Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Let's go, thinking, Let's go, big boy, let's go, Let's go.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
You said, quite the panic being an old person not
able to figure out your computer over the last couple
of hours.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
First time in twelve years, I've had trouble connecting, first
time in twelve years. I was totally I was. I
was in panic mode. I didn't know what to do.
I had no I have heard from yet. No, I've
not heard from our engineer. I was screaming for my wife,
and I don't know why, because she.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Doesn't work at Fox Sports. I don't know what she's going.
Speaker 5 (00:33):
To have to set up all your computer stuff because
you can't.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, so I'm screaming for her. She's like, what do
you want me to do? I go, you gotta do something,
do something.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
I call the studio.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Mary answers this, you call the eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
No, I have the back.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Oh okay, Yeah, So I call over.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
There and I immediately tell Mary and they just give
me the lead the producer.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
By the way, for just a moment. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
The show goes on the air at ten pm Central
eleven pm Eastern. You're making these phone calls at like
six o'clock Eastern time.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, about about like three hours before we're supposed to
go on about three.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
So so I go, just give me leek Lee can't
help me.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
So I'm I'm on with Mary facetiming each other trying
to figure it out. And we couldn't figure it out.
So I said, well, I'm just gonna watch the game.
I watched the end of the game, the fourth quarter,
in the overtime, and then we decided, let's give it
one more chance. Otherwise I'm I'm gonna have to have
to Segre do the show for me because I I
just can't figure it out.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
I can't do it.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
What why'd you delete the program?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
I don't know what I did. Don't don't let's not
get technical. I don't know what the hell I did.
I had a great weekend. I watched you to know that.
My wife went up to Vermont.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
She left it like noon on Friday, at twelve oh one.
I ordered enough.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Chinese food to feed a small army. It just sat back,
watched boards, just hung out. A was was it grad.
I didn't even get dressed, didn't even shower for the
whole weekend.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
It was.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
It was a great week and best week to me.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
This is as a trophy husband, your only job, so
I mean, really don't have to do too terribly much
during the week.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
He didn't have to do a whole heck of a
lot the bills laws, so I don't have to send
my wife to the super Bowl, So she's not gonna
go there. She still may go to Italy for the Olympics,
but she at least she's not going to the super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
That makes you happy because you like to see other
fan bases and friends of yours as miserable as you are.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yes, yes, yes, you're root against San Francisco because of
Rich Davis U and because of Mark Willard.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
So I roote against for that which you Rich Davis.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
No, you know, okay, I.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Just root against him.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
So because I just root against other other host team,
I have to have it that way.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
I'm root against.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Seattle because I think with Dan Buyer's as Seahawks fan,
so and I definitely root against the Patriots.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
I hate Patriot fans.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
No disrespect to the Patriot fans out there listening in Boston.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Well, what do you This might be a dumb question, yeah,
But how do you handle the fact that, like you
and and know we're both dolphin fans, if you always
root against everyone else's teams?
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Well, what do you mean? We're both dolphin fans.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
So I'm just saying, it just seems odd that you
just decide to choose that you're going to be anti
every single team that one of our hosts, our fellow
friends here Fox Sports Radio root for.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
It just seems odd to me that.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
I'll be bad, you know that. Yeah, I'm a bad person.
My Rams won today, so I'm happy about that. Now
they're your Ramsha, that's for sure. There you go, all right, Well, congratulations.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Thank you, thank you. And I lived in La a
long time. I like to see.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I'm glad they won. I don't know why Chicago's during
the ball downfield. I'm sure we're going to get into that.
I wanted second and eight and you're at midfield.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
I have no idea why.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Well, I'm I mean, in fairness, they were just kind
of throwing the ball around and things were happening. Did
you see the numbers on that completion by one Caleb Williams?
It was statistically I think they said it had a
seventeen percent chance of even being completely which I thought
was ridiculously high.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
To begin with. But then, I mean, I get what
you're saying.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
And by the way, if you're just tuning in, welcome
The AFC and NFC championship games are set rams at Seahawks,
Patriots and Broncos. But no bo Knicks will talk about
it all night long here on Fox Sports Radio with
Arni and Plank. But I mean, in fairness, they were
just kind of flinging the ball around. I mean the Bears,
there wasn't a really good set offensive plan. It was
(04:44):
all right, throw the ball up, don't get a fourth down,
and have our defense make some place to save it
for us. I was pretty much the approach. It seemed
like they had all game long anyway.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
Right right.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
But I mean once they got into overtime and they
got the midfield when it was second to eight, and
you could tell they were being very cautious. You can't
be downfield like that, especially when there were two guys
covering the one receiver. So a big mistake there probably
wasn't his mistake that it got picked off.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
It was just a bad call, you know, bad bad thing.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
You should have probably just checked on down and just
keep throwing those little small passes. If you're gonna keep
get gonna give your first downs. All you needed was
what fifteen more yards? So you know, what are you
throwing it down for for? For twenty thirty yards? I
don't understand that.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Maybe they thought they had to play, But again I'll
go back to you know you kind of you just
don't complete a pass like they did to get to
overtime to begin with, and why not. Arnie's play that
he is talking about is in overtime after forcing the
Rams on a three and out, the Bears had several
key conversions on what ended up being it was only
(05:52):
it was a ten plate drive that only went thirty
six yards, which is kind of wild with their overtime possession,
but they picked up a key fourth down and on
a second and eight play at the Rams forty eight
yard line, Williams threw deep and he was intercepted by
a Muscoge Oklahoma product, and then the Rams ended up
(06:14):
kicking the game winning field goal twenty twenty to seventeen.
Your complaint seems to be that you're mad that they
threw the ball in that situation.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
Well, I look like I said, I'm not a Chicago
fan or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
But yeah, I'm not throwing the ball down field of
thirty yards when when I away need fifteen yards hand
up in overtime to get the victory.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
You know, I want to know what's going through your mind.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
But really, and you know what you're doing is he
kind of burying the lead here, Chris, Because Okay, the
NFL's got.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
A major problem.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
You know that, right If I had to say, Chris,
what's the one thing that the NFL's got a problem
at right now? If I was going to have you list,
you know, things that they can get better at, would
be the one thing you'd want to.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Work on if you were the NFL.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
The NFL, Yeah, I mean, I don't know, dude. I
thought it was a pretty damn good weekend for the NFA.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
They have a officiating.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
Yeah, okay, yes, absolutely, Not.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Only just in the games over the weekend, I'm talking
through the course of the year. I'm talking through the
course of the years. They are just horrid. And I've
been saying this for a long time, for as long
as we've been doing the show, Chris, They're just horrible
at their job. I'm gonna repeat that, not every one
of them, but you know, in general, they are horrible
(07:35):
at their job. I've never received one of them, but
for the most part, Chris there, they're just damn right bad.
And look, I had no skin in the had no
fight here. I didn't care who won. But if I'm
a Bills fan today, I'm living. I'm living the way
the whole thing went down on that catch, the way
they rested the ball from him when he was already down,
(07:57):
the way they did non chalantly reviewed it.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
I didn't even I didn't even know they reviewed it.
They're like, just let's go, let's pick it up.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
They got a problem these officials. Do you know anybody
that strives to be an official? Usually when people can't
get into sports like you and I, they want to
be on the radio, they want to be on TV.
They want to be a play by play person, you
know something like that, or or you know, be involved
with a team, be a coach. I don't know anybody
that says I want to be an official, And that's
(08:25):
the problem out there. We've got guys that, you know,
maybe just don't understand the game.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
They're not athletic.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
I don't know what it is, but Chris, again, they
are horrible at their job. I mean, if this was
a company, I'd be firing like seventy five percent of them.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
I seriously, if I said, oh, you did a good
job this year.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
You got seventy five percent of your work done and
you did pretty good work.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Any company would say you're out of here.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Could you imagine if I if my boss at Fox
Sports said, hey, you showed up seventy five percent of
the time, you did the work right seventy five percent.
You only make twenty five percent mistakes. So I think
that's pretty good. And they try to say that.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
The officials you make a lot more than twenty five
percent mistake. Yeh wow. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
But so you're you're sitting here arguing about people making
mistakes when you know you and I are the most
mistake prone guys in the business.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
But but go ahead, keep.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
There's there's not consequences on our mistakes.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
And of course we're not.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Going to be a bull game. You tell people that
it's no longer for entertainment purposes only. But I mean, honestly,
you want to be Chris, just about your big Chris.
So there are complications.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Is that my job is to be one hundred percent
right when you're a referee, when you're an official, there's.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
No Eah, you know what.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
I think that's good enough, that's close enough.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
Hold on, we get it. What are you specifically upset about?
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Really? The Bills thing?
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Okay, because I was like, there was four penalty penalties
called in the Rams Bears game and there was one
completion to devontaeity.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
People were freaking out about it.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Right, I know.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
And you know what's so funny is you couldn't even hell,
which would have because there's so many Chris, there's so
many questionable calls that people are losing their marbles over that.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
That's their marbles over one. And then I hear everyone
kind of losing their mind over well in the third quarter,
and with two they missed a pass interfering here, it's
like you the game changing ones everyone freaks out about, right,
and then they've got to find one play from the
middle of the game that they get, Hey, well look
what this happened too. So I feel like a lot
of this is just really one plays freaking out about.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
If we wanted to.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Go through mistakes they made in the first second and
the third cour which we don't really pay attention to. Chris,
then it's gonna then we're really gonna have to break
out the note pad, the yellow legal pad, and start
writing it all down because we're just talking about the Well.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
Do you want holding called on every play?
Speaker 4 (10:46):
It's not what I want, Chris. I want. I want
you to do the rules.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
If the if the rules be called on every single play, well.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Then there's a problem with the rules. Then, Chris, there's
a problem with the rules. No, I don't want every
holding on every play. No, I don't want that. But
I don't want to leave it up to the discretion
of a referee. You know, I don't want him to say, yeah,
I'm in a bad mood today, you better not be
touching him, or I'm gonna be calling holding on every playing.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
I can't have something like that.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
And seriously, you know you call two pass interferences in overtime?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
I mean, are you crazy? Could let me ask you this.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Do you think that the NFL we're happy about those
two pass interference? Do you think the NFL said if
the same thing happened in the Super Bowl, you should
call it again. And that's the way the super Bowl
should end.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
They lose their mind if something like that happened in
the Super Bowl. You can't do that.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Chris, did you not think that the past interference on
Marvin Mims wasn't past interference?
Speaker 2 (11:45):
I think you could just call it either way. They
were letting, you know, joust for the whole night.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Chris. I think it could have been a no call
and you could have moved on from that.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
I thought he mugged him.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
I mean, oh, there was a lot of mugging going on,
but there's a lot of you're all of the Bills
Broncos game last night.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
I mean, I mean the pass was perfect and the
guy grabbed them. I mean it was textbook pass interference.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Let me ask you. You you're on the field during the
Oklahoma game. Certainly you meet officials, right You talk to
officials that fly in, and what are they like fifty
eight years old, been sitting behind the.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Desk all week long, a lawyer, you.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Know, or something like that, and is the only exercise
they get for crying out loud?
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Come on, now, let's go.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
I'm I hate to break this to you, but ninety
of the officials are in damn good shape.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Oh I mean, okay, yeah, especially the old guys that
could barely get up and down the field.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Well, I think those are starting to kind of be
phased out a bit. I mean, I think you're looking
at things a little antiquated there. I say that as
I watched this official from the Patriots Texans game trying
to back up on a play. But I think you're
really I think you're painting a broad brudsh that's a
little bit unfair. Not every official is some fat, out
(13:04):
of shape guy out there running around trying to make calls.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Arnie.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
No, but wasn't it if you took a vote right
now and said, do you think the officials are doing
a good job? Give me a grade on the officials.
They'd probably be in the sea range, you know when
it's all and that's people don't think the officials are.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Doing a good job. Let's say that.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Okay, Well, let me ask you this. How do you
fix it?
Speaker 3 (13:29):
I think you have replaying, You've got play, You've got
uh every so you got replaying. Everyone gritch and moan
about it takes too long. You got expected to replay,
and then people get mad because they didn't tang long enough.
You want more experienced drafts. Now you're making fun of him,
calling them all old and fat. So just help me
better understand how you fix this. If you're Roger Goodell.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
I think you go out and recruit players, or excuse me,
recruit people to become an official. I think you know,
when a lot of these guys don't end up becoming players,
they're looking to get in and be still involved with
the sports.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
I know a lot of them want to go to.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Coaching, but officiating is a good way to also do this.
There's a lot of former players that go on to officiate,
and I think you've got a recruit a lot of
younger players, people that have played the game, that know
the rules, that have a feel forward, you know, not
just guys like hey can I get next to paycheck?
First class? I'm bed, let's go, so come on.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
So, your big takeaway from the weekend was not the
amazing game between the Broncos and the and the Bills.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
It was I loved it until.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
I'm just settle down. I'm not arguing.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
I'm just asking not the wild finish we had between
the Rams and the Bears, or even I guess it
was just the aesthetics of the Patriots and the Texans, right,
and the snow that was cinematic throughout the whole game.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
You had to blow out with the Seahawks and the Niners.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
But like, do you think the big takeaway from this
weekend is that the NFL has an officiating problem?
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Absolutely, that'd be the first thing I'd put out there.
Number One, You've got a major I don't know. Let's
see what the people in Buffalo have to say. Do
you think they feel like there's an officiator? Oh, let's
see what the people in Denver have to say. I mean, dude,
there's two sides of every single coin.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
And I will say, and I will say, it's wild
to think about how much this show impacts like my
day to day life.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
Because as soon as.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
The Bill's lost last night, Yeah, I the first person
I thought of was our man Paul, who has been
as consistent of a contributor to this program as we've
had in gosh, what like the last seven eight years. Yeah,
And immediately I'm thinking about him and the Bills fans
whom watch.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
I mean, he's not gonna William VP this year, but
an MVP winner.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
And Josh Allen, a guy who has done everything, But
you know, get to the Super Bowl. Miss a wide
open tight end that would have left any of these
conversations like like moot right and that terrible turnover at
the end of the first half. I mean, I'm still
trying to figure it out.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Well, I have no idea, but I knew that was
happening the way he was holding the.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
I go, you better tuck that go. We'd not to
think a pitch of that ball is he I don't
even know what he was thinking, to be honest.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Kind of shows you how much of an impact that
had last night. But I know, I know you guys
have feelings. So the best way to get in touch
with us throughout the evening tonight he's on x You

Speaker 3 (17:26):
I know you don't handle adversity, well, so how were
you doing with your equipment not working?
Speaker 5 (17:32):
I want to know how many calls were made?
Speaker 4 (17:34):
That was a lot of call. I called you and
you couldn't help me.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
I will.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
The way the equipment Arn't he uses is different than mine,
and I've never used what he uses.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
I called our producer Lee. He couldn't help me. I
called Mary Mary. I called our engineer.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Mary's used to helping old people.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
And then I even texted the boss of the company.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
Well came up.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
I don't think he's asleep. I think he's grinding away.
It's only eight thirty on the West Care.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
But it's a suddenly night. You never want to call
the boss on the Sunday night.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Especially whenever you're calling to say, hey, I can't figure
this out.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
YEA, well way to you, though, I blame you, you
blame me. I said, I don't know what Plank did.
He shortened something on my computer.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
I don't know what he did the computer I've never
seen in my life, my phone. I'll how about this
from Paul. Paul's got a series of tweets or ee
throughout the night, but he writes, here is my feeling.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
I don't blame the refs.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
The Music City Miracle was on the kickoff team not
staying in their lanes, whether it was a lateral or not.
With yesterday, if m he's given you context here, just
settle down. Same with yesterday. If McDermott doesn't screw up
at the end of the first half and gift Denver
three points. Those calls wouldn't matter what.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
I McDermott's the one that fumbled. I'm sorry, my bad man.
He made the call to run the play. I guess
this guy he didn't. He didn't tell Josh how to
do that, so come on now, stop it.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
He could have told him to take an me could
have done that. Yeah, that's one thing that they could
have done. NFL ref Stats, which, by the way, this
is a really good Twitter feed to follow at NFL
ref Stats one. I don't know who runs it, but
they're very good and they always have good perspective. Now
you're not gonna like it because sometimes they'll actually have
(19:19):
common sense takes right, So.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
That's maybe it is.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
The NFL doesn't have an officiating problem, Arnie, in the
sense it's impacting their bottom line. The league's ratings and
revenues are higher than ever. The other option is calling
holding on every other play and get fifty penalties a game.
Either way, you get people complaining on every call. Slash
no call, and sports betting has been a big reason
(19:47):
why it's happening.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
But Chris, I'm not even complaining about holding and not holding.
I never complained about that. Sure, if you want to,
we could break down every play and see which ones
they miss.
Speaker 5 (19:58):
But that's what makes all summer shows really easy.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
But but but it's all about when you have blatant
you know, if it's a catch, it's not a catch,
and and stuff like that, and you just have blatant
mistakes and you don't go through the right protocol, that's
when you start getting upset. That's when you're like, no, no, no,
this this isn't right. How many people you actually think
did you think that was a catcher? Did you think
(20:22):
that was an interception? Be honest, I thought it was
that pick. I thought he took it from him. I
thought it was an interception.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
There's no doubt in my mind that was a catch,
no doubt of mine.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
You and Sean mcdermoty Green then yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Yeah, And I have no dog in the fight, Chris,
but you know he's down on the ground, he's got possession.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
You can't wrestle the ball away.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
You can't do that again.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
I think there's one thing Apps, and I don't know
if it was Gene's sterotor who put it out there
or not.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Okay, it probably was. I think I know you were.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
The slow motion it.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Whenever you do that, it's like you're watching it in
slow motion or watching it still like look see, I mean,
it's just I think in real time, dude had it,
had it stripped from him before he maintained possession to
the ground and took it away.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
I'm not gonna lie to you.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
It's not something where I'm gonna stand on this hill
and say I'm ready for you to put.
Speaker 5 (21:15):
A gun to me my head. And this is what
I feel.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
I'm not like ready to die on this hill or anything.
But as I sit here tonight, I looked it down
as a pick defenderman a hell of a play.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Yeah, no, he did.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
He made it good, he followed through. I'll give him
all the credit of the world. You're one hundred right
on that and you can't get them. You should never
let the ball get wrestled away from you in that
type of situation.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Also, I think Cooks was knocked out was part of ye.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
So I agree with you're there and look, you don't
deserve to win the game when you're turning the ball
over what four times? The records like one in eighty
five when you sure have four turnovers in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
I understand all that.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
It's just that, you know, when you have a good
game going and you ended in an outrageous play like
that and then you have two passive apperances that give
you fifty three yards, Sure, maybe I'll give you one.
I can't give you both. I can't give you. You know,
if you go holding on every play, you call just
about passive appearance on just about every play were they're
(22:14):
grabbing the receiver past the five yards. Maybe it's not
so blatant, but I can't call it probably about eighty
percent of the time, Chris Well.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
I mean, if you want to be that guy, like
we said, you could probably call a foul in every
single play in the NFL. I mean, I truly want
to be that guy, and I know you don't want
to be. But I will say it seems odd that
you would say that you don't have a dog in
this fight when your wife is a Bills fan. I mean,
you obviously do, and she could be putting you up
to tonight Arnie coming on here and saying that that
(22:44):
was not a catch, that was not an interception, that
was a catch. This is there any deal that's being
made with Beth here tonight.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
No, No, but was calling me up on the phone
and screaming like a like a drunken sailor. I'm not
going to deny that she was upset about that, but
you know, it didn't make a difference to me.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
All it saves me money and I don't have to
send it to the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
But I feel bad for Bill's fans, felt terrible for
Josh Allen having that type of game.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
But unfortunately, you know, it comes down to a play
like that, and then.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
All people talk about Chris are the back to back
pass interfear and shit.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
You can't get that. You can't do that.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
All right, Well, let's get you caught up on the
news and notes and headlines from the two games today.
And obviously despite what we saw today, still a lot
of hurt feelers from what took place last night in Denver,
and then of course to fall out afterwards with the
every Buffalo fan yelling bull do't lie when we learned
the bow Nicks was hurt to see see you cheated
(23:43):
and now you lost your quarterback. Here's to saga, it's trending.
Good evening, Steve to sega, what's going on, buddy.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Well, that's logic. I guess you can't. That's right.
Speaker 7 (23:52):
We had the Rams advancing in New England as well.
You brought up that incredible essentially hail Mary that Caleb
Williams had to tie the game in regulation. Next Gen
stats has been around for a decade, so they can
actually say how long, how far.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
In the air the ball was on that one.
Speaker 7 (24:09):
It goes down in the box score it's a fourteen
yard touchdown pass to Cole Comet to tie the game
against the Rams tonight, but he backed up so much
trying to avoid the rush, almost to the midfield logo.
He chucked it fifty one yards in the air to
the tight end in.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
The end zone, which I couldn't kick it fifty yards.
Speaker 7 (24:30):
Well, their kickers in the league, I'm tempted to say can,
but that would be for a red zone down. The
longest completed pass by air distance in the decade that
they've had next Gen stats, And you're right, the completion
probability on that he was about seventeen percent.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
And they wanted to push off.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
I wish I can give you an answer, but they
never showed us if he pushed off or not.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
It never brod go it.
Speaker 7 (24:53):
We just saw the space afterwards in the end zone.
The NFL went one more on what we just talked
with that heat did the end zone for Chicago because
they said in the next Gen era, this past decade
in the NFL, there have been over eight thousand touchdown passes.
This one from Caleb Williams tonight. He threw from twenty
(25:15):
six yards behind the line of scrimmage. There hadn't been
a single pass completed from that deep, much less for
a touchdown in the entire last decade of every gang
total in.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
The National Football League.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
For the Bears to be the team to have seven
comeback wins when they were trailing with the last two
minutes of the fourth quarter on the clock and then
do that to send it to overtime, didn't you think, oh,
my goodness, it's actually going to happen again. And no,
the Rams, Los Angeles in the snow beat Chicago in
overtime twenty to seventeen.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
It was so quiet. I mean, yeah, it's like three
hours after the game. It was like sh every was
like just hush. It was horrible.
Speaker 7 (25:58):
And I think we can all agree on that generally
that so many people are on the air talking about
sports for so many hours, there tend to be a
lot of idiotic things said. I think that's a fair stage, really,
because not a lot of thinking goes into some of
the sentences, one of which was, well, the LA team's
not going to do well in the cold weather. Okay, people,
(26:19):
do you what supports that?
Speaker 5 (26:21):
Okay?
Speaker 7 (26:21):
The quarterback for Chicago had played more time in Los
Angeles than he had in Chicago. And the running back
for the Rams is from Notre Dame and had two
touchdowns tonight, And which team played the Eagles by far
the best in the playoffs a year ago?
Speaker 5 (26:36):
It was the Rams in the snow at Philadelphia.
Speaker 7 (26:39):
So you people, anyway, we've had people back to back
days with overtime playoff games. First time we've had two
overtime games in any postseason since the Chiefs four years ago,
when they themselves had back to back weekends with overtime games.
But Associated Press points out that with yesterday and Denver
and tonight in Chicago, those postseason overtimes ended on the
(27:03):
third total possession of ot with a field goal by
the team that lost the coin to US.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
So the Rams advance.
Speaker 7 (27:11):
They'll be in the NFC title game next Sunday at
Seattle on Fox TV, the later game six thirty Eastern
and if you remember the Rams game that Thursday night
or late season at Seattle and absolute classic. Give us
anything close to that and we'll be happy. Matthew Stafford
when he faces in the playoffs former number one overall
(27:32):
picks like himself, He's now four and one in his
postseason career against them, including beating Caleb Williams tonight. Williams
had two touchdown passes but three interceptions as well one
in ot. In fact, Matthew Stafford's playoff record Divisional round
or later is four and one.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
There was a rumor that he went into the stands
and he was crying, Oh no, that was a different game.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
A different game, different.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Oh it was a joke, people, it's a joke. It's
a joke. Don't take it serious. It's a let's go.
Speaker 7 (28:01):
And just confirming Matthew Stafford's greatness of his career.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
And I mean that word.
Speaker 7 (28:07):
There are some people with an agenda that might say, oh,
it's just empty yardage, and I don't know about the
Hall of Fame and all of this what how many
game winning drives does this guy have? The answer is
fifty five in the fourth quarter or overtime, including tonight.
That is eleven more than the next closest QBS since
(28:28):
he entered the league in two thousand and nine. Amazing
stat that I mentioned on the prior show. Here Sean
McVay still alive in the playoffs. He's going to coach
another postseason game. Tonight was his fifteenth career playoff game.
It's been against fifteen different opponents. What I didn't know
that was even mathematically possible, but literally that's the extended
(28:49):
that it could be because there are what fifteen other
teams in his conference, and he faced New England at
a Super Bowl and.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
The mill talk.
Speaker 7 (28:59):
To Pro football talk got repeated this weekend. New England
at home eliminated Houston.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
Double check on yourself, No he.
Speaker 7 (29:06):
Can't New England next weekend for the AFC titles. New
England eliminated the Texans twenty eight to sixteen as C J.
Stroud through four interceptions in the first half, including a
pick six. The late NBA game seven minutes to go
in LA, the Lakers are leading Toronto ninety seven eighty five,
Luka Donsich was out with a sore growing last night
playing tonight and has twenty five points. Portland and Charlotte
(29:30):
each one on the road.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
The NBA All Star Game starters will be announced Monday.
Of course.
Speaker 7 (29:34):
College football's National title game is Monday night, Indiana at Miami,
and former Colorado quarterback Ryan Stobb is transferring to Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Back to you, no Arizona Central Florida score.
Speaker 5 (29:46):
He was a good game. You were the one who
didn't think that was going to be a good game.
The saga's right, by the way, Yeah, about what the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
The first year that Sean McVay was head coach of
the Ram was seventeen. Now first trip he made the
playoffs as their head coach, all right, By the way,
the Rams had admitted the playoffs for thirteen years from
two thousand and four to twenty seventeen.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
That's wow.
Speaker 7 (30:10):
Even more amazing when they finally let Jeff Fisher go
and hired McVeigh after that first year in LA, they
literally went from the worst offense to the best offense
pastcar one year.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
It's gonna happen in Vegas next year too. You watch.
So here are the playoff teams that he's played.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
He's played the Falcons, the Cowboys, the Saints, the Patriots
and the Super Bowl, the Seahawks, the Packers, the Cardinals,
the Buccaneers, the Niners, the Bengals in the Super Bowl,
the Lines, the Eagles, the Vikigs, the Bears, and the Panthers.
Fifteen playoff games, fifteen different teams.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
And now at Seattle. Oh my gosh, that's crazy.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Well that'll be the first one they've played twice twenty
twenty playoffs.
Speaker 7 (30:50):
They went there to Seattle, that's right, and that was
with no fans because that was the COVID year.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
So see it's even still special.
Speaker 7 (30:56):
Yeah, go oh yeah, that got brought up because Seattle
won in front of those loud fans yesterday with fans
in attendance. The Seahawks have won their last eleven playoff.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Games in a row of there, so was that their
last loss then, yes, rams with no fans.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
That's crazy. Good stuff to sagre.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
Steve will be back in about twenty minutes or so,
and he's got the we're still trying to find the
name after eleven years. That a segment coming up in
about an hour from now. All right, good stuff on Twitter.
But let's real quick, let's start, let's start paying off
some of the teasers off this Roman numeral rundown. Yeah,
anything really to take Obviously, Caleb Williams, that throw you
(31:34):
heard the Sager bring it up was amazing.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
We've got fall numbers from it.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
I still never saw if Camet pushed off, but I
think this was along the lines of the numbers the
next gen stats twenty six and a half yards behind
the line of scrimmage. No quarterback since twenty sixteen had
it completed a pass from a depth of more than
twenty two yards. He kept backtracking and backtracking. I'm like, oh,
my gosh, what's he doing. I'm like, oh, he knows
exactly what he's doing. But you know, Big Johnson talks
(32:01):
a lot of gas, aren't he. I Mean, the dude
talks a lot of trash. But it seems like for
two teams that got eliminated this week, and I think
the future is really bright.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
One of those is obviously the Bears. I think the
other ones the Texans. But I think you're starting to
sell me a little bit on CJ.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
Stroud.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
We had two legend, big time quarterbacks, really struggling their
big moments this weekend in obviously brock Purty and everyone's
beat up around him, so that's tough.
Speaker 5 (32:26):
And then c J Stroud today.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
C J Stroud very disappointing. I mean it was like
every time he was touching the ball, he was fumbling.
I know Drake may made some major gafs also, it
was it was just a turnover fest.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
I know that was bad weather, but I didn't expect that.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Many turnovers, to be honest with you, especially with Drake Babers.
They were just slapping the ball out of his hand
when he was going back to the past.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
But just a horrible game for CJ.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Stroud, noah fans or buds about it, and I certainly
wish he had a chance to go ahead and do
that one again. He's gonna feel that one for a while.
I didn't want to ask you this though. I put
in Roman numeral number sixteen. When a team looses a
tough one, like like the Bills, os who's a tough
ro on something like Josh Allen, the players, the fans, or
like the city in general, the city of Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Do you think it's tough for on?
Speaker 5 (33:14):
Oh, that's that's a good question.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Like the part of me wants to say the fans
just because there's been so much heartache and heartbreak, and
if it's not the player's last game, then they have
an opportunity to go back to work, take a little
time to get away, you know, get a little vacation
and recharge the batteries and go back to work. But
I don't know, man, the way that Josh Allen seemed
(33:39):
after that game and McDermott even picking up the phone.
Speaker 5 (33:42):
And call on a beat right from the price right right,
you know.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
It hurts the city though, it really does.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
I know that, But I mean just the I mean
when when when it happens, Like when I was living
in Buffalo, people like, oh, you live in Buffalo, and
immediately they go you know, it's like the City of
Losers and the Bills, the four time Losers.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
It used to be like, what if you said you
were from Cleveland. It just gives the.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
City, gives the city a bad name, gives the city
a bad knock.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
I don't know why, but it just does.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
That's what people think about when you say you're from
Buffalo or Cleveland or something like that.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
Well, I think that's a fair question.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
I guess if markets are different too, Like nobody seems
to care in New York.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
You know, it's like the Jets, but they well, but
they do exactly. They say, just giants, you know, major
market and New York has no football and blah blah
blah and stuff like that. But well, I would say
it's probably a little bit harder on the fans unless
it again, unless it's a final game and it's I
think the fans in the city are one and the same.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
Though, Yeah, you're kind of right about that.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
But the Rams beat the Bears today, and I'll tell
you what, I feel somewhat good because the Rams were
my preseason pick to make the Super Bowl. But after
watching Seattle on Saturday night and being a fan of
Mike McDonald and what he's done defensively, and you know,
there's just this incredible mix of guys that like weren't
(35:07):
like has beens and never were gonna bes and then
stars and their defense reminds me a lot of like
the old Raiders offenses, where it's.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Like, hey, that guy, whn't he around?
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Before you know, Leonard Williams is out there making plays
and he got a couple of young guys that are
doing things for him.
Speaker 5 (35:22):
I don't know, I just I think I'm kind of
falling for Seattle. Damn. I think they might win the
Super Bowls.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Yeah, it is a little scary, how about that? You
know what I really love about is Sam Darnold. You know,
talk about a guy that got his revenge. He was like,
oh what a bust he is, and with the Jets
and talk about saving a career. That's why I always
wonder these guys that end up with the Jets or
some bad team, you know how good they could really
(35:48):
be if they were on another team.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
And then like a Patrick Mahomes, is.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
He really that great with Patrick Mahomes gone fifteen to
two if he.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Was on the New York Jets l though.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
So you know, you just have to be drafted by
the right te right place of the right tide, and you.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
Know, find someone that gets you in that right fit.
I mean it wasn't just the Jets. Darnold also went
to the Panthers and kind of had a disaster there
but had a chance to kind of reboot the system
with the court. You always make fun of the quarterback whisper,
but the year he had in San Francisco might have
been the most transformative year, goes to Minnesota, tears it up,
(36:27):
and now he might be on his way to the
super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
By the way, I think you kind of owe me
an apology because the one thing I've been screaming at
you about is gonna come true next week. You need
a pretty good backup, don't how about that?
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Big boy?
Speaker 5 (36:40):
Never okay this.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
No one has ever misconstrued an argument and tried to
move the goalpost more than you on this. You think
that there's gonna be load management in the NFL and
that I'm like, yeah, No, there's not gonna be load
management in the NFL the quarterback position, and then somehow
that's become Oh so, I guess you don't need a
backup quarterback. No, every team needs a good backup quarterback.
And we'll talk about why it's important in the AFC
(37:04):
next with Arnine Plank right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 3 (37:11):

Speaker 5 (37:40):
All right, you want to hit some of these tweets
here real quick.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
You got on today.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
If you want to tackle a Roman numeral, it's up
to you.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
No, let's hit hit some of the tweets. We're getting
a lot out there.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
The very first tweet that we got hits on a
very interesting topic because the chemistry professor seems to be
a candidate for every single job that's out there right now.
Shady Sean for twenty rights with my Titans, and they're
moved up in person head coach interview with the forty
nine ers defensive cornator Robert Salad to Monday. He'll add
(38:12):
the chemistry professor. Mike McDaniel is his OC hashtag tighten up.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
I send to a story that he might become the
head coach of Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
He interviewed and I was just laughing. Oh, poor Chris.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
Blank, its start up about it?
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Oh you were not fired up about him?
Speaker 5 (38:30):
What did I say? What did I say?
Speaker 3 (38:31):
I'm like, finally he'll get some pieces around him that
know what they're doing. Yeah, that's that quarter back in
the league who's coming in after winning a championship.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
Don't.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Yeah, I think he's a good coach. You're the one
that can't stand him.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Well, I mean when we were starting one and six,
what part of you thought that was a great coach?
Speaker 5 (38:49):
Oh, what's happening again?
Speaker 3 (38:51):
When Arnie has a take that everyone disagrees with, it started,
Quinton starts cutting out on him.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
You just dropped for like a millisecond. What were you
saying when they was one and six? What part of
it did you think he was a great coach? Then?
Speaker 4 (39:03):
I didn't hear that part.
Speaker 5 (39:04):
I didn't think it was his fault.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
Well, not all his fault, that's for sure.
Speaker 5 (39:09):
You were the one.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
You were the one, by the way that was that
was saying, well, you were standing behind him.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
Look, I don't think he's awful or anything like that.
I do think he's a better coordinator, but who knows.
Maybe do you think he'll get ahead coaching job or
do you think he'll end up as a coordinator.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
This cycle has me so screwed up. I don't know
who's going to get what job. The first two hires
right are retreads. And that's not a knock on John
Harball or Kevin Stefanski, But it's two guys, aren't he
that just got fired? Stefanski got fired in Cleveland and
Harbaugh got fired in Baltimore.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
I was crying about Harbob. I'm so disappointed.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Well, you had guaranteed him to Miami last week, and
we tried to tell you, but you just you don't
listen to us.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
So it's I don't Yeah, but I would say.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
I'm a firm believer that he's going to get another job,
a head coaches job, and I think it'll be somewhere
like Arizona that that you know, a few guys get
hired out from underneath him. You know what, Brady's really, really,
really involved with the Raiders a lot more than I
thought he was going to be in this search.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
And I haven't counted out Brian Flores.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Yeah, I think there's a chance Flores is the next
head coach at Pittsburgh. But Salah is also a retread.
You know, he's a guy that's had a job before.
But everyone kind of looks at.
Speaker 5 (40:26):
It like they Yeah, I like it too. I think
it's gonna do good. Round two. All right, listen, that's
a quick hour one.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
We're just getting started in the NFC and AFC Championship
game previews. Todd Furman is coming up next hour, and
Arnie's picks right around the corner, So keep the tweets coming.
We'll kick off next hour with the best right here
with Arnie Plank on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
All right, here we go. It's Arne in playing.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
Can you imagine watching the Super Bowl at noon?
Speaker 5 (41:01):
I mean, I know, why, what where is it on
at noon?
Speaker 2 (41:06):
Well, Hawaii, it's on at noon, Okay, And I always
do a hit like every couple of weeks with our
other affiliate, Fox Sports New Zealand. Okay, I think it's
I think it's on at noon there. Also, they're big
in New American FOOTBA out there.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
You wouldn't believe him.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
You know, he almost started International Riot last time I
was on there. An International Riot on a New Zealand station.
Is the network Fox Sports.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
New England is what our New Zealand is what it's called.
Speaker 5 (41:34):
Okay, so we're on in New Zealand right now.
Speaker 4 (41:37):
I can confirm that.
Speaker 5 (41:38):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
I insulted, like, there Michael Jordan out there, some famous star.
Speaker 4 (41:45):
He's a cricket player. I don't even know his name.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
Now, well hey, he's like yah, yeah, he's like, we
have a big star studio and they gave me his name.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
I go, oh, let your name again.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
He's like, he's a big cricket star out here. I go, oh, yeah,
score a touchdown?
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Why would they Why would they even well, you know what,
they probably just assumed that you would know that, because
I would assume that if we went on there, everyone
would know who all our star football players are. So
I mean, why would they even assume you would know that?
Speaker 2 (42:15):
Oh well, he's like the Michael Jordan of cricket or something.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
I guess. Okay, but you don't remember his name?
Speaker 4 (42:24):
Hold on, I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
I'm not, but I but I think he got insulted
on like, hey, how many touchdowns and home runs do
you have?
Speaker 6 (42:31):
There?
Speaker 3 (42:31):
Is the Michael Jordan of cricket? Is actually someone called
shit shin kindoker?
Speaker 4 (42:39):
Does that sound right, No, no, no, well some other.
Speaker 5 (42:43):
Guy, well that's it, wasn't him.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
Do you know anything about cricket?
Speaker 5 (42:47):
Do you know that? Not a thing?
Speaker 4 (42:48):
Yeah, to say, I was in a bad situation there, so.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
We were you know, I don't even have a story
for it.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
I was gonna say, we're watching the Lions, the Witch
and the Wardrobe, and they were playing it for a
little bit, but like that, literally, I have no story.
Speaker 4 (43:00):
They love American football. There's all that.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
Everybody has their favorite team out there, weird teams, but
they love American football.
Speaker 5 (43:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
And the NFC Championship game is the Rams at Seattle,
and the AFC Championship Game is the Patriots at the Broncos.
So we got a lot to preview Todd Ferman's coming
up in fifteen minutes. I will admit some some stupidity
and not realizing this. Do you know who has the
longest NFC drought for being in the championship game?
Speaker 2 (43:28):
The longest NFC drought for not being in the NFC
Championship game.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
That's right, the Bears, the cowenty ten. It's Dallas Cowboys.
The last time the Dallas Cowboys were in the NFC
Championship game nineteen ninety five. Wow, now some of you
might be yelling, what about the Panthers. Jake Deelowe twenty
fifteen made a run. Giants made around in twenty eleven,
Hell won the Super Bowl. Since then, so Washington, what
(43:56):
the Commanders people forget? They played the Eagles the NFC
Championship Game in twenty twenty four. That was last year whatever.
Everyone was over the moon talking about Jade Daniels should
have been picked over Caleb.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Williams, and now a year later it's like, who would
what Daniels? Caleb Williams is the man a year later,
So just kind of crazy to think about it. Since
nineteen ninety five.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
Even in Arizona, like you said, went to a Super Bowl?
Speaker 5 (44:22):
Well, I mean Arizona, what was that? Twenty fifteen?
Speaker 3 (44:25):
Yeah, they played the Carolina Panthers in the right Well
they played they I was saying. They played Carolina in
the NFC Championship Game and then they played Pittsburgh in
the Super Bowl. Early numbers, what have you seen out there?
Numbers wise on the spreads, that's a ignorance got a claim.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
New England opened up as a four and a half
point favorite, and right before.
Speaker 4 (44:48):
We went on the show.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
I checked it again and it went up to five
and a half, so immediately all the money came in.
Speaker 4 (44:56):
It is still currently at five and a half.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
The Patriots are the favorite and forty and a half
is the over unders. So not a lot of love
out there for Jared' Stidham, no doubt about that.
Speaker 3 (45:11):
Here's what FanDuel has for the Seahawks Rams two and
a half in favor of Seattle.
Speaker 5 (45:15):
Does that surprise you at all?
Speaker 2 (45:17):
That's what I see, two and a half over forty
seven and a half. Yep, I'm surprised it's actually that low.
I thought maybe Seattle would be like about a five
point favorite. You get what three for home and especially
if the leg yeah, you can get four for home.
So there's four points right there. If you consider them equals,
(45:39):
it should be at least a four point spread. But
I think Seattle's a point or two better. You can
really make a case for it.
Speaker 4 (45:45):
It should have been.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
A five or six point spread. But you know, Vegas
makes these lines, so you get equal money on both teams.
If you would have put it that much, I think
a lot of people would have run to the window
to bet the Rams.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
Rams and Seahawks split their season series. Points in the
two games for the Rams fifty seven for the Seahawks,
including that Rams Thursday Night Special Team's meltdown. Total yards
in those two games Rams eight hundred and thirty yards Seahawks.
Speaker 5 (46:11):
Eight twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (46:12):
Wow Field Yates, thanks for doing the research on that
one on Twitter, and I like this. I saw this
on the FanDuel Sports Twitter feed. This is quite the
story of the final four quarterbacks, right. You got Sam Darnold,
one of the great comeback stories that we've had in
the league. Kind of similar to like a Rich Gannon.
Not the amount of time in the league that Gannon had,
(46:33):
but still incredible. Gandon also won a Super Bowl. Are
using an MVP, did not win the Super Bowl? Darnald
trying to do that. Matt Stafford looking for his second
and could he walk away? Could it be Sayonara? You know,
I think you've tried to retire him about five years
in a row now. Also, I think he's in the
Hall of Fame FanDuel said, Matt Stafford stamps his Hall
(46:56):
of Fame ballot.
Speaker 5 (46:57):
I feel like he's already in.
Speaker 3 (46:59):
But if you need that, Drake may completes the Patriot
rebuilt with a trip to the Super.
Speaker 4 (47:04):
Bowl and winning it, right, that's unbelievable, quick turnaround.
Speaker 3 (47:07):
And then there's Jared Stidham, who has the least amount
of starts for anyone ever to make a start in
a championship.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
Who is the backup to him if something should happen
to him, or maybe it's just not getting the job
done and you want to make a.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
Move, Well they I think my personal favorite thing that
I saw today was the U the pictures that had
Philip Rivers photo shots.
Speaker 2 (47:30):
Sam Mellinger is on their roster, the old Sexterick.
Speaker 3 (47:34):
Wow, he's been their emergency third string guy all year long.
And then they just they just signed somebody and I'm
I'm de Seger probably knows it before the no, no, no,
they just signed somebody today. Oh okay, I like Donardo
or the guy Janucci.
Speaker 5 (47:52):
Thank you?
Speaker 3 (47:52):
Yeah, they just signed Nucci today. So I mean, you're
gonna ride or die with Jared Stidham. You know, John Elway,
he's now walking through that door to save you. I
got a few snaps, send me, Sean Payton. I love
when people theorize that Drew Brees can just throw on
a helmet and go out there and play and be fine.
It's like, why don't they sign Drew Brees because he
hasn't played football in like six years. I mean, that
(48:15):
might be a little bit of an issue out there
for him. But hey, I gotta give Den for some
credit though. I mean I've been one of their biggest
detractors all season long. I keep waiting for the bottom
to fall out. Kind Of felt the same way with Chicago,
but they found a way and they've got the AFC
Championship game at home and with that defense instead Nick
(48:36):
Benito doing what he's doing, and I know Sirtan got
a little bit deemed up on what was that Saturday night,
But I mean that's a team that's won eight of
their nine home games this year, that plays is rocking,
Marvin Mims is making plays left and right.
Speaker 5 (48:48):
I don't know, I feel like they still got a chance.
Speaker 4 (48:51):
Do you have to put in a whole different game plan, no.
Speaker 5 (48:55):
Game plan? Yeah? Maybe maybe you?
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Or do you just say, look, he's a professional quarterback.
He was our second stringer. Maybe he doesn't do everything
as good as bo Nicks has done, but you know,
the offense stays the same. We're not changing around a
whole offense in three days or whatever it is, or
how many days you have to practice during the week.
You're just gonna have to do the best you can
with the system we've have and or do you say,
(49:19):
we're gonna run the ball ninety percent of the.
Speaker 4 (49:21):
Time, So he didn't have to put it in there.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
That's only gonna last so long until they started stacking
everybody there in the box.
Speaker 5 (49:27):
There.
Speaker 3 (49:27):
Chris Stidham had one of the most impressive quarterback performances
that I've seen in one of his starts. He started
the it was either the final or next to last
game of the season when the Raiders had benched Derek
Carr because they didn't want to They didn't want to risk,
you know, getting him hurt and having him I guess
(49:47):
the term would be guaranteeing his contract. So Josh McDaniels
benched him and then the next thing, you know, it's like, well,
you know what we got to we gotta go with
Jared Stidham and he made the starting to forty nine
ers and he was freaking awesome, dude, he was amazing.
That was back in I want to say this twenty
(50:08):
twenty three maybe, and he came on and he here
were his numbers from that game. He was twenty of
thirty four for two hundred and seventy two yards. He
threw a touchdown and it was sacked five times. Things
in the Raiders offensive line, but they damn near won
the game against a really, really good San Francisco forty
(50:32):
nine er teams. So chalk me up as one of
those guys who believe or not kind of kind of
believes in Jared Stidham. I think he's got a chance
to go out and play really well. Not ideal, like,
don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you want him
over bow Knicks. And how about the picture that made
the rounds that Jared Stidham was at Auburn when bow
Nicks was being recruited. And you want to feel old,
but I mean he's he's shown the ability to get
(50:53):
some things done. So I still think Jared Stenham can
win games for him.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
Those statue just gave me is what he needs to
do that week in and there'll be fans say, twenty
at thirty four two fifty one touchdown, was there an interest?
Speaker 4 (51:06):
I don't think there was in their.
Speaker 5 (51:07):
That was one pick.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
He started two games and was really really good in
both of the games that he started for the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (51:12):
He puts up those numbers and they'll be fine. You know,
he doesn't have to put up three hundred yards. He doesn't.
He doesn't have to go crazy or anything like.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
Though. He's not gonna throw the ball thirty four time.
Least I don't think he's gonna throw the ball thirty
four times.
Speaker 3 (51:25):
So your plan for a Bronco win would be established
the ground game, right well, your quarterbacks best friend, and you're.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
Also gonna get the ball out of his hands. You're
gonna throw those short outs. And then if they start
playing up and they're you know, daring you to throw deep,
you gotta take a couple of chances. You can't just
keep it all, you know, that close. You gotta throw
the ball downfield, and you gotta take take a few
chance to you know, expand that defense a little bit.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Let's hit some of these sweets, shall we, because I'd
be curious to hear from some Bronco fans tonight. I
know we got a great affiliate in Denver.
Speaker 6 (51:58):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (51:58):
The best way to get in touch is that stinking
genius one I'm at playing show. Everyone follow us at
Fox Sports Radio. We got a great crew, we got
a great listener base in Denver. How are you guys
feeling about Stidham stepping up? Stepping up here? Are you
panicking a bit? Or you should? Right because he's your backup?
But he's also a guy that because of the stability
(52:19):
of bo Nicks, you really haven't had to turn to
him in a couple of years, so you really haven't
even even seen him on the field.
Speaker 5 (52:23):
How we feeling Bronco fans?
Speaker 2 (52:25):
Forget the fans for a second, Okay, and forget.
Speaker 5 (52:28):
That after I just spent five minutes talking about on board, I.
Speaker 2 (52:31):
Just wondering what city would you like to see you
get the Super Bowl? I mean, we don't want to
see Boston get anymore. They're they're done though, We're.
Speaker 4 (52:39):
Guys, fine, Yeah, I wouldn't mind Denver. I'm getting their
super Bowl. It has been quite a while. For some reason.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
I'm kind of anti Seattle, and of course, you know,
my my hometown, LA, So I wouldn't mind Los Angeles
getting them and driving everybody crazy when the Dodgers win
and the Rams win and everything's out there in La
that'd be funny.
Speaker 5 (52:59):
I'm kind of rude for Seattle.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
I mean, I don't have a rooting interest at all,
but I mean, if you're listen, Denver is in our travel.
Speaker 5 (53:08):
Here's the problem with the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
Aren't I want a team in the United States to win?
You want to jo that's the jokes you try. What's
the whole take that Seattle's not in the United States
or something?
Speaker 4 (53:19):
I just didn't you know, it's far away.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
But it's far away. It's up that Pacific Northwest. It's
almost like it's in Canada. There's a lot of Sooners
on that Bronco roster though. There's a lot of Sooners man,
Nick Benito, Marvin Mims, de Larry Turner, de Larry Turner yell.
I mean, there's some Sooner dudes on that roster. So
it's so hard man. As a Raiders fan, it's just hard.
(53:42):
If I was.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
If I was rooting for a certain player, there's no
doubt to be Stafford really him the absolutely I.
Speaker 5 (53:52):
Thought you didn't like Stafford? Why are you always trying
to retire him?
Speaker 2 (53:55):
Then no, I just yeah, I wouldn't have been surprised,
But look at the numbers he put up this year
just absolutely phenomenal. But I'm a big fan of his,
so I would have been rooting for him or Josh
Allen to go ahead and win it.
Speaker 3 (54:07):
Let's get a couple of tweets in here. It's thinking
genius Swanam at Plank Show. Everyone go follow us at
Fox Sports Radio. Here we go, JV, Jimmy V. Great question,
great point. Seven years ago we witnessed robbery on national
TV no pass interference in the Rams Saints game. To
right the wrong, the NFL made offensive pass interference pass
(54:29):
interference period a challengeable penalty. That following year, the result
the NFL reversed course, knowing that all penalties are subjectable. Now,
do you feel like there'll be some sort of clarification
in the rule after last night, or do you feel
like there.
Speaker 5 (54:45):
Doesn't need to be No.
Speaker 2 (54:47):
I'll tell you what surprises me, just real quick, Carney, Yeah,
and I think you hit this earlier. I'm surprised at
how quickly they just moved on from it, Like that
was one of those plays where I think you kind
of stopped the game.
Speaker 5 (54:58):
You take your time watch it.
Speaker 3 (55:01):
It just seemed as if it just seemed as if
it's like, oh yeah, interception, We'll be right back after this.
Speaker 5 (55:06):
Say they didn't stop for a review or anything.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
That's the one time you take five minutes to go
ahead and make sure that you got everything right.
Speaker 4 (55:13):
I agree with you one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (55:15):
Notice how we still remember something a bad call from
seven years ago that still resonates with us today. Because
that's what I'm talking about when I say that the
officiating is just absolutely horrendous and it's so bad that
it still resonates with us today from mistakes they've made
seven years ago. We don't have to go back that
far to find horrendous mistake. We still talk about mistakes
(55:39):
they've made the World Series and stuff like that. It's
just it's just atrocious that these guys can't get their
job better. And I know the NFL likes to say
we get like ninety nine percent of the calls, right, Bolona,
you get ninety nine percent of the calls right, you're
more like seventy five percent.
Speaker 3 (55:56):
I think I'm a writer, Rob Jay Right, the Patriots
were allowed to hit Texans receivers early all game. The
NFL is so predictable. What does Robert Kraft have on
Roger Goodell, Paul. I told you we'd have several from
Paul tonight. He's a Bills fan who's going through it
with us. The reason Bill's fan blame Bill's fans blame McDermott, Arnie,
(56:19):
is if you took Josh Allen off this team, they
would be lucky to win five games. If you took
Sean McDermott off this team, would anyone notice.
Speaker 5 (56:29):
That? That's a fair question.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
Yea Wolves Sean McDermott. They were losing Super Bowls way
before Sean mcderbott, that's for sure.
Speaker 5 (56:38):
Yeah, they were leeve.
Speaker 4 (56:39):
He's not walking to do that, Dar, He's still.
Speaker 5 (56:41):
Around, he's still with us. Yeah, mister nobody. Arnie is right.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
Yes, the NFL does have an officiating problem because the
league looks less credible when the Cooks play is called
to catch and an interception and the DeVante Adams catch
and the same situation is called to catch.
Speaker 5 (56:57):
My wife got stripped away.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
Yeah, I wanted to know the actual difference between the two,
and us said there is There isn't right, right, right,
There is no difference, And that's that's why I get mad.
We still talk about Calvin Johnson was a catch or not,
and it's just it's getting out of hand.
Speaker 4 (57:16):
Really, It's just maybe it.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
Just seems like it's more out of hand because we
have so many different angles, so many camrangles, and we
have social media that I can slow it down one
hundred times and it will run on my Twitter feed
two million times before come on the air, so I
can look at it every agle back in the day.
Speaker 4 (57:34):
You can only see it once. If you could see
it once.
Speaker 5 (57:37):
All right, quick break.
Speaker 3 (57:38):
When we come back, Todd Furman joins us to go
through all the numbers and angles from the weekend that
was and will be in the game tomorrow night.
Speaker 5 (57:45):
It's next right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (57:47):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 3 (58:00):
All right, is that time we say hello to the man,
the myth, the legend. Todd Furman is in the house.
What's going on, Todd? How are you?
Speaker 8 (58:07):
I'm doing well today, gentlemen. Hopefully you guys are as well.
Some interesting football games unfolding, and we get one step
closer to handing out that Lombardi Trophy. In just three
short weeks.
Speaker 5 (58:17):
I can't wait, Man, can't wait.
Speaker 3 (58:18):
Hey, give me your perspective before we get into the
games today. On the call last night, the interception the
Bills Broncos game has been the big topic here through
our first hour and a half.
Speaker 5 (58:27):
What'd you take away from it?
Speaker 8 (58:29):
Look, I think it's always bang bang, and un till
the NFL has clearly defined rules in terms of catch,
possessions and all of that, we're always going to be
at the mercy things that happen in a split second.
Do I think that the call on the field should
have stood instead of having expedited a review having it
overturned probably should be the case. We have to trust
our officials. But for anybody who thinks it's part of
(58:51):
something bigger and more nefarious, they're just eluding themselves. And
you know, unfortunately, Bill fans have lived through this level
of heartbreak more than a few times. And just when
you think that they're going to have things clear up
for them and they'll have an opportunity to finally win
that elusive Super Bowl and bring it back to Worchard Park,
something like that happens, and then of course we get
the news that Bo Nicks actually breaks his ankle in
overtime and the Broncos are going to have to forge
(59:13):
ahead with Jared Stitta, who hasn't taken a snap as
an NFL quarterback in meaningful action since twenty twenty three.
Speaker 2 (59:18):
Todd, I don't think there's a conspiracy theory. I just
think that officials are horrible at their job. I just
think they don't do a very good job, and that
the NFL has an officiating problem.
Speaker 4 (59:29):
We still remember all the bad calls. Somebody just tweeted
from the one that.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
Happened seven years ago with the Rams in the Saints
where there was no pass interference call. You remember that,
all kinds of calls that we're going to remember, and
they just do a horrible job in officiating.
Speaker 4 (59:44):
I really believe that.
Speaker 8 (59:46):
I think you know, to a certain extent, you're right.
Until we can make this a perfect science, that we're
always going to have calls that feel like AO against
one team or the wrong way or another. And I'm
not sure what the perfect solution is for it. I mean,
you look at the average age of NFL officials, and
the reality of it is tough for guys like that
to be able to keep up with players that are
(01:00:06):
twenty one and twenty two operating at their feet at
their peak physical primes, running four to four speed. So
you want the eye in the sky. You don't want
to over officiate the games. But at the same time,
there's so much at stake, not just from the fans
but the dollars and cents and everything else that you
want these calls to be right. And I wish there
was a perfect solution, one that we could find collaboratively
(01:00:26):
so nobody had a gripe about how a game transpired
in key junctures of the contest. But unfortunately we're not
there yet, And you hope that the league probably takes
us into consideration and tries to figure out ways to
just get better and better in terms of what they're doing.
My biggest gripe with the NFL is that we don't
have full time officials. I mean, there's no reason that
a billion dollar business shouldn't be able to pay their
(01:00:47):
officials year round, give them proper healthcare benefits, and make
sure we have the brightest and the sharpest out there
officiating the game the same way we do with the players,
and make it ultimately a meritocracy.
Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
Can not agree more. You could not agree more. You
can just have a full time officiating job. And I
know the whole idea as well. You know, these guys
have very lucrative jobs, some of them do. Okay, great,
if it matters Todd, Let's make this a fairly lucrative position, right,
I mean, let's make this where it's not a side job.
Let's make it your number one responsibility. And I've never
(01:01:22):
heard a good explanation as to why you wouldn't do that.
Speaker 8 (01:01:25):
And I'm right there with you. I haven't heard one either.
I mean, this is a billion dollar business right now.
We see what these NFL franchise valuations are, and look,
the thirty two owners across the league don't get rich
because they are squandering money on what they feel aren't
exactly the right investments. But at the same time, there's
absolutely no reason and somebody can pitch me on why
(01:01:45):
officials shouldn't be full time by all means. I'm more
than open to listening to the series and the strategies
out there, but I think you can make these lucrative positions.
You can make sure that you have the best officiating
crews that are out there, and there's no reason in
this day and age with a TV content extra what
they are and what's at stake that these guys can't
be doing a year round. You can put them through
fitness tests, you can hold them accountable from visual acuity
(01:02:07):
to a variety of other things, and constantly making sure
that we have a revolving door of some of the
best officials out there that are officiating on the biggest stages.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
All right, Todd, The Patriots opened up as a four
point favorite and immediately shot up to five and a half.
People all over that couple questions Stidham, is it how
many points is it worth that he's playing? What would
have been the spread if it was bo Nix into
the game, And did you make a bet on this
one already or are you waiting off on this one?
Speaker 8 (01:02:37):
So I don't make the market a seven point downgrade
like it's suggesting right now. Denver projected to be about
a one to one and a half point favorite, all
things being equal, even if you factor in the results
that we saw over the weekend, if it was a
healthy bon Nix. To your point, Arnie, you saw a
lot of prominent books open this number in that four
to four and a half range immediately get bet up.
I think that was people thinking that might be the
(01:02:57):
best number that they could find available New England that
was going to be largely one way traffic, and from
the book's perspective, they're going to need Denver not only
to cover, but in my opinion, to win this football
game outright, to blow up some of the exotics that
we always talk about, moneyline parlay teasers, what have you me? Personally,
I think this number has gone too far. I don't
have anything that I would call a substantial position, but
(01:03:18):
I did take a little bit at the plus six
at the top of the market when it was available. Well,
Sean Payton is a guy and the guy that has
a massive ego, and for better or worse, he's going
to relish this opportunity to go out there with a
backup quarterback and prove that he is the smartest man
in the room and that he can get things done
against this New England team that quite frankly, has been
a lot better defensively through the first two games than
(01:03:40):
anything we've seen on the offensive side. And so if
the Broncos defense is worth assault, and I think it's
an overrated unit and one that hasn't performed with high
standards over the last six to eight weeks. This is
where they have to raise their level of play, force
a shortfield or two. And when you see that Drake
May's pocket presence has been waning a little bit so
far this postseason, Denver has to force a short field
and be able to help their offense out. We've seen
(01:04:01):
Denver do it before with a quarterback that wasn't quite
up to snuff with an elite defensive performance, and maybe
history will be able to repeat itself in this particular
spot with Denver as a five and a half point
home under dogs comes Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 3 (01:04:13):
A year ago, we all loved Washington in their future
and it was so bright, and we see what happened
this year. Could it be different for the Bears? I
mean it depends on stant healthy right, Let's face it.
Jane Daniels got hurt this year. That hurt them. But
is Chicago a little bit better position, maybe even than
Washington was last year to sustain the success and continue
to build.
Speaker 8 (01:04:34):
I do think the Bears are in a good spot.
And the reason I say that is because, in my opinion,
Tayler Williams is just now starting to scratch the surface,
oh of what he can do. Immensely talented. You'd like
to see him be a little more accurate in terms
of taking the layups instead of just coming up with
heroic plays, being more jig judicious when it comes time
to use his legs and kind of evade some of
(01:04:55):
the pressure that's there. But you look at the Bears
from top to bottom, and we can start on the
offensive side where the O line made major strides this
year and it was a top five unit for a
group that was bottom five last year. Added some veterans,
Darnell Wright has clearly turned the corner.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
And while I'm not.
Speaker 8 (01:05:10):
Sure they'll get Ozzie Trapio back on the left side
of the line, I think that's a group in much
better position than we would have anticipated. Skill position wise.
Colston Lovelin is going to be an absolute star and
for fantasy players out there, look, I think he should
be the first Fantasy tight end off the board, even
ahead of Trey McBride, who's going to have some aggression,
but more on that discussion later. You look at the
receiving room, Luther Burden roma Dunes that I don't think
(01:05:31):
DJ Moore will factor into what they want to do
going forward. In the backfield, Kyle Manungai is going to
come on as a true number one the Bears. You
saw glimpses defensively of what this team could be as
well when they were healthy. Kyler Gordon, Jakwan Brisker and
Jalen Johnson a extremely talented trio. They do need to
try and figure out where they can get a defensive
end or defensive tackle. We happen to have one out
(01:05:52):
here in the desert that would be a perfect fit
for what the Bears they're looking to do if they
could make that trade, but if they're able to generate
a little bit of a pass rush. They feel to
me right now like they're on the Detroit Lions trajectory,
where the offense is close the defense is a little
bit further away. What the Bears are going to have
to fight through next year to be able to replicate
this level of success is the regression that's lurking right
(01:06:12):
around the corner. Because you can't find yourself down at
two minute warning and win seventy eight football games in
this league. It's just too difficult. So they better make sure,
they're building themselves a comfortable margin and they're not going
to find them in one score games late. But I
think the Bears are formidable, They're here to stay, and
they don't have the same kind of salary captain Straets
that I think can plague the Commanders going forward. I
don't think it's as simple as waving the magic wand
(01:06:33):
and getting Gaden and Daniels back to believe that the
Commanders will pick up where they left off in his
rookie season, Tod.
Speaker 4 (01:06:38):
Explain to me the line in the Seattle Rams game.
Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
If you get three for home Field, and I usually
give four for Seattle even if you thought they were
dead even teams that should be a four point spread,
Seattle publy a point or two favorite, that line should
be about five or six.
Speaker 4 (01:06:51):
Should it not?
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
Or what?
Speaker 8 (01:06:53):
Well, the baseline right now for home Field has come
down a little bit, aren't from where it used to be.
You're looking at home Field kind of more one one
and a half Seattle is this point of the season
in a conference championship game is going to be one
of the bigger ones that you're going to find in
the NFL. So I have no issues with you saying
that you want to make it three three and a
half points. Keep in mind, though we did see the Rams,
you know, kind of hover right around to pick them
(01:07:14):
when these two teams met on that faithful Thursday night.
The Rams had a sixteen point lead in that game,
and it was a unique circum situation or circumstance of
events that allowed Seattle to ultimately go on and win
that game and secure that number one spot. Now, what
I do think works against the Rams is playing two
very emotional games, having criss crossed the country not once
but twice against a rested Seahawks team who had a
(01:07:37):
glorified dress rehearsal against the San Francisco forty nine ers
who were just ravaged by injuries. So I can understand
why you're making a case, but a little bit of
buyer beware. I think the Rams are slightly more battle tested,
and I don't want to ignore the Sam Darnald oblique
injury that didn't appear to be a big deal against
the Niners because he wasn't asked to go out there
and do a whole heck of a lot. We can
say we want about pain killers and anti inflammatories. The
(01:07:58):
Rams are going to get after him a little bit more,
and I think the rubber match, so to speak, between
these two teams going to be phenomenal, as this will
be I think the eighth time in the last fourteen
years a team from the AFC West will represent the
NFC in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:08:11):
How you field tomorrow night? I think we're going to
get a hell of the game between Miami and Indiana.
What are you thinking?
Speaker 8 (01:08:16):
I agree with you. I agree with you. I think
this number is a little bit overblown, given that Indiana
closed a seven point favorite against Alabama and the Rose Bowl,
and here we are laying seven and a half against
the Miami team that I think is significantly better at
this point in the season than Alabama was in that spot.
Indiana has been phenomenal. It's tough to try and try
and find flaws in their game through what we saw
(01:08:36):
in the quarterfinals or the Semis. But if Miami protects
the football and doesn't now allow Indiana to rack up
thirty five points one hundred and seventy five yards, I
think this is going to be a four quarter fight.
It was only a few weeks ago in the Big
Ten Championship we saw Indiana matchup against the team that
could hold their own on the offensive a defensive line.
They were a three and a half point dog in
that game, but needed a couple of timely stops to
beat the Buckeyes thirteen to ten. I don't think this
(01:08:58):
game will be that low scoring and concerns about the
Miami defensive backfield, knowing that a couple dbs are banged up,
you're gonna have one of your top cover corners or
number two suspended for the first half of what I
think was an erroneous targeting call. But Carson Beck is
a veteran and look, he's had two years since he
graduated from school to just be a pro football player
walking around all the campusis so I fully expect Miami
(01:09:19):
will embrace the atmosphere. They'll play with us against the
world mentality, and treat this as a game that has
been twenty plus years in the making to exact and
measure revenge against a Big ten program on the national
stage in their own building. I think Miami's extremely live
as an underdog, and I think you can make a lot
worse bets than backing the Canes on the money line
at plus two seventy love it.
Speaker 5 (01:09:37):
Love doing that.
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
Thanks Todd.
Speaker 5 (01:09:38):
Have a great week, buddy. We'll talk to you next Sunday.
Speaker 8 (01:09:40):
Always a pleasure, gentlemen. You guys as well.
Speaker 5 (01:09:42):
There he goes. Here come Steve de Seger with everything
that's trending.
Speaker 7 (01:09:45):
What's going on, Steve, I'm glad you guys mentioned that
NFL officials do have other jobs. Maybe other people don't
realize this. This isn't like baseball where they're full time
union and they're humping in some cases the six, seven
days a week. The guy who worked the Bears game tonight,
Sean Hocules from southern California. He's a financial advisor yesterday's
(01:10:06):
Seahawks game. Another Southern California native, John Hussey, runs his
own nonprofit. Yesterday's ref at the Denver playoff game from
southern California. Carl Sheffers is a sales manager. There's one
NFL ref who's from Albuquerque. He is the chief building
officer for that city. You can't build in that town
without going through.
Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
The former players, like and this guy used to play
for the Kansas City Chiefs or something.
Speaker 7 (01:10:32):
I know of the former players. There was a former
player who actually made the Super Bowl in the last
crew in the last year or two, which was a first.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
And there's a lot of guys that played college ball, yes,
refs now, yeah, Lynda Nixon, Clay Martin.
Speaker 5 (01:10:46):
Yeah, they're good guys out there.
Speaker 7 (01:10:48):
But keep in mind that the referees this weekend they're
working with all star crews, so they're likely on the
field with guys they've literally not worked with before the
entire season. And yes, all of those other guys have
other jobs. So like the Bears playoff game tonight, the
back judge is a computer guy. During the week the
(01:11:09):
side judge Stigal said, an line judge and mutual funds. Yeah,
now that sounds like too young to be at NFL.
The LA Rams wound up winners at Chicago in overtime
twenty to seventeen. Kyra and Williams two touchdown runs, and
Cam Curl, LA safety not only had thirteen tackles but
an overtime interception. In fact, when that happened, one of
(01:11:31):
the NFL network guys tweeted said, now that's a curl round.
Defensive back Kobe Durant had two interceptions for LA, but
according to the Next Gen Stats, Cam Curl of the
Rams was targeted only four times all night in coverage,
allowed just two catches, and had two passes defense. His
thirteen tackles were the team high in this one, and
(01:11:53):
he missed just one tackle in what was essentially a
five quarter game. New England at home eliminated Houston twenty
eight to sixteen. Drake May and company are seeing a
bit tougher schedule in the postseason. If you're thinking that,
you are correct. They only faced one top five defense
the entire regular season. That was Miles Garrett and the Browns.
(01:12:14):
What they faced in the playoffs Drake May. Last week
in against the Chargers, which were top five in total defense, well,
it didn't go well. Remember how low scoring that game was.
Last Sunday Nights against the Chargers, Drake May had two turnovers.
He was sacked five times. Today against Houston sacked five times,
three touchdown passes, but three turnovers as well. The Texans
(01:12:36):
were number one in total defense this season. Next up
at Denver, the team that was number two in total
defense this season. No quarterback has ever beaten three top
five defenses in a single postseason. Drake May is going
to have to do that three in a row to
get to the Super Bowl. Now, the Patriots defense was
pretty good itself today. They forced four first half interceptions
(01:12:59):
from c J. Stroud, including a pick six. Tight windows
was the phrase of the day if you're unfamiliar with
that in footballs when the quarterback doesn't have a lot
of space to fit the ball into the receiver. In fact,
it was tight windows on thirty percent of the passes
from c. J. Stroud, which would be the highest rate
by any playoff defense over the last six postseasons. That
(01:13:20):
was what he was facing with the Pats, who win
again at home. Their home playoff record now twenty four
and five, che best all time for any team who's
played at least ten home playoff games. Now the forty
nine ers have more total playoff wins, but that winning
percentage well over eight hundred in home playoff games, incredible
for New England. So if you're gonna say, wait, it matter.
(01:13:42):
But the Patriots didn't play that hardest schedule. Well, we
just mentioned they're beating good defenses now and if you said, well,
now they got to go on the road, they got
to do. The Patriots were undefeated on the road this year.
They were eight to.
Speaker 4 (01:13:55):
Zero on the road.
Speaker 5 (01:13:56):
This season.
Speaker 7 (01:13:57):
The late NBA game went to the Lakers over Toronto
one ten to ninety three. Luka Doncic did play. He
had been questionable after sitting out Saturday night with groin injury.
Twenty five points for him. College hoops number seven Houston
ripped Arizona State one O three, seventy three NHL wins
for Tampa Bay, Edmonton, and Detroit in overtime beat Ottawa.
Speaker 5 (01:14:17):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (01:14:17):
College Football's National title game is Monday night, Indiana at Miami.
The NBA All Star Game starters will be announced on Monday,
a holiday, and baseball news is brave short stuff. Hassan
Kim will miss four to five months after finger surgery.
Former White Sox knuckleballer Wilbur Wood has passed away. This
guy had over six hundred and fifty games on the
(01:14:38):
mound in his long career, about half of them starts.
Career era was three point twenty four. He was in
his eighties. Baseball's Hall of Fame announcement comes Tuesday. On
the ballot Carlos Beltro and Andrew Jones and others already.
Former second baseman Jeff Kent was elected to the Hall
by a committee. He got fourteen of those sixteen votes,
needing twelve to get in back to you.
Speaker 5 (01:14:59):
Hey, thanks a lot, Steve.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
All Right, we got hit a break, running a little
bit behind, but that's what happens when you get going
with Arnie's hot takes.
Speaker 5 (01:15:06):
When we come back to the segment, more numbers too.
Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
And I saw this Josh Allen Sinners, not the Josh
Allen football player, but Josh Allen in Indy. Did you
see that already that eighty eight percent of the bets
in the Patriots Broncos game are on the Patriots for
the number.
Speaker 4 (01:15:26):
Yeah, it doesn't surprise me at.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Seventy percent on the money line a little bit more balanced,
but ninety percent of the bets in the NFC is
on Seattle minus two and a half when you look
at the spread bats, that kind of surprised me a bit.
But you can you can get rich if you were
if you want to take Denver on the money line
and they win that game.
Speaker 5 (01:15:45):
Oh, you've got great numbers right now.
Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
We'll talk about more in depth as the night rolls
on with Ardy and Plank on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio, all.
Speaker 3 (01:15:56):
Right, we're hustling on a Sunday night into a Monday morning.
Here's Steve Desager with the segment, what's going on, Steve,
the matchup we've got for the NFC title game next Sunday.
And again that's the later game six thirty pm Eastern
Fox TV Rams at top seeded Seattle.
Speaker 5 (01:16:12):
It's also the Seahawks.
Speaker 7 (01:16:14):
Number one in the league in scoring defense against the Rams,
who were the top scoring offense. First time in over
a decade we've had such a meeting in a conference
title game since the Seahawks legion of Boom defense beat
Aaron Rodgers in the Great Packers Offense twenty fourteen seasons.
So that's the matchup next Sunday, And if the Rams
(01:16:34):
win next week, that'll be for Sean McVay another trip
to the Super Bowl three times by the age of forty.
Speaker 4 (01:16:41):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (01:16:42):
The four starting quarterbacks for the conference title games next weekend.
Let's see, we've got Jared Stidham with one career victory
as a pro only four starts. He never attempted a
pass this entire season for Denver. By the way, Drake
May had only thirty starts as a pro until today.
Sam Darlds had about ninety starts. Matthew Stafford had two
hundred and fifty starts in the NFL going into today,
(01:17:05):
and he wins a close game.
Speaker 5 (01:17:06):
We'll get to that in a moment.
Speaker 7 (01:17:07):
But Sean McVay yet another close win in the postseason.
The record is seven playoff wins by three points or
less by a coach, Bill Belichick and Andy Reid each
with seven in their long careers. This is already number
six for Sean McVay playoff wins by three points or less,
and of course they played the closest of close games
(01:17:28):
at Seattle that last matchup a few weeks ago. Matthew Stafford,
in his Rams playoff career, has a record of seven
and two after tonight's overtime win at Chicago. He has
five game winning drives in the playoffs in his career.
Rams win on a forty two yard field goal by
Harrison Meavis, who also kicked a key thirty two yarder
at the end of the first half. That was a
(01:17:50):
line drive knuckler, but it made it through. But it
didn't give you any confidence about the Rams special teams,
which we have not had covetence in the entire season.
The Rams are fourteen and five right now. Their their
record could be so much better than that.
Speaker 4 (01:18:06):
I think except for special way, it looked like it
was left.
Speaker 7 (01:18:09):
Yeah, it was not one of those beauties and over
round that NFL films would show in low.
Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
Motion Beavis and butt head. That should be the headline.
Speaker 7 (01:18:18):
I do like his college nickname, A bit, a bit
bit thicker kicker. Yeah, he is a big kick. Let's
not forget that. The Bears not only losing overtime because
Caleb Williams had three interceptions, including one in overtime. Remember,
with about three minutes left in regulation, the Bears got
no points on a goal to go situation, the Rams
stopped him for no gain on a third down, and
(01:18:40):
then the incompletion over the middle on fourth down at
the two, and the Rams wind up winning winning in
ot That was key. The Patriots got to win, eliminating
a Houston team that had won ten games in a
row until today. It just didn't look like it. Well,
the defense looked like it. Twenty eight to sixteen New
England the final. The Patriots defense the first half not
(01:19:01):
only four interceptions, including a defensive TD off one of them,
but they forced twenty two different plays of zero yards
or negative yards just in the first half, most for
any team in a first half of a playoff game
in this century. And they were blitzing on over fifty
percent of the dropbacks in the first set. So Shroud
(01:19:22):
who did not have a good first game. Remember that
game at Pittsburgh was a thirty to sixth final last weekend,
but it was only seven to six early in the
fourth quarter. And that was the game where wide receiver
Nico Collins left with a concussion. Christian Kirk stepped up
in that game, but today it was just too much.
Collins was out with the concussion. Tight End Dalton Schultz
(01:19:42):
left early with a calf injury. The Texans last game
got one hundred yards on the ground from Woody Marx
from USC but the team today on the ground twenty
two carries just forty eight yards rushing and Mark specifically
for Houston fourteen carries seventeen yards. One fumble Houston on
red zone tds, which just one for four. Now each
(01:20:04):
team was under two hundred fifty yards of total offense.
And I mentioned the great defense is that New England
and may have had to face, and he's going to
face another one at Denver.
Speaker 5 (01:20:12):
Next week.
Speaker 7 (01:20:13):
But something's got to give because I can't see them
magically winning three of these in a row. Because Drake
May with the two turnovers and sacked five times last week,
still won a low scoring game, three turnovers and sacked
five times. In this home game, the pick six certainly
helped in the first half. But it's New England at
Denver next week for the AFC crown. By the way,
(01:20:34):
this is the twentieth straight NFL season wherehere you have
at least one team with a new head coach makes
the postseason. New England for example, first year with that team,
he might be getting to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
Damn Rabel's a hell of a hell of high tennis
and kicking themselves on that, all right, We got to
get out. De Saiger has gotten more in depth analysis
from the two games today, the Rams beating the Bears
and the Patriots taking out of the Texans, and we've
got an hour to figure out what we learned from
the divisional games next with Arnie and Plank.
Speaker 5 (01:21:03):
Hang with us in the Power Hour on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:21:07):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio, I stinking genius
Power Hour.
Speaker 5 (01:21:12):
Are you ready?
Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
I'm ready? I may go to the Knicks game tomorrow.
What do you think, I say, go for it. That's
your big claim to fame.
Speaker 3 (01:21:19):
You know you're gonna be going to more games now
that you live in Connecticut.
Speaker 4 (01:21:22):
The game at five o'clock Eastern.
Speaker 5 (01:21:25):
Well, I take that back, I take that back. You
did go to a Yukon game.
Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
Yes, so, Arizona Yukon saw that.
Speaker 5 (01:21:32):
Hey you're a wildcat still undefeated.
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
In my arms, I tried to tell you eighteen and oh,
only thirteen more games to go to. We're undefeated, and
you and I are going to do a play by
play game together.
Speaker 5 (01:21:43):
No, you had you said the whole season.
Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
Yeah, well yeah, then they'll have to win six games
in the championship and.
Speaker 5 (01:21:49):
The Big twelve tournament.
Speaker 4 (01:21:50):
Oh, I forgot about that, You're right, I forgot about that.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:21:53):
I mean, you're not going to go undefeated. It's cool
story right now, but it's just it's not going to happen. Which,
by the way, I've been on a pretty hot streak
of saying things aren't going to happen, and they happen.
Speaker 5 (01:22:03):
So, and are you excited that.
Speaker 4 (01:22:06):
Might play by play? I've been practicing.
Speaker 3 (01:22:08):
Well, good luck, are you excited at all about the
championship game tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:22:16):
Not as much as I should be if that's a
good thing, because one you think I would be, because
one Miami's the other dog. There's a good chance they
are not a good chance, but there's a chance they
could actually win outright. I do want Indiana to win,
just don't find the matchup so intriguing. I don't find
Miami likable. I found Indiana likable. So I want to
(01:22:36):
see Indiana win. That they're an eight and a half
point favorite. I think they will win, but I'm curious
to see if Miami really does have enough to go ahead.
One more game left to put up enough points. Memory
this Indiana team can score. Sure, if Miami can keep it,
keep it, uh, it can win the game. But I
think they keep it with it a touchdown.
Speaker 5 (01:22:54):
Can I tell you the only thing that makes Miami
unlikable to me is Michael Irvin?
Speaker 4 (01:23:00):
Yeah? Yeah, did you see the Saturday Night gat Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:23:04):
And I love Michael Irvin like I really do. But
it's just.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
When you're wearing a microphone and you're over there trying
to make it about yourself, just stop.
Speaker 5 (01:23:14):
I mean, it is either root.
Speaker 3 (01:23:16):
The guys on and be the biggest supporter or you know,
go do your show or whatever you're trying to do,
do it somewhere where you're not taking away from the game.
But you know, college football's been crushing it in the ratings.
For everyone that complains about we don't know what the
future of the playoffs are gonna be, ARENI.
Speaker 5 (01:23:31):
It's it's it's doing well in the ratings, so we'll
see well that pans.
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
Out as well as you say it's doing. It still
does have a lot of problems, I hell you have.
For every five people that are excited about it, we'll
read about two or three say, oh, is that championship
game tonight? And you know, no games on a Saturday.
Through the play well through what the semifinals in the finals,
(01:23:56):
and now we're gonna have a championship but a Monday.
And the games are like what like four months apart
or something like that.
Speaker 5 (01:24:02):
Not quite that much, but I give it.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
To It's just crazy. So they do have to do something.
I'm just not sure how they're going to work it out,
you know, kind of make the games at least one
week and uh, and don't do it on a Monday.
I think it kind of loses Monday, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:24:17):
Yeah, so dumb. I've never and they've always done it
that way. And speaking of non NFL playoff conversations, here
real quick before we get back to the championship game matchups,
you got a favorite for your Dolphins? I mean, we've
seen two retreads hired after John Harball basically got fired
by Baltimore. He's a new head coach of the Giants.
(01:24:39):
Yesterday Kevin Stefanski got inked by the Falcons. And I
think this is gonna be a busy week for hirings.
I really do, because the NFL, well, either this week
or next week, right the bye week, because the NFL
doesn't want super Bowl week having anything other than super
Bowl conversation.
Speaker 5 (01:24:57):
So we'll see. But what do you think? What do
you think? You you got a favorite for your Dolphins?
Now that Marball's not to.
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Do well, the one I want, we're not going to get.
He's not going to get a job. I think he's
gonna take the years off. I would like to have Tomlin. Tomlin, yeah,
I think that would certainly bring something to the table.
I would like to go ahead and get him in there.
I don't think he's going to coach this year. So
unfortunately there then they say the defensive coordinator for what
the Packers is down to, he's like the favorite for
(01:25:24):
two positions or three positions. All of a sudden, he's
the hot name out there.
Speaker 5 (01:25:29):
Jeff Hapley, former head coach at Boston College.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
Yeah, you know what I think about this, unless you're
getting a big name Michael Harbaugh or Tomlin. You know
what any think about coordinators, And it's getting to the
point where it's almost kind of.
Speaker 4 (01:25:40):
The same thing for coaches too.
Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
I mean, look, Mike McDaniel gets fired and people are
lined up around the block to go ahead and get him.
I don't understand. So I would like Tom, but I
just don't think it's going to happen.
Speaker 5 (01:25:52):
I don't think it's gonna happen, but I will.
Speaker 3 (01:25:55):
I was a big I want Mike Tomlin guy until
someone asked me a very very good question. Yeah, name
the assistant coach coaches from his tree that have gone
out of half success.
Speaker 4 (01:26:06):
Does that make a difference to me?
Speaker 5 (01:26:08):
It does?
Speaker 4 (01:26:10):
Coaches he doesn't have a great tree.
Speaker 5 (01:26:12):
Rabel.
Speaker 4 (01:26:13):
Yeah, I mean, but there's old Josh McDaniels.
Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
Now the offensive coordinator there that's doing great things for
the Patriots. I mean, I think that they're in the
front office tree. It's not too bad. I mean you
can say that they haven't performed well, but they got jobs.
Find me the Mike Tomlin assistant then went out and
got a job, or the coordinator that became a head coach.
Speaker 2 (01:26:30):
He just doesn't that make Tom Tomlin a better coach
because of that, as his assistants are maybe not good
enough to get head coaching jobs, so we have to
do it all himself.
Speaker 4 (01:26:38):
Man, you can say that bad way of looking at that.
Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
No, No, I mean, listen, I'm open for anything here.
It's just it's the one thing that kind of turned
me off a little bit on that front.
Speaker 5 (01:26:47):
But I'll tell you what. I'll tell you what we're getting.
Speaker 3 (01:26:51):
We're in a cycle of retreads, and I think everyone's
kind of looking for their varabel. I think that's what
they're looking for now, ude, because there's not really a
Ben Johnson out there unless you're gonna hire Davis Webb
at like thirty two to be your head coach. The
Broncos offensive coordinator are I guess he's not truly the OC,
(01:27:12):
But you know, because Sean Payton calls plays. But I
just I feel like you're gonna be I think McDaniel's
gonna get another job, vance Joseph's gonna get another job,
and he got fired at Denver. Is the Broncos DC now,
But I don't know, man, It's just it seems like
there should be and I'm I'm maybe getting a little
cart before the horse here, Arnie. But I wish there
(01:27:33):
these jobs were going to the Chris Shula's of the world,
and that Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator whose name I can't pronounce.
I'd love to see those guys get jobs. I don't
like the retruds.
Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
I you know, I don't care about so much.
Speaker 2 (01:27:45):
You want to see the young people get at the
coordinators get it and get and get promoted. You know,
I'm not sure which ones are gonna be good ones
and which ones are in certain criteria I look for.
And you know, like I said, I like Tomlin, I
like his demeanor. I'm curious to see which way Miami
is gonna go. I really wanted them to get Harbaugh.
When they didn't get him, I was very disappointed in that.
Speaker 5 (01:28:06):
Does it surprise you at all?
Speaker 3 (01:28:07):
Just real quick, because I was a little bit shocked
at Robert Sala's name is being promise. But is that
just a magnification of how people kind of view the
Jets because.
Speaker 5 (01:28:19):
It did not end well for him, and I mean
it was a disaster.
Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
He got back some of his.
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
You know, creed or whatever when he went and did
a good job up in San Francisco, right, So I
think he got a lot of that back, though.
Speaker 5 (01:28:34):
I'm watching him.
Speaker 3 (01:28:35):
By the way, if you want to get triggered as
a Buffalo Bills fan, you watch a couple of those
catches in that Rams Bears game today. All right, let's
shift to a couple of your thoughts here already, because
even though we are winding down the weeks in the
NFL season, we still have our game we like to play,
which is after we go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
Just one more thing I wanted you to comment on
when you were doing the college I guess from now on,
you don't have to go to school to be.
Speaker 4 (01:29:03):
A college football player.
Speaker 2 (01:29:04):
If we find out from Carson Beck, you can graduate
in three years and still go to school out there.
So it's wide open. So who you guys can recruit.
They don't have to go to school anymore.
Speaker 5 (01:29:14):
Yeah, that's kind of been one of the most misreported things. Ever.
Speaker 3 (01:29:17):
He's still going to classes, I mean, but he's done.
I mean didn't he didn't roll in the spring semester
because he's done with college. I mean he got i
think two graduate degrees. So when he's like, I'm going
to squad, he hasn't been an undergrad in two years.
He's been taking grad school. So it was a little
bit I don't know if it was like over the top,
but this idea that kids still put their backpacks around
(01:29:40):
their shoulders and go to class every single day.
Speaker 5 (01:29:42):
Is it's just not reality. It's out there. It's out there.
I mean, my son does it. My son does it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:48):
It was point and there's certain but most of your
classes are online and you barely go to a class
anymore if you don't.
Speaker 2 (01:29:54):
Want to, even so you don't meet at the student
union and meet.
Speaker 4 (01:29:58):
Up with friends and all that the reality anymore. And wait, wait,
you don't play hockey sack on the main quad.
Speaker 3 (01:30:05):
I think you still see that now, but probably not
from Carson because he's like twenty eight years old.
Speaker 5 (01:30:09):
It's time for him to go get a job, all right.
Let me.
Speaker 3 (01:30:12):
Let me get your thoughts all right after the divisional
round of the playoffs, Arnie, I know this. You want
to start somewhere on this. You want to throw a
couple of hot takes out there.
Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
Where's your feelers, I'll give you after the division round
of the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (01:30:24):
I know this.
Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
I don't find the AFC and the NFC Championship intriguing
at all.
Speaker 4 (01:30:29):
I mean, first of.
Speaker 2 (01:30:30):
All, yes, you have a backup quarterback with the Denver Broncos.
Now you have a Patriots team who, my goodness, the
most famous guy on the team as the head coach,
and the other one you got the Rams in Seattle
meeting for the eighth time this year. I just I
just got feeling the love and the you know, the
good you know banter into the AFC and the NFC Championship.
(01:30:53):
I mean, the lines are closed, so they're both expected
to be close games. But I just felt this whole
year was just a bad year, like a C minus
for the whole entire year in the NFL, And I'm
not feeling it for the AFC and NFC Championship games.
Speaker 3 (01:31:07):
Seize to a degree, I understand, I get it. There's
not a splash matchup here. But we're also a year
removed from people being tired of the Chiefs and Patrick
Mahomes and it's like, oh my god, and now all
of a sudden you get two completely different teams and
it's like, wow, this sucks.
Speaker 4 (01:31:25):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:31:25):
It's like and again, I'm not like trying to pick
a fight, but you were, you were amongst the group
of people, well, not necessarily you you're a blue blood believer.
You're you're happy if it's Michigan, Ohio, State, USC, Oklahoma,
all the blue bloods every single year. You're happy with that.
But you'll also fight. It's like, well, everyone's got to
have a seat at the table. Well, when those teams
(01:31:45):
make a run like Cincinnati did a couple of years ago,
and you know, like you've seen it. I guess Indiana
here this year, then you're grinch and moan about well,
I don't know these teams, so I don't care about
college football.
Speaker 5 (01:31:55):
The players are moving around too much.
Speaker 2 (01:31:57):
You have to give me at least a team, like
you have to give me the photoph Eagles say, I
could hate them and and their fans out there. You
gotta gotta give me somebody like that, so I could,
you know, even San Francisco, you know, somebody was like, oh,
you know, they're not gonna do it. Give me somebody
that we could all rally against. It wasn't a lot
of teams like that. I really wish Buffalo would have
(01:32:18):
won base that. I think everybody would have jumped on
their bandwagon.
Speaker 3 (01:32:20):
I think I think Buffalo would have been that great
root for. But then at the same time, can't stand right.
There'd be that faction that would be totally against them.
I'll add something a little bit different here. After the
divisional round of the playoffs. I know this now. My
man only caught six balls today, make it four. I'm
(01:32:41):
sorry he was targeted six times for forty yards, but
he did have a touchdown.
Speaker 5 (01:32:45):
It was a hell of a catch.
Speaker 3 (01:32:46):
Now, we spend so much time talking about quarterbacks, but Arnie,
is it fair to say one of the true cool
stories of these playoffs is a guy like Stefan Diggs.
I know he is very unlikable. I know he is.
He is a that not a lot of people cared
too terribly much for. But here's a dude who's on
his third team in the last three years and had
(01:33:07):
just four hundred and ninety six yards receiving last year,
but in his first season with the New England Patriots,
he finishes with his seventh thousand yard receiving season. He
averaged twelve yards per catch on the season and really
became I mean, I know he had a couple of
illegal issues, but became like a leader for this team.
(01:33:29):
I mean, I I don't know, man. I know we
get caught up only in the quarterbacks, but I kind
of feel like what you're seeing in Stefan Diggs is
a pretty damn good story for a guy that was
supposed to be the savior in Buffalo, right and be
that primetime target. Then it kind of turned after twenty
twenty three, he went to Houston and it was just
it didn't work. I mean, I think he got dinged up, right,
(01:33:52):
he wasn't healthy, and he just didn't mesh. Now, all
of a sudden, he goes to New England and he's
out there making the plays to eliminate the Texans in
the playoffs. I know it might be a little bit
too deep of a cut, but I kind of feel
like the Stefan Diggs story is a hell of a
story this year for New England.
Speaker 4 (01:34:07):
No, you're one hundred percent right.
Speaker 2 (01:34:08):
Think about this though, I mean, other than Rob Gronkowski
dise he's a tight end. Who were the best receivers
that Tom Brady threw too? I don't think it was
as good as stuff on Diggs. I can't really remember
too many great wide receivers that Brady would have on
his team.
Speaker 5 (01:34:22):
You know, well, he.
Speaker 3 (01:34:23):
Had the what they always say is the washed version
of Randy Moss, which ended up being the best version
of him. Yeah, yeah, you know, you had all the
dudes that have gotten into media now right that were
his wide receivers. Hey, Tom Brady, we can make fun
of coaches not getting like good head coaches off their
coaching tree. The Tom Brady receiving tree has set up
(01:34:45):
one hell of a media empire right now.
Speaker 5 (01:34:47):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (01:34:48):
These guys are doing podcasts and commercials everywhere. So I
hear what you're saying. But I think Stefan Diggs is
a hell of a story. And I'll tell you what
I mean. I'm not trying to hog attorney here, Arnie,
but I do think after the divisional round, I do
know this, I do think the Bears are set up
for more sustainable success than maybe any team that got
knocked out this weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:35:07):
Oh. I just love their future. There's no diety too.
Speaker 2 (01:35:11):
But they're not gonna be so lovable next year. People
are gonna be rooting for them. So for Caleb Williams
like they were this year.
Speaker 4 (01:35:18):
You know that, right?
Speaker 3 (01:35:19):
Oh absolutely, dude, they're gonna they're gonna turn on him
like crazy, all right, anything else you want to add,
they're gonna be.
Speaker 2 (01:35:26):
They'll be public enemy number one is what they're gonna be,
other than my Dolphins making the super Bowl next years
that we're not doing that next job.
Speaker 3 (01:35:35):
Now yet, Now, you got you plenty of time to
get to this. Can I can I throw one more
out there? Yeah, go ahead ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:35:41):
I'm a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
Concerned about the long term future of the Niners, and
I get it. Listen, Niner fans. I'm just Fred Warner
was hurt. You guys were deemed up. I'm a big rock,
pretty believer. George Kittle got hurt, so we'll see what
his recovery's gonna be like. But yeah, kind of worried
a little bit, Arnie about the future of the Niners,
and I wish my team was getting knocked out in
(01:36:03):
the divisional round, and a Fox Sports radio host was saying,
Oh my gosh, I'm worried about the future.
Speaker 5 (01:36:08):
I mean, at least I made it that far in
the playoffs. But I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:36:11):
I just something. They had a bad year last year.
You got pretty healthy to a certain degree later in
the year, and then just the injuries caught up with you.
You're gonna lose Robert Sala, You're probably gonna lose some
of your staff again. So Kyle Shanahan's even though you
don't care about coordinators, I don't know. I just as
bullish as I am on the future of the Bears.
(01:36:31):
I'm kind of the opposite and a little bit concerned
about the future of the Niners.
Speaker 2 (01:36:35):
Right. Is there ever a look on McCaffrey's race where
he doesn't look like he's in pain, he doesn't look
like he's been hurt. I mean, from week one to now,
the guy comes into training camp looking like he's going
through paid that guy gets hurt and bag that more
than anybody I know in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:36:52):
It's absolutely crazy all the time. Yeah, all the time.
Speaker 5 (01:36:56):
All right, anything else you want to do to me? Good?
Speaker 4 (01:36:58):
No, we're good. We're good.
Speaker 3 (01:36:59):
That's good break. We'll come back and when we do.
To your reaction to your tweets. It's the best way
to get in touch with the show. And Arnie's picks
are right around the corner on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (01:37:10):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 5 (01:37:23):
All right, Arnie, let's hit some of these tweets.
Speaker 3 (01:37:25):
Shall wait, It's Arnie and Flank here on Fox Sports Radio,
taking it through Sunday nine to a Monday morning Big
Ben Mallor coming up next. NFC Championship game is set
Rams at Seahawks Patriots at Broncos in the AFC. But
of course the big news bo nixa sert did you
even notice anything on that last play? But he thought
(01:37:47):
he was heard it all?
Speaker 4 (01:37:48):
No, none, whatsoever. I had no idea whatsoever.
Speaker 5 (01:37:52):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
Look at this Manuel from Guardina has checked in. Okay,
he writes, ease up on Carson Beck and his eight
years of eligibility. We totally believe he's capable and qualified
to win the Big One, and he's totally on this level. Sincerely,
Thornton Mellon and John Belushi. Oh my gosh, an old
school reference? Come on, Arnie? When someone?
Speaker 5 (01:38:14):
Wait? Was it old School? Wasn't name? Back to School?
Speaker 2 (01:38:16):
Thornton Mellon, Remember who played him? Come on, Roddy danger
from well done, well done, thank you?
Speaker 5 (01:38:25):
Mary Mac. Did you have any idea about the movie
Back to School?
Speaker 4 (01:38:28):
No idea that.
Speaker 5 (01:38:30):
There's no There's no way, Mary, No, there's no way.
Lead a lap. Probably even knows people.
Speaker 4 (01:38:34):
I'm thinking that I'm too young to remember these movies.
Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
Wa.
Speaker 2 (01:38:37):
I would have talked to you tonight. What's up man? Hey, Chris?
Doing good, buddy?
Speaker 5 (01:38:42):
Yeah? So you remember Back to School?
Speaker 7 (01:38:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:38:44):
I mean I wasn't.
Speaker 4 (01:38:45):
I've seen it.
Speaker 6 (01:38:46):
I was.
Speaker 5 (01:38:46):
Do you remember the dive? Yeah, of course, since it's
Arnie's dive yet right there?
Speaker 4 (01:38:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
The Triple Indy that's right, okay, Mike Rights not sure
if this has ever happened. Since the NFL extended their
season recently, they're now bumping up against the Winter Olympics.
Speaker 4 (01:39:04):
Yeah, but funny.
Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
And weird that NBC will be stepping on their own
toes February eighth, when the Super Bowl is on.
Speaker 5 (01:39:11):
But the Olympics are.
Speaker 4 (01:39:12):
Too does the Olympics. The opening ceremony is February eighth, Am,
I right about that?
Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
So you're not really I think, don't hold me to that,
but I think that's what it is. So you're really
just going up against the opening ceremonies. So I wouldn't
feel there's a lot going on.
Speaker 3 (01:39:28):
You know, it's com Friday, February sixth is the opening ceremonies.
Speaker 2 (01:39:32):
Okay, so there are games going on, so there's events
going on.
Speaker 5 (01:39:35):
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
I could not care less about the Winter Olympics now, Oh,
I say, I will say this whenever we get around
to it. I'm gonna act like an expert on things
like Olympic hockey and I'm gonna really care about it
downhill skiing and all those things. But Arnie, I grew
up in the Midwest. Man, I winter Olympic events. If
you I skated or did anything like that. Whenever I
(01:40:01):
was a kid, it was like, dude, what are you doing?
Why are you going to ice skating? I saw the
ice skating trials.
Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
It was out a couple of weeks ago or sure,
and the guy's favorite who they pretty much gave a
pass to the Olympics, because he's just better than everybody else, Right,
I forget the guys, the kid's name. When he started,
he fell down. He just fell right down on the ice.
Happened in the prelums. But he got a pass to
(01:40:30):
the team anyway. But he got up and had a
phenomenal run. He would have finished second even after falling down.
That's how great he is. It's great, Paul.
Speaker 3 (01:40:38):
Right, here's how awful being a Bills fan is. The
game yesterday isn't even in the top five of their
most painful losses ever, might not be in the top ten.
It's just another piece of wood to throw on the fire.
Speaker 2 (01:40:52):
It's true, he's right about that. There's certainly a lot
to think about with those losses. I can't say nothing
about that. That's for well.
Speaker 4 (01:41:00):
You have got the four super Bowl losses.
Speaker 5 (01:41:02):
You got Norwood's missed kick in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:41:07):
You had gosh the fourth downs last year, music City miracle, Music.
Speaker 3 (01:41:12):
City miracles another one. Yeah, it's that's a good point, Paul.
Next week, come up with the top five, because I
think you're right, it's not even in it. And this
was on the road too. Even though you were a
favorite our man, the late night drug tester. The reason
Buffalo and Houston are done guys and done for the
year is all the turnovers by their quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (01:41:34):
It's that simple.
Speaker 4 (01:41:35):
It is true.
Speaker 5 (01:41:35):
That is true protective football.
Speaker 4 (01:41:38):
You know, they have.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
Nobody to blame but yourself, c J. Stroud, every time
he touched the ball. You know, even Drake may fumbled
so much, but the Patriots got back on three.
Speaker 4 (01:41:47):
Of his fumbles or three of their fumbles. They got lucky,
you know.
Speaker 5 (01:41:52):
The real lucky Mustang Mania rights.
Speaker 3 (01:41:57):
They did have a replay that showed the tight end
in the Bears game pushing off on that poor defensive back.
And Caleb Williams even said in his post game comments
that he knew the dB was tiny and the the
Titan could get him off of him. Offensive pass interference
by a mile.
Speaker 2 (01:42:14):
How many calls do you think if I was to say,
let's say the last decade, but our twenty years, twenty
five years, how many off side calls are there? Pass
interference holding? I bet you the least about a cause
have been offensive pass interference.
Speaker 4 (01:42:30):
You think, oh, by far.
Speaker 3 (01:42:32):
M'd be right, might be right? Our man Joe Judges Berner,
whom I like so much he earned to follow from
me this week.
Speaker 5 (01:42:40):
Look at you, he writes, you.
Speaker 3 (01:42:42):
Can't run gab you can't run gambling ads every TV
timeout during a game that a head referee fixed. Carl
Sheffer's has been involved in more controversial calls than any
other referee in the last ten years. Just to sheer coincidence,
his is always at the center of something. The NFL
has zero integrity. Now, Joe Judges Burner, you name names.
Speaker 5 (01:43:05):
I did not.
Speaker 3 (01:43:05):
I just was reading your tweet, but it kind of
hits on what you said Ernie earlier. Arnie, you're not
a real big fan of the way things are being called.
Speaker 2 (01:43:14):
Right now, right right, And you know you do wonder,
oh not. Fans certainly do wonder if there's something higher
or bigger going on. I don't believe that. I just
think they're bad at their job, and that's why you
have so many bad calls out there.
Speaker 5 (01:43:28):
Two more and then we'll get to segerin here for
his final update.
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
By the way, buddy, he did say this a tweet earlier.
You might have missed it, saying the reason we don't
have good referees' is because it's so difficult to become
a referee. You really have to go through what like
ten fifteen years before you can get into the NFL.
And that's just not you know, nobody wants to go
ahead and do something like that.
Speaker 4 (01:43:50):
They just don't want to work that hard.
Speaker 3 (01:43:52):
You don't want to what's the best way to put it,
You don't want to diminish the field of potential officials
by just rushing guys through because they look the part,
or they might be in good shape. But then you
also don't want to drag it out because you're like, well,
he's not experienced enough, right, It's like, well he's got
to work fifty more college games.
Speaker 4 (01:44:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:44:12):
I DoD of feel like if you know, you know,
but you know, they're making a lot of money. NFL
doesn't seem too concerned about it. I think there should
be full time officials. That's always been my big gripe.
All right, John there might be there might be below
zero wind chills outside here in the Land of Cheese,
but I am warm and fuzzy knowing the long national
(01:44:32):
nightmare called the Bears season is finally over. So much
should also remind Ben Johnson Karma is a thickle mistress.
Speaker 2 (01:44:40):
Oh, people are really upset with him with the blank
Green Bay or black the blank the Packers after that.
Speaker 5 (01:44:46):
Yeah, yeah, that was a little too much.
Speaker 4 (01:44:49):
To be honest with you, that was too much.
Speaker 5 (01:44:50):
Yeah, a little bit carried away, But you know, I
like it. I'm not complaining about it. Vincent. Just to
think of the Bears, Oh, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:44:59):
I'm sorry, Sorry, Vincent Arnady just has to get his
takeout before I actually read your tweet.
Speaker 4 (01:45:04):
He's the one that did the handshake with after the win.
I forget with who you know that half ass handshake?
Speaker 2 (01:45:12):
You know what I'm talking about with the Packers coach
mattlin Clair. I, I'm sorry. If he would have done
that with me, there might have been a problem, all right,
if you've disrespected me like that. I couldn't tell you that.
I wouldn't have thrown a punch or two if I
had a chance. If he wasn't running away with me,
I might have to track him down if you pulled
that crap with me.
Speaker 3 (01:45:31):
Vincent, Just think if the Bears take the field goal
instead of going forward on fourth down on the first drive,
then Caleb Williams throw in the fourth quarter would have
been the game winner and it would have gone down
as one of the greatest plays in history. But instead
DJ board quits in overtime and gives the interception to
(01:45:51):
the to the Rams.
Speaker 2 (01:45:53):
I saw t o Terrell Owens tweet out after that
that it wasn't his fault, that was the receiver's fault.
Speaker 4 (01:45:59):
That wasn't the Williams fault. The receiver's faulted. He's like,
what was that guy thinking and what was he doing?
Speaker 3 (01:46:04):
Yeah, that's exactly that's it. And and by the way,
who was who was on the call? I've got all
my games confused?
Speaker 5 (01:46:11):
Who was it? Who was it? No?
Speaker 3 (01:46:15):
No, no, no, no. The broadcaster that was on the call?
Which which which network was that for that game? Was
that Brady on the Bears game?
Speaker 5 (01:46:26):
NBC?
Speaker 3 (01:46:26):
Okay, yeah, yo, So it was collins was Collinsworth was
all over it immediately, Treco and Collinsworth, Yeah, Collinsworth was
whoever was the analyst on that game was all over
it immediately. And it was like, dude, DJ Moore, he's
got to run that route. He gave up on the
route and I didn't. And in fact, I was kind
of surprised because sometimes they're a little bit tougher on Caleb.
Speaker 5 (01:46:46):
But yeah, that that seemed to be on DJ Moore
big time.
Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
How many interceptions you think are actually the quarterback's fault?
You know that doesn't go off for receivers hands or
you know, it doesn't get deflected of somebody that gets
picked off easily, you know, something like that. What the
interceptions or what I would I would guess, I would
guess it's it's a lot higher than fans realized.
Speaker 3 (01:47:09):
And quarterbacks the most part, Yeah, yeah, sorry, The quarterbacks
for the most part aren't going to throw the receivers
under the bus. You know, they're going to try to
defend them, all right, Steve de Sagers here one final time,
got more of your tweets.
Speaker 5 (01:47:20):
Got Arnie's picks coming up here in just a bit.
Speaker 7 (01:47:22):
But Steve, what you got, Well, the best example of
a quarterback not throwing the receiver under the bus Neil
O'Donnell losing the Super Bowl to the Cowboys in the
mid nineties. Larry Brown was Super Bowl MVP because there
were some miscommunication with the receiver and he got the
picks you mentioned. The Olympic opening ceremonies is a Friday,
February sixth, NBC says Mike Tarico is going to quote
(01:47:44):
contribute to the opening ceremony coverage from northern California because
two days later is the Super Bowl at the forty
nine Ers Stadium, and then he's flying to Italy. Four
years ago, of course, the network had both Super Bowl
on This is on purpose, by the way, super Bowl
and Winter Olympics at the same time, and Tariko.
Speaker 5 (01:48:03):
Was in both Beijing and in La when the Rams.
Speaker 4 (01:48:06):
I don't think the hockey is ready yet.
Speaker 7 (01:48:07):
I don't think they have had a test and apparently
the last time they had a test, the pros felt
a little better about it than they did prior. But
of course NHL guys had not played in the last
couple of Olympics, and this is you know, Milan and
well Cortina.
Speaker 5 (01:48:24):
Up in the mountains. But this is not like some
of the.
Speaker 7 (01:48:27):
Traditional European hockey places that would be hosting such a thing.
So you're right it was briefly a concern. I'm not
saying the concern is completely over, but they had had
had a test run on the Olympic ice, so we're
not that far from February and the actual NHL players
playing for their respective countries. We're not that far from
college football's national title game. It's Monday night, Indiana at Miami.
(01:48:51):
Do you remember long long ago the day Ohio State
killed Michigan. Yes, that was just ending the regular season.
We're finally going to end the Sea season tomorrow night.
By the way, that same day, twelfth ranked Miami was
playing at a ranked pit team. Hurricanes were up ten
to seven late first half, beat him thirty eight seven.
But did Miami play the next weekend? No, Sir, Duke
(01:49:13):
won the ACC title in overtime against Virginia. That was
the same night that Indiana won its battle of twelve
and zero teams, beating Ohio State thirteen to ten. And
I have to say this again out loud. Indiana had
lost head to head to Ohio State thirty straight times. Wow,
since a tie in nineteen ninety. The Hoosiers had never
(01:49:34):
been ranked number one in football until here late this season.
And then they wind up beating a top five Oregon
team twice, once at Oregon and then fifty six twenty
two in the semifinal. When the Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza
had five touchdown passes, Hoosiers were up forty two to
seven in the third quarter, of that game. So the
(01:49:55):
season does end tomorrow night. NFL's conference final. Our next Sunday,
New England at Denver next week for the AFC Crown.
New England eliminated Houston today twenty eight sixteen. Drake May
three touchdown passes, three turnovers, sacked five times by the
best defense in the AFC, the Rams. Tonight in overtime
(01:50:15):
one at Chicago with snow on the ground, twenty to
seventeen on a forty two yard field goal. Kyron Williams
of LA two touchdown runs one hundred and seventeen total yards.
Caleb Williams from USC two touchdown passes, three interceptions against.
Speaker 5 (01:50:30):
LA one in the overtime.
Speaker 7 (01:50:32):
Now, he did have five carries forty yards rushing and
that incredible tying touchdown pass on a fourth down late,
but we can't forget that with about three minutes left
in regulation, the Bear's.
Speaker 5 (01:50:43):
Got no points on a goal to go situation.
Speaker 2 (01:50:46):
I cut that defensive back before they even kicked the
extra point.
Speaker 4 (01:50:49):
I go, you're OUDI here, get OUDI here, the.
Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
One that let the touchdown in that got caught for
the touchdown.
Speaker 5 (01:50:55):
Are we talking about the push off again?
Speaker 4 (01:50:58):
Yeah, the one was late in regulation.
Speaker 7 (01:51:00):
Yeah, yeah, we haven't seen it. Sorry, I don't mean
to say it was a pushow. Sorry, I apologize. The
reps are great. Tight End Colston Loveland of the Bears
was targeted ten times in this game, four catches fifty
six yards. Previous game he was targeted fifteen times. He
had been the first rookie tight end since the merger
nineteen seventy to have in three straight games ninety plus yards,
(01:51:21):
receiving fifty six tonight. Apparently at one point he was
evaluated for a concussion. Roma Dunze did play. He'd been
questionable with a foot injury for Chicago. Targeted six times,
two catches, but those turnovers from Williams, and the previous
game he had two touchdowns but two turnovers as well.
I mentioned last hour the turnovers from Drake May the
first two rounds, but they kept advancing. They'll face a
(01:51:43):
normally very good Denver defense next weekend. Interesting matchup. The
All Star Game starters for the NBA will be announced Monday.
Fan voting just ended last Wednesday. Lakers took the late
game over Toronto Tonight. College hoops number seven Houston ripped
Arizona State Women's basketball. Number three UCLA won ninety seven
sixty seven over twelfth rank Maryland and number six LSU
(01:52:06):
won at thirteenth ranked to Oklahoma ninety one seventy two.
Oklahoma State beat Iowa State. NHL wins for Edmonton and
Tampa Bay. Detroit won in overtime against Ottawa. And this
from Baseball Brave. Shortstop Hassan Kim will miss four to
five months after finger surgery. And if you didn't hear
this week, newly retired pitcher Clayton Kershaw will be on
Team USA in March the World Baseball Classic. I guess
(01:52:29):
if they need an out or two out of the pen,
let what he did in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (01:52:33):
But what did he say to Sagar.
Speaker 3 (01:52:34):
He's like, now, you guys know, if I'm out there pitching,
we're in big trouble or something along those lines.
Speaker 5 (01:52:38):
If it comes to that. Yeah, yeah, he had a
smarmy response. But I love that, dude.
Speaker 7 (01:52:42):
Remember the World Baseball Classic just a few years ago
was phenomenal. The fans and the atmosphere and all of that,
and the actual games were superb all the way through
the final when Japan edged the US and Otani came
out of the pen to strike out Mike Trout for
the final out of the championship game. This US roster
for this March. Pirates pitcher Paul Skeens and Tiger's pitcher
(01:53:05):
Trek scoobl are due to be on the team, and
the team captain is Aaron Judge and likely the catchers
on the American roster Will Smith and Cal Rawley from
the Phillies, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper, Alex Bregman now
with the Cubs. Bobby Witt Junior still to be on
the team. The entire roster not finalized, but looking forward
to it in March.
Speaker 3 (01:53:25):
Back to you Did I tell you I got to
talk to and hang out with Bobby Witt Junr. This
is look like best friends. He was at the Ou
Temple game. He's an Oklahoma kid. He was originally committed
here here, here, God's Country, and then I guess he
thought being the number one pick in the draft was
a bigger deal or something.
Speaker 4 (01:53:44):
Royals foolish.
Speaker 3 (01:53:45):
But yeah, I hung out with him for a little
bit at the Ou Temple games. So we're like best friends.
So well, let's get him on the show. This is
what Arnie does. I talked of like five minutes. We're like, buddies,
why don't you Lee, Why don't you get him on
the show called Bobby wit Junior?
Speaker 5 (01:53:59):
Get him on the show. That's what Parney does.
Speaker 3 (01:54:01):
Hey, there is one note since I'm all nerded out
now inching towards draft stuff, but also all over the
coaching search news. Uh, Klay Kubiak, who is a big
candidate everywhere, is also a candidate to potentially be in
OC but Kyle Shanahan said that he would not allow
Kubiak to take that same job with another team because
(01:54:23):
you know, you got all the NFL rules with and
and team rules. Whenever it comes to being able to
make lateral moves and he's trying to block that. We'll
see if that play, how that pans out. But we're uh,
we're watching the coaching search. By the way, did you
ever say who you were rooting for that offense to get?
Speaker 2 (01:54:40):
Because you don't care about any I wanted to, well,
you're not getting Tomlin, so go which other way do
you want to get?
Speaker 4 (01:54:46):
I'd rather get Salo. I like him. Other than that,
it really doesn't make a difference who we.
Speaker 2 (01:54:51):
Get at Robert sal I thought you like said like
sal who's sal sal AANESSI ri I p sal govern Alli,
Like who do you want a right? So Robert Sala
would be a good fit there. I think I've gone
back and forth on the Titans. I kind of think
Salam might be the next guy at Tennessee because he's
the closest thing to Rabel maybe in this coaching cycle.
(01:55:12):
But then, if you're Tennessee, don't you want an offensive
minded coach? Or does that even matter anymore? I do
want one, but I don't think it really matters. I'm
just surprised that there's only how many have been filled?
Two have been filled?
Speaker 5 (01:55:25):
Two? That's it, and that Kins in the in the Giants, right, and.
Speaker 4 (01:55:29):
Then Lafour staying.
Speaker 2 (01:55:31):
But otherwise I'm really surprised it's taking this song in
the process. I thought we'd have at least half the
alf the jobs filled.
Speaker 3 (01:55:38):
Though everyone's waiting. They were waiting on the first few dominoes.
Speaker 4 (01:55:42):
Next week, you gotta do like three interviews.
Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
A preliminary interview, then you got to do a skype
interview or whatever, then.
Speaker 4 (01:55:49):
In person interview, in person interview, right right, all right.
Speaker 5 (01:55:52):
We gotta get out.
Speaker 3 (01:55:53):
But before we do and before Big Ben Mallord takes over,
Arnie's picks are coming up next right here on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:56:00):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (01:56:04):
Awesome stuff. By the way, Thank you, Mary.
Speaker 3 (01:56:06):
I don't know if Arnie said thank you for all
the hard work he did and making sure okay good?
Speaker 4 (01:56:10):
Oh yes, I did.
Speaker 5 (01:56:12):
I want to make sure well.
Speaker 4 (01:56:14):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:56:16):
She basically saved the show tonight. Yeah, great job. Mary.
Speaker 3 (01:56:20):
Lee lap is always crushing it behind the scenes, along
with Steve de Seger and the millions and millions of
editors behind the scenes who put together all the great audio.
And I gotta tell you something, you know, I'm a
little bit partial to the RAMS broadcast.
Speaker 5 (01:56:37):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:56:38):
The play by play voice of the RAMS was JB.
Was a guy that's spent some time in Tulsa. So
here was the call before we get to Arnie's picks
on the Los Angeles RAMS Radio network of the game
winning field goal that sends them back to the NFC
Championship game, courtesy of JB. Long listen to this really
(01:56:59):
good stuff. I mean, unless you're a Bears fan, of course, It's.
Speaker 5 (01:57:02):
Going to be a forty two yard field.
Speaker 9 (01:57:04):
Goal attempt from the right hash for the rookie.
Speaker 5 (01:57:07):
Harrison mebus out of the hold to beat the Evans.
Speaker 9 (01:57:10):
Here it comes to send the Rams to Seattle for the.
Speaker 2 (01:57:14):
NFC Championship game.
Speaker 5 (01:57:17):
It's good for Rams win.
Speaker 9 (01:57:21):
It's twenty to seventeen and over time Soldier Field is silenced.
You could hear a snowflake kiss the crossbar as the
Bears file out and the Rams win.
Speaker 4 (01:57:39):
Its I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:57:40):
I mean, if you want to count fourth downs as turnovers,
basically the Rams forced six turnovers.
Speaker 5 (01:57:47):
Wow, that's just crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:57:49):
Some guy with the high school with does their PA
announcing for the Rams.
Speaker 5 (01:57:51):
He's the public You always got a cool whip.
Speaker 4 (01:57:53):
You gotta have a better story than now. Is that
a better story? Just he just does. He's the PA announced,
So that's all great?
Speaker 5 (01:57:59):
JB.
Speaker 4 (01:58:00):
Sam legana radio number.
Speaker 3 (01:58:02):
All right, take it away, stinking genius. Let's hear your picks,
including you gotta call him. This championship game coming.
Speaker 4 (01:58:07):
Up, play to I am actually changing the score.
Speaker 2 (01:58:11):
I had it thirty four twenty seven in favor of
where's the music?
Speaker 4 (01:58:17):
Put me in the mood? Let's go beat.
Speaker 5 (01:58:19):
You didn't thank Mary, she's up sttitude, she's mad.
Speaker 2 (01:58:22):
Right, Please please Indiana. I had thirty four twenty seven
over Miami. I'm gonna that's a little too high. The
score still gonna have Indiana win, but I'm gonna make
it thirty one twenty four, so that means take well,
I was gonna say that means take Miami.
Speaker 4 (01:58:39):
The line's back down the seven and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
Earlier today it was plus nine for Miami, but it's
gonna be right at the number. I would take Miami
plus the points. Go with the over right, the AFC
and the NFC Championship. I'm gonna go with the Broncos.
Too many points. Give me the five and a half.
By the time the game starts, Chris, I expect that
to be up to six, maybe even six and a half,
(01:59:04):
and I gotta go the over forty and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:59:06):
That's just way too low for this game. And in
the other game.
Speaker 2 (01:59:11):
I'm sticking with my Rams, even though Seattle's probably got
a bargain there on the number. Give me the Rams
plus the two and a half, and I would probably
go under forty seven and a half. I'd never go
under under forty seven and a half in that one.
Remember my Arizona Wildcats now eighteen and oh in basketball.
Speaker 4 (01:59:32):
Bear down.
Speaker 2 (01:59:33):
As I told you, I think I'm the only person
on this planet who thought they would be undefeated. Even
the coach said, well, you know, we know we can't
go undefeated.
Speaker 4 (01:59:43):
I think I'm the only person that knows it. Eighteen
and oh.
Speaker 2 (01:59:46):
Now they're gonna win Wednesday against Cincinnati, and they're gonna
win Saturday against West Virginia to go in even twenty
and zero until they go undefeated. And me and you
get to call a softball game at oklahom So.
Speaker 5 (02:00:00):
I don't really know how that ended up being part
of the bet, but go ahead.
Speaker 4 (02:00:04):
I want to see if you could pull it off.
So there you have my picks.
Speaker 5 (02:00:06):
Do it is?
Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
You police no longer strictly for entertainment purposes only, so
I have no desire to pull it off, and you're
not going to be in the room. I'm happy. And
there's the pitch. It's a strike.
Speaker 5 (02:00:18):
It's great. Do you sound good to me? Thank you
from home. You think it's gonna be a good game tonight, Yes.
Speaker 4 (02:00:27):
I do. I think it'll be with it a touchdown,
Yes I do.
Speaker 3 (02:00:30):
And Indiana caught a couple teams good teams, I mean listen.
They beat ohiose staying the Big Ten Championship game. They
rolled in Alabama, team that I thought was going to
give them more of a game. I thought Indiana. I
thought Alabama might even beat them. But Indiana has been
infinitely better than I ever could have imagined. But I'm
(02:00:50):
starting my draft prep Arnie. A lot of Miami dudes,
a lot of Miami dudes on the NFL draft boards,
if you will, and I just think they're kind of
being slept on a little bit, the being slapt. You're
gonna get a great game tonight, al right, Well enjoy it, Arnie.
You have a great week. I know you have a
very busy one. You gotta decide if you're gonna go
to that Knicks game tomorrow too.
Speaker 4 (02:01:11):
You think I will? I think I will.
Speaker 5 (02:01:12):
There's no way you're going to the Knixt game tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (02:01:15):
Big Ben Malor is coming up next for Mary for
to say you're for a lead of Lapp. That's Alnie
Spanner on Chris Plank. We'll see you back here next
Sunday night. Have a great week. Everyone. This is Fox
Sports Radio.
