what city you're in right now. If you've been to
a watering hole during one of these games, you could
feel it.

no other year, and quite frankly, no other player ever

power of competition. And you had the Knicks steam roll
in the East, and you had a team, an upstart
team in the West who many thought could win it all,

ago that was. I just thought that they when I
noticed them playing against a team that was steamrolling the
league East and West conference and Oka, see, it just
looked different when they played them, and I was like, oh,

this is they're actually they have to compete, they have
to coach, they have to make adjustments beforehand. They just
out there just you know, just deep, bench deep, everything.
Everything is just working for them. They have the two
time MVP, the whole nine yards everything, But when it

came to the Spurs, they struggled. Now, subsequently enough, the
Spurs and okay, see played twelve times this year. The
Spurs won seven of them, and so when you look
at that, it's like, oh, oh, well, okay, that's uh well,

actually no, they wont eight of them. Excuse me. They
went four and one in the regular season against them
and then one.

Four yeah, yep, yep.

So it's it's one of those situations where it's like, Okay,
this went to Game seven, but they've had they've had
the answer to the equation for okay, see, no other
team in the league has no other team. Now I
bring that up to say, in the regular season, the

Knicks beat the Spurs two out of three times. And
so when you look at those things, and of course
the regular season, you know, it's different than the postseason is.
But what it gives you is it gives you a
blueprint and an idea of how this team matches up

with the other team and and the adjustments they've made
to uh win a series against them in the regular season.
There's no there's no surprises. They're like, oh, well, we
weren't ready for the you know. And although the Spurs
are in a different conference and they only played them
two times a year, they played them in the championship

of the Emirates Cup, and so which the Knicks one.
And so when you look at the sample size and
you're looking now, you're like, oh, okay, well the Knicks
have played the Spurs five times. They played them five
times this year and they won four of four. Yep,

that's a that's a direct correlation, like these numbers are real.

And so when you strip it all away, when I'm
watching this finals between the Knicks and the Spurs, I'm
watching Miss Johnson get out coached. And I say that
to say the turnover late in the game when Victor
threw it to the back of Castle, neither player was wrong,

because that's the way they've set this up. If you
have a true point guard, the true point guard is
going to run to get the ball no matter what
he's They're not going to turn it and head down
the court when the center has the ball. Now they've
they've created a system in a situation where winby brings
the ball up the court. But in no world on

the planet Earth, with fourteen seconds left in a basketball game,
would I want my seven to five center to bring
the ball up the court ever? Anytime?

your best player in his position, and at that time,
it's not points center point for whatever they have him playing.

jump shot when he is the one unstoppable force in
the league and one specific area blows my mind. The
fact that they gave him the ball outside of the
key up really bothers me because now now you've exposed

really being physical and taking taking Victor Woman Yama down
in the paint where he doesn't want to be. And
so for me, my thing is Victor Winbinyama, who doesn't

Back to the basket game, although he's worked with Elijah
Wan too many times. In that basketball game, and go
back and watch it if you if you don't believe me,
or watch this next game tomorrow if they don't fix it.
Victim Winbin Yama runs down the court and runs to
the corner. He runs to the three point line and
he stands there and I'm thinking to myself, now, why

would you do that? Why would you take the person
who can't be stopped literally at all, within eight feet
around the basket and put him twenty six feet away
from the basket every single possession. To me, that is
not utilizing what you have. It's it bothers me because

you know what you know, you know the offense. I
would run. You know what I would do?

What would you do?

I would rim run every single time. Number one, Victor
Woman Yama would never take the ball out of bounce.
I don't care about a trail three from my seven
to five center right, I would rim run. I would
have someone take the ball out fast. Victor Woman Yama
is already down the court. He would run to the
front of the rim, turn around and post up, and

I would catapult the ball down the court into his hands.
Six feet from the rim. He's gonna score a basket
eighty nine percent of the time time, or he's going
to get fouled and he's shooting eighty three percent from
the free throw line. I would do it over and
over and over and over again. You can't double someone

on a rim run in transition. If you do, the
corner three is wide open. And guess who's under the
rim for the rebound, Victor Wombin Yama.

I didn't play right tackle. I was a left tackle
in college. When I moved from defense, Archell said, hey man,
Bob Wiffield is the left tackle. I'm gonna be here
as long as he want to play. Do you want
to play? Yes, go play right tackle? All right, sir,

talking about when you talk about coaching and as good
as victory women Yama is in these young guards, they're
leaving too much on the on the plate and the
Knicks Mike Brown, the uh, the the age and experience
of the Knicks. They're taking advantage of it.

kind of look at the whole thing sort of like

Like we're just sticking stuff in a bag. I can

But for me, it's too much, especially in a moment
like what we saw the other night, where you had

I'm sitting there with my eleven year old teaching in basketball,
and so we have these open dialogues. And when Shaquille
O'Neill was averaging forty points in the finals, all he
would do is take off a post up in front
of the real Victor wm Binama's not Shaquille O'Neill. I
understand that, but the proximity to the basket for someone

seven five makes a huge difference on shooting percentage. We've
we've seen him do it, whether he likes to do
it or not. I'm telling him. In order for us
to win this series and the championship victor, you have
to do this period. I don't care if you don't

like it. Trust me. At the end of it, when

face value of the tickets, and then made all the

money selling out those tickets and then had a resale
page on its own official website and collects another ten
to fifteen percent on the resale. So an upper level
seat that was originally one hundred and eighty dollars, they're
now selling for seven hundred and eighty dollars for the
US opener at the La Rams Stadium Friday night, for example,

and they collect twice.

I agree? NBA Finals continue Monday. For those looking for
a game Tonight, New York leads two games to none
against the Spurs. Knicks have won thirteen straight. Their last
loss was about a month and a half ago April

twenty third, at Atlanta. Remember the Knicks were trailing in
a series. Actually happened. It'll go down, right, It'll go
down on the record. Yeah you so you need is
a buzzer beater. Spurs the playoff record by the way
Golden State to won fifteen straight in a postseason of
twenty seventeen. So if the Knicks win Monday and Wednesday,
they'll be hosting games three and four, they would tie

best record in the majors. And I mentioned that the
men's final was at the French Open today. I brought
this up on last night's show. But the women's final
was yesterday and there was a superb story and it
came from the losing player, somebody who just by making

the final. It was a great story. Maya Chuelinska of
Poland got swept in the final by a teenager yesterday,
but the fact that she was even there was amazing.
In fact, such an amazing story. Who's on the pregame
show for TNT before the men's final is her? The
loser of yesterday's women's final was on the set sitting

next to Andre Agassi and the rest of them. This
is someone who was not ranked in the top one
hundred in the world going into the French Open. Chuelinska,
just by making the final, gets one point six million
dollars for advancing two championship round. That is almost double

her career prize money earnings. She had, statistically, in miles
per hour, the slowest ground strokes of any player in
the field, and that's out of one hundred and twenty
eight players. At the French Open. She had to qualify
just to get into this tournament. She had to win

the first round and the second and the third, and
won a couple others and somehow made the final here
and so many fans from Poland were on hand. It
turns out they had bought tickets so far in advance,
thinking that the Polish star who had won the French

the rest, and somebody else from Poland turned out to
be in the final her what do you know? So
she didn't think she was going to be in Paris
this long. She had to find money to keep paying
the hotel bills. End up in Paris three weeks the
qualifying week and two full weeks of the Grand Slam

of it. She had to keep doing laundry because she'd
only brought so many clothes to France. It was an
incredible story just getting there. So just wanted to mention
kudos to her.

I really applaud the way the Rams in a salary
cap league seemed to always be in go for it mode.

At the same time, there's two ways to look at this.
You'd be a fool to not say the Rams got better.
The Rams definitely got better. But I was kind of like,

and I'm like, they already were, so do you.

much this vaulted the Rams. They were already probably the
best roster in football.

that the Rams had. Miles Garrett is a different situation.
Case in point, if you're going up against the Giants

in yesteryear and you had to go against Michael straighthn
or Justin Tuck, who would you prefer.

Justin Tuck is good, yes, but he's not Michael Straighthan right,
and so as as an offense. Preparing for the Rams
as they stood prior to the trade, you're like, okay
versus going he's a young player, he's going to get better,
he's going to be better. He hasn't capped out of
his potential yet and what he's going to be. So

you feel you can still get away with things, right,
There's not a guaranteed double that's going to happen on
Jared Verse, especially if you have a serviceable tackle. Okay,
you can get away with some things now, Jared Verse,
Like I said, I'm not taking anything away from I
think it's a dynamic young player and I think he's
on his way to become great Miles. Garrett is great

and has been great right by a mile, and that
changes how teams must prepare for you. It changes Dwight Freenie,
Robert Mathis. Robert Mathis was unbelievable, but he was unbelievable
because he was one on one all the time because

I'm going to give a shout out to Mike Brown.
I've been hypercritical of Mike Brown's never been my favorite coach,
even back when he was coaching Lebron in Cleveland. Just
didn't like the way he didn't step up and take

accountability for his coaching. I've said it before. He would say, well,
I just gave Lebron to ball and got out the way,
Like I'm like, okay, well now I now I'm looking
at you like a coach, like you're just there right,
like they're adjustments to be made. And I say all

that to say the reason the Knicks are playing the
way they're playing is because of Mike Brown's adjustments. Mike
Brown came in with the style of offense. It was
not condu lusive to his one of his stars in
Karl Anthony Towns. He addressed it. They addressed it early.
They addressed it through the season. They weren't on the
same page multiple times, but they worked at it. We

saw it as late as the series with Atlanta. In
Game three, they made an adjustment. They took the ball
out of Bronts's hands and made Carl Anthony Towns more
of a facilitator who knew the guy could get, you know,
get a trip with Dumbell. And I just want to
tip my cap to Mike Brown taking a team that

had been had success in the playoffs the last few
years under Thibodeaux and it's essentially the same team, and
really having the guys buy in to what he wanted
to do. Now, Mike Brown's won championships as assistant coaches.
He was with the you know, the famed Warriors, and

and and Mike Brown is a good because he was
a defensive minded coach, but he's definitely stepped up and
showed his coaching prowess this playoff. So I want to
tip my cap to Mike Brown and the New York
Knicks with the two to lead headed home in the
NBA Finals.

I think it's a great observation Mike Brown, the Cavs,
the Lakers, the Kings assistant with the Warriors. As you mentioned,
he does look like he walks into the room with
a little bit of a different vibe. And this is
before going up two oh, even just getting the Knicks
to this point. I think he's learned some things. I

think he's been around some really successful stuff.

And yes, not just with a defensive mind.

I think that boy, he has completely changed his reputation
from being that guy to just get out of the
way with Lebron to a guy that is now actually
just yeah, he's a huge asset. So I'm glad you
brought that up. He has done a phenomenal job. Okay,

my number two, the Christian Watson Extension wide receiver Green
Bay Packers. Very out of character for the Green Bay Packers.
I'm not saying it's a bad deal. I'm simply pointing
out very out of character.

Two things to me define green Bay in this era.

Speaker 2 (47:28):
One, they're the ones that are not afraid to pick
a quarterback in the first round and make them sit.
Maybe the Rams are about to do that too, it
looks like. But that's characteristic one and characteristic two. In
an age where everybody around the league is breaking off
wide receivers at an unbelievable and out of wack level,

in my opinion, green Bay wouldn't do it. Green Bay
would keep regenerating their wide receiver room and keep it
young and fresh, and most importantly for them, cheap. Even
Jaden Reed good young receiver. They gave him an extension,
but not that expensive. It was about a sixteen seventeen

million per year kind of a deal. Well, here comes
Watson and he gets a new four year contract that's
going to average twenty seven and a half million dollars
per year. This lands him somewhere close to the top
ten and right next to players like DJ Moore and

George Pickens and Jaylen Waddle in terms of his annual value.

And he's never had more than wait for it, six
hundred and.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
Twenty yards in a season due I know a lot
of it is injury. I know that he played the
back half of the season last year and was elite,
But it's just wow for me when I saw that
come up, that someone with his stats twenty two hundred
yards in a four year career would get that kind

of a contract, and that it would come from the Packers.

Yeah, I guess see. I mean it's under market value
for receivers, and I guess they feel that this is
their guy that's going to take that next step, which

place for free agents to come, especially receivers. It gets

And so I mean it, I get it. It doesn't

watch parties that they have, whether they're home or away,

of fans come, and I love when something good happens.

a permit. Wouldn't give Madison Square Garden a permit for

the whole year. I don't like it. I think it's

was moments away from being traded to the Steelers after
a lengthy held a holdout.

This was two seasons ago.

Niners at the last minute saved it, gave him.

Dollars a year, and then he went out and played

it has sat there like that now for the whole season,

as we mentioned, do have to have in order to
host grass fields. So LA, for example, Dallas and other

put grass stadiums down a field down in their stadiums.
Universities of Tennessee and Michigan State have been working for
about eight years on the perfect hybrid grass surfs for

particular advantage which city which team is playing in. But
can I just mention out loud that half the venues
are normally artificial turf places, So there's been a lot
of conversion going on. One of the first to make

So when you're at the LA Place on Friday night

coming off of making around thirty three million a year.
He can pull numbers and comp things around the league
and easily make a case that he needs to be
in the neighborhood of fifty. I don't know what the
Bucks offered him, Baker said, it ain't even close.

This either needs to be done by the start of
training camp or I'm not talking about it anymore and

think we know he is a viable starting quarterback in
this league gone given everything he's gone through and what
he's overcome, he's been a steadying ship in Tampa Bay,

he was an MVP candidate. So I mean, I get
where he's coming from. He's like, okay, what must but
more right, like, you guys were nowhere essentially now you're

somewhere and still nothing guys anyone.

When you're assessing a QB you want TV and interception ratio?
Do you want quarterback rating? Do you want wins? Do

From completion percentage matters, okay, touchdown to interception matters, got
to be able to protect the ball.

always love to look at well, like who's.

all right. Then the owner comes in, this really happened.
I'm like, oh, okay. So nine days later I was
starting without being able to lift twenty pounds on the
single leg extension on my right leg at the end

Indy in the playoffs. I was getting my knee drained
every Friday because it was swelling up. And I had
a player bonus five million dollars and they didn't pick
up my option, my player bonus, my player option. And

then when I was hit the free agent market, I
went to a team and the team told me, hey,
you're a first guy. You're the guy we want. We

what happened? I didn't you know? This is the crazy thing.

I didn't realize two years later what happened. So an
assistant offensive coach who was in charge of showing me
around I saw again. He was an assistant offensive line
coach when I played that one in two thousand and nine,
This is in two thousand, two thousand and four. In

two thousand and nine, when I go to Detroit for
a year, he was like, do you never you never
knew what happened while we didn't sign you at you know,
at the team we were at. And I was like no.
He said, well, we called over to Denver and we
talked to the staff and asked him why they were

(01:28:55):
letting you go, and they said, oh, his knee. It
may last a play or it may last a month.
We don't know, and we didn't want to. This is
a real story. Good lord, it's a real story. I said,
say what now? So not only did they not pay me,

(01:29:21):
not only did the entire staff and ownership plead for
me to come play on one leg, which I did
and we did make the playoffs, but then they just
completely devalue me to the rest of the league. That's
a real story. Uh, not embellished, not anything extra. The

(01:29:45):
man told me to my face, that's why they didn't
tin me. We just didn't want to take a chance
at that amount of money. On guess what. I never
had another knee surgery. I played.

I was gonna say what happened next.

From that moment, it was, it was it was fine.

I I played, But I mean somebody sixty more games, somebody, Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't.

the conversation changes for teams. That's a real thing. Instead
of them saying, hey, we just wanted to go in
a different direction, they were like his knee. We don't
want to invest in a knee that could blow out
in a practice. I said, wow, his words. I had

no idea until he told me that that's what they'll
do to you. They'll devalue you. But why because like
a control thing. Yeah, it's a control thing. It's it's real.

was offered a contract there was one below market value.
He turns it down and they stopped playing him. And

you build your value. This is this. This happens all
the time across all sports. This is not a secret.
There's a million guys with this. The boy hasn't been
a million guys to play, but there are hundreds of
guys who have these type of stories. I'm just one
of them. That very same knee I told you at

the beginning of the show I woke up and was
swollen for no reason, is the same knee. They're all
this transpire. So I had surgery on my right knee
and it just got worse because I was playing on it.
I could have been like, Nah, I'm gonna ride this
one out so I can rehab properly and go on

the next season healthy. That's real. That's that's really what happens.
Is happening right now to someone.

Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.

Well, and you bring up the word control, and then
my curiosity always is, you know who who actually has it?
That's why I joked about the Brissette thing. Who has
the control? Well, either nobody or everybody, because nobody cares.
But in this particular case, the question becomes if Baker Mayfield,

then I don't know what he wants, but if he
wants fifty million dollars and the Bucks are like, we'll
offer you thirty five, and Baker's like, that's not even close.

was not the case last year during the NBA Finals

to make both financially and roster wise.

leave if that was a viable thing for contender somewhere
where he can come in and be the two and
a half or three and not have to carry a
team into the playoffs. Now, if we lose Austin Reeves, okay,

that frees up cap space for us to go address
some of the things. I love Austin Reeves, but I
don't love Austin Reeves at fifty three million dollars a year. No, no, no,
Austin Reeves hasn't shown up in the playoffs since he's
been on the Lakers. You want your money, you show
up in the playoffs, brother. Yeah, So until you answer
