Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. Welcome in every ruddy, Fox
Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday Saturday of college football. We
are in the throes of a really fun one. We're
gonna discuss all of it. Ohio State. I don't know
if they really survived at Penn State, but they win.
Tennessee is rolling, as the Sacre just told you, and

(00:23):
potentially taking another loss at home, and Michigan looking okay
but not great against their rival Michigan State. We are
broadcasting line from the tirect dot com studios. Direct dot
com will help you get there and unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers. Direct dot com the way tire buying should

(00:47):
be artorist Jason Martin. Obviously, the other thing I should
keep you updated on, as the Sacre just told you,
the Astros up five nothing, top of the six against
the Philadelphia Phillies, Game two of the World Series. Philly
up one nothing after a game one went on Friday night.
Jason Martin, my man, how you doing. How's everything going,
How's life? How's everything? Well? That's pretty good. I mean

(01:08):
it's football season, right, we got stuff to talk about
happening tomorrow. We've got stuff that's happened all day, things
that are happening right in front of us right now.
There's some stories we'd rather not have to talk about
that we certainly will get into. There's just a whole
lot going on Halloween and a couple of days. Apparently
there's a cat costume for my daughter in the house.
I don't know what things. Things just materialize in this

(01:33):
house at this point. Almost all of them are outfits
way too small for me or my wife. At this point,
it's just like, okay, this is this is just kind
of the world in which we live right now. But
that's okay. That's why it should be. I guess, you know,
I don't want to compare one to the other. But
you have a young child and I have a young dog,
and yeah no. My wife just says, oh, yeah no,
we we got this, this, this, and this, and I'm like, okay,
cool if I mean, if you think the dog needs it.

(01:55):
I mean, I've had dogs my whole life. Usually just
give them food and you know, one place to sleep,
and they're fine. But you know, apparently not in two
So it sounds like very much the same with your
daughter as Halloween approached. First Halloween or second Halloween, I
forget second, but I mean she's I mean, she was
like five six months old at that point in time.
She's we're not doing the trick or treating thing or

(02:15):
anything this year, but she's at least cognizant of things,
and she decided cookies are good, so good. So it's
very possible that she will eat some kind of candy
on Monday. Fantastic. Well, it is, of course, the Saturday
before Halloween, Halloween coming up, and a lot what that
means is it's, as Jason just said, college football is

(02:36):
ramping up, really, you know, significantly, and so too is
uh so too is the NFL. We'll get to the
NFL later. I want to start, Jason, you know with
uh actually a game that's going on right now, because
you know, I think it's been a really fun college
football season. Michigan, by the way, scored again. They're up
nineteen seven on Michigan State. But it's been a really
fun college football season. Um. But I you know, I

(02:59):
think most sentiment seems to be there's probably about five
six really good teams at the top. Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio State,
Michigan Alabama even with one loss. Here's my question, and
you're somebody that's very adamant that we shouldn't be doing
polls until the middle of the season. Why like, like
we have this debate of is there a great team?

(03:20):
Is one team clearly better than the other? Can I
just make the argument that Tennessee is just like significantly
better than everybody else. They're up thirty seven six on
Kentucky in the fourth quarter. Go ahead, Jason, the floors here,
because we we keep saying, oh, it's a wide open year.
This will be Tennessee's fifth win against the team that
was ranked when they played them, and they are destroying,

(03:42):
you know, not a great Kentucky team, but a good
Kentucky team. And that was kind of my thought as
I was watching this game in the lead up to
our show. Jason, Yeah, look that I've said now for
a couple of weeks, there would be number one on
my ballot. Now I know what Georgia did to Oregon,
and Oregon continues to look the part since that game,
and of course Tennessee and Georgia are gonna square off

(04:02):
in the game of the Year in college football. But
what Tennessee had accomplished with the ranked wins that you mentioned.
And here's the number nineteen team Kentucky that just can't
do anything. I mean, Will Levis is a top ten
draft pick or whatever, and he's fourteen and twenty five
for ninety yards, three interceptions, no touchdowns, like and he's
rushed for negative eighteen yards, so he has been responsible

(04:25):
for seventy two yards against Tennessee's defense, which is not
supposed to be obviously the strength of that football team,
but with what they've done, if there were no polls,
I feel like they would be number one, But because
they started outside the top twenty five, they have a
hurdle to climb. That in Ohio state doesn't, that a

(04:46):
Georgia doesn't, that in Alabama didn't until Tennessee had to
beat Alabama in order to earn that number that Alabama
already had from doing what beating Texas and beating Texas
A and M. Like, that's my issue with it is
if we don't have the preseason polls, then everything that
gets voted upon is based on what we're actually watching

(05:09):
on the field as opposed to what we think is
going to happen. Because man, I don't know about you,
but a lot of times in sports, it seems like
when things are supposed to happen, they often don't, oh
a thousand percent. And I mean, you can even take
this Tennessee team. Is you know you you look at something,
you me you produce a bowl were texting about earlier

(05:30):
in the day. Is that, Um, this Tennessee team. Um,
you know, I think going back to like the Florida
game about five six weeks ago, now, that was the
game where okay, like if you're legit, you do it.
And even the Alabama game, I don't think any I
think people thought it could happen, but it was kind
of a believe it when we see it. But I
bring it up because you said, um, the idea that

(05:50):
when you least expect things, that's when it happens. And
that's what's so impressive to me about this Tennessee team
is they play right now as if they've been this
team for ten years. And what I mean by that is,
you know, you go back to the Alabama win. It's
this incredible win, incredible moment in time for you know,
an entire generation of fans and certainly the players that
have been through so much in a relatively new coaching staff.

(06:14):
The next few weeks or when you're supposed to have
that letdown, right of like, uh, you know, you just
beat Alabama. The next week you play uh an FCS team,
you see you team Martin and yeah, you're gonna win
that game. But you know, history tells us as college
football fans that there's probably a letdown. Uh, you probably
win a sloppy one and you pull away late. They

(06:34):
put up fifty two points in the first half and
steam roll and then again this Kentucky game. For I
know you live in the area, but for people don't know,
you know, border states don't like each other. Uh, Kentucky. Listen,
week we can talk about will Levis in a second,
because I don't see number one overall pick in the
draft either. But you know, tough team that they're the one. Okay,
they're gonna try to control the line of scriptage to

(06:55):
keep a low scoring Nope, you just go up and
down the field. You know what, By the way, your
defense is getting better. So that's what's impressive to me
is is the element that like I knew they were good,
and I knew they were good enough even to beat
Alabama to go back to three weeks ago. But it's
how they've handled themselves since which continues to impress me. Jayson. Yeah,
they they look like they actually think that they're this good. Yeah,

(07:18):
they're not just lucky. It's not just flukey. They had
the challenge. Look, Pitch challenged him, and Florida made that
comeback but was unable to finish it. We saw that,
we saw Georgia kind of not show up with their
best against Missouri. But this is a team that scored
this season thirty four st two sixty five and now

(07:39):
just drubbing another top twenty opponent, approaching forty points again, Like,
this is a really good football team. And next week
it's Georgia Tennessee. And what was amazing to me last
week when we talked to Bernie Fratto was him saying
that he had he had checked on it, and the
books opened that game at fourteen and a half. I

(08:00):
was baffled. It was just like, I don't think there
is a defense in the country that can make a
team two touchdowns better than Tennessee's offense. That's why I
said I would hammer Tennessee immediately if I was a
gambling guy like I would run, not try through a
sports book to lay down money on Tennessee on that

(08:20):
because I'm sure that number is gonna come down. But
this Georgia team is not as good to me as
the one last year, and they have not seen an
offense anywhere close to what Josh Hypel has done. And
one other point, you know how many national championships Bob
Stoops won without Josh Hypel well as his quarterback? Yeah,
that was the only time he want yeah, yeah, yeah,

(08:43):
his only national champion a team was Josh Hypel's quarterback.
Hype kind of knows what he's doing. Like if he
comes through in his second year with what he's doing,
look at what he's doing and what Jennibo Fisher is
doing five years in and you're looking at Pittman has
done a pretty good job at Arkansas Shane Biemer, and
he's set ups and downs, but he looks like he

(09:04):
could be there for a while. Potentially South Carolina Kelly, Brian, Yeah,
it's absolutely Brian. Kelly's another y year one, right, But
Hypel didn't come in with hype, He didn't come in
with any of that. For this, this reminds me of Clemson.
This reminds me of Dabbo coming in with almost no fanfare.

(09:25):
It was just like, really, that's that's what Clemson's gonna do,
and then you saw what happened from there. Sometimes you
just get the right guy. And if Danny White looked
into it because he liked him at Central Florida and
a bunch of bigger names weren't gonna take that job
with the sanctions, then maybe he is blessed in disguise,
because I bet you if you pulled a bunch of
people in Norman right now, they would love to have

(09:45):
their old UH national championship quarterback from the turn of
the century on their sidelines instead of looking up at
a conference they're about to join and seeing him on
the opposing sideline looking like he's building a juggernaut. Well,
the irony there. We had plank on a few weeks
ago and Chris Blank mentioned like Josh Hypel, like like
Lincoln Riley is who Lincoln Riley is? Because Oklahoma fired

(10:07):
Josh Hypel, uh and they hired Lincoln Riley. And I
don't I'm not smart enough to know the xs and
os of what Josh Hypel was doing and what he's
changed since. But this is a revolutionary offense. And I'll
add this to Jason is I thought early on UM,
after the Alabama win, I think we all heard the
comparisons of the LSU team from about three or four

(10:28):
years ago, where you know, Joe Burrow comes seemingly out
of nowhere, the offense just clicks, and then they just
roll to a national championship. I didn't, I know for
certain that I did not believe that narrative. I thought, Okay,
this is a great team, a great story, and and maybe,
you know, maybe maybe things work out, but they still
got to get through Georgia. If they get through Georgia,

(10:49):
they'll have to get through Bama again. But you look
again at how they're handling themselves. Um, you know, with
with expectations, it's one thing, um, where nobody's really quite sure.
If you beat Florida, then you beat Florida. It's one
thing if yeah, we can see the scenario where you
beat Bama and then you beat Bama, but you had
to prove it. It's another thing where you come in

(11:11):
against Kentucky again. And I'm not claiming Kentucky is Bama,
Georgia whoever. But at the same time, top twenty team,
you're about a two touchdown favorite, and you just it's
not even competitive. I think it was twenty eight to six.
And that's the part, like, you know, I don't I
didn't believe all. You know, I'm always hesitant when when
a narrative kind of pops to kind of just sit

(11:33):
there and say, okay, like this is how it is,
this is how it's gonna be. But I'm starting to
see those parallels where I think Henning Hooker is gonna
win the highsm Trophy. You know, I know you want
to get to Levis in a minute, but I think
Hennon Hooker is another guy where I don't know if
he's gonna go number one overall. I think he's gone
from completely off draft boards. I don't know how you
can't draft him with his accuracy, his poise, his whatever.

(11:55):
Um somebody's taken him in the first round. The defense
is improving in large part because you know, the offense
really kind of helps them out. I do see those
parallels between that LSU team from about three or four
years ago, and I don't know that I would have
believed that even to three weeks ago at the same time,
you know who Levis reminds me of right now, Sam Howell, Sure,
I mean there's there's y Yeah, there is, but the

(12:18):
hype that starts before the season, not the all of
a sudden, out of nowhere hype where somebody emerges during
the year. Levis was talked about before the year the
same way Sam Howe was, and then Sam how kind
of fell off the map. Now I don't necessarily think
Levis is going to do that, but against anybody good,
he's almost never good. And as I said, either every

(12:39):
draft goot is totally wrong or they have the worst
set of skill talent. At the end, they're still Kentucky
in the country. And I don't believe that they do.
I don't, I mean love us. At times you see
him make throws were just wow, it's very impressive, But
I mean he didn't He don't even have a hundred
yards in this game against Tennessee. This is I have

(12:59):
not seen him make them better when he has to,
when no one else is there, Like he's certainly not
one of those type of guys. Again, I would love
to see him be good. I mean, I want to
see as many good quarterbacks as we can have it
looks like a few are about to be put out
to pasture in the NFL, which we'll get to later on.
But that's just here it is. Yeah, I know, but

(13:20):
here again, Levis is just kind of it's a hype machine,
but there's nothing to back it up. There's there's nothing whatsoever.
I mean, it's a thirty seven to six game that
feels like it could be seventy seven to six. Tell
you what I have a thought on Will Levis. We're
gonna come back. We're gonna discuss that Tennessee number three
team in the country, up thirty seven to six against Kentucky. Levis.

(13:41):
Of course, I think everybody listening as a football fan
enough to know that the the NFL draft experts are
projecting him at the top of the NFL draft is
a potential number one overall pick. We'll come back discuss
that next. I should mention, By the way, this is

Jason Martin here on a Saturday night, come back, react
to the rest of the day in college football, and
I do share that thought on will Levisports Smoky that
the Tennessee mascot is cold on the sidelines. They're in

(14:24):
a big blanket. Yeah, it happens, but I bet that
blanket is worth more than anything else in Knoxville. Like that.
We saw the old shots of Uga in the hotel room,
and his hotel room is nicer than any hotel room
I've ever stayed in in my life. These mascots, man
Smokey is important. When he gets cold, you put a
blanket on him as fastest humanly possible. I'll tell you what,
Jason Smokey may be cold. This Tennessee offense. Oh baby,

(14:48):
Tennessee scores again forty three to six extra point pending.

Sports Radio eritorist Jason Martin here on a Halloween weekend
Tennessee in those Halloween uniforms is destroying Kentucky forty four

(15:53):
to six. Worth noting, by the way, Michigan starting to
pull away from Michigan State up twenty nine to seven,
USC up already five to twenty nine at Arizona, and
old Miss Jason uh is putting on Texas and fourteen.
I have something funny on the Texas A and M
front that I'll share with you in a minute, but
I want to get back to the conversation we're having

(16:13):
so Tennessee, number three team in the countries, up four
six on Kentucky. And you know, it's it's great to
talk about it from the Tennessee perspective, but I do
want to talk about it from the Kentucky perspective as well,
because we obviously talk a lot of NFL, all the
guys and girls on these air waves do throughout the week.
And Will Levis, the Kentucky quarterback, is by some projected
to be the top player in the draft. And this

(16:35):
is something you and I have been on for for weeks,
if not months now, is we haven't seen anything from
him to make us feel like he is worthy of
that on the season, even prior to today coming into
the game, and he has battled with some injuries, but uh,
we're talking about a guy that was completing I guess
sixty six percent of his passes are so thirteen touchdowns,
five interceptions. But he watched the games that that really matter,

(16:58):
struggled against Florida even though they want, and struggle against
Old Miss and a loss. Is not playing well today
with three interceptions. And I had a thought when I
was watching the game, Jason is, I think it's interesting
to me and I don't mean to to nerd out
on a fringe top twenty team here on a busy
night where we have a lot of stuff to get to.
But I thought Mark Stoops, the head coach at Kentucky,
called kind of a pretty conservative vanilla game plan, and

(17:22):
I think part of it is the idea that, um,
you know, you're playing the number one offense in college football,
the best way to stop him is to keep him
off the field. But this does feel like the game
where if you have the number one quarterback in college
football on your roster, you gotta let him lose because
you're going up against the number one offense in college football.
And so to me, the fact that Kentucky didn't, I

(17:46):
don't know if it speaks to the fact that they
know that he's not that good or or what. I
don't know exactly what to make of it, but I
I do think this would have been the time if
you really believe in this guy in his abilities. And
by the way, they're still running the ball there out
let me believe. Put it this way, they're down by
what thirty eight points with four minutes left. Either let

(18:08):
him throw the ball or take him out of the game.
So I I it feels to me like maybe the
Kentucky staff knows what you. I think that whoever is
evaluating these guys is way off because they are not
They did not call a game, nor do they generally
in big games call games that appear to feature a
guy that looks like a number one pick in the draft.

(18:30):
I mean, I think there's something to that. I do
think they know their skill talent is not great. Um
Driguez is a nice back. They have a couple of
nice pieces, but they don't have dynamic dudes out there,
and maybe Levis is not going to be good enough
to pull them up. But if you look at what
he has done this year. Now, he missed the South
Carolina game with the injury, and they lost that game,

(18:52):
and they lost to Ole Miss in a close one nineteen.
But this is a guy who has only thrown thirty
passes twice this season. He's throwing twice twenty six. His
yardage totals outside of Miami, of Ohio where he was
three hundred three yards, Northern Illinois where he was three
hundred three yards, and Youngstown State where he was three

(19:13):
hundred seventy seven yards, it's two twenty that's against Mississippi State,
Ole Miss, and Florida tonight, he doesn't have a hundred
yards passing. So what do those two things tell you? What?
They tell you that in the conference where football is king,
he is relentlessly mediocre. And then when he plays against

(19:36):
the MAC or some of these smaller schools, he's able
to stat pad up. But he's only got sixteen hundred
yards passing on the season, thirteen touchdowns, five interceptions entering
the game. That will become thirteen and eight after this
game right now. So maybe he just maybe they just
think he's the part, and he's you know, it's not
like Josh Allen lit it up at Wyoming in terms

(19:58):
of what he was gonna do. But maybe that's it's
just we know what he's aid, what he is in
terms of talent. He's six three, he's got an incredible
football like you, and these are all things I've heard
about him. But he certainly is not enough to pull
Kentucky's offense out of a gutter. There's still a defensive
minded football team, which shows you again just how good

(20:19):
Tennessee's offense actually is. But Levice is not responsible to
me for much of anything. That they do. Like, if
their defense doesn't hold teams, they're not going to be
able to beat virtually anybody that's good. And that, to
me is an indictment on your quarterback because he's he's
not gonna be able to overcome the other deficiencies on

(20:40):
the team. Well, where is he likely to get drafted?
If he's going in the top five or the top ten,
A team with a bad offensive line, nowhere near as
much skill talent as exists elsewhere, all of it, and
just probably bad ownership, run badly coaching, change coordinator, change,
scheme change, all of that kind of stuff. I would

(21:01):
be very very leery of Will Levis not turning into
the next Josh Rosen. Yeah, I mean fill in the blank,
Josh Rosen whoever. And it's just you know, part of it.
To Jason, I truly believe this is. I do think
some of the draft evaluation stuff is. I do think
it's one of those things where somebody everybody just wants

(21:22):
to be first, right, Like it's not like I and
I don't want to do like the cliche, like it's
all about the clicks and like all that. But like
saying Bryce Young and c J. Stroud, too great quarterbacks
who were too great recruits playing it two great programs
that are coming off two great seasons. It's not gonna
move the needle to say, you know, I think Bryce
Young is probably the best quarterback in college football and

(21:44):
going to be the number one pick in the draft.
Now you say it about and I don't. I don't
necessarily think that anybody who does this for a living
is making stuff up. But that is one thing that
I've noticed through the years about the NFL and NBA,
frankly draft evaluation stuff as well, is everybody wants to
be first on stuff, and then at the same time,
everybody's hesitant on the back end to be the first

(22:05):
one to change things. So like, I don't know where
Hendon Hooker is now, but I guarantee wherever he is
in all these mock drafts, he's gonna get drafted much
higher on game day. And so to me, that's what
I've been saying with Will Levis since the summer, is like,
you know, like you said, we're not running against him,
We're not saying he's a bad kid. I'm just saying
it felt like somebody wanted to make a headline be bold.
I'm the first one. I said it back in August.

(22:27):
This guy is gonna be the number one pick. I
just I don't see it. And to your point, uh,
if he is that guy, he should be elevating Kentucky
on a night like tonight. If if if it's you
can't just blame it solely on the coaching staff. And
then on top of that, he's gonna have to elevate
whatever lousy franchise he goes to if he goes in
the top five, top ten, which I'll be honest, as

(22:48):
this season goes on, I feel like it's increasingly less
likely that that happened. Yeah, I mean we've seen through
the years. No examples are coming directly to mind right
now in the moment, but where you know the team's
not good, but the quarterback is good and you can
tell like you can see like he's he's giving them
a shot to put ten more points on the board
the otherwise wouldn't or something like that. I've never felt

(23:11):
that way watching Will Lovis. There's nothing about him where
I'm just like, man, he's gonna make them much better
than they otherwise would be. That's again, we could all
be wrong here, but He's not in Bryce Young's class.
He's not in c. J. Strouds class. I'm watching unpacked
to all of the network. He's definitely not in Kyle
Williams class. Kyl Williams right now is four yards passing,

(23:32):
five touchdowns, no interceptions against Arizona, and you're looking at Tennessee,
whose defense is still they it could be there. Achilles
heel and let us can't do anything against him. Hasn't
been able to do virtually much of anything. I think
he has not had more touchdowns than interceptions against any
SEC opponent he has played this year. If I looked

(23:53):
at that stat right, yeah, he had one touchdown, one
interception against Mississippi State. He had one touchdown one inners
option against Florida, Okay Miss Okay miss he had two
touchdowns note picks. So that was a good game. He
was sacked three times in that game. But I just
don't see this dynamic contributor. And if he comes out
and wows in the NFL, awesome, But it wouldn't wouldn't

(24:17):
be me drafting him. I can tell you that not
not If it was a top ten pick or anything
like that, well then it just becomes a Wow, Mark
Stoops wasted that guy's talent. And again it speaks to
kind of what I said today is that you know
you're you're on the field, you're visiting a top five
team that is a rival to some degree. Uh, this
is the night you let him loose and you let
him show what he is capable of, and maybe he's

(24:37):
not capable of that put you go down swinging. I
was disappointed not only Will Levis, but I was disappointing
the coaching staff that you know, basically, yeah, he threw
three picks, but a couple of them more on third
and long when you're trying to run the ball, and
it's just like, I'm sorry, you gotta be more creative,
more whatever. Fox Sports Radio eritoris Jason Martin. Coming up.
We will continue with another one of our favorite topics. Jason,
Just very quickly, I want to read you a text

(24:58):
I just got from Kyle Field, Texas A and M,
which is trailing a top fifteen opponent as we speak.
We'll discuss that next, as well as a busy week
at A and M. Before we do, though, first time
this evening, Steve de Seger, what's trending? My friend? Hello? Gentlemen,
so good to hear you once again. And while you
were talking about that Kentucky quarterback, it did remind me
of a Kentucky quarterback from over a decade ago. What

(25:19):
I was hearing people say this, Andre Woodson is incredible.
He could be drafted in the top ten. This is
forty touchdown passes. Kentucky's winning bowl games these days. I
looked it up. He was drafted in the sixth round,
and I don't ever remember him playing quarterback. Every year
there's a few of them. I mean, I remember, I
don't want to cut you off the Siger, but I
remember one year it was Bryce Petty, remember Bright, you

(25:40):
know Bryce Petty. I mean you know, I mean, look
at what and end up going like hell Moore third fourth.
There's always guys like this and and I you know,
the guys that cover the draft work hard. But I
do think sometimes it's I want to be first, I
want to be interesting. There's nothing interesting in saying Bryce
Young is the best quarterback in college football. But like
you watch Levis compared to forget Bryce Young and CJ. Stroud,

(26:02):
just Henn and Hooker, the guys playing tonight, it's night
and day it's not even close. By the way. The
Kellen Moore reference his old team boys. The state was
on FS one and they have won over Colorado State.
Boise State still undefeated in the Mountain West and Coastal
Carolina is trying to go to seven and one. They
are leading late about a minute ago at Marshall. It
is now final at third ranked Tennessee Vall's stomp Kentucky

(26:27):
forty four to six. Kentucky was ranked nineteen and the
a PEO pole this week. The first college football playoff
rankings come out Tuesday night will levis O. The Wildcats
finishes with no touchdown passes, three interceptions, just nine yards
through the air. Hendon Hooker with three touchdown passes and
one touchdown run. Tennessee undefeated. Next Saturday, Georgia host Tennessee.

(26:51):
Number one Georgia in Jacksonville today beat Florida forty two
to twenty. Among the other games in progress in college football,
whell the late games about to start. Number twelve U
c l A hosting Stanford. It is number ten USC
leading forty five twenty nine at Arizona with about two
minutes to go. Caleb Williams with five touchdown passes Number
four Michigan pulling away from Michigan State twenty nine to

(27:15):
seven with under eleven minutes left in that game. On
the ground, Blake Corum of the Wolverines twenty six carries
a hundred forty five yards and one touchdown At Texas
A and M fifteenth ranked Old Miss Is leading and
holding on to a lead of one now over the
Eggs under nine minutes left. Pitt Is still leading at
number twenty one North Carolina one late in the third quarter.

(27:38):
Wins in the top ten today for TCU, for Oregon,
and for Louisville. That Oregon win and their ranked eighth
was twenty one at cal Bow, Knicks had all six
touchdowns the Ducks quarterback three rushing, three passing he's already
up to in the first eight games of the season
over twenty touchdown passes. He's hit ten touchdown runs. To

(27:59):
have those two through the first eight games, that's an
elite list. In the last twenty years of college football,
guys like Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts have had starts
like that in the rushing and the passing. And then
there was Kansas State number twenty two ranked this week,
shutting out number nine Oklahoma State forty eight nothing. It
was thirty five zip at the half. It's Case State's

(28:20):
largest win ever against the top ten team. For Oklahoma State,
it's worst loss in about twenty years. We did have
number two Ohio State on Fox TV today and pulling
away for a win at Penn State forty four to
thirty one. Louis Bille beat co number ten Wake Force
twenty one. Is Wake committed eight turnovers. Notre Dame one
at Syracuse. Central Florida scored late to beat Cincinnati and

(28:43):
Missouri one at South Carolina Miami one in four overtimes
fourteen to twelve at Virginia, the Canes kicked a short
field goal at the end of regulation to tie at
six six. In other words, in a four overtime game.
There were no touchdowns in the game, but University of
Connecticut was a victor once again. I actually saw that

(29:06):
score and and I actually somewhat cared. I went over
p five since Baby beat Boston College, a two and
six team. But Yukon did have the long touchdown pass
in the opening minutes, and it turned out to be
the only touchdown of the game. BC with five defense
Connecticut's final three games against U Mass Liberty and Army.

(29:28):
Just for the record, Game two of the World Series
going on on Fox TV, and we had another five
run lead for Houston. Looks like they're gonna hold it tonight.
It's the bottom of the seventh Houston five one over
Philadelphia from ber Valdez, the Stros starting pitcher at nine
strikeouts in his six and a third innings. Starting pitcher
for the Phillies, Zach Wheeler, allowed three straight doubles to

(29:49):
start the night. In fact, this is the third time
this season the Astros have started a game with three
extra base hits, and they did so against the Phillies
late in the regular season. That was against Ranger Suarez. Tonight,
against Wheeler, who allowed the five runs in five innings,
he gave up two run homer to Alex Bregman in
the bottom of the fifth. Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill is
out for Sunday at Houston due to illness as well

(30:10):
as an ankle injury and in the NBA, and the
Milwaukee Bucks are now five and oh after beating Atlanta
Golden State three and three. They lost it overtime at
Charlotte Brooklyn nets one and five after losing it home
to Indiana. Sacramento had been owned four, but they beat
Miami one thirteen the Miami Heat two and five. Back

(30:31):
to you, thanks Steve Sager, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday,
Aaron Torres, Jason Martin. Here in the tire rack dot
Com studios. Sayer just gotch caught up on the old
Miss Texas A and M game ole Miss top fifteen
team in the country, up thirty to twenty one on
A and M extra point pending. Jayson, We've talked a
lot about A and M last few weeks. I just
want to read you a text I got from a

(30:51):
buddy who is at the game at Kyle Field. He
is a Texas A and M FIM. This is an
exact quote. It says, I hate life. We suck so
bad with the fourth most talented roster. Only Texas A
and M could manage this level of suck with this
much talent. Frowning face. Gig him forever though, thumbs up,
thumbs up, thumbs up. I just thought it was like

(31:12):
the most quintessential this is life as a Texas A
and M fan right now, we don't have spent too
much time on this game. There there's a lot of
other stuff that's happened throughout the day, Jason. But uh,
if that isn't the state of a Texas A and
M fan right now, I don't know what is, Jay No.
I mean, it's right. They're die hard as this should be.
I mean, that's your team, that's your team. You gotta

(31:33):
ride with them when they're rolling. You gotta ride with them.
And they're not. But Jimbo, he's gonna have to start
showing results at some point. Problem is these stupid buyouts
that these universities are handing these coaches make it so
you have to cut him a check for eighty plus
million dollars if you wanted to get rid of him
in the off season, so he will be back next year.

(31:56):
Next year, he better do something, though, I don't need
to hear the all. They're young and you gotta give
him time. And this is year five. And when I
see Josh Hypell do with Josh Hypel's doing in Tennessee,
everybody Texas A and M needs to take no to
that and just say wait, what, why didn't we get that?
I mean, this dude won a national championship at Florida State,
and he comes in the SEC and he is the
very height of average at best. And they're looking right

(32:19):
down to barrel at being three and five at the
end of this night with three quarterbacks. I don't know
if any of them could play. They've dealt with injuries,
but so is everybody else. Jimbo has been belligerent. Jimbo
may have to give up play calling. There are some
things that drastically need to change for Texas A and M.
But I they are skating because it's Texas A and

(32:40):
M and not Texas honestly A and M. It's still
it's an interesting story, but it's still kind of a
regional story. It would be a bigger deal if it
was a different school. And what was happening if this
is Ohio State, Good Lord, I think about I mean,
think about what Harbaugh took. Think about what a lot
of these guys have taken. Jimbo hasn't anything at A

(33:01):
and M to make anybody at A and M happy
other than the recruits, which is there gonna be a
mass exodus at the end of this year. Because if
I'm one of those guys, I think it's seriously about
reopening and going somewhere else. Well, a couple of things.
It is funny, right, all the crep that that Jim
Harbaugh took early in his career, basically up until last year.
I mean, he had three ten win seasons, four nine

(33:22):
win seasons, and now obviously a Big Ten title, and
he looks very much on his way to at the
very least another ten win season this year as Michigan
is seven minutes away from improving to eight. And oh
you know Brian Kelly multiple playoffs at Notre Dame. Oh
my goodness, he couldn't beat Alabama and Clemson. What a
terrible coach. Now he's a really good coach. Uh. The
only thing I would disagree with is I I you know,
you said it's a regional story. I don't think it's

(33:44):
a regional story because of the national way in which
everything unfolded. This may that that's why it's so interesting.
It's It's one thing if Jimbo Fisher is a ninety
million dollar coach UM and Texas A and M just
stinks in year five. It's another when they signed the
number one class in the history of college football, something
that even a non college football fame can wrap their

(34:05):
head around, and Nick Saban calls you out and said
they bought the entire recruiting class. That that to me
changes the stakes of Okay, whether Nick Saban intended to
or not, he just threw down the gauntlet of you're
cheating your butt off and you expect results right away. Uh.
And again, you know this is the ANNI earlier. You know,
is it cheating? Is it not cheating the wage? Uh?
You know, by technicality, it's sort of is because you're not.

(34:27):
But whatever the point I'm trying to make, that's the
only reason why I keep bringing them up because it's
an incredible story and it's a story that became a
national story and so seeing them fail in the way
that they have it is what it is. Jason. So
that's our Texas A and M update for today. Promise
we don't have to talk about this bad, awful team
that's about to be three and five seven eighteen left.

(34:49):
They are trailing Old Miss thirty one to twenty one.
Fox Sports Radio erran towards Jason Martin coming up more
college football, and of course we'll keep you updated on
Game two of the World Series. As the Houston Astros
lead five to one end of the seventh with the
Philadelphia Phillies, Philly up one nothing in that series. Fox
Sports Radio, plenty more football, plenty more baseball coming up.

(35:11):
Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Aaron Torres,
Jason Martin here, Uh, Philly trailing five to one here
in the top of the eighth, Philly up one nothing
in the series. Houston up five one in this game,
as I said, Michigan pulling out a victory. Uh, they're

(35:33):
pulling away. I should say twenty nine to seven is
the score, uh, in this game against Michigan State. So
Michigan will improve to eight and oh with about five
minutes off in this game, Jason, really quick. We'll get
back to college football in a minute. But to wrap
the hour. Uh, you know, we we haven't talked since
this this World series, um, you know, uh not only
just started, but even when these two teams became official.

(35:56):
We had a couple uh game whatever's game four's games
fives on Sunday. What do you make of this World series?
You know, the Philly thing is just so interesting. Obviously
finished third in in the NL East Division that you
follow closely as a Braves fan. Astros have been here
a million times. You know, it's it's a it's a
random matchup. But I I am enjoying the first you know, game,

(36:17):
and and and almost two full games at this point.
I've enjoyed the World Series so far. Yeah, I mean,
I haven't watched every second of it, certainly not today,
because I've moved between football and everything else that's going on.
You move a little NBA into it, and hockey is
being played, and there's a lot of things that are
going on. Not a ton there, you can, I'll admit that. Um.

(36:38):
But yeah, it's a nice matchup. The Astros getting back
again because that's just what they do. The Phillies. I
can't like the Phillies. That's not a possibility in the division.
I hate the Mets. But I'm not a big Philly
fan either, not a big Nats fan, not a big
Marlins fan. But I think it's interesting. One thing is
making it interesting to me is that Philadelphia all of

(36:59):
a sudden look like the Apex of sports, with the
Eagles being undefeated in the NFL and the Phillies playing
in the World Series at the same time. And look,
the Sixers are gonna be competitive this year as well,
and they're they're gonna have a look at it because
they've got some real talented players, some young guys to
go with him be and you've still got Dr Rivers
is your head coach. But the matchup certainly doesn't have
the luster to me that last year's did, just because

(37:20):
I'm a brave fan, have been my entire life. But
in terms of just the baseball and the atmosphere, I
think Houston has turned out like they did last year.
I thought they were really good crowd. In the World Series,
Philly's gonna be crazy. I hope we get a nice
deep series. Let's go seven with this thing um Verlanders.
That's just incredible stat that you just can't win in
the World Series and and taking ownership for it, and

(37:42):
just another one of those kind of performances from him.
There's just there's some interesting storylines, and then of course
the Astros they're legitimately yes, and that's always gonna be
something we can talk about. So yeah, it's been good.
Now that that's kind of my biggest takeaway is I
know that you know, there's a lot of fan bases
that obviously don't like the Astros for obvious reasons, and

(38:04):
I get all that. Um, what I was What I
would also say, though, is I'm kind of amazed. I
mean to three years ago they lose George Springer off
of the core of of those title teams, those early
title teams keep rolling, Uh this offseason in Los Carlos, Korea,
keep rolling like That's the thing to me is is that, Um,
you know, you can't take back and you can't forgive

(38:26):
what they did three or four years ago with the
trash cans and all that stuff. But at the same time,
to continue to get back year after year after year,
doesn't matter who changes. And it does look like Kyle
Schwarber just hit a bomb. I don't know if it
was out though, they're trying to figure out if it
was fair fault. Looks like h Well, speaking of baseball,

(38:49):
we got ourselves an update. Kyle Swarber two run home run.
It is five to three Houston in the top of
the eighth. Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies a two run
home run four D three eat if you care about
exit velocity, a hundred eleven miles an hour out of
this stadium. It was a bomb. Uh. The Umps are
still checking. It was right down the file line and

(39:10):
right uh, right around the foul pole. Uh, it is
a home run as we speak here, but the umps
are converging. Oh it looks that look kind of foul
to me, but I guess we'll keep you updated on that.
But Kyle Schwarber with a two run home run. Houston
still up five to three, Philly up one nothing in
this series. So yeah, I would just say, as we

(39:32):
await kind of clarification on that, Jason, that to me
is the interesting part of this. Houston doing it legitimately.
I'll say for Philly, we think, we think we I
guess we should. We should caveata with that. We're gonna
get him benefit of the doubt. Some people might not,
but you never know. And I should say, by the way,
quick update there. They have taken Kyle Schwarber's home run

(39:53):
off the board. Uh, it was called a foul ball,
it was called fair. He trotted around the bases and
then they just took it off the board. So Houston,
sorry for the confusion. Houston is up five to one
here in the top of the eighth inning, trailing in
this series one nothing. Fox Sports Radio Aero towards Jason Martin,
a couple other notes on college football. Michigan up twenty
nine to seven with about four minutes left, they are

(40:14):
pulling away from Michigan State. Also on top of that,
old MS is taking care of Texas A and M
Texas A and M about to fall to three and five. Overall.
Fox Sports Radio aero towards Jason Martin. We will be back.
We'll talk more college football and of course get into
Week eight of the NFL. That's next. Welcome at everybody,
Our to Fox Sports Radio eritoris Jason Martin taking you

(40:38):
up until two a m. Eastern time. We are broadcasting
live from the tirect dot Com studios. Direct dot Com.
We'll help you get there and unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Direct dot com the way tire buying should be. UH
to say, you just got you caught up on just

(40:59):
about all all of the news and notes in college
football throughout the day. Michigan is pulling away from Michigan State. Uh,
Texas A, and I'm looking like they're not only gonna
take another loss. They're starting quarterback Connor Wegman, who's the
only healthy scholarship quarterback is down on the ground. That's
not good. U c l A just ran one in
at the Rose Bowl. So they are up on Stanford

(41:23):
thirteen to three, extra point pending with about six minutes
left in the first quarter. There early, uh, you know,
kind of early in the last kickoff of the big
games of the day, Jason, I want to go back
to the beginning of the day, big neon kickoff, and
for about three quarters in change, we got ourselves like
a really fun game. High State's playing Penn State. It's

(41:46):
back and forth, it's nip and tuck. We all think
that there's the possibility that Ohio State might fall at
Penn State. How about this, Jason, Ohio State trail twenty
one to sixteen with under nine minutes to go. They
then outscored Oh Penn Stay, I don't I'm not eve
gonna try to do the math here a lot too
a little. I think it was twenty eight to ten.

(42:07):
They put up twenty eight points in the final nine
minutes of the game. Uh Shaan Clifford, the millionth year
senior four Penn State uh three interceptions and a crucial
fumble at the worst possible time, And I just want
to ask, you know, this game happened a while ago.
We don't have to, you know, break it down like
from start to finish. Do you come my way more

(42:28):
impressed that Ohio State won by thirteen on the road
against the top fifteen team. Do you come away more worried?
Because they really were on the ropes there and I
never got the sense, at least from my perspective, that
they really went out and won the game as much
as Penn State kept shooting themselves in the foot and
it ended up costing them. What were you more impressed

(42:49):
with the win or were you a little bit worried
with how it came about fro a House State. I mean,
I guess you could be a little concerned, But for me,
it is okay. It's a top fifteen opponent. I don't
think Penn State is one of fifteen best teams in
the country. I didn't before this game. I think they've
benefited from a soft schedule and the one opponent that
they actually saw last week beat the brakes off them.

(43:10):
But I feel like if you're playing against the top
fifteen team on the road and Happy Valley is an
incredible environment and you're it's not really firing for you
on all cylinders. You get a couple of injuries in
that game as well. It's not really going your way,
and they've got all the momentum, but then all of
a sudden, you just hit another gear. This isn't Georgia

(43:32):
against Missouri. This is against a Penn State team that
had done some things this year, and it was a
top fifteen ranked football team, and you basically just kick
them off their own field in the last ten minutes
like it was make it, take it or something. It
was incredible to watch, so I came away feeling like

(43:55):
that's what a top two to three team in the
country should do. And that proved yet a again that
there is something different between playing with a juggernaut and
actually beating a juggernaut. And that's what you saw. Penn
State didn't know what to do with that lead, but
Ohio State sure knew what to do. All of a sudden,
they just played better football and dominated the last nine

(44:17):
to ten minutes and made it look like if you
didn't watch the game and you just looked at the
final score, you would have felt more along the lines
if that's what you were anticipating, he said, maybe Penn
State scored more than you thought, But I'm not severely worried,
because everybody's gonna have one of these. I mean, Tennessee
almost left Florida come back and beat them. Alabama has
lost and could have lost to A and M and Texas.

(44:39):
Earlier in the year, Georgia didn't look great against Kent
State and then the next week really had to earn
it against what I would say the difference is, though,
is that this is by far the best team that
they've played. And you know, it's tough because I don't
think there's a definitive it's one or the other. Um,
because the way that I look at it is, you know,

(45:01):
like they did win by thirteen, and there their back
was against the wall and they did make plays, and
so I can't discredit them, but but the Big Ten
is bad this year. Man agreed on that front. They're
very very top heavy, and that they really only have
two good football teams. I agree, And so you know,
I look at it and I say, okay, yes, they

(45:21):
pulled away, but this was their biggest test. It was
just their second road game. Um, you know, coming into
this one, I don't know what their best win was.
Was it against the Wisconsin team that has since fired
their coach, Was it against an Iowa team that couldn't score?
And even that Iowa game, which was also a big
new kickoff last week, there were a lot of times
early in that game where Ohio State had to settle

(45:42):
for field goals as opposed to touchdowns. And by the
end Iowa's offense which is just so bad that the
score made it look like it was a lock. But
I mean it was a relatively close game for that,
you know, most of the first half before Ohio State
pulled away. So, like I said, it's tough. But you know,
the difference to me between you know, Georgia just not
showing up against Missouri or uh, Tennessee needs to get

(46:05):
over the hump against Florida. I think they're all a
little bit different, you know. I think Tennessee was trying
to figure itself out and figure out how good it was.
And at your point, they were the team that had
to go ahead and prove to themselves that they could
not only um play with really good teams, but beat them,
play with rivals, but beat them. Uh Georgia, I was

(46:26):
never worried about them being close against Missouri. You and
I were on air during that game, you know, we
both I mean we both said, George is gonna win
this football game. And they did because when they hit
their final gear, and it may not have even been
their top gear, Missouri wasn't gonna be able to hang on.
So David Hale over ESPN, who I really like, um,
he wrote a piece that was put up somewhere in

(46:48):
the last half hour. He always does kind of a
whip around at the end of the day, and he says,
the team that has looked the best through nine weeks
of football is Ohio State. He said, they are number one,
without question in the country. I believe it's Tennessee right now.
So he said, this is inherently a subjective statement, but
there's really no argument. I feel like there is an argument.

(47:12):
That's how we started this piece. That's that's really interesting
and it's funny. If you missed any of the show,
you go back and listen. We spent basically the first
thirty minutes talking about how awesome Tennessee is and and
I'm gonna agree with you is I actually think there's
not really much of a debate on Tennessee. Uh, and
I think they've done it. And this isn't an sec
big ten thing, but I I think the competition that

(47:32):
they've played is a little bit better than Ohio State.
That's very interesting. And you know, and that's my thing
with Ohio State today, like they were very much on
the ropes, like it was a weird game. Uh. You know,
Ryan Day had a weird situation before the half where
you know, they were in field goal range and they
missed a field goal. There was a weird are they
there was a sack that didn't allow them to set
up for field goal. There was a weird situation right

(47:54):
before Penn State fell apart where Ryan Day is very
clearly in field goal range and he you know, they're
down right, and so he has a run play that
looks like what he's gonna what it's gonna set up
to go for it on fourth down and he kicks
a field goal. Again, it doesn't end up mattering. I
get all of that, but I just bring it up
because you know, listen, it's a credit to Ohio State.

(48:16):
This isn't like a drag down Ohio State. But but
I don't know, like it just felt like there's there
was just something not quite right. Penn State finishes the game.
This is this is how it was. Penn State finishes
the game. They actually out gained Ohio State, but they
had four turnovers, three interceptions by Sean Clifford a fumble
by Sean Clifford. By the way, how about this. All
three interceptions were by defensive lineman for Ohio State. And

(48:41):
so that speaks to just you know, I actually feel
bad for Penn State. Let's really quickly just get from
the Penn State perspective. This was the Fox game of
the day, so we can dive a little bit deeper,
Like I feel bad for Penn State. And I know
the statu is they're now two and fifteen against top
ten teams under James Franklin. I think it is it's
top five opponents. Okay, okay, yeah, So two and fifteen,

(49:03):
top five, top ten, one in five, you said, was it?
I think you were right. I think they're two and
fifteen against the top ten. There, one in ten against
the top five. Those are both the same states. And
it's like and and I get where a Penn State
fan would be frustrated with with him in the state
of the program because you've been so close. It's almost

(49:26):
the hardball thing. You beat the teams that you're supposed to,
but you get in those two three games a year
that matter, and you can't get over the hump. But man,
I sit there and say, when when you have a
sixth year quarterback and that's what their quarterback is and
he throws three interceptions to defensive line. This isn't Will
Levis trying to just get his team. Will Levis was there,
That's true, he was what Levice was the backup. I

(49:47):
didn't even think of it like that. But it's like
three three interceptions to defensive linemen, um and then a
crucial I don't know, man I, it's a weird deal
At Penn State. They're one of those programs. They're like
right on the cusp of something, but every single year
it's just the three the two three games that matter.
They can't get over the humph and another frustrating one

(50:09):
for Penn State fans. And they usually look they usually
have some solid wide receivers and a good running back
most all the time to do. And then defensively, their
linebackers are usually pretty studily uh, and you like them
on the back end too. But and this is the
same problem the Jimbo is having. And it's the same
problem Jim Harbaugh really is still having. Why can't we

(50:31):
get a quarterback at Penn State? Like a legit quarterback?
Now you have Will Levis is a backup. He ends
up leaving and going to Kentucky like if he was
at Penn State, I can almost understand the height more
than being at Kentucky. But you look at Jimbo can't
get a quarterback. You look at all of these schools.
There's some of these big, big name coaches that got extensions,

(50:53):
can't get quarterbacks. You tell me, the best you can
do is twelve years Shawn Clifford, like thirty five year
old Shan Clifford, Like, this is the best that you
can do with everybody else that you have and all
the guys that have come through the turnstiles and play
football for you, whether it's say Kwon, whether it's John Dotson,
whoever it is that's been there, but you can't get

(51:14):
a quarterback. The best quarterback under him has been mc
sorley right, like probably not even it was the Mic
Sorley Barkley team. But as you saw me sorly in approach,
you realized that was the se Kwon Barkley Show. There's
never been a quarterback under James Franklin. That's why you're
one in ten. That and because he's not a great
game day coach. That was true at Vanderbilt, by the way,
and it's definitely true at Penn State. He is an

(51:36):
unbelievable motivator. He's great with the media, all of the
things that you want. I'm sure he can sell you
on going there, sitting in front of your parents and
everything else. And you know, I've met him and he's
a charismatic guy. He's definitely got a charm to him.
But then you get to game day and there is
something to be said for your team being one intend
against the top five. But I will say this, most

(51:57):
teams against the top five, most schools in the country
against the top five are gonna have a pretty terrible record.
That's why those teams are the top five because they're
hard to knock off. They are hard to beat. But
I do not think back to what I mentioned about
what David Hale said about what Ohio State did. It's like,
look at what Ohio States defense is held teams to

(52:18):
lessen twenty one points seven times this year, and defense
was supposed to be you know, potential question mark for
this Ohio State team. Yeah, but I mean who if
they played that has a dominant offense, Rutgers, Iowa, Notre Dame,
like think about like to have to add some of
this stuff in. I mean, they get thirty one points

(52:39):
up to Penn State, but it's not like they've played
a bunch of teams to have just unreal offenses. That's
the one push back for me is Tennessee Tennessee. Next week,
if they beat Georgia, they have to be number one.
But I would I would have a hard time not
putting them there tomorrow. And I still think that it

(53:00):
will be exactly the same. It'll be George, Ohio State,
Tennessee and we'll have one versus three next one. Yeah.
All I would really say to that is Ohio State.
Today was their first win over ranked opponent, trailed going
into the fourth quarter, So it's like, like, give me
a break, Pence, Tennessee. Now some of the teams they've
beaten the second well wait, it was the second one
because Notre Dame was fifth. Because our preseason polls told

(53:23):
us entering the season that Notre Dame, a team that
Brian Kelly ran away from with a rookie head coach
and Marcus Freeman, that that team was the fifth best
team in the country coming in and Tennessee wasn't in
the top twenty five. That's why we gotta do away
with preseason polls, because there are a lot of teams

(53:44):
that could have We could have made arguments for above
Notre Dame before any football was even played, any football
has even played, and certainly after one week, we already
knew like I would take three quarters of the Big
twelve over Notre Dame right now, zero doubt. By the way,
uh interesting developing story that I don't think it's gonna

(54:06):
come to fruition. But Texas A and M is only
trailing thirty one to twenty eight. It appears as though, okay,
so in the final minute, Old Miss is gonna hold
on to beat Texas A and M. Texas A and
M did get the ball back under a minute to
go with a chance to drive the length of the
field down three, but a four uh four and out
because it was you know, they had to go for

(54:27):
it on fourth down incomplete pass so Old miss is
going to beat Texas A and M. Uh and they
are going to improve to seven and one. The Rebels
will actually I believe they're eight and one. I don't
think they've had their buy it, they have their By
this coming week, Old Texas A and M is going
to fall to three and five. This is Fox Sports Radio.
We should let you know. By the way, football fans

(54:47):
be sure to tune into Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff,
presented by Ben MGM on Sunday morning, three hours before kickoff.
That's right. Tune in on Sunday morning at ten a m.
Eastern as we take you live all the way to
Kickoff on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio
app presented by bet mgm. Coming up, I actually want
to switch gears to a little bit of NBA news.

(55:08):
It's been a crazy week in Brooklyn. It's getting worse.
The Nets lost again and Kyrie Irving is under fire.
We'll discuss that next inror towards Jason Martin. Here on
a busy, busy Saturday night, Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, everybody,
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday Er towards Jason Martin.
Coming to you live from the tire rack dot Com studios.

(55:30):
We do have a final in Houston. The Houston Astros
do take care of the Philadelphia Phillies in Game two
of the World Series. Five to two is the final score.
Houston and Philly tied at one game of piece. Jason,
I want to get to Kyrie Irving in a minute,
but any quick thoughts on the baseball game. As Houston

(55:50):
and Phillier tied at one to one headed back to
UH Philly for Game three on Monday night, I feel
like we might have a long series here. I mean,
when you saw what the Phillies were able to do
in Game one, and then the Astros being able to
hold on Schwerber's home run being foul and then pulling
that one back, and then the Phillies being able to
close that thing out on the road. That's what you
wanna do if you're the road team, is catch one

(56:12):
before you go back home. And that's what they've done
and put themselves in position. I don't have a I mean,
I think going into this series, I felt like the
Astros were the better team and certainly the more season
team in this role, but the Phillies might have been
a hotter team because very similar to the Braves last year.
You know, at mid season, this was certainly not what
you were necessarily anticipating coming from the Phillies to be

(56:35):
the team coming out of not just the East, but
coming out of the National League. And here they find themselves.
And sometimes it's better to be hot than it is good.
So honestly, don't have a sense on who I think
is gonna win from this point. I feel like you
do get into scenario where Game three is hugely important,
all right, so I want to switch gears, Phillies and
Astros again. Tied up at one game a piece. Here

(56:58):
game three of the World's here. He's on Monday night.
Tomorrow is an off day, so there there's a developing
story in the NBA. Uh, Brooklyn nets a couple of things. One,
they played tonight against the Indiana Pacers, which on paper
is supposed to be one of the worst teams in
the league. Indiana wins convincingly one to one. Six team
Brooklyn falls to one in five on the year. But

(57:19):
that's not you know, Brooklyn being awful is not really
the story as much as kind of just a lot
of stuff that's really swirling around Kyrie Irving. Right now,
we know Kyrie has had, you know, just quite a
bit of stuff off the court over the last couple
of years. We don't have to relitigate everything. But earlier
this week he did find himself in a little bit
of hot water. UH tweeted a link if you will

(57:42):
to UH, you know a book in a movie UM
that had some kind of anti Semitic undertones to it.
If you want details, you can, you can, you know,
kind of google it there, but it was so you know,
severe if you will that, Joseph said, the owner of
the UH of Brooklyn that's actually had to put out
a statement saying, I'm disappointed that Kyrie Irving appears to

(58:04):
support a film based on a book full of anti
Semitic disinformation. He went on. Kyrie Irving came out earlier
today and said, I meant no disrespect to anyone's religious
belief The anti Semitic label that is being pushed on
me is just not justified and does not reflect a
reality or truth I live in every day. He was
asked about this whole situation the tweet. His response he

(58:29):
was asked about this after the game tonight. Here is
what Kyrie Irving said to follow up on the promotion
of the movie in the book, You please stop calling
her promotion. What am I promoting? Put it out on
your platform? But I'm promoting it. Do you see me doing?
Do you sign in front of it out there? People
are going to say that you are put it out
there just like you put things out there, right yeah,

(58:51):
but okay, thing out there for a living, right right?
But my stuff. Let's move on, a Semitic, let's move on.
Don't dehumanize me up here. I'm not I'm not doing
another post whatever I want. So say that and shut
it down and move on to the next question. Kyrie,
you have to understand that I don't have to understand
anything from you. It's not me nothing. People move on

(59:13):
by posting on the next question anybody you guys have
any more questions? And they're gonna say, you guys have
any more questions because this is going to be a clip.
This is going to be a clip that he's going
to marvel at. Is this any more questions? But you're
not answering the question. There's another answering your question. Oh
my god, let's make another Instagram clips so we could
be famous again. Go ahead. That was Kyrie Irving and

(59:34):
Nick fred L of ESPN going back and forth. Jason,
I have a lot of thoughts, but the floor is here,
I said years ago, and we've said on this program,
and I was just like, the nets are never gonna
win a title because look at look at what's in
that locker room, look at what you have to deal with. Yeah,
he's averaging twenty nine points a game. It is Kyrie.

(59:55):
We know how great he is as a player, but
his his person being around him and dealing with his
emotional volatility, his I kind of want to play sometimes
I kind of don't. All of the stuff that has happened.
This right here is beyond the pale, dude. You are

(01:00:16):
free to say what you want to say. He said
that at one point during that audio that we just play.
It's like, I'm free to free to tweet whatever I
want or comment on whatever I want. That's exactly right,
And I am free to tell you you are a
complete idiot for tweeting that out loud. And he even
mentioned and it's not part of the audio, but he's like,
you know, the anti Semitic label isn't justified. He did
say that, but then he goes on to talk about

(01:00:37):
how you know he's read a bunch of books on
this subject, this being the Black Hebrew Israelites and all
this other kind of stuff. If you've read multiple books
and done a ton of research on the Black Hebrew Israelites,
and you thought, I'm gonna put this clip out here,
and then your argument is gonna be, well, I'm not

(01:00:58):
promoting it if you've read a word, if you've read
anything about them and their history, the controversy surrounding him,
and even if you realize that two weeks ago Kanye
West stepped into the exact same thing, using the exact
same kind of commentary from the exact same kind of ideology.

(01:01:18):
A lot of people trying to say he's thoughtful and
all this other kind of stuff. He is dumb. This
is just but stupid, like there is a dumb tax
to be paid here. I will say this what he
says about it not being the truth he lives in
every day and all this I will I will give
him one caveat and say he may not realize that

(01:01:40):
what he is trading in and the books he claims
to be reading, and the movie that he's putting out
here in this clip. He may not even realize that
that's anti Semitic. I have no idea how you would
not if you haven't paid any attention to that ideology
through the years and seeing the attacks that they are
responsible for through that ideology in the country and globally.

(01:02:01):
But perhaps he just sees it theoretically and he's putting
it out there, but it's still no excuse, like this
is unbelievably bad. And for Freedell, who good on him
to keep on asking the questions, and Kyrie' is like, Oh,
you're gonna basically you're gonna get famous off this clip. Yeah,
because you're dumb, Like what you're doing right now is insane,

(01:02:23):
Like you are you just admit that you made a
horrendous mistake or admit that you might not be a
big fan of the juice because one of those two
things has to be accurate based on what you've done here.
So I'll tell you what, there's a lot to peel back.
Rather than me responding to that, we're gonna do we
will get to to Sagar and continue this conversation. Kyrie

(01:02:44):
irving very much in the crosshairs after some tweets that
he posted some anti Semitic stuff. He was asked about
it after the game. We're gonna continue that conversation. But
outside of Kyrie, there is still a lot going on
in the world of sports, and Steve de Sagar is
gonna come in uh and let us know of everything
that is going on outside of Kyrie. With Kyrie, without Kyrie,
what's going on? Steve? Actually Kyrie irving at thirty five

(01:03:06):
points tonight at the home loss to Indiana one sixteen.
I read the Kyrie and Durant had the most points
in losses in the NBA so far this season. Brooklyn
is one and five, Miami two and five after losing
at previously winless Sacramento. Charlotte and overtime beat Golden State
Warriors just three and three, Philadelphia and Milwaukee with wins

(01:03:28):
Milwaukee five and oh now and Utah's just edge Memphis
one twenty three. Only one game still going. They've started
overtime at Dallas. It's okay, see tied with the Mavericks.
Shay gil Gis, Alexander thirty two points for o k
C DeAndre eight and of the Sons will miss at
least a week after last night's sprained ankle. It is

(01:03:48):
a final in Houston World Series Game two to the
Astros five to over Philadelphia, getting the five runs in
the first five innings against phil starter Zach Wheeler, who
takes the loss the wind to from ber vald As
six and a third innings, one run allowed, nine strikeouts.
The World Series is off tomorrow. It'll resume in Philadelphia
Monday night, with the series even at a game. A
piece of reminder, all the World Series games start at

(01:04:11):
eight pm Eastern Time on Fox TV. Titans quarterback Ryan
Tannehill is out for Sunday at Houston due to illness
as well as an ankle injury. Rookie Malik Willis will start.
You've got all the starting reps at practice this week.
Houston wide receiver Nico Collins is out with a groin injury.
Steelers kicker Chris Boswell is out for the game at
Philadelphia with a groin injury. Pittsburgh signed kicker Nick Skiba

(01:04:33):
now to college football. There are a few games still
going in this late night hour. About a minute to play.
Number twenty one North Carolina taking a knee and they're
gonna beat pitt Forty two to twenty four. It's early
second quarter at the Rose Bowl. Number twelve U c
l A up seventeen three over Stanford. Also, we have
three late games in the Mountain West, including Hawaii going

(01:04:55):
to be starting in a half an hour at home
against Wyoming. Now earlier in the top ten wins for Georgia,
for Michigan for TCU, and Oregon. Number ten USC one
tonight for thirty seven at Arizona. Caleb Williams five touchdown
passes four hundred eleven yards. Number two Ohio State pulled
away for a forty four thirty one win at Penn State,

(01:05:17):
and the Buckeyes trailed with nine minutes left. Number three
Tennessee is eight and oh and was dominant at home
tonight forty four to six against nineteen rank Kentucky quarterback
Hendon Hooker with four total touchdowns. As for Kansas State
ranked twenty two this week at home, Case State shutout
Number nine Oklahoma State forty eight nothing at Oklahoma State

(01:05:37):
was averaging forty five points per game. Louisville forced eight
turnovers to beat wake Forest twenty one. Louisville with eight
sacks in the game as well. Old Miss eight and
one they have held on for victory at Texas A
and M thirty one. Aggies have lost four in a row,
Notre Dame one at Syracuse, Central Florida, scored late to
beat Cincinnati, and Missouri one at South Carol Line of

(01:06:00):
Among the other games, Navy and overtime beat Temple twenty.
Oklahoma won thirteen at Iowa State, which is oh and
five in conference. And you talked about Iowa earlier. They
played Northwestern northwesterns one and seven. There's your caveat But
Iowa did win thirty three to thirteen. So I don't
know who that was on the field, but that was

(01:06:21):
the final score thirty three thirteen for Iowa. Back to you,
you should definitely fire Farents now because it's never getting
more than thirty three points. Like I was not going
to score thirty three points again in the next decade.
That's why you've got to move on that. In that
same conference, Ohio State hasn't scored less than forty four
during its last seven games, and they've won by double

(01:06:43):
digits in all seven games. You know, I saw this list.
The last college football team to have a streak like
that Western Kentucky in Thank you Fox Sports Radio, Fox
Sports Saturday Air towards Jason Martin here on a Saturday night,

we were talking about the latest with Kyrie Irving. Earlier
this week, Kyrie Irving put out a tweet linking and

(01:07:26):
referencing a book that had some anti Semitic undertones. Um,
he tweeted, Uh, I was gonna say. Owner Joseph Ssi
put out a statement that said he does not condone
that the nets do not condone it. Kyrie Irving came
out earlier today and said, um, that he is not
anti Semitic, but that, you know whatever, That's not what

(01:07:48):
he represents. But he was just speaking about a book.
He was then asked about it by ESPN Nick Fidell
after the game. We want to play the sound again
to follow up on the promotion of the movie and
the book. You please stop calling her promotion. What am
I promoting? Put it out on your platform? But I'm
promoting it. Do you see me doing? Do you sign

(01:08:08):
in front of it out there? People are going to
say that you are not put it out there, just
like you put things out there, right yeah, but okay,
you put things out there for a living, right right?
But my stuff. Let's move on. Let's move on. De semitic,
let's move on. Don't dehumanize me up here. I'm not
I'm not doing another one. Post whatever I want, so
say that and shut it down and move on to
the next question. You have to understand that, But I

(01:08:30):
don't have to understand anything from you. Not stop me
nothing people that move on. But by posting on the
next question, anybody you guys have any more questions? And
they're gonna say, you guys have any more questions because
this is man to be a clip. This is going
to be a clip that he's going to marvel at.
Is this any more questions? But you're not answering the question.
There's another answering your question. Oh my god, let's make
another Instagram clip so we could be famous again. That

(01:08:53):
was Kyrie Irving and Nick Fridelle after a game one
thing neither you you know, I didn't. I didn't say it,
and I should have. I think nd of credit to
Nick ferdell Um as a as a reporter. Um, you
know my understanding. I don't know much about him, but
I believe he's based in Brooklyn, guy that covers the
team regularly. And to you know, listen, it's not easy.
A professional athlete has a lot of power and you know,

(01:09:15):
has a lot of authority in a situation like that.
And I give him credit for standing his ground. You know, Jason,
much of what you said before we got to the
Sager is very much my thought on this. You know. One,
I would push back on the promotion. I mean, I mean, Jason,
if I tweet about a book, just yes or no
question if I tweet about a book or a movie,

(01:09:35):
unless I'm saying, man, that was the worst movie I
ever saw. That is a that like that's a promotion, right,
like like you're you're maybe promotion is the right word.
It's an endorsement, though, was it not at the very
least an endorsement? And I want to I want to
talk about something else and another layer to it as well.
That's an endorsement though, right is it not? Of course
unless you specifically say it's not an endorsement or as

(01:09:57):
you said, and look as somebody that's review you TV
and film and all that. For the last ten fifteen years,
I've had my share where I'm like, this to me
was one of the worst things I've ever seen, or
something to that degree. That's different. But the thing with
Kyrie and Laura Albany's had a couple of tweets about
this in the wake of what happened. During this conversation

(01:10:19):
with Furdell, he yells change your life bro at Nick
a little bit later on and he says, I wish
we cared more about black reproductive rights and all the
things that actually matter than what I'm posting. Well, then
why don't you post about that? Why don't you post
about black reproductive rights and all the things that quote
actually matter rather than this and expect that nobody is

(01:10:40):
gonna ask you about it when it turns out that
what you put out about this documentary is so foolish.
She also adds, by the way, he didn't like the questions,
he doubled down on the movie and said he's read
a lot of books on the subject, which goes again
to the point I made before the Sager, which is, well,
he didn't read them very carefully or there is a
problem with him and a certain sect of people. And

(01:11:03):
to me, you know what what this speaks to is
and it goes back to something you know I've talked
about with you, with Arnie with this, with that is
I'm not Mr. Shut up and dribble, okay, But what
I am is this is the way that I view
all of this stuff is I know, all these athletes,
we all want to be more than what we are.

(01:11:24):
I want to be more than an athlete. You know,
I'm speaking now in the third person, but I want
to be more than a radio's whatever. But these are
the slippery slopes. And this is why I think a
lot of fans get frustrated with athletes that try to
have opinions outside of sports, is that you can't be
an elite level athlete and also you know, be uh

(01:11:46):
epidetam what what I see? I can't even say the
word yeah, I'm not smart enough to do it either.
And I don't try to be somebody that tells you
how you're supposed to live your life or how you're
supposed to do this, and so to to be an
expert on you know, ancient story and black reproductive whatever,
and you know, masks and COVID shots and this is

(01:12:07):
the problem that you get yourself into. And so it's
I'm not saying that I don't think athletes should have
opinions outside of sports, but this is the exact situation
where there are a lot of people, you know, Adam Silver, no,
you know, are we we let our players speak their minds? Well,
these are the situations that you find yourselves in. And
I think this is the problem where a lot of
people get frustrated with a lot of professional athletes. Is like,

(01:12:29):
you know, I don't know, I don't even know if
I'm making sense, But oh yeah, of course of course
you are. Man. That's the thing. Like, it's not shut
up and dribble, but it is. You are paid to dribble,
and just because you're good at dribbling doesn't necessarily mean
that you're an expert on everything else. And when you
wade into the public square and you're not fully educated
on the topics that you go to, not wrong of me,

(01:12:53):
to call you an idiot for what you said. It
doesn't mean that you're a full in general, it doesn't
mean that you have no intellect or anything to that degree.
What it does mean is if you play basketball, okay,
that has given you notoriety, that's giving you all these
other things. So now you have a bigger platform, you
need to use it responsibly. You don't need to just

(01:13:14):
fire out a bunch of stuff and not realize that
they're gonna be consequences for it. Just because you're good
enough that nobody's gonna cut you off an NBA team
doesn't mean that somebody won't cut you two ribbons verbally
on social media when you stick your neck out and
you don't know what you're talking about. I long for
the days of flat Earth, Kyrie Irving. I long for

(01:13:37):
those days. Oh where is that, Kyrie? I will say,
you just made my point way more articulately, way more
articulately than I did. I can't even speak right now.
I'm tripping over my words. But you said exactly what
I was trying to say in a much better way.
And when I first saw this story last night, it's
one thing. One light bulb popped over my head. There's

(01:13:57):
a reason Michael Jordan's said republic Kins buy sneakers too.
He's like, I don't want to get into that space.
It's not my area of expertise. I want to play basketball.
I don't want to have to have an opinion on everything.
By the way, another guy, Tom Brady, who will discuss
here a little bit later in the show, is well,
he's another guy, you know. I mean, listen, how does
Aaron Rodgers sound and look publicly versus how you know

(01:14:19):
when he talks about stuff that isn't football related Versus
Tom Brady that has basically up until you know, the
last few months been only about family and football. So
Fox Sports where he had one, he had one, he
had one moment, He had one moment. We'll say this
real fast. He said he had one moment. He had
a MAGA hat in his locker. But he want to
talk about it though, and that was but he wouldn't
talk about it, but the fact that it existed was enough.

(01:14:40):
Like It's just another point where look, if you have
that platform and people know who you are, they can
take anything that you say. So you'd better be careful
with that or at least know what your take is,
know what your position is, and don't deflect when you
get called on it by a reporter and say hey,
this is what I feel or and Nick Ferdell was
LEAs trying to give him an opportunity to say, look,

(01:15:02):
that's not what I believe. And I made a mistake
and Kyrie still fell for it. Wasn't really trying to
bait him into anything, but Kyrie comes across so bad here,
so bad. He sounds awful. And again credit to Nick Friedel,
the reporter who uh just wouldn't let him off the hook,
and I give him credit. That's that's part of you know,
being the media is not all fun and games, and
you know we're not cheerleaders and we're not friends with

(01:15:23):
the players, and sometimes you gotta be tough, and I
thought it was totally justified. Fox Sports Radio er towards
Jason Martin Live from the Tirac dot Com Studios. Coming up.
One more NBA story that I want to get to
to wrap the hour. Then we will start with the NFL,
and we're obviously gonna start with that Thursday night game.
Bucks Ravens plenty more Fox Sports Radio coming up, Welcome Back, everybody,

(01:15:44):
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Aaron Torres, Jason Martin here, Jason,
I'll tell you, man, we got a lot going on tonight.
So this has just happened since we went to break.
There's video in the Michigan Michigan State Tunnel of Michigan
State players. It appears as though they're they're physically assaulting

(01:16:06):
a Michigan player. And this is from Austin Meek, who
covers Michigan for the Athletic. According to Jim Harbaugh and
his postgame press conference, two of our players were assaulted.
You saw the one video. It's ten on one pretty bad.
He said. The players suffered a nasal injury, possibly broken nose,
and he said a d ward manual. We'll address the authorities.

(01:16:29):
J I mean, I know I'm throwing this at you.
We weren't planning on talking about this, Jason, but you
talk about a night where there's a lot going on,
and I don't know if you can find the video
really quick while we talk in real time, but this
is insane. It's just a crazy night. We played the
Kyrie sound. Now we have Michigan State players were reacting
in real time. There is a video on social media
that appears to be circulating of Michigan State players attacking

(01:16:50):
a Michigan player. Will keep details updated as we go, Jason.
But I don't know if you've seen this video yet,
but it doesn't look very good. No, not not yet.
It's kind of weird. Didn't Michigan Penn State have a
little bit of a kerfuffle? It seems like emotions are
running high tonight, doesn't it. It's it's a little strange. Um.
I mean, it is Halloween weekend, but that's I'm gonna

(01:17:15):
need to see the video really before I say anything
more about it. But I mean, you think about what
we just finished talking about with Kyrie and Nick Fodell
after the nets lost in the conversation that they had,
and now you've got this. There's just some strange happenings
right now surrounding sports, some very unfortunate circumstances, and we

(01:17:37):
haven't even talked about all of them yet. Now, really quickly,
let's let's just get into this one. We'll keep you
updated on this Michigan Michigan State developing story of player
appears to have been basically jumped for lack of a
better term, in the tunnel at Michigan, UH, Michigan player
by a bunch of Michigan State players. They're bringing in
the authorities, et cetera really quickly. Jason, I do just
want to talk very briefly about Josh Primo. This story

(01:18:00):
broke last night. I'm sure Jason and Mike talked about
it to some degree, but he was the number two
overall pick or number two, number twelve overall pick in
the NBA draft. UM had a good rookie year last year,
and out of nowhere was let go by the San
Antonio Spurs last night. UM, it seemed as though it
was something non basketball related, and we got some details today.

(01:18:22):
ESPN report UM that it stemmed from multiple allegations of
instances of him exposing himself to women. Again, another developing story,
But Josh Primo did release a statement to ESPN late
Friday where he said he's going to continue mental health
treatment more fully, and I want to read his full

(01:18:43):
quote to give him, you know, fair shake here. He said,
I know that you all are surprised by today's announcement.
I've been seeking help to deal with previous trauma I
suffered and will now take this time to focus on
my mental health treatment more fully. I hope to be
able to discuss these issues in the future so that
I can help others who have suffered in a similar way.
I appreciate privacy at this time. Well, I'll say this,

(01:19:03):
you know, kind of like the Kyrie Irving situation. Um,
you don't get privacy, you don't get the benefit of
the doubt when you're accused of what you are and
it was obviously serious because the San Antonio Spurs felt
the need to release you. I'll just say very quickly, Jason,
it says as though he is seeking help for previous trauma,
whatever it is. I'm sure it was serious and I
wish him the best. I also don't think if he's

(01:19:24):
if he is guilty of what he's accused of, we
can't keep using mental health as an excuse for poor
and frankly illegal behavior. Yeah, and I know we can
talk more about this potentially, And you know you have
um a lot of expertise in your family when it
comes to mental health and all of those things. I
hope if what if he's gone through a bunch of stuff,
that this is gonna help him get the help that

(01:19:45):
he needs. I will say this. You can't claim privacy
when you're exposing yourself like just just that's just one thing.
But past that. Uh, I don't know what trauma means,
but I don't think trauma usually results. And I'm gonna
expose my self to random people like there's there's more here,
even though I certainly don't say that he's not being truthful.

(01:20:07):
We'll keep you update on both these NBA stories, But
coming up, we transition to the NFL air towards Jason
Martin Tirect Studios, Fox Sports Radio. Welcome in everybody, our
three Fox Sports Radio eron tourist Jason Martin. We are
broadcasting live from the Direct dot Com studios. Direct dot
Com will help you get there and on match selection fest,

(01:20:28):
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers. Direct dot Com the way tire buying should be.
It has turned into an absolutely wild night in sports,
a ton of college football. As the Sayer just told you,
the Astros have tied up the World Series at one
game a piece. Uh. Kyrie Irving had a very public

(01:20:49):
back and forth with a reporter. We just talked about it.
We will discuss it later on in the show. And
of course if you miss anything can go UH downloaded
on podcast. And they're also appears to have been a
brawl in UH in the tunnel between the Michigan Michigan
in the Michigan Michigan State game, where apparently authorities are
being called by Michigan's a d Ward manual. So as

(01:21:12):
we get more details on that, we will keep you
updated as well. A lot going on, Jason, But let's
get to um, you know, not just Week eight of
the NFL, but but really obviously the biggest story in
the sport, which started a few days ago. With the
first game of Week eight, Baltimore beats the Tampa Bay
Bucks and then you know, first of all, from the
Tampa Bay perspective, Tom Brady, I believe the status. It's

(01:21:34):
his first three game losing streak of his entire career.
Tampa Bay falls to three and five overall. Um. And
then we of course get the news that Tom Brady
and and his ex wife Gisele Bunchet officially filed for divorce.
Officially not just filed, they are officially divorced. As a Friday. Um.
You know, I I heard Doug Gottleiep say this during

(01:21:55):
one of our commercial breaks. It's a little weird to
talk about a man's relationship, but you know, what Tom
Brady was all about for the last twenty plus years
was football and family, and he didn't really have time
for much else since. So obviously the family situation is
not good. Uh. There are kids involved. I feel bad
for the kids and the wife and the husband. But
it is all kind of just speaking to a larger

(01:22:16):
conversation about Tom Brady this year. Um. And he does
not look happy playing football. He does not look good
playing football. Uh. And obviously there's quite a bit going
on in his personal life as well. You saw what
Kurt Warner said, right. I don't know if I did.
I don't know if I did tell us what he said.
I I find Kurt Warner to be thoughtful and candid
with how he speaks, especially about other quarterbacks. Things he likes,

(01:22:39):
things that he doesn't like. Um, And he's often right.
And what he said was, I'm watching Tom Brady and
Aaron Rodgers and they just look absolutely miserable. It's okay
to say enough is enough. In effect, it's okay to
go home, It's okay to be done with this. It's
okay to not play football. It's what he's saying. And
this was before or what happened on Thursday. This was Sunday,

(01:23:02):
I think, or in the wake of Sunday's games, where
you know, you look at them both and it does
feel like there is a new quarterback hierarchy. We are
finally starting to see it, but too Brady specifically. This
has been a bad season for the Bucks. What do
we say before the year, I kept telling you week

(01:23:23):
after week this offensive line thing is a big problem
for Tampa Bay, a huge problem for them. Julio Jones.
I watched him. I covered him every down he played
for the Tennessee Titans last year. It's about over. He's
missed time. Chris Gobblin's coming back off an injury. Mike
Evans seems to be a little bit less than what
you would expect from him. Now. They lose Shack Barrett

(01:23:45):
to an a c L. They've lost so much, Bruce
arians leaves and so here's forty five year old Tom
Brady and the football is harder, and he doesn't have protection,
and he's not even as fast as he used to be,
which was never exactly blazing, And it's just not going
very well, and then on top of it, and I

(01:24:05):
think you said it, and I don't think you realize
when you said this that you said it the right way.
You said football and family. That's right in that order.
Skip Bayliss famously. I remember reading this story about him
a couple of years ago, and I did a topic
on I don't think it was on this show. I
think it was on the old Jason Martin show on FSR,

(01:24:27):
the Sunday Morning Show that I used to do, where
basically Skip told Ernestine his I don't know if they're
married or if they whatever, his his female companion, just
don't ever think that you'll be more important than my job,
because my job is is the thing I'm passionate about,
not you. If it comes down to it, you're number
two to the job because I cared that much about

(01:24:50):
sports in my opinion and all these other things. And
I kind of went offic just like you do. You,
but you're doing life wrong in my estimation, Tom Brady,
if it came down to it, and she said, look,
it's football or it's your family, you gotta walk away
unless that whole thing has been miserable for you for
a long period of time, you had the opportunity, and

(01:25:12):
now anybody think the Bucks are gonna win a super Bowl.
The thing that's amazing about all this is as bad
and as ravaged as they look, because that division is
such a dumpster fire, they may still win the division.
And if you've got Tom Brady and you win the
division and guys are healthy at the right time, in
a weekend NFC where you really don't like virtually anybody
outside of maybe Philadelphia, and on the right day one

(01:25:36):
or two other teams, Tampa will be in the mix.
As bad as they look right now. That is unbelievable.
But this has been hard to watch because the Tom
Brady of last year and the one after the Super
Bowl and the one that took the media job. They
kind of had a couple of funny tweets in the
offseason and then retired. Gosh, that guy was awesome and

(01:25:58):
we were talking so differently about him than we're forced
to kind of evaluate and analyze Tom Brady now because
he's put himself into a position where he has shown
what his heart desires and what his heart desires and
can't give up is that feeling that he gets playing football,

(01:26:19):
winning games, winning championships. You know, we're all speculating. And
I had to say it, but you know, when you
make a career out of family in football for twenty
years or football and family whatever, um, you know, and
then the family part falls apart. You know, I think
we're all speculating, and so it's funny because I think
we're all just trying to figure out. I mean, you know,

(01:26:41):
my takeaway just you know, I obviously don't have inner
workings to his marriage is this seems as though it
has been an issue with his ex wife, Giselle for
many years. Um. And you know she's said dating back
to like three Super Bowls ago. Um. You know, I'm
worried about his health. You know, I'm worried abou him

(01:27:01):
getting hurt. I love him and it comes from a
place of love, and I you know, I just wonder
if he really thought she was gonna leave, because you know,
I just what I would say is so I agree
on everything, is that it's one thing if you're twenty six,
and you know, if Patrick, if Brittany Mahomes told Patrick, hey,
it's time to hang it up, I could see where
he'd say, hey, sweete, we need to have a conversation

(01:27:23):
like I love you, I love this family that we're building.
But you know, I I think I got some years
left doing this thing. But with Tom Brady at at
forty four in the off season now forty five, um,
and then the weird way in which it happened, and
you we obviously look, we don't know exactly what happened,
but you have the reports of you know, he kind
of unretired without really consulting with her. And I think

(01:27:47):
it just feels like to me, he felt like he
could kind of have the cake and eat it too,
that he could get away with it. I don't like,
I don't see it as he chose football over his family,
even though that's what he literally he did. I think
he thought, you know what, we'll we'll figure out a way.
We've been through this conversation before, it's worked out before,
and she just said how many how many times do

(01:28:08):
we have to do this? So you know, I don't
think he did it with the explicit intent of like,
you know, I'm this is my decision, kind of what
you said about skipping Ernestine. But it is fascinating let
me ask you this now, because that's an interesting point.
By the way. I hadn't thought about it from that perspective,
just to to give you, to give you credence on

(01:28:28):
that that that that that is a sensible position to take.
That like eventually you don't believe the threats, right, Like
if they continue to threaten to leave but they keep
on coming back, like I'm gonna boycott ex company, or
I'm not gonna go do this, like I'm not gonna
watch football anymore because of X reason or all this
kind of stuff. All these people are still watching football,

(01:28:50):
or the vast majority of them are. Eventually, the threat
has no has no teeth anymore. But I will say this,
if the threat being realized, if there's actually a massive
consequence that hurts you, I think you don't take that risk.
And that makes me wonder how happy was he in
the marriage portion? Not nothing about his kids or anything else.

(01:29:13):
And again this is speculative and it is dangerous to
do this, but I'm asking a question. How happy could
he possibly have been at this stage of his marriage
if he was able to weigh it out and say,
if she leaves, fine, I don't think she will, but
if she does, it's all right. It's kind of it's
kind of in you know, six or one half dozen
or the other for me at this point. Yeah, and

(01:29:34):
I that part I don't know, but I do wonder,
like I said, if if he really thought the threat
was there but nothing was gonna happen. And by the way,
the only reason I thought about this so much is
because like me and my wife literally argue about this
because you referenced in the last hour. But my wife
is a marriage family therapist. She deals with on some
degree some levels of these things. She has been on
for a year plus at his time for him to

(01:29:55):
go to to retire. He's had his fun, she sacrificed
for him, whatever, and we've had our back and forth.
But but I, you know, I do wonder, um, if
he really thought she was gonna gonna leave. Um. Here's
the other thing, too, is we could just acknowledge it.
I mean, it's it's affecting his on the field performance
as well, where I think he thought I can find
that balance even in this chaos. I can figure it out.

(01:30:16):
He's not the same quarterback anymore. And part of it
is injuries, problems with the roster, all that stuff. But
it's just I don't you know, It's like I said,
it's it's tough to speculate in question and what just
sucks because this isn't what you want to talk about
when it relates to anybody. I don't want to talk
about somebody's divorce. I don't want to talk I hate divorce.
I hate the idea of someone's marriage, them believing that

(01:30:37):
there's nothing that they can do to salvage it, and
the sanctity of it to me, and all of those
kinds of things. I hate this. It unfortunately has put
us in this place. I will say this. Let me
tell you what a lazy narrative sounds like, something that
that has bothered me now for a couple of days
since i've heard it. And I would defend Bill O'Brien
the same way. And you know how I feel about
Bill O'Brien. Can we not go after Todd Bowls and

(01:31:01):
act like he's the problem because he's now the head coach.
It's like, could Bruce arians come back and step in
and salvage this like it's his problem. Todd Bowls is
not your problem right now. Todd Bowls did an outstanding
job at that defense last year and the year before.
You loved him to death. The defense was winning them
games earlier this season as well. When your quarterback is

(01:31:25):
forty five and his life is falling apart outside of football,
and you've got yes, and you've got dudes getting injured
left and right, including that forty five year olds basically
his entire offensive line, the people that are to protect
his blind and his strong side. Uh, what exactly is
he supposed to do? The idea that well Bruce would

(01:31:45):
come in and fix this, or even asking that question
to me is insane. I don't think Todd Bowles needs
to be discussed at all. This, Saint Nathaniel Hackett. You
know what I'm saying, I do. Uh. Yeah. And last
thought too, is that, um, you know, I I do
wonder if yeah, you know what, Actually, I'll tell you what.
That's what I want to do. I have one more
thought on Tom Brady, uh, sort of related to this,

(01:32:07):
but sort of related to what's next for him. Uh.
And I want to discuss that next errant towards Jason
Martin should mention. By the way, this is the Fox
Sports Radio tailgate presented by the Big Green Egg. Nothing
beats the flavor of live fire cooking on a Big

Coming up, discuss more on Tom Brady and obviously start
our look at week eight in the NFL error towards
Jason Martin, Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio,
aeron Torres. Jason Martin broadcasting live from the tire rack
dot com studios a little after midnight Eastern here on

(01:32:50):
a Saturday into an NFL Sunday. Prior to the break,
we were obviously talking about the big news from both
Thursday and Friday. The Bucks lose to the Ball to
more Ravens on Thursday night, third straight loss, they fall
to three and five overall, and then of course the
news on Friday was that Tom Brady and Giselle Bunchen
have finalized their divorce. They are officially divorced. Uh and

(01:33:13):
obviously you know, serious topic, sad topic, but from the
football perspective, we do have to talk about it and
where I want to take it next. Jason, just really
quick and then we can kind of move on to
some other stuff. Um, what do you think this means
for Tom Brady's future as a player in the NFL?
Because I'll say this is that I was of the
belief early in the year. Um, I said, I don't

(01:33:34):
think he's happy. I don't think he wants to be there.
We know he doesn't want to be there. He want
to be in Miami with Champagne. Um, he doesn't want
to be there. And I said, I don't know. I
think this might. I really think this might be it.
But now do you sit there and look at the situation.
Divorce is final? I mean, you know, are you going
to retire? And I know he has the deal with
Fox and all that, but are you going to retire

(01:33:57):
to come home to an empty house with no family?
And so that kind of makes me think that he
might actually be playing next year. Do you have any
strong thoughts on on if he will be playing? I mean,
obviously I don't think he's gonna be in Tampa, But
any thoughts on if you think this makes it more
likely that he ends up playing next season. That's an
intriguing side of it all. I tend to think he's done.

(01:34:20):
I would be more I would be. If I had
to place percentages on it, I would say it's more
likely he retires before the end of the year than
he plays next year, and mainly just because, yeah, you're
going to an empty house, but you're also going into
a broadcasting booth, You're going into a new responsibility and
a new job. And I would say that he would
almost assuredly not finish this season, but for the fact

(01:34:42):
that he knows that the NFC South is an absolute
travesty of a division, and he knows if we get
into the playoffs. I've done this with lessers before. I've
done this with less talent than teams that I've beaten
on a routine basis when I was in New England.
I did it without the weaponry and one Super Bowls air.
And this is the guy that I still imagine believes

(01:35:02):
that he can win all the time. I just don't
think even if he loves football, I think this season
is gonna rip that away from him, if it hasn't already.
And I do think there's gonna be some number done
by what's happened with his family and the divorce being
finalized and all this now we don't know how long
they have had other kinds of issues and all of this.

(01:35:23):
But I know he loves his children, and I know
that that job that Fox has for him, it could
be very appealing. And all it's gonna take is the
right phone call from a Tony Romo or a Kurt
Warner or somebody maybe that he knows and respects Peyton,
someone like that. It's like, hey man, this media gig,
it's not too shabby. The only thing that I would

(01:35:45):
hate if I were Brady is waking up with that
Fox job and thinking I could have had both. I
could have had this job that I'm good at, that
people like me doing, and I'm just speculating on that
we don't know. And I could still have my family,
but I couldn't stay away from the lure of one
more potential championship, and I lost half, if not more,

(01:36:08):
depending on where he places. You know, his his full
weight and all that. Like he lost a lot here
that maybe he didn't have to lose, because I'm not
so sure she would have been upset with the broadcasting
gig if he had gone ahead and started that. Yeah,
And I think the other variable two is um you know,
he may want I think somebody would be interested in him.

(01:36:28):
But if you're getting to Tom Brady that we've seen
the last four or five weeks, you know, is a
spot that he's interested in going to be interested in him.
I think that's another variable as well. Really quickly, you
mentioned some comments from Kirk Kirk Warner earlier this week. Uh,
what do you think about Aaron Rodgers? I mean, the
Packers themselves are coming off a third straight loss. Um,
you know, have it invested in on the offensive side

(01:36:51):
of the ball. Davante Adams has gone. He's clearly frustrated.
He said some things this week where it doesn't even
sound like he's very happy with Matt floor right now? Um,
do you think it's it for him after this year?
Do you think there's a possibilities playing somewhere else? I
mean the the you know, Mark Murphy from the front
office very famously said we didn't sign Aaron Rodgers to
a three year contract last offseason. We signed him to

(01:37:12):
three one year contracts. Do you think he's playing next year?
And if so, do you think it's in Green Bay?
So when it comes to Matt, Lafleur actually want to
tackle that part first, because Matt Lafleur went into an
unenviable spot that a lot of coaches would still envy
because you get to play with one of or get

(01:37:32):
to coach one of the greatest players to ever live
in Aaron Rodgers, and you get Davontae Adams. But a
lot of people are gonna say, you're born on third
base with a nice lead towards home and somebody just
threw a wild pitch, like, You're never gonna get full credit.
He won thirteen games three times in a row and
didn't win Coach of the Year, and I think a
lot of that is because people gave Aaron Rodgers deservedly

(01:37:55):
a lot of that credit. But what I said during
the offseason was I was fascinated to see what the
Packards were going going to do because I felt like
Davante Adams was as great as he was, and as
much as he was talked about, I still don't think
he was talked about enough in terms of what he does,
especially first three to five yards off the line of scrimmage.

(01:38:19):
Just incredible and I still think the best is yet
to come for him in Vegas. But what did the
Packers have? Who did they have? What were the receivers
that Aaron Rodgers was going to have to throw to
on a regular basis. I look at Matt Lafleur similar
to the way that people used to look at Eric

(01:38:40):
Spoelstra before he proved he was the best coach in
the NBA, which was once Lebron and d Wade and
Bosh and everything sort of finally broke apart, and Lebron
went back to Cleveland the winners championship, and Bosch had
to step aside for health reasons and all this then
we were gonna find out Spoilster never got credit when

(01:39:01):
the big three were there. But then Spolstra nearly won
a championship with Jimmy Butler, and he was able to
prove at that point his acumen. It's hard for Matt
la Fleur to prove whether or not he's good because
Aaron Rodgers is there, and the second that it starts
to fall apart, as it has this year, everybody points
the finger at la Fleur, But you need to point

(01:39:21):
the finger at Aaron Rodgers because everything that he did
in the off season seems centered around I had Football's football.
I'm really good at. Remember Brady even said that I'm
pretty good at it. It won't take me that long
to learn how to play it again, all that kind
of stuff, and it was kind of tongue in cheek
and funny. It's not as funny now when you're below
five hundred and the Packards look like a team that

(01:39:43):
doesn't have wide receivers and their quarterback seems like he's
got about half a foot out the door after signing
that contract, and his kind of wishy washiness being one
of the key factors that led to seventeen ending up
in Vegas with Derek Carr. I don't know about Matt
Lafleur's like, I don't know what I think about him.

(01:40:04):
I didn't like him in test season offensive coordinator. I
was not blown away with his play calling for the Titans,
but I thought, you know, if you go when you
win thirteen games, you gotta at least have some kind
of synergy with your guy. Right now, it just seems
like Aaron Rodgers has almost given up on all of
his targets and all the passive aggressive stuff that he's done,
and the little things that he said just tell me

(01:40:25):
that he's a guy that's kinda I don't know part
of him is still with the Hiahuasca and part of
him is still with the Packers. If that makes any sense.
It does, and I think it just speaks to again,
you know, I mean, there's different ways to approach different things.
And you know, listen, I mean there's a pretty big
track record of off season is where you have success,

(01:40:47):
right and uh, you know Brady, we we talked about,
you know, when he signed with the Box, he was
having private workouts in the park and you know, Russell Wilson.
I know we can criticize him for a lot and
I'm sure we will an hour four, but he's uh
that you know. But I mean, you know, he used
to fly all his receivers out to SoCal back in
the day, and he you know, he literally got an

(01:41:07):
office in the facility this offseason. And then you have
Aaron Rodgers out doing whatever Aaron Rodgers did. And this
it's not like this is the first offseason that this happened.
The year before, he was in Hawaii, the year before
he was doing the you know, the match, and I
know I think he did twice to two times in
a row. But the point is is that I don't
disagree that I don't think Lafleur is anything special. I've

(01:41:28):
said it at Yeah, I was just saying I said
it a million times that I I've tried to defend Aaron,
but I thought he was I thought once Davante Adams left,
I thought he was clearly out of touch, because how
do you sign a contract that makes you the richest
player in terms of annual salary while letting maybe the
best wide receiver in the sport walk away. Uh? And

(01:41:49):
so I do think probably, you know, everything pushes coming
to shove in terms of uh, you know, you can't
just blame rookie receivers. You can't just blame the head coach. Uh.
Some of it is looking in the mirror. Fox Sports
radio editorist Jason Martin here on a Saturday night. Uh.
Coming up, there is actually a little bit of an

(01:42:09):
update from a college football story that we've discussed. We'll
get back to that next. Before we do that, let's
get too Steve to Segre with what's training? What's up
to se We had Game two of the World Series
in Houston tonight. Astros beat Philadelphia five to two, three
runs in the bottom of the first and in the
bottom of the fifth. Alex Bregman hit a two run
homer off the starter and loser, Zach Wheeler. The Window
from ber Valdez series tied at a game of piece.

(01:42:32):
In best of seven series all time in the majors,
when it's tied at a game of piece, the winner
of Game three has gone on to take the series
nearly seventy percent of the time. Game three will be
in Philadelphia Monday night. The World Series is off tomorrow. Reminder,
all the World Series games start at eight pm Eastern
Time on Fox TV. In the NBA, Sacramento was oh

(01:42:52):
and four but beat Miami Charlotte in overtime, defeated Golden State.
Milwaukee's now five and oh after a win over Atlanta
in Indiana one at Brooklyn, and the Nets fall to
one and five. To college football, they've started are just
starting the second half at the Rose Bowl with number
twelve U c L. A very nice crowd. Of course,
they I wouldn't want to say blacked out, but they've

(01:43:15):
put tarps over some of the end zone seats. But yeah,
it does look like an excellent crowd tonight at the
Rose Bowl. Six is the u c L a lead
over Stanford. As for the other games, the three late
games in the Mountain West at Fresno State, they're wearing
all Navy blue for the first time ever for the Bulldogs.
San Diego State leading at f early third quarter, Nevada's

(01:43:37):
own foreign conference but leading at the half, fourteen seven
at San Jose, and the late games at Hawaii, already
the home team up seven nothing on Wyoming first quarter.
There was a shutout of mammoth proportions today college football
at number twenty two Kansas State forty eight nothing, the
final for k State over ninth ranked Oklahoma State, which
was averaging forty five points per game. Number two all

(01:44:00):
Hio State trailed in the fourth quarter but still one
at Penn State. One wins for Georgia and Tennessee. They'll
face each other in Athens next Saturday. The Tennessee win
was forty four to six over Kentucky, Michigan, and TCU,
with wins Oregon and USC as well. Tenth ranked USC
got five touchdown passes from Caleb Williams in a victory

(01:44:20):
at Arizona for thirty seven. Louisville beat code number ten
Wake Forest to twenty one. In the NHL. Among the
twelve games, Carolina one in overtime at Philadelphia. Buffalo defeated
Chicago in overtime, and we do have NFL injury news.
Is Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, after an illness, returned
to limited practice Friday, reportedly due to play as Vegas

(01:44:43):
is at New Orleans on Sunday. Sts wide receivers Jarvis
Landry and Michael Thomas each out due to injuries. Dallas
running back Ezekiel Elliott doubtful for Sunday against the Bears
knee injury. We know Russell Wilson's going to start the
Sunday morning game in London. The Broncos quarterback had a
hamstring injury. It's a gooes against Jacksonville. By the way,
Lions running back DeAndre Swift is off the injury report,

(01:45:04):
so he'll play tomorrow against the Dolphins. Wide receiver Deebo
Samuel of the forty Niners is out for Sunday at
the Rams bad Hamps during Cardinals running back James Conner
out for Sunday at Minnesota rib injury. Carolina running back
Chuba Hubbard out for Sunday at Atlanta ankle injury. Bengal's
wide receiver Jamaar Chase with the hip injury. Will miss
at least the Monday night game at Cleveland, could miss

(01:45:25):
a month, will not go on i R. Officially, Brown's
tight end David and Joeku out with an ankle injury.
Cleveland defensive back Denzel Award and guard Wyatt Teller also out.
Steelers kicker Chris Boswell out for the game at Philadelphia
with a groin injury. Pittsburgh signed kicker Nick Skeeba, and
Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill is out for Sunday at Houston
due to illness as well as an ankle injury. So

(01:45:46):
rookie Malik Willis will start. If you got all the
starting reps in practice this week back to you, good lord.
That seems that seems like a lot of names, Like
what the sager just read, This seems like a lot
of key contributors to key teams that are hurt. That sucks. Yeah,
it was something I noticed just going through the you know,
prepping for today's show. I mean, Ryan Tannehill, Jamaar Chase,

(01:46:08):
um probably not ze yeah, probably not. It's good for
my fantasy team because I need Tony Pollard to actually
get some points from me. Probably no, everybody cares, but
there it is okay, and we have an update that
was the Jason Martin Fantasy Update, brought to you by Tyred.
By the way roll with Marcus Mariota is a starting
quarterback to one. So you are punting on this, so
are you? I didn't know. Is this a is this

(01:46:30):
a what do they call it? A dynasty league? Are
you tanking for the number one pick next year? No?
This is a re draft, Leick, so we we don't keeping.
Everybody's a bunch of people I went to college with.
We're all media people, all sports media people. As a
matter of did you go to college with anybody that
that we would know? I mean, if you're all sports
media people and probably not. Okay, wow there might be there.
There could be a few. I'll have to go back

(01:46:51):
in the animals and and try to figure that out.
But regardless, not a great draft for me. Um, things
are not things like I think things aren't fantastic. I
had ended up with like the next last pick in
the first round and didn't take third round. That ended
up with like Damien Harris as my and Cam Akers
as my running backs, and uh, Cam doesn't seem to

(01:47:13):
have a team right now, like he's still a RAM,
But I think that's like technicality at this point in time.
So yeah, I need Tony Pollard to go off. When
your coach, you know, just refused to play when you
when you don't really have a team in Week eight,
that's not always a good sign, whether it's fantasy or
real life. But anyway, Fox Sports radio Erraitwards Jason Martin,
I do want to get back to like a little

(01:47:34):
bit of a serious topic. Earlier tonight, I did mention this.
So Michigan played Michigan State, heated rivalry, and Michigan took
care of business. It was a game that was close
for a little while. Michigan pulls away in that one
and they beat Michigan State frankly for the first time
in a while. But after the game, video surface on

(01:47:54):
social media of what appeared to be and this is
just you know, we're all speculating at this point, but
it appeared as though a bunch of Michigan State players
basically jumped and attacked a Michigan football player. Well, apparently
there's something to it, because both Jim Harbaugh and Ward Manual,
the athletic director at Michigan spoke about this after the game.
Here's Ward Manual what happened after the game. It's completely unacceptable.

(01:48:18):
I've talked to the commissioner. Uh, he is looking into it.
We have the police are also looking into it, and
it's because they've seen the video, uh, and so they're
addressing it. We will leave it in their hands, but
this is not how we should interact after the game.

(01:48:39):
This is not the way another team should grab a
player and do what they did. It's completely and utterly unacceptable.
We will let the Big ten and law enforcement handle it.
But this this is not what a rivalry should be about. That,

(01:49:00):
as Michigan Athletic Director Ward Manual, do we have Jim
Harbaugh as well? Okay, we're gonna get Jim Harbaugh here
in half a second. You know what we'll get, Well,
we got Jim Harball, go ahead. Two of our players
were assaulted. I was uh, we saw the c S
saw the one video. It's the ten on one. It's
pretty pretty pretty um pretty bad, pretty opening shot. I

(01:49:21):
mean one of our players, uh has a nasal injury,
could be could be a broken nose and just very unfortunate.
So that was Jim Harbaugh after the game. Um, you know, Jason,
I don't really know that there's much to talk about
or to speculate, but again video circulating um of Michigan

(01:49:41):
State players essentially jumping one of the Michigan players in
the tunnel after the game ward manual, the a D
has said that authorities were you know, called. Jim Harbaugh
just used the term ten on one said there could
be a nasal injury. Just kind of a crappy, you know,
not fun story to talk about, you know, in an
otherwise entertaining, usually on the field rivalry game. So just

(01:50:04):
kind of looking through what we have kind of been
able to piece together from this so far. Seven Michigan
beats Michigan State, and there's chippiness towards the end, and
there's kind of trash talking on the field after like
seconds after the game ends. So melt Tucker and Jim
Harball are trying to get to each other to do

(01:50:25):
the handshake, but they have a hard time getting to
each other because there's so much trash talking going on
on the field and Josh Lynn going on. Most of
the Michigan players are still on the field at this time.
Uh Jaden mcburrow's dB. He's the one that was attacked.
He goes into the tunnel, he doesn't have his helmet
on in the video, and everybody else in there is

(01:50:46):
wearing white because they're all Michigan State players that are
already off the field and they attack Jaden mcburrows. I
couldn't tell from the video. Didn't look like Jaden said anything,
so he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Emotions have gotten high. There may have been a second
scuffle if I saw it properly, Um. And then Michigan
goes into the tunnel in mass and at that point

(01:51:06):
in time, they're kind of pushing back against all of this.
So it escalated from rivalry chippiness two words being exchanged,
to then something very unfortunate that may have resulted in
an injury and now could be criminal liability because as
both Ward Manual and Jim Harball suggested, Yeah, it's assault,

(01:51:28):
like you see the video that that's as salt like,
that's a I've seen assault called much less like I've
seen other things that were not this severe um deemed assaults.
So there's no question this is a big time problem,
and it's unfortunate because well, it's just gonna cast it
cast Michigan State in a bad light. It's a rivalry

(01:51:49):
game where they've lost, they're not having a great year.
There's the melt Tucker discussion about that's that's way too soon.
That doesn't really even need to be talked about it
at this point in time. We can get into that,
uh next year if they're still struggling, but they have
a solid recruiting class coming in. But they had a
lot of good things happening last year for that football team.
And this is just not what you want to be

(01:52:10):
talking about. And this is not what Michigan State wants
us to be talking about relatives their football as a matter,
if I I imagine they would like us not to
be talking about their football program at all, or if
we are the reason why it's because we're talking about
how great Kenneth Walker looks as a Seattle Seahawk. Totally agreed.
Uh yeah, And obviously you know we're on here for
another hour till about two am Eastern time. If there's

(01:52:31):
any update on that, we'll keep you posted. But Jason
just laid out exactly what happened, and yeah, if if
if you know, if if Michigan if the Big Ten,
if they follow through, uh, this could be a criminal matter.
And we'll keep you updated on this show, and obviously
the guys and girls that are on air throughout the
week will keep you updated as well. Fox Sports Radio
Eron towards Jason Martin coming up. We do it every

(01:52:52):
Saturday around this time, we bring in Steve to Sager
for an extended update. He's got quite a bit on
the day of college football, including some news and notes
from the Big One coming up next week Georgia, Tennessee
to Segre Next, Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody, Fox
Sports Radio. Fox Sports Saturday Errant tours Jason Martin here
broadcasting live from the Tirac dot Com studios, And as

(01:53:15):
we do every Saturday into Sunday around this time, let's
ass it over to Steve de Saga for an extended
update to Sega. What do you got for us? Well,
let's first give a boxing update for this Saturday night
in Glendale, Arizona. Jake Paul has won a decision over
Anderson silvae Osla Loma Chenko with a boxing win in
New York. And we do have this from the top

(01:53:35):
ten blowouts in college football for Wake Forest losing badly
at Louisville. They were co number ten. Wake was in
the A voting like SI. Louisville scored thirty five and
the third quarter because I think Wake had six turnovers
in one quarter. Louisville was down at the half fourteen
thirteen and then scored five straight touchdowns in the third quarter,

(01:53:57):
including a couple of picks sixes. They had good Yeah,
they had eight sacks on the game as well. Wake
finished with eight total turnovers, four interceptions, four fumbles. In fact,
the star quarterback Sam Harton had Hartman had three of
the interceptions three of the fumbles. Wake was six and
one overall. They now stand at two and two in conference.

(01:54:18):
Six turnovers in the third quarterby my goodness, that I've
never heard of astounding. And you had number nine Oklahoma
Stake getting shut out at Kansas State forty eight nothing.
So two teams in the top ten not just losing,
losing this badly. According to the Athletic, there had only
been two other days in college football history where to
a p top ten teams lost this badly. Two teams

(01:54:40):
outside the top ten, so not a good day for those,
including the Cowboys also Steve. It's the worst shutout loss
by a top ten AP ranked teams since nineteen sixty six,
according to ESPN stats. And the shocker for me is
this is the offensive club here in that conference. I mean,
I know Kansas State, We've we've seen a lot of

(01:55:01):
offense over the years for the Big Twelve, but Kansas
State to shut out Oklahoma State is the stunning part
to me. The win at home, Okay, I can see
that forty eight to nothing was the final against an
Oklahoma State team that was averaging forty five points per game.
The halftime lead was thirty five zip Will Howard four
touchdown passes, Deuce vaw On a hundred fifty eight yards

(01:55:23):
rushing including a sixty two yard TV Oklahoma State with
three turnovers. In fact, the Cowboys as a team in
the loss thirty carries just fifty four yards rushing, including
three sex. K State was ranked number twenty two by
the Way in the A People. This week and next Saturday,
we have Georgia hosting Tennessee, two teams that are each
eight and oh. Georgia has won five in a row

(01:55:46):
against the Tennessee Balls, none of them close. Actually, Tennessee
did beat him in sixteen, but before that, Georgia also
beat them five in a row, so ten of the
last twelve years the Bulldogs had beaten them. But Tennessee
had no history against Alabama the last twenty years either,
So bring on this game. George's game in Jacksonville against

(01:56:07):
rival Florida wound up a Bulldogs win, a forty two
to twenty Georgia right number one, led twenty one nothing
early in the second quarter. It was three at the half,
and then for those who turned away, it was actually
twenty late in the third. It did. Georgia had three
turnovers today, but also five hundred fifty five yards of offense.

(01:56:28):
Skaters are one in four inn conference. I want to
see that Georgia offense against this Tennessee offense next week.
We already had that Tennessee Alabama game recently. Forty four
six valls over nineteen rank Kentucky tonight quarterback Hendon Hooker
four total touchdowns, one in each quarter. Balls led at
halftime twenty seven to six, and early in the show
you talked about the Kentucky quarterback will have us no touchdowns,

(01:56:50):
three interceptions, just nine eight yards passing. As for the
brawl in the hallway after Michigan Michigan State, there were
details from the gay game. Fourth rying Michigan is eight
no after winning twenty nine to seven. Jake Moody five
for five on field goals, including a fifty four yard
or Blake Corum Good again thirty three carries a hundred
seventy seven yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, the Spartans as

(01:57:13):
a team twenty three carries thirty seven yards rushing. How
about this for the Michigan State offense. For the guy
who has a ten year contract is head coach ten
drives eleven first downs. They are nowhere close to the
top of the Big Ten conference. That is an understatement. Meanwhile,
in the Big Ten today on Fox TV, Number two

(01:57:33):
Ohio State was trailing with nine minutes left at Penn
State and then scored four touchdowns in about the next
six minutes thirty one the final Marvin Harrison Jr. Ten
receptions a hundred eighty five yards. You know, Michigan's eight no.
Ohio States eight no. The buckeyes next two games are
against Northwestern and Indiana. Just for the record, Northwestern, the

(01:57:54):
team that lost badly to Iowa today, allowed thirty three
to Iowa. Today, Shaw Clifford at Penn State three touchdown
passes but four turnovers. C J. Stroud the winning quarterback,
over three fifty yards passing and one t d TCU
and Oregon each one and USC got five touchdown passes
from Caleb Williams. In the win at Arizona tonight thirty seven.

(01:58:17):
He had four hundred eleven yards through the air. Trojans
are seven and one and their next two games are
against cal and Colorado. In that sc Arizona game total
yards combined one thousand, one sixty four and in the
late game at number twelve U c l A. It's
the Bruins still leading in the third quarter four to
six over Stanford, who we have certainly talked about. But

(01:58:37):
it's looking like Stanford will fall to one and five
in conference play. By the way, how about Notre Dame
lose to that awful Stanford team two weeks ago, uh,
and then bounce back and just win at Syracuse. And
I know Syracuse isn't great, but you know their only
other loss was a very competitive game against Clemson last week.
Just a Notre names just a weird team. We really
haven't talked about them because they're not good, but just

(01:58:58):
a weird team. Notre Dames won five of its last six.
It's hosting Clemson next Saturday Night. Irish lead at number sixteen,
Syracuse seven in the third quarter. Remember you talked about
the preseason in the Ohio State early with Notre Dame,
and we never thought Notre Dame season would quite wind
up as bad as it did the first month or so.
And yet they're piling ups and w's now and Syracuse

(01:59:18):
after a six and oh start, now has lost two
in a row, and quite silently. Illinois leads the Big
Ten West Ladies and Gentlemen at seven and one. Their
game over Purdue, which was off today, produced at Illinois
in a couple of weeks, but Illinois won at Nebraska nine.
Thank you very much, Steve Sager. This is Fox Sports Radio,
Fox Sports Saturday eron towards Jason Martin, broadcasting live from

(01:59:40):
the Tirac dot Com studios. Coming up back to the NFL,
and we are also going to revisit the crazy interaction
between Kyrie Irving and a reporter tonight Fox Sports Radio.
Welcome on Everybody, Fox Sports Radio Air towards Jason Martin.
Here on a Saturday night. We're here for another hour
till the top top of the hour. Bernie Fratto, straight

(02:00:02):
out of Vegas, will follow us. Bernie normally joins us
at one twenty Eastern time, but he has a commitment
this evening, but Dori Bernie Fratto will be available and
he will be on air at to a Eastern time.
Busy night. I should mention, by the way, we are
broadcasting life from the Tirac dot Com studios. Tirac dot

(02:00:22):
com will help you get there and unmapped selection, fast
free shipping, free road hazard protection over ten thousand recommended
installers direct dot com. The way tire buying should be.
Uh just frankly, it's just a a wild Saturday night
in in in sports, as the sayer just told you,
we do do. We did get a final game to

(02:00:43):
the World Series. The Houston Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies
five to two. That series is tied up at one
game apiece. UH. Top ten in college football Tennessee rolls
they are eight and oh as they get set for
the Mega Showdown with Georgia next week, which is also
a you know, Michigan improves a and O. How State
improves to A and O is well, have you missed
any of the College Football Conversation, Go back and make

(02:01:04):
sure to download the podcast. But I do want to
get to what is a quick, quickly developing story in
the world of the NBA. And we're gonna get back
to the weeknight NFL stuff. We're gonna preview the big
games Green Bay, Buffalo, etcetera momentarily. But this is a
big story. It's a developing story, and it's a story
that I have no doubt you're gonna hear from all
our great hosts here Monday through Friday. UH, and frankly

(02:01:25):
a little bit tomorrow on Sunday as well. Uh. It
is from the NBA. Kyrie, irving from people who did
not see tweeted out something uh over the last couple
of days. UH, A link and a reference to a
book in a movie that had some anti Semitic undertones.
The Brooklyn Nets put out a statement yesterday saying they

(02:01:46):
did not condone Kyrie's behavior. Kyrie put out his own
statement on social media saying that he's not anti semitic
um and there were reasons outside of that that he
shared the video and book that he did with that said,
he was asked about it after the game tonight Brooklyn
loses again. He's asked by ESPN Nick Fidell about it,
and here was a very testy back and forth between

(02:02:07):
the two. To follow up on the promotion of the
movie in the book, you please stop calling the promotion.
What am I promoting? Put it out on your platform?
But I'm promoting it. Do you see me doing? Do
you sign in front of it out there? The people
are going to say that you are not put it
out there, just like you put things out there, right yeah,
but okay, you put things out there for a living,

(02:02:28):
right right, but my stuff. Let's move on, Let's move on.
De semitic, let's move on. Don't dehumanize me up here.
I'm not I'm not doing another I want post whatever
I want. So say that and shut it down and
move on to the next question. Kyrie, you have to
understand that, but I don't have to understand anything from you.
Stop me nothing. People move on. But by posting on

(02:02:49):
the next question, any questions, you guys have any more questions?
And they're gonna say, you guys have any more questions
because this is man to be a clip. This is
going to be a clip that he's going to marvel at.
Is this any more questions? But you're not answering the question.
There's another asking your question. Oh my god, let's make
another Instagram clips so we could be famous again. That
was a very testy exchange between Nick ferdel and Kyrie Irving. Um,

(02:03:10):
and listen, it's not because I'm in the media, but
I thought Nick Ferdell handled himself really well. Uh. I
don't get the sense that he's doing it to create
an Instagram clip to make himself famous. Um. And this
speaks to something that we talked about in the previous hour, Jason,
is that everyone is entitled to use their social media
opinions how they want or their social media platforms how

(02:03:30):
they want. But when he puts stuff out as an adult,
and it doesn't matter if you're a lawyer, a doctor,
a school teacher, a radio host, a podcast host, an
NBA player, whatever, when you put stuff out, you have
to be held accountable. Whether he was promoting or not.
It seemed as though it was an endorsement. I actually
thought Nick Fredell handled himself really well. I thought these

(02:03:52):
were totally fair questions to ask, And I think this
is the latest proof once again, and I think you
said it very articulately an hour three, Jason. Everyone's allowed
to have opinions. Everyone's allowed to share stuff that isn't
related to their work and their their line of work.
But when you put those opinions out in the public, we,
especially when you were a public figure like Kyrie Irving,

(02:04:13):
are allowed to ask tough questions about it. I don't
think Kyrie Irving was ready, And I think as bad
as he looked just posting this, I think he looked
even worse, not even acknowledging or even understanding why his
actions were so bad and look so bad. Yeah, he
doubled down. And I don't think Nick Fridell was doing
anything to play gotcha here. I think he was actually,

(02:04:38):
this is our no, no real quick, and I want
people to understand this. This is our job to ask
tough questions, okay, Kyrie. And I understand, like you know,
we have this whole like new media, old media, whatever,
and I understand that that everyone wants to control the message.
And Draymond Green punches somebody and he wants to do
his own documentary where he tells his side of the story.
That's fine, but we in the media have a response

(02:05:00):
ability to ask questions. It is not just enough in
this case to put out a statement, or at least
in my opinion, is not. Now the other you know,
the reporters that are covering that team on a day
to day basis, maybe they've moved on, maybe whatever, And
if they deem that it's not worthy of being asked about,
then they don't ask about it. But at the same time,
it is our job in the media. You putting out

(02:05:21):
a statement just saying I don't condone this, why you
still put it out there? Richard Jefferson references during the game,
you haven't yet deleted that tweet. So again, even if
you're not promoting it, even if you don't think you're
endorsing it by putting it out there, by not taking
it down, it does deliver a certain message. And Nick
Ferdell as a media member, has a responsibility to follow up.

(02:05:44):
You may news, your your your organization felt the need
to put out a statement distancing itself from that news.
So forgive us for asking tough questions. Kyrie Irving, Yeah,
you put something up there, so now you're gonna be
called to account for it. And what what I mean
by what I'm saying about Fredell was Fredell wasn't trying
to trap or trick Kyrie Irving or a weird weird

(02:06:09):
word to use, Kyrie, by the way, dehumanize when what
you actually put up on your tweet was a documentary
from the black Hebrew Israelites, which is vastly anti Semitic,
anti a bunch of different things. As a matter of fact,
it's been responsible and used his ideology in global attacks

(02:06:30):
against Jews, including ones inside the United States near where
you play, as a matter of fact, up in the Northeast.
That's dehumanizing this whole situation. I think Nick Fredell, he
was asking the right question, but he wasn't asking some
kind of like he wasn't trying to trick Kyrie. All
Kyrie had to do was say, hey, you know what,

(02:06:52):
that was not smart of me. That was ignorant of me. Um,
I should not have done that. And I realized now
what that was promoting in terms of the documentary itself.
That's not who I am, and I want to make
it clear, and I'm sorry, Like that's really all you
gotta do because you getting belligerent and saying some of
the stuff that you were saying, like the idea like

(02:07:14):
don't you don't you post stuff too like right, yeah,
but Nick Fredell, if he posted stuff like this, he
would get fired, yes, immediately, Like it wouldn't even be
a question mark. So us disseminating information on social media
or whatever it is, if you choose to utilize it,

(02:07:34):
you have to understand that there is a responsibility to it,
and there is consequence to what you say. You you
live in a country where you're free to say it,
but you're not free from consequences for what you say.
And if you put something up there and you don't
explicitly say this is not my endorsement or this is terrible,
then you just putting it up there. And by the way,

(02:07:55):
after the fact, doubling down apparently according to other reporters
on the movie and saying, you've read a bunch of
books about this subject as well, so so apparently you're
very well educated on it. If that's your defense, then
you're kind of admitting to the premise, and that's not
a good look at all. And what you haven't said
and we didn't say when we talked about this previously

(02:08:17):
in the show earlier tonight, the NETS gotta put this
guy on ice for a little while. This dude should
not be on a basketball floor indefinitely, as far as
I'm concerned. You look at what Adidas did with Kanye West,
and that was similar rhetoric, it was similar commentary. It
was also coming from a similar ideology. I mean, there

(02:08:38):
are consequences here and what Kyrie said that should be
completely unacceptable for the NETS as an organization to have
something like that, words like that representing their organization in
any way, shape or form. Well, and I and that
last part I agree with as well, is that you know,

(02:08:58):
I think you know and I don't know how many
guys have talked about Kanye West on the on the
these air waves. I think I saw Covino and Rich
discuss it a little bit. But I think Kanye, while
it's not sports related, and while I'm always very delicate
in talking about non sports things, the important lesson that
we learned from Kanye West is that, um, whether you're famous,

(02:09:20):
whether you are dealing with something personally, mental health, whatever,
it doesn't absolve you from the things that you say.
And I think that's an important note here, and it's
it's going back to what we've already discussed. But you know,
I think there's so many of these athletes and Kyrie
seems to be the extreme of it. Is that I'm

(02:09:40):
allowed to say what I want without any consequence at all.
Like I said, use your social media how you want,
believe what you want to believe, conspiracy theories, flat earth, uh,
COVID this that the other thing. I don't really care.
You do what you want. It's your world. You live
your life out you want. But at the same time, UM,
there are consequences for that action. And I will be
curiou is Jason because you know Prducer Bow and I

(02:10:02):
were talking about this during the break. Is um if
there is repercussion from from the Brooklyn nets, because um,
it's one thing to put out a tweet. We we've
all tweeted dumb stuff. Now have some of us tweeted
stuff this dumb? I don't know if I ever have.
I I don't think I have, but but maybe I have.
I don't know. But there is an accountability factor. He

(02:10:22):
doesn't seem to want to be accountable. He sort of
distanced himself, but he's not really distancing himself. He hasn't
taken it down and this is just another incident. Do
you think, um, that something will come from the nets
in terms of a fine, in terms of a suspension,
in terms of a maybe just get out of here
for a week clear your head because this isn't good.
Or do you think this is just something that's gonna
pass over time, They're gonna do something they have to.

(02:10:47):
From an optical standpoint, If it's me, I'm sitting him
down for a while. I mean they're one in six
anyway now, I mean they're terrible, even with him being
twenty nine five and four in terms of his stats.
Right now, how much drama do you have to put
up with before you take a stand? Like? How much
of this crap do we have to deal with? Like
I said last hour, I long for the days of

(02:11:08):
flat Earth Kyrie. I long for that guy, A long
for the guy that looked like he wanted to be
anywhere but on the bench for the Celtics while they
were in the process of basically getting swept and then
it led to Kimba coming and everything that happened to
Boston after the fact, I missed, just like old sort
of cantankerous Kyrie Irving instead of this guy, Like that

(02:11:30):
exchange is embarrassing, Like I from Kyrie, I go back
and listen to him, Like what in the world happened
in that case? Like the one thing you can at
least say about Kanye and his situation is Kanye is bipolar.
Bipolar does lead and they're actually studies to back this up.
You saying certain things in certain contexts and things maybe

(02:11:55):
you would never say finding their way out of your
mouth and a bad time frame. Kyrie didn't even have that, Like,
Kyrie is just I said this earlier, but it ain't.
Shut up and dribble, Kyrie. But if you choose to
talk because you dribble, you have a larger audience that

(02:12:16):
is going to see here and then have the possibility
to respond to anything that you would happen to say.
If you stay quiet, we don't really have anything that
we can talk about here, like you can. You can
become a mute and we'll have no idea what your
opinions are one way or the other, and no one
is then going to espouse anything or draw any kind

(02:12:37):
of conclusions. When you say that is not the reality
I live in, meaning I am not anti Semitic, I'll
give you the benefit of the doubt in a fictitious
way and say, Okay, you didn't realize that what you
were putting out there and de facto promoting and endorsing
was anti semitic. But it's a bad look. And if

(02:12:58):
you step in and you wade into that, you might
be able to cross me over and take me to
the whole any day of the week. But if you
step out and you say something and you're half educated
on it, if you're not sure about it, or if
you don't want to defend it, if it then gets critiqued,
you probably shouldn't say it. Because I have the right
just like you do in a free society. And I

(02:13:18):
love this. I love that you can say what you want.
I also love that there's consequences in the form of
me not necessarily caring for what you have to say,
nor potentially your organization caring for what you have to say.

(02:14:01):
Bay's playing in Buffalo. San Francisco's playing the Rams. Plenty
more football coming up. Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back everybody,
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday. Aaron Torrest Jason Martin
broadcasting live from the entire rac dot com studios. Should mention,
by the way, following us Bernie Frado and the Bernie
Frido Show. Bernie usually joins us in this window. He

(02:14:25):
was not available to join us tonight, but he will
be back on air at the top of the hour.
So plenty of Bernie Frido coming up. No Bernie in
this window, but we will welcome him back next week.
But that's okay, Jason, because we've had a busy night,
and you know it's busy when we really haven't started
breaking down games here until about ten Pacific one twenty

(02:14:45):
Eastern time. But let's get to some of the big ones.
On this Sunday and obviously into Monday the week eight slate.
You know, you know what, Jason, we probably should start
with one of the more intriguing games of the day,
Green Bay and Buffalo. Instead, let's tune. Let's let's start
with another one that I know is very near and
dear to your heart, Denver against Jacksonville in London. First

(02:15:11):
of all, you get off air at what twelve one
o'clock Central time? Yeah? Will you be waking up at
eight Central? Will you be rushing to the TV. And
I know it's it's it's only being streamed, but you
get the point. Are you rushing to the TV to
watch your your team about seven hours from now? Jason?
What's weird is I was watching every down and then

(02:15:34):
I felt like maybe I'm hurting the team and tried
to play the superstition card and backed away and didn't
watch a game or two, went to a concert the
night of the cold scame on Thursday night. Nope, they're
just bad that unfortunately, I mean, injuries have been a problem,
but there are other problems as well. The starting quarterback
has not played well. The head coach is not a

(02:15:55):
head coach. I mean he technically has the job right now,
but it sounds like if they were to lose to
Jacksonville this morning, he might not be the coach after this,
and I can't. I don't want to see my team lose.
My team lose, but I'm weighing the pros and cons

(02:16:18):
of what a loss could mean if we can move
on from this. Like sometimes you just make a decision
and it doesn't work most of the time. A whole
lot of coordinators to get hired to be head coaches fail.
It's not it's not a thing that works a lot
of the time. Nathaniel Hackett feels more Adam Gates like

(02:16:39):
to me than Sean McDermott and Buffalo, or Mike Vrabel
in Tennessee or somebody that has proven something. Nathaniel Hackett
stood next to Aaron Rodgers, and increasingly we have heard
that his gig was can you make Aaron Rodgers laugh?
Can you be a friend to him? All this kind
of stuff, because we know Aaron Rodgers can go to
the line, he can check to whatever he wants. We

(02:17:00):
had heard and I think Hackuld even sort of intimated
this a few weeks ago, was that Russell Wilson goes
to the line, he's got three plays and he can
check in and out of those kinds of things. So
that's pretty pretty damning towards Russ, as is what he's
doing on airplanes with high knees and Baltimore justin Tucker
going after on Thursday night. So let me go, let
me ask you about this, because so, I okay, it's

(02:17:22):
a couple of things. I get Russ has not been good.
I get that he's not cooking, and if he was cooking,
he would have you know, there would have been explication. Yeah,
they would been explicit in the Kitchenlee percentage right now,
not very good. Like I was thinking this though, is okay,
So like, are we going too far with this? Because

(02:17:43):
to me, like I do think, look, you know, there's
a lot of variables, and some of it is Seattle's
having success without him, some of it is, but I
do feel like I don't know, it's just to me,
it feels like it's just like, okay, now everybody's just
piling on. And I do think from the Denver perspective, like, yeah,
they suck this year, but guess what they sucked without
him as well, And so I don't know I can't

(02:18:05):
say that what the guys in the locker room think
of him, but maybe they need to follow his lead.
Maybe they need to be doing some high knees because
you can blame the head coach, and he deserves a
lot of blame. And you could say Russ hasn't been
very good, and that's that's the case. But all those
guys in the locker room, I don't mean this in
the literal sense, but more than metaphorical sense, they're losers.
They've never won at the level that Russell Wilson has.

(02:18:27):
And maybe if he's doing high knees in the middle
of the plane thirty thousand feet above the Atlantic Ocean,
I'm not saying they should be doing it too, but
I just I look at the Russ stuff and it's like,
I get he's not playing well. I get the team
is struggling. I get this guy shouldn't be the coach
or won't won't be the coach going forward. I do
feel like at this point, though, it's like come on now,
like like I get that it's fun to pile on

(02:18:48):
this guy. This guy was awesome for like ten twelve
years now, and I still think this isn't Aaron Rodgers
that's thirty nine or forty. Tom Brady that's forty five.
I still think Russ is gonna be fine. I think
he's gonna get out of this slump. I don't know.
I just I feel like it's gone too far the
other way at this point. Well, I think it's become
kind of trendy to bash Russ because Russ can open
himself up to do that. He's a little bit of

(02:19:09):
a nerd, a little bit of a dweeb uses some
of these kind of like cringe cliche kind of deals
like Broncos Country Let's Ride and those kinds of things,
and it becomes easy to pile on when you don't win.
That's the thing. Gimmicks and all. We talked about p J. Fleck,
I don't know, a month ago somewhere in that neighborhood

(02:19:30):
and we and you asked a question about do you
get into, you know, some of the stuff that he
does the row the boat and all this other kind
of stuff, And I was just like, I kind of
struck my shoulders and said, well, if I'm a Minnesota fan, yeah, absolutely,
and behind all of it because he wins a lot
of football games at the school that traditionally doesn't win
a whole lot of football games. You can do all
the histrionic stuff. You can be Draymond Green, for example,

(02:19:52):
as long as you play for Golden State and you win.
But if you're Draymond Green, you're doing the same antics
in Orlando and you're winning fifteen games a year. That's
not cute anymore. That's the problem. No One's gonna question
Russell Wilson's commitment whatsoever, and I don't think that. I
don't think it would be fair in any way to
do that. But when your football team looks as bad
as this one does, when it looks like there is

(02:20:14):
no chemistry between what we certainly thought was an excellent
wide receiver corps and a quarterback who now seemed to
have a plethora of weapons entering his first season at
Mile High, it becomes very, very very simple to then
start poking holes at the corny stuff that Russ did

(02:20:34):
that you liked while he was winning. It looks good
with the luster of a dub and that's what this
team needs is a few of those, and then I
think people will get off, like if if Russ starts
doing Russell Wilson things. Again, I don't think a lot
of this is going to be out there, but right now,
now it's open season on Russ because it is super

(02:20:56):
easy to go there again, justin Tucker is going after
having fun with him on the plane and talking about
the high knees and all that. All of this stuff,
the stuff he's saying, the stuff that he won't say
in interviews, the way that he finishes his press availabilities,
what he's doing thirty thou feet with his you know, teammates,
all of this stuff. It would all be Wow, look

(02:21:18):
at the competitive fire of Russell Wilson if they were
five and two, but they're not, and if they go
and loose to Jacksonville and he happens to look bad again,
then it's just gonna be more of the same because Russ,
Russ can kind of become an easy target right now, Yeah,
he is an easy target. And yeah, I look at
it from the both the the Denver perspective of maybe

(02:21:40):
more guys in the locker room should be following his
lead because he at least has a track record even
even if he's not playing well. I also do think
some of it to the media, including you know, I
just discussed the quote unquote new media, but like Richard Sherman,
I don't know him. I don't Yeah, well, I mean
his entire podcast seems to be bringing on former Seahawks
and just crushing Russell Wilson, and maybe those are the
only things that make headline. I don't know, but those

(02:22:01):
are the only things that I've seen from that show.
And it's just like, well, the management stuff is a
big thing though, like the whole you can't talk to
us directly, you have to go through his people like
that's that's beyond the pale and Marshawn saying I'm certainly
not going to be doing that with somebody I went
to war with. If I've got to go through a
bunch of other people to get to you, then I'm
not gonna talk to you. And that that Sherman podcast

(02:22:23):
with Marshawn, where they were both saying I want to
reach out to him. I want to reach out and
talk to him, and I can't get to him like that.
That is a concern. I mean, we don't know for sure,
but it sounds accurate. If that's accurate, that's a big
time problem. Then you wonder, well, how are is current
teammates able to talk to him. How is Nathaniel Hackett
talking to him? Is there some kind of disconnect? Is

(02:22:45):
there some kind of distance between Russ and some of
this locker room. You talk about them wanting to follow
his lead, Well, he's got to be totally available to
all of them in order for them to be able
to be close enough to then use that aura to
actually do that. And I'm not so sure that that
whole situation is going swimming like This is Fox Sports

(02:23:05):
Radio er towards Jason Martin here on a Saturday night.
Coming up, we get to the rest of the week
eight slate before we do the final time this evening,
Let's get to Steve to Seger. What's trying to Stanford's
first in goal, Ladies and gentlemen. They just put up
a graphic. They have not scored a touchdown in their
last ten quarters. Number twelve U c l A is
leading Stanford by a score of thirty eight to six

(02:23:28):
with about five minutes to go. U c l A
running back Zach sharbon A twenty one carries a hundred
ninety eight yards and three touchdowns. The three other late
games are in the Mountain West San Diego State has
just blocked a late field goal attempt five minutes to
go on FS one. Aztec still lead at Fresno State
to seventeen. Nevada is oh and four in conference. It

(02:23:49):
looks like they've just taken the lead at San Jose
State there early in the fourth quarter of that game.
The late game is Hawaii hosting Wyoming. That's ten ten
late in the UH set quarter of play. Now Georgia
and Tennessee each one, Ohio State and Michigan each one.
All of those teams eight no. Georgia will be hosting
Tennessee next Saturday. Bulldogs beat Florida twenty Today, number three

(02:24:11):
ranked Tennessee dominated Kentucky forty four to six. Ohio State
was down at Penn State with nine minutes to go,
but did beat him one. Michigan defeated Michigan State twenty
nine to seven. Wins in the top ten for TCU
and Oregon USC one. Tonight, Louisville ripped Wake Forest, Kansas
State shut out Oklahoma State forty eight to nothing. Tonight,

(02:24:35):
fifteen ranked Old Miss goes to eight and one with
a win at Texas. A and m Aggies have lost
four in a row Old mrs tied for first in
the SEC West with Alabama and l s U. Now
Mississippi just lost at L s U. Off next week
and then host Alabama. Notre Dame one at Syracuse, Illinois
gotta win at Nebraska and Nebraska four turnovers only nine

(02:24:56):
first downs in twelve drives. Nebraska lost at home twenty
six to nine to the ALNI Central Florida on a
touchdown in the final minute. Beat twentie ranks Cincinnati twenty
five to twenty one. Cincinnati had one nineteen straight in conference.
There were three total touchdown scored in the last five
minutes of this game. Congrats to UCF, which had only
one penalty in the game and now two lane at

(02:25:17):
seven and one overall leads the American Conference. Two lanes
off this week. It still has to play both UCF
and Cincinnati tonight. Number twenty one. North Carolina trailed Pittsburgh
third quarter but beat him forty two to twenty four.
Drake May five touchdown passes tar You'll seven and one.
Missouri one at twenty fifth ranks South Carolina twenty three
to ten. MISSOO leading the second quarter seventeen to nothing.

(02:25:40):
Each team now two and three in conference. Missouri's next
two games are against Kentucky and Tennessee Yukon one. Boston
College Miami one in four overtimes at Virginia fourteen to
twelve in a game with no touchdowns. Iowa thirty three
thirteen winners against Northwestern Arkansas one at Auburn Tennis. The
Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill out for Sunday at Houston and

(02:26:03):
also kicker for the Steelers. Chris Boswell out for the
game at Philadelphia with a groin injury. Game two of
the World Series to Houston. Got three runs in the
first off losing pitcher Zach Wheeler and a two run
homer in the fifth from Alex Bregman, and beat Wheeler
and the Phillies five to two. Phillies with runners in
scoring position when over seven, so the series tied at
a game apiece. It will resume Monday night in Philadelphia.

(02:26:24):
The World Series is off tomorrow. Philly now ten and
three this postseason. Among the seven NBA games, Charlotte beat
Golden State in overtime, Indiana winner at Brooklyn. The Nets
are one in five. Sacramento was on on four but
edged Miami. Philadelphia gotta win at Chicago, but James Harden
was two of thirteen shooting from the floor. Milwaukee five
and oh after a win over Atlanta despite forty two

(02:26:46):
points from Trey Young, Oklahoma City one in overtime at Dallas,
and Utah beat Memphis by a point. DeAndre eight and
of the Sons, was injured last night a sprained ankle.
He will miss at least a week. Back to you,
thank you very much, Steve the Seger Sports Radio, Fox
Sports Saturday air tourist Jason Martin come to you alive
from the entire ract dot com studios. All right, Jason,

(02:27:07):
let's get into some of the games. I you know,
I don't know if it's the best game, um, but
it is certainly an intriguing one. Let's start with the
actually the last game of tomorrow schedule of the Sunday
week Night a week eight slate Green Bay at Buffalo.
Green Bay, of course is uh, you know, on a
three game losing streak. They're sitting at three and four overall.

(02:27:27):
They had to Buffalo as close to a double digit
right around a double digit underdog. UM. I don't I
don't want to say, I mean, you know, it's Sunday night.
It's standalone. We're gonna overreact one way or another. Do
you do you see the scenario where Green Bay at
least keeps things competitive in Buffalo? Yeah, for sure. Like
this is a kind of game where you're in primetime

(02:27:50):
and if Aaron Rodgers really wants to show up and
do business, this could be one of those games that
becomes something different than you're expecting going in. But I
just don't know that Aaron Rodgers has that anymore, and
I don't know what he's got around him to help
him along. Even if he is walking in with that mentality,

(02:28:10):
I'll show you we're not finished. I'm looking at their schedule. Okay,
They've got the Bills, and then they've got the Lions
in Detroit, which is not as easy as it usually
is because they're a solid offense. They're getting Swift back
off injury after he's missed a few games. They always
play hard. Uh, that probably still be a win, but

(02:28:31):
it won't be an easy one. Then after that Dallas Tennessee,
who keeps winning despite the fact I don't think they're
particularly good, like I don't think they're Buffalo good, but
they're always well coached, They're gonna play you tough, especially
in prime time. So Dallas, Tennessee, Philadelphia, those three after

(02:28:53):
you go to Detroit a division game against an improved
Lions team. This is not an easy schedule like at
all for green Bay. And then you get Rams, Dolphins,
Vikings in your last four you get those are three
of your last four games. This is is this a

(02:29:14):
must win considering the Vikings or a one lost team
right now? If they were to fall to three and five,
the Vikings were to win tomorrow, are now guess today
and we're six and one? Are we really looking at
green Bay missing the playoffs entirely and starting to feel
like they're fading in an NFC North that they have

(02:29:35):
controlled without much opposition throughout Aaron Rodgers career. Well, I
was gonna say, I I think right now we need
to put aside winning the division and just can they
get one of those three wild card spots? And that
was gonna be My next question is is, you know,
do we think they're a playoff team because all of
a sudden, obviously Philly is playing really well. Uh, the
Cowboys might have the best defense in the league. The Rams, Okay,

(02:29:57):
you know, the Rams are tough, we don't know what
they are. The do Offins are tough, the Vikings are tough.
I mean, there's just not a lot of Yeah, there's
just not a lot of guaranteed wins on that schedule
going forward. And so you're sitting at three and four.
I think most of us think you're gonna be three
and five coming out of tomorrow. Now, all of a sudden,
that's that's eight games. There's ten games left, and you

(02:30:19):
still have Cowboys, Titans at Eagles, Rams at Dolphins, Vikings.
I mean, that's what seven out of the final ten
are not gimmeys. And and by the way, Detroit always plays,
you know, plays green Bay pretty tough here and there. Um,
So it's not as though even like, I don't know,
I just I don't see a team that that I

(02:30:39):
don't like. I think for them to even make a
wild card spot, they're gonna have to have one of
those runs where they rip off three out of four,
four out of six, And I don't see that window
in the schedule that allows that. Jason, No, I don't know.
The defense has not been as good as you thought
they were gonna be, and maybe they're filing a little
bit of heat because they don't have the offense behind

(02:31:01):
them that they're used to. Um. You've had some issues
with box tr this season. They've run the ball a
little inefficiently, but the play calling hasn't been great, and
Aaron Rodgers just hasn't been great, and he has certainly
not made any of his receivers look great. We talked about, well,
Jordy Nelson was not the same player after he left
Green Bay and what Stavante Adams gonna be without Aaron Rodgers. Well,

(02:31:22):
Davante is doing all right, um, barring the one incident
that he had and being banged up here and there.
But you look at Aaron Rodgers, it's a far cry
with what we're seeing in Green Bay than what we're
seeing in Kansas City. And I think there's there's possibly
two causes of that. One, maybe Aaron's little bit overrated
at this stage. But two, we are in front of

(02:31:43):
us potentially watching the passing of the torch as we
watched the Game of the Century rematch with h. Josh
Allen and Patrick Mahomes a couple of weeks ago. Are
we seeing the final flickers in the lights of Tom
Brady and Aaron Rodgers almost simultaneously. Both of them could
end up making the playoffs. The Bucks, because of the
division they play in, probably still will. But I look

(02:32:06):
at Green Bay schedule and at this point, I just
don't think they're a good football team, like at all.
And they are deficient when it comes to weapons to
stretch the field, which is what they sorely missed when
they lost Adams and when they lost MVS. Because Alan
Lazard is not a wide receiver one and guess what,
he's not playing in this game. Buffalo could win this thing,

(02:32:29):
and it could be and not win it, but win
it to a degree where you're doing something else. Midway
through the second quarter, This says Fox Sports Radio Aero
towards Jason Martin. Coming up, we will put a bow
on the show. Get to the rest of Week eight.
Got some pretty funny sound from the college football world
as well. Er towards Jason Martin. Fox Sports Radio, Welcome
back everybody, Fox Sports Radio aeron towards Jason Martin broadcasting live. Yes,

(02:32:54):
we are live on Eastern time from the Tirack dot
Com studios, putting a bow on the show. If you
missed any of it. We started with Tennessee, Georgia or Tennessee, Kentucky,
excuse me, and we we covered a lot of ground.
We had some Kyrie Irving news that you're gonna want
to catch up on. We talked about us a situation
following the Michigan Michigan State game. If you missed anything,

(02:33:16):
go back and download the podcast available shortly after the show,
jameson before we get really quickly to back to Week
eight of the NFL, there was kind of a funny,
lighthearted thing I guess you called lighthearted out of the
world of college football on Saturday. You know, have a
little bit of fun to end the show. So after
the game today, uh so, Texas A and M plays Ole,

(02:33:39):
miss Ole, miss beats him, Texas A and M loses again.
They they're now three and five this season. And after
the game, Lane Kiffin was asked if he had any
plans for Halloween. Here is what he had to say,
Halloween right around the corner. What are we dressing up as?
I don't know, maybe Joker, maybe Jim a Joker outfit

(02:34:00):
for me. So that was Lane Kiffin asked about his
Halloween for my buddy Cole cublic I love Cole He's
works for the SEC Network, and Lane Kiffin says, I
wonder if Jimbo Fisher has a joker costume. I mean,
you know, we talked about Russell Wilson just taking a
lot of els and just just getting a lot of
uh what do they call it? Uh? You know what

(02:34:22):
do the kids call it? Um? You know, like when
they take no like uh like like uh when when
they unintentionally catch some heat or whatever. Anyway, the point
is a stray. That was exactly the word I was
looking for. So you talk about just, you know, Russell
Wilson catching a lot of strays, it feels like, man,

(02:34:43):
it's just pile on Jimbo Fisher season, Lane Kiffin saying, uh,
Lane Kiffin saying um that he wonders if Jimbo Fisher
has a joker costume for Halloween this year. Look, it's
open season. I'm the one that I'm the one that
built the store that people are now shopping in to
take shots at Jimbo Fisher. I've been on I I

(02:35:04):
was one of the first guys to say that once
you got him out of the A C C, we're
gonna find out just how much better than Kevin someone
he is and right now the answer is, um, I'm
not so sure he's any better than Kevin Someone. That
is a bad, bad situation only thing. If I'm Jimbo,
I'm looking at like well, Sark was really struggling last year.
He's doing a little better. It's a little bit wishy

(02:35:25):
washy Texas A and M just Jimbo's gotta be happy
with the buyout. Man, he's gonna make eight plus million
dollars either way. They can't afford to let him go
after this year, so he's gonna get more of an
opportunity and maybe with new recruits he can do something.
But his quarterback, his quarterback was that's gonna have to
change real fast. And you kind of mentioned we opened

(02:35:46):
with Tennessee Georgia. Then you said, no, actually Tennessee Kentucky.
I promise you will be opening with Tennessee Georgia a
week from today. I cannot wait. Next week we have
Tennessee Georgia. Also a little l s U Alabama that
that's kind of getting lost in the shuffle here, by
the way, I saw Brett McMurphy tweeted that both of
those games, Uh, you know, we talked about Georgia or

(02:36:07):
we talked about Tennessee as the underdog against Alabama home
and eleven point underdog. According to Brett McMurphy. By the way,
I will say this too, a little bit of a
crazy game going on in college football that that you
know it's on FS one. Fresno State in the last
minute just recovered an on side kick and scored to
take the lead in with under a minute to go.

(02:36:28):
So in terms of the national scene, it's not that much,
but a crazy finished. San Diego State was up with
a minute nine left. Fresno State recovers an onside kick,
they score. Should mention by the way, you see l
A up thirty eight to thirteen closing seconds against Stanford
really quick, Jason, uh, just give me a winner a
loser Seattle. So we talked about Green Bay Buffalo. I
assume you're gonna take Buffalo in that one tomorrow. I am.

(02:36:51):
There's there's a part of me it's just like maybe
this is the Aaron Rodgers magic, but no, I just
I just think Buffalo is just the best team in
the league and they will show it again. Two of
the more interesting underrated teams. How about the New York
Football Giants traveling to Seattle, Seattle. How about Seattle sitting
atop the division at four and three or yeah, four
and three. I believe this is the only game featuring

(02:37:15):
two teams with winning records this week. I don't know
who had that one on their bingo card in the preseason.
But Giants traveling to Seattle twelve man one Pacific Eastern
on Fox? Do you have a strong lean on that one?
Not really, But I will say this, The Giants win
every game that they win close. I don't think they've

(02:37:36):
won a game by more than eight points all year.
They won by one, they won by three, they won
by eight, they won by five, they won by four,
they won by six. That is not generally sustainable. It's not.
But they are well coached on both sides of the football.
They're dangerous. But they're going east to west to play
in a hostile environment against the Seahawks team that, assuming

(02:37:56):
Metcalf is gonna play, and I think he is. I
kind of tend to think Seattle is gonna get that
win very good. I actually tend to grab I think
Seattle gets the win at home. How about the San
Francisco forty Niners currently on a seven game regular season
win streak against the Los Angeles Rams. Now keep in mind,
obviously the Rams did win in the NFC Championship Game

(02:38:17):
last last year, but San Francisco has already beaten the Rams. Once.
You think San Francisco makes it two for two as
these two kickoff and Sofi Stadium, no debo, that's a
big deal. I still the McCaffrey thing. We gotta see
exactly how that plays out against a division opponent. And

(02:38:37):
I'm still worried about his health every time I see
him carry the football. I have the Rams in the
Super Bowl. They've got to find a way to get
it turned around, and so I think they will split
with the Niners and win that game. Today winner New
England versus the Jets, I'm gonna go Jets. Just say.
I kind of want to do the exact same thing.

(02:38:57):
But this has been such a weird week for the
Patriots with the way Belichick's kind of been under fire.
This is the kind of game where he tries to
stick it to somebody. So I'll take the Patriots. All right,
we gotta get out of here. I want to thank
the crew, want to thank God Donna on the boards.
Want to thank producer Bo, want to thank Steve de Seger.
Want to thank my partner Jason Martin. I'm Riatoris and
it was a busy night. If you missed anything, make
