Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Well that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Frattle. We are
coming to you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios
here in Las Vegas. We'll take you up to three
in Pacific, six am Eastern. Man, it just never ends.
It just never ends, and it's always good for business.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
What a week.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
We're going to get to all of it tonight. I mean,
take baseball. We had a Major League Baseball team. Give
a guy a quarter of a billion dollars. He's never
hit three hundred, never hit over thirty home runs, never
won an MVP, and the world and people are their
heads are exploding because they're jealous and pissed off and

(00:53):
the world's coming to an end.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Set that aside for later.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
We're going to get to it and my take on
it might not be what you think it is, which
I think provides a good segue to begin the show.
We begin with a quote from the late late great
A Bart Giamatti verstwilal commissioner in Major League Baseball, who
once said the games are designed to break your heart.

(01:18):
And perhaps he wasn't even talking about baseball maybe he
was talking about the Buffalo Bills. I don't know who
the hell put the maloika on the Buffalo Bills. But
enough is enough already. You know, you saw what happened Saturday,
and I get it. There were five turnovers, but there
was a certain play at the end of the game

(01:38):
which merely speaks to the consistency and the drudgery of
what it must be to be a Buffalo Bill fan.
Can you not give? Can the football gods not one
time throw them a bone? I know they went to
the Super Bowl in nineteen ninety one, but you saw
what happened. Scott Norwood misses a forty seven yard field

(02:00):
gold temple just eight seconds in the game, and it
looked like it was good all the way until the
very end, and oh nothing. That just started an unprecedented
streak of four straight Super Bowl appearances. Skip to the
year two thousand. You forgot the Music City Miracle where
the Tennessee Titans scored a touchdown on a kickoff return

(02:21):
on a lateral pass which is still debated to this
day to win twenty two sixteen. That was against the
Buffalo Bills. But the good news is the Bills wouldn't
have any more debacles like that for about twenty years
because they had a seventeen year postseason drought. But even

(02:41):
when they get to the postseason, it's been marked by
devastating last minute defeats. Twenty twenty two and one of
the most painful losses forget Bills history, NFL history. The
Bills lead the Chiefs thirty six thirty three with thirteen
seconds the regulation, but sure enough Patrick Mahomes and the

(03:03):
Chiefs to get enough yardist to kick a field goal.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
The game goes to overtime. The Bills lose forty two
to thirty six.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Just two years ago in the AFC Divisional Round, facing
the Chiefs again, their kicker Tyler bast He misses a
potential game tying forty four yard field goal with about
a minute and a half remainting. The Bills lose twenty
seven to twenty four, which continues their trend of failing
to get over the home particularly against Kansas City. But

(03:31):
what does it matter in the last ten years the
Bills have experienced. Frankly, no one can deny this a
very high performing era under Josh Allen, but it's always
been punctuated by intense heartbreak, and most of their recent
losses come well, usually against the Chiefs, but they always
feature defensive collapses and critical moments and odd ball plays

(03:55):
that leave us scratching our head. Now I've come to
the conclusion I don't know what the hell of catches
and in the NFL anymore. If you watched what happens
Saturday afternoon, the Bills fell short and you can't tell
me this defeat does not come with controversy, And certainly
in the deciding minute the Broncos they eliminate the Bills,

(04:19):
they drill a game winning field goal in overtime, But
just a few minutes before that is where the story
really begins and ends. The officials award of the Broncos
at an interception on a fifty to fifty ball, Brandon
Cooks appeared to come down with a deep ball that
would have put the Bills in position to kick a
game winning field goal. However, give defense or the dB

(04:42):
for Denver credit j Kwambac Millen. He fell on Cooks
during the play and ripped the ball away after they
hit the ground. The rest then gave possession of the Broncos.
Now I'm confused. He caught, the ball landed, was contacted.
I thought that point the ball's dead. Pretend he'd been
a ball carrier. Let's say he'd broken a playoff tackle

(05:06):
and gone twenty yards, tumbled to the ground, a defender
falls on top of him, rolls around, and then rips
the ball away. Would he have lost possession? But all
of a sudden, we hear Carl Cheffer's telling us quote
the receiver has to complete the process of the catch,
and he lost possession of the ball when he hit
the ground complete the process. If I never hear that

(05:30):
term again, it'll be too soon. Lions fans know where
I'm going with That. All started with Calvin Johnson opening
day against the Bears in twenty ten.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
According to.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
More experts, quote, the defender gained possession of it at
that point. You mean, after Brandon Cooks caught the ball,
went to the ground, the Denver defensive back falls on
top of him, and as they're tumbling around, he rips
it away after they're already on the ground and he's
already caught the ball. They're now telling us the defender

(06:02):
is the one who completed the process of the catch.
But did the defender catch the ball in mintair. I
don't know what the hell a catch is anymore. And
that's not a throwaway line or a laugh line. I'm serious.
I don't know what the hell of catches anymore. Even
Sean McDermott basically said, it's hard for me to understand

(06:23):
why it was ruled that way. He didn't call time
out after the play. Do you think maybe the rest
take a little more time to look at it, review it.
And we've got all these officiating crews in New York
and then they confirm the call in the field, and
then McDermott, understandably was emotional, says he's standing up for Buffalo.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Damn it. Enough's enough, all right?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
So you know what happened next to Broncos won the
game in the following drive, and they actually got help
from another call. Tarren Johnson was flagged for defensive pass interference.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Will cover in Gortl and Sutton.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
So first, Josh, Josh McDaniels, there's another stooge, Josh Allan
throws an interception. It was yet it was his fifth
turned over the day. But after that, dever, I won't
say they were gifted, but they were the beneficiary of
fifty three yards and penalties before a chip shot field

(07:22):
goal sent the Bills packing. It's going to be a
long flight home. It's going to be a hell of
a long winner in summer and spring and everything. I know,
it's all we heard this year. Well there's no ma Homes.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
This is their year.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
There's no Burrow, there's no Lamar Jackson. As if that matters,
I guess it didn't matter. I don't know what catches
by the way that masks the fact that Bowdenicks had
a fabulous game. The Broncos basically put this game in
Bownicks's back, and he came up, he came up big,
but he broke his ankle with with what two plays

(08:01):
to go in the game, and so you won't see
the rest of the postseason. Hard for me to believe
that either New England or the Texans, and I think
it's going to be the Texans don't stroll into Denver
next week and find a way to win nothing against
Jared's Didham. But you throw them in that, you throw
them in that situation. Hell, they might might might be
better off with Jared from subway for current aloud, I'm

(08:24):
a little distracted because.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Our good buddy.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Jason Stewart talks about the product of the NFL in
how it's been diminished. Frankly, it has now We're not
gonna stop watching. We're all slappies. I'm the lead slappy,
but we're allowed. You know. I trust in my eyes
and tell me a lot, and I try to think
I'm rational in most situations. I don't get rid of catches.
It didn't matter at Seattle. They won by thirty five points.

(08:50):
And Seattle is the team to beat in this tournament.
I don't think anybody strolls in there and then to
cludes the rams and I just don't see it happening.
It's very hunting challenge for opponents because Seattle's defense is
for real. I could give you a bunch of metrics
and numbers to boy you to death, but let's put
it this way. This just in the Seattle defenses is

(09:12):
really good. And I give top credit to the forty
nine ers and Kyle Shanahan one of the best coaching jobs.
Heally lost his starting quarterback for eight weeks. He lost
Joey Bowls after the third week of the year or
Nick Bowls, one of the bullses. You know what I'm
talking about he loses Fred Warner. I mean it was
a complete match unit. They went into Philadelphia, they stole
one more and you know, we were hearing about Sam

(09:36):
Darnold's some kind of goofy injury. It didn't seem to
bother him. I know oblique injuries can be tricky, but
it was not his throwing arm, so there was a
potential crisis. I heard it. Seattle looks very buttoned up
to me, and there's not a hell of a lot
else to say. Later on the show, we're gonna break
down certainly, we're gonna analyze the Texans at at New England,

(09:59):
give you my thoughts and rams at the Bear, and
say well, we'll get into Indiana and Miami later in
the show as well. We're going to cover h We
got a ton of stuff tonight, including a very raucous,
very raucous midnight Hour, which I'm really looking forward to
the peeps and I'm really looking forward to our guests
coming up in a few minutes. Here is a legend

(10:20):
in every manner. You know him, Bill Crackman Crack and Burger.
Follow him on Twitter at crack Wins. You can hear
him every Sunday morning on this network on the on
the Countdown to Kickoff show, and we'll talk to him
about a lot of things. I mean, there's even an
unbelievable week. This this gambling scandal in college hoops. We'll

(10:45):
touch on it tonight, but we'll get his thoughts as
well as the NFL games today. At the NFL games
that will kick off again in about ten hours and
forty eight minutes. Don't check that eleven hours and forty
eight minutes. They start noon Pacific three Eastern. Hey, be

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Burning Final Show Fox Sports Radio, coming to you live
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio students. Just getting started.
Take up to three in Pacific, six am Eastern. We
got a lot of stuff to get to tonight. We
will be looking ahead to the remaining divisional games in
the NFL Texans Patriots, and then of course Rams Bears

(12:36):
Sunday night, and of course Indiana, Indiana and Miami on Monday.
We'll get to that a little bit later in the show.
A lot of times, though I do like to look
back and reflect, I try to fashion myself with a
somewhat keen observer, and what happens is when games are
completed and seasons are completed, oftentimes there are our narratives

(13:00):
and you can put them in one or two categories,
usually fact or fiction. So I want to touch on
a few of those, because I gave Carl Shanahan his
props last week, and I really believe he deserves it.
And so one of the narratives that will revolve around
the forty nine ers, certainly this year, and they did
last year where their injuries just too much to overcome?

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Can you use that as an excuse?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
The answer is fact he lost Brock Purty for eight games,
he lost Nick Bosa for sixteen games, Brandon I You
for nineteen games, Trent Williams for one key game, Fred
Warner for thirteen games, George Catle for seven And when
the Niners ran into that buzz saw in Seattle Saturday night,

(13:48):
and yes they got blown out, so what it had?
You know, you never gonna like the way you lose,
But you know what really happened. The day of reconciliation
happened the day reckoning the mountain of injuries, the cluster
injuries finally came home to roost They just didn't have
the horses to keep up. P Rose said it best.
Coaching footballs like driving a stage coach. Without the horses,

(14:11):
you ain't going forward. They didn't have George Kittle on offense.
They couldn't find any semblems of a semblance that's time,
I run a ton from that place, any kind of rhythm. Offensively,
and even Christian McCaffrey got dinged up. He had a
stare in the third quarter. Then defensively, when you don't
have Fred Warner and Nick Bosa, yes, that hurt them

(14:34):
all season.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Seattle had no problem running the ball none.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Seattle may have won this game regardless, but had San
Fran been at full strength or even somewhat close to
full strength, there's no way that score ends up the
way it is.

Speaker 6 (14:51):
Not.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Because the Seahawks were so dominant. There are people that
actually out there are saying he needs Sam Donald to win.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Is that fact or fiction? I think that's fiction.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
One of the major stories this past week heading into
Saturday Night's game was the status of Sam Donald. He
suffered an oblique injury during the week. He was questionable,
didn't practice for a couple of days. I'm told Drew
Locke took first first team snaps reps the last two practices. Now,
of course Donald suited up and started, but only three

(15:28):
seventeen times. It's all they needed to do. He was
efficient twelve to seventeen a buck twenty four a touchdown.
They didn't need him to do much. The defense did
most of the heavy lifting, and so did Kenneth Walker
one hundred and sixteen yards of nineteen carries. So the
Seahawks didn't need Donald Saturday. That doesn't mean they're not
going to need him the NFC Championship Game or even

(15:50):
the Super Bowl. They will and give the man his due.
People are always lining up the pee on his parade.
And as good as his defense played for Seattle, they're
still going to need Sam Darnold to make some key
plays in leverage moments over the next couple of weeks.
So they need to get him back to full health. Well,

(16:12):
this is a narrative that comes up almost every year,
certainly the last two or three years, and now it's
going to come up again, and I don't know that
I agree with it, but Buffalo losing and the way
they lost is Sean McDermott on the hot seat for
real fact or fiction. Unfortunately, this is fact. It's not

(16:33):
my fact. I know it's a little late in the
head coaching process. And by the way John Harbaugh spoken
for is if you would have gone to Buffalo, he
wouldn't have gone there. And I don't think they need him.
Kevin Stefanski. I'd rather have Stefanski than Harball. He's going
to the Falcons. That's weird. How many knee injuries is
Michael Pennix had four, five six. I'm not a doctor,

(16:56):
but I don't think that's very good. So the truth
of the matter is Sean McDermott's job is safe probably now.
But you watched they're gonna be all over him like
a like a hobole and a ham sandwich next season.
If Buffalo doesn't meet whatever expectations they have, they're just listen,
they're just for.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Some reason, he just can't win.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
For losing lost in a divisional round this year, after
going twelve and five, thirteen and four last year, lost
in the NFC Championship Game two years ago. You heard
what I talked about, lost in divisional round, lost in
division round, Looston division round, lot every year either the
once they lost in a wild Card weekend, but made
it to the FC Championship twice, Divisional round four times.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
That's not good enough.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
I guess I don't know who they you know, I
don't know who they are replaced it with, but mark
my words, they're gonna have him on the hot seat. Okay,
factor fiction, Is Josh Allen the reason they lost the game?
According to him? No, I think that's fiction. Don't get
me wrong. You can't have four turnovers and say you
have had a good day. To Fombles two interceptions, was

(18:02):
carrying the ball like a loaf of bread. By the way,
his back to back fumbles between halftime were brutal, really
broke Buffalo's back, and even on his two picks seemed
to force the ball a little bit, including the pick
in overtime which I still don't know what a catch
is that helped set up Denver's game winning drive. But

(18:22):
you really can't pin everything on Alans shoulders. They wouldn't
be there without him, They wouldn't be anything without him,
and they wouldn't have come back and at least led
the game with a minute or two to go. The
defense couldn't hold the lead without Josh Allen. There's a
bigger picture there. Okay, they've been talking about it all year.
Buffalo as an organization has not really surrounded Josh Allen

(18:45):
with talent to get over the edge. Okay, the two
picks he threw were to Brandon Cooks and Curtis Samuel.
They got Cooks as a free agent around Thanksgiving. Good player,
But why is he available? Samuel? Was just debated off
I R I think you know about an hour before
the game. That just shows how finn Buffalo was at

(19:08):
key positions. And when you don't have the kind of
firepower to win a shootout where it takes more than
thirty points to win the game, to help your quarterback.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
What do you expect? Listen, let's call it that. I'm
gonna call it.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
As I see it. The entire year, Buffalo was leading
way too much on Josh Allen to simply be superman
and willdom to victory, rather than surround him with some
tools and put him in the best position to succeed.
Those are facts as such. Do I think Josh Allen
pressed Saturday?

Speaker 7 (19:43):
I do.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
I think he knew he had to put it on
his shoulders.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
And he did, And that's just that's the way these
things happen. But is he totally responsible for that loss? No,
which leads to the next question. This one's a tougher
one to swallow because you know, they say you're not
supposed to have a rooting interest. But for teams like
Buffalo and cities like Cleveland, I'm sorry they win one.

(20:08):
One day, I'll stand up and cheer. Those are good
people in good cities. The reality, though, is, and again
back to factor fiction. After this season, did and this
is like a double entendre, did johnsh Allen just fumble
his best chance at finally winning a super Bowl?

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Factor fiction? This one might be fact.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
It might be fact. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills
may have squandered what could have been. It could be
Josh Allen's best opportunity to not just get to a
super Bowl, but win a super Bowl. And it's not
just because of the way they lost to Denver in

(20:56):
the divisional round. Buffalo entered this past season as the
biggas favored to win its division, but they didn't win
their division. They got to meet fraud by the Patriots
that forced Allen and the team they surrounded them with,
which was lacking to enter this postseason tournament as a
wildcard entry and go on the road.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
That's never easy.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
And this was also the postseason where you didn't have
to get past Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow or Lamar Jackson.
And those are quarterbacks who are roadblocks to the Bills
in years past, especially Mahomes. As a matter of fact,
I believe combined Allen was owned four against Mahomes and Burrough.
Maybe you owned five. It's hard to imagine if you'd

(21:44):
have told me the beginning of the season none of
those three guys would even meet in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
I just said, okay, get your affairs in order.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
We are nearing the apocalypse Baltimore, Kansas City, and Cincinnati again.
To take you back to August, it happened. So has
the window closed for Buffalo? Well, look, you know this
has been eight nine years now we're having this conversation.
I'm concerned it has. I hope I'm wrong, and I

(22:12):
know you they say you're not supposed to root, but
you know they say. One of the biggest homers of
all time was a legendary Johnny most of the Boston
Celtics that gravelly voiced play by play guy who was
quite the character. I met Johnny most once at the Forum,

(22:33):
went up to him. He was a great guy. I said, Johnny,
how do you feel when people call you a homer?
He said, you can't be doing this this long and
not develop affections.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
He's right, he's right.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
Who amongst you sinners would be pissed if Buffalo actually
won a Super Bowl? All right, you get my point.
I'm beating dead oars there. Actually, the buff bill should
have beat the dead horse.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
They had him down. They had the Broncos down with
a minute or two to go, Which leads me to
the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Now that bo Nix is hurt, are there super Bowl
hopes of winning a Super Bowl? Done?

Speaker 3 (23:14):
Fact or fiction?

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Fact? Now I know the greatest team of all time.
People will argue, maybe it is the Miami Dolphins. Most
of those old curmudgeons I like to stand around the sideline,
crotchety old men. There were great football players in their
day waiting for the team to lose. We're getting tired
of that act. You don't see the act much anymore
because no one goes much more past their seven or eight. No,

(23:38):
but they were seventeen oh and l But what if
I told you they lost their starting quarterback Bob Greasy
in Week five and the great Earl Moral came off
the trash heap, Well, that's not fairer or it was
a great Michigan State guy, great veteran with the Colts
and really guided the Don Shule and the Dolphins in
the Super Bowl. Well, with all due respect, and I

(23:59):
think a hell of a lot of bow Knicks, I
don't think he's Bob Greasy just yet. And with all
due respect, I know Jared Stidham is not Earal Moral.
And after you see Will Lutts secured Denver's place in
the FC Championship. Again, I told you I started the
show ade bartja Amadi, the games are designed to break
your heart. Shortly thereafter, Sean Payton announced bow Nick suffered

(24:22):
a broken bone in his ankle. He's getting surgery Tuesday.
His season is over, and they say he suffered the
injury on the second to the last play of overtime. Now,
the good news is Denver will host the game at
Mile High. The Broncos have one of the best defenses
in the NFL, and they got a fighting chance. I

(24:47):
don't think they're winning the Super Bowl. I don't think
they're winning the Super Bowl. With all due respect Jared Stidmans.
Didham can prove me wrong. He's been with the Broncos.
I believe this is his third season, so he's familiar
with Sean Payton's offense. But you thrust him into the
conference championship game in this situation too much to ask
he's played. I think he took one snap this season.

(25:10):
You know what he did. He took a knee in
a victory formation and a gamerer on Halloween. He has
him thrown a regular season pass since twenty twenty three.
And you're going to get either the Texans or the
Patriots next week. Both have tremendous defenses, and I think
you're getting the Seahawks if you make it that far,
and that defense is brutal. They got bad intentions. So look,

(25:35):
it's been a chaotic. It was a chaotic wild card weekend.
But guess what the division will round this Saturday. And
I hope it continues Sunday, because again, whether I can
tell you what a catch is for or not, or
whether the three worst words in resport you in sports,
it's under review. Three worst words in sports, we'll here

(25:55):
at a thousand times tomorrow you wait for it, so
you go make a sandwich. Watched the Godfather trilogy and
they're both stared in that tube. You idiots.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
You really.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
So Denver outlasted Buffalo. They sent Josh Allen packing. Bo
Nicks has a season ending ankle injury. Meanwhile, you saw
how the Buffalo Bills game ended. There's just never a
dull moment in the NFL, and I hope it continues Sunday.
And I still don't know what the hell a catch is.
By the way, this isn't the lead, so I didn't

(26:29):
bury it. But we got to talk about this is
Aaron Rodgers done? And if so, is this a very
unceremonious end to Aaron Rodgers? But professional athletes are human,
even the legends, and they rarely leave their sport on
their own terms or in a perfect matter. Tom Brady,

(26:51):
he retired after that wild card loss in the wildcard round,
that's department of We done, see department. So did Joe Montana.
Michael jordan Is last season with the Bulls, they were
thirty seven and forty five. Checked that Washington Wizards.

Speaker 8 (27:03):
I know.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
I got a few holes in my game. But I
know it was the Wizards.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
You get the point, by the way, Brett farhv his
final two passes for his last two teams were both interceptions,
and Aaron Rodgers last pass was a pick six. So
if Monday night was Rogers last game and it's a conversation,
well he may have gone out in an unceremonious fashion,

(27:27):
but he's a first ballot Hall of Famer, and I
know you don't want to let him off the hook
for all the off field nonsense around him the last
few seasons. And he goes out losing thirty to six
to the Texans, that doesn't feel good, but in Rodgers
really had no answer for a Houston defense that frankly
might be the NFL's best. And again, his final pass

(27:50):
of the night was intercepted and returned for a touchdown.
But if it is the in for the forty two
year old Rogers, and I just said he's a first
ballot Hall of Famer.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Here's his resume.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
He threw for just under sixty seven thousand yards, fifth
all time, four MVPs, not bad, well, one super Bowl
win is better than none, and his Super Bowl MVP
and he had ten Pro Bowls. You can argue that
Aaron Rodgers is one of the best five quarterbacks to

(28:21):
ever play football, and that should communicate to significance of if,
in fact, Money was his last game, the significance of
that farewell. When Rogers was at his peak, his style
and method of prosecuting the quarterback position was an art

(28:42):
for him. He manipulated defense defenses, his ball placement, his accuracy,
his ability to read a defense. He plays alive with
his feet. You forgot how good he was because he's
forty two years old. But from twenty eleven to twenty
twenty one, the years of his first and last year MVPs,
Rogers averaged the following per game in a seventeen game season,

(29:07):
sixty six percent completions, forty six hundred yards, thirty nine touchdowns,
and seven interceptions that were his Those were his season
averages for a decade. Regardless. You're never gonna like the
way you go out. Coming up, we have an absolutely raucous,
tremendous midnight hour coming up. You see for more. I

(29:29):
sit here in Las Vegas. It is literally going to
meet midnight in twenty three minutes. Means the clock will
strike midnight in twenty three minutes from where you sit.
It may also be midnight literally, but it's certainly midnight
figuratively for all of us, so you can start wormming

(29:50):
up your fingers eight seven seven nine nine six sixty
three six nine eight seven to seven ninety nine one fox.
We have three topics tonight. I guaranteed to break ben
rustbus dight, the bus bite, the bus chip cracker peel.
And I do believe we're gonna have some fun conversations
tonight because at least well I think all three, all

(30:18):
three subjects are going to have very polarizing takes for
both sides.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
And our callers have been fantastic. And what I meant
to say was the.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Segment is guaranteed not to break bend rustbus bite, the dust, chip,
cracker peal once again. Last time I run a tongue
from that place, So get your fingers ready. Eight seven
seven nine nine sixty six three sixty nine eight seven
seven ninety nine n Fox for twenty two minutes away
from the midnight hour. Figuredly it's midnight for all of us,
which means you get the last word. Literally, it turns

(30:48):
twelve midnight here in Vegas, and perhaps you two. We'll
set those topics next. I'm Bernie Frattlework come to your
line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Give
it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Free Show.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
All right, We're back on the Bernie Frattle Show Fox
Sports Radio. Come to you live from the Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Twelve hours and fifteen.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Minutes away from the remainder of divisional playoff weekend. And
if Sunday is anything like Saturday the Wildcard round, you
better buckle your seat belts. We we'll get to that
later as well as Indiana, Miami and all the other
good stuff going on. We are fourteen minutes away from

(31:48):
the clock striking midnight here in Las Vegas. What does
that mean? That means it's time for the ben that hour,
which means you see or I live it's twelve midnight
literally well and perhaps same where you live. But we
get calls from all around the world. We've gotten it
from Japan, Ireland, England, you name it Detroit. Yeah, I

(32:09):
can say that because I'm from there. So let's get
let's get to it. There were three topics I was
really looking forward to getting the folks' thoughts on this
week eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. We've talked
fairly well at length about the game played Saturday night
in Seattle between the Niners and the Seahawks. And what's

(32:30):
interesting is the Seahawks season ticket holders receives an interesting
notice from I believe Seattle Seahawks management this week. I'm
not sure how that notice was delivered, but I know
what happened. There were four warren and here's what it said.
It said regarding playoff ticket resale notice. Our records indicate
that your seeds for the upcoming Divisional round playoff game

(32:52):
are currently posted for resale as communicated prior to the
twenty twenty five season. Twenty twenty six renewal eligibility may
be impacted if it is determined that your season tickets,
including any playoff games, were used primarily for resale purposes.

(33:13):
So to avoid any impact to your renewal eligibility, we
ask to get you remove your resale listing and ensure
your tickets are used by another twelve you know, the
twelfth man. We encourage you to distribute your tickets directly
to friends, family members, neighbors, or community groups that will
help us pack lumen Field with blue and green. I

(33:36):
want the people's opinion. The call My callers are fantastic.
I know this is going to there's going to be
some arguments on both sides. How do you feel about
that you paid your pretty penny for the tickets. Do
you believe they are duly and rightfully your property and
you can do just exactly what you want with them?
Or do you believe the proprietor the Seattle Seahawks have

(34:01):
the right even though you paid for those tickets, they
have the right to give you a directive that if
you choose to sell them instead of attending the game,
we may not let you buy him next year. So
it's as simple as that. Whose side are you on
in this? Are you on the side of the Seahawks?
Are you on the side of the fans? And is
this ever happened to you? And the Seahawks are not?

(34:24):
The organization has done this, but this came to prominence
this week, all right, that's number one. The second item,
and we continue to watch people around, certainly major League
Baseball circles, a Major League Baseball fandom, including former GM

(34:45):
Jim Bowden. Their heads are exploding because the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (34:48):
Sign and Kyle Tucker this week.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
And again, as you heard me say earlier, they gave
a quarter of a billion dollars to a guy who's
never hit three hundred, never hit over thirty home runs,
never won an MVP, whether it be in the World.

Speaker 9 (35:03):
Series or the.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
You know, the playoffs, whatever. Never last season, by the way,
Kyle Tucker had two sixty four twenty two or months
seventy two RBIs in one hundred and thirty six games,
and they're paying sixty million dollars a year for him.
He's a solid player, don't get me wrong. But people's
heads exploded. Now I've defended the Dodgers. They're not doing

(35:28):
anything than any other club doesn't have the authority to do.
And I went over this last year before they repeated
in terms of the fact that you know, a lot
of guys really wanted to be there with the Dodgers.
They took less to come to the Dodgers because of
their their DNA as it were, and they've got a

(35:49):
legitimate chance to three peat. They really do. So here's
the question. It's a stacked team and they've spent a
lot of money. Although I pointed out last year that
of the five top payroll teams, student you make the playoffs.
So listen, all spending a lot guarantees you is a
successful regular season in terms of attendants. But here's the deal.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
This is the question.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
So is this Dodger kingdom good for baseball or bad
for baseball? See, it just comes down to a matter
of perspective because it puts the strain between the excitement
of a potential dynasty right next to the anxieties over
perceived equality within baseball. Here are some reasons I think
it's good for baseball. It increases interest. It does the

(36:35):
opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. You hate
the Dodgers or what they're doing, you're emotionally invested. That's good.
You're bringing superstars like Otani and Roki Sasaki right and
down the line. Now you get Kyle Tucker. That generates
significant fan interest whether you route for or against, generates

(36:55):
TV viewership, a better global reach of this sport.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
That's good for baseball. It actually creates revenue generation.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Now, the Dodgers, we all know they're high spending because
they have a tremendous business model. They've already paid for
le Tiny's contract because they do things smart. I'm not
even a Dodger fan pracy, I don't read against them,
I don't reform. I respect them. They paid one hundred
and seventy million dollars in twenty twenty five in luxury tax. Well,
those funds are redistributed to smaller market teams, and that

(37:26):
indirectly helps fund other clubs they compete against. Is that
a bad thing? Those those teams have to spend the
money well like the Dodgers do. It also forces competition.
You can't tell me teams like the Mets or the
Yankees they're not watching. So now they got to spend
more aggressively to keep pace, which leads to higher overall
talent pool more competitive. It becomes one arms race. But

(37:47):
everybody's got money. A few shows back, I gave how
much the team's cash every year and checks just due
to the TV contract and merchandising and you know baseball
property properties. Look, the Dodgers are simply demonstrating what aggressive
winning focused ownership looks like period. They're shrewd. Their salary

(38:09):
deferrals were shrewd. They got a top ranked farm system.
They do it all now. I know people think it
creates competitive imbalance and labor implications and can sometimes discourage
other owners. That's your opinion. Maybe you're right. We're gonna
argue it. So Topic number one. If you got one
of those Seahawks memos about hey, if you sell your tickets,
your season tickets, we may not let you buy them

(38:31):
next year, you say, hey, that's their right, why would
you do that? Or no, that's my right. I pay
for the damn tickets. Are gonna do what I want.
Topic number two.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
The Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
The Dodgers Kingdom heads absolutely exploded this week once again
because well, they got another sought after free agents. They're
paying them sixty million dollars a year.

Speaker 10 (38:57):
And.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
It's it's just I guess I'm kind of speechless because
they'd hate the Dodgers no matter what. But I happen
to think what the Dodgers are doing is good for baseball,
all right, Not everybody does, so we want to hear
your thoughts, and you know, don't hold back, all right,

(39:24):
Finally it's time to bring up Lebron again, and we're
gonna do this a lot with Mark madeIn. It's been
an interesting week for Lebron. But they introduced this special
edition twenty third season patch, and it's gotten a lot
of criticism.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
All right, it's in partnership.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
We're Tops with Tops trading cards.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
Some people have called it embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
He's a stack compiler, you know, self aggrandizing all those things.
Other people think, hey, it's historical significance, it's an unprecedented milestone.
But because it's Lebron and Lebron is always start for attention.
You know where I'm going with that. All right, So
those are our three topics eight seven, seven, nine, nine,
six six three sixty nine. Time for the Midnight Hour

(40:08):
and the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 11 (40:12):
I just wanted to get that off my chest. I mean,
you you said, what's a catch?

Speaker 2 (40:17):
We don't know anymore? We don't, we don't listen. Actually,
I mean the bottom line is, go ahead, Kate.

Speaker 12 (40:25):
They didn't they didn't review it.

Speaker 13 (40:28):
New York didn't review it.

Speaker 14 (40:29):
Yes, they just took it on the field. And then
after the play he takes a helmet off in the
end zone. That's a that's what unsupporting.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
It's it's it's supposed to be.

Speaker 3 (40:42):
It's supposed to be.

Speaker 14 (40:43):
That would have that would have moved back Denver.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
F That's another excellent point.

Speaker 14 (40:49):
That's actually it would have made it would have made
a longer field. Maybe they would have won anyway, but
still it's a penalty.

Speaker 11 (40:57):
Is a penalty.

Speaker 12 (40:58):
Is a penalty.

Speaker 14 (41:00):
Now your topics, your Topicsahawks tickets, Yeah.

Speaker 11 (41:06):
That's a joke.

Speaker 14 (41:07):
The fan pays for the tickets. They're overpriced in the
first place. All NFL teams over overpriced their tickets. If you,
as a fan, have waited for all those years to
get your season tickets, and you paid for your season tickets,

(41:31):
it's your right to sell those tickets.

Speaker 11 (41:34):
And for Seattle to come out and say, oh.

Speaker 14 (41:37):
We might not give you, we might not let you
buy season tickets again.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
Come on, really now, And by the way, they're not
the first organization to do it, and even do only
know it.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
So there's one vote.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
I leaned to the side of the fan, all right.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
Topic number two, the Dodgers Kingdom, Good or bad for baseball?

Speaker 14 (41:58):
A man, I think I think it's bad for baseball
because they're.

Speaker 11 (42:05):
Jason Tucker who.

Speaker 2 (42:09):
Well, this narratives been going on for a while because
people think they have an unfair advantage. I think they
just do it better than everybody else. Finally, the Lebron
Patch can't the twenty three patch self aggrandizing.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
Honorable what Lebron ron Well said?

Speaker 14 (42:27):
He typical Lebron. If they if they win, he's he's
the star. If they lose, he wants nothing to do
with it.

Speaker 3 (42:35):
Everybody else's there.

Speaker 14 (42:37):
They're ten points down with a minute left, and who
walks off the court, Yeah Lebron. And and when when
they lose, it's never his fault. But when they win,
he wants he wants everybody to pat him on the back.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
He's done.

Speaker 13 (42:54):
He's been done for a while.

Speaker 2 (42:55):
Thank you ten nicely done, buddy. I wish we had
more time. I want to give everybody fair shot here.
Don't be a stranger. He came out of the gates strong,
really appreciated. Dennison Vermont. I'm guessing you or this is also.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
Your first entree into Bernie Fratters show. Is that correct?

Speaker 15 (43:11):
I think I think I've been on once before, Bernie.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
Welcome back. Well, welcome back, dive right in.

Speaker 7 (43:18):
Thank you.

Speaker 12 (43:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (43:21):
Okay, First of all, Seattle, I agree you bought the
tickets and do.

Speaker 6 (43:29):
Whatever you want.

Speaker 11 (43:30):
I mean, I understand what they're trying to do.

Speaker 15 (43:34):
But in the end, if I buy a television from Walmart,
I want to sell to somebody else.

Speaker 16 (43:42):
Walmart's not going to chase.

Speaker 15 (43:43):
Me down trying to tell me where I can sell
that television. I mean, that's just the way.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
I'm all right, that's good.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
I got you gotta know that.

Speaker 2 (43:53):
You gotta know that the twelfth Man loves being compared
to wall That's that's I'll take it.

Speaker 13 (43:57):
Man.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
All right, number two, let's get let's keep it.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
A big, big fellow.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
Never were talking about Well, now we're talking about their Dodgers. Yeah,
the Dodgers.

Speaker 6 (44:06):
So I.

Speaker 15 (44:08):
Understand what you're saying, but I think it's just lazy.

Speaker 11 (44:12):
I mean, you look at the top.

Speaker 15 (44:14):
If we compare this to the NFL, and I know
it's hard to compare baseball in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (44:19):
Well, the.

Speaker 15 (44:21):
The top five richest owners are the Broncos, Panthers, Rams, Chiefs, Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
Wait, here's the thing. Hold up there, big fella, there's
a salary cap in the NFL, and there's not in
baseball and there never will be. You pay a luxury tax,
which I explained the Dodgers distributing one hundred and seventy
million those teams that don't want to spend their beneficiaries
of that money. So all I'm asking you is if
are you pissed off because of what the Dodgers are doing?

(44:51):
Or do you say, hell no, this is good for baseball.
That's all I want to know.

Speaker 15 (44:54):
Okay, I just think it's lazy. It's just spending money unlimited.
There's no scouting, there's.

Speaker 2 (45:00):
Oh that's that's just not true, my friend. They still
have an excellent farm system.

Speaker 15 (45:05):
You know, it's just my opinion.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
I'm an order opinion.

Speaker 15 (45:09):
I'm a suffering Orioles fan. So that's where I'm At'll.

Speaker 2 (45:13):
Bring back her a Weaver for once, fright. Finally, Lebron
the number twenty three patch.

Speaker 15 (45:20):
Lebron to me, he is Antonio Brown on steroids.

Speaker 7 (45:28):
I can do.

Speaker 2 (45:29):
Oh my god, excellent co tennis from the great state
of Vermont. We're a good friend and companion and cohort.
Arnie Spaniard resided for many years Jim in Massachusetts.

Speaker 13 (45:42):
You're back in the third hole tonight, buddy, Hey, Bernie,
what's going on the Seattle ticket thing? Hey, it's the fans.
They bought it.

Speaker 12 (45:50):
They can do what they want with the tickets.

Speaker 2 (45:52):
You know.

Speaker 13 (45:53):
I well, not me personally, but we had a sports group.
We had seasons tickets at Friendly Park for years, and
when they made the World Series in playoffs, we were
right behind the on deck circle on the on the
red Sox side, and when playoffs comes, we were out
in the bleachers. Those are the only tickets we were off.
And I don't know if they changed that or whatever,

(46:13):
but just because your season ticket holder doesn't mean you're
going to be sitting in the same seat during the playoffs,
you know.

Speaker 2 (46:19):
Okay, I'm not sure question that.

Speaker 3 (46:21):
Okay, yeah, you know.

Speaker 13 (46:25):
I don't even know why they got involved in that,
because I know they have a season's ticket list, you know, waiting.

Speaker 2 (46:31):
Every team does, so I think it's one of those
situations where you're trying to thread the needle and make
sure the people in your stadium are rooting for the
home team. I don't think they have that issue in Seattle.
Those are some of the best fans anywhere. If you've
ever been to that stadium. It's so loud your ear
drums will blow out. But yeah, there's no easy solution here.
It's all opinions.

Speaker 13 (46:51):
Yeah, the Dodgers, hey, let them do what they want.
I mean, baseball has gone so much down the tube.
They're just playing by the rules that are set up.
Everybody else can play by him. I know they're in
a bigger market. They get a bigger stadium, they can
sit more people, but like Fenway Park's only thirty five thousand,
other places are smaller, get bigger stadiums, get more money,

(47:12):
get more revenue, and you can compete with the big dogs.
You know, they're just playing by the rules.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
So unless they look as I mentioned, of the top
five spending teams has passed your two team to make
the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
Go back the last ten years anyway.

Speaker 13 (47:26):
Oh yeah, that's why. The same as football, they throw
money around like that. That doesn't going to bring you
a winner, no, And.

Speaker 2 (47:33):
It guarantees, it guarantees a lucrative regular season, all right.

Speaker 13 (47:37):
And on the patch thing, this really got to be
burnt up.

Speaker 12 (47:40):
I might not even sleep tonight.

Speaker 13 (47:42):
Forget the twenty three patch. If you want to put
a patch on everything, put a patch of air Jordan,
you know, going up to do a sky dunk like
on the sneakers, because in fifty one hundred years from now,
that's still gonna be there. Everybody's gonna know who Michael
Jordan is and no one, no one's going to even
Lebron who Well, what was your trash collector in the South, Bronx, what.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
Did you do? All right, well you'll have to do
twenty years from from now, Jim, and we're doing this show,
we'll do a we'll do a Lebron memorandum. Now that's
not the right word. I almost said memorial. But I
don't want the guy to diet for Grandada. I hope
he lives a long time anyway. Yeah, we're kind of
on the same page, boy, Lebron.

Speaker 13 (48:24):
Anything else, No, it's just that the fact that, oh, yeah,
one thing I noticed, how you when you were talking
about quarterbacks, you didn't bring up when Phil Simms went
down when the league was really mental, rutleds went and
they won a super Bowl with him in last minute.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
I mean, that's yeah, that's fair, that's a good point.
But but but I thought that the Miami comparison was
more appropriate with Earl moral because he Yeah, fair enough, Jim,
it might be splitting hairs on that one, because if
Sims was twenty two or twenty five and eighty seven
and ninety one, it was a differ from quarterback.

Speaker 13 (49:01):
Yeah. Well, the other the other thing answers that is
the Raiders. Are they going to take the Miami coach
and hire him the guy that develops quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (49:14):
I don't even think they know what they're gonna do.
Quite honestly.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
They're paying five coaches right now that aren't even working
fifty million dollars.

Speaker 13 (49:22):
So, uh, this is something they got to take that
kid from Indiana because I've seen him play, I've heard
him talk.

Speaker 2 (49:29):
Oh are you are you asking her? They're gonna draft
Mendoza at this point with everything I know, I'd be
shocked if they don't draft Fernando Mendoza and he's going
to be a player.

Speaker 3 (49:40):
Yeah, I love it, Jim, good stuff.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
And I feel bad for Mendoza because it'll be pure
hell here for him for a couple of years. Spotswed Norgan,
what are you drinking? My man?

Speaker 4 (49:52):
Hey, Bernie, Well, this time I'm I'm batting after a
cleanup gym from last week. So that's kind of nice.

Speaker 2 (50:00):
It's all good.

Speaker 4 (50:01):
The first thing I want to say is, if you're
gonna start smoking camel unfilters, as long as it doesn't
screw up your voice, I'm good. All right.

Speaker 2 (50:11):
Well I I someone complimented me on my Johnny Most impression,
the legendary Boston Celtics announcer, and he was a heavy smoker,
which gave him the gravelly voice.

Speaker 3 (50:25):
I reached for a laugh line.

Speaker 4 (50:28):
I do the camel crush once in a while, So,
oh wow, you better man?

Speaker 2 (50:33):
All right, what do we got Seahawks here? Who sat
on the team or the fans?

Speaker 4 (50:38):
Well, I'm I'm on the side of the fans, and
I want the fans to look at their contract. Do
you you look at what it is that that that
you bought, and you make sure that they can't do
that to you. And let's get the lawsuits flying, and
uh you.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
Know it's it's a it's a little more nuanced than that,
big fellow, But I accept your point. And that is
so far. We're so far, we're like four for four.
No one no one is thinking that that really this
is a good look, uh right? Topic Topic number two,
Topic number real quick.

Speaker 4 (51:12):
Number one I mean, can can Can Seahawks say that,
you know, to be a season ticket.

Speaker 2 (51:16):
Holder, you have to have a minimum decibel voice in
order to be a fall see that. That's the thing.

Speaker 3 (51:22):
I don't want to go down the slippery slope. I
just kind of want to do it.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
All right, all right, let's get let's get to the Dodgers.
Good for baseball or bad for baseball.

Speaker 4 (51:29):
It's good for baseball. It's you know, the Dodgers are
an international brand. They you know, it's it's it's it's like, hey,
I've got all the chips and I'm and I'm going
to bully you in poker. You better figure out what
you're gonna do to beat me. And you know, like
you said, with parody and the extra money, they're going
to be thrown thrown around. You know, they get to

(51:50):
do what they get to do, and you better figure
out how how how to beat them. And if you
don't have owners that have the deep pockets, then you're
you're done with You're you're gonna be Dodgers Baseball. And
and everybody wants likes the Dodgers to set me and
a whole bunch of other people.

Speaker 3 (52:07):
So all right, final thought, Lebron in the twenty three patch.

Speaker 4 (52:12):
All right, Actually I wish Bron would would wear the
Ayahuasca patch frankly, but right, he is so consumed with
himself and at this point Lebron is a parody of himself. Yes,
he has been one of the one of the best
players in basketball. He's earned a ton of accolades. He

(52:34):
is absolutely uh an icon, but he has continued to
step on his You can step on.

Speaker 3 (52:43):
His legacy because he tries too hard. That's the way
we see it.

Speaker 4 (52:46):
Thank you for correcting me, Bernie. I think that's very
very nice for you to do.

Speaker 12 (52:51):
And that is that.

Speaker 4 (52:53):
That is my opinion. He just God, he is so
consumed with his with his own ego, it is just obnoxious.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
All right, fock good stuff is always appreciate you man.
And just so everybody knows, the revenue sharing in baseball
is tremendous. All thirty teams get equal shares from a
very large pool of local and national TV revenues, which
really is around one hundred and ten million dollars per
team before you sell a single ticket. So look at

(53:26):
how many teams payrolls are under one hundred million dollars.
The Dodgers choose to invest in the return on investment.
And you heard what I said earlier. Okay, this increases
fan interest. There are several reasons I think this is good,
whether you like it or not. The Midnight Hours offered
running Cody, Linda, j E. Doog Leighton, You're up next.

(53:46):
I greatly appreciate your patience. We got to do this
the right way.

Speaker 3 (53:50):
Hang in there.

Speaker 2 (53:50):
I promised to get to you. I'm Bernie Frattle. We're

Speaker 2 (54:14):
All right, we're back on the Bernie Pato Show Fox
Sports Radio, and the midnight Hour continues. So let's get
back on to the phones. Joined by Cody in Miami. Cody,
thanks for hanging on. Welcome in, Bernie.

Speaker 6 (54:28):
I think you heard wrong, but only you can call
me Cody. It's Tony and oh.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
Tony, I'm sorry. Okay, no, it's all good.

Speaker 7 (54:38):
Uh no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 6 (54:39):
I at this point I had did you hear from you?

Speaker 2 (54:43):
Man? It's been a minute. It's all good, it's all good.

Speaker 6 (54:46):
I got uh, I got engaged, and I got into
Grandpa's what's called the medicine cabinet, So you can.

Speaker 2 (54:52):
Call me Jody Toby Toby Grandpa's cough syrup baby. Hey,
it's all good, man, I remember you man, former night
club owner? Right?

Speaker 4 (55:01):
Uh, something like that.

Speaker 6 (55:03):
Yeah, Like my my girl wants to she knows who
you are, and for our golden honeymoon possibly go to
Vegas and somehow get you for an hour and take
you out to dinner. But that's a different conversation, Uh,
for another day. I just wanted to weigh in real quick.

(55:24):
I don't really have anything of the baseball and the
you know who. I'm pretty sure that he's not talking
about the great Bernie Fratto or Golvie in Miami, So
I'd rather not talk about you know who and give
name to power.

Speaker 2 (55:41):
All right, we'll skip, we'll skip, we'll stip topic number three.
But what do you think about the Seahawks deal?

Speaker 6 (55:46):
That's the main thing. This is, this is what I
really wish. I don't know if it'll happen. I I
think if they're gonna it's the management. If they're gonna
play the green card, that's great, you're gonna be greedy,
go ahead and do that.

Speaker 12 (56:00):
But they need to have the right to also be greedy.

Speaker 6 (56:04):
Ideally, what I would love is if they're going to
play that game, then what they need to do is
go back, let's say thirty years nineteen ninety five Pontek Silverdome.
Some of those seats were twenty twenty five dollars. Google
twenty five dollars into what it is today, and that's
what those prices need to be for these seats. And
at that point, those seats only go to those fans

(56:27):
who paid for them directly or the season ticket, and
they do have they cannot resell them. They cannot, you know.
And I think that's the way that that's the perfect world.
Well often probably not, but I think I think they
if they want to do that, that's fine. They gotta
it's got to get into these seats.

Speaker 17 (56:45):
Shouldn't be more at all.

Speaker 6 (56:46):
Seatoff games shouldn't be more thane hundred and seventy five dollars,
maybe two hundred.

Speaker 2 (56:50):
The most fair enough? All right, we'll do The next
topic real quickly, the Dodgers is what they're doing good
for baseball or bad?

Speaker 3 (56:56):
I think it's good.

Speaker 6 (56:57):
Your thoughts I have done, I always tried.

Speaker 7 (57:00):
I was that.

Speaker 6 (57:01):
I have zero on that. It is basically, I just
want to weigh on because I've heard a lot about
this tickets ticket you know, reselling the last couple of weeks,
and I talked to with some of my friends and
it's said, the internet is just blown. It's sad you can't.

Speaker 17 (57:17):
I don't know who's able to go to these games.

Speaker 6 (57:19):
Who's got forty five hundred dollars to come down to Miami.
By the way, that the parking is seven hundred and
eighty dollars just to sit the reserve, which has already taken.

Speaker 2 (57:28):
So I'm going to get to the CFP ticket prices later.
But the bottom line is the Dodgers are spending a lot.
They're winning. Other teams spend too. The Dodgers are taking it.
People are taking shots at them. They have been for years.
I happen to think what they're doing is good for baseball.
You got the last word quickly.

Speaker 6 (57:46):
Yeah, sale v. If they're spending, they're spending. I don't
know enough baseball to pretend that I know the resolution,
But I know you do, and that's all that matters.

Speaker 2 (57:57):
Tony.

Speaker 3 (57:58):
Congratulations on your engagement. Appreciate it. Man, appreciate the call.
Linda and Kalamazoo, welcome in.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
Hi, good morning, How are you doing well? Thank you.

Speaker 10 (58:08):
As far as the topics, well, we'll go with Lebron first,
typical Lebron. He's he's just the only old the old song,
You're so vain.

Speaker 3 (58:19):
Sure, yeah, Carly Simon.

Speaker 10 (58:22):
Yeah, I think that kind of fits, uh the US there.

Speaker 15 (58:26):
If you tell uh the.

Speaker 10 (58:28):
Baseball situation, I'm concerned because and I don't know, maybe
you can fill me in. I don't understand. You know,
the Dodgers have got all these TV contracts. What happened
with the Tigers and Fandels that I don't understand that one,
we're losing our television rights and uh, who knows where

(58:49):
the people that work for the TV people Jason Bennetti
and oh that's fair.

Speaker 3 (58:54):
So that's fair that that has come up.

Speaker 2 (58:57):
We remember all major ly teams split the pie from
local TV contracts as well.

Speaker 3 (59:03):
And you got to remember this.

Speaker 2 (59:05):
The Yankees with their MSN network have had lucrative contracts forever.

Speaker 3 (59:10):
They haven't won anything in sixteen years.

Speaker 2 (59:11):
So, you know, you bring up a good point about
there seems to be somewhat of an imbalance, but every
team starts out with one hundred and ten million dollars
every year before they even sell single ticket.

Speaker 10 (59:21):
So so what's going to happen if they don't renew
the contract with FanDuel? What happens there?

Speaker 4 (59:30):
Where do we go?

Speaker 2 (59:30):
Well, it just happened a couple years ago with Balletes.
I mean someone else will come along. This to mean,
you know, you raise an interesting issue, not something we
have time to get into tonight. Something else will come along.
So all right, you've talked.

Speaker 10 (59:43):
About Google, don't I don't like the fact that we
haven't signed Scoople.

Speaker 2 (59:48):
I think, well, he wants he's with Scott Bors and
they want four hundred million dollars and Tigers just can't
pay that. They're just not going to give that to
a pitcher who turns thirty this year, even though he
might be worth it. I think they'd give him half
that or a four year d what he wants, But
he wants something much greater, and he's got the agent
that's going to drive it. What are your thoughts on
the Seahawks and the Hawks?

Speaker 10 (01:00:07):
I think I need to reconsider. Uh, you know, the
average Joe Bull can't afford to go to these games.
I mean it's just too much. And and one if
something comes up where you've got tickets for a game
and you can't make it and you want to sell
it to another fan, as long as you don't sell
it for more than what the ticket's worth and be

(01:00:28):
a scalper, I have no no problem with it.

Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
All right, thanks for calling, and I appreciate your time.
Appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
E Dog in New York City. Welcome into the Bernie
Frattle Show. Hey Bernie, how you doing doing well?

Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
So are you?

Speaker 7 (01:00:43):
I'm pretty good hanging in there. First of all, I
just want to say the Knicks they're they're a very
good team. But they got to stop the three pointers.
They'll have too many three pointers. And by the way,
I got a question to ask you.

Speaker 13 (01:00:58):
If I may I had this new girlfriend.

Speaker 7 (01:01:02):
But I'm asking you a question.

Speaker 15 (01:01:06):
Do you know where I got her from?

Speaker 7 (01:01:07):
Can you figure that out?

Speaker 11 (01:01:09):
No?

Speaker 7 (01:01:10):
No, no, you want me to tell you?

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
No, I'd rather stay on topic here, my man. Can
we stay on topic with the Seahawks and Lebron and
and the Dodgers.

Speaker 7 (01:01:22):
Yeah, I think this is going to win the Super Bowl.
I think they're a very good team. They're great on
defense there.

Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Well, how do you feel about how do you feel
about their ticket? You have a situation where they sent
memos to their ticket holders season ticket over sad. If
you say your tickets for the playoffs, we might you
might not get to buy him next year.

Speaker 3 (01:01:41):
You think that's good good or bad bad? I kind
of do too.

Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
But Lebron, we're in the number twenty three patch a
bad look or a good look?

Speaker 7 (01:01:53):
A good look.

Speaker 18 (01:01:54):
But the greatest number that win twenty three was tatis
in Jordan's Yeah, you're I was thinking of.

Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
That too, you Doug Jordan.

Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
You almost wonder if he's trying to divert attention away
from Jordan. Finally, the Dodgers, and I figure you got
a strong opinion on this, the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
Do you have a situation, Melissa?

Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
All right, buddy, I appreciate your call ee dog and
that I will take that as is not. I'd like
to see the Yankees win one too. I know Aaron
Boone man, he's I don't know, it's just only one
team can win it every year, and that's in every sport.
While isn't that profound? Thanks for the call, the dog appreciated.
Layton in Louisville. Welcome in, Good morning, Burning, good morning.

Speaker 7 (01:02:38):
Yes, let's go with the tickets.

Speaker 9 (01:02:40):
I have a little personal experience with that. The number
one greed organization in the country is Churchill Downs.

Speaker 11 (01:02:46):
About several years ago, they took out three pages.

Speaker 9 (01:02:50):
Of the Career Journal and list of the people that
they knew were selling the tickets, and they came with
that same threat. They're they're already robbing you at the
original is let the people sell the tickets fair.

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
That's the prevailing opinions tonight. Thoughts of Dodgers.

Speaker 9 (01:03:08):
The Dodgers, I love what I'm fine with it. I'm
an old school guy. I saw a lot of great
moments over the years. They already had Otani, they spent
more money and got Yamamoto.

Speaker 11 (01:03:20):
What that guy did in the World Series, that's.

Speaker 9 (01:03:22):
One of the great moments of all time. I saw
a lot of great ones, Colfax severs, great moments. But
for that guy to come out there with two days
rest and that performance in the clutch, it's one for
the ages, and so that's what I'm looking for. I
don't care what they spend fair enough.

Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
And then finally the patch for Lebron twenty three.

Speaker 9 (01:03:43):
Good or bad, it's good for me because I don't
have a lot here accepted. I've never cared for Lebron,
and the more he makes a fool out of himself, the.

Speaker 12 (01:03:52):
Better I like it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Right to the point. Thanks late, and appreciate you checking
in today. Jimmy and Boston, you're up next. Welcome the
Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 13 (01:04:01):
Hey, how you doing good?

Speaker 17 (01:04:03):
And uh listen?

Speaker 15 (01:04:04):
Uh.

Speaker 17 (01:04:05):
First of all, Lebron, I know you don't care for
the guy, and I don't either, but he's one of
the greats, and so if he wants to wear a patch.

Speaker 13 (01:04:11):
God bless him.

Speaker 6 (01:04:11):
But to me, to me doesn't matter the way.

Speaker 17 (01:04:15):
As so rather the Dodgers, I don't care. I don't
care whether team spends or not, but I don't like
the circumventing the cap with deferred money and uh signing
bonuses and all that stuff. So uh so the the
contract overpaid for a mediocre player, that's fine by me

(01:04:36):
if they want to do it, but uh, I say,
fix the rules so that you can't hide them hide
the money to circumvent the salary cap.

Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
All right, fair, I know a lot of people were
perturbed by the way they structured show Hayes contract, but
I'm wondering if they're perturbed because some of the other
teams didn't do it first. But again, you raise, you
raise a very valid issue.

Speaker 4 (01:05:00):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
And then so let's get to the Seahawks. Who's starting
the fans or the fans are the team?

Speaker 17 (01:05:06):
This is the main topic that I've got called for
a uh. They First of all, the Seahawks presume that's
every season ticket holder has to be a Seahawks fan.
And indeed, I'm not an employee of the Seahawks. So
as long as I don't break any of larger the scalpings,
I don't need to interview fans. Oh, by the way,
you want to buy the tickets? Oh the Hawks fan?

(01:05:28):
Are you a uh uh since anti Bengals fan or whatever?

Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
You know?

Speaker 17 (01:05:32):
So I'm not an employee of this, so I might
I don't have to do their work for them, you know?

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Might you know?

Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
So I say, I.

Speaker 17 (01:05:42):
Say, I spend so much money, I'm gonna take your
season ticket hold of Bernie and along with the scene
tickets come by laws, and every year they raise the
prices and they add by lawns and become more more onerous.
So I say, let the fans do what they want
as long as they're not breaking any rules.

Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
That sounds fair to me.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Jammy good stuff, appreciate Get the call, man Greg and
Texas welcome back. How are you?

Speaker 4 (01:06:04):
How are you doing?

Speaker 12 (01:06:05):
Man Good? I've got a brief, brief comment about the
Bills game. It's very brief. Reviews should be extended to
overtime and penalties, and that's got to say on that.
As far as the Dodgers, I got no problem. It's
just a timing thing and they've got a big enough

(01:06:27):
back core to support it. Like a lot of teams
that tried to do this in the pass didn't have
the big support system. So this is going to pass.
It's not something we're going to see all the time.
So I've got that to say about that.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
Lebron the number twenty three patch.

Speaker 12 (01:06:49):
Yeah, Lebron, twenty three patches, bullets get patches.

Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Okay, fair enough. I mean, look, I think it was
cast in an unfavorable light because it's Lebron and he
tries too hard for the spotlight.

Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
So we'll just move off that Seahawks. Who sade are
you on?

Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
For the tickets?

Speaker 12 (01:07:12):
I'm gonna take dark Side. I'm wanna take the Seahawks
just for okay reason. Okay, if you have a culture
developed with your twelfth Man, you don't want to give
it away to opposing fans. I mean, it's not a
monetary reasons, just a culture reason. But as far as
you know the fans want to sell, that's fine, but

(01:07:33):
they're not true fans, all.

Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
Right, Well that you know you may have you may
have a real point there. Thanks a lot, Greg. Look,
this has been done before, I think in hockey readings
it has been done, so you know it's one of
those situations where you know they are protecting your own
self interest, I guess. But there are two sides of
the coin. I think people have touched on some good things.

(01:07:58):
Squeeze one more in here, Jay and Seattle, welcome in.

Speaker 18 (01:08:03):
How you doing?

Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Uh good?

Speaker 11 (01:08:04):
I just wanted to say, uh, as far as the
tickets go, if you've seen that Toronto Blue Jay game
at the Mariners, they take over the ballpark kind of
like kind of like the Yankees at Anaheim.

Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
Yes, we have seen that, but we see here with
the Raiders, opposing teams take it over. All right, so
you're you're kind of on the side of the Seahawks.
I can.

Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
I can deal with that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:29):
How about the Dodgers in their kingdom?

Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
Are you? Is that good for baseball or bad for baseball?

Speaker 11 (01:08:36):
I don't really care. I just miss seeing the hot
dogs there in the left field school.

Speaker 3 (01:08:41):
There you go, all right, the Lebron twenty three patch.
How you feel about that?

Speaker 11 (01:08:46):
Jay, I can care less about him anyway. He's great,
He's great, But I mean, come on, anyway, I just
wanted to remind you. Have you seen Tommy WiSOA in
the eighty one World Cheries go out and pull Doug
Rowe Doug ral.

Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
I have heard that that SoundBite many many times. It's
frankly hilarious. That last guy was a left hander. But
all right, good stuff, Hey, good stuff, Ja.

Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
I appreciate you, man. We just got to get to
all the calls.

Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
The Midnight Hour will continue coming up, Jeff and Denver
Kirk and Ohio Martin Orange. You will be next. I'm
Bernie Fraddle. We're coming to line from Las Vegas. Fox
Sports Radio studios. Don't go away.

Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
On don't listen?

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Hey no, Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
All right back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, wrapping it
up on the minute hour. I want to get to
these final three callers.

Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
We go to Denver. Jeff in Denver, welcome in.

Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
How are you.

Speaker 18 (01:09:53):
You haveing a called j ad three weeks? But at
your topics tonight?

Speaker 6 (01:09:55):
Raised a beat with me the full uh, first of all,
the whole.

Speaker 3 (01:10:02):
Lebron thing.

Speaker 18 (01:10:04):
Okay, so a donkey is referred to as the jackass?

Speaker 11 (01:10:07):
Correct?

Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
It can't be?

Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
Yes?

Speaker 18 (01:10:10):
Okay, So if you remove the word jack and add
I nine, am I allowed to say that word on
the radio?

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
I'm not sure where you're going with this, big fellow.

Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
What's your thoughts.

Speaker 18 (01:10:19):
About Lebron egotistical and asinine?

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
Fair enough that yes, you're allowed to say it? And
I think you're accurate. Let's be honest. I think you're accurate.
Thoughts about the Seahawks and what they did with the
ticket resale.

Speaker 18 (01:10:35):
I'm a fan of home field advantage. If you are
going to buy season tickets, you would presumably be a
fan of the team, so you want home field advantage.
So I can understand the Seahawks organization doing that because
you want to retain your home field advantage. I do
not like when you go to the games and there's

(01:10:55):
more out of town fans there than you have there.
It's why would you buy season tickets if you're not
a fan?

Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
Would you agree?

Speaker 3 (01:11:03):
I think that's a hell of a valid point.

Speaker 2 (01:11:04):
I hear you. I hear you. I think yes, you
don't know people's individual situations. With buy and large, your
your position has a lot of merit.

Speaker 13 (01:11:15):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:11:16):
So we're double lebron. We're done with the Seahawks, the Dodgers.
The Dodgers king to good or bad for baseball.

Speaker 18 (01:11:21):
Horrendously bad. I am totally with parody. If your ownership
can't do things I don't like to the reason I
hate the Dodgers because they buy, they try to buy
a championship. It's not fair if your ownership can't doesn't
have that kind of money, it's not fair. They need
to have an actual salary cap, not this luxury tax

(01:11:44):
which is a donation to the other teams which they
may take the money and not put it in.

Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
Their players aka Colorado Rockies.

Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
They yeah, the Colorado Rockies. Yep, they're they're twenty first
and go ahead, Jeff, wrap it up. I'm sorry, I
just want to get to these past two callers.

Speaker 18 (01:12:00):
Go ahead, I understand. But I have been around where
I've talked to people confirmed that they had talked to
the Montforts. At a party, Charloine Montfort was a little drunk,
said that I'm glad we were not good this year
because we weren't going to spend any money anyway. Oh boy,
it's an investment for their children. Did they have no
intention of winning and that happens?

Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
No, Listen, I wish we had more time. Jeff, very
heady call. Thanks a lot, three solid opinions, and that's
something I might delve into later. I hope you're listening, Jeff,
because I might piggyback on something you said in terms
of because every home, every team gets fifty two percent
of their own home gate and then forty eight percent
of the shared gate home and national, you get one

(01:12:42):
hundred and ten million dollars before you open the door,
before you sell a single ticket.

Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
Kirk and Ohio, welcome in. How are you.

Speaker 19 (01:12:50):
Hello, Bernie?

Speaker 7 (01:12:52):
Hello, I like I like listening to you.

Speaker 19 (01:12:56):
Thank you I ever, I'm not real smart. I'm gonna
talk about Lebron.

Speaker 12 (01:13:04):
Okay, you know I live.

Speaker 19 (01:13:09):
Well, they got Lebron's high school games on TV way.

Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
Back with Yeah, Saint Vincent, Saint Mary.

Speaker 19 (01:13:19):
That's right. And his nickname was the achron kron Hammer
and he lost that, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
But the bottom line is, if you're telling me the
bloom is off the roads with this guy because he
tries too hard to be popular, is that fair?

Speaker 19 (01:13:39):
Yeah, he ruined that a long time ago, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Of course, of course, do you have any thoughts on
the Seahawks and the season ticket holders and what does
that deal?

Speaker 7 (01:13:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 19 (01:13:51):
I watched Sam Donald play Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.
Ohio State had him up. Sam Dougal had a lot
of height going into that game, and he showed he
wasn't that bully. That good now he's doing good now.

(01:14:16):
And the season Dick and orders, they pay what they
want to pay to go to the game. So I
don't know, I don't know what it's like to go
to a Seahawks game park and everything.

Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
But all right, Kirk, I'll tell you what. PAL appreciate
you calling in tonight, and uh, we do this every
Saturday night heating into Sunday morning. I know it's a
three fifty one year time in Ohio. Hope you'll join
us again, Martin at Orange, bring us home, buddy.

Speaker 20 (01:14:48):
Burning greetings and salutations.

Speaker 4 (01:14:51):
I'm gonna get right to it.

Speaker 20 (01:14:53):
And what the Dodgers are doing, it's good for baseball.
They're building the Zellain, They're building someone breathday, very polarizing.
Fifty is going to tune in because they love them,
fifty percent is going to tune in because they hate them.
So that's exactly what baseball needs. But the downfall is
baseball not only needs a spending floor, they need a

(01:15:17):
spending ceiling. And if you don't believe me, watching December
when this next contract comes up, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
What you know, Martin, I promise you, my friend, the
players Union will never accept the salary cap. Never.

Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
I'm repeating what I know. I know it for a fact.

Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
I covered the ninety four strike off the closer personal.
They will never accept a cap, my friend. I'm just
throwing that out there. Your thoughts on the Seahawks and
what they're doing.

Speaker 20 (01:15:47):
It reminded me of when I was a young kid
and I went to the Coliseum to see the Raiders
play for the first time, and I see some Denver
Bronco fans try to hang one of their Denver Bronco flags,
and I've seen it prompt removed by some Raider fans,
and then anyone who tried to put on a different
jersey was escorted out by Raider fans. They were policed

(01:16:08):
basically by their own fans. And we've moved away from
that time, Bernie, where now we're trying to say it's
a family environment, it's good come and see your team play.

Speaker 17 (01:16:19):
And that's what it is.

Speaker 21 (01:16:20):
But during the playoff time, we get back to.

Speaker 20 (01:16:22):
That primal instinct and that territorial and it becomes a
forgive me for better words. It becomes a big pissing contest,
and I get why they want to keep it home
crowd only turn off.

Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
Okay, excellent points, got good receipts, real quickly. Now on
thirty seconds, lebron.

Speaker 21 (01:16:39):
Y, I'm lebron I'm lebron real quick. I think he's
like the Chi sister that tried to compete against the
hot sisters, and he's always like, look at me, I'm
pretty too, I'm pretty too. We know you're good bro,
just sit back and relax and see your plague in history.

Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
Thank you, Bernie, I love you, Martin good Stuf, appreciate
the energy, Thanks for all the callers tonight. And I
want to make sure everybody knows this regarding baseball revenue
sharing is huge. All thirty teams get equal shares from
a very large pool of local TV revenues, concessions, all
that national TV revenues and the local pot is shared. So,

(01:17:23):
believe it or not, a team in Milwaukee is getting
forty eight percent of the gate the of what the
for instance, Dodgers get from their local TV contract. Teams
get fifty two percent of their own local revenue plus
his share from the big pot. So everybody starts out
with one hundred and ten million dollars in the bank
to spend before you even sell a single ticket. And

(01:17:45):
there are eleven teams who spent less than one hundred
and ten million dollars in payroll. That's heresy. And the
caller from Denver brought up a good point. I'm going
to piggyback later coming out. Mark Madeena a little Medina magic,
NBA keep it locks to Bernie Fraddle show. That's right.
You heard the man Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along.
My name is Bernie Fraddle. We're coming you live from

(01:18:07):
the Fox Sports Radio studios here in Las Vegas. Special
thanks to all the midnight hour callers out standing as usual.
But we switch gears. Another eventful week in the NBA.
There are plenty of talking points to delve into. You know,
it's that time. Mark Medina, Medina Magic, our Fox Sports

(01:18:30):
Radio NBA guru, also a writer for Essentially Sports, joins
us Mark, Good evening.

Speaker 16 (01:18:35):
How are you, Bernie. I'm probably doing as well as
the Lakers. They seem in a stalemate because they're losing.
I seem in a stalemate because x I got hacked
out of it and they're not doing their job with
lud me back in. So if you can help the
cause and let your listeners know to get on them,
that might help help me get back.

Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
On sounds good.

Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
I got hacked a while back.

Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
You just got to be persistent. They'll get you back.
But tonight's conversation is going to be heavy Lakers and
lebron centric. But since you mentioned they're lost Saturday night,
now they've lost two games in a row of teams
well under five hundred, giving up almost two hundred and
seventy points, lost by double digits both games. I said

(01:19:19):
they'd be forty two and forty. I always looked too
good early. You know what correction down the road will
cure their ales at this point.

Speaker 16 (01:19:27):
Yeah, I mean the litw hanging third is. Yeah, they
get better availability. With the Lakers loss against Portland, you know,
Luca Dodgrich didn't play, he had a left growing soreness.
Deandraden didn't play, he had left andees soreness. Jacks and
Hayes didn't play. Those all those players might play Sunday's
game against the Toronto Raptors. Obviously Austin reeves. But I

(01:19:48):
think even if their whole, it's been very clear that
they're not a great defensive to Marcus Smart is really
the only player that defense consistently, and you need more
than one consistent defender to sell in the NBA. So yeah,
they if they have a full roster, they can have
more offensive firepower. But as we've seen, even with today's
NBA that calls for faster pace, faster threes, you still

(01:20:12):
got to make stops, and the Laker sprink, we don't
have the personnel to do that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:16):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
When they were sixteen and four and beating the chest,
I said they'd go forty two and forty. So I'm
sure not backing off that now. But there are bigger
things to talk about tonight, and I want to start.
I want to get your perspective on the Rich Paul
Austin Reeves and then Lebron response comments this week, take
it wherever you want to take it.

Speaker 16 (01:20:35):
Yeah, you know, I respect Rich Paul as an agent,
respect to hustle, all that stuff. But I think the
fact that he was so opinion on this podcast about
Austin Reeves, I don't care what Lebron's explanation is the
ESPN that, oh, he doesn't speak for me. It puts
everyone in such a precarious position. And why are you,

(01:20:57):
you know, advocating for a team to do something that
doesn't involve you. It's one thing to get involved with
teams when it comes to your clients and philosophically, but
he's playing, you know, fantasy general manager on a podcast.
I think it's just very inappropriate for him to do.
And if I'm Austin Reeves, I'm as camp. I'm pissed
as hell, and you know, I want to be surprised

(01:21:19):
that they are because you know, I know in the
ESPN story was saying that Austin Reeves agent confronted Bridge
Paul about the Commons and so even though Austin Reeves
Lebron James, they get along just fine. You know, this
kind of stuff can disrupt locker room dynamics and it's
very unnecessary.

Speaker 12 (01:21:40):
You know.

Speaker 16 (01:21:40):
It's one thing if Forridge Paul or to say publicly
privately about wanting the Lakers to go all in to
maximize Lebron's championship window, that's fine. But when you start
gainingto specifics and picking names, that's where it feels like
it's a little personal.

Speaker 2 (01:21:58):
Yeah, and it continues from there. A fairly prominent NBA
person I'm not going to name, said, cool, the Lakers
have a Lebron problem. How do you interpret that?

Speaker 16 (01:22:12):
Yeah, I think in fairness to Lebron, it's not like
necessarily his fault. He is playing at a good level,
reasonably for him being forty one years old, twenty third season.
I'm not going to say he is the perfect player obviously. Yeah,
father time has shown its age. He's not a great
defensive player, But the Lakers aren't. Issues aren't because of

(01:22:34):
Lebron per se. It's more of the fact that they
don't have the right roster around him. And while you
can point to, well, Lebron makes fifty million dollars, he's
earned all that, you know, his negotiated and it's on
the Lakers to figure out how do you find the
right pesel puzzle pieces around him as.

Speaker 12 (01:22:53):
Well as Luca.

Speaker 16 (01:22:55):
And they thought that they did that with getting guys
like DeAndre Ayd and Marcus Smart and retail some of
their other role players with July at you more gave Vincent,
but we've seen it really isn't enough. So yeah, you know,
Lebron's not blameless here. But when I'm looking at per
sionas blame pis and stuff, it starts with roster construction.

Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
Talk with Mark Medina Medina Magic or Fox Sports Radio
and bea guru writer for essentially sports. I'm not going
to accuse you of deflecting, but I will say this.
I'd like you to hear this because I've been intrepid
journalist myself and now when I literally wrote this down,
when someone I trust said this quote about Lebron, he
doesn't move his feet on defense. Teams could literally attack

(01:23:38):
him all game if they wanted to, and they should,
but they have too much respect. They won't hunt him
like they did guys like Vince Carter late in his career.
If they hunted him, he'd be unplayable, posting negative twenty
nightly and looking miserable every game. I'm shocked teams don't
do it more often.

Speaker 3 (01:23:53):
Spot to lie.

Speaker 16 (01:23:54):
There, No, it's all right. I mean, look, I talked
with some different assistant coaches about Lebron's season when he
was about to turn forty one last month, you know,
like three weeks ago, and you know, there was a
lot of candid criticism similar to what you just outlined.
I mean, I asked one scout, you know what examples
jump out to you that show that Lebron is in

(01:24:16):
the same player as he was in his prime. He said,
watch any of his defensive clips. Like he doesn't try
as much, he rarely gets back on defense. He calls
out rotations, but doesn't rotate himself. Look like all those
things are true. All I'm saying is when you're looking
at that problem versus the what the Lakers didn't do

(01:24:36):
to put a good defensive roster around him. I think
that's the bigger thing. I mean, Lebron, he's coexisted fine
with Luca, he supplemented his role without complaint with Luca.
He's been a decent offensive player and at forty one
years old, Like that's all you can ask for. Now,
what does this mean moving forward? You know, I think
that Lebron and the Lakers should have a serious conversation

(01:24:59):
about making this note, waving the no trade clause and
actually ending things. But I just don't think that either
party is going to be willing to do that because
I think Lebron knows the criticism that would happen if
he did that, if you know, the you know, just
feeding into the ongoing criticism throughout his career that he's

(01:25:20):
just trying to join a championship bandwagon. I don't think
the Lakers are in the business of trading, you know,
star players, and they know the benefit of potentially having
a retirement tour. But again, like I'm not saying Lebron's blameless,
but he'd probably be the number two, the number three
of problems, where it's then number one Lakers front office

(01:25:43):
construction and number two just the injuries and the lack
of depth, and then Lebron would be through.

Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
Well you know, if people read Twitter, he's getting slaughtered
this week. Yeah, he keeps coming up. Mark is when
Lebron's in the line up, the Lakers are worse. They're
worse than plus money, and the numbers really don't lie anymore.
And now that body works keeps growing. And then Bill Plashki,
a long time respected writer for the La Times, and

(01:26:13):
I'm sure you know, yeah, it's basically and he's not shy.
He's not shy at all. Apparently there was a I
guess it was a non scientific poll or I don't
even know if it was a pole but he did
a column and would you rather have Lebron James or
Austin Reeves? And most fans said they would take Austin Reeves.

Speaker 16 (01:26:31):
Your thoughts on that, Yeah, it's not surprised. I mean, look,
the Lakers are the same way. Austin Reeves is their future.
One of the reasons why the Lakers might not make
a lot of moves this trade deadline behind beyond the
fact that they don't have a lot of assets to
work with, is they want to make sure that they
can retain Austin Reeves and also have enough money to

(01:26:52):
round out the rest of the rosters. So you know, yeah,
the Lakers are choosing Austin Reeves because he is the future.
He's a young talent, he has great chemistry around Luka Doncic,
and Lebron's forty one years old, and as we've discussed
a lot so far tonight, he has some deficiencies in
his games, specifically on defense, and so I think because

(01:27:15):
of that, it's the Lakers clear hope that you know,
they ride the season out, try to make the best
of it. You know, there's still a chance they're a
playoff team, but once Lebron retires, then makes that push
with the out of cap space to find the right
roster around Luca and Austin. So, you know, I know

(01:27:35):
the fans have made that known, but I think in fairness,
the Lakers have made that known even well before this
because of the way they really constructed everything before the
season started.

Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
Last thing, and I'll get off Lebron the twenty three patch.
I understand it. You know, it was an advertisement through
tops and he's wearing it. But in my callers segment,
the vast majority of people thought it was really kind
of self aggrandizing and cheap. Your thoughts on the twenty
three patch for.

Speaker 16 (01:28:02):
Lebron, Yeah, it's like any poor sequel. It's at the
cash crab. You know, I'm with you. I mean, I
get it. When it's someone's potential last year, there are
going to be those kind of mementos. But he hasn't
technically announced since his last season yet And it's one
of those things that you shouldn't be the ones doing it.

(01:28:24):
If the team wants to do that or the opponents
want to, you know, shower you with gifts and all that,
that's on them. But you know, this very much feels like,
you know, Lebron threw a party aside to give himself
a present.

Speaker 2 (01:28:37):
Well said, all right? Moving on the Western Conference to
me continues to be even more intriguing because the Lakers
are hanging on for dear life right now. There are
number six Phoenix on their trail, Golden State on their trail.

Speaker 3 (01:28:52):
Then he lose double digits in Portland.

Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
But the team that caught my eye this past week
as well it should be for everybody are the Clippers.

Speaker 3 (01:29:01):
Entering the Fray.

Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
They're twelve and two in their last fourteen and when
you watched them in short spurts, they look pretty good.
Can they sustain this?

Speaker 4 (01:29:10):
Yeah they can.

Speaker 16 (01:29:11):
It's always fluid with them because of because of the
familiar reasons for the last six years. Can Kawhi Leonard
stay healthy? But you know they should have been playing
this well from the beginning. When you look at their
recent stretch, Kawhi Leonard ranked second the league in scoring.
He actually ranked six in minutes played, and that's unheard

(01:29:34):
of because usually we're talking about Kawhi is not playing
a lot of minutes. He's on a minute restriction. He's
saying second at of back to backs. That's not the case.
So he's producing a high level to a second to
a second point. So is James Harden. And I think
so much that I thought it was going to be
a non starter with how terrible this start was, that

(01:29:56):
they would have any All Stars in the All Star Game,
that I he's going to be an into it Dome.
I think Kawhi is going to make it, and James
Harden's on the fence. But if he gets voted in
by the coaches as a reserve, I wouldn't be outraged
by it. I mean they've been playing that well, Well.

Speaker 2 (01:30:14):
It's fun to watch because if you look at their
roster on paper, it seems like they've got a lot
of talent, and you know when they got when they
seem to steal Kawhi in July at twenty nineteen.

Speaker 3 (01:30:26):
And surprised everybody.

Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
Aren't you surprised they haven't had somewhat more success than
in the last six seven years?

Speaker 16 (01:30:32):
Yeah, well, I mean I'm not surprised why because there's
been just so many injuries in opportune times. But I
did think that once Kawhi Leonard got to the Clippers,
at some point they would be contending for a championship,
if not winning it. But now I've gotten so used
to it that there's always something that's going to pop up.

(01:30:53):
And I've also gotten used to Yeah, the Clippers look
good on paper, but how does that play out in reality?
And clearly the Clippers offseason decision with not keeping Norman
pal and designing to really lean on having an old roster,
with getting Chris Paul getting Bradley Beal, that wasn't going
to work. But even with Bradley Beal now having the

(01:31:16):
season any injury and then partying with Chris Paul. They
still have a good roster on paper, obviously Kawhi Leonard,
James Harden as we discussed, but Brook Lopez is all
of a sudden hitting a lot of threes. Is stretch five.
Vita Zoo Bots is currently out, but he's always effective
when he's in the lineup. So yeah, they have the
right pieces. They just have to be consistent and this

(01:31:39):
past month they've been a lot better in that category.

Speaker 3 (01:31:43):
So last thing mark for me. I happen to come
across this this week.

Speaker 2 (01:31:50):
It looks like the NBA is pitching a year and
pee in professional basketball league. They want to launch in
October twenty twenty seven. Interesting cities London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Berlin,
et cetera, et cetera, and they could have up to
sixteen teams and it would basically be a professional NBA league,

(01:32:10):
but based in Europe. Is this going to come to fruition?

Speaker 16 (01:32:15):
It very well could be, but it's going to be
very complicated. Here's why there's already a professional league in
Europe called the euro League. And I don't think that
they're pretty thrilled that the NBA is trying to encroach
in its backyard. But the NBA, they've partnered with FIBA.
They are obviously influential, and they hope that you know,

(01:32:35):
the NBA, with their bandwidth and FIBA with their bandwidth,
that they can you know, kind of invade their territory
a little bit. And I think it's ironic because we've
seen the NBA become more and more global, where we
see an infusion of international talent. I think, you know, philosophically,
it's fine. All that matters is a product on the floor,

(01:32:55):
but there has been some angst over the years of
hey what about the American stars here? And now it's
a little bit of a pivot of hey, let's export
our product and show our global reach by expanding or
rather than inheriting all the global talent to the States.
So they're trying to have it both ways. The NBA

(01:33:15):
is very, very ambitious and they're always financially savvy. But
I do have my question marks because EuroLeague is a
pretty hefty player there.

Speaker 2 (01:33:24):
Well, I think your question marks are well founded. It
wouldn't surprise me if the EuroLeague potentially took legal action
with The larger issue for me is this feels. I mean,
the startup costs are going to be brutal, and I
understand the potential franchise fees are around five hundred million apiece.
Who's coming up with that money? And it just feels

(01:33:46):
like this is a potential another money losing venture. I
won't mention the WNBA, which is a massive money losing convention,
But the truth of the matter is does it make
sense economically?

Speaker 16 (01:33:58):
Well, it can make sense economically, but it depends on
how they negotiate and how they time it out. I mean,
the NBA it's not that pay you know, never make mistakes,
but they're not going to jump into this on this
unless they're, you know, pretty confident that they're going to
make money. And where does it come from. Well, they
made a you know what load of money with this
new TV rights deal. But I think the broader point

(01:34:20):
that they're making is very fair because they've also been
talking about expansion within their own NBA league in the
United States, and so I think a lot of this
is about just kind of saying the table and saying
the parameters and gain some feelers out, planning some seeds.
None of this stuff is imminent, and I think, you

(01:34:41):
know what's the first course of action is overseeing the
expansion with the NBA itself with having a franchise back
in Seattle. Not clear if it's going to be in
Las Vegas, but if it's not in Vegas, seeing other
market that could very well be good and it would
have to be two teams so that there's equity in
both conferences.

Speaker 2 (01:35:03):
Wrap it up with Mark Medina Medina Magic Mark Any
closing thoughts.

Speaker 16 (01:35:09):
Closing thoughts, There's always a lot of stuff to talk
about in the NBA. And selfishly to the listeners, pressure
X and Twitter about my hacked to account. Report the
hacked account because it's been about a week now and
it's very frustrated. So I'll be persistent, but I guess
strengthen numbers can only help here.

Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
All right, Mark, next week, we'll get right back at it.

Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
Real quickly.

Speaker 2 (01:37:03):
I want to piggyback on something we had a call
with great colleers tonight. Usual on the midnight hour something
Jeff and I think it was Jeff and Denver. I
want to give them credit. There's there's a reality to
many teams, many owners who own teams in Major League
Sports and all four sports, they want to win, but

(01:37:25):
it's really not their top priority. They want to create
a fan experience and make money. And the truth of
the matter is, you know, people can back on the
Dodger for the money they spend, and maybe they think
it's unfair, whatever, but spending that money doesn't guarantee you anything.
The guarantees regular season attendance typically, but every team, as

(01:37:45):
I mentioned, earns significant revenue from local and national TV deals.
And you know, you've got the local deals, which are
shared the revenue shared. Forty percent of the re local
revenue is pooled shared equally, and that gives every team
about an extra one hundred and ten million dollars on

(01:38:06):
top of their own local income. The local income you
get fifty two percent of you combine these streams, some
teams bring in as much as two hundred bion, some
teams bringing as much as four hundred million, some teams
bringing as much as six hundred million, like the Dodgers,
I get it, but explain to me. So the Dodgers
spent one hundred and thirty million next year alone. Shoheyo
Tani will make seventy million dollars next year. Kyle Tucker

(01:38:30):
will make sixty million dollars next year, and everybody lost
their minds again. They're giving this guy a four year
deal for a quarter of a billion dollars. He's never
hit three hundred, never hit over thirty home runs, never
won an MVP. Last year he hit two sixty four
with twenty two dingers and seventy two RBIs, missed twenty
six games. He's getting sixty million a year now. Day

(01:38:52):
Rod and Albert Pooholes both got quarter of a billion dollars,
but those were ten year contracts and both hit about
seven hundred home RW. So before you lose your minds
about the Dodgers, consider this. They're basically taking as much
as twenty five percent of the revenue they're getting, and
it's tied up into two players. Now, what do the

(01:39:14):
Colorado Rockies, the Cincinnati Reds, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Washington Nationals,
the Cleveland Guardians, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Chicago White Sox,
the Tampa Bay Rays, the Athletics, and the Miami Marlins
all have in common. Their combined payrolls are less. It's

(01:39:36):
ten teams I mentioned combined payrolls are less than Otani
and Kyle Tucker are being paid for this upcoming season.
They have the highest AAVs in Major League history. Basically,
when you combine them one hundred and thirty million, that's
more than ten clubs spend on their entire payroll. Now,
you can't tell me some of these other teams don't
have the money to spend on expensive free agents or

(01:39:59):
people who put fannies in seats or maybe help you win.
They choose to put the money elsewhere. And if you
got one hundred and ten coming in the gate before
you sell a ticket, what do you do with an
extra money? So listen, Unfortunately, they'll never will be a
salary cap. It just isn't going to happen. I know
how locked down the players are. They already cancel one

(01:40:21):
World Series. The owners won't even go down that road.
They may act like they do, they might beat their chest.
The truth of the matter is, I'm sticking to my opinion.
I think my opinion is well informed. When the Dodgers
do this. I get it's a matter of perspective. There's
a strain. There's a stress between trying to watch a

(01:40:41):
team create this excitement of a potential dynasty. They're going
to three peat, and it creates anxiety over what's considered
perceived the quality. But the money is there for everybody.
I think when the Dodgers do what they do, there's
increased interest. Like I've said a thousand times on the show,
the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifferent. If
you hate the Dodgers, you're emotionally invested, so you're gonna

(01:41:03):
watch revenue generation redistribution.

Speaker 3 (01:41:06):
Don't blame the Dodgers were having a strong business model.

Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
They deal. They doled out one hundred and seventy million
last year alone in luxury taxes, and those funds are
just redistributed to smaller market teams, which helps fund those clubs.
And if they're not spending it on the best roster
in the field, what are you gonna do? But I
can guarantee you teams like the Mets and the Yankees
and the Blue jaysus they're watching and they spend more aggressively.

(01:41:33):
Now I realize some people feel that it creates competitive imbalance,
and there are labor implications because there are payroll disparities,
and there's an ongoing debate because I know the owners
want a salary cap. They're never gonna get it, I'm
telling you, And some owners may get discouraged, but I
know that fans get discouraged too. But this is the
world we're in and the top five spending teams last
year two? Did you make the playoffs? And go back?

(01:41:55):
Wasn't that long ago? Weren't the New York Yankees the
Evil Empire last time they won? You know the answer
to that question?

Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
One of the features, it's caught strong here because there's
always good stuff to know about the NFL and NFL
inside information. It's time for the Fantasy Files.

Speaker 5 (01:42:18):
Fantasy Files with Brandon Deutsch, your go to fantasy football segment.

Speaker 21 (01:42:24):
I got one gone.

Speaker 13 (01:42:26):
What is up?

Speaker 8 (01:42:27):
Everybody is Fantasy Files. I'm Brandon Deutsch, and I know
that we won championships or the fantasy football season was
over a few weeks ago, but it never really ends.
Last week we talked about some interesting statistics that we
have in terms of wide receiver one finishes, and today
I wanted to go into a few dynasty things before

(01:42:49):
giving some stats about the NFL and the probable Super
Bowl champion and how it can be predicted. Because Fantasy
Files isn't just about fantasy football and the off season,
We're and be looking at some interesting stats as well,
in stuff that we can really look at, and that's
pivotal and important in what's happening right now because obviously

(01:43:11):
most people are focused on the NFL playoffs, not as
much on fantasy football. I will say this dynasty one
to one, I think has to be Pooka Nakua, and
I wanted to talk about that all week because people
say it's Jamar Chase, and I get it.

Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
He has Joe Burrow.

Speaker 8 (01:43:26):
He is a good episode. You know, he has a
good quarterback. So does Matthew Stafford to me, Pookakakua after
the wide receiver one finish, he's been better than Jamar
Chase on a per game basis throughout his entire career,
and Jamar Chase has been unreal. Those are obviously the
top two, and then you got Jon Robinson. And the
only reason why Jon Robinson is third was because he
doesn't have a quarterback. So as great as he is,

(01:43:49):
that's always I know the running back position is super important.
Some people might have him rated one to one in Dynasty,
but a guy that I feel like not enough people
are to give credit to going into next season in
Dynasty because I'd rank him in the top twenty right now.
I don't even know what team he's gonna be on,
but it's Jeremiah Love from Notre Dame. And we'll talk

(01:44:11):
more about draft season and all these players and how
they can impact fantasy football and teams in general. But
Jeremiah Love, I feel like, is the next big thing.
I know people say it every year about a running
back who was ashon gent last year, who actually had
a pretty good season with everything that went on the
Raiders having injured linemen, injured receivers, quarterback not playing well

(01:44:34):
right like g know led the league in picks, didn't
even play a few games, right, So again, he's still
put up. I think it was like thirteen or fourteen
hundred scrimmage yards. He's got to be up there. But
Jeremiah Loves a better prospect than him, and I just
hope he goes somewhere that has a capable offensive mind
where we can really see him flourish right away, because
that's a Jamiir Gibbs, Bjean Robinson type of talent. Jackson

(01:44:57):
Smith and Jack has got to be up there. But
I am still concerned about the way Seattle is so
run heavy with Kubiak this year. Now Kubiak's gonna get
hired elsewhere, he'll be gone, right But it's such a
contrast because JSN, you could argue, got more looks in
the sense of what the offense was with Ryan Grubb's

(01:45:19):
offensive coordinator now at Alabama with Caitlin Deborr Gino. Smith
threw like forty four hundred yards last year. You know,
Darnold threw a lot through like I think forty four
hundred as well. But they were still bottom five in
pass attempts, which is crazy how many yards they had
and how efficient they were in play action because of
their run game. I'm just not so convinced JASN can

(01:45:42):
continue elite production next season, especially when they get somebody
that's younger than Cooper Cup. When they get somebody that,
you know, maybe Brashi Chi they sign as well to
a longer term deal.

Speaker 9 (01:45:55):
I just don't know.

Speaker 8 (01:45:56):
I think they could draft a receiver and again ken
Walker out in the playoff game against the forty nine ers,
had three touchdowns. He's a guy that I think the
stock is on the rise, and I think he's going
to be a pending free agents soon. That's another guy
you got to look at in fantasy football.

Speaker 15 (01:46:10):
Now.

Speaker 8 (01:46:10):
I wanted to get to the statistics here because we'll
talk more about dynasty and everything like that. There's some
stat that I don't think a lot of the common
fans and fans in general know about. I didn't even
know about it until a few weeks ago, but every
Super Bowl champion in the last decade has been top
eight in average scoring margin going into the playoffs. Top eight.

(01:46:33):
So that's something that can dictate the Super Bowl champion.
I know it's eight teams, It's okay, Well, top six
is nine out of last ten. Denver in twenty was
twenty fifteen with Peyton Manning was eighth, so that was
the outlier. But look at this Seattle plus twelve point
six number one, and obviously they beat the Niners by

(01:46:54):
a lot, right, and this isn't including that, but they
were number one, New England number two, the Rams third,
So you got probably the three best teams left Houston's fifth.
Houston is another popular pick to defeat the New England
Patriots because of their defense. It's just impressive that Houston's
fifth and average scoring margin considering all the injuries they

(01:47:16):
have on offense. Fourth was Jacksonville, sixth, Buffalo seven, Denver.
Denver doesn't really have a chance without bot Nicks. So
going into the playoffs, you could have predicted that one
of Seattle, New England Rams, Jacksonville, Houston, Buffalo would win
the Super Bowl. It was pretty easy to predict that
just based on that. So that's an interesting statistic to
look at going into every season when you go into

(01:47:39):
the playoffs, because you can't really predict it right away.
But we'll be looking at more interesting stats like that
every single week while also going into some dynasty stuff.
Jeremiah Love was highlighted today, we'll highlight some other players
in the upcoming draft, and we'll keep talking about the
NFL playoffs. Thank you so much on Brandon Deutch. You
can find me at BSD takes on x Brandon Deutsch

(01:48:00):
on TikTok and Instagram. Back to the Bernie Fratto Show.

Speaker 2 (01:48:04):
Thank you all right, good stuff, and this is a
future that will continue. Believe me, Fantasy football is big,
big business, and there's an old saying hockey players are
built in the summer. Well, if you want to win
your fantasy league, pay attention to the rookies coming out,
the players you want to hold over and try to
project not who's good now, but who will be good

(01:48:26):
in the future. That's how you win your fantasy league.

(01:48:47):
you'll find tonight's full show right after we get off
the air. By the way, earlier in the show and
another great midnight hour thanks to the callers, we talked
about the Seattle Seahawk ticket situation where their ticket season
ticket holders received to notice that if they were selling
their tickets they might perhaps be in jeopardy for getting

(01:49:11):
their season tickets next year. It's storable file not the
first time things like this happened, which you want to
get people's thoughts. Well, Monday Night's game between Indiana. Oh yeah,
you talk about money. This is a college football playoff
title game and the ticket prices they will be the
most expensive ever. We'll break it down for you. Coming up,

(01:49:33):
I'm Bernie Frattle. We are coming to you live from
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Don't go away
listening to the Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 1 (01:49:41):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 3 (01:49:49):
All right back in the Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 2 (01:49:51):
Fox Sports Radio come to you live from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. I don't want to remind
the folks. For the best pregame show every weekend, be
sure to tune into Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff,
presented by bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday morning, will

(01:50:12):
caunt you down to all the biggest games for three
hours right up until kickoff, for all the best plays
and up to the second injury news tenn into Countdown
to Kickoff, presented by a bet MGM every Saturday and
Sunday morning, right here on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeart Radio app. Well, it's one thing to go to
a Seahawks playoff game, or perhaps if you're so inclined

(01:50:34):
he brazen enough to sell your tickets with good, good
back and forth on the minute hour to night on
that subject, a lot of folks felt, hey, it's your property.
You do what you want to do. One guy even said, hey,
if you buy a TV from Walmart, Walmart's not going
to tell you if you can sell it, resell it
all right, fair And then the Seahawks. Another caller brought
up a great point. We want a home field advantage.

(01:50:56):
There was a time if you brought a you know,
a poster to a Raider game from an opposing team,
they were going to tear it down.

Speaker 3 (01:51:04):
We're at different times, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:51:05):
The bottom line is this Monday night game between Indian
and Miami, the ticket prices are on pace to be
the most expensive ever, not close, and the resale ticket
market is reaching unprecedented levels. As of five days ago,

(01:51:26):
the cheapest tickets on I'm not going to name the reseller,
there's multiple out there for the game at hard Rock
Stadium Monday Night. The cheapest for selling on the resale
market three five and sixty five dollars. Now, I give
you that some perspective. Last year, the Ohio State Notre

(01:51:46):
Dame championship game that was about eighteen hundred and thirty
dollars that would get you in the door. So it's doubled.
And last year the Ohio State Notre Dame game was
the previous record for the most of college football national
championship game. Can you imagine? So you know, you take
your wife three thousand and six hundred a piece at

(01:52:09):
seventy two hundred, throwing a couple of hot dogs and
a couple of beers in a program and some cotton candy,
You're getting into some real money. But that's that's if
anybody thinks it's college football playoff isn't working, Okay, you
can think whatever you want. The majority of the game tickets,

(01:52:30):
by the way, are allocated to the two participating schools,
and they're originally sold through each institution, but when someone
gets their hands on them, they do what they want.
This is a money maker, you know, this is a
money maker for a lot of folks. Now, why is
this happening?

Speaker 3 (01:52:48):
Why would they?

Speaker 2 (01:52:48):
I mean Ohio stateon Notre Dame. You have two blue
bloods that if historically dominated the headlines in college football
for decades. Kids, I love it that it's Indiana and
Miami this year. You've got two storylines. Indiana has never

(01:53:09):
won anything in football what they did when the Big
ten back in nineteen sixty except you get my drift.

Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
And even though Miami.

Speaker 2 (01:53:16):
And Mario Cristobald doesn't want to talk about it, they're
very much trying to get the team back to that,
you know, the U status that it probably held for
years before that. You know, it's been a little bit
of the doldrums. So you've got a hell of a
You've got a hell of a storyline either way. And

(01:53:37):
so factors like those are contributing to the high demand
on the secondary market. Indiana, as I said, they're playing
in their first ever national championship game in program history.

Speaker 3 (01:53:47):
The obvious, But what if I told you, believe it
or not.

Speaker 2 (01:53:52):
Indiana University has the largest living alumni base of any
Division one is in the country. There are over eight
hundred and five thousand former Hoosiers knocking around around the world,
and that's about quadruple of what Miami's living alumni bases.

(01:54:13):
But if you add the two together, that's over a million.
But the Hurricanes have the storied history. They have five
ap national championships nineteen eighty three, remember when Bernie Cossar
was a freshman, nineteen eighty seven, nineteen eighty nine, nineteen
ninety one, and now two thousand and one. So it's

(01:54:38):
been twenty five years and they want back in. The
hard Walk Stadium holds sixty five thousand seats that happens
to be the home venue for the Miami Hurricanes and
of course also the Miami Dolphins, and Miami does not
have an on campus stadium now. During the regular season,
the Canes averaged about sixty four thousand fans per game,
almost a sellout.

Speaker 3 (01:55:00):
But this is going to be the first.

Speaker 2 (01:55:01):
Time a college football National Championship playoff game is going
to take place in a participating team's home stadium, even
though ironically the Canes are officially going to be designated
as the visiting team, so a lot of those rabid
Miami fans who already lived there don't have to travel.

(01:55:22):
That I think contributes to the high demand. But along
those lines, given credit because both Indiana and Miami and
their fan bases tip of the cap, they've traveled extremely
well over many miles during this entire tournament. Miami started
their playoff run in a very hostile Texas A and

(01:55:45):
M environment in the first round, and then they stayed
in Texas, beat Texas and the Cotton Bowl, and then
they beat Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, which was
played in Arizona, and they beat Old Miss. Indiana had
a first round by before they dominated. And their performances
in the Rose Bowl in California over Bama and then
the Peach Bowl in Georgia over Oregon. Be that as

(01:56:09):
it may. Regardless of where those games took place, well,
those fans traveled very well. Now, coming up later in
the show, we're going to talk about I think the
storyline here is because Indiana opened up as a seven
point favorite, went to seven and a half, went to eight,

(01:56:31):
went to eight and a half. So Miami money's come
in and catching eight eight and a half. Now if
you are grabbing Miami. But later in the show, we'll
talk about what Miami has to do to beat this
juggernaut known as Indiana, because Indiana doesn't make mistakes. So
the storyline here is more so not what Kurtzig that

(01:56:55):
he did, how he built the college football's best staff,
how he built this amazing program twenty six and two
if they win Monday Night, they'd be the first team
to ever go sixteen to oh. Remember Michigan win fifteen
to O. Clemson went fifteen in O one year. I
think Yale University went fifteen to O one year. They'd
be the first team here goes sixteen in a OLWD.
But in order to do it, several things have to

(01:57:15):
happen for Miami to win this game, and some of
them sound cliche like play mistake free football. But I'll
get to some other granular things as well. We're going
to get to that a little bit later in the show.
Coming up. Coming up, how about the two NFL games

(01:57:38):
that kick off here in just about ten hours Bears
Rams Patriots Texans. We've got some an analysis and break
down on those two, maybe some predictions as well, So
keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports. That's right, you heard the man. The
Bernie Fradle Show keeps rolling right along. My name is

(01:57:59):
Bernie Fraddlewick to the line from the Fox Sports Radio
studios here in Las Vegas will take you up to
three in Pacific, six am Eastern, and I want to
remind the folks for the best for the best pregame
show every weekend, be sure to tune into Fox Sports
Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by BETMGM every Saturday and
Sunday morning. We'll count you down to all the biggest
games for three hours right up until kickoff for all

(01:58:22):
the best plays you up to the second injury news.
Tune into Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bet MGM every
Saturday and Sunday morning right here on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeart Radio app. Well we are eight hours
check that ten hours away from kickoff.

Speaker 3 (01:58:40):
The first game of the.

Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
Doubleheader will be down to the final four, the Texans
and Patriots. We'll tee it up here. And what's interesting
is Houston's defense gets a lot of accolades as by
the way, it's very well deserved. That is a fast,

(01:59:04):
violent defense and they are a bear to go up against.
But the truth of the matter is is New England,
I think is now starting to get some credit, much
more credit for their defense. One of the biggest takeaways
from the Patriots win last Sunday over the Los Angeles

(01:59:25):
Chargers was frankly, how dominant their defense was and Houston
It's become pass ave. You get that from them week
in and week out, But the Pats really seemed to
raster the occasion against.

Speaker 3 (01:59:41):
The Chargers last week.

Speaker 2 (01:59:42):
They held justin Herbert and Jim Harbaughs not so voted
offense to three points. They also sacked Herbert six times
and allowed just one out of ten in third down conversions.
That's a recipe for, you know, winning football. Now here's

(02:00:02):
what will be answered, probably more Sunday, I think later
on today rather than last week. Did did Houston? Did
the Patriots dominate that much because they're getting better and
better and better or is this just the Chargers charging
again and really.

Speaker 3 (02:00:20):
Not being up for the moment. Plus, we know that the.

Speaker 2 (02:00:24):
Chargers offensive line ben at shambles all season. They lost
for Seaan Slater and Joe Alton Herbert was one of
the most pressured quarterbacks in the league. But the truth
of the matter is Chargers have been dealing with that
all year and the Patriots they have shown their defense
can rise to a level and they have a higher
ceiling that people realize. So this should be a real

(02:00:46):
fistfight in the phone booth on Sunday. Now, the Texans,
as good as their defense is I'm not real super
enamored with their offense. Would it surprise me if Texans
w not right Sunday, not at all. They're getting three
points three and a half. Depending where your shop, you

(02:01:07):
would think there would be one upset of the four games.

Speaker 3 (02:01:10):
There certainly wasn't on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (02:01:12):
And I'll get to the Bears Rams in a minute,
and the Rams are a road favorite. Doesn't feel like
you're gonna get an upset there with a home team
dog winning out right, But we'll see. One of the
things that Texans are going to have to deal with
is the fact they're going to be out without their
number one pass catching weapon in Nico Collins. He got

(02:01:33):
hurt in Monday night's game due to a concussion, and
that's a massive blow to their offense. Now, I give
Christian Kirk credit. He stepped up big caught eight balls
for one hundred and forty four yards in a touchdown
that was against Pittsburgh. I think New England will be
a different animal Sunday. They're gonna need either a big
time performance like that out of Christian Kirk otherwise they're

(02:01:55):
going to be one dimensional. And I think, if you know,
I love CJ. Strod but he's gotten into his habit
for holding onto the ball too long. And New England's
got some of the best pass rushers in the business,
so I think that's something to watch as well.

Speaker 3 (02:02:12):
But not for nothing, Houston's pass rush is.

Speaker 2 (02:02:15):
Nothing to sneeze out either, and I think that's going
to be a tremendous challenge for the Patriots offensive line.

Speaker 10 (02:02:20):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:02:21):
And I think New England's defense and Houston's defense, they're
gonna slug it out. And by the way, the Patriots
are going to have Christian Zalaz back. It looks like
he used he suffered a concussion last Sunday. But but
you know, with Christian Kirk with with Christian Zalaz in
the field, it seems like New England's much more uh,

(02:02:42):
much more able to perhaps create a key turnover. Okay,
one last thing for the Texans. This is a tough
scheduling spot. They had to play on the road last
week against Pittsburgh. Fly back to Houston, regrouped, and jump
back on a plan to New England on a short week.
That's some adversity to overcome when you get into a
situation like this, when you're playing for all the marbles.

(02:03:05):
But I will say this, the left side of the
New Enland's offensive line had a bad game last week
against the Chargers. You know Will Campbell, who's a rookie,
but a very good one. He allowed five total pressures
to go along with a sack, and Jared Wilson gave
up five pressures in two sacks. So I think you're

(02:03:26):
going to see a different animal in Houston. Drake May
was hurried a lot. The challenge gets tougher now because
you're talking about a serious lethal Texans pass rush when
you've got guys like Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter. Houston
finished second in the NFL with a forty three percent
pressure eight, So what remains to be seen. If they
can get to Drake May early and often, it will.

(02:03:48):
If they do that, it's going to vote very well
for the Texans. Can't lie. I grabbed the Texans three
and a half earlier in the week.

Speaker 3 (02:03:57):
We'll see what happens. I think the Texas are very here,
But this is a game.

Speaker 2 (02:04:03):
Really. I know this sounds cliched, and you know I'm
not going to equivocate, but this game really could go
either way. The final round of the divisional round of
the playoffs, the Bears play host of the Rams. For
you history Buffs, turn the clock back to January eighty six,
where the Rams went into Chicago lost twenty four to
nothing with Dieter Brockett quarterback and the Bears, well, that

(02:04:24):
was that vaunted Bears team with the Super Bowl shuffle
in Jim McMahon and Walter Payton in company, Mike Dick
his crew and the forty six defense and Buddy Ryan.
The Bears outscored their three playoff opponents that year, the Giants,
the Rams, and then New England and the Super Bowl
eighty six to ten. Chicago's coming off a wild week,

(02:04:45):
this Chicago team is not that team. They did it again.
They start them back from a twenty one to three
halftime deficit to beat the Packers a last minute touchdown pass.
I've been waiting for the Bears to, you know, fold
in this highway act for eight weeks now.

Speaker 3 (02:05:01):
It hasn't happened.

Speaker 2 (02:05:02):
So it raises the rhetorical question, will the Bears continue
their magical run or do the Rams going to Social
Field and win? All right?

Speaker 3 (02:05:09):
What are the storylines?

Speaker 2 (02:05:11):
Well, let's start with Matt Stafford versus the Bears pass defense.

Speaker 3 (02:05:16):
Stafford's had a good year.

Speaker 2 (02:05:17):
He's throwing for almost forty one hundred yards, forty six touchdowns,
only throwing seven interceptions. You would assume that they're going
to have a good day Sunday, but don't go to
sleep on the Bears. Believe it or not. The Bears
are a pass defense that led the NFL with twenty
three interceptions, but at the same time, they're very vulnerable

(02:05:40):
against the pass. The Bears have allowed opponents to complete
just under sixty seven percent of their passes for an
average of almost eight yards per attempt. They got torched
by the Packers in the first half last week. Somehow
they clamped down after halftime. I don't think you can
keep surrendering leads like this and then coming back with
minute to go. I mean, they won seven games in

(02:06:01):
the last two minutes.

Speaker 3 (02:06:04):
The Bears after.

Speaker 2 (02:06:06):
You know, the one thing that could be the Bears
saving grace in terms of giving them a puncher's chance
to win this game against the Rams, and don't make
no mistake, they can win. Okay, the Rams don't have
a guy given right to go in there in five
degree weather and beat the Bears. The Bears are all
of a sudden running the ball. Well, not all of
a sudden. They've been for the past six, seven, eight weeks.

(02:06:28):
They've been running the ball at you know, at a
rate of about five point two yards per carry, and
they lead the league. Almost fifty percent of their carriers
are getting five or more yards, and they had.

Speaker 3 (02:06:37):
Thirty nine explosive runs.

Speaker 2 (02:06:39):
And last week against Green Bay, even though the Bears
didn't run the ball well, they had a pretty good
success rate. But even though it was okay success rate
with DeAndre Swift and Kamon on Guy, it was their
second worst of the season. Their worst was the season
open there against the Vikings when they were still trying
to figure this out with Ben Johnson and everybody. The

(02:07:01):
Rams allow about four yards of carry. They only gave
up a get eighty three against Carolina last week. But
the Bears are going to have to run the game,
run the ball to be in this game. There's no
two ways about it. You can't be one dimensional in
the National Football League. So we'll see how this shakes out.
I know a lot of folks have picked the Rams

(02:07:22):
to win the Super Bowl. I'm not one of them.
The Bears have been pulling Rabbits out of their hat
all season. I've been burned every time I've said this,
but I'll say it one more time. It just feels
like that comes to it end Sunday against the team
that looked like it is the best in the league
in stretches, they stumbled down the stretch. Matt Stafford could
turn into Detroit Matt on a moment's notice.

Speaker 3 (02:07:45):
He did it against Carolina.

Speaker 2 (02:07:46):
He's done it. I'm not predicting that. It just feels like,
if you're comparing quarterbacks and coaches, I'll take Sean McVay
at this stage of the game over Ben Johnson, and
I'll take Matt Stafford over Caleb Williams. Although Caleb Williams
don't go to sleep man. Stafford's going to win the
game by playing on schedule. Caleb Williams is Mahomes esque.

(02:08:08):
He's done it many times this year. He hasn't won
Super Bowls yet, but he's done many times this year.
So they've made fools out of me.

Speaker 3 (02:08:16):
I'll admit it.

Speaker 2 (02:08:17):
Can the Bears do it one more time? It's three
and a half point home dogs, We'll see. I feel
like the Texans and Rams both advanced Sunday, but you
still got to play the game. Just my opinion.

Speaker 3 (02:08:29):
Coming up.

Speaker 2 (02:08:30):
The Steelers waved goodbye to a legend this past week. Yes,
it was mutual. Very interesting situation. How do you process this?
Tomlin had nineteen years as a head coach, the seven
longest tenure in NFL history, never had a losing season.
They're only going to have their fourth coach in fifty
seven years, following Bill Kauer who was fifteen years and

(02:08:51):
Chuck Bull who was twenty three. And you give this
some perspective the Browns and Raiders they've employed forty two
head coaches in that same time. And by the way,
they're looking for coaches again this year. I don't know
what Tomlin's gonna do. He's fifty three years old. I've
always liked him. He was an amical parting of the
ways remains to be seen. If Tomlin gets in a

(02:09:14):
Hall of Fame, ends up in the Hall of Fame.
He's tied for ninth and all time wins. He has
a Super Bowl ring, but the Hall of Fame bars
is higher now for coaches. Nonetheless, given credit to one
of the best coaching runs in NFL history. I like
the way Mike Tomlin prosecuted his business. So who takes
over for Mike Tomlin? Well, the Steelers have already extended

(02:09:35):
some invitations to multiple coaches to fill the vacancy, and
there are eight known candidates. I'll go over them with you.
Six are defensive coordinators, by the way. But these are
the invitations that I've gone on. And please don't talk
about Marcus Freeman. That's not going to happen. You know
that's not going to happen. I don't know whoever published that.
I'm not buying it for one second, but these are

(02:10:00):
my sources. Tell me. These are the candidates that I'll
share with you that got invitations to interview. I'm Bernie
Fraderwick Comedy Life from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Keep it locked you listening to Bernie Fraddleck Show on You're.

Speaker 1 (02:10:13):
Listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (02:10:22):
All right, back at the Bernie fraddle Show, Fox Sports
Radio Comedy Alive from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (02:10:32):
And one of the big news items this week was.

Speaker 2 (02:10:34):
Mike Tomlin stepping down from the Pittsburgh Steelers perch after
nineteen years. And this you forget the speculation from my sources.
These are the invitations of the potential successors to Mike
Tomlin that had been extended to interview, and some pretty
good names on here. Jesse Minter, the defensive coordinator for

(02:10:57):
the Chargers. He's forty two years old. Now.

Speaker 3 (02:11:00):
The only reason I'm mentioning age.

Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
Here is because when you consider the Steelers have only
had three coaches in fifty seven years, I'm sure they'd
like to keep the next one around about nineteen years
as well. That's how they operate. They like stability. When
Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL after Michigan won the
National championship two years ago, well, he took his defensive

(02:11:23):
coordinator with him. His name is Jesse Mintor, and Mintor
wasted no time in coordinating the top NFL defense. The
Chargers held opponents to seventeen points a game this season.
They ranked ninth in points a game, but they had
some injuries. But Mintor is live as a candidate, and

(02:11:44):
he even had a relationship with Mike Tomlin going back
to when he was sixteen years old. Speaking of defense,
Brian Flores, the Vikings defensive coordinator. He's forty four years
old and after the Dolphins fired Flores, in which he
had a three year run. He was twenty four and
twenty five, which doesn't sound too damn bad now after
what Mike McDaniel did. Flores did bring a lawsuit against

(02:12:08):
the NFL, and I believe that's still in process. But
the Steelers, I believe are going to talk to him.
They hired him right after he filed the lawsuit, hiring
as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach for the
twenty twenty two season. Flores got back on track joined

(02:12:29):
the Vikings is their defensive coordinator. He's highly regarded as
a creative defensive mind, as an innovative defensive mind, and
it seems like he'd be a real fit in Pittsburgh
for multiple reasons. It remains to be seen if he
gets the job, but he's he's on the list at
this point. Another defensive coidinator Anthony Weaver from the Dolphins.

(02:12:50):
He's forty five years old. He seems to know that
Steelers Ravens rivalry pretty well. He played for the raven
and Texans in one hundred games as an NFL player. Obviously,
he was a defensive end, but he's been around. He's
paid his dues. He started coaching in college in Florida,
North Texas State, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns,

(02:13:14):
and he joined the Ravens in twenty twenty one. He
served as their defensive line coach and run game coordinator
in the last two seasons. He left to become the
Dolphins defensive coordinator. He's also getting an interview now, gun
to my head, and I don't have any inside information
on this. This next name, I'm going to mention it
may ring a Bell Shula. Yes, he's the grandson of

(02:13:36):
Don Shula. He's thirty nine years old, the defensive coordinator
for the Rams, and he is highly regarded based on
people I've talked to. This is a guy who took
the NFL's lowest paid defense in the Rams and led
it to a top ten finish in points allowed on

(02:13:57):
EPA per play. Now, Pittsburgh has always prided itself and
identified itself on the play of its linebackers, and this
goes back to the seventies. Okay, Chris Shula was a
linebacker himself at Miami of Ohio, and he coached several
places collegiately. Again paid his dues ball State Indiana. He

(02:14:18):
joined the Miami of Ohio teammate Sean McVeigh in Los Angeles,
and after several seasons of coaching linebackers, Shula is promoted
a defensive coordinator this year, and again he's turned him
into a top ten defense in terms of points a
lot and EPA per play. So if the Steelers are
looking for a young guy, a defensive minded coach with

(02:14:39):
the right pedigree and surname, Chris Sjula might fit that mold. Again.
He's the grandson of Don Shula and the son of
former Bengals coach Dave Shula. Chris Sula thirty nine years old.
Of everybody on this list, I got a funny feeling
it's going to be him. So save this, save this tape.

(02:15:00):
We'll see if I'm right. We'll see if I am wrong.
Another guy with the Rams, thirty five year old Nason
Nathan SCHIELOANSI he's the Rams passing game coordinator. He's the
first offensive mind on the list. But there's a reason
for this, the Rooney said just a couple of days ago.

Speaker 6 (02:15:17):
Quote.

Speaker 2 (02:15:17):
The quarterback position will be an important part of this
discussion with the candidates. Well, obviously, Shielhouse. He knows the
position pretty well. He was a four year starter at
the University of Illinois, and then he began his coaching
career at Illinois shortly after his playing career, and he's
always been on the offensive side of the ball, running backs, coach,
offensive analyst. Then he worked in various roles. He moved

(02:15:41):
to Iowa State, excuse me, he coached virtually every offensive
position group. More importantly, he was Iowa State's offensive coordinator
in twenty twenty two and now in the second season
with the Rams. His first season was an offensive assistant
pass game specialist. His current role, he's pass game coordinator,

(02:16:02):
and so that makes him an interesting option because Pittsburgh's
offense this year, even with Aaron Rodgers, left something to
be desired. Back to the defensive side, a name you've
heard over the last two or three years, the defensive coordinator,
forty five years old, the DC for the Carolina Panthers.
We're talking about Hero Averro Now, he was a good

(02:16:27):
college player defensive back, had a cup of coffee with
the Raiders before he started coaching. Was an NFL assistant
with the Niners and Packers. Hired as the Rams safety coach.
He's also been a defensive coordinator twice, the first in
Denver in twenty twenty two, now in Carolina the last
three years. Now. While he was in Denver, He's defensive

(02:16:49):
team ranked fourteenth in points allowed a twenty one a game.
When Nathaniel Hackett was fired and Sean Payton took over,
Peyton was actually interested in retaining a Varro instead Averro
he was out of his contract. I believe he asked
out of his contract. I left for the Carolina Panthers.
And look what a hero Averro did this year at Carolina,

(02:17:11):
defense allowed the fourth fewest yards two hundred and ninety
three per game, and they were without their Pro Bowl
tackle Derek Brown for pretty much the whole year. And look,
there are other stats where o'harroo wasn't good, But remember
he picked off Stafford four times. So this is a

(02:17:31):
name who's come up two or three times in the
last couple of years. Hasn't closed the deal yet. It
doesn't feel like the Steelers will hire him.

Speaker 3 (02:17:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:17:40):
He's going to get a shot, and we'll see where
that ends up. Jeff Hafley, who's damn near become a
household name. He's the Packers' defensive coordinator, forty six years old.
People in the NFL circles rave about him. He's got
ties to Pittsburgh, he's got head coaching experience.

Speaker 3 (02:17:56):
His name is very much on the list, and yes, of.

Speaker 2 (02:17:58):
Course, ironically, he was a wide receiver during his playing days,
but he's primarily worked with defensive backs at various levels
with a bunch of different football teams, the University of Pittsburgh, Rutgers,
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, forty nine Ers, and a
few years ago he returned to the college level as

(02:18:19):
covent co defensive coordinator with Ohio State, and then he
was head coach at Boston College for four years. This
last couple of years, he's been the Packers defensive coordinator,
and the Packers allowed the fifth fewest yards and the
sixth fewest points per game. And he's a coach who's
earned the respect of star players. Michael Parsons raved about him.

(02:18:44):
But here's the kicker of all the names on those lists.
He perhaps has the most CEO type persona that you
want in a head coach in the NFL. He offers
a lot of leadership in tangibles. Those are his strongest qualities.
That's what the people who've worked with him and for
him say. And I know that his defense had a

(02:19:07):
bad second half against the Bears, so that may be
not a great impression, but come on, okay, let's not
split hairs too much. Finally, Clay Klay Kubiak, the Niners
offensive coordinator, only thirty seven years old, the son of
former NFL coach Gary Kubiak and the brother i'll Seahawks
offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak. He's been around the block. Okay, Yes,

(02:19:28):
Kyle Shanahan calls the plays, but Kubiak was involved in
game planning and they run a very modern, trendy offense.

Speaker 3 (02:19:34):
Too bad they were so injured.

Speaker 2 (02:19:36):
The Niners even ranked with all their injuries number seven
in total offense this season. And one of the hallmarks
of Shanahan's offense is it maximizes the potential of quarterbacks,
no matter who you get. Klay Kubiak has something to
do with that. And the Steelers, again, as I mentioned earlier,
I'm going to have to define and develop a young
quarterback in the near future. So those are the eight

(02:19:57):
final well, they're not the finalists. Are the eight invitations
that have on out to take, you know, and they'll
have some big shoes to fill. Whether you like Mike
Tomlin or not, he leaves a hell of a legacy
in Pittsburgh in my humble opinion. All Right, we covered
it all on the Bernie Frowner Show, including the Footballer
is Felled Futbol. I believe there are about one hundred
and fifty six days until World Cup starts. Yep, it's
time Chris Purfetts World of Soccer.

Speaker 5 (02:20:20):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drama.

Speaker 15 (02:20:32):
Him.

Speaker 1 (02:20:36):
It's all here in this report from the World of Soccer.

Speaker 22 (02:20:40):
So before we get to what's been going on in
the Premier League, I should probably start with some notes
as far as what to watch around the world of
soccer this weekend. You do have the Africa Cup of
Nations final happening on Sunday. If you get bayin Sports
or some other means to watch this. This will be
between Senegal and Morocco. Should be a fantastic match with

(02:21:01):
some World Cup implications. The bronze medal match gave us
some interesting tidbits. As one of my favorites to watch
Egypt added up falling in the bronze medal match to Nigeria,
which is no slouch. That game was scoreless going to
penalty kicks and Mohammed Sala and Omar Marmoush both missed

(02:21:24):
their pks, so Nigeria one four to two. Something to
really keep an eye on. As Sala now has to
go back to Liverpool with the Cup of Nations done,
especially coming off this weekend which saw the home crowd
at Liverpool booing the side as they.

Speaker 1 (02:21:44):
Drew one to one with Burnley.

Speaker 22 (02:21:46):
We'll get back to the Premier League, as I said,
but definitely check out Africa Cup of Nations because it's fantastic.
The tournament deserves your support. It doesn't get exactly the
same poll of something like Copa America or Euros because
they're not in the even years, but it is a
fantastic sort of tournament and kind of makes me wish

(02:22:06):
it was a little easier to get into two pm
on being Sports, I think is the North American way
to watch this now. I do like the Italian Syria League.
It's something I always tune into. Some interesting scenes going
as we start to metastasize into what is going to
be the field to run for the final stretch in
here for the last dozen plus games of that season.

(02:22:30):
Internazional once again sitting atop the table with forty nine points,
but it's only about six points or so between them
and Milan. They're in city rival and of course last
year's champion Napoli, very improvable and great as Napoli begins
to reassert its dominance. And of course one club that

(02:22:50):
I consider my own favorite club, Roma up there with
thirty nine points in fourth place, tied with Juventus. But
we haven't seen Juventus for a while, and if you've
only been following soccer for a couple of years, you
have no clue what I'm talking about. Juventus used to
be a club that was dominating Italy for a long
time before scandal really broke them apart. But also very

(02:23:10):
interestingly in the sixth spot is a club named Como.
They were promoted back in twenty twenty four. And this
kind of meteoric rise from the lower rungs from sarah
B up to the top of the table in Syria
is kind of unusual. We do get some early successes
in something like Premier League for a lot of these

(02:23:32):
clubs being promoted, but usually in Italy they stay near
They come up at the bottom and they stay near
the bottom. It's never really something I've kind of seen
in many years. Another promoted side, Pisa once again bumping
back of that relegation zone. Venetzio was kind of that
way too. It's usually kind of been that. I haven't

(02:23:53):
seen this, so something to keep an eye on as
we go on here. I don't think anyone looks predominantly
dominant right now in Syria, which is always going to
open up some fantastic finishes, especially with a field like this.
Now to the Premier League. We did mention the booze
at anfield for Liverpool as the arn Slute years continue
to kind of wear on right now and everyone's kind

(02:24:16):
of feeling extremely frustrated after what had been a successful
season last year now suddenly just kind of falling off
the rails. They're in a spot that I don't think
it's undoable for them to make a jump thirty six
points fourteen back of Arsenal seems kind of tough, but
we are talking about Arsenal here, and Arsenal found themselves

(02:24:37):
in a very frustrating draw nil nil against Nottingham Forest
on something that I think was probably a handball that
should have awarded a penalty kick to Arsenal that they
did not get. Kind of especially against a club like
Nottingham Forest who's gonna be bouncing around that relegation zone.

(02:24:58):
We'll talk about the relegation zone here soon enough, because
that's always very good drama there. But Arsenal slipping a
little bit. The good news is for Arsenal is that
their main competition had a heart on their heels. Manchester
City also slipped. The Manchester Derby on Saturday saw a
two nil victory by United over Manchester City. It's kind

(02:25:23):
of a good start to a new era of man United,
which has really struggled with everything. City dominated them on
possession almost seventy percent of the time, possessed the ball,
and yet they could get really nothing done.

Speaker 1 (02:25:40):
And it's a real.

Speaker 22 (02:25:41):
Shocker of a game, especially since I think at times
we start to think of City as fairly inevitable, looking
at them only seven points back of Arsenal and thinking yeah,
this is probably this feels like they're going to catch up.
They're going to catch Arsenal and that dream will end.
But that really hasn't been the case for City this year.

(02:26:04):
Before this defeat, they had drawn the last three matches
in the Premier League Chelsea Brighton and Hove Albion and Sunderland.
Yeah Sunderland, really Sunderland. Sunderland scoreless draw again Sunderland. I've
got some concerns and it doesn't really get better for
them because they still have to split their time with

(02:26:25):
Champions League and we still need to get into Champions
League and talk about Champions League here as it comes
down to the final league phase matches. Here Manchester City
sits fourth on the table, ready to go in to
the knockout phases and everything. So I think next time
in the world of soccer we will sit down and
talk about how the new look Champions League has continued

(02:26:45):
to gone, some of the surprises that comes to a
close and we start to get the elimination matches. We'll
see you next time, Bernie on the world of soccer.

Speaker 3 (02:26:55):
Now, there are always surprises in the world of soccer.

Speaker 2 (02:26:58):
Wasn't that long ago Leicester City the after five thousand
and one and they want it all and speaking of
the big winning it all, well, the World Cup is
ins upon us. We're like one hundred and fifty six
days away going to be played right here in the
soil in North America and multiple venues near you coming up.
We wrap up the show and we talk about Monday
Night's epic matchup between Miami and Indiana. I'll give you

(02:27:22):
my thoughts. I'm Bernie fraddlewic Kenedy Lyon from Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (02:27:26):
Don't go away. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show.

Speaker 2 (02:27:46):
All right, wrapping it up by the Bernie Fraddle Show,
I want to thank my producers, Mark and Brandon.

Speaker 3 (02:27:53):
Appreciate all the efforts turning all the dials.

Speaker 2 (02:27:55):
Keeping us glued together, keeping the plane in the air,
taking all the phone calls from the midnight callers, hitting
all the marks and brakes, keeping the train on the tracks.

Speaker 3 (02:28:08):
Can't do the show without producers.

Speaker 2 (02:28:09):
Appreciate all the efforts, all right, So Monday Night promises
to be an epic storyline no matter what the outcome
of the game is. Either Miami reclaims its glory from
long lost decades, or Indiana performs the unthinkable. And I'm
going to give you my thoughts, but it's hard. It's

(02:28:31):
hard to talk about this without at least referencing how
Indiana obliterated Oregon. They've been them twice, but the second time,
I mean, the Hoosiers had twenty one points off turnovers
in the first half. They had a thirty five to
seven lead at halftime. Fernando Menduza and his wide receivers
repeatedly just played pitch and catch, and Indiana's defensive front,

(02:28:55):
despite multiple injuries, completely destroyed Oregon's offense line.

Speaker 3 (02:29:01):
And look, it was a situation.

Speaker 2 (02:29:03):
Where Indiana they're not only winning, but they're they're they're
putting teams away. Okay, so now we've got our national
title matchup Indiana and Miami. The Hoosiers opened up as
a seven and a half point favorite. It's been up
to eight and a half and it's around eight now.
They have a fifteen to oh record. You can't make

(02:29:25):
this stuff up. Indiana is favored pretty you know, by
a pretty fair margin to win the national championship. So
the storyline becomes can Miami upset them? Can Miami beat them?
And by the way, I rewatched the Penn State tape
when Penn State had Indiana beat and it caught my

(02:29:46):
eye was Jim Nolesen their offense, their defensive coordinator at
Penn State. Constant pressure on Fernando constant two turnovers led
to ten points ran the ball held Indiana. The field
goals in the red zone. And this is to be
no voted. The game is played at Penn State's home,
Miami is home.

Speaker 3 (02:30:05):
Might that matter?

Speaker 2 (02:30:07):
Well, it won't matter if Miami turns the ball over
because Indiana makes you pay dearly for turnovers. And it
won't matter if they don't win the time of possession,
and it won't matter if they can't control third down. Now,
let me start with a third down aspect of the game,
third down defense versus third down offense. Indiana has created

(02:30:31):
the largest point differential in college football playoff history by basically.

Speaker 3 (02:30:37):
Breaking the opponent's will to live.

Speaker 2 (02:30:39):
Every week, Indiana loves nothing more than to take an
early lead and then step on the gas. It's the
damnst thing I've ever seen. Now, the best way to
do that is to have domination in third down situations.

(02:31:00):
In doing that, you keep the ball, your opponent doesn't
have the ball, and the more you convert their downs,
the more you go down the field. You put yourself
in position to score, which the Hoosiers do. The Hoosiers
offense is a completely ridiculous And then this is just
in the playoffs. The Hoosiers have had twenty eight third
down situations. They converted in twenty of them, twenty of

(02:31:23):
twenty eight, which is an incredible achievement considering that their
two opponents Alabama and Oregon. They entered their matchup against
Miami while seasonally limiting their opponents to below eight forty
percent conversion rate, this comes out to be almost a
seventy percent conversion rate. When you have that kind of

(02:31:45):
offensive efficiency, you're almost unbeatable. And you have that kind
of an offensive efficiency because you have the presence of
an elite quarterback who plays the game with his eyes,
makes excellent decisions, his accuracy and ball plays is par excellence.
I'm talking about Fernana Mendoza. He's done it all season now.
Interestingly enough, you could argue, and I think it's a

(02:32:08):
strong argument. He'll face Fernana Mendoz will face his toughest
test Monday, because Miami's third down defense has feasted over
the past two games.

Speaker 3 (02:32:19):
They came up.

Speaker 2 (02:32:19):
Against very formidable offenses in Ohio State and Old Miss,
and combined Ohio State and Old Miss had twenty third
down situations and the Hurricanes only allowed Ohio State and
Ole Miss to compete to convert on five of those
five out of twenty. Why because the Hurricanes pass rush

(02:32:44):
forced Julian Saying and Trinidad Chambliss to do things with
the ball before they wanted to, and they ended up
making some less than savory choices. So we know that
Miami's defense has done great stopping the third down. The
Hoosiers offense has been virtually unstoppable on third down. Who prevails, Well,

(02:33:06):
Miami's got to make their third down conversion on their
offense as well. That might be their most important statistic
because I don't think they're going to keep up with
the Hoosiers in a shootout, so Miami's gonna have have
to have long drive, sustained drives for them to hang
around and win the game. Okay, And in the semi
final they were thirteen to twenty two on third down

(02:33:27):
against the Old miss and actually they gets fourth downs
two and as a result of that, they won the
time of possession by ridiculous twenty three minutes against Mississippi.
This is a different animal. This is a different animal
that they're facing. However, however, there's one statistic that's cropped up,

(02:33:49):
and that is this could be an indicator and whether
or not Miami could have more success on offense than
perhaps other teams have had against Indiana. Mario Christobaul when
he assembled this team, they look like an NFL team,
frankly based on their size and when you look at it,
when you look at a matchup on the old line,

(02:34:10):
Indiana's D line averages about two hundred and seventy eight
pounds a man. Miami's O line averages three hundred and
thirty one pounds a man. That's a fifty three pounds
difference on average. So is this the smallest offensive check
that the smallest defensive line that Indiana will that Miami

(02:34:34):
will face all year? And how does that manifest itself?
Because look, Indiana leaves the country and tackles for loss
and they rank third and sacks. Now, you know, the
old joke is not the size of the dog in
the fight, but the size of the fight and the
dog just that's Oregon. Okay. So, Indiana's posted six sacks
and sixteen tackles for loss in their first two playoff games,

(02:34:57):
but Miami's offensive success is go into hinge, and it
has hinged in these playoffs. On running the ball, Mark
Fletcher Junior has been a breakout and one of the
main reasons that Miami has been fairly well dominant in
the playoffs. In their three games now, Fletcher has really
been the mainstay. He is averaging one hundred and thirty

(02:35:18):
one yards a game, and if you take a deeper
dive into that, it really shows that part of the
reason is Miami has had favorable matchups on the offensive line,
with Texas A and m and O miss having defensive
units ranked in the sixties against the run, and even
though Ohio States run defense ranked seventh, Fletcher still put

(02:35:41):
up ninety yards. Okay. For the Hurricanes to win Monday,
they're going to have to be able to run the
ball Miami and Fletcher, and if you do that, that
takes pressure off of Carson Beck's shoulders. Finally, on the
other side of the ball, when Indiana has the football.
This will be an interesting strength on strict matchup because

(02:36:03):
on one side, one of the guys playing out of
his mind is Fernando Mendoza, and who happens to be
a Miami native, and he's going home to play his
final college game in Miami. He's throwing eight touchdowns in
the last two games. He's hardly missing on any passes.
He's throwing more touchdowns and incompletions. But he's going to
face the nation's top pass rushing unit that's going to

(02:36:24):
try to get to Mendoza and disrupt that rhythm. Ruben
Vain a key messador. They're the best pass rush due
in the country. Both ranked in the top ten by
Pro Football Focus. The only way to slow down Bain
and company is get the damn ball out of your hands.
Trinidad Shambless was able to do it part of the time,
but not all the time. He got a quicker route

(02:36:45):
than Julian sand did in Texas. Say name is Marcel Reid.
Mendoza is somewhere in between. He's not quite as quick
as Shambless. He's about two point seven seconds. So I
think you might see Indiana come out make some quick
throws to get Mendoza comfortable and they can Also, Indiana
could employ some quick temple. I can't see Indiana losing
this game. I could be wrong. We'll have a great

(02:37:07):
story and I'll report on it next week if I'm wrong,
but I don't want to lay the eight and a
half points and I could like like a damn fool air.
So I'm going to enjoy the game and watch the game.
I think Mindiana will be your college football national champion,
but it won't be without a.

Speaker 3 (02:37:22):
Hard, hard fight.

Speaker 2 (02:37:24):
Hard fought slug fests can for the Bernie Frattle Show,
keep it locked up next to the great Andy Furman
