Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio. Ah. Yes, living the
dream once again on a beautiful Sunday, we are a
halfway home, definding out which teams will face off in
the conference championship games. Once again, we are coming alive
from the guy Go Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes

(00:22):
can save you fifteen centem Morny Currentrance. Visit guy Go
dot com for a free ray code. Al Right, before
we get to anything else, I want to go straight
to the audio Colin Coward show yesterday. I excuse me, Friday.
Rich Or M Burger is his guest, and he made

(00:43):
a bold proclamation. You think it's got potential for an upset,
oh man, You know people are probably gonna be upset
with this one. But I think the road ends for
Lamar Jackson here. Yeah. And and the reason why is
because the Tennessee Titans they are just bad dudes. They
want to bring a level of violence to the field

(01:04):
that we really haven't seen since the two thousand Ravens.
They have a nasty defense. They have a defense who's
gonna come up line against you and say, look, we're
just gonna pound you. We're gonna pound you. Now, if
they can make open field tackles against Lamar Jackson, good
on them. I don't think that's gonna be the game
plan though. I think they're going to blitz the dog
out of the Ravens. They're gonna get to the mesh

(01:24):
point in the backfield. The only place Lamar Jackson is
vulnerable is in the backfield, whether that be in the
passing game or the run game. So in the passing
game f obvious reasons, we all see what a pass
rush can do to a young quarterback. But in the
run game, because everything's deception, everything who has the football
get to them and you're gonna find out real quick

(01:45):
because the quarterback doesn't want to get hit, especially when
their hands are in the chest of their running back.
So I think if the Titans come out fast, and
if you win that toss, you take that ball, oh,
you do not defer, You do not defer. You take
that ball, and you sit on the ball. You run
the air out of that ball, and you don't give
it back for seven minutes out of clip. You sort
of devenomize this Raven's offense by getting blitz heavy against them,

(02:08):
and then you stay to Lamar Jackson. Can you beat
us one on one down the field and there's some
good matchups there, you know, Brown downfield. It scares you,
but you have to roll the dice if you're gonna
beat a juggernaut like Baltimore, and I think they can.
All right, here's the thing I take away from this.
First of all, Rich uh and by the way, Rich
said this all week on our show. So it wasn't
us Johnny come Lately prediction. Um. I do know that

(02:31):
they put you up in a nice hotel making the
trip up to do Colin show. But enough enough, okay,
if you're gonna come on with bold predictions and deliver
like that, by the way, destroying Gavin and his parley yesterday,
that teaser yesterday, let's seem like money in the Bank
just disintegrated on you yesterday plus fourteen and a half. Right, No, no,

(02:55):
it was bad. It was bad. So um, but you
know what it's into it. We we're just talking to
Will Blackman. He just walked out and and he brought
up the same thing you brought up, and that was
bully ball that you know. Mike Rabel has come in
and uh, you know, he's pretty tough player in his
own right, But he is coming in with this attitude

(03:17):
of not just being physical, but like, you know, we're
gonna hurt you. I mean, we're we're coming full guns.
And the Ravens, I mean, we got so many layers
to talk about why the Ravens laid an egg and
one of the most shocking upsets. By the way, Vegas
cleaned up. All the money was on the Ravens and

(03:40):
the over. It was an under game, and Vegas says
it's one of the biggest wins they've ever had in
their life. So let's get back to you sitting down
breaking this game down. Rich. What have you seen from
this Titans team? All the attention has sort of been
on Ryan Tannehill, Derrick Henry. We really haven't talked all
that much about the Titans defense. What's happening there? Well,

(04:04):
they are built very similarly to a team I played with,
and that was the two thousand ten Patriots. We just
we had all the horses on defense, We had a
really competent offense, and well, you know, you weren't necessarily
afraid of any one thing we did. Now, the Tennessee
Titans obviously have an absolute monster running back and they're

(04:26):
feeding the beast. But um, while you weren't exactly afraid
of just one thing we did, we were so unbelievably
confident as a team. And that's the feeling in the
sense I get when I turn on any Titans game
I've watched late this season, is they walk on the
field and it automatically sort of feels like whatever end

(04:47):
zone they're standing closest to the field tilts away from it,
like they're playing downhill, like they are just screaming off
the football and playing at a different speed. And and
it's film study. Confidence comes from preparation, and confidence comes
from obviously a great leader that Mike Rabel has become,
taking a nine and seven football team and transforming them,

(05:09):
uh into what we're seeing today in the postseason. And
and that's that's the reason why after especially after that
astounding win that many people are writing off as it's
a weak Patriots team. No, and there's no such thing
as a weak Patriots team. They have Brady, they have Belichick,
they have one of the top defenses in the NFL.
And the Titans win into their house in Foxborough where

(05:32):
it's impossible to win it in the postseason, and they
absolutely romped the New England Patriots. So I looked at
the Ravens with a relatively inexperienced quarterback and a very
talented head coach, a very confident football team, and I
thought about the game plan or the game plans that
have worked against the Ravens, where you get an early lead,

(05:56):
you run the ball, and you get aggressive against them,
play some man coverage. Now they sat in his zone
lader in the game to preserve the weed. I understand that,
but get aggressive and rattle Lamar Jackson and this could
this could be a win. It's not gonna be easy,
but it could be a win. And so that was
my feeling going into it. Well, I tell you what yesterday,
sitting here with t J houshman Zada, who, by the way,

(06:17):
the previous week was five and oh on his picks
against the spread and over under. I mean, so he
came in red hot. So we were building it up.
You know, t J is gonna have his picks. He
took Minnesota plus seven. We'll talk about that tobacle and
he did. I don't know if he was a dents
sold because there's a big number. Nine and a half
is what it was at the time. But he definitely

(06:37):
took the Ravens. But the one thing I there were
two things that I argued against it. One was the
layoff and whether or not because it wasn't just the
layoff itself. It seemed that Lamar Jackson and so many
conversations kept harping on the fact that what happened last
year in the playoff game against the Chargers was not
going to be repeated. And I told you during the week,

(06:59):
is it possible that he might press a little bit?
In other words, he's been getting all these accolades over
the last couple of weeks. Everyone's reading about it that
he is not just the m v P of the league,
but he's this transcendent player that he's changed the whole
dynamic of the lead that you get out there and
you want to prove it. Second pass of the game intercepted,

(07:21):
the fourth and one sneak, the first one gets Stone
and then the touchdown passed to make it fourteen nothing.
And then the other thing I talked to t J
about was Derrick Henry. I said, this guy ran over
a New England defense that early in the year was
being touted as historic, and he said, there's no way

(07:41):
we're going to see another thirty carry a hundred and
eighty yard game. Well, he actually had more yards against
the Ravens, by the way, pass Derrick Henry is the
first player in the history of the NFL to have
three consecutive one hundred eighty yard plus games because he

(08:02):
did in the last game the yards in the last
game they had to win to get into the playoffs.
And now he's done it and back you know, before
before I I react to you know, some of some
of you siding with my my prediction, and and what
maybe t J saw that a lot of people saw
in this Ravens team. I mean, just think about that too.
Think about where we're at with football in general, spread offenses,

(08:26):
wide open offenses, where we're seeing real creativity, and I'm
I'm a champion of that level of creativity using dynamic,
dual threat quarterbacks in a way we really haven't seen
at the NFL level. And meanwhile, the Tennessee Titans, who
really are just a rough and ready squad on offense,
a quarterback who largely has played good enough and in

(08:49):
some moments better than we expected throughout the latter half
of the season. After the change of hands Mariota to Tannehill.
Uh and they that bullyball mental, that idea that you
could give that you can hand the ball to an
absolute bulldozer out of the backfield thirty times a game
and still win in this league current day. What what?

(09:10):
What a beautiful pushback on a pendulum that has swung
wildly in the direction of everything being about spread and
speed and dual threat. We're back to you know, Seattle
legion of boom days with Marshawn Lynch toting the rock.
We're back to the two thousand Ravens where you know,

(09:31):
we're back to the two thousand twelve Ravens, where it's
defense first, a strong running game, a competent, experienced quarterback
who's not gonna get you in trouble. He's gonna play
mistake free football and get you the W. And at
the end of the day, it doesn't matter, pretty or not,
a W is all you want, especially in the tournament.

(09:51):
By the way, Lamar Jackson set two records yesterday. He
became the first player ever to at least three hundred
yards passing and a hundred yards rushing in a playoff game.
It never happened before, but even more crazy hundred of
years of the NFL, he is the first player ever

(10:12):
in any game to have at least fifty passing attempts
and twenty rushing attempts in the same game. It has
never happened in one years of the NFL until yesterday.
And I am maybe the biggest fan of Lamar Jackson,
as impressed as I've been by the Titans and the

(10:33):
fact that, you know, I thought they could win this game.
I Lamar Jackson to me is so confoundingly smooth when
he's a ball carrier. There was one play where he
rattled off forty yard run and stepped out of bounds
and we've this way through traffic. He made five different
Titans defenders miss, two at the line of scrimmage, one

(10:55):
later down field on a jump cut where he like
kind of it almost looked like he went behind the
back like he was in the NBA at mid court,
and you know what, defenders sort of got in his face.
He's like, there we go, slip that one, and then
made two guys miss at the sideline where obviously he's
trying to preserve the clock, so they're trying to brack
it him in and tackle him in bounds. He is elusive,

(11:18):
he is evasive, he is famil he is I mean,
it's entertaining on every single play that the Ravens offense
has the football because I'm waiting to see what it's
gonna do. And so he's got a bright future ahead
of him. I have no question he will win in
the postseason and a bunch throughout his career. But but
but it just wasn't his night last night. Then yes,

(11:39):
do the Ravens ask Lamar Jackson to do too much? No? No,
Because when you have a special talent like he is,
and as confident as he's become in only his second
year and not only his first year starting full time, Uh,
he can handle it. He can absolutely handle it. And
and let me also say this is, you know, what

(12:01):
else are you gonna do with that Ravens offense other
than highlight the most precious talent that you have. I
I don't think. I don't think necessarily he's casked with
too much. I I frankly feel like, I mean, let's
keep let's keep digging, Let's see what else you could
have them to do. Frankly, I like the Ravens came

(12:21):
in flat. They got kicked in the teeth and the
Titans did not let up. I mean that that's what
it was. I mean, the Ravens come in all this
I twelve straight wins, overwhelming favors to get to the
Super Bowl. They were ready, Titans are ready for ravel
Head his team ready, and they kicked him right in
the face. And they never let up. And we mentioned this, uh,
you know last week when we're talking about it. There

(12:43):
is something to be said about postseason teams who are
rolling from one game to the next. You finished your
regular season week seventeen, you're into the wild card, you're
into the divisional round, and you just keep the inertia.
Some teams they get a nert in the wrong way
where they hit that bye week and it takes quarter
for them to get their legs. I mean, like that
nine and seven Giants team to beat you in the

(13:03):
Super Bowl. All Right, we'll get to that also with
the Ravens out. As we sit in the guy called
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Hey, good news for the Chiefs, right,
Andy Read's worst nightmare. We're gonna tell you why. Coming
up next, Steve Harman, Rich Hornberger here on this big
a Sunday great news, quick and easy way for you

(13:24):
to save money. Switched Getico. It only takes fifty minutes
to see if you can say fift more on car insurance.
Go to guyga dot com see how much you could save.
All right, We're a little more than an hour and
a half away from kickoff in Kansas City as the
Chiefs will host the Houston Texans and course later on
Green Bay Packers hosting the Seattle Seahawks. The current temperature

(13:44):
in Kansas City is a frigid twenty nine degrees. It
is cold, but warmer than it was yesterday. I mean
yesterday snow everywhere. We're looking at Arrowhead right now. There's
no snow on the field. They're not expecting snow today.
It will be old, but warming up from yesterday where
it was in the mid team. So that's that's Kansas

(14:05):
City weather, all right. So any Reid is the sixth
winningest coach in the history of the NFL. The top
five are Don Shula, George Hallis, Bill Belichick, Tom Landry,
and Curly Lambeau. Decent company would be a part of.
So Annie Reid is the sixth winningness coach in the

(14:28):
history of the NFL. His career record against the Tennessee
Titans in his Eagle and Chiefs run over twenty one
years is one and seven. He has one and seven
against the Titans, including that inexplicable playoff loss at home
two years ago where they collapsed and lost that more

(14:49):
playoff games. Threw a touchdown pass to himself himself, yes
tip Paul, remember, and he was able to come up
with it while scrambling in some rusted in for a score. Now,
rich you and I, uh, you know, money through Friday
or in San Diego. And our boss Belong is a
lifelong cheese fan. I have picked the Chiefs before the

(15:11):
season began to win the Super Bowl, and you would think, wow,
Ravens out of the way. If the Chiefs, and it's
a big if, we're gonna get plenty in these games
coming up today. But if the Chiefs win today, they
will host the a f C Championship game against the
nine and seven Titans team, who, by the way, they
played earlier this year and lost to let me start
right there, though, you've got Andy Reid and by all measures,

(15:35):
this is one of the elite coaches in the history
of the NFL. The fact that he's won in seven
forget that. This year he's oh and one. So he's
seen this Titans team and you can make an argument, well,
this is this is a better Titan team now than
they were then when they upset the Chiefs. But can
he use that in any way to somehow unraveled the

(15:59):
miss rate for him on how to beat the Tennessee Tite.
Oh yeah, there's no doubt. Look there's there's boy. You
know I'm wearing the sweatshirt. I didn't even realize that
I pulled the wrong one out of the closet test.
This is super Bowl forty six, and in Super Bowl
forty six. The reason why I bring it up in
conversation is because something really kind of special happened. I

(16:24):
don't know if it's ever happened in the history of
the NFL when the Giants beat Um the Patriot team
I was on. So the New York Giants, as they
usually do, played the last preseason game that season against US,
and we want Patriots want. We won handle, I'm pretty sure.
And then we faced them in the regular season and
we won. And then you know, things happen, Your paths

(16:47):
diverge for a while and postseason success, and then you
meet each other again in the Super Bowl and after
getting beaten by US twice in preseason scores don't matter,
but you get a sense of the personnel is going
to be there all season long, especially in in the
final preseason game. Usually the starters get some run and
then obviously getting front row seats to seeing what in

(17:08):
a game that matters in the regular season, what teams
are going to try to do to each other. And
they beat us, and so that is without a doubt.
Part of the reason why I believe they did is
because you you get to you get to scout them
against your own kind. You get to see exactly how
they're going to attack you. Now, yeah, the Titans maybe

(17:28):
a different team today, and the Chiefs may be a
different team on the other side of a victory should
they get it against the Houston Texans. So if they
meet in the championship game in the a f C,
it is going to be a battle of two teams
that are different inherently because of the course of the season.
Things change, but one thing that will remain the same

(17:50):
is the virtues of the Titans. They can't get too
far away from who they are and who they've become.
This identity around toughness, this identity around bringing a very
physical aptitude to every Sunday is the reason why they've
gotten edge and a lot of these games. I think
you have to meet them on on the energy level.
You have to show them you will not be pushed around.

(18:12):
That is the most important thing to conquer. Go back
to the playgrounds where you grew up. It's a bully
needs to be socked in the face before you can
even get started on winning the fight. If you go
back to that game yesterday with the Ravens and the Titans,
I guess if you were making an argument for the
Ravens is that you know what the Titans are gonna
try to do. They're gonna try to run, run, run,

(18:36):
Derrick Henry. They're gonna try to control the clock. The
irony of yesterday's game, Ravens actually had the ball more.
I thought. I thought if there was one stat the
Titans had to win, it was time of possession because
that could be an overrated stat. Well it was overrated
yesterday because actually the Ravens had the more control of
the clock has They had the quick strike touchdown that

(18:57):
one play, so talking about the Titans. So um, so again,
if you feel like your Kansas City and you're facing
this Titan team, you know what they want to do.
The Ravens knew what the Titans wanted to do, and
they still couldn't stop it. Well, I mean, if I mean,
you would have thought, you're just gonna stack the box.

(19:18):
We're not gonna let Derrick Henry run it down our throats.
And yet Derrick Henry ran it down their throat. They
very quickly got into a position where they could now.
I mean, granted Derrick Henry had a lot to do
with that, but when you when you get yourself an
early lead and you're built this way, and again does
the Ravens team was a quick strike team. They seemed
likely could score whenever they wanted, no doubt. But but

(19:40):
when you get an early lead, you can sit on
the ball, you can rush the rock, you can really
sort of help yourselves, uh, win the time of possession game. Uh.
And they did the entire second half well. When you
look at the Chiefs and where they were at when
they lost the Titans in Tennessee earlier this season, Yes,
I understand it was Mahomes back, but he was back

(20:04):
for the first time after dislocating his kneecap. I mean
there were things. You know. Again, I don't want to
build excuses for the Chiefs because I'm not pot committed
to either side, but there there are differences to that
game that that won't be I mean, injuries withstanding, would
they still have a game to play the Chiefs to
against the Houston Texans today. But outside of you know,

(20:25):
a major injury occurring. I mean, this is a healthy
Patrick Mahomes. This is a Chiefs team through the end
of the season whose defense has played marvelous lee, especially
with the lead, very similar to the Titans when they
have a jump on teams, their pass rushes getting home.
They're doing really nice things up front on their defensive line.

(20:46):
Chris Jones, Frank Clark, what an addition from Seattle really
getting his legs under him as a Chief now understanding
what they're trying to do. This is this is again
it's it's the same teams, but they are completely different
from the last time they've met. All right, when they
face each other, Yeah, then that's a big app all right.
Where the guy go? Fox Sports Radio studios on the

(21:08):
other side, look playoff games is where you make your fame,
right if you're doing on the biggest stage. There is
one player in this upcoming game between the Texas and
the Chiefs that has more to prove than anybody else.
We're gonna tell you who that is, but first find
out what's trending right now. Mr David gascon Steve jumping in. Yes,

(21:31):
do defenses travel? Defenses travel. We had this conversation yesterday
with you and t J when I brought up that
certain Tennessee Titans team again, I think that Well, the
thing about, as I said earlier, all the focus has
been how Tannehil came in and he started winning. Obviously,

(21:51):
Derrick Henry, no one's been talking about this Titans defense.
They are now you know what this is like the
equivalent of the nineteen eighties Soviet Union team again Team USA.
You were just foaming at the mouth with Baltimore yesterday.
I was, well, no chance in hell Tennessee would win
that game. Well, no, no, no, no, no, Actually that
was that was Hushman Zada that said that you both

(22:13):
no no, Because I brought up the fact about the layoff.
I mentioned that to him. I also mentioned Derrick Henry
was on a roll. He insisted that was not gonna
happen again. So if you if you review the tape.
I know my voice is loud, but if you review
the tape, even though I certainly didn't side with the Titans, Uh,
it was t J that was definitely pumping the I

(22:37):
feel like he could be Richard Sherman back pedaling. You know, Yeah,
it's good, it's good. Let's have Gavin as a tiebreak up. Yeah. No,
Gavin was in with you guys as well too. You
guys are all complicit and dirty on this one. It's
all good, though, dude, all good. At least you weren't
Julian Edelman. Last night, Right Fellows TMZ reporting that he

(22:57):
was getting a bit crazy misdemeter vandalism in Beverly Hills,
that's your part of town, Steve. Um Police alleged that
Edelman was believed to be under the influence of alcohol,
jumping on the hood of a part Mercedes or on
nine o'clock. I wonder where he was at last night
before that. Um NFL network reporting that Chief Steve is
a lineman. Chris Jones listen as questionable. We'll play in

(23:18):
today's ball game against the Houston Texans Cleveland Brown's plan
on hiring Vikings offensive Cordner Kevin Stefanski as their new
head coach. Do you guys like that move? We'll get
into that one. Yeah. Kickoff time between Houston Kansas City,
by the way, is at three oh five Eastern, and
then the nightcap on Fox and the Fox Sports Go
app six forty Eastern Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers

(23:41):
in that ballgame as well. College basketball number eight Michigan
State losing at Perdu forty seven or thirty four Witas
State over Yukon seven and number nineteen Michigan twenty seven
to nineteen over in Minnesota. Back to Stephen Rich in
just ten seconds. But first a word from our friends
and farmers. Bundle Holmon Auto with farmers insurance and you
could save an average of seen it covered it bundled

(24:05):
farmers to get a quote today? Are farmers might average
savings and to read my farmers fok fire insurance exchanges
and affiliates parts not available in every state. Rich, you
ever do that and you're playing days at Penn State.
What's that jump on a hood? Oh yeah, of course,
of course, I mean now not in Beverly Hills. But
you know, sometimes you gotta take your shirt off and
get on top of the hell yeah the party. Yeah,

(24:28):
here's the difference. You are not some college kid, I mean,
I mean Edelman is not. He's thirty three years old. Yeah,
I mean, it's not like some nineteen year old Yahoo
jumping on the hood, which we've all done crazy things.
This is a thirty three year old NFL veteran getting
so smashed that he felt compelled to jump on a
Mercedes roof and dentist. Well, does it doesn't matter the okay?

(24:54):
You know? Well yeah, listen, there's some maturity issues there apparently. Um,
all right, David, thank you very much. Comedy Alive from
the guy, Go Fox Sports Radio Studios. Easy to say,
fifteen percent, a more in car Intrudents of Geico, go
to Gey Go Dot Comic call seven Otto. The only
hard part figuring out which way is easier. Let's go
back to the NFL. This just passed along to me

(25:18):
by our cohort, Mike Harmon. James Palmer is reporting Chris
Jones just got done with his field work out ahead
of this game. He was wearing a sleeve on his
right calf with a knee brace on that knee as well.
I'm told he will not be active. They wanted to
see if the workout went well and make the call.
Apparently they didn't see what they wanted. That is a

(25:38):
huge blow to the Chiefs defensive front. Yeah. Now, so
we're sitting here talking about the potential of the Chiefs
hosting the f C Championship game against the Tennessee Titans.
How about the Houston Texans hosting the a f C
Championship game against the Tennessee Titans. I want to go
back to the twenty seventeen draft. Now. Remember, Deshaun Watson
is coming off one of the great college football careers

(26:01):
of all time at Clemson. He is an All American, tremendous,
leading his team to a national championship, back to back
championship games. One of the most celebrated college quarterbacks of
the decade, no question. So a guy that Nick Saban
could not figure out. The genius Nick Saban had no
answer for Ditshaun Watson. On the other hand, Patrick Mahomes

(26:25):
had a losing record as a starting quarterback at Texas Tech.
Losing record, I mean after that season ended in twos
six team. Nobody is thinking there's anyway that Patrick Mahomes,
a losing record of Texas Tech, is going to be
selected ahead of the best quarterback in college football at

(26:45):
the time, DeShawn Watson. But that's exactly what happened. The
Chiefs leap frog over the Houston Texans to get the
tenth pick, and they took Mahomes. Of course, remember the
Bears had the second pick. They took Trebisky. That's another story.
But they leap frog Watson falls at twelve to the Texas.
So here we are year three of these two quarterbacks,

(27:06):
and as we go into the game, if you were
to pull people, they say Homes obviously, it's had a
better career, has already been an m v P. All
kinds of record are transcending quarterback Suddenly, Deshaun Watson is
almost an afterthought that could change today. When we talk about,
you know, taking advantage of the big stage. The one

(27:28):
thing that Shaun Watson has done in most of his
career at every level is play is best on the
biggest stage. Today is that golden opportunity for him. Chris
Jones absence would certainly help the cause for him, but
I mean, the fact is is that and we saw
it last week for the Texans. I mean, the Bills
seemingly had the game one and Watson somehow found a

(27:51):
way to pull that game out. So is a conceivable Rich,
is Deshaun Watson takes the field today hostile terry territory
in Kansas City, Chiefs are big nine and a half
point favorites in this game, that this could be that
game Because a lot of people are saying, you know,
Deshaun Watson, you know, they're in the playoffs, but has
he been as good as we thought? He's certainly been

(28:14):
wildly inconsistent. In fact, the Texans have just been an
inconsistent team. But if they come up with a big
effort and he outplays Patrick Mahomes today, maybe the maybe
the storyline changes a little bit. Well, look, I'm he's
a young quarterback. We have three years and that is
a very very small sample size at that position, as

(28:35):
we know, with players at that position now reaching an
exceeding the age of forty and having a tremendous amount
of success. So I the stories so far from being
told on Deshaun Watson. But to comment on his career
to this point. And I'll even lump in say Ryan Tannehill.

(28:56):
Uh it fit is everything, and this run right now
with Billy O'Brien has gone pretty good. It's gone pretty
well for Deshaun Watson. The limitations though, are obvious, and
the biggest ones to me are the fact that he
hasn't really played behind an impressive offensive line. Now. They
tried to rectify this this season in trade with the

(29:18):
Miami Dolphins getting Laramie Tunsel, trying to short things up,
who made the Pro Bowl, by the way, But it's
still a problem on that right side. It's a big problem.
And you look at Patrick Mahomes. Now that's a team.
John Dorsey was the architect of this team alongside Andy Reid,
who was built correctly. They win after high level UH

(29:38):
draft picks at the offensive line position. They shored up
that front. They made sure it was you know, and
and not to be punny here, but a chief concern
to build this team around the interior of the offensive
line really that the tackles play well as so I
I think that's been a big limitation for Deshaun Watson.

(29:58):
Patrick Mahomes is usual really well protected and he is
dynamic too. As an athlete, but he has a lot
more time in the pocket and is able to create
with his arms, uh and as well as his like.
So let's let's see as as you know, the aperture
widens as we have more and more years to study
DeShawn Watson. Let's let's try our hardest to hold off

(30:19):
condemning him with a playoff loss should he lose today
at Arrowhead. Because I I just I again, as a
as an him, what I'm I'm saying the other thing
that he if DeShawn Watson wins this game as a
sizeable underdog in Kansas City and he outplays Patrick Mahomes,

(30:39):
that he is the best quarterback on the field today,
Suddenly that whole idea that somehow Patrick Maholmes just blitzed
DeShawn Watson in terms of his ability at the next level,
that would be thrown out the window. Okay, you know what,
I appreciate your research because even in the playing field,

(31:01):
I I think that we get too caught up as
a society in this idea that just because a guy
who was selected ahead of you is having less success
than you are, it means a team made a mistake.
I don't. I don't necessarily subscribe to that newsletter because again,

(31:21):
fit is everything. You know. You could take a great
quarterback and put him in a lousy scenario and will
will he be as effective? Like if Tom Brady was
drafted by the Browns in the six rounds would what
would he have had the career he held? Hold on?
My point is this though, Why did Anny Reid and

(31:41):
the Chiefs pass on DeShawn Watson in the draft? Why
were they hell bent on taking patro McColl homes and
is losing record of Texas Tech, a school, by the way,
that had not produced any NFL quarterbacks despite the glossy
numbers they had put up back in the mic Leech era.
Why did they pass on Deshaun Watson, an approven winner
at Clemson, to take Patrick Mahomes. That is a snub.

(32:04):
If you're Deshaun Watson, you're kidding me. So I'm gonna
be there at Kansas City and you move up to
bring a quarterback in that couldn't hold my jock strap
at the college level, Yeah, I'm a little bit insulted.
If I'm Deshaun Watson, I understand he can be personally
offended but again, you know, if I'm in his position,
if I'm in his shoes, I'm not thinking of it

(32:25):
as such a negative if I feel like I landed
in the right situation like now, Don't get me wrong,
I think DeShawn Watson could have had an incredible level
of success should he have played with Andy Reid, you know,
sort of did what Mahomes did, backed up Alex Smith
for a year, got to start late in this season
his first season, and then got off to his start
in his second year as the the starter through the

(32:48):
off season. Could it have looked different for Deshaun Watson,
could have looked even potentially better for the Chiefs. Sure,
But I don't necessarily think it's him being snubbed. I
think it's just a matter of pref Friends John Dorsey
and Andy Reid sat in the room with these two
quarterbacks and probably said, this is close. Tom Brady for
twenty years had a chip on his shoulder. Aaron Rodgers

(33:10):
has had a chip on his shoulder. And I think
if there's a team that Deshaun Watson has got a
chip against, it's Kansas City, Because not only did they
pass on him, they moved up quarterback. I mean, Randy Moss,
he I just think that Shawn Watson is is now.
By the way, during our our week, you did not

(33:31):
Your pick of the week was not the Titans over
the Ravens. Your pick of the week was the over
in this game coming up fifty one. That was his
pick of the week, fifty one. He's taken the over
in today's matchup between the Texans and the Chiefs. All right,
when the guy go Fox Sports Radio Studios, the Cleveland

(33:51):
Browns apparently have their man. Why we'll try to explain
coming up next. Yeah, all right, welcome back to the
Drew car Show. All right, well we'll get to this
Brown's hiring here. All right, once again, Steve Hartman, Rich
Rmburger with you on this big Sunday. We're a little

(34:12):
over an hour away from kickoff as the Chiefs will
host the Houston Texans in today's first Divisional playoff game.
Later on Green Bay. Of course, we'll host a Seattle
Seahawks by nights and we will be down to the
final four. So this year is a little different as
far as coaching vacancies in the NFL average six to seven,

(34:34):
they're only five this year. And when you think back
of guys who survived Dan Quinn he seemed to be
dead man walking. When the Falcons were one in seven,
he saved his job. Uh, Matt Patricia, you know, I
guess they gave him a reprieve because he lost his
starting quarterback, Uh, Anthony Lynn from a twelve win team
to a five win team. So there were a lot

(34:56):
of coaches we were speculating could be hand that weren't.
There were only five jobs available and four ward click
quickly filled. That left the Cleveland Browns. And one thing
you'll have to say about the Browns process is they
were interviewing everybody. I believe they did eight interviews, actual
interviews with coaches. One was Mike McCarthy, of course took

(35:19):
the Dallas job. One of them was Vikings offensive coordinator
Kevin Stefanski. Apparently he will be the coach of the
Cleveland Browns. Now understand the history of Kevin Stefanski. He
actually was brought into the Vikings organization by Brad Childress.

(35:40):
He has been only in one organization his whole career,
the Vikings. And he said, well, he's been the offensive coordinator.
He was the interim offensive coordinator in eighteen this year
was his only year as the full time offensive coordinator.
So I'm thinking about the fact that you fire Freddie Kitchens,

(36:05):
who had never been a head coach, and as we
found out, maybe that's not the right role for Freddie Kitchens.
He had done a great job as the offensive coordinator.
He wasn't the right guy to be a head coach,
but to replace a guy who was a one and
done so we really don't know. Maybe he would have
improved as a head coach. We don't know about Freddy Kitchens.

(36:25):
You hire basically the same guy, except the difference is
this is a guy that wasn't in your organization. He
has been in one job with the Vikings in a
variety of roles, served one year of his offensive coordinator and,
by the way, just had his worst game as an
offensive coordinator yesterday as the Vikings were completely shut down

(36:46):
by that forty defense. So what do you make of
this hiring of Kevin Stefanski. Is he the right guy
for the Cleveland Browns? Well, obviously that remains to be seen.
But what I will say is this from an offensive perspective,
if you look at the Browns in the personnel they
have right now, with Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb, with

(37:10):
a quarterback who is accurate and dynamic but maybe has
underplayed his reputation so far in Baker Mayfield, and an
offensive line that admittedly needs some work but potentially could
be improved in a draft or two. Doesn't that feel
like the Minnesota Vikings doesn't It doesn't really sort of
feel like what the tools the ingredients they had in

(37:33):
place for Kevin Stefanski to take Kirk Cousin, you know,
who largely has been an underwhelming quarterback throughout his career
in the NFL, but with great talent. There's no denying
his talent and his accuracy, but there were some hiccups
along the way, and he's turned him into a playoff
winning quarterback. And so I really the fit Again, everything

(37:57):
in the NFL is about fit quarterback. As we talked
about it all the time. Who's their offensive coordinator, what
are the pieces around them? But with head coaches, and
with especially head coaches who may call a side of
the ball, which he could end up doing, fit is everything.
And I think that at least from a personnel standpoint,
the Browns really do mimic a lot of the same

(38:21):
personnel that the Vikings had, and they had success within.
But my question is this, you hired Freddie Kitchens who
had no head coaching experience. That first game of the year,
when they had eighteen penalties, You're like, wow, okay, does
he really have control of this team? And it never happened.

(38:43):
It's not to say that he doesn't know football. He does,
but there's a difference between being a coordinator or an
assistant coach and being the head guy. I would just
think if I'm the Browns, I rolled the dice on
a guy with no head coaching experience. It took us
one year to say it's not working. Now you're gonna
hire another guy. There's never been a head coach of anything,

(39:04):
but he's very experienced that he's been working in the NFL.
Since that doesn't make you ahead, we know, we know
the why. Why do you think do you think who
do you think passed on? Who? Did they pass on
Josh McDaniels or did he pass on them? What do
you think really happened there? Because they brought him in
for an interview, frankly passed on who? Frankly, you know

(39:28):
with Josh McDaniels, my best guess on why he interviewed.
I never thought he was leaving. I thought he would
be a great selection for the very similar reasons why
I think an offensive minded head coach And I said
this this week, they need to hire an offensive minded
head coach and you know, help Baker Mayfield. Long why
he would be a good fit is that reason they're
gonna tether this coach now to Mayfield for the entirety

(39:49):
that they have Mayfield. But I think Josh McDaniels interviewing
for jobs was more about Josh McDaniels wanting some leverage,
because the reason why he left a plane waiting on
the one Way when he was supposed to accept this
Colts job before Frank Right became that that cold tech
coach is because he is the coaching Wait when Belichick

(40:10):
doing he interviewed for the Brown's leverage, because you can
put this leverage for what to New England? You can
get more screws. What is he getting? You can get
more out of New England if you look like you're
anxious to leave. But when he passed on the Colts job,
we already supposed the fact that he had been guaranteed

(40:30):
something by Bob Kraft about his future with the Patriots
organization pal full money. All Right, we're in the getic
Fox Sports Radio studios. Very busy NFL weekend coming up next,
all rolling on on this a big Sunday. We're an
hour away from kickoff as the Kansas City Chiefs will
host the Houston Texas. The winner will host the a

(40:54):
f C Championship game next week against the Tennessee Titans.
We are coming alive from the guy Go Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or
more on your car insurance. Visit guy Go dot com
for a free rate quote. Alright, so we've been getting
plenty into this matchup between the Chiefs and the Texans.

(41:16):
Much more on that's still to come. I also want
to get into the second game today, Rich, and that
of course, is the Green Bay Packers hosting the Seattle Seahawks.
UH before the weekend began, if you were to say
which road team might be the one that comes away
with a victory, A lot of people looking at Seattle
obviously have one of the best quarterbacks in the league

(41:37):
in Russell Wilson. Even though the Packers are sitting at
thirteen and three they don't feel like a thirteen and
three team, you know what I mean. I mean, at
times you're just like, you know, you look at the
forty and ninets, Okay, yeah, you know the Saints, Yeah,
the Ravens. Yeah, by the way, two of those teams
are already gone. But is it weird that I I,
I like, I feel like I'm only one who says

(41:59):
this regularly about the Packers. But I'm still I'm still
pretty impressed with them. I still think that they're a
very good team. I I understand look at their their
wins and you may say, well, who did they beat?
And you you may have an argument, right, But still,
I think what's underrated about the NFL and victories against

(42:22):
teams you should beat is how many teams don't beat
the teams they should beat regularly. The Packers cleaned house,
They beat every single team they should beat well, and
remember they still lost to teams they should have beat. Okay, yeah,
I'm just saying, Well, the Philadelphi Eagles that Thursday night
football game. Great game plan by the way by the Eagles.

(42:46):
And I looked, I looked at that game very carefully,
and we actually watched this together. We sat down at
a lobby bar. We were covering the Earl Spence Junior fight.
Remember this said there was fought in Los Angeles. And
we sat down, had a burger and martini together, and
we turned on Martin by the way. That was a
fantastic burger and a Martin by the way, it was

(43:07):
a thirty I'm not kidding you, it was a game
thirty dollar hamburger. It was a solid hamburger with a
view of the City of Angels. We sat there once
that Thursday nighter and what I saw was what you

(43:27):
see a lot from Doug Peterson, which is a team
that can sneak up on you. I have a tremendous
amount of respect for the Eagles and what Doug Peterson
has done. He passed three seasons. He could easily have
been the Coach of the Year because he's taken injury
riddled teams and has designed game plans to cover up
limitations and expose teams that they're preparing for. So, yeah, look,

(43:49):
there were some bad losses on their docket, but thirteen wins.
Thirteen wins, and to play to your personality, are they
a team that is now asking Aaron Rodgers to go
out and there and pass for five thousand yards and
win every game. No, they're saying, Aaron Jones be the hero,
Aaron Rodgers be the compliment, and we're gonna win a

(44:11):
lot of games that way. They stuck to the script
and they've had a tremendous amount of success doing it.
By the way, I want to do a little the
Dallas Cowboys. So they interviewed I just I had to
get the Cowboys in there. Remember the Cowboys interviewed two
veteran coaches, Marvin Lewis and Mike McCarthy. You know, long
time with a single team, both of one team for

(44:33):
their whole careers. Think about this, Marvin Lewis leaves the
Bengals and they create they go to and fourteen. Mike
McCarthy leaves the Packers and they go thirteen and three.
I mean, if I was Jerry Johns, I'm like, let
la see who had a greater impact on their team?
Was that Marvin Lewis who somehow got the Bengals to

(44:55):
seven playoff runs? Because when he left, they go too
and fourteen with an unproven coach, and the Green Bay
Packers they get rid of Mike McCarthy, They bring in
another unproven coach and they go thirteen and three. Wait
a second, so the Bengals were significally worse. Yeah, wait,
hang on now, well Dalton played at the end of
the year, the whole year, inherited a better Margaret Lewis

(45:17):
is a much better coach than Mike McCarthy. It's not.
You're not gonna say who's that? This is outrage? Is hey,
w w W with Aaron Rodgers versus Andy Daltons a
better quarterback? Are you? Are you? Okay? Okay, So you're
making the point that Annie Dalton's a better quarterback than
Aaron Rodgers. Is that what you're saying, Sam, No, I'm

(45:39):
saying that. So you're saying that Anie Dalton is the
equivalent of Aaron Rodgers because Mike McCarthy was there, Aaron
Rodgers won any playoff games. They helped each other because
lost all his playoff games. All I know is that

(45:59):
one coach left to organization. They went to to and fourteen.
The other guy left his organization and they won thirteen
and three. Let's concentrate on a couple of facts. Okay,
that that's a fact. That but but but honestly, with
your your peerless reputation hanging in the balance of the
answer to this question. Yeah, which coach inherited a better

(46:20):
roster a better team? Zach Taylor and Matt Lafleur. The
Packers had missed the playoffs two straight years. Which coach
inherited a better roster when they signed up for their
first ever head coaching job, Matt Laflour with the Packers
or Zach Taylor with the Cincinnati Bengals. My feeling on
the Packers was Ted Thompson. No, no, no, no. What

(46:43):
I had Brady Papa here with me, the former Packer
and people were saying those two years that the Packers
missed the playoffs, that the cover was bear like Aaron
Rodgers had lost all of his weapons. You know, No,
Jordy Nelson, they had nothing. No tell me with a
straight face that the Cincinnati Bengals had more talent this

(47:04):
season on their roster. They had the same record the
year before. Is the Packers answer the question that I
just gave you a fact the Bengals and the Packers
had the same record of the year, because it disproves
your point. You think the Bengals had wait eleven game
difference and talent going into the year. No, no, no,
there's contributing factors. But I'm asking about the rosters because

(47:26):
it's important to concentrate on and it's what you're gonna
admit that Mike McCarthy is gonna be an absolute bust
in Dallas. I mean a bust if they had taken
Marvin Lewis, defensive guy. Come on it, Thank you very much,
because this is Steve. This is like it feels like
like crazy talk, like have you gone? Have you sucked? Do?

(47:50):
Let me ask you this? Are you apt it's happening
to you play? You're just you're throwing stuff out there.
Let me ask you this. If you look at the
Dallas Cowboys, is they do they have a bigger problem
on the defensive side of the football or the offensive side.
They had a defense loaded with personnel and they underperformed
their person So Marvin Lewis is a defensive coach, Mike

(48:13):
McCarthy is an offensive coach. Both have long histories as
a head coach, and it's no surprise that Jerry Jones
didn't have apparently with the Cleveland Browns. Why would you
not hire Marvin Lewis? Is keeping Kellen Moore, the architect
of this resurgent Dallas offense on his staff. Why because

(48:36):
he is the touchstone for doctor by the way, By
the way, since you know, you know Mike McCarthy hired
is his defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan. You know Mike Nolan.
This is his eighth time, eight different team. He's been
a defensive coordinator eight You know why he's been on
so many teams because he keeps getting fired. Yea. The
one exception was he with the Ravens and he got

(48:58):
the head coaching. He's on his eighth run. He has
been a career as a defensive coordinator. You are to
hire a career assistant. You you go where when the
heads when you go with the head. But his head
has rolled so many times. You can be tethered to
a coach that gets fired Rob Ryan, would you can

(49:20):
he's had a lot of defensive coordinating job. Would he
consider him a bad coordinator? Will do I consider him
a elite coordinator? No, I've never thought Rob Ryan was
a great coordinator, asked the Raiders William. I will say
his brother, I think Rex Ryan. I think Rex Ryan

(49:42):
was an elite coordinator. But Rob Ryan has been living
out the coattails of his twin brother for a year,
had jobs? Is he lesson a look this, there's a
lot of guys that have multitude of jobs that are
not talented coaches. I feel like when I call you
the robot because you are like a status tisue machine
that he computes. Can we need to dust buster spread?

(50:07):
We need to remove your mother? The property episode when
Ken Jennings was facing IBM or was he ken? But
he was one of the contestants facing the IBM computer. Okay,
let me let me just put I'll put my print
on this conversation. Mike McCarthy, as a new head coach
in Dallas is inheriting what is one of the more

(50:29):
talented rosters in all of professional football right now. The
Dallas Cowboys are loaded for bear, both offensively and defensively.
They have an owner who likes to spend on talent,
players love to play there, and he has a history
of victories in the postseason, which is something that's evaded
the Cowboys for the years that Jason Garrett has been there.

(50:51):
So this is going to be a fit. Now. Will
it be a Super Bowl year next season? Can't say
for certain, but do they have the tools in place
to make a deep run, to win that division and
to make noise in the postseason without question in my mind,
especially when you look around that division. I mean, will
the Eagles stay healthier? Are they gonna be laid up

(51:13):
in the emergency room for the third straight season under Peterson?
We don't know. So that the Dallas and the Giants
and the Redskins are in building. So the Dallas Cowboys,
with an experience, veteran head coach, making a necessary change
on the defensive side of the ball and having an
offense that has played better than they've had in years

(51:33):
would tell more of Zoc and he's retained him have
the best chance of having success with a new head
coach than any other higher al Right, I wasn't even
gonna mention this man. I just gotta throw a quick
note a right, what happened Bill Cower? Yesterday? It was
announced is going into the Hall of Fame one right now,
because this is gonna so I understand this. Bill Cower
was two and four an a f C championship games.

(51:56):
But here's what really is the kicker. All four of
those losses were at home. Imagine you're two and four
in a f C Championship games, and you lose all
four of those games at home to the Chargers and
ninety four the Broncos of nineties seven and to the Patriots,
and oh and and oh, for all four of those

(52:17):
losses were at home. Hall of Fame. You know what
was on that committee to put him in the Hall
of Fame, Bill Belichick. He was my favorite guy. I
want to in defense of Bill Kauer, and I feel
like you are legitimately the only person that I have

(52:37):
to defend the credentials of Bill Kawar too, But I
will um, why are we undervaluing the fact that he
got to six a f C Championship games. When you
lose them all, you didn't lose them all. He won
two of them. He went to six. Now we will
Harold in the n C Double A Bracket final four teams.
You will hang banners and gym's and arenas around the

(52:59):
compass of this had a greater history in the sport.
Don Coriell or Bill Kauer as a coach. Listen, you
know me as a former corel maybe the other, but
one of the coach football teaple Like I look at
Don Corriell in in a light. I mean he you
should because you can't write the history of the NFL. Yeah,
he changed things at the history of the NFL allowed

(53:21):
Bill Cower cannot You cannot because look at his coaching tree,
Look at the other coaches he's produced, Look at the
success he had, look at the rain. Who do you
think was a better coach? Bill, Bill Kawer, Mike Holmgren
home even got the three Super Bowls one one with
two different organizations and as more career wins. How does

(53:41):
Bill Keller getting over my wait a second way, but
why did? Why do you want to talk about coaching trees?
How about Mike Holmegren coaching one coach getting into the
Pro Football Hall of Fame diminished the successes? I think
they should both be in. Would why would you pick
over hog? Whose coaching trees goes on? Any read Sean Gruden, Maruchi,

(54:04):
all these guys learned under Mike Holmegren. Why is he
not in the halloots should be in. I'd be running
out of bronze. There'd be okay, alright, so here I
know you you put everybody in all I love it.
We're in the guy Fox Word Studios for Aaron Rodgers

(54:25):
Aaron Rodgers on the all time greats, even though he
wasn't picked to the All century team, which is baffling.
He puts things in perspective on today's game against the Seahawks.
Coming up next. Steve Harman, Rich Armburger great news, quick
and easy way for you to save money. Switched the
Geico It only takes fifty minutes to see if he
can save fifteen minutes or more on car insurance. Go

(54:47):
to guy good dot com see how much you could
save all right, forty minutes away from kickoff, Chiefs hosting
the Texans, followed by the Packers hosting the Seahawks. Aaron Rogers, So,
after missing the playoffs the last two years and goes
two years ago he was hurt most of the year,
Aaron Rodgers, at age thirty six, is back in the

(55:10):
playoff picture, and he's got a home game at Lambeau.
By the way, the weather and Lambeau is Lambeau weather.
It's going to be cold. And by the way, Rich,
you know this as well. This is the Lake game.
I mean, it's already gonna be cold when they kick
off the game, which is going to be close to
six o'clock local time. By the time they get to

(55:32):
the second half, Wolf, it is gonna be cold. Yeah,
right now in Green Bay it's three degrees. That's twenty
three degrees. Now, so what do you think the uh
we're talking in six seven hours from now is that
is that temperature you're going to go up or down?
That is going to drop precipitously. Okay, it's gonna be cold.
So to let's let's actually look at the advanced um, yeah,

(55:56):
advanced weather for let's say degrees currently. So what's gonna
be at eight o'clock tonight Green Bay time, which would
be about the second half. You know what, I'll be
darned it's gonna be okay, well maybe maybe it won't
be all right that aside the way it'll be degrees.

(56:17):
With that, I'll big up great from the twenties anyway.
So I saw an interview during the week with Aaron
Rodgers talking about getting this opportunity once again to be
in the playoffs, and even though he didn't want to,
you know, saying sort of fatalistic about you know, you
know this could be it, he made it infinitely clear.

(56:39):
And I guess you find this out because you know
you're when you're in the playoffs every year, as the
Packers were, you just sort of take it for granted.
You know, things can happen in the playoffs, a play here,
an injury here, and all of a sudden you lose.
But when you missed the playoffs two straight years and
then get back there as a veteran quarterback, you appreciated
that much more. And he dad look and he brought

(57:02):
brought up the fact that I've been through the wars
I've had. I was on a fifteen and one Packer
team as defending Super Bowl champions and we're facing a
nine and seven Giants team at home and we lost.
So anything had happened the playoffs. But from his perspective
in talking about what he's going to do today on

(57:24):
the other side, the immensely talented Russell Wilson, what do
you expect from Rogers because it's been a very different
Aaron Rodgers and we talked about this before the season began.
How would this young coach, Matt Lafleur deal with not
just one of the great quarterbacks, but a very headstrong quarterback.
You know, there was no doubt that, you know, Mike
McCarthy part of shoving him out of the door, is

(57:46):
that he had lost that connection with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers
was not crying any tears when Mike McCarthy was let
go as the head coach. So what have you seen
this year in Aaron Rodgers And how it is that
Matt live Floor has gotten on the same page as
a completely untested head coach. Was one of the great
quarterbacks of all time. Well, you know, really, I think

(58:09):
a lot of what happened and took place in Green
Bay is narrative busting, Like this idea that you have
this completely rigid I'll do it on my own term
style quarterback, curmudgeonly working his way through a Hall of
Fame career and head coach. Beware, Aaron's not gonna let

(58:31):
you run the offense you want to watch or run.
It's it's just a false narrative because he's he's been
completely amendable. I mean, what similarities can you see in
this Green Bay offense from the time when Mike McCarthy
was there. In fact, much to the dismay of Green
Bay fans, you had a star and Aaron Jones sitting

(58:54):
on the roster, averaging over four yards and carry who
virtually never got the football, and it was heads hatching
at times, and people were calling out Mike McCarthy for this.
And now, granted, you know you have a system that
works for a long time, I get it, and you know,
you sort of get set in your ways and you
want to see work. Uh. And there was discord obviously
growing between McCarthy and Rodgers, and that had an impact,

(59:16):
and a lot of things had an impact. He was
injured one season. You know, the list goes on. But
the fact that Aaron Rodgers welcomed in Matt Lafleur and
his new offense and his new uh thought process on
how Rogers should be used. He's not the highlight of
this offense anymore. He's used in a complimentary role and
he's played some of his best football of his career

(59:39):
this season as a result of it. Well, it's interesting
if you look at the numbers a year ago as
opposed to this year. Last year, sixteen stars this year,
sixteen stars for Rodgers. Last year he completed sixty two
percent of his passes. This year sixty two of his passes.
Last year, he had twenty five touchdowns with two picks.
This year he had twenty six touch downs with four picks.

(01:00:01):
In other words, his stats are identical. You know what's
not identical. Last year they were six nine and one.
This year they were thirteen and three. Look at the
rushing statistics, I think they're very telling. And how many
more yards did he have throwing last year than he
did this year? He had four? And Tom Moore last year,
and and and that includes I mean, the numbers are
almost identical. His yards per game went down by twenty

(01:00:25):
seven yards per game, so the numbers, his numbers have
not changed dramatically. The number that changed dramatically as they
went from six nine and one to thirteen and three
and again also improvements on the defense. Now they have
veteran players, and the health was there, and they added
some things this offseason that helped that. But I'll argue

(01:00:46):
this standpoint just from the just from the side of
the personal narrative that runs against Aaron Rodgers, this idea
that he is he is, you know bad. I shouldn't
say bad to people, but he's difficult, right, A difficult
quarterback would have probably given Now it's a lot easier
to do this when you start the season winning as

(01:01:06):
many games as Matt Lafloor and the Packers did. It's
a lot easier to believe an offensive system should hold
and take place and work throughout a year when you
have early success and often success with a new head
coach with a new offensive system. But they've worked together wondrously,
and that's what you that's your only hope is that
if you're going to come into a situation, especially one

(01:01:29):
where Aaron Rodgers is a Hall of Famer, if he
retires today, he's going to be elected to the Pro
Football Hall of Fame. You're Matt Lafleur, You've never had
an opportunity to do this before in your life, and
you're walking into that room. The fact that he was
able to imprint this offense in any way and have
his say and make this look so vastly different than
it did a year ago says a lot about Aaron

(01:01:51):
Rodgers and his capability to change this late in his career.
I'll tell you one team that's routine for the Packers today.
That would be the forty Niners. They don't want to
play the sea Hawks again. Seahawks are tricky team of
the forty Niners. They know each other too well. If
you don't remember, Green Bay went to San Francisco, uh
and got crushed thirty eight this year. Uh, that would

(01:02:12):
not be a good trip for green Bay. So yeah,
forty Niners rooting for the Packers. We'll see how that
game plays out. All right, we're half an hour away,
half an hour away from Chiefs and Texas. We're in
the guy, go Fox Sports Radio Studios. Let's find out
what's trending right now. David Gascon, who's been strutting his
stuff today, thinking that pretty much, he called everything that's

(01:02:33):
happened so far in the divisional round. No I I no,
I was right there with a couple of you guys
Minnesota and uh San Francisco. I do think San Francisco's
gonna win the entire thing. That. Yeah, we're we're holding
off on our forty niner talk. That's as much they
look good. They gotta be right. Oh yeah they are,

(01:02:53):
that's wrong. Strong. They got three backs, they got a
couple of stud tight ends, they got are all world defense,
a good play caller, and they have a quarterback that
just wins. I'm a card carrying member to the George
Kittle fan Club. Now Skip Day by the way he
really is like he is like personality wise and everything else.

(01:03:15):
He's like Gronk two point. He's a star. He blocks
his tail off, he catches everything thrown out. I love him.
Never mind us Iowa, Sam, Where did Kittle go toge?
I think he went to Iowa? Iowa Iowa tight ends. Yeah, interesting. Yeah,
this has been a good year for Iowa. Sam. I

(01:03:36):
was football team took a part usc the Holiday Bowl,
and he was really proud about Noah Fan in the
second half of the season when Drew Lot came in
at quarterback, A little worried about t J. Hockinson here
a brutal ankle injury. Yes, it's been a nice year
and Iowa beat the hell out of Maryland the other day.
I gave that was Sam some great beer too, So

(01:04:01):
I was living a charmed life right now. Oh, yes, guys.
A couple of notes, uh. I know Richie had mentioned
at the top of the last hour James Palmer confirming
that Chris Jones is out now. He was testing things out,
was listening as questionable, and I was gonna play, and
then after the workouts He's not gonna play today against
the Houston Texans. They will kick off in about thirty
five minutes from now from Arrowhead Stadium, Cleveland. Brown's plan

(01:04:23):
on hiring Vikings offensive cordiner Kevin Stefanski as her new
head coach. He's just thirty seven years of age. Seahawks
expect Dwayne Brown left hop to play today against the
Green Bay Packers. They'll kick off at six forty eastern
from Lambeau and Julian Edelman was arrested last night in
Beverly Hills for mr Minor vandalism apparently jump on the
hood of a Mercedes at nine o'clock Pacific. Last night,

(01:04:44):
college basketball Perdue beat up Number eight Michigan State seventy
one to forty two is the funnel that one fellas
are in overtime right now, Wichita State and Yukon tied
at seventy one a piece, and number nineteen Michigan is
trilling at Minnesota fifty two four to fifty two. You
with about eighty six to play in regulation. That's Stephen
Rich in just ten seconds. But first a word from

(01:05:05):
friends and farmers. Bundle home on auto with Farmers insurance
and you could save an average of We know a
thing or two about how to save a Bucker two
call on farmers to get a quote today we are
farmers might average thing under my firms for fair insurance exchanges,
and it's probably not available every state. You guys taken
this game anyway, Houston and I got the Chiefs by

(01:05:27):
like a hundred, you know what, not by a hundred.
I think this is actually gonna be a fairly high
scoring game. I got it to shootout. Uh, and I
got you know, the Houston Texans be able to move
the ball, but the Chiefs just I mean they win
shoot out. How about this? Does will Fuller play the
entire game? Good question? I mean that could tilt things
in favor of the Chiefs dramatically because he's a really,

(01:05:48):
really solid deep threat for Watson. I don't know, I don't,
I don't know. We'll see, we'll see. How help is
I am telling you right now, Chris Jones being out
for the Chiefs is big. It's uh and I just
had this. There's some about Deshaun Watson today. This is
the team that passed on him. They leap frog over
the text and specifically to take another quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

(01:06:13):
I just think that Shaun Watson after a big comfort
behind went against the Bills, has got something to prove today.
All right, David, thank you very much. We're coming to
Alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Easy to
say fifteen percent more on car interns with Geico, go
to guy Go dot comor call seven Otto. The only
hard part figuring out which way is easier. I'm gonna
give a couple of stats here. You know I love

(01:06:33):
those stats, right, Tell this the two teams that won yesterday,
the San Francisco forty Niners Jimmy Garoppolo through for a
hundred and thirty one yards, Ryan Tannehill for the Tennessee
Titans through for what happened to the past happy league?
I thought it was all about throwing for you know,
gaudy numbers from these are two teams. I mean, the

(01:06:57):
forty Niners out gained the Vikings one d six to
twenty one on the ground between Coleman and Mostert, they
just grinded that Viking defense. And I don't have to
tell you about Derrick Henry and company what they did
for the time. So this is throwback football. We haven't
seen these kind of numbers since. Oh I don't know,

(01:07:18):
George hallis Curly Lambo days. As far as quarterbacks not
blowing the ball, by the way, it's the one bet
that uh Gavin one yesterday he predicted that Kirk Cousins
would have more yards passing that Jimmy Garoppolo about a
hundred thirty one yards for Garoppolo, eight eight for Tannehill
and both these teams won easily. Yeah, was this the

(01:07:41):
Army Navy game or what's going on? What's going on
here in the postseason? As we know, you are now
distilling the league to the best performing defenses. So while
we get very very excited about offense throughout the regular season,
and we should because it's never been in a better
time to be an offensive skill position player, especially in

(01:08:03):
the passing game, defenses can't do anything to you all
regular season long. Referees, flags get in the way of
progress for defenses. They just feel everything's U p I.
Everything is a defensive holding in the defensive secondary until
you get to the playoffs. And the reason is, I

(01:08:24):
think it's an edict because you are now watching only
one game or two games in a in a Saturday
or Sunday afternoon. I think the NFL passes down and
edict to the officials, you better be sure before you
throw the flag. By the way, So we're talking, and
yesterday former Pro Bowl wide receiver about the past interference call.

(01:08:45):
He said it was past interference, but he would never
have called it in that situation. But he also said this.
But he also said this, and this is from a
wide receiver's perspective. When you have someone next to you,
you know, defender, and you're you know, and the balls
in the air, he said, it's just instinct. It's not

(01:09:06):
it's not like a conscious act. It's just sort of
instinct of like you know, sort of you know, get
away because I'm trying to get the ball. I mean, look,
you know what it compared to this, because t J.
Reis is a great point. When a foul ball or
a home run is hid into the bleachers, you'll see routinely.
You know, it's somebody who works in an accounting office

(01:09:27):
who wouldn't lay hands on anybody all of a sudden
stiff arming his girlfriend or grandmother to catch a foul ball.
It's human instinct to create space before you leave your feet,
because you don't want to come down on somebody's appendage
and roll your ankle. You see it in the paint
in basketball games. If I'm going up for a rebound,

(01:09:48):
the last thing I'm doing before I'm going up to
catch a lob on a pass or going up to
get a ball off the glass is elbowing somebody in
the chest to make sure I have a clear landing spot.
And that's exactly what we saw from Kyle Rudolph in
the end zone to finish off the Saints in the
Vikings Saints wildcard game. Now back to the postseason and
what we're seeing offensively. Again, the officiating has a role

(01:10:11):
in it, but also you distill the NFL to its
best performing defenses, and that's what you see. You now
see the reason or part of the reason why a
lot of these teams advanced is because of how great
their defense and wildly undertouted throughout the regular season. But
that's all we're left with. Titans great defense. Patriots were
a great defense before dispatched by the Titans. The Saints

(01:10:35):
had a great defense. The Packers, the Smiths, you know,
press in Zadarius off the edge have been maniaccess season.
Great defense you've had, You've had a lot of great
examples either in team defense or in pass rush capability
of wildly successful defenses paired with really talented offenses in

(01:10:55):
the postseason. That's why it is more difficult to move
the ball one you get to the divisional round, all right.
So getting back to this Chiefs Texans game. If you
don't know this, they face each other this year and
the Texans won the game. In that game, Carlos Hide
ran wild hundreds sixteen yards and a couple of touchdowns
against his former team. You know, I'm watching NFL network,

(01:11:17):
I'm watching all these prognosticators. Nobody's picking the Texas. Nobody.
It's unanimous. Chiefs. Have they seen any Reeve's track record?
Not overwhelming certainly since he's been with the Chiefs in
playoff games. I mentioned earlier, how I really feel like
Deshaun Watson if he's got something to prove against any team,

(01:11:39):
it's against the Chiefs team that bypassed to take Patrick.
How do you feel about Billy O'Brien in the postseason,
because if you're gonna bring it tack, coach, and why
not compare apples to apples here he's playing against Billy O'Brien.
How do you feel about his postseason record as that coach.
I don't have enough of a track record with him.
I mean he's had bad games and he's had you know,
okay games. I mean he doesn't have enough of the
track or it's not like a Read has been around forever.

(01:12:01):
I'm just trying to figure out. So let me ask
you this, and teams he's won in the postseason, who's
this Andy Read? That was his Philadelphia days. His record
in Kansas City is not nearly as good in the postseason.
All right, Yeah, he got two five NFACY championship games
in Philadelphia lost for uh. I mean, listen again, if

(01:12:22):
we're gonna have the discussion about getting it, wasn't it
wasn't a huge critic of his playoff performance in Philadelphia,
although Eagle fans were because they're like, where's the super Bowl?
But it's Dodgers fans in in Los Angeles. Look, you
can get the playoffs you have with the Ravens out. Yes,

(01:12:46):
the Cheese are now the favorites to win the a
f C. They are the favorites. They have a home
game this week and if they win, they have another
home game next week. They are the favorite. Yes, So
if they don't don't end up in the Super Bowl.
But hang on, but aren't we undervaluing what we've already

(01:13:07):
saw in the wild car round in Foxboro? No, no, no,
we're talking the division round in Baltimore. I mean, you're
the Chiefs, get past Houston here at home in Arrowhead
and host the Titans. Who do you think is a
better team personnel wise? The Kansas City Chiefs, the Houston
Texans or the Tennessee Titans. Who has the best person

(01:13:29):
I mean it goes you have it close to the
right order. I think personnel wise, it goes Kansas City,
then it goes Houston Texans, and then it goes Tennessee Titans.
All right, So if you have the best personnel and
you have the most experienced coach, I mean you're again
Bill O'Brien, Mike Vrabel versus any Reid. I mean, I

(01:13:52):
look at it right now, I would I'm picking the Chiefs.
I had the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl this
year before the scenes I began. Momentum is a hell
of a thing, all right. So, and the Texans have
in a moment of going in this game, coming out
their comfort behind victory against the Bills. I don't I listen.
I don't feel like the Texans uh won that game
so much escaped with their life. I mean that was

(01:14:14):
that was a poor game by the Texans. That was
completely a rhythmic offensive performance to Shaun Watson how to
play Hudeni to get the victory there. I was not
impressed at all with the Houston Texans performance against the
Bills and the Bills team by the way, as much
as I know Bills fans are so excited about Josh Allen,

(01:14:34):
there are going to be enormous limitations if he doesn't
grow as a passer in this league. There were limitations
while he was at Wyoming. Is a big, strong guy.
He can impress you with his arm strength, but he's
wildly inaccurate down the field, and when the spotlights on
the big game against the Patriots in the regular season,
the big game in Houston, he does some confounding things

(01:14:55):
with the football. So I I do think that they
got to the postseason and did a great job of offensively,
of of hiding some of the limitations that offense has
at the most important position. But getting beyond the Bills
to talk about the Texans surviving that game twenty two
to nineteen. That's what it was. It was survival. I

(01:15:16):
don't feel like they are have any inert sha roy
into this Chiefs game. All right, well we'll see soon
that game is going to kick all right, hold on, alright,
so uh we'll kick that game off in about twenty minutes.
So we're down to six. We're down to six. But
based on what we saw yesterday, aren't the forty Niners

(01:15:37):
like way beyond any other team? Were many in these playoffs?
We'll tell you why they are the team to beat
coming up next. No, no, no no, don't yes, no no no, yes,
this is no no no, no, no no, there's something's
going on. Okay, Steve Iray, Richard Arneberger, all right, top
of the r We're gonna get ready for the kickoff
between the Chiefs and the Texans. By the way, great

(01:16:00):
song choice by Sam. You know. So the funny thing
about celebrities, about professional athletes, and and this happens sometimes
where it's a Justin Bieber egging a neighbor's house and
you know, pissing off. You know, the bell Arians, you know,
or the Beverly Hillians. If Julian Edelman had jumped up

(01:16:23):
and down on the hood of a Bentley in the
city of Boston. This wouldn't be a news story. This
would be an autograph signing because the owner would come
down with a sharpie, they would remove the hood and
they'd hang it in their house. But the fact that
you were using the biber and now that Bieber was
a teenager, Edelman is thirty three years old. Okay, I
keep getting back. You know, when you're a teenager, we

(01:16:46):
all did crazy things. But when you get to three,
being drunk at thirty three, we all do that three,
but you're not jumping up on cars of people that
you know. I'm I'm a grown man, Sam, alright, so
let me let me you were drafted the same year,
two thousand nine draft class. I added Penn State Julian
Edelman out of Kent State. Uh he, uh, listen he

(01:17:11):
When we came in, he was a seventh rounder, had
no idea if he was even going to make this team.
Was trying his hardest to convince them that, you know,
he could be an excellent special teamer. And he's become
what many consider as a potential Hall of Famer. Many
consider him to be potentially Hall of Famer for the
drunk Jumping on Cars Hall of Fame. He's already in

(01:17:31):
the front. It's a limited class. But we'll see if
he gets in. When when and hang on, hang on,
Matthew Slater. Now there's a guy can make an famer.
He will be a Hall of Famer. He will be
alongside his dad Jackie. Uh. The the the story is, though,
what happens is and you know, since I've moved on
from my playing career, you you just the rules change.

(01:17:54):
The rules change. When you are isolated in a locker
room with a bunch of guys, it's like going to Neverland.
You're off the peter Pan. Everybody's wearing the tight green outfits.
The Lost Boys or your buddies are fighting this captain
with a hook. Yeah, I'm telling you it's a different
And then you leave the sport and you go, oh wow,
everybody else grew up and I was locked in this

(01:18:14):
isolation chamber with a bunch of other knuckles. Move on
from Julian Edelman. I mean he's irrelevant because his team
is not in the playoffs. I'll tell you who's in
the playoffs. That would be the San Francisco forty Niners.
Watching that team yesterday, sacking Kirk Cousins six times, that
defensive front by the way, getting d Ford back, by

(01:18:34):
the way. They were making the point that when De
four went out, suddenly that defensive front wasn't his formidable
and he comes back and they were just unblockable. Well
do you see, well what this is? You know that
this is the old who played on the opposite The
name just escaped my head, the opposite side of Dwight
Freedy in in uh in Indianapolis. Thank you. Mathis when

(01:18:59):
you have bookend edge rushers, when you have two guys
like a Mathis and Freni or a ford Imbosa the
way the forty have in now, and they can both
get to the quarterback. Do you have any idea how
insanely scary of a proposition that is four quarterbacks? Now
you have one guy and they communicate this stuff. I
hated watching when the defensive ents would speak to one

(01:19:21):
another prior to the snap and then they'd separate and
they go, you know, on wide nine techniques outside of
the offensive tackles. You know what they were doing. They're saying, Okay,
I'm gonna take the top, you go under this time,
and we're gonna sandwich this dude in the pocket right now,
and it's it's scary. It is scary. And that's exactly

(01:19:41):
what the forty Niners have is a scary defense. I
honestly thought before the season began, because there were some people,
few people that were saying the forty Niners could be
better than the Rams. I'm like, come on, come on,
they're not. They are this right now is the best
team in the NFL. They're the best team. They got

(01:20:04):
offensive weapons. I mean, how much does Emmanuel Sanders meant
to that? You talk about a mid season pick up
as good as any in the NFL, probably the best.
You want to talk about an m v P. You
want to talk about, who's the real m v P
of this season. I'm not talking about gameplay on the field,
obvious Lamar Jackson wins that with a landslide vote this year.
I'm talking about the real m VP of the league,

(01:20:26):
and it's really taking place over the past three years
is John Lynch. John Lynch, as an architect and general
manager of the San Francisco forty Niners, really was in
a proven season this year. He and Kyle Shanahan, who
signed deals at the same time for six years. They
have completely changed the fate of a fledgling franchise, a hapless,

(01:20:49):
distant relative of the success they had in the past.
John Lynch is your m v P this year. I'll
tell you what. Lynch has been a finalist for the
m v P for Hall of Fame several years. He
is again this year. This helps that the forty Niners
are in the Super Bowl. He's gonna find himself in Canton, Ohio.
All right, when the guy go Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Let's get ready the cheese that Texas kick it off

(01:21:10):
coming up next Oh yeah, by evenings and we're gonna
be down to four and we haven't even gotten to
the big game tomorrow night between l s U and Clemson.
So we got we are in football heaven right now,
coming to you live from the guy Go Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes can save you fifteen per cent

(01:21:32):
more on car insurance physic guy dot com for a
free rate quote. All right, they're getting ready at Arrowhead, which,
by the way, is really remarkable. The stadium, Rich, I
know you've been there many times. I've been there many times.
This is a stadium the Open in nine. It holds up.
It's a It's a phenomenal venue for the NFL. The

(01:21:52):
acoustics are amazing. The only stadium that rivals at is
Seattle as far as the level of crowd noise. The
other thing about Chiefs fans and I have traveled in
hostile territory, you know, back with my Raider days and
later as part of the flagship for the Chargers. Chiefs
fans are buying large, respectful. It's a good fan base.

(01:22:15):
They're not hostile hosta I get, you know, they can
get on everybody a little bit, but it seems to
be a little temper. I mean, I love the city
of Kansas City. I just it's one of my favorite
cities to visit. I think it's vastly underrated. Um, but
they're starving. It's been fifty years since the Chiefs won

(01:22:36):
their only Super Bowl. Remember they were in Super Bowl
one before we've been called a super Bowl. It was
then the a f L NFL Championship Game. And then
of course they're big victory against the Vikings in Super
Bowl four. So it's been fifty years and now with
the Baltimore Ravens out, he got three teams left in
the a f C and the top seed left are

(01:22:58):
the Kansas City chief Let me talk about playing it
Arrowhead this time of year. Not an easy proposition. I
played for the Chargers for two seasons, and when you
go to Ksey late in the season, especially when they
are either a playoff team or on their way to
be the only way I could describe Arrowhead and I

(01:23:21):
like to describe stadiums like Arrowhead is alive. There are
certain buildings that you know, get loud and they can
be imposing in some ways, and fan bases can fill
the rafters and you can feel it at times. But
there are certain venues that just come alive that that

(01:23:41):
it is inescapable. They're just there's this low decibel rumble
the entire game, and the roars are louder. You feel them,
your chest vibrates, and that's Arrowhead in January. It's just
a completely different animal. And I describe it as an
animal because it's a living thing. The stadium itself breathes.

(01:24:03):
I felt that way at times in Foxborough. I felt
that that way in college football more so than in
the pros. Certainly Century Link with the Seattle Seahawks, the
Dome teams like Houston can get that way New Orleans,
but there are certain buildings that don't do it and
never will. But Arrowhead when that fan base is getting

(01:24:26):
behind you know a Patrick mahomes now and Andy Reid,
this winning team, the skill position players that have an
early lead, a defense that's having success and piling on you,
it's difficult to see the way out. Again, it's this
inescapable rumble, and uh, that's what the Houston Texans are
up against today. It's a visceral thing. Whether will not

(01:24:49):
be a factor in Kansas City. It's thirty degrees, it's cold,
but there's no snow alright, snow yesterday you saw it
outside of Arrowhead. No snow right now it is dry.
So whether it will not be prime profits? So this
is definitely a game. Well you're saying that because you
have the over in this well, no, I mean it's
the way I felt sold Gavin. Gavin, did you buy

(01:25:11):
into Rich's argument that the over under which, by the way,
it was the highest of all four games this week
and fifty one was the smart play. Well, every game,
as we've talked about, has gone under so far in
the postseason. That was as much of a factor for
me because I feel like if I did bet the
under that this would be the game that would go over,

(01:25:31):
So I did tail him. Uh. The loss of Chris
Jones as well for Kansas City will be a factor.
It will be a big factor. And Uh, again you
have two quarterbacks uh came out of the same draft
in tween. We talked about this earlier. Patrick Mahomes had
a losing record at Texas Tech. Deshaun Watson was one
of the greatest college quarterbacks ever. Uh. And yet the

(01:25:53):
Kansas City Chiefs, who could have taken to Shawn Watson
at number ten when they moved up, they took Patrick
mall Holmes. The game's about to kick off. You have
Tomba Holli former defensive ent for this Chiefs, this Proud
Cheese franchise, also a Penn State in the line I
played with Tomba uh in Happy Valley, banging the jum,

(01:26:14):
the drum, the chief chop is going on and it's
gonna be Houston Texans ball first. That actually favors them
because again I think whoever has the ball last in
this game is going to win this game potentially because
it will be a shootout and Deshaun Watson taking the
field with his offensive line who really steve throughout the season,
and they've underperformed and left it up to him in

(01:26:36):
many ways to make the place. Did not deserve his
Pro Bowl. The left side has really still made the
Pro Bowl have to being acquired by the right side. Now,
last week, Deshaun Watson had some really good numbers seven
a touchdown, past he ran for fifty five yards and
a touchdown. Of course, the single biggest play was escaping

(01:26:56):
as he did uh and making the throw that led
to the winning score for the Texans and they come
from behind win against the Bills. So you know, yesterday
we were talking about the Titans and the Ravens and
how important it was for somehow if the Titans we're
gonna have a chance, they need to score first, because
the Ravens are one of those teams that once they
get the ball rolling, you know suddenly they can't be stopped. Well,

(01:27:20):
the Titans did score first, and then they scored second
and that was it for the Ravens. So when we
look at this game, how critical is it for the
Texans on the road to get on the board first.
It's everything you need to find a way first of all,
to quiet down the stadium, so you can't go three
and out early. And right now they're staring down a
third and six. It looks like to me, after a

(01:27:42):
short pass to Hopkins and a run out of the
backfield for a one yard game, it would be third
and eight. Actually, Uh so up against it already on
a third and longer. Uh, you know, possession here on
their opening drive. Now you have to score. You have
to score as much as you can. I think every possession,
uh that you don't punt and you're either kicking it
through the oprights here again in then zone is critical

(01:28:04):
to your success here at our head. And by the way,
how many times do we see this year, you know,
we cover a lot of NFL games, especially early in
the area. Chief's coming out this historic and offensive year
where teams would score and go for the two point
conversion every time. By the way, first down for the Texans.
So um, and it's fuller. But but is that idea
that you know, we can't just come into this idea

(01:28:25):
saying we need to match and we need to go
a step further. Uh. And Fuller is going to be
a huge factor for the Texans in this game. If
he's healthy again, you know, you add a Will Fuller,
you subtract Chris Jones on the defensive front for the Chiefs.
Suddenly nine and a half point favorite Chiefs. You feel
like getting a little more even here, right of course,

(01:28:48):
you know, and and again you know I didn't. I'm not.
I'm not gonna say I can predict who's gonna be
healthy weekend to weekend and who's gonna be able to
suit up and mount up. Especially in the postseason, you
assume everybody they're even close, even if they're not healthy.
J j Why why on the opposite side of the ball,
for crying out loud is playing on a torn peck

(01:29:08):
that was operated on two months ago. So the postseason
is just different. Guys aren't saving themselves for tomorrow because
there is no tomorrow, especially when you're later in your
career and you don't know how many postseason opportunities you're
gonna have. But yeah, when when you have Chris Jones
injured on this Chief's defensive line, who has been a
tremendous pass rusher, and obviously you have the capabilities of

(01:29:30):
Will Fuller playing opposite DeAndre Hopkins, in your offense. The
Texans are gonna look better than they did a week ago.
It's arguable as we have an injury offensive lineman laboring
getting back to his feet. You know it's a big man.
Clark is the one, by the way. Uh. You know
how when you have some the negative stats on both
sides and something has to give obviously, right Uh they

(01:29:54):
just posted this. Uh. So the Texans in their short history,
they've been around for twenty years, have gotten to of
the division around the playoffs three times. They've never won.
They've never been to the conference championship games. So there,
they've never won at this level. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs,
this goes all the way back to Marty Schottenheimer days
as well. In their last eight home games playoff games

(01:30:18):
there one in seven. I mean, that is an insane stat.
One in seven in their last eight home playoff games.
We talked about arrowhead in this great home field advantage
in the phenomenal fans of Kansas City, and you're one
in seven in your last eight home playoff games, obviously

(01:30:41):
your favorite in every one of those games you're the
home team in a playoff game. One in seven, that
is brutal. I I'll yeah, and look at the win.
The difference maker is Patrick Mahomes in my opinion, I
mean when you look at Patrick Mahomes, I mean they
are play away from going to the Super Bowl last season,

(01:31:03):
and it was due to, you know, an incredible catch
by Gronk. It was due to a defensive neutral zone
in fraction by d Ford. It was due to you know, uh,
a muffed punt that was called not a muff punt
off of the fingertips of Julian Edelman that would have
been recovered by Kansas City Chiefs for a red zone trip.

(01:31:26):
I mean, there were, you know, all of these close
calls that led to the a f C champion New
England Patriots advancing to their next Super Bowl title. That
left Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid packing. Yeah. The one
win was last year when they beat Indianapolis at home,
the sixth seed. Remember Indianapolis at upset Houston in the
wild card round. So they beat a six seed at home.

(01:31:48):
Then they hosted the a f C Championship game and
they lost to the New England pat pay for loss
as that was Chris Clark, by the way, is the
name of the tackle who went down and for the Texans,
so not Laramie Tunsel, by the way, it's it's the
right tackle Clark. So I mean again, you know another
issue for the Texans. Now it's been an uphill climb

(01:32:10):
with this offensive line in the first place, and now
you're gonna have to play potentially with your backup if
he's not healthy enough to go. All right, So if
you're out and about right now, can't watch the game, Hey,
just keep listening. We'll continue to update you. Kansas City Chiefs,
Houston Texans. Remember, the winner of this game will host
the a f C Championship game against the number six

(01:32:32):
C Tennessee Titans, conquerors of the Baltimore Ravens. Much more
here on this Fox Football Sunday are Fox Sports Red
Zone coming up next. Wants it to throw airs it
out left side, daft field steals across. What's five taf
ted five rock and roll? He sed strikes first. That's

(01:32:56):
Sports Radio six ten Texans Radio network blown coverage. Watson
two stills walk in touchdown and we have a block
punt by the Texans already up seven nothing. It is
now touchdown Texans and the Chiefs are disintegrating at Arrowhead

(01:33:16):
at the very start of their game. So ack in
touchdown from Watson is stills. The Chiefs have just had
their punt blocked and run back in the end zone.
We are less than five minutes in this game and
the Texans are leading thirteen and nothing. This thing was
just stuffed. How Quitz punt was stuffed and the Texans

(01:33:38):
walking into the end zone. So just like that, the
Texans are up two touchdowns on the road against the Chiefs.
Lonnie Johnson Jr. Responsible for the block, punt recovery for
touchdown for the Texans, and with this extra point, they're

(01:33:58):
gonna be fourteen points. Extra point is good. Fourteen nothing,
ten or six ago on the first quarter, less than
five minutes into this game. And we go back again
to what happened yesterday with the Titans. You know, they
got the early touchdown, they stopped him on fourth and one,
they went for the home run hit boom, fourteen nothing

(01:34:19):
Titans and the Ravens never recovered. So may go with
the actual block. All right, So now what now? What? Whoa? Whoa? What? What?
You know? Hold on a second before we even say that,
I don't want to remind everybody that we got great news,
quick and easy way for you to save money. Switched Geico.
It only takes fifteen minutes to see if you can

(01:34:40):
say more in car insurance. Go to Geico dot com
see how much you could save. All right, So Andy
Reid really struggling these home playoff games, and here they
go again. UM, I don't even know what to say. Uh,
obviously the game is far from over. We still have
fift mine is to play. But I mean, if you're

(01:35:02):
the Texans right now, you're just overwhelming. Uh you know
Bill O'Brien very well. And um, I mean this again.
I I went into this game talking about a quarterback
that may have a chip on his shoulder and de
Shaun Watson that the Chiefs not only passed on him,
they traded up to get a different quarterback two years

(01:35:22):
ago in Patrick Mahomes. Certainly justified. Mahomes has had a
great start to his career. I just feel like there's
a quarterback that has something to prove, at least early
on the game. It looks like this Texans team has
got the same attitude we saw from the Titans yesterday,
like we are ready to play. We're not intimidated coming
into Erawhead, just like the Titans were intimidating going into Baltimore.

(01:35:46):
I don't think anybody could have predicted, and we got
a long way to go on this game. But if
it comes down to the Texans hosting the Titans in
the ANC Championship Game, anybody have that one? Let me
ask you, Gavin, if you had parlaid before the play
house began, Houston hosting Tennessee in the a f C
Championship Game. I was thinking about this not that long ago.

(01:36:08):
You would It's safe to say you'd make a healthy exchange. Um,
and I gotta I'm just remembering some of the talk
last year after the Chiefs lost again in the in
the divisional round at home, people were going, is it
better if they're a wild card team on the road
and another start like this. I'm not saying it's because
they're at home, but maybe there is something to the

(01:36:30):
rust factor. But here, but here's the thing. Any Reid
has the best record of any coach in the regular
season coming out of a bye week. No, look, you
would think that that would translate to the postseason. Right.
Let's hear Let's hear this latest scoring play for the
Houston Texans. Dustin Colquit, fifteen year veteran from Tennessee, set

(01:36:51):
to put snap Bob Target and the Texas Plockett. It's
loose up the TA yard line, Lottie to the right
side the five. He's head touchdown Houston a specialty score. Alright,
too much? Sports Radio six Stand, Texas Radio Network for
cheese fans. Continue on Rich Now, yeah, look, this is
one of those things where you could be as prepared

(01:37:13):
as you want for a way a game is gonna start,
and you have one drop passed by Travis Kelsey and
you're punting and after giving up a big play over
the top, letting a free erunner go for for a score. Uh,
and then following it up with a poor special teams play.
And that's what it was, you know, or better design
special teams played by the ty Texans. All of a sudden,

(01:37:36):
you're deadlocked into this four team point to score trailing game.
Early on, you just spotted your adversary enough to win
this game already. Now, does that mean that these guys
are going to fall down and play dead. No, it's
an Andy Reid Ran team. It's an offense that's been
high powered all season entire Hill just caught uh an
absolute dagger uh close to the sideline. So I mean,

(01:38:00):
this is this is going to be this game. It's
gonna be I felt it. It feels like it's gonna
be a high scoring game. These are two prolific offenses
that have done that all season long, and so it's
going to be a heavyweight fight. In terms of the
air attack, We've already seen it early on. I didn't
expect actually to see a big play of the special
teams this earlier. I don't think anybody could have been

(01:38:20):
been prepared for that. But the Texans showed up ready
to compete today. There's no doubt about that. Alright. So
nine eighteen and County. We're very early in this game,
but it is already fourteen nothing Houston over the Kansas
City Chiefs. As we mentioned, the Chiefs home record in
postseason has been horrific over the years, and certainly not

(01:38:43):
off to a very good start today. You know, I
I I mean, I we already look ahead, you know,
and and you you saw what you saw against the
Titans yesterday. I mean we talked about the Texans. When
you when you talk about the Texans. You really start
with two. You start with Deshaun Watson and obviously you
have J. J. Watt on the defensive side. What, of course,

(01:39:06):
came back a week ago, played fifty plays on the defense,
so he saw quite a bit of action. But what
does that do for the Texans when you have another
future Hall of Famer, a guy like J. J. Watt
returned to the team. Well, he's one of your most
experienced veteran players first of all, So the leadership, uh,
you know, sort of the calm that that brings a

(01:39:26):
group who's used to playing with him. You know, yeah,
it's it's it's important to have your dogs healthy, especially
for important games. But then aside from that, you think
about the impact that he has when healthy alongside Whitney Merciless,
this is a pretty loaded defensive line, and so you
have a better chance of winning games when you're healthy. Now,

(01:39:47):
J J. Watt, is he a dcent, No, but few
players are at this point in the season. It's war
of attrition, but it helps. It helps from a leadership standpoint.
And again, you don't count on special teams touchdowns. You
don't really account on defensive touchdowns too, But it is
the goal. If you're gonna dial up pressure on punt
uh to to end up having it work out and

(01:40:08):
and sort of tilt the balance in your favor. And
doing that on the road early in a game, calling
up a pump block and having it work, I mean
getting spotted seven points by your special teams. You know,
if you look at the percentage meter, who really wins
these games? It's gonna be tipped wildly in the balance
of the Houston Texans early. But that's not to diminish

(01:40:32):
anything that this Chief's offense has done all year long.
They're great, all right. So right now the Chiefs have
the ball, they have crossed midfield. They got a third
and five situation there near the forty five yard line
right now, the Texans uh. And it's hard to say
a must situation when you got seven half minutes on
the first quarter, but you feel like the Chiefs need

(01:40:52):
to answer. They're moving the ball pretty well on this series, right,
get your fans in it. I agree with you. Five.
Right now they're at the five yard line. They're gonna
put the ball in the hands of the homes, which
is always a good thing. And he finds a that's
the second drop that's the second drop on third down,
Travis Kelsey had one on a crossing route and now

(01:41:13):
we've just seen another one. This is early similar to
yesterday because that was happened to the Lamar Jackson. Lamar
Jackson lott of drops yesterday didn't help the cause this
was a pass was a little behind him, try to
one handed, and he brought it down. And so they
are going to have to punt again. Uh and uh

(01:41:34):
be interesting to see now assuming that this punt isn't
blocked again. All right, they get the punt off, but
it's going to be interesting now to see this Texans offense.
They're gonna start at their own fifteen yard line seven
o eight to go in the first quarter. Again, I
just want to see, by the way that the touchdown earlier,
the first touchdown was just a beautifully design play. It's

(01:41:57):
one of those plays which I'm sure you're drawn up
on the board. You say, let's see if they're gonna
bite on this. You basically, you're slot receiver, go outside
almost backwards. It here's the deal. You're you're you're you
noticed that the Texans are in man coverage and so

(01:42:18):
you hope that you catch them well, you got three.
You've got three receivers on that side and three defenders.
It's a bunch set, okay. So you have three receivers
in a triangle to the left side of the offensive
formation and to your point, the slot receiver win almost
on a bubble screen look. And so that's what created
confusion all of a sudden, much like play action, you

(01:42:39):
have defenders on the outside in the secondary playing on
their toes instead of on their heels. They were trying
to get aggressive against what looked like it was setting
up as a bubble screen. And what end up transpiring
is you had a wide open Kenny Steals down the
field because he fake blocking and he just ran a

(01:43:00):
go route and you had a busted coverage. And that's great.
That's a great conceived play by Billy O'Brien on the
offensive side, understanding maybe the aggressiveness of this Chiefs team
and understanding what you do if you show bubble screen
a lot and you find a way to exploit that
and get a big play down field again on the road,

(01:43:21):
a block punt uh an offensive play that you haven't
exposed early this season, a new wrinkle in the playbook.
These are players that can spot you fourteen points early.
All right, we're in the guy, go Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Much more on this game, but we gotta find out
what's trendy right now. As the one and only David Gascott,

(01:43:41):
are you shocked by this fourteen nothing? As? Uh? I
guess the great Vince Scully would say, shot to my toes.
Remember that call Dennis accuracy man special teams though yesterday
today is Gavin Okay, Oh, I'm very happy over Shawn Watson.

(01:44:04):
Run the ball a little bit. Would you get a
total on the carriers for did? I got forty yards
over about that? That's a good chance of that. Nice.
I love how Steve this weekend has screwted the issue
of not giving you a pick. He didn't do so
yesterday in the fc S Championship game, I didn't. I
let coward. It was interesting. So you know t J
was sitting here and he was showing me the five.

(01:44:27):
He was five for five, He had all four games right,
and he picked an over under correctly five or five.
So yeah, we got to the final segment. I didn't
make any picks. I just let t J take over,
and his picks were Minnesota plus seven. He had the
Ravens minus nine and a half. He had the Chiefs

(01:44:47):
minus nine and a half. He has Green Bay as
well minus four. So rough start. But my idea was
that you've been so dominant this year in college and
since the regular season and with the Army Navy game
when I was fourteen and one, I haven't gotten a
single pick, right, So the Ravens office, I mean it

(01:45:08):
is I have gone ice cold with the conclusion of
the regular season. Do not your championship. You don't know.
I have nothing anyway, I have no feel for the NFL.
Look Sean running down the field. But we had a
first hour run from Duke Johnson. Ask this, if they
if they go have twenty one nothing, is it over? Really,

(01:45:31):
teams in the history the NFL have overcome a twenty
one point deficit. He watched the Kansas City Chiefs score
twenty eight points in a quarter against the Oakland Raiders earlier.
I'm just saying, I'm just saying that the Texas, they
go right down the field and score the first quarter.
Come on, let's Dustin cole Quit, fifteen year veteran from Tennessee,
set to put snapbot target and the Texas blocket. It's

(01:45:56):
Leos up the ted yard line, Lottie to the right side,
the five Sason touchdown. Houston a specialty Scar Texans Radio Network.
So fourteen nothing. Houston has the lead. A couple of
drop passes on short third downs for Kansas City. That's
why they're down by four team points. Steve. The one
thing you haven't brought up yet this week are actually

(01:46:17):
the last two weeks of playoff football miss p A
T s we had. Have we had any yet? That
is a great question. Have we seen any miss extra
points in the postseason. I can't because you guys are
usually up and at him on Sundays during the regular
season on at least one miss. They happened early. We
never won the first hour without a miss, that's true.

(01:46:40):
That's usually it happened in the first five minutes. Yes,
that's definitely true as well. Guys, off the field and
away from this activity. Cleveland Brown's plan on hiring Vikings
O C. Kevin Stefanski is their new head coach. Seahawks
and Packers tonight six forty eastern from Lambeau. Left tackle
Dwayne Brown is expected to play in that ball game.
Also Julian Edelman was the last night from misdemeanor vandalism

(01:47:01):
in Beverly Hills, jumping on the hood of her Mercedes
around nine o'clock Pacific, so he had some fun as well. Anyways,
back to Stephen Rich in just ten seconds, but the
first to work from our friends over at Farmers. Winter
means it's time to bundle up your insurance. Bundle home
on auto with Farmers and you could save on average
of call Farmers to get a quote today. Are Farmers

(01:47:24):
might average things my farms for FIR insurance changes and
ailiate probably not available in every state. You Usually we
don't talk about no hitters until like the sixth maybe
the seventh name. But guys, right now, DeShawn Watson is
pitching a perfect game, five for five, seventy two yards, Stills, Fuller, Hopkins,
everyone's been involved so far. I don't know there was
somebody here that said that Deshaun Watson was gonna help

(01:47:45):
something to prove today. I don't know you didn't. Yeah,
I'm let'sy here, he's six or six, all right, we're
coming alive from the guy go Fox Swards radio study
is easy to say fifteen percent more on conscience with
guy go go to Guy got dot com or call
eight n F seven otto. The only hard part figuring
which way is easier. So the Texas have gotten to

(01:48:06):
midfield as they have the ball and a four teen
nothing lead with about three and a half minutes to
go in the first quarter. But you just get a
sense early on. Right now Bill O'Brien's crew has got
a little like giddy up in their steps. Oh yeah,
there's no doubt. And by the way, Clark, the right
tackles earlier injured for the Houston Texans, back on the field,
So whatever had him limping off the field, he's back.

(01:48:28):
So they have their full complement of offensive lineman lineman
who started the game, and Deshaun Watson has been protected well.
He's been delivering the football with time and rhythm, and
that is rare to see out of this Houston Texans
offense because it's something that really we haven't seen all
season long. This Texans offense has been about Deshaun Watson

(01:48:51):
creating under pressure scrambling. These receivers are particularly good in
the scramble drill, and right now they're just rhythmic there
are getting they're moving the ball. They're getting first downs
for the first time they've gotten behind the sticks now
third and eleven, But this is the first time we've
seen them really on any drive so far face any

(01:49:11):
sort of adversity. Of course, the Chiefs this year did
a overhaul on their defense. I mean it was the thing.
Their offense was so prolific a year ago, their defense
was not. So they did a complete overhaul and as
a season sacks the Shawn Watson. So that's the big
play that the Chiefs desperately needed as they have stopped
the Texans forcing them to punch. So the defensive front, uh,

(01:49:34):
this is the aspect of the Chiefs that has been
vastly improved as the season has gone along is on
the defensive side. And again, rushing over that right tackle
is just talking about Clark, who's back in the game.
But look, if I'm Frank Clark, if I'm this Chief's defense,
I'm lining him up against a right tackle who has
had a poor season, especially pass blocking, and also with

(01:49:55):
my best pass rusher. Again, this is the NFL. It's
a war of attrition. You see someone limp, you lean
on him, and and that's the Unfortunately, if you're a
wounded animal. On this game, you're chased even harder. And
so that's exactly what the game plan is going to
be moving forward for the Chiefs defensively, and Frank Clark
comes up with a big player and they fumbled the

(01:50:16):
ball on the punt. We haven't seen who the Chiefs
fumbled the punt. It's a muck punt. Was a wild
scrambled hard to tell who recovered the ball. They're trying
to uncover the bodies right now. I think the Chiefs
may have gotten it, but now they're pointing to the the Texans.
They have the ball in the five yard life. Okay,
so a disastrous first quarter for the Kansas City Chiefs.

(01:50:40):
I was watching that punt. It was seemingly a normal punt,
but again it's cold and everything else, and it was
a muck punt. And the Texans are recovered at the
Chiefs t kill I mean, come on, you gotta catch
the ball, and it went right through his hands. It was,

(01:51:00):
uh yeah, Killen Crossing, who comes up with the ball here?
Cornerback back up on this Texans team. It squirts out
from tyrone actually went from the ground and then up
the player, but it still ended up in a Texan
player hands so so he so crossing. So the stars
of the game so far, by the way, are Lonnie
Johnson Jr. Who recovered a block punt for a touchdown

(01:51:24):
for the Texans, and a guy by the name of
Killing Crossing out of Western Carolina in his second year
in the NFL. I love Tyree Hill. He's on the
chief sideline saying, Hey, that's on me. That's on me. Meanwhile,
Deshaun Watson will keep the ball gets down about the
three and a half yard line, so we'll have second
a goal there. Uh yeah, it's on you, all right. Look,

(01:51:44):
if the if the Texans score a touchdown here, if
it gets to twenty one nothing, it is a very
short list of teams that have overcome a twenty one
point deficit in any NFL game and come back to win,
even in the first quarter. So this is a critical
time right now for this Chiefs defense to it at

(01:52:06):
the very least keep the Texans out of the end
zone and force them into a field goal situation. They've
got to come up with something here, and they've got
to stop the bleeding zone. Read, by the way, was
the last places over the middle touchdown Texans. That's a
touchdown of Fells to Shaun Watson finds Fells right over
the middle and he is just a yard beyond the

(01:52:28):
goal line. So in consecutive drives. Now the Texans score
with a deep pass to Kenny Stills for a touchdown
score on a block punt recovered by Lonnie Johnson Jr.
And now a touchdown throw after a month punt by
Tyree Kill recovered by the Texans. Darren Fells takes a

(01:52:49):
knee and the end zone after the reception, and they're
up twenty to nothing at Arrowhead. Shawn Watson seven of
eight seventy five yards to touchdown. First quarter, first quarter.
That's pretty good, alright, Uh, the extra point is good.
It is twenty one nothing Texans at Kansas City. One

(01:53:11):
one to go in the first quarter. All right, when
the guy go Fox Sports Radio Studios. More coverage of
yet another looming upset in these NFL playoffs coming up. Next,
high punt it'll be taken by Tyreek Killer fumbles the
ball at the seven yard line and the Texans look

(01:53:33):
like they've got it. Tyreek Hill back to take the punt,
wanted to return. It was a very high return are
very high punt by Anger. I think Houston's on that football. Yep,
they just said Houston ball. I'm second of goal. Watson
puts the leg down. Here's the snap, the shot to
throw over the middle, got a man falls touchdown. Houston

(01:53:53):
up three t d s to nothing. Oh yeah, oh my. Alright,
So the first call the muck punt by Tyreek Kale.
That was Chiefs Radio network. And then the Texans third
touchdown of the first quarter Sports Radio six ten, Texans
Radio Network twenty one nothing. Texans are leading the Kansas

(01:54:14):
City Chiefs and just in the interim here Cheez can't
hang on the ball. I mean, it is unbelievable. The
last play they had a third and long, they threw
a pass down the hill to Tyreek Hill and he
just got blown up and he's still down on the field. So,
I mean, right now, the Texans are in full throttle

(01:54:35):
as they are punishing this Kansas City Chiefs team, but
the Chiefs cannot do them. They've had a muck punt,
they've had a block punt. Even on the kickoff they
fumbled the ball, did recover the ball, but they've had
at least five passes. Patrick Mahomes is four of ten.
Five of those six in completions are flat out drops.

(01:54:57):
Samian Williams out of the backfield had to drop, Kelsey
had a third down drop. Robinson had a second down
and a third down drop. I mean it is it
is brutal right now for Patrick Mahomes because he's finding
open receivers. They are not catching accurately thrown balls in
the Texans. On a short return off of a coal
quipped punt, Carter gets the ball out to midfield. So

(01:55:20):
the Texans start this drive from the fifties. Okay, so
this is really getting out of hand. Yes, what do
we got here? Full first quarter notes for you. Only
one team all season fell behind by twenty one points
in the first quarter. That was the Dolphins Week one
versus the Ravens. Also, the Texans all season had scored
forty seven points in the first quarter. This season, they

(01:55:43):
lead twenty one to nothing with under a minute left
in the first quarter. Alright, So the beauty for the
Texans when you have this kind of early commanding lead
is is that you're in no hurry. Offensively, you can
run the ball, you can pass the ball right now. Offensively,
they have eight pass attempts, seven Russian attempts. Are keeping
about it's right now. Uh, they're gonna run the ball
early on and they're getting a lot of yards. When

(01:56:04):
you when you run the ball and he gets six
yards and first down, you know things are going your way.
And that's where the Houston Texans are at this point.
So you know, we were just talking during the break
and again, Andy Reid is one of the great coaches
in NFL history, the six winningest coach of all time.
But when you have a track record of coming up
short in the playoffs, and it really there's a lineage,

(01:56:26):
a direct lineage. It started with a great coach named
Chuck Knox, tenth still all time winning is coach in
the NFL. He's not in the Hall of Fame. Then
they got Marty Schottenheimer, another coach that's one of seven
coaches ever to win two hundred or more games, not
in the Hall of Fame. And now you got any Reid.
I mean, you got these coaches that understand how to

(01:56:47):
navigate the regular season, get the double digit wins necessary
to get to the postseason, but to just come up
short year after year after year. And this was it.
I mean the Chiefs. I mean the table set Ravens
are gone your home. You're you're gonna host you win
today at home, you host the f C Championship game.

(01:57:11):
If you're if you're saying that with a twenty one
point deficit at the conclusion of the first quarter and
an ugly quarter for the Chiefs, I won't argue that
point is enough to start the championing of the cause
to run Andy Reid out of Kansas City. You're taking
crazy pills. I do not subscribe to this newsletter. This

(01:57:33):
is a coach who got a team on a quarterback
who had started one game prior to last season, to
the a f C Championship game against the team who
would inevitably win the Super Bowl in the Patriots, and
was a neutral zone infraction uh an unbelievable grab by
Gronk an uncalled muff pump by Julian Edelman from winning

(01:57:56):
the an f C Championship game. Now listen, listen. I
I erstand that it is disappointing when you get to
the playoffs and lose. But with Patrick Mahomes since this
error began, he's won and one in the postseason. With
this new quarterback, I'm giving Andy Reid some room to
figure this out. It's not about Andy Reid. It's about
expectations from cheese fans. I've had this argument with a

(01:58:17):
die hard cheese fan. It's like Marvin Lewis owen seven
and playoff games, but Cincinnati, the fact that even got
the Bengals to seven playoffs is an amazing feat and
Cincinnati faints. We're okay with that? You mean we actually
are in a playoff game? We'll take it. Is that
the cheese fans, and again, it's been fifty years since
they won a Super Bowl. Most Cheese fans weren't even

(01:58:38):
alive back then, So I mean, are you okay with
the idea of Hey, before Andy Reid showed up, we
weren't even in the conversation for several years since Marti
Shotneimer left. And at least we're in the playoffs every year.
But at what point do you need more? Or do
you or you're just okay? We don't care. That's good enough.

(01:58:59):
I don't think any of if this becomes a trend,
but it is a trend. It has with Alex Smith,
with Patrick Mahomes. You're one and one. You may fall
to one and two after this season, if he does
this again with Patrick Mahomes, then maybe I would understand
people starting to get on board with this idea that

(01:59:19):
maybe it's Andy Reid. But here's the deal. This is
the Chief's first quarter. A busted coverage on the Kenny
Stills touchdown. Houston Texans exploit the chiefs Kelsey drops on
third down, Robinson does the thing on third the same
thing on third down, co quit then gets a punt
block return for a touchdown. Tyreek Hill must a punt
and and two plays later the Texans score again. Is

(01:59:42):
Andy Reid coaching these guys to bust coverages, drop third
down throws that are in their bread basket, and to
get punts block? No? All right, but I mean again,
there's only one stat that matters as far as coaches concerned.
That's wins and losses. So I mean maybe with the
I mean when when whenever you say, well, was it
his fault? To his fault? I mean, what's the point

(02:00:03):
of him being there? Then? Quick, it's only about the players.
What exactly does a coach actually do? Two quick updates? Uh,
Tyreek Hill has walked off the field after that huge
hit from justin Reid sideline throw and from the safety position,
Tyreek Hill just got absolutely demolished. He walked off the
field with the training staff. So he's in the locker

(02:00:24):
room right now. Mahomes is screaming at his team, trying
to get them fired up, saying we're not out of
this game yet. Also, the official NFL officiating account has
tweeted out regarding the Tyreek Hill hit. Uh, this is
legal contact on a defenseless player. The defender turns and
makes contact with his shoulder to the mid section of
the receiver. All Right, the Texans facing a third and eleven,

(02:00:45):
and wow, great catch by d hop as he showed
you why his first team All Pro this year. Uh,
Deshaun Watson's throw to d hop and that is a
big time catch for the first down. So the Texans
are in Kansas City territory already leading this game twenty
one to nothing. You know, and I'm not gonna defend

(02:01:07):
Andy Reid. I'm not gonna even defend how the Chiefs
are playing. It's indefensible. That was one of the ugliest
starts to a game that I've seen in a long time.
Which actually, let's talk about inertia. So you know you're
you're the Houston Texans. You know you're your battle tested
you finished week seventeen, you go into a matchup against

(02:01:30):
the Bills. You survive that game, but you're a nerd
rolling into this game. Same could be said about the
Titans last night against the Ravens. After beating the Patriots.
Maybe that day's rest it creates almost uh in im pass,
like you're not off the bus in the first quarter,
where in the Guy Go Fox Sports Radio Studios will
continue to update you on this shocking game in Kansas City,

(02:01:54):
gets you ready for Green Bay and Seattle and yes,
even tomorrow's college football championship game coming up next. Okay,
that's what it is, you know, that's what it is. Wow,
what a day. Yesterday was a shocker. Today on par
We're coming to alive from the Guy Go Fox Sports

(02:02:14):
Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent more
on car insurance. Visit guy Go dot com for a
free rate quote. So the day after the Ravens were
shellacked at home by the Tennessee Titans, the Chiefs are
getting shell act ZIP. Still eleven minutes to go on
the first half of this game. Now. We were just

(02:02:35):
talking here the the Texans, by the way, I thought
they got a bad mark, but they were facing a
fourth and one and they were lined up looked like
what they were going for the jugguler, as if it
hasn't already been drained. But anyway, but there seemed to
be some miscommunication on the field and they ended up
settling for a field goal. What happened there, yes, so

(02:02:56):
essentially what I gather is Billy O'Brien wanted to go
for it on first or fourth down and whatever the
communication was broke down between he and DeShawn Watson because
he started running off the field at one point and
you could see, I mean, Billy O'Brien just cursing up
a storm on the sideline, just all sorts of fired up.

(02:03:18):
They called the time out and so they end up
settling for the Kaiimi Fairbarn field goal, which was good.
So it's a twenty four point lead now for the
Houston Texans, and we got a big is this Hardman? Yeah,
this is me Kole Hardman, who's taking all the way
to the thirty yard line. Out about it the Texans
five yard line. No flags on the play, so the

(02:03:39):
Chiefs desperately need to do something right there on the
long return well into Houston territory. And they've been doing
this all season long. I remember Tyreek Hill, at least
right now, is out of the game after a big
he did he step out of bounds there? Okay that
listen that here because he's out right there. Okay, So

(02:04:02):
it's not as long as return as he thought, but
still a big return now. And I asked you this
earlier whether or not the Chiefs needed to get something going,
and you said it's still too early. Is it too
early now? Or they need to get some points on
the morning. They need to get some points on the
board when you're down four scores and you're talking about
only ten minutest swonds. Technically it's only three scores, three touches,

(02:04:24):
three three. The Belichick taught me in the super a
beautiful in my next is Steve Hartman? Or is this
John Nash? How about the math on this that Chiefs
had never come back from a point deficit. Their biggest
was in six one point deficit to the Chargers. All right, Well,

(02:04:44):
I shared a story with Rich the last game I
worked for the Raiders in Denver, and you've seen the
still photo of me next to Al Davis at Denver
Mike Shanahan, the former Bronco you know, assistant, going back
to his twenty four nothing Broncos at halftime, Ray came
back to win in overtime thirty seven. So four nothing

(02:05:05):
is not fatal. But they got to stop the bleeding
immediately and that way got a big play to Kelsey
right here all the way down to the sixteen yard line.
That was a beautiful play. You had a little like
sort of not sloppy, but just just lazy play action
fake in the backfield. Mahomes with a four wide set
has Travis Kelsey on an out route and he did

(02:05:27):
a beautiful job selling the slamp before breaking out towards
the sideline and just yards after contact, dragged the defender
all the way down. It's almost the fifteen yard line.
Is I'm a little shocked at Chief's receiver actually catching
the ball instead of dropping the ball. That's been a
huge part of this game early has been drop drop
drop by special teams players receivers for the Chiefs. So

(02:05:49):
they're down to the seventeen yard line of the Texans
trailing twenty four nothing, and they got a touchdown. So
a perfect play to Williams coming out of the backfield
and the Chiefs are on the board. Mahomes is fired up,
it's fired up, and they need a couple more of
those seventeen yards Damian Williams getting into the end zone

(02:06:10):
and Tyreek Hill back on the field. So this is
it's not all looking up roses for the Chiefs right now.
But a nice little wheel route by Damian Williams out
of the backfield, just nobody really covering him. Actually a
linebacker late, chasing, chasing, chasing, to and it was just
a foot race to the goal line. Williams wins that

(02:06:30):
one every time. Alright, so do you go early for two?
I mean, like I said, you're down three scores if
you go for the two point aversion each time. You don't.
I don't think so because it's so early in this one. Still, yes,
you know what I mean. I think you take every
single point you can have at this at this juncture.

(02:06:51):
Although it looks like Patrick Mahomes on the sideline, Patrick
Homes on the sideline, I think, pleading his case on
the field with the ufense and he was shouting in
the face of Dave tobe Uh, the special teams coordinator.
Al Right, well the extra point is good, so it's
we still got ten minutes to go in the first half.
I am jazz man, your jazz because you had the

(02:07:13):
over fifty one in this game and we already got
thirty one points on the board with tim and is
to go on the first half. By the way, Gavin,
did you jump on that prediction of the over fifty one?
I did. The frustrating thing is I almost bet the
first half over, which would have already hit. You know,
what did I tell you? I said it was going
to be a shootout. I said, whoever has the last

(02:07:35):
possession wins. I told you it's going to be a
score fest. Why did you not listen to me? Gavin?
By the way, speaking of overs, I want to get
a quick word in about tomorrow night's game between l
s U and Clemson, which I just I mean, there's
so much going on this game. But the overrunner on
that game is sixty nine. Did you say sixty sixty

(02:07:56):
nine is the over under on that game? So now
of where it's if it's thirty five thirty one, that's under,
So that puts it in perspective, So sixty nine. Now,
keep in mind, the last time we saw l s
U they put up sixty two by themselves against Oklahola.
It's pretty good. So when you think sixty nine in

(02:08:16):
the NFL, there's no such thing. But in college football,
I can see an easy over and that gets crazy
to say this, But sixty nine isn't isn't ridiculous in
the NFL anymore. Depending on the teams, we actually may
see this game get that crazy here in a postseason matchup,
because again, as these prolific offenses just create a wider

(02:08:40):
and wider gap using some of the college playbook. Uh,
we're we're seeing defenders suffer as they're trying to figure
out how to defend receivers and running backs and skill
position players tight ends in space because virtually everything is flecked.
Do we have the most recent Chiefs score are the

(02:09:00):
only score to this point? Middle Blitz picked up left
side Ton touchdown, Damian Williams touchdown Kansas City on a
quick shoot route to the running back for seventeen yards
on a touchdown, And you like apples, how about damn apples? Well, okay,
a little ahead of yourselves right now, but Chief's radio

(02:09:22):
network just having something positive to talk about. Here's the
problem right now for the Cheese is, uh, the fact
that the Houston Texans offense is motoring. Uh, they'll be
able to and and what's most impressive about the Texans again,
twelve pass attempts, eleven Russian attempts. They're doing with a
balanced offense right now, Shaun Watson is ten of twelve

(02:09:43):
hundred eleven yards two touchdowns in this game. Now, the
Chiefs did get that one sack, that one sack to
force the only Houston point in this first half. So there.
If the Chiefs are gonna get back in this one,
you gotta get your offense going. Now they're catching the
ball like earlier in the aime. But now we've got
to see this defense. So I think this is a
very key series. Again, we're talking about a game that's

(02:10:05):
you know, Tims go in the first half. But I
I think that you know, just to get the momentum rolling,
you know, you get a little momentum, you get on
the board. All right, finally we can breathe. We're on
the board. Now it's gonna be up to this chief defense.
You know, pretty put the hammer down on the Texans
and really get back in the school. Let me tell
you what's being spoken about on the chief sideline right now,

(02:10:26):
uh before the halftime. We need to turn over boys.
This Houston Texans team, they're getting rolling right now. They
think there's something we we need a turnover. So whether
that means you're meeting the Shawn Watson in the backfield
strip sack and that means you have Duke Johnson Junior
running in open space and you have a line at him,
You get your you get your arm on his ball

(02:10:46):
on the ball, and you you jar that sucker loose.
Find a way tip ball at the line of scrimmage, interception,
find a way to steal a possession before halftime. It
is critical, all right. That was an interesting lead up
to this play. It ends up a run up the middle,
but it just seemed to be a lot of communication
in the line of scrimmage with Deshaun Watson. It turned

(02:11:07):
out to be a straight handoff for a five yard game.
So maybe the Chiefs, I'm I'm what I'm guessing is
is the Chiefs have gone with a little defensive change.
Look In other words, suddenly he looked up and saying
all right, they're gonna make some changes, you know, to
do what they have to do. I mean, they got
to come up with something right now to get the
defensive momentum to get their offense back on the field.

(02:11:28):
And again, big story for the Chiefs in this game.
Chris Jones not in this game. Critical loss for this team,
obviously one of the best. And uh so the Texans
are playing it pretty conservative early. You know, got nine
minutes ago on the half back to back running place.
They're facing third and three, third and four right now,
you're sporting though this seventeen point lead here, so I

(02:11:50):
understand wanting to sort of milk the clock. Uh it's
a healthy lead. But again, you know, every time these
running backs are in the grips of this Chief's defense,
you're seeing now the defenders who get there late, they're
reaching in there, trying to tug at the arms of
the ball carriers. And that's that's the rallying cry from
the sideline is get that ball, steel possession for us,

(02:12:13):
and let's make this a one score game before halftime
at least. All right, third and four and bounce pass,
bounce pass receiver covered, so the Texans will punt eight
and a half minutes to go. Momentum definitely on the
chief side. All right, coming up, we're in the gey
go Fox Sports Radio Studios the late game, Green Bay

(02:12:34):
Packers hosting the Seattle Seahawks. The Hall of Famer Troy Aikman,
he will be broadcasting that game for Fox. He will
join us coming up next second quarter. That's a fake punt.
They faked the right side of tackle. Show to the
first down. Great play, dirty dance sing some before two

(02:12:56):
third d at four dirty Dan mixed up a play.
She's Radio Network inexplicable call by Bill O'Brien of the Texans.
She's got the ball right back Patrick Mahomes Travis Kelsey touchdown.
It is twenty four fourteen Texans. Now it's time for

(02:13:22):
the NFL focus. Wow, if this game this evening between
the Seahawks and the Packers or anything like this, we
got quite a day in the NFL. Joining us right now,
he'll be in the broadcast both the Hall of Famer
Troy Aikman. Before we get to the game that you're
gonna be doing. I don't know if you're watching this
game right now. I'm still trying to figure out why

(02:13:44):
Bill O'Brien up seven, would have a fake punt in
his own territory. They got stopped cold in hand, the
ball right back to the Chiefs. That's crazy, Yeah, from
his from his own thirty I think it's one thing
if you if you do the at and and and
by getting the first down, you're then in a position
to come away with points. But backed up like that

(02:14:08):
on the road, and you've got the lead and you've
given up a little momentum already. It's uh if they
go on to lose this game, and that'll certainly be
questioned for a while. You know, I have a question.
Buck in the background getting excited. Yeah, this game is tremendous.
I mean, all the games so far, this post isn't
really have felt great very even. Oh no, we have
a fumble on the ensuing kickoff returns. This is crazy,

(02:14:33):
and the Chiefs have the ball inside the five yard line. Troy,
what is going on right now? Uh? You know what?
Let me let me just let's let's tag along with
this fourth and fourth decision. At their own thirty one
yard line, Billy O'Brien decides the fake punt. He's an
emotional guy as a quarterback, and as as talented and

(02:14:55):
and prestigious a career that you had. What what what
is your what is your thoughts on the emotions of
a head coach? Do you want a guy who sort
of is that fiery I'm gonna get in the room
and shout at your red faced you know, vain showing
in the neck. Or do you want a guy who's
sort of a cool hand luke composed in these sort
of situations. Well, I just want somebody who's in control,

(02:15:20):
whether he's yelling or whether he's calm, whatever might be.
I think that, you know, for a head coach, just
to be in charge of the situation and to be
able to control his football team is probably the thing
that I look for the most, both as a player
and even now you know, as a as a broadcaster.
But uh, this game as it started out reminded me
a lot of championship game that I played in back.

(02:15:41):
We were playing a candlestick. We got down twenty one
points early in the first quarter and we never were
able to get back. We got it within ten a
few times, and we couldn't get over the hump after that.
But this game is shaping up to be a hell
of a second half, no doubt about that. Let's talk
about the game. You're going to cover two Super Bowl
winning quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers. You know, you

(02:16:02):
watch the Packers, you look at that thirteen and three record,
but they don't seem to pass the eyeball test, and
we don't look at them in the same way as
we saw some of the other teams of glowing records.
Tell us about this Green Bay team, you know, after
missing the playoffs and back to back years with a
young new coach in Matt Lafleura, how did they get
to thirteen and three? Yeah, it's uh, it's it's a

(02:16:24):
difficult one to to try to explain. I mean, I
think that both of these teams, Uh, when you look
at them both, you you come away saying, man, how
how did Green Bay win thirteen? How did Seattle winn eleven?
You know, when you look at all the injuries that
they've had in the close games and being able to
find ways to win and yet for Seattle, shoot, they
were well green Bay was as well. They're all buying

(02:16:45):
for the number one overall spot, you know, late in
the season, and uh, this Green Bay team, you know,
they have stayed healthy overall, they protect the football very well,
and I think that in and of itself, it makes
you hard to beat. And then they've gotten the running
game going with Aaron Jones. That's what's carried them over
certainly the last month of the season. And and defensively

(02:17:07):
they came on strong late in the year. They had
they had moments throughout the year where they played exceptionally well.
I like them. I think they are a better defense
than when you just look at their numbers and what
they show. They're capable of playing at a really high level.
So I think those things is what is what really
allowed Green Bay to get to this point. And then
for Seattle, it's it's pretty remarkable. I mean, at times

(02:17:29):
you think that Russell Wilson's playing by himself, the things
that he's able to do, and you wonder where this
team would be if if he was not the quarterback.
There's there's very few quarterbacks, if any others, that would
have been able to get this team where they are
considering what all has happened to him. Yeah, there's no
question about that. He's a transcendent talent and we're getting
to see that displayed every time you turn on a

(02:17:49):
Seattle Seahawks game. Right now. Scoring update in this Houston
Texans Kansas City game, Kansas City Chiefs just made the
Houston Texans pay for that special team's mishaps the fumble
on the tek off return. It's now twenty one, twenty four.
Houston still leading, but buy a three point margin. Once
had a twenty four point lead. Okay, So back to
the Seattle Packer game. You know, you have Matt Laflour

(02:18:13):
on one side, Pete Carroll on the other. You have
the the old, savvy, veteran at head coach, the first
year coach. What are the differences that experience brings you
in the postseason coach who has been there obviously many
times and somebody who's brand new. Yeah, I think, uh,
I mean, you would obviously rather have playoff experience. I

(02:18:34):
don't think there's any question that for Pete Carroll and
his background in the playoffs and the success that he's
had in the postseason, having won a Super Bowl and
you know, all those things that you want to talk
about serve him well. But everyone starts somewhere, and I
speak from experience that you know, I went in my
first year as a starter, and we won the Super Bowl,
and we played teams We played the forty Niners, we

(02:18:54):
played the Buffalo Bills. We played teams that had a
lot more experience than what we had, more coaching EXPERI
ranks in the postseason than what we had. So I
think in a lot of ways, postseason experiences is overrated.
It comes down to this game. I think there's there
are some nerves for those that haven't experienced it. It
is a different level of of energy. Of course, there's

(02:19:17):
a there's a real sense of urgency. You you feel
that immediately. You feel it during the week in preparation,
but you certainly feel it when you get out onto
the field and the game begins. But ultimately all games
settle in and it'll become just like any other game
for these players, and it's who it's all the things
that allow you to win during the regular season are
going to be the very same things that allow a

(02:19:38):
team to win in the postseason. All right. I can't
let you go, Troy without asking you about the Mike
McCarthy hiring of your team, the Dallas Cowboys. Are you
happy with the choice? I think it was a great
higher I think when you look at what was available
and the candidates that were available, and and I've said
it before this week, even those that maybe we're not

(02:19:58):
available when you when you put the together a short list,
i'd have to believe that Mike McCarthy would be on
that list. He certainly would be for me. I I'm
I'm a little surprised by the higher quad. Honestly, I
didn't know that it would be a great fit, uh
from the viewpoint of the Cowboys, and I wasn't sure
that that Mike McCarthy would view it as necessarily a
great fit for him. But the fact that they were

(02:20:19):
able to come together and reach an agreement, I'm sure
they've talked through a lot of whatever concerns UH both
parties had, and and they're moving forward. So I have
great respect for Mike McCarthy. His resume speaks for himself
and UH, and I think that it's a it's a
higher that the Cowboys needed someone who can come in
with a team that's really built to win. Right now,

(02:20:41):
they're not training, not breaking in a guy who has
never been the head coach in the league, a guy
who has not had the success that ultimately the Cowboys
want to achieve. Uh. I think it's good he's gonna
get in front of that room that he's gonna have
their respect immediately. And I think his background with quarterbacks
and what he's done with those guys, I think he'll
be a huge benefit to Dak Prescott as well. Alright,

(02:21:02):
Seahawks Packers. Later on Fox, Troy Aikman there with Joe
Buck And by the way, you're you're gonna have a
tough time top in this game we're watching right now.
This this is all right, we will Troy, thanks so much,
as always appreciate it. Alright, Troy Aikman joining us right there.
All right, so let's update to where we are. Houston
is leading Kansas City one. So the Kansas City Chiefs

(02:21:26):
have scored three touchdowns in three minutes to get back
into this game. So we have a little montage right now,
Hold on a second here, we alright, let's let's go
back again. So what happened was Houston was leading this
game twenty four to nothing. Kansas City finally got on
the board one seven. So we have a three and

(02:21:46):
out situation for the Texans. They're in punch information seven
right seven. Houston three and out. Now Houston is punning
and this happened second quarter. That's a fake punt. They
faked the right side of tackle. Show to the first down.
Great play, dirty Dance sar and some would not be

(02:22:09):
the gate two on third down four, dirty Dan makes
the big play. All right, you just heard Troy Igman's
comment on that if they lose this game. Wow, Bill O'Brien,
what were you thinking? So that gave the Chiefs the
ball back. And then this happened. The homes takes the snap,
steps up being pressured by it, like to Tissi does

(02:22:31):
touch down Kansa City on the near side. The Kansas
City Chiefs have scored two touchdowns in a span of
two minutes and forty nine seconds. If you can't get
any worse, Oh, no, thing that happens the city kicks
the ball off. Houston Texans obviously return, but the ball

(02:22:53):
is knocked out of hands of their return or Chiefs
recover and then this is it. This happens taken Carter
at the fifteen. Heears to the right, gets those tw
balls out picked up by Thompson Topson fifteen to the town.
He's down to the yard line. D Train's gotta in
the Tulsa rookie gets it down inside the Texan ten

(02:23:15):
yard line. Okay, so now they get the ball back
and then this happened, spread out action on the right side,
the homes holding it, holding it, Town fires it like
Kelsa gets into the end zone, turning his left shoulder,
touchdown Kansas City twenty points in lightning fashion. All right,
so wow, I'll tell you where. I'm trying to still

(02:23:43):
figure out what his idea was on a fake punt. Oh,
by the way, we almost had a fumble by Deshaun
Watson at midfield. They're laterally the ball all over the place.
The Texans are unraveling right now, this looks ugly. Here
here's the reason why I think he goes for the
fourth and fourth fake punt from his own thirty one
yard line. So what happened was, you have a situation

(02:24:07):
where you want to go for it on fourth and
four deep in the Chief's territory, but something gets fourth
and one, but something gets miscommunicated and you end up
settling for a field goal after a time out, So
you have a twenty four point lead, but the Chiefs
then go down and score immediately Now after the time out.
You could have designed to play on the sideline and

(02:24:27):
put your offense back on the field, and nobody would
have batted an eye at you for attempting with twenty
one points on the board to go for it on
fourth and one deep in Chief's territory. There's no reason
you're going for fourth and fourth your own. What happens
is you're on tilt. This is what poker players call playing.

(02:24:48):
That's not that's not a healthy situation if you're a
head coach, if you're on no doubt, that's the point
I'm making is this was an emotional decision on fourth
and four at the thirty one yard. We were talking
earlier about if decision on fourth and to survive this game.
If they blow a twenty four nothing lead in a
playoff game, you are you are having a discussion with

(02:25:11):
the owner if you blow a four point lead where
you had the Chiefs scoreless in the fourth in the
first quarter. Alright, so the Texans the past play that
we just saw it, Well, we'll get on the other side.
D hop actually try to lateral the ball back to
Deshaun Watson obviously wasn't expecting it. Fortunately, he was able
to fall on the ball. Now the Texans have punted.

(02:25:33):
So with less than three minutes ago on the half,
the Chiefs have a chance to take the lead in
a game they were down twenty four nothing. They could
take the lead by halftime. Wow, we're in the guy,
go Fox Sports Radio. See this. Let's find out what's
trending right now. Anything happening, David Gascon, I think Kevin's
on the line right now, Domino is getting his lunch

(02:25:54):
and that overs. Getta hit and about what two minutes
and seven seconds? Yeah, what was the lot at touchdown?
At fifty two? It's over by halftime. This is unbelievable.
So yeah, you guys are talking about it at good
length and for great reason to middle Blitz picked up
left side to touchdown. Damien Williams touchdown Kansas City on

(02:26:18):
a quick shoot route to the running back for seventeen
yards on a touchdown. And you like apples, how about
down Apple? Yeah, down twenty four nothing, And that's exactly
how the comeback started for Kansas City. So the now
they're down by just three four to twenty one in
the closing minutes of the first half. Patrick Mahomes, who
has been victimized by four. Kansas City Drops guys have

(02:26:38):
been operating with a short field nine is seventeen for
just ninety eight yards and three touchdown passes. He's got
a quarterback ridding right now of one o nine point eight.
So far, Kansasy has been unable to run the football.
They've only committed to it three times for just one yard,
but again only down by three, despite the fact they
were shut out in the first quarter and trailed twenty
four nothing into the second quarter. Me awhile, later on

(02:27:00):
today we'll get Seattle and Green Bay. We can only
hope this one's as good as an a f C
Division round. Right now as we speak, Seattle coming into
this bag in their four point dogs in this affair,
Green Bay and cl kickoff time is at six forty
East Year and they'll be on Fox and of course
the Fox Sports Go app guys. There's other things going
on today, it's not as important, So let's go back
to you, guys. In just ten seconds from first award

(02:27:22):
from our friends and Farmers, bundle home and auto with
Farmers Insurance and you can save an average of a
better pairing than pineapple and pizza. There I said it
called one hundred farmers for a quote. Today we are
farmers aageting my farms for fair insurance exchanges and its
probs out of alable in every state. I guess one
quick note, Brown's going to new head coach Vikings offense
to coordinar Kevin Stefanski will be announced. Thirty seven years

(02:27:45):
of age. Mahomes is on the move again. Yeah, they
are crossing midfield right now. The Texans are absolutely reeling.
Uh As we're gonna hit the two minute warny here
in the first half. Thanks so much, David. Once again,
we're coming alive from the guy. Go Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Easy to say fifteen percent more on car insurance with
Geico get dot com call eight on a nine four

(02:28:06):
seven atto. The only hard part figuring out which way
is easier. Now. We have seen teams overcome a twenty
four point deficit, but not in the same half. But
that is potentially what is happening right now as the
Texans have completely imploded and the Chiefs are rolling. You
know it's rocking at Arrowhead. Uh yeah, by by the

(02:28:29):
games and this could be an absolute Chiefs blowout. The
Chiefs are making it known and putting everyone on warning.
That there is no lead safe with them, that this
offense is that prolific. They've had the ball for just
over four minutes in this half. They've scored twenty one points.
They scored three touchdowns in three minutes. Yeah, but hold on.
They were handed the ball at the five yard line

(02:28:51):
on a popped up kickoff return, you know, I mean, yeah,
they haven't put a lot of yet in about fifty
three yards of offense in the second corp right, and
by the way, this run by Mahomesa scrambled for twenty
one yards. Before that, they had one yard rushing. Well, yeah,
three carries for one yard. Why would you, I mean,

(02:29:11):
you're down twenty four points as fast as they were,
why would you be bothering rushing the football. You have
to throw the ball until you're back in this game.
That's exactly what they did. Now, don't get me wrong.
They capitalized off of terrible field position by the Houston
Texans or great field possession for the Chiefs. They got
at the thirty one, they got at the five yard line,
and consecutive drives. So that helps that booie's your chances

(02:29:32):
of scoring. But this Houston Texans team is the story.
All right, Well, let's it's the slow down a bit
a bit here have given this game back again. Forget
all right, let's get past the old fated decision on
the fake punt, all right, which really got this ball
rolling for the Chiefs. Let's let's even assume the Chiefs

(02:29:53):
score here, either tie the game or take the league.
Going in the halftime, Bill O'Brien, what are you doing
a half time? What do you what are you going
to say to settle down your team that seemingly had
this game over when you're up twenty four nothing in
a game, it is a short list of teams that
have ever come back from a point deficit, and you've

(02:30:15):
blown it in a half. I don't even think that's
ever happened. What do you do if I'm Billy O'Brien,
I've made a mistake and we're all men in this league?
I I played six years, and the coaches that I
respected the most were the ones who admitted mistakes, were
the ones who genuinely could be self aware enough and

(02:30:35):
critical enough of themselves to tell you where they blew
it to. So you tell your team, listen, we made
a mistake. Going on it on on fourth and four
in our own territory, but I have faith in the
play call. It didn't work out. Here's the deal now,
moving forward at zero zero, we have to operate like

(02:30:56):
we did to start this game. We scored twenty four
unanswered points on this Chief's team. We can do it
again in the second half and we can leave Arrowhead
with a win and prepare for the NFC Championship game.
It just takes consistent effort. And I would say on
my behalf as well, I have to do a better
job coaching. We all have to take accountability and do

(02:31:16):
a better job playing. No more mistakes, and that's the
only way you get this ship right it because if
you don't admit to your misgivings as well, then then
the finger pointing starts. You gotta take command of this
and be the general of this team as you've been
prepared for. Minutes go. I'm gonna go back even further

(02:31:37):
than the fake punt. Let's go do is melt down
after they had the fourth the one situation and they
couldn't get their signals right as far as going for
it on fourth and one to end up sending for
a field goal. So you have a coach at that
point up twenty one nothing, having a meltdown on the sidelines.

(02:31:58):
By the way, the Chiefs are already in Texans territory.
Kelsey just caught a deep crossing route, sort of a
stair step route. The Texans are in shock right now.
They are absolutely reeling. And that crowd, you know how
loud it is a arrowhead right now. Now. So after
the bye week, the execution wasn't there. We saw drops.
We saw Kelsey with some critical drops. He had one

(02:32:21):
on third down, Robinson with two on third downs. Oh Man,
Patrick Mahomes takes it with his feet on a scramble
all the way down to the sixth. The Chiefs may
score twenty eight points in this single quarter. They did
it to the Raiders. We have never seen a single

(02:32:42):
half collapse like what we're witnessing right now in the
history of the NFL. We've never seen a team up
twenty four and not the in the first half blown
the lead by halftime. It's never happened. They've never done
it in their franchise. Come back from this much. They're
gonna do it in No team has ever been down

(02:33:03):
twenty four nothing in the first half and actually taken
the lead by halftime. But that's where the Chiefs are
there at first and goal right now, fifty eight seconds
to go. Uh, and they are on the verge of
doing this. So now, one thing to keep in mind
about the Texans, and we saw it against Buffalo. All
season long, they have been finding ways to win games.

(02:33:24):
That's sort of been the ammo of the Texans. And uh,
a mispass right there by Patrick Mahomes to a wide
open Damian Williams. He wants to have that one back
all right, second in goal now, fifty five seconds to
go on the half. But that's been the ammo for
the Texas, right they you know, they they were dead
in the water seemingly against Buffalo. But I can't even
imagine the emotions right now running through the head of

(02:33:49):
the Texans. I mean, you know, it's one thing to
blow a game and the game's over and you have
to sort of gather yourself, But how about blowing it
by halftime? It's never half, No, no, no team has
ever blown at twenty four nothing they by half? Alright,
second a goal Bomes is gonna throw it and it's dropped.
Oh are you going back to the drop situation. Boy,
it's Robinson again. That's his third drop of the day.

(02:34:11):
Now one was behind him, that one was slightly low.
But again, this is the red zone, this is the postseason.
It's tough catches, it's tough throws. He needs to come
up with this one. Mahomes was under a tremendous amount
of pressure, by the way, he had a Texas defender
wrapped around his legs, and you had a touchdown. You
had a touchdown. It was a shallow crosser Robinson he

(02:34:34):
was looking for. Had he caught it, he would have
turned up field and barreled in for a scorts third
and goal from the five. You know, I want to
go back to what I asked you about what Bill
O'Brien was saying. They got third and goal here, let's
just critical for the Texans. Moms is rolling left, he
throws the ball, touchdown Travis Kelsey with a scramble drill catch.

(02:34:54):
I don't know. I think it. I think he caught
it in the end zone. I think they're talking about
was he crossed the line of scrimmage when he threw
the ball? Yeah, yeah, it was Mahomes. Was he across
the line of scrimmage, did he Every every scoring play
is reviewed right now. He threw the ball once again
to Kelsey, and they're obviously reviewing any kind of scoring play.

(02:35:16):
We have to watch the replay on this. So he
scrambled left and he's across the line. That foot is
across the line when he threw the ball. So according
to where they say the line of scrimmage is, it
looks like he is over the line. So we're gonna
review this play right now. If the play stands, obviously

(02:35:37):
the Chiefs have the touchdown. If it's overturned, then the
Chiefs will have to settle for a field goal. And
and by the way, why that's critical. I mean, you
go to halftime if it's if it's tied to twenty four,
and you're Bill O'Brien, you just say, all right, look,
we got some breaks early in this game. They had
the block pine, we had you know, blah blah blah

(02:35:58):
blah blah. They got some breaks later on it's zero zero,
we start all over again. Yeah, listen, I think composure
wins the day. If you go into the locker room,
you scream your head off, you're gonna lose this team.
You're gonna lose this team. You need to keep your composure.
You need to treat it like the start of the game,
fresh late for everyone. Let's go win this one on
the road and advanced THENFC Championship game. All right, we're

(02:36:19):
in the guy, go Fox Sports Radio Studios. Much more
on this insane first half of our first game of
the day coming up next. Damian Williams halfback left side.
Kelsea trumps in motion across the face of Mahomes, who
sprints out to the left side. He's holding it, He's
gonna try to hold it, throw us at Lake. It
isn't caught, and they it's called touchdown Tsa City. The

(02:36:43):
Chiefs take the lead, and Kelsey gargling in the sweet
nectar of the end zone. All right, so Chief's Radio network,
they showed the replay over and over again that clearly
showed that Mahomes foot was across the line of scrimmage
and he threw the past. And yet on the review
they're like, we're good place stands and now the Texans

(02:37:07):
that are attempting a field goal that is no good.
Caymie Fairburn just gagged that one. Wow. Alright, so we're
at halftime Kansas City first team in the history of
the NFL to be down twenty four and nothing in
the first half and take the lead before halftime. Patrick
Mahomes just the second quarterback ever to throw four touchdown

(02:37:28):
passes in a single quarter in a postseason game. The
first was Doug Williams back in his glorious Super Bowl.
I think he has Super Bowl twenty two Dan in
San Diego and the Redskins beat the Broncos um by
the way very quickly. I want to thank Iowa Sam
today with Sam, what a day unbelievable for him. I mean,
this is unbelieable first half here Gascon. Of course, a

(02:37:50):
phenomenal is always Gavin all Over by the way over
the over under on this game fifty one covered by halftime,
and I would in turn like to think rich for
his dude. I'm starting to feel like a like a
damn fortune teller. You're like a Nostredamis on these NFL
you just start selling those picks. You gotta start betting
your own money. But your own money, what's whatever you're

(02:38:11):
calling o'clock fox? I got my double cheese poker pick
of the Week Hartman's College Picks, which so um alright,
so uh, one of the mist of my life. Do
I got chief set arrowhead? I got that picks for free?
You call no commitment? Can I get an over under
on coaches fired after this game? Said, well, we had

(02:38:33):
any reed fired. But I'll tell you one thing. Bill
O'Brien is in trouble. I mean again and and I
go back again to his meltdown when they were up
twenty one nothing. They had the fourth and one. Obviously
he wanted to go for it. There was a miscommunication.
He's screaming on the sidelines. They settled for the field
goal to go up twenty four nothing. Uh. And since

(02:38:55):
then it has been all chiefs. You got a coach
to your personality, right, And Billy O'Brien's an emotional guy.
I think that is very apparent. We saw him with
a tunnel exchange as he was leaving the field after
the playoff victory. Do we have that, Sam? Could we
play that real quick? This is Billy O'Brien leaving the
field after the victory over the Bills in Houston. So

(02:39:25):
you got players getting between him and an angry fan
who was shouting down from the top of the tunnel.
I played for the guy. I knew who he was
in the room. He's a shouter. He's a red faced,
fired up guy who's gonna he's gonna he's going to
get he's gonna get hot, right, and and that's his character,
that's his emotion. But you cannot let that corrupt the

(02:39:48):
game plan. You cannot let that put you on tilt
and call a fourth and four from your own thirty
one yard line fake punt. I understand you wanted to
go for a fourth and one and deep in chief's
territory and you have to call it time out because
wires were across that. Maybe you didn't feel it's comfortable
doing it. You know, the second time around, you kicked

(02:40:08):
the field goal instead. But you cannot make a mistake.
You cannot chase points, especially when you're leading by twenty four.
You know, if you did not see a single play
of this half and just saw the score, you're just saying, Wow,
this is a back and forth, you know, shootout between
mahomes Uh and Deshaun Watson. It's been anything but uh.

(02:40:31):
Neither quarterback has put up astronomical numbers. It's interesting. We
talked about total offense in the first half. So the
Chiefs have the edge thirteen eleven and first downs totally yards.
Texans have the edge two thirty seven one seventy four.
But here's the number time of possession Texans twenty minutes,
Chiefs ten. So the Chiefs were able to put all

(02:40:52):
these points up with very little offense. Um. So it's
a reset. I mean, you know, we were talking about
Bill O'Brien, what he's got to try to do to
settle down a team that just made history by blowing
a twenty four nothing lead before halftime. If you're any
read right now, what are you saying to your team?
If I'm Andy Reid, I say, that's who we are.

(02:41:13):
That's the team we're supposed to be, that second quarter team.
I don't care what happened in the first quarter. We're
putting that behind us. You guys didn't get off the bus,
he didn't get out of your sleeping bags. But what
you saw in the second quarter, that's who we are.
We need to do that for two more quarters and
we're playing for us our second straight a f C championship,
and that's that's that's the modus operandum moving forward. Now,

(02:41:36):
this isn't this They are who we thought they were.
I mean Week two against the Raiders, they scored twenty
eight unanswered points in that game as well. The Raiders
opened the game with ten, they scored twenty eight. Nobody
scored for the rest of the game. But they're not
scoring straight. If you if you punt the ball away, no,
look my points out of two in a fake I mean,

(02:41:58):
they're showing that play again from your home thirty yard line.
I mean, that was one of the most insane calls
I've ever seen. You you cannot for the Texans. Yeah,
I was talking about from the chief point from the
Texas without that help. And also again special teams is
factored greatly in this game both sides. Muff punt from

(02:42:19):
Tyreek Hill set up a score for the Houston Texans,
a block punt from Cold Quit the Texans score on
the punt block return. I mean, so they've made their
mistakes too, as well as the Chiefs, so as well
as the Texas. So what you need to do from
this point moving forward is playing mistake free football. If
you're the Chiefs and allow the game to come to
you got the crowd back in it all right before

(02:42:42):
we walk out of here. And give me a final
score in this game. I'm gonna say seventy three seventy
the Chiefs take this one at home, seventy three seventy.
I'm gonna find a way that the Texans are still
gonna win this game. Keep it here on Fox Sports, right,
