Speaker 3 (00:30):
Man?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
How you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:31):
I know you are great? You know what, It's true.
You don't have to say it. I'll say you are great.

(00:51):
your presets in the iHeart app, so it always pops
up at the top of your screen. Again, it's just
search Fox Sports Radio in the iHeart app all right, Well,
one of the best days in sports today selection Sunday,
and it's great, and really I just love it. I
can't wait. I don't get too involved because I don't
really have a great rooting interest in it, but I
follow it because it's just exciting. That's why I do it.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
I mean, look, everyone loves the tournament and this should
be exciting because there's a lot of parody in college basketball.
The teams at the top are all there, so it
makes four a really exciting run.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Even though we won't.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
I don't think we'll see the epic upsets like we
used to see four and thirteens in those. I do
think there's a bit of an unknown entity to who's
going to be the team to WATS ways.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
The champ I agree with you there. You know it
is one of the best tournaments. It's one of the
best events in sports. And my question is why change
it because this talk right now, expansion maybe to eighty teams,
let it go. I mean, there's enough mediocrity right now.
I watched last night prairie View is getting in. Prairie
View had a five hundred record. I mean Prayriview, A

(02:01):
and M and I go way back. When I think
a prairie View, I think of an old time NBA player,
the big z Zelmo Beaty played for prairie View. He
may be the only NBA graduate from Prairie View. And
they're going to the NC DOUBLEA tournament. Good for them,
But I don't think it's not good for the tournament.
We don't need more prairie Views going to the NC
Double A tournament.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
I mean, I think if you want to give everyone
an opportunity to play, to represent because there's so many
visual on teams, you're gonna have some of those things.
One of the things that we used to love about
the tournament is one of the last places where David
angelive Kas square off and David actually had.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
A chance to win.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
And so a Prairieview getting in by winning the conference tournament,
by being able to do some of those things.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Well, you know, I hear what you're saying, but I
don't think in this day and age, you know, the
little Cinderella like back in the day when Saint Peter's
beat Kentucky, they ain't gonna happen anymore. With Nio because
they should have some sort of a budget limit, maybe
a salary cap a player. We'll get into that later on,
I'm sure, but I will say this. I know you

(03:06):
are a big advocate of women's basketball and I follow
it as well, and I think that right now, with
the NCAA men's tournament getting on the way with selection Sunday,
and the women have theirs tonight at seven pm Eastern
time as well, you know they're gonna be like, sure, changed,
you know they do well. They have a great situation
going on, a lot of interest right now WNBA, whatever

(03:27):
it may be. I just think one of the tournaments
should not be at this day. It shouldn't be concurrent.
They should have one one week and one the other.
They shouldn't be going at the same time because I
think they're gonna be lacking coverage with the women's tournament.
Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe the women should start a week
or two after or prior to I don't know, but
they haven't going on at the same time. They're just
not going to get the coverage they deserve. That's my take.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
I mean, I'm with them that there will be.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Some of that that takes place, right they don't get
their full respect, because look, everyone's gonna look at the
men's not so much to women's, and the women's tournament
traditionally has been chalked. They have been many upsets in
the women's because the teams at the top are like
heading shows above those that are beneath them. They're different

(04:15):
tiers to it. But when we get into those elite
eight rounds where we see the top eight teams, then
it should be fun because these teams are really good
and everyone is chasing Yukon. Yukon's undefeated, Yukon's going for
another championship.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
They always appear to be in the mix. It should
be fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Yeah, and I will watch it. But again I think
that they will not. They'll take a backseat to the men.
And there are people out there saying, yeah, they should No, No,
they should not. Okay, they should not. But the point
is they will as far as coverage is concerning, and
maybe down the road they will change that a little bit.
I don't know about just the thought I had, and
I got some bad news before we get rolling it.
That's a bad news because the Magic City promotion, which

(04:55):
we talked about last week, which was initially set for
tomorrow night at Atlanta. It's off right now, they're not
doing it, And I'm not really surprised. I'm kind of
surprised it took so long for I guess the commissioner
to get themself together with the people with the Atlanta Hawks.
But look, there was a statement that came out and
said that quote, while we are very disappointed and the

(05:15):
NBA's decision to cancel our Magic City promotion, will fully
respect the decision. As a franchise, the Hawks remain committed
to celebrating the best of Atlanta with authenticity in ways
that continue to unite and bring us all together. Okay,
for though it's not familiar, Basically, it's a strip joint.
I hate to use that term. It's just a I
guess what would you call it. I wouldn't call it

(05:36):
a strip joint. Sounds really low class show women that
gets show class. I don't know whatever it may be.
But they do have good wings, you said, so we'll go.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
They're known for their wings, Yes they are.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
So they canceling the event. All right, that's done. Are
you surprised that it's canceled? You surprised it took this long?

Speaker 5 (05:58):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (06:00):
I'm not surprised that eventually it got to Adam Silver
and he put akebash on it. There was so much
outrage about it that eventually people at the top always
hit the noise, and so they heard the noise, and
I guess it agree as to the demands of the
people who thought it was unbecoming thought it maybe it
was a little tasteless and those things, even though you

(06:22):
and I didn't feel like there was anything out of
pocket with it, based on the fact.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
That it is such an institution down in the town.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
No doubt, I've seen a lot worse. Believe me, it's
not that bad. If you don't like it, just don't go.
I mean that that's just the way it should be.
It's just, you know, everybody has their taste. That's what
it is. Listen.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
You know, very easy, it very easy to be complicit
if you don't if you don't like, you do not
have to go or tonate or support it any of those.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Things, exactly right now. There's one thing I did support
all year longer was the Miami RedHawks Miami of Ohio
Miami University rooms for Ohio basketball, and it came to
a stringing. They were thirty one and ohero in the
regular season, they won the Mid American Conference and they
lost the opening round of the Mid American Conference tournament
the University of Massachusetts on Thursday eighty seven, eighty three. Okay,

(07:11):
they're thirty one and one right now, and everybody's asking
the question, and we're gonna have Travis Steele on our
number three, the coach of Miami. Do they go to
the dance? You know what? It's such a ridiculous question,
I believe, because I think you talk about quad one
wins quad two, whatever it may be. Winning trumps everything,
Winning trumps everything. You go thirty one in oh and

(07:32):
you lose the first round of a tournament. You're going
to the NCAA tournament, period And the story agreed.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yes, as you go, no matter what, no.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Doubt, as you be in right. I read something I
think last night that Joe Lonardi, the bracketologist king says
they may have to go to Dayton for the playing game.
That will be a travesty. That would be ridiculous, It
really would be. And I tell you what's gonna happen
if they don't get into the tournament, which is not
gonna happen. They're getting in. If they don't get in,
you're gonna see a boatload of people walking out the door. Players,

(08:05):
you know, going to other schools, and maybe even Travis
Steele who has been offered an extension on his contract
and not sign it yet he may bolt it as well.
I would think, m.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Yeah, Look, I think there canna be a lot of
people that are upset if they're not in, if they
don't get a great seed or any of those things.
But some of that, I'll say this because when you
look at their resume, there's some things about it where
they did beat up a lot of cupcakes and they
couldn't finish it the way they need to finish it
by winning the tournament. That means that they're gonna knock out.
I'm not going to say they're gonnaknock out a more

(08:39):
worthy competitor. But what they did is they just kind
of forced the committee to make some hard decisions, because
do you reward someone who doesn't have an impressive resume
because of their record and taking on that resume with
a bunch of cupcakes and lightly light contenders, or do
you reward a team they play tough schedules but may

(09:01):
not affair as well against those schedules. I think in Miami,
the fact that they were undefeated for the entire season
until they get determined that plays in their favor. But
from a seating standpoint, where do you put them, Man,
it's kind of a difficult one.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
It really is. I mean, and they're being held responsible
for the conference that they play in. You could only
beat the teams that are on your schedule, and a
lot of teams and according to Travis Steel and we
could even ask them this and now were number three,
a lot of teams didn't want to schedule him. They
shied away, they didn't want to play in Miami and lose.
I mean, it was almost like the University of Cincinnati.

(09:40):
They fired that coach the other day, West Miller, you know.
And one of the big reasons were and they beat
Kansas year, they beat a couple of Big twelve schools,
may be three of them, but you know, they lost
to Eastern Michigan. I mean, you can't lose to Eastern Michigan.
You just can't do that. A Big twelve school should
never do that. And honestly, they probably had Eastern Michigan
on their schedule as cupcake as a gimme. Really, I

(10:01):
didn't lost to them, can't do it.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
So there's tough, right, because it creates a different kind
of pressure. But you are right. There is an expectation.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
That you must meet each and every time you suit
it up, particularly when your team like that, right, you
have a reputation for being a team that has always
been a heavy hitter. Those expectations and standards don't go away.
And for them, meaning Miami Ohio to be interested to
hear how he talks about their season, how they bounce back,

(10:34):
and what they eventually should expect from attorney when the
tournament committee when it comes down to placing them and
giving them the proper seeding.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
You know, I never ask you this question, but I
will now It just dawn on me that Wes Miller
is a North Carolina guy. Did you know Wes Miller
at all? Because he was on the ledge I.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Think for yeah, I do not know Wes Miller.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
He's been very popular in the conversation for years done
of Chapel Hill because there's a lot of people that
were very in favor of him potentially being the coach
in North Carolina that the job that went to Hubert Davis,
and now that he has.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Had an opportunity at Cincinnati he faltered.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
There's still a lot of positive vibes about him and
it'll kind of be interesting to see what happens onim.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
He'll land somewhere, there's no doubt in my mind he'll
get a job, and there's a lot of openings right now.
But you know, I think that in this day and age,
as a coach doesn't make a difference how much, you know,
as far as exison os, it really doesn't make that
much of a difference. If you're a great recruiter going
into the living room of the child there a youngster
with mom and dad. It's all about the checkbook. It's

(11:42):
like how much money am I going to get paid?
That's what it's all about. And I don't think, you know,
the Cincinnati alums, they don't have the kind of money
that maybe the Kansas alums have. And I think they'll
ever be able to compete in the Big Twelve with
those kind of schools, it's tough.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
I wouldn't put it past them. Look, Cincinnati, it's not
like a non name school like they have cachet. They
have name value. People know their basketball team from the
Bob Huggins days.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
And even beyond that, like they've had a lot of
success on.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
The big old players.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
I mean that's before my time, but okay, the big
old play there and that's a but there are there
are things about it that people certainly love and appreciate.
They're just in Farewell under West and they need to
play better.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
You know, you live in the city.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
There's there's a higher expectation than what he was able
to deliver. They can get back to that, but I
think everybody has to make a decision on how they
want to compete and what their level is in terms
of their level of contribution to give their team the
best chance to win.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
No doubt about that. About the Miami the RedHawks, they
didn't have a Quad one win. They were two and
oho against Quad twos and the majority of the games
against Quad four teams, and obviously the loss to Ums
didn't help them. That was a Quad four loss. But
you know what, all in all, they were ranked this
is unbelievable tour, the sixty ninth in the Ken Palm
and strength of schedule and an overall rank of ninety three. Obviously,

(13:15):
he doesn't do any good for them, But basically that's
what they've given. They're in that conference. The Mid American
Conference is that way. I watched the Mid American Conference
finals last night, Toledo and Akron. All Right, it's a
different brand of basketball. I mean, you're watching Houston play
against Arizona and you're watching Toledo play Akron. It's two
different animals, it really is. I mean, I enjoyed basketball,

(13:37):
but it's a different kind of basketball. You're stepping up
a notch watching Arizona and Houston play. And that was
a good game. Or Duke that Duke Virginia game last night,
but it was exciting. Guy from Akron, Baum's a three
point there with about six seconds to go. When Akron wins,
and they're gonna go because they won the tournament. And
I gotta believe they're gonna take two teams. They gotta
take two teams in that conference. The second team will

(14:00):
beat Miami, I'm sure of it. So accrid to Miami
will be representing them in America.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
A lot of it depends on how many other upsets
take place in tournament, how many of these automatic bids
are secured by teams that weren't necessarily on the radar.
I think that I have a lot to do with
the Miami.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Situation and some of the other bubble teams, you know,
because some of these teams are already locked in right
due to where they finished in the position, the scheduling
and those things. So they are only about five or
six spots that are legitimately open, and we'll see how
those things play out today with the conclusion of a
few other college conference tournaments.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
I will say this, I watched that Big East one,
and like, I got to say that Saint John's owns Connecticut.
They beat him by twenty last night, seventy two fifty two.
I mean, and Connecticut right now, I mean, I love
watching Danny Hurley coach because he's out of control. He's
out of control on the sidelines, he really is. And
more than that, they got some problems right now, losing

(15:01):
to Marquette before the end of before the tournament started,
and now they dropped this one. They were just out
of it from the get go against Saint John's last night.
And I would say this, you know, I don't have again,
no rooting interest there. I am from New York, and
I like to see Saint John's go further in the
tournament sermaply because I think it's good for the conference.
I think it's good for college basketball that New York

(15:23):
has a strong team and the Big East has a
strong team out of New York. I mean, it's a
lot better for Saint John's to do well than a
school like Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska. I think it's good
to have the big media market like New York with
Saint John's. It's good for the conference, it's good for
college basketball.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
Well, what's different about Saint Johnny's being good is they
don't have football, and so they were able to take
all the money, all the raps share money goes to
the basketball team. They were able to build a more
competitive roster. Rick Patino has said that as it relates
to Rick Patino and Saint john taking on Yukon, the
last time they played Yukon before the tournament appearance, Yukon drumdum,

(16:04):
and they missed their last twenty four shots.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
You knew that was going to play a factor.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
And the way that they played and competed, you just
had to know that they were not going to be
satisfied with having that bad taste in them out.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
I will say this any way. You make a great
point that basically they don't have football. But take a
look at the Big East. Most of the teams don't
have football and they're not doing well. Providence, Marquette, Creighton, Georgetown,
they don't have football either, and you would think that
the question's no football, all the moneys would be kind

(16:37):
of funneled into basketball. And they do well, and they're
not doing well. So you got to get Patino a
lot of credit. But more than that, he's got that
big alarm with the big check book. That helps a
lot too.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
It certainly does. Big checkbooks are always.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
Welcome, and he does have that and it's been a
big part of the success.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
And then he's a terrific coach.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Let's just be honest, like coaching matters when we get
into this part of the season and you can just
see the cream rise to the top.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
You know, you talk about coaches, and you know that's
right up your ally. I mean, you look at college
basketball and the teams that basically are out there every
single year and compete great coaches. Who do you think,
honestly right now is the best coach in college basketball?
Because I think you look at Gonzaga. They get no
credit whatsoever, and they're there every year when the bell rings,

(17:30):
the Gonzaga's right there. They never make it to the
top of the mountain, but they get pretty darn close.
And you know it's going to be the coaching because
really and truly, I think it's gotta be a difficult
place to recruit basketball players. Maybe now with the money
it's different, but you know, a kid really, does he
really want to go out there at the Gonzaga I

(17:51):
don't know, but you tell me, I think that he's
got to be one of the best coaches in the country.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Yes, but then I'll also say he doesn't have to
see the heavy hitters each and every week that some
of these coaches have to see. You playing the SEC.
You play in the Big twelve. Uh, you're seeing a
ton of teams. I mean, we can throw the names
of coaches around. I mean John in the SEC. John
color Party is great, NATO's is great. You think about

(18:19):
the job that got the coach from Florida, Tommy Gordon, young,
young coach, but Florida he's great. Like then you think
about the old heads around the country. We can say
we want to about Danny Hurley with Rick Patino, on
and on and on.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
There are a bunch of great coaches, but I would
say the best coach man. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Man, you kind of have to say in a weird way,
you have to say Patino because the national titles and
the way he's entered every spot.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
Right, right, you know what, it's right. You can't get
away fromhim because every school he's been to, from a
Providence to Louisville to Kentucky. Even in the NBA he
did well with the Knicks. He did.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
Yeah, Like you kind of have to give him his
his props for being who he is, even though some
people hate him like he he definitely deserves to be
in that thing hate hi because he wins.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
And it's hard to believe that he's like seventy three
years old and still coaching. He sits it into it.
He's he's adapted. A lot of guys can't do that,
but he's adapted.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
He really has.

Speaker 1 (19:19):

Speaker 1 (21:02):
All right, dude, one NFL team make a mistake, Well
that's right around the corner. Good morning, everybody. This is
Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. We're broadcasting life
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. He's Bucket Brooks and
Andy Furman and by the way, for over forty years,
ty Iraq has been helping customers find the right tires
for how, what and where they drive. Ship Fast and
free back by free Road has a protection with convenient

(21:24):
installation options like mobile tire installation, tire rack dot Com.
The way tire bind should be, the way football should
be spoken about and written about. He's the man, former
pro coaching scouting doing everything in the game of football.
Bucket Brooks. Here he is. We're gonna have to ask
Bucky in about ten minutes. But here's the question I have.
Let's talk about this Max Crosby thing. How did that

(21:46):
go wrong? Because to Eric the Costa, the general manager
of the Baltimore Ravens, said that he had some big plans.
He said that he was talking to Trey Hendrickson's agent
on Monday, the day before Max Crown. He even added
the building on Tuesday. He said he wanted to pair
both of them on the Ravens. And what happened with Crosby.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
So what standard in the league is you always have
to have a physical UH when you have a trade
right and if the trade doesn't become official until the
parties passed their physical and then you can agree to
the terms on the deal and those things. Well, Max
Rosby makes his way to Baltimore. Baltimore's medical team UH
decides that they deem him unfit to be able to play.

(22:33):
So they're given the option of being able to resend
the trade. Step away from the trade now. According to
Eric Pacosta, they were simultaneously talking to Trade Henderson.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
They wanted to pay those guys together.

Speaker 4 (22:45):
But in my time around the league, I've never seen
anything like this where you have a trade and a
quick signing, bang bang back to back.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
It just doesn't feel right.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
Even though we don't have anything that can that can
pin on the Ravens to say that, hey, what they
did was wrong or immoral or those things.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
It just smells fishy, right.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
But you know what, though, is you're a fan, and
especially if you're a Cincinnati Bengal fan. I mean, this
is great because right now they got to p o
Trey Hendrickson. Bengal's gonna face him twice in the division
and basically he's not really happy how he was treated
with the Bengals, so you know he'll take it out
on Joe Burrow. There's no doubt about that. And I
don't think that the offensive line on Cincinnati could have

(23:28):
an easy task stopping him going after Joe Burrow's knees.
That's for sure. The Ravens went for the kill. That's
what they did.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
They did. They did good for the kill.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
But the biggest albatross around the deck has been their
pass rush or locked their up, so they wanted to
address it first, Max Crosby.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Then with Trey Hendrickson. One thing we talked about Trey Hendrickson,
he's been one of the best in the biz for
a long time.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Since twenty twenty one, he ranks near the top of
the charts in the categories that matter percentage, He's second, sacks,
he's fourth. Ye had sixty one sacks over the last
four years. And this is guy who has missed some games,
but when he is there, in available, he's able to.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
Get it done. Well, you've seen it. You've seen it.
There's a big addition for him.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
You know, you talk about going for the kill. Let's
not forget what the Raiders have been doing, at least
trying to do. They probably gonna dreft Fernando Mendoza as
quarterback as the first pick. Okay, but they got the
Pro Bowl setre Linda Baum painting big Bucks. Right now,
they're feeling pretty good about their future. Crossby's over there.
So I think the Raiders right now have a pretty
good future ahead of them. I think they do.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
I mean, yeah, they have a great I would say
that they're well positioned to make a run, not this year,
but the next year. In the coming years they do.
They went out and had a great free agent class.
Mendoza is gonna be the presumptive number one overall pick
to lend the bomb, and those guys brought over, particularly

(25:01):
the defensive guys on to Kobe, Dean Kwai Walker to
bring back Max Crosby. Nam's a team that has a
different feel, a different competitiveness to it. You have to
feel good about that if you're a rageous fan, right you.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Know, I want to switch this right now to a
different sport. Because we talk about records and record books,
and you know, I've gone back and forth with myself
on this situation. Was Bam out of Betos? I mean,
he had eighty three points the other day we wrote
the record book, and you say, what's wrong with this list?
Will Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant at bam Adebato and I don't

(25:41):
get it, but it's true. We'll score one hundred points
of the game. Kobe had eighty one and last Tuesday
Bam scored eighty three and this guy and people are
saying it's a scam. It's a sham. And what I
don't care what you say. It's almost like Miami University.
You win thirty one games. I don't care if you're
playing the sisters are poor, you're winning thirty one games.
He had thirty one points in the first quarter, forty

(26:01):
three points to half. Give him the give him the
credit he deserves. I'm shocked that he did it. Guy
never averaged twenty points a game, but he did it.
And look, I think that he had a lot of
help with his coach. I mean, there were fouling players,
and honestly, I don't think I'll ever do it again,
but I give him a lot of credit and I'm

(26:21):
not taking anything away from it. The first first I did.
I think people who are down on out of Bayos
eighty three points, they did down because he passed Kobe Bryant.
That's why they're down.

Speaker 4 (26:34):
Yeah, they're down on him exactly because of that. I
don't cure who you're playing. I don't care what you're playing.
You scored eighty three points. That's very, very difficult to do.
And when you look at the game, people are talking
about the last four minutes and how that was handled.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
But look at the game.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
He had thirty one in the first quarter, he had
forty two and a half sixty plus seventy in the third quarter.
I mean he was on a heater, and they're talking
about the free throws and those things.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
The files. But he still has to go to the
line and knock them down.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Forty three free throws forty three. You know, and I
looked this up back in nineteen sixty two, when Will
Chamberlain scored one hundred points against the Knicks, he was
twenty eight for thirty two. See forty three free throws.
It's amazing, it really is. Look, I think it's tremendous
that he did it. He passed Kobe. Look, this is
not one of those records that people talk about every

(27:23):
single day. The fact that Chamberlain scored one hundred. No
one even talks about that. Now his name came up
because of what Bam did the other day. I mean,
I thought when Chamberlain did that, and I wasn't around,
I didn't see that game. I read about it. It
was in Hershey, Pennsylvania, it was on TV. No one
knew about it. As a matter of fact, when after
Bam did this, I had some photos of Chamberlain holding

(27:44):
a little cardboard sign with one hundred. They had no
video tam back then, and it was like, you know,
if you weren't there, people didn't even believe it. I mean,
it was a regular season game, but it was played
in Hershey, Pennsylvania against the Knicks. You know, you know,
it's the NBA was in the embryonic stage of that time.
No one knew, no one followed it.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
I know there are some people that believe that it
never happened because there's no proof, Like, there's no proof
that it happen, there's nothing. You just have word of
mouth and a little picture with Willed in one hundred, right.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
I think they're probably with no more than three thousand
people at the game. Anyway, it probably wasn't It's crazy.

Speaker 4 (28:22):
See really, that's kind of crazy to think that of
all the things that we've seen from a historical perspective,
that will score in one hundred, we've never.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
Seen that maybe one of the biggest feats, one of
the greatest feats in sports, and maybe no one will
ever accomplish that. I don't think they will, and no
one talks about it, and there's no proof to see it.
It's crazy, it really is. I mean, when you think
about that, they've had film. You know, you can watch
these old time films, black and white films of Babe
Ruth hitting home runs, like in nineteen twenty seven. You

(28:55):
see that all the time on TV, but not to have.
In nineteen sixty two, some so a film of Wilts
scoring one hundred points against Johnny Green had sent the
jumping Johnny Green out of Michigan State playing center for
the New York Knicks. But there's no evidence, Like you say,
no evidence. But this guy at a bio. He played
University of Kentucky. He only once averaged twenty points a

(29:17):
game in the NBA. He never even came close to
scoring fifty points, let alone eighty three. So I'm going
to give him the props that he deserves. At first,
I was down. I thought it was like a scan.
They were fouling at the end. Hey, the Washington Wizards
a triple team and this guy in the fourth quarter.
They really were so it was tough. But I had
no idea that his girlfriend is Asia Wilson, the four

(29:39):
time MVP of the WNBA, who basically is probably a
better shooter than he is.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
I mean, I think it's being disrespectful, I mean when
you're talking about that, But maybe she's a great player
and very supportive and the relationship is kind of cool.
Given the way they met and the way they interacted
at the Olympics, he's been everything. Three point performance certainly
took people by surprise because he's not one that you
would expect as a bucket getter to go.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
And put up those kinds of numbers.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
But when you watched it, and I happened to be
watching it, like, look, it was a legit performance. He
was on a heater and right, the last stuff kind
of made it. The shenanigans or whatever on both sides
made it where people didn't take it seriously. But if
you really watched the game, you have to tip your
had to how he played and how he was on one.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
You know, it's a lot better talking about that and
watching something like that than having the players not playing
with the tanking stories. So I was kind of happy
about that. So I'm convinced. I'm sold. I'm all in
on that. And you're talk about, you know, a guy
played for a team in Florida. Let's move along to
a football now, Tua Tua playing in Florida for the Dolphins.
No longer. He's going to Atlanta. And my question is this,

(30:50):
I mean, number one, why did they get rid of him?
And number two what about Michael Lennox Junior. I know
he's coming off that ACL surgery, So maybe they needed
a quarterback. But what was so bad with Tua? Why
is he gone from the Dolphins? Was it money?

Speaker 4 (31:05):
I mean it was a conversation and production didn't line up.
His conversation and his production certainly didn't line Today, over
ninety nine million dollars, they'll carry that in dead cap money.
But he didn't play well consistently for them in the
last couple of years.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
It's been a bit of a dud.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
And when you throw that with the injury history and
the amount of money he's making, you're a new regime.
That's the first place you look to clean up. Let's
get a better quarterback. Let's get someone who's gonna show
up all seventeen games and maybe provide better leadership in
the locker room than his predecessor.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
So there's two will come in. I know there was
no comment out of the Falcons. They said, both him
and Penix Junior, you're gonna have to compete for the
starting job. I know Pennick is a little bit behind
the eight ball because he's coming off the ACL surgery,
but did they bring into it to be the number
one guy? I would think with that kind of money.
They probably is going to be the number one guy,
and they may let Pennix watch to a play perhaps

(32:00):
I don't know, learn from him.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
I mean there'd be some kind of competition, but I
would anticipate too a teme a boy little being the
starting quarterback, even though you bring you in on a
one point three million other deal. His experience should give
him the nod and a competition between Michael Pennix.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Now you've been around you, you've seen this as both
a player and working with pro teams, pro NFL teams.
What does that do to a player who is drafted,
had the job and now may very well lose it
when they trade a quarterback for someone in your position?
You know, I think a player can go two ways.

(32:36):
He could sulk and get all poed, or he could
really get himself so I guess pumped up that say
this guy ain't taking my job. You know I'm going
to work my butt off. So you've seen that, haven't you.
I mean, it could work both ways.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
It can't work both ways.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
You hope that you get the ultra competitive version that
shows up the guy that is not willing to just
hand over received his position. If you get that then
you have a chance for it to be better for
everyone involved.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
But if you don't get that, then you just hand
in the job.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
Boy.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
Ultimately, it's on Michael Pennix to deliver the response that
he wants to deliver.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
If he wants to.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
Fight for the job, then he should step his game
up and be able to compete and fight for the job.
If not, we'll see to talk about Lowa step out
and run the team, a very talented team in Atlanta,
and he'll determine whether he continues on a QB one
if they have to go into the draft to find
another one.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
It's kind of sad, really, I mean, and sometimes I
think some of these trades are made as an emotional
move to maybe put a kickstart under the guy that
you already have, right, I would think so. I mean,
I was shocked that the Dolphins dumped on Tour. I
thought that guy's talented, I really did.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
I mean, he is talented. I mean, he was talented
enough to be a top ten pick, but he hasn't
played like an upper echelon quarterback and he's getting paid
to be an elite quarterback. And the worst thing that
you can do is pay someone to be elite and
they don't play at an elite status. And that's where
we're at with two. It was not playing like an

(34:15):
elite player, and it just makes it difficult to build
your team around someone who is overpaid, overvalued at the spot, no.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Doubt about that. He's Bucky Brooks and he's a leite.
On'm Andy ferman A Well live from the Fox Sports

Speaker 7 (35:22):
I am already Andy.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Special Edition Special Edition Oscars today.

Speaker 8 (35:28):
Oh, it is the special edition for the Oscars everybody.
It's not for Assbucky. And you know what, I have
my own first question on this first book. So, since
it is the Oscars, I don't know a whole lot
of movies that are going in by Do you know
one in particular which I thought was fantastic piece of
art here, Sinners? How many awards do we think that
Sinners is gonna total by the end of this book?

Speaker 4 (35:51):
Okay, so they have sixteen nominations. I'm going to say
they walk away with ten. I think they have a
very productive night.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
I think they end up winning ten out of the
sixteen they it nominated for.

Speaker 7 (36:01):
I like that. I like that answer. I think they're
gonna win.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Keep a recon of that. We'll keep score on this score. Yeah,
score please, because I want to prove to the world
that Bucky Brooks knows all football and everything else.

Speaker 7 (36:14):
Legit. No, I'll keep a record on that effort today, and.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
If he doesn't do well, forget if we won't talk
about it next week.

Speaker 8 (36:20):
As usually that is usually how I'll go, all right,
well next day, right, next up? First, we do have
a sports question here to kind of divvy it out.
So who will have more success next season? Gino Smith
as a Jet or Tua as a Falcon?

Speaker 4 (36:35):
Ooh, I would say two, because Tua has a better
overall team. Uh so give me two on that. Just
with Drake London and Kyle Pitts and b John Robinson,
he's just better set up to have success than the jests.

Speaker 8 (36:50):
All right, sweet, honestly I agree with that too. Just
Gino Smith as a jet?

Speaker 1 (36:54):
Yikes, now set time out for a second. Do you
see what Gino smiby. I love what these athletes say.
They don't realize how stupid it is when they talk.
It really is. He came back back. They just they
justs a lot better now than when I was there.
I mean, come on, really, I read these things. It's
like a comedy act.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
I mean, maybe maybe they are better now than they were.

Speaker 8 (37:15):
Well, stranger things have, in fact happened with teams, that's true.
We'll see though, But let's go back to the Oscar.
So uh, let's see, all right, Buck, here's the best picture?

Speaker 7 (37:28):
Who's gonna win it?

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Here?

Speaker 1 (37:29):
But Goonia f.

Speaker 8 (37:30):
One, Frankenstein, Hamlet, Marty Supreme, the Secret Agent, Sentimental Value,
Sinners Trained Dreams or.

Speaker 7 (37:39):
One battle after another? Who's gonna win the best picture?

Speaker 4 (37:44):
I've seen a few of those, and I'm gonna say
right now, man, it's gonna be hard to be like.
Sinners was really really good, really good. So I'm gonna
go with Centers on that.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
I think he's got that.

Speaker 8 (37:55):
Yeah, I think I think that's I think that's a
lot too personally. All Right, we're gonna go to best
actor here, So who go win Best Actor?

Speaker 7 (38:03):
Michael B.

Speaker 8 (38:03):
Jordan, Timothy Chela May, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke or Wagner Mouria.

Speaker 7 (38:11):
I'm probably butchering their last name. I'm so sorry. I've
never heard of them, which I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
Now the debates online are raging between Timothy shallow A
over Michael B.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Jordan. Michael B.

Speaker 4 (38:23):
Jordan was the star of Senators played a pair of twins. Uh,
I'm gonna with shell them me because I just don't
know if they're gonna give Centners everything. So I'm gonna
take Chlamy and probably one of the tightest races that
we've seen for that award.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
I'll be what I gotta go. I'm not voting for
any one of these things, but I'm going to MBJ MBJ.
I think Michael b. Joy's actually he's just got He's
got all the popularity in this corner too. I think
not only is he good, but I think that the
movie's gonna put him over the top. Sinners will put
him over the top.

Speaker 7 (38:52):
That's true.

Speaker 8 (38:53):
What you're not gonna vote for, Timothy.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
Don't even an I don't get it. I don't vote
for this.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
You should.

Speaker 7 (39:00):
Andy, come on, I'm.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
Looking to allow me to vote on Veterans Day there,
come on? Really? Gee? Oh lord?

Speaker 7 (39:08):
Fair?

Speaker 2 (39:09):
All right?

Speaker 7 (39:09):
So I got one more for us here. It's best Actress.

Speaker 8 (39:12):
Do we have Jesse Buckley, Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, Renaze, Rennave,
I'm sorry, I'm butcher Or And finally Emma Stone, who
gonna win that one, Bucky, let's work here, Kate Hudson. Yeah,

(39:32):
I'm thinking so too. It's what I'm here on Kate
Hudson worthy of it though she's worthy of it. That
is all my uh, that's all my Oscar related questions
for here.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
Let's see.

Speaker 7 (39:44):
Let's let's see you know, let's let's.

Speaker 8 (39:46):
Go with sports here, let's go with oh okay, I
got one off a fly. Let's go draft status here?
Do you over under running backs taken in the first round?

Speaker 2 (39:58):
At?

Speaker 8 (39:59):
Do we go over one or just stir under one
in the first round for running backs?

Speaker 4 (40:05):
Look, it's gonna push it one one. There's nobody else
that's going in the first.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
That's it.

Speaker 7 (40:13):
That's it, Jeremy Love.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Okay, that's interesting like that.

Speaker 8 (40:19):
Hm, Let's see, Oh okay, I got another one for
Do you think Max Crosby gets dealt a second time
or no?

Speaker 4 (40:27):
He's there, he's a Raider, He's a rated for at
least this year and probably beyond.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
Yeah, I want to see how serious is injury? You
see if he finishes the season over another you think
how many games will play? How many games will Crosby
play this year? Who's gonna play more games? Trey hendricksoner,
Max Crosby. That's the question.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
Max Crosby will played more? Really, damn you play He'll
play more, He'll play more interesting. They made him sit down,
They made him sit.

Speaker 4 (40:56):
Down the last two games, but he normally always plays.
I look and expect him to play interesting.

Speaker 1 (41:03):
All right, we do that. So that's the end of that.
You got the records at Patty, you got it written.

Speaker 7 (41:08):
I got the records. Yeah, I got it that next.

Speaker 1 (41:10):
Week, Okay, we'll do that. We got Bucky Brooks here,
We got Andy Fermer, got Patty, got Mark Ramsey. We
got everybody here. But I'll tell you what. We got
the Big Seven, the Big seven and so much more.
They're all yours right here on Fox Sports Sunday, coming
up right here next stay with us. Oh, they're no
longer a secret. We'll give you names that coming right out.
Good morning, everybody. This is Fox Sports Sunday on Fox

before I introduce my partner in front, Bucky Brooks, be

Just search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube and you see

(41:55):
who takes you don't like. Just search Fox Sports Radio
on YouTube and subscribe. All right here he is the
man himself, mister Bucket Brooks, mister football, how are you
buck Big day today? Big day?

Speaker 2 (42:08):
Yeah, big day to day. Really excited about it.

Speaker 1 (42:11):
Selection Sunday they got the NBA going on World Baseball
Classic and you got Venezuela beating in Japan. I have
no idea. Look, I don't want to be one of
those guys saying that they should do this to shoot that.
I'm not going to be that kind of a critique
on a critic on that. But I wish the World
Baseball Class it could have been done at a different time.

(42:32):
I don't know when it could be done, but in
conjunction with March Madness, and also with spring training where
a lot of these players in the WBC opting out
because they didn't want to hurt themselves in the regular season,
there had to be a better time for that. Don't
you think I would think so?

Speaker 4 (42:51):
No? I mean I don't know when you go play
in January. No, to me, I think this is the
best time to play it. And I think it's the
best time to play because there are a lot of
people who are begin in and to get interested in
baseball because spring training is around, and to be able
to appreciate a different style of game.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
And watching some games.

Speaker 4 (43:07):
The other night, my son, we just talked about how
fun it is, how festive it is, the energies you
can feel through the TV.

Speaker 2 (43:13):
It's just a different thing. And we have been conditioned
that baseball.

Speaker 4 (43:18):
Baseball should be a very sterile environment, a game that
lacks a lot of outward emotion. And the World Baseball
Classic gets shown you that there's a different way to
play the game. And these teams across the world are
definitely playing a different way, a little more pizazz, a
little more fun, just a different experience for the viewer
when you're sitting back and watching these games.

Speaker 1 (43:40):
Yeah, and the traditionalists who follow baseball, they've put their
thumbs and their nose up when guys are flipping their
bats and whatever it may be, I have no problem.
I love that flipping. I think it's great. I think
it answered a little more of a excitement to the game.
I mean, I have no problem with that. I don't
know why people. I guess people who follow the game
back in the fifties and sixties, those are the same

(44:01):
people when you see films back in the day, they
used to go to baseball games with shirts and ties
and hats. Really they really did. I mean, things change,
You got to evolve with the times. I don't have
any problem whatsoever with bat flipping. A lot of people do.
I don't get it. I don't know why they think
it's a disrespectful thing, But I don't know what. What's
your take on bat flipping?

Speaker 2 (44:23):
Love it?

Speaker 4 (44:23):
Wish I could do it. It's the one thing that
I wish I could. I could play in the game
and do I would. I would be all about it.
Like I think it's great watching the Dominican, which is
gonna be a tough matchup for the United States. Watching
the Dominican and all their players uh Tatis and Vletimer
Guerero and Juan Soto. They have fun and in fact,
I was envious because they make the game looks so

(44:46):
much fun that you want to participate, You want to play,
you want to be a part of it.

Speaker 2 (44:50):
Yeah, it's been great to watch it is.

Speaker 1 (44:53):
It has been it really is. I love it and
I watch it. Usually I would listen to baseball on radio,
but this is making me watch it on TV. It
really is because I just want to see these guys
play and play together. Now I ask you a question.
I don't think I've ever asked you this before. You
got so many things kind of meshing together at once.
But I'm going to ask you if you had a
choice to go to a final four, the NBA Finals,

(45:15):
the super Bowl, the World Series, and I'll even throw
in the Kentucky Derby, and you were given like the
best seats in the house gratis you have to pay,
Where would you go? What will be the event? You'd
want to go to?

Speaker 2 (45:28):
Final four?

Speaker 1 (45:29):
When super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (45:30):
Yeah, the Final four would be the thing that I
want to do. And the reason why is because it's
the unknown. You get four teams, you don't know who's
gonna be there, you don't know how it's gonna play out.
To me, is a very unique experience. I would love
to go to a final four.

Speaker 1 (45:44):
I went to the Final four when the Cincinnati was
playing Michigan, and it was great because I was like
three rolls behind the bench. But I wouldn't want to
go to one of these events sitting up in the
balcony because you're better off watching it on TV. Then,
you know, you hate to be a pig, but that's
just the way I am a pig. If I'm going
to go, I want to get good seats, you know.
And even this day and age, the press box isn't

(46:05):
that good because press box and basketball used to be
courtside for the press. Not they shove the press upstairs
because they sell those seats on court side. So I
kind of kind of stopped going to college basketball games
because I'd rather watch it on TV. However, this is crazy.
When I went to see Caitlin Clarke playing, I drove
from Cincinnati to Bloomington, Indiana to see her play. When

(46:29):
Iowa played Indiana, Indiana gave me a court side seats.
That was great. Other than that, I mean, I was
thinking about that I might drive out there. What if
my ticket, my media pass was up on the bleachers,
but it was downstairs so that it worked out well.
And I hate to be a pig like that, but still,
in all you know, you want to get a good
view basically, that's it everybody does.

Speaker 2 (46:49):
Yeah, everybody wants to get a good view.

Speaker 4 (46:51):
You want to be able to see the game, you know,
if you make the trip, you want to be able
to see the game. You want to be able to
get close enough to kind of feel the passing and
the intensity from the players.

Speaker 2 (47:00):
Yeah, I understand that these next two weeks are great.

Speaker 4 (47:05):
When you talk about the weekend coming up, like, just
how many people are going to pay so closed attention
to basketball from Thursday through Sunday. It should just be
a lot of fun, a lot of fun. It's a
lot of fun to engage a.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
Lot of people. Don't go to work either of these
days Thursday and Friday, stay home from work, just make
it a holiday. They just don't go. Or if you
do go to work, you're busy on your computer looking
at the games. That's basically true is production, production goes down,
production wanes a little bit on Thursday and Friday. But
that's fine. You know, what are you gonna do? Just say,
out of curiosity, how many games do you go to

(47:37):
a year? I mean, I know you were involved with
the NFL, but other than that, do you go to
a lot of high school college games. We'll not much.

Speaker 2 (47:43):
It just kind of depends on where I'm at and
where I'm going. But I would love to take in
a game whenever I'm on on the road, whenever I'm
out and about.

Speaker 4 (47:50):
Yeah, I want to take it in. I want to
see what's happening, what's going up.

Speaker 1 (47:54):
That's when you're not going to the club in Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
Yeah right, yeah, Degitlemen's Club.

Speaker 1 (48:00):
Are you just going there for wings anyway? I know that, okay,
But we want to talk about the there it goes.
NFL is always in the news, no doubt about that,
and you've found some news there, Bucket Brooks. You did
the free agents that were overlooked, free agents that were overlooked,
the other Big seven, and you had that at NFL
dot com this week was great. First of all, why
were they overlooked? I kind of studied the seven that

(48:22):
were overlooked that you picked, and I think it may
have been either salary or age. It's a lot of
guys pushing thirty or even thirty. Is that the reason why?

Speaker 4 (48:32):
Uh No, I mean I just think overlooked in terms
of people not paying attention to them, not giving them
enough love in terms of their future contributions. So to me,
that's that's what we're talking about when we're talking about
overlooking certain aspects of the team and those six So
that's where that's where I was getting at.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
This may be the best work you've done. I really
mean that. And I love what you do on NFL
dot Com on a weekly baby, But you know you
have the drafts and the possible draft picks and things
like that that my drafts. That's okay, and that's worked,
there's no doubt in my mind. But when you pick
out seven guys that are overlooked as free agents, I

(49:14):
got to ask you. I wouldn't know where to start.
How do you do it? How do you do this situation?

Speaker 4 (49:19):
You go through and you look at all the lists,
and you look at some of the guys who can
give their team's major bang for their book and not
even looking at the contract, but guys who are great fits,
great pieces of the pulls in their respective squads.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
And I just went there on through and I.

Speaker 4 (49:35):
Looked at seven names, seven names that I haven't really
heard about buzzing on the newscast, whether it's radio or TV,
and I was like, hey, man, let's take this challenge. On,
Let's find some guys that are going to play very
very well unexpectedly.

Speaker 1 (49:50):
Do you get any feedback on this when people see
this list? Do other other teams contact you and say
good job? Or how do you get this?

Speaker 5 (49:58):
So?

Speaker 1 (49:58):
What are you talking about something like that? Did they
contact you at all?

Speaker 2 (50:02):
No, they won't hit me upon the immediate thing.

Speaker 4 (50:05):
You'll see some things later and people will talk about
things down the line if it's true or not true
or whatever. But I just believe like if if you
pour into it, you research it, most people can respect
that part of it, even if they disagree with the opinion.

Speaker 1 (50:21):
Right, I hear what you're saying. Let's take a look
at some of these guys. Because the first pick is
Pancake Pat and he's going back with his former coach
from Bolton where he's going to the New York Giants.
And I love the running game of the Giants right
now because I love Cam Scattabo. I mean, I love
that guy. I just think that he's all in one
hundred and ten percent effort every game. I really do.
So they got themselves now another I guess lead blocker

(50:44):
in the backfield, six time Pro Bowl fullback, Right, So
tell me a little bit more about Patrick.

Speaker 4 (50:52):
Well, to think about it, if you look at the
Baltimore Ravens, they rush for more yards than anyone else
the National Football League since Patrick has been their fullback.
He does a great job of blowing holes, paving the
way for the runners that are going behind him.

Speaker 2 (51:06):
And he brings a little bit of an attitude. And
given what.

Speaker 4 (51:10):
The Baltimore I mean, the Baltimore Ravens have been under
Jim John Harbar and what the Giants want to be
under him, he is able to convey some of those
messages on and off the field. But as a player,
he's everything that you look for in the lead blocker.

Speaker 2 (51:23):
That's why you have to have him. If you're one,
he seems you got to make sure that you fell
out with him.

Speaker 1 (51:28):
Okay, the guy was a former defensive tackle turned fullbacker.
Here's the thing I always thought, at least the last
decade or so, in the National Football League, the fullback
position has become like the dinosaurs become extinct. Why is
that teams don't have fullbacks now? I don't understand why.

Speaker 4 (51:44):
Well, when you put three wide receivers on the field,
one player has to come off and a lot of
times as to full back, and because teams weren't operating
under center, operating in.

Speaker 2 (51:52):
The gun, it was kind of a I won't to
say a meaningless.

Speaker 4 (51:55):
Position, but a position that was a low priority position.
People teams begin to think that, oh, we can use
one of our second or third tight ends to play
that role. And so there was a lack of appreciation
inside and outside the.

Speaker 2 (52:09):
League for the fullback.

Speaker 4 (52:10):
But when you look at the teams to run the football,
the teams that operating the center fullback is a big
part of the success. That's why you have to have
those big bangers at a full back spot.

Speaker 1 (52:19):
Okay, what are the teams at the top of you Hey,
what are the teams besides like the Giants right now,
looks like you're getting getting recard and it got the
cam in the backfield. They're gonna go to a power
running game right now, which basically Harbard did in Baltimore.
So he's gonna copy that offense. They're gonna do that
in New York. But what are the teams have a
fullback that they use. I'm just trying to think who

(52:39):
has a full I think the Chiefs have a fullback.

Speaker 4 (52:43):
I don't know about the teams, but I know John's
brother Jim and the charges. They operate with a fullback
because he just took alec ingold. He came from Miami
and joined them down there with Mike McDaniels. When you
look at the San Francisco forty nine ers, they have
a full back account check. Typically, if you're a team
that employs two back stuff or under center old school

(53:06):
Shanahan principals, you better have a full back in the vault.

Speaker 1 (53:09):
All right, there we go. So he's he's number one
out of the big seventh. You pick the guys that
were maybe overlooked, and they're no longer a secret read
blank and Ship a safety. Okay, now going to the Texans,
tell me about him a little bit. And these guys
aren't making a hell of a lot of money because
Patrick Ricard's making by two years seven point six mil,
and Blanket Ship's making. What does something like the twenty

(53:32):
four milis, which really and truly in this day and
eight for three years, it's not that much money.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
No, it's not that much.

Speaker 4 (53:39):
But what he is, man, he's a perfect traffic cop, former, undrafted,
made his way in Philly, get cracked rotation was really
solid over three four years as a starter, and he's
gonna take that same steady quality and he's gonna have
a defense that can be a little emotionally charged at
time in Houston. His ability to play as a center fielder,
he can come down herell in the box, He'll he

(54:00):
has everything. He is a really solid player. Most people
don't respect him because he just didn't end of the
league in a certain way.

Speaker 1 (54:07):
Okay, now you got the charges coming up here they
picked up. I believe I think you wrote about a
tight end. Who they get this tight end? I forget already.
Who they get you talk about? You say the Chargers? Yeah,
Oh they got Charlie Coolar.

Speaker 4 (54:21):
Charlie Cola, to tight end from Baltimore is the third
tight end in Baltimore, but he could play the number
two role in LA. And the reason why that role
is so important because typically when you have two tight
ends on the field, you have a flex guy and
a traditional why guy. The why guy does all the
dirty work.

Speaker 2 (54:36):
Well. Colar is a guy who actually comes.

Speaker 4 (54:39):
Over viewed as a little more of a blocking back,
but he has big time pass catching ability doesn't show
up in the numbers that you've seen like he hasn't
put up big numbers, but if you go back and
look at his tape coming out, man, he's a guy
who's sneaky, could get down the scene, could make things happen.

Speaker 2 (54:53):
He'll get opportunity to showcases is full. Arsenal as the
leader of the team.

Speaker 1 (54:59):
I may be missed though, but Colas, a pretty big guy.
Is in something like two fifty six to six something
like that. He's big.

Speaker 4 (55:07):
Yeah, he's big, and he's a really effective run blocker
and he makes it happen. But he can catch the ball,
he can get down the scene. It's just a matter
of opportunities. He'll get more opportunities with a quarterback. They're
a quarterback that really wants to attack the mid little field.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
Okay, Now, most of these guys we mentioned thus far
are pushing thirty all right, so they're kind of like
the in the peak of their career, but still in
all I guess they will let go. But we got
the Buffalo Bills picking up Chauncey Gardner Johnson one year
for six mil. This guy is going to help him
at safety, and I think that was one of the
weaknesses in that ball club. You know defensively, they had

(55:39):
some problems, So I think it's going to help him.

Speaker 4 (55:43):
He will help because he not only would bring a
veteran presence, but he brings a little edge to him.
If you've been around him, you ever seen him, man,
the swagger is infectious.

Speaker 2 (55:53):
You take on that.

Speaker 4 (55:54):
But also, man, he's an enforcer with great ball skills.
Two seasons in Philadelphia had twelve intercepts, six disappears, come
back and gets another six, so he understands how to
take the ball away. He goes to Chicago last year
in the middle year and helps that defense, kind of
makes some plays, finishes.

Speaker 2 (56:11):
It's the number one defense and turnovers and takeaways.

Speaker 4 (56:15):
Really good player, and he's feisty, and we think about
being feisty and physical. There's always a place in the
league for those kinds of guys.

Speaker 1 (56:23):
Now you would know this because you played the game. Now,
you played the position. Okay, what makes a guy a
great guy? To get it? Is it luck?

Speaker 5 (56:34):
You know?

Speaker 1 (56:34):
Getting interceptions in the National Footall League is a style
of play? Is it just watching the quarterbacks eyes? How
does one guy almost lead the league and interceptions? Yeah,
And he's always been known as a guy could get
a lot of interception. What separates him from other defensive backs.

Speaker 2 (56:53):
I would say it's a little bit of everything.

Speaker 4 (56:55):
It is the anticipation in tirement, is the diagnosis skills,
being able to diagnose what's going on. And then it
takes some courage to go for it, to put yourself
out there and to go for it. It does take
some courage, and he is willing to go. So I
dig it. Man, he's a terrific player and you have
to have some of those players to make it happen.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
All right, now, who's this guy on the Tampa Bay Bucks?
A defensive tackle like Quentin Muhammad? One year six million
dollars and they said the Bucks, as you wrote, eighteenth
most sacks in the league a year ago. So obviously
they're looking at the bolst of that. They have thirty
seven sacks the entire season last year. So they got this. Guys,

(57:36):
we'll see what's gonna happen right now. But a good deal.
What's to deal with him? I don't know anything about him.

Speaker 4 (57:42):
Yeah, No, it's a great deal. And it's a great
deal because he's gut his game right, Yeah, Like he
found his game and his game is about energy and relentlessness,
and the way he comes off has a little mix
of power and bursts that allow him to get there.
But the best thing that he does is he just

(58:03):
doesn't stop on the play. And when you don't stop
him the play, you have an opportunity to make.

Speaker 2 (58:08):
Dullas as on just garbage what they call garbage place.
He has that. That's why it's really going.

Speaker 1 (58:13):
Okay, Now, let's go to the Jets. Jet's get a
cornerback right now one year with the max value of
five point five million Nashaun White and uh, you know,
with the Jets right now, I guess anything would be
an improvement. I mean there's so many holes. I guess
that in that lineup, you know where they're going to

(58:34):
a Gino Smith the quarterback. I don't know if that's
gonna help them or not. I just don't know. I mean,
he had some years in Seattle which was successful. The
last year was a bus for him. I don't know.
But is right going to make a difference in the
backfield at corner Yeah?

Speaker 4 (58:49):
I mean yeah, he certainly make a difference. All those
guys will make a difference and it helps. Like some
people talk about the rush impact on the coverage. Some
people talk about the coverage impact in the rush. You
can't get enough for good players, and sometimes you need
these veteran players to come and fill in some of
these voice.

Speaker 1 (59:07):
All right, they call him. You wrote this said, he's
a rare fine because he's a natural bump and run
corner for morons like me. What does that mean? Bump
and run corner.

Speaker 2 (59:17):
Oh, he wants to get in your face. At Atlanta scrimmage.
He wants to bump you, he wants to run with you,
he wants to take away all the easy throws. He
wants to make you earn everything.

Speaker 4 (59:25):
And No Sean Wright is rarefied because he does have
the link and stuff to do that.

Speaker 2 (59:31):
At the Lina scrimmage.

Speaker 4 (59:32):
Not the fastest kid, but its instincts and awareness are
really good. You take that same mentality and put it
in play in zone where you can rough up a
wide receiver kind of take your time and cover two
and then release him and then read what the second
receiver inside receiver is doing it react off of him.
Very easy, teach you more, harder to abbit. It's easy

(59:57):
to teach a player like No Sean to do those things.
Harder to get some of that out of him.

Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
You know why I question if he's going to do
any good for the Jets because I don't look at
the way he played. I mean, you would know if
he's good bet or whatever it might be, because you could
tell you got the eye of that. I look at
the salary. I mean, you're getting five mil in this
day and age in the NFL. At five million dollars
a year, that's you know, just average, really maybe below average.

(01:00:23):
So you know, to me, you're getting five mili. You're
not that good. Maybe I'm crazy for saying that, but
five million dollars is bottom of the barrel salary, right.

Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
Yeah, I think you're crazy for seeing that. What you're
seeing in free agency, and this is what has come
out of it. You're seeing in the first twenty four
to forty eight hours people are signing these lucrative multi
year deals. After you get past that window and the
league year opens, everyone only cares about right now, just
this year, and you're seeing a rush, I mean a

(01:00:58):
tremendous amount of teams that are just signing guys to
one year deals because it's clean for both parties.

Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
You play well, you get paid.

Speaker 4 (01:01:05):
You don't I'm on to the next It just allows
you to focus on this team this year. You can't
start worrying too much about future years.

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
You mess it up.

Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
Okay, less but not least been going to rush through
this one a maze the set. They're going to the
Detroit Lions. Detroit Lions. He just said that their big
time center retired last year and this guy's getting three
years twenty five mil. Okay, he's probably decent, right, twenty
six years of age going to the Detroit Lions. Cad Mays.

Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
Yeah, I mean so like Mays comes over is a
guy who started a ton They need to solidify the
interior of their line. They want to get back to
bullying people at the point of attack. He gives them
some of that athletic nimble. Just a nice fit and
let's be honest, he hasn't given up a sack in
two years. So you have that kind of record on
top of the dimensions and being able to control the

(01:01:54):
for a dominant ring game.

Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
Yeah, you want to sign them up. He fits what
the lines are looking for.

Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
But out at least I talk about the Detroit Lions.
Have they peaked and are they going downhill now or
not going to see the success they've had over the
last three seasons, because they've lost a lot, and it's
just they're not going to be the same ball club.
And obviously that their offensive coordinating new coach of the Bears.
I think that was a tremendous loss for them. I
really do.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
I mean there's a lot of loss, But sometimes losing
a lot doesn't mean that it's gonna be all bad.
Sometimes things happen in transition. Looking to Patriots and how
many guys they brought in and yet they come within
a whisker of winning the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
So it can happen. It can happen pretty quick.

Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
That you got to have some luck, but you're going
to have all the things go your way for it
to get done.

Speaker 1 (01:02:41):

(01:04:05):

appreciate you, I respect the work that you do, and
I love hearing you. So I just want to say publicly,
I appreciate you. I do. All right, maybe I do
say this, but I do.

Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
Well, it's true, it comes from my heart. A lot
of people think I don't have one, but I do yao.
And a coming up in about ten minutes. But now
let's get into this football story because this is crazy.
The Minnesota Vikings signed quarterback Kyler Murray. I guess they
got him out of the room where he's playing the
video games. He was a free agent from the Arizona Cardinals.
So the question is, well two parts. Really, why would

(01:04:43):
the Vikings sign him when they have JJ McCarthy And next,
what's the status with JJ McCarthy, What happens to him?
What's going to go on here?

Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
Well, I love him.

Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
Move by the Vikings to sign Calum Murray Cala Murray's
number one overall pick.

Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Calum Murray is a unique athlete at.

Speaker 4 (01:04:58):
The quarterback position. Look This is the guy who was
a top ten pick in baseball given his baseball exploits
at Oklahoma, but it's number one overall pick in football.
He has played at a high level. He was the
offensive Rookie of the Year. He's two time Pro bowler.
The last three years have been a roller coaster ride
due to injuries and such, so he hasn't been able
to get on the field and really play consistently the

(01:05:21):
way that he played early in his career. But make
no mistake about it, when you put him and put
him on the conversation on the radar for your team
as the starting quarterback, he's going to be your starting
quarterback when he walks in. That's the expectation he's going
to have. That's the expectation that the team should have
for Jji McCarthy. You con teague to develop him, But
to me, this is a clear acknowledgment that you're worried

(01:05:44):
and concerned that he can't get your team over the top,
either through his own performance or his lack of availability.
He's opened the gap for that, and because he opened
the door, now it's on him to fix it.

Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
He has to fill And we talked about this early
on with two Pennix going to Atlanta and two is
over there, and it's going to be a battle to
see who's going to be the starting quarterback. I think
it's a little different here in Minnesota. Kyler Murray's got
the job. I don't think it's going to be a
race to see who's going to be the starting quarterback
because McCarthy had his chance and basically he didn't get

(01:06:17):
the job done. Really, So the problem is right now,
as far as Minnesota's concerned, would other teams trade for
JJ McCarthy. In fact, would the Minnesota Vikings even trade him?
So that's the question right now because I think the
quarterback job for the Minnesota Vikings right now belongs to
Kyler Murray.

Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Yes, that's a safe assumption.

Speaker 4 (01:06:39):
And when they see the talent play out, he's more
talented than JJ McCarthy. Even though I like JJ McCarthy,
Caler Murray is a superior talent. And when you see
the talent, the toughness, and then you see how koc
mix it up his tactics, there's a lot of success
on the horizon for Calamarray Company.

Speaker 1 (01:06:56):
Okay, And right now you've got to admit that the
Vikings made a mistake. They made a mistake getting rid
of Sam Donald in place of JJ McCarthy. Sam Donald flourished, okay,
And I think that maybe Kevin O'Connell, the coach of Minnesota,
who's an offensive genius, maybe thought maybe too much of
himself where he thought he could develop JJ McCarthy into

(01:07:16):
a first rate quarterback, which he could not, And he
didn't do much passing when he was in Michigan. They
should have known that. Don't you think that was a
running offense in Michigan.

Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Yeah, I think it's important that you put guys in
roles that they're comfortable with. And for J. J.

Speaker 4 (01:07:30):
McCarthy, he was a game manager who was effective running
Michigan's offense.

Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (01:07:35):
When you looked at the numbers. He was really good
on third down, he's really good in the red zone.
He just didn't get it done. I mean he didn't.
I mean, to whom much is given, much is required,
and he didn't live up to his status.

Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
Is a tough up pick.

Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
The problem with Kyler Murray, I don't think is his
football skill level. I think it's everything but football, because
I think he's gotten the bed rap and maybe on
his own maybe it's because of what he has done
or not done that he went to his own private
room in Arizona. Who's playing video games over there? But
if you look at the stats, and I got some
stats here comparing JJ McCarthy to Kyler Murray since twenty nineteen,

(01:08:16):
Kyler Murray has a completion rate of almost sixty eight
percent and JJ McCarthy fifty seven percent, that's it right there.
I mean, basically, Kyler Murray is the better player. And basically,
also if they did trade JJ McCarthy, you got to
admit that the Vikings would fail and have failed to
land the franchise quarterback that they wanted in the twenty

(01:08:38):
twenty four draft.

Speaker 4 (01:08:41):
Yeah, this is tough, right, So so many different things.
So JJ McCarthy, I think he's more talented. Didn't you
give him credit for? There are a lot of people
who couldn't see through some of the stuff that he
was having to deal with in Michigan in terms of
power renting attack, being able to stay locked in and
focus on the tasking hand out of some of that.
When it comes to now, it's about being able to

(01:09:04):
take what koc wants.

Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
From him and make those x's and os come to life.
Do one thing we know about.

Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
KOC he can take a different style quarterback and find
a way to be successful.

Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
He's been successful with JJ McCarthy. JJ McCarthy's because issues.

Speaker 4 (01:09:15):
He hasn't been around, just hasn't been around to become
a part of the team. So there's a disc I mean,
there's just a bit of a disconnect between him and
the team simply because like either faulty execution.

Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
Or just lack of experience.

Speaker 4 (01:09:30):
But clearly there's a disconnect between him and the star players.

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
I would say this, I think there's a little bit
of an advantage right now for JJ McCarthy over column arena.
Number one. He knows the offense, which I don't know
if makes that happens for a difference, but at least
he has that been there, knows that. Number two. I
think he has a better off season than he had
a year ago because he's got about eight to ten
games under his belt as an NFL quarterback, which he
didn't have going into last year. So he's got that

(01:09:56):
going from And also, I read this or maybe you
could help me out with this one. He has decided
to work now in the offseason with former NFL quarterback
John Beck. All Right, what's the deal with John Beck?
I mean he's he like one of those guys who's
an outstanding teacher of quarterbacks. Have you heard of him?

Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
No, I remember John Beck going all the way back
to when he played at BYU, Like, Yeah, he's a
solid teacher. He's been with a lot of guys who've
gone on to the pros. And what Beck can offer
that NFL assistants can't do is they can't he can
coach them.

Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
He can coach them as much as he wants.

Speaker 4 (01:10:31):
NFL coaches are restricted, so it's all on him and
what he wants to do, what they're trying to get done,
how often they're trying to get it done. Yeah, So
that's that's the main that's the main deal. He's just
trying to make sure you get everybody on board, make
sure he understands clearly what Kevin O'Connor wants, and he's
he's reiterating those same points.

Speaker 1 (01:10:51):
You know, it's funny because coaches say one thing to
the public and to the media, but they do other
things when they're at practice. You know that there's just
the nature of the beast. That's what happens. And you know,
you hear the situation at Atlanta with Tua and Penix.
They're going to compete for the job. Well they may
in the minds of guys like me or all the fans,
that ain't gonna happen because it's all about who gets

(01:11:13):
the most first team reps in practice. That's what it's
all about. And if JJ McCarthy does not get those reps,
he ain't gonna be the first team quarterback, you know.
And I don't think he's going to get the reps.
I think that Kylin Murray is getting the reps, and
I think two is probably gonna get the reps right now,
surely because Pennix is coming off the ACL. Isn't that
the truth? They can say whatever they want to say,

(01:11:34):
but it's all about practice and who gets the reps.

Speaker 4 (01:11:38):
I mean, yeah, it is all about that because it
sets the table for how you're going to build the team, right, Like,
if he's getting all the reps, then you're giving him
all the opportunity to build the team around. You're looking
at everything you experiment is to travel an error part
of it all. So yeah, if we're trying to make

(01:12:01):
assumptions based on practice.

Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
Yeah, look at the reps. The reps tell you everything.

Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
Whoever gets to most reps did the ones that they're
really trying to get ready to play?

Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
Interesting?

Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
Now, now here's the big question of the day. Will
other teams be calling on the Minnesota Vikings to trade
for JJ McCarthey, what do you think? Because there are
a lot of teams out there that need a big
time back up. I don't think he's ready to go
on a maybe. I don't know. We'll see what I mean. Look,
the Colts last year, the replaced Anthony Richester with Daniel

(01:12:32):
Jones before Richeson's third season. Maybe the Vikings are going
down the same route over here with JJ McCarthy. I
don't know. Well, And there is veterans available that maybe
Minnesota could pick up as backups, Tyrod Taylor, he's going
to be available, right. So do you think other teams
are going to be calling Minnesota for JJ McCarthy services.

Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
I don't know if they canna be knocking them down.

Speaker 4 (01:12:56):
I think a lot of it happened like later, so
after the draft, after mini camps, after training like after
training camp is underway, depending on injuries and those things,
But I don't think there'd be a robust market form
right now. If anything, this would be the worst time
to sell them because everyone knows that you're not in
love with them, and he hasn't given I would say,
the football world enough to clamor over his services. This

(01:13:20):
is not the time to do it, but there will
be some calls eventually, wants to, you know, to dust settles.
Once some of these quarterback competitions provide a little more clarity,
then you will be able to kind of see how
the dominoes would impact what JJ McCarthy's future looks like.

Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
You know, now the truth is coming up because I
read some reports during the week they said during the
twenty twenty four draft and during the pre draft evaluation
process that year, m was it the Vikings, I guess,
and O'Connell basically was involved. I guess with this as well.
He loved Drake May and Jayden Daniels and they would

(01:13:57):
take them by the Patriots and the Commanders, and then
once those guys would pick, the Falcons picked up Michael
Pennix Junior, and the Vikings were left with JJ McCarthy
and Bone Nicks and they picked McCaughey.

Speaker 4 (01:14:10):
Yeah, but like you can't let koc off the hook
like that. And I like him, but he had to
say there's no general manager who would pick a quarterback
without the head coach or the offensive coordinator giving the
thumbs up. So even though you can like Drake May
and Jayden Daniels, he knew there was no.

Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
Way that those guys were going to drop to him.
So that's right.

Speaker 4 (01:14:31):
Whoever put this out there is trying to make good,
but that doesn't make any sense like that, you know
what it was. Everyone had those guys as a top three,
four or five pick. There's no way they were getting
down in the Missoka.

Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
And I'll say this, you know, and I maybe going
on a ledship by saying it. I don't think any
Kyler Murray means is the dun deal. As far as
when I say dundal dundeal for success, I don't think
he's going to leave Minnesota to the Promised Land right away.
I mean it could be Kevin O'Connell's the guy that
could really get it done for him. And I think
there's a lot of more in the mind of Kyler
Murray because he got a bad rap all along in Arizona.

(01:15:06):
I think he could do it, but there's a lot
of pressure both on O'Connell and Kyler Murray.

Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
Uh yeah, both of them.

Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
And I'll say this, he has to make sure that
his preparation, his study habits are up to par Kyler Murray.
That is because if his study happens are up the
part and he's prepared and focused, there are few that
have what he has in terms of talent wise, and
I think that is really critical for Kevin O'Connell is

(01:15:35):
can you do something different? Can you step outside your
norm and have success? You had success with Kirk Cousins
and Sam Donald. Can you do it with a different
type quarterback without completely overhauling your system, but building a
system that showcases some of the things that Kyler does
very well?

Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
There we go. He's Bucky Brooks and Andy Ferman and
we all live for the Fox Best Radio Studios. And
by the way, one team win New Unis We'll see
if that's yay or nay. Next are yay or a
coming right up? It's about eleven minutes before the top
of the hour. This is Fox Sports Sunday. He's bucking
Brookes up any ferment you know what, well live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios, and we got a yayo

(01:16:16):
n a and a guy Patty's gonna handle it. Let's
get it going past. Okay, let's rack those brains, gentlemen,
these stories needed.

Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Is I think we need a ruling on this yay
or nay?

Speaker 8 (01:16:29):
Yes, yes, yes or no in this regard because it
is yeah or nay. You don't have to say yes.
You can say no on this too, but that is
right to yes or no. Why I like yay or
nay sounds better because the rhymes. I like it, Oh
good point Yeah. Also because nay because you can be
like a horse, you know.

Speaker 7 (01:16:47):
Never mind.

Speaker 8 (01:16:47):
Anyways, anyways, it's time for yea or na everybody, let's
get right into it. So the Tennessee Titans went for
the love You blue white helmets went for the went
for the love yet white blue helmets a sort of
kind of a throwback to the Houston Oilers, right, but
it's not really Houston because they're in Tennessee now, So
that's their new uniforms.

Speaker 7 (01:17:08):
Are we yeay or nay? On this new kind of
look for the Titans?

Speaker 8 (01:17:12):
Here?

Speaker 7 (01:17:12):
Are we yeah or nay?

Speaker 1 (01:17:13):
Andy, I say, yay. I love the color I love
that powder of blue. I remind you to Houston Oilers,
but sometimes it changes good anyway. I think they need
a change. I like to change. I like the colors,
and bringing it back the past is kind of cute.

Speaker 5 (01:17:26):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
Boy, people calm down a little bit weird geez.

Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
Yeah, No, I look, I dig it. I love the
color ways.

Speaker 4 (01:17:34):
I think that the Oilers had great uniforms back in
the day, the love You Blue era.

Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
They bring that back.

Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
They find a way to update it with the Titans logo.
Hats off to them. It's been a long time coming,
but it's nice. It's nice to this here.

Speaker 7 (01:17:48):
I actually like them too as well, and I think
they're actually pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
Oh you're just afraid to go against us.

Speaker 8 (01:17:54):
No, I actually I'm just gonna matter of fact, I
could go againstee. I'm nay on you right now and
firm and I'll tell you what.

Speaker 7 (01:18:02):
All right, we're gonna move on. You know who else
may be nay on this. We're about to find out.

Speaker 8 (01:18:06):
So Florida coach John Summral has a new appreciation for
the Gator chump he got his dad and snapdat while
posing for promo pictures with a and I quote a
live alligator last week.

Speaker 7 (01:18:19):
Are we your nay on this, Bucky?

Speaker 2 (01:18:24):
That's a lot.

Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
I understand the toughness, and I appreciate that, but be careful,
be careful when it comes to that.

Speaker 1 (01:18:31):
I say, nay, this guy's out of his mind. I
wouldn't go anywhere near a live alligator. Are you kidding me?
I know what's the promotion you know with AI? Right now?
Why couldn't they do with AI? Why do you have
to get a live alligator? I don't get it.

Speaker 7 (01:18:45):
I don't heat there.

Speaker 8 (01:18:47):
I would have got a stuffed animal, like a plushy gator.
Would have been like, oh cool. At least you're not
gonna get a bid, right, I.

Speaker 1 (01:18:54):
Mean, you get a stuff a stuffed alligator. It would
serve the same purpose. Right, What are you need a
live alligator for?

Speaker 2 (01:19:01):
I don't know.

Speaker 8 (01:19:02):
Just then count me out on that one too, all right?
So then, so speak we go from alligators to soccer.
So Spanish soccer team Celta Vigo is desperately seeking Madonna
as it goes in search of a thirty six year
old soccer shirt she wore during a nineteen ninety concert
at the Belidos Stadium. She wore the shirt on stage
one in the club's true blue colors during a Humor

(01:19:24):
Blonde Ambition tour in July nineteen ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
Are we yea or nay on this, Andy Furman, I
say nay. You know why, they're a bunch of liars.
They're not after any T shirt. They want Madonnas. They
want to see her. They don't want any T shirt,
believe me.

Speaker 7 (01:19:39):
Good.

Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
To be honest, it's a knee Who the hell wants
a freaking T shirt that's thirty six years old?

Speaker 8 (01:19:44):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
They want to see Madonna, that's what they want to see.

Speaker 4 (01:19:48):
I mean I'd like T shirts. I mean I would
be over for good, you know what I'm saying, Like
just having a souvenir. That's the whole point of going
to the thing. So I don't know, Like maybe a
T shirt is good.

Speaker 8 (01:20:00):
Honestly, I like T shirts too, so that's all you need,
like T shirt? I'm in playing Seriously, you got a
point there, so, uh, you know what, maybe a little bit,
who knows? Maybe maybe I am well, speaking of out
of your mind. We have two teenagers who mistakenly left
a knapsack containing marijuana and cash had a designation, their

(01:20:24):
designation outside of New Zealand. Charity shop then returned in
a panic to retrieve, said bag, are we your nay
on this, Bucky.

Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
Man? That's a lot for teenagers. I'm a nay on
it because I don't like I don't like their involvement
in it. But that is a lot. That's interesting. That's
a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
Well, you know, I'm gonna say yay, and I'll tell
you why they had the heart to go to a
charity shop at and make a donation. They had no
idea what they were donating, but they made a donation, right,
don't you think it's gonna be a ya because they
went to a a charity shop and they say, look,
we were heartfelt. We're gonna donate our bags to you,
but we had no idea what was in the bags.

(01:21:07):
And really and truly this charity shot could have made
some big stash with the marijuana, but they didn't. So
who knows what I should?

Speaker 7 (01:21:15):
They should have had a wisonator donated to them after that?

Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
Right, All right, there we go? All right? Well, a
shoe fit that's next right here on Fox? Stay, Oh
are they good fits?

Speaker 8 (01:21:26):
Well?

Speaker 1 (01:21:26):
We'll tell you that in just about a minute. Good morning, everybody.
This is Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. He's
Bucket Brooks. I me Andy Furman, and you know what.
We're broadcasting a lot from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
And you know what, Also, be sure to subscribe to
the Fox Sports Radio YouTube channel. Just search Fox Sports
Radio on YouTube, and you see our best videos from
all of our shows. And don't stop there. Hit that

(01:21:47):
thumbs up. I can and comment the way. Let us
know whose takes you like and whose takes you don't like.
Just search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube and subscribe. All right,
it is a selection Sunday, and about maybe twenty twenty
five minutes from now, we'll talk to Miami University basketball
coach Travis Steele. And I am sure some people think

(01:22:07):
that they're going to be on the outside of looking
at I don't think so, Bucket Brooks, you're with me
on that. You see, definitely they're in the tournament. They
got to be maybe thirty one wins, you got to
be in the tournament. They're there, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (01:22:18):
Absolutely. I mean, you just think about all the things.
It's just so hard to win games. Uh, look, in
college basketball. To go thirty one, to go undefeated during
the regular season, you definitely going to be there.

Speaker 1 (01:22:32):
No doubt about that. Okay, I just got this brainstorm.
I know it's scary, it really is. I want to
get Patty involved and Mark if you if you're wide
awake me, we'll get you involved too. Not to embarrass anybody,
but I just got this thought process. We talk about
players all the time. We're talking about JJ McCarthy and
Kyler Murray and you know, pro players and franchise quarterbacks whoever.

(01:22:53):
It may be the one thing that sells in sports,
the one thing what do we always talk about?

Speaker 5 (01:22:58):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
It is?

Speaker 1 (01:23:00):
The word superlatives? What is that the best, the worst,
the longest, the deepest, the highest, whatever. Maybe think about
that every time you watch a sporting event or you
write about it, you read about it. That's the longest
losing streak, is the most most hits, the guy gets,
is the best player, It's the longest, highest, whatever may be.
It's all about superlatives. So I want to go around

(01:23:22):
and ask everybody here, who are the best in their minds?
In three major sports, the NFL, Major League Baseball, and
the NBA. Superlatives, who are the best, the best players,
give me more than one if you like the best
in each sport. Okay, and I'm gonna stew my guy,
Bucky Brooks. Let's go with the NFL superlatives, right, the

(01:23:43):
best players all time? Well, maybe the best players now,
whatever you want, just the best players in your mind
in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
The best player all the time. I'm just picking one.

Speaker 1 (01:23:54):
You make it best. It's hard to get one, I
would think.

Speaker 4 (01:23:57):
Okay, alright, so I just look, I'll just picked I'll
pick one. I'll pick one in the NFL. I'll just
say Pat Mahomes is the best player in this this
era right now, Pat Manta.

Speaker 1 (01:24:08):
All right, I hear what you're saying, Patty, you got anything.

Speaker 3 (01:24:10):
For us on that?

Speaker 5 (01:24:14):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
Okay, he's playing the restsator, Mark Ramsey, you got anything?

Speaker 5 (01:24:19):
No?

Speaker 7 (01:24:21):
What's going on, Eddie?

Speaker 1 (01:24:23):
I wondered if you could pick a superlt A best
player in various sports. We're going with the NFL. Best
player in the NFL, either now or all.

Speaker 9 (01:24:31):
Time, best players player now or all time, well both,
whatever whatever you want, best player, best player, any sport,
any sport, and we'll go.

Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
With the NFL We're gonna go with the others after this.
I'm just curious. Best player, best player. I'll go with
Walter Payton Good.

Speaker 8 (01:24:51):
I'll go with my favorite player of all time. It's
not current actively right now, but Marshawn Lynch running back
to the Seahawks. It's my favorite player of all time.

Speaker 1 (01:25:00):
Yeah, but it's is he the best? Is your best player?

Speaker 8 (01:25:03):
He's no, he's not the best, but he's my personal favorite.
I mean, I would say the best player of all
time would have to be the.

Speaker 1 (01:25:10):
Best player like BUCKYE Bucky Patrick Mahomes best player, current
best current, best your choice all the time with current current.

Speaker 8 (01:25:18):
Right now would be best player would be Patrick Mahomes
all time. I would say torn between Dion Sander not on,
Barry Sanders or Adrian Peterson.

Speaker 1 (01:25:30):
Huh, gotta go. I'm gonna go. Okay, the NFL is
best best player all time? Going with Jimmy Brown. Jimmy
Brown running back of the Cleveland I just think he
was the best. I mean, I saw films of this guy.
They couldn't bring him down today.

Speaker 5 (01:25:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:25:44):
I maybe even Barry Sanders in there too. Personally right now,
I don't even I can't pick up best player right now,
all time, a present day, but I got Jimmy Brown.
Let's go to Major League Baseball, Major League Baseball best
player either present day or all time or both, whatever
you want. Bucky Brooks.

Speaker 2 (01:26:03):
NBA best Player all time.

Speaker 1 (01:26:05):
And m MLB, MLB Baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
Oh MLB oh, Barry Bonds, all.

Speaker 9 (01:26:13):
Right, Mark Magic, I think baseball and baseball, let's go
with let's go with the.

Speaker 1 (01:26:24):
Before.

Speaker 7 (01:26:25):
Steve Carlton from the phillis.

Speaker 8 (01:26:28):
Okay, and uh, Patty, I got mine for sure, and
and I'm very adamant on this one show.

Speaker 7 (01:26:36):
Hey o, Tony, I don't even care if it's a
recency buys. That dude is literally.

Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
I maybe you know what my best player is all time?
I write Willie Mays. I got Willie Mays. I think
it's a good pick.

Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
It's a good pick.

Speaker 4 (01:26:49):
I mean, I've just seen the black and white tape,
so I don't have a full perspective.

Speaker 1 (01:26:53):
One well, I never released. I saw him play at
the end of his career when he was a met,
but I sort of tapes as well.

Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
But look at the.

Speaker 1 (01:26:59):
Stats, you know. I just I think william As was
right there. Okay, letst but not least the nb A
current and or all time Bucky Brooks.

Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
NBA current or all times both. Let's see. Uh, let's
get out this era.

Speaker 4 (01:27:19):
Uh it's so weird, right because everyone would talk about
m J Kobe, Lebron and I'm gonna go and I'm
gonna have to say, if we talking about winning being
the thing, then let's go Bill Russell and.

Speaker 9 (01:27:31):
Yes, I like that, Yes, Mark magic, Mark, Okay. If
I can't pick Michael, I'm gonna say, mo cheeks.

Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
Cheeks you Philadelphia, I understand. But you know, there's just
so many.

Speaker 10 (01:27:48):
Basically, you know, like thank you for calling, thank you.
I don't Mark, I mean really I love him. Don't
laugh at them, Mark, you picked the wrong guy.

Speaker 1 (01:28:00):
All right.

Speaker 8 (01:28:01):
I have a current in a in a, I have
a current in a past one, so I can give two.
All right, So so current one right now I'm gonna say,
is well, yeah, I don't want to say it, but
like currently because of accolades Lebron.

Speaker 7 (01:28:19):
Just right now.

Speaker 8 (01:28:21):
And if we can't pick Jordan, if if even though
Jordan's pretty much kind of the goat, but if Jordan
outside of that, and I'm a Kobe guy, but I'm
not gonna pick Kobe because one person that just stands
out too much for me. You got to give it
to lou Elsinder And I'm talking Kareem abduled your bar baby,

(01:28:41):
So you rather.

Speaker 1 (01:28:42):
Pick Tim Duncan, right, you know what you already want
to say, don't even come back? Okay, failed school. I
got Steph Curry and Will Chamberlain, Will the still that
puts in one hundred points a game on. You gotta
be kidding me. He's all right. Now, before we get
involved with this situation, I want to let everybody know

(01:29:25):
get into this. Will the shoe fit I don't know
the ten best fits from the first day of free agency. Okay,
we talked a little bit about some of these free agents,
and I look at this guy, Tyler Linnenbaum, the center
of the Las Vegas radios, they're all in right now.
He's getting like nine million dollars more than Creed Humphrey's making.
Who is the center previously the highest paid center in
the National Football League form the Kansas City Chiefs Number one.

(01:29:47):
I asked Bucky Brooks, did the Raiders overpay for this guy?
I mean, that's that's big time money.

Speaker 4 (01:29:52):
Really, Well, you only overpaid form if the production isn't
up to snuff. But considering they're gonna bring in in
the Mendoza and they want someone up front who can
handle and lighten the load on him in terms of
the protection calls, identifying the mic, making adjustments in those things.

Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
Nah, they didn't overpay for Linda Baum. Linnabaum was terrific.

Speaker 4 (01:30:14):
The Baltimore Ravens messed up when they didn't put them
on their fifth year option. They let it go, and
so now they had to overpay to do it, and
so they drove the price up. So the Raiders wanted them,
they got them. You pay what you pay whatever you
need to get the people that you want.

Speaker 1 (01:30:29):
Well, I think that it's going to be quite obvious
that they're going to draft for an end of Mendoza.
So obviously getting a guy like Linda Boun's going to
make life of Elisia for Mendoza and he's going to
help their running game. So I think it was a
good deal money wise. I'm not paying for it, so
I don't care. But if you're a fan of the game,
the fan of the Raiders, you got to be pretty
happy about that. So that's number one. Okay, let's move
over now to the Kansas City Chiefs. I look at

(01:30:49):
their running back and they signed Kenneth Walker last year.
I think what the Kansas City Chiefs did, and I
think I'm correct in saying this, they resigned Trey Smith
and they Drefted Justice, so that kind of helped on
their offensive line. Now they got a running back. The
problem is he's not the best running back, but he's
a decent running back. And I think maybe I'm wrong

(01:31:10):
about this, but I love this guy. E b. When
he was at the Bengals, Eric the Enemy, he's back
with the Chiefs. I think he's going to help Walker
a lot. I think Walker is going to help the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (01:31:20):
Look, yeah, I think that's terrific pickup.

Speaker 4 (01:31:23):
And Eric Banemy is back and he's back in the
offensive coordinator role, even though he won't call it. Plays
we've seen with his offenses. Look like when he's been
in the building, there'll be a little more balanced.

Speaker 2 (01:31:33):
Kenniwauker Junior will help that.

Speaker 4 (01:31:35):
They'd be a little more explosive because the running game
will lead to more explosive plays in the passing game
down the field, off play action, and more importantly, they're
going to be able to finish games out because they
have a running back who can get it done. The
last few years, I'm being honest, man, they've been getting by.
They've been playing with running backs who didn't impact the
way the defensive coordinator approached the Kansas City Chiefs. Now

(01:31:56):
you won't be able to see all that soft, too
deep zone against the Chiefs because as Kenneth Walker has
proven that he can make them pay.

Speaker 1 (01:32:03):
All right, I'm gonna go with Kobe Bryant, the other
Kobe Bryant. They want to play for the University of Cincinnati.
Se be why Brian who's not with the Chicago Bears
his safety. And this guy transitioned from a quarterback to
a too deep safety when he's with Seattle. Now he's
with Chicago, And obviously I think one of the holes
of the Chicago Bears is defense. I think ad In

(01:32:23):
Kobe Bryant's gonna helped them a lot. You think who's
gonna help him a lot, Kobe Bryant. That's safety.

Speaker 4 (01:32:32):
Are you talking about the little when you say Kobe Bryant,
The first thing I thought about Kobe talking about you're
talking about talking about the safety.

Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
From Seattle coming over.

Speaker 4 (01:32:39):
Yeah, he is crying to help him a lot. He's terrific.
He has great instincts and awareness. There's a big gift
for them, big pick up.

Speaker 1 (01:32:47):
All right, let me U. Let me think of another
free agent right now that I could get involved with,
and I'm looking at the Malik Willis the quarterback with
the Dolphins. Dolphins have anue head coach. He was to
pack this defensive coordinator and he saw Willis, guess do
what he had to do last year. What does Willis

(01:33:07):
spring to the table as quarterback and what is he
going to do for the Dolphins.

Speaker 4 (01:33:12):
Well, the one thing that is good about the situation
is John Eric Sullivan and Jeff Affley know Malik will
Is very very well from spending two years with him.
Halfley is really important because as a defense coordinator, he
had to face him in many camps and training camps
of those things while also watching them get ready for
the games that he participated in. This gives him a
great sense of the boundaries to strengths and weaknesses that

(01:33:33):
Malik Willis has.

Speaker 2 (01:33:34):
He's an athletic playmaker. He's a guy who can do
damage inside and outside of the pocket, but at his
best when he's on the perimeter.

Speaker 4 (01:33:43):
I think this is going to be a chance for
the Dolphins to do a reset, to kind of tweak
and change their offense a little bit, to run it
with a chan in the backfield, but more importantly, to
use some of those dual threat things, whether it's traditional
RPOs or old school bootlegs and movement pass is to
really put the defense in the buying and to create
big play opportunities for him.

Speaker 1 (01:34:04):
All right, here's a big surprise. I was surprised with
this one. I don't know about you, but Mike Evans
wide receiver goes to the San Francisco forty nine Ers,
and you know, he's thirty three years of age. I
think maybe he's better days are behind them. But it's
a pretty big surprise, and he has some hamstring problems
good as well. But I think he's really going to
help the forty nine ers offense and maybe he won't
have to be the guy for the forty nine ers

(01:34:27):
as he was in the past in years past, because
he's got some helping out with George Kittle on the
offensive line there as far as receiving an offense. But
you know, honestly, at thirty three, it's tough. I mean,
I think with the bad hamstrings as well as but
I was very surprised that Mike Evans goes to the
forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
Yeah, very surprised too. Here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (01:34:50):
If it works with their age, you're talking about a
dynamic trio and Mike Evans, George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey,
if healthy, man pose a lot of problems because if
you choose to use extra defenders to neutralize any one
of those, the other two can hurt you. This will
make the game a lot easier for Brian Purdy. The

(01:35:10):
thing that you have to do is can you get
Mike Evans to the field? Had a lot of injuries
of LA. George Kittle has been injured. CMC has been
good for some years, he's off injured. So this is
the move that look has the potential to pay off
in a major way. But it also could be a
bad move just because they're older players and you can't
really hit your wagon to older players.

Speaker 1 (01:35:31):
I would say this, we watched the playoffs and you
saw the Seahawks playing the Rams and what we learned,
at least if you're a student of the game like
you are Buckie Brooks, I think the Seahawks exposed the
weakness of the defensive cornerback position, at least with the Rams.
So they pick up Jalen Watson. I think it's a
big pick for the LA Rams and free agency, Jalen

(01:35:54):
Watson is going to help him. That was exposed big
time by Seattle. But Seattle did that to a lot
of teams, but they did it so to the Rams
in the playoffs, and I think that Jalen Watson coming
over is gonna help them a lot in the defensive backfield.

Speaker 4 (01:36:07):
Oh yeah, you think about Jayleen Watson's and Trey mcdeffie.
They've automatically improved, they argue, with the best team in
football like them in the Seahawks, you can say one
and two wherever you want to break it down, but
their secondary let them down in the biggest game. They're
shoring that up. Now you have a dynamic secondary with
experience and playmakers in those things. That makes a difference.

Speaker 1 (01:36:29):
All right, Tennessee Titans that they need help all over
the place, But they got John Franklin Meyer's defensive tackle.
I guess. Robert Saylor, the new Titans head coach, you know,
he's a defensive somewhat specialist, I guess, so that's why
he went for the defensive tackle. I just I'm more
concerned with the quarterback position in Tennessee. You know, is

(01:36:50):
it gonna happen, Is he gonna develop? What are they
gonna do? I mean, the defense is great, but you
got to get points on the board. That's the key,
and can they do that well the Titans. And I
would have liked to have seen, if I'm a Titans fan,
for them to hire an offensive minded coach more so
than a defensive minded coach. But the fact of the
matter is they fired the last coach was an offensive

(01:37:13):
coordinator in Cincinnati, And I guess sometimes what teams do,
they just go the other direction if they fire one coach.

Speaker 4 (01:37:22):
Yeah, that's always dificult to talk about the transition and
firing coaches in Cincinnati and those things like, I don't know,
I don't know how much it really matters, you know,
like in terms of the upgrades.

Speaker 2 (01:37:34):
I don't know, man, that it's your team, Andy, I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:37:40):
Know about But I'm just saying, like, you know, when
you fire an offensive minded coach, which Tennessee had last year,
and they find him in the midseason, not a new
coach is a defensive guy, you know, because they're always
going in the opposite direction.

Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
Yeah, they go in the opposite direction. Normally it's either
personalities or sadder expertise.

Speaker 4 (01:37:58):
For Tennessee. Robert solid is good, he's been head coach before.
There was some appeal and that you look at the
personnel that they had in place. Is about finding a
way to bring back the brand. Tennessee has always been
a rougher and regged team, a team to pride themselves
and the physicality that they played with. Well, Robert Salad
will bring that now. He brings his buddy Brian day

(01:38:18):
Ball over to fix the offense. Dave Ball has always
had a man crush on the young quarterback cam Ward.
We will see how they're able to kind of juice
up that offense around them. But the scary part is
Robert Salad has seen what Demico Ryan's version of their
same scheme has done.

Speaker 2 (01:38:34):
Tennessee becomes a very competitive team right away.

Speaker 8 (01:38:39):
You think so.

Speaker 2 (01:38:41):
Competitive?

Speaker 1 (01:38:43):
You know sometimes you know, hype goes with the position
and cam Ward. To me, even going into the draft,
we never heard much about the guy. I mean, guys
a quartable. We've heard more about Fernandum and those are
now than we heard about Kim Ward the entire last season.
And I get it because he played on an undefeated
team Indianna. But still, in all, more often than not,

(01:39:05):
you hear a quarterback and you're here going into the draft,
and even during the season, we didn't hear much about
Kim Ward. Is it because the team he's playing on?
Is it his personality? Why is that what's happening with
cam Ward? And can he make it? Will he be
their franchise quarterback?

Speaker 2 (01:39:21):
Yeah, he can make it.

Speaker 4 (01:39:22):
And he can make it because Brian Daboll's really good
with quarterbacks, and we saw what he did early with
Daniel Jones. We saw what he did with Jackson Dirt
when he had an opportunity the first half of the season.
He'll find a way to get cam Ward up and going.

Speaker 2 (01:39:34):
Now.

Speaker 4 (01:39:35):
The key will be the weapons around kim Ward. They
brought back Calvin Ridley, they have Wandale Robinson coming over.

Speaker 2 (01:39:42):
I don't know if that's enough to me.

Speaker 4 (01:39:44):
That's not enough to necessarily make their offense dangerous, but
there's familiarity, and so I understand why they made those moves.
But I expect Brian Daboll to get this offense up
and humming. And they don't need to be a top
ten offense. But if they can get to the middle
of the pack where they can run it and have
Mike sposed plays in the passing game, that defense.

Speaker 2 (01:40:02):
Is going to be. The defense is gonna be much
better than people expect.

Speaker 1 (01:40:06):
Really, Okay, what will be the surprise team as of today?
Looking at the free agent movements and even before the draft,
your surprise team coming into the NFL next year, Like, Wow,
where did they come from?

Speaker 2 (01:40:18):
M surprise team? Where they come from?

Speaker 4 (01:40:21):
I would say the raid is being more competitive than
mini expect. They underachieved this year, but they certainly weren't
as bad as their record indicated this year, coming up
with Clint Kubiak, better offensive system with Brock Bauers asking JITs,
even though you have a young quarterback, they should be
fined and defensively. Max Crosby returning to a team that

(01:40:42):
didn't anticipate having him.

Speaker 2 (01:40:44):
Oh, I think that's gonna be pretty good.

Speaker 1 (01:40:46):
Sounds great. Okay, he's Bucky Brooks, I mean de fermer
with life for the Fox Sports Radio studios. By the way,

Now he's the Mid American Conference coach of the Year,
and he's all yours next. All right, he's the most
popular man in America. We'll get to him in just

(01:41:29):
about a minute. Bucky Brooks, Andy frem right here, Fox
Sports Sunday and Fox Sports Radio. Now, let's welcome to
Fox Sports Sunday and Fox Sports Radio. As I mentioned,
he's the Mid American Conference Coach of the Year, coach
of the Miami RedHawks. Miami University coach Travis Steele, coach,
how are you.

Speaker 5 (01:41:48):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 1 (01:41:48):
Thanks for having me on, No, thanks for joining us.
I'm here with Bucky Brooks. He's a football mavin, but
I'm just a maven myself. I want to thank you
for your time, but I'm going to ask you, and
I won't ask you what you asked a thousand times,
which is what if you don't get in? That's what
everybody's asking. I'm going to ask you what seed will
you have? Because winning, in my mind trumps everything else.

Speaker 5 (01:42:11):
Yeah, I would think that we're definitely in. I'd be
surprised if we're not, you know, being thirty one to one.
But you know, as you know, like listen, it's out
of our control. You know, it's in the selection committee's hands,
and that's what happens. And you don't take care of
business something the MAC.

Speaker 2 (01:42:28):
Tournament, you know, coach talk about the challenge.

Speaker 4 (01:42:31):
You're doing that no matter how will you play in
the regular season, everything appears to hands on your postseason
play in the tournament.

Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
How hard is to get your guys to handle that
kind of pressure.

Speaker 5 (01:42:42):
Yeah, you know, I don't know if our guys necessarily
felt any pressure, you know, just because you know, I
felt like we probably felt more pressure down the stretch
with our regular season just trying to make it undefeated.
I think we're one of four teams since two thousand
to go on to see in the regular season in
which you give me figure about how many. I mean,

(01:43:04):
there's three hundred and sixty Division One teams and twenty
six years. I mean that that's incredible. But you know, listen,
and we didn't play great, you know it. That's the
thing about March. So it makes March great is it's
March Madness for a reason. You know, it's forty minutes.
The best team doesn't always win necessarily because it's a
one game, forty minute game. It's not a best of

(01:43:26):
seven like it is in the NBA, you know. So
that's what that's what makes it exciting, and hopefully we'll
learn from it and get better from it. Here into
the into doable a tournament.

Speaker 1 (01:43:36):
All right, Well, talk with the Travis Steel, Miam University
coach coach at the RedHawks. Quick question. If I can't
coach just talk about expanding the playoffs to eighty teams,
what's your thoughts on that?

Speaker 5 (01:43:48):
You know, I would probably keep it where it is.
And you know, like at number one, I think fans
have to understand the perspective. It's not they're not having
mid major teams, that's for sure. Me to add more
P five, P sixteens that quite honestly, that aren't great.
I think it's just going to water down the instead
of late tournament, I think sixty eight is twenty.

Speaker 4 (01:44:13):
You know, coach, I have to ask you, in the
NIL era and in the transfer reporter era, how hard
is it for you to retain your players on the
team that was undefeated, Like, how hard do you anticipate
it being to be able to bring back most of
your roster?

Speaker 5 (01:44:27):
Well, you know, I think a lot of schools have
probably been trying to poaching and poaching our guys the
whole season, you know, and you know, through agents and
back channels and all that, and we rely on our culture,
you know, our recruiting our recruiting pitch to our guys
after the season is just their experience, you know. So

(01:44:47):
we don't promise in the world and hey it's going
to be different or anything like that. Your experience is
your recruitment. And you know, for us, it's all about fit.
I think the fit piece really helps us day guys.
We have guys that really fit here. But retention is
at a premium. It's the key to honestly success in
college athletics. And you know, listen in il's part of

(01:45:11):
it and we know that. But we want our guys
to make the best decision for them, whatever that is
long term, not just a short term decision.

Speaker 1 (01:45:20):
You know, you're too nice to be a head coach.
You really are. I'm going to say that because you
say all the right things. You get on the radio
with us here on a Sunday morning when it's a big,
long day for you. So I would say, you're just
a good man, a great guy. I'm a great family man.
I love to see you getting the success you've had.
And you mentioned and Bucky mentioned the term poaching your players.

(01:45:40):
By the way, are they poaching you? Are other school's
poaching you?

Speaker 5 (01:45:45):
Well, you know, It's funny. I told our guys back
in January, I was getting hit by an agent. All
these agents and all these search firms and all this stuff.
Back in January, I knew our guys were And now,
but we're really happy here at my I mean, we
love what we've built, and we appreciate the opportunity that
we've been given. Here in Miami is a special place,

(01:46:07):
you know, it really is just from an academic standpoint
in campus and and uh and the people make the place.
So we're happy. I'll never say that. I'm not gonna
ever say, you know, speaking definitive terms, but at the
same time, you know, we're extremely happy here.

Speaker 2 (01:46:24):
That's great, Coach. What is the plan today? March Madness
Selection Sunday. What's the plan for you and the team today?

Speaker 5 (01:46:31):
Yeah, we have practice today. You know, we're going to practice.
We're gonna let those guys play a lot and a
couple for minute or you know, kind of town a
little bit of a mini scrimmage and a little bit
of skill and then watch film lift. And then we're
going to watch the show together, you know, and uh
in our film room and and see what our see
what the future has for US.

Speaker 1 (01:46:53):
You know, I want to get the public list. We're
about four hundred radio stations right now. I want people
to know that. And it's Miami University. You're not the
University of Miami in Florida. It's in beautiful Oxford, Ohio.
I just tell them about the beautiful campus in Oxford
because I've been there. It's gorgeous. And now there's talk
of a new arena as well. So how's the campus

(01:47:15):
reacted not only to your team, but the women's team
won the mac Tournament. So what's happening the buzz on campus?

Speaker 5 (01:47:23):
Yeah? Number one. When you envision college, this is exactly
what you think of. You know, it's a college town
about forty five minutes outside of Cincinnati, right in between
Cincinnati and Dayton. I mean it is. Everything is absolutely pristine.
It's a little less than twenty thousand students, so it's big,

(01:47:44):
but it's not too big. It has a really good
feel to it, like every piece of grass is manicured
every day. It feels like on our campus all the
buildings are brick. It kind of has that heavy league
feel to it here in the Midwest. But it's a
unique school. I mean, it really is the town's awesome.
You know, they've really really.

Speaker 3 (01:48:07):
I think the athletics across the board, whether it's softball, baseball,
women's basketball, men's basketball, I think has only added that
energy to this campus.

Speaker 5 (01:48:19):
We've went from two hundred people to our games when
I first got here to ten thousand, six hundred and
forty this season, and just to see the community get
behind us has just been incredible. And hopefully we're adding
to all the students experience as well.

Speaker 2 (01:48:38):
You know, Coach, I know the alums, the notable alums
from the basketball team have to be excited about it.
Wally Serbiak and company. Have you had any interaction with
those guys? Are they proud to see the kind of
work that you guys are doing?

Speaker 8 (01:48:50):
I have.

Speaker 5 (01:48:50):
You know, It's funny We've had Ron Harper at multiple games.
We've had Ironnewball, Wally serbiakor you mentioned a ton of
former players at games, Julian Levunga, Damon Friarson. It goes
on and on, and there's a really troud, proud tradition
here and we're the all time winning his program in
our league. Yet we just had not done it for

(01:49:12):
about twenty years when I first got here. You know,
there's been a gap, and I think, you know, obviously
there's a ton of excitement, you know, from their standpoint,
because we worked for those that came before us, right,
they wore the jersey, They put in all the all
the blood, sweat and tears into it, and they live
and die by it, you know. So it's been really

(01:49:34):
fun to see them all get back involved and take
a lot of pride in this place because it is
a special place.

Speaker 1 (01:49:42):
Coach, I'm a little lone school. I want to know
why Wayne Embry hasn't come back.

Speaker 5 (01:49:46):
You know what Wayne Embry did come back. I should
have mentioned him. He came back. What game was he
here for our Northern Illinois games? GAT when Ron Harper
got an honorary degree. You know, Wayne made it an appear,
which was awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:50:02):
It was a big way in every Dare you go, Buck?
What do you got? Buck?

Speaker 5 (01:50:06):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:50:07):
Coach? Ess looking forward?

Speaker 4 (01:50:09):
How can you use the disappointment of the MAC Tournament
to prepare you on a deep postseason run in the
NCAA Tournament.

Speaker 5 (01:50:15):
Well, I think it just shows our guys they listen,
It can happen to anybody, right, just because we were
undefeated going into that game as the man you'real win
the game, and you have to prepare the right way,
which I thought our preparation was good going into that game.
But we have to embrace the physicality of the game.
A lot of times the officials will really let things

(01:50:35):
play and mark kind of which I like. I don't
like the whistle being blown every time down the floor,
but we have to be more physical. We got to
embrace that, you know, because we can really score, we
can really shoot, but we got to embrace the physicality
of the game and hopefully what that will show well
for us and allow us to you know, be able
to dance into the incident of play tournament.

Speaker 1 (01:50:56):
Here in this upcoming week post, Travis Steele, let me
let me leave you with this, I want to talk
a little bit about Bruce Pearl his TV comments on
the Red Hawks. They went viral saying not deserving of
a tournament birth whatever it may be. Then he comes
back and pays your fine that you got at the
Western Michigan game. Have you chatted with him since that deal?

Speaker 5 (01:51:15):
I have not chat with him since we talked about it.
Obviously over here. Bruce is a good guy, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:51:21):
Number one.

Speaker 5 (01:51:22):
He's a Hall of Famer, great coach. Uh. You know,
but that's id I told our guys. I was like,
so I was like, listen, like, I don't call Bruce Pearl,
asked him for his advice on our team. No disrespect
to Bruce, So why the heck should we listened to
him now? But that does add a little extra motivation, right,
you know, you've got to continue to prove everybody wrong.

(01:51:44):
And I think our guys had this massive, massive chip
on the shoulder. I do appreciate Bruce coming around and
saying now he's saying, well, hey, you do deserve to be.

Speaker 8 (01:51:54):
You know.

Speaker 5 (01:51:55):
But again, but that's that's part of the media, in
the in the big heads. They all have an opinion
which is which is they should That's what they get
paid to do, you know. But again, we can only
hold our guys just focus on the things that we
can control, right, which is our preparation every day or effort,
and then the rest of it will take care of itself.

Speaker 1 (01:52:18):
Coach, I'm ready to send you another cigar. If your
first tournament went.

Speaker 5 (01:52:20):
Okay, I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (01:52:22):
Please do I certainly will thank you for your time. Buck,
you got any less minute comments last ones.

Speaker 2 (01:52:28):
No best love to you, coach Man.

Speaker 4 (01:52:30):
I know how difficult this journey can be, but I'm
looking forward to seeing how the RedHawks perform.

Speaker 5 (01:52:34):
Go absolutely, I appreciate you guys having me on.

Speaker 1 (01:52:38):
Thank you for joining us. Really, thank you so much.
Coach Travis Steele MI in American Conference coach of the
Miami RedHawks, and we'll be pulling for him and hopefully.
I mean, there are some reports out there saying they
may have to go to the playing game. That's ridiculous.
They're going. I don't know what seed they're going to get,
but they're going. They're playing in the major deal right now.
So pretty interesting. Bucky's good guy. He really is, Travis.
That's I'm playing for a guy like that.

Speaker 2 (01:53:01):
No, he definitely has them going.

Speaker 4 (01:53:03):
And be honest, I'm gonna say this is probably better
for them to lose in the MAC Tournament, get all
their pressure off of caring the unbeaten season.

Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
Now they can get back to business. Really good team.
Had a chance to watch them a couple of times.

Speaker 4 (01:53:16):
I've been on track, and the thing about it, as
they go forward, it's not about being the best team
in the country overall, it's about being the best team
each weekend. If they can just break it up into
two game tournaments, they'll find they went to the final four.

Speaker 1 (01:53:29):
You know, you mentioned this to me way back when
and when Bruce Pearl talked about they didn't deserve to
be in the tournament. You made this point to me
several times and it stuck with me. It's not the
best sixty four to sixty eight teams in the country.
It's a tournament, really, and we mentioned this earlier today.
Prarieview A and m are in the tournament. Right, They're

(01:53:49):
not one of the best sixty four to sixty eight teams,
But a tournament is different than just having the best
teams and Mimi, I do believe that, but one of
the best sixty four teams anyway. But still in all,
there was a foolish remark that Bruce Pearl said, and
he may have said that just to get the clicks
that we all you mentioned too, but he did. It
went viral with that, so we'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (01:54:10):
Well.

Speaker 4 (01:54:10):
He was also stumping for his son, that's the main thing.
Like his son is head coach at Auburn. He's trying
to make a case for them to get in. And
what we do know is what it said on the
media side matters. That noise carries. That noise has an impact,
and there can be some people that support Auburn's candency
because of what Bruce Pearl said. But the thing that

(01:54:31):
I love that coach talked about is guys on the
outside that noise their opinion doesn't matter. And he's right,
it doesn't matter what Bruce Pearl and some of the
other quote unquote experts may think about his team, and
that stuff is about what they do and how they
get ready.

Speaker 2 (01:54:43):
So I'm excited to see what it looks like.

Speaker 4 (01:54:45):
I'm excited to see how his team bounces back from
a disappointing loss, and I'm excited to see him and
his team play on the big stage.

Speaker 1 (01:54:52):
I can't believe he's making him practice today. When you asked,
what put.

Speaker 4 (01:54:55):
Your schedule, let's be well, because let's let's be honest
in lou you gotta anticipate, like, hey, if we do
have to play in the playing game the first version
of games, that's Tuesday, so Sunday Monday too, like, so
you got to be prepared for everything. And as a
good coach, he would be doing his team of disservice
if he didn't take that into account.

Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (01:55:17):
All right, He's Bucky Brooks and Andy Firman. We have
Fox Sports Sunday and Fox Puts Radio. It's time to
say it's your fault. The playing game is freaking next.
The blame game coming right up. It's about twelve minutes
before the top of the hour. It's Fox Sports Sunday
on Fox Puts Radio. He's Bucky Brooks, Amy Firman. At
the top of the hour, which will be nine am
on the East Coast, we have Mike Harmon, Mike Harmon

(01:55:40):
and Ryan Hollis. But right now it is time for
the playing game. You ruin me. It's all your fault. No,
it's your fault.

Speaker 3 (01:55:50):
It is all your fault.

Speaker 1 (01:55:55):
Maybe it's everyone's fault. See the liar. That's why there's
a blame game. Let's figure out who to blame. All right,
we're a lying for the Fox Best Radio Studios time day.

Speaker 7 (01:56:06):
Let's go away, all right, Let's blame some people, everybody.
Let's go yeah, all right, guys.

Speaker 8 (01:56:12):
Well, the Big Twelve has now gone back to a
traditional hardwood court for their tournament at t Mobile Center
after that innovative led glass court had some well, slipping
in grip issues.

Speaker 7 (01:56:24):
But who do you blame for this Andy?

Speaker 1 (01:56:27):
Well, first off, I probably would have said TV because
they looked pretty nice on TV. But you gotta believe
that if you're gonna put a court like that down,
you gotta test some You gotta test it with some
basketball people, and some of the players are really complaining
about lack of grip and slipping and sliding like that.
It was injury factor and I don't think it's fair
because they started the tournament with the LED and they

(01:56:48):
ended it with the hardwood, So you know, some teams
had an advantage, but these morons you gotta check. You know,
beauty is great, but beauty is great, but it's gotta
be useful as well.

Speaker 4 (01:57:00):
Yeah, I think you got to keep the main thing
the main thing, and in despite the glitz and the
glam that you want to put on as a marketing maven,
you got to make sure that the game still is
at the forefront of whatever decision that you're making. So
by putting the players at risk by playing on the
glass floor was not great. I am glad they made
a decision mid tournament. To switch it, but a little

(01:57:22):
over zealous when it came to putting the little pizzazz
on the tournament doing live.

Speaker 7 (01:57:28):
All right, well we're going next on this one, guys.

Speaker 8 (01:57:30):
So conference US saying the Sun Belt both included Louisiana
Tech on their twenty twenty six football schedule, giving the
Bulldogs a twenty game schedule.

Speaker 7 (01:57:41):
Whoa who do you blame, Bucky Brooks?

Speaker 4 (01:57:44):
I mean, that's well, I mean it's an excusable on
both parties, Like someone should be doing the checks and
balances to make sure that you have the Bulldogs in
the right conference and you have them on the right schedule.
So to me, that's a clerical error that is unacceptable
by both for conferences.

Speaker 1 (01:57:59):
I'll say this, I'm glad you mentioned the term checks
because the athletic directors from both these schools I'd be
afraid to see them balancing a checkbook. Really, it's amazing.
How stupid can you be? I mean, honestly, you're in college.
I mean the kids are laughing at you right now.
Think about that. You're supposed to be the leader, are
supposed to be looking up to you. You both scheduled

(01:58:20):
the same team twenty game schedule. Something's wrong over there.
If you're the president, take a good heart. Look at
your athletic directors. Really bump, thank you.

Speaker 8 (01:58:30):
We speaking of bums here we have a Clemson football coach,
Dabo Sweeney.

Speaker 1 (01:58:35):
He took he's come on.

Speaker 7 (01:58:39):
Well, whether he is or isn't, I will say this.

Speaker 8 (01:58:42):
He took the blame for a disappointing seven sixth season
a year ago, saying it's nobody's fault.

Speaker 7 (01:58:48):
But mind it sure was coach. But who would you
blame for permitting him to make such a fool of himself?
Who do you blame?

Speaker 2 (01:58:56):
Mandy?

Speaker 1 (01:58:57):
You know what, someone's got a coach, I mean even
an assistant. Say, Dabo, what are you doing? I mean, yeah,
you had a head coach. The team doesn't do that, well,
it is going to be your fault and everybody else
is going to point fingers at you. The media has
probably did it all season long. Why are you doing that?
Why are you aiding an extra log on the fire?
It's the most foolish thing I ever saw. You know,
he blamed it. Great, it's great that you took the

(01:59:19):
you've owned it. It's great. But the point is this,
you look stupid doing it.

Speaker 4 (01:59:24):
I mean, look, I appreciate him taking accountability for us
a disappointing year, but he's trying to swim in difficult
waters right now with the transfer portal nil, everyone coming
at him. Clipson, We'll be back. I'm confident and his
leadership and those things. So I think this is one
of the first steps in trying to get the team right.

Speaker 1 (01:59:42):
Wait before we continue with the next question, I gotta
run this black Bucky. Isn't Dabbo the guy that refuses
to go into the portal and doesn't go with the
NIL and it's still recruiting high school players. You gotta
get with the twenty first century there though.

Speaker 4 (01:59:56):
I mean, he has taken on more transfer portal guys,
but there are a lot of teams that are taken
on portal guys, like Florida State, and it's not working
for them. I think he has to do was right
for him and his team model. They've taken on more
this year than they had in the past. But he
believes in the developmental program with high school guys, and
I can't say he's wrong given his success.

Speaker 7 (02:00:17):
Well, you mentioned speaking of someone not working for someone anymore.

Speaker 8 (02:00:21):
We have you of Cincinnati, who fired their basketball coach,
Wes Miller after five seasons and not one NCAA bid here.
So John Cunningham is their athletic director. This is the
same guy who did not hire Kurt Signetti, saying he
had no prior Power Conference experience. Will the heat be
more on Cunningham or his new basketball higher Who would

(02:00:44):
you blame here, Bucky.

Speaker 5 (02:00:47):
Well?

Speaker 4 (02:00:47):
I mean, like I don't know, Like no one knew
to Kurtsy that we had the kind of success that
we have in Indiana. But yeah, there's a lot of
pressure on him to get this right. Look as the
major job Cincinnati people used to success with basketball, get
it right.

Speaker 1 (02:01:01):
I would say this, if I'm kurtz Signetti, I send
a check to John Cunningham for not hiring him. He
wouldn't have got that success He's done. He's the luckiest
man in the face of the earth going to Indiana.
He wouldn't have had that success in Cincinnati. And right now,
Cunningham better make the right decision because Sadafield is not
getting the job done in football. Wes Miller didn't get
it done there in basketball, but we got it done

(02:01:23):
here today, Buck, we sure did. We'll see you next Sunday.
