary Dolphin
do football and basketball in Iowa? Yes? He does. The
Great Gary Dolphins decides. What if Gary Dolphin were just
to decide, you know, I'm gonna step down. I've had
a legendary career, you know, Hall of Famer all of it,
you know, just treated with nothing but respect. And then
(01:12:55):
all of a sudden, Iowa announces a brand new voice
of the football and basketball team, and it's none other
than David Gascon. That would be the perfect world. I'm
telling you, I'd still listen. Well what support from iowas
he'd still give you a listen David about that? Thanks,
(01:13:15):
I need you on Thursday night. But very good? All right,
Jonas Stocks, Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio. You
can listen to us as always on the I Heart
Radio app coming up next. Yes, it is the Iowa Minute.
I don't want to do it, you don't want to
listen to it, but unfortunately we're being held hostage at
gunpoint by a man who cannot get over the state
(01:13:36):
he is from. And it's yours next year on fs ARE.
He's Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio.
You can spend time with us on the I Heart
Radio app and we appreciate you hanging out with us
here on fs ARE. Coming up top of next hour,
we will dive more into the NFL Draft, all sorts
(01:13:56):
of rumblings out there, and we have identified potentially the
best player in the draft. We'll have that four year
top the next hour here on Fox Sports Radio. Right now, though,
it is time for something neither one of us wants
to do. It's time for this. Hey got a minute? Heaven?
Oh Iowa? Like you give a damn Now presenting the
(01:14:20):
most up to date happenings from Iowa's four Division one teams,
Ladies and gentlemen, cowsand pigs. It's the Iowa Minute. Here's
Iowa Sam and away we go. Jonas is back. Everyone,
round of applause from our studio audience. Back on the
Iowa Minute. Uh, Jonas, you missed the whopper last week,
(01:14:42):
an epic epic Iowa Minute. No? I love Andy Fermi?
Did Andy Ferminals get thrown off the air again? Or
now nearly nearly? I listen? I love fermin I love
the guy, but he doesn't know how to handle the
Iowa Minute, right Bucky? He I mean he tolls, he
tows the line a lot. There was not an enough
roasting on the segment, not enough hostile criticism and lampooning
(01:15:04):
from Andy to carry the segment to its pitiful conclusion.
So we're happy to have you and your bad mouthing
back on the Iowa Minute. Jonas. The segment stinks. So
what are we going to have to speed this thing up?
Feel better? Now? Is that what you wanted? My self?
Est team is boosted up a notch. Guys, Luca Garza,
have you heard of him after Luca don Yeah, of
(01:15:30):
course you have, because he's the consensus national player of
the year in men's college basketball. And this may be
the last time I speak of Luca legend on this
Iowa Minute. Wow, that's not very nice to face. Tommy
Lee Jones, all right, I'll be honest, Luca will probably
(01:15:51):
come up again at some point, But on Tuesday it
became official. Iowa's first ever John R. Wooden Award winner
is Luca Garza, and with that, Garza became the unanimous
one Player of the Year, sweeping all the awards. He's
going to need a large wooden shelf for his Wooden
Award along with all the others. By the way, is
(01:16:11):
the Wooden Award wooden? Do you need? You? Guys? Know? Yeah,
I just thought that would get a laugh. It's not
award like if it was George Washington's wooden teeth that
would be By the way, did that seem uncomfortable having
wooden teeth when you were the President of the United States?
Weird dental implants of the time? Uh, Speaking of questions, guys,
(01:16:35):
the iron hoops used in the final four? Do you
ever wonder where they come from? Bucky Jonas? Can I
take a guess? Go ahead, Jonas, yet guess Iowa? Well,
every Spaulding Arena renegade come from one Spaulding factory in
none other than Jefferson, Iowa, of course, a town of
(01:16:57):
about four thousand people. Pretty neat a hate I lined
already either Borgan Freeman. I don't all right, we heard
that already. Well that's random fact brought to you by
Spalding and up to the minute Grain Prices. I gotta
get it in there. Okay. Well, college basketball is over,
(01:17:18):
but the transfer portal is busier than a New York
subway platform at the moment, Jonas, you weren't here. But
last week it was announced that Drake's sophomore guard Joseph
Yesafu would be entering said portal. And now we know
his new home bill selves Kansas Jayhawks, going big time,
big time now, best of luck to him. Also, former
Iowa forward Jack Nungji will be transferring to Xavier, and
(01:17:41):
Iowa State has acquired several transfers under new head men's
basketball coach t j Otzelberger's sophomore guard Caleb Grill, who
followed coach Ots from unl un l V to Ames,
and junior guard Gabe Gabe Kyl Shower. I hope I
said that right, who traded his Minnesota Golden Gopher jersey
for cyclone red. Lots of transfers there, lots of you
(01:18:02):
guys like trains. Sure were they invented in Iowa too?
Not quite all right, that's enough of that sound effect.
A train ride is always fun, right well. Sad report
that the relationship between University of Io Athletics and the
Hawkeye Express has derailed. It has derailed for fifteen years.
The Iowa Northern Railway Company and UI Athletics have partner
(01:18:24):
to haulte hundred Iowa fans from Coralville, Iowa to Kinnic
Stadium on what was known as the Hawkeye Express, a
train and a very charming game day tradition now gone
because of cost train maintenance and equipment upgrades and continued
social distancing. Definitely a bummer, but it was apparently costing
the university hundreds of thousands of dollars for six to
(01:18:44):
seven ten minute train rides a year. Still goodbye for now,
Hawkeye Express. Take take an uber like it with the
times you guys, still you guys, still churned butter in
the front yards to what are you amish? Well, we'd
like to, you know, take a train ride to Kinocks
Stadium is pretty neat, pretty neat, but subsidized by the
school there, the athletic department. It was time to put
(01:19:06):
a bull on that budget. Cruns and such. What are
we talking about here, I lost my train of thought,
no idea. All right, we'll wrap up with this spring
football North Dakota State the Bison, they lead Northern Iowa
tend to six at halftime. And it was a bulldog
eat bulldog as Drake chewed up Butler thirty three to seven.
And that's your Iowa minute. Thank you, job well done,
(01:19:27):
another award winning or a minute by Iowa Sam here
standing performance. By the way, when are we going to uh?
Are you going? Is I were going to have a
spring game? Or they already had their spring game? Is
that happening? They will be having an open spring scrimmage
and fans will be allowed capacity. I think that we're
starting to get to spring game season for a lot
(01:19:50):
of places. I think it was NC State. I think
NC State had their spring game earlier today, one of
those schools that at a spring game earlier today. So
we are starting to get to that point to what
we're doing spring football. And now are they going full
contact at these spring games or is it don't bring
anybody to the ground because you're going, You're going it's
a control of scrimmage, but you still you still taking
(01:20:12):
guys to the game. Is more situational than like a
true spring game. Did they do spring games at North
Carolina when you were playing? Yeah, so when you were
when you were running yourt they were people trying to
light you up over the middle when you were going
over to make a catcher. Unbelievable sandbagging. Nobody has ever
(01:20:34):
sandbagged on this show. Like Bucky Brooks just casually mentioning
that he ran a four to forty just you know,
just casually throws. It's like when lead to Lap comes
in studio and between breaks one time and says, oh, yeah,
did you know that my dad was the drummer in
the band Off and Back to the Future. It's like, wait, what, Yeah,
he's a drummer in the The Pinheads. Is that it's
(01:20:54):
the name of the band, Lee the Pinheads that it's correct?
The Pinheads? Like how do you just and he and
then he says, oh, and by the way, the Jurassic
Park ride at Universal Studios, my dad designed the dinosaur
at the end, Like, okay, and King Kong, what are
we doing here? Come on? Lee? Like, why are you sandbag?
You're pulling a Bucky Brooks. You guys are sandbag and
(01:21:15):
you've got all these accomplishments. It's like Dave Gascon who says, oh,
you know, my dad was part of the O J Chase,
you know, like from Iowa, Sam, you got anything you
want to you want to reveal on the air here
since everybody else's sandbagging. Uh No, you know Adam Kaplan
loved dioa basketball back in the day. Credit for that?
(01:21:36):
Is there? Anything is your family? Like? Like did you
did your family invent Quaker oat? Like that? Like ever
sang on this ship, I got nothing to add. There's
a quake factory and why we have the grains? Yeah,
he's got a vested interest in it. You know, it
helps stock prices for quite your own. I mean, you know,
(01:21:59):
just everybody's got up in here this show except for me.
I was hour three for you though. Next year on
fs ARE. It's the one remaining question in the NFL
draft when it comes to what is going to happen
and what will this team do. We'll get to that
here coming up in just a couple of moments from now.
That guy read over there is Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox.
This is Fox Sports Radio. You can spend time with
(01:22:21):
us on the I Heart Radio app. You can hang
out with us on hundreds of Fox Sports Radio affiliates.
But wherever you are taking part in this program, we
appreciate you doing so we're taking you all the way
up until eight pm Eastern time. Here the three hour Extravaganza,
our three of three here on Fox Sports Radio, and
ladies and gentlemen, make some damn noise for my guy,
(01:22:44):
Bucky Brooks. What's going on, my man? What's happening? I
gotta so. We've obviously got a busy weekend, um, you know,
on the field as far as golf goes, and some
other things that are happening. Major League Baseball, you know,
the NBA's in action. We had the UFC earlier today.
But we are draft heavy, all right. The NFL Draft
is one of the great things. Have we decided are
(01:23:04):
we going to be doing Bucky Clause this year? And
the are we gonna do? That's that's when the guys
called in and I would tell them what their team
was going to do. That was so what we did, Uh,
I think we've done in the past couple of years, um,
where we would get and we just threw it out there.
(01:23:27):
I was like, what if people would be interested in this,
and the phone lines would be filled because we'd say, hey,
you can ask Bucky Clause. You can sit on his lap,
not literally, especially with COVID, but you can sit on
his lap and and you can ask Bucky Brooks what
your team is going to do two at the top
of the NFL Draft or wherever they're picking. And so
(01:23:49):
you'd get these people that would call in and they'd go, hey,
what do you think my team's gonna do? And all
you would do is I think they're going to do this.
It wasn't what you would do. It was what you
think their team is going to do. And if they
didn't like it, sometimes they would get a little bit
agitated with you. But that's one of the big issues
with these mock drafts is that it's not a representation
of what you would do. It's a representation of what
(01:24:12):
you think is going to happen. Thus, you know, that's
why a little bit of a controversial a segment that
we do here. So maybe we'll do a little bit
of Bucky Clause before we get ready for the NFL Draft. Okay,
if if we all believe that the Jaguars are taking
Trevor Lawrence one, and that Zack Wilson is going to
to the Jets. And let's just say, for example, that
(01:24:32):
the Niners are going to go with Mac mac Jones
at number three. So we've got three quarterbacks off the board.
The question is Atlanta, what the hell's the plan in Atlanta? What?
Because we we've seen de Orlando led Better does a
great job covering the falcons um for the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
He said, well, you know, Arthur Smith and the GM
(01:24:53):
they're on the same page, and you know they're in
alignment with what they're gonna do with the pick. Adam
Kaplan said last hour that Atlanta has let it be
known they want to trade out of that spot. Well,
if you don't get what you think is fair value
and you've got to make a pick, that's not a
bad spot to be in if you're Atlanta. Right, No,
it's not a bad spot to be in for sure. Um.
(01:25:14):
I think the big thing if you're Atlanta, the conversation
that you have to have Arthur Smith and Terry fond
note is all right, how do how do we see
Matt Ryan? Do we see Matt Ryan as a guy
that can you know, be around the next to three years,
how much how much? How much game does he have left? Okay,
and then then you work back from that. If you
(01:25:34):
want to build it around Matt Ryan and do the
short fixed thing, then the way that you use the
fourth pick is different. Like maybe you take cow Pitts,
put someone up playmaking in the middle. You have Julio
on the outside with Calvin Ridley, and you're believing that
those guys the support team is going to help Matt
Ryan um get back to play and get an m
VP level. If you don't believe in Matt Ryan, then
(01:25:56):
the quarterback has to be in the mix. Yes, you
have to take the quarter break at that point, because
this class is so talented, so deep, you don't know
what's going to happen in later classes. So that's where
they're at a lot of it. The decision really depends
on how they viewed Matt Royan within the building and
how often are you gonna be picking in the top four,
(01:26:17):
you know, Like so if you're there, why wouldn't you
entertain the idea of taking a quarterback? Like if Justin
Fields was there, and you think that Justin Fields can
be it can be a guy who can play at
a high level or a tray lance if they're sitting there.
If you're the Falcons, look, I know it's not going
to help you immediately, but at least you've you've addressed
(01:26:40):
the quarterback of the future conversation. And look, let's just
be honest about Matt Ryan. There was a stretch last
year for the Falcons in which I think they went
thirty something drives without a touchdown. I mean, we can
say whatever we want about all well, you know, uh,
you know they had there was coaching issues and you know,
(01:27:00):
he was banged up a little bit in the offensive
line and all this Matt Ryan seeing better days. The
end is near for Matt Ryan. So this idea that oh,
we're just gonna roll with him for the next several years,
I'm not buying it. If you've got an opportunity to
take a trail answer at justin Fields, that has to
be part of the discussion. Like, you've got to at
least entertain the idea of taking one of those guys
based on the fact that you're probably not going to
(01:27:22):
hopefully be picking this high in the draft in the
near future. Yeah, I think that has to be consideration.
You have to think about the future, and if you're
really doing it as an evaluator or teams decision maker,
you should be able to look at what is in
this class while also casting your out to what's in
next year's class, in the class after that at quarterback,
(01:27:42):
because if you're saying, oh, there's gonna be plenty of
options next year a quarterback, so if we mess this
up this year, we can go back and get our
young quarterback of the future next year. However, if there's
a huge drop off and disparity between what was available
in this class and what's available next year, then you're
more inclined to say, look, it might be a year
too soon, but we're going to take the quarterback because
(01:28:03):
we need to make sure we have someone that can
take the torch from Who are the guys next year
to look out for? Because I hear that that there's
a significant drop off, but it seems like like a
Zach Wilson, there's always somebody that pops up and has
a big year. So who are the top quarterback prospects
for next year? The team should be keeping an eye
on the first person everyone's gonna talk about it is
(01:28:24):
gonna be Sam how from North Carolina. And the reason
they're gonna talk about him is because, look, he's a
big time arm talent. He's done it in a major way.
He is hot when it comes to his ability to
get the ball out to all the playmakers. And so
he's one. Um. There's a kid at Liberty, Malik Willis,
who has gotten interest and he is on the radar
(01:28:45):
like he could be this year's version of Like it's
not fair to say he's this year's version of trade Lance,
but look, guy that was kind of off the grid
plays at a high level planning on a Hugh Freeze.
He has a chance. And I was keep an eye
on a guy who's who's on the locally to l
A but Matt Coral Mcarrel down at Old Miss who's
been slinging the rock a little bit. Just keep an
(01:29:07):
eye on him, I'm not saying in the first round,
but just keep an eye on how he progresses in
the link given. But there, it's not the class that
this year is. According to a lot of people know
it's it's not the class and the difference with this class,
this class featured a bunch of household names. Prior to
the rise of the Charge that we saw at the
end of the season, but household names were justin fields
(01:29:28):
and Trevor Lawrence coming in. Trey Lance was a household name.
Mag Jones and Zach Wilson weren't in that conversation at
the end of at the beginning of the season, um,
but things sayings like that, that's the beauty of evaluation.
And here's what I think would be interesting. So if
Atlanta keeps the pick and say they take a Kyle
pits And and that's the guy they go with who
I know you're really high on, and they take Kyle Pitts,
(01:29:51):
then you've got Cincinnati, who's not going to be taking
a quarterback. Then you've got my and this is all
assuming there's no trades. Then you've got Miami, who we
think is not going to be ta get a quarterback.
Then it turns to Detroit. Is Detroit taking a quarterback
with the seventh pick after the acquisition of Jared Goff?
I don't know. I don't think so, Yeah, I don't.
(01:30:11):
I don't think they did. In a mix like that,
I think they would bypass it. I think they would
take a really good player they're trying to maybe trade
out auction to pick or whatever. And then you have
the Carolina Panthers sitting at eight, and I don't think
they would be in the quarterback games. They said that
they would entertain it, but obviously if it failed in them,
And you're talking about marquee value in terms of someone
trying to come up from the teens, maybe the Washington
(01:30:33):
football team, the New England Patriots one of those teams
trying to get out. So man, the the draft starts
with the Atlanta Falcons at four, Yes, their decision will
alter the course of the draft for everyone after them,
because then you've got Denver at nine. Who I would
assume if there's a quarterback there, like a tray lance,
(01:30:55):
they would they would entertain the I t of taking
a tray lance. You've got the Cowboys and Giants think
they're taking a quarterback. I have no idea what the
hell Philly is gonna do. Um, Look, Philly could take
a quarterback. If a quarterback gets all to be done
in twelve, then that would be a bit of a surprise.
But I mean, I don't know. We've seen strange, stranger
things happen because how people talk on the outside, certain
(01:31:18):
this is sound like it is on the inside. So
if you if somebody gave you a hundred bucks and
they said, here, here's a hunter bucks cash, you got
to go to a sports book in Las Vegas right now.
You gotta bet on on one of the one of
these three things. Either Atlanta takes a quarterback, Atlanta takes
a non quarterback, or Atlanta trades the fourth pick. What
are you betting on? M hm yah, I would say
(01:31:47):
the Atlanta Falcons trade out. Yeah, that's where I'm leaning,
And I don't know what they would get in return.
I don't think it's going to be anywhere closed obviously
because it's a pick lower than what San Fran got.
But I think there's gonna be a team that's gonna
move up to that fourth pick. Who's gonna say, oh,
so you guys want mac Jones at three? Will gladly
(01:32:08):
take either Justin Fields or trade Lance whoever is sitting
there for if we feel strongly enough that that's our guy.
Like I I think somebody's gonna move in now. Now
who that is that that makes that jump, whether it
ends up being Denver who doesn't want to take any chances.
I think New England's a wild card. New England could
make a move, Um, Washington, you mentioned Washington, that's a possibility.
(01:32:30):
I just I think Atlanta is gonna have too many
people that are gonna see the top three quarterbacks go
may be surprised at Mac Jones is the third one
off the board with an opportunity to get a Tray
Lance or at Justin Fields. I feel like there's gonna
be a trade and there's gonna be a deal done.
When if it happens on draft day, who the hell knows.
But I think to your point, Atlanta controls the entire draft.
(01:32:51):
It was look, the number three pick was being like,
who are picking at three? Was determining the draft? That
was the mmy Dolphins picking at three. Uh, and then
it was the Jets. But once we've gotten those three
teams lined up, and then who the hell knows If
San Francisco ends up taking a non quarterback, which is
a long shot, now that pick becomes even more valuable
(01:33:13):
because now you've got your selection of three quarterbacks. I just, yeah,
it's gonna be a lot of fun. But I do
agree with you. I think Atlanta controls the entire draft board.
Absolutely is their party. Uh, He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox.
This is Fox Sports Radio. We're gonna take you all
the way up until eight pm Eastern time, five o'clock
Pacific right here on fs ARE. Coming up next, we're
(01:33:34):
going to talk to our NFL analyst. This guy scouts
these quarterbacks, he watches these quarterbacks. He is going to
tell you a sleeper quarterback in the NFL Draft and
we'll have that for you next year. On fs ARE.
He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio.
You can listen to the show on the I Heart
(01:33:54):
Radio app. You can find us on hundreds of Fox
Sports Radio affiliates. Coming up in a little over ten
minutes from now here later on this hour, it is
the In Mid Gutter with David Gascon Extravaganza. He is
all sorts of filled with p and V. As they
would say, David Gascon has got a red ass and
he's going to take it out on somebody and in
(01:34:15):
the Gutter. I've got a feeling, I gotta feel like
that's gonna happen. So before we get to that, let's
get to one of our favorites. He is Bruce Gradkowski,
former NFL quarterback. He's now an analyst for Pro Football Focus.
He joins us every single week Here on FS are
Bruce Jonas and Bucky What's happening at the Gradkowski House
on a Saturday? Oh man? You know, my daughter turns
(01:34:38):
eight on Monday, so she's got like a little girl
sleep over tonight. So guys, I'm uh just having a
little pizza party. Now we get set up with a movie.
My wife's making these like tents over beds. I mean,
it's crazy, guys. I don't know what I got myself
into tonight. You sound you sound worn out already. That's
(01:34:59):
what it sounds like, you know. And I got my
first COVID vaccine last night, So I don't know if
that's playing into a little bit my shoulders sores. Heck, dude,
I didn't realize my store after getting the getting the vaccine.
I don't know if you guys have had it yet.
And I was downing or I was debating. I was
going back and forth if I was going to get
(01:35:19):
it or not. So I did. I got it last night. Um,
but I'm doing okay, guys. I appreciate you thinking about me. Well, listen,
that's that's the least we could do. You always our
main concern as you hide from the family Saturday to
talk a little football with us. Let let me ask
you about the Sam Donald trade to Carolina. Do you
like the matchup and the pairing between Sam Donald uh
(01:35:42):
and what they're currently trying to do under Matt Rule
there with the Panthers. You know I do because I've
been in that situation in Sam Donald's boat where look,
I started eleven games as a rookie, my my next year,
my second year, I backed up Jeff Garcia, and you
could just kind of feel that, you know, we had
six quarterbacks in the QB room, that they're moving in
(01:36:03):
different directions, and I think for young quarterbacks it's important
man to kind of try to build that confidence back up.
And I think for Sam Donald, I mean, we could
look at how they had the least efficient offense, last
year's second lottest grade receiving unit. The defense produced the
seventh world single season coverage grade in the past decade.
So there's a lot more to the the Jets than
(01:36:26):
just Sam Donald. But you know, everything falls back on
the QB. You know, him being a number of number
three overall pickets just out a T. He's supposed to
turn that franchise around. Yet only Trabsky has a little
passing grade over the past three seasons at him, so
you know there's things to work on him to improve on.
But I like Donald as a person. I like him
(01:36:47):
in his work ethic of what he brings to the
locker room. I think matched up with a good offensive
mine and Joe Brady, the weapons they have in Carolina,
this could be good for him. So I'm excited for
him to get this fresh start. Look, it's great for
the Jets to get some draft capital in this trade.
We all know what the Jets are prey gonna do.
So I just thinking and putting myself as Sam Donald choose,
(01:37:10):
I'd be fired up right now to get a fresh,
fresh and clean start. So so Bruce, like, this is
the funny thing, right because I feel like, you know,
like you do it just like I do it. Like
we're optimistic about Sam Donald, And a lot of the
optimism springs from something that we saw maybe three years
ago when he was at SC because based on what
you just said, like his grade, the only one Lord
(01:37:32):
like is Mr Bisky or whatever, like what from his
pro days should we hang onto to be really optimistic
about like, hey, just a new environment, he's going to
turn around. Because I'm having a hard time with that
because I'm like, hey, I like the kid, he works hard. Um,
I like him at SC But why should we be optimistic?
(01:37:54):
That's why? Yeah, exactly, you don't, I mean buy that's
such a great point because I'm one that I I
always want to give players a benefit of doubt, like
because I hope so right, I hope it turns out
from my hope it works out. But you know, on
on the flip side too, I think what I liked
about Donald coming out was, man, he's athletic, he can
extend plays. But what I really didn't realize too, and
(01:38:17):
I realized it more now that stability is is really
how quarterback can playing a clean pocket and in rhythm,
because that's pretty what you're going to get more of.
And that's where Donald also came in last with the
p f F grade of fifty seven point seven passing grade.
So like, I hung my hat on too much of
oh man, Like dude, he's definitely a guy that can
(01:38:40):
extend things when things break down. He could throw on
the run. He's like a point guard. He can attack
the line and dish it out. But then I really
didn't put a lot of weight and shoot. But when
things are all good, is he hitting those open receivers?
Is he being that ackerd He's getting through those reads?
Can you see the field well? And that's my concern
with this next stop is when things are right around him,
(01:39:01):
he's got to execute. And I'm talking about all young quarterbacks,
all quarterbacks in general, when things are right around you,
you gotta be on point, you know. And people could
give the Bears a hard time for getting Andy Dolton,
But man, when things are right around Andie Dolton, he's
gonna make the play. He's gonna hit the open target.
He's gonna be smart, accurate, make the right decisions. So
(01:39:21):
with Sam Donald, that's what I'm intrigued to see because Bucky,
I root for him because I've been in those situations.
I've been where I've been cut, I've been released multiple times.
I've been you know, coming down to the wire if
I was gonna make the team or not. And so man,
I just I'm like, gosh, I want to see you
work out because it's hard to build back that confidence.
(01:39:41):
But at the end of the day, whatever we do
in life our profession, if you don't have confidence in yourself,
no one else will. And it also it doesn't matter
what anyone else thinks you matters what you think of yourself.
I look at my time when I went, you know,
from Tampa to to the Rams to the Browns and
and then the Raiders picked me up. When I started
(01:40:03):
with the Raiders, I thought I was like starting quarterback.
And you know, when I look back now my career path,
I'm like, gosh, man, I didn't realize like I would
really should have been. You know, uh, yeah, it was
very It was closer than I thought, me making the
team and stuff like that. So I just think at
the end of the day, I just young players anyone
out there. You've gotta have confidence in yourself and you
(01:40:25):
gotta find it somewhere. And that's putting the work in.
That's doing it day in and day out. It's not
just gonna come easier and natural. So I hope for
Sam Donald's going to help him with this fresh start.
Bruce Gradkowski joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Former
NFL quarterback now an analyst for Pro Football focused Jonah
snocks Bucky Brooks of the here on FSR. Let me
ask you that, Bruce, because you talk about the confidence
(01:40:45):
and how important that is for Sam Donald and for
young quarterbacks in their second stops of their careers. What
was the time during your career when you doubted yourself
the most? Well, I think I mean the time I
felt most confident, comfortable, or yeah, confident for sure is
when I got drafted to Tampa because I had the
biggest chip on my shoulder for going getting drafted in
(01:41:08):
the sixth round, so I earned my way on the roster.
I was playing lights, I was a young rookie, and
then it was halfway through my rookie season, when I'm
starting seven, eight, nine games in a row, that you
start overthinking things. Now you're worried about what's the what's
John Gruden want me to do? Instead of trusting my preparation,
trusting what I'm seeing on the field, and then you
(01:41:29):
start downing yourself. And I think that was the point
at the end of my rookie year, I lost all
confidence because now I wasn't trusting myself as the instinctual
football player that I am. I was relying on I
don't want to mess up. You know, everyone's looking at me.
Oh my gosh, dude, these guys still believe in me,
Like what's going on, you know, and you can just
(01:41:50):
hear a lot of outside noise. And then when I
got to the Raiders and O nine, it was my
like fourth and fifth year, that's when my I got
that confidence back because I do what I could do.
I knew the offense, I was a smart player, and
I had coaches around me that believed believed in me
as well to give me a second chance. So you know,
I think that's just that's important. You just I I
(01:42:11):
see it too, like just traveling around playing for multiple teams.
You look at Ryan Fitzpatrick, you look at these guys,
Josh McCown. It's not easy, man. You're in a team
for a few years, boom you go to another team.
Now you have to start over and rebuild those connections, relationships.
You have to earn your spot inside that locker room again.
And it's not easy, but it can be done. And
(01:42:32):
I think whoever you are, like in the NFL, right
from Tom Brady, Big Band, Drew Breath two lose has
on the roster, you're everyone's confidence gets shot a time
or two a game or two a player too, and
it's being able to overcome that. And that's what the
great players are able to do. You know. It's it's
funny because you mentioned something that I think is really important, right,
(01:42:54):
So it's it's kind of a two parter um. What
do you see when you evaluate Justin Fields? And if
there is a team out there that falls in love
with Justin Fields, how should they play with him? Yeah?
I mean that that's such a good question, Bucky, because
I am going back and forth all the day. I
watched Justin Fields. I see this big arm, the dudes athletic,
(01:43:18):
he can run, he can make plays. I think of
that Clemson game last week. I went back. I watched
his worst game of the year Northwestern. I watched his
best game Clemson. And after the Northwestern game, I'm like,
I'm not touching this guy. I mean, he's not my guy.
I'm not going to draft him. And then I watched
the Clemson game. I'm like, Boom, he's playing a confidence,
he was in rhythm. He was letting the ball loose,
(01:43:40):
and he was letting the refuse accurate with it. And
I saw two different types of quarterbacks. So I think
fields Is upside is remarkable, and he could be a
guy that really in the running game. If you're designing
these big, explosive players downfield, he can make it happen.
But there's also a plays on film I just can't unsee.
(01:44:00):
I can't unsee some of the inaccuracies, just the uncomfortableness
of throwing a five yard under route when he's scrambling
to his right against Penn State, when he got hit
in the back of the head against Penn State, when
they brought four or strong to the left side and
he was looking right to throw the ball. Now, his
receiver might have busted went a loadle deep on a
(01:44:21):
quick out, but you gotta know and understand protection and
all that, and there could have been a lot more
involved in that protection scenario. But there's a few players
that I kind of doubt it, you know, So then
I always rely back on guys I could trust. I
think Mac Jones, I think I could trust him more.
So it's just it's awesome for this this time of
(01:44:42):
year to evaluate these guys. But I think fields Is
upside is so fun to think about because he's if
he's with an offense that can surround scheme up an
offense for his strength, he could be really good. But
then also, you know, people talk about processing, not so
much process of the thing to make decisions, but the
whole the whole process, as far as I know where
(01:45:04):
I'm going with the football, but the whole motion, the
wind up and the throw, I feel like takes a
little time, and I think in a in a tight
pocket in the NFL that could be tough at times.
Bruce Kratkowski, former NFL quarterback, now an analyst for Pro
Football Focus, joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, Jonas
knocks Bucky Brooks with the Heir Bruce. We've we've spent
(01:45:26):
a lot of time talking about the top five quarterbacks,
so to speak, whether it's Trevor Lawrence, Zack Wilson, Mac Jones,
justin Fields, Trey Lance, whatever order you're looking at. Is
there an under the radar quarterback in this draft that
you've watched that you think has got potential to surprise
some people at the next level? You know? I mean, yeah,
(01:45:46):
I think I like to do that. As Stanford mills um,
I think he's a good quarterback. For some reason, he
kind of reminds of Andrew Luck a little bit. I
don't know, and I didn't study him super in depth
at I like mind, I think the guys a playmaker.
You know, loved what you did with the senior born
in the game. Especially. He has athleticism, he has enough
(01:46:09):
arm Is his accuracy good enough? Um, that's a question.
You know. Kyle Trask, he had an unbelievable year. Now
he's a statue in the pocket. But he can operate
your offense. He could put you in the right position,
he could hit the passes that are there for you.
But I think he's inconsistent ball placement wise underneath. Um,
(01:46:30):
So I look at those guys. I mean that those
are something that I'm kind of like thinking about with
mon Kyle Trash, Davis Mills. You know, those are kind
of my guys I'm thinking about after we talk about
the top five. He is Bruce Gradkowski, former NFL quarterback
now an analyst for Pro Football Focus. You can get
him on Twitter at b Gradkowski five. All right, so, Bruce,
(01:46:53):
what's on the menu? Said? We know you mentioned your
wife is making arrangements for your daughter and happy birthday
to her, but but let's be honest here. What are
you jumping into What are we talking about that? Bruce
Gradkowski's gonna stuff his face with after we get off
the air. What are we doing here? Well, guys, I
had a few pieces of pizza, Hut pizza, So I
think when we're gonna get off, I'm gonna go have
(01:47:14):
a few more pieces. I'm gonna actually really get after
the bread sticks out there, and uh, you know, look,
have some cupcakes as my daughter's birthday, and I'll probably
sit back, walk the movie, have some popcorn and just
get crazy on a Saturday night. So I mean, that's
that's where I'm at. Now, let me ask you. Do
you dip your bread sticks in marin Ea or do
(01:47:35):
you go Ranch? How do you do it? So? You know,
I do the marin Era and I do pizza and Ranch.
That's my way to go interesting. I got exposed that
in Indianapolis that I do that in blue cheese, pizza
and blue cheese. I'm telling you, I prefer blue cheese
(01:47:57):
over Ranch. If you're gonna do it, Ranch is the
one to do it. I'm just saying, all right, Bruce,
we appreciate it. We'll do it again next week. Happy
birthday to the little one and I have a good
time tonight. Hey, thanks guys, and catch up another thing
I eat, catch up on everything, my eggs in the morning.
So wow, how about that a violation? Bruce will do
(01:48:26):
it again soon. Man thet there is Bruce Gradkowski here
on Fox Sport Trading. You're not a catchup guy? Like,
what is what is the big on eggs? Yeah? I
would agree, salt and pepper on eggs. Yeah, I'm not
good with that. Yeah. We need we need, we need
real hot sauce, not like this, you know, soft sauce
(01:48:48):
that he disguises hot sauce. Um, catch up on macaroni
and cheese, like Patrick mahomes or no, no where Patrick
get that from? No? I don't know, but I remember
when I was younger, we had mac and cheese and
one of my siblings did catch him with it, and
I was like, it's not bad, and I know you
probably don't eat these, but I'm gonna ask anyway, what
do you put what condiment do you put on a
(01:49:09):
corn dog? Oh? First of all, okay, first of all,
one of my favorite shows on television is Carnival Eats.
All right, So I love Carnivals and I love carnival food. Alright,
some corn dogs are right up my alley. I the
older I get, the more I enjoy just old school
yellow mustard on a corn dog. Okay, John's we're in
(01:49:30):
the same can we we've been We've been on the
show together for about three years. Like like, yeah, that's
that's the only way, like a little I mean a crunchy,
crispy corn doll mustard. Totally agree. And because here's why,
the breading on the corn dog is already sweet, so
you don't need you don't need the sweet from from
the from the ketchup anymore. You just need the mustard,
(01:49:51):
that little sweet and a little bit of the tang
that goes with the corn dogs. I'm telling you, man, listen,
we we get we get down, we do. You know,
maybe maybe Master is a serving corn docks. Maybe we'll
get some corn docks after after Dave. Maybe we can
get Dave to go to a carnival somewhere and find
us some fried butter something like that, something deep fried
oreos or something like that. Yeah, little little funnel cakes,
(01:50:15):
some Chiro's, yeah, you name it. We got all sorts
of stuff, all right, Bucky Brooks Jonas knocks here Fox
Sports Radio. Coming up next, we are going to go
in the gutter with David Gascon literally but for all
the latest from around the world of sports. Ladies and
gentlemen welcome him in the always happy to be here
gass bad David Gascon, M. How the hell did they
(01:50:37):
know that? I've got Gas Scots coming up? That was
a little sleep of the wheel right now coming up
once he gets done with the Iowa minute, he's checked out.
He couldn't care less, you know, I could take him.
He has not. He confessed this last week when you
weren't around, jon Us. He has never been to Las Vegas.
Oh no, that was two weeks ago. Let's set it
(01:50:59):
on the Yeah, we talked. Thanks for broadcasting that again.
Iowam is what's the problem? Family? My man car gets
her voked to who haven't been to Vegas? Yeah, more
of a nature in woods kind of guy. You can
steal where those wranglers and cowbiry boos in Vegas. In fact,
(01:51:24):
and Bucky, if you go to old town Vegas you
fit right in like like that when I'm standing back.
You don't have the sh Yeah, oh my god, Sam,
when you go to Vegas, when you're walking down for
the first time. The guys that are slapping paper in
their hands to handy you, don't don't take it. Don't
(01:51:44):
take it. Take it and call the number immediately, Sam
and see what they're offering. Okay, see if you can
hackle them down the price, I will. I will take
your word for it and do that eat. That will
really be the aquintessential isle. A minute, there you go
leave it at that next thing, you know, Gertrude shows
up to the door saying, I'm here for your ninety minutes.
(01:52:05):
It's a wild place, just saying things get things get
a little bit wilder. By the way, um, I hate
to digress here, but Bucky, I gotta ask the question,
corn dog or giant soft pretzel. I will go corn dog,
and I like soft for us, but corn dogs corn
dolls is special. And by the way, soft pretzel you
gotta do with nacho cheese and mustard. I'm just saying, oh,
(01:52:27):
I don't know, I've never yeah, just as salted or unsalted.
You know, the older I get, the more like an
unsalted it's too much, too much salt ruins a soft pretzel,
by you, Dave. You guys are giving me good ideas
of what to eat an order while I'm watching Hills
get boat raised by come on watch that down with
(01:52:49):
They'll know a little little forty they'll be what, yeah,
you meat, you VegT. Dave drinking in Old English while Yeah,
that would be great Woodland Hills. Yeah, let's do this. Yeah,
you got you gotta go a little bit more Inland, Dave,
if you want to do that, yeah, I would recommend
(01:53:10):
maybe chats Worth if you want to do you know,
the old English, you know, entertainment capital of the world
in fact, chats Worth. Oh yeah, really yeah, Chatsworth. Yeah,
I mean I knew the valley, but the capital of
the world worth right there if you If you want
the old English to fit in a little bit more day,
(01:53:30):
but don't do it in Woodland Hills, travel Inland and
go to Knoga Park. It will want more sides. It'll
make more sense of that, trust me. Canoga Park is
we're yeah, just you know, it's kind of a kind
of rough and something. Yeah, guys at the Master's Hideckie
Matza Yamas, your leader has done for the day. He's
(01:53:50):
at minus eleven. He shot sixty five and round number
three four Strokes in front of second place Major League
Baseball handful of games right now. Parts of the Kubbes
seven oh one reads Socks and Orioles at to two.
What the delay right now in Toronto? The Blue Jays
and the Angels, Phillies and Braves Philadelphia leads to nothing
at the end of happening of play Thanks Dave Jonah
(01:54:12):
Snocks Bucky Brooks. Here on Fox Sports Radio, we are
going to have in the Gutter with David Gascon coming
up next. I do want to mention this, Bucky. You
were talking about some of the old school wrestlers you
grew up watching in the South. You mentioned Wahoo McDaniel,
he played for the Dolphins. Yeah, he's a football player.
I had no idea so Waho McDaniel was It was
a football player. Also, another guy mentioned Ron Simmons. Uh
(01:54:36):
All American, the All American Ron Simmons. He was a
damn good football player, right Florida. Yeah, Burt Reynolds was
a legendarya of Florida state football player if I'm not mistaken. Yeah,
he's spot in those uniforms. By the way, talk about
a resume, Burt Reynolds. Oh yeah, I mean, hey, man,
(01:54:56):
he might have a few pills on the wall, not
like not like anybody's counting, but no, no, not at all.
But bad resumes. It is very very popular, very pot
Let's just put it this way, um it probably the
role he had in Boogie Nights probably wasn't that much.
It's all he had to He had to go out
(01:55:17):
of character much for that role. Alright, Bucky Brooks, Jonas
Knocks here Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next. We're going
in the gutter, literally in the gutter of sports talk radio,
and it's yours next here n fs ARE. Get your
mind out of the gunner. He's Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knocks.
This is Fox Sports Radio. You can listen to this
(01:55:37):
show as always on the I Heart Radio app coming
up in about fifteen minutes from now here on fs ARE,
it is Brian no and E from salam who will
be taking over the airwaves here on Fox Sports Radio.
That have all sorts of draft rumblings in the NFL.
We've got NBA action, we got Major League Baseball, we
got the Masters, we got WrestleMania. You name it. It's
(01:55:59):
a ornacopeia, a pinata. If you will have sports so
hang out with those guys. Always a fun listen coming
up here fifteen minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio.
Right now, it is time for something we do on
the show, and it's called this the Best Stories. I
got a news flash. It's in the gutter with David
(01:56:22):
Gagan and for that we turn it over to the
great David Gascon to find out what the hell is
going on? Dave again, you know what, man, you you
know it's my job to help resuscitate this show after
(01:56:45):
a rather turbulent start and the conclusion to it because
of a guy from Iola. But we'll start things off
in the National Football League. Guys that a Houston Chronicle
is actually part of ways with one of their NFL reporters,
Aaron Wilson. Um. Did you check out what he did
a few weeks ago? Yeah, you know, it's I've heard
that it's never a good idea to victim shame. No, yeah,
(01:57:08):
I've heard that's usually not the good, good path to take.
Spray and pray. He did so on a radio show.
He actually said, uh during this interview that he says,
quote in this case, you know, it's kind of like
you don't negotiate with terrorists people are demanding money, They're
asking for money. It kept escalanty, it kept going up
and up and up. You're talking about more and more funds.
I'm not gonna say how much. But my understanding is,
(01:57:29):
you know, there was an admission that it was, you
know something, you just know what it was. Isn't situating
something else between Deshaun Watson and one or more masseuses? Yeah, well,
look um his and I've read a little bit on this,
and and he's actually been on Fox Sports Radio several
times before, and he's he's a good reporter. He does
a good job. But the problem was I think the
(01:57:52):
comparison to you don't negotiate with terrorists when you've got
you know, twenty something women that have come out and
said and they're all similar in nature here as far
as how this stuff went down. Not saying that that
it's all true or whatever, but this is just the reporting.
But it's exactly why you gotta wait and see on
this stuff, like you can't. You can't just assume that
one side is right and one side is wrong until
(01:58:13):
you have all the information. But I think part of
his issue and the reason why he was so adamant
in defending Deshaun Watson is because he thought he knew
Deshaun Watson. He thinks he has a good understanding of
who the guy is as a person, and Bucky, I've
never heard anything bad about Deshaun Watson. I think there's
a lot of people that have really been sort of
either shook or taken back by the allegations that if
(01:58:35):
it turns out there true, there's gonna be a lot
of people that were dead wrong about Deshaun Watson for
a long time. Yeah, I mean it's Look, it's deep Israel,
just all of the stuff, and it seems like he
gets worse on a daily And do you think he's
he's he ever going to go back to how I
think I think this is going to stay with him forever.
(01:58:57):
It will I think the look, I can't say to
the same degree, but I would say, look, we've we've
seen Roethlisberger, We've seen Kobe, We've seen people move beyond
or whatever. Like, I think, whatever the narrative has written,
it will certainly be included in the would be a
chapter in the book, but certainly he has an opportunity
to rewrite the narrative based on what happens going for well,
(01:59:18):
speaking of rewriting, this guy needs to rewrite something. How
about this guy's a Spanish rapper is actually accused of
hacking off his roommates. Stick shift guys, that's right. A
twelve in kitchen knife was part of a brutal attempt
for these two guys to get attention on social media.
The two guys obviously your friends, and they actually agree.
(01:59:42):
They agreed on a fee depending on how many times
the video would be shared on YouTube, between two hundred
and forty dollars and a maximum of three thousand dollars
if it was shown on YouTube. A Spanish rapper chopping
off his roommates. Wait, hold on a segment, so he
willingly with this. Yes, the accused, who sat on a
(02:00:06):
chair in front of him. This is a quote. So
the accused was sat on a chair in front of him,
cut his crank off with a twelve inch kitchen knife,
which was never found because the accused got rid of it.
I uh, look, I got a lot of I got
some friends that I think are really good friends. This
(02:00:27):
has never been a discussion. You never had, you know
where it has. Yeah, there's a certain there's a certain
blow hard Monday through Friday here overnight A lot of
his ball washers do that. The host that works here
eleven to three o'clock his his sickle fans and lap dogs,
and the guys that foam at the mouth. You know
(02:00:48):
that they do this. When you speak ill of Ben Mallory,
you're speaking ill of Buckey's golf partner. So you need
to be careful. Gas on straight out of that, guys.
How about this um more local? Here a fifty one
year old man who actually legally smoked marijuana in Las
(02:01:09):
Vegas flew to Dubai for a business trip and then
had to go to the hospital because of pancreati. When
do you have pacreotis? Pancreatis pacreati, um, guys, he had
to go to the hospital. He was rushed to the hospital.
The nurses actually took a yearine sample because they had
(02:01:30):
to when they were when he was going through surgery.
They found traces of the marijuana and had to report
it to the law enforcement officers that were close by,
and as a result, the police came in, arrested him
and jailed him for three days, and now he was
waiting prosecution as they filed charges against him. Wow. Well listen, um,
(02:01:52):
there was zeroad talents policy on drugs obviously. Well look,
I mean, you know, it's always a dicey proposition when
you have one last one before you leave the house,
you know, because because it depends on where you end up.
And and clearly ended up in a bad spot. But look,
there's been worse examples of people that go to other
places on something and they didn't get popped for it,
and then next thing you know, they got all sorts
(02:02:13):
of problems. Can you give us an example, Uh? Not
without getting fired. Let's go alive. So I've been incarcerated
for multiple days. I was Sam for the Comely Sam.
Sam's had a good show. Here needs that needs to
be let go. That's the best part
