But I thought right before the show as Caitlyn went
off and had a career high in points and an
all time game for her in the WNBA, I think
that the whole Caitlyn Clark conversation is getting a lot
like the jail interrogation scene in the movie Menace to Society.

done messed up, right, Like I just feel it's like this,

of fan voting for the All Star Game. She's the
eleventh ranked guard among WNBA players whoever voted. I know
it's not the entire league and all that stuff, but
if fifty players voted and they had her eleventh, that's

the dumbest thing. Ever, however many players voted, that's the
dumbest thing.

How many of those ten guards ranked ahead of her
are capable, just capable of an evening like that.

perceived at a higher level than the players actually think

sense outside of this being some other reason, right, you know,
so like I could get it if the players were
disgruntled with Caitlin Clark being considered the bell of the ball,
the attention getter for THEWNBA because she's stunk, right, because

they just all collectively knew that she's getting all this
attention because I don't know, she's pretty, or because she's popular,
or because she's social media famous, or because of who
her parents are, or because she's related to a famous
person like an actor or something like that. Like, yeah,

then you know, maybe some of the bizarre handling of
her superstardom would make sense. But she's not beloved or
renowned or famous for any of those reasons. She's beloved, renowned,
and famous because she's one of the best female basketball

players we've ever seen walk the planet. She's arguably one
of the best basketball players. I shouldn't say arguably. She's
inarguably one of the best basketball players who's ever played
college basketball for the women's and she's also one of
the best basketball players to ever play in the w NBA.
And she's smashing records along the way while she's getting

brutally fouled, she's getting mishandled and mistreated by her cohorts
in the w NBA. She's getting you know, demonized on
the internet by I mean, quite frankly, dummies who I
are turning this issue into something more than just basketball,

Like this is such an unfortunate circumstance because what she
did historically, and we'll get into that a little bit more,
as you know, we talk about this and we turn
over more pages here.

She's famous because she's talented, and it feels like all
of the players that have come before her. I shouldn't
say all, because that's painting with too broad of a brush,
but many of the players that came before her, and many, many,
many of the current players in the WNBA are extremely
jealous and petty.

And I don't know why the NBA doesn't do this.

The NHL doesn't do this, the NFL doesn't do this,
Major League Baseball doesn't do this.

I have no idea why the WNBA is doing this.

Well, Rich, I'll say, the only difference between the leagues
that you just mentioned in the WNBA, I think it's
obvious what the difference is. And I'm not saying that
it's a gender thing, but maybe it is a little
bit like maybe women are just a little.

More petty in this sense. Than men than male athletes.

I like, that's the only difference between the leagues you
just mentioned and the WNBA is the gender of the players,
because the rest of it it is the same. I
think at this point, guys like, I think this is
what her situation is, Like, I don't think it's gonna change.

In the WNBA are gonna magically wake up one day
and just embrace Caitlan Sunshine Rainbow's Everything's hunky dory. I
think this is her journey, this is her path, is
to be a disruptor, and maybe that's a good thing, like, like,
maybe that's what the WNBA needs in order to break
through to the next level.

I can't answer that question. I don't know if there's
gonna be another player like her that comes around in
another ten years and we're gonna be able to gauge
how the league handles that situation, because how they're handling
this situation is obviously not ideal.

any knocks on her game.

She was dealing with injuries when she made the transition
from college to the WNBA.

She had very little break.

It's it's not a very well timed transition because the
WNBA season starts very shortly after the college season starts,
and then she had the Olympics. She had a lot
of other things going on, obviously, handling all the endorsements,
handling all the fame and the pomp and circumstance that goes.

Port Girl hasn't had a chance to breathe in three years,
and I think maybe this year you're starting to see
a little bit more consistency.

it anymore. But it all aligns with what this path
is for her, which is to be a disruptor and
to upset a lot of people just for existing and

lot of people that are clinging onto that. I put

just put forty five and ten for Caitlin. With more
practice in the offseason, maybe she'll be a top ten
guard next year.

There, And of course there are some comments in a
couple of them sort of like point to well, it's
because she's straight and she's white, and that's not it
at all. Okay, it's not her sexual orientation. Just think
this through. Look at Angel Reese she's straight. Is she
like universally hated throughout the league?

Asia Wilson with the Aces, is she universally hated. No,
she's straight, she dates high profile, she dates Bam out
of bio. So like the straight girls are not automatically
hated around the WNBA. Is it because Caitlin's white, No,
it's not. Look at players from the past where Diana
Tarassi and Sue burd just like universally loathed throughout the WNBA. No,

present day Stewie is not hated on. Sabrina Unescu straight
white not universally hated. So it's not that it's Caitlin
Clark's popularity. That's what it is, and Jared alluded to it.
Maybe it's ratcheted up just a little bit more with
the females over here. All I know is this, there

a deal she is. And a lot of people in
the league don't like that.

case is. I mean, if there are some players and
if there are any listening to our show this morning
who hate Caitlin because she's white, or she's straight, or
or hate her because she's popular, or hate her for
any reason other than a poor personal moment between two players,

you know, competitors per perhaps, I mean, I guess there
were a few players across my playing career who I
really thought at the time, like, man, I just hate
that guy, like to the point where you're like, oh,
I believe I've said it to him in passing that
I hated playing against him, but a super nice guy

when I when when I interacted with him. I don't
know if he's a good guy or bad guy, but
Vontez berfect that, like I mean, legitimately a guy who
would like go out of his way to play dirty.
So if I was playing against him, I was gonna
play dirty. I was gonna throw my body at his
knees and we're gonna see what they look like on
the other side of it.

But like I said, it was maybe less than a
handful of guys where you're like.

something so sick in terms of she committed some sort
of crime, whatever it may be, and you just like ah,
for me, that's unforgivable. But the crazy thing about Caitlyn
Clark and the and the hatred she's receiving, if she

was a criminal, a convicted criminal, she would be liked
more than she is for just being popular or or
or straight or white or whatever. I look again, I
don't know if any of those other factors are playing
into this.

But she didn't just merely score the forty five points
in tennisis in that game, she recorded the first ever
forty point tennis game. That's the WNBA record. It was
also the first forty point performance of her career, So
she reached rarefied air herself and it's the highest scorer

in Fever franchise history. It also wasn't just shooting with
reckless abandon This wasn't the Kobe eighty one points night.

She was efficient.

She was knocking down shots, six of ten from three

the line. Like Caitlin Clark was on five year, this
was it. This was an efficiency night for her. Indiana
trail by eight. Midway through the fourth quarter, Clark scored

weeks ago where she basically ran circles around all the
other ESPN analysts who are trying to break down Kaitlyn Clark.
And she said something Brian that kind of pulls a
thread on what you were mentioning it. Every time that

there's a scout, like if you're preparing for a game,
you have an intense scouting report, right you're going.

Through with the coaches.

Usually it's one of the assistants that does a scouting
report and like, hey, this is what we're gonna do,
this is who we're gonna guard, this is how we're
gonna guard them, blah blah.

Anytime someone plays the fever, the scout is just completely
fixated on Kaitlin Clark, Like it's like we have to
figure out way to shut her down. You know, she
does this and she does that and there's so many
different ways that she can hurt you. Scoring assists threes,
you basically have to guard her, pick her up right
after half court like it's it's they're just you know,

constantly being inundated with how great she is in the
behind the scenes scout, and I'm sure that wrot again
in terms of your analysis with you know, some girl
walks into the room and every other person turns their head.

The other girls are gonna be really.

Jealous, like like that's kind of the vibe because she's
the girl that's walking into the room and every other
girl is getting you know, compared.

So I'm sure that behind the scenes they're just sick

court she is the center of attention and all of
those factors combined, add in some pettiness, add in maybe

and now you have this, Caitlin Clark, I hate you,
Stu and and the WNBA players are eating it for breakfast, lunch, dinner.

It's really a remarkable thing to watch the pettiness kind
of manifest itself in real time, because it kind of
feels like it's gotten worse, right Like, it feels like
since her rookie year, this has maybe not significantly worse,
but it's definitely not trending in a positive direction. It's

either stayed the same or she's gotten more hate and
more anger and more negativity and more pettiness thrown at
her in the last year plus.

I think this is just her journey and her path

I'll say real fast. I think what makes it worse
is that it's obvious the players don't like her. I

beyond competition. When there's a there's a fist of the throat,

stank on competing that it's you just don't care for
this girl. It's fine, but don't tell me that, Oh,

I'm just competing. And the last thing is Caitlin. You
know how many games she's had twenty plus shot attempts
this season? Just one, And it wasn't last night when
she's setting a career high forty five points, she still
was under twenty field goal attempts. She had eighteen field
goal attempts. So for anyone who says she's a volume shooter, wrong,
try again. You've done messed up. You know, we're back

the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us,
and everybody wants to lock in the schedule. It will

influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week,
Christmas Day, et cetera, et cetera. So I need him
to make a decision, is what he says here. The
first thing is it just makes Adam Silver look so small.
Do you think Lebron hears this and it's like, oh,
I didn't know I was holding up the entire league,
Philly it is. Do you really think he's gonna be

rushed to make a decision this big because the league
is like, hey man, we gotta hammer out the schedule
over here, TikTok? You know, can you can you figure

out what you can control and stop talking about Lebron

almost an ineffable argument that he may be the most
impactful play who's ever played in the NBA. Jordan included,
now is he the best look that's debatable. I think

But in terms of the most impactful, he might take
the mantle because it's unbelievable what this guy has done
in the time that he's played in this sport.

Yeah, I don't think this is an unprecedented situation in sports.
I was trying to think about another player who could
literally hold up the schedule for another sport, and the
first name that came to mind was Brady. When he
signed with the Bucks. That was a very strange circumstance.
It was during COVID, like literally like right as COVID started,

and it was months before the schedule was supposed to drop,
like he signed in March, and the schedule drops typically
in May. Now, the NFL might have been making the
schedule then and they might have had to change it
after finding out Brady signed with the Bucks. I don't
know exactly the timeline and what went on behind the scenes,
but I do think it is fair to say that

this is the only sport and perhaps the only player,
where one individual can have this much impact on the schedule.
I just I can't think of another scenario where this
would happen. And what you guys are saying about Silver
and looking weak and needing to clean up his own house,
and you know, he who casts the first you know
he is without first sin cast the first stone silver.

Going out there and saying this when he has some
things in his house that he needs, some sins in
his house that need to be buttoned up, for sure,
is unique. And I think Rich you said at the
quiet part out loud, like he just it might be true,
and it is true, but it doesn't mean you have
to say it to the media. I think media training, media,

you know, the discernment with what you reveal to the media,
I think is a big part of the commissioner's job.
And unfortunately, I think Adam kind of kind of said

So they unveil these rankings throughout the week. We're holding
in on the QBS here because light you know, and
Tanna's were raised. The whole thing. It's like, what what so?

it's very important, Jared. So the way this is constructed,
they make it very specific. They say this was not
a five year projection or a career achievement award, but
meant to answer a simple question, who are the best

players right now? Okay, Like that's how it's set up.
That's important. With that in mind, the list starts off
with Josh Allen, Bill's quarterback number two on the list,
Patrick Mahomes. We'll just round out the top five. Then
it's Stafford third, Burrow fourth, Lamar fifth. We'll stick with
that for right now. Otherwise it's gonna sound like, well,

why wha wha is it hard to keep everything together?
I want to focus in on the top of this list.
Josh Allen won Patrick Mahomes two. Okay, I hate when
we do say things like this because I'm gonna make
Josh Allen sound like he can barely compete complete like
a screen pass.

You know, if your list doesn't start with Patrick Mahomes,
I'm not interested in your list. That's where I'm at
on this, Jared. For a couple of simple reasons. If
you look at what Mahomes has done come playoff time,
when it matters most I don't care what your regular
season numbers are. If you're one of the elite quarterbacks,

you're gonna be putting up some impressive numbers. Whether you
put up Stafford like forty six and eight last year
touchdowns and picks that's insane, or you know it's thirty
three and nine, or there's only so much variation when
it comes to the elite quarterbacks. I care way more
about what you do in the playoffs compared to what

(43:48):
you do in weeks like six through eleven or whatever.
That's where you make your money is the playoffs. Patrick
mahomes playoff record is seventeen and four. That is insane.
When you look around the league in NFL history, it's
off the charts. He's only looking up at Tom Brady.
That's the only quarterback who has more playoff wins. Brady's

playoff record was thirty five and thirteen, which is insanity, insanity,
But Mahomes being seventeen and four, that's more wins than
everyone not named Tom Brady, and the winning percentage is
better than all these big name guys. Montana went sixteen
and seven. Montana with four rings. Jared sixteen and seven,
lesser record than Mahomes.

You go on Peyton.

Manning fourteen and thirteen, Brett fav just a little over
five hundred, Aaron Rodgers eleven and eleven, Drew Brees nine
and nine. Those are all time quarterbacks five hundred in
the playoffs. Mahomes is seventeen and four unreal. Josh Allen
eight and seven in the playoffs. And what we just
saw two interceptions, two fumbles against the Broncos. He was

leaving points on the field, missing all throws, turning the
ball over the fumble before halftime is mind boggling. It's like, what,
he's never been to a Super Bowl and we're gonna
rank him ahead of Mahomes. It's insanity. I think it
makes no sense whatsoever. And it's not speaking down to
Josh Allen. It's just speaking up to Mahomes. He still

is that guy. He's the number one quarterback in the league,
even though regular season wise he hasn't played up to
his standards come playoff time. Who are you betting on?
That's the question. Who are you betting on? I'm betting
on Mahomes way sooner than any of these other guys,
especially Josh Allen. That's where I'm at Jared, no doubt
about it.

I mean, I'd love to disagree with you just to
get you know, some banter going, but there's there's zero
chance I'm not taking Like if it's a draft, and
it's like, you can take any quarterback you want to
start your franchise. You can pick anyone you want that's
obviously playing now, not you know, Brady or guys from

And I want to say that maybe the pettiness, you know,
you know, seep rearing its ugly head like a does

who the best players are, and they get fired if
they're wrong, especially this.

On the scouting side. So I don't I don't know.

I mean, you want to go back and look at
numbers during the regular season, even that is Mahomes. Like
I went back and looked at some of the you know,
from like the start of their careers. You go back
to twenty eighteen, and those are the two quarterbacks that
have the most amount of snaps out of any player
in you know, at any quarterback in the NFL, it's
it's Mahomes and Josh Allen the guys that have been

(46:48):
on the field the most. They both have over forty
seven hundred snaps in that time span that they've been
in the league since twenty eighteen, and Mahomes has a
better adjusted VPA per play, higher success right, higher complete right.

Over perspective or overexpected.

Speaker 6 (47:02):
And oh, by the way, three Super Bowls and three
Super Bowl MVPs, I don't know.

The only argument, The only argument.

That you could make is the injury, and Mahomes is
coming off in ACL there you're projecting things forward, so
you give Josh Allen the edge because he's not coming
off a major, significant knee injury. That is the only
argument that you can make where you would take Josh.

Allen over Mahomes right now.

But I would still argue that Mahomes, who I think overcame,
I forget the injury that he overcame and then played
in the Super Bowl where he was basically on one leg,
still was able to figure out a way to get
his best foot forward literally and figuratively picking and he's
got one of those bodies that's just you know, some

guys just bounce back really strong from injuries.

He's kind of a freak in that sense. So I
don't know what the answer is.

And I would love to see the actual results of
this poll, and this the votes I want to see.
I don't want them to be anonymous, like show show me. Yeah,
Who're putting Josh Allen in front of my Patrick Bolt?

these voters are on drugs. That's that's the first thing

nugget to keep in mind. More voters than usual kept
Mahomes out of their top three.

maybe they're not allowed to watch football.

I would be surprised if he didn't start week one,

scheduling runs, if you're if you're putting him on rollouts
where he's exposed to taking a shot. Like that's where
Andy Reid's so smart, Like, obviously he could game plan
around an injury, But if you didn't have to, and
you could find a way to be two and two
by week four, which I think feasibly with a backup
they could be and give him another month to recover.

I think that would be the smarter choice. You know,
even who knows. Maybe they're three and one, you know
what I mean, And he's knocking off some russ still,
but you know, it's just better than fields.

type of stuff, two time League MVP, I think your
expectations for him and what he should be doing get

of whack. I'll give you a great as look at
Josh Allen. Josh Allen against the Broncos last year. Two interceptions,
two fumbles. If Mahomes has a game like that, he's
scrambled around before halftime, they're not even close to scoring.
He fumbles, just gift wraps the Broncos a field goal. Unacceptable, unacceptable.

Josh Allen does it he jumps to number one on
the quarterback list, it's not the same expectations. He hasn't
even gotten to a Super Bowl, so the expectations for
him are not out of whack yet. So that's the
one thing that Mahomes suffers for from that no other

comes to voting the top ten quarterbacks. I think that

Caleb Williams being tenth on this list, even though the

played a weaker schedule as well concerns me.

can he do it in the regular season, but he

And boy, oh boy, did he handle that run to
the Super Bowl magnificently. Now, it wasn't all him. Obviously,
Seattle had an impressive defense and they did great things

with it, and so it wasn't just an aberration what

happened in Minnesota again, new coach, new system, new offense,
new players. Sam Donald, year one with the Seattle Seahawks
turns them into a Super Bowl winner once again. Sam
Donald should be higher than Cale Williams on those list.

his injury history, he's stayed neck and neck with Alan
in terms of production in that area of the field.
And so from a longevity debate or the potentiality for
falloff late in their careers, who has, you know, the
potential for a steeper decline, it's Alan.

Look. The one thing, the one thing I will say
is the list got this very right.

There's a top tier, and Mahomes and Allen stand alone
in Tier one, like and so it doesn't really suggest that.
All right, it's Allan, and then there's a steep distance,
and then you get to Mahomes on this top ten
lists as pulled from you know, executives and scouts and
people around the league. It really does respect Mahomes. And

then you know, in tier two alone by himself, it's
Matthew Stafford. And then the rest of the seven quarterbacks
in the top ten, you know, get organized beneath those
those three, you know, so we're splitting hairs between Allen
and Mahomes anyways on this list.

Fascinating when you get into the numbers and you start
taking a closer look and squinting at the numbers and
the production, you can make an argument for Allan and

where like it's a tough but fair ruling is the

is a relatively even keeled sports, very prim and proper.
Everyone's following the rules, and Bryson is kind of a
bad boy of golf. Like that's kind of been the
reputation over the last few years. Now he's cleaned up
that reputation significantly. Right, he had the uh, he had
the dust up with Brooksy a few years ago, right,
like like he's he he's had some off you know
course things he went to live. So like I think

there's definitely lee a bit more of a microscope on him.
Then there would be a rory or there would be
a Scheffler would be one of those guys that is
is a little bit more, you know, in the upper
tier of the of the polished golfers on tour.

But it definitely caught a lot of eyeballs, like it
was a very unique ruling.

It's not something you see often, but by the letter
of the law, I think it is fair to say
that they got this one right.

get him, you know a little bit of that feel
to it. And I think the same can be true
where maybe the microscope isn't as sharply focused for Rory
if he's sort of walking around in the tall grass

fast forward to the here and now he just missed
a Birdie putt on five. He's won over for the day.

couple of snowmen. He's getting eights on a couple of
holes back to back. But consider this. He's been on
fire in the Open Championship his last five rounds dating

Chambeau playing in a major, cameras are going to be
on him at all times. He will be scrutinized every
step of the way, whether fairly or unfairly. You know,
heavy is the head that carries the crown, and Bryson G.
Schambeau is one of the most famous golfers on the planet,

and both of that is because of his incredible play
on tour, but also because of the spectacle he's made
of himself off the course. He has created a YouTube
channel that is wildly popular. He has vaulted himself beyond
normal stardom as a golfer to a social media influence

or over the course of his time in the public eye.
So having nearly every single shot you take televised will
make the same movement without anyone seeing it debatable as
to whether a rules official we even care, you know
what I mean? Like, So, if this is a guy
who you know isn't often getting press, If this is

a guy who is you know, barely making the cut
at most tournament events, and it doesn't have a camera
and a crew and a producer and a rules official
following him hole to hole to hole. Does that player
get scrutinized to the level that Bryson d Chambeau does.
Does that player get a two stroke penalty assessed? The

answer is, in my opinion, again subjectively, most likely not.
And so fairness becomes a consideration when you're discussing the
rules being applied here to this particular situation. And from
that standpoint, I think if Bryson D. Schambeau wanted to
make an argument, that could be an argument he could make. Look,

you know, I'm here playing just like every single other
of the you know whatever, it might be seventy players
who made the cut, And I just want the rules
to be applied equitably across the field and not specifically
condemning a player because of his popularity and potential, you know,

wider concern or awareness over what he's doing because of
who he is, not just because he's a player in
this tournament. So, yeah, is there an argument to be
made in defense of Bryson and G.

Schambeau. There's probably more than one.

Is there an argument to be made for the rules
official doing exactly by the letter of the law.

What needs to be done.

Yeah, you know, so this debate does fall into the
world of subjectivity. But as long as your hit rate
in terms of that subjectivity, is leaning toward fairness, then
I think most golfers won't won't give you too much.

But but yeah, when you are a multiple time offender,
you know, the Draymond effect, I think is a great comparison.
I do think you're going to be scrutinized right faster,

the criticism that Bryson is shit Ambo is faced where
he's missed the cut and the three other majors this year,

so entering the Open Championship, he was in danger of
becoming the only multi major winner under the age of
forty to miss the cut in all four majors in
a single season. That was at least on the table.
He's clearly made the cut, he's good to go, not
gonna make history. But the criticism of the Shambo has
gotten personal where it's like, Eh, it's this freaking YouTube guy.

I don't know if he's even serious. If Scotty or
Rory just hit tough times, the analysis would be like,
I hear he's dealing with a little bit of a
shoulder issue right there. I wouldn't pile on the guy
like they would not be crushing those guys the way
they are Deshambo right now, it hasn't reached like Caitlin
Clark status yet. It's still got a long way to go,
