Women's Open Championship on NBC. You're seeing what you saw
yesterday in person on TV. What are your feelings about

taking in professional golf, professional women's golf at the highest
level a day later?

It's nothing like being there.

I think I've always watched golf more than in recent
years because of you, Dan, I've watched golf on TV,
and you have really no idea how grand the experiences
until you're there.

And Carrie, you've been to golf courses before, but nothing
to this level of the stature of a major champion.

Yeah, just the.

Mechanism of it all, the mechanition of it all. Right,
it's so much more behind closed doors. Obviously, we know
that it takes a village to produce anything, but something
as grand as the Women's Open Championship. You get to
see the logistics of it. How some of these courses
have still at the test of time throughout years and
years and years of being here and the design of

these things, and how it's still challenges players to this
day no matter how strong they are, how advanced they are,
and the technology they have. So it's a beautiful thing
man to say.

It's interesting when you look at and I said this
to Mansi yesterday, if you want to watch golf, don't
go to a golf tournament because everything's happening on every
hole and you can only be in one place. But
if you do go, it gives you an appreciation of
what Monty is saying when you actually sit home and

And I mentioned Championship Sunday and I said it in

golf in Nelly Korda trying to trying to capture a
US Open title.

is expectations, you know, I mentioned Sasha Zverev Alexander Zeverev

But to be able to get over that hump, to

be able to like the pressure of once Janick Cinner
has dropped out near the number two seed, it's all
on Zavera's shoulders. Nelly Kuorda won the first major of
the year. There's enough pressure in being number one, you
would think it would be a talk about number one
being a lonely place. I'm curious on your thoughts of
what it's like in the professional athlete mode of what
it's like to be at the top of your game

and trying to either accomplish something that you have accomplished before,
which is winning a US Open, or accomplishing something that
you just recently accomplished in winning a major.

What do you when you.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Try to go into the mind of someone like Nelly Corda,
how does that operate?

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, I think when you've already achieved it, like she
just has, she's had some experience with what that feels
like and what that you know, the intake of information,
the environment, the people that are around you, the people
that have built you up to that point you have
even though it's an individual sport, you have people that
are around your team that elevates you.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
And so besides being in your own.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Brain of trying to get something completed, get something achieved,
you have this team of people around you. So it's
still even though you're out there doing it a loan.
When you have that support and you feel that everybody
is together in a group with the team and it's
toward a collective goal, it makes it feel like it's
less lonely, because it is a lonely thing when you're

on the individual sport and not a team sport, and
so all the pressures on you obviously front and center,
but there's so many people behind you that lifts you
up to that point. So I would think that anybody
that finally gets over that hump or is trying to
get to that point. There are support staff around them
is brilliant as well. We saw this yesterday. You talk
about the support staff, but it's just the crowd of people.

They're a local Southern California player, Allison Lee at the
second round lead she keyed off yesterday.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
She had a nice group around there.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
But there's no other group that compares to what's following
Nelly Korda at this point, Manzi, we saw first hand
yesterday when we were walking around, and even today we
saw a group following Alison Lee.

We saw a group following Charlie Hall.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
But there is there are way more people following Nelly
Korda and this final group, and they're following it because
of Nelly Korda. And I can say that with one
hundred percent conviction, because Nelly Korda wasn't in the last
group yesterday and you wouldn't have known they were the
last group by the amount of people that they were
followed that were following them. Outside of Alison Lee having

their small contingent, everyone is following Nelly Korda. Now we
come to this point now and I think when you
take a step back and you think of like what
Rory McElroy has accomplished now, Rory McElroy having the career
Grand Slam finally completed last year, but to have to
go to a place every single year and try to

accomplish that, you could tell that it weight on him.
And when he finally won it last year, it was
this enormous relief, you know, off of his shoulders. And
I think if he doesn't win it last year, I
don't think he wins it this year again. So I
think if if he didn't win last year, he'd be
still searching for that major championship. But I just find
it funny for someone who completed something and has everything

at their fingertips on how they can continue to operate.
And I mean some of these players out here like robots,
you know, but in a way, just like psychologically, to
be able to stay as strong as they do and
not wilt in a moment, it's it's amazing to me.
Like Sasha Zverev had every reason to think, oh my goodness,

everything is here and let the moment get to him,
and he didn't today needed five sets to win, but
he was able to persevere. And it's those sort of
performances that I that I just think are amazing, and
I'm if we didn't have the leaderboard that we did,
I don't think that this would be the topic. Who
would have started the show today if we had players
who are student just still searching for a major. But
you know, Nellie Corters number one, she's won the first

major of the year. She hasn't won a US Open yet,
So there's there's reasons for this as it falls into place.
But I just think that the pressure that some of these,
you know, top players, top top players face.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
In all sports is crazy. But Dan, you gotta you
gotta trust your work. You gotta trust, you gotta trust
the preparation.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
You gotta trust that the things that you have done
to that point are leading you to the culmination of
what this is, right, Because if you think of it
as this the US Women's Open. I need to win
this for me to be whatever somebody thinks of me
outside of who I am, then that's the pressure, right.
But if you trust your work and you trust that
we take in every step that we need to individually

and as a team around me to get to this point,
then at that point you just got to like you said,
it's almost like everyday life, like I just got go
aheads just I'm gonna do this chip because I know
I've done it. I've done a hundred times, gonna chip
it to where I need to need it to be.
It's two more shots. I need one shot here, I
can get a birdie. Like it's almost like it's just
it's just it plays in your head every day and

sure to get it done.

It's it's kind of an afterthought.

I also think because there's this conversation now around Victor
Webbin Yama and where he is in what's happening in
these NBA finals, and who he is as a player
and what we expect of him. But it's completely different
when you come to an individual sport. I think it's
would you say it's different as well as opposed to
say a sport like tennis, which we considerate an individual sport,

but you're competing against others, would you consider yeah, this,
I mean golf stands Golf stands alone.

In the inn the aspect of like there's nobody across
the net that's that's trying to shove the shove the
ball down your throat, right, like.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
It's none of that going on it's it's more of
a brain thing.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
And you talk about like the pressure of like hearing
noise or hearing the voices or hearing like this. This
this puts thirty feet, so I got to be I
got to get it thirty feet. But it may be
a little left to right here or right to left,
like there's still things that you're trying to figure out
in real time, because I mean, it can be a
perfect day one day, it can be windy one day,
it can be rainy one day. So in theory, that

could be your opponent. And so I think just from
a mindset, the mental mindset of that, that could be challenging.

You know, it's funny because we just heard Stephen VJ
talking in the show prior to us, and then VJ
wanting to see you know, Victor wemen Yama step up
even more and a one of those iconic classic games.
But if Victor weman Yama has forty and twenty, let's
just say, it still doesn't guarantee.

or not. But if you're able to perform in golf
where it's just you and there are very few other

find another sport and use bowling as the example to

twenty in Game three tomorrow night and they lose, are
we gonna be harsh on Victor Women Yama Anymore's harsh's
who we were in the first two games? Are we
gonna say you didn't lead your team to victory? Yes,

you think so, I think I don't think that. You
don't think so, No, I think so. Isn't a point
now where yes, you made it to the finals. I
think everybody's a little surprised. But now you're here, and
now they're trying to stack the claim that he's the
best player in the world already right now for the
best player in the world to get swept or not
be competitive in this, in this and its NBA finals

would be a blow to him. And so I think,
if you're that guy, and you're the guy that's supposed
to be the alien, yeah, go out and do it.

I don't think he needs to be forty and twenty.
I don't think that's the barometer. But he needs to
have a really good game. He hasn't had one yet.

See, Like I look at at tennis and I know
we're bouncing around here, but I think it's all connected.

And I just go back to the you know.

To the times of Pete Sampras trying to win the
French Open, yes, and not being able. We knew Pete
Sampras was the best player in the world, yes, but
you go and you play on that surface and he's not.
Now the next week and you start playing on grass,
he's the best player in the world. And the week
you know, before your clay court season, if you will,
part of that, Pete Sampras is the best player in

the world. But for those those two weeks in Paris
not necessarily the case. And I there's like, like to
me wenby having forty and twenty and losing is is
that that would be that that's like them like the
comparison to where yes, Samprus is losing, but he's losing

in a certain sort of way. That isn't we just
know he's the best player. And I'm not saying that
we know Wemby's the best player in the world.

I think we know that Nelly Corter is the best
player in the world when it comes to women's golf.
But I do think that there are exceptions where we're
still understanding that, Okay, this person is next, this person
is the generational talent, even if it's not happy.

So the last couple since the NBA Finals have started,
they've talked about Shaq being swept in his first finals appearance. Right, Yeah,
he's one of the best players ever played. But you
still go back to that by default, like that's what
they bring up on the set all the time. So
you know, like for Wenby to go out and get
forty or whatever. I think we won't remember this ten
years from now.

Yeah, I don't think that. I don't think that.

I think that, Well, that Magic series we think of
Nick Anderson missing, Yeah, sure, right, and once they lost
Game one when he missed four straight free throws. Yeah,
this series was over. I don't even know what checks
numbers were in that series exactly. But I blame the
series on Nick Anderson. I don't blame it on Shacks.

So who would who would you blame it in on
this one right now, just right now, if it if
it haled up in this if they lost the series.

Yeah, I blame Mitch Johnson for the coast some of it. Yeah,

I don't think that they're prepared in late game situations

with you know, with Castle and Victor Weman Yama. But
I also understand that Yama, because of the crown that

been fifty to fifty, but he's going to bear most

Having the opportunity to, you know, to set forth an
opportunity to have a plan when it comes down to
the final seconds. Yeah, they still would rather just get
the defense off base. And I don't know any great
teams in the NBA that would would do that. Like
Golden State is calling a timeout to get the ball
in Steph Curry's hand, and the Rockets or whatever team

Kevin Durantz on, they're calling time out to figure out
a way to get the ball in his hands, right,
and the Spurs are saying, let's just run it up
and hope hopefully they're caught off guard like that.

So just to recap, as I'm trying to bring Carrie
and Mansey into the world of golf. Yesterday they told
us to shut up because we're being too loud, and
then today Carrie's putting his bad Carrie's putting his badge
on social media and we had to then immediately take
it down because that is a no no.

But see that's the thing, like you you bring me
to an event, Dan, you got to teach me to etiquette.

maybe that's a better way to put it, but there
have been critics of Victor women Yama in the series.
Jalen Brunson hasn't been great, Karl Anthony Towns has been. Yes,
But with all of the factors, the big names in
this series, you think that there is one name that
isn't getting the credit they deserve.

Yes, outside of the players who are getting it done
on the court, obviously there's you can have your you
can pick, you can pick quite a few.

In this series. I think Michael Bridges has played well.

I think obviously Kat's been the best player on the floor,
and you know, you had Champagnee game want to play well.
But I want to give credit to the guy that's
orchestrated this whole thing for the Knicks, and that's Mike Brown,
the head coach. I think he's done an excellent job.
And I think, you know, obviously his time in other

winning situations.

I think even you know, as you know he moved on.

To Sacramento after Golden State, but just happened that taste
of Golden State and knowing how to manage rosters and
manage e goals and put people in the right positions,
and you know, you bring in the KD with him
while he's there, and you have to manage all these things,
and he's a big part of that, you know. And
so for him to step into New York and knowing
that it's championship or failure with the same this team

has been to the Eastern Commerce Finals for a while
and they've been in the mix, and they've been competitive
and good. And you come in there and you get
that too, and you bring up the fruition and the
way he's speaking about this team and how it's not
about ego, it's about putting these guys in the best
positions to win and listening to your players. He's been

a breadth of fresh air for me looking at a
head coach and the way that he's talking about this group.

As I was mining out the mashed potato, mashed potatoes
and idiot dining today at the US Women's Open, you
were waxing poetically about what he said about Karl Anthony
Towns Yes in a press conference after their game to win.
Another great win by cat. This is what Mike Brown

really bad and in this time of the year, and
now it's he's the best player on the floor at
this point. But all of that culminated from the adversity
that they faced early on, because when adversity comes, you
actually have to talk about it, and you have to
you know whoever's going through that rough patch together.

If you're able to talk those things out.

Most of the time, you want what's best for the team,
and I think star players want that as well, but
you put them in a category where they can't be
touched or can't be coach the same way.

over Anthony Davis. And I think if you were to

look at their careers, even with the injuries that Davis
has had, I think that you would side with what
Davis has accomplished. But Mike Brown knew that that player
was somewhere in Carl Anthony Towns for whatever reason. It
was there in Minnesota. And then it wasn't whether it's
Jimmy Butler, whether it's whoever, or Anthony Edwards coming in
and being the guy, but you for whatever reasons.

were able to drive or almost drive, and the pros
do it every year on the PGA Tour.

on this level, but on an everyday, normal NBA season
like last year they were a really good team that
made it to the Eastern Conference finals, correct, And how
much did we talk about them? Not a lot, you

know what I mean? So like now they took the
step to the finals. But it seems like everything on
my timeline on Twitter, the people that I talked to
through messaging, whatever it is, it's all about the Knicks.
So it made me think, are these closeted fans coming
out of the woodworks now because they're in the finals
or is it just because the algorithm? We don't see

Nick stuff as often. Right like for me, I beg,
I beg that question. I want to ask that question
to you. Do you feel that well, a lot of
America wants the Knicks to win right now?

You know what I said a couple of weeks ago,
and Carrie springing this out a couple of weeks ago,
I said that I think that the coasts, the East coast,
and maybe because we're in Los Angeles the West coast
are wrapped up into.

The Knicks in this run.

Not that California is going crazy for the next but
it is a more popular story. I felt in the
Midwest and the Upper Midwest not taking Texas out of
at Oklahoma of it because of the thunder and spurs.
But you know, my home state of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio,
I'm thinking maybe not as big of a deal.

I went to a golf trip in Michigan last week.

Speaker 2 (47:51):
I had to tell them that the Western Conference finals
were on that can we turn on the game on
TNT so that would tell you that, you know, And
this is at a golf course where it's ninety dude
sitting around the bar having a good time after a
round of golf and no one was locked in and
paying attention. But I've got a very strong friend group,

and one of my friends of the friend group, the
guy's super smart, and I feel he always is a
great sense of reality and whatever his reality is is
probably what it is around And I texted him, I said,
are you and the Knick Spurs? This guy does not
care about the NBA at all. There's about like when
the Bucks would make a run, of course, but otherwise

if they're not, does not cares more into you know,
college basketball and that sort of thing.

He texted me, I said, are you interested in these finals?

Speaker 2 (48:43):
He says, not enough to watch an entire game, But
this might be the first finals in a very long
time where I don't mind either team. I like Wemby,
and I think the Knicks fans have suffered enough now.
If the next win it, then I want them to
go another half century or they'll be insufferable to the point. Yes,
I feel I was wrong since my buddy's like, you
know what, I'm not sitting down and watching the entire game,

But this storyline seems to be captivating from both sides.

And that's the I agree with that.

I think it is both sides, right, there's this this
air of you know, the Spurs shouldn't be here, but
they're here, So that's kind of that's rootable, Like you
can root for that in theory. I think even people
that don't care about sports or care about that particular team,
a team that overcame something or achieved something early, like

that's an interest.

Right. Then you think about the Knicks, and I think.

Men Mosci talked about this, but this is one of
the most likable teams that I've seen in a long time,
from top to bottom. Like, if you think about that
Nick roster, is there anybody on that team that.

You wouldn't root for?

You or even when they were on different teams, Like
I think Alvarado would be somebody that would stick out,
like he's a little past type of situation, but I'm
rooting for him as well, Like is there anybody you
wouldn't root for in the series?

Question, No, it's so bad that Brianna Muro, who works
for us at Fox Sports Radio, is a Suns fan

enough to be wanted by a team. I know you
had to fight to make this team, but but still
there's there's also this point of it about Wemby, And
I'm curious on your thoughts because we use like the
America team and it's funny because we could get sick
of New York fans very quickly. And I think, to

my buddy's point, if they win it, we're going to
be over it. It's going to be done. We aren't
going to want them to win for another fifty years.
It's already getting to that point. I've said that I
think that the popularity of the fans, and it's not
necessarily a shot against Stiller and Shamalaite, but it's about
that and everything else in the price of the tickets,
where it's overshadowed what the team has accomplished.

You know, now the.

President's in and now there's not going to be you
can't take bags to the game tomorrow year, You're not
going to have your watch parties like you're having. And again,
that's just all about the fans. It's not about what
the Knicks are actually doing on the court. So in
a way, like I feel like their fan base is
kind of overshadowing the actual team. But you're right in
terms of the Knicks being likable. I also wonder two things.

Do you think us not getting like a glimpse of
Victor wembin Yama in college and playing in high school
or being like the phenom that Lebron was, Like I
feel like when Lebron entered the NBA that there was
enough exposure of him that we had seen him Zion
even more so because it was high school then college, we.

Were exposed to him.

Speaker 2 (52:16):
Do you think that there's still a curiosity factor of
Wemby is he Maybe there's a curiosity factor because he's
seven to four in the alien that he is. But
I feel like there's this curiosity factor of people wanting
to watch because we weren't. We weren't watching him in
high school, we weren't watching him play a season in college.

I feel that that's a part of it as well.

Speaker 3 (52:38):
Yes, the unknown, right, that unknown factor where obviously he's
a he's a Frenchman, he's from he's from he's not
even from our our grounds, and so we hadn't we
hadn't had a clear view of him until recently. Even now,
even when he was in the past two years, we
didn't watch him a lot, like.

Speaker 2 (52:57):
We were there in the last year with the Blood
class exactly, he didn't play. So we haven't seen much
of him even on the court, and so there's this
air of like this mysterious nature of who he is. Obviously,
he's super tall and so we see that, But then
he's interesting too. You hear all these stories about him
in New York City playing chess in the park, and

like at games he's not playing games, he's reading books and.

So like it's his his mystique is.

Speaker 3 (53:24):
Already getting to a point of like what is what
is he going to do next? And so we're getting
to see this in real time as it plays out,
and then to make it to this stage and to
see how much he cares about it and it doesn't
feel inauthentic, like it.

Feels like it's real.

So that air of mysterious vibe, that nature of what
he is and what he represents, getting that moniker the
alien it. It even resides past the height in the basketball.

It's because these other things that he does that's not
normal from the normal athlete as well.

We've seen guys actually taller, right, Like we've seen like
George mirasanam a new ball. Yeah like yeah, but like
like we've seen guys who actually are taller than Wemby.

Yes, So it's not that, but it is the things
that that he's doing that we haven't seen before, which
is you know, Lebron twenty five years ago. Have someone
that size doing the things that that he was doing
as well?

is Wemby's seven NBA.

Finals that like Lebron had with the Cavaliers against the.

No, but it's been a crazy week of the NFL
at him, and let's just start from what happened almost
a week ago.

It's the biggest news in them all.

Speaker 2 (58:30):
Miles Garrett's now a Ram Jared versus a member of
the Cleveland Browns with anybody else in on the Miles
Garrett Rams talk, because as the news started to develop
on Monday, it seems that this deal was done for
a while that you know. Now they were announcing it
on June first. What was the total lead up where
it ultimately led to the Rams?

Speaker 13 (58:48):
Yeah, it was interesting. So the deal was actually done
last weekend. Jimmy Haslam, the owner, admitted that in the
team statement that they told Miles that they were going
to trade them.

Speaker 6 (58:58):
But what I find fascinating is, let's back a year ago.

Speaker 13 (59:02):
So the Browns basically told any team in that call,
we're not trading him, don't ask for him, because we're
not going to engage you in talks. And I just
thought it was ridiculous because you never know what a
team is going to say. We're going to offer, you
might as well just listen and then turn it down.
But you know, Andrew Barry Dan, his whole thing was,
I don't want in all my conscience that I traded
a Hall of Fame player.

Speaker 6 (59:22):
Garrett will make the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 13 (59:24):
He's still the best defensive player of the National Football
League and he turns thirty one de summer. It's really incredible.
But they don't have that quarterback now. Part of the
secret sauce of this thing and why they wound up
doing it, And I don't necessarily agree with this, but
I'm just telling the way they were thinking. There are
people around the league think the twenty seven draft will
be significantly better than this draft. We talked about the

(59:46):
lead up guys on your show, how this first round
probably won't be very good and it doesn't look very
good on paper. They haven't played a game yet, but
the talent level wasn't great. That's the point where the
belief is that enough players will come out despite ile money,
and the draft will be better next year. And the
Browns are backing on that. They're banking on the future
after that. But the big thing is they think they

(01:00:07):
can get a quarterback next year because they don't have
one this year though. You know, they think Deshaun Watson
will wind up taking the job, winning the job, and
they'll see what they can get from them. That's another
story for another time. But why did they do it now?
Because they thought that now, if you're ever going to
do it, this is the time to listen. And you know,
the the Rams have called them in the past. This

is not the first time they've done this, but this
time they were ready to load up and they had
to put Verse in it. The deal was not getting done.
Now I will add to this. I told by another
team that Jared Versus worth two first round picks, like
that's that's what he's worth. It's a lot, I know,
but he's that's how good. You're talking about a top

five to top seven pass rusher. And now did the
Rams get enough? Excuse me, did the Browns get enough?
That remains me seen because we're talking about trading to
the Rams here who might win the Super Bowl.

And I think that's the thing.

So right, you're you're you're trading a younger maybe obviously
not that the same exact caliber of a player as
Miles Garrett, but he's a really good player. So from
from the Browns perspective, if they're playing for that next
year to bringing a guy like that that, if he
comes in and becomes productive, is it a value that's
pretty pretty okay by the Cleveland Browns folonase fan base, Adam.

Speaker 13 (01:01:26):
So Kerry as long as verse is big time like
he he he you know he's going to change teams
here now, Yeah, we should let people know that the
Browns have a first time defensive coordinator and Mike Rutenberger
comes over from the Falcons, a very talented young defensive mind.
I'm told, uh huh, but he has like versus new
to this team. He's new to this coaching staff. So

we'll see if you could play at this level. But
versus on this versus been like big time great so far,
Like he's yeah, I mean he is out of Florida State.

By the way, he's the first rounder twenty twenty four.
It's a big year for him.

They can't extend his contract until after the season, and look,
they're getting other compensation. Obviously, on paper they did fairly well.
But my problem is you're making a team that was
already probably the fact was, guys, the odds makers number
one team and now you're making even stronger.

thing I want to add in this supply to this trade.
So the Rams required a big time young ed th
rusher and they got that. That's what put the trade.
The trade would have the trade could have been done
a couple of weeks, so as I understand it, Dan
to finish that part off, but verse was added late
and they got what they wanted.

So then you add this situation here with Philly.

Philly.

My understanding was they asked for first and third, the
Patriots told them to get lost. The Patriots had offered
a two and three.

The Patriots knew there was no.

Speaker 13 (01:03:23):
Way the Eagles were going to do the trade without
adding a one. They did that, and they settled on
a one and a five. So both teams get what
they want. See, there's this belief though, guys, with the Patriots,
whereas the Rams are obviously you're making them stronger.

Speaker 6 (01:03:37):
Now you're making the Eagles weaker.

Speaker 13 (01:03:39):
But the thing is, the Patriots kind of were playing
with house money last season, their schedules much harder. Then
the Eagles would get a twenty twenty eight first rounder.
That was the other part of this that I don't
believe the Patriots would have done it if the Eagles
were insisted on the twenty seven first rounder.

Speaker 6 (01:03:55):
But both teams kind of got what they wanted.

Speaker 13 (01:03:59):
It does make the Eagle's weaker this season, there's no
question about. I still believe they're gonna be the favorite.
In fact, they are by oddsmakers. It's very slim, it's
very slim le Eagles to win the NFCS. But the
Patriots here, guys, they get what they needed, a big
time receiver. And he obviously goes to some coaches that
he already knows, and I know he cannot wait to
play with Drake Maham.

I talked to someone who's alread talked.

To him, so he's excited.

I want to talk about you just said the flid
Eagles are a slight pick to win a division, but
I think the team that's gonna challenge him, there's a couple.
But I think the Cowboys are in that discussion as well,
and we're talking about maybe a Pickins holdout situation possibly
or will we report the camp.

Have you heard anything about George Pickens.

Yeah, the Cowboys, as I understand, are not worried about
him showing up. He kind of knew on the he's
playing on the tag this season. They already said carry
they're not going to extend his contract, So you know what,
you know what, I'm gonna.

Applaud them for doing this.

Yeah, instead of doing the stupid thing that they do
every year they drag it into training camp and it
gets to be a distraction and ugly. They told him
we're not negotiating with you this year, play and then
we'll want to bring you back for future on multi
year deal.

I thought that was actually very smart.

Speaker 13 (01:05:05):
Stephen Jones announced that weeks ago, so I thought that
was very very smart on the Joneses family's part. So
then getting back to carry to your point on this
team could challenge. They're the only NFL team that's bringing
back all eleven starters on offense.

That's hard to do. Yes, that's huge.

Speaker 13 (01:05:22):
Now they've got a first time defense coordinator and Kristin Parker,
who's a vic Fangio prot j They're going to move
to the Fangio defense. They're going to change the front
to a thirty four. Now, the question is do they
have enough help on the back end. They bring a
Caleb Downs who could play Nickel, who plays both probably
safety and nickel. They're still a little week at cornerback.
That's my concern there. They're not great at linebacker. But

the added de Winters in the trade from the Niners.
Overshown is healthy, first time in years. He's not coming
off with surgery. The edge group is still questionable. Philly's
way deeper at edge. They're actually one of the teapesteams,
the deepest teams in the National Football Good edge show.
They're a little bit better. But I love that Dallas
is bringing back guys. Their offensive unit all are back. Now,

they have problems at the tackle spot. That's that's something
to keep an eye on.

they've got a receiver problem. That Darius Slayton, who's you'd

rather be your three than your two. He could still run.
He's been with the Giants now seven years. Calvin Austin
comes over from Pittsburgh. Darnold Mooney was a one year
deal coming from the Falcons. Jus Smith Schuster. You mentioned Beckham,
bax and Barriers will be the punt returner and he
can also do kicks. Two Malachi fields. I know they're

super excited about him their third round pick. So Dan,
for your on your Fantasy show, this guy's a big
time Dynasty League prospect that they really believe it wanted
being a startups at Neighbors in year two, but they
needed more help at receiver because they're not exactly sure
as I understand it, when Neighbors is going to be back.

I get that, and I think that's it's one of

the final round of the US Women's Open. I've been
here all weekend. Monty and I, Monte Bolanos and myself
were here yesterday. Well, Carrie and I taking in the
final round. And as we look at this leader board
right now, you have three players tied for the lead

at seven under and Gabby Lopez in g chung and
Nelly Corda the world number one.

Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
But Corda just put it into the bunker on the
par three fourteenth, so she'll have to get up and
down to stay in the lead.

Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
This is like this is like a roller coaster. What
you end up doing is you have to stay.

Speaker 2 (01:13:59):
You have to hold on for dear life at the end,
and someone like Charlie Hull right now who's at six
under par could post the number where the other players
then we'll have to say, well, I gotta get the
seven under. Hall's playing the par five seventeenth right now.
But this is what major championship golf is all about.

(01:14:19):
It's not easy. There are tests everywhere, and if you
don't hit good shots, you're gonna be penalized, and if
you hit good shots, you're not always.

Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
Going to be rewarded. And that's what makes it so crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
So maybe posting a score early and having everybody else
come in could be the way to go. But right now,
Nelly Corter's gonna have to get up and down if
she's gonna want to stay tied for the league.

Then how much is it psychologically?

It's like it's like psychological wal warfare, right, you know
how important every one of these shots in these locations
to the pan, how big they are?

Yes, but you start to you hit one bat shot,
you hit one bat shot, and that starts to permeate
to the next couple of shots, right, And so how
do you counsel that out?

Like how did the good ones do that? You've played?
You played a game.

Speaker 3 (01:15:01):
Yeah, I'm not gonna say yeah, but even then, like
how do you like psychologically, psychologically move on from that
past shot to the next.

Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
It is.

Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
Very difficult, But I would say that what you do
is you don't try to compound the problem, right, So
if you just hit it into the bunker here and
you're going to drop a shot, you don't try to
make up that shot on the next hole, right, because
that then what happens is then you hit it into
another bunk, or you hit it into the rough, where
you do one of those things. And that's actually what

(01:15:33):
happened with in Chung. She had back to back birdies,
ended up boguing, dropping a shot after that. Then she
compounded it with another bogie, and that's why she's currently
in a tire for the lead. But it was just
forty minutes negotiated a two shot lead, and so it
takes the best of the best to be able to
navigate that. Gabby Lopez just made an eight foot par putt.

(01:15:54):
That putt is going to be ten times more difficult
thirty minutes from now. It is because everything is going
to be different and there's going to be, you know,
fewer opportunities to.

Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
Take advantage of these holes.

So anything that you can do right now will pay
off in spades as we come down the stretch. I
mean we're talking here, there's only three, four or five
holes left in all this. We very well could be

I covered Spurs Cavs. Yeah, you played Thursday night in
San Antonio. You then played Game two in San Antonio
on Sunday night, and then you had to flat to
Cleveland and play Tuesday night.

So you have the two day break in San.

Antonio when the teams didn't travel, and then you had
for forty eight hours like it was really it was
quite the uh you know, quite the ordeal to try
to navigate it. But if you did have a game
every other day, I would like the rhythm of that
it's got a little bit more, all right. Topic number four,
The Stanley Cup Finals should be held before or after
the NBA Finals.

Or do you like them intertwined? Are you on board

I want I want to start out because I mean
you've covered the sport for a while. You were at
the first major of the year for the women in Houston.
How does this set up? How does Riviera? How does
this you know, historic course play towards you know, some
of the other bigger venues that we see in the
women's game.

Speaker 1 (01:23:44):
How how has this week gone and compared to those others.

Speaker 10 (01:23:47):
Well, I think it's a it's a course that a
lot of people, I mean, it's historic. The USGA is
trying to to get these women to build courses on
in these historic venues. There's never been a women's championship here.
And you know that there's so many people tuning in
to watch. If not for the players, they're going to

(01:24:09):
tune in to watch for the course and it's a
great showcase. But the cuckoo, you grass, most of these
girls are saying they've either never played on it or
they haven't played on it very much. So you got
to find that fascinating. So a good test.

Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
Like we've talked about it, So as professional players, whatever
the sport is, obviously it's a little bit harder when
it comes to the individual sport outside of the team sport,
so there's much more I guess on this on you
as the player that come out and get it done.
But talk about some of these top players in their
support staff, because I'm really big on their team around
them and what they bring.

Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
To the table.

Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
Are these guys, are these women, these ones that we're
looking at right now, would you say they have that
part of the game already done?

Speaker 10 (01:24:49):
Absolutely? And it's a great point you bring up. If
you look at world number one Nelly Korda, Yeah, she's
been pretty much with the same team where you're talking
about trainer, physio, caddy, Jason mcdead, everyone that's with her,
her agent, it's like all pretty much the same since
her entire career. And she's you know, she'll be twenty
eight in July, and that's a big thing. Is a
lot out here on tour, same thing with the PJ Tour.

(01:25:11):
Caddies change a lot, et cetera. But she's kept that
same team and it works. And she's, you know, on
the back nine of a major, trying to win her
fourth major, and she'd be the youngest if she does
it since nineteen sixty. You make it right, wow, to
win youngest American to win four majors. So I'd say
that the team is important and it's working for her.

She is by far and away.

Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
Jill Page Lopez by the way, joining Carrey Roads and
myself Dan Buyer here on Fox Sports Sunday Live at

local players been followed. Charlie Hall's got a group, but
nothing like Nellie Corda. Does this sport need her to win.

She's the Tiger Woods of the women's game, right And
I absolutely think they do. If you saw after she
won Chevron, she was on you know, all the sports
shows and radio shows and popular like mainstream people who
may not know a lot about golf, and so I
think that, you know, the tour really needs to you know,

(01:26:28):
embrace and pick up the marketing times square and think
she was on a billboard things of that nature. So
she's a one name star, like right, a Tiger, a Nelly,
a Lebron. You know, she's got the cross sport thing
with Lebron. As we saw, she was wearing Lebron's James
Gifted shoes right in the first round. Didn't work out,

(01:26:48):
so she had to change the mid first round, but
they definitely need it. And Charlie Hull, who's just teed
off on the final hole on eighteen as we're talking,
she's huge as well, just because she's she's global and
she is she's so much fun to watch. She's I
kind of almost want to say, like a bull in
a china shop. And she's so fun to watch because

(01:27:09):
she likes to play fast and she doesn't use a
yardage book. She goes her caddie gives her like the
number and boom, she'll just hit it. And she likes
to play fast and aggressive and that's fun. Right, So
a lot of good storylines here, but yes, and it's it's.

The opposite of some of the issues that we have
in the women's game.

Speaker 4 (01:27:27):
Certain fast slow play, yes yeah, yeah, well it was.

An issue here on Thursday and Friday.

Yes yeah, But you can also say that that slow
play at least the tour has done penalties where twice
this year it has perhaps cost a player a tournament victory.
It's a lot of money, it's points, it's it's so
many things right, And that's happened twice already that two
players have been given a penalty. Happened here at the

JM Eagle in Los Angeles at ed L CAB And
again that could be the difference between you know, holding
trophy and finishing second or third.

So the back nine of this obviously you have those
that first nine where you kind of get the groove
and you you know, some people come out really on fire,
some don't. But pick it up at the back nine
when it's this log jam at the top this way.

How does the pressure sink in for individuals?

Speaker 3 (01:28:18):
And can you see with each individual player how it
affects them or it doesn't affect them along this journey.

I think, I mean some will hold it inward that
kind of pressure, but the ones like let's say, Nelly
Quarter for example, she was talking yesterday about the positive
affirmation she tells herself, and she tells herself not to
as a kids say, crash out right after one mistake
or where because it's a game where they're chasing perfection. Yes,
as Nelly has a part put here. Yeah, and she

(01:28:47):
drains that, but it's it's a you know, we see
this on the back nine at Augusto, we see it
on the back nine anywhere. But you should be under
that pressure on the back nine to a US Women's Open, right,
But I think Corda, Hole Ng Chun. They've all got experienced,
say Young Kim, Ronnie Yin, Maya Stark, Allison Corpu's all

(01:29:11):
these people I just mentioned of all one major. So
they're not buckling. I don't think under the pressure.

Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
Yeah, well it's been great. I think the scores have
been great. We've seen the sixty eight, you know, sixty
seven out there today. But yeah, this last stretch, trust me,
I know it's not easy.

Jill knows as well. I don't know that he's learning
golf learning.

Yeah, after our backs to backs and I'm so grateful
that we got to play Riviera and bel Air, I

But I'll tell you what I experienced playing with being
out there with Carrie Rhoads. He's in pants, he's got
a shirt on, he's got a head on. I'm in
shorts and just as polo, and I'm sweating, you know,

I feel no pressure, no pressure.

So he's got the disposition for golf over here. So

a one shot lead over Charlie Hull and Gabby Lopez,
who are both done and in the clubhouse at seven under.

So now Nelly Korda needs two putts to win her
second straight major, her fourth career major, in her first
ever US Women's Open. And I told you as she's
standing over the ball, which, by the way, there was
a long wait, as say you Kim was hitting her shot.

Speaker 1 (01:55:59):
Now Kim is at six hundred bars.

Speaker 2 (01:56:01):
She would need quarter to bogie, and Kim would have
to birdie to be able to get into a playoff.
But she took an awful long time to play. And
once she hit her shot and landed on the green,

ready to swing like she's ready to go and ready
to play, and she hit it center of the green

where now she's gonna have an uphill putt.

cannot go long in that situation. That's what would bring

athlete in being in these high intense, high intensity situations,

away from a US Women's Open championship. But again she's

you know sometimes when you go out and about, you

I love our neighborhood and I love all of our neighbors.
But one of my neighbors told me something that just
shocked me. He told me that, yeah, he's got a
pool and he's got a hot tub in spawn is
in his backyard, and he says, I love to sit
in the spa. I loved and who doesn't, Right, who
doesn't love to sit in a nice hot tub? And

he's got he's got a daughter who's about twelve years old,
and he goes.

So he goes.

You know, we would get together, you know, family would
get in the poo at eight o'clock and then mom
would take her.

Speaker 1 (01:58:02):
You know, she'd get out at nine o'clock.

Speaker 2 (01:58:04):
After an hour in the spa, and then he would
sit there and relax.

Speaker 1 (01:58:09):
He goes.

Speaker 2 (01:58:10):
We got on the hot tub at eight eight o'clock.
My daughter ended up getting out at nine. He goes,
so I just stayed in. He goes.

Speaker 1 (01:58:17):
Next thing, I know, it's three forty five am.

Speaker 2 (01:58:22):
What next thing, I know, that's seven hours in a
hot tub. That is that's a that's a boil he
simmered for I was like, oh wait, what it was?
It was so foreign to me to understand, and he goes,

(01:58:43):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (01:58:46):
I love it too. But at ninety minutes, I'm like.

Speaker 2 (01:58:50):
My hands are prune, I'm already sweating. It was, it was,
it was crazy. For for what I heard, I could
not believe he spent seven hours, actually almost eight if
they got in at eight and then he was in
there in an hour, then from nine until almost four
o'clock is another seven hours.

Speaker 1 (01:59:11):
I bet the over that was eight hours.

Speaker 2 (01:59:16):
Next thing, you know, next thing, you know, like I've
been on TikTok before and I'm like, oh my goodness,
it's been forty five minutes. What have I done with
my time? What an absolute waste? But not next thing,
I know, it's four am and the sun's coming up.

Speaker 3 (01:59:29):
I'm just thinking about There's a lot of things that
I think about when I think about that.

Speaker 1 (01:59:33):

Obviously, yes, it's almost it's a boil. Did he put
some a few pieces of corn or potatoes in there?

Right? Obviously probably some some.

Alcohol or something had to be in play, right to
be in there that long, right, No, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:59:49):
It seems like an up. You know.

Speaker 2 (01:59:51):
I get work can be stressful, but just sitting in
a pool of hot water with the jets, I mean,
the gas pill must be outrageous.

Speaker 3 (01:59:59):
But also I would think that's nobody doesn't really care
about them. They didn't come check on them or anything.

Speaker 1 (02:00:04):
They're all a bit.

Speaker 2 (02:00:05):
They checked on them when they woke up the next morning.
Oh man, I had to tell that story. As soon
as he told me, I felt bad for him. I go,
because I'm going to say this on the air, and
I won't say what neighbor it is. I won't sell
you who it was. But and I love the guy,
he's awesome. But it's just I'm like, there's no way
I'm sitting in a hot tub for seven plus hours.

And no, there's no way. I don't even think that's
I don't think there's any comeback from that either. I
wouldn't even tell that story. Keep some things to yourself,
right exactly all right? Here we are, he's carry roads.
